MARVEL Headcannon #5:

President Loki is the result of Odin banishing Loki to Midgard instead of Thor.

Basically, Thor started the war, but Loki got thrown under the metaphorical bus and got banished under the condition of Thor having to prove himself worthy of having his sibling by his side again, and then Loki could return.

Of course, Loki, being Loki, took the first opportunity they could find to blend in and eventually amass power. It got to the point where eventually, Loki found themselves running for president against one Steve Rogers (who took one look around when he woke up and decided, if no one was gonna get their stuff together, he'd do it himself dammit, cuz if a literal alien could do it, so could he) completely by accident. But of course, Loki, being Loki, made that election one for the history books.

There's 2 versions of this singular timeline. One where Steve Rogers wins, and one where Loki wins (that's the one that got pruned) and its comedic gold.

By the time Thor proves himself worthy and Odin allows Loki back in Asgard, Loki has already established a pretty solid life for themselves, out of Odin's and Thor's shadows, so now they all have to convince Loki to come back to Asgard.

Talk it Out (Steve Rogers x Gender Neutral Reader)

This is inspired by the Tony vs. Steve debates arising when Civil War premiered. I believe both were at fault—but what if there was a voice of reason who diffused the situation?

Summary: Being related to the genius Tony Stark had many benefits, but being stuck in an argument between him and your fiance, Steve Rogers, was never anticipated.

Being a Stark had its fair share of perks: a hefty bank account, influential power, looks that turn heads. But what the public was unaware of was the messy family drama, courtesy of Howard Stark. Despite the world applauding him as a genius inventor, at home, he was anything but wonderful.

Work seemed to be his one true love, leaving little room for the whole parenting gig. Affection and care for his kids, especially m/n, were as rare as a unicorn. And when the Stark siblings were paid attention, it was mostly due to the public image Howard wanted to construct as a loving father.

So, when Tony decided to start flying around New York as Iron Man, m/n wanted nothing to do with it. Don't get him wrong, m/n loved his brother, but staying out of the limelight gave m/n the peace they longed for since childhood. No image they had to uphold nor expectations they needed to live up to, m/n was content spending their remaining days working on the numerous charities and foundations Stark Industries supported.

M/n wasn't interested in the media at all, but he guessed being related to Tony Stark and dating fellow Avenger, Captain America aka Steve Rogers would throw that plan out the window.

Their relationship with the Captain had been a surprise to all; meant to be kept a secret from the public, with only the Avengers and Tony (obviously) knowing. However, when a picture leaked of them holding hands, the world went crazy.

With everyone, even news channels, speculating the nature of their relationship, it was m/n who ultimately decided to clear up rumors. Yes, they were dating Captain America, and what about it? The world had bigger problems than worrying about stranger's love affairs.

So, even if the public knew about their romance, m/n withheld that they were also engaged.

But as m/n said, the world had bigger problems. And indeed they had. After a failed attempt by Loki to take over the world, alongside Ultron's failed destruction of said world, their plate was full. It didn't need unnecessary drama thrown into it: like Steve and Tony bickering due to the recently written Sokovia Accords.

"You're being irrational!"

"Sue me Rogers for wanting to protect the world."

Rolling his eyes, m/n didn't understand how a friendship like Steve and Tony's was being destroyed over something as stupid as the Accords. If he was being honest, both men were acting like children.

"Can't you guys just talk it out?" M/n spoke, sitting up from his seat to glare at his brother and fiance. "I know Tony's a drama queen—"

"Hey!"

"But I expect better from you, Steve. Now, I'm going out with Pepper for lunch. When I return, you better have resolved this or else." Kissing both men's cheeks, m/n left the room. Looking at each other, Tony and Steve thought the same thing.

'M/n is scary when they want to be.'

So, I’ve read a lot of your meta about the MCU(which is phenomenal btw) and I was wondering: Why are people so good at analyzing some characters, but as soon as it comes to characters like Steve or Loki, it’s immediately “Steve is boring” or “Steve was arrogant” or “Loki’s just evil?” I’ve seen a lot of this come from fans on all sides, and it’s kinda confusing why they would think that when their faves are just as morally gray as the examples mentioned above.

I think it is the dissonance of complex characters and straightforward characters. Steve Roger Captain America similar to Superman is straightforward character, they do good out a sense of altruism. That's not to say they aren't complex, a closer look will show plenty of nuances, but what the do and why they do it tends to be more apparent. When people think "complex " it what they usually think is some one who is dark and tormented and not someone who has themselves together. Captain America does break rules, he does have his flaws but when he does a bad thing for a good reason he's tends not to put anyone at risk. People are really drawn in by dark, or morally conflicted characters and I think the see it as boring when a character isn't like that.

On the other end there is that take on loki that he's just evil and personally I think a lot of that comes down to the mindset of, character is complex/and and therefore justified or excusable in their actions, VS a character is inexcusable therefore they can't be complex. The fact a character doing things for sympathetic reasons but still being wrong isn't what people go for so they ignore the sympathy.

Moral greyness is not the end all be all of complex characters. There can absolutely be character that are just good or just bad and still be nuanced.

Favoritism is also a factor. It can be easier to talk about a character you are personally in and think about a lot

Yeah, yeah, it's not finished and all that, but consider this! I love warlord Geralt fics, and I love witcher Jaskier fics, and I just really, really wanted to see these two ideas smooshed together

“Buck,” Rogers interrupts, appearing next to them. “You ready to go?” “Just a minute, Stevie,” Bucky says smoothly. “Just wanted to see if Tony here wanted to know what it’s like to be appreciated.” Tony is half-expecting Rogers to say something about him being Obie’s omega, but instead, he gives him an appreciative onceover and then says, “Does he know we come as a package deal?” Tony’s brain shorts out at the suggestion.

I've never written a military AU before! This one was a lot of fun, and I loved getting to write the differences in the stuckony relationship vs the obie/tony relationship, plus getting to play a little more with gender biases in omegaverse fics than I usually do.

I Bet You Think About Me

The breakup wasn’t amicable. Steve had always liked most of Tony’s friends. He’d gotten along well with Rhodey and Bruce and Pepper and Natasha. He’d even gotten along reasonably well with Happy, who didn’t like anyone other than May. It had been the other side of Tony’s friend group that Steve hadn’t liked and who had, ultimately, been the wedge that broke them apart.

I don't usually write bitter Steve, but this was a lot of fun to play around with. It was a challenge trying to keep Steve still Steve while also making him angry at the way things ended between him and Tony.

Captain America vs Soldier Boy!

Conditions:

MCU Cap. TV Show Soldier Boy. Cap does not have Mjolnir.

Scenario:

Vought International has gotten its hands on the Tesseract, so the Avengers have been sent in to retrieve it. The Boys had the same idea and go in with Soldier Boy. Soldier Boy and Cap meet up and fight over who gets the Tesseract.

Analysis: Captain America

Steve Rogers was once a normal man living in Brooklyn during the dawn of World War 2, desperate to join the army because "I don't like bullies, I don't care where they're from". Unfortunately, his plethora of health conditions kept him from qualifying. Realizing the boy had a pure heart, Abraham Erskine subjected him to an experimental super soldier serum to turn him into Captain America, The First Avenger.

In his final mission, Captain America seeming sacrificed his life by crashing a plane full suoer charged nukes into the arctic, only to be dug up years later and brought to the 21st Century. Now stuck desperately searching for a purpose in a world that seemingly left him behind, Cap joined the Avengers to protect the world from all sorts of threats, ranging from aliens to robots to even SHIELD itself, before leaving to rescue his mind controlled best friend and dividing the Avengers into Civil War. All throughout, Cap proves himself to be nothing less than the perfect soldier.

Even on a team full of gods, geniuses, and master assassins, Cap manages to keep up with his mastery of hand to hand combat, photographic memory, and excellent tactical mind. Steve led the team to victory against the otherworldly alien invaders the Chitauri, fought hand to hand against the God Loki and the master assassin the Winter Soldier, and unearthed a plot by neo nazi organization Hydra to take over SHIELD from within. Moreover, Cap's healing factor allows him to power through gun shots to the gut, survive being frozen alive, and drink Asgardian beer that Thor claimed wasn't safe for mortals.

Steve is strong enough to pull down a helicopter with one arm, skilled enough to fist fight an air craft and win, and tough enough to contend with Iron Man's Mark 46 armor. This armor would be much tougher than the suit Tony wore in Iron Man 2, which could create a massive explosion between him and War Machine. Dividing the result to account for the combined effort and each suit would be generating and tanking energy equivalent to 171 tons of TNT.

He's even fast enough to take down MCU Spider-Man, whose fast enough to compete with The Amazing Spider-Man verse Spider-Man, who can dodge lighting traveling at Mach 1514.

But none of that competes with the Captain's strongest weapon - his shield. This vibranium metal disk can absorb and reflect almost any attack thrown at it and bounce off of anything. Cao uses it as a super frisbee to knock targets out of the air, cakculating its velocity in his head so that it always ends up right back in his hand. It can even take hits from Thor's hammer, reflecting a blast that completely leveled the forest around them. A 6 kiloton yield feat.

Finally, Captain America would take up Thor's hammer himself to lead the final charge against Thanos and his army, saving the universe from completely annihilation. Though the Avengers may go on, Cap will always be the remembered as the First Avenger.

Analysis: Soldier Boy

Before there was the Seven, before there was Homelander, before there were even Supes, there was Soldier Boy and his team of legendary Freedom Fighters, Payback. America's very first Superhero and one of the strongest Supes who ever lived, Soldier Boy was a beloved national icon and a war hero of World War 2.

Behind closed doors, Soldier Boy only became a hero to impress his abusive father and when that didn't work, he nursed his wounded pride by doing whatever it took to ensure he remained Vought's most popular superhero. This included keeping his team under his thumb, brutally beating them in sparring matches to remind them who was top dog, and crippling them when they dared to show any ambition. In one instance, he brutally beat Black Noir so badly, he was left scarred and crippled for the rest of his life, forcing him to wear a full body suit to cover his injuries, leaving him unable to speak, and giving him lifelong schizophrenia from the trauma of the event.

The abuse got so bad, Payback sold him out to Russia the first chance they got, setting him up to get captured in an undercover mission and allowing the Soviets to experiment on him for years. It wasn't until 2022 that Soldier Boy was found snd rescued by the superhero hunting group called The Boys for his help in taking down the most powerful superhero in the world: Homelander. Soldier Boy agreed, on the condition that The Boys help him get revenge on his old team for abandoning him.

Soldier Boy is an absolute juggernaut of a Supe. Although he's over a hundred years old, he hasn't aged a day past his thirties, thanks to the Russian's experiments giving him a whole new slew of powers. Years of torture have made him completely immune to fire, radiation, acids, and poisons, with only the deadliest substances on Earth being able to knock him out. And that's on top of being an expert combatant trained in military combat and hand to hand techniques. Soldier Boy carries a knife, a pistol, and a large titanium shield, each of which he uses proficiently in hand to hand combat to beat down his foes. While most of Soldier Boy's supposed war valor was faked, he was still skilled enough to go toe to toe with Billy Butcher, himself a war veteran and proficient superhero hunter. He heals from scarring injuries with superhuman speed and is tough enough to take on Homelander, the most powerful Supe who ever lived.

Soldier Boy's greatest power, however, is his radiation. Soldier Boy can charge up and shoot powerful radiation out of his body, usually by unleashing it as a massive explosion to obliterate everything around him. His radiation even burns hot enough nullify the powers of Supes. All Supes get their powers from the super soldier serum known as Compound V, with Soldier Boy's radiation vaporizing it in their bloodstream and leaving them an ordinary human.... provided they survive the blast.

Soldier Boy's explosions are so powerful, they can obliterate city blocks, with his biggest blast being big emough to be worth 69 tons of TNT. Nice.

For all his power and projected badassery, Soldier Boy is not invincible. He's as much of a misogynist as you'd expect someone from the 1940s to be and his internalized toxic masculinity and ego makes him refuse to acknowledge his flaws. His torture at the hands of the Russians has left him with severe PTSD that he refuses to acknowledge, with particularly bad episodes reducing him to a big walking bomb.

Eventually, he was deemed so unstable that the Boys turned against him, forcing Queen Maeve to nearly sacrifice herself to bring him down.

Soldier Boy is one of the most powerful, and most dangerous, Supes on the planet.

I think this one is pretty clear cut.

Soldier Boy's power nullification, by all rights, would be effective against Captain America due to his powers coming from a super soldier serum just like Vought's Supes. However, that relies on Soldier Boy getting a clear enough shot with his radiation to nullify him, where Cap has all the tools to keep that from happening.

Steve has both a considerable strength and speed advantage against Soldier Boy, being twice as strong and nearly 83x faster than the old war dog. Soldier Boy may have fought in World War 2, but Steve has gone in to fight planetary conquerors since then, and Cap's shield is so durable that Soldier Boy's will sooner snap in half than put a dent in it. This gives Steve all the room he needs to avoid Soldier Boy's destructive blasts and beat him down with superior skill, striking him from outside his range with shield throws and out maneuvering him at various ranges.

As Soldier Boy's frustration mounts, he'll become more explosive and more dangerous, bringing the battlefield down in top of them. This will be a footsy battle for Steve just for that alone... but Cap's solid foothold in every other field gives him all the advantages he needs to break Soldier Boy down.

Captain America is the First Avenger. Soldier Boy is just a cheap fucking knockoff.

how would you do 2012-era Winter Soldier Steve for Yonder AU Bucky-Cap

See, with this one it's less about WS!Steve, because the Winter Soldier doesn't play any role in the 2012 film there I'd not really thought about what he'd do. It's really the kind of thing that would get spurred into motion because now the Yonder Trio is there and Yonder!Steve is not going to rest until he gets this thing sorted out without the CATWS murder planes etc. Remember, Yonder!Steve is also Horizon!Steve, who came within a hair's breadth of getting Winter Soldiered and is still pretty significantly messed up by it. It was his personal private nightmare before Horizon, so finding out that there exists a universe where it actually happened back in 1945 is uh. not a fun time for him. (Well, if Endgame can do a Cap vs Cap fight...that's one thing I was really sad about not being able to fit into Yonder, either Cap vs Cap or Widow vs Widow -- I don't think Yonder!Loki punching out 2012!Loki counts.)

This is not precisely a BuckyCap even though he's in a Captain America uniform -- this is the thing I had to change yesterday once I started thinking about the base worldbuilding of the AU.

The divergence point of the AU is that Steve is the one who falls off the train in CATFA, not Bucky, and the events of CATFA in the broad strokes go naturally from there -- the assault on the Hydra base, the fight with Schmidt, Bucky going down in the Valkyrie and getting frozen. (Probably the actual details of the fight go differently, but broad strokes.) I generally put about a week between the train fight and the assault, to give the Howlies time to get back to London (with the "under twenty-four hours" being between London and Austria, I know some writers who ignore that entirely and put months between). Those events went differently -- while there's probably a sweet moment between Peggy and Bucky, both grieving, Howard very publicly and very dramatically blamed Bucky for Steve's apparent death, which is why Bucky is so prickly about Tony's mention of Howard.

(Steve going missing a week earlier than he did in canon did not make Howard any less obsessed with Steve. In fact, it probably made it worse, because the differences between falling from the train and going down in the Valkyrie mean that (a) Howard can blame people and (b) is even more convinced that ever that Steve survived, just no one is looking, don't they care? So that very slightly changes Howard's dynamics with everyone going forward. but also makes, you know, the murder in 1991 way worse. It does not improve Tony's relationship with his father or his Captain America issues.)

Bucky brought the shield back to the SSR after the train, but didn't take it on the assault, so for sixty-seven years it was just sitting in SHIELD's storage because no one knew what to do with it. Howard threw his weight around every time someone suggested making a new Captain America, backed up by Peggy, who had slightly more mixed feelings about it than he did but wasn't any happier about the idea either.

Fast forward to 2012, when SHIELD pulls Bucky Barnes out of the ice. They are more than a little startled, because they didn't know about the whole super soldier thing, but Nick Fury has Seen Some Shit so it's taken pretty much in stride. He doesn't get the stage show treatment that Steve gets at the end of CATFA, but otherwise SHIELD treats him pretty much the same until Loki shows up at Project Pegasus. Fury and Coulson haul him over to the helicarrier (less hero worship on Coulson's part, because he's a Cap fanboy, not a Howling Commandos fanboy) and present him with the shield and a nice speech about Steve Rogers' legacy.

Bucky tells them to fuck off, there's no power on this earth that will make him pick up that shield, and don't they dare say one word about what Steve Rogers would have wanted, they don't know anything about him. They are still arguing about it when Loki shows up at Stuttgart and Bucky has to go do the thing. He puts on the uniform (under protest), but won't take the shield. It is not the 2012 Cap uniform, but a different Captain America-inspired one that blends the Cap-and-Howlie aesthetics a little. (Presumably the three-way forest fight with Tony and Thor also goes a little differently, but it has the same ultimate result of everyone back on the helicarrier.)

The gang is having their regularly scheduled "you want to use the Tesseract to make weapons????" argument in the lab when the Yonder trio shows up. (Bucky does not go searching and find the WWII Hydra gear, because unlike Steve Rogers, he does not have border collie brain.)

I assume that even with Steve getting Winter Soldiered in this 'verse rather than Bucky, most of the Winter Soldier's history goes pretty much the same -- I don't think we know enough to say what might have actually gone differently if one switches them out for each other. (Except that Natasha might recognize Steve straight-off from their encounter in 2009, if he wasn't masked then.)

Stark Supremacy vs The Resistance or Avengers:Dissembled

Tony Stark’s suit of armor around the world phase goes into complete and full effect. Get the right event to trigger it and I think Tony could be sent into Superman mode where he establishes a regime for the world’s protection. Tony takes full control of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the world by force. Captain America would rise up and lead a band full of heroes who are willing to do what’s right and stop Tony Stark and the regime.

Final boss fight. We choose between either Cap or Iron Man. If we choose Cap, then we fight Superior Iron Man, if we choose Iron Man, then Cap.

Avengeance:Fall Of Midgard. A villain like Norman Osborn or Red Skull sneaking into Asgard with Loki’s help to kill Odin and Lady Sif. Events would manipulate the death of Jane Foster. Blaming Asgard and Midgard for not dealing with Loki and his associates for their many schemes, Thor decides to make changes. Thor is broken and the once Mighty son of Odin, turns back to his old ways and becomes a despotic king of Asgard. Thor wages war on Midgard. Years later Thor has taken over the entire world as well as Asgard, and rules it with an iron fist. Villains that don’t agree with him or opposes him are seen as threats are sent to the negative zone. All mutants are forced to register to work for the regime or be depowered permanently and imprisoned.

Final boss fight is Odinforce Thor.

The Illuminati decides they must take power in order to save the world and metahumans/mutants from themselves. Those who bow down are saved, the villains will be put under mind control or sent to the negative zone and those who oppose them lead a Resistance.

T'Challa is assassinated by S.H.I.E.L.D. and attacks Wakanda and Wakanda demands justice. Shuri is consumed by grief and vengeance and it doesn't help that Killmonger and M'Baku are there whispering in her ears demanding Wakanda invade and take over. It's the might of Wakanda vs the world.

AVX:Half the X-Men are sent away on a mission and when they are away, a SHIELD led by vile Anti-Mutant leaders bombs the X-Mansion, killing a lot of X-Men and innocent mutant children and then the bombing of Genosha Charles Xavier begins to realize Magneto was right this entire time, Mutants must rise up and take over. Hail HYDRA. Basically, It's Marvel's version of The Savage Time. HYDRA builds a time machine and Red Skull goes back in time and has American Nazis kidnap Steve Rogers and has Steve indoctrinated by Nazis, he infiltrates the super soldier program, becomes Captain America and then kills everyone involved. Captain America becomes Captain Hydra. Then our heroes see the effects of this new horrifying world. Hydra rules the world. Red Skull is the infinite Fuherer and Captain Hydra is his right hand. Eventually they are almost caught, but the resistance leaders Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson come to their rescue. Our goal is to go back in time and stop this nightmare from becoming a reality.

reiterating this poll is for fun, and while I’ll try to keep it organized, I am not going out of my way to make a tumblr poll bracket I’m doing in my free time 100% bias-free or 100% optimized.

I feel like this should go without saying but I do ascribe to the idea that some ships are inherently morally bad and deserve to be hated. I won’t post about all my opinions on the ships, but if a ship is predatory/offensive/has bigoted shippers I will join in calling it really bad, and I will not be accepting or starting anti/pro-shipper discourse here. it’s 2023, grow up and stop shipping incest.
