I think the reason people are so obsessed with “consequences” for Macaque and whatnot
Is that the show+fandom are VERY harsh on Wukong and constantly beat on him for the unintentional harm he causes + tries to make up for
So when Macaque hurts people on PURPOSE for fun and gets treated with kid gloves by fans+narrative+writers
It kinda grinds down his fans, who want that Wukong vitriol to be also Macaque vitriol
yeah that’s fair. While some of animosity towards Wukong is justify (immediate example I can think of is when Wukong kept the secret that Mei was actually technically one of the rings of Samadhi from the others) and Wukong is quite far from being a perfect angel, I do think the way the fandom and the show at times unjustly vilify Wukong and make him seem like this awful mentor for MK is unjustified.
and I think that is something that could have strengthened Macaque’s ‘redemption arc’, that despite his help during the fight against LBD and his old friends, he does need to continue to do better in order to gain the trust of others (also again would’ve been really nice to see characters like MK, Mei, and even Tang be at least kinda bitter towards Macaque).
my point is more having the narrative beat Macaque over the head with how he was such a terrible person he was in the same way the fandom and show do to Wukong still does not equate to a good redemption arc, for either of them, it just more feels like the audience/writers expecting them to give an apology tour if…that makes sense. /gen

GUYS - LMK s4 and s4 spoilers-
A quick spouting of an analysis:
You know the cracks throughout season four and in the lmk special? I have a theory that the yellow cracks in the scroll represent Wukong's mistakes, while the galaxy cracks across the universe in the actual world represent Azure's mistakes.
Aside from Wukong making a lot of bad mistakes in season three, most of his mistakes were in the past and were stored in the scroll of all of Wukong's memories post jttw and before. And as each memory passes, he makes one mistake after the other. And at the cliff, most of the yellow cracks are quick, yet it was bright enough to make an impact. These sudden mistakes not only show Wukong reflecting from one bad memory to the next and beating himself up for it, but could also show present mistakes made too quickly without thinking, like the battle between him and the Jade emperor.
However, Azure's mistakes are in the present. They are happening as he tries to contain each one. As Macaque says, he fooled himself into thinking he's good, which can explain why he's trying to contain the cracks. Azure is trying to contain everything, trying to reverse the damage of everything he's doing, stubborn not to see that this whole plan of taking the emperor's power may have been a mistake. He doesn't want to see that he has made a mistake, instead, trying to hide it and to not bat it an eye.
That is, until the end, where he realizes what he has done before he truly destroys himself trying to fix everything. He isn't trying to temporarily hide the cracks, he's trying to mend the damage, even if it destroys him.
Welp, that's that ramble, though reblog other opinions if you have any, this isn't a very steady analysis.
