Yesterday I visited the Maretarium Aquarium, an aquarium in Kotka, Finland! Here are some pictures :)

All the tanks and fish were very beautiful indeed! But the showstopper was definitely the Baltic Sea tank, which holds 680 000 liters of water. It’s the single biggest tank in all of Finland, it is seven meters deep, it gets its water from the Baltic right next to Maretarium, and it houses sturgeons, salmon, trout, perches, zanders, roaches… the list goes on.

#more thoughts below here be warned. i really enjoyed the introductory sequence and how it juxtaposed varric's dramatized version with the #real sequence of events. i also enjoy how they tied in lothering. imo id say the game has a really solid start. i also really enjoy the #visuals and stylistic direction of the game- i'd even go so far as to say i largely prefer it to inquisition (its just the oilyness LMFAO)#esp with the qunari and how they look.. less so with the proportions of the elves* (something that really irked me in inquisition is how #harold is forced to have the very clearly downscaled proportions while the elvish npcs (solas sera and basically every other elf #you interact with) dont have the slouched shoulders and very? crumpled looking frame). dont like that youre forced only to play as a human #though its very obvious that they were not given a reasonable amount of time to actually finish the game because OH MY GOD the reused #locations. the story was fairly solid at the start but the game is incredibly short (im in act 3 at the end of 2 days of playing) esp in #comp to origins. everything feels vaguely disconnected in a way thats uncharacteristic of bioware with the context of having played dao dai #and some of me1. and introducing the timeskips did Not help. i can see why people got absolutely attached to the companions however #with the system of friend + rival and it producing dichotomic benefits. rivalmances apparently existing also creates a really fun way of #interacting with your companions. i like anders #anyways completely unprompted thoughts on da2 over thank you for your time (i just needed somewhere to put them or i would go insane)

Saber was one of the final network releases I've located (after‚ i might say‚ a long long search for a reasonably priced #copy). so. the story of Saber of London. (deep breath). SoL is really a development of The Vise; for more on the needlessly complex history #of that series you can follow the appropriate tag above. in short The Vise was a crime anthology made specifically for US tv but produced #in the UK using brit actors writers and directors. the recurring character of Mark Saber was popular enough that the show eventually became #The Vise: Mark Saber; it then became Saber of London. some sources still regard this show as essentially being a later series of The Vise #(and it does still use the og theme tune over the end credits) but considering the title change and (crucially) the fact that SoL saw the #series move from ABC to NBC‚ im gonna consider this its own self contained show and number the episodes accordingly (ie. this is series 1 o #Saber of London not series 5 or 7 (depending on your counting) of The Vise). anyway now that's all out of the way.#there's little material difference between this series and the slightly earlier The Vise: Mark Saber episodes besides new titles and a #different introductory spiel from star Donald Gray. our hero is still a plucky private detective undertaking modest cases that the show's #budget will allow. this ep concerns art forgeries and an attempt to trap the criminals responsible‚ which means Saber must call on an art #expert to help authenticate the works. enter Honor! not yet a star‚ Honor did have a decade of acting experience behind her #which is maybe reflected in the fact that she's given an unusually meaty part for a woman in this series: she's neither victim nor love #interest (which are the usual roles) but a witty and intelligent source of assistance to the hero.#unlike The Vise episodes (which could take up to a decade to appear in the uk if they did at all) SoL appears to have had a fairly regular #slot from Granada about two years after the show's US premier. this ep would have been seen by uk audiences in 1959

That moment when your at work, listening to a video about the appeals of MMO's as a shared living space/massive yet disconnected community....and you realize that everytime he speaks of interacting with people. Or talking to strangers, or just "Being in a community" you are cringing and feeling sick to your stomach at the idea of experiencing that.

That moment when you realized your somewhat broken on the inside and as a person...

#my formative years. in relation to social stuff.....was really bad #neighbors were an old man who didn't want to be spoken to and a family of meth addict/producers #with the methheads having 1 kid my age to play with....who wasn't allowed in my house because my mon caught him trying to steal my gameboy #then I would go to school and if I had been sick and missed the previous day #would have multiple kids tell me to my face they were mad at me #because they hoped I had killed myself #the idea of being in a group space doesn't frighten me #i am big and can fist fight #but the concept of an area with 10+ people in disgusts me #and someone trying to greet me/get to know me HAS me avoid that location for months #I just nevet realized how that extended even into the “digital world” before now

they should invent an anemia treatment with measurable physical effects that also doesn't kill you (difficulty impossible)

#:)#it's so boringgggggg being tired and sleepy 24/7 #all these treatments might not even fix that because of my fuckass kidneys #boo hoo they lost the ability to produce the hormones/proteins that handle hemoglobin #and the best synthetic treatments can do is bring my anemia up to 'severe' from 'life threatening'#because the strain of trying to raise my levels any more would pretty much kill me horribly #before me are three paths: osteoporosis and heart failure if i don't get treatment #moderate weakness/fatigue/coldness from clinically managed hemoglobin of like 100-110 #or hypertensive stroke from returning to normal hemoglobin levels #they were very clear to tell me there's a good chance these treatments will fix my bloods but might not help my symptoms #which suuuuuuuuucks because am i just supposed to be exhausted now for the rest of my life or #ALSO it's been a week since my infusion and my saliva still tastes of metal. im cranky >:(#i suppose i should be lucky because basically every treatment option only came about during my lifetime but still #can someone travel back in time like 25 years and hold a bunch of senior WHO officials at gunpoint #and force them to spend everything developing better research into kidney disease #so that in the present day i'd have better options at my disposal #or failing that go back 5 years and locate covid patient zero and stop the pandemic so i never got the infection that triggered hypertensio #either one would be good! i'd do it. but i am too sleepy.

Finallly got around to properly designing Demonstrator! She’s silly

#keese draws #oc art #oc #she’s a part of the story with lace and the others #she’s in fact a big part of the reason lace was able to find out everything she did in the first timeline #so Long story short she was from the very end of the time period that the creators were still around #well at that point only 2 of them were and the one that made her left super shortly after but yknow #but after the last creator died within their world the gods began fighting for power and control #the time god had seen what becomes of this and freaked out and tried to preserve at least one of the people of this era by sending her to #the future before he immediately stopped doing that since he has little control over his powers and was sent to a different time period #during that war pretty much every other original non god inhabitant of this world ended up dead #all the modern day magic relics are in fact pieces of these old inhabitants that carry enough of their original owners magic #to be used for casting purposes #the main party found demonstrator while they were working on their main quest and had assumed she was a relic before accidentally unfreezing #her and realizing this was a living person why was very confused as to what happened #but yeah demonstrator was mostly created as an experiment and she knows that so she’s eager to get the others to help her test her abilities #lace was very intrigued by her and her abilities especially given her concerns surrounding well. everything lately.#demonstrator basically just has shitty magic 8 ball magic where you can ask her a question and her abilities will show her some answer #these answers can’t be full on false but they can be extremely vague or even just complete nonanswers so usefulness carries #she can also only produce an answer once per question #although luckily it’s pretty loose on what one question is so you can just rephrase the same question a bunch of different ways if you want #so she and lace were still able to find out a shit ton of stuff and the rest is history #important to note that her role in the modern timeline is still pretty prone to change but I’m currently planning on her having also been #sentenced to the timeloop tumbler but in a different location so she and lace weren’t able to keep eachother company #I’m still working out what I want to do with her character tho I have ideas but nothing concrete #she’s existed conceptually for a couple months now but I have been mostly prioritizing the basic worldbuilding and story set up #but now that I have that done I’ve been slowly chipping at fleshing out the main cast so that means demonstrator too #I kind of want her and lace to be doomed toxic yuri post loops but again it depends

#its so weird. i feel like march 5th went on for more than a day somehow. i guess that's just bc we were awake for just abt all of it #my dad wanted to start doing things immediately so he was calling and scheduling all day. we went to the funeral home we went to the store #and it was weird bc as we were moving around it was like wow we r a 4 person family now. this is it. and theres so much to do after a person #dies. or at least there is when they were loved so much and jesus christ my mom was one of the best ppl a LOT of ppl knew. she did so much #for so so many ppl. and with her childhood she had every reason to b a fuck up but no she was kind and selfless and amazing. her mother is #trying to bask in the attention of her death when its like: truely go fuck urself. her being such a good person has nothing to do with u. u #treated her appallingly. fuck off. and fucking everyone knows it. god. she is a product of her grandparents kindness. and it sounds like her #dad was amazing like her. but he tragically died in a car wreck when she was 3. she was in the car. no one in my mums family believes in a #god now. too many bad things happened to the shining gems in a collection of wild alcoholics. but its not all bad. my family's staying close #my dad is taking it hard bc this means hes alone now and my mum took care of so many things bc she was so smart and he feels so dumb. he #feels he didnt deserve her. hes working on giving more hugs now. and hes using us to anxiously talk things out the way he did with mom #which is good. i cant imagine if this happened when we werent 3 adults and he was windowed with 3 kids to raise himself. and its funny. were #saying things we never would have told her. we looked thru pictures of her and she was so so beautiful. a total smoke show. my parents were #a cute couple who produced cute kids. and my mom had trouble communicating and being affectionate tho we knew she loved us there was #distance. theres a pic of my dad pulling her close and shes being tippef towarf her while standing away and thats indicitive of their #relationship. they were 2 partners who lived together independently and that worked but its sad bc my mum couldnt b vulnerable in her #expression. ppl r being so kind tho. ill be in ohio now for like 2.5 more weeks as the funeral stuff shakes out. we have to have 2 bc she #grew up away from her and so many ppl loved her in both locations. she was a popular lady. its so weird to b here on pause. but i feel clear #in my head. i think this will change a lot of my outlook on life. its nice to focus on the person she was and not the horrible 12hrs where i #saw her half dead. i cant imagine how awful it was for my sisters and dad to see her downslide into death. she didnt expect this to b The #Fever that killed her but it did and now she'll never finish a million things. and the house is full of pill bottles and all her junk and #unopened amazon packages and a truck with the fuel left on empty. bc she was an absent minded goofball. ay. well miss her so much #unrelated

Why the fuck would anyone want a remake for Final Fantasy VIII or IX? And I don't mean a slightly cleaned up port, I'm talking about what they did to FF VII. No I don't want voices added-- I've had years to determine what those characters sound like, I don't want some patently incorrect voice foisted on them now. Nor do I want new scenes, new mini games, "realistic" makeovers for the characters or any other unnecessary changes that will turn a beloved gaming experience into some uncanny-valley-ed version of itself. If you actually enjoyed these games originally I have no idea why you would want that to happen.

#squaresoft becoming square enix basically killed what was special about their games #I enjoyed ff xii but it was the last thing they produced I cared about and nothing they've done has interested me since #it's all so... flat?#like before those games always inspired a little frisson of wonder and I looked forward to the experience #of discovering the game and its locations music secrets and little unique moments #Xiii and on that was gone and idk what they did to kill it #and it wasn't just the ff series I loved squaresoft games across the board #the chrono games? legend of mana? brave fencer musashi? threads of fate? even the bouncer for fucks sake #they all had this uniqueness to them where the settings were genuinely involving and magical and there was just this wonderful Flavor #and that was irrevocably lost almost immediately post-enix merger #why would I want the people making these flat husk looking games to start meddling with what made their beloved classics what they were #✝️✝️✝️

so it’s like. the significance of location and setting in the waking hours because the normalcy there provides good contrast but also establishes what “normal” looks like before the weirdness and unreality of the river creeps into it and starts eating it from the inside out. but also thinking about making those normal spaces liminal and weird in their own right is fun fodder for the brain. like okay lights out in the dorms and masato’s hanging off a couch upside down. the back of the school where there’s those vending machines tashiro was talking about, standing disgruntled reflected in the glass because he can’t make a decision on what he wants. school hallways during blue hour, walking away at a brisk pace because a lot was happening all at once. that kind of thing. have I lost you yet

#the island #1980 #peter benchley #michael ritchie #michael caine #david warner #angela punch mcgregor #frank middlemass #don henderson #dudley sutton #colin jeavons #jeffrey frank #brad sullivan #zakes mokae #ricky rincon #susan bredhoff #ennio morricone #hot mess of a film. the producers paid Benchley a record breaking 2.5 million for the rights to his novel‚ gave him refusal rights on cast #and location‚ a cut of the gross and even a percentage of soundtrack sales. they were expecting another Jaws megahit and boy did they #miscalculate. a strange and difficult to categorize movie: it opens on strong gore horror but quickly settles into adventure film mode as #Caine's journalist (and son) investigate missing boats in the Bermuda triangle and stumble across an island of pirate descendants still #plying their cutthroat trade. that these pirates are played by some of the finest Brit character actors of the era is one of the chief #positives here: my boy Davey W is their leader‚ Colin Jeavons their legal expert and mystic scribe‚ Dudley Sutton their medic and Don #Henderson one of their most fierce buccaneers. that's all a lot of fun for your average old tv freak (guilty) but for such a resoundingly #weird set up and (let's be honest) silly idea‚ this is strangely unenthusiastic. Warner in particular is badly served‚ his chief antagonist #never afforded the fearsome stature and moments of menace that the character is so clearly calling out for. Angela P M fares little better #with her character‚ after an astounding entrance completely caked in mud and looking entirely inhuman‚ gradually fading into the background #it's... idk. problems in scripting‚ chiefly‚ and in the rather flat direction of Ritchie (most known for his work in broad comedy). made #a good deal weirder or a great deal nastier this might have had some real impact and ended up an unlikely cult classic. as it is‚ it was a #financial bomb and I'm sorry to say it isn't any great stretch to see why. fun enough for fools but no great time to be had alas

its always wild to me when a fic mentions like a specific university especially one with like no relation to the setting of the show,, because its suddenly like wait I Know that Place and it becomes a unnecessarily shocking dichotomy between fantasy and reality for me

like wym crowley and aziraphale are students at university of chicago when i know where that is and even have a minute miniscule connection to that place ??? (i was rejected from their school)

i love when a video game has mastery over its ambience 😩

#i’m talking fallout dishonored bioshock resident evil etc.#indie games like oxenfree and edith finch #the environment lives and breathes and knows what its about #a curated and intentional ambience is guaranteed immersion (for me at least)#lis is what reminded me of this. that game has many manyyy flaws but it keeps its atmosphere very centered it knows what it wants u to feel #in each location via color and clutter and haze and lighting and ambient sounds and music + lack of #it’s very easy to produce cookie cutter video games and i jst think the first step towards setting them apart is environment #like mass effect excels at ambience and is like the gold standard in this regard imo #which is why it stands out SO much in the scifi genre its become almost a league of its own #anyways. rambling again #anyways.txt #delete later
