*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚*:・゚✧
Sometimes you think you aren’t meant to be loved.
It’s almost comical, the way you just sit there and take it. The way you let him walk all over you, taking bites out of you just to toss you aside for later. He cut off slices of you when he needed, never taking the full thing. Always little samples, just to keep you hooked. He would chew you up and spit you out, and you would always come crawling back.
You watch as Rafe dresses himself, eyes landing on his ass as he pulls up his boxers. He always dresses so quickly, not even handing you a towel as he paces around your room, gathering his things. At first, you thought he just didn’t like your apartment. You were a Pogue, after all, even though you were lucky enough to move to a nicer area of The Cut. You spent a lot of time redecorating, trying to make it a little bit nicer. A little bit cleaner. Anything to get him to stay.
Your apartment was small. Cozy. Quaint.
It reeks of you. And that’s why Rafe won’t stay.
Rafe turns around, catching your eye. He can’t help the small smile that stretches across his lips as he pulls his jeans on. “Admiring the view?”
“For as long as I can.” You say.
Your response surprises him, and his eyes widen just slightly. He stares for a moment, unsure of how to respond. He clears his throat, breaking eye contact. “You’re too sweet for your own good.” He mutters, sitting on the edge of the bed and pulling his socks on.
“I wish you would stay.” You mumble, aching to reach out and touch him. But you don’t.
“I know you do,” Rafe sighs, tying his shoes on. “But I can’t, sweetheart. You know that.”
“I do.” Your voice is soft.
“So why do you keep asking me to stay?” It comes out angrier than he intended. But maybe you needed that.
“I…” You swallow hard. “I don’t know.”
“My answers always no. Why do you keep askin’?” Rafe stands, grabbing his wallet and keys off of the bedside table. “Shit’s starting to piss me off.”
“I’m sorry.” You say, sitting up, holding the duvet to your chest. You feel like you’re always telling him that.
“Quit being sorry. Just stop fucking asking it,” He turns to face you. “Jesus. It’s not that hard.”
You don’t know what to say. You nod, looking down.
Rafe sighs, running a hand through his hair. He can’t deny, he loves when you look like that. Sad. Vulnerable. It drives him wild. His gaze lands on your neck, bruised and marked by his teeth. Possession looks good on you, He often thinks.
But that was it. He could only take so much of your submission. He couldn’t take you asking him to stay, too.
“I won’t ask again.” Your voice is barely above a whisper, still avoiding his gaze.
His jaw tightens and he stares at you. He wants to take you and claim you. To show you were his, and only his. But he didn’t want to keep you. Why would he? “Good.” Rafe walks around the bed and stands in front of you. He reaches out, grabbing your chin and forcing it up. “And look at me when I’m talking to you.”
You nod, looking up at him, mascara still smeared on your under eyes.
Rafe studies your face. God, you always looked so beautiful like this. Broken and upset. The sight had him wanting to take and claim you all over again. But the look of submission in your eyes makes him want to push you even more. “You look pretty like this.” He murmurs, pushing your neck to the side and looking at the hickeys on your neck. “It suits you.”
“Thank you.” You say, although you don’t like it. You didn’t like this version of you, the pathetic girl who would do anything and everything for one iota of his attention; but it got him into your arms, so that’s really all that matters.
“I wonder why that is? Why you look so pretty when you’re crying?” His fingers lightly trace over your collarbone, sending a shiver down your spine. He knows that it doesn’t matter whether you like it or not. You were addicted to him, craving his attention more than you craved anything else. You’d take whatever he gave you. That was the only thing Rafe loved about you.
“Because my lips get all pouty, and my eyes get all red?” You guess, resisting the urge to lean into his palm.
Rafe almost laughs at your answer. It was cute. “Hmm,” He runs his thumb over your bottom lip, gently brushing them. “Yeah, probably.” His eyes meet yours, staring at your face. You were so easy to break. So easy to control. You’d let him do whatever he wanted, no fight or protest. Just endless submission. It was addicting.
You’re getting restless. “Have any plans today?”
Rafe’s hand falls from your face, and his jaw tightens. You always did this. You always try to make small talk, try to create some type of emotional connection between you, even though you knew deep down that he didn't give a shit about you or about your day. “Yeah. I do.” He picks his jacket up from the bed. “Have to go visit my dad's lawyer. Then I’m meeting some friends.”
“That sounds fun,” You say, although meeting with Ward’s lawyer must have something to do with life insurance. “Uh, being with your friends later, I mean.”
“Yeah.” He mutters, shrugging his jacket on. He grabs his keys from the bedside table and glances at you. It’s hard, watching you try to connect to him. He knows that you want more than this. You want to be his girlfriend. You want the world to know you’re his.
But that couldn’t happen. And you knew that.
“Are you, um…” You shift on the bed, the duvet falling just a little bit. “Are you gonna come back over tonight?”
Rafe glances at you, eyes falling to the duvet. God, he loved how you were always trying to keep him around. He loved watching you try and fail to keep his attention. He lets out a deep breath, running a hand over his buzzed head. “Do you want me to?” He already knows your answer.
“Only if you want to,” You say, trying to not come across as even clingier than you already are. “You know my door’s always open for you.”
He sighs and rolls his eyes. You were always so predictable. So needy. So willing. He starts to wonder when he'll get sick of it. “Yeah, yeah, yeah,” He grunts, picking his phone up off of the bedside table and shoving it in his pocket. “I don’t know yet. Might be with Sofia tonight.”
Your soft smile drops, just for a second, and you hope Rafe doesn’t notice.
Sofia.
Sofia?
Who the hell is Sofia?
You knew everyone he hung out with. Every girl. You had tabs on all of them, shamefully. You didn’t know who the hell Sofia was. Had you missed someone? How had she managed to slip through the cracks?
Under the covers, you dig your nails into your thigh. You had to act casual, as normal as you could be. You were always treading thin ice with him, and you couldn’t risk losing him over this. Your smile returns and you give him a nod. “Cool. Just text me.”
Rafe watches as your smile falters for a moment. He knows it. He knows that you’re jealous. There was no way that you weren't. It didn’t take much to make you jealous. He could make one passing comment about a girl, and you’d spend the rest of the day worrying, wondering who she was. That's why he brought up Sofia, and why he always mentions his other girls to you. Something about the idea of you laying in bed, terrified and anxious to lose him, really excited him.
He smirks as you quickly regain composure, knowing that he got to you. “Yeah. I’ll text you.” He says, turning to leave.
“Drive safe.” You say.
He stops as he stands in the doorway. Something about you telling him to drive safe always made him… feel guilty. It was that damn softness you always had and used against him. He glances at you over his shoulder, swallowing whatever sentiment he was feeling. “Sure thing, sweetheart.”
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆
You hate Sofia.
After a bit of sleuthing, logged into one of your many burner accounts, you finally find her. She’s a Pogue, like you, and for some reason you find that it stings more. She’s gorgeous, absolutely beautiful, the sweetest girl around, and you fucking hate her.
Rafe had a roster. A rotation, the same few girls on repeat until he got bored, where he would swap a few out for fresh meat. You don’t know how you managed to stay on the roster for this long, but you weren’t complaining. Maybe Rafe thought you had another guy out there, filling your cunt and your bed when he was gone, but you didn’t. You’re too busy being Rafe’s to fall for somebody new.
You used to not care about the other girls. The more and more he mentioned them, though, you got curious. You started looking them up on Instagram, stalking their profile through burners and analysing every post. Every story. None of the girls ever looked like you. None of the girls were like you at all. Why did he like them, and why did he like you?
You wonder if he treats the other girls as poorly, or if in some twisted way, you’re special. You could handle being the only girl that Rafe treated like shit if that meant you stood out to him in some way. You wonder if he fills their necks with hickies, too, if he grips their hips too hard and leaves bruises, if he spanks them until his handprints form welts on your ass cheeks.
You hoped to God you were special.
You tried to distract yourself, running errands and tidying your apartment, but you kept thinking about him. About his stupid baby blue eyes, and his stupid pretty face, and his stupid hands and the way they felt around your neck. You didn’t want to be in love with Rafe fucking Cameron, but you feared you were already in too deep, and soon you would drown, falling below the surface, hand outstretched, hoping just this once that he would pull you up.
You sit on your bed, in the dark and the silence, staring at your phone, waiting for it to light up. Waiting for him to text you, to need you.
The hours pass. Midnight. One and two. Three. Before four o'clock rolls around, you still have nothing. You know that you should just give up and go to bed. He probably passed out at his friends’ place, too drunk and too tired to text you, but you keep telling yourself that he's just busy. That he's gonna wake up any moment now and shoot you a text.
You're praying that something happens, that something keeps you up and keeps you waiting for those messages that you know he most likely won't send. You want him to finally fucking want you in the way that you want him. You didn’t like feeling this way, it wasn’t fun to constantly torture yourself, but is it not fun to feel many other ways? If it wasn’t Rafe, it would just be someone else. Another man, someone else’s son, reminding you that no matter how hard you try, you just aren’t meant to be loved.
Why don’t you do it for him? Why aren’t you enough to get him to stay?
You tap the screen, and it lights up. No new notifications.
“Shit.” You mumble, your hand retreating to your side.
You sigh and lay back, staring at the ceiling. Of course, he isn’t going to text you. Why would he? Why would he do that to you, when he never had before? This is exactly what you expected. This is exactly what he loves. Making you doubt, getting you jealous. It gets him off. It’s a game for him. You were his prey, and he was your predator.
As you lay, staring at your ceiling, you hear three, quick knocks on your door.
At first, you think you’ve imagined them. You sit up, your feet sliding into your slippers as you pad into the living room. You stand there in silence, in the dark, only listening to your own breathing. You’re about to turn around when there’s another knock, this time loud and pounding against your door.
You cross the rest of the room, undoing the locks and opening the door.
Standing on your doorstep, of course, was Rafe, hands in his pockets as he stares you down. He seems… tired. He had dark circles under his eyes, probably from staying out late. He glances at you from behind those tired eyes, his gaze falling over your body. He’s taking note of the oversized t shirt you’re wearing, and how your hair is dishevelled and messier than it was before. He could tell you had been lying down. “Can I come in?”
Something's off, you can tell. He’s acting different, even though it’s just subtly. You watch him as he chews on his lip, an anxious habit he didn’t think you noticed. “What’s wrong?”
Rafe’s expression falters for a split second, before he quickly regains his composure. He was fine. Nothing was wrong. Except for the fact that you asked him that. He looks over you. “Nothing,” He responds, his voice harsh and biting. “I just wanted to see you. That’s all.”
You don’t believe him. He normally carries himself with intense confidence and gravitas, so much so it constantly inks into your lungs and chokes you, but this was different. He felt different. “Right.”
He swallows hard, shifting on his feet. He didn’t like this. He didn’t like the way you were looking at him. Concerned, like you cared. He glances away from you, sighing. “Can I come in?” He repeats his question, eyes flicking between you and your living room.
You nod, stepping aside and holding the door opening, flicking a light switch. One of your lamps turns on, casting a warm, soft glow over your living room.
Rafe strides into your apartment, immediately heading for your couch. Everything in your place was so damn cozy; the warm light, the soft couch, your scent lingering on every single inch of every single surface. He collapses back onto the couch, arms spread out and legs splayed. He runs a hand over his face, swallowing hard.
You sit next to him, and for a while, you two sit in a comfortable silence. You look over at him, pushing some hair behind your ears. Your voice is soft when you finally speak. “Are you going to tell me what’s wrong?”
Rafe closes his eyes, sighing as you speak. He didn’t want to tell you about Ward. Not when you were like this, so gentle and caring. He was exhausted, to say the least. He was dealing with so much, all at once, and he didn't know what to do. Finally, he looks at you. In this lighting, with your hair messy and your eyes concerned, you looked even more like the sweet girl he always wished you were. Sweet and caring and loving. “Today was my dad's funeral.”
Your shoulders droop, and your eyes soften. You had no idea. He had only mentioned visiting his father’s lawyer to you yesterday morning. “Shit, I’m sorry, Rafe. I’m so sorry.”
Rafe almost groans. He loved you when you were soft, when you were sweet. He loved it more than he cared to admit, but right now he hated it. He hated it when you were this caring. It made him doubt everything. He glances at you, a lump in his throat. He hated when you looked at him that way. Because he knew that no matter what he did, you would always have that warmth in your eyes when you looked at him. You would always forgive him, no matter what he did.
Part of him wishes his dad could’ve met you.
You reach out and put your hand on his shoulder, trying not to overstep. Rafe stares down at your hand, so small in comparison to his shoulder. Something about it makes his chest tighten. It seems intimate, and he feels… safe. Safe with you. Which is a feeling he hasn't felt in God knows how long.
His hand slowly lifts, his rough fingers wrapping around your wrist. He brings your hand to his face, cupping his cheek. Your thumb brushes over his cheek gently, back and forth.
God, the feeling of you touching him, comforting him, was too much. Your touch was too gentle and warm, and he hated that he wanted it. He hated the way his chest ached at the sight of your soft, kind expression. He had so many reasons he shouldn't be here, shouldn't be letting you touch him like this, and yet there was something inside of him, a small voice in the back of his mind, constantly begging him to please let you take care of him. “Can I ask you something?”
“‘Course.” You say softly.
Rafe glances at you, eyes flicking between your hand and your face. God, he hated this. Your touch on his face, the tenderness in your voice, the look in your eyes. It was driving him absolutely insane. His eyes close, as if he was debating if he actually wanted to ask you this. “Am I poison? Am I poison in the water?”
“What do you mean?” You ask, eyebrows furrowing.
He opens his eyes again, hand still holding yours to his cheek. He holds your gaze, eyes softening. He hated how vulnerable he was, and yet there was a small piece of him, buried deep inside, that needed it. He could tell you anything right now, and you wouldn't judge him. You would just listen. Care. “Do I… poison everything I touch? Am I the poison that kills everything?”
“No, of course not,” You move closer to him on the couch. “Why would you ask that?”
God, he could smell you, your perfume a subtle, sweet scent that was driving him crazy. He closes his eyes as you move closer, and his jaw tightens. This was insane; he wasn't weak, he wasn't vulnerable, he did not need you. But then again, the hand on yours on his face had yet to move. “Because,” his voice drops to a whisper. “I know that I'm a sick, twisted bastard. I know that I make others sick. I hurt everyone I care about.”
“Rafe, I will admit you aren’t exactly the nicest guy,” You swallow roughly, unsure of what to even say. “But you still have people that care about you. Your friends, your sisters. They know the real Rafe, the guy underneath all the aggression.”
He lets out a long, shaky breath. God, he hated this. He hated being vulnerable. He hated opening up to you, and seeing that look of concern in your eyes. He wants to run, to close you out, leave and forget this ever happened. He wants to go back to treating you like one of his conquests, instead of feeling like he wanted you to hold him. But for some reason, his mouth wasn't listening to his brain. “But what about you?”
“Of course, I care about you,” You say. “I thought that would at least be obvious.”
He had a thousand different replies on the tip of his tongue, but instead his mouth just opened and closed, words dying when they left his lips. Everything in his mind was screaming at him to get up and leave, but there was a deeper part of him, a small piece of himself that he kept buried inside, deep in the back of his mind, that kept whispering, telling him to sit. It was the part that kept his hand on your wrist. He swallows hard, looking away. “I wish my dad was still here.”
“I know,” You say softly. “I’m sorry.”
He felt his eyes begin to sting, something that only added to his frustration. Frustration at himself, for being pathetic enough to cry. Frustration at you, for making him weak enough to cry. Frustration at Ward, for leaving him and his sisters behind. He suddenly hated everything. He hated you. He hated himself. He hated Ward for leaving him with feelings, making him weak. “I don't even know why I came here,” He mutters through gritted teeth. “I just... I wish I could've been good enough for him. I tried to be good.”
“You don’t know how Ward truly felt about you, Rafe.” You say, stroking his cheekbone again.
He hated the way you were comforting him, hated the way you were so gentle with him. He was always on the defensive, on the attack, so when someone was soft with him... Well, the way his chest ached was proof that it was something he wasn't used to. He swallows hard, closing his eyes. “But I do. His actions spoke louder than his damn words ever did,” He chuckles, pinching the bridge of his nose. “It's so stupid, you know, I... I used to pray I’d be like him, do everything that he did. And sometimes I still do.”
“That’s not stupid.” You say.
He lets his hand fall from your wrist, shaking his head. He hated talking about this, he hated admitting how much Ward’s death has messed him up. He didn’t want to talk, didn’t want to open up to anybody. The words leaving his lips, however, were not his own. “I hate that I don’t know if he was proud of me... I hate that I’ll never know if I did right by him.”
You remove your hand when he goes to cover his face. You watch him for a few moments, unsure of what to do, when you notice his shoulders shake.
Is he crying?
Your eyes widen when you hear a sob rip through him, shoulders shaking up and down. “Hey, hey, Rafe, it’s okay. Don’t cry.”
He hated crying, absolutely hated it, but there he was, shoulders trembling, tears streaming down his cheeks. He couldn’t stop, no matter how hard he tried. “I’m not even- I…” His voice breaks, chest rattling. He lets out a long, shaky breath, shaking his head as he wipes away the tears from his cheeks. He couldn’t even look at you. He hated feeling so weak. Hated that you were seeing this side of him.
“It’s okay,” You put your arm around him, trying to hug him. “It’s okay--”
Rafe suddenly stands, pushing you back. “No. Don’t… don’t fucking pretend like you care.” He wipes his tears with the back of his hand, ashamed that he let Ward affect him this much. He was supposed to be strong. Powerful. Not weak.
“I’m not pretending.” You say, standing up.
His jaw tightens, his expression hardening into a sharp glare. God, he was tired of you, of your sweet words, of your gentle smiles. It was messing with his head, playing with his feelings. “Yeah, right.” He mutters, shaking his head. “You don’t care, don’t bullshit me.”
“Of course I care about you, Rafe,” You say, taking a step closer to him. “I… I lov--”
“No!” He suddenly snaps at you. He didn't want to hear that. He couldn't. “Don’t… don’t you dare,” You stare at him, confusion on your pretty little face, and it’s driving him fucking crazy. “Don’t. Don’t tell me. Keep that shit to yourself.”
You don’t know what to say, and you don’t want to upset him even more. You just nod, taking a step back.
He wanted to hit something. He wanted to break something. He hated the sight of that look on your face. The confusion, the worry, the disappointment. He didn’t understand. Why did you care? He didn’t deserve it, not one bit. What the hell did you think you’d get out of loving someone like him? That he’d love you back? That he’d change for you?
The silence is deafening. You want to say something, you just don’t know what. You take a shaky breath. “I’m here for you, Rafe. You know that. In any way you need me.”
“Why?” He asks suddenly, eyes meeting yours. “Why are you still here for me? Why do you care about me so goddamn much? Why can’t you just give up on me, like everyone else has?”
“Do I look like everyone else?” You ask.
Oh, but that was the problem. You were different. You were the only person in that damn town who was as sweet as you were patient. Who cared so god-damn much about someone so undeserving of that love. “Don’t you think I know that?” He asks, voice dropping to a whisper. “Don’t you think it pisses me off that you are the way you are?”
“I just want you to be happy, Rafe, and if I can make you happy, I want to.” You say.
Why did you have to be so goddamn sweet? It was driving him mad, the way you stood there, so willing and eager to do whatever it took to help him. He let out a long, shaky breath, staring down at you. “It was different when you were just some girl I was hooking up with.” He says, shaking his head.
“I’m still that girl,” You insist. “Nothing has to change. We can go back to normal. Forget this ever happened.”
His eyes narrow as you speak. He hated that you said that, hated how willing you were to forget the fact that he cried in front of you, and yet he hated himself for the fact that he almost wanted to agree. “Really?” He asks, his voice sharp. “You’d just… forget this? Go back to letting me use you, like nothing happened?”
“If that’s what you want.” You say.
He hated the idea of that. The idea of going back to using you. Of treating you like trash when he knew that you cared so damn much.
Part of him liked hurting you, like watching you fall apart at his hands. But it was the other side of him that hated how good it felt at first, hated the pit of shame in his chest that grew each time you begged him to stay, or cried while he left, or looked at him like he meant the world to you.
Part of him knew you deserved better.
Rafe sighs, looking away. “Fine. We forget about this.”
“Okay.” You say, nodding.
The fact that you didn't say anything, that you didn't fight back, made his chest ache. God, he hated this. He wanted to yell at you. Wanted to push you down, pin you to the couch, and make you cry out his name. He wanted you to ask him to stay, fight him to prove to him that you cared. He hated how your willingness to forget it all made him want to wrap his arms around you. He couldn't stay. He would do something risky, something that he would regret in the morning. He sniffles, wiping his eyes again. “I'm gonna go.”
You swallow thickly. “If you’re sure. My door is always open.”
“Yeah,” He replies, his voice hoarse. He hated that your gentleness, your sweetness, still managed to get to him. He steps closer to you. He wanted to touch you again. To feel your warm, soft skin against his palm. But he knew better. He knew that if he touched you, he wouldn’t be able to stop himself. “Thanks for being there.” He mumbles, his voice cracking.
“Of course.” You smile softly.
He hates how your smile makes his chest ache, hates the tug it gives his heart. He hated how he cared about you, hated how he was so weak that he allowed himself to open up to you. And God, he hated how he was thinking about kissing your pretty, pouty lips. “I'll be back tomorrow night. Deal?”
“Deal.”
Rafe nods, licking his lips. He rocks back and forth on his feet before reaching out and cupping the back of your head, pressing his lips to your forehead. Enough to keep you hooked. “See you later, sweetheart.”
Your entire body is buzzing. “Drive safe.”
You’re still standing in the same spot when he leaves, shutting the door behind him.
And you will wait for the next time he wants you.

Stupid question I got but how’d some of your OCs feel about thigh high socks, pantyhose, and just general borderline provocative clothing?
Also any of them prefer lingerie? Or don’t really care for it at all?
yandere boys and provocative clothing
Hmm interesting question. I think that each guy has his own version of provocative clothing - something you wear that immediately has him undoing his belt - and its not always what you expect.
Yandere! Cowboy is the happiest man around when it's sundress season. Pretty and flowy and showing off your tits just right. Not to mention the easy access. He'll probably come up behind you and pin you between the kitchen table and his body, hands trailing up your thighs and his nose pressed against your hair.
"Wearin' such a pretty dress means you want me to fuck your little brains out, don't it sugar?"
Yandere! Soldier goes feral when you wear his shirts and socks and nothing else. Nipples just visible through the thin cotton. He's much bigger than you, and his shirts usually fall between mid and upper thigh on you. Seeing the size difference manifested like that is so damn sexy. He's the type to tug at your hemline again and again until you snap at him and give him a reason to pull you onto his lap.
"так грубо - So rude. Shouldn't you be nicer to me when you're wearing my clothes?"
Yandere! Boyfriend buys you tiny, tight gym sets. The kind that toe the line between appropriate and not. HOWEVER you will absolutely not be wearing any of them out of the house. They're perfect for lifting weights in the garage, but no one gets to see you dressed like that besides him. After a long, brutal gym session he loves peeling your sports bra off. Totally ignoring you when you beg him to at least let you shower first.
"C'mon baby, as your personal trainer it's my job to take care of you after such a gruelling set."
Yandere! State Trooper gets turned on so damn easy by heels and pencil skirts. Loves the way your legs look a mile long and he can just make out the heart shape of your ass. Kinda corporate core, it makes him feel all the filthier to have you on your knees. Gets out all the tension after a long day of dealing with stuck up business assholes who think money puts them above the law.
"Say pretty please and maybe I won't handcuff you this time."
Yandere! Academic Rival has low-key Internet brainrot. He gets off to you whenever you look like an e-girl, complete with thigh high socks and a tight leather choker. He might be all old money on the outside, but deep down he's a total gooner. Did you figure it out early on and now constantly use it to your advantage? Who's to say...
"Goddammit, how am I supposed to study when you're dressed like that?!"
Yandere! Cyberpunk Mercenary likes latex and neon, unsurprisingly. Bright body suits that glow fuschia and acid green under the blacklights, showing off your curves like a glow in the dark fuck toy. And tight latex catsuits so he can oil up your thighs and fuck himself silly between them.
"Aww pretty little rich girl doesn't know how to take cock? Don't worry darl', I'll teach you."
Yandere! Sugar Daddy loves designer lingerie. He wants his to girl to dress up for him in the rarest and finest sets, just so he can peel it away layer by layer. He's also got a thing for vintage lingerie. Stuff from older designer collections that's almost impossible to find. The thrill of tracking down a new piece is half the fun.
"My gorgeous girl, you look so good. Just stand still and let me admire you."
Yandere! Werewolf really loves the way you look in your cheerleader uniform. Short skirt, pigtails, so fucking cute he could just gobble you up. And he adores it when you wear his football jersey - his scent is all over it and it drives him crazy knowing it's rubbing off on you. In his dreams, you're usually wearing his jersey and nothing else.
"I'm panting because of training, not because of how good you look, I swear."

Summary: Piano strings thrum in place of the ones belonging to your heart; playing a requiem for feelings that were never supposed to bloom or even make it.
Contains: angst, hurt, longing, conflicted feelings, music, confusion, he likes you in a way that isn’t homicidal and struggles to deal, you’re just emotional, fear and hopelessness with a few flickers of comfort
A/N- this is how I’m coping with TikTok being banned. I miss everyone so much right now. Cried writing this so I’m sorry.
。 ˚ ︶︶✩︶︶ ₊ ˚ ︶︶✩︶︶ 。˚ 。 ˚ ︶︶✩︶︶ ₊ ˚ ︶︶
This was new.
Tentative breaths shake the atmosphere of the unfamiliar space as you try to quietly adjust. You don’t even remember how you got here, to his apartment but here you are. It’s comfortable, furnished and organized with monochromatic colors and a piano in the middle of the large space and that’s when you remember.
You’d asked him after one of your trysts if he had any secret talents. The question- like you- was unusual but he answers out of the barb-teethed fondness he’s grown for you.
“I’m quite good on the piano.”
Your eyebrows shoot to your hairline at the unexpectedness and you wonder if anyone who’s ever known him knows about his hidden gift.
“You’ve gotta play for me one day.” It’s the first time he’s heard that word without any of the usual foreboding. Play. He can’t recall the last time he ever has in such a meaningful way. He surprises himself by agreeing, nodding with one of his pretty disarming smiles.
“Sure. Maybe I’ll even sing for you too.”
And that’s how you got here. Laying on plush carpet as you lean up on your elbows, next to the large piano as you watch the man sitting at its keys. He’s in a simple dress shirt with the forearms rolled up, black slacks and grey socks. Less put together as strands of hair fall in his face but still beautiful and you feel your heart ache. He shuffles closer before glancing down at you, smiling with the side of his mouth then turning back to the instrument. Seconds later music fills the quiet space around you, stopping your heart before it jumps to your throat as your recognize the melody from the first few notes alone.
He hears your gasp and knows you know exactly what song he’s playing but he doesn’t stop to taunt you- instead he keeps playing. Notes growing in volume then tempo as they spin over each other, cascading in and out of depth before they descend. You go still with wide eyes as you listen, lips shaking from the onslaught of sudden emotion and you swear you hear the words as he shatters your defenses with sure, precise fingers on ivory keys; leaving you bare in all the ways that matter and it’s as mesmerizing as it is heartbreaking.
It was a dangerous dance feeling what you’re feeling for him because he was so limited in both heart and character.
You still didn’t even know what he did for a living but you became familiar with him anyways, what was a fun convenient thing bled into something more with each time he sought you out.
The quiet life you maintained was like a soothing balm to the mangled parts of him he’d given up on healing years ago; accepting that he was just too far gone.
But then there was suddenly you. Scolding him on the train that he “shouldn’t bully the misfortunate” or else one day he’d wake up ugly and even agreeing to play one of his games only the beat him the first and only time you did, refusing to entertain him. Sticking your tongue out at him before getting off at your stop.
“Not hot shit now are you? Dirtbag…”, glaring with a curled lip as you walked off. Maybe it was then. You picked an issue with him not for profit but to stand up for someone you didn’t even know and he couldn’t wrap his head around it. So, he settled for his arms instead and you were nice but nicer when he was nice too and it gave him a glimpse into the other side of life. One he’d never given a thought to.
Yes; he might be able to live with you one day but he could never stay and you could never know why. He refused to drown you in the heavy blood of his world.
When he winds the chorus back, and you find yourself close to tears as you listen to each key; phantom lyrics ringing in your ears.
“I used to hear a simple song,
That was until you came along.
You took my broken melody-
and now I hear a symphony.”
You close your eyes to stop the water because when it rains it pours and against everything, unfortunately- you like him.
The final string of notes soften their crescendo as the song ends and silence fills the space once again. Even with the music gone, you still feel like crying.
He really was quite good on the piano.
You can’t keep your eyes closed forever though but when you open them, he’s already looking at you and your misty eyes, cooing at the tremble in your bottom lip.
“Aw. You’re sensitive to music too-?” You ignore the flippancy in his tone as you cut him off, voice small when you throw caution to the wind for the comfort you so desperately need right now before you fall apart wanting to keep something that was decaying.
“Can I please have a hug?”
Your request shocks him enough to knock his usual ever-present grin off his face for a minute before he wordlessly slides down to where your sitting on the floor, watery eyes firmly fixed onto the carpet before he pulls you into his lap, wrapping you in his arms and you stiffen before melting into him with a sigh, burying your head in his chest.
He doesn’t say anything. If he did, it would end in disaster because he’s never comforted anyone honestly in his life. He could’ve ignored you but he found he didn’t want to, instead he let you need him- wanted you to need him as he consoled you.
You were so unlike him. So different from the strife he normally caused and he wasn’t sure what to do.
“If I knew it would’ve upset you so much, I’d have said something pointless like solving a rubix cube.” You snort at that and the sound gives him a strange sense of relief.
“It’s fine, I’m not upset so don’t worry. It’s not like you.” He stays silent because he knows. He knows any kind of concern that comes from him is abnormal but it’s you.
“Getting soft on me-“
“I could make you cry again if that’s what you’d prefer?”
You two bicker way too casually for the amount of gaps in your relationship but somehow it fits, driving you to settle into him more with a deep breath, enjoying his scent. Neither of you knew what was going on but you’d cross that bridge when it got to burning. For now though;
“You can do that later but let’s just stay like this for a little while longer?”
“….”
“..alright.”

Joel doesn’t know what he did to be able to have you like this—to be able to steal this time from you—when you have so much else.
Even worse, you’re a dream. Soft and gorgeous and strung up for him, belly flush to the mattress with your wrists laid over the knobs of your spine, gathered in a twist of baby blue.
He sits against the backs of your thighs, his own bracketing the swell of your hips, cock bobbing in a sticky pool over the smooth surface of your inner leg. You suck in a breath and punch out a whine each time you can feel the firmness of him, grazing over every slice of skin except where he knows you want him most.
He peers down, runs a hand across the link of your wrists, smiling when he sees the way you’ve tucked two fingers into the hollow of your palm—holding your own hand—like you have to discipline yourself one extra degree.
After taking his mouth and his fingers for as long as he’d pleased without too much push-back, your efforts don’t go unnoticed, “Go on and ask me what you want to ask me, sweetheart. Think you’ve earned that much.”
“Can you touch me?” He can see you tug against where you’re bonded, an extension of your plea.
Joel thinks it’s a sad thing, the made-by-hand contraption he’s used to restrain you—a wide loop of tall ribbon sewn through the center to leave a pair of loose cuffs. He’d originally crafted it because he wanted to give you something pretty—a gift that wouldn’t cause concern or raise any unwanted attention, perfectly mundane when stowed in the safety of your sock drawer. It was the first for-you-from-him that went beyond his body, something he selfishly hoped could also serve as a memento should he ever become just the past.
It took him one weekend to make and two months to bring to you, driving up that long stretch of unfinished pavement and pulling it out of his pocket, red-cheeked and anxious. The seams are jagged where he spent hours sealing them shut, barreling over each other in a weave to keep the integrity, the deep color of the thread more than a few shades off—steel against pastel. He had tried to hide the imperfections, smooth side up in his hand as he muttered some lame preamble about something nicer than using the underwear, sometimes. He remembers the face you made at him when you unwound his hold, no huff of laughter at his break in character like he thought, telling him you loved it.
It’s the only thing you use now.
“‘M already all over you; already put so much of me on you, in you. What do you mean, baby? Be more specific.”
“I need you—need it inside.”
He tugs on the center strip—the binding—rolling a finger over the lip to tighten the slack that allows the accessory to be slip-on. That feature, other than making the contraption reusable, alleviated the issue of markings; his stomach sinks when he’s reminded evidence is even a factor.
He bends down, initially careful to keep his cock at surface level when he hovers over you, the bristle of his beard behind your ear making him sigh, that spark of possessiveness bringing something hungrier, “Say it again.”
“Can you please put–”
“Don’t be smart. You know what I want to hear; say it again.”
Tipping forward on his knees, he lets the length of him run down the crest of your ass, passing through where he can feel your heartbeat, shining folds of flesh that beg to be parted—ever the fool who can’t deny you much for long.
“I need you.”
His chest constricts, heart dimpling underneath where you’re always holding it in your clutch; just the weight of your desire for him is enough to pull his body down through the ground, to the other side of the earth. He needs you, too, so desperately. Naively, in moments like this, with declarations like that, he sees success in all of this—sees keeping you.
Joel leans back, thumb sliding against the stripe of wet at your cunt, peeling back the seam to get a better look at the hole he wants so horribly to fill. His cock aches, heavy and hot and ready to take.
He wishes he could savor it—tries to every time—but he never knows how long this will last. How long it will be before you attend the couples counseling sessions your husband asks of you. How long before you decide that a house and kids and the life he can’t provide for you might actually be enough. How long it’ll be before you just tire of him. So he’s greedy, takes everything you feed him straight to the stomach; he doesn’t have the patience to chew, in fear of not being able to finish.
He has nothing to offer, after all; no love letter, no borrowed jacket, no wedding ring. This is all he has to show his devotion, to seal his promise—a fist full of glossy blue and the willingness to unfurl his body and scoop out his insides just to allow you a place to lay. All he can give you is himself.
And he does—uses that exploring hand to guide the head of his cock to the slip of warmth you so meanly demand him to enter, so sweetly beg him to stay in.
“Again.”
He rolls his other wrist to gather up more of that silk, dragging the mess of limbs higher up your back, both for leverage and to remind you he’s strong—worth that, too.
When he slides himself in, he can feel the squeeze run through to the very tips of his toes, the points of his ears—boiling, syrupy heat that forces his body to lock up, terrified to fall over and take his last breath as a result.
“I’ll give you as much of this cock as you want, honey. Just want to hear a few little words.”
He pushes in firmly despite his threats, and so easily does he meet the end of you, apex of your womb perfectly made to receive him, like you’d been fitted for each other. He pants as silently as he can, setting aside his pleasure in favor of yours, not even to be distracted by his own voice.
Joel forces as much of his weight as you can handle on the bundle at your back, swinging into you with the power of everything he’s too afraid to confess. He can fuck that reassurance into you, instead—make up for his inability to be confident in those more tender moments with the role he takes in this swirl of lust.
He can tell by the way you constrict around him that you’re close, the squelch of where you meet heightening every time he moves in to the hilt.
“I’m gonna come, Joel. Fuck.”
“Don’t like askin’ twice. C’mon, focus.”
He bows again, bracing his legs so he can wedge his right arm through the slot at your hip, elbow flat to the bed as he reaches down, in. Your clit is smeared in your slick, running down from where he’s giving you everything, and thinks maybe you understand what he’s trying to tell you without words. He pushes as best he can against the bead, fingers working rhythmically to bring you there, knowing he won’t be able to take much more.
You’re crying now, it seems, from the broken shape your words take as they fall out, “I-I, Joel. I need you. Please. I love you.”
He can’t handle that, the pulse of his orgasm almost immediate, the fierce curl of your cunt around him no help. You whine under him, and if it weren’t for the risk of crushing you, he’d take his mouth to yours.
He fucks you until he can’t, until he expresses his response to exhaustion. He’s heaving by the end, forehead to your shoulder where it’s glued down with sweat.
It takes him much longer now to come down, to shimmy out from over your body, to release and turn and fold you into his lap.
Cruelly, he keeps the silk in his palm, thinking he can force another memory into it by making it bear witness to all of this; another knot in your ‘relationship’—as close as this will ever come to being that, anyway.
Joel breathes at the crown of your skull, hair tickling his lips when he finally decides to break the silence, “Do you really?” And before it has the chance to be taken away from him, “I love you, too.”

Steve and Avenger!Reader going to a Christmas Market please! 🥰 Can be any sort of relationship but wouldn't mind a Christmas Market proposal...
Thank you so much, this is perfect for both @buck-star's fluffy winter event (Christmas Market) and Day 1 of @the-slumberparty's December Daze: (let me dust the snow off your coat/hat/shoulder)
Words/Warnings: 2,315 / tooth-rotting fluff

MCU MASTERLIST | STEVE ROGERS | BUCKY BARNES

Don’t Mind If I Do
“Even North Carolina is freezing cold this morning, I checked. Trust me, this will be worth it.”
You frown in your perfect blanket cocoon. “All right, I’ll be out front by 8. And I’m cranking the heat in my rooms to 74 while I do it, just so I’ll be in a nicer mood for you!”
“You won’t regret it, sweetheart.”
With that, the two of you hang up, and you tap the + icon multiple times in the app that controls the heating in your suite. The Avengers Compound isn’t much to look at from the outside, but they make up for that in amenities. The only catch is, the suites are much too small to share with anyone. Despite your year-long committed relationship, you and Steve haven’t been able to truly ‘sleep over’ or spend couples time comfortably while stationed here. His rental apartment in NYC is lovely, and you’ve spent time together there, but both of you tend to be work-oriented. You’ve made do with what you have, even when that means sometimes cramming into Steve’s twin sized, extra-long bed here at the Compound.
Besides, you remind yourself as you rush through your morning routine, Steve Rogers isn’t the ‘shack up’ type, so it’s not like you’d be sharing an apartment if one were available. Still, it feels wrong to wake up without his warm, strong body next to yours on a cold day like this.
Steve had told you to dress for being outside, so after pulling on a thick pair of socks and lacing up your hiking boots, you don a knitted hat and shrug on a winter coat over your sweater. You meet up with Steve in the atrium of the building, feeling that familiar flush when he turns and lights up to see you.
“Oh perfect, you look nice and warm,” Steve says, quickly adding, “--and beautiful too. Very.”
He always leads with the truth, but as a boyfriend, he’s made you feel lovely enough for a superhero, leading to this in-joke of adding that compliment as an afterthought. You know him enough now to recognize when he thinks the second part first, and the face he’d made after turning around tells you this is one of those days.
“Are any of those pre-requisites for your secret Saturday morning outing?”
“Two of those are permanent, but yes, being warm will help,” he says, holding out a bare hand for you to take.
Inwardly grinning, you start to slip off your own glove, then pause. “Exactly how cold is it in North Carolina versus here? Do I need to grab a scarf?” Before working with the Avengers, you’d been stationed at Fort Liberty, so the climate difference between that and upstate New York had taken a little getting used to.
Steve takes your glove, tucks it into your pocket (being sure to crowd close enough to blatantly smell your hair), and then takes your bare hand in his bare hand to walk out into the brisk December air. It’s cold.
“At least ten degrees warmer than this, but I’d be happy to offer my arm as a scarf,” he says, squeezing your hand as you wend your way through the parked cars.
“You’re ten times better looking than all of my scarves, so I think I win!”
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/de23957cb6a984e14043afc2c00af5ac/f3dfe7fccc4f42ef-ad/s540x810/18cfdf94ab8f694ac195094f5073697c7a1fee94.jpg)
The drive is cozy with the heat on and an oldies Christmas station crooning the classics. After almost a half hour of light conversation and heavy exchanged glances, Steve pulls into a charming neighborhood decked to the rafters with holiday cheer. You peer out the windows, trying to figure out the plan. Are there sleigh-hay rides? An ice skating rink? Maybe a holiday quilt show set up in an 18th century church somewhere? You’re so caught up by the possibilities that you miss the instructions Steve gets from a woman wearing a high-vis jacket and Santa hat until the car parks, and he turns it off.
There’s something almost ceremonial about the way your boyfriend pats each of his warm trenchcoat’s pockets to find his gloves before pulling them on and flexing his hands. It’s captivating, not dissimilar to the way he girds himself for battle (whether physically or morally, you’ve noticed).
“You see my hat anywhere?” he asks, finally turning to look at you.
“Crap. I might have sat on it,” you realize.
Steve grins. “Well, it’ll be warm.”
You both get out of the car, and Steve dons his pre-warmed hat before gesturing toward the city center a few blocks away. “Christmas market.”
If your life was a film, that’s where either the Hallelujah Chorus or a full-on tire screech would have happened, but as it is, you fall sideways into him and catch yourself on his lapel, looking up at him with wide, delighted eyes.
“You promise? Oh God, that was way too Hallmark of me, I’m sorry-- but… you promise?” you ask, going through three vastly different facial expressions in the process.
“I promise,” Steve says, taking your hand in his, then lifting both to kiss the back of yours.
Christmas markets had been a staple of your childhood, and your family used to travel pretty far afield to see new and favorite ones. As your family’s circumstances had changed, those trips had dwindled, and by the time you were out of high school, they were a treasured memory of a no-longer-possible past. The years since then have mostly involved you throwing yourself into your work, becoming the kind of person soldiers and civilians alike can trust and rely on. If you’re honest, your time with the Avengers has been more fulfilling than even those precious school years of summer beaches, birthday parties, and chilly strolls through magical small-town holiday displays.
Part of that is Steve, a genuine hero and painfully good man who somehow seems to love you almost as much as you love him. Since the first moment you met he’s held out his hand for you in support. He’s a teammate, a challenger, a role model, and honestly? A partner.
“Snow! Look at that!” You can hear the smile in his voice. Light, gentle flurries have started to drift down just as you visit the first festive stall. It’s perfect timing, since some of the crafts on display are delicate handmade snowflake ornaments. “If you’ve got an ‘in’ with the weather, sir, I’d love to learn your secrets,” Steve jokes with the owner.
“It snows for you, to make perfect day for you and your wife!” the elderly man says with a beatific expression. “Please, you must take one for your tree at home.”
The two of you have two separate small trees, a result made necessary by the size of your living spaces at the Compound. You can see Steve tense up, clearly uncomfortable with the hinted, benign falsehood.
“Oh, but I must have both of these, too! How much?” you rush to say, pulling out your wallet and holding them up next to the one the owner pressed into Steve’s hand. It feels like your responsibility to meet the men in the middle.
“This is so we can see them from all angles, you understand,” Steve says.
“Of course!” the man says, a secretive smile playing on his lips. “Three is a good number, and I wish you a successful day!”
Steve’s cheeks have a distinct pinkish tinge to them for the next set of booths, but you avoid teasing him about it. This is not the first time someone’s misidentified the two of you as married, and you’ve always tread very carefully during those moments. Have you dreamed about marrying Steve Rogers? God, yes. You’d never say anything though. Proposing to Captain America is almost a national sport, something you’ve witnessed firsthand. Heck, you wouldn’t be surprised if he rejected you out of habit if you tried proposing.
It does look like you’ll both get to dodge your more famous secondary identities today. A lot of that is thanks to Tony’s fleet of look-alike cars, his insane security for the whole campus, and the way Steve can somehow dress and look like a regular, if burly country guy. However it’s happened, you’re incredibly grateful that your relationship has skated under the press radar. You suspect that Steve’s ‘couple behavior’ this morning is a result of happiness, holiday cheer, and perceived anonymity (you like the scruff he’s sported these past weeks, but… come to think of it, you wonder if he grew it just for that extra layer of obfuscation. Cap doesn’t quite pull National Icon status with hints of a beard, after all).
After forty minutes of happily wandering from booth to booth and window display to window display, the two of you decide to partake in the reason why everyone’s there so early in the morning: Christmas pastry from one of the best bakeries in central New York.
The town has set up a charming eating area just off the central square in a church parking lot. There are evergreen trees lining one side, each decorated in a different (sometimes chaotic) style and heavily festooned with lights. The picnic tables are all red and green, and hanging from a few of the arching lightposts is a bundle of familiar-looking plant-life. Steve sends you to snag a seat ahead of him while he waits in line, and when he comes back, he’s got twice as many goodies as you expected, all piled up on one plate.
“They all have a label on them saying ‘Mistle-hug,’” he says, standing at the end of the table. “I have two plates’ worth here, but they were much more stable like this.”
“How are we going to eat all this?” you ask, delighted nonetheless. You take the plate and carefully liberate the second stacked plate so you can distribute the bounty evenly, but Steve doesn’t hasn’t sat down yet. “If you don’t come pick out what you want, I’m going to get greedy!” you lie in a singsong voice. All he does in response is say your name softly.
“What are you--” you ask as you straighten up and look over at him. He’s standing at almost battle stance, frozen still with one hand tucked into the inside of his jacket. You immediately see the beautiful pattern the snow’s made on his shoulder, and pop to your feet with your phone.
“Wait, that’s not--” Steve says in a bewildered voice, his brows adorably furrowed even when you show him the picture.
“Here,” you say impudently, reaching up to kiss at his shoulder and thus melt the ‘offending’ snowflake art so he can feel free to sit down. “All perfect now.”
“You’re completely right,” Steve says. There’s something odd in the tenor of his voice-- and then suddenly he’s on one knee in front of you, pulling that hand out of his coat pocket with a recognizably-sized box.
You’ve got tears in your eyes, flowers blooming in your heart, and powdered sugar on your hands, which is why you’d chosen to kiss the snow off instead of brush it, but then Steve starts to speak.
“I was going to do this by the big tree, but then it hit me-- I spent years locked in ice, and it was all because I was waiting for you to come kiss all the cold away. You’re everything I didn’t and couldn’t know I needed-- a warm smile, a fighting heart, a clever mind, and more than that, you make me feel smarter, stronger, and happier when I’m with you. Will you marry me?”
You can barely get the word ‘YES!’ out past the lump in your throat, but you’d started nodding as soon as he opened his mouth. Steve tugs the ring out of the box and slides it perfectly onto your finger before surging upwards, pulling you into a twirling, joyful hug that dances the two of you a good few feet away from your table.
“Look, they’re under the Mistle-hug!” some voice calls out, and Steve’s --your future husband’s-- chest starts shaking with laughter. He sets you down and you both look up. A mere centimeter above his head spins one of the fake mistletoe pieces, its label dislodged by your antics. A ‘Hug! Hug! Hug!’ chant starts from the growing crowd of onlookers, and you nod up at Steve, your heart in your eyes.
“Don’t mind if I do!” he quips, engulfing you in a bear hug that leaves your newly-adorned left hand once again resting right on his chest. At the very edges of the roaring in your ears you hear a few people correctly guess who the two of you are, but you’re too delighted to mind.
A half hour later, when most of the well-wishers are finished offering their advice, encouragements, and pieces of paper for Steve to autograph, you notice that you’d left a powdered sugar outline on his coat.
“Oops, sorry about that,” you tell Steve, nodding at the handprint and grabbing a wreath-adorned paper napkin to dip it in your cider to wash it off.
“Leave it,” he says, stopping you with a possessive little thumb swipe across the ring he’d placed on your finger. “Feels like it belongs there, just like you, sweetheart.”
You want to tell him all the ways you love him, all the things he’s made better in your life, all the demons he’s conquered for you simply by being Steve Rogers, but you’re speechless. All at once, the perfect tension-breaker hits you, and you can’t help but laugh.
“What is it?” Steve asks in a wary, amused tone. It’s another sign of how well you know each other.
“Can we try to convince Tony that I get to take the name Mrs. America?"

Under the Microscope, Part 3 (Yandere Sabo X Reader)

CW: vomit is discussed but not described in detail
on Ao3 | Part 1 Part 2
You groggily moved your head from side to side on a soft pillow, moaning quietly. This infirmary bed was way nicer than any you’d been on before, maybe the Marines had finally upgraded them. You felt terrible. No, worse than terrible. Your mouth was dry and your head felt like it was full of cotton. Your stomach was already sore and you felt nauseous. What had happened to you? You thought back to the last thing you remembered. Guard duty, magnifying, Sabo….Sabo. Sabo had…drugged you. And taken you. You had a fleeting feeling of betrayal, which was foolish since Sabo wasn’t loyal to you. Or your friend. Or anything to you, really, except your captor.
You sat up, which set your stomach roiling. You quickly realized you were on a ship, which was bad for two reasons. One, you were being taken to a secondary location. Your chances of being rescued were getting slimmer and slimmer the farther you got from your base. Second, you were highly prone to seasickness. It was another reason you didn’t switch bases often. You had a hard time on the Grand Line, with its famously rough waters. The last time you’d set sail was over three years ago, and it had been at least five days before you could keep anything down. And as if on cue, you felt the urge to throw up. The ship was rocking heavily and it felt like a storm was coming. You were able to stuff the feeling down for now, but you doubted it would stay away for long. You looked around the room for something to throw up into. If you were going to be a captive, you were going to be a gross one. Serves Sabo right for kidnapping you.
You saw a small trash can near a writing desk, that would have to do. You threw the blankets off of your body, noticing quickly that someone had changed you out of your Marine uniform. You were wearing a dark billowy shirt, socks, and your underwear. Nothing else. Your stomach dropped as you thought of someone changing you while you slept. You hoped it wasn’t Sabo. You scooted to the edge of the bed, putting your legs over the side. You needed to get to that trash can as soon as possible, you were feeling sicker by the second. You put your weight on your feet and stood up. You felt your blood rush quickly to your head, making you dizzy. You put a hand on the mattress to stabilize yourself. You needed to move, now.
Forcing yourself to walk quickly, you just made it to the trash can before you collapsed to your knees and forcefully vomited. Not much was coming out, but that wasn’t surprising. You’d been asleep for…however long and hadn’t eaten. You were dry heaving, which hurt your stomach even more. Tears streaked down your face from your effort. You hoped you wouldn’t pop the blood vessels in your eyes. The last time you’d been on a ship you’d had red eyes as a result for weeks. You were curled over yourself, one hand holding your stomach protectively, the other holding the garbage can. All of a sudden the door burst open, like there was an emergency.
“Mag? Mag, what are you doing out of bed? I was just -” You knew it was Sabo from the voice, he was speaking to you calmly but you were feeling scared. Scared because you were vulnerable - he was free and among his own crew, he could do anything to you. But you couldn’t hear anything else he said as the ship rocked heavily to the portside and you resumed heaving. You felt an overwarm hand on your back, rubbing it in soothing circles. It felt nice but too familiar for someone who had just kidnapped you. It also made you realize you were freezing and shivering so hard your teeth were chattering.
“Seasick?” Sabo asked, concerned. You nodded. You didn’t have the strength to ask him anything, maybe you’d get answers from him later, but not now. You didn’t know how far you were traveling, but you hoped it would not be too long of a journey.
“I’m going to pick you up now and put you back to bed, OK? I don’t think you can walk right now.” You didn’t think that you could walk either. Your head was spinning, your stomach hurt, and you were disoriented. You also didn’t know why he was bothering to tell you, he could do what he wanted. You were a Marine captive on an RA ship, he could kill you right now and face no repercussions. “Can you nod if that’s OK?” You nodded.
Sabo didn’t waste any time in picking you up, his arms under your knees and supporting your back. Your head rolled back against his chest. You blearily noted the shirt he was wearing - it was the same as yours only in white. When you felt better, you’d care more. Sabo gently deposited you in the bed, tucking you back under the covers. He looked at you closely, worry etched into his face. “Do you need a doctor?” You shook your head as you curled on your side. The boat was still lurching, you felt worse than when you woke up.
“B-buh-ket” you tried to speak but it came out a hoarse whisper. “Bucket,” you said again, straining your voice. Sabo moved quickly and retrieved the garbage can from the desk, putting it right next to the bed. He sat down on the edge of the bed, watching your every move. It was almost funny, your roles had reversed. Now you were the one being monitored while he was free to come and go. You were glad he hadn’t shackled you, though you wouldn’t have made it out of the room either way.
“You slept a long time, 18 hours. Between that and the seasickness, you’re dehydrated. I’m going to get you something to drink and some medicine.” Sabo reached out to touch your forehead and you flinched. He frowned but still tested your temperature. “It’ll be OK, Mag, don’t worry.”
“Don’t ca-call me that.” Sabo had already risen from the bed as you started feeling sick again. You closed your eyes, still on your side, facing away from him. You curled yourself into a smaller ball than you already were.
“Alright, love.” Sabo closed the door behind him as he left, and you heard the snick of a lock turning.
Sabo POV
Sabo felt bad for you as he watched you lay on his bed, shivering under his blankets. He hadn’t known you were prone to seasickness, but even if he had, the outcome would have been the same. You had to come with him away from the base, back to the RA headquarters. Still, he could have prepared more for such an outcome, he thought as he walked towards the medical supplies. This was one of the smaller RA ships, not even equipped with a real infirmary or medical professional. He hadn’t been planning on taking anyone with him from the base when he’d set out, so he hadn’t prepared for a guest to be on board.
He needed to get some liquids into you, you did not look well. He was already worried for your health since you’d been losing weight due to stress. Now on top of that, you were sick and may be for a few more days. Sabo was worried, and he was pretty sure he knew the most medical knowledge of everyone on board. He went to the kitchen and rummaged around looking for something light you might be able to eat. He didn’t think you would, but he wanted to offer something in case you did. He found some stale crackers in the back of a cupboard, that would have to do. He filled a pitcher with water and walked back to his room.
He knew he didn’t have to lock you in the room, there wasn’t anywhere for you to go. Aside from being seasick, you were at sea, it was not like you could escape. It was really for his own peace of mind that he did it. It made him feel more at ease to know that you’d be exactly where he left you. He was also unsure of how his fellow Revolutionaries would treat a Marine if he wasn’t around. Given that he was second in command of the Army, he didn’t think there would be any problems, but he felt better knowing that you couldn’t get out and no one could get in without his knowledge. After all, he had brought you here, he was responsible for you. He didn’t think of you as a captive, he’d just freed you from your prison. Once you saw his point of view, he was sure you’d agree. You were a logical thinking scientist, after all.
Unlocking and opening the door, Sabo noticed you hadn’t moved at all. He came over to your side and sat the pitcher and crackers down on the small bedside table. Your eyes were screwed shut and you were breathing shallowly. Sabo sat next to you on his bed and you didn’t react in any noticeable way. Sabo ran his hand over your shoulder, trying to get you to interact with him.
“I brought some water, I’d like you to take a sip now.” You moaned quietly. “I’m going to elevate you to sitting, just take a few sips then you can lie back down. Can you do that for me?” You nodded, cracking open your eyes. Sabo gently helped you to sit and poured water into a small cup from the carafe. He brought the cup to your mouth before you stopped his hand and took the cup in your own with a glare. He was sure that if you were better he’d be hearing how you could do this yourself. You took a sip and swallowed, grimacing. He wasn’t sure if it hurt you or soothed your throat, but you had to drink either way. “One more now, then a couple more sips in a few minutes.” You took another sip, then handed him back the cup. You looked like you’d expended all your energy with that small task. He set the cup back down and helped you lay back against the pillows. Sabo continued to sit with you while you lay there, covered in sweat with your eyes closed.
“Thank you,” you rasped, your voice hoarse.
“How long are you usually seasick?” Sabo was hoping this would subside by the end of the day.
“Three days. Sometimes more.” Sabo fought the urge to curse in front of you. He should have prepared more supplies for an occasion like this. The ship had a stockpile of weapons but only a small amount of coconut water to give you for electrolytes. But he said he’d take care of you and he would. He’d provide you with the best care he could and if he needed to divert the ship to an island or kidnap a physician, he’d do that too. He wanted to scoop you into his arms and cradle you like the treasure you were, but he knew you wouldn’t want that. So he contented himself by monitoring you. After a few minutes ensuring that the water didn’t come back up, he went back over to his writing desk to catch up on paperwork. But his gaze kept returning to your small shivering form on the bed, wishing he could help you more.
He knew you had some feelings for him, even if you didn't say it. You’d warned him, the Chief of Staff for the Revolutionary Army, that he needed to leave the base to avoid transfer to Impel Down. Once you told him, it had sealed your fate. It proved to him that you deserved more and better than anything those fools could offer you. He had been thinking of taking you with him since the moment you’d met, he knew you couldn’t remain with the Marines. Even if you didn’t acknowledge it, on a subconscious level you knew Sabo wasn’t a threat to you. You’d even stopped him from calling you that atrocious nickname, surely that meant you had some kind of feelings for him. He had originally planned to station you with someone else who could keep you safe - maybe Ivankov, who had a proclivity towards science. But once you’d shown your loyalty to what was right rather than what was expected of you, he knew you needed to stay with him. You’d agree soon.
Your POV
Twelve hours later and you were sure you were dying. Or maybe you just wished you were. You were still sick and the ship was now passing through a heavy storm. The ship was rocking wildly with waves crashing over the deck, causing everything that wasn’t bolted down to roll from side to side in the cabin. The pitcher of water had long since tipped over, leaving you without anything to drink. Not that you’d be able to keep it down anyway. You were able to keep yourself on the bed, but not much else. You felt like you were being flung every which way and you could feel you’d broken the blood vessels in your eyes from repeated vomiting. Every part of you hurt and you were scared - you’d never liked storms even when you were on land. Once you’d eaten your devil fruit, your anxiety around storms had intensified along with your fear of the water. Sabo had come and gone a few times before the brunt of the storm, but there’d been a call for all hands on deck, so he’d left to help. You didn’t blame him but his presence did have a calming effect on you. He was so self assured, so calm, so confident, he made you feel like he knew what to do all the time. You knew he wasn’t a safe person to rely on, but for now you couldn’t help it. You were vulnerable and he was comforting. You’d adjust yourself once you were well again. You just tried to keep yourself in the moment, breathing as deeply as you could and trying to remain calm.
Eventually, you felt the rocking of the ship abating more and more as the storm passed. You were glad you’d made it through the storm but you hadn’t felt this bad in your memory. You laid there, unable to move, unable to think, unable to do anything. Soon you heard the door open again and a water drenched brown coat entered your field of vision. Sabo’s face came in front of your own, his gloved hand cupping your cheek. You gave no resistance when he moved your head to the side, allowing him to do whatever he wanted. It made you dizzy to watch him, so you closed your eyes again. You were so tired and he’d do what he liked, whether you wanted it or not. Sabo left almost as soon as he came. Maybe he’d decided you were too difficult of a prisoner and he’d return you to the Marines. Or kill you. At this point, you didn’t care.
Sabo returned a few minutes later, bringing something with him. You opened your eyes to see him setting up an IV drip and tubing. You didn’t like needles and doctors, but were too weak to protest. “You’re too dehydrated to drink. You need intravenous fluids, now.” You tried to talk, maybe to convince him just to let you drink some water instead, but he hushed you. “You’ll feel much better after, trust me. You’re doing so well, you only need to do a little bit more. You can do that for me, can't you?” You weren’t sure how much trust you had in Sabo as a person, but he seemed to know his way around the tubing. You watched him drowsily, waiting for the time when he’d need to stick you with the needle. He reached for your hand with his own gloved one, and you allowed him to take it. “No need to worry, we’ll get through this,” he said, patting your hand. He tenderly wiped your elbow crook down with alcohol. Maybe it was because you’d worked for so many years in labs, but you found the smell of rubbing alcohol soothing. You closed your eyes as he prepared the needle, you didn’t want to see this part. A few moments later you felt the prick of the needle and opened your eyes to watch Sabo tape it down to your forearm. You could feel the liquid entering as Sabo gently held your arm and inspected his work.
“Thank you, Sabo.” You could at least thank him for the IV. You weren’t sure how many prisoners got such treatment at the hands of their captors. His eyes flicked to yours.
“I’m sorry I let it get to this point. I was needed on the deck because of the storm, otherwise I wouldn’t have left you. Rest assured, I’ll be with you from now until you get better.” You weren’t sure how that made you feel. On one hand you were happy there was someone who could help you. The times you’d been seasick on Marine vessels, they’d basically dumped you in the infirmary, where nurses checked on you only once every 12 hours. Other than that, you’d been miserable and on your own. On the other hand, you didn’t want Sabo with you. He’d taken you and you weren’t sure why. You didn't know where you stood with him and what he wanted from you. Maybe you’d find out soon, after a short nap. Your eyes slid closed as Sabo stroked your hand.
~~~
You awoke a short while later, shivering with cold. You weren’t sure why, the room wasn’t cold and you had blankets. Still, you were shaking like a little wet dog. You were still hooked up the IV, so you couldn’t move around too much otherwise it would need to be redone. Looking around, Sabo was sitting at the little desk, writing what looked like a letter. You watched him for a moment as he concentrated. He was serious at that moment, so different from the Sabo you’d met in the jail cell. You wondered which was the real Sabo, the polite and charming one you’d gotten to know, or the serious Revolutionary who killed, maimed, and commanded hundreds of troops. As if he could sense your thoughts about him, he looked at you and smiled, holding his quill in his hand.
“How are you feeling?”
“Cold,” you said in a scratchy voice. Sabo’s smile dropped. “More blankets?” you asked. You didn’t want to overexert your voice, you weren’t sure it would last.
“More blankets? I’m not sure, this boat isn’t equipped with much.” He put his quill down on the table and turned his body towards you. “I’m going to suggest something unconventional. You can say no, there is absolutely no pressure. You’ve been cold for hours, but I thought the fluids would help with your temperature regulation. I’d like to lay next to you and warm you up.” You stiffened at his words, you weren’t expecting that. His suggestion made you nervous, what else would he want? You were about to refuse when he continued. “We’ll both keep all our clothes on, and I’ll stay over the blanket. It’s the most efficient way to heat you.” You bit your lip. The offer had appeal, he could warm you effectively using his devil fruit power. Besides, if he had wanted to do something nefarious, he could have done it at any time already. You looked at his face, his open expression showing his sincerity.
“Ok,” you said, nodding once. Sabo stood from the chair and came over to you by the bed.
“I’m going to lay on your left side so it doesn’t interfere with the IV tubing.” You turned on your side and Sabo got on the bed next to you. True to his word, he didn’t take off any clothes or go under the blankets. You could feel the heat being thrown off his body, he was like a small furnace. You couldn’t resist, you immediately curled into his body. You felt emotionally awkward but it felt physically incredible. Laying next to Sabo was like laying next to an all body heating pad. You finally felt relief from the cold, you were so happy you could have cried. He took one of his muscled arms and put it around your shoulders. It was almost…romantic.
“Feel warmer?” he asked. You could have purred at that moment.
“Yeah,” was all you could muster to say. You changed position so more of you was laying on top of him. You wanted as much of his heat as you could get without being inappropriate. You ended up with your head on his chest, warming your face as you listened to his heartbeat. Sabo didn’t talk to you, just let you relax. You drifted off into sleep, finally feeling a little better.
Sabo POV
He hadn’t planned for such an outcome, but Sabo knew how to take an opportunity when it was presented to him. You really had needed to warm up and this was the fastest way. It was also something Sabo had daydreamed about for weeks now, but that was neither here nor there. You were resting with your head on his chest, finally sleeping peacefully. Not only that, you were wearing his shirt. Sabo knew he had a possessive streak in him, and he loved seeing you in his clothing. He hadn’t been the one to change you, that was Koala. Even so, he liked thinking of you wearing his clothes, in his bed, sleeping next to him. He was tired too, and he allowed himself to doze off, pretending this was more than just a medically induced happenstance.
~~~
The next morning, Sabo awoke still fully clothed and in his bed. You were stirring next to him, waking as well. He had given you another IV bag during the night, but supplies were running low. The sea was calm right now, Sabo hoped it would be enough to stop your seasickness. You blinked your eyes awake, taking a few moments to register what was happening. You looked down at your arm and saw the IV tubing still there. You yawned loudly and stretched, which made Sabo chuckle.
“I feel better.” You looked objectively better, your eyes no longer sunken in and your skin wasn’t blotchy like it had been. You hadn’t moved from your position, you were still laying your head on top of Sabo’s chest. He wondered if you noticed.
“I’m glad to hear it. We don’t have much longer to sail, this portion of the trip is nearly done.” The ship would arrive at the destination by the end of the next day, he just hoped you could make it through.
“Portion? Where are we going?” you said, furrowing your brow.
“I can’t tell you, I’m sorry.” Sabo didn’t think you’d try to escape or compromise their location, but the safety of the Revolutionary Army bases were top priority.
“You know, no one is coming to rescue me,” you said with a bitter tone. Sabo hummed. He wasn’t so sure. You were a key asset, someone who had been providing critical information to the World Government at a rapid pace. He knew about your scheduled meeting with Sakazuki, those weren’t given to just anyone. “I’m not worth any ransom or bounty, if that’s what you’re after.” You valued yourself very little, something Sabo didn’t like. He’d help you see how invaluable you were, and not just for your devil fruit.
“I’m not after money.”
“Then what are you after? Why did you…take me?” You seemed to have remembered your position laying on him and adjusted yourself, to Sabo’s disappointment. You sat yourself up and Sabo did as well. “Do you need a scientist? I can um, research whatever it is you need. I’m pretty good, you know that. We could make a deal? If I complete your project for you, will you let me go? ” Sabo noticed your hands shaking but you looked hopeful, like you’d discovered a new solution to your problem.
“No.”
“N-no?” you faltered in the face of Sabo’s decisive answer.
“No. There’s no deal you can make with me that will get me to give you back to the Marines. You aren’t going back. Ever. You’re staying with me.”

The Masterlist / The Playlist / The Tune:
End of June
You didn’t realize when Steve asked you to water his plants, that he meant in just three short days after the almost kiss in his kitchen. The opposite schedules the two of you seem to always work made it so you hardly got a glimpse of him before he and Bandit disappeared to Starved Rock for what you learned was their annual camping trip.
The Good Morning Tough Girl texts started the next day after your number exchange, waking you up with a kaleidoscope of butterflies twisting and turning in your stomach and a smile so big it made your cheeks hurt. It helped you get over only getting to physically see him one time through your living room window before he left. Your phone had vibrated at your feet while you watered your now flourishing Ivy thanks to the new curtains you were proud to say were installed by yourself. You chanced a glance down at your lit up screen, his name flashing with a text that said: How’d I never realize how pretty my view is from the front yard?
The corners of your mouth twitched, flames licking underneath your cheeks when your eyes caught his out your window. The big dopey smile that took over his face made you giggle as he waved eagerly, dressed nice like he had been the morning you ran into him last week. You wiggled your fingers, biting your bottom lip at the way his dark navy button up looked tucked into the waist of his black slacks. The leather belt looked nicer than the last one, the silver of the buckle blinding in the setting sun. His hair was freshly done, free of any signs of those big hands of his. The stubble on his jaw was gone again, but you learned that was never for very long.
Another buzz: Going to dinner with a client, wish it was fish tacos with you instead.
Steve feels like he won the lottery when he can see the way your face lights up from his spot in his front yard. Eddie’s voice rings loudly inside his head, sticking to every single one of his negative thoughts like glue telling him it’s okay and he finally starts to believe it, especially when he gets a text back from you.
Maybe next time 😉
It’s thunderstorming the day you go over, the key tucked away in a lockbox by his door. He gave you access by texting the code the night before with a promise to take you to dinner as a thank you when he got back. The nerves that dance inside you feel like they did the first time you came here when you stand in front of the stained glass of his front door even though he’s five hours away.
It’s quiet, the lively energy from a few nights ago gone with the man. The cedar of his candle still lingers thick in the air and you can’t help but inhale deeply. It smells like him. You leave your shoes and umbrella on his front porch, closing the door gently like you were scared to wake someone up. The pattering of the rain on his windows fills the silence, your shoulders dropping in the serenity. Pulling your phone from your back pocket you look through your texts with the list of the rooms the plants were in.
Only three — his office and living room on the first floor and his bedroom on the second.
The coffee white oak floors creak under your socked feet as you take your first apprehensive steps past the entryway. He left the watering can on the kitchen island just like he said he would, your skin pebbles when you’re brought back to the last time you were in here. The sun fights to shine through the thick storm clouds outside, making the lighting that bleeds through his windows soften everything up. The water from the sink hits the metal of the can, mixing perfectly with the rain.
You wish he was here.
The can is heavy in your hands when you stop at the doorway of the living room, the contents inside sloshing around and daring to spill onto his floor. You curse under your breath with a pause to take in the room you only got a glimpse of before. There’s an electric fireplace, tall black steel that takes up most of the wall next to the sliding glass door that leads to his small backyard.
Two large beige area rugs cover most of the wood floors in here, a cream frayed trim lining them. Bandit’s bed sits big, fluffy and dark brown nestled by the fireplace, giving him a perfect view out the window. Strands of his lighter hairs leave behind evidence that this might be his favorite spot in the house. A woven basket filled with various chew toys that look freshly tossed in isn’t very far from it. The rain comes down harder but you can still see the spots of lime green littering the grass where the rambunctious German shepherd left his tennis balls. Spoiled.
The cognac color of his leather couch set is rich, and it shines even in the dim lighting like it was freshly lotioned. It looks like the kind of comfortable where the cushions mold against the weight of your body - soft, inviting, the one in the middle looking a little more worn in than the rest. This must be Steve’s favorite spot.
Your eyes meet the 65” TV mounted to the wall in front of it and realize why. The coffee table matches the dark color of the floors. The candle that was the culprit for the smell of his house sitting in the middle next to three remotes lined perfectly next to each other.
There’s a long, taller companion table that sits at the other doorway that leads back out to the landing of his staircase. Framed pictures, bottles of various liquors of all shades and crystal cocktail glasses cover the top of it.
What does he think of your place?
You try to push the intrusive thought down as you make your way to the lush Monstera plant that sits in a white pot on top of wooden legs next to the sliding glass door. Its leaves hang heavy, clearly taken care of. The deep emerald of it reminds you of what Steve’s eyes look like sometimes. The soil takes what you give it greedily, barely leaving enough for the few smaller plants that rest on shadow shelves along his gray walls. A few of them make you stand on your tiptoes to reach.
Curiosity wins on your way to refill the can, crossing the room to look at the framed pictures. You aren’t surprised when you see one of Eddie and Bandit as a puppy, it looks like the first day they brought him home. Eddie’s dimples show in a bright smile as he looks at the camera with Bandit’s big bubble gum pink tongue pressed sloppily against a clean shaven cheek.
The other is of Steve and a curly haired boy at a college graduation, they both look like they were caught in the middle of laughing at something. You can’t help your own smile when you look at it. Steve looks a little younger, a little less gray in his hair like it had only just started. He’s wearing wire rim glasses, and that crisp white dress shirt you like him in so much. He looks happy.
The last one is of Steve and Bandit. A selfie taken at sunrise, Bandits tongue sticks out and you swear he’s smiling just like his handsome owner that has him pulled against his side. A part of a tent peaks over his shoulder and you wonder if this is where they’re at right now.
You’re hit with the smell of his cologne when you open his office door, your thighs pressing together when you imagine him sitting in the big black leather chair behind an even bigger, matching colored desk. Glass cased baseball memorabilia takes space on one of his walls, along with plaques of achievements from his job. There’s framed pictures of him shaking hands of baseball players you couldn’t name, but you’re sure a normal person who liked sports could. There’s a tall bookshelf on the other side of the room. The spines all glossed, bright bold wording of sports memoir’s, marketing guides, and what looks like college course advertising books.
The floor of this room is carpeted with the same color as the area rugs in his living room. Your footsteps are a little more careful as you try not to spill any water on it as you make your way to the three hanging spider plants in the window that overlooks his front yard.
Your nose catches a hint of the cigars you know he smokes as you get closer to his desk. He must keep them in here. A silver closed MacBook sits on top of it, another baseball — only this one is signed and kept safe in a glass case. There's a Polaroid of Bandit with a cubs hat on his head with a laughing Peach barely visible behind him. The obvious closeness of the three of them makes you realize how much he let you into his world the other night.
A world where he wanted to kiss you.
You curse under your breath when you almost spill water on the carpet, too lost in realization of what this could be.
When you reach your final destination on the second floor, you stop at his closed door. Your hand hovers over the knob, heart hammering so hard in your chest like he was waiting for you on the other side. Taking a deep breath through your nose, you exhale through your lips - willing your nerves to give you mercy. There’s a soft click when you turn the knob and the quietest noise from the hinges when you push it open.
The crisp white of his fluffy duvet that covers his king size bed, mutes the gray of his walls. The olive green throw at the end of it that matches the area rug under the bed, the warmth of the color relaxes your senses. Your breathing evens out, your heart rate slows down.
There’s another dog bed at the foot of his that matches the one downstairs and you wonder how often Bandit really sleeps in this one at night. The lack of hair on it compared to the other one tells you not very often. Your cheeks tingle fiercely when you see the mirror you got a glimpse of his bare chest through, your eyes quickly finding the bathroom he had come out of.
“Jesus Christ,” you grumble to yourself, trying to push back the memory while standing alone in his bedroom.
There’s another Monstera by his window that you can see your bedroom out of. The last one on the list. You have to pass by another large dresser on your way, even more pictures sit on top of it, taking up the space that was left next to a cherry wood watch box. Another cedar candle sits behind the framed pictures, the scent lingering in the air despite not being lit.
The plants take what’s left in the watering can, and you peek out the window just to see what he sees. The navy curtains you’d hung up are half open giving you a perfect glimpse into your room, the pile of dirty laundry you plan to do after this perfectly visible. You gulp audibly.
The can swings loosely in your hand when you walk to the dresser, a smirk already forming on your lips at the thought of what these ones will tell you about him. Your eyes land on one of him in between Eddie and Peach on what seems to be their wedding day, both of them placing sloppy kisses on either cheek. The big dopey grin face doesn’t hide the tear stains. The White Chapel sign behind them tells you it’s Vegas, and the way Steve is dressed as a much sexier Elvis only confirms your suspicions.
Next to that one is a picture of Steve, only he looks really young- fresh out of high school young. Biting your lip into a smile at the volume of his hair, he’s leaning against a maroon BMW with pants so tight you're sure they made all the girls flustered. You shake your head with a roll of your eyes before taking in the brown curly haired girl sticking her head out of the back seat window. Another girl with honey waves pushing her head out in the small space next to her, you swear you can hear the giggles that are so evident on their faces.
Thunder cracks loudly outside, bringing you back with a jump. You’re dreading the short walk home. You glance out the window wearily before bringing your attention back to the little bit of Steve scattered over the top of his dresser. Then you see it. You see her.
The frame that holds the picture is silver, the words ‘always and forever’ etched across the bottom. It’s taken somewhere tropical and Steve looks like he’s your age in it, his jaw somehow sharper, his hair blonder. His smile is so big it shows all of his teeth, a bright yellow short sleeve button up that makes his skin look golden. The top two buttons undone revealing the chest hair you’d gotten a few glimpses of. He’s glowing.
She’s just as beautiful, big bright green eyes and dark chestnut hair that falls in effortless curls down to her chest. They look natural, like she didn’t have to do it herself. She’s tucked into his side in what looks like seats in the back of a boat, the coral dress that flows over the curves of her body makes your stomach turn. The big rock on her hand rested purposefully on his chest tells you exactly what this picture is.
Jealousy twists green in a tight knot inside of you, guilt you weren’t expecting makes you feel nauseous when you see what’s hanging off the corner of the frame. A dark teal rubber bracelet with the words Team ALS Chicago 2022 in white font.
Lightning flashes white hot, making something gleam and catch in the corner of your eye from his watch box. Taking a closer look, the tightening of your chest at what you find makes the air leave your lungs all at once when you see their wedding rings tucked in between the soft white cushions inside the box.
The reality of the situation hits you like a ton of bricks. Steve had a whole life before he met you. A life with someone beautiful, someone he didn’t fall out of love with, someone who didn’t break his heart, someone who, if things were different he’d still be with.
If you moved next door in that reality, you’d just be someone he’d maybe wave to from time to time, not paying any mind to the thirty year old girl already suffering through a midlife crisis next door. The girl who moved to the city with no friends and no plan. The college drop out. The opposite of the well put together woman that belonged hanging off his chest like that, with a ring on her finger that could pay off your credit card debt and then some.
How can you compete with a ghost? The nagging feeling that you’ll always be second best already stings and he hasn’t even picked you yet.
You try to blink away the tears that threaten to spill out, feeling stupid for being this upset over what started off as a silly crush, it really shouldn’t hurt this much. The cedar that comforted you feels like it's suffocating now. Like he’s here. The thought of bringing the watering can down doesn’t even cross your mind when you leave it on the dresser to make your escape.
The breath that comes out through trembling lips is shaky, still, you're proud of the fact that you haven’t cried yet.
Tough girl.
When you open the front door, it's windier than when you first got here, the sun starting its disappearing act for the moon. It makes the summer storm match the one brewing inside of you. You shove your feet into your shoes before pulling the door shut behind you. You lock the key back into the box, before grabbing your umbrella. Your vision goes blurry but you don’t give into it, telling yourself it’s stupid to be so upset. The buzz of your phone in your back pocket is what stops you from taking the first step off his porch.
Steve
Found a spot with some service on our hike, just wanted to check in. Hope you got into the house okay. Bandit says he misses you.
The dam that you’d worked so hard to build breaks, tears falling down your face like the rain falling from the sky. You sniffle, wiping your cheeks with the back of your hand before you reply to him for what you tell yourself is the last time. It’ll hurt less like this, it’s better for both of you this way. At least that’s what you try to tell yourself before you hit send.
Plants are watered 👍

GET MINE, GET YOURS
— your ex-boyfriend is a mechanic, and you still jump his bones on occasion ❤️🔥

——
2004
Heavy raindrops cascade off the roof of the mechanic shop, its metal shingles mottled with splotches of orange rust. The sight forms tight knots in your stomach as dreary storm clouds loom over the town. You stall outside for another minute, soaked pebbles crunching under the soles of your shoes as you pace near your car.
After exhaling a quelling breath and rolling your shoulders back, you slowly walk toward the half-closed garage. Harry is running the shop all by himself this afternoon, working gruesome nine-to-fives just about every day of the week. You don't know how he does it, so you try to visit and keep him company once in a while.
Today, however, is different. The brakes on your car have been squeaking incessantly, and you know jack squat about anything car-related, so you had no choice but to ask your ex-boyfriend for help.
Yes, your ex-boyfriend.
You would honestly rather listen to him drone on about all the intricate parts of an automobile than some wise guy who makes you feel stupid when you confusedly nod along and attempt to ask clarifying questions. Harry is much nicer about it. He simplifies terms for you while your mind drifts away to things much more interesting than the anatomy of axels and tires. For example, Harry's pink lips or the beautiful veins protruding from the backs of his hands.
You've gone to him with car problems before, but you mostly visit to hang out with him. It's never awkward since the breakup was mutual, and you are still on good terms. Plus, you find contentment in the routine of bringing him fast food and talking his ear off while he does the strenuous work.
And so what if you still fuck him on the down-low?
There's nothing wrong with having no strings attached, especially since he gives you heavenly sexual experiences each and every time. It's not like it's a weekly thing, either. It's just that whenever you cross paths with him, it always ends up with his body hovering over yours and his cross necklace dangling above your bare chest.
Unfortunately, you're not in the mood for that right now. The stress caused by your shitty car and having to probably pay a hefty amount of cash just to be able to safely drive anywhere has quickly turned your day sour.
As you duck your head to enter the garage, the smell of rubber and oil instantly permeates your senses. The plug-in air freshener on the wall is doing the absolute bare minimum. Soft bass creeps into your eardrums, and a groovy R&B track plays from Harry's boombox sitting beside his reliable red toolbox. You grin and roll your eyes when you recognize the eminent growl of Christina Aguilera coming through the speakers. You're greeted with a song you'd never expect him to listen to whenever you visit.
Turning your head to the left, you spot Harry working under a beat-up vintage Cadillac. He's lying down on a roller with his knees bent, metal clinking from whatever he's fixing. The black skinny jeans he's wearing are faded, and he's not wearing any shoes for some risky reason; only white socks cover his feet.
"Hi, baby." Harry's voice rumbles, jolting you. You've told him to stop calling you that, but it falls on deaf ears every time.
"How'd you know it was me?" you ask, running your fingertips across a stray wrench.
He laughs huskily. "I can see your dirty ass sneakers from under here."
Before you can defend your mud-stained shoes, his hands grip the bottom edge of the car as he rolls himself out from underneath, revealing his face decorated with smears of grease and his long hair tied into a bun. It's been two weeks since you saw him last, give or take, and you swear he gets more physically buff each time. His biceps are practically bulging as he wipes beading sweat from his forehead, the sheened muscles filling out his grubby uniform deliciously.
You break away from your lustful trance and nod your head toward his boombox. "Stripped on cassette, huh? You keep on surprising me."
"Is there a problem?" He slings a soiled rag over his shoulder.
"No, not at all," you reply lightheartedly. "It just isn't really a manly record to fix cars to."
He teasingly sticks his tongue out and saunters over to you, bending down a bit before wrapping one arm around your waist and lifting you in a firm embrace. His mouth breathes warm air against your neck, and you can smell the spearmint gum he's been chewing.
"Came to visit me?" he murmurs as he gently sets you down, keeping a firm grip on your hip and hooking his middle finger through your belt loop.
You pout and tell him, "My car is broken."
He mimics your expression. "Yeah? What happened?"
"I was driving home from the grocery store, and the brakes started squeaking out of nowhere."
Harry stops smacking his gum and furrows his eyebrows. "And you drove all the way here without calling me?"
You grimace. "Please don't be mad."
"You're not supposed to keep driving when your brakes are acting up," he says seriously. "You know better."
"I didn't want to make you leave work," you reply, fidgeting with your hands.
He softly tuts while flinging the rag somewhere behind him. "I would've come and gotten you if you had asked."
You just shrug helplessly and look around the garage, admiring Harry's workspace, which completely encapsulates his personality, even though he shares the space with a coworker most days. Various cassettes are stacked haphazardly on a shelf, ranging from girl groups to classic rock to spa music for meditation purposes. He has an opened bag of organic potato chips on his workbench, the brand he always buys from the gas station just down the road. There's also a shallow pottery bowl in the corner where he puts his rings so they don't touch oil.
He's a moody motherfucker, but you know all of his soft spots.
"I'm guessing I'll be spending the entirety of my last paycheck on the repair," you mutter while wandering around, picking up random tools.
Harry leans back against the car he's working on and crosses his arms. "It'll probably cost around two hundred dollars to replace the brake pad," he says.
"What the hell?" you say incredulously. "You need to talk to your boss about lowering the prices around here."
"I am the boss."
"Oh, that's right."
He laughs through his nose. "Negotiate with me about it, then. Convince me to lower the price."
You stop in your tracks and stare at him, unimpressed with the upper hand he tries to have over you. "Nope. I'm not doing that."
"Why not?" he asks. "C'mon, I'm bored out of my mind."
You groan and stride over to stand in front of him. He's so hard to resist. "Fine. Will you please give me a discount?"
Harry drags out a monotonous hum before plainly saying, "No."
Standing on your tiptoes, you touch your nose to his and whisper, "Pretty please?"
He narrows his eyes, his eyelashes fluttering against yours. "You're getting warmer."
"I'll help you fix my car," you plead, willing to do anything to save a little money. "I'm really good at following instructions."
"You are, sweetheart, but absolutely not."
You frown and bury your face in his neck. He's sweaty, yet there's a hint of some pine-scented cologne coming through that drives you insane. "If I let you fuck me," you suggest boldly, leaving a slow kiss near his pulse point, "will you give me a discount?"
Harry moves his head to look at you straight on, smiling smugly and using his teeth to stretch his gum across the tip of his tongue. "That's more like it."
"But don't you have a car to fix right now?" you ask, feigning innocence to get under his skin.
"Baby," he murmurs, "you can't come here and expect me to actually get work done. You're too distracting."
You pinch his thigh through his jeans. "Stop calling me that."
"No," he says softly. "You're still my baby."
"Not anymore."
"Then no discount for you."
You scoff and step away from him. "Stop being a jerk, Harry."
"Letting me fuck you just for a discount, hmm? Is that it?" He raises his eyebrows.
"You know I'd let you fuck me anyway," you admit under your breath.
The muscles in his jaw twitch. "God, you give me whiplash."
You get up in his face and say, "Yeah, well, you give me a headache."
His hand quickly reaches out to push the back of your head toward him, messily smearing his lips against yours. "I hate when you're like this," he mumbles into your mouth. "My baby's so stubborn when she doesn't get her way, isn't she?"
You bite his bottom lip and tug on it before releasing it. "Don't want to be your baby."
His hand gravitates toward the curve of your ass, squeezing just once. "Then tell me what you want."
"I want to be your brat."
Harry's head tilts as he visibly swallows. "Get on the couch," he orders lowly. "Face down, ass up."
You grin, pleased to the max, and stroll over to the black leather couch in the back while Harry shuts the garage door for privacy. The screech of the lock makes you wince, and the sound of the pelting rain becomes muffled. The continuous drops on the roof match the speed of your racing heart.
Placing your forearms on the cold, cracked leather, you bend your knees to get into position and tilt your head so your cheek rests on the cushion. Harry swiftly removes his hairband, his curls messily falling past his shoulders. Next, he unbuttons his shirt, revealing his swallow tattoos and chest hair, both slick with sweat. His cross pendant rests perfectly against his skin as he comes up beside you and leisurely trails his fingers down your spine until they reach the waistband of your low-rise bell bottoms.
Goosebumps erupt across your arms when his other hand goes to unbutton his skinny jeans. You can see his bulge strain against the tight material, and it makes you squirm impatiently.
"Sit still," Harry says, pulling down his jeans. His black boxers and thigh tattoo are now directly in front of you.
You pitifully moan when he crouches and grabs your wrists to place them behind your back. "Not fair," you grumble.
"Oh, really? It's not fair that I'm about to fuck you."
"You know what I mean."
Harry tugs down your pants and underwear in one go, the material bunching at the back of your knees. He then takes his boxers off, placing one knee on the cushion and lining himself up as he grips the top of the couch to stay balanced.
"Still on birth control?" he asks, planting a quick kiss on your shoulder blade. The cold metal of his necklace against your skin sends an avalanche of chills down the length of your spine.
You nod, and Harry immediately thrusts into you. You gasp as the burning sensation spreads like wildfire all the way to your thighs, your hands clenching into tight fists as he continuously rocks deep strokes in and out. You whimper with each one, and Harry's hand holds your hair back in a makeshift ponytail to watch every pleasurable change of expression on your face.
"You good?" He pants while slowing down his thrusts, keeping them long and purposeful.
"I want to touch you."
His hips pound into your backside. "Yeah? Where do you want to touch me?"
"Anywhere, just please let me."
"I didn't know brats begged like whores," he says, tugging your hair.
You wiggle your fingers behind your back, trying to touch his stomach, but it's to no avail. Harry stops thrusting, his hair hanging over his face as he looks down at you. "Want it that bad?" he says in awe.
You muster up fake tears and nod pathetically to get your way. "Please, daddy."
It always works like a charm. Harry grunts and instantly pulls out, hastily sitting on the couch with his legs spread and grabbing your waist to make you straddle him.
You kick off your pants and underwear the rest of the way, along with your shoes, then sink down on his cock, slowly grinding on him with your hands in his hair. You want to touch him everywhere, so you rub your palms down his chest and then hold both of his hands as you arch your back and tilt your head up toward the ceiling rafters. The new position tightens your orgasm more quickly, and the way Harry is desperately moaning with his hands clutching your thighs causes heat to prickle all over your body.
"Such a pretty brat for me, right?" Harry praises you, kissing along your jaw and down your neck. "Getting your way like you always do."
"Mm-hmm," you hum, every grind making your stomach rub against his, all sweat and smooth skin. "Only for you."
He nips love bites along your collarbone. "It fuckin' better be. I don't want you doing this with anyone else."
"And what if I do?" you ask, the slickness of your arousal sticking to the inside of your thighs.
Harry opens his mouth with a scoffed moan when you circle your hips. "Th-think I'd die from jealousy."
The fact that you got him to stutter makes you grind faster until his jaw is clenched and he's clawing scratches on your back. "What's there to be jealous about?"
"That they get to stuff this tight pussy, and I don't." His eyes roll back as he starts to stimulate your clit with his thumb.
Not only is he a moody motherfucker, but he's a filthy one too.
"You're doing it right now, though," you say, and Harry nods briskly. "Consider yourself lucky."
"But I want to be the only one."
"I know." You suddenly choke out a moan when your orgasm approaches. "I'm gonna come, Harry. Oh, God..."
"Me too," he says, his chest heaving. "Give me a good one, baby."
You hold onto his shoulders and tense your thighs while you release, Harry stilling as well as his hips jerk to meet yours. You feel him fill you up, and after he runs himself dry, you fall against his body from exhaustion, whining into his neck as the pleasure consumes you. His arms wrap around your waist, bringing you in for a lazy hug while his cock slowly softens inside you.
The rain pours outside, and the ambiance calms you down while your body relaxes. It reminds you of a time when things were easier, a time without complicated feelings or unresolved issues.
Harry abruptly begins giggling, his chest raising with each breathy laugh. You join in, but you don't necessarily understand what's so funny. You lift your head to see deep dimples carved into his cheeks and the devastatingly gorgeous crinkles near his eyes.
Once his laughter dies down, he says, "We just orgasmed at the same time to "Beautiful" by Xtina."
"No way," you reply, breaking into more giggles.
Harry starts cackling as the dramatic piano ballad plays from the boombox, possibly the worst song to listen to while having sex. It's so ridiculous that tears form in your eyes and your sides start hurting from laughing so hard.
"We also just fucked with our socks on," Harry adds, resting his covered feet on the couch and wiggling his toes.
"Sexy."
"Super sexy. And quite comfortable."
You smile and glance at his lips, feeling an intense urge to kiss them, but you know you shouldn't. As soft as they look, it would only make things more complicated. Well, besides the fact that you still have sex with him. You're okay with the equal exchange of satisfaction, even though the emotional boundaries seem to blur more and more each time.
"You can kiss me," Harry whispers.
You swallow and shake your head, playing with the ends of his curls. "That's not what we do anymore. I get mine, and you get yours, remember? That's it."
"You let me kiss you earlier," he points out.
"That was a different kind of kiss."
He just makes a disappointed face and lifts your hips so he can pull out. He then stands still, holding you with one arm, and you wrap your legs around his waist as he walks over to the boombox.
"What should we listen to next?" he asks in your ear, delicately pressing a button to remove the black and white cassette.
You tilt your head sideways and read the names on the stack of cassettes. "Hmm... how about Time and Form: Celestial Meditation? Sounds like the perfect soundtrack for aftercare."
Harry snorts. "Shut up."
You laugh and dig your heels into his lower back, wanting to be even closer to his bare skin. The full-fledged urge to kiss him returns again, this time with a bizarre wave of sadness.
You can't. He's your ex.
It would cross the line that was never really there in the first place, but it's a faint one, and it still matters. To you, to him, and to the stakes of what you are to each other. Yet you spend days and nights lying in bed, wondering if he'll call you on the old wall phone at the shop and ask you to come over just because. Or when he tells you he missed you when you do show up, hugging you tight and thanking you for lunch. Or when he's glum and sulky to everyone else but you, his face immediately lights up when you step into the room.
It all means something, but you'll never allow it to become more than that. Just fleeting moments make up for the emptiness you felt when you stopped being romantically involved with him. It quells the ache, but only in real-time. Afterward, you go home to the apartment you live in by yourself, wishing he could follow you there and stay with you like he used to.
You didn't cry when you broke up with him because you knew there would still be some sort of relationship present, even though it wouldn't involve dating. That's when you both agreed to keep having sex without the strings attached; however, the buried feelings you have always seem to burst into uncontrollable flames when he touches you. You'll never admit it, though, because a purely physical relationship with him is better than not having one at all.
It'd be a shame to lose the fire where the smoke is.

Billy who can still perform the same amount of magic as Captain Marvel when he’s his kid self, but due to the limits of his mortal body, he would literally burn up from the inside if he does too much or doesn’t allow himself to cool off first.
For a long while, he didn’t even notice. To be fair, it’s not like the wizard had time to give him the whole run-down before dying, and he never mentioned anything about performing magic outside of the Champion’s form. But sometimes, weird stuff would just happen out of nowhere?
He’ll only perform magic unintentionally when he’s extremely emotional. Not for everything, like “Man, I wish I could fix the holes in my socks.” But if he’s had a super bad day, and he just needs a good cry, he sees his hole-ridden socks and thinks, “Goddamnit, why can’t I just have nicer socks?” suddenly, they’re good as new! But he also feels the urge to lie down for a nap.
Some cops are sniffing around his neighborhood, and Billy is praying that he’ll be left alone. He doesn’t want to get kicked out of another semi-safe refuge. But right when the cops are about to discover his hideout, they’re called back to their precinct. Without warning, Billy’s chest feels hot. He suffers dizziness spells for a few hours and needs to wait a day before he’s back on his feet.
The real tipping point, however, is when he walks to school and it starts pouring with rain. He’s already had a rough morning so he just curses and ducks into the next bus stop. But before he can take cover, it’s sunny again, and out of nowhere, he’s running a dangerously high fever. He almost collapses in exhaustion. His hair is literally smoking, and that’s when he realizes what’s going on.
Now, Billy needs to be extremely careful with his emotional state. If he even thinks of something he wishes could happen, he might die. That’s why he can’t use too much magic, and it’s also why he talks to himself out loud so much. It’s easier to catch himself if he’s constantly reciting his inner monologue.
Later on, he gets some help with regulating his magic. Maybe John Constantine comes in and goes, “Okay buddy, we need to get you some breathing exercises,” because he’s in genuine mortal danger if he does. Maybe Billy tests his luck a few too many times and has to go MIA for a week because if he turns into Cap one more time, he'll burst into flames the moment he turns back.
But idk I am just so fascinated by the idea that this preteen who is literally the Champion of Magic harnesses the ability to level mountains while knowing nothing about magic because he has no real mentor, but he’s holding the potential to cause an avalanche if he sneezes the wrong way at the risk of his own life and he doesn’t have a clue.

thought to myself u know what. i havent watched falsettos enough. so here's a couple things i noticed in my latest impromptu rewatch (rewatch number 52th probably?? 67th?) + just some nice bits n parallel that are always Good (tm):
"he loves another" "i agree" with ("-man") going unsaid
the chess games following trina's song about stupid men and their little games
"that's the king. please protect him" That's marvin saying "please protect me. don't hurt me"
whizzer moves the pieces randomly in the revival but i like to imagine he's actually beating marvin at the game in the end... and the whole thing was him pretending to not know how to play, and that hurt marvin's ego more than anything
"now marvin, bend" as a sexy moment but later gets re-framed as a "unwillingness to change perspective" moment
"nothing is everything to me / except sex / and money" in that money whizzer is playing to marvin's insecurity that he's only sticking with marvin for his money- is so needlessly cruel (and thus such... delicious character writing lol)
"and he loves me so" that "so" at the end is sort of a "loves me so much" but also a dare. he loves me, so what can you even do about that?"
"ask me if i love him, it depends on the day"// "do i love him?… no"
"son with a brain, and nice bright mother" showing mendel is like marvin (+ many, many men) and wants a wife half just to do domestic labor for him (goes well with the "washing your laundry, washing your socks!" line)
"he loves his father" // "i love things i never had"
"im everything he wanted" here trina finally realizes how she was such a insecure woman for such a long time and why she could put up with so much / settle for so little ("love me for what i am, not what i try to be" etc)
i love that "what ive done to you is rotten" is the slap to trina, is not taking to jason about his sexuality, and is Also telling trina and jason he "never ever, wanted to love" them. triple treat of bad parenting lol (but our man gets there in the end #bless him)
"a man kid, you'll be kid, whatever your song" the kind of reversed coming out metaphor of it all. ugh. so good!! (also i always cry at this bit bc... i will never have this with my parents :) rip haha whoops)
"pretty boys are in demand" just a good line for the whole gay men dying everywhere + the 'dating frenzy' energy of the era
"im not a giant man" /"good" // "one day i hope to be / as mature as my son who is 12 and a half / and this tall… that's all i want to be, that's all"
"we'll spent BILLIONS of dollars" and then the actual thing plays the way it does
"making the most pathetical errors" as a metaphor for marvin's arc…. making constant errors in love but making a homerun at the end
"should i take this new promotion OR should i take this IBM job?" is an amazing, anti-corporate lyric that fits greatly w/ the most explicitly political (likely authorial) song in the musical that, imho, shouldn't have been cut in the revival. in hindsight tho i imagine the revival people felt very proud and """progressive""" when they made that cut lol is very much a typical liberal move: "cant have true emancipation or revolutions but u cant have some \~upward mobility in the job market xoxo". also on the same vein, cutting the line "i'll change my life, and hire a maid" from the og "and fire the maid" like it's this huge feminist moment lol ughhhh hh
(other line-cuts that frustrate me… "it's queer, mr. marvin", "i could use a little drink" and "i just bought a family" . i feel w/ all of these they tooks some "edge" of the OG characters and kind of attempted to make them "nicer". but it really just makes them a little flatter, a little less real) ( and also some scenes just plain make less sense (marvin's drink line leading to his outburst)
(but bc it's not All Bad sdklfj in fairness, i belie the whole "why don't we tell him, that we don't have the awnsers? (…) this is the start to his becoming a man" bit - is SUCH a great part for mendel, it goes so hard and from what i remember is not in the original falsettos? correct me if im wrong but if it was a new addition in the revival, imo it's a huge improvement to the scene flow… and dare i say, brings the whole climax together, and spells out The Aesop for people who hadn't gotten it by the end of Act 2) -"let me go, im not ashamed to have loved you" // "what's the matter trina, darling, why cant you let go?" -"feel all right for the rest of your life" The Message of the play implicit in it.. "even if it's cut short"
"you save lives, and i serve chicken fat / i can't fucking deal wit hthat" / "maybe is not dumb the way this whole thing ends / the food tastes really yummy!"
"it's about growing up, getting older, living on a lover's shoulder" /"but i confess, you grow up, you get old, you hate less"
"the ground shifting, the rules keeps changing" and it's when the set changes for the first time!!! (/eats all my walls)
"isn't it enough i love you every night?" "who?" // "we had trouble parking, just like on our second date" "i hyperventilate"
"good men never fail" // "but i can't help but feeling i've failed " proving once again those machista lessons marvin learned when young were wrong.... it's clear that him showing weakness at that moment to whizzer was The Right Thing To Do. and what the moment called for.
"the last little mountain ill climb" sound of music ref? maybe?
i only wanted to love and not be blamed " // "who would i blame my life on?"

Carol, I always have horny thots. Tonight and every night <3 But tonight especially I am thinking about Eddie Munson making you watch him stroke his cock. You aren't allowed to touch him and you certainly cannot touch yourself. But you have to watch him get off. And hear all the absolutely disgusting things he has to say about it.
K byeeeeeeeee
It’s honestly his favorite way to play, assuming we’re dealing with a much more confident and mean Eddie Munson. Post Corroded Show at a slightly nicer bar, really feeling himself. But you’re kind of on his shit list right now ‘cause you got into a couple fights about how he acts when he plays a gig.
‘You’re always actin’ single when you have that stupid guitar around your neck.’
And neither of you have really ‘declared’ anything, he wasn’t calling you girlfriend and you weren’t calling him boyfriend. But there was something about the way his jaw ticked if a guy looked at you for too long. Something about the way you seethed when he smiled at a girl across the bar.
He gets home, a little boozed up, and he knows you’ll be there waiting up for him — already regretting giving you a key to his place. Cause you’re not his girlfriend and he’s not your boyfriend, even though he’s got a key to your place, too.
“Hey you,” he says casually, tossing his jacket on the couch before stomping over to his room.
“‘Hey you?’” you repeat, your socked feet padding down the hall to follow him, arms crossed right over your chest in an oversized Camp Hawkins tee, “You said you’d be back at midnight, it’s 2:30 in the morning.”
He smirks, looking at his watch, “So it is.”
“Well, what the fuck, Ed?” you whisper yell, “Too caught up with the bitches at the bar to call?”
He groans with an eye roll, “You do this shit every time. There’s no ‘other bitches’, babe.”
“Then why were you out so late?” you ask, watching him undress. Your eyes round while they slide over his sweaty chest, tattoos glistening. Swallowing when he reached for his belt.
“Someone upset I kept her waiting up all night to get fucked?” he teases, slowing down his movements while he undoes the clasp. The clink of the metal makes you shiver, the way his eyes liner on you makes your squirm, “Did you want me to come home and fuck you, sweetheart?”
“I — ugh, yeah,” you huff, recrossing your arms so your breasts rested on the shelf you created. He knows your game, but he’s gonna play his own.
“Get on your knees, baby,” he demands, but it’s light hearted. A whisper of a command. You kneel immediately.
“Hands under your shins,” he continues, peeling his jeans down of his legs. He’s left only in a pair of boxer briefs and his jewelry, the soft light from his side table illuminating him like stark marble. He takes a seat at the end of the bed in front of you, legs spread wide while he reaches into his underwear, “Other bitches? Look how hard you got me just by gettin’ on your knees.”
You reach up, but he slaps your hand away with a snap, “No, you don’t get to touch. You know why?”
“No,” you whine, tucking your hand back under your shin.
“‘Cause you’re such a greedy girl,” he spits, hand squeezing the base of his leaking cock while his thumb trails slowly up the shaft, “Always thinkin’ you’re gonna get my dick when I walk in the door.”
“Say you want it,” he asks, eyes narrowing down his nose at you. His hand slides up in firm stroke that makes his brows pinch, groaning, “S-say you want this dick, baby.”
“I want it,” you breathe out, voice raising a few octaves while you squeeze your thighs together for friction.
He grins evilly, pace picking up a bit on his cock, “You wanna touch that pretty pussy, huh?”
“Please, Ed, please let me,” you beg, digging your nails into the skin of your shins to keep yourself from gliding your hands between your legs.
“No, princess. Can’t touch what isn’t yours,” his mischievous glare dances over you, watching you start to squirm, your face getting hot. He swore you might even be drooling a little, and he’d be right.
“And now I gotta — shit, fuck — sit here with my dick in my hand and think about how good you feel when I fuck you,” he rasps out, head tilting back to stretch out the thick column of his pale neck, “‘C-cause y’can’t — mmm, shit — fuckin’ behave.”
“You know what I’m thinkin’ about princess?” he asks, eyes fluttering closed, thighs tensing.
“Wh-what’re you thinkin’ about?” you respond, watching him slow his strokes over his cock, slowly teasing the tip with his thumb.
“Remember the other night at Steve’s when you were gettin’ real cozy with one of those nobodies?” he opens his eyes, posture stiffening while he lifts his head up to look down at you, other hand reaching to cup his balls. You nod, you remember, you flirted with that guy on purpose.
“All I could think about was bendin’ you over Steve’s couch an’ — mmm, god FUCK — fuckin’ you in fr-front of ‘im. ‘Cause you’re — oh, shitshitshit — you’re my — ah, oh god — my fuckin’ — my fuckin’ girl.” His speed picks up, eyes narrowing at you again while sweat builds on his forehead,
“You’re my fuckin’ slut, d’y’understand me?” he raises his voice and you pray to God you don’t cum from the sentence alone, “And that’s my fucking pussy.”
“S’yours — I’m yours,” you pant back breathily while he starts to thrust hard into his fist.
“Shit, you feel so good, baby,” he whines to himself, eyes closing to continue imaging you beneath him, ass bouncing back against him, “Oh, oh m’gonna fuckin’ cum. Oh, shit!”
You barely register what’s happening until your feel it — ropes of his cum spurting over you, landing hot on your face. He doesn’t stop, standing and angling himself to make sure it lands all over you. Satisfied when your face and hair is dripping with his spend. You shut your eyes tight but feel his ragged breaths while he comes down. It’s quiet for a moment before you feel him toss a towel at you.
“Clean yourself up and then get back in here,” he says gruffly, “Gotta fuckin’ use you after that.”

like silence but not really silent
Another Magnus Archives fic from my little mundane AU! This one turned deeply, deeply self indulgent because of Bad Things Happening in my personal life so I make no apologies! Only thanks to @minky-for-short for all the encouragement with this AU in general!
Please reblog and comment over on Ao3 if you enjoyed this! (It is formatted a little nicer over there into the three separate chapters)

Three moments from Jonathan Sims' life, spent on the same beach in his hometown of Bournemouth.
Three moments of quiet.
----
One
The world was too loud for Jonathan Sims.
That was what his daadi would tell him, in a soft voice that didn’t do much to hide the disappointment like a cloth worn too thin to conceal what lay underneath. After the police would leave, their halfhearted concerns about Jon’s welfare muffled under cups of tea and homemade cardamom biscuits, after the headteacher would let them leave her office, everyone well aware how little had been achieved in that latest meeting, she would take his face in her hands, look him in the eyes and say it to him as she stroked a thumb across his cheek.
It wouldn’t be an accusation, not really, or an attempt at comfort. It would just be a statement of a fact that made life harder, a geography textbook’s explanation for floods or earthquakes or volcanic eruptions, something he just had to accept, just like the fact that everyone saw him as a girl no matter how many times he tried to correct them or tell them the name he’d decided for himself. The world is too loud for you, beti.
But daadi never told Jon what he could do to fix it. He was left to figure that out for himself.
The closest he’d found to a real answer was down on the beach.
Not that Jon had ever left Bournemouth to confirm this but, if he did, he imagined people sighing romantically at the idea of living there. They’d imagine it like residing in a postcard, the sea a perfect watercolour blue, the sand a butter yellow, the sunshine washing over everything all the time. The reality was very different. Postcards didn’t show the dense crowds that gathered on any day with a little sunshine, the rain that fell the rest of the year, the litter all those people left behind to blow across the grey sand like decorations left behind after a party. Or how the amusements always looked more than a little sad when the streets were empty, their garish paint peeling and their tinny songs becoming a headache.
So when Jon told his daadi he was going down to the beach- if he bothered telling her at all- he didn’t mean the same beach everyone pictured when they thought of Bournemouth. He avoided that place like the plague. The world was too loud for him so he needed somewhere that felt like it wasn’t part of the world at all, somewhere everyone else had forgotten so completely that it felt disconnected from everything else. He meant his beach.
It was hard to get to, especially for a pair of ten year old legs, involving a long walk along the striped cliffs of clay and sand, a perilous half climb, half slide down a particular face to find a little closed off bay tucked safely behind the curve of the land. Away from the wind and the rain and, more importantly, the rest of the world. It was a pebble beach rather than sand, the seaweed washed up thicker, the gulls were always screeching overhead but Jon didn’t mind. He would pack a book or two in his rucksack, whatever snacks he could find around the house, an extra jumper, a raincoat, everything he needed to maximise the amount of time before he had to come sloping back to civilization. He would tuck himself into the little natural caves and read, he would skim stones in the water, he would take off his socks and shoes and walk through the little shore, finding crabs and starfish and sea snails.
There he could be Jonathan for real, not just in his head.
Whenever he went there, he could feel the weight on his chest lift with every step he took away from the town proper, finally able to take a deep, full breath once he’d staggered down onto the little scrap of a beach.
Today, it felt like it had come just in time, a few seconds before he would have suffocated.
Jon scrubbed at the burn in his eyes that definitely wasn’t tears, silently begged his chest to stop heaving, his shoulders to stop shuddering. Now it was quiet, now he could actually think, his body finally listened. He took the rising, overwhelming emotion he’d carried all the way here, packed it into a box and shut the lid tightly, sent it away to somewhere far from here. Jon gulped down those things that weren’t tears, feeling such a sense of relief as the sea resolved in front of his eyes and became clear. He counted the whitecaps he could see, digging his fingers into the pebbles under his knees to feel their reassuring rattle and clack.
He was here. He was in his one quiet place, the one place he belonged, the one place that knew he was Jon and accepted it without question.
Once the steady roll and crash of the waves on the shore had cleared away the panic, Jon shifted to sit cross legged on the stones. He felt wrung out, hollowed, the way his favourite jumper had gone all thin and unravelled after he’d tried to put it in the washing machine. He couldn’t even find the anger anymore, there was just nothing.
Just the aching, echoing gap left behind when he just didn’t understand.
Jon’s stomach had already been a writhing mess of snakes as he’d walked out of school. They’d ended the day by working on making family trees, all the other students settling in excitedly for an hour spent with the colouring pencils. They moved around Jon, ignoring him as per usual, laughing and chattering away about whatever it was kids his age were supposed to talk about when they had someone to listen.
He’d been left to sit and stare at the name that everyone kept telling him was his, scrawled at the bottom of the template, his eyes following its dark lines up to the many branches with their own spaces for other names to go. Names he didn’t know. Names he’d never get to know. A whole family tree that had withered and died before he’d even gotten a chance to learn what the word even meant. Just him and his daadi, who already had a bad chest and doctors visits written onto the calendar in the kitchen that she didn’t want to talk about. When she went away, like his papa and his mama, his name would be completely and totally alone.
That’s when his eyes had started to blur and burn.
Miss Andi had done her circuit of the classroom, the only person to notice Jon sitting there, frozen under the weight of the grief he didn’t know how to hold. She’d been kind, of course, speaking in her soft voice, you don’t have to do it if you don’t want to, dear, you can go read in the corner if you like .
But her voice hadn’t been quite soft enough, the other children had still heard her, that damning sympathy carrying over the waves of chatter somehow. And then he’d felt the prickle of eyes on his back, wide stares like Jonathan Sims was just something behind a thick pane of museum glass and a little white card explaining just how sad and lonely he was. Though the card would probably call him the wrong name too.
He’d fled to the reading corner, even if none of the books there interested him anymore. He’d just needed to hide his face.
Maybe it was that tight, storm in the stomach feeling that had made him do something so stupid as standing up to those older kids. Most of Jon’s mind had still been running fruitless, frantic laps around the base of that blank family tree, he hadn’t even noticed his feet changing direction, striding towards the knot of hollering secondary school boys.
Jon’s voice hadn’t been nearly as forceful as he’d hoped for, it didn’t come along with the comic book style speech bubble announcing the arrival of a hero that he’d envisioned. But the boys had been surprised enough by anyone, even a stammering ten year old girl to their eyes, daring to tell them ‘stop’ that they’d turned regardless.
Jon had seen a glimpse of the stray cat they’d been tormenting, the same one those boys always went after when they saw her, just because she didn’t belong to anyone and they knew they could get away with it. A black streak fled between their legs the second she saw her chance, darting between some wheelie bins and disappearing. He’d felt a moment’s fierce pride, the solid certainty that he’d done the right thing.
Until it ended the same way that feeling always seemed to. With a heavy, painful thump as his legs were swept out from under him and he went crashing down.
Jon’s eyes were burning again. They weren’t tears but they really stung as they rolled down his face and into the scrapes on his cheeks, the split lip. He could tell himself that taste on his tongue was the salt in the air, that he couldn’t hear his own ragged, sobbing breaths over the scream of the gulls. He was alone, nothing else had to matter.
He didn’t have to think about how silently angry daadi would be about the blood on his collar and the rusty brown trail that had dripped down his front, how it was another school shirt and jumper ruined that they couldn’t afford to replace. Though of course the skirt he hated was unscathed. He didn’t have to think about how he’d pass those boys who’d seen him cry, again and again in the tight little maze of their streets, running and hiding from them like the poor cat. How he was sitting at the bottom of that bare and empty tree, completely alone, trying to take shelter in a world that was too loud for him.
So he decided it was a good thing. What other choice did he have?
Jon stood up, wiping his eyes, his jaw tight and determined. If the rest of the world wanted to chase him away then he’d let it. They could keep their noise and their rules that didn’t make sense, their expressions he couldn’t read, their cruelty and their wide eyed staring. He would just stay here forever and never go back. He’d sleep on a bed of seaweed, catch fish and eat seagull eggs, never having to hear another human voice full of anger or pity or disappointment or confusion.
Of course Jon knew it was a childish fantasy, something out of a Robinson Crusoe book he constructed to make himself feel better, to get the same kind of release as throwing pebbles at the cliff face to shatter. The reality was inescapable. He didn’t have any clothes or food or books with him, daadi would call the police when he didn’t come home before the sun went down, just like she always did. They’d find him as he trudged his way home, stomach growling and his whole body shivering with the cold, defeated.
But he also knew something else, deep down inside himself in a place he hadn’t explored yet. The place where the adult man he’d be one day was growing, half formed but crystallising slowly. That part knew he didn’t need to become a hermit on a beach to make sure he’d be alone. That he could choose it for himself, build up walls that didn’t need to be physically real to do the job.
As Jon walked up and down the beach, the life he painted for himself in his head was imaginary but the decision he made was very, very real.
He didn’t know how to fix the world. He didn’t know how to fix himself.
So he would just spend his life alone.
At least then it would be quiet.
Two
Jon had known it was going to feel strange, going down to the beach again.
There was no other way to feel, putting his feet in furrows he’d worn into the ground a long time ago, finding he still knew exactly where to step, when to turn off, where to go. Even after saying goodbye to this place years before, so sure he’d never see it again, discovering that the way had never really left him, that he hadn’t excised his childhood as neatly as he’d thought. Of course it was going to feel strange.
Jon just hadn’t expected something else to feel stranger. Because it wasn’t just walking in his own, smaller footsteps.
It was looking back over his shoulder to see who followed him.
“I thought you said you used to do this when you were a kid?” Martin’s voice was wheezy around the edges from the hike across the cliffs, but the indignation in it was clear.
It made Jon laugh, worth the mouthful of his own hair he got as the wind whipped around them, “I did. Nearly every day.”
“Didn’t know you were part mountain goat…” his boyfriend grumbled.
Jon grinned at that, hesitating so Martin could close the gap between them. He caught his hand as soon as he was in reach, sliding their cold fingers together like two cogs in a machine that had always been meant to sit next to each other.
It was early enough in their relationship that little things like that were still surprising Jon. How natural it all felt, how their bodies fit together in small ways, how their personalities that had once seemed so different now threaded together and made something good. Something really, really good actually.
He wondered if he’d ever stop being surprised by it, however long this thing between them lasted.
He would hardly call it a small thing but the only reason they were even standing here was because of Martin. Jon had never thought he’d go back to Bournemouth, certainly not after his daadi passed away. The idea had always made him feel sick, like the feeling of pulling off a bandage while knowing it would make the wound scream with pain and look disgusting.
But they were on a little road trip of sorts, driving down to Daisy’s hometown for her and Basira’s wedding. When Martin had realised how close they’d come to a piece of Jon’s own history, he’d suggested a visit with such a hopeful expression that Jon found himself caving far sooner than he’d ever expected, despite trying his best.
He’d pointed out they could only spare a few hours, that there was really nothing to see, there was no one who would even recognise or remember or be too pleased to be reminded of him. None of it put Martin off. He’d driven them here with an unmistakable excitement, like someone following a treasure map to a treasure trove. Jon didn’t have the heart to tell him that it was going to be more of a cursed ancient temple situation.
Of course they’d pulled up to a sky like slate and a sea the colour of a stagnant pond. Immediately the wind found every seam and minute hole on their coats, chilling them to the skin, then down to the bone as periodic showers of that infuriating thin, showering rain randomly fell. The pier and amusements had only gotten older and sadder, decrepit to the point where they’d become more like the setting of a horror movie that was being rather heavy handed with its metaphors. They’d walked up the same tight, claustrophobic streets that had taken a younger Jon home, past his old school, up to a house that looked like his daadi’s while somehow being so different that he couldn’t say he’d ever crossed it’s threshold.
And every time Jon had turned to Martin to apologise, to promise they could leave straight away and they never had to come back, he’d found him smiling.
He’d asked so many questions, what Jon’s favourite ice cream shop had been, which slightly malformed steed he’d always chosen on the merry go round, what his favourite subject at school was, which bedroom window had been his. Jon had given his answers, even if they’d felt small and sad to him, each one just making Martin smile wider.
Almost like he’d found the treasure he’d been looking for and it was just Jon himself.
So when Martin had asked where he used to play, Jon had reached out, taken his hand and asked him to follow him. He’d decided he’d show his boyfriend something real.
He just hadn’t told him it was at the bottom of a cliff.
“Jesus Christ, Jon, they let you do this when you were a kid?” Martin yelped, nearly slipping onto his backside as the path took a sharp slope downwards.
“No, of course not,” Jon looked over his shoulder from a few paces ahead, grinning, “That was kind of the point. It’s not that bad, really…”
“Not that bad!” Martin scoffed before almost losing his footing completely, only saved from a very hard landing when Jon reached out and caught him, “I always thought you’d be the kind of kid who stayed indoors with a book…”
Jon chuckled, deciding it was best to keep Martin’s hand in his as they skidded down the last little part, “Not really. I’m just that kind of adult. See, the beach is right there, keep your eyes on your feet, there we go…”
Jon found himself dropping right into the middle of his own past. His knees ached more as he braced himself against the pebbles but, other than that, the beach hadn’t changed in the slightest. The curve of the shore must have been enough to shelter it from the winds and time itself, keeping it preserved, not a single stone out of place. It felt a little sacrilegious to be disturbing it now, like it had been enjoying its peace before he came lumbering back.
Or was it glad to see him come back? Did it even recognise him after a decade and change, with a flat chest and short, greying hair and the rough stubble? This place that had always been the one corner of the world where he could escape and feel like he belonged might not even know who he was.
“It’s beautiful, Jon.”
Martin’s voice was soft and awed, a little much for what really amounted to a skinny strip of grey sand and pebbles, a fringe of decaying seaweed and a few hollows in a cliff wall. But something in Jon lifted when he said it, a kind of relief, a sense that he’d been right to know Martin would understand. That he’d see what this place had been to him, years ago.
“I always thought so,” Jon smiled, walking to the edge of the sea, where the water made an instrument of the pebbles as it rolled and rattled them against each other, “In a rough, rugged kind of sad way.”
“Well. That would explain your taste in men, I suppose,” Martin hummed, making Jon cackle along with him.
Again, Jon was struck by the strangeness of having another laugh bouncing off the cliffs alongside his own, when he’d always thought it would just be him alone and the scream of the gulls.
He picked through the pebbles around his boots, finding one that was suitably flat and correctly weighted. With a flick of his wrist that became familiar as soon as he drew back his hand, Jon sent it skimming across the water. Five times it kissed the surface before running out of momentum, five circles rippling out between the whitecaps.
Martin whistled appreciatively, “Guess you spent a while practising that when you were a kid?”
“Well, there’s some natural talent involved,” Jon hummed, playfully smug, “But yes. When I wasn’t playing pirates or pretending to be Mary Anning looking for fossils or imagining I was a siren chewing on the bones of washed up sailors…”
Martin grinned, glancing around like he was imagining a younger Jon racing across the stones, wrapped up in his little games and the momentary freedom they brought him. He bent to pick up a pebble of his own, trying to mimic Jon’s arm motion, though his pebble crashed into the water with an anticlimactic plink.
“See, that's how you can tell I was one of those kids who stayed inside with the books,” Martin gave a self-deprecating laugh.
Jon smiled, eyes focused on how the ripples from his stone and the ones from Martin’s were joining together, making a harmonious little pattern, a moment of synchronized calm in the middle of the irritable sea.
“I’ll teach you how to do it, if you like?” he offered, voice soft, “Unless you’d rather play pirates, of course.”
Martin grinned, smiling so wide the freckles in the corner of his eyes bunched up, “Maybe later. For now, how about you perform a miracle and get me to, let's say, three skips?”
Just like all those years ago, Jon felt like he could breathe easier down on the beach. All the sour memories from the town slid away, drawn off by the current, all the doubts that had buzzed in his brain over returning to the home where his name and his true self were things he’d never been able to share were blown off by the wind. Minutes passed by unnoticed, everything suddenly becoming so easy.
This place still knew him. He did still belong here.
“Don’t pull back so far, you’ll lose the control…that's it, just by your ear…deep breath…and go!”
The stone wobbled a little in the air and the last skip probably had a lot more to do with a gust of wind than any skill of Martin’s but there were definitely three skips before the stone sank.
Martin looked stunned, face alight with a mix of surprise and joy, “I actually did it!”
“You did,” Jon tried not to sound too surprised, it hadn’t needed a miracle exactly but it had certainly been a tall order, “I may live to regret giving you all my trade secrets.”
Martin turned to him, eyes soft and hopeful, “And…what about coming back to Bournemouth? Bringing me here? Do you think you’ll regret that?”
Jon paused before answering, not because he wasn’t sure, he just wasn’t sure of the right words. He leaned his head against Martin’s shoulder, again marvelling quietly at how his boyfriend was just the right height for it to fit perfectly.
“Do I regret bringing you down here? No, not at all. As for the rest of it? It was…nice to have you be interested. I kept a lot of that stuff packed away for a long time, trying to forget it happened but…it didn’t hurt as much as I thought, getting it all back out again. And I’m glad you made me do it.”
Jon felt Martin’s arm wrap around him like a warm blanket, drawing him in so close he didn’t even feel the wind anymore, “That’s what I was hoping for. It’s always going to hurt, digging through the past but I feel like it hurts more to pretend it isn’t there.”
Jon chuckled dryly, “You’ve been reading that book again, haven’t you? Supporting Your Partner’s Healing or whatever it was…”
“Well, it’s working, isn’t it?” Martin mumbled, a blush creeping up his neck over the collar of his parka.
“It is…and even if it wasn’t, I’d still love you for it,” Jon gentled his tone, finding Martin’s hand and squeezing, “It is strange, though, being here with you. I always came here to be alone, shut the rest of the world out. It was the point of the place, really.”
It couldn’t have come as a surprise to Martin, it probably wouldn’t have surprised anyone who’d known Jon for more than half an hour. But he sounded sad all the same, pulling him in and pressing a kiss to the top of his head.
“You were all alone?”
Jon swallowed hard against a sudden lump in his throat, “I…I thought I didn’t have a choice. I thought it was the only way someone like me could be. Whenever I tried anything else, it just hurt so…so I decided it was my choice. I acted like it was what I wanted.”
“Funnily enough, I got that impression when I met you,” Martin clearly tried for humour, betrayed by the way his voice broke just at the edge.
Jon turned his face against his shoulder, smiling even as tears rolled down his own cheeks “But it didn’t stop you, did it? You’re still here.”
“And I don’t plan on leaving, Jon,” Martin breathed, “Not ever.”
He couldn’t quite believe that, not yet. But maybe he would, one day.
“My daadi always used to say the world was too loud for me,” Jon rasped, “It still feels like that, sometimes. Most of the time, really.”
Martin stroked his hand up and down Jon’s arm, “I know…but it’s quiet right now?”
Jon took a deep breath of salty air, leaning into Martin’s warmth and counting the waves until his heartbeat slowed and the blood stopped rushing quite so loud in his ears.
“It is,” he murmured, knowing it would be enough for now.
In many ways, Jon was still the frightened kid who’d come to this beach to hide, certain it was the only place he could be safe. He still didn’t understand the world, he was still such a long way from fixing himself.
But right now, it was quiet.
And right now, Jon wasn’t alone.
Three
The beach hadn’t changed, it never did. It was a place so disconnected even time had forgotten it, leaving its stones undisturbed and its cliff faces unaging. A year passed between their visits, sometimes two, but leaning over the ragged edge of the world and looking down on it, Jon found it hard to believe.
His beach never changed but Jon did. And he never felt it more than what he was standing here.
Because he knew the zig zag path down the sandy side of the cliff wasn’t any different from the one he used to run down heedlessly when he was a child, not a care in the world. But he’d never realised how bloody dangerous it was.
Not until it was his child about to go careening down it.
“Daddy!” Gertie tugged at their joined hands with a surprising amount of strength for a three year old or maybe Jon was a lot weaker than he should be, “Daddy, lets go!”
Jon bit his lip, eyes following the path warily, wondering how he’d avoided breaking his neck for so long, “We just need to be very, very careful so we don’t-”
Before he could even finish his sentence, Gertie had pulled enough to send them over the edge. They were suddenly running, kicking up clay and sand, Gertie shrieking in delight and Jon choking on a word he really shouldn’t say in front of his daughter. They half ran, half fell, having to just put one foot in front of the other and trust there would be no broken noses or chipped front teeth. For a second, it was almost like flying.
And, by the time they landed on the stones, Jon was laughing too.
Gertie didn’t stop, Jon finally letting her hand slip from his so she could rush towards the waves, go on when he was too out of breath to follow. He felt something of his heart go with her, torn away but given gladly. Tears blurred his eyes for a moment, making them burn along with his lungs.
“I remember you telling me that walk was, and I quote, ‘not that bad’...”
Jon turned, smiling wryly, not bothering to hide the tear rolling down his cheek. Martin gently wiped it away as soon as he was in reach, letting his hand linger on his husband’s cheek. He didn’t ask, he knew he didn’t need to. He trusted that Jon would tell him.
“Guess I’m old and boring now,” he leaned into that warmth, sighing softly, “Too old and boring to keep up with her, at least.”
Martin pursed his lips, tilting his head in playful doubt, “Are you sure?”
He nodded towards the shore, shifting Jon’s attention to where their daughter was standing, a splash of colour in her bright yellow raincoat and shiny new wellies, stark against the greys like she really had stepped out of those classic postcards. She was waving, buzzing with childish impatience like she’d only just noticed that Jon wasn’t by her side anymore.
“Daddy, come on!’ she yelled, “You said we could play pirates!”
Martin smiled softly, nudging Jon’s hand, “If you are too old to keep up with her, I don’t think she’s noticed. And she certainly doesn’t care.”
Once again, Jon wondered how Martin did it. How, whenever the world started to twist around Jon and press in too close, Martin would take it and shake it out like a dusty old carpet, brushing away everything that was just Jon’s own fears and anxieties, leaving him with what was real. How he anchored him, holding his hand when the wind threatened to pull him away, showing him where it was safe to put his feet, leading him back to solid ground.
He didn’t know how he did it and he didn’t know how he was ever going to thank him for it, not just for that, but for everything. So he kissed him, tasting the cold on his lips. And by some miracle that Jon would never understand, that kept being enough for Martin.
“Daddy! Papa! You’re being gross!”
Jon snorted, finding Martin’s gloved hand and squeezing his fingers, “Come on. Let’s go play pirates.”
Time stopped meaning anything for a little while, the oddly comforting, familiar stress of their lives back in London felt far away. Jon had forgotten how easily games had carried him away when he was the same age as his daughter. How a salt smoothed branch in your hands could feel like a cutlass, how being chased by a wave could turn into an enormous shark lunging from the depths to sink his teeth into you, how the barest hollow in a cliff wall could become a snaking warren deep underground, perfect for smuggling imaginary treasure. He’d forgotten that the images his mind created didn’t need to be terrifying, they didn’t need to be something he fought against like a riptide looking to drag him out to sea.
He supposed it helped when the games weren’t an escape. When you were eager to return to the world you’d left behind.
Gertie ran them breathless up and down the beach, only coaxed to stop and take a break by their picnic, a tupperware box of her daddy’s cardamom cookies and a sandwich proving enough of a pull. Jon held her on his lap as she ate, hugging her warmth close against him, face buried in her tangle of auburn curls, just like Martin’s.
“Daddy,” she hummed, through a mouthful of crumbs, “Why are the pebbles all round here?”
Jon smiled, three years on the planet and she’d not yet run out of questions, “The sea wears them smooth, darling. It’s called attrition, the waves roll them around until all their sharp edges have been rubbed away.”
“Oh,” Gertie hummed, reaching down to grab one, turning it over in her chubby hand as she examined every nick and stripe on its surface, “It makes them very pretty.”
“I think so too,” Jon chuckled, “And it makes them very good for skimming.”
That snagged her attention, her green eyes widening, “Oh! I wanna do that! Can we?”
Jon smiled over at Martin, “Actually? Your papa ended up being the expert on that. He’s way better at it than I ever was.”
Martin snorted, blushing a little, the way he always did when he was given any sort of compliment, “Well. I had a very good teacher.”
“Teach me! Teach me, papa!” Gertie scrambled up, needing both her hands to wrap around just one of her papa’s, trying to pull him to his feet.
Martin beamed at her like he was looking at the sun, clambering up from the stones, “I’m coming, sweetie…are you going to be okay on your own?” he hesitated, turning back to Jon for a moment.
Jon nodded, hugging his knees to his chest, feeling warm in spite of the cold, “I will be. You won’t be far.”
“Never,” Martin’s eyes softened before letting Gertie lead him down to the shore.
Their laughter and chatter faded a little, somewhat lost in the rumble of the waves but, just like Martin promised, he never lost sight of them. They looked like a perfect pair, same softness, same muddy red curls, even the same jumper after Martin had enough yarn left over for two. Sitting here, Jon could just wonder how he was ever lucky enough to get two of them.
He’d always feigned frustration over their daughter coming out as the spitting image of Martin, joking that he could have saved himself nine months of work and just shoved his husband into the Archives photocopier. Martin would always joke right back, batting his eyelids and saying, well, they’d have to have another kid, see if they could get one with some of Jon’s genetics. He’d never mean it, not really, he’d never push his husband about something like that.
Jon was looking forward to seeing Martin’s face when he told him they were going to find out.
But that could wait until they were back in London, back in their lives. For now, Jon sat and listened to the waves, thinking about the little boy who’d come here to be alone, to hide from a world that refused to understand him and was too loud for him. The little boy who’d built his walls here, thinking he’d have to live behind them forever, that his only choice was between quiet and fear, that there was never any path that would lead to happiness. That he’d never be fixed.
Jon didn’t know if he was fixed, not completely. But maybe that wasn’t how it worked. Maybe there had always been a place in the world anyway, he’d just needed to be brave enough to find it.
He knew he couldn’t go back in time and reassure that younger version of himself, promise him it would all be okay in the end, that he would deserve all the joy that would eventually find him. That child was out of his reach.
But Jonathan Sims could make sure, would make sure, that his own children never had to feel like the world was too loud for them.
They would never feel like they had to be alone.

hi i’m home sick with a fever pls enjoy some porn (steddie + daddy kink, rated E, 18+, minors peace out now etc etc)
“Oh, fuck,” Eddie whines. “S-say it again.”
“Say what, baby?”
“Tell me you love me. Tell me you love me when you come.”
Steve slows his thrusts, smiling with his tongue caught between his teeth as he leans back to fold Eddie’s legs up against his chest and squeeze his thighs together. “Uh uh. You know better than that, baby, ask nicer.”
He pushes in with one long, slow glide, pressing in deep, making Eddie’s eyes roll back in his head before he resumes his brutal pace, lifting Eddie’s hips fully off the bed.
“Please!” Eddie cries. He feels like a ragdoll. Like a toy, a brainless thing built just for Steve’s pleasure. And he wants to please him, wants him to feel as good as he feels. “Please, Daddy. Been so good for you, please please please—“
“Yeah, you have,” Steve grunts, pumping his hips faster, “such a good girl, aren’t you? So proud of you. So fucking proud of you, baby, oh, shit—”
His hips stutter out of rhythm, his face twisted up in pleasure. “Feels so— fuck, I love you, baby,” he groans, his voice so low and sweet as he pulses deep inside, the words dripping like syrup from his kiss-bruised mouth, and Eddie comes undone. He wails and shivers and convulses on Steve’s cock, too fucked out to notice he’s screaming as he spurts between them, cum splashing warm and wet all over his chest, his ribs, pooling in his belly button.
Steve rocks him through it, petting his hair, squeezing his thighs, saying, “Good girl, good girl, that’s it, baby, come for me.”
“Oh, my fucking god,” Eddie laughs breathlessly when he finishes riding out the aftershocks. Steve pulls out with a soft pop, rolls onto his back beside him and groans in exhaustion, and Eddie fucking giggles as the cum drips out of him, kicking his socked feet in the air like a squealing school girl.
“Baby,” he swoons, totally overwhelmed, pawing blindly at Steve’s chest hair, “that was the hottest thing you’ve ever said to me.”
Steve looks over at him with so much naked love and affection that Eddie almost weeps. “Oh, so I’m ‘baby’ now, am I?” he teases, poking Eddie in the side just to make him giggle and squirm some more. “What happened to Daddy, huh?”
“Nothing,” Eddie smiles, soft and sweet. He nuzzles his way into the crook of Steve’s arm, tucking himself against his chest and planting a kiss right over his heart. “Thank you, Daddy, I love you.”
“Love you, too, baby. So much.”

27/NOV/20XX
returning home, the first thing i noticed is that the place is.. impossibly clean.
even the couch stopped jingling with loose change.
oddly, my bedsheets are also on the couch, folded neatly with my pillows on top.
"OH! SORRY. I DIDN'T GET THE CHANCE TO MOVE THEM BACK BEFORE LEAVING."
"why were they down here to begin with?"
"BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE YOU WERE."
"thought i... remembered being in my room, but maybe i shouldn't rely on my memory there."
"THAT'S ALSO TRUE."
"I DIDN'T WANT TO JUST KEEP YOU IN ONE PLACE THE WHOLE TIME."
"...."
"you lugged me around like a corpse?"
"DON'T PUT IT LIKE 𝘛𝘏𝘈𝘛..."
"...I APPRECIATE IT, BUT WHY THE SUDDEN HUG?"
"don't look at my face for a minute, ok?"
"...?"
he didn't listen, and quietly moved to see my face.
"..?!"
"WHAT DID I DO??"
"make me feel like a big crybaby, 's what."
"I'M SORRY. I DIDN'T MEAN TO-"
"i know."
"I'M SORRY."
"stop apologizing, paps."
"SORRY."
"I MEAN- NOT-"
"........."
silently, he just tightened his embrace.
"IT'S BEEN... HOW MANY YEARS SINCE THIS LAST HAPPENED?"
papyrus answered himself.
"MANY."
"THIS ONLY BEING THE SECOND TIME IN SO LONG.. AND YOU WEREN'T EVEN AWAKE FOR THE FIRST."
i touched my face. a few pathetic droplets were the extent of it.
"..hardly counts, does it?"
"I'M COUNTING IT."
"ok."
"AND I'M GOING TO TELL EVERYONE HOW MUCH YOU CRIED AND CRIED, FOR HOURS..."
"you picked up sarcasm while i was out, huh?"
"..REALLY? DID I?"
"a little."
"OH, NO!"
"NEXT THING YOU KNOW, I'M GOING TO BE MAKING TERRIBLE PUNS WITH WORSE TIMING!!"
"nah, probably wouldn't go that far. i don't 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘬 you as the type to do all that."
"HOUR-NESTLY, WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH YOU?"
"...EGH."
"NOT GOOD."
"it was alright."
"puns take a 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥 to get used to making."
"careful, though. once you start, it's hard to stop."
"I THINK I'VE HAD ENOUGH 𝘈𝘓𝘙𝘌𝘈𝘋𝘠.."
——
"........"
"uh."
ok.
papyrus had off-handedly mentioned that i sleep on a floor mattress to tori once, right?
which is good enough for me, but tori promptly gifted me a bedframe that gyftmas.
christmas? gyftmas?
hell if i know what to call it anymore.
anyway, this was at least last year or so.
and last i knew, i still hadn't put the frame together.
putting it under my mattress like a platform worked all the same.
another un-built box i've had since snowdin is this nightstand/dresser thing i got one time.
it also works the same in-box, y'know. why bother?
...they're assembled now.
my room is clean.
there's no trash tornado.
even the clothes i normally toss about with disregard are neatly tucked away and folded into appropriate drawers.
"..wow."
"....."
"why?"
"NO RECENTLY-HOSPITALIZED BROTHER OF MINE IS SLEEPING ON THE FLOOR! ESPECIALLY NOT THE FLOOR THAT WAS COVERED IN TRASH."
"it was-"
"DON'T SAY IT."
"NO MORE SAYING THINGS ARE 'FINE'."
"ok."
"looks nice though, paps."
"thanks for doing all this."
"although..."
i re-checked the living room.
...
ok, nevermind. there's one non-clean thing.
the sock is still there.
——
we got my stuff from the couch, and set everything back on my (recently-assembled) bed.
"ISN'T IT MORE COMFORTABLE?"
"don't think i can get back up."
"SEE HOW MUCH NICER ACTUALLY-"
"i'm like a bicycle."
"I-"
"WHAT??"
"...i'm two-tired."
papyrus just sighed and clicked the lights off.
"GOODNIGHT THEN, SANS."
"night, bro."
the lights being off made papyrus appear as nothing more than a silhouette.
a silhouette that remains in the doorframe for a bit longer than usual.
"..PLEASE WAKE UP TOMORROW."
with that, he shut the door, darkening my room to the only light being what little spilled in underneath the door.
my soul has felt like a big bruise since waking up today, and that...
felt like someone punching said bruise.
——
..i think he's realized my lights are back on.
welp. wanted to stop writing, anyway.
—
heya papyrus.
- sans.
—
—
SLEEP, SANS.
P.S.
WHY DID YOU BOTHER WITH A NOTE? I'M NOT HANDING THIS BACK TONIGHT. YOU WON'T EVEN SEE IT UNTIL TOMORROW.

W.I.T.C.H. redesigns
Like with my Winx redesigns, I mostly browsed the wiki and blended my favorite design elements together lol.
I did end up using more New Power elements in the 1st forms, and the original designs in the 2nd forms. Idk knowing that the girls got to cover up more as they grew up instead of covering up more as kids....not a huge fan.
Overall: Guardians got color-coded wings. I really really like the og wing shapes, but the color-coding feels more classic magical girl to me so. I did use the shoe-less element from the reboot in the 2nd form. Bare feet feels more spiritual/magical imo. I actually like that part of the reboot design! Same with the element icons. 1st forms get more of the urban part of the urban fantasy look. Comfy tennis shoes for all. 2nd form gets gold accessories. 2nd form's main colors are the darker sub colors of the og. 2nd form socks are gradients instead of striped 2 tone. Normal clothes are mostly the og 2000s look. Idk I think that Will's technomancy is less impressive if Siri exists lol.
Elyon: I used Elyon's reboot hair texture. I always thought that between the color and texture of og Elyon's hair that it looked like straw? She's got a "chubby" body. I use "" bc she looks average, but would be considered chubby?
Will: If Disney owns these girls then Will gets a Kermit shirt. Since she's a tomboy, both of her guardian forms get shorts. 1st form gets a hood. Her hair gets some of her mother's waves. Normal hair does the emo hide-the-eye thing: really lean into her angst. In both guardian forms her hair does not change length. The short hair is truly her. Her bangs get the og treatment, and some hair gets tucked behind her left ear. The heart gets absorbed into Will in guardian form: she can still use it, it just isn't physically there in guardian form.
Irma: Dresses like she's an extra on Hannah Montana. It feels right. Her guardian hair gets space buns bc sometimes in her civilian forms she wore them, and I think she looks cute in them. Her 1st form is has heavy insp from Cassidy's guardian form. I just like the top better lol. Since Will lost the og little heart on her skirt, I gave it to Irma. It feels more Irma anyway imo. Irma also gets a chubbier body type.
Taranee: I love og Taranee's civilian form. I love her clothes, I love her hair, I love the hair beads, man og Tarnee's look is so chef's kiss to me. So I really didn't change anything. I have never once in my life understood what in the world og guardian Taranee's hair was supposed to be! In og New Power, she gets dreds, but keeps her 1st form hair too???? Dreds was my only guess as to what those were supposed to be, but with NP's hair having both, I don't think they were dreds??? And they don't look like the way that braids/hair twists are drawn in the comic (og Elyon has hair twists? Or at least I've interpreted that style as twists rather than braids?). So that plus how much I love civilian Taranee's hair, 1st form gets the civilian hair. She looses the beads, but gets a a wrap colored with the gradient of the purple-teal. 2nd form gets braids with gold accessories. I always felt like Taranee's og guardian forms seemed less designed than the others bc there were no swirly designs?? I mean, she gets a small heart on her collar, but that was taken off in the animated series probably for animation reasons. I actually like the triangle cut-out instead of the heart bc of fire's triangle icon, so I used that. I did take the waistline from Cornelia's skirt (my personal favorite waistline) and gave it it her shorts. She gets long sleeves in the 1st form. I just think it looks nicer than the sleeveless look in this design.
Cornelia: Both guardian forms get longer hair. 1st form gets a choker necklace. She looses the long sleeves and gets sleeves. Looking at og Cornelia and Irma's 1st forms, Cornelia's feels like a more elegant version of Irma's, so I wanted to keep that element in a way. Her skirt waistline gets turned to become the hem of the top. Her 2nd form keeps the og collar, but her top is inspired from comic Halinor's 1 sleeve shirt: Cornelia's top is 1 sleeved with a long glove.
Hay Lin: She gets braids in both forms. Like with Irma, sometimes she wears braids in civilian form, and I think it's cute. 2nd form gets two braids combined into a single one in the back, letting the rest of her hair blow free in the wind. She also gets sleeves in both forms for max blowing-in-the-wind factor, plus I wanted at least 2 members to have bell sleeves. 1st form gets NP Irma's top with an edited neckline. 2nd form gets the heart waistline, a lengthened skirt, and a choker necklace. Her civilian form looses the goggles, replaced with purple jelly sunglasses.
