Back then in Liurnia, Izar and Ensha—astrologer and guard; the one who liked to stray off her path and the one who always followed his orders—kept their safe, cautious distance from each other. Neither of them had chosen this mission; neither of them wanted to be here, and least of all in the other’s company. And so, the distrust hanging between them felt as heavy as the mist over Liurnia’s lake.
There had been failures, before, on Ensha’s end: first in that village, later at the Hold. He had believed a moment of surprise to be enough—lurking in the graceless shadows of the hall that evening, his task plain and simple: to take out the astrologer. She was inexperienced. Not a fighter. It should have been easy. Instead, he had found himself tripped, then knocked down by the cracking impact of a pot, engulfed by the heavy scent of Trina’s Lily. Knocked out. Spared.
How dare she spare me.
He was still angry when they made their way towards the Laskyar ruins and past them. Angry with her for besting him without skill and letting him live. Angry with himself for having failed. Angry with Sir Gideon for tasking him with the most obnoxious and humilliating job ever: to keep an eye on the astrologer, and protect her… for the time being.
(Angry, too, with Liurnia being Liurnia with its cursed lake and humidity and murky water up to his ankles.)
Nevertheless, Ensha told himself he would be fine. It was just this one mission. They’d find the Albinauric woman, and extract the information, and this time he’d kill the astrologer—no tripping, no sleep pot—, and everything would go back to normal.
Everything.
He was, of course, very wrong.

The Carian Siblings and Miquella - Part 5: Miquella's Lilies throughout Liurnia
Changing the name of these posts. While they mostly concern Radahn it seems all 3 siblings were involved with Miquella in some way.
There are a whole lot of these Lilies throughout the region, so first I'll bounce between Caria Manor and the Academy. There are a few other places within Liurnia that I've already looked at like Converted Fringe Tower.
First is the Lilies located in and around Raya Lucaria Academy.
Here are 3 Lilies just beneath the small garden and living area before Rennala's arena. It is in fact a nearly direct drop from, what I assume is the royal quarters of the Academy. This area has the elevator to Rennala's arena and is the highest point of the area with the nicest accommodations. Near the 3 Lilies area 1st gen Albunarics, including a mounted one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the Temple Quarter are another clump of 3 Lilies amongst the ruins, next to a nice circle of flowers. Within the circle is the body of a 1st gen Albunaric carrying Rimed Crystal Bud. Perhaps she came from the birth to gather the ramining Albunarucs?
Rimmed Crystal Buds are only found in the Snowfield and a few places here in Liurnia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Just across from the flowers and the Lilies is a notable piece of equipment - the Icerind Hatchet. Sent by Castle Sol it's the only remaining piece of a selection of gifts given to the Academy/Carians. The Carians controlled the Academy, but It's not clear which is specifically the recipient since this weapon is found in the ruined Temple Quarter. At this point in the game the player would know nothing about Castle Sol so the Icerind Hatchet would not stand out.
Given the timeframe of the game though, once the player actually gets through Castle Sol it should be clear Miquella sent the Hatchet and other gifts. I discussed this with other people and Miquella is the only person in control of the Castle that could and would have sent it. "When" is likely not super important only that it was a gift to the Academy or Carian's who controlled the Academy.
If this weapon was meant for the Albunarics it would more likely be in the village, or other spots not fully controlled by the Academy.
Of course I am assuming that the Temple Quarter was intact at the time of the reception and that a prestigious gift wasn't left in a half sunken part of the Academy.
Also to note, the Hatchet is found in what is likely a ruined belltower. Given that the Academy frequently makes use of bells in its architecture, Ranni gives the Spirit Summoning Bell, and Church of Vows having a bell, its not much of a leap to assume this area held one or more belltowers.
This won't be the first time a item linking the Carians and Miquella is found in a belltower.
Tumblr media
And Rimed Crystal Buds are a bit out of place here too. These items are only found in the Consecrated Snowfield, but some are found in 2 places outside that region. Besides the Buds on the Albunaric corpse there are corpses all over Caria Manor holding Rimed Crystal Buds.
But I'll cover that on a Caria Manor post.
back to Miquella's Lilies, there's a single Lily at the Four Belfries, hidden on a small cliff ledge. There's a small tree next to it that amusingly blocks Leyndell from view, and this spot gives a scenic view of the Academy and Liurnia. Otherwise I admit I can't come up with a theory for why Miquella was here other than for the pleasure of a nice view, alone, with his sister, or others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the shore across the lake, right next the the road to the Academy is a small niche in the cliff. If you drop down here you'll find a single Miquella's Lily. Again there is little I can see here of interest, but is a great sightseeing spot of almost the entire lake and it's landmarks.

youtube
The Albunaric Village too is home to a Lily here near the bridge. Hes long had an interest in these supposedly Graceless people so of course he'd have been here at least a few times. Um I actually don't have a pic of the exact spot itself, I don't have time for a replay to get here again, got a bunch more games I'm working on.
Tumblr media
Theres also a Perfumer near the Lily, so there's the possibility that it was planted by this one, though the presence of Lilies at the Perfumers makes me think this one only found this Lily and thus guards it for themselves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mausaleum Compound holds a whopping 4 Lilies, one bunch of 3 and a single one nearby. The first 3 overlook a pond with a Walking Mausoleum, and a nearby corpse has the Stalwart Horn Charm. These Mausoleums house the bodies of soulless demigods presumably killed in the Night of Black Knives. Why though, are there so many here in Liurnia compared to, say, everywhere else? Were they already here long before and Leyndell requested their use? Did Liurnia create some to house the dead for Leyndell? Or where they compelled to?
Leyndell has not a single Mausoleum nearby, so did they ship their dead out to other lands, out of sight? Perhaps these ones had demigods Miquella knew.
To be frank I haven't a clue yet why there are 3 Mausoleums in Liurnia, and my only read on Miquella's interest is sentimental. If you've got better insight or evidence please let me know
The Horn Charm I've read could be related to Torrent, as a piece of his antlers chopped off to make a trinket. Sounds nice and is a hypothesis I like, but won't seriously argue for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another Lily in the Mausoleum Compound in front of this statue. Seen frequently underground, especially in Nox and ancient civilization related areas. Likely Miquella came here for research about this enigmatic figure, Elden John, or to study past civilizations in general. These groups in general tend to have ties to present groups of sorcerers and Carians in general. Miquella certainly had plenty of opportunities to study here in Liurnia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here near the Church of Inhibition is another Lily. The timeline for this area is a bit muddled in regards to Miquella. Was he here around the time that Vyke took up residence? Or when this area was infected by Frenzy? Regardless I think he was here mostly for research into the influence of Outer Gods.
Ill call this list complete for now, there are a few other Lilies here that I didn't touch on like the ones in Jarburg, which I can do later.
Next up Caria Manor!
Edit:jesus christ i forgot an image of the Icerind Hatchet

discussion in the chat of quelaag's lore stream reminded me of a little lore theory i had a while ago about why Liurnia is sinking - i always thought this was because of the Carian connection to the moon because the moon controls tides 🌕
someone else suggested it was because of mining for glintstone it basically turned the ground into a bog, which makes sense!! but i like my idea better because it's more whimsical and magic teehee

Church of Irith
It took me a moment to get my bearings, make sure i was fully back on this plane of reality. i took a few looks off the side of the tower to see what I could see. Most of it wasn't worth writing about. Unusual, to be fair, but I categorized it as "I'll get to it when I get to it."
Now, when I looked out to the northeast... that was something worth looking at.
Tumblr media
another tower, north of Caelid, all on its own. Interesting enough, but behind it...was that a waterfall? A waterfall in the ocean? I remembered that a few times I had seen something weird in the central sea, but to see it confirmed like this... I'll have to get a closer look when I visit Caelid again, something I'm not in any hurry to do.
Tumblr media
I returned Liurnia of the Lakes and headed towards the nearest landmark: A church called the "Church of Irith."
Hm. That name. It brought to mind another life. A cold valley bathed in moonlight. A corrupt pontiff. A princess in a tower. The sun realm up above.
The connections were vague here, except that this was a land of the moon, at the foot of the land of the sun.
Tumblr media
After picking up the sacred tear, I noticed a man sitting on a bench near the statue. He was one of those guys who just radiates sadness. Not just because he's sad, which he certainly is, but because he makes you sad just looking at him. Like this is someone who has never caught a break in his entire life.
He introduced himself as Thops and said that he'd give me information for a small donation of runes. I was expecting him to be underplaying it, but no. He wanted ten runes. Ten?! That'll hardly get you a meal. I think sheep have more runes than that. Just how hard-up is this guy?
He offered to sell me spells too. Nothing too impressive, but I bought one just out of pity. After that, he told me that i needed a glintstone key to get into the academy, and that he...left his inside. Jeez.
I had to leave him alone before I started spiraling into depression. The man just had a cloud over him. I headed somewhere a little more cheery, like the graveyard.
Tumblr media
The skeletons here were a bit more dangerous than elsewhere. Some of them were death sorcerers who summoned skulls with their scythes, while others were hulks with axes that must have been executioners in life. The latter took three pots of holy water to fell, so I might need to think of a new strategy.
Tumblr media
I found an Academy Scroll resting on one of the graves. I couldn't decipher it so I took it to Sellen. She informed me that this was typically the place where a "bluntstone" stopped learning. Thops had used the same word to describe himself. I wonder if this was his scroll? Perhaps he left the Academy to visit a friend's grave? That sounds right. It makes him sadder.
Well, not a lot to do here, but it was a good start to my journey through my homeland.
Why did they lock down the academy?

A fanart of a location in one of my favourite games through out the last couple of years. This is Liurnia of the Lakes, from the game Elden Ring.
I've seen plenty of fanarts of different characters from the game, but not that often tributes to the locations/environments.

This is such a copout and I love it, but that magic ghost battle in Liurnia is getting me so many runes by letting them fight each other over and over.

Tumblr media
Stats
Vigor: after 55, the payoff for vigor decreases dramatically. It’s much more worth it to invest more points in your offensive stats and use a rune arc or talismans to increase your health
int & dex: i always like to have a back-up offensive stat, and dex pairs so well with int for moonveil and because it increases the casting speed. if you're lower leveled though, definitely focus on getting int up first and just use radagon's icon for faster casting speed until your dex is higher
end: i kept running into the problem where i couldn't cast so frequently because i didn't have enough stamina. i prefer to have my end at least 30 so that i'm not constantly running out. the green pickled turtle neck that increases stamina regen speed is a good thing to use until you can spare the points for this stat
arc: i like arcane because some weapons scale with it (albeit poorly) and it does get your discovery up. we love finding things!
Weapons
Carian regal scepter and moonveil, both +10, is a must for a good sorcerer build. you could use lusat's glintstone staff, but it consumes a lot more fp than the regal scepter. moonveil is amazing for pvp and just about any enemy you can think of. for enemies immune to bleed and slash damage, i like to use bastard's stars for its magic damage and insane skill.
Talismans
Since you'll likely be using moonveil's skill a lot, godfrey's icon is great since it'll give you even more damage. it also enhances charged spells, so overall this talisman is a must if you want to focus on damage output. the same goes with the graven-mass talisman. it significantly improves the damage of your spells. it is a late-game talisman though, and its counterpart, graven-school talisman, will work fine until you reach it. rotten sword insignia also focuses on damage output, since it increases the power of successive attacks. this can work great if you're volleying bosses or pvp.
i like to focus on damage output, but you could definitely use some more defensive talismans including the dragoncrest greatshield talisman.
ancestral spirit's horn is a must, and will do you so many favors in co-op and in your build overall. you do have to progress a bit through Ranni's quest to get to the area it's in, but it is worth it. it replenishes 3 points of fp for each enemy killed, and it really adds up after a while. starlight shards are so rare that i don't really like to use them, and this talisman kind of negates their existence. the only time this talisman won't make a difference is when you're using intensive spells on a lot of enemies, since it won't make too much of a difference how much fp you have.
Wonderous physick crystal tears
I like to use the crimson bubbletear since my armor rating isn't very high given the low endurance. this tear has saved me in so many boss fights and given me the edge i need to win first try.
the magic-shrouding crystal tear is offensive and increases the damage output of your spells for a certain time. i find it very useful when i'm dealing with a boss with a massive hp bar, since it can help me to quickly get it down to almost half health in the beginning of the fight.
the cerulean crystal tear is great too, since it eliminates all fp consumption for a time. i only find this useful in pvp since it is so easy to run out of fp in those fights. the ancester's horn talisman is obsolete in pvp since you're not getting enough deaths to replenish your fp. i like to use the cerulean crystal tear when i am on my last leg in pvp, and it has saved me a few times
Tumblr media
hope you enjoyed!
