Hidden bird in a pub
John Price x Reader
Cw: Reader is called “Bonnie” and “Bonnie lass” /hinted at being a woman — NOT PROOFREAD or edited
Idk the word count because I wrote this in one sitting in the notes app
Reblogs and comments appreciated!
You and John had been married for several years now, having dealt with him and his bullshit (as you lovingly put it) for “far too long”.
You two had met when John had been freshly promoted to a lieutenant in the army. Actually, you had met the day he had become a lieutenant while he was out celebrating it at a local pub you worked for as a bartender and a busser on slower days.
You still remember his order, a pint of the most expensive beer you had at the time and the soup of the day- a loaded baked potato soup served with a quarter of a baguette and some bacon and chives.
It had been your recipe for the soup as the pub was family run and a well beloved place in the community. You were connected to some local breweries and bakeries who you would get freshly made bread from for your cheeseburger buns, bread bowls and sugary sweets.
You remember being rather enamored by this man- John, you learn later on in your shift. You thought he was handsome, and he had been hitting on you much of your shift either way. At the end of it, he had earned himself a date with you and from then on, it was history.
Now you and John had been married a decade and you had been there for all of his achievements and all of the military balls. However, once he became a captain and had his own team(with the exception of Simon) he had you carefully hidden away so he could truly separate his work and personal lives.
You and John had built a strong life together, if you so wished- you didn’t even have to work and could just be at home. You stayed at your job, eventually becoming a general manager and helping out wherever. You knew all of the regulars who had been there for many years now and some “newer” faces of regular’s wives and even children with how long you worked at the pub.
The bell rung around five in the evening. You looked up and chirped out a greeting, surprised at seeing your own husband followed by Simon with a black surgical face mask and two others you heard of. Johnny and Kyle, you would guess by the haircut on Johnny(?) and the darker skin on Kyle(?).
You picked up four menus and two drink menus and made your way over once the men seemingly got settled. It was slowly becoming busier, it was a Thursday night afterall.
“John! My favorite regular, Simon, how good to see the two of you. And some newcomers!” You said with a bright smile, handing over the menus to the men. Simon looked at you, his eyes narrowing at you. John smiled and nodded, “Aye. These are my sergeants, Johnny and Kyle.” He introduced, pointing to each of the two younger men.
“Hey there.” Kyle greeted nicely, a simple smile on his face before he returned his gaze to the menu to look over all of the food options. Johnny gave you a toothy grin, “Hey Bonnie.” He grinned in return, “Anything you recommend?” He questioned
You hummed, tapping your signature pen- an army green pen engraved with your husband’s initials in gold- on your chin as you thought. Something you had stolen from him a while ago- a pen he had actually been looking for. John narrowed his eyes a little at the sight of the pen, knowing damn well it was his.
You moved to the side a little and pointed at the menu. “Our soup of the day today is fantastic, it’s a loaded baked potato soup, can be served in a bread bowl or a normal bowl and comes with a quarter of a fresh baguette from a local bakery. It’s one of my favorites.” You say and pull back from the side.
“John, would you like your usual with the soup of the day today then? Simon, usual?” You question to the two men, pulling a little notebook out to write the order.
The two men nod and grunt out their yes’s. You write the order down, “Just let me know when you two are ready to order, I’ll put it all in at once.” You say with a smile as you pull away from the table.
Johnny and Kyle look at each other and then to the two older men. “How long have you two been coming here for that Bonnie lass to recognize you?” Johnny questioned as he leaned in a little. John gave the younger man a look, “Over a decade now.” He answered and Simon shrugged a little. “Seven years.” He grunted out as he pulled his surgical face mask off.
Kyle raised an eyebrow, “Over a decade, Cap? Is it that good of a pub?” He questioned. John hummed gruffly, “You’ll see.” He answered simply. “Kyle, did you see her pen?” Johnny questioned, nudging the man beside him.
“Yeah? What about it.” Kyle questioned as he flipped through the two menus presented. “Look at the damn menu, idiot.” Kyle muttered to Johnny, nudging him back. Johnny clicked his tongue and rolled his eyes as he looked at the menus as he was directed to.
John leaned back in his seat, taking the time to admire you as you helped around, budding food and taking orders and stepping behind the bar occasionally. A few minutes later you came back, pen and notebook in hand. “Everyone decide on what they want?” You question as you approach. “Birdie, you’ve got my order and Simon’s.” John murmured, earning a sweet smile from you before you turned to Johnny and Kyle.
The two men got their orders out before you smiled and dipped away. Kyle gave John a look, “Birdie?” He questioned, his gaze dipping to John’s left hand where his silicone wedding band was, the real ring sitting around a chain on his neck with a pair of his dog tags.
“Yeah? What about it?” John questioned in turn as their drinks were delivered by someone else, you were busy somewhere else and out of sight. Kyle hummed, gazing at the wedding band quietly before looking back to his captain and where you were, now in sight of the men.
John huffed a little, shaking his head, “You’re smart. You can figure it out.” He muttered into his drink, a tall pint. Johnny looked at Simon, who just gave him a look. A look like he thought Johnny was stupid.
“That’s your wife? How come we never met her before?” Johnny burst out, getting a glare from Simon. “Because I don’t want my bird in danger.” John grumbled as you came back over with a tray full of food. You began to set the food down carefully, giving each man their orders.
“Bird. When did you take this from my office?” John questioned, snatching the army green pen you had in-fact stolen from him. “Few months ago.” You answer with a sweet smile. “I’ll give you it back when we’re home.” You muse in return.
John rolled his eyes and gently squeezed your hip, you had to leave after a few minutes of conversing with the table to help the rush. Eventually the rush died down and your shift soon over. Your husband had left a bit ago after squeezing your hip and giving you a quick kiss after paying the bill for the lot of them.
Eventually you headed home, your husband had beaten you there. You shut off your car and head inside with the army green pen tucked into your pocket as you pull your keys out and unlock the door. You step out of your shoes and venture into your cozy home.
John came from upstairs, looking freshly showered in his boxers and a bit sleepy. “Hello there, my loving husband.” You muse as you approached and gently grabbed his waist, pressing a kiss to his lips.
John lazily smiled and kissed you in return, “birdie..” he rumbled lazily as he pressed kisses all over your face and your shoulders. “Y’smell like beer and grease.” John muttered, making you laugh. “Yeah okay, big bear. I need a shower.” You giggle and gently shove your husband away to go upstairs to shower in the lovely master bathroom the two of you had designed together.
You got your shower, your husband had been scrolling on your phone while sat on one of the plush shower mats there were. “Are you fucking up my algorithms, big bear?” You tease with a laugh as you dry off and dry your hair off. You got your pajamas on, one of his shirts and some of your underwear.
John grumbled and shrugged a little as he followed you like a lost puppy. “I like messing around on your phone.” He answered as he crawled into bed after putting your phone to charge.
You laugh a little as you got in beside him and earned yourself another kiss as he nuzzled into you. “You’re so lucky I love you far too much.” You mused softly as you two kissed gently on the lips, the taste of spearmint in both of your guys’s mouths.
John groaned into the kiss as he slowly rolled you over onto your back, flattening you as he always did. He nuzzled into your neck and kissed your throat. The two of you settled and eventually fell asleep, just like that.

For 🍯 anon! I accidentally deleted the last draft so this is a quick draft of what I remember! So sorry! 😢
Credit to the comment I saw somewhere that called Jason “kitty-coded”
—
Time Written - 10:10 p.m
—
No other thought came to mind except going back home to his sweetheart, who was in the kitchen from what his exhausted mind could comprehend, cooking up something with a wonderfully delicious aroma of toasty bacon.
His hidden face plastered over a decorative pillow seconds after he dropped lifelessly onto the couch, nearly making the furniture squeak from sudden weight shift. Arms splayed out carelessly from his sides, legs awkwardly draped off along the armrest of the couch he barely fit on, due to the bulkiness of his armor.
He just looked like a sad, red lumpy potato. Barely having an ounce of strength to move so much as a finger.
The urge to make this your phone background was incredible.
“Y’know how tempting it is to pile ontop of you right now?” You call from your amused stance from the kitchen, knowing he had gotten home from the ever so familiar whirr of the living room window being yanked open by a careless vigilante.
“Try it, babe. I’ll roll over an’ make you regret it.”
If the bubbling pot on the stove was just a tad bit louder, you’d have barely heard an ounce of what Jason had said. Wiping your hands with a random kitchen towel, you approach the now slanted couch, smiling at the exhausted bulk of a man cascaded over it, nearly taking up all the space.
You shimmy yourself to sit in the most awkward way possible. Jason had enough upper strength to lift up his head and shoulders, raising his head off the pillow to unclasp his mask from his face.
The same hand carelessly tosses the pillow aside before he shuffles closer, proceeding to let his head drop on your warm thighs with a groan of heavy appreciation.
Your soft giggle warms his heart, making him feel fuzzy with a highschool crush’s giddy embarrassment. You two were together, yet you always made him feel this way.
“Fucking cold out there.” He murmurs into your lap, amusing you as you settle your fingers through his hair after pulling down his hood. Those soft, perfect little fingers worked magic along his damp locks, nails lightly scratching against the back of his scalp.
Dogs had it lucky with their owners, receiving heavenly treatment such as this.
“I’m making soup.” You say to him, smoothing down his hair after tussling small locks all in different directions.
“What kind?” Came his muffled grunt of a question.
“Potato soup.”
Irony never sounded so sweet.
“Loaded, with extra cheese.”
“You’re a goddamn angel,” Jason sighs, knowing he’ll enjoy your cooking in the comfort of a warm sweatshirt and your loving arms, after a graciously hot shower consisting of him standing under ridiculously hot water for ten minutes, rinsing off soap he borrowed from your shower rack.
“What would you do without me?” You lightly rouse his hair into a weak, limp Mohawk of sorts, unable to see his hidden smirk against your soft, flannel pajama pants.
He’d probably die again, for all he knew.

Sonny Carisi: Camera
Warning: NSFW themes- nothing super descriptive.
Sonny had promised his mother that he would print the pictures from his niece's third birthday. His caseload had been heavy, and he was already three months late delivering the pictures. He had led his mom to believe that he had already gone through edited and printed the pictures in question. The truth was that he hadn’t even looked at his camera yet.
All he wanted was to cook you a real homemade meal like he had been promising for far too long. Instead, you were in the kitchen making soup and he was pulling down his camera flipping through his pictures. A hobby that he usually took great joy in but today was feeling more like torture.
He was flipping through the pictures walking over and turning on his personal laptop. He smiled fondly flashes of a little blonde girl in a pink dress with multicolored tutu. Her running around, blowing bubbles, blowing out her birthday candles, and pink frosting smeared all over her face as she ate birthday cake.
He was only half paying attention clicking through and reaching for the cord to connect it to the computer. Then he saw a flash of burgundy lace. His eyes flash back to the screen. He stares at it for a minute as his brain comprehends what is on the screen. He brings the camera up closer to inspect the picture. He slowly went through the pictures. None had your face but there was plenty of skin on display. The lace that covered your chest was thin enough to see your skin and harden your nipples underneath. The panties were just as sheer and had straps wrapping around your thighs and stomach. In one picture with your legs spread wide thumb teasing the hem he could clearly see how wet the lace was. Some of the pictures were blurry, had an awkward angle, or both but they were all hot and had Sonny stirring in his pants.
You hear footsteps coming into the kitchen. You had the soup on the stove simmering. A thick hearty loaded potato with extra bacon to combat the bone-chilling New York cold. “Almost done,” You turn around to see Sonny at the edge of the kitchen. You are all smiles until you see the camera in his hand.
A memory hits you. You had been waiting for Sonny to get home for date night. You had gone all out shaving your legs, curling your hair, and putting on a new set. All for him to cancel on you. A new lead had popped up that needed to be checked into. You had understood and weren’t mad. You did pout and drink a bottle of wine to yourself. You had spotted the camera halfway through the bottle. It had been an impulse to take the pictures. Your drunk self had wanted Sonny to know what he had missed. You vaguely remember setting the camera back and stripping down and into one of his shirts to sleep in. You hadn’t thought of it since.
Judging by the look on Sonny’s face he had found them.
You weren’t sure what to say. You weren’t sure what he would think. Sonny often had a different perspective than most men concerned with things like this because of his years as a detective in sex crimes. “Shit, Sonny...About those pictures- I totally forgot-”
“Can I take some?” He asked abruptly and you paused a little stunned at his response. Then you noticed the bulge in his pants showing how much he enjoyed what he saw. “I want to take some pictures like these- of you,” He continued then seemingly realizing how it sounded added, “Only if you're okay with it, of course. I don’t want you to feel obligated or uncomfortable or-”
“Okay,” You agree easily. You knew you had nothing to worry about. Sonny would never show anybody pictures of you. And honestly, the thought turned you on. You squeezed your thighs together at the thought of Sonny being completely enraptured in you and your body. “One condition,”
His eyes shined with excitement and lust. He was eager. “Name it.”
“They get locked up in your gun safe.”
“Done.”
He reaches out tugging at your wrist to lead you to the bedroom. You laugh a bit in disbelief. “Now?” You look back at the soup on the stove, “Aren’t you hungry?”
“Famished,” His tone and the way he looked over you made heat pool in your lower stomach, your core clenching. You reach back turning the stove down to its lowest setting before letting Sonny lead you to the bedroom. “I didn’t recognize the set you were wearing. Will you put it back on for me Doll? You’ve given me so many ideas.”
I considered continuing this (and still might) but this seemed like a smooth stopping point. Love you guys xoxo

Headcanons for Samwise Gamgee making his spouse meals at any chance he gets...
He knows the importance of food and never ceases to remind you about how important it is to eat. He'll always prepare you breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, snacks, supper, dinner and tea. He never judges your portion sizes or how much you eat, he loves the shape of you and if you are curvy/plus size, he adores those curves.
He's a very good chef and you are always so thankful for him and his abilities.
Obviously he uses potatoes a lot, pretty much every meal because they're so versatile.
Eggs over easy with spices and herbs and herby breakfast potato cubes and a cup of hot tea.
"Made with love for my love."
Sausages, hash browns, bacon, beans, tomato, maybe more eggs.
Sandwiches with tomato, lettuce and turkey with a side of crisps for extra crunch.
"You want more? Was it good? You liked it?"
He's not only good at cooking, baking is also a skill he has.
Pancakes with berries and cream, scones and jam and clotted cream. Pastries like croissants and chocolate or maybe ham and cheese.
Toast with cheese, beans; simple but he always serves with an award winning smile.
"Here you go, beautiful. If you want more, I'll happily get you more."
Your favourite meal he makes is a roast dinner which could consist of ham, turkey, chicken or beef, roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding, sprouts, parsnips, carrots and a hearty load of gravy on top.
Sometimes he'll make a stew; leftover meat with carrots, potatoes, onions and gravy with crusty bread to dip.
Soup of all flavours (his lentil and bacon is the best though) with buttered bread. He always makes lots during the winter.
"To keep your stomach warm."
Fish with a side salad, thick chips and mushy peas.
Pasta that you help him make for scratch with a garlicky, onion tomato sauce with meatballs or sausages or even sometimes chicken with homemade garlic bread and cheese for the top.
Dessert is always delicious too...
Rich chocolate cake with ice cream and berries.
Sticky toffee pudding - a recipe passed down through generations.
Ice cream - all and every flavour you can imagine. He'll take you on walks, find berries and wild edible flowers and make ice cream from it.
Pastry stuffed with jam, cream and chocolate.
Waffles with caramel drizzled over the top.
Fruit salad, the fruit fresh from the garden.
After dinner, he'll bring you cups of tea and water with a kiss on the forehead.
Tea with biscuits.
Hot chocolate with marshmallows and fresh whipped cream for the top.
Toast as you read your book, winding down for the evening.
Before you go to bed, he double checks that you're satisfied and happy; that you're not in need of anything else. He's impossibly kind.

@sugarspunfaerie OKAY
Shortcut scalloped potatoes (kosher and non-kosher versions)!
INGREDIENTS:
Potatoes (I like gold best; maybe 6-8 of medium to large size?)
Heavy cream (make sure it's heavy; you're using this in place of a roux and light cream won't work)
Diced onions (optional but yum)
Diced ham or bacon (optional but yum, non-kosher obviously)
Shredded cheese for topping (optional but yum)
SUPPLIES:
a large glass casserole dish
an oven
A paring knife
Kitchen shears (optional but convenient)
A Y-peeler (optional but convenient)
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat the oven to 375°F or 190°C.
Prep your taters! I waffle on whether I peel them or not because peeling is a pain, but wash them extra well if you leave it. Slice each potato into medallions, about ¼ inch or half a cm thick, but it doesn't matter too much.
Take your casserole dish and alternate: a single layer of potato medallions, onions*, meat*, and enough heavy cream to cover the other ingredients. Repeat until the dish is almost full, ending on a layer of potatoes. If you want to sprinkle cheese on top, do it now.
Bake until aromatic and golden brown and bubbly on top—your oven may vary, but it usually takes mine about 80-90 minutes.
It's a lot faster and easier to prep. It does tend to separate a little upon reheating, but! It makes excellent leftover potato soup. Bonus recipe under the cut. :D
*disregard if you're making them veg!
Leftover Potato Soup
INGREDIENTS:
leftover potatoes of some kind (I've done this with mashed, scalloped, roasted, loaded hash browns...the options are kinda endless!)
Milk
seasoning of your choice (I like italian seasoning and mustard!)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Combine your leftover potatoes in a saucepan with the other ingredients.
Bring to a boil.
Reduce heat, then simmer for about 15 minutes.
I hope these help someone :3

350 Degrees, All Day Long
Where are my moms and grandmas that have been working for two days to get a holiday meal on the table? Every year a Thanksgiving cruise sounds better and better. I have sons, not daughters - there's no one in the kitchen with me sharing the load. I have an AMAZING daughter-in-law who should have her own show on the Food Network, but alas, she is in Tennessee for Thanksgiving. Since we get time with her/them all year, I grudgingly share her with her parents on Turkey Day. I started cooking yesterday, pretty much anything I could cook ahead of time went into the oven. The sweet potato casserole is 95% baked, I'll top it with the brown sugar pecan mixture and whack it in again. I made the hashbrown kickasserole that the menfolk request year after year after year. It's baked and just needs cheese on top before going back in the oven. I've blanched the green beans for the bacon-wrapped bundles, the corn pudding is ready to bake, the dressing is in progress, and so on and so on. I have so many moving parts to this meal that I leave notes for my old lady brain.
Everything says "add butt", which is exactly what this meal will do. Am I the only one who is completely over these heavy holiday meals? Maybe it's because I see everything that goes into these longtime family favorites. I'd much rather throw something tasty on the grill, roast some brussels sprouts, and maybe have a sinful baked potato.
I saved myself a lot of trouble and ordered our pie from Craft Bakery. The woman who owns the bakery and produces all of the goodies is an absolute magician. If I'm ever on death row my last meal will be her quiche and one of her blackout cookies. So our dessert is courtesy of Bri, and I purposely ordered a pumpkin pie because I don't like pumpkin pie. I'll let the gentlemen demolish it. You may ask yourself why I'm tapping away on this blog when I'm in the midst of preparing a huge meal. Good question. I'm all caught up and just waiting for free space in the oven. I do realize that by saying I'm all caught up I have now cursed the entire meal. We'll have a power outage or find that I've accidentally used an ingredient involved in a salmonella recall. Let the chips fall, folks, I don't care. Anywho - I'm sending out a hug to all of the family cooks today. I see you, I appreciate you, and I'm grateful for your efforts. May your rolls be golden and your turkey be moist. Wishing you flaky pie crusts and sweet potatoes like clouds. Most of all, I wish you help with the dishes and extra room in the refrigerator for the leftovers. A holiday frig is like a carb-loaded game of Jenga. May the odds be ever in your favor. Take heart, chefs, we can squeeze in a month of simple meals and homemade soups before we do this all over again. Sending out love today, and a heart full of gratitude for the kind people who read this little blog. You're what keeps me going during this awful time - knowing that good people with big hearts are out there just living their lives. You're the light, and I thank you for that. Stay safe, stay well, get out the stretchy pants. XOXO, Nancy
