I sort of have an idea for an imagine. What about a Filipino!reader where she loves to eat and her favorite is puto(the spiders probably always see her eating). So one time somebody like Miguel asks her what she was eating and she says "puto" with a warm smile and all and then Miguel is just baffled 😨 (you add like the other spiders who understand spanish in the scene).

The thing is puto is literally a cuss word in Spanish-speaking countries. It can either mean a rude word for a coward, a prostitute, or a slur for a gay man. And puto in Filipino is just rice cakes 😋.

And so Miguel and the others thought you were cussing him when in reality you were painfully oblivious and unaware. And miscommunication and culture clash/shock.

Also, pasukan sa eskwelahan na naman 😭😭.

you were happily snacking on your favorite childhood classic snack, a steamed plump rice cake that you bought from your home dimension before heading over to HQ. as you were just minding your own business, stuffing your face with the delightful treat, miguel had noticed you being at peace eating. he looked at the box of assorted colored rice cakes, some were white while others were purple, with some having bits of cheese on them.

"whaddya got there?" he asked as he looked at the rice cakes you had with you. you stopped biting into the food and looked up at miguel with a bright smile. "ah, my favorite dessert snack from back home in the philippines." you explained. miguel nodded as he looked at you. "what's it called?" "ah, puto." you answered him with a sweet smile, which starkly contrasted with miguel's contorted wince. "um... come again?" he asked you in a softer voice this time. "ah, i said it's called 'puto'." you repeated, but miguel staggered backwards a little as he was still in disbelief that he heard what he thought he heard. you handed him a piece, asking him to try it. "i love having some puto in my mouth, y'know? it fills me up just right after a long day." you said with a sigh of contentment as you dug into the rice cake again, smiling widely as miguel looked at the snack and back at you, unsure if he's comfortable with saying the snack's name.

he took a bite and could agree with you, the snack certainly was delicious... though the name kind of made miguel a little taken aback. he does respect that you and your people call it as it is, he'll just remind himself it isn't a dirty word, it's the name of this quaint little dessert that you loved dearly in this context. but if he's being honest right now, he doesn't wanna think at the moment, he just wants to savor the goodness of this snack you really love with you, regardless of what it was named.

aw, jungwoo said that this is the first time shownu has opened like this on the show and it's because of renjun. i think it's also a side effect of jungwoo being relaxed because he's with friends as opposed to guests who he's not as familiar with.

Attack of the PTA moms (Sergeant Hunter x reader)

I am so proud of the title lol. Also all of my Hunter fics are aus 🤷‍♀️ I am slowly making my way through my @clonexreaderbingo card. And as always, enjoy 💕

Prompt: "Do you trust me?"

Warnings: gn reader, modern au, mean PTA moms, unwanted flirting, implied infidelity, mentions of sex.

Note: the word cousin in this fic is being used as a gender neutral version of aunt or uncle

"Dad!" Omega yelled.

"Yes?" Hunter yelled from upstairs.

"Dinner's ready!"

"I'll be down in a minute!"

He stood up from his desk, stretching as he did so. He'd been working all day, opting to work from home because Omega was off from school.

Hunter jogged down the stairs.

When he turned into the living room he saw Omega sitting on the couch. She had a plate in hand with some pizza on it. 

Hunter walked past her, ruffling her hair as he went. 

He grabbed his own plate and placed a few slices of pizza on it. He then grabbed a can of soda from the fridge. He went back to the living room and sat down next to his sister, now daughter. 

"So, what are we watching tonight?" He asked her.

"I don't know. What do you wanna watch?"

"Chef's choice."

Omega happily opened Netflix and chose the movie The Glass Onion, a movie that had been high on their watch list for a while. 

"Did you get your homework done?" Hunter asked as the opening of the movie played.

Omega nodded, her mouth full of food. Hunter didn't press, she was always very on top of her work.

"OH! Don't forget that the bake sale is on Friday. Makenzie's mom said that you were in charge of bringing cookies."

“Alright, thanks for the reminder, kid. I’ll be sure to make those.”

“Thanks Dad!”

Hunter smiled. He was still getting used to Omega calling him dad, but it made him all warm knowing that Omega was comfortable enough to call him that.

Friday came and like every school function, Hunter forgot to make the cookies. So, he just bought them from the store on his way to the bake sale. He knew he’d get judgemental looks from the PTA Karens, but he’s busy providing for his family. 

He walked into the school’s cafeteria, where the fundraiser was being held. There were a lot of PTA moms buzzing about, preparing for the event. There were also a couple of volunteers that Hunter had never seen before. Probably forced to be there by the PTA president at the fear of social ostracization.

“Oh, Hunter!” A shrill voice called.

Hunter silently cursed. He turned around and plastered a fake smile on his face as Karen and her groupies approached him.

“Hey, Karen. Where can I put the cookies?” He politely asked. 

“Oh…Store bought again? I thought you’d put more effort in this time, Hunter.” Karen mocked, fake niceness in her voice. 

“Well, you know…got really busy at work…”

“Well, if you perhaps if you spent more time with your family-” “Omega and I spend plenty of time together. We eat dinner together every night, and we eat with my brothers at least once a week. Just because my life looks different than yours doesn’t mean it’s worse.” Hunter bit back. 

“I know, but-”

“Where do you want the cookies, Karen?”

Karen frowned (at least as much as her botox would allow). She pointed towards a folding table with two people standing there, arranging the contents of the table. Hunter gave one last glare to Karen before brushing past her to get to the table.

You were organizing the cookie table, trying to make it nice but easy to see everything. You were not really paying attention to what was happening around you, keeping your head down to avoid the wrath of one of the PTA moms. You were brought out of your focus when a handsome man practically slammed a grocery bag with cookies onto the table. It caused you to jump.

“Ahh, sorry. Didn’t mean to scare ya,” he apologized. “Karen is just… frustrating.”

“I understand. She’s something.” You agreed, picking up the bag he put on the table.

“I just just don’t get it. What kind of sick joy does she get out of criticizing my life!”

“Makes her feel better about her miserable life.” Hunter chuckled at the joke. It was always nice to hear the gripes of other volunteers. It was a moment of bonding over the shared hatred.

“She is very…rude to everyone outside of her posse.” Hunter huffed.

You gave a small smile at his comment, knowing that he probably wanted to use some stronger language. Hunter returned the smile as he properly looked at you. You were fairly attractive, and the clothes you were wearing were simple and practical yet still nice. He wouldn’t admit to checking for a ring on your finger, nor would admit to a strange feeling of joy at not seeing one there.

“But, we all have to put up with her,” You added. “She is the PTA president.”

“I hope she loses the next PTA election.”

“Don’t we all?”

“I’m Hunter, by the way. Omega’s dad.”

You gave him your name. “I’m Tina’s cousin, guardian now.”

“Cousin?” Hunter cocked a brow. In this school district, it wasn’t comen to see another single parent. Most of the moms would rather be in an unhappy marriage than face the shame from Karen for being a single parent. It was part of the reason most of the other single parents gave up in trying to help with PTA functions.

“Very long story.”

“Well, how about, I’ll give you my number. Then, you and I can, maybe, go get dinner sometime?” Hunter was surprised by his boldness, but his brothers did say that he needed to put himself out there. He hadn’t had a partner since, shit, highschool? No wonder his brothers had gotten more pushy.

Hunter was buzzing with joy when you gave him your number. He was smiling the whole drive home. He messaged you that night, and when you responded he felt butterflies in his chest. As the two of you talked, you both felt a strong bond grow, bonding over your shared experiences with the PTA. He also found that you both enjoyed movies and would send movie quotes and memes to each other.

However, Hunter didn’t see you again until it was time for another PTA fundraiser. Whenever the two of you tried to schedule that date, something always came up and one of you would have to cancel. 

Hunter was happy to participate in the fundraisers. He liked helping Omega’s school, but he could do without the judgment of the PTA moms. 

This time it was a small carnival. It had a couple of games, snacks, and two inflatables. Omega was looking forward to it. Hunter was dreading it. The idea of being surrounded with the chaos of a carnival was not something he was looking forward to. It would put his senses into overdrive. But, Karen loved torturing him. 

Hunter stood, grumpy look on his face, behind the folding table with an inflatable ring toss game on it. He was pissed when Karen set him up next to the gymnasium, where the inflatables were. He knew he was in for a long day.

Hunter was brooding over his torment, when he saw you walking into the cafeteria with Tina. Tina waved to her friends and ran over to them. You had a tight smile on your face as you scanned the room. You and Hunter made eye contact. You started to walk over to the table, when Brittney, one of Karen’s groupees, came up to Hunter’s booth. 

“Hello! I’m just making sure everything is going well for you,” She said, a somewhat flirtatious lit in her voice.

“Oh, it’s fine over here. I think all the kids are too excited about the bouncy houses to want to play games right now,” Hunter said.

“Well, kids are like that.” She gave a fake sounding laugh before reaching up to adjust her revealing top (something that was definitely not suited for a school fundraiser). “I was wondering though, you must be so stressed with all the work you do.”

“I-I try…” Hunter uncomfortably responded, noticing the flirtatious look in her eye.

“Well, if you ever need some…stress relief, I can-”

“Hunter!” You greeted, coming around the table. You threw your arms around him and hugged him close. He felt your breath fan against his ear as you whispered to him.

“Do you trust me?” You asked him.

Hunter looked at you, then nodded.

You turned back towards Brittney, a bright smile on your lips.

“I’m sorry, Brittney. But my partner here has all the stress relief that he needs. Maybe you should ask your husband before you ask someone else’s.” 

Brittney gasped, offended for being called out. She pouted and stomped off. You turned back to Hunter, who looked relieved to have the woman gone.

“I’m sorry for stepping in. I know she can be… pushy.” You felt kinda bad for stepping in when it wasn’t asked of you.

“No, it was welcome. It’s hard to get some of the PTA moms to stop with their flirting.” Hunter assured you. “But…since you called us partners when we’ve never been on a date…”

“Iamsosorry! Ididn’tmeantolablethings. Iwasjusttryingto-” He cut you off with a laugh.

“I was just going to say. That now is the time that I take you on an actual date. Just like I promised.”

You smiled at him, “What did you have in mine?”

“Well, that new Marvel movie is coming out this weekend. So maybe we grab some dinner and go to the movies.”

Could you please write a scenario in which Sam comes back from school (she doesn't know about Billy yet) and witnesses Christina's violent outburst towards Tara?

She can't believe it at first because her mother always treated Sam like a princess (we all know why), and Tara is known to be a "clumsy" kid. So, basically, her little sister lied to her about where the bruises come from, but WHY?! I can't answer my own question, and it's frustrating.

I imagine a larger age gap between the two sisters. Sam knows that her mother doesn't love Tara as much as she adores Sam, but the physical abuse always happens when she isn't around.

This will fit pretty well in my five years late AU! The age gap is 10 years, Christina loves Sam and treats her well (although Sam began pulling away once she discovered her father isn't her father - although she never learnt who was). Christina becomes pretty absent when Sam is 15 and their father leaves, but she's never been violent (to Sam's knowledge), or particularly mean to Tara... she just... doesn't care about her so much. She does the bare minimum, and Sam picks up the slack.

It's October, Sam's 18 and in her senior year, and usually she would be at basketball practice right now, except coach started throwing up 10 minutes into practice and sent everyone home. Sam's pretty irritated, all things considered. They didn't need coach there to train, and boy did they need to train. It seems like nobody practised over the summer, and Sam doesn't want to end her final year with as many losses as last year.

But hey, at least she'll get to spend an extra couple of hours with Tara today! Her sister's been upset lately about all the extra time Sam spends at practice now. It was the same last year, she seems to recall. But she got used to it before, and Sam knows she'll get used to it again.

Mom even bought Tara a soccer ball to kick around the garden, she said that her sister was probably just jealous that Sam's good at a sport. Sam can't say she's ever seen her sister touch it once, but mom says she uses it all the time when Sam's at practice, pointing to Tara's bruised legs and scuffed hands and knees. Then she complains that Tara's been kicking the ball against the kitchen wall, and tells Sam to remind her sister to behave herself.

So, Sam's not expected when she arrives home at 3.45 instead of 6pm. She sneaks around the back, hoping to catch her sister practising soccer - an activity Tara refuses to discuss with her but her mother assures her is happening - but finds only an empty backyard... and it sounds like her mother is yelling in the kitchen. It's pretty alarming to hear, mom rarely raises her voice, and it has Sam scrambling over the fence to pull open the backdoor.

It takes a moment for her to realise what she's seeing.

Tara's on the floor, crying, and crawling backwards, away from their mother. Her cheek is bright red, the indentation of fingers spread across it, complete with several scratches. And her mother is screaming at her. She's in the middle of "I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF YOUR PATHETIC C-" when Sam runs forward and involves herself in the scene.

"What are you doing?!" she cries, standing between Tara and their mother, hands held out as if to push her mother away.

The way her face goes from angry to calm in an instant unsettles Sam. It feels a lot like watching the theatre kids practise at lunch, the way they could go from happy to sad to angry at a click of the finger.

"Honey," she coos, putting a hand on Sam's shoulder. "You're home early?"

"Practise was cancelled," Sam answers warily. Her mother's avoiding the question. "What are you doing?" she repeats, looking over her shoulder to her sister. Tara's rubbing at her face now, breathing heavily through her hiccups to try and control her breathing. Sam frowns, she's going to need her inhaler.

"She was kicking the ball against the wall again," her mother lets out through gritted teeth. Sam can see fragments of frustration leaking through her mask. She knows there was no answer her mother could give that would make this ok, but she had still hoped for better than this. Something reasonable. Something that makes sense.

"So you hit her? Are you kidding me, what the fuck mom," she growls, shaking off her hand and turning to her sister. Sam picks Tara up off the floor, holding her to her chest, and stares down her mother as Tara burrows her face into Sam's hoodie.

"You have no idea what it's like, Samantha," her mother finally responds. "Trying to raise that girl. She's not like you, she's trouble."

Her mother's words floor her. Sam can't believe what she's hearing. She can't believe this is her mother saying these things, doing these things. Sam exits the room backwards, her head shaking the entire time.

Even once they're sequestered away in Sam's room, Tara won't talk to her, won't tell her what happened. She just stays curled into Sam's side, sniffling. Sam has the nagging feeling that her mother wasn't telling the truth. The football's always in the same place every time she sees it, today was no exception. And if that was a lie, then... where did the bruises come from?

Sam has to choke back the nausea. Her sister needs her right now.

She quits basketball the next day.

When was the last time you admired some flowers? What kind/color were they? I don't know. I don't really...stop for things like this anymore; and it feels sad saying that out loud. In any case, I haven't admired flowers at least since May, when I was looking at the ones I bought my mom and grandma for Mother's Day.

I never ever thought I’d be in a place where I vastly prefer an ereader to physical books in most situations…it really creeps up on u. I bought mine used in 2020 bc the libraries were shut down and I got kicked from student housing and all I had was the terrible 00s ya and stuff in my childhood bedroom and was like ugh this sucks I miss paper books. But over the years I’ve started using it more and more due to being w/o a massive public library system with 50 branches like I grew up with… and unfortunately it rocks so much to a) have hundreds of books on me at all times b) adjust the font c) read in a completely unlit room when I’m overstimulated or tired or in a car or overstimulated or ready to go to bed immediately d) keep it on me whenever. fits in the pockets of mens garments e) trick my brain into thinking I’m getting lazy screen time when I’m actually on a book. Tricking your phone into thinking you’re a book when actually you’re your parents etc f) that one time I wanted to read an Amish romance bc I thought it was really funny I could do that without having to physically hold an Amish romance book in public lol aaaaaaaaaaand perhaps my favorite feature of all: g) hold down on the word to get an instant definition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Literally I still read paper books (when I can get a copy of the one I want without waiting 4-6 weeks bc it required an interlibrary loan from across the state (using up the like two cents of funding the republicans deign to give the libraries down here) or has a waiting list 100 miles long in the county system) and really like them but it’s kind of crazy to see people’s opinions be so staunchly physical book oriented bc I used to be the EXACT same way and thought I’d never ever stoop so low as to use a cold soulless electronic device. Okay so first song I put on the playlist was Black Friday by Tom Odell. There were just certain lines in this song that just stood out to me and reminded me of more so Loki’s pov, like

Idk it just stood out to me and kinda reminded me of their earlier days and also the lyrics “I wanna better body, I want better skin, I wanna be perfect” just gave me Loki vibes too, and then “You look so pretty, Pretty like the wind, Every time you touch me I feel adrenaline” makes me think of Loki’s pov of Tony. BUT THEN the part of this song that really got me was towards the end “It's all in my head, Who do I trust? I thought that you loved me, What is happening to us?” Like not only is it the lyrics but it's like the desperation of how he sings that part just reminds me of Loki’s obsessiveness and possessiveness over Tony and that part just makes me think of their big downfall after Tony’s first escape attempt (and his second attempt too probably). Like the emotion and devastation and betrayal at that point of the song just really made me think of them and their downfall.

Next song! Letter to an old poet by boygenius. This one gave me more Tony pov vibes. Especially during their downfall era. A lot of the lyrics remind me of them like, “I said I think that you're special, You told me once that I'm selfish, And I kissed you hard in the dark In the closet.” This just reminds me of them in general. And then “You think you're a good person because you won't punch me” reminded me of Tony’s thoughts when he found out Loki manipulated him into trying to escape to show he won’t punish him. And then the lyric “And I love you, I don't know why I just do” He loves him… he doesn't know why :( “But you're not special, you're evil, You don't get to tell me to calm down you make me feel like an equal but I'm better than you and you should know that by now” this just really made me think of Tony’s pov of Loki in their dark days before Loki let him go.

Next is Bite the Hand by boygenius. This just reminds me of Tony's pov before Loki let him go or maybe after his escape attempt. “I can't love you how you want me to” just fit really well for them I thought. Loki wanted love so bad he bought it and Tony couldn’t love him the way Loki wants him to :( “Who do you think you are? Who do you think I am? What do you wanna say? What do you think will change? Maybe I'm afraid of you” This just really fit Tony's pov in my opinion. And then the lyric “I'll bite the hand that feeds me” Also fit his pov to me.

Next is Liquid Smooth, I don’t really have a in-depth dive into this one I just added it in because it reminds me of both of their issues with sex.

Next up is tolerate it by taylor swift. This one hurt lol. To me it’s Loki’s pov in those last few years in Asgard where Tony was cold and distant and ignoring him and being a pretty bad dom to him. “I sit and watch you reading with your head low, I wake and watch you breathing with your eyes closed, I sit and watch you, I notice everything you do or don't do, You're so much older and wiser, and I, I wait by the door like I'm just a kid”

Like c’mon. This reminds me of Loki describing how those last few years in Asgard were for him.

Hi I would like a ship request for tbb please :) I'm a 22 year old girl I have shoulder length dark brown hair with red highlights. How I dress is either kind of a basic androgynous look like T-shirt/sweatshirt and jeans or kinda sexually charged feminine look, when I'm in the mood to put in an effort with my outfit I typically like to feel sexy. Lots of really tight tank tops and crop tops. Most of my wardrobe is black, I'm a tiny goth at heart but I wouldn't say it reflects so much on my outer appearance as it once did.

I love watching movies + TV shows, it's probably my favorite pastime I rewatch stuff a lot (like I got paid for rewatching Grey's Anatomy or any marvel movie with Bucky Barnes and I could've probably bought a house by now). Hugely into all the nerdy franchises, super heroes, Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who. I love to bake and paint in my free time. I like to read but don't get to as often as I would like because I need utter silence to concentrate or my ears like to hyper focus on literally anything else that is around me 🙃. I'm very soft spoken in group settings, I find it difficult to get in my piece, I get cutoff most times so I tend to just listen to conversations. I do like to be a person that others think they come too if they need to rant about anything but I also get wildly uncomfortable when people cry around me, unless we are like super super close. I do have a bit of maternal instinct and like babies and younger children but do not mistake that for me wanting my own kids. Not gonna happen. Animals only please lol. I like to be helpful were I can but please also be hyper specific with your needs because I will stress about if what I am doing is right or even at all helpful. I love to give gifts. Giving someone something special or thoughtful and seeing them light up brings me the most joy in life. Even if it's as small as like a cupcake if they get any kind of joy out of it I feel that joy too and it makes my heart happy. I can be very snippy and sarcastic especially if you are acting the same way with me. I'll end that here, thank you for your time. ❤️

Tech!

As I'm sure we've all figured out by now, Tech is a Nerd(tm), so being able to learn about your interests fascinates him. He never got to watch movies or TV shows on Kamino; if he wanted to hear a story, he either had to hear someone else tell it or he had to make it up himself. However, now that he's with you, there are so many things for him to watch!! And to make it better, watching new things allows him to spend time with you? Win-win! Just be aware, he will multitask while watching; he just needs to do something with his hands at all times.

Baking with Tech is something you both enjoy as well. Tech much prefers baking over cooking because it's much more exact, and the directions tend to be a lot more specific- something he does well with. He researches new recipes that he wants to make with you, looking up multiple versions to see what techniques work the best, which ingredients to use, etc. so that the final product is the best it can be. Sometimes Tech takes baking a little too seriously, so you might have to reign him in a little bit and remind him that this is a relaxing activity.

When in social situations, you and he tend to stay close together. Depending on the topic, Tech most likely won't have a ton to offer up, so you and he end up sitting and listening to others talk, sitting there and enjoying the company. Sometimes Crosshair will join you, but other times, he needs space to be grumpy. However, whenever you eant to say something and can't seem to get a word in, Tech will make the others stop so that you can talk. It was a little embarrassing at first, but it soon became a habit, because if anything, Tech wants to make sure his loved one is able to express themself fully.

the most specific outfit piece ive looked 4 was a leather harley davidson halter top which i found THIS YEAR after abt a year n 1/2 of watching ebay listings n waiting but usually i try not to focus too much on super duper specific items of clothing cuz ill get fixated n do nothing else BUT look 4 it ... most of what i like is just casual clothing, jeans, tank tops n shirts cuz i do literally 3 things: eat, sleep, thrash, repeat. kidding LOL but i really just like being comfy. i do have a couple pieces like my beloved harley top tht i bust out 4 parties n that sorta thing (wore it when i played my last show lol) but other than that ... i am kickin it in my dirty ass sneakers jeans n a tank top LOL !! i always always always keep my eyes peeled 4 things tht remind me of my favorite parts of fashion from the 70s n mid/late 2000s (well like. 2003-12 tbh its not exactly pure mid 2000s cuz of my love 4 jersey shore n their clothes) !! that being said. the top 3 like...pieces im always keeping an eye n an ear 2 the ground (ebay) 4: (read more cuz there r pics <3)

hahah well TJ.. as you know you've been very influential when it comes to ships - especially for Naruto. First one that comes to mind is KakaGai, but there's also YamaSai and KankuSai and ShikaCho. All of them I still love <3 Also, thanks to you I shipped GaraShir before I even watched the show. And there are just countless ships from other fandoms that I'm not (really) a part of that I have a soft spot for, because you sell them so well :))

I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?

Errr I guess you could say HP? But that's not Tumblr's fault - all it did was share the messed up things Rowling said and did and gradully all of the moments HP got tiny kid me through rough and lonely times started feeling like a very big lie and I can't even think of it fondly anymore.

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?

Oh gosh, so many, but let's go for Fjord from Critical Role. All the little and big steps he takes towards learning to accept himself throughout the campaign and the way they don't come all at once but are spread out over like a hundred plus episodes, including inevitable steps backward. The strength it took for him to walk away from the one who gave him conditional power and to accept unconditional love that is extended by his friends and the Wildmother. His arc just makes me so emotional and happy every time I think about it. I love him and I love his journey and I cannot wait to see it animated.

M - Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend.

Yamato from Naruto seems like a perfect friend. He's kind and loyal and usually a reasonable, level headed person who can calm you down in stressed situations. But he's also someone you can have fun with!

N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).

For Saraiya Goyou: 1) anyone other than me making stuff for it lol. Usually I don't mind it so much, but sometimes I almost desperately wish I would see the tag update and it's not something I made. 2) drawings and fics from the past are mostly for Yaichi and Masa. I'd love more art and writing for other characters and pairings (romantic or otherwise) 3) sneakily shared fan translations of the prequels and spin-offs would be great lol. They're never going to be translated officially, but scans are taken down immediately as well. I bought Futagashira but I have no way of reading it unless I learn to read Japanese myself ^^;

Shuffle produced Pulling Teeth by Green Day. "I'm all busted up, broken bones and nasty cuts, accidents will happen, but this time I can't get up." That's definitely Meg and Zagreus from Hades. They beat each other up on a regular basis lol and I was so bad at this game in the beginning I got Zag killed by her a lot (sorry Zag..) Not top 10 ship for me, but I like them well enough!

U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.

1) Matsu from Saraiya Goyou: during my first reread the manga, after I learned that he loved Yaichi, I fell in love with him through his subtle and heartbreaking expressions. That's when I really got to know and understand him more. I love that he's charming as can be for his job, but doesn't know how to behave around his friends. He's so skilled and he knows it, yet has such a low self esteem. He's just a highly skilled, very pathetic little grumpy guy that deserves all the love in the world. And I give him as much as I can. 2) Caduceus from Critical Role: perfect, big, chill cow man who has the best advice and calming words for others, but can't recognise his own problems, let alone how to deal with them. He's so dumb and wise and I love him. 3) Gerry from the Magnus Archives: he's one of those people that seems to be full of contradictions. He's so bitter and stubborn and impatient and crude, but in a way that feels friendly? His life was so full of grief and horror from the moment he was born and he just wants a break from it all, but at the same time he can't stop himself from helping people who are about to fall - or have already fallen - victim to the horrors. The fear and defiance he lived (and died) with is heartbreaking and admirable.

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance

Ok! so this review is for the first game that I actually started and finished in the new year. Yay! When I stumbled upon the last game I wrote a review for, I had actually been looking for this one: 

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance was one of the first video games I’d ever touched in my life. I didn’t even learn it was a spinoff until I’d accidentally bought the mainline game two years ago and was supremely confused. Needless to say, I was really excited to see if this held up to my expectations. Now, this game is part of a kind of set of very similar games that were released by snowblind studios all around the same time, so BG:DA2, as well as the two similar games that take place in the Everquest universe, the first and second Champions of Norrath games. But this one is all D&D 3e babyyyy. Now Im not going to spend this review sucking up to WotC obviously, but it is very charming to re-play a game and see all the references I had been missing as a kid. I thought beholders were as well-known as dragons, lol. 

Now I know that the game has been, in recent years, re-released, so lets talk about what I like about it and see if it’s a worthy way to go on a little early 2000s fantasy nostalgia trip. 

First lets talk about your characters. You get a quite limited selection of three characters with pre-selected names and classes. You can also unlock Drizzt Do’Urden in the character select screen but i didnt know so I played as the elf Adrianna, and my 2P played as... human archer. whose name I forget. each of them has the stats and abilities you would expect, ie. the sorcerer starts with high int and low str, and can cast magic missile. Part of the great fun of the game is finding new weapons and armor to upgrade your character with, but seeing as the game is locked to the basic loot tables in D&D 3e, the loot is a lot more boring than I remembered. You’ll mostly get a couple of weapons worth clinging to over the course of the game, and sell everything else. But hey! at least the woman armor looks respectable. Before I get started rambling about the gameplay, you might be interested to know that the music is done by the infamous jeremy soule so if you want some very morrowind-esque vibes, you can always give it a listen: ( x | x | x )

Okay so gameplay stuff. The game is set up in a bunch of dungeons where you look down from above and you go from “room” to “room” (they arent all literal rooms) and you clear out all of the enemies. Its quite cute, it does remind me of a miniature in a model set. Enemies dont respawn, so there IS a limited quantity of experience in the game. You can load characters from past playthroughs if you want to start out beefier, and this is recommended if you want to play the harder difficulties. Its also important to keep that in mind when youre playing with more than one person, because if youre always getting the kills, your player 2 will fall behind quickly. 

The game has some kind of clunky controls, I really hate how difficult it is to switch spells (you have to use the D-Pad and they give you like forty empty spell slots lol). This issue is especially bad compared to the way that champions of norrath handles it (basically offers you hotkeys, its way better). We also found that the archery was a lot less.... fun than just melee bonking bc there are really limited projectiles. by which I mean its just arrows. plain ol arrows. Also there arent any rings around the feet of your character to help differentiate P1 from P2 so i kept walking into walls. Its not helped by the fact that the gameplay is v simplistic hack n slashy so your eyes kind of glaze over sometimes. 

Another thing of note, which I never really noticed as a kid, is how front-loaded the game is. In the beginning of the game, youre completing a questline attached to the Elfsong tavern, and every once in a while, when you stop at the tavern to buy new weapons, someone will show up to give you a new quest. The quests were always part of the linear plot, so they didnt change the shape of the game at all, but they made the world feel more interesting. By the time you step into the second chapter of the game, the world begins to feel more flat and less and less named npcs pop up to chat with you. It ends up making the game feel really lonely. The NPCs that DO exist are animated quite well for a 2001 game, though, and I was really struck by their individually moving fingers which really helped them feel very emotive, which was underlined by the way that NPCs take up the whole screen when you talk with them. 

having a sexy bartender in the first five minutes of your game helps keep the audience engaged. 

Its a quite short adventure, it took my partner and I about a week to play all the way through and honestly? By the end I was mostly just kind of excited that I can move on to the second game now and see how much better it is. I think that the game is OK, but should you pay $30 new for it? NO. you can get ps2 copies used for $10. and if youre interested in playing BOTH of the games (and/or the champions games as well) i’d just.... buy a ps2. This game is very imperfect and leaves a lot to be desired. I would not recommend it to everyone, but I would recommend it to anyone craving a classic campaign but doesnt have a party. It does scratch the D&D itch but its not the best of it’s kind. That being said, if your time is limited, I’d say that most people would prefer the Champion’s games to this one.
