Sirius did not own matching glasses. After some time rummaging through the sideboard, he had finally returned to the table with one cut glass tumbler and a blue-rimmed, chipped cup.

He uncorked the bottle with a wet pop, poured two generous measures, and weighed up which drink it was more polite to give his friend.

Remus made the decision easy for him and took the cup.

Sirius smiled crookedly, picked up his glass and brought it to his lips.

"So what are we drinking to?" he asked.

Remus thought for a moment. He wasn't very good at making toasts. But Sirius was waiting.

"How about to old friends?"

Sirius looked thoughtful and rolled the glass in his hands.

"Hmmm...how about..." Sirius trailed off. He cocked an eyebrow and smiled ever so slightly. "...to old friends and new lovers?"

Remus felt himself flush. He told himself it was the heady scent of the alcohol from the cup before him. Sirius was teasing; making reference to some recent conquest no doubt that only James knew about. Perhaps it was the curvy, dark-eyed witch that Remus had noted lingered just a little after everyone else had left the meetings of the Order, often with a question or two that only Sirius could answer.

"Well, Mister Moony?" Sirius asked. His grey eyes hadn't left Remus' face since he'd suggested the toast. "What's it to be?"

Remus picked up his cup. He held his friends gaze. A moment passed and then -

"To old friends and new lovers," Remus said playfully, taking a sip.

Sirius laughed sharply, raised his glass in a toast and downed his drink.

Sometimes you need to read something twice to get it. You might need to watch a movie three times to understand it. You might have to have that album on repeat for a week until the lyrics make any sense. You're allowed to engage with it and can keep engaging with it until it means something to you. People will see a painting at a museum and laugh about not getting what the big deal is but like you can come back, you can see it at another time, and maybe that next time it'll be different for you. I'm of the belief the "media literacy crisis" would solve itself if more people just sat down and did it again. Watched, read, played, listened, etc like I don't think people are getting more ignorant necessarily I just think we're not glorifying personally replaying things nearly as much as we should be.

I Can’t Help But Wonder

Odysseus, who just violently and mercilessly murdered 108 or so men, who claims in the next song that he’s no longer a kind or gentle man, actively listens to Telemachus and kindly and gently responds to everything his son’s expressed.

Telemachus asks, “Am I like you? Am I strong like you? Will you embrace me? Will you love and accept me as yours?” He says, “I’ve felt so alone.”

And Odysseus claims him in a heartbeat, answering, “My son. My boy. My sweetest joy I’ve ever known. I embraced you twenty years ago. I’d do the impossible for you. I’d die for you.” He says, “Seeing the men here today, I can only wonder what you’ve been through for twenty years. My son, you’re already strong. You’re my own. You’re not alone. I’m home.”

Start helping with citizen science projects

What's a citizen science project? Basically, it's crowdsourced science. In this case, crowdsourced climate science, that you can help with!

You don't need qualifications or any training besides the slideshow at the start of a project. There are a lot of things that humans can do way better than machines can, even with only minimal training, that are vital to science - especially digitizing records and building searchable databases

Like labeling trees in aerial photos so that scientists have better datasets to use for restoration.

Or counting cells in fossilized plants to track the impacts of climate change.

Or digitizing old atmospheric data to help scientists track the warming effects of El Niño.

Or counting penguins to help scientists better protect them.

Those are all on one of the most prominent citizen science platforms, called Zooniverse, but there are a ton of others, too.

Oh, and btw, you don't have to worry about messing up, because several people see each image. Studies show that if you pool the opinions of however many regular people (different by field), it matches the accuracy rate of a trained scientist in the field.

I spent a lot of time doing this when I was really badly injured and housebound, and it was so good for me to be able to HELP and DO SOMETHING, even when I was in too much pain to leave my bed. So if you are chronically ill/disabled/for whatever reason can't participate or volunteer for things in person, I highly highly recommend.

Remember that actually, you can. And help with some science.
