Finally, my time has come! I’ve been building this puppy for months and I finally get to share it here! I want to preface this with the fact that any challenge you don’t want to do, you don’t have to do, word wars can be replaced with word sprints if you so desire, and I don’t expect anyone to complete this in a day. Now, without further ado, I present to you…a Sanders Sides crawl!

My True Identity: It’s time to introduce yourself to the world at large! Do a 5 minute sprint as you explain what you want to do with this YouTube series.

Way Too Adult: Adultery is a scary thing, but you can get through it! Sprint 300 words to kickstart your journey!

Taking on Anxiety with Lilly Singh: Your Anxiety shows up, but you will prove to both Anxiety and your Inner Editor that you won’t back down! Sprint to the nearest thousand.

A New Year of Lying to Myself…In Song: Prove to yourself that finishing your novel isn’t a bunch of lies! Do a 15 minute word war to prove you can accomplish this!

The Dark Side of Disney: Anxiety and Princey never seem to agree, or do they? Sprint for 10 minutes as the two sides debate!

I’m in a Disney Show!: Being on a Disney show is a great achievement! Do a three-digit challenge to celebrate!

The Mind vs. The Heart: When Logic and Morality clash, it can get difficult to find the right answer. Sprint for 20 minutes as you reach a compromise between the two!

Alone on Valentine’s Day: Another Valentine’s, another reminder about being alone. But your friends will always be there to support you. Do a 15 minute word war with them to boost everyone’s word count!

Losing my Motivation: Everyone is at fault, and Logic is Logan?! What?! Sprint to the nearest thousand as you try to wrap your head around this new information.

My Personality Q & A: So many questions, so little time! Sprint for 10 minutes as you answer a few questions while a few more arise.

Am I Original?: It’s hard to come up with an original idea, and it’s even harder when it has to be a good one! Do a 30 minute word war while you brainstorm. Bonus: mention something about originality in your novel! Double bonus: use the name Roman!

My Negative Thinking: Figuring out cognitive distortions is a pain, and falsehoods abound in this episode. Sprint to 300 words, one for every falsehood in the video.

Growing Up: Birthdays come and go, but adultery is forever. The problem is, are you truly “adult enough”? Sprint to the nearest thousand and keep yourself focused to see this novel through to the end, and give Patton a hug!

Making Some Changes: You need your friends nearby to support you, sometimes. While they can’t always be there, you can keep them with you in your heart! Sprint 800 words, 200 for every friend in the episode.

Becoming a Cartoon: Everyone loves the villain! Prove yourself worthy of the title by attempting a fifty-headed hydra! If you win, congratulations! If you lose, no worries, just keep swimming to the next prompt!

Accepting Anxiety Part 1 (Excepting Anxiety): Where oh where could Anxiety be? Do a 10 minute word war as you travel to Anxiety’s room.

Accepting Anxiety Part 2 (Can ANXIETY Be Good?): Everyone’s freaking out, but at least Virgil has returned! Write 478 words in celebration.

Fitting In (Hogwarts Houses): This episode is all about figuring out where you fit in, or if you want to do your own thing entirely. If you’re a Gryffindor, sprint for 10 minutes. If you’re a Ravenclaw, write 600 words. If you’re a Slytherin, do a 15 minute word war. If you’re a Hufflepuff, do a three digit challenge! If you don’t fit into any house, write for half an hour to show how awesome you are!

Moving On Part 1 (Exploring Nostalgia): Looking back on the past can be useful, but it can also have drawbacks. Sprint 650 words as you realize that you need to stay in the present.

Moving On Part 2 (Dealing with a Breakup): If you can’t move on, moving forward is the next best way to go. Write to the end of your current scene to move forward in your story.

The Sanders Sides 12 Days of Christmas: There’s just no winning on Christmas! Write for 12 minutes, and don’t forget about the truckload of Bubba Gump shrimp!

Can LYING Be Good?: If Deceit is here, then where is Patton?! Sprint 1,000 words to find your favorite father figure of the series!

Why Do We Get Out of Bed in the Morning?: Finding the right balance in life can be difficult. If you want to focus on more creative endeavors, and pants your way through the novel, sprint for 15 minutes. If you prefer to focus on the more logical things in life, and plan out your novel, write 500 words. Don’t forget to take a break and drink something, and eat if you need to!

Crofter’s (The Musical): Time for something a little silly! Relax and write through the song (found here) at your own pace.

Learning New Things About Ourselves: Discovering who you are can be a difficult process. Do a 20 minute word war as you contemplate who you are.

Embarrassing Phases (The Nightmare Instead of Christmas): There are always phases that we look back on and cringe. Sprint for 1,000 words as you learn to accept these parts of yourself.

Selfishness v. Selflessness: Deceit is a slimey boy, but at least he hates Nazis? Consider what he has to say in the court case and sprint for 45 minutes as you contemplate going to Lee and Mary-Lee’s wedding.

Dealing with INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS: Uh-oh, The Duke is here, and it looks like he isn’t going away anytime soon! Write whatever comes to mind for 20 minutes as you battle his intrusive thoughts!

it was really cool back in 2017/18 that we were getting episodes with the sides in pairs just to discuss some topic they both had strong opinions on. we had logan-patton, virgil-roman, logan-virgil, logan-roman.

and we were just counting down until we would get all the pairs and i remember we were kinda scared of when virgil and patton would argue/disagree about something. and also the joke about logan fighting everyone one by one so we have been waiting for the janus-logan video ever since deceit was introduced. and we were then also hoping to get videos like those with janus or remus pairs with any of the other sides and each other. but then none of it ever happened :(

and now the virgil vs patton disagreement is a huge mess because it’s so. convoluted? with everything going on in the plot and all the angst. and we don’t even know for sure what virgil is so angry about. while on the other hand janus and remus are only shown interacting in ads and sketches that feel more like fan service than anything else.

i don’t think we’re going to get something like the dark side of disney or logic vs passion again. it’s always going to be something part of an extremely complicated angsty plot or an inconsequential sketch outside of the timeline that doesn’t offer anything and just reinforces these patton/logan , virgil/roman , janus/remus completely fanon dynamics.

and normal, casual episodes developing two characters a little through exposing the differences and similarities between each other are GOOD because they challenged the stereotypes we could fall for about the characters.

like. in my negative thinking. when virgil believed it was always logan taking roman’s side and then logan said “frankly i find both you and princey a little bit extra”. he challenges virgil’s view. because yes. virgil thinks it’s three normal sides vs him the nuisance. but then turns out logan sees virgil and roman as two over-dramatic sides while him and patton aren’t. but also we learn by the end that both logan and virgil can be grounded and somewhat rational while patton and roman can be cheerful and delusionally optimistic. they’re all opposites in a way and virgil has more in common with the rest than he thinks.

because all pairs of sides are just as opposite and just as similar as any other pair, it just depends on what angle you’re approaching them from. so exposing these new angles helps learn more about each of the sides separately as well as their relationships.

these episodes were lighthearted but also the character development was taken seriously. it was cool. i miss it. bring it back.

Listen. No objections to patreon. I just wishhhhh they didn't have that fucking writer's tier. That is one of like, three reasons I'm leaving the Fandom. And a pretty big one at that. We've all noticed the push of more logan/patton and roman/virgil content as of late and he's not even trying to hide it now! I'm sorry ajsjdjsjsk I just know it's because of that damn writers room with shippers trying to make their ship canon!! I just wish, especially after the last asides, they gave some other pairings a chance. Literally FWSA was all just Roman and virgil. Okay, okay.

So everyone is talking about how there's going to be one other Side, the orange side. Most people are thinking maybe Anger/Wrath or Procrastination or something.

The biggest reasoning behind this is a) rainbow and b) there was an empty spot on Putting Others First: SvS

So that would make sense, considering this is a rainbow:

We got;

Red (Roman)

Orange (TBD)

Yellow (Janus)

Green (Remus)

Blue (Patton)

Indigo (Logan)

And

Purple (Virgil)

If it's like that, we have three Dark Sides, Janus, Remus, and Orange. And Three Light Sides, Logan, Roman, and Patton. And of course we have our Neutral Side, Virgil.

But think about this maybe instead of the other rainbow, we get...

Theory

I just had a thought. What if we were thinking about Selfishness vs Selflessness the wrong way?

Patton is acting way more selfish in the video, guilt tripping and (attempted) bribing the other sides in order to agree with his view. Literally nobody but Patton wanted to go to the wedding. Virgil, Logan, Roman, Deceit, and even Thomas expressed that they don’t want to or shouldn’t go to the wedding. Patton forced his opinion and his view on everybody else.

Meanwhile, Deceit is acting shockingly selflessly here. His function is “Deceit” and he only really brought up lying one time in the whole video, which was when Roman suggested it first anyways. He’s fighting to teach the other sides and Thomas a lesson. He says that he “doesn’t want Thomas to be disadvantaged”. That scene was undercut by humor in order to alleviate the tension but I think we should consider what he said more often.

Patton is Selfishness, acting for himself and his view (and arguably Thomas), and Deceit is Selflessness, acting to protect Thomas from being upset.

Idk, just a crack theory I thought of.

Okay so overall... this episode was fantastic!! It was literally heartwrenching and the video game references made me so happy!! I'm slightly disappointed Deceit's name isn't Ethan but! Let's just make every episode like this from now on Sanders Sides is literally amazing

When the riot in Attica broke out they had to lock down the facility but negotiations to release hostages took days. In the end, the rioters proved that conditions in prisons needed to change and they did.

Sanders and Selfishness vs. Selflessness

I understand and agree with a lot of this video and as a whole I think it expires the topic in an interesting way and provides a lot of good commentary on the issue which a lot of people might experience. But I disagree with the outcome.

It is my opinion that Thomas should have picked the audition over the wedding. 

Bold statement I know, lets see if I can back it up. 

So, I can relate a lot to the personality that Thomas expresses through his Thomas character and the corresponding sides. Generally a moral person with good intentions and a lot of love to give, not only to others in their lives but to things which they are passionate about. A person who strives to achieve their dreams whilst also maintaining solid relationships with the people around them, and aware yet sometimes mildly ignorant to the logic of their situation hence the time management thing and why Logan is often so generally annoyed) and still sometimes persuaded by their overactive anxiety. 

I understand that this kind of topic is sensitive and a grey area that would raise a whole lot of different opinions to a whole lot of people, and therefore Thomas is entitled to his own opinion if he truely feels that he reacted to the situation in the right way. That’s fine, but I think that instead of drawing the line at “selflessness vs. lying to your friends” the true title “selfishness and selflessness” could be explored and it could have looked a little bit different. 

As an example from my current personal life, I recently bought a car, and as such I’ve been giving a lot of my friends lifts to and from where they need to be when they ask. That itself seems like a “selfless” endeavour as I’m helping these people out, but it really isn't. It’s actually a co-benefit. Because every time I pick my friend up, they get a favour done for them, but I also get the following:

- Something to do in time that I’m generally bored shitless anyway

- A chance to see and hang out with my friends more that I would regularly see them

- The good feeling that you get from doing someone else a favour

I’m definitely helpful in this situation, but I’m not selfless. When it’s offered or I’m traveling a larger distance that I wouldn't usually I take fuel money. If I’m busy at the time someone needs a lift I don’t drop everything and go to them. If I for some reason don’t want to pick someone up, I tell them I can’t. That’s selfish, technically, because I’m putting my own needs before another persons, but if I’m no selfish then I’ll end up a doormat giving lifts to people she doesn’t like and broke from paying for all that petrol. 

I’ve given up things because I wanted to focus on my biggest dream. And I would never EVER want someone to miss out on achieving something that they wanted that much. So if I was Mary-Lee and Leigh in this situation, I honestly don’t think I would mind if Thomas cancelled on my for a big opportunity, and if I did mind I would at least understand. I should hope that if you’re good enough friends to be invited to this person’s wedding’s they should also understand that this is a big deal for you and not want you to miss out on the opportunity because of them. 

I think a good way for this video to have ended would have been that if after Thomas admitted that he wanted to go to the call-back more (and that he wasn’t even looking forward to the wedding in the first place) Patton would have realised that causing yourself to suffer is just as if not more immoral than causing someone else to suffer, but still being reluctant to lie. Then we could have had the above discussion about how “your friends should understand if this is important to you” and shit and Thomas decides to honestly tell his friend why he isn’t going and they do understand, leaving deceit defeated once again and Thomas able to actually do what he admitted he would rather do. 

So yeah, here are my thoughts on a thought provoking piece of art. Thanks for making such cool shit @thatsthat24 !!
