The beginning - March 2020
Before I really get into it, I want to say that I did not lose anyone to COVID-19. I am aware that I can write about what happened in a pretty carefree way, because folks that I knew were not desperately sick and dying. I’m sorry to anyone who went through the anguish of losing their loved ones and not being able to be by their side. What I’m trying to do is just provide some sort of diary to look back upon maybe a couple of decades from now, as a reminder of one of the key points in my life, as well as the lives of pretty much everyone that was on this planet at the time. During late December 2019 and January 2020, I remember hearing news about some virus doing the rounds and being aware of it moving closer to the UK. I remember seeing a minute amount of people wearing face coverings on the London Underground and thinking they were being silly and overreacting - really, what was all the fuss about? It’s just making people uncomfortable seeing folks wearing them, right? On March 7th, I even did some filming for a TV show in SW London. By then, things were more serious and the Production team tried to make sure the props we were using - drinking glasses - were kept in use by the same person. Yet we were still all huddled around waiting, breathing the same air in an underground nightclub as none of us knew anything about this virus spread. By March 10th, toilet roll supplies were pretty scarce. I was doing 1 Second Everyday videos and that was my exciting snip for the 10th. People were starting to stockpile and it was showing. I remember reading a local new article - we were living in Catford at the time - about a woman who tested positive for the virus taking an uber to Lewisham Hospital. I don’t have much to say about that memory, just that it’s there, floating amongst all the others. At work, we held a networking event for some of our members on March 3rd and turnout was pretty low. I still wanted to shake peoples hands and (stupidly) display my calmness and confidence. Not something I look back on with pride. Later that day, we went to watch Liverpool play Chelsea and sat covertly amongst Chelsea fans in a packed stadium. I’m not sure at what point I started to actually get worried, but I think it would have been around the second week of March. We were due to travel up North for a friend’s birthday, but we cancelled amongst a cloud of uncertainty and distant rumblings of panic. Dan’s was able to work from home before I was. I know that I was worried about my asthma and the amount of unknowns we were suddenly all surrounded by. Each day, going into work not sure what was to come. On March 17th, we were told to take our laptops and go home. I believe I decided to walk back via Liverpool Street so I could pick up a few food items. Then, when the train got back into Catford, I went into a local mart that sold a variety of international foods. I at least was mindful to take only what the 2 of us would need for a few days, as hopefully all would be well soon? So many of us though that, that it’d be fine by April. I was in quite a light-hearted mood and even thought we’d try some foods that were unfamiliar to me. March 26th, we were all out on our balconies clapping for the NHS. At the time, it felt like a wonderful display of camaraderie and a way to share something together. A couple of weeks of this, I even remember half-jokingly shouting at a jogger from the balcony, urging them to clap. But it soon became apparent that claps were not paying bills. Claps were not going to save the lives of NHS workers, dying on the frontline, whilst we felt smug about “showing up” in front of our neighbours. Stores and services adjusted as quickly as they could - implementing queuing systems marked out in yellow and black hazard type or with stickers, reminding us to keep 6 feet apart. There were one-in-one-out policies and of course, face coverings were mandatory unless you were exempt. I don’t remember much about what was broadcast by the government at this point. It all ended up blurring into one smeared shambles of a response that was far too slow from our government, with Boris Johnson at its helm.
To keep ourselves sane, everything became online. Parties, quizzes, catch-ups, lo-fi but much appreciated comedy from friends - I loved watching my friend’s “Washing Up With Tom” - that was hands down a weekly highlight. I don’t have a neat way of wrapping this post up. I just know it’s a start to remembering the lockdown(s) and how the world was for me at the time.

My Pandemic Diary: Voice of the Coronavirus Pandemic
It’s a diary by nature but it’s my personal experience. Coronavirus was spreading like anything in India when Janta Curfew was declared. At this point of time I decided to travel back to my natives from Delhi as Delhi was turned the hub for the virus. Facing couple of blows from the auto-rickshaw driver and the cab drivers I reached the airport where I could notice mass of people trying to return back to their natives wrapped in PPE kits face covered with masks hands with gloves waiting for the announcement. The best kind of motivation is always self-motivation. After few days when the Nizamuddin cases raised I was targeted for being a Muslim and travelling from Delhi. Neighbors stopped speaking, if parents went for vegetable shopping people started staring. I had my own struggle which was stopped after me complaining to the Superintendent of Police.
Quarantine is the separation and restriction of movement of people who have potentially been exposed to a contagious disease to ascertain if they become unwell, so reducing the risk of them infecting others .Self-quarantine had an additional stress and challenge on my mental health when I was tested positive for COVID. But I tried some physical activity and relaxation techniques which turned to be a valuable tool and helped me in remaining calm and continue to protect my health during this time. I have started focusing on my health more and have started 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity physical activity every week. Being physically and mentally fit is very important for a person. Books helps to be optimistic in my life and stay positive during this pandemic. I have start making plans for the entire coming week so that it will keep me excited for the entire week. I’m taking care of myself eating regularly and having enough sleep which is helping me in reducing stress. I’m listening to music, watching movies, and have also started writing blogs which I thought I will not be able to do earlier. I have generated a proactive nature in me during this pandemic because I feel attitude is all which gives the power and control to the uncertain situation. Also, taking care of me has not only helped me stay healthy, it has also helped me stay calm and focused so that I can adequately take care of my family members. I have always refrained writing about my life in pandemic until now. Now the world is opening many new things are coming in the way. After seeing so many deaths and sad news now being optimistic in nature some ray of hope is coming in my way. I have started having imaginary conversation with our toddler in our house. It likely won’t come as a surprise that doing something for me and for your my own purposes is likely to be more fulfilling, enjoyable, and successful than doing something to please others.

just not the normal days in the metro. 👌 quotes compilation ¬ - "there are two types of people who will tell you that you cannot make a difference in this world: those who are afraid to try and those who are afraid you will succeed." --Ray Goforth "too many of us are not living our dreams because we are living our fears." --Les Brown "when I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid." --Audre Lorde "if you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. and guess what they have planned for you? Not much." --Jim Rohn "if you want to make a permanent change, stop focusing on the size of your problems and start focusing on the size of you!" --T. lazaretto
Woke up and watered the plants as Gaelic storm played in the background. The leaves careen in glacé jubilance. Do the crows think us extinct now? What we deem empty is a state of grace, a split second of somewheres arranged like a cinema reel. If someone won't ennoble your pain, what use were those expensive dinners and tailor-made vacations? To the wallflowers, I say—confess your adorations while you still have the time. When Ansel Adams sunk into a depressive breakdown, he escaped to Yosemite and wrote to Cedric Wright - Friendship is another form of love— more passive perhaps, but full of the transmitting and acceptance of things like thunderclouds and grass and the clean granite of reality. On twitter, the word-wheeler reminds us of the existence of 'matutolypea' (ma-toot-oh-leh-pee-a): a state of extreme funk/irritability after waking up. We no longer have days but a window garden of hours. I am discovering newer ways to say thank you to strangers. I am trying to make my anger useful. Did you know that an apple called api etoile resembles a starfish? In the night's blind cave, you reach for a voice without asking if it is God or a ghost.

Once again no time for myself...
Don’t get me wrong I love spending time with my son he’s my everything 💙
But sometimes I just think when do I lose myself?
When did I just become mum?
It’s now nearly 9pm and my seven year old is still determined he isn’t ready to go to bed which for any other mum is easy they just put their child to bed but nope not my son he is so determined he will spend hours getting out of bed or he will just sit in bed for hours wide awake so it’s easier to let him stay up later knowing he will go to bed and sleep easier!
Then maybe just maybe 🤷🏻♀️ I might get a hour to myself before I have to drag my own butt to bed because I’m sat on the sofa struggling to keep my eyes open!
Just to have a hour before bed to have the energy to run a bath do some skin care maybe abit of reading before falling asleep and waking up again at 3am to a small child in my bed begging me to come back into his room and give him a cuddle which at 3am I’m just not up for arguing so cuddles it is! 🤍

VIRTUAL VISITA IGLESIA 2021 - Day 5 Santiago Apostol, Betis, Guagua, Pampanga #Betis is synonynous with excellent #woodcraft and it is no wonder that their parish #church should reflect the same artistry. The church of Betis is a powerhouse of Baroque church design. Even their side transept portal is good enough to be the main #facade. Every facet is a remarkable feat, from the architecture, retablos, the carved doors and statuary, and as an added bonus, their ceiling painting earned the church the title as the country's version of the Sistine Chapel. Walk its wooden floors as you let your eyes wander and take everything in. Seven Churches in Seven Days, seven of the nicest #church #facades ive been to in the country, one per day of #semanasanta till #easter. A second serving of #virtual #visitaiglesia in the time of #lockdown. Start your own virtual visita iglesia and post one church day till easter as well. Flood the feed with beautiful churches while we maintain being the living Church in this holiest of times. #wanderful #wanderfromhome #lockdowndiaries #heritageph #lumangsimbahan #instakultura #pamana #heritagechurches #pampanga #holyweek #holyweek2021 #archdioceseofsanfernando #archdioceseofsanfernandopampanga #matuapisamban #pisamban #500yoc (at Betis Church - Saint James the Apostle Parish) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNG_Mx3Hmym/?igshid=d5zun1kloxui
