You never thought you’d be here, rising before the first light of dawn with a bow clenched tightly in your hand, trying desperately to find a stillness that refused to come. The air was cool, heavy with the scent of damp earth and lingering ash, and your grip tightened against the wood as if the bow itself could anchor you.
Each morning, you repeated the same ritual: stalking the wilds, ears tuned to the sharp, satisfying sound of stone slicing through flesh. It was routine now, the kind of focused repetition that drowned out the noise in your mind, the questions you refused to let yourself answer.
You never thought you’d become this person—someone who sought refuge not in peace but in the violent act of hunting, in the rhythmic pull of a string and the release of an arrow. You never thought you’d run, not from a battle, but from silence itself. And yet here you were, moving through the brush, your steps faltering as you lost the rhythm that once came so easily.
You hated feeling so futile, useless to questions you knew you didn’t have any of the answers to. It was dumb to you, to still think any of this mattered after all these eclipses, that he mattered. He shouldn’t be. I mean, genuinely, was he even worth a thought anymore?
It used to feel a little good to hope for more despite the tragedy of your friendship, or lack thereof. That hope, fragile as it was, had carried you through the cracks of loss and resentment. But now, that hope felt like a liability, a dangerous thread pulling you toward something you had no business holding onto. Hope felt dangerous. He felt dangerous.
So now, you did everything you could to rid him of your line of sight, to distance yourself from the memories that clung to the edges of your mind like shadows. Nowadays, around the campfire, laughter echoed, and new friendships began to take root—bonds forged in the shared heat of training and the quiet moments of reprieve. But never with him. You avoided his gaze, even more, his voice, his presence. You couldn’t even bury the ache beneath layers of forced smiles and polite conversation anymore, you had to push him out of your life completely.
Like he never existed.
Still, despite your best efforts to focus on the good in front of you, a quiet, stubborn thought gnawed at the back of your mind. It whispered that no matter how many stories you shared with these new faces, none of them truly knew you as Lo’ak did. He had seen parts of you that even you struggled to face, understood pieces of your soul you hadn’t yet put into words.
And it sucked. It sucked to feel like you were missing something, even as you sat surrounded by laughter and warmth. It wasn’t fair to the people who had shown you kindness, to the bonds you were trying so hard to nurture, who would never leave you in the dark as he did, but the feeling persisted—a dull ache that reminded you of everything you were trying to leave behind and everything you were still losing in the process.
Stop thinking so much, you reminded yourself, taking in a deep breath. I’m okay, you steadied, regaining a balance that never felt the same as it used to. Refocusing sharply on your target, you didn’t hesitate. The string of your bow snapped, releasing the arrow with precision and purpose. Its flight was swift, and with a clean, sharp strike, it met its mark. The sturmbeast staggered, its powerful frame trembling as it succumbed.
You moved without pause, leaping gracefully toward the fallen creature. Kneeling by its side, you placed a steady hand on its heaving form, murmuring a quiet prayer of gratitude to Eywa for the life it had given, the warmth of its life still lingering beneath your touch. Then, bowing your head, with a swift, deliberate motion, you ended its suffering, granting it a merciful release and ensuring its spirit returned to the Great Mother in peace. Its body soon turned colder than your hand.
Thank Eywa.
“What are you doing here?”
You masked your surprise when the familiar voice reached your ears—it was Neteyam. Of course, he’d found you here. He’d been assigned to spot the human ambushes, a task that had him covering far more ground than his brother, or so you’d heard. His patrol extended beyond just the Hallelujah Mountains because the Sky People had returned 2 weeks ago.
“Just hunting—” you started, but as you turned around, your words faltered.
Your eyes locked on the figure standing before you, and for a moment, everything inside you froze. A whirlwind of emotions rushed through you as you struggled to process the sight before you.
“Not the brother you were expecting?” Lo’ak’s voice was light, and playful, as a small grin tugged at the corner of his lips. His hands rested confidently on his hips as he let out a long, exaggerated sigh. “Yeah, yeah, didn’t expect it either. You don’t have to act all shocked, y’know. I know how laid-back you are, [Y/n].”
Hearing your name slip from his lips sent a jolt through you, like an electric shock that you weren’t prepared for. It had been so long since you’d heard him say it like that, in his voice, the way it felt almost familiar—yet, unsettling.
But, the memories, the betrayal, the hurt, the lies—every single ounce of it flood back all at once. A sharp wave of anger surged through you as you stood up quickly, grabbing your bow with a little more force than necessary, the edges of your vision burning with the heat of your frustration. “What are you doing here?” you questioned, voice tight, a controlled fury simmering just beneath the surface.
“I asked you that question first.”Lo’ak took a step closer, his eyes scanning you like he was trying to figure you out—like he always did. His gaze flicked to the sturmbeast at your feet, and he let out a low whistle. “One arrow? That’s pretty impressive...,” he said, his voice low, almost with admiration. “No one but you at our age could do that, not yet.”
“I don’t need your validation,” you muttered, crouching down to start collecting your meal, ignoring the strange feeling in your stomach.
“Never said you did.” He shrugged, but there was a lilt in his voice. “[Y/n]. So, so independent. Even with, you know—” his eyes flicked pointedly to your thigh, where the faint scar of an old bullet wound lingered. “—that.”
“What do you want?” you asked, voice clipped as you turned back to him, trying to ignore the way your stomach twisted in all sorts of directions. “If you’re here to piss me off, after everything, just leave.”
Lo’ak’s expression hardened, and for a moment, he looked like he wanted to say something. But then he sighed, running a hand through his braids.
You asked, baffled that he didn’t move even a single inch, “What are you even doing here? Isn’t Neteyam supposed to be covering this area?”
“He was. I switched with him. Figured I’d take the scenic route today. Lucky me, huh?” Though, Lo’ak had not even a modicum of amusement in his voice.
Keeping your gaze fixed on the carcass of the sturmbeast, you refused to look at him any longer. “I’ll manage,” you muttered, bending down to retrieve your bow, to which Lo’ak stopped you.
“Nuh-uh,” he said, drawing the word out like he didn’t believe you, his gaze falling to your leg. “Over rough terrain? With that leg?”
Your jaw tightened, the irritation crawling up your spine, making your tail flick erratically behind you. “I don’t need your help, Lo’ak.”
It would’ve been so easy to let it end there, to close off that door and turn away from him once again. To let him leave, just like before. But, of course, you didn’t. You had to say one more thing, almost as if this time you could willfully cause him to disappear. “Go back to pretending like I don’t exist. We were doing really well, ever since, weren’t we?”
Lo’ak’s ears twitched, he didn’t miss the way venom laced every syllable you spoke, mixed with the sharpness in your tone. “Right,” he said, his voice flat but edged with something darker. “Pretending you don’t exist, huh?”
You felt your pulse quicken, a tremor of anger running through you, your fingers tightened instinctively around the grip of your bow. You met his eyes with a seething intensity.
“Yeah, no. That was all you,” he shot back.
You wanted so bad to argue, to fight back at the audacity, but before you could protest, Lo’ak crouched down, tying the sturmbeest’s legs with practised ease. “Look, we can keep being pissed off all you want, but ever since I noticed your leg, you’re not carrying this thing back alone. I won’t let you.”
You picked up the weight of the sturmbeast as if to prove his point, your muscles tensing with the effort. “Fine, but this will be the last time we speak to each other, got it?”

A few days ago…
Lo’ak woke up to the soft, rhythmic sound of breathing beside him, the warmth of another body pressed lightly against his side. He blinked up at the thatched ceiling of the hut, his heart already sinking before his mind fully caught up. Turning his head ever so slightly, he found Sänika lying next to him, her arm draped lazily over his chest. Her face was peaceful, almost angelic, in the pale morning light streaming through the entrance. Her braids spilt across the woven mat like rivers of shadow, her lips parted in quiet sleep.
He stared at her for a moment, guilt already coiling in his stomach like a trapped serpent.
Oh, god. This was so sick.
His throat tightened as he looked away, his eyes darting back to the ceiling as though salvation could be found in the straw-and-wood lattice. Sänika was kind—too kind. She wasn’t the same as she used to be. She’s funny, easygoing, the sort of person who made everyone feel seen. Beautiful in a way that didn’t need effort. She deserved someone who looked at her and saw her.
But all Lo’ak could think about when he looked at her was you. And that? That felt so deeply, disgustingly wrong he wanted to crawl out of his own skin.
Fuck. Fuck. What was he doing?
He carefully, painstakingly slid out from under her arm, wincing when the motion caused her to stir. She sighed in her sleep, curling into the warm spot he left behind, and his chest squeezed painfully. He ran a hand down his face, shaking his head as if it would physically dislodge the tangled mess in his mind. Every nerve screamed at him to leave the hut before she woke up.

“Neteyam, I’ve fucked up.”
The soft hum of the morning light filtered through the fabric of the tent, casting a pale glow over the space. Neteyam reclined against his hammock, one leg hanging lazily over the edge, while his fingers absently scratched at his jaw, lost in thought. He looked at Lo’ak, whose posture was hunched and tense, the weight of something heavy on his chest.
“When do you not, baby brother? You want the truth?” Neteyam’s voice was casual, though his eyes had an unmistakable sharpness. His gaze softened just slightly as if he were reading his younger brother’s uncertainty like an open book.
Lo’ak’s eyes darted around the tent, avoiding his brother’s steady gaze, but there was no escaping the fact that Neteyam knew. He always knew.
“You’ve hurt a lot of girls’ feelings before, Lo’ak,”
Lo’ak sighed, rubbing the back of his neck, feeling the sting of those words like a reminder of every mistake he’d ever made. “Yeah, thanks for the reminder.”
“And one of the most being…” Neteyam raised an eyebrow, his gaze narrowing at Lo’ak with an unspoken understanding. “You know who I’m talking about, right?” he said, leaning forward slightly, his voice lower now. “[Y/n], is she the one who’s got you all worked up? I saw you two talking for the first time in years yesterday!”
Lo’ak’s stomach tightened at the mention of you. The one he’d avoided, the one he’d left behind, the one who had no reason to even speak to him anymore. “You know, she still hates me, Neteyam.”
“Of course she does, you’re a skawxng!” The older brother studied his younger brother, watching the way his shoulders slumped with uncertainty. “What are you gonna do about it?”
“I don’t know,” Lo’ak said, the words thick with the frustration and helplessness he couldn’t seem to shake off. “I don’t know…”
For a moment, there was silence. The only sound was the soft rustling of the leaves outside the tent, the morning wind carrying the faintest sounds of the jungle waking up. Neteyam’a eyes bore into Lo’ak’s unsure figure, searching for the answer that Lo’ak himself didn’t seem to have.
The boy looked down, his mind racing as he wrestled with the flood of emotions crashing over him. He hadn’t expected this conversation to stir up so much—so many regrets, so much doubt, so much want for something that felt so far out of reach. “When Sänika and I kissed… it was out of a desperation. But, not as thought it was for her. It more or so felt like… I was running from something—someone. Myself.”
The older brother sighed, as if weighing his words carefully. Finally, he spoke, his tone even but pointed.
“Then, maybe, you should break up with her.”

The jungle below roared with chaos, the unmistakable sound of a human ambush erupting like a storm. Screams of warriors, the clash of weapons, and the metallic screeches of enemy machines tore through the dense air. Jake Sully, the Olo’eyktan, led the charge on his Ikran, barking commands to the warriors below, his voice a rallying cry against the invaders.
The younger soldiers, yourself included, circled high above the battlefield as spotters. From this vantage point, you tracked the enemy’s calculated movements—humans and their monstrous machines—relaying crucial information to the warriors on the ground.
Your Ikran dipped and soared, keeping pace with the others in your squad. Even amid the panic, you felt the steady rhythm of your companion’s wings and the reassuring presence of your squadmates nearby. It was your duty—your role—and you embraced it. But the battlefield was unpredictable, and even the best preparation couldn’t account for everything.
One moment, edge of the sky you moniter seemed clear, but then the next, enemy fire zipped through the air, cutting dangerously close to your group. You veered sharply, your body instinctively leaning with your Ikran as you narrowly avoided a direct hit.
A scream erupted behind you—sharp and guttural, slicing through the chaos like a knife. Your chest tightened, panic surging through your veins.
And then it happened.
A sharp pain bloomed in your side, fiery and immediate. Your breath caught as your vision blurred, and the world tilted violently. The cries of your squadmates faded into the background as you felt yourself falling.
Through the haze, you heard a voice—a panicked, desperate voice you hadn’t expected to hear, calling out for you.
Lo’ak.
He saw you plummeting through the sky, your body limp and unresponsive, like a broken leaf torn from the branches. His chest seized and a breath punched out of him in a wave so fierce it blurred everything else.
The battle still raged, but Lo’ak’s only focus was you.
“Neteyam!” His voice cracked, raw and desperate. “It’s [Y/n]! She’s hit!”
Neteyam’s voice cut through the commlink, steady and commanding despite the chaos. “Bro! Stay on her! I’ll cover!”
But Lo’ak barely registered the words. His vision tunnelled, narrowing to the single, horrifying image of you falling toward the dense jungle canopy below. Everything else faded—the shouts of his squadmates, the hum of enemy gunfire, even the burning in his muscles as he gripped the reins of his Ikran tighter.
Not now. Not you. Not like this.
Lo’ak’s heart thundered in his chest, each beat crashing like war drums against his ribs, ticking seconds reminding him of how much little time he had. He tightened his grip on his Ikran as he forced it into a reckless dive, the creature’s screech of protest swallowed by the roar of the wind. The air stung his face, ripping tears from his eyes as he plunged after you.
The ground loomed closer with every breathless second. Through the tangled chaos of branches and leaves, he caught glimpses of your body, limp and free-falling—a sight that set his every being ablaze with panic.
Guilt struck him like a blade, sharp and merciless. Was the last time the last time?
This can’t be it. It can’t end like this. She doesn’t even know…
But deeper, a cruel voice whispered from the shadows of his mind: You don’t deserve to save her. Not after what you did. Not after you pushed her away.
He shoved the thought down, locking it away where it couldn’t slow him. There wasn’t time for regret or self-loathing. Not with you hurtling toward the ground. Not with the seconds slipping through his grasp, threatening to take you with them.
“You’re not dying today,” Tears blurred his vision as he urged his Ikran faster, pushing it past its limits. “Not on my watch.”
And then he reached you.
With a final, desperate swoop, his arms locked around your body in a frantic grasp. The collision was rough, the force of it jolting through him as his Ikran shrieked and struggled to steady its frantic, beating wings.
The warmth of your body against his sent a shiver down his spine—a reminder that you were still alive, still here, even if just barely. “I’ve got you.”
You stirred faintly, your eyes fluttering open for a brief moment. Even in your blurred, half-conscious state, your gaze met his. What he saw in your eyes—confusion, pain, something else he couldn’t quite place—shattered what little composure he had left.
Tears streaked his face as he tightened his grip on you, his heart aching with an intensity he hadn’t felt in years. He looked to the horizon, where Neteyam’s figure flew above. He nodded once, a silent agreement passing before Lo’ak headed his Ikran toward the healing tents.
As you faded in and out of consciousness, you felt the heat of his chest, his arms wrapped protectively around you. He pressed his forehead against yours, his tears hot against your skin. “You don’t get to do this. Not to me. Not after all this time.” His voice dropped, a whisper now, raw and trembling. “I can’t lose you to them—when I’m right here.”
He pulled back just enough to look at you, his eyes searching your pale face for any further sign of life. “Stay with me, okay? Just… stay.” His words were a command and a prayer, his voice breaking with the weight of both.
His Ikran dove toward the healing tents, the wind whipping past them, “Come on,” he pleaded, his voice low and strained, breaking with every word. “Please, please… don’t leave me. Don’t let me be too late.”
The healing tent was dim, the air thick with the familiar scent of herbs and the soft murmur of the forest outside. Mo’at was calm, an aura of certainty surrounding her as she worked. She didn’t rush, didn’t panic. But Lo’ak, his heart pounding in his chest, hovered at the edge of the mat where you lay, unmoving. His breathing was hitched and he couldn’t think clearly. The only thing he could focus on was the shallow rise and fall of your chest.
“Mo’at—Tsahik,” he rasped, his voice strained with desperation. “Please, you have to help her. It’s [Y/n]. She’s—she’s been hurt so bad. Please.”
Mo’at turned sharply at the sound of his voice, her eyes narrowing as they fell on you. Without hesitation, she gestured for her assistants to bring a mat, her commands rapid and clipped, carrying the authority of generations.
“Lay her down here. Quickly!” she ordered, her voice firm and unwavering. She knelt beside you, her hands already moving with precision, gathering herbs and ointments from nearby bowls. Her deft fingers crushed bright green leaves into a paste, mixing it with an oil that filled the air with a sharp, earthy aroma.
“Keep her steady,” she said to Lo’ak, barely sparing him a glance. She smeared the paste across the wound, the mixture sinking into your skin like it had a life of its own. Her chants began, low and rhythmic, as she pressed her hands over the injury, her fingers glowing faintly with the energy of Eywa. The air seemed to hum, charged with a warmth that pulsed in time with her words.
Lo’ak knelt beside you, his trembling hands hovering over your arm but not daring to interfere. His eyes darted between your pale face and Mo’at’s focused expression, hope and terror warring within him. “Is she gonna be okay?”
Mo’at didn’t answer at first, her concentration razor-sharp as she worked. She murmured another chant under her breath, her fingers moving with practiced precision to apply more of the healing paste to your wounds. One of her assistants handed her a roll of soft, woven bandages, which she began wrapping around your torso, her movements deliberate and sure.
“She is strong,” Mo’at said finally, her tone calm yet firm. “But her spirit walks a fine line. The healing will hold if she finds the will to stay.”
Tumblr media
A few hours later…
Mo’at’s steady gaze met his, and for a moment, she didn’t say anything. She simply assessed him, reading the raw panic in his eyes, the way his hands trembled as he reached out but then pulled back, as though he couldn’t bring himself to touch you just yet.
Mo’at’s lips parted, the wisdom in her eyes knowing far more than Lo’ak would ever let her see. She shook her head slightly, almost imperceptibly. “Boy,” she murmured, her voice a mixture of reprimand and understanding, “despite saving her, you have been foolish.”
Lo’ak’s expression remained dull, but she continued, pressing the pressure points along your injured body with expert care. Her hands were steady, almost sacred as they moved, and she wasn’t going to let him off the hook so easily.
“You think I don’t see it?” she asked, her voice still low, but sharp with the truth. “You think I don’t know what this is?” Her eyes flicked briefly to you, then back to Lo’ak. “She was your friend once, your companion. But, you were afraid. “You care for her, Lo’ak. I see it in the way you cannot leave her side. I see it the way your hands shake every time you think she might not breathe again. I see it in you.
She paused, eyes lingering slightly as if searching his soul. “I know what you’re thinking. All is not lost.”
His fingers gently traced over the soft skin of your hand, too afraid to squeeze, too afraid to do anything that might hurt you further. His hands found their way back to your wrist, as though touching you, even this way, could make a difference.
“I don’t know what to do,” Lo’ak said hoarsely.
“You do not need to fix what is already broken, child,” Mo’at said softly, her voice carrying the weight of years spent in the presence of Eywa. “What is torn can be mended, but only if you let go of your pride, your fear. If you will not hold her back, if you will not push her away again.”
She didn’t need to say more. The silence in the tent was louder than any words.
“She will live,” she said quietly, her voice almost a whisper, yet it held the weight of confirmation. “But only if you let her breathe when she wakes. If you do not smother her with the weight of your guilt.”
Tumblr media
The world around you was hazy, your vision a blur of shifting colours and dim shadows. The air felt heavy, thick with the overwhelming scent of healing herbs that clung to your skin, mixing with the familiar, earthy aroma of the jungle—a smell that, despite the circumstances, brought a sense of grounding. Every breath you took seemed to rattle your ribs, a sharp ache spreading through your body, but it was the pain in your side that was most consuming. The bandages felt tight, wrapped around your torso in an unrelenting embrace that pressed down on every wound, reminding you of how broken you felt.
For a moment, you wondered if this was real—if you were still stuck somewhere between the worlds of consciousness and unconsciousness. Your head spun with fragments of fading memories—flashes of chaos, of battle, of a cry in the distance—and then,
You froze.
You felt something else. Warmth. A presence beside you.
Lo’ak’s arm was draped across your waist, his fingers resting gently on your hip, a weight that both comforted and startled you. His proximity was overwhelming, too close, too intimate. It left you breathless, a sharp realization running through you—this was wrong. You shouldn’t be here, in this position, with him like this.
But there he was, fingers tightening just slightly, as though afraid you might vanish if he loosened his grip.
You blinked slowly, heart pounding in your chest. His steady breath was the only sound you could focus on. But, eventually, your breath caught in your throat, and you shifted uncomfortably, instinctively pushing his arm off of you.
Lo’ak jolted awake, his eyes widening as he registered the position you were in. Panic flickered across his face as he quickly scrambled to sit up. “Shit, shit, I— I’m sorry. I didn’t realise—”
But before he could finish, you tried to sit up, only for a sharp, agonizing pain to seize your body. A gasp escaped your lips, and Lo’ak was instantly by your side, his hands gently but firmly pushing you back down. His touch was urgent yet tender as if he couldn’t bear for you to move too much. “Hey, hey, no. Not yet,” he murmured, his voice steady but laced with concern. “You need to stay down. You shouldn’t be moving around like that.”
You were breathing heavily before you finally rested your head back on the woven pillow, letting out a strained breath as you held onto your torso. “What was it? A bullet wound? Ship inbound south?”
But Lo’ak couldn’t shake the image of you, pale and unconscious, lying in his arms.
“I thought I’d lost you,” he whispered, the rawness in his voice betraying the fear that still gripped him.
But everything in you screamed to pull away. Every part of you screamed for space, for freedom, from the confusion swirling in your chest. You didn’t want to feel this—didn’t want to feel him and everything else. Not now. Not after all this time.
You could still feel the weight of his touch lingering on your skin, even though he hadn’t moved. It felt like too much. Too much of everything—too many memories, too many emotions, too much hurt that you weren’t ready to face.
You turned your head, closing yourself off, instinctively seeking space from the one person who had always known you too well. “I’m fine,” you muttered, voice strained, as you tried to push past the moment, to erase the tension.
And that broke him.
“Don’t, please don’t turn away from me like that.”
Your chest tightened at the sound of his cracked desperation, and before you even realized it, the first tear slipped down your cheek, a silent testament to everything you’d been swallowing for so long. Then another. And another. The floodgates opened, and you couldn’t stop it. The rage, the heartbreak, and the confusion all collided inside you, and it felt like you were choking on it.
You wiped your face shortly before turning back to face him, refusing to let him see you as weak, but the tears kept coming and it felt like every breath you took was filled with the weight of all the years you’d spent holding this in.
“Why? Why can’t I?” Your voice cracked, each word trembling with the weight of your emotions, your sobs raw and desperate. Without thinking, you struck his chest, but the punch was weak—your fury still sharp, but tangled with something softer, something that hurt more than the anger itself. “You just decide leave my life for what seemed like forever, and now you’re back, begging me not to turn my back on you as if you didn’t do that to me first? Tell me, how—how does any of that make any sense? How is any of that fair?”
Lo’ak flinched at your touch, but he didn’t pull away. He didn’t fight back. He didn’t make excuses, didn’t try to defend himself. There were no words that could change the past. So, he stood there, letting the storm of your emotions crash over him. Every word, every tear, every breath you took felt like a weight he deserved to bear.
You grunted, frustration bubbling up inside you as you shoved him away again, the motion too weak to be anything but a desperate push for distance. You couldn’t stand being this close to him and yet feeling so far apart. “I know about Sänika—I know about everything. Why? Why, Your words caught in your throat, each one harder to say than the last. “How could you do that to me?”
Lo’ak’s eyes fell shut, and he felt a heavy weight settle in his chest. He hated seeing you like this—angry, hurt, broken—and he hated himself even more for being the one who had caused it.
“I was scared of losing you after Iknimaya,” he admitted, his words stumbling over themselves. He clenched his fists at his sides, as though holding himself together and resisting himself from holding you.
“What?” You stared at him, your anger faltering only for a moment, but the pain was still there, sharp and raw.
“I was scared,” he whispered, his voice barely audible, as though the truth was too heavy for him to bear. It took everything in him to admit it, but here he was, admitting it. To you. That you’d… want someone else. And I’d just be nothing more than a friend to you.”
The vulnerability in his voice was evident like he was confessing something that had been eating away at him for far too long. He winced, hating himself for the weakness, but the truth had to come out. “I couldn’t bear that. Not with you right there, within reach, always in front of me. So, I left.”
Lo’ak’s breath hitched, his chest tightening like a vice. He couldn’t look at you. Not now. Not with all the mess he’d made of everything.
“You didn’t care when we talked about other girls,” he muttered, each word feeling heavier than the last. He swallowed hard, but it didn’t stop the choking feeling in his throat. “So I… thought you didn’t—I didn’t think it mattered.”
He closed his eyes as if to stop himself from falling apart completely. But it didn’t work. It was all crashing down. “With Sänika,” His voice cracked, the words barely there. “We’re not together. We never really were. Because I can’t love anyone else.”
He almost didn’t want to speak anymore, terrified of what else might spill out. But there was nothing left to hide. No more masks. No more walls. Just a broken, desperate mess in front of you.
The silence that followed was deafening. You sat there, not moving, but the anger in your eyes was unmistakable. Lo’ak could feel it like a physical blow, but he stayed still, waiting for you to say something—anything—or even nothing at all, to leave.
But then, without warning, you cupped his face in your hands, Lo’ak’s breath hitched as he looked into your eyes, trying to find something—anything—that would help ground him of what had just spilt from his lips.
But, you didn’t give it. Not at first. Instead, you slapped him, Yet, in that same split second, you weren’t thinking anymore.
You leaned forward, crashing your lips against his, causing Lo’ak to stumble back slightly on his elbows. His arms moved around you, pulling you closer, as though afraid you might slip away again. He ignored the way his cheek burned where your hand laid.
It wasn’t calculated or planned. It was sudden, and passionate, all the feelings you had locked away for so long spilling out in that single, electric moment. His lips felt so soft and truly desperate, for all the right reasons this time. It was as if he, too, was tired of fighting.
His breath was shaky, and so was yours, each inhale a mix of relief and longing. His chest rose and fell beneath your hands, and you could feel the beat of his heart echoing in his chest, frantic and alive. Your hands moved instinctively, sliding up to his neck as if it were the only thing you could cling to at that moment as he rawfully kissed you. Like he needed this more than words could explain. You could feel like he was pouring everything he had left into you, trying to undo all the mistakes and all the lost time, with every move he made.
The kiss was more than an apology—it was a confession, an unspoken admission that both of you had been holding on to something. Something that neither of you could let go of.
As you both pulled away, Lo’ak’s hand gently cupped your face, his thumb brushing over your skin in a way that made everything else feel distant and unimportant. Slowly, he leaned forward, his forehead pressing gently against yours, the warmth of his skin grounding you in the moment. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted that.”
The world around you faded, and for a heartbeat, it was just the two of you.
“Lo’ak,” you whispered, your voice barely a breath. “Promise me you won’t ever doubt me and you ever again?.”
Lo’ak’s closed eyes flickered open to meet your piercing ones, humming a low, “I promise.”
And just like that, for the first time in ages, the wound within you— the one that had been so raw and painful—didn’t hurt as much anymore. It had softened, faded into the background, replaced by something new, something whole. Something that had been waiting for this moment to heal.
It felt like you could finally breathe.

Refuge
Tumblr media
part 1 | next
aonung x !Sully! reader.
Word count: 4.7k
Language: Tsahík- spiritual leader of the clan, Skxáwng - idiot
description: Your family seeks refuge with the Metkayina clan. You are met with a boy that takes your breath away but you did not know the sadist that lived under those eyes. He was cruel and mean too your sibling and you so why did your heart still beat for him? Why is he more gentle when it comes too you?
Tumblr media
Exhaustion, the only word to describe how you felt after the days of traveling to the reefs clans home. You payed no mind to the na’vi’s gathering around as you landed your ikran. Hopping off all you felt was a overwhelming uncomfortable feeling as the sand seemed to burn your feet and the suns fire danced across your body. There were no trees to hide yourself no soft grass to calm the ache of your feet as the grains of sand seemed to be on fire. The heat was unbearable and it only seemed to get more suffocating as the crowd around you thickened.
Your father approached with his hands up showing you meant no hard as he approached the people. You lazily followed behind him feeling discouraged and weak from your travels. Kiri seeming to notice your state took your hand in hers giving it a comfortable squeeze. She led you to stand behind your parents, being a good big sister and guiding you. Lo’ak and Neteyam were right next to them allowing the strange Na’vi to examine them. You could not understand how your older brothers were always so bold never lacking confidence. It was funny because Lo’ak was born just a few minutes ahead of you but the two of you could not be anymore different.
Suddenly the crowd parted as a clearly entitled na’vi made his was to the front. His eyes seemed to burn into your family as he scanned you all. You did not miss how he ignored your brothers greeting simply staring through them as if they were not even there. Normally you would feel offended but you could not seem to process the boys disrespect as you eyes scanned his body. He was not like the Omaticaya warriors you were use too seeing, he had a strong large build with a tatoo from his neck to bicep. A feeling of desire swirled in your belly as you took him , Eywa he was beautiful.
Seeming to notice your state his menacing ocean eyes met yours. He scanned your body as if he was taking in every detail. You had not realized you were holding your breath until his gaze tore away from you as he turned to talk to a shorter na’vi. A snickers left his lips as he turned back to you and your sister motioning to your tails. Suddenly your stomach dropped as embarrassment took over, hiding next to kiri you attempted to shield yourself from their gazes. Their laughing did not last long though as a beautiful na’vi hit them both as she whispered a scolding you could not hear.
Looking to your brother you saw him take her in with a awestruck gaze. You could not help but giggle at Lo’ak obviousness as you watch him, god your twin was such an skxáwng. The Amused feeling soon vanished as the chief made a grand display announcing his arrival. Nerves took over as your father conversed with the chief and your mother and the Tsahík butted heads. Suddenly the intimidating woman was making strides towards you and kiri and every bone in your body told you too flee as you tensed.
“Look at these tails they will be useless in the water!” Grabbing your tail harshly she examined it with her hands almost as if making a point. Letting out a faint cry of pain you were quick to take your tail back an annoyed expression painted on your face. The woman paid no mind as she continue to rudely take your sisters and Lo’aks hand and lift them in the air.
“They have demon blood!” Voice accusatory she embarrassed your sibling. You felt your blood boil as you watched her, how dare she! A hiss escaped your lips as you stared at the woman fury in your eyes but your father was quick to take the attention away from your act of disrespect. He displayed his hand countering her point and leaving her silent. The woman made her way back to her husbands side and as if they were communicating with their eyes they looked to each-other. You wished they did not grant you uturu after that dehumanizing display but your father seemed please with the outcome. All you felt was sadness weigh down your heart, wishing you were home.
“My daughter Tsireya and my son Ao’nung will teach your kids the way of are people.” At the news the young girl seemed to light up her smile lightning your mood slightly. Her excitement was contagious you could not deny that. The boy with the ocean eyes did not seem as please as words of defilement left his lips but he was quickly shut down. You could not deny that you were slightly exited to have such an attractive teacher, especially if you had to go through an iknimaya again. It felt foolish going through a rite of passage at 18 but you must learn the way of these people.
Tsireya was full of joy as she helped you take your stuff to your pod. You felt a slight comfort watching her prance along. Though your amusement did not last long as your arms seemed to scream at the weight of your load, arms slightly shaking. You moved slower than the others with similar loads to you but you were the only one who seems to struggle. Strength had never been your fortes, you became a warrior because of your speed definitely not raw strength, unlike your brothers.
“Your flimsy arms can’t even hold such a small load.” You felt a blush cascade over your face as his ocean eyes pierced yours. The boy you knew as Ao’nung had a smirk plastered across his face as he looked back at you clearly amused by your struggling.
“I-I am fine” The lie left your lips in a tone filled with struggle. You felt embarrassed that his first impression of you was a weak na’vi who could not even haul her load. The man only shot you an unimpressed look as he walked towards you. Ao’nung only shot you a glare that made your stomach flip nervously as he lightened your load, taking a few things from your grasp. A sigh of relief left your lips as you slightly jogged to catch up the na’vi already a few strides ahead of you.
“Thank you!” A smile threatened to breach your lips as you looked at the boy.
“Don’t think much of it forest girl, I do not like you freaks in my village.” As his words hit your ears you felt your ears droop. The temporary happiness quickly vanished as you were at a lost for words gaze casted away. What a great start to your life in the clan….
Tumblr media
It had been 2 days since your arrival and today was to be the first training in the Metkayina way. You were suppose to meet Roxto Tsireya and Ao’nung near the ilu saddles. You were filled with excitement as you walked next to Lo’ak to the locations as Kiri and Neteyam led, Tuk had her own personal tutor due to being 12 years she would not need to learn some of the things her older siblings were. You had no fears for your little sister as you anticipated your own lessons, hoping to feel a little less useless in these foreign lands.
“God, your excitement is gonna make me puke.” Slightly pushing you Lo’ak rolled his eyes playfully.
“Don’t act as if you are not filled with joy to see the chiefs daughter!” Teasing your twin you pinched his cheek as he hissed.
“As if I have not seen you eyeing the future chief.”
“How-”
“I am your twin y/n we are different but I know you as if you are myself.”
A blushed painted your cheeks as you avoided your brothers knowing gaze. You knew twin telepathy was a myth but moments like these you felt as if the boy could read your mind.
“Whatever.” Quickening your pase you caught up with Neteyam and Kiri hoping to join their conversation to avoid Lo’aks teasing. Your twin only laughed at your actions jogging to catch up too the three of you. Kiri and Neteyam shot the both of you a questioning look but payed no mind as they approached a waiting Tsireya.
“Oh, good morning! I have been waiting, the boys are already in the water.” After a short sweet greeting the girl ushered the 4 of you into the water. She dived in so gracefully it left you slightly taken aback. How could someone be so effortlessly perfect?
Lo’ak who wore a similar expression wasted no time to jump in with Neteyam. The two boys made whoops as they splashed in the water, it was an ungraceful sight compared to Tsireyas display. Slightly hesitant you looked to kiri for reassurance and your older sister gave you just that. Taking your hand in hers you both walked to the edge launching yourself into the water.
As the water calmed around you your eyes prided opened taking in your surrounding. If you were not underwater the sight itself would have taken your breath away, it was beautiful. Kiri, who also seemed entranced by the beauty shared your look of awe. You did not bother to stop your sister as she wandered away knowing the girls entrancement with wild life, you simply followed your brothers in front of you. You took the chance they went up for air to call too then allowing them to stop and wait for you.
“Hurry y/n these guys are fast as hell!” Lo’aks voice called out as he grabbed your arm pulling you towards them. Neteyam had his face in the water watching the na’vi below you.
“They are doing weird signs but I think they want us to follow.” Neteyam informed you as he took a deep breath and dove back in. You felt a wave of dread as he did so feeling your lungs already burn. Resentfully you took a deep breath and followed the boys, but it was no hope as the Metkayina were far too fast and could hold their breath for much longer. Before you knew it the three of you were back at the surface gasping for breath.
“I-I can not” You spat out between breath as you looked at you brother. They shot you a sympathetic look before the other breached the water next to you.
“You are not good divers, maybe good at swinging through trees-” Interrupting her brothers rude comment Tsireya smacked him on his head. You could not help but let a weak giggle out in between your struggle to catch your breath.
“We do not understand this finger talk.” Said Neteyam.
“We will teach you.” Tsireya said in a calm voice as she looked at each one of you. You caught Ao’nung rolling his eyes in the back, it was no doubt that he was not happy to be lumped in.
“Where is kiri?” Suddenly the boy Roxto asked as he looked around the group.
“She is near where we dove in.”
“We’ll then let’s head there, you guys need breathing practice” With a giggle Tsireya dove back into the water leading the way. A full body sigh left you lips, knowing you would have to go under again.
“Don’t drown on the way back forest girl.” You felt hot breath on your neck as the familiar voice of Ao’nung spoke so close to you. Goosebumps seemed to rise on your skin where his breath touched. You had no words to say as you turned to look at the ocean blue eyes that were soon torn away from your gaze as he dove under.
“Skxáwng!”
𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅
After what seemed like hours of swimming you made it back too shore. Your stamina was far from small yet you felt a slight drowsiness overtake you as you walked onto the beach. It was almost as if your lungs were tired, a feeling you had not felt before. You were most grateful that your new activity did not include holding your breath but learning to breath. You would be lying if you said you did not find Tsireyas explanation confusing, weren’t you breathing right now?
It seemed as though Lo’ak shared your confusion because as the lesson progressed the two of you seemed to be the only ones not getting it. It did not help that Tsireya flirtatiously placed her hand on Lo’aks stomach sending the poor na’vi even more off course than before. A slight laugh left your lips at your twins reaction finding his flustered state amusing.
“Do not laugh when you are not doing any better” Cutting your amusement short that annoyingly smooth voice entered your ears. His tone was laced with annoyance as he poked at you.
“Yet I do not see you being of any help.” a sarcastic smile painted your face as you turned too meet his eyes.
“Do not blame me for your lack of skill.”Suddenly Ao’nung’s voice darken in a way as his eyes scanned your form. This caught the attention of Neteyam, offended for a reason you could not understand.
“Watch how you talk too my sister.” Neteyam was quick too jump in his voice stern as Lo’ak was peering from behind him.
“Woah, woah, woah let’s calm down a bit.” Tsireya jumped between the two males with a nervous smile on her face.
“Let’s separate into small groups, keep things peaceful and help the ones struggling!” Clapping her hands together the girl looked around with a hopeful look. The group muttered an agreement as Tsireya was quick to separate na’vi into groups of three. Of course you were stuck with Ao’nung while the others were spread between Rotxo and Tsireya.
“We shall separate for more focus, teach some signs too them as well!” Scoffing Ao’nung turned away from his sister and began to walk away. Tsireya motioned for you to follow the grouchy man and you did just that. Dragging your feet behind the taller na’vi you felt your mood sour at his obvious attitude.
No words left his lips as you were left staring at his back. In your opinion he was blessed with a very nice back. You could see bits off his tattoo from his neck at the top of his shoulder and it was obvious that he was a warrior. His frame was strong and hard most likely the result of his training and endless hours of swimming. It was almost as if you were in a trance as you admired him from behind caught up in the way his muscles slightly moved as his defined arms swayed at his sides.
Abruptly stopping your brain did not have any time to process until you slammed into the na’vi, a slight gasp left your lips at the impact. In attempt to back up you stumbled on your own feet landing swiftly on the ground. A slight groan left your lips as you made contact with the sand. You had no time to catch your breath before ao’nung was turned around, wearing an amused expression as he looked at you.
“Try too pay some attention forest girl.” It was now Ao’nungs turn to wear a sarcastic smile as his eyes looked over your fallen form. Embarrassed, you quickly rose dusting the sand off your backside. You avoided his judging eyes as you placed yourself on the rock you assumed was going too be the place he would teach you.
“Hmm no words now?” Cocking his head too the side he worn his signature smirk, placing himself in front of you. You felt your heart best against your ribs as his eyes bore into you.
“I am sorry.” Avoiding his gaze you whispered a response. A purple hue painted across your face. A light chuckle met your ears as his eyes stayed glued too your face.
“Let’s start with signing than, if you even can with… those fingers.”
Casting your gaze too your four finger hands you subconsciously laced them together. Tucking your pinky finger in you felt slight shame. Your gaze did not move from your lap.
Slightly annoyed by your unmoving eyes Ao’nung reached for your face. His finger rested under your chin bringing your eyes too his. He wore a satisfied expression as his eyes bore into yours.
“Eyes on me forest girl.”
Tumblr media
Your efforts too push down the rising feelings for the ocean boy seemed fruitless. Every attempt to gaslight yourself seemed futile because as soon as his eyes met yours the butterflies ragged in your stomach. It did not seem to matter how much insults he threw at you, if anything it got you even more hooked. He would say mean words but his actions did not match his tone as he would gently guide you into the correct position or take you away from the group too help you out.
Although his sweet behaviors did not extend too your siblings. Ao’nung was often cut throat and mean too them. It made you conflicted and sad. You did not wish too feel these things for someone who was cruel too your twin, too your older siblings. Thank Eywa Tsireya was there to intervene most of the time. She was even the one too teach you how to stay on an ilu. She had insisted on teaching you and Kiri hoping that her brother would warm up too the sully boys after teaching them too ride.
Her hopes did not get her very far as Ao’nung was a stubborn man, his high rank did not help his attitude. He taught your brother too ride masterfully but he was not gentle in his teachings. He argued that it was obviously effective as you could only ride bear back, helpless in a saddled ilu. It made you embarrassed that he brought up your lack of skill in front of the others.
You were quick to shy away from their gazes picking at your hands. Kiri had been a natural at almost everything they had throw at her while you were the opposite. Even Lo’ak caught onto things faster than you! It was clear that your skills did not lie in the water. On the other hand Ao’nungs mood over the weeks only seemed to get worse as he was always stuck with your brothers.
After what Ao’nung would describe as a horrid day he was preparing too hunt with his friend. Tsireya had released you and kiri early as the lesson on healing was rather short due too your guys prior knowledge. You had gone too pick the two of you some fruit, and on the way back you were met with a dreadful sight. Ao’nung was obviously harassing your sister as his friend surrounded her, snickering at Ao’nungs action and words. It made your blood boil as he grabbed for her hands, Kiri obviously uncomfortable and trying too get away.
You had never been the confrontational type but your normal timid personality seemed thrown out the window as you rushed towards you sister. The basket of fruit was long forgotten as your legs carried you too her at record speed. Throwing the fruit in your hand at the taller na’vi a hiss breached your lips as you shoved him with your momentum. The force made Ao’nung and you stumble back slightly.
“Do not touch my sister!”
Ao’nung ears perked up as a smirk plastered on his face at your tone. He was use too a relatively quite y/n. Sometimes you would insult him back but other than that you were quite and flustered during your interactions with him. He had never seemed too be able to hit a nerve like he did with your other siblings and he felt a foreign feeling as you looked at him with fury in your yellow eyes.
“Another four fingered freak enters the scene!”
A series of chuckles were heard as his freakish looking friends giggle around you. Kiri only glared at the boy as she stood beside you. Pushing down the slight fear you felt you hissed at the taller na’vi slowly getting into a defensive position.
“Y/n do not do anything stupid.” Kiri whispered her worried tone filling your ears.
“The only freaks I see here are you and your mutated friends!”
A flash of an emotion you could not decipher ran through Ao’nungs eyes as he was quick to grab your hand holding it up so high you had to rise too your tipi toes. A slight groan left your lips as your body stretched out. Threatened kiri was quick too bite Ao’nung. Using his moment of surprise you planted your feet on the ground flipping the much bigger na’vi over your body.
A laugh left the girl lips as you positioned yourself on the na’vi trying your best to keep his arms down. His little friends were now quite, shocked that two forest girls could bring such a big na’vi down.
“I love a woman who can take control.”
Ao’nungs eyes looked into yours. He seemed exited by your new aggression as he fought you for dominance. Feeling oddly uncomfortable by the scene Kiri was quick too usher Ao’nungs lackeys away flashing them her red teeth. Although she would usually stay and aid you in anyway possible she knew it was not her place as a woodspirte danced around the two of you. Of course that jackass has to be the one Eywa chose for you. Slipping away she allowed the scene too unfold as she went too search for her brother, intending too inform them of the recent events.
You did not even notice Kiri slipping away as Ao’nungs hands broke free. He now had you in control grabbing your wrist and placing them together in one of his hands. There was no doubt that he was much bigger than most Omaticaya men as both your wrist could be held in one hand of his. His grip was firm but not painful as he waited for your struggle too stop, than soon let go. Suddenly you felt flushed at your position, legs straddling his waist as his now free hands made its way too your hips.
Ao’nung lifted his torso up easily as if there was not a whole na’vi on top of him. Sliding down into his lap you felt your breath catch in your throat. A purr of satisfaction ran through Ao’nungs chest as he dropped his hands too your legs seeming too admire you.
“You freaks are quite light.” As the words were processed in your brain it was almost as if you were knocked out of a trance. Your body flinched away from his touch. Seeming to get the message Ao’nung was quick to remove his hands from you. You felt a storm of mixed feelings as you looked at the man not knowing how too react. You felt anger at his action yet your heart felt light as the ghost of his touch still lingered.
“Yet you seem quite comfortable at this freaks proximity.” The words came out in a sneer as you glared at Ao’nung. You had decided you would be angry at him, he was wrong to gang up on Kiri and what type of sister what kind of sister would you be too just forgive him because he was gentle with you.
“It was nice to finally get a rise out of you.” His signature smirk plastered across his face made you hiss in dissatisfaction. Shoving his chest you glared at the man about to rise too your feet before firm hands held you down.
“I meant no serious harm.”
“Your a dick! Let me go!” Raising your voice Ao’nungs eyes seemed too soften but before he could make any moves your arm was grabbed as his upper body was pushed into the ground. A hiss left the Metkayina throat as he was quick too rise too his feet.
“Don’t you ever touch my sister again fish lips!” Lo’aks aggressive voice rang through your ears as you looked at your twin. His grip on your arm was firm as his tail whipped in aggression. Ao’nung seemed to mirror his body language not willing too back down.
“Lo’ak it’s ok I had it under control!” Placing a hand on your brothers chest you attempted to calm him down. His cat like eyes pierced your as his gaze softened.
“Yeah your sister loves throwing herself at me.”
Shocked you looked at Ao’nung who’s eyes were not on you. He was obviously trying to get Lo’ak too snap and just that happened. Tearing himself away from you he stomped over too the boy.
“Bitch!”
THWACK
𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅𓂅
The thoughts of the day crashed over you in waves as you sat on a rock. The waves were not far from your figure as you were lost in thought. An immense guilt filled you at the fact that Lo’ak had been punished for something you considered your fault. You hated seeing your brother scolded it filled you with an unbearable sadness, but that was not the only thing that troubled your mind. Ao’nungs words did not seem to leave you as you rethought all of your interaction. Did he see you as a desperate? Were you just another one of his sick twisted games? Did the light touches, extra attention, and looks mean nothing?
You felt like a idiot. Such a stupid, stupid girl. Brining your knees too your chest you couldn’t help the hot tears from breaching your eyes. You were such a fool, for even thinking there was something there. You felt so stupid for allowing yourself too fall for the boy. For the way the water dripped from his curls, his stupid laughs, his dumb smug smirk that seemed to always be plastered in his face. You hated the way he touched you as if you were a delicate flower, how he would tease you and make your stomach swirl, and how your heart would jump every time your eyes met.
Feeling cold water against your feet you tore your head away from your knees. Looking up ocean eyes stared down at you with an unreadable look. Shock filled your features as you were quick to wipe away your tears trying too hide the evidence of your sorrows.
“Y/n” Your name rolled off his tongue smoothly. Ao’nung eyes softened as he scanned your form. Placing himself next too you eyes never leaving your body.
“Why are you here Ao’nung.” Your voice came out raspy as you stared at the ocean, gaze unwavering. It was obvious that you had been crying.
“I just wanted to check on you, didn’t see you at the dinner.”
You almost scoffed as the words left his mouth. Worrying after harassing you and your family all day? Could someone be anymore bipolar. “I have no words for you. I would not wish for anyone too think i’m throwing myself at you.” Although you intended for the words to come out in a harsh tone they left your lips laced in a pain Ao’nung could not decipher.
“I said I meant no harm-” Aggressively rising too your feet you cut the boy off. Your eyes filled with pain and anger as you stared at the Metkayina. “It does not matter what you intended it matters what it did too my family, to me!” Vision blurring from your tears you did not even know the Metkayina stood in front of you until his rough hands were placed on your cheeks. You felt his course thumb rub under your eyes wiping the tears away. You hated the way your heart leaped at the action, craving more of his touch.
Forcing his hands away from your face you shoved them away. “I will not be one of your games Ao’nung! Leave my family alone.” The last part came out barley above a whisper as you turned away from the man. Ignoring the ache of your heart and yearning of your body you stomped away from him tears running down your face in waves.
Watching you retreating from with his ears back and heart sunk Ao’nung thought over his actions. A slight guilt built up at the sight of your tears, tears he had caused. As your form disappeared from his sight Ao’nung knew he fucked up bad. He had lost his favorite forest girl.

Do you still hate me?
MDNI!!🔞
w/c: 2.7k
Pairing: Aged!Up!Neteyam x Fem!Omatikaya!Reader
Warnings: explicit smut, enemies to lovers, reference of rape, fist fighting, mean Neteyam, dominant Neteyam, cussing, some degrading/dirty talk, porn w plot, I think that’s it??
Summary: enemies to loverssss w Neteyam! Lo’ak is your best friend and it’s caused a rift between you and Neteyam. Hatefulness turns into desire.
A/n: Hey guys! Just wanna let everyone know that I’m only gonna be writing porn w plot lol. So all my character are aged up. I like to have a backstory that builds up the tension, I think it’s so much better but I’m sorry if you think it’s too long or it’s not your thing! Also PLEASE send me ALL your requests and I will do them but please note that I’m only gonna be doing pairings with Jake, Neteyam, and Lo’ak. Enjoy!! 😘
“Hey, wait up!” you call out to Lo’ak. You two were exploring the forest of Pandora, a pastime you’ve both always enjoyed since you were little kids.
“Keep up loser! Not waiting on your skxawng ass!” he yells, not looking back and continuing to run and leap along the terrain.
You and Lo’ak were best friends, platonic soulmates really. Y’all were known for your mischievous behavior and carefreeness, though it’s toned down a lot now at your ages, you being 20 and him being 21. He liked to tease you and call you a baby although he was only older by a few months. Typical Lo’ak behavior.
Growing up you could always count on him for a good time, he was always making you laugh and cutting up with you after your daily schooling and duties were done. The grown ups and your parents would tease you both that you would grow up to be mates. You both thought ‘ewwww’ to that and still do. You loved him very much but not in that way. You were never jealous over each other, you both could talk about your crushes and so forth. There was a sense of respect in your friendship, and being okay that you were just friends and y’all truly didn’t want to ruin that friendship with anything romantic.
Now huffing and puffing and hunching over to catch your breath, you finally caught up to him since y’all were at the edge of the cliff now, right beside a waterfall. It was beautiful.
You stepped to the edge and he playfully tapped you as if pretending to push you off. You get into a play stance and aim to grab his tail. “Skxawng!” you laugh.
“Coming from you?!” he counters. “Hey, mom said she was making teylu tonight, your favorite. Come eat?”
You consider it for a second. Your parents often complained you were at the Sully’s too much, especially when Lo’ak invited you for dinner. And there was also gonna be Neteyam over there… the grumpiest asshole who often tested your patience. But you thought of the mouth-watering teylu and forgot about everything else.
“I guess so. Not because you asked but because I want teylu.” you teased. He just rolled his eyes with a smile and you two headed back to the Sully’s hut.
Back at the hut, you and Lo’ak entered in. “Y/n! I’m glad to see you, will you help me finish dinner?” Neytiri asked. She’s always liked you. “Of course!” you smiled.
After you two finished making dinner, she called everyone to come gather to eat in a circle. You took your usual place next to Lo’ak. Then Neteyam walks into the room. He makes eye contact with you and instantly tenses up. He looks away and resumes his broodiness. He was always like this around you. You would catch him laughing and being carefree around others, but it seemed like he absolutely hated you. Like your presence just sickened him. You couldn’t understand why though, all you ever were was nice to him. So now you do hold a grudge against him as all your efforts to be nice have done nothing.
Everyone ate dinner and made small talk about their days. You avoided eye contact with Neteyam of course. “Thank you for dinner mom, it’s delicious.” Neteyam says. “Thank you son but y/n helped me with it, she deserves some appreciation too!” Neytiri chirps.
Neteyam slowed his chewing and looked over at you. “Thank you, y/n” he mumbles. The tension is palpable and the silence is awkward. Everyone knows Neteyam doesn’t take well to you, though they don’t understand why.
After dinner, everyone starts cleaning and doing their own thing as they get ready for bed and settle down. You were looking for Lo’ak and about to cut the corner as you heard him and Neteyam speaking. You freeze and listen closely.
“Why do you always bring her for dinner? You know it’s family time. And plus don’t you ever get tired of being with her all the time?” Neteyam spits.
“Bro, why do you hate her so much? She’s done nothing to you and she’s my friend. Get over yourself,” Lo’ak storms away and before you can move your hiding spot, he runs right into you. You were definitely caught listening and he sees your hurt face. He ushers you away where Neteyam can’t hear or see you and starts trying to calm you. It doesn’t work much and you decide to just head home since you feel so unwanted there. Lo’ak offers to walk you back but you decline and say you want to blow off some steam on your walk by yourself.
As you were walking, all these thoughts were going through your head. You were distracted and not paying attention to your surroundings. Then you hear chuckling and low voices. You turn around and see two guys who you recognize but don’t know their names.
“Hey pretty girl, what’re you doing out here so late and all alone?”
The other one approaches you and you try to back up but are backed into a tree. He slides his finger underneath the strap of your top and smiles menacingly at you. “It seems like she wants some attention, huh? Like she’s asking for it..” they chuckle.
Your eyes are wide with fear and adrenaline is coursing through your veins as the realization sets in that you are in serious danger. You regret not letting Lo’ak walk you home.
Then suddenly the one closest to you is stripped away and falls to the ground. It takes you a minute to recognize who it is now punching him ruthlessly and you see that it’s… Neteyam?
The other one tries to get Neteyam off his friend but then he gets sucker punched into the oblivion. You’re just gawking but then finally snap into reality. “Neteyam, stop!!”
He hears your plead and stops. He raised up slowly and is peering down at the guys with their faces bleeding now. “Stay the fuck away from her or next time I’ll kill you both.”
They scatter off and don’t say a word. You’re breathing heavy because a lot just happened. You glance at Neteyam and he holds your gaze as his chest heaves up and down. He turns and starts walking away. Where is he going after what just happened??
“Neteyam, wait!” You run up and grab his arm to turn him to you. His eyes bore into your soul. There’s just a moment of silence as you try to think of the words to say.
“T-thank you for saving me… from those guys” You look down at the ground because you can’t hold his intense eye contact.
He barely nods his head in response and backs away. “You shouldn’t be out here alone this late. Stupid girl. And maybe you should put some more clothes on, you leave nothing to the imagination” He scolds.
Stupid? This was his fault! And commenting on your lack of clothes?? Hell no. “Then next time don’t save me, mighty warrior.” You mocked. “I don’t need you and you don’t impress me like you do everyone else. And you’re not the boss of me”
He just chuckled. “No but if you were mine you would know who was boss.” He towered over you.
Huh? This is outrageous and the most you and Neteyam have ever talked and this is how it goes??
“You’re CRAZY” you shout and push him hard on his chest. “I hate you.” You push him again.
His ears fold back. He can’t hold back anymore.
He grabs both your forearms and pulls you all the way to him and bends down to your ear. “You know what, sevin? I hate you too.” He pulls back and his eyes lock on yours. “I hate how bad I’ve wanted you for so long and you would never even look my way. Too occupied with my brother. I bet you’ve already let him fuck you. I could almost kill him for the fact you’ve always chosen him and not me.” He’s near trembling from a mixture of anger, hurt, and desire.
The truth was he hated seeing you with Lo’ak so much because it was a constant reminder that you weren’t with him. It frustrated him that Lo’ak was the one who got to spend time with you and make you laugh. It should be him, not his baby brother.
His confession has you dizzy, confused and breathless. You couldn’t believe what he just said and questioned if you were in a dream for a second. But no, this was real. Your body was betraying you by being hot all over from his scent in your nose and his breath falling on your skin.
His eyes are searching yours for answer, for anything. You really are just speechless though. He sighs and let’s go of you, ashamed. He goes to walk away and you grab him again to swing him around toward you.
“I’m sorry…” you reach up to hold his cheek with a light touch. “I didn’t know…” your voice cracks a little. “You should’ve told me, you idiot.” You pause for a second, “Lo’ak has not had me. Nobody has.” You confess.
You feel like you’re having an out of body experience but it feels so right. Maybe you were too tired but you honestly felt that Neteyam was being genuine. This realization quickly turned into need.
You go up on your toes to surprise him with a kiss. It’s sweet and warm. You loved the taste of him. You wanted more.
“I’m so sorry, y/n. I have handled this wrong and I am an idiot.”
He swooped back down to press another kiss on you. You open your mouth a little to let his tongue swipe in. The feeling goes straight down to your core that’s gaining more and more slick.
He pulls back and takes a deep breath in. “I smell you, tiyawn. You smell like heaven.” You blush at the fact that your body can’t lie to him. You do want him, want him bad. Even after all his bullshit. But you decided to put your pride aside.
“I need you, Neteyam. Please” you beg. His eyes turn from gentle to dark. Not in the way you’re used to seeing, but dark in a way that was primal. Like a predator watching it’s prey.
“Are you sure?”
You nod yes. He wastes no time and swoops you up bridal style. You look at him with questioning eyes as to where you’re going. “What’s the matter, sevin? Thought I was gonna take you right here for everyone to hear and see?”
Once he finds a nice secluded spot with cushiony moss, he lays you down swiftly on it.
“You have no idea how long I’ve waited for this,” he lowers himself on you and plants sloppy kisses on your neck and collar bone. Your breath quickens.
“You’ve no idea how long you’ve visited me in my dreams” he kisses lower, hand snaking up under your top to reveal your breasts.
“Fuck” he breathes. He squeezes his eyes shut and his head drops down. “I could almost cum at the sight of you”
He latched onto one nipple, gently nibbling on it with his teeth. He takes the other in his finger and starts pulling, pinching, rolling.
“Oh!” You cry out and arch back.
“That’s right, syulang. Gonna make you feel so fucking good”
He starts kissing down your stomach and around your hips as he unties your loincloth and slides it down.
“Fuckkk. You’re soaked, y/n. All for me?”
You nod frantically. He grins and gathers some slick from your aching cunt. It glistens on his fingers as he admires it. He sucks them clean.
“So sweet. So fucking sweet”
He lowers himself down to let his face hover over your sex, pulling your soft, plush thighs on top of his shoulders. He looks up at you through his eyebrows and starts feasting.
Electricity courses through your veins and you feel high. “Neteyammm” you whine pathetically. He continues lapping you up and the sounds are straight up sinful. You didn’t want it to ever end.
“Don’t stop!!” You cry. He just moans and groans on you, sending vibrations through you, hitting the spot.
You feel the high coming, it feels overwhelming and all consuming. You have no control over your body now, he has you completely.
“Gonna cum!! Neteyam!!” You pant and squirm, trying to get out of his hold.
He inserts a finger into your hole, “Cum on my face, pretty girl”. His low voice and words send you over the edge. You see stars and your eyes roll back to your head.
“HOLY FUCK!” You scream. He lets you ride out your orgasm on his fingers and face. He’s now covered in all your juices and licks up as much as he can.
“Shit, y/n. Wanna taste you forever” he groans.
You’re panting trying to catch your breath. Eyes half lidded and looking delirious. He raises up and you shift your gaze down to his tented bulge. “Show me” you point with a weak finger.
He flashes a big grin. “Being bossy are we? Who’d I tell you was the boss around here?”
You roll your eyes and softly chuckle. “Please Neteyam. Don’t tease me.” You wiggle towards him and open wide. You look up at him with siren eyes. The playfulness in him goes away and is replaced with hunger once again. He unties his loincloth and tossed it to the side. You bite your lip in anticipation.
He lines up his cock with your entrance and pushes in. The stretch was so good, as he brushed past all the right places. You looked at him and you both held eye contact, staring into each others souls. As he pushed and pushed you both shared looks of pain and pleasure, mouths agape and eyes fixated on the other. He finally bottomed out as far he could go, you couldn’t believe how full you were. Full of Neteyam, your worst enemy. Or so you had thought.
“Ready tìyawn?”
“Yes!! Go!!” You beg. He pulls out and slams back in.
“Oh, fuck!!” You yell. He starts a pace that has you losing your mind. He lowly groans and occasionally grunts.
“I wonder what your best friend Lo’ak would think about you under me, huh?”
You can only manage to moan in response. You can’t think about anything but your pleasure and Neteyam’s dick stuffed inside you.
He grabs your face and gets nose to nose. “Tell me, will Lo’ak ever get to see you so needy under him like this?” He never stops with his pace, skin steadily slapping and breaths and whines collecting in the air.
“N-no. We’re just friends” you whisper.
“Promise??”
“Yes!!! Please Neteyam!”
“Please what?”
“Make me cum!!”
He growls at your needy plea and fucked out appearance. He speeds up and buries his face in your neck. He’s losing it and feels his own release approaching.
“Shittttt, y/n. You feel so damn good. Please don’t let this be the last time I ever get to be in this pussy” he breathes on you.
You’re so fucked out you can barely form a complete thought but you understand his request. “It’s yours Neteyam! All yours!!”
He moans in appreciation. You feel the coil about to burst and hold onto him tight as he rocks into you ruthlessly.
“Neteyam!!”
“Mmmmmmm” he’s muffled from being in the crook of your neck.
You both cum at the same time, spasming on each other. He releases his load inside you and you take it in greedily while you come down from your climax. He stills and goes limp on you.
“Do you still hate me?” He jokes.
You roll your eyes and swat him playfully. “The bigger question is how are we gonna tell Lo’ak?”
“We’ll worry about that later. For now, sleep.” He kisses your head and you both fall asleep on each other peacefully surrounded by the forest.

Summary: You work as maintenance at base 36, a testing facility used for unethical experiments on captured local Na’vi. One day when the base’s power supply melts down and explodes, you’re caught in the flaming crossfire. In a split second decision, you also decide to free the panicking Na’vi in his glass cell.
Aged up!Aonung to 21 and reader is 20
Chapter 1: think fast
Mission report: Base 36 quarantined due to overheated power supply explosion. Evacuated and searching for survivors.
“No no no no,” you cried, banging on the locked door. “I can’t die like this!”
Blaring alarms wailed loudly in the empty halls, the heavy smoke in the air muting the red flashing lights. You coughed into a closed fist, feeling the uncomfortable heat raging against your back.
The center of base 36 was locked down, after the power supply had exploded and started a massive, fast traveling fire that ate up everything in its path. They had immediately closed off the affected area, assuming everyone to be dead. And everyone was dead.
Except you.
“Fuck, fuck,” you swore, speed-entering every password you could think of on the keypad keeping the door sealed shut.
Incorrect password. Incorrect password. Incorrect password.
“For fuck’s sake!” You screamed, punching the titanium with all of your strength. It didn’t even budge, but now your knuckle was bloody and bruised. Well great.
Shoving your hands into your hair, you pulled frantically at the roots. “Okay think y/n, think.”
The fire hadn’t reached you yet, but it was close. You knew that it was coming from the hall on the right, but the center of base 36 was a circular design, so pretty soon the fire would be coming from both directions. If you went left, you had a chance of being stranded in the middle of the hallway, but if you didn’t—well, you would be stranded either way.
“Shit,” you dragged a frustrated hand down your face, before turning left and sprinting as fast as you could.
The walls blurred past you as you ran, your breath and heartbeat echoing heavily in your ears. The air was thick with smoke and heat, making your abused lungs ache.
You turned a corner and suddenly shrieked, skidding ungracefully to a stop only a few inches away from a jagged metal pole. The path that you needed to follow had caved in, blocked by a wall of heavy cement and metal debris. It was impossible to cross without somehow impaling or crushing yourself.
Brrrrrrk, the base shook, a deep rumbling noise that made you grab onto the wall for support as your eyes widened.
A cloud of dust suddenly showered over you, making you slowly look up in fear.
“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me,” you whimpered as you watched the ceiling start to crack above you.
Cursing profusely under your breath, you jumped into a random room to your left—grunting as your abused ribs hit the ground—and just barely missing the avalanche of dust and debris that buried that floor where you stood only a second ago. Coughing, you waved away the dust as it slowly settled around you.
To your horror, the entrance was now blocked with debris too, effectively trapping you inside. Well, you thought with a sinking resignation. No turning back now.
The room you had found yourself in was very large, about the size of an aircraft hangar. It was all dark, except for the flashing red warning lights that were also present around the rest of the base. High, overarching ceilings hung above you, supported by thick metal beams. The floors were a cold, porous grey concrete. You didn’t usually have clearance to be here, so the layout was foreign to you.
“Hello?” You called out hesitantly as you picked yourself off the ground, eyes scanning hopefully for any signs of life, but to no avail. Everything was quiet and abandoned.
The further you walked into the room, the more bizarre it got. Large glass encasements lined the walls, much too large to be cells. Not when the ceilings of these things were at least fifteen feet tall.
Or maybe, it was meant to hold something much larger than a human.
You gulped, warily continuing forward. You were a maintenance worker and carrier, so you didn’t really know what they got up to in the testing facilities. You just transported the samples that the lab technicians gave you and made sure that the equipment was clean and functional.
THUMP THUMP THUMP.
The sudden, loud banging noises made you gasp, taking a few startled steps back. Glancing in the direction of the sounds, you noticed that they seemed to be coming from one of the glass encasements a little further into the room—the only one still lit up.
You gulped, leaning your back against the wall and clutching at your chest. To investigate for exits, you would need to cross the room, and to cross the room, you would need to pass in front of that thing making those disturbing noises.
In the near distance, a deafening popping noise reverberated in the hall, vibrating against the walls and rattling your teeth. Shit, the fire was too close now, you needed to act fast. The thumping noises on the glass got more insistent, frantically picking up tempo and increasing in force.
“Ha…” you exhaled, gathering what little remained of your nerve. “Okay Y/n, this is happening.”
Without a second glance behind you, you ran as fast as you could, keeping your eyes trained in front of you.
Don’t look, you chided yourself. Don’t look. Don’t look you idiot.
THA-THUMP-THUMP-THUMP.
You looked, eyes shifting disobediently to your left and then…up. And higher. And they kept climbing until your neck was practically craned at a ninety degree angle, eyes wide and mouth gaping at an almost ten-foot-tall, blue humanoid figure.
“Oh, shit!” You shrieked, stumbling backwards and just nearly managing to catch yourself before you fell on your ass. “What the fuck is that?!”
The creature was male, as far as you could tell, with intricate black tattoo markings climbing up his biceps, neck and face. His hands—four fingered, you noticed in disturbance—were pressed against the glass walls of his enclosure, pointy canines protruding viciously from behind his lips as he hissed soundlessly at you.
Oh. Oh. You knew what he was. You’d heard too many horror stories from your coworkers not to recognize his monstrous features.
He was a local. A Na’vi. Apparently they were savage barbarians, mercilessly killing humans for pleasure and keeping their bones as decorations and trophies. They were no different from animals. Every single nerve in your body was screaming at you to get the hell away from it.
You gritted your teeth and sprinted past his cell, much to his visible anger and indignation. No way in hell were you going to let that thing out. You weren’t planning to die any earlier than you had to, thank you very much.
Thump.
That one was softer, sounding almost defeated. It made you pause, not able to stop yourself from glancing back over your shoulder curiously.
It—he had his head resting against the glass, fist slowly sliding down the surface. His other hand clutched reverently at what looked like a shark tooth pendant around his neck, lips moving quickly as if he was muttering desperate prayers under his breath.
Oh, no. No no no. Was that a shred of guilt you were feeling, Y/n? Banish the thought.
But…the more you looked at him, the less he seemed like a mindless barbarian who would enjoy ripping you limb from limb until you were just a bloody stump with a head, and the more he looked like—well, someone who was scared shitless of dying. Like you.
Another loud bang shook the base, gnawing at your conscience uncomfortably. The place where his eyebrows should have been furrowed, a painfully resigned expression contorting his face.
Shit. You were going to do something very, very stupid, weren’t you?
“You better not kill me, you stupid blue yeti,” you grumbled under your breath, running back towards his cell.
His head lifted when he saw you approaching, large blue eyes narrowed in confusion.
“Yeah, yeah,” you grimaced. “I’m back, don’t get too excited.”
Now you just had to figure out how to work technology you’d never seen in your life.
Frantically you scanned the complex control panel on the wall, your heart dropping as you stared helplessly at all of the different colorful buttons and switches. Of course it couldn’t be simple.
“Oh come on,” you moaned in despair, pulling at the roots of your hair. “Have you people never heard of labels before?!”
You felt his eyes boring into you as you nervously started pushing, turning and flipping random controls. So far, you’d managed to brighten the lights in his cell, play some music (—move your body like a hologram—), and activate a large gust of air that blasted him right in the face, messing up his hair. That earned you a stink eye.
“Oh, shut up, I’m trying!” You hissed anxiously at him, even though you were pretty sure that the glass was sound resistant so he couldn’t actually hear you, much less understand you.
All of a sudden, the metal frames of the entrance to the room started creaking loudly, grating on your eardrums like nails on a chalkboard. You looked on in horror as they began to cave in from the sheer intensity of the heat. The fire had finally caught up.
The Na’vi’s hands pressed insistently against the glass, staring down at you wide-eyed with a look that you knew meant hurry the fuck up, stupid human.
At this point you were just full on slapping and elbowing anything you could reach. “Come on!” You pleaded frantically as a wave of heat made a sheen of sweat break out over your skin. “This is really cutting it close, Y/n!”
To your overwhelming relief, the sweet sound of gears whirling and clasps unhinging blessed your ears as you watched the glass door to his cell unseal with a loud whoosh and swing open. And damn, were you unprepared for how incredibly tall he was.
It literally felt like you were standing next to a museum exhibit.
You didn’t really have time to think about it though, because the fire was now starting to eat its way inside the lengthy room.
“Oh, shit,” you swore, hearing him spit something of the same tone in a foreign language you didn’t understand.
Your eyes frantically scanned the back end of the room. Most of it was just cement wall, work stations and different types of weird machinery. Behind one of the stations though, there was a bulkhead door about two feet shorter than your giant blue companion, with a wheel to seal it shut.
“There!” You exclaimed, pointing at it as you made a beeline for the handle. Grabbing onto the wheel, you pulled it counterclockwise with all of your strength. But no matter how hard you pulled, it just wouldn’t budge.
“Arghhhh!” You screamed in frustration, digging your feet into the ground as your knuckles turned white from how tightly you gripped onto the handle.
Suddenly, a large hand gripped your shoulder, shoving you harshly away. “Rikx mìso!” He hissed at you, grabbing onto the wheel himself and pulling.
The rusty wheel creaked loudly as it began to turn from the sheer amount of brute force exerted on it.
“Any time now,” you tittered nervously as the heat on your back started to become painfully hot. You could now see the intense waves of heat in the air, distorting your vision like an unfocused camera lens.
The Na’vi huffed, turning it even harder, and soon enough the lock unclamped with a few clicks, leaving the watertight door to swing wide open. Both of you lunged inside, with him slamming and resealing the door behind you just as a station exploded violently nearby, the flames chasing at your heels.
“Oh my god!” You shrieked, stumbling back and falling into a cold wall. The bulkhead door had led into what looked like a decently sized storage room. Rebreathers hung on the walls, as well as protective gear that you knew the excursion division used. You didn’t really get to analyze much more than that though, because to your absolute horror, the door creaked ominously in front of you, warping from the intense heat that it was not meant to withstand.
“Shit!” Your eyes widened as you staggered away, almost tripping over your feet in your haste. You needed to get out of here now.
You ran to the sealed exit door, pushing on it in frustration. “No,” you cried when it refused to open, tears welling up in your eyes. “No, not now! Please.”
Your heart sunk further when you noticed the keypad next to the door, identical to the one you were trying to unlock earlier. You were right back to where you started.
Taking a few steps back, you stared numbly at the floor. This was it, then? This was how you were going to die.
The Na’vi ran up beside you, pounding desperately on the exit door, but you knew it wouldn’t budge. It was locked, sealed shut and made of titanium alloy like all of the other doors you’d discovered lining the edges of the base ever since it had been quarantined. The only way to open it was with the code. A code that you didn’t have clearance for.
“It’s not going to work,” you told him, staring at the concrete blankly. “Even if you fired a bullet at that thing, it wouldn’t even dent.”
He didn’t seem to listen to you, still pounding furiously at the reinforced metal. When that didn’t work, he let out a deep, guttural yell, turning to you with anger in his eyes.
Storming up to you, he grabbed the collar of your shirt, lifting you up to his eye level and sneering in your face. Your breath stuttered in fear as you stared into his deep, sea blue irises. They were much more vivid up close, mixed with swirling flecks of green and gold.
They pierced into your soul, burning with rage and fear but most of all, they burned with an unwavering defiance. In that moment, you understood perfectly what he was trying to tell you.
“Okay,” you found yourself nodding slowly. “We can try.”
He set you down, and you both got to work, scouring the room for anything that would possibly help you escape. The only light source in the room was the setting sun through two tiny polycarbonate glass windows to your left and right, and a measly flickering pot light above you.
You patted desperately at the walls, wrenching ration packs off of shelves, and ripping open closet doors. So far you'd found food, hunting knives, folded clothes, some rifles, camo backpacks, rebreather masks, a water filtering kit and a pair of boots. Nothing that would help you bust down the door though.
It looked like your companion wasn't having much luck either, although he seemed much more wary of the items he found, almost like he was confused and nervous to even touch them.
Creaaaaaak.
The door groaned behind you, parts of the metal starting to dent inward and blister. Shit shit shit. There was no more time, it was going to blow.
You stumbled over to the Na'vi, tugging on his leg until he looked down at you. "There's no time," you said, eyes wide with urgency. "We need to hide."
He glanced back at the sealed exit, before looking back down at you. He huffed, following you to one of the more secluded corners. Hastily, you began building a wall out of everything both of you could find in the room. It probably wouldn't do much, but it was the best protection you could afford. He seemed to get the message too, gathering three times as much as you could hope to hold in your limited human arms, and dumping it onto your makeshift barricade.
You grabbed a rebreather mask off the wall just in case, when suddenly you froze.
PULL TO ENGAGE EMERGENCY LOCKDOWN.
The words were now exposed, written in bold, red letters above a red metal handle. Well you'd be damned.
"Get back!" You yelled, pulling the lever down hard. It groaned, snapping into place.
Three things happened at once. The bulkhead door, which was already warped beyond repair and in the process of peeling, exploded open, exposing both of you to the most swelteringly unbearable heat you'd ever experienced. You screamed as blisters raised all along the length of your forearm, which you had raised to shield your eyes. Distantly through the pain, you could hear him crying out too.
Then, with a bang, three sets of diagonal doors emerged, sealing the entrance shut, but not before a final explosion knocked you clean off your feet. You cracked your head against a wall, and everything went dark.

You felt your body shiver as a cool breeze hit you, you were conscious that you knew. You were able to hear and feel the footsteps around you, but the room you were in seemed to be dead silent. Earlier's events replayed in your mind as your brows furrowed slightly, not remembering the entirety of your day.
However, you did remember certain flashes between your arguing with Lo’ak before he caught you and you fell unconscious. You were grateful for that; you had pointed to yourself you’d thank him later when you were less tired. As of now you were exhausted, too exhausted to move or even open your eyes, and frankly you didn’t want too.
You felt the breeze become stronger now, your body now physically reacting to the cold as you winced and shivered harder than before. The groan that slipped past your lips hadn’t passed unnoticed, because you soon felt a large blanket cover your body, as the hand who placed it tucked the corners of it underneath your body so it wouldn’t move.
The hand was gentle and caring, but also warm, and your body couldn’t help but be drawn to it. As the hand made its way by your neck you lowered your head, now keeping the hand by your face as it was pressed against your cheek as you muttered.
You heard a very familiar chuckle before they gently removed their hand and pet your cheek, sitting beside you. With the loss of the warmth from the hand your winced again, turning over and huddling your body in a fetal type of position.
You soon began to drift off to sleep yet again as you heard small clattering and feel shuffling behind you. You also heard small chatter being shared in na’vi behind you, but yet again you were too tired to focus on what was being shared. You were soon awoken by the same hand as before being placed on your upper back, rubbing you softly.
“Sorry, but you gotta eat something” you heard Lo’ak spoke, slowly peeling the blanket from your body. Your eyes were open now, your vision a little hazy, but not enough for it to be a concern of any sort.
You were now turned around as you made eye contact with him, taking the blanket from his hands and pulling it back over your body as you laid on the opposite side now, taking in his figure.
He looked at you before brushing the back of his hand over your cheek as he smiled at you. He quickly drew his hand back and turned to his side, your gaze diverted there to see two bowls there. Whatever it was it smelled good, and you were definitely hungry enough to eat it ten times over if you wanted.
Without a word you quickly sat up, watching his movements as he moved the bowls in front of you. One of them was a bowl of water, which you quickly picked up and gulped down, not even realizing how thirsty you were to chug down something so quickly.
You left yourself and Lo’ak in total shock, excusing yourself as you placed a hand over your mouth. He only laughed at you, saying it was alright, and he would refill it and bring you an extra incase.
As you sat by yourself and ate you began to think to yourself. This was normal, just two friends being friends. Eating, laughing, talking, it was all normal, it’s stuff the two of you had done thousands of times.
It felt different and you knew that the way he’s always looked at you felt different. Comparing how he was when he touched you or how he looked at you to your other friends there was a major difference. Maybe all of this tension and anger that had blown up from the two of you to begin with was because of that.
Attraction comes in many forms, that you knew, but you didn’t expect things to get so complicated and rough, especially to the point where you fainted from improper sleep and health. It wasn’t just you; it was Lo’ak too, throwing himself at danger just to keep himself busy or keep his mind off of you. What the two of you were doing to avoid your affection towards one another was insane.
It seemed as if Eywa herself had given the two of you so many chances, but the both of you continued to just blow them. Now was the perfect time to make things right, and honestly you didn’t plan on talking.
Lo’ak cared about you a lot, if not too much. His parents always lectured him and his siblings to not put anyone else before them and their own needs, but with you he was physically incapable of doing so.
He was quick to put you first and do anything you had asked when you two were younger, risking himself and getting in trouble but he believed it was worth it. You were always worth it to him, no matter what.
So, when he felt the atmosphere between the two of you begin to change and you started to act like you hated him, he did it ten times better. Not as if he was acting like he hated you, he did, or at least some part of him did. He didn’t understand how things could go wrong between you two when you both were happy.
His hatred that was portrayed and spoken aloud was just pain and sorrow on the inside. He said things he didn’t necessarily mean, and did things he hadn’t meant either, but he couldn’t help it. You liked to argue so he argued with you, constantly back and forth for hours.
Even if it was the energy, he hadn’t wanted reciprocated he gave it to you and took what you gave him regardless. Your energy was always matched by him, no matter the circumstances. It didn’t matter to him because at the end of the day he was with you, you gave him parts of your day, until it was too much.
The last conversation the two of you had shared a month ago sent him off edge, if he didn’t have any self-control he would’ve just come straight back to his home and begin tossing things. Thankfully he didn’t, instead he just sat down in a corner and stared at the wall for hours. He hadn’t spoken to anyone who walked by or reacted when they had touched him.
He had asked himself and even prayed to Eywa for things to be different. His heart couldn’t handle it anymore, he wondered what this feeling was. It wasn’t the same as when his brother or parents had lectured him or punished him for his wrong doings. It was deeper than that, it was more painful, more direct, maybe it was heartbreak.
If it was heartbreak than he hated the feeling, ensuring he made the proper decision not wanting to see you again. Avoiding you at all costs and risking his life during hunts or training to the extreme to feel something else other than heartbreak, but heartbreak doesn’t go away as easily as he thought.
So when you stepped foot into his home earlier this morning his body tensed. He could smell you, you always smelled different from all of the other women he had been around, lighter and more pleasant than others, but maybe that was just because he was drawn to you.
Kiri took note of his tense behavior and hadn’t said anything, already knowing why. She was happy that their relationship was solid as can be, he actually spoke to her and considered her one of his best friends, so when she saw the pain on her brothers face and flattened ears as he explained his situation with you, she knew that the two of you needed time together.
So, when she had heard his cries earlier with your body limp in his arms, she knew what it was. It was love, her little brother was in love with you, and she could tell by the desperation and tears in his eyes as he held you.
He soon returned, his large hands holding much larger bowls of water in them as he made his way in front of you. He quickly placed the bowls down in front of you, before sitting down himself. He raised a brow as he saw that the bowl of food, he had in front of you had been empty.
“Do you want some more? My mom made plenty for you before she left.” He said pointing back deeper into the hut where the kitchen was. You only shook your head and thanked him, saying you were already full and just wanted to clean your hands off.
You did so with the spare bowl of water he had brought, your entire focus placed what you were doing as your braids hung down low by your face, covering your vision. Before you were able to remove your hands and move them yourself Lo’ak had already moved them behind your ear, his hand lingering on the side of your face for a while before he pulled back.
You picked your head up now to look at him, his eyes lock onto yours and his eyebrows raise slightly. No words were shared between the two of you as you took in the look he gave you. There it was, the same eyes that made you feel little tingles in your belly as if you had eaten something bad.
“Whenever you look at me like that it makes me feel weird.” You said without hesitation, looking away as you tempted to dry your hands and move the bowl of now dirty water to the side. You mentally cursed yourself for saying that so easily, now knowing you couldn’t look back up at him.
“Look at you like what? And weird how?” He asked, leaning in with a confused look on his face when you raised your head again. You had already decided you were safer answering the first question rather than the second.
“Like how your parents look at one another, or how my parents look at one another. Or maybe how your brother looks at his mate, it’s confusing because I’m pretty sure you hated me for a while.” You said trying to joke about the last part and chuckle to yourself, quickly stopping as he hadn’t laughed in return.
He looks at you that way because he loves you, he wants to say it. It’s on the tip of his tongue and it’s the only thing spiraling in his mind now, but he can’t bring himself to just spit it out.
“I’ve never hated you” he said quietly, swallowing as you watched his Adam’s apple flex. “I could never hate you, I just hated how you made me feel.” He finished, his hand balling into a fist as he turned to the side, his hair tied up in a loose bun as two braids fell down on the side of his face.
You wore a confused expression on your face as you heard him speak. Maybe you were as stupid as he would taunt you to be, both him and your brother. What exactly was he talking about when he said that?
Only Eywa knows, and maybe Kiri.
“So, you hate that I make you feel mad all of the time?” You asked, now entirely clueless, feeling as if you two were getting somewhere before but now starting back at zero. He only shook his head and grunted, frustration being pent up as he wasn’t sure what other way he could get you to understand.
He did the only thing he could think of, the only thing he’s wanted to do to you for years now. He turned to you fully, cupping your face with one hand as he let the other roam freely before leaning in and kissing you.
Your previous confused expression was now replaced with a surprised one as he closed his eyes, and you did the only other thing you could do, kiss him back. You closed your eyes as you tilted your head to the side now, your lips interlocking with one another as the kiss deepened.
Out of panic you placed a hand behind the back of his head and one on his broad chest, not wanting to end the kiss so soon. You parted your lips gently as you let him enter, his tongue now touching yours.
You had now gotten closer to him, climbing atop him and straddled him now. His free hand now found its way to your lower back to keep you secure. Your hands never left his body as saliva was exchanged between the two of you.
Air, air was what you needed, you needed to breath. Honestly now with the way he was kissing you, you weren’t sure if he was giving you the air that you needed or if he was taking it away. However, or whatever it was you hadn’t entirely minded, it felt good.
Good wasn’t necessarily the word you were supposed to use at least, dizzy was more like it. As much as you didn’t want to let him go and feel the warmth of his mouth leave yours you had too, because he too was running out of air. He was quick to pull back first from the kiss, remembering his sister critiquing him to ‘take it easy’ as you were still in a weak state.
And it was clear you were as your hands fell down onto his shoulders, now gasping for air loudly. It’s as if you hadn’t even realized the string of saliva that had connected you two had been cut after you lowered your head. Your eyes were squeezed shut as your grip on his shoulders tightened as he caught his own breath.
His hand on your lower back now making its way higher as he rubbed your softly. He was warm, so warm, it made you just want to nuzzle into him and rest there, and you did just that. You rested your head along his shoulder and collarbone with a sigh, your breath stable now.
“I love you” he spoke, his accent poking out a little, both of his hands embracing you as he kept you in a firm hug. Your head shot up as you heard him, now looking him in the eyes with awe as you replayed it over and over again.
You cheered loudly, like very loud. He was sure if his family hadn’t gone out on their own little night adventures to go collect things for weaving, they would’ve heard you. You quickly shot up with your entire body now, embracing Lo’ak as you wrapped your arms around his neck and kissed his face all over.
Unfortunately, he had lost his balance and toppled back, now laying on the wooden floors with his arms still wrapped around you. His grip had only tightened as he fell, but it seemed as if you were too excited to even tell what had happened because your kisses to his face hadn’t stopped. He only smiled through them all, his fangs poking out as he did so.
It’s safe to say that whatever the two of you were feeling wasn’t one sided. Sure, it took several attempts, you two falling off the wrong path or becoming enemies after so long, and interference from possibly Eywa herself, but it worked.
Only Eywa knows how much Lo’ak never wanted this moment to end.
The two of you were happy and in love, that’s all that mattered.
And now it’s clear how the feeling was always mutual.

“i do care” — neteyam sully ⋆。˚ ❀
pt 2. of “i don’t care”
neteyam x fem!reader
warning: smut, p in v, choking kink, daddy kink, fingering, fingering at dinner table, mating. i think that’s it
the last few months have been eywa sent, you and your best friends brother sneaking around in a secret relationship. little small touches here and there but not too much to were anyone would notice until one night everyone in the sully family was supposed to be gone except neteyam agreed to stay and watch the hut, he only agreed so he could have alone time with you.
he had you perched up against his dads desk, his lips on your neck sucking harshly, his hand down your lion cloth with two fingers inside you making you scream his name. he quickens the pace of his fingers, your head thrown back against the wall, your cheats rising up and down fast “ma’teyam!” you cry “yes princess” he says against your neck “i’m gonna cum! please let me cum” you beg the tall boy in front of you, too caught up to notice your best friend and his dad standing in the door way “neteyam!” jake yells making him stop all movements, he closes his eyes “yes sir” he sighs. you can’t help but look at lo’ak, his face twisted with disgust not even anger or disappointment just disgust.
“get decent and get your ass out here. now.” jake demands closing the door, neteyam pulls his finger out of you licking them clean all the while staring at you, he bends down and kisses your head “i’m sorry you didn’t get to cum princess i’ll be back later” he feels so bad for leaving you like that “i love you” neteyam says running out to his dad.
he walks out slowly to his dad and brother, jake looking at him smiling but his brother looking at him with rage “you are disgusting!” lo’ak begins “i cannot believe you go around for months boning my best friend and none of you tell me.” lo’ak shoves neteyam back “if you really cared about me as a brother you wouldn’t be sleeping with her!” lo’ak has tears in his eyes. “i have to go” lo’ak looks down at his feet and runs back inside to see his best friend still sitting on his dads desk. he looks at you the same way he looked at neteyam tilting his head to the side giving you a stern look “lo-” you begin “no.” he cuts you off “you didn’t tell me?” his chest rising up and down so fast but so slow, you couldn’t answer you were silent which makes him scoff at you walking straight past you. making your stomach drop.

it’s been almost 2 weeks and lo’ak is still mad at you. ignoring you when you go out to the ilu for rides and he just happens to be there, but especially whenever you go over to the sully hut and have dinner with him or hang out with them because now you are promised to neteyam and neteyam is promised to you. and everyone knows it. one night in particular though you had just got your hair done by tsireya and it was the same as hers because you thought her hair so was beautiful the way she wore it, when she finished lo’ak, neteyam, and jake had got back from hunting. you and tsireya walk outside to greet your boys, jake walking past you two to go see neytiri, you walk down to neteyam and see he’s holding his arm firmly as if he’s trying to hide something from you “move your hand” you point to neteyams hand, he shakes his head “it is fine” he looks down until you grab both of his arms moving the one covering the other, “ma’teyam” you say softly when you see a long gash on his arm. “it is fine y/n, i don’t care it does not hurt that bad” he whines just wanting you not to worry “okay well i do care” you say looking at the cut then back up to him “i care about you neteyam”.
lo’ak looks away from tsireya and over at you and his brother, the worry and love in your eyes when you look at his brother is something he can’t miss and when he looks at neteyam he sees love, all love and that’s when he drops the grudge smiling realizing his brother is happy, “get a room” lo’ak says bumping your shoulder and smiling at you making you smile back. after lo’ak and tsireya walk away you look at neteyam, your eyes lit up “he’s not mad at me?” you say with a wide smile on your face, making neteyam smile and walk up closer you taking your lips in his while your still holding onto his arms. “your hair looks beautiful by the way”.

life was great, you and lo’ak went back to normal , you had the boy of your dreams everything was perfect. you just had a lot of stress being put on you by your mother and father about mating with neteyam. your parents had came with you to the Metkayina clan because jake insisted. “y/n! when are you going to mate with the sully boy!” your mother yells at you “whenever i want to!” you yell back, your dad trying a softer approach “honey we just need to know when you’re gonna mate with neteyam, that is all” you glare back at your dad shoving his hand off your back, “whenever. i. want. to.” you stand your ground. neteyam standing in the doorway of your family hut, he clears his throat “uh.. i am sorry to interrupt but um..” you’re still glaring at your father “you’re not interrupting a thing ma’teyam” you finally look away and walk out the door with your soon-to-be mate.
he puts an arm on your back and whispers in your ear “dinner at mine tonight, i have a surprise for you. my mate” the word rolling off his tongue.

your family is now having a dinner party with the sullys. lo’ak has his head down eating food because he’s tired of how loud and obnoxious both yalls parents are being, kiri is talking with the adults and tuk passed out in her hammock hours ago, you and neteyam sitting hand in hand under the table listening to the loud conversation happening between your parents. your mom laughing overly loud “so are we gonna talk about your son and our daughter mating” your father asks jake and neytiri making you and neteyam look up.
your cheeks start to heat up and sigh trying to keep your head down low as possible, neteyams hand removes itself from yours and places it on you thigh, you don’t think anything of this because well it’s something he always does, but you feel it go farther up you look at him “what are you doing?” you whisper to the boy sitting next to you while your parents are literally talking, “giving you the relaxation you need”
he shoves his hand down your lion cloth and his long thick fingers start to circle your clit, your breath hitches you suck in your bottom lip. “y/n my mate are you okay” neteyam asks you knowing good and well he’s gonna make you cum at the dinner table. you look at him with a small smile and you nod looking around the table “just feeling sick i think i need to throw up” removing neteyams hand from you and leaving. “i’ll go check on her” he gives an awkward chuckle and follows you back to your room.
“baby if i made you uncomfortable tell me i’m sorry” he says finally finding you curled up in your hammock. he takes your hand “i have something to show you anyways” you look at him not wanting to get up “up. now” he says pulling your arm, you groan and get up.
•°. *࿐ ⋆ •°. *࿐ ⋆ •°. *࿐ ⋆ •°. *࿐ ⋆
you both get off his ikran and he covers your eyes so you don’t see the beautiful sight in front of you. “are you ready?” he whispers and you nod. he takes his hands off your eyes revealing the beautiful tree of souls. it’s something you’ve always wanted to see but never got to “neteyam” you say jumping in his arms “it is beautiful” you smile wide now looking in his eyes. “i never brought any girl here because i felt they weren’t right for me, but you.. you are right for me” tears start to form in your eyes “neteyam..” he places a hand on your cheek “i want you to mate with me” he says and it looks like a weight has been pulled off his shoulders.
“yes! i love you” you cry making him smile “the last time i saw you cry you were saying how much you hated me” he chuckles. you put both of your hands on his cheeks “oh ma’teyam.., i could never hate you”you say as his cheek leans into your hand.
•°. *࿐ ⋆ •°. *࿐ ⋆ •°. *࿐ ⋆ •°. *࿐ ⋆
he is no longer your soon to be mate. he is your mate. but right now he’s balls deep in you with both of your queues connected. you’re straddling his lap but he’s still fucking you dumb. “yes! fuck” you scream this time you feel everything, you feel what he feels and he feels so good. he lets out small groans smacking your ass thrusting into you fast and hard making your walls tighten around him. he lets out a moan as his head leans back “fuck.. this pussy is so tight” he’s gripping your ass so hard it’s probably gonna leave marks, you grip around him again, he looks at you gripping your jaw making you look at him “this is my pussy” his strokes now being painfully slow “i want you cum on dick just like this, looking at me while my dick is moving in and out of you slowly” you whine because you want to go faster, you shake your head “faster” you beg “keep begging sweetheart maybe i’ll give you what you want” you growls “please ma’teyam! please fuck me faster”.
how could he say no if you asked so nicely? he works his hips up faster and faster than he was going before making your eyes roll back into your head “fuck daddy i’m gonna cum!” he stops all his movements, you realizing what you just say. your eyes shoot open to his full of lust “what did you just call me?” he says with a shit eating smirk of his face “nothing” you try and lose eye contact but he won’t let you he thrusts upward hitting your g-spot “what did you say” you sigh knowing you’re not getting out of this “i called you daddy” you look down.
he groans at the name “do it again princess, beg daddy to fuck your pussy some more” the hand that was on your cheeks now on your throat “daddy please fuck me, i wanna cum” he smiles at you and and picks up his pace again.
“that’s right baby cum on daddy’s cock” the knot in your stomach snaps leaving you a moaning mess on neteyam, “you wanna take daddy’s cum?” he pants, you nod frantically “please cum daddy i need it” and with that he lets out a long groan and lets his thick hot white cum paint your gummy walls. he cleaned you up and put your clothes back on you, he pulls you in close and kisses your forehead “i love you my mate”.

PART 1 ; PART 2 (wip)
Tumblr media
Set a good example to your siblings.
Someday, you will lead the people.
Be strong.
There are no room for mistakes.
All your life, you have been in constant reminder that you are no ordinary child of any na'vi. You are the eldest child of a remarkable olo'eyktan and an incomparable tsahik. At the moment of your birth, people have looked up to you and recognised your potential as a leader who will promote harmony and tranquility amongst the clan. The very same way your parents would.
You did not fail to please them. Everything any other na'vi your age could accomplish, you did better. Whether it's hunting, weaving, or singing. Everything comes so naturally to you.
Because that’s what you had known all your life. Ronal made sure that you were working hard and shaped you to be the leader she always knew you were destined to be. Be it as an olo’eyktan or tsahik, she knows you will thrive.
Was feeling such intense pressure normal? You frequently get the illusion that someone is awaiting for you to screw up before grabbing you by the throat and making a mockery of how fake you are. You've always lived in constant fear of disappointing the clan. As a child of a great leader, you musn’t slip. Who are you if you cannot carry it all?
But you were at your breaking point. You were not sure if you could handle one more task you were not so sure of you would succeed. It almost felt like Eywa wanted to test you.
“Our children, (Y/N), Ao’nung, and Tsireya will show you what to do.”
While the instruction from your fathers felt like a smack in the face, you simply cannot bring yourself to defy it. When Ao'nung publicly objected to working as a teacher to the new arrivals, you felt a nasty pang of jealousy. You wish you had the capability of doing that.
A hand on your shoulder stripped you away from your thoughts as you looked to the person. It was your father. “I trust that you will take good care of them.”
Forcing your lips upwards, you said, “Of course, father.”
Tonowari smiled before he dismissed. You didn’t miss a beat when it came to your tasks. “Tsireya, show them the village whilst leading them to the marui pods in the right section. Ao’nung, help them with their baggage. I’ll look for a spot.”
Your younger brother didn’t hide his annoyance at your order, in contrast to your sister who looks rather delighted and excited to interact with them in any way. Before walking away, you observed them one more time. You paused on your position when your aqua-blue eyes locked with his yellow ones.
No smiles or any signs of welcome were shown by you. Your eyes were empty as your gazes locked before finally leaving.
“Neteyam.”
The boy looked at his mother who called for him, he didn’t even notice his eyes stayed on your disappearing figure.
“Take your stuff,” she said. Neteyam nodded and focused on his own problem now, adjusting to his new home. Although, it hardly felt like home because everything was so different since the Metkayina are sea people.
Even more so when the people had not been so welcoming to his family, except for Tsireya. She had always made them feel like it was okay and told them that her clan has never experienced accepting refuge from outsiders, especially with people who had demon blood.
Her words didn’t give Neteyam any comfort. Jake expected him to adjust to the place easily and be happy about it. For the sake of his siblings, he didn’t complain nor show any indication that he hated his new home. He was frustrated, no one was making it easy for him.
You weren’t making it easy for him since day one. He didn’t miss the backhanded compliments and the unnecessary comments made specifically for him. Neteyam doesn’t know why what you hold against him seeing that you had a normal relationship with his siblings.
The day you showed Kiri a bit further to the sea but not beyond the reef, she had seen a lot of beautiful ceatures and corals. She wouldn’t stop talking about how beautiful it was and how she couldn’t wait to go there again. You don’t trust her to go there by herself yet so you decided you’d come with her.
Neteyam didn’t think you would get along with Lo’ak because he’s... him. But, you did. The two of you weren’t close friends, however, you two weren’t just strangers. Lo’ak was carefree and does what he sees best fit for himself. It felt nice to be around someone who didn’t care who you are.
Tuk sees you as a good mentor. You had guided her of the way of water from the start with long patience. Something you didn’t have with him.
For some reason, your act of kindness and hospitality doesn’t exist with him. You did not miss to comment on his mistakes, even if it were little. And this does not go unnoticed by his siblings.
“Bro, maybe you’re not just doing it right,” laughed Lo’ak. It had always been him who was in the shadow of his brother. He couldn’t help but tease him about being the slow one.
Neteyam rolled his eyes. “No, I am. Tsireya said it is not easy to do and takes time. (Y/n) just doesn’t like me.”
“Why would (Y/n) not like you?” asked Kiri.
The boy huffed in annoyance and threw his arms up in defeat. “I don’t know! It’s immature of her. It’s always ‘you are not doing it right. Are you really a son of a great warrior?’” He pursed his lips, ears flattening on his head. That particular remark really hit him the most.
Lo’ak snickered, earning a smack from Kiri. He clicked his tongue and glared at her. She rolled her eyes before looking at Neteyam softly. It was evident that her older brother felt aggravated and Lo’ak is taking a bit of pleasure in that.
“Why don’t you speak to her, brother? I’m sure she has her reasons.” Despite not knowing why you’re attitude towards Neteyam is different, she decided to give you the benefit of the doubt. She is sure you are a good person.
Neteyam nodded. “Yeah...” he quietly said.
Tumblr media
You and Neteyam trained separately from the group. While they were in the water practising their breathing, the both of you were sitting on the sand.
As Neteyam is known for being a skilled hunter within his clan for his age, your father requested for you to teach him. He hasn't yet hunted beyond the reef, but for the time being, all you're doing is showing him how to manufacture spears and arrows. Given that he had prior experience making his own bows, it wasn't too challenging.
“When will we go hunt?” aksed Neteyam as he paused in sharpening the tip of his arrow, his speargun laying beside him. Your speargun that you gave to him, but he didn’t need to know that.
“When your aim in water is perfect.”
He furrowed his eyebrows. “But my aim last time was good.”
You rolled your eyes. “For an amateur, yes. It only hit the fin which is why it managed to swim away. The positioning of your arm, it was good. However, you failed to consider the incoming waves because it affects the release.” You shake your head, resuming in decorating your spear. “And my father says you’re a good hunter. But I do not see it.”
There it was again.
Neteyam lowered his arrow, taking a deep breath to stay calm. He looked at you sternly. “What have I done for you to treat me like this?”
You paused, turning your head to him. “Treat you like what?”
“Like you don’t like me.”
“And how do I exactly treat you like I don’t like you?”
He scoffed. “You treat me differently from my siblings. Why?” His jaw clenched and his eyes were sharp. He was losing his patience with you and it was clear as day.
You dared to anger him more by chuckling. “Why do you care if I treat you differently?”
“Because I did nothing wrong to be treated like this-” Neteyam paused, breathing heavily. He peered at the waves hitting the sand before looking at you. “What is wrong with you?”
Perhaps he shouldn't have questioned you about his mistreatment. He should have coped with it and thrown it back his head as he did whenever his parents would give him more responsibilities than he was capable of doing. The look on your face showed you were amused and happy that he was bothered. It made him wonder if that was your goal the entire time.
“You look like a baby. Nose scrunched and tail wagging.” Laughing. You aren’t taking him seriously.
Neteyam shook his head, weary. He knew he should have kept it to himself. He stood up, clutching his weapons in his arms. You grasped his wrist just as he was about to take his first step away from you.
“What are you doing?”
He pushed your hand away harshly. “Let’s continue our lesson tomorrow.” His voice was strict, almost like a warning.
While staring intently at him, you disregarded the burning sensation in your palm when he dug his nails into your skin. “And who gets to decide that? Huh? Cant take a little joke?”
“I have been trying. Trying to understand why you are acting like this. But you treat me like I do not deserve to be here.”
“You don’t.”
Your words pierced his heart in a way he didn’t like. His eyes flashed emotions but they were gone in a second. He refused to let you see him.
You shifted in closer until you could see his chest panting heavily. Tilting your head up, you lock eyes with him once more, just like you had when you first met him. Only this time, rather than appearing empty, your eyes were brimming with rage.
“You are not working hard enough to be here. Your little efforts are useless. My father was quick to accept you and your family, yet you are lacking. All my time is wasted on you. Do you expect me to be with you all the way? Son of a great warrior-”
“Maybe I have a bad teacher.” His breath hit your face and it made you realise just how close you two were. Your lips parted. One more step and you would be close enough to lean on his-
“Sister? Is everything alright?” Tsireya approached the pair cautiously, everyone was behind her wondering what was going on. They just finished their lesson and it was a success, seeing that they had a contented look on their faces.
Neteyam bumped his shoulder against yours roughly as he walked past, his hair swaying side to side showing how exasperated he was. You clenched your teeth at his action, holding yourself from cursing at him publicly.
“What happened?” Kiri questioned, stepping closely to you.
“Nothing,” you replied. “I have things to do.” And then you walked away, ignoring their calls for you.
Bad teacher? You were one of the best of your age in Awa’tlu. His words and actions created an impact more than you thought it would. Why should you care about his opinion? It doesn’t matter. His say of your methods don’t matter.
Kiri and Lo’ak shared a look. The tension between you and Neteyam got worse and they fear that interfering will cost their life.

Part 1
Part 2
Neteyam Sully x Oc x Slight Lo'ak Sully
Growing up, Ayvrrur possessed a heart forged in strength and determination. She firmly believed that if she could become strong enough, she would never have to endure pain again. Never again would she be weak, she vowed to herself, and this promise became the guiding light of her existence.
At the tender age of five, Ayvrrur faced a heart-wrenching loss as her father passed away. By the time she turned ten, her mother was gone too, leaving Ayvrrur in a world that seemed both vast and empty. This double blow of tragedy became the catalyst for Ayvrrur to shut herself off from the world, building walls around her heart. She clung to one goal with unwavering determination: to become the greatest warrior, a promise she had made to her mother on her deathbed.
In the clan, there was only one person who could match her: Toruk Makto's golden child, his eldest son, Neteyam Sully. From a young age, the two were evenly matched in everything they did. Every aspect of their lives became a fierce competition, and soon, no one else existed in their world but each other. The drive to outdo one another consumed their young minds, a rivalry born from their earliest days that seemed impossible to extinguish.
It felt strange for them to be anything but competitors, as they never learned how to interact outside their constant contests. Little did they know what Eywa had in store for them, a destiny intertwined in ways they could never have imagined.
⋇⋆✦⋆⋇⋇⋆✦⋆⋇⋇⋆✦⋆⋇⋇⋆✦⋆⋇⋇⋆✦⋆⋇⋇⋆✦⋆⋇⋇⋆✦⋆⋇⋇⋆
"Ma'eywa, give me the strength not to pull all the braids out of his stupid head," Ayvrrur muttered through gritted teeth, her eyes locked with Neteyam's gleaming orbs. A proud smirk played on his lips, which only deepened the frown etched on her face.
"You can't be saying stuff like that, snaytu (loser). People might think you want me dead," Neteyam's smirk didn't falter as he stepped out of position, turning to examine his perfect shot. The arrow had landed right in the creature's neck, a flawless kill.
They had been led by a fellow Na'vi warrior into the kinglor forest to practice their hunting skills. However, for Neteyam and Ayvrrur, it was another golden opportunity to showcase their skills and outdo each other. So far, it wasn’t going in her favor, as Neteyam had secured the first kill.
"Well, for your information, I do want you dead, Neteyam," Ayvrrur grumbled in displeasure, grabbing her arrow and beginning to search for another scarab crawler to shoot. However, she froze when she heard low growls nearby.
Locking eyes with Neteyam, the two teens drew their weapons and stood back to back, attempting to locate the source of the noise. They were not naive; having lived in these forests for years, they knew a palulukan's growl when they heard one.
"When I say go, follow—" Neteyam couldn't finish his sentence as the creature leaped out of the greenery toward them. Without wasting a moment, Neteyam grabbed Ayvrrur's wrist and started sprinting. They were not prepared for this, as their training had only involved hunting smaller creatures.
"YOU DIPSHIT, YOU DIDN'T SAY GO!" Ayvrrur shouted behind Neteyam as they ran, the palulukan gaining speed on them.
"WELL, I'M SORRY. DID YOU NOT SEE THE PALULUKAN JUMPING FORWARD TO TRY AND KILL US?" Neteyam snapped back, trying to navigate the dense forest while silently cursing his companion's stupidity, even though he knew she was one of the smartest Na'vi his age...much smarter than his brother by far.
After gaining some distance, Neteyam immediately pulled Ayvrrur into a small crawlspace amidst cave walls. It was sort of below ground and in between stone, so the palulukan couldn't reach them even if it tried. Unfortunately, the space was very small.
Here they were, cramped in a narrow hole with their bodies touching, the only light coming from the bioluminescent freckles on their faces. "Stop touching me, dumbass," Ayvrrur tried to push away Neteyam's hands that were laid against her shoulders and head, but there was barely enough room to move.
"Where else am I supposed to put them, you skxawng?" Neteyam growled, his hands roughly pushed away only for his elbows to meet the rough cave walls. His hands now found themselves resting on Ayvrrur's waist.
They could still hear the beast outside the cave growling, so they couldn't move any time soon. "Hold still, you," Neteyam whispered, fighting back his words as he could hear the palulukan right by his ear near the opening.
He met eyes with Ayvrrur in the dim light. Neteyam’s heart rate sped up slightly as their fingers brushed against each other in the cramped space. He tried to focus on the situation at hand—the palulukan that could attack at any moment—but his mind kept getting distracted by the feel of her beside him, her body pressed tightly against his. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart and ignore the way his body responded to her proximity. The tension between them was palpable, a mix of fear and something more, something neither of them had had the time to acknowledge.
He glanced over at her quickly, noticing the way her face was paler than usual, his ears twitching slightly in concern. He wanted to reach out and comfort her, but with the limited space, it was near impossible to do so. "You… You’re okay, right?" he whispered, his voice low, trying not to disturb the silence and attract the palulukan's attention.
He was keenly aware of every point of contact between their bodies, his chest rising and falling more rapidly than usual. He could feel the heat emanating from her body, and it made his thoughts fuzzy. He cursed inwardly, mentally reprimanding himself for getting distracted in such a dangerous situation.
"I'm fine. Stop acting as if you care," was all he heard before he let out a scoff, his mind attempting to ignore their closeness while convincing himself that this was his worst enemy.
⋇⋆✦⋆⋇⋇⋆✦⋆⋇⋇⋆✦⋇⋇⋆✦⋆⋇⋇⋆✦⋆⋇⋇⋆✦⋆⋇⋇⋆✦⋆⋇⋇⋆✦
"Lo'ak, Dad sai—" Neteyam's voice rang out as he entered the familiar hut, only to be met with his brother conversing with someone he'd much rather not see. Ever since that moment two years ago in the cave, he couldn't help but feel his heart beat furiously at the sight of his rival, the person who he was supposed to hate.
And there Ayvrrur was, sitting there on her knees with a familiar glare on her face (mostly caused by him). She sat so... so perfectly, with her hair braided neatly and adorned with flowers and beads embedded into it, that he just wished he could touch. Her sharp jaw was clenched as she watched him. He just wished she would relax more; stress wasn’t good for her... but wait, wasn't he supposed to wish stress upon her so that he could be at the top?
The thoughts were long forgotten once he heard the sudden voice of his brother ring out, "ARGH SHIT, I FORGOT TO CLEAN THE IKRAN GROUNDS!" Lo'ak got up, holding his head in his hands.
"Yes, bro, that was what I was here to remind you of," Neteyam glared at his brother for forgetting his punishment for coming home too late last night.
"Avyr, please, can you help? It will only be for a bit. Please, I'm going to get into so much trouble if I don't get it done by today. Please, please, please," Lo'ak pleaded with the girl, grabbing her wrist with one hand while placing the other on her cheek.
"Go do it yourself, skxawng," Ayvrrur groaned as she tried pulling out of his grip, only to be met with a mischievous grin from the latter.
"Oh, so should I just tell Neteyam wha—" "FINE, I'LL HELP YOU!"
Neteyam's eyes narrowed as he watched Lo'ak and Ayvrrur disappear into the distance. Curiosity gnawed at him, and he found himself unable to shake off the feeling that something significant was happening right under his nose. Determined to uncover the truth, he decided to follow them, keeping his distance to avoid being detected.
As he trailed behind them through the lush forest, memories of his and Ayvrrur's shared past surfaced unbidden. He recalled the countless times they had competed against each other, their rivalry pushing them to their limits. But there were also moments, fleeting and rare, where he had glimpsed a different side of Ayvrrur—a side that was vulnerable, caring, and fiercely loyal. He couldn't help but wonder if those moments had meant as much to her as they had to him.
Eventually, Neteyam found himself at the edge of the Ikran grounds, where Lo'ak and Ayvrrur were hard at work cleaning. He hid behind a large tree, watching them interact. Ayvrrur's demeanor was different; she was more relaxed, her movements fluid and graceful as she worked alongside Lo'ak. Their conversation was punctuated by laughter and playful banter, a stark contrast to the tense and competitive interactions she had with Neteyam.
"Why does she look so happy with him?" Neteyam muttered to himself, a pang of jealousy twisting in his chest. He had always been the one to challenge her, to push her, but seeing her like this made him question whether he had been wrong in his approach all along.
His thoughts were interrupted when he heard Ayvrrur speak in a low, serious tone. "Lo'ak, promised not to tell Neteyam remember hes just going to go blab to your dad about it"
Neteyam's heart pounded in his chest as he strained to hear more. What secret could she be hiding that she didn't want him to know and he was not that much of a blabbermouth at all what was she on?
Lo'ak's voice was equally serious. "Yeah yeah guess i did promise but cmon Ayvrrur. Bro you gotta be careful. If anything happens dad would skin me alive for putting you in harms way."
Ayvrrur nodded, her expression resolute. "Lo'ak your acting as if its my secret when its yours you skxawng we shouldn't even do it anymore"
Neteyam's mind raced. What were they planning planning? What stupid thing did Lo'ak want to do now, this time even going as far as to dragging Avyr with him?
Just as he was about to reveal himself and confront them, a sudden commotion erupted from deeper within the forest. The ground trembled, and the distant roars of a large predator filled the air. Neteyam's instincts kicked in, and he saw Lo'ak and Ayvrrur freeze, their eyes wide with alarm.
"We need to get out of here, now!" Ayvrrur shouted, grabbing Lo'ak's arm and pulling him toward the direction they had come from.
Neteyam emerged from his hiding place, sprinting to catch up with them. "Wait! What's happening?"
Ayvrrur's eyes widened in surprise, but there was no time for explanations. "Neteyam, we have to go! A palulukan—!"
Without another word, the three of them ran through the forest, their movements synchronized by years of training and instinct. The roars grew louder, closer, and Neteyam's mind raced to come up with a plan. What luck Neteyam and Avyr had it was always the stupid Paululukan wasnt it, couldnt it just leave them alone for once.
"We need to lead it away from the village," he said breathlessly. "If it gets too close, it'll endanger everyone and it might try and hunt the Ikran."
Ayvrrur nodded, her eyes fierce with determination. "I'll be the bait. You two find a way to trap it."
"No way," Neteyam protested. "We do this together."
A tense silence followed, but then Ayvrrur gave a curt nod. "Fine. Together."
They continued running, using their knowledge of the forest to navigate quickly. The palulukan was relentless, crashing through the underbrush with terrifying speed. Neteyam glanced at Ayvrrur, seeing the fear and resolve in her eyes. He realized in that moment just how much he cared for her, not just as a rival, but as someone he wanted to protect.
As they reached a narrow ravine, Neteyam formulated a plan. "We'll lure it to the edge and then force it down into the pit. It's the only way."
Ayvrrur and Lo'ak nodded, and they quickly set the plan into motion. Neteyam and Lo'ak positioned themselves on either side of the ravine while Ayvrrur stood at the edge, taunting the palulukan. The beast roared and charged at her, but at the last second, she leaped aside. The palulukan's momentum carried it over the edge, and it tumbled into the pit below, its roars echoing off the walls.
Breathing heavily, the three of them peered over the edge, watching as the palulukan struggled but failed to climb out. Relief washed over them, but Neteyam's mind was still racing with questions.
"What is going on? What were you and my brother talking about?"
Ayvrrur sighed, her expression softening. "It's a long story, Neteyam."
As they made their way back to the village, Neteyam couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation. Whatever Ayvrrur was hiding from him about Lo'ak, he was determined to stand by their side and face it together. For the first time in years, their rivalry seemed to give way to something deeper, something that Eywa herself might have foreseen.

"Smell that, it's wet grass and smoke in my hair."
Chapter one
Next chapter ->
Summary: the Sully family moves to another city after Neytiri gets a new job there as an Archery teacher. In consequence, the kids go to a new high-school where they meet new people and also face people from their past, and basically just live their lives as teenagers.
Pairings: Neteyam x Ao'nung, Lo'ak x Tsireya, Kiri x Rotxo
Notes: I'm indecisive so I didn't know if I wanted this to be a Human Au or just a Na'vi fic, so you can imagine them as humans or Na'vi! it's up to you! I tried not to describe their appearance too much to make this easier, but I'll use human and Na'vi images for the chapters.
Also, I chose the title because it's a lyric from Townie by Mitski, and it makes me think so much about being a teenager so I think it's appropriate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Includes: kind of Slice of Life?, High-school au, Neteyam, Ao'nung and Rotxo are 18, Lo'ak, Tsireya, and Kiri are 17, Modern au, enemies to lovers, ex's to friends to lovers, daddy issues, bullying, crushes, hurt/comfort. I'll be updating the tags once I write more!
2.1k words
It was early in the morning when Jake was driving his kids to their new school. They just moved to their new house after Neytiri got a new job as an archery teacher, they decided it was better to move than to have Neytiri traveling everyday, they also saw it as an opportunity to buy a bigger house where they would live more comfortably as the big family they were.
Neteyam glanced at Lo'ak's phone and saw that he was looking at old pictures of Tsireya and him, Neteyam couldn't help but feel worried about his little brother's situation, even though he thought Tsireya had good reasons to break up, but it also wasn't something they couldn't work up.
"Do you still miss her?" Neteyam looked at his brother's face who couldn't stop looking longingly at his ex girlfriend's picture.
"Of course bro, I miss her more than anything"
"and have you talked to her lately?" Lo'ak sighed.
"Nah, I don't think she wants to talk to me."
"I mean, if you ask me, I think she would wanna hear about you, so she'll know that you care about her, like, that's the whole thing about your break up." Lo'ak sighed, putting his phone down.
"I don't know bro, I still feel kinda embarrassed, I was so clueless and thought everything was just fine between us."
"Okay but… Now that we live in the same city as Reya, what would you do if you run into her?" Lo'ak laughed at that scenario, because it was an impossible thing, he thought.
"Bro this is a big city, what are the odds of me running into her." Neteyam stared silently at him, confused.
"Is that actually a joke?"
"what do you mean?" Now Lo'ak was even more confused than his brother.
"Lo'ak, are you being for real?"
"About what?! please don't play with me right now I swear."
"Bro we are attending to the same school as her, and you are both on the same grade" Neteyam felt like he was explaining to a toddler that two plus two is four. "Are you telling me you didn't know that?" Judging by Lo'ak's wide eyes, no, he didn't knew that.
Lo'ak unbuckled his seatbelt, being his dramatic self. "Dad stop the car." Jake looked at him through the rear view mirror.
"Lo'ak don't start, put your seatbelt back on or i'm gonna crash into a tree."
Lo'ak's face was pale as he looked at Neteyam once again "Why wouldn't you tell me about this shit?!"
"Cause' I thought you knew what was your girlfriend's school smartass! that's why she broke up with you, you don't even know something so basi-" Before he could finish, Lo'ak grabbed his hair in a fist.
"Take that back!" Now, Neteyam was trying to push his brother back.
"Get off of me!" At this point, they were both pulling their hair and pushing each other's faces.
"Hey, hey!" Jake suddenly stopped the car, making both of them stop immediately and look at their father with frightened faces "You two are way too grown to be fighting like this, specially you, Neteyam" the mentioned boy's ears laid flat against his head. "Now, both of you, get out of the car and walk to school, let's see if you keep misbehaving like this when you arrive."
The brothers looked at their father with wide eyes, but soon they just looked down and said "Yes, sir" as they opened the door and got out. They weren't far from the school, they could see it from where they were standing, but it was embarrassing that they got kicked out of the car because of their little fight
the walk to school was silent and the tension was palpable, Lo'ak felt guilty and he could also feel Neteyam's anger irradiate from him like fire, but once they got to the entrance, the older brother patted the younger's head.
"If you need anything just text me, okay?" He may be angry because of the scolding they got because of their little argument, but he was still worried about Lo'ak and his situation.
Lo'ak walked fast into school because he didn't wanna run into that particular someone, meanwhile, Neteyam wasn't in any hurry so he just walked like a normal person.
Until he saw Kiri surrounded by a group of guys laughing at her.
Tumblr media
After an eventful car ride to school with her beloved family, Kiri arrives to school before her brothers, of course.
"Have a nice day baby" Jake watches her get out of the car with her green backpack "If someone bothers you don't hesitate to ask your brothers for help, okay?" She nodded.
"Alright dad, see ya!"
As she's walking towards the entrance, she spots some beautiful flowerpots with big leaves covering them. She didn't knew yet, but that was part of he gardening club. At the entrance, if you walk a few steps to the side of the building, you will find a narrow but long greenhouse with some vegetables growing inside that the students sowed themselves. outside theres two white benches in between flowers, cactuses and other beautiful plants that are well cared for by the students.
She strongly believes in talking to plants and giving them positive energy to grow stronger and beautiful, she also finds it really therapeutic talking to them, and the best part is that they'll never judge her
Unlike some other skxawnks.
"Look!" She hears a masculine voice getting closer, along with some giggles. "Is she talking to a plant? you gotta be kidding me" It was some Metkayina boys that were getting closer.
"she's a freak, man" Kiri looked at them with furrowed brows and they could tell that she wasn't Metkayina. "And she's not from here... She must be from the forest."
Kiri rolls her eyes and sighs annoyed as she tries to leave the garden, when the tallest boy gets in her way. He had braided hair and a bun along with some loose curls. His blue eyes were so blue they were almost clear, and Kiri always thought blue eyes looked terrifying.
"Hey, chill." He laughs mockingly "I doubt we interrupted an important conversation here, Forest girl"
"Please just, leave me alone" Kiri tries to get out of this situation but the guys just kept walking around her like vultures, making her dizzy.
When Neteyam arrives, is almost like a sixth sense activates on his brain. He gets closer to the laughter, where the garden is, he doesn't understand what's going on until he hears his sister's voice. He walks at a fast pace and throws his backpack to the ground once he arrives to this circle formed around his younger sister.
He sees the taller boy standing in front of his sister, preventing her from leaving while the other boys around them just laugh. By grabbing the taller boy's shoulder, he turns him around, finding a stunned look in his face.
Neteyam didn't even need to raise his voice to be intimidating, his eyes were just enough to feel your blood getting colder.
"Leave her alone," His voice sounded almost like a growl, Ao'nung felt goosebumps. "Now."
Koro, Ao'nung's friend, was quick to talk back, "Who the fuck do you think you-" But Ao'nung stopped him right away.
Looking at him up and down with a smirk, he raised both of his hands in surrender, letting the darker skinned boy know he was done annoying Kiri.
The girl walked towards her brother just wanting to leave the scene, but Neteyam and Ao'nung held eye contact for a few more seconds until the siblings turned around and left.
Ao'nung's friends looked at him confused, while he just kept looking at Neteyam's back, feeling just as confused as them.
"Who's that?"
Tumblr media
Once they were far enough, Neteyam quickly stopped to check on his little sister, he scanned her up and down with his eyes and held her head in both of his hands to talk to her.
"Are you alright? Did they hurt you?" Kiri avoided eye contact.
"I'm fine, It's just... I don't wanna talk about it right now." The bell rang indicating their classes were starting, the hallway appeared to be busier at every second.
"If anybody bothers you again just call me and I'll rip their throats off with my teeth, alright?" Kiri smiled, Neteyam shuffled her hair and then they parted ways.
The first period was over, the Sully brothers didn't knew anyone yet other than Tsireya, so they were spending their free time at the school gym, not doing anything in particular, just chatting.
"Do you think that if I talked to her we could start dating again?" Neteyam sighed, actually getting tired of the Tsireya situation.
"I mean, you could at least try instead of asking me that same question over and over." Neteyam rolled his eyes.
"Yeah but what if-" before Lo'ak could finish that sentence, a guy came up to them with a basketball in his hands.
"Hey, we need two more players, are you guys up to?" Neteyam smiled and took the basketball in his hands as he walked away with the boy.
"C'mon Lo!" Neteyam shouted.
"Alright, alright!" Lo'ak followed his brother even though right now he just wanted to keep talking about his situation.
Lucky for them, they both played basketball since they were kids when their dad taught them. Neteyam even won some trophies when he was younger, which made his father really proud. On the other hand, Lo'ak wanted to be as good as his brother at basketball and make his father proud too, but he just couldn't, was it because Neteyam was taller? maybe he was faster? or maybe he just jumped higher? he didn't knew for certain, and that sometimes made him feel impotent.
They were getting into their positions when Neteyam noticed something, or more specifically, someone, on the other team. It was the guy that was making fun of Kiri earlier.
When they made eye contact neither of them looked away, Neteyam looked at him with a frown and Ao'nung at first had a surprised look on his face which soon switched into a smug grin.
When the game started, Ao'nung was baffled at how fast Neteyam was, they weren't even playing an actual game, this was just for fun, but the boy seemed so immersed in the game, like a professional player. Everyone noticed how good Neteyam was and how in sync him and Lo'ak were, probably because they played the sport together for years.
The bell rang just in time when their game ended, it wasn't a surprise that Neteyam's team won, everyone congratulated him, he was the new kid and he already was a sensation amongst their classmates, which made Lo'ak feel a bit left out.
"Yo Neteyam, are you joining the basketball team?" a boy from Neteyam's team asked while walking next to him
Neteyam found himself surrounded by people talking to him about how amazing he was at basketball and that he should definitely join the school's team.
Tumblr media
"That's amazing son! Do you know when are the tryouts?"
The day was finally over, they were having dinner when Jake asked Neteyam about his day. He knew if he told his dad about the whole basketball thing he would be so proud, and he was, his eyes looked brighter when he heard the news.
"I think they start next week, they also play basket in between classes so maybe I'll practice with them but i'm not sure." He was moving his food with a fork while he spoke, Jake looked at him with a confused frown.
"What do you mean you're not sure? you have to do it! So they'll know you're motivated." He raised his voice unconsciously.
"Jake" Neytiri said as a warning, she knew her husband gets a little carried away when it's about his son playing sports, and Neteyam was such a people pleaser he would do whatever it would take to never disappoint his parents. So if Jake told Neteyam that he had to train 24/7 until he passed out, his son will most certainly do it.
"i'll go to the tryouts too dad." Lo'ak said looking at his father, who looked at him a little less excited.
"That's good, son, but you have to keep your grades up if you wanna be on a team, alright?" Lo'ak sighed and looked down at his plate, expecting a happier reaction from his dad.
"Yes, sir."
"Speaking of joining things" Kiri spoke, trying to ease the tension in the table. "I joined the gardening club, the "tryout" was being good at science so I just signed in." she joked.
"That's great darling" Neytiri smiled "You'll meet a lot of smart people like you then." Kiri laughed softly.
"I hope so, at least I won't be joining a sports team, everyone there is crazy." Lo'ak and Neteyam pretended to be offended.
"At least I won't be surrounded by nerds" Lo'ak talked back playfully, but Kiri looked at Neteyam.
"You'll be surrounded by hot athletic boys that's why you'll join the team" her older brother looked at her with wide eyes and his mouth full of food as he spoke.
"Why are you attacking me! I didn't even said anything!" bits of food fell out of his mouth, Neytiri put a napkin on his mouth, trying not to laugh.
"Teyam that's disgusting! behave on the table!"

I TOLD YOU THINGS. | 𖥂 lo’ak sully
── .✦ part 1 of: PREMONITIONS
Tumblr media
wc: 5.5k
pairing: lo’ak x fem!na’vi reader (aged up characters for plot purposes!)
story description: after completing iknimaya, you were so sure that you and him were going to happen. but, reality reared its ugly head and your dreams were just dreams. lo’ak had suddenly severed your 16-year-long bond with him, leaving you behind to pick up the broken pieces.
contains: angst, slowburn, childhood friends to enemies to lovers, and fluff (maybe soon)
warnings: none, except hurt feelings of course.
➙ PART 2:
a/n: this is my FIRST avatar fic EVER. i did not expect to write this much for 2 days, or nearly experience zero writing block. man, was i on a roll. anyway, this was meant to be a one-shot, but it’s most likely going to turn into a 2 parter. maybe if this part does well… i’ll write the next part!
Tumblr media
It didn’t bother you as much as it used to—losing touch with Lo’ak and the Sully family. Or at least, that’s what you told yourself. These days, dinner at eclipse was spent around a different circle of friends and family, and the once-frequent glimpses of the Sullys at distant bonfires had grown rare, fading into the past.
You had no reason to dwell on it. The here and now mattered more than old memories. Or so you tried to believe.
“Who’s ready for a round of s’mores?” D’yla’s voice rang out, cheerful and unbothered, as she raised a stick skewered with marshmallow high in the air. A chorus of agreement followed, hands lifting in unison around the crackling bonfire. Its warmth was inviting, the glow reflecting the growing camaraderie of the group.
“If it weren’t for the Sullys,” D’yla added with a grin, “we wouldn’t even have these… cotton edibles.”
You couldn’t help but laugh softly at the term, though it didn’t quite reach your chest, where a familiar pang settled instead. The mention of the Sullys was always like that—stirring up feelings you weren’t sure what to do with. They were still as admirable as ever, their deeds sung by the people of the clan. But that’s all they were to you now: stories. Praised figures. Not the friends you used to know. Not anymore.
Did it bother any of them? Maybe it did. Neteyam, Kiri, Tuk, and even their parents had made small efforts over the years to keep in touch, but life pulled everyone in different directions. The distance had grown so naturally, so imperceptibly, that it became easy to accept. Your mother’s words echoed in your mind often: “That’s just the way life goes.”
But it wasn’t completely severed—not yet. You knew the Sullys didn’t want to let go entirely. The occasional gestures were proof of that. All except for one: Lo’ak.
Of all the Sullys, he seemed unbothered by the widening chasm. Maybe even willing to let it turn into a full-fledged canyon. And for reasons you couldn’t understand, that hurt the most.
Because for the longest time, he had mattered the most.
By the time you passed your Iknimaya, the two of you had become little more than strangers. The shift was so sudden, so stark, that it felt almost unreal. But it was real. Real enough that you stopped asking his siblings about him. Real enough that you stopped asking the entire family.
They all had futures to look toward—Neteyam especially, with the weight of being the future Olo’eyktan on his shoulders. You couldn’t bring yourself to beg for answers. You wouldn’t risk making them worry about you and Lo’ak any further.
If this was the end of some childhood story, then so be it. Some endings didn’t need explanations.
That’s just the way life goes… right?

“So, out of all four today, who’s caught your eye the most?” Kiri’s voice carried a teasing lilt as she lounged in Lo’ak’s tent, her tail swishing idly across the floor flaps. Her curiosity radiated in every movement, her grin sharp and knowing. “Come on, brother! You’ve been looking forward to this age for this exact reason.”
Lo’ak lowered himself onto the floor table, the one you had built for him not long ago. His eyes immediately found you in the corner of the tent, quietly inspecting your bow. You looked preoccupied, your fingers tracing over the carvings he’d etched into the wood a few moons ago. Passing Iknimaya had been all you could talk about lately, and Lo’ak—desperate to stay connected—had tried to keep up with you, chasing your conversations even as they veered further into adulthood.
He let out a slow breath, pinching the bridge of his nose as he muttered, “I know, I know. I just… don’t know. It seems hard. There’s so many.”
But the truth was far messier. While you seemed optimistic about growing up, Lo’ak dreaded it. Growing up felt like the end of everything he loved—playfulness, freedom, and most importantly, you. He feared that your bold streak, the one that had always set you apart, would eventually take you somewhere—or to someone—that didn’t include him.
He wouldn’t admit it aloud, but the thought of losing you to adulthood terrified him.
The thought twisted in his chest. Would he just become a memory, a childish friend you once cared for but ultimately outgrew? Lo’ak couldn’t shake the fear that one day, when his mother inevitably started dropping hints about you and him being tied together for life, you’d recoil. You’d laugh off the idea, push him away, and that would be the end.
That every shared laugh, every accidental graze of your skin, every lingering glance meant nothing to you while they consumed him whole.
But he wasn’t ready to lose you. Not yet.
And yet, here you were, completely unbothered by Kiri’s teasing. When the conversation turned to the topic of other girls courting him, you remained so painfully supportive, offering polite smiles and offhand comments. Lo’ak knew he was selfish for it, but part of him wanted your chest to pang at the thought of him being with someone else. The way his chest burned whenever he imagined you with another Na’vi.
“So, what about you, [Y/n]?” Kiri asked, her tone light and mischievous as her sharp eyes flicked between the two of you. “Have you given Te’ylu or Ek’ran an answer yet? Or is there someone else you’ve got your eye on? I mean, with you being one of the most sought-after girls around, I’m sure there’s no shortage of people trying to catch your attention.”
You shook your head, your response clipped and quick. “No.”
Fuck.
Lo’ak’s stomach dropped. Was your nonchalance genuine, or was it a front, masking feelings you didn’t want to admit? He dared to hope for the latter, but hope was dangerous.
Because he knew, deep down, that it wasn’t fair to wish for anything other than your happiness. If you chose someone who was nothing like him, someone who made you truly happy, he would accept it. He would let you go with silent resignation, even if it tore him apart.
But a cruel thought lingered: maybe if you had known him less, for the the version of him that he could exist as in your fantasies, you would’ve love him more than for who he actually was. The flawed reality of him that you knew too well at heart. Because maybe, just maybe, you knew him too much to find him attractive.
And maybe then, instead of it being strangers he’d get teased about being with, it would be you.

The sunlight danced through the canopy above, a shifting mosaic of gold and green that dappled the jungle floor. Everything smelled fresh, like rain-soaked earth and blooming flowers. The world felt bigger back then, didn’t it? The air heavier with mystery, the trees taller, their shadows deeper. It was one of those days where the wind carried the laughter of children like a melody—but beneath it all, there was something sharper. Something you didn’t notice until later.
You were following the sound of your father’s totem, the little wooden carving tied to a leather string that never left your neck. Only it wasn’t on your neck now. It was ahead of you, swaying in Sänika’s hand. The jungle was alive with noise—birds chirping, leaves rustling—but all you could hear was your heart pounding and Sänika’s teasing voice calling over her shoulder.
Her auburn hair bounced as she skipped ahead, the curls catching the sunlight like copper wire. You hated how she always looked untouchable, even when she was being cruel. There was a faint scar running down her left cheek, just a thin, silvery line that deepened when she smirked—and she was smirking now, her yellow eyes gleaming as she turned to face you near the edge of the cliff.
“You’re such a crybaby,” she said, holding it higher, as if daring you to lunge. “You care this much about a stupid trinket? You’re always carrying it around like a baby with a blanket.”
“It’s not stupid!” you shot back, your voice cracking halfway through. “Give it back, Sänika!”
She wiggled her fingers, making the totem sway above the drop, her yellow eyes sparkling with something cruel. “If it’s so important, why don’t you come and get it?”
You froze, panic tightening your chest. The cliff’s edge crumbled with every gust of wind. The totem wasn’t just important—it was everything. It was the last thing your father had given you before…before you lost him. You couldn’t lose it too.
The wind picked up, tugging at your hair, and as you stepped closer, a part of the cliff crumbled beneath your foot. Pebbles tumbled into the ravine, disappearing into the void below. Your stomach flipped, and you stumbled back, your breath catching in your throat.
That’s when Lo’ak appeared, crashing through the underbrush like he’d been chasing after you for hours. He was smaller then, his braids messier, his face still round with childhood. His knees were scraped, his braids tangled, and he looked like he’d just wrestled the entire jungle. He skidded to a stop, eyes darting between you and Sänika, quickly sizing up the situation.
“What’s going on?” he asked, though his face was already hardening. He froze when he saw you and Sänika by the cliff, his wide eyes narrowing as he took in the scene.
“Sänika she…,” you blurted, clutching your arms tight against your chest as you held back tears which threatened to fall. “She has my totem!”
Lo’ak frowned, his ears twitching. “What are you doing, Sänika? You’re being so stupid again.”
Sänika tossed her head, her auburn hair bouncing with the motion. “I’m not stupid, Lo’ak. I’m teaching her a lesson. She thinks she’s so special, always clutching that dumb little thing like it’s magic or something.”
“It’s not magic!” you snapped, your nails digging into your palms. “It was my dad’s! Just—just stop messing around!”
Lo’ak stepped forward, his tail swishing sharply behind him. “Sänika, give it back! You—!” His voice had dropped into that serious tone he used whenever you both got too close to trouble
You froze, unable to move, a tight knot of fear settling in your stomach. Sänika only tilted her head, eyes gleaming with mischief as she feigned consideration. “Hmm, you’re right,” she said slowly, drawing it out. “I don’t want to drop it.” Her smile widened, the kind that made your heart race. “I want her to come get it.”
It wasn’t a dare—it was a challenge. She held the totem just beyond the edge of the cliff, her knuckles white against the carved wood.
“Are you insane?! You’re crazy!” he hissed, his voice thick with anger and fear. Lo’ak warned you, his voice sharper now, “Don’t!”
But you couldn’t wait. You lunged forward before your fear could hold you back, your hand shooting out toward hers. The ground beneath your feet shifted, loose dirt crumbling into the ravine below, and for a terrifying moment, you felt yourself tipping forward. A strong arm caught you around the waist, yanking you back just as your balance gave out. Lo’ak’s grip was firm and unyielding as he pulled you away from the edge.
Lo’ak lurched forward, grabbing her wrist and yanking it back before she could drop the totem. She shrieked, trying to twist away, but Lo’ak was too quick. He snatched the totem from her hand and shoved her backward—away from the cliff, not too hard, but enough to make her stumble.
Sänika’s laughter rang out, cruel and high-pitched. “Aw, she almost made it!”
You collapsed to your knees, trembling as Lo’ak crouched beside you. “You okay?”
“See? No harm done,” Sänika said breezily, brushing dirt from her hands. “You’re welcome for the excitement.”
Lo’ak shot her a glare so sharp it could’ve cut through the undergrowth. “Shut up, Sänika! Don’t mess with her ever again. Go home!” he shot back, before turning to you and pressing the totem into your hands. “Here. Don’t let her take it from you again.”
You nodded, your breath still shaky. You clutched the totem tightly, your breath catching in relief. “Thank you, Lo’ak.” You muttered, looking down at it instead of him.
Lo’ak grinned, his sharp teeth flashing. “You’re welcome,” he said, his tail flicking with unspent energy. He nudged a pebble with his foot, sending it skittering over the edge of the trail. “But, next time? Maybe don’t let her play you like that so easy. You should definitely keep that in a bag or sumn’.”
The boy’s hand brushed your shoulder as he stood, his voice turning impatient. He extended a hand, pulling you up with a rare show of careful strength, his grip firm and steady. “Come on! Let’s get out of here before I really lose it.”
You took his hand, both soon walking side by side into the heart of the vibrant forest ahead. Lo’ak kicked a stone, sending it skittering through the soft, damp soil with a faint, melodic sound, and you sidestepped a low branch that swung too close. Every so often, he nudged you with his elbow, a mischievous grin tugging at his lips. You shoved him back lightly, pretending to glare, but your smile gave you away. Lo’ak glanced at you, his hand brushing yours for a split second, almost absentmindedly. Without warning, you gave him a playful shove, nudging him off the path. He stumbled but caught himself, shooting you a mock-scowl, though the comfort of familiarity had already replaced the tension, like it always did. “You owe me for that. Big time.”
“For what?” you shot back, the adrenaline making you bold. “For almost letting me fall?”
“For almost making me fall.” He grinned then, that familiar troublemaker grin. “And for not letting you punch her first. Trust me, I saved you a lot of trouble. You could at least say ‘thank you, Lo’ak, you’re so brave!’”
You shoved him back, again, rolling your eyes, but your lips twitched into a grin. “Fine. Thank you, Lo’ak. You’re so annoying.”
The boy laughed then, loud and carefree. Lo’ak, always a little quicker, started to moved ahead, but you easily caught up, each of you slipping past the other in a rhythm that felt as natural as breathing. And for a moment, the fear of the cliff and the totem’s danger faded into the background, replaced by the warmth of his laugh.
Tumblr media
Each step felt like you were walking deeper into a dream, the quiet murmurs of the forest and the gentle rustling of the leaves filling the space between you two. The ground beneath your feet seemed alive with the roots of massive trees curling up from the earth, their gnarled forms glowing faintly in the tree-filtered, low light. Every now and then, a soft hum of bioluminescent insects flitted past the glowing moss of the trees, their tiny lights like glowing fireflies darting through the air.
“To say the least, I’m not as obedient or responsible as my brother. What do they even see in me, other than what I’ve overheard—a second choice to him?”
His words hung in the air, heavier than they should have been. You bit your lip and frowned, a sharp flare of anger rising in your chest as the question twisted something deep inside you. Second choice? That was laughable. You wanted to tell him that that was ridiculous, that the only reason anyone even compared him to Neteyam was because they were blind to everything that made Lo’ak Lo’ak. He was amazing as he was. But the words didn’t come. They never did, not when it came to this. Defending him outright? That wasn’t your style. Compliments between the two of you always felt like crossing some invisible line, one neither of you had ever dared to define.
Instead, you trudged ahead, crunching softly over leaves and branches as the glowing forest swallowed the two of you whole. The world felt quieter now, muted by the creeping eclipse. You glanced back at him, watching his expression as he trudged behind you. He looked…tired. Not just from the day’s hunt but from something else, something that weighed on him more than you realised.
You were supposed to be honest with him. You always had been. Honest, but sharp. Never tender, never soft. But, this time, you couldn’t risk saying what you actually thought. What if he thought you were being weird? Laughed it off, or worse, didn’t care? You didn’t even know why you felt like this—protective, almost angry. It wasn’t like Lo’ak expected you to care to this extent which you did. You didn’t.
At least, you didn’t think you did.
“Your existence is proof that failure has a sense of humor,” you said, keeping your voice light. “Maybe some girls are just into that.”
You expected him to laugh—or roll his eyes, or shoot back something equally sharp. But instead, his footsteps faltered behind you and when you turned, he had halted to a stop, standing still, expression unreadable.
He wanted to ask if you were one of the girls you had previously described, but he mentally slapped himself before he could say something as nearly stupid and weird as that. But there were still questions he found worth asking, one he particularly settled for.
“Do you… really see me as a failure?”
The question caught you off guard and for a moment, you froze, unsure of how to respond. His voice wasn’t biting or sarcastic. It was quiet, almost hesitant, and that made it worse. It was the most un-Lo’ak thing ever. Like, he sought for your validation? Never in your lifetime would you be able to foresee that. It was confusing and unexpected, but you didn’t have it in you to ask why.
You stared at him, the weight of his question settling between you. He wasn’t meeting your eyes, his gaze fixed somewhere just over your shoulder. It wasn’t like him to look so unsure, so vulnerable. And it wasn’t like you to feel so…paralyzed. You wanted to tell him no, of course not, that he was more than what he thought he was.
“Lo’ak,” you started, your voice softer than you intended. He looked up at you then, just slightly, like he was waiting for something—an answer, a reassurance, anything. For a brief moment, you thought about telling him the truth right there and then, when he had prepared himself to be in perfect earshot. And not just the truth about how you didn’t see him as a failure, but the truth about why. That you admired him, even when he doubted himself. That you chose to be by his side every day, not because of some childhood bond or shared memories, but because it was him. That you cared about him in a way that scared you because it didn’t feel simple anymore.
And with every passing second, the pressure grew, the unspoken words clawing their way up, desperate to escape. You could feel them swelling, a tide rising fast, threatening to spill over. The silence pressed harder, suffocating, as if daring you to break it. But instead of yielding, you retreated behind the familiar walls. You couldn’t let it out. Not now. Maybe not ever. Your honest words caught, stuck somewhere between the aching weight in your chest and the trembling tightness in your throat, tangled in feelings too raw to untangle, too sharp to name. You fell back into the only script you knew, the one you two always performed so well.
“I can’t even give you a proper compliment without it feeling forced,” you said, forcing a grin that didn’t reach your eyes. “But you know I care. I’ve known you forever—probably know more about your failures than you’ll ever admit.”
You mentally winced. The moment the words left your mouth, you regretted them—not because they weren’t true to your usual dynamic, but because they didn’t feel right. Not now. To keeping up the usual pace, this time it felt so wrong and so outdated. But you pushed that thought aside, waiting for the usual retort, the banter you relied on to fill the silence.
For a brief moment, Lo’ak didn’t move. He stood there, his posture taut, muscles in his arms and chest flexing as he stood tall—much more solid than the boy you used to know. The years had done their work. He had grown into his body, shaping into something undeniably striking. His skin, painted with the marks of his people, glistened faintly under the moonlight. And as much as you tried to look away, your gaze lingered on the way his shoulders tensed with every breath, the defined lines of his torso stark in the dim light. Lo’ak pretended not to notice your gaze before you tore your eyes away.
The ache in your chest refused to be ignored as Lo’ak’s face remained unreadable, a mask of frustration that had nothing to do with the banter that used to flow so easily between you. You caught yourself looking at him, straight ahead this time, and just for a second, the thought flickered through your mind that maybe—maybe, just maybe—he’d say something to break the tension. But then, he walked past you, his shoulder bumping into yours, causing you to stumble as he moved toward the clearing ahead.
“You’re right,” he muttered, his voice cold and distant. “If I ever needed comfort, the last person to ask would be you.”
The words shouldn’t have hurt. You’d heard worse from him before, and you’d given worse in return. But, it was different this time. This time, the edge in his voice wasn’t teasing or playful. It was real.
You swallowed hard, trying to ignore the lump in your throat. “Lo’ak, I wasn’t being serious.” you said, forcing out the words even though they felt too hollow to hear.
He kept walking, his steps deliberate and heavy, as if the very act of moving away from you was an act of willpower. His jaw tightened, the muscles working against the storm of emotions threatening to break through. He hated this—hated how much he suddenly cared, how your jokes now stung instead of rolling off him like they used to. Why couldn’t he just laugh it off? Why was it different this time? He didn’t want to hurt you, but it felt like he was suffocating under the weight of wanting something deeper.
And for the first time, it scared him to admit it.
What if, without the banter, there was nothing left? What if this was all there ever was? What if a joke is all you saw of him? He didn’t know if he could bear that, but was just how things had always been between you two: always deflecting, always skimming the surface even when none of it was casual for him with you. Not anymore.
Because Lo’ak had spent his whole life pretending he didn’t care—about what his father thought, about how people compared him to his brother, about the teasing he got from others and especially you. But, this time, there was a growing part of him, a small, desperate part, that wanted you to say you saw him differently. He wanted to feel like he mattered to you in a way that went beyond years of childhood habit. He wanted more than your jokes and your teasing, because he knew you could give him that now that you were older. To see through his front, to the boy who was trying to prove he was more than what everyone joked or even thought he was.
But, you never did, And, least of all, Lo’ak didn’t know why he expected you to. Didn’t know where all of it was suddenly coming from.
It felt final, like a line had been crossed—one neither of you were ready to admit existed. You wanted to call out to him, to say something, anything, as he walked away, but the weight of fear held your voice hostage and legs tied down. You told yourself it probably didn’t matter, that everything will be fine in the morning, as it always had been. But beneath it all, you knew something had shifted and you weren’t sure if you could ever go back.
Neither did he.
Lo’ak didn’t look back. He couldn’t. Because if he did, he might’ve seen the flicker of confusion and regret in your eyes—and he wasn’t sure what he would’ve done with that. The truth was, Lo’ak wasn’t sure what could’ve hurt more: the idea that you might actually have seen him as a failure, or the realisation that your words mattered to him in ways they never had before for the first time. Either way, it felt like he was losing something he couldn’t afford to lose—his pride, his control, or maybe even you.
Tumblr media
If avoiding you were a contest, Lo’ak would take the prize. The playful banter, once effortless, now felt stilted, a relic of a closeness neither of you knew how to reclaim. Slowly, your conversations dwindled—shorter, more polite, less… you two. It wasn’t sudden. It happened in tiny, almost imperceptible steps: a missed laugh here, a sidelong glance avoided there, a quippy comeback that never came. Until one day, you realised how quiet it had become between you.
You told yourself it was just a phase. Maybe Lo’ak needed space after Iknimaya, the details of which he somehow forgot to mention to you. Or maybe you were just imagining things. You clung to that thought, even as the silence between you two grew heavier. But the last thing you wanted was to make the cracks between you visible to anyone else, least of all the Sullys.
They’d ask questions you couldn’t answer, offer advice you didn’t want to hear. You didn’t want to admit to them that you were worried, not when Lo’ak had already made it clear that space was what he needed, no matter how uncomfortable it made things. So, you waited.
But god, you wish you didn’t have to.
Days turned into weeks, then months. The wedge delved between you two and your interactions deepened, and widened, into an unknowing expanse. You caught yourself rehearsing things you wanted to say to him, but never did out of the fear of the ‘what-if’s. Anyway, with each time you saw him, any flicker of hope was quickly extinguished by the stiffness in his acknowledgements towards you, the way he avoided meeting your eyes, or how he said nothing more than two words.
You used to stare into his eyes, studying his face, but now all you saw was his figure from a distance. You held onto the comfort of knowing he was alive, because it was the only comfort you had left since the distance between you had grown.
“Are you sure you two are okay?” Neteyam asked on the hike out, substituting the spot of his younger brother. “Has he been avoiding you, outright?”
Everything that came out of your mouth next was a lie. But, atleast you didn’t try to cover it up through a joke this time. Right? 4 weeks ago you were treading the same path, “No, no. He’s just busy.“
Two years later, after keeping up with all the lies and excuses of never being seen together, one night after the eclipse, everything came crashing down—if they hadn’t had already.
You hadn’t meant to go there, not really. You weren’t really looking for him. Not on purpose, at least. You had just ended up here, feet carrying you toward the cliffside where the air always seemed to clear your mind, where the familiar sound of the wind through the trees had once calmed your thoughts after eclipse dinner.
You walked aimlessly, your fingers toying with the rough, woven bag Lo’ak had made for you years ago. It felt strange to still carry it, but you had never been able to leave it behind. His craftsmanship, though imperfect, always had a certain warmth to it—a reminder of times before the silence, before things changed.
But then, as you approached the spot, a laugh cut through the stillness of your night, catching you off guard and freezing you in your tracks.
It was Lo’ak.
You peered higher and saw Lo’ak sitting there, but he wasn’t alone. His toned arms draped casually around someone else, a female Na’vi who had leaned into him. You could see his face was lit with the kind of ease you hadn’t seen from him in months.
And then your breath caught. For a moment. You couldn’t tell what you felt.
You didn’t know how long you stood there, staring. Long enough to feel the sting of tears prick your eyes. Long enough to realize he wasn’t going to notice you. A knot of feelings twisted in your chest, unnamable but impossible to ignore.
You told yourself it wasn’t about the girl, not really. You didn’t even know her, and maybe that was the point. If she were someone else, someone familiar, maybe you could convince yourself that this was normal. That Lo’ak was just being Lo’ak. But the sight of his hands on her waist burned into you like it was something you weren’t supposed to see.
Why was she here, and what were they doing?
Maybe it was the laugh. That stupid, familiar laugh that used to be with you, or at least it felt that way. Because all that had now dissipated into silence when that laugh, that ease, was once the thing that kept you going. It was what you’d been waiting for these past few months, but now, you couldn’t help but wonder if maybe you’d been waiting for nothing.
Maybe you were wrong to think that the next sunrise would be the one where everything would finally be okay. Maybe you were wrong about everything. Was it always going to be like this now? You and him on opposite sides of something you didn’t know how to name?
But then your gaze stilled on something—a flash of moonlight catching onto something too familiar, way too vivid.
Her hair.
The sight of it gleamed a rich, deep auburn, like firelight tangled in shadow, a colour freshly burned into the back of your mind, that used to send a cold shiver down your spine.
No… It couldn’t be.
For a moment, your mind refused to process it. You blinked, stared, convinced the memory was playing tricks on you.
But no.
And then, it hit you.
There she was. Sänika. Sitting right next to Lo’ak, her arm resting comfortably around his, at your favourite spot, yet the same spot where she threatened to throw your father’s totem over. You hadn’t seen these two together in ages, were they even friends? What was she doing here, with him? His hands around her waist? How had she slinked into his world, weaving her way through the cracks while you were struggling to even get past through to him beyond the surface?
And then suddenly, you were back there: a younger version of yourselves, swearing under your breath as you tried to avoid her, tried not to let her get to you.
“She’s such a pain,” Lo’ak had said once when you were kids, kicking dirt at the ground, his voice bitter. “I swear, I don’t know how she manages to be everywhere we are.
You didn’t know her at this age anymore, but the unmistakable curve of her cheek, once the subject of countless jokes between you and Lo’ak, was now the very spot where you painfully watched him press his lips. The damage from that hit you like a punch to the chest, and a tidal wave of anger—one you refused to admit had been building—flooded your veins. You tried to make sense of the mess swirling inside you—the memories, the countless unanswered and unravelling questions, the sudden sense that things were fully slipping away this time.
Why? Why was she the end of his answer? What had you ever done to deserve this?
Somehow, as your heart sank deeper, it became painfully clear to you—he wasn’t coming back.
You didn’t want him to, not anymore.
And so, it took everything within you to walk away, each step a battle against the ache in your chest. Turning your back on it felt like the only bit of control you had left, the only thing you could still control in a situation that was completely out of your control.

glistening drops of honey [part 3]
tingle your senses with part 2 here:
pairing: neteyam x fem human reader warnings: cringe, daddy jake words: 788 (longest one yet help)
"who was he?"
while i was busy thirsting over my mystery man, his lips suddenly parted, smashing into mine. “drop your weapons and surrender!”, he commanded. “yeah, we’re literally twice your size bruh”, said the shorter one. i squealed and tripped on some vine, falling flat on my face. the taller na’vi wasted no time in grabbing the opportunity and my ass to throw me over his shoulder. “what are you waiting for, lo’ak?!??! gRAB THEM!!! we gotta take them to sir!” ah, so the shorter one had a name. we were too dazed from our midnight journey to fight back - and i couldn't deny that a part of me was enjoying this sudden turn in our illegal thievery venture. soon, the rest of the gang was hoisted over the na'vi shoulders, and we were skedaddling away into the forest like a gang of oompa loompas.
i think the appropriate bodily reaction to a situation like this would be a seizure and an aneurysm, but all i could think of was the feeling of the na’vi’s broad and muscular shoulders against my petite frame. his voice was playing over and over in my head- i felt my heat twitching.
after a long, bouncy, eerily silent journey, we reached a camp brimming with thrust thirst worthy na’vi. a tall, daddy na’vi adorned with beads and jewellery approached us. “neteyam, what’s going on?!”, he asked. “we found them in the jungle carrying guns, with prospective malicious intent, sir”. oh great, he was smart too??!!
“neteyam”, i gasped underneath my breath. his name... neteyam... it slipped so comfortably off my tongue. even his name sent shivers down my broken spine.
daddy creeped towards us, “why are you here?”, he asked with a hoarse voice. it almost sounded like a demand. ooh zaddy- wait, what?? i mentally slapped myself. bitch, calm yo tits.
“we’re not here for trouble, we’re just trying to stay alive”, pleaded trystan. “the earth is doomed. the poor have no way to survive - believe me when i say we had no other choice.” as our heart rates rose, frantically trying to escape, something clicked in my brain. those eyes, his face, his voice- why did it all sound so familiar?
"MAJAKE???!!!" a voice echoed from afar. wait- JAKE?? JAKE SULLY??!!?? not a single person on earth hadn't heard of that name and the tales about it.
"y-you ..... y-" kobra stuttered, in disbelief that we were standing before the very man who had allegedly defeated the first military pandora mission and shapeshifted to a pandorian creature. "yes," he calmly uttered. "i know. not just about the things they say of me, but the state of the earth and the desperation it can cause in starving souls." we exchanged panicked, shocked glances among one another. "but this place saved me- i realised the gravity of the destructive tendencies of my people, and have grown to call this my home. its community, the way they care for their planet was like a calling, rescuing me from the materialism and disrespect of the sky people." he explained, with pain and regret in his eyes.
"but", he added, "it can save you too." he smoldered, looking my seductive anatomy up and down.
we pondered the offer before us - we knew he was right. a life on earth was not worth destroying and robbing a thriving ecosystem- no amount of extraterrestrial resources could undo the damage done to our home. this - this was redemption. i was certain of it. there was a glint in my siren eyes- i had had an epiphany.
as realisation sunk in, i barely noticed arrows driving through the flailing bodies of kobra, trystan and nitro. both the na'vi and I knew they would never accept the ways of peace, no matter how fruitful the outcome may be. they were the last humans i would see for years to come. but there was something about me that seemed to gain their trust. "i see it in your eyes, the way your hips swayed as you entered"- jake recited. "you were born to be here, just like me."
a slender woman hissed from behind jake, teeth baring . i felt a convulsion in my body. he sighed and strode toward me, "your name?"
“y-y/n” i said timidly, fidgeting with my fingers, and playing with my knotted hair. “neteyam, why don’t you go show y/n around?” jake suggested.
my core tightened.
i observed the annoyance evident in neteyam's expression. despite being burly, brawny and robust, neteyam was no match for jake sully's intimidating gaze. he nodded hesitantly as our orbs met.
i bashfully smoldered, a tinge of pink dusting my soft, bouncy cheeks. both sets of cheeks.
thanks for reading :D likes, reblogs and follows are greatly appreciated <3

A TRIP TO MY TENDER HEART
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
"No way!" Lo'ak exclaimed in awe, examining the powerful gun in Y/n's hand with a laugh
"Yea. I know." She said proudly, marveling at the dangerous weapon that was held a little too nonchalantly in her hands
"I've seen a warrior use this, it took down a gunship in a single shot! This will for sure help the war party." She said grinning as she and Lo'ak continued examining the clouds for the sky people's presence
"If Neteyam found out we had one of these..." He said, letting out a breath of nervousness as Y/n shook her head, steering her Ikran further away from the line of sight of the other spotters who flew alongside them in the sky
"That is exactly why we need to stay out of sight Lo'ak! That boy would shoot me in the head with this exact gun if he knew-"
"Y/N!"
The name was hollered from behind her with such an intensity that she winced at the sound. There was no need to even need to turn around to know exactly who it belonged to
"Ay, come on Amay!" She yelled, letting out a victory war cry as her Ikran expertly managed to fly past Neteyam's in an instant
At first he whipped his head around with a scowl to see what she was flying towards. Unfortunately, he was met with the horrifying sight of her grinning figure as she put what easily could've passed as a bomb over her shoulders and aimed the thing at an incoming warship
"Great Mother she's going to get herself killed!" Neteyam screamed as he tried flying after her, Lo'ak quickly moving to block his path with his own Ikran, his eyes wide with a frantic expression on his face
"Let her hit them bro! You know she can, that thing in her hands can knock their ship out the skies!" He said, desperate not to let his brother mess up Y/n's clear shot
"No! She's not following orders - what if she messes up? Lo'ak, it will knock her out of the skies!" He yelled angrily
Lo'ak's face flashed with momentary fear at his words - and that second of distraction on his face was all Neteyam needed to fly past him and towards Y/n
He could hear Lo'ak yelling from behind him, but he ignored him, knowing the severity of the situation Y/n had gotten herself into that she and Lo'ak simply didn't understand
"Y/n! I swear, If you launch that bomb - ! "
But his own voice was cut off with the menacing sound of the gun being fired
He watched it hit the gunship right in the center, truly knocking it out of the skies.
Then, he watched the horrible gun recoil from the pressure accumulated from the shot and hit Y/n square in the chest
It was like he was watching her in slow motion. The way the gun slipped from her hands, the way she tried to find her grip on Amay, her faithful Ikran, as she was pushed back with a force so strong she could've never stopped it from knocking the wind out of her
And then, he watched her fall.
In an instant, he let out a yell as his Ikran, crying out too from Neteyam's overflowing emotions, flew after her in seconds.
But the debris from the war ship was flying everywhere. Black smoke clouded his vision so immensely he could only yell out in frustration and panic as he lost her falling figure
He knew Lo'ak had flown after her the second she fell too, but he could not be sure he didn't lose sight of her as well
He yelled out his name, then hers, and was only met with the war cries of the na'vi
Landing his Ikran, he jumped off in an instant and began searching for them on the ground
Yelling for them both on his ear pierce was no use as he was met with complete silence from their end
Before he could even make another move, an airstrike, one aimed at the na'vi war party this time, hit the ground and exploded so violently that it launched Neteyam straight into the air.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
"Boys! Y/n - " Jake yelled, but stopped as his eyes landed on Lo'ak, who was looking around, his eyes wide in what seemed like shock
"Lo'ak! Lo'ak, are you ok boy? What happened? What the hell are you doing here!" He yelled, taking hold of his shoulders once he examined him and saw no threatening injuries
"Y/n fell from her Ikran. Dad, she was really high up - I - no one caught her!" He cried, feeling his fear seize his chest so violently that Jake could only shake his head as he pushed Lo'ak towards his Ikran
"Go boy, get out of here! Tell me where she fell, quick." Jake said, unable to hide his own terror as Lo'ak pointed in the direction he saw her last
Y/n was known for being a little... reckless. Just like her father, Tsu'tey. The man he'd sworn to that he'd protect his daughter for as long as he lived. And he certainly wasn't about to lose her like this.
"Neteyam too dad. I don't know where he is, but - " Lo'ak started but was quickly cut off by Jake
"Leave Lo'ak! Go, I will find them. GO!" He yelled over his shoulder as he ran swiftly through the numerous bodies and falling debris
His eyes searched desperately for the two, his feet moving fast and his eyes moving faster
Finally, his eyes latched onto the familiar figure of his son, who was struggling to crawl to the body that laid a few meters from him, his hand outstretched towards it
Y/n
She groaned, rolling onto her side
Jake's heart dropped as he finally saw the gash in her stomach, so deep it bled all over and around her
"Oh man." He whispered, quickly moving to check Neteyam as he was the closest one in his path. Surprisingly, he pushed his father off of him
"Fine, Dad I'm fine. Help her." He said, struggling to speak as his eyes remained on Y/n
Jake turned from him to the stubborn girl who was actually trying to stand, waving her hand as if to insist she was all good
"I'm fine too - " She barely managed to say as Jake quickly picked her up, being careful not to aggravate her wounds anymore as he held her tightly to his chest. Somehow, he managed to use his other free arm to throw Neteyam over his shoulder as well. Too weak to protest, Neteyam only groaned as his father held tightly onto both children
"Fine my ass." He mumbled angrily
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
"Now tell me, what the hell were you thinking boy!"
Y/n watched Neteyam flinch at his father's voice. Y/n stood, wobbly but firmly from the ground she'd been resting on in protest
"It was me Jake! He is the last person you should blame - " She started but was quickly cut off by him
" He is the oldest, and you - you are a spotter!  Why were you on the ground right when someone attacked the warship? What if you were near the attack huh? And do you wanna explain how the hell you managed to fall off of your Ikran?" He snapped, eyes alight in a way that could've set fire
Silence. All three teenagers suddenly looked at each other as if they were communicating in a language Jake couldn't understand
Just as Jake was about to say something to them, she tore her gaze away from the boys as she turned to him
"You can give me whatever punishment you want, but promise me you won't say anything to them?" She said, eyes downcast as Neteyam quickly moved forward as if to say something in her defense
Jake only put his hand up as a way to tell him not to speak, and she hated the defeated look on Neteyam's face as he realized he couldn't save Y/n from this punishment. Simply because she wouldn't let him.
"Promise. Right now." She said determined as Jake nodded slowly, his mouth set into a deep frown from the pure fury he felt in the heat of the moment
She paused for a moment as Neytiri approached them and let out a yelp at Y/n's appearance, immediately going to hold the girl
"Oh ma'Y/n, look at you." She said wincing, tilting the girls head back and forth to check for any other injuries. Her hands then moved to gently tighten the blooded bandaged wrapped around Y/n's abdomen.
"Ay, I am fine." She said embarrassed as Neytiri only looked at her strictly before going to asses Neteyam and Lo'ak injuries
Jake turned back to her, head cocked as he awaited her response
"I... may or may have not been the one who attacked the warship?" She said, already shrinking back as Jake and Neytiri both froze, Neteyam and Lo'ak's own figures watching Y/n in disbelief at her rare display of honesty that would manage to keep Neteyam out of trouble
"You did what?"
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
Y/n's punishments had been postponed until her injuries were healed
Obviously, she wasn't allowed to fly her Ikran. She made a show of being disappointed when Jake told her she was to report to the medical tent and assist any warriors in need there
He didn't miss the glint in her eyes as she sat down next to Mo'at with a small smile. He knew she would be happy as long as she was helping the clan
When he'd come to the tent with wounds and blood running all over him after yet another successful raid, he requested that she treated him so that he could talk to her
"Having fun?" He asked, laying on the cot in front of her as she carefully grabbed Mo'at's usual ointments to carefully clean up the blood on his skin and disinfect his wounds
"No, not at all." She said
"Good. You shouldn't be having any fun after that stunt you pulled. " He grumbled as he closed his eyes. After a few seconds, he looked at her through his lashes and caught a glimpse of her lips pulled into a sneaky smile as she believed Jake didn't see right through her
He smiled softly to himself before closing his eyes, letting himself relax for just a few moments as she worked quietly on his wounds. The distant sounds of the warriors and the healers conversing in the medical tent and Y/n's gentle hands lulling him to sleep.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
Y/n had been avoiding Neteyam for a while now.
She would look away quickly when he tried to catch her eye in a crowd and make up excuses to leave whenever he got within a ten feet radius of her, expertly managing to hide herself in the cleverest spots she could find in the moment and watch him look around with furrowed brows, confused as to where she so quickly disappeared.
She'd laugh behind her hand before skipping away.
But this time, he'd manage to surprise her instead.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
She was walking quietly, her steps moving slowly as she tip toed around the peacefully sleeping na'vi
It was dark, and Pandora's moon shined darkly from above
When she passed Lo'ak, she tickled him lightly and watched him actually laugh lightly in his sleep, making her let out a quiet snort as she continued her walk
What she didn't know was that there was a na'vi who had been awake long before her, his gaze watching her carefully as he copied her cunning maneuvers and followed her footsteps
She let out a small sound of victory as she made it through the maze of sleeping bodies and began to run towards her destination, Neteyam only feet behind as he silently lept after her
Finally, when her footsteps slowed, she let out a satisfied sound while lowering herself onto the patch of grass and rocks beneath her. She stretched her arms and legs as she curled in on herself, arms wrapping around her body for warmth as the wind blew soundly
Neteyam could see the moonlight shining on her figure, and for once, he could see her face clearly.
He was so used to seeing her face pulled into a scowl or having her fangs bared at him - he didn't even realize how much he'd miss to see her face at peace. Or how her shoulders lost their tension and relaxed, how she spread her legs comfortably in front of her.
The Sky People's appearance had made her more on guard then ever, and he understood why.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
The day Y/n and Neteyam got into their first fight had been something that would haunt Neteyam for as long as he'd live
He remembered they'd been merely eight cycles old, fighting over something stupid - a small and insignificant little wooden toy she'd accidentally broken
He was upset - his mother had carved it for him and he'd been waiting to play with it all day before she'd taken it without permission and proceeded to break it
It was an accident of course, but his anger took hold of him in a way like never before, and words that sounded nothing like him at all left his lips with hatred
"Go annoy your own family instead of me Y/n!"
He remembered the way her eyes shook with tears of confusion, as she tried prying the broken toy out of his hands to fix it
"I- the clan is my family! - let me fix the toy Neteyam I am sorry!" She cried, tears running down her face from embarrassment and confusion as he felt his anger snap again
"No! Go away!"
He was a child, and he was upset. He remembered the way he felt his heart break at the sight of his mother's broken toy in her small hands
But it was nothing compared to the look on her face when he'd yelled at her. The way she flinched as her ears fell flat, how she looked down at her feet as she finally began to understand what Neteyam had said before
Go annoy your own family instead of me.
Jake had come running in, asking what was wrong when he saw both children with puffy cheeks and tears running down them
Y/n took one look at Neteyam, eyes welled with tears, before ducking under Jake's long legs and running straight into the forest
Neteyam remembers after when he'd kissed her hands, holding them tightly as he apologized profusely. His father watching with concerned eyes as Y/n said she was fine, pushing him off and saying she wanted to be alone
He had whipped around to his father, desperate eyes as he pleaded to help him fix their friendship.
Jake let out a breath as he shook his head
"What you said was not ok, Neteyam. Give her time, alright?"
That night, he'd been tossing and turning in his hammock for almost an hour before getting up to speak to his parents about Y/n once again. His shame was rooted so far in his chest he felt it suffocating him and his ability to sleep
After seeing his parents hammock's completely empty, he heard their voices conversing quietly, away from where the children were sleeping
Y/n laid in front of them. Neytiri was cradling the girls head while she wept quietly, Jake's hands  holding her tenderly as he spoke to her quietly
It would take years for Neteyam to understand that they were explaining to Y/n what had really  happened to her family.
‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾
A mistake was what he made, his eyes too fixed on her resting figure to see the small branch in his path as his foot stepped on it, the sound a deafening snap in the silence
Her knife was out in a instant, the sharp blue thing pointed right at him as she aimed it at the sound
Her eyes were drowsy, he could see the way she had to blink a couple of times before she recognized him.
She rolled her eyes before laying back dow, her back visibly more tense then before as she kept her back towards him
"Creep. Don't sneak up on me like that Neteyam." She said as he sat beside her, fingers running over the object in his hand
"You woke me up with all that stomping." He said, a small grin on his face as she looked back at him, unamused.
"Did you want something?" She sighed as she tried to get comfortable again, shifting as he laid his head down next to hers
"Yes, I..." He started, but found himself struggling to find the right words
"Yes- I-" She mocked him, letting out a quiet laugh as he huffed, trying to make sure she didn't hear even a hint of embarrassment in his voice
"I needed to give you something. It is very, very important. Very." He emphasized as he sat up, Y/n sat up too as she looked at him confused now
"If it is anything besides food-"
"Y/n." He said again as she turned her body to face him, crossing her legs as she leaned towards him and stuck her tongue out
"Stop that" He said laughing, gently pushing her shoulders back as she clapped her hands together excitedly
"Well I wanna see now!" She said excitedly as Neteyam shook his head
"Close your eyes." He said softly. She complied in seconds, her hands covering her face as she begun to rock back and forth patiently
He placed the wooden piece in front of her before gently removing her hands from her face
The first place her eyes darted was to his face, but then, they moved down
She blinked a few times, her eyes taking in what exactly was in front of her
Neteyam watched her, carefully taking her hands in his once again as he looked at her with a passion that had been ignited ever since he'd first laid his eyes on her
"I - well, firstly, I wanted to thank you for taking the blame for me. For protecting me, even when I could not protect you." He said, Y/n's eyes moved to his as she heard his voice break at the mention of her injuries, at the fact he wasn't able to reach her in time
"And...I want to thank you for, well, being you." He said, looking into her eyes with an intensity she had grown to familiarize herself with when it came to him
"You are selfless and brave and truly a gift Y/n. I... am sorry that I am the worst friend ever - I am sorry I have so many flaws that I cannot conceal around you, but I hope you know that you are the only one in this world I hold so close to my heart. The only one who knows me like nobody else" He whispered, moving her hand over his heart as it beat lively under her palm
They sat there like that for a few moments, staring into each others eyes before Y/n moved to pick up the small thing that laid between them
It was her.
She was on her Ikran, Amay's wings spread beautifully as Y/n sat atop her with the biggest smile possible on her face
"It was a project I started years ago, I begged mother to teach me how to carve wood for this exact purpose. But, I stopped because I couldn't get you to look at me with a smile. You've been avoiding me these past few days, but I've known exactly where you were every moment. I caught moments you believed I wasn't there, where you were smiling freely and laughing, and Y/n - it was the most beautiful thing I have ever been able to see." He breathed out
Y/n was sure her heart was going to burst through her chest and land right into his hands.
"I was finally able to catch that picture of you smiling, engrave it into my mind so it'll never leave. And that's how I made this." He said holding up the carved piece with pride
"Do you like it? Or are Amay's wings too small- " He began jokingly but also nervously as she watched him silently, before she cut him off by tackling him with so much force he let out a yelp of surprise
"Like it? Do I like it?" She asked, laughing as she pinned him to the ground. She hovered over him with the exact same smile he'd spent hours carving. He let her hold complete control over him as he blinked a couple times before a smile broke onto his face at the sight
"Well, it is pretty good, right?" He asked, nudging her with a silly grin that had her break out into laughter
She hugged him tightly, and Neteyam was surprised at her rare show of affection
It was a feeling he'd only dreamt about, a thing he'd been chasing.
Smiling softly, he wrapped his arms around her and nuzzled his face into her hair, breathing in her familiar scent as her hands moved to hold his
They spent the next day making faces at each other when no one was looking, gently poking each other when close enough, and looking at each other whenever Lo'ak did something stupid they wanted to laugh it
It wouldn't take long for everyone else to figure out the love blooming right in front of their eyes - a love that was growing beautifully.

a/n: Requested? No. THIS IS THE CUTEST THING I’VE EVER WRITTEN. also testing out different spacing with my works so lmk if you guys like this spacing better!
Tumblr media
“Absolutely not.”
“Hard pass.”
You both spoke in unison, immediately denying the ridiculous suggestion that came from the mouths of your mothers before you could even think about it. There was no way on Pandora you were going to spend more than five minutes, let alone three whole days alone with this man in the woods.
You refused, you wouldn’t stand for this. Your mother sighed, the shortness of her breath indicating that the decision wasn’t up for debate. “You should be open to the idea, [Y/n]. Lo’ak is a fine warrior and a skilled hunter. I think he could teach you a lot. So the two of you need to set aside your differences and work it out, just for a few days.” She said, Neytiri’s voice chiming in behind her in agreement.
You were never very interested in hunting. You harbored the skill, of course, but you much preferred weaving or crafting over shooting unsuspecting animals with poisonous arrows.
Lo’ak huffed out a humorless laugh, gesturing over to you with his hand while he addressed his mother. “Why me, Ma? Why can’t one of the others help her? Even Tuk knows how to shoot an arrow!”
“Enough, Lo’ak. It is decided.” Neytiri said, and the look in her eyes confirmed that she was not budging.
He kissed his teeth, dragging a hand down his face and covering his mouth before he could say something that would get him in trouble. As if that was the only way he could control his tongue. You glanced over at him, furrowing your brows while he only stared straight ahead at the wall of the hut— now completely detached from the conversation with a locked jaw.
You looked to your mom as a silent plea, only to receive a pointing stare back that caused you to quietly hiss in distaste. You were the first to exit the elders’ tent upon dismissal, the lanky Sully boy unwillingly trailing behind you.
Once you were far enough to make sure you were out of earshot, you turned around to face him. Trying to lighten the mood. “I guess three days isn’t so bad, right? At least we already know each other. It’s not like I’m a stranger or anything.”
“If I had a choice between three days with you, or getting yelled at by my mom, I think we both know I would’ve chosen the latter.” He grumbled, pushing past you and bumping into your shoulder in the process.
You caught your footing before you could stumble back, spinning on your heels to face him again. “Jeez, Lo’ak! Do you have to be such an asshole all the time?”
He ignored you, like usual, and continued along the path to wherever he was headed. You felt your eye twitch with a vengeance, pursing your lips and taking a sharp breath inwards to quiet the urge you had to send the wood of your bow flying into the back of his head.
It hadn’t always been like this between you two, and honestly you couldn’t understand where it all went wrong. You and Lo’ak grew up as pretty good friends, considering your mothers were the best of them. They expected you and Lo’ak to grow up and be each other’s mates. Often pairing the both of you together to complete simple tasks around the village that could easily use one person, which only helped in solidifying the strength of your bond. And honestly, you were never opposed to the idea of it, and even found yourself starting to like him.
You often explored the forest together, even when you were young. Allowing him to show you all his secret spots and hiding places he ran to when the heat at home was too much for him to handle. In actuality, you were his escape.
“Come on, [Y/n]! Try to keep up!” A young Lo’ak yelled from a branch above, laughing and dodging your attempt to grab at his tail.
“Wait for me, Lo’ak! You’re too fast!” You groaned, jumping up to grab a branch with your hands and pulling yourself up the rest of the way. You watched him hop onto a cliff and you followed, hands resting on your knees while you tried to catch your breath.
“Catch me if you can, slowpoke!” The young sully teased, darting through the vast foliage and hopping over fallen trunks.
You weren’t one to back down from a challenge, especially not from Lo’ak. Whenever the two of you would play games with each other and he’d win, he would hold it against you for weeks and rub it in your face. You lifted your head, seeing his tail be the last of him to disappear into the trees “You’re on, Sully!” You took one last deep breath, pushing off your feet and starting to run in the same direction he had.
You memorized his movements so you could go faster, ducking where he had and shoving giant leaves from your view. However, you miscalculated a step, the front of your foot hooking under a mossy log and sending you tumbling forward into the dirt below you.
Hearing your footsteps closing in, Lo’ak picked up speed so you wouldn’t be able to catch him. But as he readied himself to climb another tree, he heard a thud. He paused, turning around to look behind him and brows pinching when he didn’t seen you. “[Y/n]?” He called out, eyes widening when he heard a series of whines sound out in response instead of your usual cheery voice. “Oh shoot,” He mumbled, sprinting back to where he had last left you.
“Ow ow ow!” You cried profusely, pushing yourself off the ground so you could sit up. You winced and pulled your bruised knee to your chest, lip trembling at the sight of blood appearing from a small gash in your skin.
“Oh no,” Lo’ak’s eyes widened at the sight of you covered in dirt, dropping down next to you with a worried look on his face. “Are you okay? What happened?” His voice was soft, both of his hands cautiously holding your leg while he studied how deep the wound was.
“I tripped over a log and fell…” You whined, using the back of your hand to wipe your tears.
He instantly looked up when he heard you sniffle. “No no no, please don’t cry…” His face was tense as he appeared to be in deep thought. He exhaled in preparation, leaning forward and placing a chaste kiss to the side of your knee, away from your broken skin. “There,” He backed up, cheeks flushing to match yours. “That’s what my mommy does when I get hurt, and it usually helps me feel better… Did it work?”
A small smile spread on your lips and your tears dried up, face rosy when you nodded your head. “Y-yeah. I guess it does feel a little better. Thanks, Lo’ak.”
He flashed a toothy grin, excited that you were feeling better and rising to his feet. A small, four-fingered hand extended out to help you up, and you slid your tiny palm into his. Brushing the dirt off your legs with the other. “We don’t have to play anymore if you don’t wanna-” He said, the rest of his sentence cut off when you shoved past him, into his shoulder and darted along the path.
“Catch me if you can, penis face!” You giggled, squealing when he yelled your name and began to chase after you.
Life as best friends with Lo’ak was never boring. In fact he was the one who introduced you to having fun in the first place. You knew him to be snarky, painfully sarcastic. But never cold.
There was a sweet side to him that he would let you take a glance at here and there, behind all the name calling. Could he be aggravating at times, and maybe a little mean with the teasing? Yes, but never cold. So when he suddenly stopped treating you like a friend one day and instead no more than a stranger— saying you were confused would be putting it lightly. All you could chalk it down to was puberty. Maybe the new influx of hormones had made him… less social?
You were hurt, you couldn’t deny it. There was something different about him, something he wasn’t letting you in on, like a switch you didn’t know existed had flipped in his mind. Coincidentally as soon as you hit the age where men began to court you, he fell off the face of the planet entirely.
Losing him pained you deeply, he had always been there to help you with any issues you had. Eager to give you advice on any situation you needed another perspective on, or just cheer you up with his rambunctious attitude. There were so many times you wanted to stop and ask him what happened, if you had done something wrong. But you knew he’d look straight through you like he always did nowadays.
The walk home was silent. You were definitely not looking forward to this three day trip you had no choice but to partake in. You wouldn’t have minded if your mom chose one of the other warriors, because being around Lo’ak only became increasingly more awkward as time went on.
For someone who previously had so much to talk to you about in the past, he was awfully closed off in your presence. You shook yourself out of your daydreaming and began searching through your tent. Packing just a few things. Some extra clothes, a quiver of arrows, and spare string for your bow just in case. You grabbed the strap and slung it over your shoulder, next lifting a woven pouch over your head and crossing it over your body.
Pushing past the flaps that served as an entrance to your home. You felt the daytime breeze hit your face and a wave of peace washed over you. Until you turned your head to the side to see a particular male leaned against the outside wall of your hut, arms crossed over his chest.
“Took you long enough.”
“Oh my-” You jumped, startled by his voice and bringing a hand up to clutch your chest to make sure your heart hadn’t jumped through your ribcage. “Jesus, Lo’ak! Were you trying to give me a heart attack?”
“Nah,” He snorted at your reaction, pushing himself off and walking ahead without you. “I think you’re just a wuss.” You swore you heard the smirk oozing out of his tone. Rolling your eyes and starting off after him, having to do a slight jog to catch up as his strides were much longer than yours due to the length of his legs.
One condition to the three day trip included not being able to use your Ikrans. Your mothers insisted you hiked on foot, saying it would be a good refresher of the land. You walked next to him in silence, keeping your stare straight ahead and grumbling to yourself when the strap of your quiver began to slip off your shoulder for the third time.
He turned to look at you curiously, eyes falling to the case of arrows you were carrying. “Gimme that,” Before you could answer his hand was over your shoulders, grasping the strap in his hands and pulling it off your arm. He tilted his head to the side to swish his braids out of the way, throwing your arrows over his shoulder that was already carrying his own.
You stared at him with a confused expression, having to remind yourself to keep your feet moving. “I was perfectly fine carrying that on my own, you know.”
“Was just being nice.” He sighed, not even bothering to meet your gaze while he spoke.
“Yeah, that’s rich coming from you.” You muttered under your breath with folded arms, not missing the way his ear twitched, jaw tensing at your words. You thought you said it quiet enough, but by the look on his face, he definitely heard you. You figured you’d keep the banter to a minimum for the rest of the way to your campsite.
Tumblr media
After about thirty minutes you arrived at a secluded part of the forest where not many animals came through. Fauna dressed with various shades of greens and browns that encased the area, the forest floor mossy and soft against the soles of your feet.
You took a deep breath and looked around, inhaling the air that seemed much fresher around you from all the vegetation. Lo’ak had already gotten busy setting up, crouching down to set your equipment against the base of a tree trunk. You plopped down into a sitting position and sighed in relief. He walked so fast that you damn near had to sprint the entire way here.
Two bows in hand, he silently walked past where you were sitting and started on his way back into the trees. Invested in the colorful wildflowers surrounding your feet, you hadn’t noticed he was no longer in front of you until you looked up to see your bows gone, as well as him. “Lo’ak?” You whipped your head around with a hint of fear in your voice, trying to figure out which direction he had went.
“Come on, hurry up!” He yelled out, your ears perking up once you realized he hadn’t travelled far. You sighed and forced yourself to stand, quickly skipping through the forest to catch up with him.
His behavior was so odd, it was only making you more agitated by the second. You angrily stared at his back, having to look away shortly after once your mind unexpectedly jumped from how annoying he was to how his muscles flexed when he walked.
It really had been long since the two of you were alone, because you hadn’t remembered his shoulders being this broad, or his legs this toned. Training with Neteyam and his father was clearly paying off.
You pointed your chin up when he turned around to hand you your bow, rolling your lips into themselves and trying not to blush at the fact that he almost caught you staring.
“Here,” He pushed it in your direction, not letting go until your hand wrapped around the curve of the wood and took it from his grasp.
You followed closely behind him, looking up to see lemurs swinging from branch to branch while the wild life croaked and screeched around you. He suddenly slowed in pace, causing you to almost stumble into his back while his knees bent slightly, taking long strides while keeping his eyes pinned on the ground below him. His head low.
You peered around curiously, trying to get a look at his face. “What are you doing?”
“Shh, tracking.” He muttered.
You paused. “Why?”
“You want to eat, don’t you?” He responded, irritated.
“I was just asking a question, no need to get your panties in a bunch.” Grumbling, you ducked your head under a low-hanging branch after he did.
“I don’t wear panties.” He huffed, swiftly equipping an arrow to the string of his bow and preparing to pull it back. He must have spotted something you hadn’t.
“Could’ve fooled me, cause for the last four months you’ve kinda been acting like a bitch-“ Your eyes darted in the direction where leaves rustled, sighing when you saw the small hexapede he was planning on piercing with an arrow skit past the two of you. Disappearing into the trees due of the volume of your voice.
“God, ugh!” He dropped his bow to his side, head snapping around to look at you with the most agitated expression you’ve ever seen him wear. “Do you ever stop talking? Like, genuinely asking here. If you had just shut up with the questions we wouldn’t have lost our dinner.”
You swallowed the spit pooling in your mouth and bit the inside of your cheek, only looking down at your feet and mumbling a nearly non-existent ‘sorry’. Had you stayed looking up, you wouldn’t have missed the look of regret that flashed across his face. You felt your heart pinch at the venom in his tone and decided against speaking up again.

Eclipse had fallen over the sky about an hour later, the both of you trudging to the campsite with a couple fish skewered onto your arrows. The journey back was excruciatingly silent. You hadn’t dared to make a peep after seeing how much you pissed him off earlier. He attempted to make some side comments during the hike to spark up a conversation, but you were so tuned out from the present situation that his words fell on deaf ears.
You now sat with your back against the bark of a burly tree, keeping yourself busy by continuing to weave a top you had previously been working on back at home. You were glad you thought to bring it with you, not knowing you would need something to occupy you from looking up and catching the pair of eyes that were boring holes into your forehead like lasers.
He sighed as he watched you, guilt burning in the pit of his stomach as if he were in hell. You forgot that he knew you, forgot that he knew you would distract yourself with random tasks just to avoid speaking on something that bothered you. He hadn’t meant to snap like that, and honestly you weren’t even the reason for his irritability. He just took it out on you on accident.
“You hungry?” He held up a freshly roasted fish, beckoning it towards you and assuming you could see him even though your gaze was downcast into your work.
“Nope.” You muttered.
“Why?”
“Big lunch.” Your movements became slightly jagged at his questioning.
“That’s bullshit. You never eat lunch.” He scoffed.
You threw the top you were working on down in front of you and huffed in frustration. Why was he acting like he still knew you as if this entire time it hadn’t been his mission to become strangers again?
“You wanna know what’s bullshit, Lo’ak? Us being friends since childhood, spending almost everyday together and then suddenly you stop talking to me at all. You treat me like a complete stranger and I don’t even understand why.” His eyes left yours and settled on the fish in front of him, as if this was suddenly his first time seeing one. He was quiet for a beat, making you huff out an aggravated breath and throw your hands up at the futile attempt to get him to speak.
“I’m sorry.” He finally mumbled.
You blinked, waiting for him to continue, eyebrows raising in disbelief when he didn’t. “That’s it? You’ve been treating me like I’m the bane of your existence for months now and all you can say is sorry? You missed my Uniltaron when you promised you’d be there for me, and now all you can say is sorry?” You laughed bitterly, standing up before he could form an answer to your rhetorical question. Eyes pinning him in place as you watched his body shift to stand. “Don’t follow me.” You held a hand up to stop him, stalking away before you could blow a fuse. You weren’t planning to go far, you just needed to be away from him for a bit.

Lo’ak sat in that same spot the entire time you were gone, his appetite dissipating while he stared down at his hands in shame. He didn’t know what he expected, but all he knew was he felt bad for hurting your feelings to this point. It was one of the things he hated about himself the most, his irrational decisions that never considered the other party’s feelings.
Honestly, he thought so little of himself that he assumed you wouldn’t be bothered by his absence. But now that he was rehashing the details over in his mind he felt like an idiot. Of course it bothered you, the two of you were attached at the hip and best friends who did almost everything together, until he let the discouraging words of others get into his head.
His previously slumped body sat up as he saw you re-emerge from the trees, guilt rushing over him once more because your avoidant eyes still refused to meet his.
He looked up at the moon, realizing it was getting late and starting to put the fire out. You lowered yourself to the mossy grass, sliding down until the soft blades tickled your back. You discreetly watched Lo’ak do the same, along with putting a few feet of space between the two of you as he could nearly feel the anger radiating off your body.
With the fire now put out, the draft that travelled through the air made small goosebumps prick at your skin. And with shut eyes you curled your body into itself to capture as much heat as you could. Lo’ak laid next to you with his back flat against the grass, hands resting on his middle and gaze glued to the twinkling stars above. He allowed his eyes to come to a close but just a few moments after they did, they snapped back open and looked in your direction at the sound of you shuffling around.
“You’re cold.” He stated. The words coming out as an observation and not a question.
“I am not.” How fast you answered made it easy for him to know you weren’t telling the truth.
“You’re a terrible liar, and I can hear your teeth chattering from over here.” He sighed, propping himself up on an elbow and talking to your back. “You know you catch colds easily, [Y/n]. So c’mere.”
Your eyes opened at his suggestion and your body tensed, but not from the brisk air blowing against your skin. “And what’s that gonna do?” Cringing at how pathetic your voice sounded. You had planned on coming off assertive and uninterested.
“Warm you up?” He looked around as if the answer were obvious, and it was. But for some reason you felt… shy. You and him were once friends, so close to the point where hugging or holding hands had became normal. You’d even sat in his lap a few times. So now that you were sure the two of you no longer favored each other, why would this feel any different?
“Come on, my mom will skin me if I bring you home sick. It’s not a big deal.” He tacked that on for good measure, clearing his throat to push down the weird fuzzy feeling that was traveling up the column of his neck when you slowly sat up. Only half convinced at his reasoning, you reluctantly scooted over towards him, daring not make eye contact.
His lips almost curling up into his usual sideways smile was a sight you tried your best to ignore, witnessing it from the corner of your eye as you moved. Having the intense urge to smack it off his face but gently laying your body down next to his in order to control yourself. He cautiously wrapped an arm around you, pulling you closer and inviting your head to lay on his chest.
You inhaled through your nose, unknowingly holding your breath when his warm hand came in contact with your skin, while he respectfully rested it just below your shoulders. You kept your arms tucked into yourself, legs laid out straight and your cheek pressed against the azure barrier between you and his beating heart.
You instinctively snuggled in closer, silently grateful for the comforting warmth radiating off his body and he could feel it when you relaxed in his hold, just like you used to. You had forgotten what it felt like to be this close to him. Soaking in the lullaby of his soft breaths and you hated how much you missed it.
The ear pressed to his chest picked up on a slight increase in his heart rate, and you threw a remark out just to keep the energy from shifting into weird grounds. “This doesn’t change anything, by the way. I’m still mad at you. I just hate being sick.”
He stared down at your body in close proximity to his, nose nuzzled into your soft hair as discreetly as possible while he mentally kicked himself for being dumb enough to ruin something like this for himself. Giving you the cold shoulder in the past just to quell his own feelings had been one of his stupidest decisions yet. “Yeah, I know.” He swallowed, his hand hesitantly reaching to stroke up and down your arm. “I am sorry though, [Y/n]. Really.” His apology was layered.
You bit your lip, feeling the urge to respond but not having it in you to set aside your pride. There was no way he was getting back in this easily, not after he had you questioning everything you knew due to his closed off behavior. “Just go to sleep, Lo’ak.” You sighed. He agreed by closing his eyes.
Tumblr media
Fleeting sounds of chirping birds and leaves ruffling from the lemurs above your head rustled you from your slumber, eyelids slowly peeling apart to see the world sideways. You rubbed your eyes to clear your vision. You were on your other side now, and Lo’ak wasn’t in front of you.
You went to stretch, your limbs feeling a bit cramped from sleeping on the hard forest floor for hours on end. Regardless of your slightly achy joints and the lack of your hammock netting beneath you, this was surprisingly the best night’s sleep you’d had in a while. Weird.
Extending your legs outwards, you went to do the same for your back when you felt a pair of tightly wrapped arms around your middle halt your efforts. Your body stilled when you realized the hard surface against your upper back belonged to the man you were trying to make yourself despise.
Sometime during the brisk night you turned over onto your other side, and Lo’ak had pulled your slender body back into his and tucked himself into you. He was holding you as if this had been what he wanted to do for years, his light snoring indicating that he felt comfortable enough to sleep so deeply.
And as soon as you came to the revelation, all of your senses began to kick back in at an overwhelming rate. The feeling of his head snuggled into the small of your neck. His soft, parted lips just grazing the surface of your skin. His light breaths leaving temporary traces of heat on your collarbone made your ears flick with a feeling you didn’t want to put a name to. The backside of your body fit into his like a puzzle piece, flush with no room between as if he were scared you’d disappear in the middle of the night.
You felt your heart quicken in pace, cheeks flushing at how you had gone from not speaking, to being cuddled up with one another in just a day. Though the two of you interacted like you couldn’t stand each other, your bodies naturally knew you craved affection only the other could provide and they betrayed the front you tried to put on.
Would the two of you had fallen into each other so intimately, so accepting in the comfort of an embrace during the night, if you truly weren’t supposed to be like this?
You were too stubborn to care, and maybe a bit in denial, too. All you knew was that you needed it to stop because your brain was turning to mush the longer each rise of his chest moved your body in sync.
“Lo’ak!” You smacked the back of his hand and hissed his name, the action pulling him out of his deep sleep.
“Huh?” He grumbled, sharply inhaling with sudden consciousness and opening his eyes.
“Move. Your arms.” You spoke through gritted teeth, eyes flicking down to the limbs that had you caged.
He raised a brow, not understanding what you were talking about until he peered over your shoulder. “Oh shit,“ He instantly retracted his arms, allowing you to scramble away from him while he sat up and nervously watched you readjust your garments. He hadn’t meant to make you uncomfortable in the slightest, he didn’t even realize he was holding you in such a way until you woke him up— and right about now you looked like you wanted nothing to do with him.
Little did he know.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know. I- I didn’t mean to…” He trailed off, not being able to meet your gaze and hoping you’d finish his thought for him, so he wouldn’t have to say it aloud.
You were too flustered to even think about eye contact, shaking your head and interjecting before he could continue speaking. “It’s fine. Let’s just, pretend it didn’t happen.” You mumbled, not missing the way he looked at you as if he wanted to disagree, his mouth opening just to close a second later.
All he did was nod, clearing his throat and rising to his feet while you tried to busy yourself by brushing imaginary dirt off your body.

You tried your best to make the rest of the day as normal as possible, to no avail, of course.
For some strange reason, you couldn’t seem to keep your eyes off him. After a while of him ignoring you, it had became pretty easy to do the same to him. Before this morning, at least.
You cursed your sharp, all seeing eyes. The way they caught every muscle that tensed in his strong legs when he took a step forward, or how his defined shoulders pulled apart to send an arrow plunging through the air.
Every time he turned towards you to speak, you had to force yourself to look away. The fact that you couldn’t seem to control the thoughts invading your mind without your permission was starting to piss you off. And the way his chiseled abs cut directly into a ridiculously evident v-line above the hem of his loincloth, with the rest of it hidden and succeeding in peaking your interest, was not helping you in the slightest.
What was wrong with you? How was it that you felt even more drawn to him now that he was more detached than ever? He seemed to notice your discomfort, eyes narrowing at your focused expression cast upon a boring tree trunk when you didn’t answer to your name.
“Huh?” You snapped your eyes back in his direction when he called your name again, gulping at his oddly knowing expression.
“You seem awfully distracted. Are you alright?” He said.
“Yeah, like you’d care.” You scoffed and rolled your eyes, eager to keep up your tough and uninterested front.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” He folded his toned arms in front of him and you kept your eyes locked on the scowl he wore. It was a double edged sword, either you looked away which would solidify his suspicion that something was in fact going on with you, or you continued to make eye contact with the searing orbs that were making your heartbeat bang against your eardrums. Somehow the second option seemed like the better one.
“It means exactly what you think it means. We stopped being friends a while ago, Lo’ak. That was what you wanted, and you made it very obvious.” You grabbed an arrow from your quiver and pulled it against the string of your bow, extending your arm out and aiming for the makeshift target he had carved into the tree bark with his knife a little ways in front of you.
His brows knit together, features screwing up as if you had just made some outlandish claim. “What do you mean? We never stopped being friends. I still care about you, [Y/n].”
Your heart jumped at the unexpected words that left his mouth, fingers slipping when you released the arrow. It missed the target by a long shot, landing outside and below the circle.
You bit the inside of your cheek, shaking your head and the feeling that was creeping up your throat, out and away. “Well you sure as hell don’t act like it. And I’m pretty sure friends are supposed to speak to each other.” You mumbled, digging your toes into the dirt, the soil moist along your sole while you prepped another arrow.
“I-“ He sighed, mind searching for the right words. “I promise it wasn’t personal. There was just a lot going on, and I got busy.” He moved to stand close behind you, gently raising your elbow upwards with the tips of his fingers. He pressed a hand to your stomach and pushed it against your core, a silent instruction to strengthen your stance.
Oh right. He was supposed to be coaching you on your form. So why did it feel like more than that?
You sucked a breath in through your teeth, squeezing your eyes shut to try and put out the fire his hand ignited. Your core tightened, much to his approval. But not for the reason he assumed. You cleared your throat and stared daggers into the target in front of you, the shakiness of your voice paired with your hands giving away just how flustered he was making you.
“Oh sure. Busy trying to keep me out of your life, right?” You spat, releasing your grasp and hitting millimeters from the bullseye.
You felt the heat of his firm chest against the skin of your back, a small gasp leaving your lips when his lips brushed against the tip of your ear as he leaned down. “Busy trying to keep my mind off you.” He responded, voice so low you could’ve missed it had you not been paying attention.
“What?” You turned around to face him, your faces much closer than you expected and you quickly took a step back.
“I said,” He took one closer. “I was busy trying to keep my mind, off you.”
You rolled your eyes. “Stop playing games with me, Lo’ak. You’ve confused me enough already.” This morning made sure of that.
He reached for your hands, the speed in which you dropped your bow to the ground almost comical and you allowed him to slip his fingers into your palms. “I would never say something like that if I didn’t mean it, [Y/n]. There wasn’t a single moment I wasn’t thinking about you. There never has been, and there never will be. No matter how hard I try, no matter how much space I put between us, I just can’t shake you.” He said, the pads of his thumbs smoothing along the backs of your hands.
You blinked at him in disbelief, eyes widened as you stared at him in shock. You always thought there had been mutual feelings there. The way he acted with you in the past versus the other girls in the village confirmed that. Which was why the sudden rejection of your company and his absence in your life had pained you so much. You not only lost your bestfriend, but the man you hadn’t gotten the chance to love.
“I know, I know. It’s a lot,” He sighed, gnawing at his lip as your apprehension began to mirror onto him. “And I know, I was an asshole-“
“Are an asshole.” You corrected, watching him immediately nod in agreement.
“Alright, I’m an asshole. It was stupid to distance myself from you, and I regret it more than you know, I swear of it. I just didn’t know how to sort through my feelings, and I let everyone get in my head and tell me you’d be better off and… I guess I agreed with them? But I knew there was no way you would listen, so I tried my hardest to make you hate me.” He spoke cautiously, nearly wincing at how bad it sounded now that he was saying it out loud.
Your hand came up before you could control it, palm landing across his cheek and the force of it making his head turn to the side. You glared at him with a tense jaw, the tears pricking your waterline indicating something other than anger.
Lo’ak nodded to himself, licking his bottom lip and grazing his fingers over the sting your hand had left on his cheek. “Yeah, I deserved that.” He breathed out a humorous laugh.
You waited forever to have a moment like this with him, and now that you finally had, it wasn’t anything like what you expected it to be. Confessions bringing up stifled emotions and painful memories you thought you buried ages ago. And now the only thing you could think about was all the time that had been wasted due to miscommunication.
“So let me get this straight, you genuinely thought that destroying the bond we had was better than just letting me love you? Couldn’t you have given me a choice, to decide what I thought was best for me? I loved you, Lo’ak. And you broke my heart.” The rise of your chest stuttered and made your voice crack, the sound of it making his eyes soften with remorse.
“Loved?” He parroted, amber eyes searching yours for any remnants of the feeling he hoped remained.
You snatched your hands away, not even realizing what you had said until he repeated it back to you. “It doesn’t matter anymore.” You muttered.
“The hell it doesn’t! Why didn’t you ever tell me?”
You rubbed your forehead in annoyance, feeling a headache coming on and his response only made it worse. “Do you even listen to your mom when she talks to you? Have you not noticed how they put us together in almost every situation possible?” You gesticulated your hands angrily. “They’ve been asking us why we don’t speak anymore, and this trip was a way to make that happen.”
He cursed himself under his breath, because you were right. He doesn’t listen to his mom when she talks— most of the time he’s tuning her out in case it’s just the usual scolding because he did something stupid.
“You don’t get to ask the questions, Lo’ak. I’ve been sitting here for months, trying to talk to you and all you did was push me away, like I was contagious with a fucking disease. How could you?” Your hands balled into fists. You couldn’t fathom how he had found it in his heart to treat you this way.
And you were— contagious, in a way. No matter how hard he tried to push the feelings down, to rid his body of the fluttering sensation you gave him, being around you would only bring it back even stronger than it was before it left. The truth was, Lo’ak had never been as happy as he was with you and it scared him. Scared him so much that he let others make him believe he wasn’t deserving of it. Wasn’t deserving of you.
“You wouldn’t even look at me, not once! I went to our spot everyday, hoping you would show up and you never did. So I gave up.” You said, voice growing smaller with each word and wavering. He raised his hand to wipe the tears you hadn’t realized rolled down your cheeks, his expression so contrite when you leaned away from his touch that it hurt you to watch.
“Don’t say that, please don’t say that.” He pleaded in a whisper, both hands coming up now to cup your flushed face in his hands. “Please don’t give up on us when I’ve just figured it out. I know it took a while and I know I’m an idiot for it, but please don’t tell me that I’m too late.”
You wanted so badly to say yes. Your heart ached to throw yourself into his arms and forget about the way he had treated you, but you couldn’t. The damage had been done, and you were terrified. Terrified that if you let him in again, the past would repeat itself and you knew you couldn’t handle getting your heart stomped on for a second time.
Your hands found their way to his wrists, hiccuping at the thought of pulling them away. You shook your head, eyes locking on his to give him your final answer. “I’m sorry, Lo’ak. I can’t.”

You decided to end your trip early.
You couldn’t bare to be around Lo’ak anymore. Wanting to be with him just as much as he did you, but the doubts in your mind overwrote your heart any time you so much of thought about giving him a chance.
It was a constant battle and it was taking more of a toll on you than you expected. The feeling of his eyes burning into your back was unbearable, his jaw tensing because you just wouldn’t meet his eyes.
He was in agreement. He had finally been confident enough to challenge what the others swore would happen and came to terms with his feelings, but he was too late. The fact that you were so close that he could reach out and touch you was torturous, the only thing stopping him was the wedge he had plunged between you. He wanted to scream. To go back in time and yell in the face of his past self, to tell him that this was the stupidest decision he would ever make if he went through with it. He’d never forgive himself.
As soon as you were out the forest, you went your separate ways with no words spoken. Leaving Lo’ak alone where he stood, his arm moving to reach out to you but missing your fingers just by a mere inch. He prayed you would turn around, ‘come on, come on, turn around’ aimlessly repeating the words to himself. You didn’t.
He threw his bow to the ground, balling his fists up in frustration and bringing his arms up and over his head. “Fuck!” He growled, kicking at the ground and bringing up a cloud of dirt in the process.

You sat on the floor of your hut across from your mother, poking the steamed meat and vegetables around in your bowl with a lack of interest. Your elbow against the table and your chin propped into the palm of your hand, you couldn’t find it in you to take a bite. You had no appetite and feeding yourself was the last thing on your mind right now.
“Maite?” Your mother’s voice tore you from your endless rumination, and you looked up to see her expression as one of concern.
You hummed a mindless response. "Hm?"
“You’ve barely touched your food at all. You love when I make sturmbeest for you…” Her eyes motioned down to where your finger had been poking and prodding. “Is something wrong?” She asked.
You knew your mom, and she knew you. Chances are when she was asking you a question, there was no point in lying because she already had the answer. She just wanted to see what you’d say first. Nevertheless, you decided to try anyway.
You shook your head, pushing a small chunk of food into your mouth as to not be wasteful. “Just thinking.” You mumbled.
“Mm,” She nodded, her eyes never leaving where they were pinned on you. “Why don’t you go talk to him? Sitting here playing with your food won’t change anything.”
Her question nearly had you choking on your food, coughing a bit and forcing yourself to swallow with flared eyes. “H-huh? How did you…” You gulped, your rapid blinking and now straightened posture confirming her inference.
“Well you haven’t said one word of how the trip went since you got back. Not to mention, you came home early. And you haven’t been very present at dinner time lately, so I can only assume that something happened. Yes?” She quirked a brow at you.
You sighed, nodding and pushing your bowl out in front of you. There was no use in lying, you had to tell your mom the truth. You wanted to. “Yes he… He told me how he feels, finally. But I just don’t know what to do, and I don’t know if I can trust him again. I just don’t think it’s meant to be us, mom.” Shoulders drooping at your own revelation, you wanted nothing more than it to be him.
She tsked and shook her head at you, almost annoyed at your inability to see what was right in front of you. “Eywa does not make mistakes, my child. Since the two of you were little, there were signs. You should give him a chance to redeem himself. I am certain you won’t regret it.”
You trusted your mother more than anything. Her advice had never once led you astray, and you felt something wriggle it’s way through the cracks in your wall of uncertainty. Hope.
“You think so?” You asked quietly, fingers twiddling in anticipation. You felt newfound giddiness crawling up your spine and couldn’t find it in yourself to push it back down.
“I know so. The boy has been in love with you since the day you carved your first bows together.” She laughed and your hand shot up to cover an incoming smile. “Now go, find him and tell him how you feel. Don’t make him wait any longer.” She shooed, hastily waving her hands to bring you out of your lovesick trance.
You were up and out of your hut in seconds, bidding your mother a ‘see you later’ while your legs carried you faster than you could handle. You bundled your way past greeting villagers, responding quickly so you wouldn’t have to pause your trekking. They stared at you curiously, wondering where you were off to in such a hurry, away from your home and into the forest.
The heavy padding of your steps left illuminated patches of moss in your wake. The forest coming alive around you and the beating of your heart increasing with every duck under a leaf and leap over a log, knowing you were nearing your destination.
You eventually made your way uphill and onto a clearing, scenting him before you saw him. Poking your head around a low hanging branch, you felt nervousness pool in the pit of your stomach at the sight of Lo’ak’s slightly hunched form seated on the cliff. You stared at the back of his head, trying to gain the courage to approach him and preparing yourself for the conversation to come.
It wasn’t long before he caught a whiff of your scent as well, his ears unconsciously perking up. He could never mistake the intoxicating aroma of episoth petals and healing rose, a sigh escaping him when he remembered how lovely it had been to be around you those short two days. How being close to you after months apart scratched the itch he could never reach.
You walked over, slowly lowering yourself to sit next to him. Mimicking his position and draping your legs over the cliffside. “I thought you didn’t come here anymore.” Your gentle voice broke the silence, eyes focused on the stars gleaming in the distance.
“I never stopped, I was always here when you were. Even your Uniltaron, I was there. And I wanted to talk to you, to tell you I was sorry for the way I was acting. I just didn’t know how.” He said, voice low as if he were afraid to speak. Scared that he’d make another mistake.
You turned to look at him, taking in his glum state and drooped posture. A frown forming on your lips at his confession. You spent months upset with him, trying to hate him. Thinking he discarded your friendship to the side with malice, only to find out he had suffered just as much as you did. Blaming himself for a mistake he didn’t know how to undo. You cast your gaze down at your hands, taking a breath in before your fingers went to overlap his. His head snapped in your direction, his demeanor suddenly hopeful just at the mere touch.
“Lo’ak,” you started, weakly. “I’m scared.” Your eyes stapled shut, and he quickly grabbed your hand and pulled it close to him.
His features solemn, he silently begged you to open your eyes, holding your hand in both of his. “Why?” He whispered.
You sighed shakily, swallowing around nothing. “If I give myself to you, you can’t-“ Your voice shuddered and Lo’ak lifted your hand up, rubbing his cheek against the back of it as encouragement for you to continue. “Please don’t break me again.”
“Had I known I had your heart, I would’ve never done it. I want nothing more than to be loved by you, [Y/n]. To have the privilege to love you, to call you my own. If you’ll have me.” He voiced, bringing your knuckles to his lips and placing a light kiss upon them, golden irises never leaving the ones that were starting to water in front of him. “I love you too much to put you through that again.”
You had never seen Lo’ak so vulnerable, the look in his eyes one of such sincerity that your own emotions quickly overtook you. Ridding your mind of any reluctancy as you threw yourself into his arms. He exhaled heavily, taking not another moment to wrap his arms around you and bury his face into the space where your neck met your shoulder. Inhaling the scent he missed so much. He sighed in relief, hands splayed across your back to hold you as close to him as possible.
You pulled away, to his surprise as he instantly searched your face for any indication of something wrong. You held his face in your hands, barely able to tear your focus from his parted lips as you spoke. “I love you too, ma Lo’ak.” You whispered, his eyes softening at the term of endearment. You melted into his embrace when he closed the gap between you, pressing your lips together without a regard for air. Breathing him in would just have to be enough.
Your head tilted as you deepened the kiss. He chased your lips and followed suit, not wanting to be apart from you even for a second if he could help it. The kiss was desperate and delicate, hasty and lacking of grace as the both of you quenched the thirst water would not quell.
He broke away from you unwillingly, the need for air trumping his intense desire to continue. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that.” He grinned, voice breathless and fangs peeking out while his warm hands travelled up and down the small of your back. Allowing a swarm of butterflies to take home in your belly.
You giggled and clambered your way into his lap, his immediate acceptance revealed in the way his hands dropped down to hold your hips without a second thought. You draped your arms over his shoulders before you pressed your forehead to his, your fingers grazing along the skin of his back to leave goosebumps in your wake. “Just shut up and kiss me again.” You cooed, watching him lick his lips.
You didn’t have to tell him twice.
He gladly leaned in, but not completely— his top lip just faintly brushing against yours. Languidly lingering there with his mouth slightly agape as he relished in the feeling of your warmth, breathing in your air. “Lo’ak…” Your gaze settled on his half-lidded one for a moment and you almost whimpered at the tease. Your hand finding the back of his neck and pulling him into you, eager to pick up right where you left off.
His lips pressed to yours and they moved gently but fervently. The feeling of your weight in his lap making him hum into your mouth as his arms pressed your body flush against his. The desire that remained from all the months apart bled through his soft touches and washed onto you, hands traveling desperately over his heated, striped skin as if you would run out of time.
This was something you could get used to.
