so what are your main thoughts about kant? what makes him appealing to you?

asking me for my main thoughts on kant is an insane question because i have oh so many on him because he's just so very, very complex as a character.

however, at baseline, what has always made him an appealing character to me is the fact that he is someone that is willing to do literally anything for those that he loves - and his brother is at the top of that list. i have been a kant defender from episode one, because in that first episode, we get captain christ blackmailing kant into getting close to bison and fadel by asking him who would take care of babe if he were locked up? just that one interaction told me everything i needed to know about kant tbh. because there is something sooo delicious about a character that will go against their own morals, go against everything they believe in, in order to keep their loved ones safe. there's something so juicy about characters that really don't have a choice in what they do - because while sure, technically he could say no, there is no world in which kant, as he is written, is not going to do everything possible to keep babe in his custody.

he's a tragic character in his most basic elements - where the characters choices directly impact their own fate, but there is no world where they would not have made those same choices, even knowing the outcome.

so i’ve been curious about this since you discovered during our watch. i’d love to hear all your thoughts about it

so, i did talk a little bit about it here but i did not get nearly as in depth about the quote itself and why it's particularly insane to me that they keep using it. again, they keep using it to reference kantbison, but the quote itself is about katherine and petruchio.

the line is said by the character gremio as he is explaining what happened at katherine and petruchio's wedding to tranio (who is disguised as lucentio) and explaining why he was compelled him to leave early. his word is all we have to go off of in terms of what the wedding was like because we aren't actually shown the wedding in the script. and the reason he says it actually has nothing to do with katherine! petruchio makes a goddamn fool of katherine at the wedding. first of all, he arrives late and when he does show up, he is dressed in absolutely ridiculous attire and he is riding a horse that broken-down and diseased. then, the ceremony happens, and he swears, hits the priest, and throws food around! and then when it came time to kiss the bride, he did is so loudly and obnoxiously, that it echoed through the church. so yeah, pretty mad of a wedding if you ask me!

however, the context of the line isn't even what makes me crazy about it, its the fact that they put it on the back of othello. now, putting a quote not even from the play on the back of the play is odd enough on it's own, but if it was a play that included another absurd marriage, i'd get it. and now granted, i haven't read othello, but in general, people don't usually talk about the marriage in that play. yes, part of the plot has to do with othello's relationship with his wife, desdemona, but the crux of the plot revolves more around his relationship with his best friend, iago, and how iago betrays othello. the play isn't about a mad marriage, it's about a mad friendship, if anything, and also about racism.

so, that begs the question - why the hell did they put that quote on the back of othello? why have we seen that quote TWICE, on the back of both of babe's shakespeare books?

well, when we look at both scenes, we get a common denominator. in the first scene, kant ends up with the book as he daydreams about bison. in the second, babe is with both kant and bison and sees them interacting as a couple.

and with that in mind, and the fact that the taming of the shrew ends with both couples married, and with gay marriage recently legalized in thailand, i think it's pretty obvious what they're hinting towards. and if this scene from the fast love music video wasn't hint enough!

saw someone say fadel should’ve shot himself when everyone was defending kant’s bitch ass to traumatize them and at this point i can’t tell if they’re joking or not but honestly yeah go ahead maybe he should’ve why not?

okay but that would have been kind of funny ngl. like i adore kant obvs but. fadel being like “i’ve had enough. im changing the trajectory of all of your lives forever” like it would have been Bad in canon but it is kinda funny to think about. however it Was even funnier of him to do all of that and then just casually put the gun away and go “any allergies?” so really i dont think anything could have made that scene funnier
