I was explaining to my spouse Renfield's whole deal with trying to consume as many lives as possible, and after a thoughtful pause he said, "He needs to eat some yogurt."

I’m approaching 27 which means that we are now in this unexpected period of life where we need to replace all of our “good enough for now” things that we got super cheap (or free from family) when we first started living on our own. I am realizing that it is VERY difficult to get rid of things, not just from an emotional attachment standpoint but also:
“Well it technically DOES still work even if it’s unpleasant and falling apart” (especially applicable to ugly/uncomfortable furniture)
“We don’t have to get rid of it, we can always repair it” (it is literally broken and falling apart)
“Wouldn’t it be Bad and Consumeristic to just throw something away that isn’t actually broken just because I want a new one?” (this one plagues me)
“Getting a New Thing would be way too expensive” (hasn’t even checked the price of a replacement, I absolutely can afford it but it would cost more than $50)
Even when I’ve fought through those arguments (which is very hard to do considering these are things I learned while growing up during the 2008 recession and struggling financially due to severe illness and death in the family when I was young) and come out the other side determined to actually replace something, a new issue arises. “How am I going to get rid of the old thing?”
“I can’t donate this because it’s broken or stained”
“I want to sell this but this requires a lot of energy that I don’t have (photographing the item, pricing the item, posting an ad for the item, sorting through offers for the item, arranging pickup for the item, possibly even shipping the item)”
“I want to throw this away but it’s too large to put in the garbage so it must go on the curb and I don’t know the protocol for that”
“I want to throw this away but it’s too large to put in the garbage and too broken to give away so it must go to the dump and I don’t have a vehicle I can use to take this there so I will need to reach out to family for help”
“I want to throw this away but I’m not sure how to do so in an Environmentally Friendly way”
This sort of situation is a nightmare for my mentally ill mind, and it results in me simply giving up and putting up with keeping the shitty item I know I want to replace and repeating the same excuses to myself to justify it enough that I don’t break down in frustrated tears every time I look at the thing I’ve been wanting to get rid of for months.
I’m sick of it though. I am tired of having to put up with being stuck with something I don’t like just because it’s not “bad enough” to justify going through the stress of removing from my life. I am tired of living with these things that I want to get rid of taking up the space I want to give to something new that I do love that I picked out myself on purpose. I am tired of my own happiness not being a good enough reason to justify doing something difficult or inconvenient. I am approaching 30. I don’t want to live the next decade of my life like I’ve lived the first two, just dealing with what’s been given to me and not saying no, incapable of removing things I don’t like to make space for things I do.

Lore post bc why not
I 100% stole the mushroom and fungus thing from tlou. So the “infection” isn’t actually ONE thing. It’s a bacteria and fungus. The bacteria has a mutualistic relationship with fungi. It lives off the fungi and in turn attacks other organisms (plants) to remove competition for the fungi (in space and area probably. Idk I’m making this up as I go along). This ALSO provides more potential nutrients for the fungi.
The bacteria sees ANIMAL organisms as “competition” for the fungus. So, if an animal were to consume one of the host fungi, or catch it through other means, they could now possibly be infected. The bacteria (and the fungus if it happens to be deadly) will kill off the animal. Via some awesome scifi reasons that Idc enough to make up, the infection is now able to kindaaa. Puppet around the animal’s corpse. You can make up your own reasons for this.
So. The thing is. When the fungi’s spores spread, it carries the bacteria with it. And now, the fungus has a free MOBILE food source. It’s a LOT easier to spread spores REALLY FAR now.
All of this does mean that the fungi is left with no other nutrient sources once the bacteria has killed off all the surrounding plants. The only option left is animals, otherwise it’ll die.
Anyways, this is why the cats refer to the infection as “decay in the earth” and whatnot. Because the bacteria is killing as many other organisms as it can. Seeing some ground with NO plants and only mushrooms is a BAD BAD B A D SIGN!!!

*kicks down your door* i just rewatched Train to Busan aND WAAAH MY MIND IMMEDIATELY WENT BACK TO YOUR ZOMBIE AU will zombie mob become human again bcs i'm seriously hurting for ritsu THAT BOY NEEDS A HUG (also also, give zombie mob some milk too, i think he deserves it 😔)
- 🪻
OOOO i've never watched train to busan !! just looked it up it looks inchresting
and yes !! absolutely yes they find a way to cure him eventually. haven't thought abt the actual process too much, but it takes a long while, and he's never rly the same afterward
he doesn't just magically turn back to being a healthy human—there are things that stay with him well beyond the curing. some of his speech is slower, and muddled. definitely a lot of nerve damage, and his sense of pain is forever fucked up. sometimes i think it'd take a bit for a concept to click in his head, even if it seems simple
i've changed it a bit since i last talked abt it i think ? but it's very easy for zombies to die from sleep deprivation bc they never feel tired. something in their brains has simply gone offline, so the signals we typically get that tell us to rest are nonexistent here. a zombie will quite literally keep walking until it collapses and dies from exhaustion. after mob is cured, those signals are still absent and he'll stay up for days simply bc he doesn't feel tired, so he has to follow a strict schedule
overall he's never quite the same as before, zombie or no. that same exact mob from before the apocalypse will Never be here again, but ritsu doesn't mind that so much. he gets his brother back, even if some chunks are rusty or malfunctioning. he can hold a conversation with his brother again, and he's never been happier. unluckiest, luckiest kid alive.

Doodledex - #705-A Hisuian Sliggoo
While there's no outward change to the Goomy that lived in Hisui, the same can't be said for their evolution! Thanks to exposure to high concentrations of iron in the water there, Hisuian Sliggoo are Steel/Dragon types and have developed a large, round, metallic shell! (And yeah, this technically makes them snails instead of slugs.)
However, unlike normal snails that only keep their organs in their shell, Hisuian Sliggoo holes its entire body up in there, with only its head and arms sticking out! It seems like this would make it awkward to move around... but when it needs to go fast it will retract all the way into its shell, stand itself up on its side and roll away!
