in the absence of adrien, due to his ever-controlling mother keeping him inside for longer than gabriel did, my initial thought was to hand the cat miraculous to alya for the emilie butterfly au, but that didn't fit the plans i had for her character, so i went through a couple of ppl and settled with chloe
i dont think it fits her quite as well as the bee, but she does know how to be destructive, even if it's in a different way to adrien. mostly im just into the dynamic of her and marinette getting close as partners while fighting as civilians, and seeing if their relationship as heroes can affect their relationship at school

There are doll companies that have been with us for a long time. Through thick and thin! And still offering your favorite sculpts.
Or, maybe they're not your favorite, but they were dolls that piqued your interest and you notice them every time you see them. "Maybe someday," you might think to yourself. But these brands are ever reliable, always there, so there's no danger of the doll going away.
Is there a doll or company that is an intermittent passing fancy, one to catch your eye when you remember they exist? If all bjd production were to shut down, which doll do you think you'd feel fomo for the most?

What Did I read This Year? A 2023 Retrospective
Ok, so this was a big year for my Tumblr blog, so I thought it would be fun to go over what I read this year! The rules for the retrospective are thus:
Only book reviews count, because I actually read or reread those books this year. First Lines, meme, and quotes do not require that, so they're not counting. Little reading updates and thought posts also don't count. So let's see what I read this year!
January 3: Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree
January 5: One for All by Lillie Lainoff

January 19: Magic's Pawn, Magic's Promise, and Magic's Price by Mercedes Lackey (trilogy)
January 22: No Dominion by CE Murphy

E por ANOS a piada do "we were on a break" sobreviveu, e muita gente comprou a briga do Ross - estávamos em 1997, claro que muita gente compraria a briga do Ross.
Enxergar as coisas sob outras perspectivas - principalmente no que diz respeito a épocas diferentes, - faz a gente crescer e aprender MUITO.

I’m personally really sad that New Adult has become, as you say, effectively its own genre of Colleen Hoover-grade erotica, because as a concept, I think it’s an invaluable sector between YA and adult. Without it, YA has the danger of getting aged-up too much (especially now as well that so many readers in their 20s and maybe 30s read it, as shown in the bookstagram and booktok boom, which feeds into the market audience demand for older protagonists or “stronger themes”), which deprioritizes younger teens. On the other end of the spectrum, books that are essentially YA in theme (coming of age plots, finding the self plots) are shelved as adult because of sex or language. I find this a common theme with books written by some of the newer authors in their 20s who are coming on the scene (Ava Reid, Chloe Gong, etc), whose version of an adult fantasy novel feels tonally less mature than say NK Jemisin (I personally find this a bigger problem with fantasy in general but that’s another rant).
But to get back to actual LM Montgomery, I think she always knew she was writing for a “young” audience—at least an audience whose morals she had to worry about influencing. At the same time, we know grownups loved and read her books—Mark Twain being one of them. So, now that I think about it, she probably would have been writing for the YA audience of her own era, but with unusual perspicacity to reach all different generations as she did so.
For all Anne of green gables fans: what “age” genre do you classify the books as? (Like childrens lit, YA lit, adult lit).
When I go to the library, I always find the books in the childrens section. It makes sense for the first book and maybe Anne of avonlea, but the rest I wouldn’t really classify as childrens lit per say… the only other one I can see being for children is Rainbow Valley.
I think they’re appropriate for children with a high enough reading level, but the later books aren’t really written for children in particular (imo).
Thoughts?

~"I still don't know why you won't just walk on the rocks." She's not having any trouble at all--even though they are a bit slippery. (for Chloe)
The wet grass squeaks underfoot as Chloe comes to a sudden stop, a small frown visible upon her lips as she moves her camcorder out of the way.
Tumblr media
“That’s DAY ONE SHIT, Michelle. You never walk on the rocks by a river.” She sounds oddly serious---and experienced to boot---but it’s not enough of  a tonal difference to make her friend listen so she continues, “What if you fall in? Or what if you see a face in the water? Or what if a hand reaches up and grabs you?” It sounds childish---experience, experience, experience---but it’s enough. Chloe’s tirade is only halfway concluded and then her friend is moving to the right towards the safety of the grass.
“....Good. You might end up being the FINAL GIRL after all, stay sharp kiddo.” Back to jokes, back to recording, back to avoiding the river and ignoring just how wet the grass is---marshy, even. Ignore the hands in the water, ignore the hands in the mud. Ignore the bodies in the water, ignore the bodies in the grass.
