PATCH Cuts for a Cause

Last November, I was invited by Ms. Patricia “Patch” Corbito, a 3rd year ABMA student from Asia Pacific College-Makati to attend the event which is PATCH Cuts for a Cause--the event is all about the issue of breaking the standards of beauty by informing the society that the beauty of one’s natural hair is their own unique identity.

Since I didn’t know where the venue is, we rode LRT, riding a jeep and we made it to APC.

Since we graced to the venue at about 1PM I think, I saw Jelvin Base doing the typography infront of the crowd.

While I’m waiting my share to do some art live, I approached 3 of the artists if my memory serves me right, I met Ayn, Dici and Djax.

While I’m hanging out with them, they draw me. I was elated that I have 3 artworks from them and at the same time, I bought one of the stickers created by her.

While I’m still waiting, Deanne shares her secrets about the handwriting and afterwards, she performed her typography artwork in front of the people and after the performance, she created the type art for me.

And after hours of waiting, I’m still shaking as hell. I felt nervous but I’m trying to get through it just to do my thing (even though this is my first time to do it.) I performed my live artwork live and I think I did it well no matter what happen.

And at the end of the day, I got my experience because of that. I have no word to expressed it because I enjoyed every second of my life and I think this is one of my turning points of my career as an artist. I hope I will do this again in the future.

Florian Feigl

Since 1997 Feigl creates and realizes performance art work in Germany and throughout Europe. His work happens in galleries or on a boat, in a former cinema or on a gravel pit, on paper or in the web, on a field or in theaters. The work often starts from strict conceptual frames and propositions. Collaborative relations between human and non-human bodies, environment and technology, performer and audiences inform artistic decisions and aesthetics in the making. Formats of publication are often – though by far not always – live and time based. Focus of the most recent artistic work is the experimental 24hour video „300“ (working title). 

Besides the solo work Feigl collaborates with various artists and artists' collectives, among others Showcase Beat Le Mot (until 2004), Wagner-Feigl-Forschung/Festspiele with Otmar Wagner and most recently with Jörn J. Burmester in various formats. Together with Jörn J. Burmester Feigl facilitated for over ten years the monthly performance art event Performer Stammtisch in Berlin, he is co-founder of the Month of Performance Art–Berlin (MPA–B) and co-founder and current treasurer of the Association of Performance Art in Berlin e.V. (APAB e.V.). Feigl publishes about performance art in German and International publications and art magazines (liveartwork DVD, Performance Research e.g.). His research interests focus over the past ten years on teaching and learning as performing arts, documentation and archiving in process based art and most recently on permanent cultures – ecologies of making in the arts. From 2014 to 2016 Feigl held a guest professorship at HZT–Berlin (Inter University Center of Dance – Berlin) at Universität der Künste Berlin. He was teaching in the three programs BA “Dance, Context, Choreography”, MA "Solo Dance Authorship" (SoDA) and MA "Choreographie" (maC). He was head of the BA program in the summer semester 2016. 

Seit 1997 entwickelt und zeigt Feigl Performance als Kunst, arbeitet in Kollaboration mit Künstlerinnen und Gruppen, organisiert, veröffentlicht und forscht in künstlerischen, akademischen und gesellschaftlich-unternehmerischen Zusammenhängen. Feigl veröffentlicht in Galerien oder auf einem Boot, in einem ehemaligen Kino oder auf dem Schrottplatz, auf A4 oder im Netz, auf einem Feld oder in Theatern. Die Arbeiten gehen oft von reduzierten Fragestellungen und streng formalen Rahmungen aus. (APAB e.V.), dessen Arbeit er weiterhin als Vorstandsmitglied begleitet.
