Wisdom teeth out, finally not as loopy as I was yesterday. I think I'll list out my favourite things my mom got on video while I was loopy on anesthetics.

Number 1 on the list: I have to say the funniest thing was that even though I couldn't drink without stuff dribbling down my chin and not knowing where I was, I smiled very widely and said "felix" as in, fix it felix jr. Of course, even on the heaviest of drugs, felix lives in my head rent free.

Number 2: we got me getting over excited about scrambled eggs. The nurse mentioned I could have them at some point and I smiled and said "egg" which made everyone laugh, then I started CHANTING "EGG EGG EGG EGG" loudly

Number 3: asking my mom repeatedly if I was still handsome and her not giving me a straight answer because she was trying to figure out how to get out of the hospital. Getting into the "moving room" which was an elevator. The elevator having a mirror, so I gasp when I see myself and practically yell "MAMA LOOK I AM STILL HANDSOME"

Number 4: telling my mom not to open the doors with me?? "I don't like being a battering ram MAMA, it's not NICE"

Number 5: my mom telling me to hold on tight to the wheel chair she was wheeling me on and instead, I put my hands in the air and yell "ROLLERCOASTER WEE"

Number 6: CRYING, because they didn't let me say goodbye to my teeth. Getting upset they didn't let me keep them because "that's my property, I grew em myself!"

Number 7: remembering the fresh start au but in my head, its REAL. so I start UGLY crying and yelling about how "I JUST WANT FELIX AND TAMMY TO BE HAPPY, MAMA!" and her being so concerned and telling me "honey, they're married and..and not real" and me crying harder because "THEYRE REAL TO ME MAMA"

Bonus: I realised I had a lisp so I started repeating "Turbotastic" and "have some candy"

I'm so glad my mom got this on video cause I remember NONE of it.

My brain is exhausted and loopy from being sick for a week so take this with that fair warning but the more I think about the word "sweetheart" used to refer to one's lovers or children the creepier it gets. What is sweet? My heart? Have you...have you tasted...the organ my body relies on to pump my blood? How? How did you do that? What makes mine taste sweeter than another person's? Is that why you keep me close? Are you farming me?

Ghosts’ Larry Rickard Explains Why They Chose the Captain’s First Name

It couldn’t be a joke. That was one rule laid down by the Ghosts creators when it came to choosing a first name for Willbond’s character. Until series five, the WWII ghost had been known only as The Captain – a mystery seized upon by fans of the show.

“It was the question we got asked more than anything. His name,” actor and writer Larry Rickard tells Den of Geek. “Once we got to series three, you could see that we were deliberately cutting away and deliberately avoiding it. We were fuelling the fire because we knew at some point we’d tell them.”

In “Carpe Diem”, the episode written by Rickard and Ben Willbond that finally reveals The Captain’s death story, they did tell us. After years of guessing, clue-spotting and debate, Ghosts revealed that The Captain’s first name is James. At the same time, we also learned that James’ colleague Lieutenant Havers’ first name was Anthony.

The ordinariness of those two names, says Rickard, is the point.

“The only thing we were really clear about is that we didn’t want one of those names that only exists in tellyland. It shouldn’t be ‘Cormoran’ or ‘Endeavour’. They should just be some men’s names and they’re important to them. The point was that they were everyday.”

Choosing first names for The Captain and Havers was a long process not unlike naming a baby, Rickard agrees. “It almost comes down to looking at the faces of the characters and saying, what’s right?”

“We talked for ages. For a long time I kept thinking ‘Duncan and James’, and then I was like ah no! That would have turned it into a gag and been awful!” Inescapably in the minds of a certain generation, Duncan James is a member of noughties boyband Blue. “Maybe with Anthony I was thinking of Anthony Costa!” Rickard says in mock horror, referencing another member of the band.

Lieutenant Havers wasn’t just The Captain’s second in command while stationed at Button House; he was also the man James loved. Because homosexuality was criminalised in England during James’ lifetime, he was forced to hide his feelings for Anthony from society, and to some extent even from himself.

In “Carpe Diem”, the ghosts (mistakenly) prepare for the last day of their afterlives, prompting The Captain to finally tell his story. Though not explicit about his sexual identity, the others understand and accept what he tells them – and led by Lady Button, all agree that he’s a brave man.

Getting the balance right of what The Captain does and doesn’t say was key to the episode. “It wasn’t just a personal choice of his to go ‘I’m going to remain in the closet’,” explains Rickard. “There wasn’t an option there to explore the things that either of them felt. That couldn’t be done back then – there are so many stories which have come out since the War about the dangers of doing that.

“We wanted to tell his personal story but also try to ensure that there was a level at which you understood why they couldn’t be open, that even in this moment where he’s finally telling the other ghosts his story, he never comes out and says it overtly because that would be too much for him as a character from that time.

“He says enough for them to know, and enough for him to feel unburdened but it’s in the fact that they’re using their first names which militarily they would never have done, and in the literal passing of the baton”.

The baton is a bonus reveal when fans learned that The Captain’s military stick wasn’t a memento of his career, but of Havers. As James suffers a fatal heart attack during a VE day celebration at Button House, Anthony rushes to his side and the stick passes from one to the other as they share a moment of tragic understanding.

“From really early on, we had the idea that anything you’re holding [when you die] stays with you. So it wasn’t just your clothes you were wearing, we had the stuff with Thomas’ letter reappearing in his pocket and so on. And the assumption being that it was something The Captain couldn’t put down, it felt so nice to be able to say it was something he didn’t want to put down.”

Rickard lists “Carpe Diem”, co-written with Ben Willbond, among his series five highlights. He’s pleased with the end result, praises Willbond’s performance, and loved being on set to see Button House dressed for the 1940s. He’s particularly pleased that a checklist of moments they wanted to land with the audience all managed to be included. “Normally something’s fallen by the wayside just because of the way TV’s made, it’s always imperfect or it’s slightly rushed, but it feels like it’s all there.”

Rickard and Willbond also knew by this point in the show’s lifetime, that they could trust Ghosts fans to pick up on small details. “Nothing is missed,” he says. “Early on, you’re always thinking, is that going to get across? But once we got to series five, there are little tiny things within corners of shots and you know that’s going to be spotted. Particularly in that very short exchange between Havers and the Captain. We worried less about the minutiae of it because you go, that’s going to be rewound and rewatched, nothing will be missed.”

The team were also grateful they’d resisted the temptation to tell The Captain’s story sooner. “We’d talked about it every series since series two, whether or not now was the time, but because he’s such a hard and starchy character in a lot of ways you needed the time to understand his softer side I think before you had that final honest beat from him.”

“What a ridiculously normal name to have so much weight put on it for five years,” laughs Rickard fondly. “Good old James.”

hey i found your "anaxa's stories are all in forgotten mediums" post again. did you know that at the beginning of 3.3, when Trailblazer is reminsicing about the chrysos heirs that have already departed, they mention everyone's name except for anaxa's? they say "mydei, may your battles know no defeat", "see you tomorrow, trianne", and "at the end of the west wind, shall we meet again, castorice" but for anaxa they just say "the incarnation of reason, at the edge of existence, have you found your answer?". he's already being forgotten

man. MAN. I didn't even think about this but you're so right about that... come to think of it (don't quote me on this I haven't 100% explored the grove yet) but I don't even know if there are any fragments of recollection where we actually witness him. Which is of course devastating in light of my post, but also took a? weirdly comedic turn? when I got to thinking. Hold on. We, the players, of course saw a lot of Anaxa- how much did the Trailblazer actually see of him?

Which sent me down a rabbit hole of looking through quest transcripts, and to my knowledge the answer is- not much. The Trailblazer finds him in the Grove and goes with him to deliver condolences to the vitcims' families, but to my knowledge they don't really interact again until he testifies against Aglaea at the pre-Citizen's assembly vote, and then the TB and Castorice head off to Styxia and are gone for the next two weeks.

We, the players, get to see inside Anaxa's head, but the Trailblazer has no idea what this guy is up to. Before they depart for Styxia with Castorice, Aglaea mentions Dan Heng and Hyacine's findings in the Grove- so the Trailblazer leaves knowing that Anaxa is planning Something to do with Kephale's body, but doesn't know what. He gives Castorice his philosopher's stone to aid them, too, which has got to be some weird mixed signals. And then TB arrives back from Styxia right before Anaxa gives up the coreflame and dies.

Imagine you are the trailblazer, sent to find this random scholar. Upon finding said guy, you witness him looking pretty-much-dead on a throne before getting indwelled by a titan. You help him deliver condolences to people's families (thoughtful of him), hear that he apparently has some kind of beef with Aglaea, and then later hear that he's probably going to use alchemy to commit what some would consider to be blasphemy. He also testifies against Aglaea at an assembly, which tracks, but also doesn't bode well for the next meeting in a few weeks. Can't worry about that, though, because you have to go to the city of the dead. You spend two weeks there, get your life back, say goodbye to Castorice, and arrive back to the Vortex of Genesis approximately five minutes before that same scholar. rips the coreflame out of his chest and dissolves.

The conversation about Anaxa and how he will be remembered (or misremembered, or not at all remembered) by the rest of Amphoreus is deeply fascinating. And devastating! But also thinking of it from the Trailblazer's perspective is kind of cracking me up right now. Anaxa out of context would be deeply confusing.

Trailblazer having a much briefer and less personal memory of Anaxa could be an interesting point on the topic of his legacy, but it's also kind of also... they didn't really know the guy on the same level as the others!

This might be just another case of late-night Knick finding things too funny, and this dialogue was probably meant to be more on the side of TB trying to be respectful and serious about it because. Yeah they just said goodbye to Castorice and are about to watch this other guy essentially die as well. A heavy occasion! But in my head, and knowing that TB can be a bit awkward and anxious at times, their internal dialogue at this moment is probably just like: I don't really know this guy. What do I say? I should say something, it would be disrespectful if I just stay silent. Let's just copy Aglaea. Yep

Connor is, for lack of a better term, a try-hard. He puts his all into everything he does and it’s half exhausting, half endearing, and 100% Connor.

Markus is the same. He’ll light himself on literal fire to keep others warm. He’ll give and give until there’s nothing’s left, and he’ll smile and hold your hand and thank you for it.

When they’re together, they don’t know how to take. Connor runs himself ragged trying to keep Markus safe, which isn’t an easy feat when Markus is constantly throwing himself in front of Connor at any sign of danger. They’re driven to exhaustion orbiting each other, racing down the mutual path of sacrifice and self-destruction.

Is it just me or was there a huge missed opportunity the show to explore the parallels between Gabriel and Adam? Third brothers, ignored by their fathers, (presumed) dead but come back, want no part in the big showdown but play one anyway… Is this anything??

I will probably write a whole essay about this later but,,

The fact AFO is attacking Bakugou with the language Bakugou would use to demean people. The way that the downfall of AFO would be the very attributes that Bakugou had to relinquish in order to beat him. The way that he is not only fighting the big bad but is also fighting his past. The way he is again sacrificing his everything to win and for Midoriya. The way he is hearing that he is an extra, that he is a nobody, all of the things he has told everyone else, and has not only accepted it but is embracing it: He is here to support Midoriya, he is the one who needs to get out of Midoriya's way, he is not the main character of this story. And he has wholeheartedly embraced that.

He has not only taken the hand of others and realized he can't do it alone but has found the strength in doing so.

He has learned that the world doesn't revolve around him. He has learned that he needs to know when to get out of someone's way.

But not for AFO. Bakugou will still never back down from a fight. He still will go down swinging. He will not move out of the way when it comes to an enemy.

But he has realized Midoriya isn't an enemy. Izuku never was.

Tentative Truce [RP]

Hearing his real name uttered by The Voice Who Answers gave him a strange flutter in his belly. It felt strange, but also made him oddly joyful. The happy feeling quickly gave way to worry. Thunderbird Two grounded? Wait, the machine or the pilot? John said repairs, so that meant just the machine, right? Not that that was a good thing. Concentrate on the job at hand. Moving rubble. With explosives. Okay, that could be done. No cave-ins though. Tricky. He'd need to be careful - not something that had been a priority with his last employer. "Uh, okay. Yeah." He swallowed hard. He could do this. For the briefest of moments, he'd entertained the idea that John meant Thunderbird One was coming here to take him out to Australia to give hands on help. Then he realised the GDF wouldn't allow that, so John must have meant help-via-holocall. "So, you want me to give Scott . . . er, Thunderbird One advice on types and quantities of explosives and precise placement and stuff, right? I can do that, but I'll need as much information as you can give me on the terrain and the type of rock and soil involved." Doing this remotely wouldn't be ideal, and the potential for getting something wrong was higher than he'd like. What if something went wrong and people got hurt? He'd never be able to prove to IR and the Tracys that he'd changed then.

The look of relief that slips through Thunderbird Five's mask of professionalism suggests that the situation may be far more dire than John had been letting on.

"We appreciate your cooperation." He says, and it sounds surprisingly sincere for so robotic a statement, "The GDF has granted us a special permissions licence, for this rescue only, to have you on-site. I'm afraid we'll have to tolerate a security detail, but International Rescue isn't about to complain about having more hands for a job." There's a quick flash of white teeth that might even count as a smile.

"I trust I don't need to get Colonel Casey in here to remind you to toe the line?" John adds, watching as the other man is flanked by uniformed GDF officials, ready to be escorted out to the waiting helijet. "I'll transfer the schematics I have of the site over to your handlers now."

Even with the guard, the Space Monitor has no intention of leaving Fuze's commline for even a moment. He's taking a big risk here, gambling like this, but he hopes that the fact that - should he try anything, should he go rouge - his GDF entourage will make sure he never sees the light of day again, will be enough to keep his brother and the rescuees safe.

Clarence expressed a desire to change... and John is hedging a lot of bets on that being true.
