i never really enjoyed the episodes on the island during s.2 (it’s been two years or so since i watched the series fully, idk the names <\3), what are your thoughts? what do you think the island added to the series besides run time and jokes? the only part i really liked about the island eps was when they had the totem that made them see what they really, REALLY wanted in that moment and how they kinda reflected that throughout s.3 (i can only think of rapz and lance rn. rapz wanting her parents = losing them by their memories being taken away during s.3, and lance receiving wealth and stability by being a part of rapunzel’s crew)

The island gave us Rapunzel and Eugene's island outfits, and I won't hear a word against them. XD

Honestly, I felt like "King Pascal" was just "Pascal's Story Redux". We didn't need another episode where he felt all left out. (Though Lance had some absolutely amazing moments in that ep, and again, we got to see Rapunzel and Eugene's island outfits for the first time.)

I did like "There's Something About Hook Foot" more than I thought I would, though. As much as people disliked his presence on the journey, I didn't mind it, and I adored that Seraphina is a plus-size mermaid and is described as stunningly beautiful. That episode also allowed us to see Rapunzel and Eugene at odds with one another which is good! It's not that a couple fighting is "healthy," as some sources might have you believe, but allowing them to have their own personalities and not always agree with one another is not a bad thing. Not to mention, they did healthily go about their conflict resolution, and it was interesting to analyze each of their sides of the argument.

Eugene thinks love is hard work. The only other long-term relationship he's been in (that we know of) was with Stalyan, and if that wasn't hard work, I don't know what was! Not to mention, his own experience courting Rapunzel has been difficult. Frederic resisted the idea of Eugene being with Rapunzel for at least six months, calling him her friend to her face. Eugene thinks love is hard work because he feels like he needs to always appear perfect to be seen worthy of Rapunzel. Rapunzel, on the other hand, thinks being yourself is what it takes. Her only experience with romantic love is with Eugene, and he fell in love with her because she's her. To her, loving Eugene is easy, and it seems to be easy for him to love her. If love is hard work, is she not working hard enough? Is he not being his authentic self and hiding who he really is from her? Does he think she's not being her authentic self? There's a lot to unpack under the surface.

This episode also canonized mermaids in the universe, as well as Vodniks, which I think is just swell. Plus, it gave us level two of the Smolder: the Simmer. Can't go wrong. XD

I agree with you about "Happiness Is..." being the best one of the group (even if it is a sort of anti-drug allegory). It was very funny, quite touching, Eugene looks amazing with green eyes, and we got level three of the Smolder: the Blaze. I didn't know I needed two more levels of the Smolder in my life, but here we are! XD

I don't mind the Lorbs existing, but their execution wasn't my favorite. But they are further reminders that Tangled does not take place in our world, if little tropical leaf people with German accents exist.

So, fun fact about the series, they wanted S2 to be in a different location in every episode, but that cost too much in location production. So instead, they were in a new location in almost every episode, with pit stops in Vardaros, Terapi Island and The House of Yesterday's Tomorrow.

I do not think we have ever before had a Disney live action redux, as much debated about as “The Little Mermaid”.

Ariel has always been my favourite princess, mostly because of her story - that she’s a dreamer, a risk taker, and her longing to be a “part of that world” moves me on a deep emotional level. What she looks like (ethnicity, hair or skin colour, waist size) never mattered to me. She’s Ariel because of THAT story and THAT message. Even we, as human beings (not fantasy mermaids), are made up of OUR stories (not our skin colour, not our appearance, outer shell or size).

So I think it is sad that people fail to see that THAT is the message of “The Little Mermaid”. It is about acceptance. It is about breaking boundaries between worlds. It is about allowing someone to just be - to listen to WHO THEY ARE INSIDE, and not restrict another to a specific zone just because of “how they look” (fins or feet, black or white)…

If you still fail to see beyond Ariel’s appearance, then you never truly understand Ariel or the story or the message and everything this beautiful tale stands for.

The Great OC Alphabet Caper Redux: LSOHG Edition

(Credit to @sleepyowlwrites for this idea!)

When I did this the last time I hadn’t started Like Snow on Hungry Graves, so I had very little information about its characters. Now I’m planning book two, so here’s more about them!

In alphabetical order under the cut:

Darejan

Name: Darejan Lajareshvalë

Age/Pronouns: 17-ish (in human years, but *SPOILER* she may not be completely human), she/her

Brief physical description: Brown hair, grey eyes. Shorter than her sister and bitter about it. This Artbreeder portrait is close to how I picture her:

Brief list of defining traits: Constantly underestimates how stupid Rusudan can be. Spends most of the story facepalming in the background.

Excerpt (this is a first draft of a future scene, and may not make it into the finished book):

Darejan looked at the guest list, then at Rusudan. “You want me to organise a party in two days’ time... for three hundred people... and you decided to spring this on me right now.”

Rusudan didn’t even have the grace to look sheepish. “Why not? Just last week you said it’s been ages since we had a party.”

Darejan whacked her on the head with the rolled-up guest list.

Trivia:

Is named after Darejan Dadiani

Rusudan’s sister. On paper she has nothing to do with Rusudan’s criminal empire. In practice the whole organisation would have collapsed long ago without Darejan.

May or may not end up with Hariye

Her surname was originally Lazarashvili. But then I realised that if I gave her both a real Georgian first name and a real Georgian surname, then I might give her a name someone has in real life. So I fantasy-ised the spelling of all the real surnames used in the WIP.

Hariye

Name: Hariye Zinoth han-Teyar. Also uses the alias Zviad Mikheijë

Age/Pronouns: 15 in book 1, 19 in book 2. He/him

Brief physical description: This Artbreeder portrait is close-ish to how I picture him, though I made him look too young (and he should have longer hair):

Brief list of defining traits: Is half-human half-mer. Turns into a mermaid (mer-boy?) in water. Has lots of weird magical powers and doesn’t know about half of them yet. Spends most of the story getting kidnapped by various ne’er-do-wells.

Excerpt:

Hariye didn't sleep at all that night. Ketevan oh-so-generously let him have the bed while she slept on the settee. That didn't make him feel any safer. Not when she was between him and the door. It was locked and she had the key in her pocket. She also had a sword by her side. Trying to escape was hopeless.

When he thought she was asleep he risked sitting up to examine the window. Even from a distance of several feet he could see that it was the sort of window that couldn't be open. He slumped down in despair.

Something heavy pressed against his side. Hariye reached into his pocket to see what it was. His fingers touched cold metal. At once his eyes snapped fully open. He bit his lip to stop from giving a delighted exclamation. Until now he'd completely forgotten about the knife Rusudan gave him.

It was a small knife, barely more than a penknife, and not very sharp. He ran his fingertip along the blade and didn't cut himself. But if it was stabbed with force it would certainly break someone's skin.

His thoughts raced. For the rest of the night he was in such a state of excitement that he could hardly lie still and pretend to sleep.

Ketevan lay so motionless that he strongly suspected she was also awake, waiting for him to make a move. He wanted nothing more than to jump up, stab her in the heart, then take the key and unlock the door. But he forced himself to do nothing. Ketevan was armed with a real weapon and she was much more experienced in using it than he was. Even if by some miracle he managed to kill her, he still had to run the gauntlet of all the guards outside who believed he was a criminal. No, he couldn't take action here. He had to wait until they left tomorrow.

Trivia:

Everything that happens to him in book 1 is basically The Little Mermaid meets Goodbye My Princess. Things don’t exactly get better for him in book 2.

His story is also very loosely inspired by the first half of Ghias ad-Din’s life, though with a happier ending.

Ketevan

Name: Ketevan Diashamijë

Age/Pronouns: 27 in book 1, 31 in book 2. She/her

Brief physical description: Light brown hair, brown eyes, average height.

Brief list of defining traits: The worst. Is tied with Haliran from TPATG for “most horrifying character I’ve ever written”.

Excerpt (warning: contains an adult preying on a minor and non-consensual kissing):

Hariye listened intently. Someone was doing something at the front door, something that scratched and clicked like a lock being picked. Then he heard the door open. He pulled the quilt up to his chin and pretended to be fast asleep. Footsteps came up the staircase. Spurs clinked as the newcomer approached.

The bedroom door slid open. Hariye kept his eyes shut and forced himself to breathe slowly and evenly. Through the flickering light playing across his eyelids he could tell the newcomer had brought a candle. They set the candle down on the bedside table and sat on the edge of the bed.

As they leant over him Hariye caught a whiff of their scent. Rusudan had smelt of wood and flowers and leather, while Ketevan always smelled of horses and sweat and the sea. He knew at once it was Ketevan in the room. She hovered over him and he knew she was studying his face intently.

Years ago Hariye had perfected the art of pretending to be asleep so he could eavesdrop on his brothers' conversations in their shared bedroom. He'd learnt some very useful blackmail material from those conversations. Something told him that if he stayed still now he'd learn something even more important.

Ketevan didn't move for a while. Then suddenly he felt her lean down. Next all thoughts were driven out of his mind, because she pressed her lips against his.

Only shock and outrage kept Hariye from opening his eyes. He lay frozen as she got up and left the room. As soon as the door closed behind her he opened his eyes. He stared up at the ceiling, just barely visible in the pre-dawn light, and tried to wrap his mind around what had just happened. It was so shocking that he could hardly believe it hadn't been a dream. But it couldn't be a dream when he still felt her lips on his.

Trivia:

Is named after Ketevan the Martyr but based on Rusudan of Georgia

Writing her makes my skin crawl

Konstantine

Name: Konstantine Niðarajë (current alias), Vasilij Giljov (name given to him by his mother), Gao Cheng Yin (name given to him by his father)

Age/Pronouns: 24 (in human years), he/him

Brief physical description: Tall, black hair, brown eyes

Brief list of defining traits: Wants to solve crimes in peace. Not amused with how everyone insists on dragging him into their schemes.

Excerpt:

Konstantine had learnt as a child that he could unnerve people with his eyes. It was part of his inheritance from his mother. Unlike her he couldn't cast a spell on someone by looking at them, unlike her he couldn't make them say everything on their mind, but he could stare at them until their skin crawled and they spoke just to make him look away.

The emperor had no more resistance to it than an ordinary human. He flinched and rubbed his forehead as if he was suddenly struck by a headache.

He began to explain, slowly and unwillingly. "The Çarisar Khanate has been a thorn in our side for too long. They hold the passes of the Zadrolok Mountains and our merchants must pay a tax to be allowed through. But they have done nothing yet that would give us the right to invade. We need Vakaryan's support to launch a successful invasion; they hold the coast of the Blood Water and our ships couldn't pass their watchtowers unseen. But Vakaryan will not help us if our reason for invading is simply to extend our borders."

The emperor trailed off. Konstantine continued to stare at him until he resumed his explanation.

"I have arranged a marriage between one of my sons and the Khan's daughter. The groom will be escorted into Güzenbeyli, the wedding ceremony will go smoothly, and then the groom will be assassinated at the banquet afterwards. Naturally Sui cannot allow such a dreadful crime to go unpunished."

Konstantine felt his skin crawl as he looked up at his father. He couldn't keep the disgust off his face or out of his voice. "So you have summoned me to replace my soon-to-be-murdered brother."

"Oh no." A ghastly smile crossed the emperor's face. "No, I would never throw away the life of one of my true-born sons."

Light began to dawn. "So you see a way to get rid of your unwanted half-breed bastard."

The emperor nodded, his self-satisfied expression returning. "Exactly. I'm glad to see we understand each other."

Konstantine looked at him, then looked back at the doors to the throne room. They were closed and no doubt barred from the outside. He thought of how long the journey was from the main gates to the steps of the palace. He thought of how many guards were on duty. "And of course I cannot leave this place."

Trivia:

Is half-dragon... two different sorts of dragon. His mother is a Western dragon and his father is an Eastern dragon (inspired by this post).

Is a detective trying to bring down the local mob boss (AKA Rusudan).

Gets into a marriage-of-convenience/enemies-to-lovers situation with Rusudan

Both sides of his family are awful and he wants nothing to do with them

Cheng Yin, the name his father gives him, is a reference to Li Cheng Yin from Goodbye My Princess

Levan

Name: Levan Khidirshvalë

Age/Pronouns: Around 30 when he died, he/him

Brief physical description: In a word, disturbing. He’s a zombie kept “alive” by spite, and it shows.

Brief list of defining traits: Was killed by one of the gangs who used to run the city. Keeps Konstantine updated on crimes committed near the water.

Excerpt (warning for body horror):

A faint tap against the side of the boat caught his attention. Konstantine got up and went on-deck. Something moved beneath the water. A ghastly half-skeletal face rose above the surface. Its remaining skin was discoloured and hung loosely on its bones. It had no eyeballs. A dark blue light shone in its empty sockets.

Many people drowned mysteriously around the city. And where there was a lot of misery and unnatural death, ghosts followed.

"Hello, Levan," Konstantine said politely. It would never do to be rude to the dead. Especially when he might need their help some day. "I have some information that might interest you."

Levan Khidirshvalë was one of the many ghosts lingering around the docks. Most ghosts forgot their original identities within a few years. They faded away and eventually either disappeared or became mere wisps. Not Levan. Whether he was more recently dead than most — which was hard to reconcile with his decayed body — or simply was more determined to get revenge, Konstantine had never been able to guess.

When Konstantine first moved onto this boat, Levan had tried to drown him. He had given that up once he discovered he was dealing with a half-dragon. Now they were each other's main source of information. Levan told Konstantine about crimes committed along the shore, and Konstantine told Levan about crimes committed in the city. He recounted his discovery this evening. Levan listened in silence until he finished.

Trivia:

He brings the separate plotlines together: he notices Hariye has disappeared and tries to tell Konstantine, but Konstantine has been abducted by his father so instead Levan tells Rusudan, who enlists Konstantine’s help to find Hariye

Rusudan

Name: Rusudan Lajareshvalë

Age/Pronouns: 24 when she died, she/her

Brief physical description: This Artbreeder portrait is pretty close to how I picture her:

Brief list of defining traits: Fantasy equivalent of a mob boss. Conquered Konstantine’s home-city and is currently ruling it in spite of Konstantine’s efforts to overthrow her. Has a braincell but almost never uses it. Possibly a monsterfucker.

Excerpt:

The stranger was sitting on the fence watching her horse graze when Hariye found her. She accepted the bread gratefully and produced a small knife from one of her pockets. Hariye suppressed his instinctive desire to recoil in alarm. All the same he watched very warily to make sure she put it back in her pocket after cutting the bread.

"Are you looking for someone?" he asked, mainly to find out if she knew the house's owners and would later let it slip to them that someone else was living there.

She shook her head. "On my way home. Got lost again. I already hear Jahan laughing about it." Seeing Hariye's confusion she explained, "My sister. She always thinks I will get lost."

She handed him back the loaf. He noticed there was something odd about her left hand. Although she could move it to hold her slice of bread, the fingers seemed stiff and she didn't close them fully around the slice.

Oddly that reassured him most of all. A partially crippled woman couldn't be dangerous. His mind instinctively went back to its default setting of viewing the world as if it was a fairy-tale. In his favourite stories, injured strangers asking for food were usually good fairies in disguise and would bless anyone who helped them. He doubted the stranger was a good fairy -- though considering the last few days nothing would surprise him any more -- but still.

"I'm Hariye," he said, judging that was a common enough Çarisarian name to avoid raising suspicions.

"Rusudan," the stranger said. "What are you doing here? You are very far from home."

In spite of his worries Hariye found himself pouring out an edited version of his story. He carefully avoided mentioning merfolk or scales. As she listened Rusudan took out the small knife again and peeled the orange, holding it against her chest with her bad hand to stop it rolling away. Her expression changed a few times from surprise to disbelief and finally to something like horror.

Trivia:

Is named after Rusudan of Georgia (yes, the person Ketevan’s based on)

Darejan’s sister

In a marriage-of-convenience/enemies-to-lovers situation with Konstantine

Is undead and trying (badly) to hide it

Unnamed character

Name: None yet

Age/Pronouns: Very old, he/him

Brief physical description: There’s body horror involved somewhere. That’s all I know so far. (This is actually a good description of how all my fantasy WIPs start: I don’t know the characters’ names or what they look like, but I’m damn sure there’s body horror somewhere.)

Brief list of defining traits: The main villain. Undead and mad about it. Wants revenge and doesn’t care how many people he kills in the process. Kidnaps Hariye out of a misguided effort to protect him.

Excerpt: None yet

Trivia:

He’s inspired by He Xuan from Tian Guan Ci Fu; they’re both ghosts who live on an island guarded by magic and are looking for revenge, but there the similarity ends

I haven’t decided yet if he’s a merman like Hariye or a half-dragon like Konstantine. Who knows, maybe I’ll make him half-mer half-dragon ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[Dev notes]

I won't be covering every bit of game news here unless it's super interesting and big but today's dev notes had a little bit of useful notes I am archiving here. Note that this is for the Japanese client. As mentioned on the official Twitter account, there is a banner redux for selected Ext. jobs. This includes Alice Over Ext, Mermaid Ext, Dorothy Ext, ect. In addition, purification tickets will be added as a login bonus during this story campaign. Story is 1/2 AP. Expect a new story chapter to drop. Akazukin/RRH and Briar/Sleeping Beauty is mentioned to be getting new jobs this month, on or around the 20th. Most def their Author jobs HNM jobs are being revisited and their skills upgraded starting in October because they will be able to reach level 16 through level 3 arcana. No other details are available right now. JP's next sin colo will also be around Dec-Jan 2023.

Big and Bad | Halloween | [ Wolf!Ubbe x Little Red!Reader ]

❛ summary | oh, you knew you shouldn’t you knew you couldn’t-- but what if you did?

❛ tags | anthro!themes, sexual overtones but i couldn’t be bothered to fuck, slightly dark ubbe? not really it’s in his nature, little red riding hood redux, easily distracted reader, gluttonous hvitserk.

❛ sy’s notes | it’s slightly musical in quality given my class in fairytales. i wouldn’t think too much into trying to justify little red’s actions, it’s sort of a trope in fairytales.

You know the way to Granny’s house.

It was along the same old cobblestone trail with its same old straight edge path into the forest. No fun divots, no flirting with anyone to see. It was less than a day’s journey if you could ever manage to keep your distracted mind straight; that was.

But there were bouncy bright red flowers along the way, ones that you’d talk to, given the chance. Today, you gave into that chance, skipping with your skirt slapping down your legs until you kneeled before them in leathery laced sandals among a patch of green, green grass.

“There’s a wolf in the woods,” said the first red rose. The second bounced into tension; her roots straining the plush green around her spine. “There’s a big bad wolf in the woods!”

The first two always incited the group, “The big bad wolf! The big bad wolf!”

“Who is to say there is a big bad wolf?” you said. “Maybe he is a good big wolf.”

“No no, no no,” the roses chimed. “Ubbe is a big bad wolf, a big bad wolf prowling the woods!”

Under normal circumstances, the roses were chipper to the excess peels of fruit you’d litter around their spines at the base of the grass. As you gathered up the peels among fresh, hot bread and a pat of bundled butter, you knew that they were afraid of something. Of course, something for flowers could be nothing for humans.

“Oh! You’re overreacting. Ubbe is a good wolf,” you told them. Squealing and receding, the flowers laxed. ”Little flowers?” Quiet as a stone in the pit of the forest, you set the peels about their feet when you felt heavy breath beating against the blood red ribbon on your neck.

“Little red,” the big bad wolf finely said. “Off to Grandmother’s again?”

You hopped up onto your sandals and patted down your gown. You tugged your corset finely down. The wolf stretched out his limbs and claws and stood at length, twisted legs and furry tail, flapping in the dull wind. You nod, stupidly against your mother Aelswith’s words.

“Grandmother Judith is sick in the deep dark woods.”

He turns his face toward the straight road; one of pins, so they said. You never knew the wolf to be a big bad wolf, maybe he was a misunderstood wolf. Then again, with his long claws tipped in red, like the ruddy long braid that slapped down his back, maybe he could be a big bad wolf. “Which road will you take?”

Your tongue smoothed over plush red lips.

“The one of needles,” you answered; not taking the one most traveled, nor the one your mother told you. The one of needles; winding slow through the forest, too slow for any good girl to take. You’d amble through the forest at your own pace.

Who needed your mother anyway?

“Then I’ll take the one of pins,” he said, his wicked smile moving in a curl.

He did so love a hunt.

A big bad wolf living in the woods had to have a little wolf to win what’s meant to be won. Ubbe tracked the short-lived trail across from the opening of the woods; to the deep of the woods where his little wolf ate bones and guts.

“Hvitserk, get up,” Ubbe called to the little golden-brown wolf. Hvitserk, rolling on his back, stood up curiously without his bone in hand. His little brother was a hungry wolf; with a hunger that could never be filled at any time. A hungry wolf; in another sense, his little hine.

“There’s a cabin at the edge of the woods.”

“At the edge of the woods?” Hvitserk asked, “The widow’s cabin?”

“That’s it; with an old hag inside.”

“Old Queen Judith?” Hvitserk trilled, clawing at his small line of hair dripping down his stomach into his thatch of thick hair. Ubbe swats his hand, leaving bright red makes on the side.

Fat as he was, old blood was bad blood and he knew his brother’s old mind. He’d bother with Hvitserk until the sunset outside. “You’re on the hunt,” Hvitserk noticed at once. It was stupid of Hvitserk, Ubbe thought. He’s always on the hunt for something new.

Princess-- is a taste he hasn’t had yet.

The sun has set behind the thicket of trees past your father’s castle. You don’t look back, not now and not often anyway, as busy as Father was. No hunting to be held on a day where love with Aelswith was to beheld. So you moved through the tall trees and curious concerned animals. Past warning flowers bouncing and brooding: turn back! This isn’t the right road!

But of course, it was the right road; it let you think with an open mind. Back to the wolf who stomped around the wicked forest where your grandmother’s cottage. Peeking through the brambles and tearing up your little hood, you at last found the little cobblestone cottage that night.

Rap, rap. Your knuckles clacked the oaken door.

“Hello? Grandmother? Let me in!”

“Come in,” rumbles, and rasps, and growls a not-so-grandmotherly voice behind the door. Your hands wound around the sheening golden knob and pulled open the busted lock. The door falls heavy behind your back, thick with a wolf’s heady musk inside.

“Grandmother?” you say; and know it’s a lie, there’s no grandmother waiting deep inside. So you set your picnic basket down and unlace your cut up little hood, shaking a thorn or two loose. You settle the bread by jars of slick and thick red blood. Raspberry jam does look so much like blood. “Grandmother are you there?”

“In the back room.”

Should you stay, should you go? You pluck up your gown, stepping around puddles of red, but not making a sound. You pounced over dark stains and touched the curtain of a door. Oh you do so know there’s a monster lying in wait but your belly titillates for just a little more. You draw the weighty red curtains out of your eye; encounter the fearful sight of the wolf sitting on the bed very much alive.

“Oh!” you cup your hand over your ruby red lips. “What big ears you have.”

The wry smile overtakes his face; as if he knows what you know. Your cheeks warm over in soft heat, drawing your finger over your chin; you move closer. Your sandals push up the floorboards in creak, creak, creak.

“The better to hear you with,” he musters. Still as a stone in the forest. His tail thwaps, the only marker of movement in a sodden room. You muster up more.

“What big eyes you have.”

He turns his head now, his darkened claws at his hip, drawing your attention to his naked chest. The ruddy brown hair trailing from his belly button to a pair of neatly constructed trousers; nothing is for naught on the big, bad wolf. Your eyes snap to, catching the big bad wolf in his act; his eyes are wrapped by a thin film of blue where his iris should be. Oh, he watches!

“Better to see you with.”

“What a big… teeth you have,” you moisten your lips and grip your skirt. A step closer and then another, and you’re before him. He’s the source of a heavy musk. One that isn’t as light as the sweet little wolf that you fed muffins to. It’s raw and wrong and right.

He’s silent then, but the wide smile parts to expose his angular canines. He moistens his lips. Oh that you couldn’t hear what haughty nothings he had to say, the better to taste you with.

Ask it, the wolf whispers. His fingers fall from his waist to fiddle with the fine lining of your corset. Your chest rises with dry air. Ubbe, the very big bad wolf indeed, rose his hand up to the expanse of your breast. His claws cut a clumsy and purposeful line across your chest. “O-oohh. Wha… what big hands you have.”

“Better to catch you with.”

And with that you jerk back, he jerks forward. His harsh hand drew you against the bloody wall, pressuring your throat, stripping the silent air from your soft throat. And god; the growing pressure of his claws compressing your neck-- it’s good. You struggle with his hand for air, drawing your nails on top of his long claws. The big bad wolf; the big bad wolf; you’ve been caught by the big bad wolf.

Roman wasn’t sure how well this would go over with Virgil. It was just, Virgil had been so down lately!

Patton and Logan had been distracted with Janus and Remus lately, they were coming around the commons more and it made Virgil visibly uncomfortable. Roman absolutely wasn’t enjoying his brother's company and Janus was an asshole so he refused to apologize first.

So the anxious trait had been hiding in his room when he wasn’t hiding in Romans room with him. Roman appreciated Virgil’s efforts to comfort him about the newest additions to the team, but Virgil was ignoring his own problems by focusing entirely on Roman.

Right now Virgil was hanging out in Roman’s room, hiding from Patton who had begun knocking on the Dark And Stormy’s door. They were currently watching The Little Mermaid absentmindedly while occasionally throwing one of Romans stuffed animals at the other. Roman had cried again earlier, while Virgil reminded him it was totally okay to cry, and now they were winding down.

Virgil was propped up against Roman’s side and was tapping on his thigh in the 4-7-8 pattern. Roman definitely appreciated it but he was okay now and had been for a bit, which both of them were aware of. The tapping was probably for Virgil's own benefit.

“Hey Virgil?” Roman asked, pulling Virgil more into his arms.

“Mmm?”

“I know I keep freaking out,” Virgil went to cut him off but Roman rushed out, “And that is okay and allowed. I was just, well you haven’t in a while?” he finished.

Virgil raised his eyebrow, “Do you want me to cry more Ro?”

Roman shoved him, “No, I just meant, Ugh. You are also doing poorly right now, I know so cause I’m not stupid despite what many beleive, but you aren’t letting anyone help you. And correct me if I’m wrong here Emo Nightmare, but I don’t think you’re letting yourself feel bad right now.”

“I… I’m not, I’m not avoiding my feelings Roman, I’ve tried that before remember?” Virgil added on at the end, trying for wry and funny and landing more heavily on scared and avoiding.

“Virgil I’m not saying you’re gonna, y’know, again. I’m just worried. I think it’s safe to say these additions bring up bad memories for you, and you don’t have to tell me. If you aren’t comfortable talking about it that’s fine. I just want to help.” Roman sighed and stood up.

“I know you don’t like surprises Virge, so I’ll just show you.” Roman then pulled a small, black kitten out of the imagination. “I figured this might help you if you ever felt bad but couldn't talk about it.” He rubbed the back of his neck, “If you don’t like it that’s fine I can put it back in the imagination, I just--”

Virgil picked up the kitten and pet her for a moment before placing her on the ground. He then tackled Roman with a hug, “Thank you Ro. You, you didn’t have to do that! I love her so much.” He cried into Roman’s shirt, “Does she have a na-name?”

“Nah stormcloud I figured you’d wanna name her.” Roman smiled, while he pet Virgil’s hair and the cat, which had taken to sitting directly next to them on the floor.

Virgil sniffed, before hugging the cat close to them, “You should help me name her, since she’s yours too.”

Roman nodded, before leaning back on the ground and pulling Virgil and the cat on top of him. “How about… Frankenstein's Monster, Franky for short? She can be your monster!” he laughed.

“That’s perfect Roman, thank you.” Virgil said.

“No problem Emo Nightmare, I’m here to help.”
