#loki head canon

Thoughts on the popular fandom take that loki never killed anyone pre thor 1?
Well, it's not my head canon, but I guess it doesn't make me roll my eyes too hard. I find it incredibly unlikely that Loki had never killed anyone before for two reasons: 1) Asgard is a warrior culture and we have canon references to battles that Thor and the W4 have been in. Occam's Razor here—it's reasonable to believe Loki fought in those battles too, even if he isn't explicitly mentioned. And 2) Tom Hiddleston does not play the battle on Jotunheim like it's Loki's first time killing someone. Loki is presented in that scene as a highly competent fighter.
"But Aurora!" you might say. "That was just the adrenaline! Later, killing someone for the first time would hit him!" And while sure, that may be true (I have never killed anyone or been in combat so I can't offer any firsthand experience), the popular portrayal of a soldier's first time taking a life is that it's a very difficult moment. If Loki was just caught up in the battle, driven by adrenaline, and we were supposed to believe it was his first time killing anyone, wouldn't Branagh have given us a scene of Loki struggling with that? Because we get quite a few scenes of Loki struggling with things after returning from Jotunheim...killing Jotuns in combat isn't one of those things.
If we're going to go down the "Loki never killed anyone pre-Jotunheim battle" road, let's think about point 2 for a second. What does that say about Loki that he's never killed anyone before, and suddenly he does, and it doesn't appear to bother him in the slightest? When we see that so many other things bother Loki quite a bit? If you want to head canon Loki as a sensitive soul who hates killing, you're actually undermining it by insisting Loki hasn't ever killed before.
And as someone who does head canon Loki as a sensitive soul who hates killing, my head canon is that he's been in multiple battles and wars, that he despises it, but that he's learned to shove those feelings down.
You know, now that I've written this whole thing, I think I'm rolling my eyes at people head canoning that Loki's never killed pre-Thor 1, after all.

So I have been playing a lot of Marvel Rivals this week and I would like to talk about the design choices for Asgard a bit and share some screenshots I took.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see they styled most of the "Yggsgard" outdoor map after the MCU version of Asgard. Really cool to just be able to walk around there. Of course, the areas used for battle have a really different layout and the interior design is also completely different from both the comics and the MCU.
Tumblr media
For example, this is what they did with the throne, which is more reminicent of what they did with Asgard in Ragnarok and after, which I personally dislike a bit. On that note, the infamous Loki statue also makes a return and there is a reward for destroying it. Fun fact: in the Jeff's Winter Splash Festival game mode, it is turned into an ice statue.
Tumblr media
Character design wise they take inspiration from both the comics and the MCU and add their own flair. I'm sure you've seen Loki's redesign already, but I wanted to show a picture of both Loki and Thor as kids that you can find in one of the spawn areas.
Tumblr media
Loki has the "Kid Loki" look from the comics (yes I know the show tried to retcon it, but I don't see OG!MCU!Loki wearing that outfit as a child, sorry comic fans). But that was definitely what young!MCU!Thor was wearing in one of the first scenes in Thor 1 and I think Frigga also looks more like she does in the movies. Odin visually seems a bit more like in the comics, though. So do with that information what you want.
Anyway, it's a ton of fun being able to just wander about Asgard. In the game it's been merged with Yggdrasil for some reason, which is why it's called Yggsgard. But still, I like how much inspiration they took from the MCU. Probably because it's design for Asgard is more iconic.

Something about Thor and Loki both being jealous of each other is so perfectly dysfunctional. It would create such a deep narrative.
Loki is jealous of Thor because he’s a firstborn and a trueborn, he’s a stronger warrior, he’s the ideal of Asgardian masculinity. Those are the traits that make Odin favour him.
Thor is jealous of Loki because he’s smarter intellectually and emotionally, he’s more talented in seiðr, he’d make a better king. Those are the traits that make Frigga favour him.
They hold their strengths close to the chest, never extending them to uplift each other. They are competing for their parents’ love, because they can’t be equal in their eyes. Someone has to be favoured, someone has to be neglected. This competition isolates them, the jealousy festers and poisons their relationship, they become estranged.
When their parents die, they talk to each other honestly for the first time in centuries and confess that they were always jealous of each other. No, it’s can’t be, it is I who was jealous of you, how could you be jealous of me?
They reconcile and turn their mutual jealousy into mutual admiration, because there is nothing to compete for. They learn to be with instead of against each other. They learn to use their strengths to protect each other’s weaknesses. They heal.

I HAVE ANOTHER VISION AND YES IT'S ALSO ABOUT GRAVITY FALLS BECAUSE THIS SILLY LITTLE SHOW HAS TAKEN OVER MY LIFE AND I'M GOING THROUGH THE HYPERFIXATION I DIDN'T GO AS A KID. Ok, so since Gravity Falls is a Disney show and Marvel is owned by Disney, that means a crossover could TECHNICALLY be cannon, right? Especially with all that multiverse stuff that happens in both. So, imagine Ford in an alternate universe finding the cave in Gravity Falls and finds the writing and goes like "wow, this is warning me that I shouldn't say this incantation aloud. Who am I to question such an ominous warning?" And then TVA kidnaps him because "that wasn't supposed to happen, you were supposed to say that incantation" so they send him in the Void. He spends the next 30-40 years there and becomes part of the team against Cassandra. I imagine he'd be one of the longest residents of the Void that have managed to survive and that he would have crossed paths with Cassandra more than once due to that. Maybe he's even come across the Lokis.
"*Gasps* Omg, Stanford Pines??? Now that is DEFINITELY a crossover I never saw coming. Damn, the fans were right, he really is daddy material." -Wade

sometimes i get reminded of source material and go "yeah, whatever loser, the Little Guy In my Head would NEVER" and then remember that the little guy in my head is not interpreted by me correctly on purpose and he would in fact, in canon, do that
(but the little guy in my head would NEVER)

There has to have been at least one person on the creative team for Loki that was like “hey if we do all this, it will look queer. Like very gay.” And they definitely shot that person down with the “not everything has to be gay” and the “we’re just trying to show a strong healthy male friendship! :)”
Bro warned them defo.
They defo didn’t listen.

Abt this funny post summing up tje avengers movie. Do u have meta on what loki was doing in the first avengers relating to "not actually wanting to win the battle of new york" idk
I guess I don't really have meta, because I don't really subscribe to that theory? At least not in the sense that you often see people talk about it, where he throws the battle on purpose. I guess what I think is that deep down, some part of him knew Thanos had brainwashed him. Maybe, subconsciously, he didn't fight to his full ability?
I guess an analogy would be like, professional sports players. Their job is to win games, but maybe their heart isn't totally, 100% in every game for whatever reason. Maybe sometimes they even want to be traded, which, obviously, they need to play well for another team to want them, but maybe their lack of commitment to their current team means they don't play to their full potential.
One of my head canons about Loki is how desperately he hates the idea of choice being taken away from him. So I don't think he would have purposefully lost the Battle of NY, because I don't think he would have wanted to admit that Thanos was controlling him in any capacity. He'd rather be a monster than have control over his own mind or actions taken away from him. This is covered pretty heavily in my fic Here, Here and Here, and to some extent in Afterimage, as well.
