Something about Thor and Loki both being jealous of each other is so perfectly dysfunctional. It would create such a deep narrative.
Loki is jealous of Thor because he’s a firstborn and a trueborn, he’s a stronger warrior, he’s the ideal of Asgardian masculinity. Those are the traits that make Odin favour him.
Thor is jealous of Loki because he’s smarter intellectually and emotionally, he’s more talented in seiðr, he’d make a better king. Those are the traits that make Frigga favour him.
They hold their strengths close to the chest, never extending them to uplift each other. They are competing for their parents’ love, because they can’t be equal in their eyes. Someone has to be favoured, someone has to be neglected. This competition isolates them, the jealousy festers and poisons their relationship, they become estranged.
When their parents die, they talk to each other honestly for the first time in centuries and confess that they were always jealous of each other. No, it’s can’t be, it is I who was jealous of you, how could you be jealous of me?
They reconcile and turn their mutual jealousy into mutual admiration, because there is nothing to compete for. They learn to be with instead of against each other. They learn to use their strengths to protect each other’s weaknesses. They heal.

Fic writer asks
See below the cut for my answers! :) Also, I did away with the numbering because formatting numbered lists is a pain in the butt.
How old were you when you started writing fic?
I was 12-13 when I first started typing them out and posting them online. When I discovered the world of fanfiction, something just...clicked for me. I've liked imagining scenarios for my favorite characters and worlds since I can remember having conscious thoughts. So, I was like: wow, there's an actual word for that imagination thing I do! And I'm not the only one who does it!
Where did you first post your fics?
Fanfiction.net.
What was your first fandom?
The Hunger Games.
What fandoms have you written for?
A bunch that I can't immediately recall, but here's an abbreviated list: Naruto, Harry Potter, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Attack on Titan, Percy Jackson, Kung Fu Panda, Kane Chronicles, The Hunger Games
Romantic or gen?
I enjoy writing romance more, and that's what I tend to gravitate toward as a reader of fics. But I can still appreciate an emotional family drama or a worldbuilding-centric fic. I'd say around 1/3 of my fics are gen.
Fluff or angst?
Angst with a fluff chaser. Otherwise, the fluff feels unearned. Without any fluffiness, the angst gets too heavy.
A fic of yours you think is underrated?
I totally understand why the audience for this fic is limited, but I'd submit my Hiashi Hyuga x Kurenai fic for consideration here. If that makes you curious, here's a link: Wildflowers for Hinata
What's the best summary you've come up with?
Hm, I have trouble deciding on one. I do like the summary I ultimately settled on for Bird in a Gilded Cage, after I went through a few iterations. Naruto was full of lies. Yet Neji wanted to believe him. And for years, he did. Desperate to marry Ten-ten, Neji discovers one bar in his cage will never bend - Hyuga only marry their own. Forced into loveless marriage with a stranger, he fights to free himself from the clan's gilded cage. But Neji learns people remain caged for a reason - because the price of freedom is often too high to pay.
What's the best title you've come up with?
Neji needs glasses - it's concise, and direct. The fic is about...Neji needing glasses but being a stubborn asshole who won't admit it.
Do you read your own fics for fun?
For sure! I've gotten so attached to some of my characters that I can't help revisiting their stories again and again. I think one mark of my improvement as a writer is that I willingly reread my work again and again, rather than avoiding it out of fear that I'll cringe.
What's an idea for a fic you've had that you'll probably never write?
Sasuke Uchiha and Arya Stark helping one another on their quests for vengeance and power. The parallels between these characters is so interesting to me, and calls out for exploration. Not by me, though. I don't have enough confidence in my Song of Ice and Fire knowledge to flesh this one out.
Post a sentence from your current WIP
This one's from the final chapter of Freefall:
The edge in Neji’s voice didn’t appear to faze Tenten, who rolled her brown eyes sidelong. Brown eyes that were the color of chocolate and just as intoxicating, bittersweet and forbidden. Strange – he’d never noticed that similarity before.
Do you post WIPs or wait until you're finished writing to post?
I lean toward waiting until I'm almost finished - around 80% through a first draft if it's a longer multichapter fic. I value having completed stories for my personal satisfaction, and for the sake of any readers who might get invested in one of my fics.
One-shots or chaptered fic?
Both! I've written both, and think each one offers its own rewards. I do have more oneshots posted, though - just because they're faster to write and complete.
What are some of your favorite tropes to write?
Forbidden love, arranged marriage, dysfunctional family, love triangles, infidelity, accidental baby acquisition, secret lovechild
What are you favorite characters to write?
Neji, Tenten, Rock Lee, Chiyo, my OCs - Risa Hyuga (branch Hyuga) and Jiro Sato (Neji/Tenten's child)
Have you ever or would you ever write a fic in first person POV?
I think it's odd that first person gets a bad rap in fanfic circles when so much original fiction is in first person. I enjoy reading first person and third person about equally, and I've written first person in fics. Second person, too, because the source material was written in second person.
Is there some headcanon you've included in more than one fic?
More than I can write out here, that's for sure! A short list: Hyuga clan only marries the extended family in most cases, Tenten hates radish pickles, Tenten's parents own a grocery store, Suna has cisterns carved in the cliffs to store water, the average branch Hyuga is loyal not only out of fear - but out of sincere conviction or love of family
What's the longest fic you've written?
Bird in a Gilded Cage - A Neji x Branch Hyuga OC fanfic with a Neji x Tenten vs. Neji x OC love triangle. Clocked in at 167k words including the three epilogue chapters.
What's the shortest fic you've written?
Hm, probably my first one, about Foxface from the Hunger Games reflecting on her death. I thought it was a novel at the time, when the entire thing was less than 300 words.
Do you have an abandoned WIP?
I have a bunch of fics in the graveyard on my Fanfiction.net profile. Younger me was terrible about following through on all the awesome fics I wanted to write, and most of my old multichapter fics never made it past a few chapters if that.
Pick out a random line from a fic you're really proud of
From Bird in a Gilded Cage:
A promise passed between them. Amaya would live with her head unbowed, free of the gilded bars that bound generations of Hyugas. So would her long-suffering mother and father.
What's the most personal fic you've ever written?
Tough question. I'd say Your Heart Beats On, because of the subject matter and emotional intensity.
What's the cringiest (affectionate) fic you've ever written?
My first fic, honestly. I was so proud of that thing, too.
What's your most popular fic?
Depends on how you define popularity. Bird in a Gilded Cage has the greatest number of kudos, views, comments and bookmarks. But it's also 50+ chapters, and is twice as long as my next longest fic. I think looking at raw numbers hardly offers a fair comparison to my other fics. My most viewed oneshot is Rising Waters - a Hunger Games smut fic written years after I'd last been active in the fandom as a teenager. Last I checked, my most kudosed oneshot was Walk You Home, a genin-era SasuSaku fic.
What fic are you proudest of?
Definitely Bird in a Gilded Cage. It was my first completed longfic, and the most challenging fic I've managed to finish.

There is some media zeitgeist stuff that irritates me. Maybe I'm atan age where a lot of stuff for the mainstream is just no longer written with me in mind (but I could argue that as a Gen Xr, non-indie work has seldom to never been written with me in mind, anyway.) I saw my own parents reach a point where we didn't like or relate to the same media anymore. But here are some trends I'm observing about a lot of media, that I just *don't enjoy.* 1) Everyone having some kind of deep-seated identity crisis and having to go on a deep dive into their psyche in the first season.  It's like we don't relate to characters anymore who don't need epic shit tons of therapy right off the bat, who aren’t falling apart in front of us. I'll use Star Trek as an example because it's an example of how identity issues were written before, vs how they're written now. Like, older Trek for example *definitely* explored issues of identity - but it showed more than told. We definitely knew, in older Trek, that certain characters were themed around identity - Spock, Worf, Data, every "fish out of water" character EVER - and that identity was portrayed as something that a character would have to explore for the rest of their lives. For that matter, identity quests and "who am I" are actually a fairly common theme in sci fi and fantasy and have been for all of my life. But now they're done in weird, ham-handed ways involving a lot of totally interiorized hand-wringing that's more believable of the young Tumblr users who are in fandom, than of 20something/30something action characters who have careers and adult lives. It's like a lot of people can't relate to characters that aren't as inwardly-focused and insecure as they are. And it makes a lot of works written this way, inaccessible to me as an older viewer. There's giving a character *inwardness*... but that can be done without burying a character's head really far up their own butt. (And some characters deal with their identity crises by focusing *outward.* I feel like "focus OUTWARD" may be a generational identity issue though. I feel like I was taught to find the answers to practically every identity quest I've ever had... by Finding The Others, by having life experiences and wins AND failures... not by trying to gaze into my navel and not by trying to find myself exclusively in fictional portrayals.) (I'm sorry I can't be more specific about this. It's just a trend I keep noticing.) 2) This tendency to assign every character a QUIRK, and then play those quirks into the ground. To me, that's just lazy. Something that annoyed me with the characterizations on Star Trek Discovery was how fucking ANNOYING so many human characters were; it's like they try so hard to make everyone an individual that it comes off like... a really bizarre kind of neurological tokenism. Like, there are ways you can portray human characters without leaning onto their most visible quirk or their neurodivergence. Characters are individuals with family lives, not collections of quirks and census data points, and even with actual differences, they’re still individuals.
3) Pro-monarchist messaging. Old Disney believe it or not was not as bad at this as post-2000s Disney is.  There were portrayals of tyranny and unjust rulership. 4) Writers and fans who are so convinced that they are progressive that you can't ever critique their fandom or their writing because it means you're attacking their progressiveness, and all other writing is automatically BAD, and anyone who dislikes their writing is BAD... yet they’re free to cancel at will and judge at will. They invariably are never as progressive as they think they are, and their writing won't be seen as progressive in 10 years, and a lot of the takes I've heard are actually horseshoe theory. In many cases it’s about making corporate monopolies bigger and more inescapable instead of ensuring a more robust and diverse ecosystem of creators.  5) Youth-targeted writing that deals with sexual orientation/gender issues by simply never having any central character in a romance at all... but that *could* be a reaction to "shipping," too. Maybe younger readers these days prefer to be free to pair their favorite characters off with who they see fit, rather than have the writer do it for them. But fuck!! Everything can't be a Choose Your Own Adventure novel or a game!   6) Every show or book has to be all things to all people in an increasingly throttled market instead of allowing for a diverse ecosystem of differing fan cultures. 7) Perfect Happy Families. Looking at you, Disney. I miss wicked stepparent tropes, tbh, because kids who experience child abuse or family dysfunction or a hard childhood deserve to see characters who overcome those things instead of being told they're imagining that all families aren't Perfect Happy Families. It's like we've gone deep into some Hayes Code, 1950s Network TV weirdness here... but without even being able to lean on the genres that *did* allow other kinds of portrayals (fantasy and sci fi). And it's especially egregious in Disney because in older Disney films, at least characters had the ability to enact change on their world in some way, but modern characters aren't. 8) Stories that basically take place inside a bottle. I feel like kids' works no longer tend to have the broad, sprawling landscape in which the kids can adventure. It's like our IMAGINATIONS are constrained! DREAM, PEOPLE. PEOPLE CAN STILL LEAVE THE HOUSE IN FICTION 9) WHAT CAME OF ADVENTURE STORIES? 10) A relatively recent trope of portraying young LGBTQ people as an urban pod of annoying, neurotic friends who all work at Whole Foods or as influencers, and have no other personality besides their identity and one assigned quirk. 11) A weird trope wherein a teenager is basically made king or queen (without it realistically being handled), or a 20something is just handed a senior command or managerial position. Sabrina, Star Trek,  I'm looking at both of you. And finally: It's like characters aren't believable anymore to average younger viewers unless they actually represent and validate the worldviews of young people who don't go outside, never leave their computer, and are trying to figure out who they are by looking through a keyhole or at the shadows on the Facebook wall of Plato's cave. The idea that your worldview is actually going to be *different* or that *you will be changed by knowledge?* That there is some kind of *call to adventure?* Pfeh. That seems to be gone. Even our adventure stories take place inside a bottle. It's like we're so deep inside the Matrix at this point that the only stories anyone can tell, are about being inside the Matrix. (Could "The Matrix" have even been written now?) Even "Harry Potter" portrayed a world in which magic had few stakes in the real world and most of the action took place within limited confines.

TGD Episode 3x10
In many ways, this episode delivered on the promise of the show’s pilot.
THE GOOD: Everything.  BRILLIANT writing, BRILLIANT acting.  Off the charts chemistry btw Glassman, Shaun & Lea.   It was the equivalent to a “Slap your mama” meal. (i.e. Why are they holding back when they could be this good? ) So much to unpack.  It reminded me of  “Unbelievable” on Netflix which is an enormous compliment. It brought up how the “good guy’s” ignorance/insensitivity to the victim’s experience/trauma ends up making the situation worse.  Someone on twitter compared Lea/Glassman to the devil/angel on Shaun’s shoulder at the gravesite scene. Completely disagree. Glassman urging Shaun to forgive his father/show compassion really undervalued the harm the CRIMINAL abuse & neglect had on Shaun.  Lea was Shaun’s victim advocate throughout, making HIS feelings her concern. And that’s how it SHOULD always be.
GLASSMAN AND LEA HOSTILITY:  It’s obvious Glassman’s unresolved issues with his daughter clouded his advice to Shaun (ultimately to Shaun’s detriment.) *HOWEVER*, I think they may also be biasing his view of Lea.  His quick tone shift when Lea called him “controlling” made me wonder if he’d heard the criticism from his daughter?  I LOVED the Lea’s family dysfunction reference bc the audience might’ve easily forgotten it and it was relevant to how she was behaving.   It would play not only into how protective she’d be of Shaun with his parents, but may also affect how she reacts to Shaun’s surrogate father’s treatment of him and HERSELF.   I think Lea got defensive w/Glassman bc his opinion matters to her and she struggles w/confidence to stick to her guns bc of her own family history.  It struck me when Glassman, Lea and Shaun were sitting around the bar table, they’re 3 ppl w/unhappy family relationships who could create a new support unit if Glassman & Lea would support each other.
GLASSMAN MEDDLING IN SHAUN/LEA: I hope the writers dig into Glassman/Lea so much more.  It’d not only boost their character development, but their dynamic affects Shaun/Lea greatly so I’m not sure Shaun & Lea can progress much until Glassman/Lea are dealt with.  I’m not sure many viewers recognize just how much Glassman has meddled into Shaun/Lea’s relationship.  If you think of all the ways he discouraged Lea from being involved romantically w/Shaun and his “you’ll hurt him, You know it. I Know it. “ before she started seeing Jake, and then the way he flip flopped on his advice to Shaun and now the way he’s pushing Shaun to be with Carly? Glassman is the anti cupid for Shea.  He’s just more subtle than the typical love obstructing mother trope.
SHAUN/CARLY - Shaun didn’t want her to go with him. He wasn’t going to call her.  The contrast in his comfort w/touch from Lea and Carly couldn’t be more stark.  I’m BEYOND ready for Shaun to realize Carly isn’t the one for him and for the PAINFULLY awkward Carly/Shaun make out scenes to be over. I fear there will be yet more. I saw on a TGD REDDIT thread ppl explaining diff. reasons why they dislike Shaun/Carly. I agree w/some points. It’s hard for me to pinpoint why I find them supremely uncomfortable. I don’t feel like they’re empowering him & are actually harmful, but I can’t articulate the reason yet.
SHAUN/LEA - SOOOO much easy chemistry.  My favorite small moment was Lea’s flirty smile back to Shaun in the bar when he agreed to go swimming and Shaun’s subtle, smitten/pleased with himself, but not flaunting it too much to Glassman expression back. Seriously, that was incredibly played by Freddie Highmore. It was similar to his expression when she invited him in for apples, but extra rich bc Glassman was his audience this time. Everyone notices Highmore’s acting in big emotional scenes like the meltdown ending, but the nuance he captures in conveying blink-and-you’ll-miss-them hints to Shaun’s inner life is extraordinary talent.
Main takeaway was so happy Lea was there for Shaun.  It’s interesting to see viewers still distrustful of Lea bc she is flakey.  I think Lea deeply loves Shaun & is attracted to him,but she holds back bc SHE is distrustful of herself.  Lea didn’t answer Glassman about kids, bc maybe she would like them but doesn’t think she’d be a good mother which was alluded to in the dead fish/“Hubert” story.   Also, it was an EXCELLENT touch to mention Lea was busy at work, but still went with Shaun. I so wish the other writers would reference Lea’s life outside of Shaun more, even a single line before she exits about where she’s going or what she’s doing would help. Lea NEVER gets to tell her side of things to anyone and some viewers take the worst possible interpretation to her actions and fail to give her any credit for her kindness.  For them, she only exists in relation to what she can do for Shaun, which is the effect of only giving her snippets of scenes revolving entirely around him. Let Lea to be a whole person please.
CLAIRE/MENTAL HEALTH -  Thank goodness she called a therapist.  Hopeful for the return of old Claire.  Truly, one of the best parts of The Good Doctor is how much they tackle mental health issues.   On a show about surgeons, they could avoid it, but they’re often the most important plots bc no one challenges treating a physical condition, yet plenty of ppl outright SHAME ppl for treating mental health/neuro conditions.
CLAIRE/MELENDEZ - SO much easy chemistry.  Melendez establishing himself as a support system for Claire is perfect.  He knows now she won’t ask for help, so he’ll have to show it w/out request and often.  This dynamic adds depth to both.  LOVE it.
THE BAD:  Just wish the episode had been longer. They cut a flashback scene of Shaun being hit that was in the promo, that would have reminded ppl the abuse wasn’t just words. I know Shaun said so, but some ppl aren’t attentive viewers and need reminders. Also sad a Melendaire ER entrance scene in the promo stills was cut.  Otherwise, nothing but love.  They’ll likely submit this episode for Emmy consideration and they absolutely should.  :Chef’s kiss:

Have you ever had secondary lead syndrome? Being new in the kdrama fandom thats one thing i was absolutely not ready for. I have never experienced it before and believe me i have watched tv in every language possible. Secondary leads or the third person in the triangle is always easy to hate or easy to not ship with the main girl. But with kdramas they are so amazing they make me root for them.
I am the poster child for canon shipping, in kdramas or elsewhere. For me to get SLS (and I am not counting something like The King Loves, where the second lead was always intended to get the girl as in the novel or Boys Over Flowers where by the end I wanted heroine with both depending on the scene, but a genuine SLS), something must have gone seriously haywire in either writing or acting (or I suppose the trope book.)
It’s probably not surprising that out of the few times I shipped the lead with the second lead, a lot of the times it was such a widespread phenomenon the makers actually changed canon:
East of Eden - our hero, played by Song Seung Hun, was supposed to eventually end up with classy Lee Da Hae, and his romance with the mob daughter Grace was going to be a short little sideline. Only they had a few too many scenes and insane chemistry long before the supposed main couple even met and a LOT of fans jumped ship. Apparently, the male lead did also, because guess who ended up being his permanent true love? They are still one of my all time favorite OTPs, btw.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9qKOLUW_Do
Empress Ki - ooooh boy. Clearly, Ha Ji Won’s heroine was supposed to end up with the noble Korean king played by Joo Jin Mo (in terms of endgame, not happy ending), and not the intense wreck of a Chinese emperor played by Ji Chang Wook. Promos, billing, posters, the fact that it’s a freaking Korean drama, etc. I (and the fandom in general) went insane for Team Emperor and that chemistry and dysfunction was out of this world. Yup, he’s the one who ended up being her true love, even if they were one of the most messed up OTPs out there.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-4yldyj0kM
Queen Seon Duk - noble boring Yushin was supposed to be the heroine’s love and then Kim Nam Gil as unstable Bidam appeared and stole everyone’s hearts, mine included and guess what the epic love ended up being. It didn’t help that the usually reliable Uhm Tae Woong was a piece of wood in that drama and KNG was on fire. Best ending ever even if tragic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfQsDRlrRmo
Spring Days - heroine was supposed to end up with older brother who cured her but instead ended up with the younger brother which made me mega happy. But then you don’t hire Jo In Sung and expect anyone to root for anyone else. He’s one of those actors who, even before he was a big star, really should have never played a secondary guy for he’d steal the show.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ps7l27OBnVQ
Two Park Shi Hoo dramas - How to Meet a Perfect Neighbor and Queen of Reversals. Whatever his behavior in real life, on screen PSH is basically a chemistry beast and I will always ship him with the heroine, whatever else is going on. So back when he was doing secondary roles, I shipped him with female leads in both of these and got my wish. He got the girl both times!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-V-d382Oqo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmQU6q2oPWg
(Btw, don’t know if you noticed, but out of the above, except for Neighbor, all of them are longer dramas; it gives the writers time and chance to fix things.)
There have only been a couple of dramas where I’ve been driven to uncanon ship and it didn’t end up being the case because, once again, for that to happen means there are other issues. And they are:
Iljimae. Because Park Shi Hoo. That is the only time I didn’t ship Lee Junki with the leading lady or at least I was fine with them as an otp but preferred her with PSH.
Dream High and Bad Guy - both of those are partially result of my love for abused/mistreated sweetheart with awful family finding joy in plucky female lead tropes. With BG, it was in addition because Han Ga In had better chemistry with Kim Jae Wook than Kim Nam Girl and because I thought their scenes were on fire. With DH, frankly it’s because Sam Bong annoyed me and if I had to pick between sweet bumpkin or intense fuck-up in terms of fictional dudes, you know who I’d go to (FWIW, I am firmly convinced that the way the early eps were set up, my OTP was supposed to be the canon one, but then Kim Soo Hyun and his character took off like a storm and they switched.)
Seeing that I have been watching kdramas for 13 years, the above is a pretty tiny list though, because as I said, I am a canon worshipper pretty much.
So that’s my lengthy screed…

Summary:
“I sent you a Christmas card that got sent back to me. Did you get a new apartment?” his dad wonders. The question is all suspicion and little anything else.
A flicker of an idea sparks. It’s not nearly formed well enough for him to say, “Yeah, actually,” and when he follows that with, “I moved in with someone,” he wants to punch himself in the face. He’s living with someone?!
“You’re living with someone?” It’s the same voice and tone as the one in Stiles’ head, just thirty years older.
Two things keep Stiles from bashing his face onto the table: there’s a steaming cup of coffee in the way and, more importantly, his dad will definitely hear. Someone passes by in front of him and a semi-familiar book cover catches his eye. “Derek Hale,” he muses, and stops. No. That wasn’t meant to be out loud.

Series: Part 1 of
Mother of Dragons
Summary:
Since Hogwarts had opened its doors to werewolves, many Hale children had apparently come through, wary and angry, refusing to socialize with the other students. And one by one, they’d been sorted into Slytherin, obviously, with the odd Ravenclaw to mix things up.
And then along came little Derek Hale, who’d barely gotten his ass on the stool before the hat was calling out Gryffindor.
Everyone thought it was funny, even now, when Derek was in his seventh year. Stiles, though, found it fascinating.
It helped, of course, that Derek was two years older and hotter than the sun.
