A report presented to the London police services board Thursday shows that hate- or bias-motivated crimes rose by nearly 40 per cent in 2023.

The report tracks both hate crimes, defined as “any criminal offence committed against a person or property” motived by hate or bias towards race, religion, gender, sexuality or disability, and hate incidents, defined as behaviours that are motivated by the same factors but aren’t criminal acts.

Since 2019, London has seen an increase in the number of reported hate crimes to the tune of 270 per cent, while incidents have increased by 161 per cent. [...]

Inside a London courtroom Tuesday, a mischief charge against London physician Dr. Tarek Loubani was dropped.

“We knew that we were going to win this case, we were ready to fight this case straight to the end,” said Loubani, speaking with CTV News outside the courthouse on Dundas Street in London, Ont.

Nearly a year ago, Loubani, who also teaches at Western University, was arrested and charged with mischief, for spraying ketchup on the exterior of Member of Parliament Peter Fragiskatos’ office �� he spent a night at the holding cells inside London Police Service Headquarters.

“What I was doing when I sprayed ketchup during this protest against genocide is a constitutionally protected right,” said Loubani.

His counsel Arash Ghiassi and Riaz Sayani, sent a statement to CTV News, in part it reads, “Members of the public have the constitutional right to protest against their elected officials. Had the charge not been withdrawn, we would have defended the case at trial on this basis, as well as on the merits.”

Loubani said they’ve been asking Fragiskatos to take a strong position against an “act of genocide.”

“He has said nothing in approximately a year. And when he did say something in December of 2023, it was to Palestinians for their own genocide,” added Loubani.

Just hours after the mischief charge was dropped, Loubani returned to Fragiskatos’ office, spraying it with ketchup once again. He expressed no concern of getting charged.

I saw the headline and thought this would just be a fun silly story, but then I read the article and found out that Tarek Loubani did this in protest of his elected official's lack of support for Palestine. Absolute king. I'm glad the charges were dropped.

It was around 10:40 p.m. when first responders arrived on scene to douse the flames. No one was injured but the damage estimate is roughly $30,000. CTV News has obtained surveillance video, which shows the suspect come to the home and steal signs supporting human rights in Palestine, as well as an Our London Family sign. He also left a note on the porch, which read, “One more time if I see you put that stupid (expletive) Free Palestine…I’m warning you.”

Note that this is the same city the Afzaal family was killed by self-proclaimed white nationalist 3 years ago. Even with the development of associations to combat islamophobia, the Muslim community in London, Ontario saw the largest increase in reported hate crimes last year, up 263 percent since 2022.

this investigation has been going on for years and today it was announced that London, Ontario police had ordered for 5 NHL players to turn themselves in, in order to face charges.

a few days ago, Dillon Dubé stepped away from the flames, yesterday Carter Hart took an “indefinite leave of absence”, today Alex Formenton was granted an indefinite leave of absence by his swiss team, and now Michael McLeod and Cal Foote have been granted an indefinite leave of absence by the Devils.

all 5 of these players were on the Hockey Canada WJC team in 2018 and had not been cleared from the investigation.

In recent years, however, it feels as if Canada has taken a step back.

Dr. Ayelet Kuper published a report in 2022, “Reflections in Addressing Antisemitism in a Canadian Faculty of Medicine” about antisemitism at the University of Toronto Medical School and problems with the school administration’s handling of Jew-hate. No one was chastised.

The hatred of Jews at universities is rampant today. Islamist extremists, a sliver of Islam, populate our universities, despite theologian Cardinal John Newman’s “idea of a university” as a place of tolerant exchanges. Victoria University, for instance, invited an iman who advocates the eradication of Jews to speak and Ottawa University hired an Islamist convicted in France for bombing a synagogue—imagine his classes.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow and her cohorts in City Hall have not done nearly enough to combat antisemitism and hate across the city. During her administration, a rampage of pro-Palestinian protestors blocked the entrance at Mount Sinai Hospital, and Jewish schools and synagogues have come under gunfire.

What caused this antisemitic surge? Islamists and far-left radicals. The Muslim Brotherhood is alive in Canada with its aim to eradicate Jews and Christians.

In 1988, Toronto hosted the Group of Seven Summit with leaders from around the world. Then Mayor Art Eggleton appointed me co-chair of the Toronto Preparatory Committee where I liaised with Royal Canadian Mounted Police and then-Police Chief Bill Blair. More protesters were arrested in the four days of the summit than from all the violent, anti-Jewish protests that have taken place in Toronto since Oct. 7. Police today are overworked and underfunded.

Chow fails to protect Jews or curb antisemitic protests. No doubt there is a correlation between the lack of movement on fighting Jew-hatred and the overall criminal spike in Toronto that is affecting the entire city. She is the uncrowned queen of lawlessness, the modern Ninevah. Violence against Jews begets violence against all citizens. The cost of crime is Chow’s latest tax on all taxpayers.

Appeasement erodes democracy, and that’s what we are witnessing today in Toronto and across Canada.

My father, a wounded war veteran in the Polish War of Independence, who received an award for gallantry, fell in love with my mother and settled in London, Ontario, in 1930. During World War II, he would pour over the London [Ontario] Free Press, pointing out where Canadians gave their lives for liberty. My brain was branded with Canada’s love of liberty. Today, I live with high expectations that the Canada my father loved will re-emerge.

The London Police Department has been caught with invoices from a PR firm amounting to over $104,000 in public spending to help them promote their unnecessarily large budget asks. These invoices are cold, hard proof that they did not need those funds and are corruptly abusing the community with their greed and avarice.

It’s official, the London (Ontario) islamophobic attacks have been recognized as acts of terrorism.

"I have chosen not to name the offender nor recite the hateful hateful statements that he shared with police or in his manifesto. This is because his actions constitute terrorist activity," Superior Court Justice Renee Pomerance told a packed courtroom. “One might go so far as to characterize this as a textbook example of terrorist motive and intent...By not referring to the offender by name, and not restating his views, I am trying to reduce the potential use of these proceedings as a platform for the ideology that spawned the violent acts of June 6, 2021."

Petting zoo animals at London Pride event die after Ontario farm receives anonymous anti-2SLGBTQ+ email

London police are investigating the deaths of two animals and the illness of a third after they were on display at a petting zoo for children, part of a weekend Pride event in the southwestern Ontario city.

Two rodents — a Patagonian cavy named Bean and Cashew the guinea pig — died, and Apollo the goat is being monitored for symptoms at the farm, said Bethany Tout, owner of Little Hobby Hill Farm, an animal sanctuary and therapeutic farm based in Salford.

"I'm really hoping that it's not true that someone did this. I really hate to think that someone would do this intentionally," Tout told CBC News.

A post-mortem on the guinea pig will be conducted in Guelph to determine cause of death, Tout said.

"That can take a couple of days, but I am hoping it's quick so we can have answers."

Despite uncertainty over how the animals died, Phelan said, it's unsettling, especially at a time when London police say hate crimes against members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community are on the rise.

Incidents of Islamophobia and antisemitism in Canada are on the rise, with the National Council of Canadian Muslims reporting an over 1,000% increase in reported incidents of street harassment, threats, and more. 

Likewise, there have been a series of vandalism and threats targeting Jewish Canadians. 

In Toronto, Ontario one man and two teens were arrested after making threats against a Jewish school. In Thornhill, the Sephardic Kehila Centre reported a man standing outside with a knife and an axe to police. A spokesperson for the York Regional Police told the Canadian Anti-Hate Network the area was searched but no arrests were made.

On October 11, two women in Vancouver reported they were followed and threatened with rape after leaving a vigil for those murdered during the attack on Israel.

In London, the same city that saw a family of Muslims murdered in a targeted attack in 2021, the words "Kill All Muslims" was scrawled on the wall of an apartment building.

Numerous other incidents likely go unreported as police statistics only capture about one per cent of the number of hate crimes that people in Canada self-report. Jewish and Muslim organizations both report significant increases in incidents targeting their communities.

Researchers have also found a consistent trend when it comes to both Islamophobia and antisemitism rising online as a result. Online hatred toward Muslims on 4chan grew significantly after the Hamas attacks on October 7, according to the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism (GPAHE).

“Across 4chan, Gab, Odysee, and Bitchute, antisemitic and anti-Muslim posts went from 618 to 3466 from October 6 to October 8, demonstrating a 461% increase. While this is a narrow search that won’t capture every conceivable slur, the data demonstrates how quickly hate proliferates against targeted communities during times of conflict,” GPAHE said in a report.

the NHL knew that these guys were gonna get charged, and they worked out a deal with the London Ontario police dept to release the information at this particular time. Right before the All star game? All of this in the news cycle and fanbase is gonna get absolutely eclipsed by the ASG and while people are still going to talk about it, more people are gonna be talking about the ASG. And we know that police depts are absolutely corrupt to their bones, you're telling me that they wouldn't take yummy NHL money to keep something like this quiet for a little while? as @samuelbennett so helpfully informed me, Hart and Dube were in the final years of their contract, with Foote and McLeod on one-year contracts. E.M. came forward in 2022. Did they wait for two years for justice so teams wouldn't lose money? A month before the trade deadline? Right before the All-Star Game? And all those fucking "illnesses" Hart had earlier in the season? the "bad fish?" is that what we're calling it?

The cops knew in November – at least – if not earlier, if we're thinking way long-term, especially considering a trial might not happen until 2026 – & the NHL paid them to keep it quiet til now, when they knew that people's thought processes would get suddenly interrupted by the ASG, and no one would think too hard about it. The blatant attempt to redirect attention by announcing a potential Utah expansion team? No way. Also staged, to make them look less intelligent than they really were, so nobody would accuse them of exactly what I'm accusing them of right now. "The NHL is so stupid if they think they can redirect our attention with the expansion team news" no. the NHL is not just gary bettman in his ivory tower. The NHL has leagues of lawyers and PR reps and god only fucking knows who advising them. The NHL wants you to think they're stupid. The NHL knows that you're dropping, hard, and they are going to cushion your fall with the All-Star Weekend, and you're going to like it.
