How Nature Can Define Our Relationship With the World That Surrounds Us

Hi everyone, I am super excited for this semester and I really look forward to reading all of your insights. For me, nature has been such an important tool in my life. Ever since I was young and to this day, I find myself turning to nature in times of need, stress, and anxiety. Although we cannot verbally speak with nature, there is definitely a communication factor that has become so prominent in my life. Over the years and as I began to mature into a young adult who needed to make important decisions, it was really important for me to find an outlet. Nature has a sense of peace and tranquility that almost always makes me feel better. Even if it didn't solve my problem, it brought me back to a state of calmness that helped me realize the importance of taking things slow and opening my eyes to the kinds of options and opportunities that surround me.

Over the past few years, I have become particularly close with nature and have become a huge fan of grounding. In simple terms, grounding is bare skin contact with the earth's surface and can be done by walking or sitting outside barefoot. This practice is one that I have more recently adopted however I have found incredible results. Personally, I feel this is one of the reasons dogs are always in high spirits. They are in constant contact with the earth and its energy.

I grew up visiting my cottage which is located in Hanover, just 10 minutes outside of Walkerton. This place is my absolute sanctuary. It is so lush and full of life, it truly revives my soul. Growing up in a household that valued the essence of nature, it became really easy to develop my own relationship and there is nothing better than doing that at my cottage with my family and friends. It is located more in the countryside and is always a breath of fresh air when I get away from highly urbanized towns and cities. It's a reminder that this earth is so full of life and blessings and has opened my eyes to possible opportunities away from home.

I have a Schnoodle and she is a half toy poodle and half miniature schnauzer. She is my absolute best friend and pride and joy. She has taught me so much over the years and has really encouraged me to take the time to be outside and go on adventures. Whether that's taking her on the kayak at the lake or stepping away from the school work to take her on her favourite trails, she works alongside nature by encouraging me to do things that benefit me and calm my uneasy nerves.

Nature is so much more than a physical environment. It's a sense of belonging, peace and tranquility. It can provide you with such a deep connection that encourages you to journey beyond the physical environment. Nature is intrinsic and so is its energy. It is something that people must learn to come to terms with and we must learn to accept the influences and teachings of nature as is is there to be used a resource to better understand ourselves, not to harm.

My grandma has 3 dogs, one of them—the youngest—is a Golden Retriever, but this is not about Lola. the other two—mother and daughter—have internalized when my grandma gives them food and whenever she forgets to feed them they start to give her the paw and touch the feeder-thingy (i forgor the name of it) and she laughs it off and gives them.

Lola, on the other hand, thinks it's food time when humans are eating (she prob ate 2 seconds ago but still), in Lola's case Abuela just ignores the dog unless it's actually it's food time (Lola has a diferent food time because she's a dumbass and lets the other two poodles eat her food).

  BACKGROUND.     ⸻    lucian was born in south korea but raised in france, where his mother is from and to where she went back right after the divorce, when he was just three years old. mainly because of distance, his parents rarely spoke to each other unless it was to talk about their son. so, for the most part of the year, lucian was a pretty normal french boy, and when summer came and he went to visit his dad, he became a very strange korean boy. weird, but kinda fun if you asked him.

at nineteen, lucian decided to go to england to study english, where he stayed for over five years. in general, it was a very nice and enriching experience. college was nice; he had lots of fun, made good friends, and achieved his goal of practicing his third language. at that time, he worked for a friend of his mother because she would not be fine with him living so far away and having nobody he could call if needed. so, there he was, working in his first big-boy job in a corporate office when he met his boss's daughter.

it was love at first sight for him, but not for her. he had to put all his french boy charms to use in order to finally win her over. and, oh god, they were so in love it was a little disgusting. everybody believed they would be together forever, in a very fairytale-like romance kind of way. but reality hit them after three years together and two of them living together. their routines were different, their goals in life were different; they could not even pick a movie without showcasing how different their tastes were. so, they decided to split.

feeling an overwhelming need for a fresh start and not a single wish to go back home, lucian moved to florida. that's how he ended up in palmview. and truth be told, he was never disappointed in his choice. he enjoys the weather, the lifestyle, and the people—probably because it is so far away from his previous reality, which is exactly what he always wanted.

  PERSONALITY.     ⸻    lucian has always been a little too complex of a person, marked by his brooding intensity, a huge sense of responsabilty and a profound romanticism. with a very strong moral compass, he's always ought to procted and take care of people around him; friends, neighbours, his students. his intelligence appears in his always articulated speeches, sophistication marks its presence in the details, in his refined taste. and yet, he's not picky or thinks too high of himself. lucian displays vulnerability beneath an almost stoic exterior, struggling with his feeling, with the need of isolation and longing.

Corey and Oats in..

Raymon: The Adventurous Little Horse.

Corey and Oats had many new friends and there was never a shortage of fun, Oats made many new friends who were all unicorn family members that loved their mommy oh so much and now he was going to get another one. The duo were in their house in Nile Road, and they were talking to Mel about going on another new adventure which made Oats a very excited and delighted horse.

The duo got ready for their adventure and picked out some unicorn friends to go with them along with Neeve, when the duo were ready they followed Neeve and Mel and got into the floating van that was parked outside. The floating van took off and took them all the way to Glenfield Mall, upon reaching the mall the duo got out of the van and explored.

Corey and Oats looked around in Toyworld, taking note of all the plush toys they saw including some seahorses that remind them of Mystic and Trident, a fantastic rainbow colored unicorn who neighed and galloped up to Oats, and a cute purple colored unicorn with a rainbow horn.

Oats picked up the unicorn and hugged her…’Rosette? That is an adorable name for a unicorn.’ ‘It sure is.’ ‘Can we adopt her? Please?’ ‘Well, we’ll see.’ ‘But let’s see if we can find Lola.’ Corey nodded and the two of them searched for Lola, looking at where the Zuru cone animals were, no matter where they looked they always saw the same ones and those ones were the lion, monkey, poodle and zebra. Oats looked at the zebra…’You may be a fellow equine, but you are not a unicorn.’ ‘Also why would he be named Rainbow?’

After that the duo entered the Warehouse and took a look at the items and took some photos, including one of a Rainbocorn unicorn egg. ‘Do unicorns come from eggs, mommy?’ ‘Oh no, they are born just like other animals are when they are born.’

Oats galloped around in the store looking at the toys before leaving it with Corey and Mel, after that they stopped by Electronics Boutique where they saw lots of toys and things for gaming, and that’s where Corey saw a plushie of a creature from Dungeons and Dragons.

The creature was a round creature with a giant eye in the middle of his head and multiple tentacles with eyes on them..’Look, it is a beholder.’ ‘That eyeball monster from the game?’ ‘Why yes, it is.’ The pink beholder looked over at Corey, he looked like he was the same shape as Corey and could pass as one of his cousins.

“What do you think, should we adopt him?”

“Yes…on our next visit we should ask about that.”

The beholder whose name was Aiyido looked over at the two of them with his one big eye and asked…’Can you please adopt me? I need some friends and I have been locked in a dungeon for so long.’ ‘Don’t cry little guy, we’ll come back for you.’ ‘Do you promise?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Yaaay!’

After exiting EB Games the duo entered Farmers where they cruised over to the plush toy section and picked up a palm pal, that’s where Oats say one that was a cute horse like him…’mommy, look another horse. Isn’t he pretty?’ ‘Of course he is, we can adopt him if you like.’

Oats liked the idea of adopting him as the duo picked him up and bought him, Mel paid for him and hugged him as they left the store and went to go and have something for lunch, they had sushi at the food court.

After having sushi at the food court they paid a brief visit to Whitcoulls to see if any of their friends were still there, Oats saw Snookie…the same pink unicorn from before who looked up at him with a hopeful look in her eyes. ‘I will be back for you, don’t cry little unicorn.’

“Okay, Oatsie…I love you.”

“I love you too Snookie.”

He blew the little unicorn a kiss before leaving the store, along the way they waved to Cookie Monster and Elmo before heading out of the mall and back into the floating van, the floating van took off once more…taking them all the way back home to Nile Road.

Once they arrived at Nile Road they all relaxed and had fun, Oats dubbed the new horse Raymon and Raymon was happy to be Oats’s newest family member and he loved him very much, they listened to music and had some snacks for afternoon tea.

After afternoon tea they waited for dinner, and after dinner they emailed Jill about their adventure and had all sorts of fun including a karaoke contest. When their karaoke contest was over, they went into the bedroom and got ready for bed, putting on their nightclothes and brushing their teeth.

Oats and Corey both helped Mel pick out a sleepover buddy..they picked Majinko and Ramon, as the two equines cuddled up with the duo and drifted off to sleep, having sweet dreams about their adventures.

As we approach the end of the year it's good to see as many dogs as possible trying to get on top of their training skills - hopefully they'll all be invited to be a part of the upcoming festivities because they are such good boys and girls!

Winton the Bulldog x used his session to learn to stay on his mat, even when the guest arrived (that's me!) and started practicing not barging out the front door. He got to do some socialisation with Zander & Miki, and learned that dragging Mum over to another dog is not ok with her, even if you just want to play.

Max the Lab boy worked on his drop and drop stepaway (stay) under distraction - Zander was a great distraction. Max also has had some sociability issues in the past and did well with greeting Zander nicely and even got some b*m sniffs going.

Duggee the Cobberdog puppy learned mat command for the first time, and did well staying on the mat for short stretches until released. He had a good play with Zander and then learned about not barging into the house until invited. With guests coming soon into the household he'll need to be polite & quiet, and wait to be invited so it's important that his family practice now before things get too hectic.

Henry the Beagle x Poodle & his sister Lola the Groodle had their second session, and they learned to drop and hold a drop stepaway, which neither had learned before, so well done. We also worked on not jumping up on people as well as Henry's incessent barking, which tends to trigger Lola as well. That one will be a work in progress.

Daisy the Cavoodle had her second session too, and learned to drop and hold her drop with Jaffa to show her the ropes. Then she also practiced not barking at every movement out the front window. Finally we added a boundary challenge for her. Daisy's Mum is preparing her for an upcoming house move and she'll need some great manners and imprecable listening skills in her new living space so lots of practice is needed now.
