Siffrin steps forward, reading the text above the door. They open their mouth, and say... something...?

A quick sting of pain shoots through your head. You can't be bothered to ask anymore.

You hold your breath as you watch it open, revealing the almost pure darkness inside, almost spilling out of the room like water that's been kept still by a dam for too long. Cold air and the unpleasant scent of metal and salt hits you, mixing with the unbearable smell of caramel to create a dreadful combination.

🎀: ...Loop? Hello?

A light flickers inside, cutting sharply through the darkness. You almost don't hear the footsteps, a rhythm quiet and yet familiar. But before you realize why exactly you know that sound, the way it would only come from someone who's learned to be quiet, who's supposed to be fast and stealthy-

You see... another shade, in the darkness. One that hurts to look at, one that feels wrong, as if the world itself was not meant to contain it. You feel sick.

You avert your eyes as you hear them get closer.

✨️: ...Oh, Mirabelle...!

✨️: You're finally here to join us! How wonderful~

✨️: But... why did you bring them with you? Is this some sort of joke?

🪨: What... are you?

✨️: Oh you wouldn't know me.

✨️: But don't you worry, Fighter~ Soon enough, you won't have to think about anything anymore!

You grip your rapier tightly.

✨️: My, my, that's no way to treat an old friend! Don't you remember, Mirabelle? How I helped you? How useful I was?

✨️: Helpful Loop, here to help you with the loops!

✨️: ...Or, I would've been, if it wasn't for a certain someone.

Your family looks at you. You look back at them, concerned.

✨️: Your little wanderer here could have freed me much, muuuch earlier, you know.

✨️: But they chose to forget, instead! I suppose that's always the easier path, hm?

Siffrin is silent.

✨️: But! That doesn't matter anymore, does it? No, not~ at~ all~~

✨️: Because I'm not alone anymore! I have my little family, and now that you're here, we'll all be together again! I can... we can finally go home...!

✨️: All you have to do is just ditch those pesky little copies of your real party and join us, Mirabelle! It's just that easy!

Loop takes a step forward. You step back, tightening the grip on your rapier. Your family gathers around you.

🔷️: You will not be taking her.

🪨: Yeah! We just got her back, and we will not lose her again.

🍳: YEAH!!!!!!!

🔷️: If you continue this behavior, we will be forced to fight you.

Loop freezes, looking at you.

✨️: You... you want to fight me?

...They're... laughing...?

✨️: You..! You want to fight me! Hahaha!

✨️: Why, of course~ I'll happily take an excuse to finally snuff out your miserable little existence~

✨️: But... oh, my, would you look at that! It seems I'm outnumbered! Why, that's just so unfair!

The darkness behind them begins to move.

Four figures emerge from the living void.

You know who they are.

anyways ive only ever talked abt this on discord but the world needs to know so: hey guys did you know? loop's attacks in the twohats fight ALL do damage based on a percentage of your hp. did you know? the maximum base damage they can do in phase one is 17% of your health. did you know? even if you went into the game files and changed your own level to level one, loop could not one shot you from full health at any point in the fight. did you know? did you know about this?

Sonic 3 spoilers below the read more!!

I can’t stop thinking about Shadow wanting Sonic to kill him; how he taunted and angered Sonic in hopes he would finish him off. The last sight before his death being a god drunk on revenge. Shadow did not expect to survive at the end of it all; he didn’t want to live without Maria. But for a moment, when Sonic found himself and showed Shadow that love is more powerful than grief, he smiled. The first smile since that photo with Maria. He accepted his second chance at life and embraced it with the same boisterous energy as Sonic. Twirling through the air together, reaching out for one another, spinning through the black death of space as two living shooting stars themselves. It’s beautifully romantic, in all meanings of the word.

Finally, Sonic and Shadow each found someone who can match them. No longer were they alone in their alienness, in their power. Shadow, draped in the shimmering pinks and golds bestowed by Sonic, Sonic flying at his side like the light that shines even when the star is gone.

It makes my heart ache so badly that Sonic gets that joy and freedom beside Shadow ripped away from him in Shadow’s sacrifice. To lose another person who understood him, someone who understood best of anyone he’d encountered thus far. And for Shadow in his last few moments, accepted his death not out of grief as he did at Sonic’s hands, but out of love—leaving a galaxy behind in his wake, a rebirth of himself from the cocoon of rage and pain that encased him for 50 years.

It’s so beautifully tragic, grief and loss, but as they say: better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

Anyone else think about the beginning of Act 5 at the end of the Dormont section, why Siffrin shows up at the Clocktower so late, how it happens right after a zoneout?

That entire loop so far he was doing his damnedest to do the Friend Quests and screwing them up horribly. What if after their fight with Loop when they zoned out they went back on Friend Quest autopilot finishing the final part, going out to the field to gaze at the stars with Isabeau, the rest of the Family interrupting them with an impromptu picnic dinner, staying out late before heading back to the Clocktower to sleep for the night before heading to the House

Trying your best to keep everyone else away from danger, you end up cornering the most solid out of the shadows– you only think that it perhaps wasn't the best idea once you lock eyes with them.

Before you stands an almost perfect copy of Siffrin.

If it wasn't for the empty smile, the dead eyes, the odd lack of any unnecessary movement– it would be them. You shiver at the thought, before having to block another slash from their dagger. Even that bit of movement had no personality to it, their behavior being more like that of a hand puppet being thrown around into action. Only one limb of a whole.

As you keep on blocking attack after attack, you try to look them- no, no, IT in the eye for a sign of life, of something, an excuse to not have to fight-

The only response you get is a narrowly dodged stab.

You shut your eyes, wind up your fist...

And, ignoring the sinking feeling in your chest, deck the shadow straight in the face.

I don't know how everyone isn't also always constantly thinking about how burial rites seem to be potentially one of the few things Siffrin instinctively remembers about their culture. But rest assured. I am in fact always thinking about it.

AND ANOTHER THING. i know that on a meta level this is literally just How Video Game Bosses Work. but also with how well the game mechanics work into the story in many other cases i don't think it's unreasonable to look at it from an in universe perspective

i think it really says something that loop only uses their stronger attacks in their second phase. i think it really says something that you have to bring them down to 0hp four (4) times, attacking them repeatedly + proving that you are willing to genuinely hurt/kill them, before they'll use their most powerful attacks on siffrin

*grinding my teeth* God god god I have become obsessed with Quin (to quote it, "I'm a mannequin without the man[ne]") and how on a scale of love to hate in the loopified party, Quin and Isabeau are worse together than Siffrin and Loop :P

Here's a post-quin fight where Isa is guaranteed to lose and guaranteed to get his nose broken, good thing if there's ever any sprite edits I wouldn't have to have two different Act 6 portrait sets :)
