The fact that the USA is functionally impossible to escape if you're not upper middle class is honestly dystopian
#ive been thinking a lot about moving to another country#gf is open to the idea but still very unsure about being in a new place so far from family and friends#but even if we were both 100% all in#the cost of 2 adult plane tickets#just one way. not including anything else like a place to stay. food. transport. etc#just 2 plane tickets. is more than an entire months rent#to ANY of our countries of choice#and sure pretty much all of the countries we would choose have better minimum wage and QOL laws#but trying to get a visa? good fucking luck#also trying to take into consideration like#local civil rights#for ourselves (gay. trans. jewish. pagan. etc)#but also how they treat their local bipoc#how they treat the homeless and impoverished#cost of living and more#like iceland was NUMBER ONE on our list until we found out how aggressively White they are#like worse than the us and canada combined White#and so obscenely expensive#“gay utopia!” sure#for the rich#right now the only one im still really considering is amsterdam#i know its not Great but its the best out of the ones we've considered#still much more diverse#and even though its expensive they do have MUCH better minimum wage laws#but uh. thatz all assuming we can ever even escape here

A federal court judge has ruled that parents in Ohio don’t have the right to challenge a trans-inclusive school bathroom policy.
A case brought by parents and students in the Bethel Local School District (BLSD) in November sought to prohibit trans and non-binary students in the region from using toilets and other facilities consistent with their gender identity.
But, in a ruling issued on Monday (7 August), Judge Michael Newman decreed that the accusations brought by the group did not “pass legal muster” to warrant further consideration.
“Not every contentious debate concerning matters of public importance presents a cognisable federal lawsuit,” Newman wrote in his ruling opinion.
During a school board meeting in January 2022, BLSD announced it had implemented policies allowing transgender students to use communal toilets consistent with their gender identity.
Several months later, a group of parents filed a legal challenge, arguing that their parental rights were being infringed upon by not having a public meeting to discuss the matter.
They further argued that a previous policy, which had no protections for trans students, did not violate Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which states that no person in the US shall exclude or discriminate against students on the basis of sex.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Ohio argued that the plaintiffs lacked standing for the Title IX claim and that citing parental rights did not immediately require the school to adhere to the group’s demands.
Dismissing the case, Newman wrote that parents do not have a “constitutional right” to revoke school policies on toilet usage.
ACLU Ohio deputy legal director, David Carey, said the ruling reaffirmed that the Constitution is not a vehicle to “compel discrimination.”
He explained: “Nothing in the constitutional guarantees of parenting rights, equal protection or free exercise of religion, mandates that transgender students be excluded from gender-appropriate communal restrooms on the basis of their classmates’ beliefs and values.”
“For public schools to function, one student’s or family’s religious beliefs cannot provide a basis to exclude another student from full participation in the school environment.”
In its legal intervention arguments, the ACLU wrote that it believed the public has a “strong interest” in advancing policies that affirmatively protect transgender students and create inclusive school environments.
The LGBTQ & HIV Project staff attorney at the ACLU, Malita Picasso, said the court’s decision made it “resoundingly clear” that the rights of trans students are “not in conflict” with the rights of their peers.
“No student should have to fear discriminatory treatment every morning they walk into school, and this ruling brings us closer to the day no transgender student has to,” she added.

“Soldier,” Vengeance of the Moon Knight (Vol. 2/2024), #3.
Writer: Jed MacKay; Penciler and Inker: Alessandro Cappuccio; Colorist: Rachelle Rosenberg; Letterer: Cory Petit
#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Vengeance of the Moon Knight#Vengeance of the Moon Knight vol. 2#Vengeance of the Moon Knight 2024#Moon Knight comics#latest release#Soldier#Tigra#Greer Nelson#I love this distinction between what Moon Knight does/did in vol. 9 compared to other heroes#don’t get me wrong I obviously love Spider-Man (and only to a slightly lesser extent Daredevil) but this is a cool difference#feels a little more grounded almost like community defense as opposed to a high-flying cape issue#also fascinating comparing to a drug implying these low level villains are thrill seekers/adrenaline junkies#but most critically…hmmm….this may just be more indicative of my own perspective than anything (bear with me)#but interestingly those last two text boxes on finding the balance between keeping a group too scared to make a move#and not so scared that they get desperate/have nothing left to lose#is very similar to the basis of a theory of counterinsurgency#that an iron fist can keep a group from developing means + will to organize but the ruling regime must be careful#to not be too cruel or else it will push the group into survival mode/win it sympathy from the local or international population#(it’s very reminiscent of Machiavelli’s The Prince)#Mind you it’s a theory usually entertained by authoritarian regimes where people have few de facto civil rights#and its efficacy/sustainability’s debatable as it takes one hiccup with the regime (markedly weak ruler/secession crisis/natural disaster/#excessive use of force/etc) for the insurgency to flair up again#Marc’s past with the CIA is mentioned in this issue so I wonder if that’s what this is all about#but uuuuuh yeah do with that info what you will sorry hahaha#don’t mind me rambling in the tags

kirby right back at ya is so cool
the premise of an ancient cosmic evil finding conquering worlds by force no longer feasible in a modernizing intergalactic civilization, so he starts a corporation and shifts to seeding his influence through products and services is an absolutely killer concept
#the show paints such a rich landscape of civilization at its different stages too#from barely-industrial local communities to planetary kingdoms to advanced digitally-connected interstellar economies#the writers were grade a worldbuilders#and the way they weave an unfolding cyclical generational narrative on the galactic stage is still as compelling as ever#not to mention the remarkable layered psychology of the characters#talk about going above and beyond for a kid-aimed videogame tie-in#what a masterpiece#huge props to the kirby crew at 4kids for absolutely nailing right back at ya despite what the company's known for doing to other series#one of the only series i know where both the japanese and english versions are independently worth watching in their own right#hoshii no kaabii#kirby right back at ya

Agh don’t know if I care about wc enough right now :|
Fantasy cultures are just all I can think about. Like making trade routes, cultures, styles. Don’t even know if I want it to necessarily be just cats.
Since I’m not as solidly set down with my project maybe I could add other animals into the mix. Any suggestions are welcome
#my main idea is foxes ofc. maybe a prominent line of them in the Terrafield#or a partnership between them and a local fox group with animals crossing between#sorta been learning more about ancient civilizations and how they grow#getting into Greece right now and it’s sooo cool I love ocean based societies. especially with their terrain and ship making#ruse rambles#my passion project#also imagining bats but idk about that

me, 30 minutes ago: its 1 am and i should sleep <3
me, immediately after: refreshes tumblr, decidedly does not go to sleep
#i say this like its funny haha#but tbh it is mostly because i am so fucking. Devastated about the horrible shit happening to palestinians#i saw so many videos and pictures today of such horrible things that they’re suffering through right now#and im seeing it through a screen from my safe little bubble in my house and its still destroying me emotionally and mentally#i cant imagine the fear and horror they must be feeling in gaza#and the fact that they have probably felt this fear and horror for a very long time because of israel’s ethnic cleansing of their people#im in such a privileged position and the least i can do is spread awareness and i donated what i could and i have plans to reach out to my l#local government and encourage them to speak up and condemn the genocide of palestine and im looking for local protests and shit like#im gonna do what i can but i know i cant do enough as just a singular individual with low social impact and not a lot of money#but i’ll still do what i can no matter what#i wouldnt be able to live with myself knowing i sat back and said nothing while the palestinians suffered so much#which honestly i already did because i wasn’t educated about it prior to this past week and thats entirely my fault#i mean partially i know its western civilization not showing the horrors that israel has committed but i try to stay in the loop on things#and try to be aware of things happening in the world and i failed to become aware of this before now#i could have been doing more for years to try and spread awareness for palestine and i never did and i wish i could go back and change that#but i cant#but what i CAN do is speak up now that i know and spread awareness and refuse to let palestine go down without a fight#sorry this is a fandom sideblog i know ive been posting a lot on my main blog and i do need to go to bed and whatever#its just hard to sleep knowing that as i sit here safe and comfortable in my bed there are children families innocent people dying in gaza#and the world is actively and successfully trying to paint palestine as the bad guys#its fucking awful and despicable

I’m fucking venting here bc I’m angry and don’t have anyone to talk to and I’m not sure if this is political correct or right or whatever but I’m fucking pissed - I’m a public school teacher who works in the inner city and this year alone there have been two shootings in my neighborhood involving students not dying school hours- and one student who went missing due to gang ties (they were found ALIVE a DAYS later) -
I’m fucking TIRED I’m FREAKED OUT and I’m ANGRY because I have to go into work tomorrow and I have to have that conversation with the kids during our SEL block because they will have questions and bc they are in middle school some will not know how to process it and will joke while others will be genuinely upset
and I feel nauseous thinking about the fact that my mother and four of my closest friends are all going through the same fucking shit as teachers at different schools right now- and my roommate who is trans- and unrelated to his identity is also kinda an asshole- has been shitting on me all night about how I’m not I’m danger like he is and how I don’t know his pain (and while I’m not making excuses I’m an openly gay teacher who works directly with the lgbt students and activly educated my kids on trans rights AND I work for a nonprofit organization that directly works to protect trans and queer rights and JUST LAST WEEK put out a video for our organization on antitrans laws - I’m not saying I fucking get what it’s like to be trans but Jesus fuck I’m fighting the fight for trans youth more than you are working at Whole Foods) why the FUCK are you quantifying suffering, why the FUCK are you lashing out at ME of all people, and why the fuck are you telling a public school teacher in inner city Boston that I have no idea what it’s like to be afraid- motherfucker I’m angry I’m sorry but why the fuck are you monopolizing suffering why do you think you have the right to talk to me this fucking way. I get you are scared but you work in Whole Foods in Massachusetts- the bluest state there is- )
there is no fucking cap on grief- sorry I’m upset at this as well but you saying it doesn’t directly effect me is just so fucking ignorant and suffering shouldn’t be quantifiable mf we are on the same fucking side why are you infighting right now (and I know this isn’t relevant and this is entirely unrelated to him being trans but god he is so fucking sexist- saying shit like I have no idea what it’s like to have my bodily autonomy at risk as if roe v wade didn’t get overturned THIS year???) sometimes it pisses me off like fucking sorry I’m being over emotional and overreacting to a school shooting as a fucking public school teacher GOD I should be allowed to be angry too in my own goddamn apartment-
you don’t get to sit on your high horse and say you suffer more than me and that I’m not allowed to be afraid ok I’m done I’m gonna go in tomorrow and make sure to hug my one openly trans kid extra hard bc I know they are suffering just like I know my roomate is suffering and needs a place to express his anger- I get I’m an easy target bc I’m a safe person to lash out at and I’m not telling anyone how to grieve and I know a lot of this is just knee jerk reaction to violence and anger- I just wish he wasn’t expressing it at the one fucking person who doesn’t deserve it, like fuck, the one thing people always say about public school teachers is that we have it TOO easy, especially the night after a school shooting
*Also fuck terfs and fuck anyone who is using a tragedy as an excuse to hate trans people*
#he keeps talking about how cis people need to do better#as if a) I haven’t talked in depth about my own gender identity and how I’m not entirely aligned with ‘cis womanhood’ as a lesbian#with a complexed identity#and b) even if I was cis (which in most cases it’s just easier to say that I am) IM THE ONE GETTING MY FUCKING BOOTS DIRTY HERE#IM THE ONE BRINGING IN BOOKS FOR MY QUEER KIDS WHEN THE LIBRARY DOESNT HAVE ANY#IM THE ONE ADVOCATING FOR CALLING OUR TRANS KIDS BY THEIR PREFERED PRONOUNS AND NAME#IM THE ONE GOING TO MEETINGS TWICE A WEEK TO ORGANIZE QUEER EVENTS IN RURAL AMERICA THAT PUT TRANS WOMEN AND DRAG QUEENS FRONT AND CENTER#IM THE ONE RESEARCHING LOCAL CIVIL RIGHTS LAWS ABOUT OUR TOWN DENYING APPROVAL FOR OUR EVENT ON THE BASIS OF CROSSDRESSING#NOT BEINF CHILD FRIENDLY (we are working on it dw we have a team on this )#IM LACING UP MY DYKE BOOTS EVERY FUCKING DAY AND SHAKING HANDS WITH SISTERS WHO HAVE WATCHED THEIR FRIENDS AND LOVERS DIE- INCLUDING#A SISTER WHO WAS AT FUCKING STONEWALL#I’m not trying to pull the whole ‘I’m gay so I get it ‘ card bc that’s not cool when cis people do that shit#but I’m a fucking public school teacher- I’m allowed to grieve a fucking school shooting FUCK#god why are you fucking quantifying suffering mf you work in a grocery store your life and the lives of others aren’t on the line daily#^^that also isn’t a dig at his work - working in a grocery store is a fine career and he deserves a living wage and dignity#but also… there haven’t been 130 shootings at Whole Foods market in 2023 alone so maybe fucking let me be angry#god#i really hope this shit doesn’t get twisted I just need to vent#if you don’t like this just block me idc I’m not fighting anymore#tw school shooting#tw gun violence#tw gun mention#school shooting

#my local pride festival might get cancelled bc they passed a bill in the house outlawing public drag performances#and it makes me feel really really weird#bc its not the city telling them to cancel its the org saying theyre going to cancel it preemptively if the bill passes the senate#and it just doesnt feel like the spirit of pride to see an attempted genocide of queer people#and respond by telling us to call our senators and if calling our senators doesnt work then i guess we cant have pride#like are we not going to do civil disobedience? its pride for fucks sake#if youre going to lay down and hide every time they come for us we're going to be right back in the 1950s#but ok#sydposting

I'm sorry, but blaming voter apathy for how bad things are is victim blaming. People who feel that "they're all the same anyways" are people who are bombarded with shit like this:
To blame people drowning in a constant stream of Democrats acting like Republicans and feeling hopeless about it for the prevalence of neo-nazis is fucking bullshit.
The Iraq War was bipartasan. The Defense of Marriage Act was Democrats. "Tough on Crime", mandatory minimum sentencing, these were Democrat policies. They ran Hillary "Superpredators" Clinton against Trump.
The reason there's neo-nazis is because this is a profoundly racist and bigoted country, and while one party is perfectly happy to openly support the worst of the worst, the other party doesn't want to alienate them in case they need them for the next midterm. The end result is the same, bigoted policies and laws being passed by both sides, as the marginalized and vulnerable are left to rot.
One side wants your community dead. The other side is a bit sad about it but considers your community dying to be a worthy sacrifice in the name of bipartanship and courting "moderates". You're dead either way.
Forever thinking about how, on election day in 2016, I wore a shirt with an American flag on it because it was what was clean. And the 20-ish year old bagging my groceries made a snide remark about it, followed by 'I didn't vote, they're all the same anyways.' And a fellow grocery worker chimed in agreement that he wasn't voting for the same reason.
And now I can't go to a local drag event without having to walk through a gauntlet of nazis.
I realize that the election is a year and a half away, but please don't fall for the 'they're the same' rhetoric this time around. Both candidates will suck, but they'll suck in different ways and one of them wants my community dead.
#for the record I do actually vote#and yeah local elections are incredibly important#but voter apathy is not to blame for nazis#the fact that nazis continued to rein free while democrats controlled all 3 branches of government and did nothing with it#while the president reminisces about his segregationist friends#and lies about being part of the civil rights movement#that's why there's voter apathy

((I still have no idea what to make Zargabaath's bureau be focused on sdfghjdf
#local cryptid sighting (ooc)#((torn between having him essentially run the Archadian equivalent of the ntsb/faa#but with him handling both military and civil cases#or having him do something with international relations because he has the right temperament for it#since he's reasonable and calmer compared to the other magisters and would be respectful regardless of how he feels))#((also yes I still need to get to his bio but I'm focusing on ffxii week so it's on the back-burner heh#and then I'll be balancing that between me trying to figure out a new dnd character))

Had a little over a week with my bf and spent the whole time smoking weed but now he's back home (2000 miles away) and it's time to take a break from the smook and focus on my Career Writing
Imma be honest with ya chat I struggle with a staggering insecurity despite the fact that I know I've got talent People enjoy my fanfiction and what original stuff I've published sits at 4.5 stars minimum on the kindle store
Imposter Syndrome is real and I wish I could share my original work more casually but with how cancellation is a thing and people freak out over the least little shit and also because I'm white (nothing worse to openly be in a creative field than white)
I absolutely must separate me the original author from me the fanfic author :( and it means that I suffer alone a lot on that front
#gallows talk#bitch bitch bitch#etc#it's so dumb that no longer do you have to commit a crime to be executed#really feels like we are living in a nightmare in terms of creativity#i've really just checked out of most forms of media at this point and just enjoy what I liked from before the first wave of retardation#drowned us around 2016#i need to finish learning japanese to really indulge or try out any anime or manga because localizers have an agenda#I'm not here to be political or take a stance or tell you who to vote for#I'm here to write and entertain and have fun and give fun to the people who enjoy what I write#Why does everyone have to act like they're running for mothafuckin office#Why does everyone act like they are a crusader of righteousness#I'm generalizing ofc#Guess what I don't care who you vote for because I dont see people who disagree with me as life or death enemies#I feel like I am screaming at a crowd of escaped zoo animals fighting each other to calm down#People got no smarts no nuance no anything it's always “my side is right and the other side is wrong on EVERYTHING”#People are overly politicized these days#Identity politics are the worse thing to happen to society yes that includes the southern people obsessed with the civil war#that includes everyone of all identities I identify as NOTHING which is technically an identity so guess what I'm retarded too
