the scene with jasper and larys shows an interesting failure of aemond's as regent. where aegon's council did not fear him enough, aemond's council fears him too much. aemond is so obsessed with being feared and respected, but he's overcorrected in trying to avoid his brother's failings. jasper withholds significant intel from aemond because he is loathe to confront him about it directly, and this has disastrous results- if aemond knew, he could have locked down the targaryen bastards in the city and prevented vermithor and silverwing's claimings. instead, he is taken completely by surprise by silverwing flying over the city after she has already been claimed. he's made better choices than aegon so far, but he's very much got his own failings still that are coming around to bite him in the ass, and majorly at that.

I’ve been a huge fan of Glass Scientists for… what’s it been like… 7 years? Something like that.. anyway I’m super happy to see it getting more recognition AND EVEN GETTING PUBLISHED??? I got volume 2 the other day and in reading the after words about Jasper I figured I HAD to draw him and talk about why he is SO important to me and why I’m so thankful he exists the way he does. There’s so much else I could say about this series and how much I adore it and how important it is to me but for here I’m just gonna focus on Jasper and why he is so incredibly important to me.

It’s.. not something I talk a lot about but to anybody who pays attention to me on here, it’s probably pretty obvious that I’m trans. Or maybe not. My best friends didn’t know for like 2 years until I made a joke about taking my t shots lol.

When I first started reading glass scientists I didn’t know I was trans. And ultimately this isn’t really a story of how I found out, to be completely blunt it kinda just happened and I’m like yeah, I’m way more comfortable this way, this is just who I am.

After coming to terms with being trans, I found a lot of comfort in many of the characters in Glass Scientists. Over the years something really resonated with me more and more about Jasper.. I always appreciated how yeah, he’s a guy and he’s also soft! And sweet! And I know how much of a walking talking trans man stereotype I am but it felt so nice to see a male character acting and feeling the way I do, bad posture and all.

A few years later and the pages where Jasper talks about being trans drop and HOOH BOY

Everything in these few pages just felt so real and personal to me. Like I had lived this experience of coming out before, as it’s something I and many other trans folk have had to do over and over again. The way Jasper talks about his journey, the way Rachel sees him and the way that the story just continues on with Jasper just.. being who he is. Especially in a world with almost no transmasc representation in media???? This was MONUMENTAL for me. I didn’t really know it was possible to be so seen and so understood in a piece of media.

The real kicker was Rachel’s line about how Jasper must have been so uncomfortable. As someone who’s been lucky enough to have a lot of support, and a loving partner who has been nothing short of incredibly kind and patient and understanding, that line just. I dunno it makes me tear up a little (a lot) every time I read it. That understanding and acknowledgment in those few little words means the world to me.

I wanted to write this out and be a lil vulnerable here after reading how Sage was worried about their portrayal of Jasper. Idk if they’d ever see this, but I wanted to get it out there that as a trans man myself, Jasper is perfect. I’m so thankful that Jasper exists in the story as he does, and that so much love and care went into portraying him. I get the same feeling reading that scene with Rachel and Jasper as I’ve had being comforted by friends and family. It’s so personal and touching. Thank you for writing Jasper the way he is <3

“Shitshitshitshit” Bella muttered. This is just great, fucking perfect timing. She heard a soft knock on the door

“You okay?” Edward called out “Not to be weird, but you’ve been in there longer than usual.”

“Uh, it’s fine.” Bella stared at her blood stain on her panties. Brand new fuckin’ panties. She leaned over, praying to whatever God was out there and checked the bathroom drawers. Of course, they were empty. Vampires can’t have periods, idiot.

Bella was usually pretty good about keeping track of her period, keeping a box of pads in her car or one in her bag. She ran out last month and just kept forgetting to restock; it was on her to-do list and she thought she had enough time. Especially since her period app told her she wasn’t due until next week. She could hear some commotion outside the door, it sounded like the Cullen siblings hushed fighting.

“Can one of you just check Carlisle’s office or something?” Edward asked, coming back from the hallway “I don’t need Jasper’s ability to tell how embarrassed she is right now.”

“Ah yes, let me just raid our father’s office for some menstrual products that I’m definitely sure he has” Rosalie rolled her eyes “Your her partner! Not to mention her vampiric partner! You couldn’t tell she was due?”

Jasper snorted “For having the worst case of vampire blue balls, you’d think you’d notice any change in her scent. Hell, I smelled it the moment y’all pulled into the driveway. It’s hard to ignore. Old blood is still blood.”

“Maybe don’t let Bella know you could smell that, I guess it’s a sensitive topic for women.” Alice murmured. Edward looked over to her, silently asking for her help “Don’t look at me, I don’t even remember having a period!”

Emmett sighed as he stood up “Y’all are ridiculous, we could’ve already helped Bella with the amount of time we’ve spent bickering about it.” He took off upstairs towards his and Rosalie’s bedroom.

The rest of the Cullen siblings looked at each other in confusion “I didn’t think he would get that upset about this.” Rosalie commented.

Jasper cocked his head to the side. Emmett wasn’t upset, he would’ve known. There was an aura of annoyance and concern, but tinged with another emotion he couldn’t place. It felt familiar somehow, he knew he had sensed it before.

Out of all the Cullen siblings, Emmett was the one who experienced and embraced the full scale of, what was once human, emotions. Carlisle was always cool and collected, Esme radiated contentment, Edward was always slightly panicked, Rosalie was ever annoyed, and Alice...well Alice could be unpredictable sometimes.

Edward’s ears perked up as he heard Emmett come back down the stairs towards the hallway bathroom. Bella heard another soft knock on the door “Edward, I’m almost out, I swear!” She called out, not breaking her focus of creating a pad out of toilet paper. It was rudimentary, but desperate times and whatever.

“Hey, Baby B?”

“Emmett?” There was rustling and then she saw something sliding out from the door. “Oh thank fuck” Bella breathed out. She leaned over and picked up the pad from the floor, the plastic wrapper crinkling in her hands.

“I didn’t know if you used pads, but I got some tampons too if you used those instead?” Emmett asked. She felt her eyes water up slightly at the concern in his voice. “No, Em, this is great. You’re a lifesaver, thank you!”

Emmett smiled, pride swelling in his chest “I got you, sis. We’re in the living room when you’re all done. Also I know you, don’t start on that I’m an embarrassed human who gets embarrassed about normal human things” He mimicked her, putting on a high pitched voice.

He walked back to his siblings after hearing Bella laugh. He looked up to find 4 pairs of eyes staring at him. He looked around confused. “What?”

“Dude what was that?” Edward asked.

“What was what?” “Where did you get those?” Rosalie looked up at him “Wait, how long have you been keeping pads and tampons in our bathroom?”

Emmett thought back for a moment “After a month of having Bells around. Mainly after I was sure that Ed-boy wouldn’t drain her dry.” That earned him a punch in the shoulder from Edward. “I mean, why would you have them anyway?”

“Once I realized that Eddie was gonna be preoccupied on how to bone Bella without killing her” smack “OW! I got some just in case she forgot, she’s pretty good about keeping track, so I never thought she would have to use them until now, I guess.” He was still met with skepticism and confusion.

Emmett sighed and rubbed the back of his neck “I had little sisters and I always made sure they had their monthly supplies.”

Rosalie smiled softly and took his hand into hers. She knew how much it still hurt Emmett to talk about the family he had to leave behind. “Ma and Pa had them working on the farm and keeping focus on their studies, this was something I could help them with. I would even make sure to save a little extra at the end of the month to buy them a little piece of chocolate, I overheard Ma talking about how it would make them feel better once.” A fond smile tugged at the corner of Emmett’s mouth.

Fondness, Jasper realized. He was sensing fondness coming from his brother. Emmett was the only one of them that had sisters when he was turned. Well, Alice wasn’t sure if she had siblings at all. “Bella’s family now, so I wanna make sure she’s comfortable with us. And you” He jabbed a finger playfully at Edward “need to start paying attention to that shit if you really wanna keep Baby B human. Just because you’ve been alive longer doesn’t mean you aren’t still younger than me. At least my frontal lobe was more developed before I got turned.” Jasper snorted at that little dig.

Edward closed his eyes and sighed in resignation “Yeah, yeah you’re right.” Hearing the bathroom door creak open, they whipped their heads over to Bella. She wiped her hands on her jeans and looked up, startled, noticing the attention on her “You know I don’t think I’ll ever get used to you guys staring at me like that.” She grinned “Thanks again, Em.”

He matched her grin “No worries, sis.”

TL:DR Codependent Doomed Toxic Yuri. Long version: They are extremely codependent childhood friends who literally lived together since they were preteens because they are both orphans. Both would rather kill themselves then live in a world where they aren't by each other's side. (Spoilers) In Higurashi Gou/Sotsu, they attend a prestigious catholic all-girld school together and become more distant towards each other. Timeloop shannigans occur where Satoko keeps trying to convince Rika to not go to said school- but every loop ends with Rika still wanting to go and Satoko killing herself to reset the loop. All of this eventually makes Satoko (who has horrible abandonment issues) trap Rika in timeloop so they can relive their childhood forever even if gruesome murders occur in every loop. There's even a gut pulling scene- they are literally the ship of all time.

The Arryns have many distant relatives throughout the Vale. However, they are much poorer, the exception are the Arryns of Gulltown. An example is Petyr Baelish - although lesser they are still proud of their name and heritage.

The founder of House Arryn was Ser Artys Arryn, known as the Falcon Knight, and it was founded by the Coming of the Andals. King Roland I Arryn, the grandson of Ser Artys and fourth Arryn king, began the process of building the Eyrie.

The First Men who did not accept Artys as their king were forced into the Mountains of the Moon, becoming the Vale mountain clans.

During the Conquest, the Arryn and Targaryen fleets fought in a battle in the waters off Gulltown, which resulted in the destruction of the Targaryen fleet and the death of its commanding officer, Daemon Velaryon. Visenya Targaryen, on her dragon Vhagar, burned the Arryn fleet in response.

Visenya was tasked with securing the Vale. So, Visenya flew on Vhagar to obtain the surrender of the Vale of Arryn. When Sharra Arryn, the Queen Regent of the Vale, returned to the Eyrie she found her son sitting on Visenya's lap asking if he could ride the dragon with her. Once Sharra yielded and bent the knee, Ronnel flew twice with Visenya and Vhagar.

The Arryns have since remained Defenders of the Vale and Wardens of the East for the Iron Throne.

If you replaced the Fellowship with the Cullens and told them of their task, is there any chance of them succeeding at tossing the One Ring into the fires of Mt doom?

No.

None of them would be able to resist the power of the Ring, they don't have the temperament.

Alice

Alice is a weird caveat. Alice would see herself succumbing in too many futures or see someone else succumbing in her place. The temptation for Alice is it would boost her power, she would likely be able to see many more futures at once (in canon she's very limited) and she'd be able to see even those who block her like the wolves and Renesmee. Alice would never be blind and helpless ever again.

(That this would make her the Eye of Sauron is a minor detail, friends.)

The temptation would be very very strong for her and tampered only by the fact that every time Alice sees herself deciding to use the Ring it goes sideways. If she decides to even carry it too long, it tells her there are futures she just can't see (which is entirely possible, and hm, maybe one little try won't hurt.)

Bella

Despite mental bullshit psychic powers probably making Bella somewhat immune to the Ring, Bella still gives into temptation. The Ring could do such good in the world! Bella doesn't want to go to a volcano somewhere, where there's an evil ghost eye, risk her entire family and future, to destroy this thing. It's fine, it's just a stupid Ring anyway.

That, and, if Bella used it, she probably wouldn't become evil because of her shield, right? Then she could be even more powerful and they could take care of that Volturi problem before they even thought about coming back. Bella would be so powerful, in fact, no one could ever threaten her or her loved ones again.

And she'd be beautiful too.

She would, in fact, be more beautiful and radiant than the dawn. A queen, you might say, not dark but--

Bella doesn't hesitate long to put that sucker on.

Carlisle

Carlisle would be in Gandalf's line of thought, his temptation would be he'd try to take the Ring and do good, tempted into thinking that he'd be the exception because he normally has such strong willpower and would have good intentions. This, of course, wouldn't work because the Ring has a will of its own and cannot truly be used for anything other than its own purposes. Carlisle can't carry the Ring or even think about it.

Edward

The Ring as a field day is what happens.

It promises Edward that he can be Good, it can free him of the temptation of blood, allow him to transcend his demonic nature, as well as making him more powerful than Aro or any vampire who has ever lived. Bella's thoughts will never elude him again. He could, in fact, become powerful enough to rid the world of vampirism and demons altogether. His family could be human again, his daughter could be human for the first time in his life. He will become far more than he is now.

Emmett

Emmett's closer to resisting than most of the others. He has no grand ambitions, is content with himself and his place in the world, he has no particularly dark fears. He's not a full-on Hobbit, but of the Cullen's, he's the least of a psychological mess that the Ring loves to deal with.

So he'd be much better at resisting the Ring than the others, even Alice who's oscillating between hiding under a tree and trying to get it for herself.

However, he'd be too easily dismissive of it, thinking it's kind of nifty and sure, why not put it on, sounds like fun. Added to that that the rest of the Cullens are trying to persuade him to give it to them, there's no harm Emmett, and Emmett won't realize he has to defend himself from the rest of them.

Esme

Esme, again, is better than the others. At least at first. She's content with her life and her place in it, in a family she loves, she has no great angst with who and what she is, and while she has fears what she wants is for her family to be happy.

And that's the trouble, see, if Esme takes the ring and is the one to wear it, then all this fighting will stop. They won't have to endanger themselves going to a volcano with an evil ghost, the ring will be off the table so no one will fight anymore over it, and maybe Esme can do things like make her garden grow a little better.

Wanting so much to help the others, Esme gives into temptation. (Or, like Emmett, is persuaded by one of the others to part with the Ring).

Jasper

The thing about Jasper is he knows he'd be toast. Something offering him ultimate power, great times, Jasper had been offered the One Ring before in a metaphorical sense and he had decades of wild times because of it stopped only because someone else came back for him and then he found he couldn't eat people like he wanted.

Jasper cannot trust himself with these kinds of decisions.

I imagine he tries to get the Cullens to pass the Ring off to someone else, only to realize no one is trustworthy and the Cullens already can't seem to let it go. He then tries to persuade Alice to leave with him, only for her to tell him that if they leave then the Cullens will fall and terrible things will happen. Jasper finds himself staying, fighting against temptation and...

If it's not him it's going to be one of the others.

Renesmee

Renesmee might be one of the most shielded from the Ring's influence if only because her life is so fucking weird and she has no context to have great desires or what she could even do with the Ring. Her family's great, what are you talking about Ring? She could use the Ring to wipe out the Volturi? Sounds violent.

However, as her family falls apart at the seams over the Ring, Renesmee finds herself on the Esme path of temptation "if I have it, none of the others will have it, and then all this silly fighting will be done with and everything will be fine". And Renesmee could maybe help her family and others.

Rosalie wants to have a baby? Okay, Renesmee will be able to do that with the Ring. Renesmee can even undo Jacob's imprint, everybody's imprint, let them love whoever they want with no questions asked.

Maybe taking the Ring isn't such a bad idea.

Rosalie

The Ring is Rosalie's key to making her life hers again. She could become human, it tells her, they all could. She could have a child with Emmett, she could be the most beautiful woman who ever lived, she could have everything she ever wanted if she just puts it on her finger.

Despite knowing it's a bad idea, Rosalie is so very very tempted.
