RWBY V7 Ch13 Photo Review- The finale

A solid ending that wraps up V7 decently while still leaving good set up for V8.

The good:

Fights

Fights as usual were good. I liked Winter riding a griffin into battle, and I liked the power disparity between JNPR 2.0 and Neo when the writers forgot what power disparity meant last chapter. JNPR 2.0 was clearly no match for Neo, but they only managed to succeed because of their teamwork. The fights this volume were very, very well done. I hope they retain the same fight animation staff going forward.

More to this point, I thought that Winter or Penny would get the powers, and another Maiden showdown would happen in the Relic Room. I’m actually glad it didn’t. Having the fight stay in the hospital walls was nice. It was a way to force the fight to stay grounded (literally and figuratively) and focus more on cool animation moves rather than just magical beings flying around and smacking each other occasionally like V5 finale. They had a flying bit but it still managed to be grounded to the characters rather than just vague magical beings flying around. Penny’s obvious use of flight and Winter riding a griffin was true to who they are as combatants, and they don’t just rely on some magical plot device that makes them fly around.

James

James has been the strongest Character of this volume, and this chapter was the same. I really liked his quote “All great philosophical points that won’t Matter if Salem wins.” It shows his motivations well, outlines clearly his beliefs, and actually makes a decent argument for doing something that is morally wrong. It was also interesting to see the argument with Oscar go from 0 to 11 SUPER fast, as soon as Oscar accused him of acting out of fear and beginning to say “It’s what we do in fear that shows who we-“ as if to impugn James’ character because of his actions. It was shocking to see him shoot a kid, but his character is staunchly committed to carrying out his plan so it fits. And since Oscar didn’t die it’s still something that James can be redeemed from.

The good, but

Winter Maiden powers.

Fria’s final stand was really interesting to see. BUT if she was going to be so integral to stopping Cinder, it would have been nice to fully understand how these powers affected her life, who she was before and after she got the powers, and more importantly show what the powers are fully capable of. I hate that we never get to see flashbacks anymore, and the story now exclusively exists in the current day. Even Amber’s flashback was just to the day she was attacked, but at least we got to see how she landed in a coma. It’s frustrating we don’t develop anyone anymore with much-needed background and flashbacks, but obviously we have no time and 20 other characters to cram in and under-develop so…. *shrug*

Penny getting the winter maiden powers became kind of obvious as time went on, with as much development as she got this volume. However, I don’t totally hate it because it at least means they didn’t bring Penny back just to kill her again, and she’ll probably be an important character going forward. She may even be a big part of the FINAL battle against Salem, since I still believe that the final confrontation will involve having to get the Maidens altogether, PLUS the relics, plus Ruby the silver eyed warrior to beat Salem. I THOUGHT the writers would be kind of lazy and just find ways to eventually give the powers to team RWBY, but now I think this may not be the case

Cinder’s voice acting

Every bit of dialogue Cinder spoke was trash, but her screams of pain upon getting her arm cut off and growing it back, her screams of anguish upon losing the Winter maiden powers and being banished by Ruby and the team were really, really good! It shows that Jessica Nigri is capable of delivering good performances, but the directors and writers don’t give her good dialogue to say, nor do they pull from her a decent delivery in the lines she speaks.

Watts

Am I glad he’s not dead because I think he’s a great villain? Yes. But am I also annoyed he’s back because it negates Chapter 11? Also yes. So as it turned out, Chapter 11 accomplished nothing, and was ultimately undone by Chapter 12 and 13. At least Tyrian escaped custody because of his own cleverness (And Qrow’s idiocy). But we don’t have any idea how watts mysteriously survived being dropped into lava pits without aura, seemingly unscathed. James’ sacrifice of his arm was for nothing, and it’s SUPER TROPEY the whole “no body, no death” thing. I hate the writers played into that stupid cliché

The bad:

OMG Cinder die already!

I really appreciated Jessica Nigri trying her ass off, but the writers just REFUSE to give her a character. When she started talking I thought the writers were finally going to heed everyone’s complaints and give her some sort of character, but with each sentence I literally groaned louder and louder. No backstory, no motivation, just more cobbled-together edgelord lines about being hungry for power. We already know Cinder wants power- since volume 3. THIS ISN’T CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! Either get a character or die.

Ren

Ren sucked this volume. And it’s not fair to say he sucked, it’s more like the writing SUPER sucked. They kept having his emotions all over the place- sometimes he’s totally fine and then suddenly he’s SUPER angsty. They didn’t grow or develop it, they just kept randomly looping back to it. I get that V8 is a straight continuation of this volume, so they weren’t going to RESOLVE it, but we don’t even get a set up for these problems, we don’t understand what is happening whatsoever, and they didn’t seem to evolve. It’s just jarring, and him suddenly becoming dumb and thinking Neo/Nora was Nora so he can get hit in the face was just weird. He knew who it was, it was just probably some arbitrary reason for Ren to blame Nora for his inability to focus. *Groan*

Random thought: If the fight between JNPR 2.0 and Neo was just going to end with Neo taking the lamp- why did she even stick around to fight in the first place when she had the lamp before Oscar punched her?

Overall: 7.5/10. It was solid. The character’s actions actually made sense this episode, and no one did anything super stupid just for plot’s sake. The set up for volume 8 was good while still wrapping up the story of volume 7 (I had a weird feeling that the Winter powers would be a cliffhanger but settling on Penny was nice, and RWBY on the run was a nice ending to how things unfolded).

The chapter was slightly hindered by good things having huge drawbacks, like Fria ending up an important climax dues ex Machina despite lack of development, and Watts just coming back again because...of course.

Unpopular opinions for V8:

JNR should leave

JNR should head to Vacuo for reinforcements in V8 and leave the cast. I think they’ve peaked in usefulness, and now Oscar seems split off and trying to do his own thing they especially won’t matter. It will give the writers time to develop RWBY and Penny and Oscar. They were severely minimized this volume and it didn’t hinder the story at all, so we can actually have them doing their own thing and we can occasionally check on them without missing much. With Ren’s “issues” I doubt they’ll just leave for volume 8 but I wish they would

Qrow needs to go, too- it looks like he will be a martyr and be locked up in V8, which I would love. If not HE needs to head out to Vacuo to try and get reinforcements. I’m done caring about his character. He’s a one-dimensional pit of sadness that is becoming boring to watch. We actually saw a glimmer of hope that he would become something other than a writer punching bag, but it didn’t happen and the writers insist on just finding new, contrived, and sadistic ways to continually torture him. Oh look- a friend to cancel out your bad luck? BAM, DEAD! It’s getting old, so I just hope to not really see him next volume.

It turns out Salem has been lagging behind because she was picking out her prom dress.

So the Direct in Review:

Overwatch for Switch: meh. Nobody really asked for this.

Luigi's Mansion 3: I'm honestly excited for this one. Let's the hope the individual floors aren't just tiny boxes. I'm definitely looking forward to the pirate ship level. I do hope I have some cash around Halloween

Super Kirby Clash: it's alright I guess. Seems weird to have 4 Kirbys and not Dedede or Meta Knight but whatever

Trials of Mana HD: I kind of want it, but I never played the others.

Return of Obra Dinn: eh. It's been out on PC a while I think.

Little Town Hero: ima be real, I'm a bit sour at this game because they definitely took time away from SwSh to work on this, and it definitely shows because it does look good. More info is needed tho. Tobyfox was just hanging out with Nintendo I guess

Banjo in Smash: don't have smash, but I do love Sakurai's laid back approach to explaining Banjo and Spiral Mountain. Tobyfox kicking Sakurai's ass in Smash is hilarious to me. Now if only Microsoft showed as much love to Banjo as Sakurai did. Hmmmmm.

Terry in Smash: okay? Funny trailer, but I don't really care much. Maybe they'll add girl Terry for another skin for shits n giggles.

More Smash DLC: Byleth is definitely coming at some point, as is a pokemon character or Little Town Hero character. Gotta get that promotion in babey.

Link's Awakening: cute

DQXIS: y'all can't do this to me I ALREADY BEAT THE GAME ON THE PS4! You can't just add new story and essentially an entirely 2d remake of the game on a new system! My wallet hates you. Maybe they'll actually add the reorchestrated music this time around.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions:#FE: I do want this. I've very much been wanting this. I just haven't gotten it yet because I knew it'd be ported to Switch with more shit in it AND I WAS RIGHT. Also "See-ah-da"??? I thought it was "ky-ay-da"?

Deadly Premonition 1 port: neat

DP 2: I was JUST talking to my friends about a New Orleans trip around Halloween. Like WTF. Kinda neato but hopefully they can escape the uncanny valley from the first

Divinity, Original Sin 2 Def Edition: eh... ok?

Doom 64: someone needs to tell mister Beth Esda to shorten his speel. Just say Doom 64 for Switch, BAM, move on. Your speech ain't that important and neither are your weird hand movements

Rogue Company: as much as I like the idea of customization, its literally the same as Fortnite or any other fps released in the past 10 years.

Pokemon SwSh: I've got sour feelings at Game Freak and The Pokemon Company International for the mistreatment of their franchise, but I do like Camp and Cramaran, plus whatever that weird fish is. I am delighted to see customization improvements, and there's definitely enhanced animations: but not for for the pokemon. The player looks lively af, but the pokemon still rotate so stiffly. The currydex is... interesting. It does look delicious anyway but I would prefer if they just kept the simple Refresh feature from SM. Decent overall, but they need to show more improvement by next month to change my mind. Also... Polteageist... no. I do not want to drink your bodily fluids.

SNES ports with Rewind functionality: decent idea. Where's Earthbound?

Tetris 99: booooringggg

Mario & Sonic: okay look, when they first started this for the Wii, pretty much all fans agreed this wasn't the crossover we wanted. So why are we still doing this? Why not an actual cross over game with Adventure 2 and Odyssey gameplay to keep things simple? At the least, the 2d stuff is original.

Daemon X Machina: actually looks fun. I really want it.

Jedi Knight 2: so weird, but cool.

The Witcher 3: nothing new but impressive, moving on.

Ass Cred Rebel: Ass Flag and Rogue Ass: decent. I wonder if Freedom Cry will be included? 4 is definitely the best

Dauntless: interesting, if only it weren't just online.

Just Dance: look, another party game for friends I don't have.

GRID Autosport: meh

Farming Simulator 20: we're still doing this eh?

Ni no kuni: Wrath of the White Witch: shit yes, I actually want this.

NBA 2k20: boring just like every other crappy ea sport game, next

Call of Cthulu: interesting I guess. I wonder if this will have Labo VR or 3d rumble compatibility?

The Outer Worlds: neat

Devil May Cry 2: okay, I know there's probably a reason, but why is Nintendo glossing over 1's in favor of their sequels? I guess I get it if the first ones were bad but still. Neato tho.

Vampyr: this was kind of underwhelming to the point that I don't remember it at all

AC New Horizons: oh to be an AC fan. I wish I could get into these games. They look so appealing from the outside. I just don't handle non combat games that well. But hey, I know plenty of friends that will love this.

Xenoblade Chronicles def Edition: also another one I knew was coming eventually. Hopefully they include Japanese audio.

Out of all of these, Luigi's Mansion 3, Ni no kuni, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Daemon X Machina, and Xenoblade Chronicles interest me the most.

I'm finding Pokemon is TRYING to grab at me, but I'm still not even 70% sold on it and they have to announce some changes or proper information on Home before I change my mind.

Incidentally, Missing from this list but also coming to the Switch in a month or so: Digimon Cyber Sleuth 1 AND 2. Really good, check em out.

Also missing: Metroid, FE 3 Houses Expansion Pass info, BoTW 2, and a rumored Mario Odyssey thing I heard a vague rumor about.

3. OCEAN'S DEPTH.

Genre: marine biologist AU

Pairing: Bambam x reader

Word count: 2.2K

0. Synopsis // 1. Whales // 2. Dolphins. // 3. Ocean's depth.

(( I apologise for the long wait, it was not planned at all. Uni is in full swing, I am in my final year so the thesis writing is giving me a little headache. I hope this part will still be somehow enjoyable! Please let me know your thoughts! ))

- - - OCEAN'S DEPTH - - -

You were tapping your foot against the warm pavement the next day in the docks. The weather was still shiny, pleasant and ever so welcoming.

You were supposed to have a good mood, considering all of these aspects.

You felt like a piece of a rotten tuna tin.

Exactly like rotten tuna tin, whatever it was supposed to mean.

"Where is he?!" you shouted angrily to your two colleagues who were looking bored and kept murmuring among each other, snickering quietly.

"Calm down," said Jaebeom and pressed the side button on his iPhone to check the time. He pushed it back into his back pocket of his jeans. "His late just 15 minutes."

Jackson laughed in disbelief. "Just 15 minutes."

You glued your strict stare at the cheerful man and he just shook his head, not bothering to talk to you more.

"Well, if he isn't coming in five more minutes, we are leaving."

"But boss, even if we leave in five minutes we will still be there 30 minutes early," replied Jaebeom in a diplomatic tone.

Jackson snickered again.

You sighed, combing your hand through your already messy hair. "Are you making fun of me? Do you think this is funny?"

"No, not at all, " replied Jaebeom, coughing away his giggle.

"Look, " you started, holding your hand out." You can think whatever you want to, but the fact is that we should be there a little bit earlier to make sure everything goes smoothly. As you can see, this duck head is late anyway. This is why we have to be there a little bit earlier."

"A little bit, " mumbled Jackson to himself.

Jaebeom started to laugh loudly, not bothering to hold back anymore.

As much as you liked to see your forever cold and reserved colleagues laugh, you did not appreciate it one bit at the moment.

" Shut up, Jackson, " you snapped. " You don't let me breathe even for a little while right? You always have to push me down."

He looked at your hurt face and before he could argue in any possible way, from the distance you hear rushed steps and a very tired looking Bambam. He was trying to adjust his bag on his shoulder as his hair was a big mess.

"I'm here! I'm coming! Oh, thanks for waiting for me!" he breathed as he finally arrived.

"Good." You turned around and marched forward towards the kindergarten that you hated so much at the moment. Youngjae was going to pay a big price for letting his mouth talk so much.

If Jackson were a dog, he would have his ears pressed to the sides of his head, his tail between his legs and lowered head. There wasn't a minute when you wouldn't fight these days despite how hard and cold you both were to each other.

He still wouldn't tell you what was pissing him off so much about you and you certainly didn't want to ask about that kind of thing. This way you were aware you were annoying him and that was more than enough.

You all made your way to the kindergarten and to your pleasure, you were quickly ushered in, the kids already waiting.

"Soon is never soon enough, Dr Im," you muttered to Jaebeom. Before he could retort something too sophisticated for you, you turned quickly to your team, mostly focusing your attention to your two colleagues rather than Bambam who was smiling the whole time as he was observing the kids' drawings. "Alright, we literally have like five minutes to discuss whose gonna talk about what-"

"Y/N," you heard your name. Youngjae's mum was standing next to you, her frame tall and her facial features kind. "I'm afraid you will have to go in now. The kids are waiting and they are restless."

"Yes but-"

"Alright, then there is no time to waste!" shouted Bambam, suddenly paying attention and soon he was entering the little hall kids had there for their performances.

Jackson snickered as he followed Jaebeom and BamBam. "So much for authority, huh."

A tiny growl escaped your lips, startling you. Damn. Now the game was on. You would ruin Jackson for sure.

The kids greeted you politely, most of them curiously looking at the blonde haired Bam.

While Jaebeom looked uncomfortable and seemed like dying inside from the attention, Jacskon was also naturally swayed with the kids as he was smiling brightly, waving at them.

"Everyone, let me introduce you these marine biologists," started Youngjae's mother, her voice a pleasant baritone. "Dr Y/N is The leader of the marine research institute here in Mokpo and Dr Jackson and Dr Jaebeom are her colleagues, great experts. Dr Bambam is a world famous marine biologist from Thailand so make sure to treat him with respect."

"Are we considered trash next to him?" muttered Jackson as he had his bright smile plastered on his face.

You bumped your elbow into his ribs quite hardly which made him wince with surprise. He widened his eyes at you, but you had a stern look already focused on the wall opposite you.

"Now I will let our biologists take over the talking and please participate actively!"

Youngjae's mum nodded at you with a supportive smile and you made sure to thank kindly before reaching for the microphone. "Hello, everyone! I'm Y/N and I would like to start with a question for all of you. Please raise your hands if you want to talk, alright?" you asked with a thumb up but when you didn't get any feedback you laughed awkwardly. "Alright! So, what do you understand under marine biology or marine research?"

You had a weird feeling these questions were not exactly meant for such a young audience as these four-year-olds who barely knew their mother's name but you were serious about doing your job professionally.

One little boy in the front row raised his hand shyly. "I think you work with dolphins."

You swayed your head from side to side. "Yes, could be also."

"That's totally true!" exclaimed Bambam. "And you know what? Let me tell you something that I'm sure you didn't know about whales." The way he was talking made kids much more interested compared to the poker faces they were giving you.

"The whales are these veeery big animals, right?" asked Bambam, motioning with his hands. "We also call them mammals.They can be much bigger than this whole kindergarten! And the important thing to know about them is that their poop is needed for the ocean's ecosystem."

You snapped your head to Bambam, not liking the direction he was going. On the other side Jaebeom and Jackson were also listening as intently as the kids.

"So how exactly does this work, hm? Well, when the whales poop it's really big and can create a big mess." Kids started to laugh, supported by Bambam. "Their poop contains lots of important microscopic creatures that are beneficial for other fish! For instance, phytoplankton is a crucial part of the ocean's ecosystem and some underwater animals live off of it."

"Eeeeeeeeew," kids whined but laughed loudly, scrunching up their noses.

BamBam laughed too, extremely pleased with himself. Jackson and Jaebeom had a light grin, also liking the playful way Bam introduces whale's poop.

"Another thing we have to watch out for are coral reefs," started Jackson his part. The k god it was an appropriate topic. "Do you know what are coral reefs right?"

There was a lady sitting by with a laptop who screened pictures on the big wall so the kids could see. She typed quickly into Naver search engine the keywords and all of you were met with colourful fish and massive corals. It made you smile right away and Jackson went up to the picture and tried to simplify the information about the coral reefs.

“They are extremely endagered. You know Nemo, right? Well, he also lives in these coral reefs. However, Nemo cannot cope with warm water. That is what causes these reefs to die out - warmed up temperatures.”

All of you continued with your presentations, trying to engage children as much as possible and at the end having a nice little quiz (with a rewarding present too!).

Jaebeom was breaking jokes about sea horses that you tried not to cringe about but thanks to Bambam, he supported every idea. It almost seemed like he knew only the silly stuff and not the important information.

After you were finished, you stopped Bam on your way out, so that Jackson and Jaebeom wouldn't hear you.

"Can we go diving today?" you spilled.

If Bambam was surprised, he didn't show it. Instead a signature smile spread across his face. "Well of course , boss. But I made a reservation at this five star restaurant you have in this little town so I will go there first."

You sighed, trying not to show your frustration. "Look. You shouldn't eat before diving especially not with the depth of our diving. Secondly, I thought you came here to help, not try all these so call five star restaurants."

BamBam laughed, tapping your shoulder. "should I cancel because of you, Y/N?"

"Exactly my idea," you smiled, walking past him.

He was quick to grab your hand though. "How will you refund me this loss?"

"What? What do you mean?"

"Well, you know how important I hold my luxury living. Since I'm going to sacrifice it for you, I hope it will be rewarding at least." His hand trailed over your arm, teasing you.

By now you knew better than to take his ideas seriously. "Well, heated kissing under the water, how does that sound."

Bam laughed tapping you shoulder. "Good enough, girl, good enough."

You couldn’t believe your own words. Your own mouth. Your own tongue. heated kissing under the water?! There was a sudden urge for you to slap yourself as you were heading to the docks to meet Bambam. How on earth could be this cheesy?

You knew Bam was not serious half of the time and even though he did tell you some good things about the marine biology and how to lead this entire expedition, there was just something slightly off. Whenever someone had a really professional question, he would suddenly go quiet, dissing the question with a simple answer that didn’t really add to your knowledge.

When you entered the docks with all your equipment, you were surprised to find him already there. He seemed deep in thought, his uniform already on.

You paused for moment, thinking what to do.

Set your goals straight...

There was no doubt you needed this guy for you to find the creature. He had all the knowledge. Apparently...

“How was it when you found out people know you?” you walked towards him, a challenging smile on your burned face. “And why would you talk about whale poop anyway.”

Bambam smirked as he turned towards you, his full attention now on you. “How else do you want to get the kids attention if not with something silly.”

“Good for you it was a true fact what you said,” you replied, putting on your swimming gear.

“I only say things that are true,” he murmured, eyeing you up.

A blush creeped up into your cheeks as you zipped up the uniform on your back. You both checked whether the equipment you had was prepared for the dive. “I sure hope so.”

“So the kissing part,” he started.

You held out your hand quickly. “Stop right there. I didn’t mean any of that.”

“And here I thought you liked me.”

“I do,” you said without thinking and immediately closed your mouth in pure shock. What did you just say?!

“You do?” he asked, his eyes full of hope.

You blinked a few times, hiding behind one of the oxygen bombs. “What? I mean I like the weather today.”

Bambam burst out into fit of laughters. “You are actually super cute, you know that? You play all this hardly approached girl but you are such a softie.”

“That is some good load of whale poop,” a doubtful laughter was the only thing you could let out. “Anyway, let’s go already. It’s gonna be super dark in a few.”

“Yes, that’s the point of night diving.”

As you walked passed him, you turned sharply, facing him. “Listen, Bambam. Whatever it is you are thinking, stop it. And just so you know, I have my eyes on you.”

He wiggled his eyebrows at you, obviously not taking you seriously but you just sighed and headed towards the little stairs leading into the water. It wasn’t until you reached the edge and you slipped on it that you felt his hands around your waist. You yelped feeling him pulling you backwards. It made him slip almost as well but he managed to keep a strong stance making sure you are steady.

You stayed like that for a few more seconds before your heart beat could simmer down to a normal rate. Slowly turning around, you saw Bambam’s gentle face. His eyes were already on you when you met his gaze. His hand reached out and slowly pushed your messy hair out of your face before his index finger slipped under your chin, sending goosebumps down your spine.

You didn’t realise you were holding your breath until his face was inching closer to yours.

Oh no.

Kingdom Hearts 3 impressions

So, uh, I will ONLY be talking about stuff up until the very start of the second World, and only AFTER the break. Kingdom Hearts 1 was an incredibly important and influential piece of media when I was growing up. I was writing fic based on Smash Bros. just before KH rolled onto the scene was like, “Yo, Disney and Final Fantasy, BAM, fuckin’ random? fucking RADDDD” and I was all about it. You had FF characters remixed with OCs remixed with Disney characters, and the villains were all crossing over to form the League of Bad Cartoons, it was a great time. And then Nomura realized his gamble was a win and decided to waste the next 15 years of everyone’s time shoving in every trope he liked, every IDEA that felt “cool” together into a mish mash of whatever the hell this “narrative” has become. Suffice it to say, I’ve got beef with Kingdom Hearts as a “story.” It just occurred to me today that a big part of this is thematic/tonal.

But it’s also VERY rare, maybe even unprecedented, for a piece of media like Kingdom Hearts 3 to come around. For years, then months, then weeks, then days, I told myself, “It’s not real, that game doesn’t exist, I won’t believe it until I’m literally playing it” and just could not be bothered to be hype or interested, if only because Nomura’s “vision”, from my perspective, warped something I admired in my youth into a fucking train wreck, leaving me very little to feel emotionally invested in outside of Aqua and by proxy the two lads she is trying to protect. (also I GUESS I’m slightly invested in Axel/Xion/Roxas.../Namine? for similar reasons now that I think about it?) Well, guess what? Kingdom Hearts VERY WELL might be real, and I very well might be about three hours into it. And for all of the beef I have with the plot, I am fucking relieved that those three hours have felt/sounded good, as a video game. NOW we’re gonna talk about the first World. --

When I first heard that Olympus was gonna be the first World in KH3 I was disappointed and BAFFLED. We’re visiting that place a THIRD time? And why THAT World? Turns out, there’s actually some substantial thematic relevance and that’s actually A-OK, not to mention that starting with a familiar world after ALL OF THIS TIME is not such a bad way to kick things off. First off, structurally, I actually really enjoyed the way this world played out. Two of my biggest problems with KH as a video game series have been that worlds feel like empty, vacant, haunted houses, and that said worlds are usually small and linear with a lot of pointless backtracking. Olympus fixes all of this. There are NPCs. Actual fucking PEOPLE in this world. Sure, they’re just people in danger, calling for help, but they’re THERE for once! And they have vocies! EVERY line of dialogue (except for like one “plot” moment) has actually been voiced so far! About time. Also. This World is not as linear as most KH Worlds. In fact, it help more open and dynamic than ANY World in any KH game so far, not to mention it featured three, THREE (wtf) unique and distinct types of settings. The city, the mountain, and Olympus. Nice. ALSO also. The music. We’ve been here before. We KNOW that Olympus theme from earlier games. And as you traverse the city, up the mountain, you hear this more sweeping, movie-like version, and it’s like “oh whoa nice” aaaaand then you get TO Olympus and it KICKS in, the old song, up to modern snuff. That was great. That was a thing that really helped convey “Kingdom Hearts is back, baby.” The World was big, compared to typical KH worlds. It had multiple nooks and crannies to explore, side-paths to go down, treasure to find hidden away. There is a LOT of verticality. Running up walls and seamlessly hopping over things in the environment makes traversal more enjoyable than it ever has been. Even though a lot of the World is technically a linear path it’s not structured like a path. Going off and exploring rewards you with items and the like, and the World is big enough to actually feel like you have places to poke around in. Having said this, WHY is there no...map? Like. You literally COLLECT Maps from Chests like you used to. But near as I can tell, there’s no way to pull up an actual MAP, to seer where the main path is, to see where the side paths are. It’s boggling. Maybe the game has the option hidden away somewhere but if so, that’s just silly. And if there’s just no actual map option at ALL that’s just...baffling. There were barely any load times for how much SPACE there was to navigate, and things looked very shiny and pretty, and ran at a smooth 60 fps MOST of the time. Tech specs aren’t everything, but when your brand is built on “looking pretty” it sure af helps when you bring scale AND a smooth framerate to match. It’s weird, and a bit jarring, sometimes in a good way, to see all of this stuff rendered in modern tech. Stuff looks...a little too plasticy a lot of the time, (which actually ought to pay off when we get to Toy Story?) but the environments so far feel rich and vast and detailed all at once in a way we just have never seen the series, because we’re basically jumping from PS2-level tech to PS4. So that difference in production is more noticeable for the wait -- I just wish things looked a bit more...I guess cel-shaded? Like the original trailer. Things (specifically, characters) look a little too flat/plasticy at times, for how pretty things are. Combat seems to be as flashy as ever and I’m sure I’ll feel differently as I get further in and unlock more options but it’s still too easy, simple, and mashy for my tastes. I am HOPING we get more moments that require quick reflexes and specific tactics like the harder moments of older KH games. The amusement rides mechanic is...weird. It’s given NO context in universe. And they last a little too long/feel too overpowered for how easy they are to utilize. Similarly, there are frequently seemingly random party-member tag-team attacks that...just seem like “press triangle to win” moves. I wish they entailed more interaction, and/or felt less common/random. I like the IDEA of these kinds of moves, especially ones that change your controls/method of attack for a few seconds (like Hercules’ team attack) but the execution makes them feel too cheap and easy to abuse, with combat that’s ALREADY skewing on the “too easy” side for the genre. I like the “form change” for keyblades, and that you can swap keyblades in the middle of a fight. Really hoping this allows for some good tactical stuff later -- buuuuut that would also require the game to ASK OF ME to do more than “mash X,” which KH as a brand typically does not do... Characters SPEAK in reaction to gameplay moments, when you initiate things in the environment, etc. It’s a nice touch that makes them feel more like characters in an RPG. Donald and Goofy are ALWAYS in the party, alongside the Disney member(s). NICE. Maybe KH3 is putting its best foot forward, but overall, I was pleasantly surprised with Olympus. It single-handedly corrected MOST of the issues I’ve ever had with Kingdom Hearts level design. I only hope the momentum keeps going. Moving on, Gummi Ships. What little I played is easily the best they have every been. I love having an open world with optional places/fights to explore, while still giving me those shmup-like bursts of action. The Gummi Phone seems like a fun mechanic, and taking selfies/photos makes SENSE for this game because of how visually detailed it is -- but the pleasant surprise was how I took selfies with Donald and Goofy and they REACTED to it, starting to pose and commenting on it. On the other hand, the loading screen being nonsensical “social media” posts from KH characters...I don’t like it thanks go away. x’D I’ve spent only a few minutes in Twilight Town and INSTANTLY I am so much more enamored than I ever was in previous games. Not just due to the bump up in visual fidelity, but also because -- GASP -- NPCs??? Are you trying to tell me this is an actual TOWN that people LIVE IN?? Holy shit, Kingdom Hearts, I never knew! For all of this stuff I liked, though, KH3 is still...a KH game. Which means after you get through the intro, after you gear up to land in Olympus, the game flashes the title: “Kingdom Hearts II.9″ ...no. Just no. Fuck. Stop doing this shit. Whenever an Organization 13 member (or EX member) shows up and starts speaking all cocky in riddles like the flamboyant anime jackass they are, whenever Mickey starts dead-ass blathering about weird nonsense whenever the plot HAS to acknowledge “oh right Sora golly gawrsh ya FURRGOT this random bullshit a-FYUCK better shove this expository throwaway dialogue right in here before we go n’ furrget again!” whenever Kairi continues to be irrelevant and invisible after ALL THIS TIME whenever Rikku has to say some obligatory thing about his darkness or his copy of himself or Ansem or whatever whenever the plot informs Sorta/Dornold/Goffy about another convoluted ridiculous THING that we already know about and they MAYBE already know about because it is OBLIGATED to because this game’s entire purpose has become to “wrap things up already Nomura” I am reminded of the freshly opened scar on my heart from how much SHIT this series has dragged itself through for...what? Nothing worth all of this, IMO. Thankfully, these moments feel less and less pressing in KH3′s opening hours than they certainly could be, though I’m sure the closing hours of the game -- once they’ve tidily gotten all of that silly, inconsequential DISNEY CONTENT out of the way (even though that’s the BULK of the game environments and HALF of the series’ identity/purpose) -- those closing hours will surely be packed to the gills with all of this crazy crap. Maybe by then I might finally care enough to finally get the catharsis I’ve waited over a decade for. I dunno. I’m just relieved the game looks, plays, sounds, and feels as good as it does so far. EDIT: almost forgot to mention this since it hasn’t actually come up yet BUT I picked up a BUNCH of “ingredients”??? Like. FOR COOKING??? Which is one of my all-time favorite mechanics in a video game?? (thanks Paper Mario) So I’m at LEAST excited to see what THAT is all about.

Every time. Every time I think this episode, or even this show is at its worst it manages to make me even more nauseous. This is disgusting. She is literally being assaulted as a joke, after she was turned into a pretty near-corpse, after she had the climax of her taken from her and given to Jojo, after both Cars and Jojo made fun of her for being a weak woman, after they established she was the strongest Ripple user on the planet. Lisa Lisa had any respect taken away from her and was turned into a sexy plaything and pardon me for being blunt but how the FUCK can anyone write all of this and not feel, what is the word, bad? Nauseous? Guilty? Any sort of voice that says “hm gee maybe we do not need all of this to happen...” or “Hm maybe anyone respects her ever” or “HM MAYBE WE SHOULD LET LISA LISA HAVE HER MOMENT OF COOL THAT SHE SUFFERED THROUGH THE ENTIRE SEASON FOR”

This is not even the first time someone gets casually sexually assaulted this is at LEAST the FIFTH this season

I am trying so hard to put these thoughts into words. I am mortified. Honest to fuck I thought she would die and it would be over. First I thought her being made fun of for being a woman was the end. Then I thought her being stabbed was the end. Then I thought her being left to die was the end. Then I thought her being called a prop was the end. I

There is such a world of a difference between calling sexual assault bad and becoming so incredibly comfortable portraying it in such horrible ways. And given how frequently this has happened and how protagonists were complicit in it (Jojo threatens to assault a girl to get her to move. Jojo watching girls get assaulted at gunpoint in an EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLY LONG SEGMENT OF THEM CRYING and using it as an opportunity instead of trying to help or caring at all! Caesar casually assaulting a passerby! Not quite nearly as bad but Jojo trying to peak on Lisa Lisa! Stroheim forced women to lick his face and now is getting portrayed as a hero while Lisa Lisa is faced with THIS)

I have no idea how to put this into fucking words. I have no idea what words are appropriate to how to express how appalled I am.

Every single woman in this season is either used in terms of being sexy or to be assaulted. Except for Erina, because she was already assaulted last season. Here is a rundown of every woman with more than a few seconds of screen time. In order. And if I missed any, let me know.

-Woman in the cafe. Jojo threatens to assault her.

-Journalist who got kidnapped. She got kidnapped, had a man shove his hand in her mouth, had her molar ripped out in the most sexual way possible, and was left screaming in pain after Jojo called her an ugly bitch.

-The women being forced to shave Stroheim. The one that messed up is forced to lick his face while her friends are powerless to help.

-The women trying to get back into their town. They were forced to strip and were molested at gunpoint. And then Jojo responded with this shit

-Caesar’s date. She exists only to be used as a kissing dummy while showing off to Jojo.

-The tourist girl. Caesar grabbed her, forcibly kissed her, hypnotized her, and then Jojo shoves a fucking bird in her mouth.

-Lisa Lisa is introduced in terms of not being cute. Called ugly. Repeatedly insulted for being a woman. Repeatedly had her entire life disrespected. Had her arc taken away. Jojo tried to peep on her naked. She got stabbed and left for death, she got molested while dying.

-Susie Q. Love interest. Almost all dialogue is either flirting or her being attacked, controlled, tortured, and used as a pincushion.

There are TWO new named women in this season and those are Lisa Lisa and Susie Q. And I bet you anything that if Jojo did not need a love interest that Susie Q would not exist in the first place or would have been killed off.

This show is so hyper sexual in fifty different uncomfortable ways, and so...horrible? People discuss the assault right? Nobody considers that entertainment right? Am I the only one who feels sick to the stomach watching this? Am I the only one that wants a girl to have a good day for once? There are no girls having a good day here. There is nothing positive happening to any of these women aside from Susie Q looking forward to presumably marry Jojo, and that is only happening because I presume he needs to have a son somehow.

I received a lot of messages that were hesitant to admit that this show is misogynist. Some said it was, but that it was appropriate for the 80s. I hate to break it to you but assault is not appropriate for the 80s, and THIS MUCH SEXUAL ASSAULT IS IN A SHITTY LITTLE LEAGUE OF ITS OWN. And that aside, women are not a new invention! They have existed for quite a bit longer than anime!

There are hentai. They exist. They have assault in them. But I cannot think of anything that is considered a “classic” that has everything listed here going on at once without being considered some form of porno. This is violent and gory and violent against women and has so much stuff that judging from the reactions I have been receiving these past few days, have been completely disregarded by the bulk of the fandom. So here comes my speech again.

I do not give two hecks if you like this show. You can love it until the moment you die, more than anything else in the world. But NO amount of love is going to cancel out all of the horrible and terrible things that are portrayed. And NO amount of love should exempt anyone from acknowledging these things. The fact that I feel physically ill watching every shitty segment aside, there needs to be more conversation critical about this.

Everyone needs to examine the things they enjoy, examine their faults, and acknowledge them. And make it perfectly clear that some jokes are not funny, and probably should be tolerated a tiny bit less in popular media! And before yet another person makes a joke about how all anime is like this, no! No the fuck it is NOT! I cannot think of anything that has less respect for women without advertising itself as being a horny anime! And absolutely nothing else comes close with this big of a following, with this bad of writing, and this little respect for women! And yes I have in fact watched plenty of anime before! Including SAO!

And when I say respect for women, I am somehow less concerned about how Lisa Lisa’s arc was handled, which I never thought was possible, and more concerned looking back on every single time I felt uncomfortable beyond words and almost too uncomfortable to watch. There is so much sexual assault, SO much sexual assault that is just brushed aside, and apart from the number of times that has happened, just the way that these scenes are animated is even worse. The segments are long. In your face. Uncomfortable beyond everything. Personal. After so much high speed action, some of the only times the show slows down from talking or fighting is for one of these numerous assault segments. The body language is violent. The women are horrified and miserable and powerless and often crying. And then every single time the women are left to suffer, and the viewer is forced to watch. And then every single time, these events are moved on from. Jokes are made about them, even.

In a show that was described to me as BAM! BAM! BAM! ENTERTAINMENT! ENTERTAINMENT! FUNNY! TURN YOUR BRAIN OFF! HIGHEST FORM OF ANIME! to see assault played off as a joke, and I cannot believe I can even say this but THIS MUCH ASSAULT played off as a joke, this

This is definitely groundbreaking I would say! It probably did do a lot of things for the first time! But I cannot, at all, under ANY circumstance understand ANYONE watching so much happen time and time again and not feel...sick? Uncomfortable at the very least? Do people who love Jojo love to watch those scenes too? I seen so much discussion of Jojo, so much beyond most anime I have seen discussed online, and I have never ever ever ever ever ever ever seen anyone discuss, mention, hint at, or acknowledge any of the sexual assault. I am caught so off guard here and that makes it worse. Usually with shows people say “yeah it has some shitty stuff, BUT” or something along those lines when introducing it to someone but nobody has ever acknowledged any of these things, and considering how powerfully horrifying each of these scenes are, I am so, so, so, so confused. I was not prepared for any of this. I expected fighting. I expected poses. Betrayed is another word I would use for how I feel right now.

I have felt this sick watching anime maybe once or twice before but nothing has ever come close to watching all of this. Please. Please. Please. Anyone. Anyone out there. Tell me I am not the only one that finds it all so difficult to watch. Tell me there is discussion about this. Tell me the sexual assault is acknowledged in the fandom.

I need to take a break before pressing play again and I am not looking forward to it.

Halloween Days 5: The Cristalon Sisters

One evening in early October, there was a house. It was a fair-sized house-alright; technically, you could say it was a very small mansion-with two stories and a single room with served as the third floor. This big house or tiny mansion was hidden in the middle of a forest so wild and untameable that it was practically a jungle, at least from a mortal's point of view. And speaking of mortals, they knew nothing of this house, which was the reason why it was smack-dab in the middle of the forest: to keep the mortals away from the house's residents, and to keep the residents away from the mortals. However, one of said residents was looking to change that last bit.

Finn, his wolf-ears on high alert, tiptoed down the stairs on furry claw-tipped feet. When he reached the ground floor (after checking one last time to make sure he wouldn't be pounced on in the next five seconds), he headed for one of the many armoires and opened it wide. After waving away a few bats, indignant of having been disturbed, he found what he was looking for. He pulled it out: it was a blue and green surfboard. This may seem an unusual possession for a werewolf, but it was no ordinary surfboard, and not made to surf on water. Satisfied, Finn closed the armoire and looked around. When he saw no one, he cupped a hand around his mouth and called out for his accomplice: "Psst! Psst! Perry!" As soon as he whispered-called her name, Perry appeared in a puff of reddish smokehal right beside Finn, making at him jump. "You called?" she said, grinning impishly, or more accurately, devilishly. Finn frowned. "Do you have to appear so suddenly like that all the time?" he asked. "What? It's fun." Perry explained simply, "Plus, what's the point of having demon magic if I don't use it?" she asked, levitating around the werewolf's head and opening her amber-and-red eyes wide. "I'll have spent fifty in hell with my grumpy dad for nothing." "Okay, good point." Finn conceded. "Now," He placed a hand on Perry's shoulder, bringing her back down. Then he grinned. "Are you ready to scare some mortals?" Perry's fiery eyes lit up, almost literally (I mean, she is a demon). "Am I ever!" she beamed. "So what's the plan? Sneak up behind them while invisible and give them wedgies? Possess one to make it dance the macarena? Turn one of them inside-out?" she rubbed her hands together, her eyes growing an ever brighter and fierier shade of red which each suggestion. "No," Finn said quickly, snapping Perry out of her ghastly fantasies, "no possessions. And no turning anyone inside out. It's too gross." Perry looked a bit disappointed. She'd so been looking forward to trying it. Just once. Finn saw the disappointed look and was quick to try to erase it. "Tonight," he said, smiling proudly, "we're going with a classic. Ride the moonbeams" he showed her the green-and-blue surfboard, "until so that we're hovering on top of them. Then, drop spiders into their clothes!" Perry instantly brightened, her disappointed gone. "Oh that's a good one! Not really scary, but still good! Come on, let's go!" She grabbed Finn by the hand and pulled him to the front door and the two troublemakers headed out into the night. They hopped onto the surfboard and, in the light of the waxing moon, floated off into the sky, giggling and whooping madly in anticipation of the terror they were about to cause. They were so enthused that they didn't notice and pale form float up from the ground where they'd been standing a few moments ago. The pale, transparent form was that of a furry animal, and it watched them fly away. Then, the ghost growled, flicking his tail in disapproval, and floated into the house. ... As soon as Finn and Perry were floating away, the quietness they had left behind was interrupted yet again. This time, by the great big clock on the ground floor, as it struck the hour with a great: "BONG! BONG!" This sound rang out through the entire house, loud as a thunderclap, and instantly woke Aerrow up, his eyes snapping open in an instant. Even if he hadn't been sleeping on the chandelier right beside the clock, he would've heard it ring. But alas, he had been sleeping on the chandelier, right beside the clock, and so the full force of the "BONG" rang in his sensitive ears and rattled through his skull and nearly deafened him! Letting out a shriek, he flung out his wings in an attempt to cover his poor ears...and accidentally let go of the chandelier. "Who-Wh-W-WHOA!" Aerrow cried out as he tumbled down, and in his nearly-deafened, barely-roused, confused state, he couldn't help but transform and so he landed with a loud "BAM!" on his back on the floor in vampire form. The carpet didn't do much to soften the landing. "Ow." he said, and slowly reopened his eyes. They were an icy, deathly blue, and very annoyed. Groaning, he sat up, rubbing his ears and his head as the clock continued to chime. He counted. It rang six more times. That meant it was eight. "What the-!" he whirled around to look at the clock. Indeed, it was eight in evening. 'It's eight?! How can it be eight-o-clock?! Creeps, just how long have I slept?!' he thought in complete surprise. This may not seem surprising to you, but what you have to understand is that Aerrow was a notoriously early riser. More often than not, he would wake up when the sun was still visible (depending on the time of year, of course), usually between five and six in the evening. So the idea of him sleeping in until eight was pretty much unheard of. Aerrow got to his feet and rushed upstairs, silently gliding the way vampires do. He reached the trapdoor which opened to the third floor, which was really just Piper's lab, and knocked. A female voice, muffled by the door, answered him: "Hold on a second!" Then there was a bright flash of bright blue from behind the trapdoor, outlining its shape for a moment before fading quickly. "Okay, come in!" Aerrow pulled down the trapdoor and a collapsible staircase folded out from the space above. He climbed it, entering the lab. It was a fairly small room, circular in shape, with shelves on every wall, each holding an assortment of glass potion bottles, cups of ingredients, crystals and other strange and magical objects. In the middle of the room, there stood a massive black cauldron, which looked empty from where Aerrow was standing, but he never better from that light he'd seen earlier. Leaning over the rim of the cauldron, but then turning to see who'd come in, was Piper. She smiled as she saw him. "Aerrow! How'd you sleep?" "Perry good," Aerrow admitted, coming to stand beside her, "like a rock, actually-Piper, what time is it?" "Just past eight-o-clock," she said, "why?" Aerrow's frosty eyes widened. "Seriously?" "I'm pretty sure I heard eight chimes a minute ago," Piper smiled jokingly at the flustered vampire, "so yes, seriously." "Why didn't you wake me up?" For Aerrow would've far preferred a gentle wake-up call from the witch, no matter how early, than a unforgiving slap to his eardrums that the clock provided. "I didn't want to disturb you." answered Piper, and then her smile was replaced by a look of concern. "You came home so late yesterday that none of us saw you, so I imagined you needed the rest." Aerrow scratched the back of his neck. It was true; he had come home supremely late. He'd stayed behind to help his family clean up after Fangsgiving (and yes, even he cringed at how punny the name was), and that had meant waiting until both his brother and sister had left with their own families. By the time he'd left, it was way past dawn, and even though he took a shortcut over a mortal town (even though he knew he shouldn't have); he'd only arrived at noon. By that time, he'd been so tired that he'd just enough energy to hang onto the chandelier before nodding off. So the sleep had been appreciated. Still, he felt a little awkward about sleeping in so late. "Thanks," he said, smiling a small, sheepish smile. Piper turned back to her cauldron, so that all Aerrow could see was the back of her tall, black hat. "Plus," she added conspiratorially, "it was a tiny bit of revenge." This statement made Aerrow smirk and raise an eyebrow disbelievingly. "Revenge?" "You left me to fall asleep alone yesterday. And when you did return home, you didn't even bother to come to bed." Piper explained, the smallest hint of a sly smile on her face. "Needless to say, I was disappointed." Aerrow chuckled. "Okay, okay," He put his arms around Piper, resting his chin on her shoulder, and he sensed that she was trying not to smile. "I'm very sorry and I promise that, next time I stay out late, I'll make sure to go to bed properly." He kissed her neck, and this time Piper couldn't help but blush and smile at the apology. Aerrow innocently peeked up at her. "Am I forgiven?" Piper didn't even pretend to consider. "Yes, you are." she smiled, leaning back into his arms. Aerrow kissed her neck again, sighing in contentment. But when he looked up at Piper again, they had changed. Instead of their usual icy blue, his irises were a deep crimson red. "So, can I have breakfast now?" he asked. The witch chuckled, then gently pushed Aerrow off and shook her head. "Not now, I'm afraid." Aerrow pouted, disappointed, despite his eyes returning to their normal hue. Piper saw the pout and smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry, Aerrow, but you'll have to be patient." she turned back to her cauldron and Aerrow stepped closer, now curious as to what was inside. "This experiment," Piper said, holding up two crystals, "is one I've been working on for weeks, and I'll need all of my energy to complete this final step." she explained, turning back to him. "But you can have breakfast once I'm done, promise." "I think you mean brunch at that point." Aerrow retorted. He had no idea how long this experiment would take, but given how important it seemed, he pegged it at an hour or two." "Sounds good to me." said Piper, giving him a quick kiss. Aerrow smiled and kissed her back, lingering a bit longer than he should have. At that moment, a ghostly animal floated up through the floor and let out a screech which diverted the couple's attention away from each other. The vampire and the witch smiled at the transparent mammal. "Excellent timing as usual, Radarr." said Aerrow. Radarr, realizing he probably caught them while they were having a moment, squeaked apologetically. But he had important business to tell Aerrow, and so he quickly recovered himself and floated up to the vampire, chittering wildly. Aerrow frowned as he listened, and then his eyes widened. "What?!" Radarr nodded and Aerrow groaned, hiding his face in his palm. "Not again," "What is it?" Piper asked. She didn't understand Radarr (or any other animal ghosts) the way Aerrow did, so she couldn't tell what he'd said. Aerrow raised his head. "I have to head out for a few minutes." he said. Piper blinked. "What?" Aerrow was already at the lever which opened Piper's lab roof (she needed it open sometimes so she could see the position of the stars) and pulled it. "There's something I need to take care of." he explained as the roof began to unfold, then he looked to Piper. "You'll close the roof behind me?" "Aerrow, what-?" Piper tried to ask, still wanting to know what was going on, but Aerrow interrupted. "You'll understand what it is when I get back. I don't want to interrupt your experiment." he smiled reassuringly. "It should be quick." "Okay," Piper nodded hesitantly, "but don't take all night." Aerrow's smile widened. "I won't." and he gave her one last quick peck before turning into a bat and flying out the roof with Radarr right behind. The witch watched them leave, wondering exactly what kind of errand they were off to. Then, she shrugged and closed the roof. ... "Ho ho, this is gonna be so good!" Perry whooped as she and Finn zoomed through the sir. "I can't wait to see the looks on those mortals' faces!" "Yeah!" Finn grinned broadly, so excited that his tail couldn't stop wagging. "And see them dancing around like they've got ants in their pants!" "No! Spiders in their pants!" said Perry, and the two burst out laughing. They stopped laughing, however, as a strong wind rushed right past them! It caught the surfboard and spun like a top! Perry shrieked as she was nearly blown off, and the surfboard whirled around and around, so much that Finn's eyes rolled around like marbles. And then, just when he thought he was going to be sick, the surfboard stopped spinning. Finn and Perry shook their heads until the world had stopped twirling and then noticed that the board had been halted by a foot. The owner of the foot then spoke: "And just where do you two think you're going?" His flinty voice sent shivers down Finn's spine. There were only two people who could creep him out like that with such a calm tone. He looked up, and was face to face with Aerrow, floating just in front of them, his back to the moon, his cape billowing out like giants bat wings, the halo of moonlight bringing a menacing glint to his fangs and dead-coloured eyes. Above his shoulder, the transparent form of Radarr frowned at him, and both vampire and ghost looked just about as disapproving as it was possible to be. "Oh crabapples," Finn muttered. ... The front door flew open and Radarr floated inside, triumphant. Aerrow was right behind, looking considerably less pleased with himself and dragging Finn and Perry along with him. Both were keeping up a constant stream of "Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow!", but this did not make Aerrow relinquish his grip on their ears. If anything, it made him pinch their ears even more. Well, it served them right. This was far from the first time Finn and Perry had tried to break the rules of secrecy, and Aerrow knew it wouldn't be the last (unfortunately). But at least he'd managed to catch them before they actually did anything. Still, Piper was not going to be happy. "Piper!" he called out. "You might want to come down here!" ... Indeed, Piper was not happy. "HOW many times have I told you?!!" she roared. "We are NOT to meddle with mortals except on HALLOWEEN!!!" "But it's three weeks away-" Perry said pitifully, her forked tail and pointed ears drooping. "I don't care!" Piper's wrath was so great that her eyes were practically burning. "There are NO OTHER EXCEPTIONS!!! If you do this one more time, ONE more time, I'm sending both of you to dad!!!" At the mention of the sisters' demon father, Finn yelped and shifted into wolf form, diving into Perry's arms for shelter. Perry gasped. "You wouldn't dare!" In response, Piper's eyes really did become more fiery than usual, the amber irises glowing gold and the white darkened to a dangerous rust-red. Perry gulped. "Then again, maybe you would." she squeaked. Finn whimpered. Piper scared the bigeebers out of everyone whenever she let some of her demon heritage show. As her eyes turned back to normal, Piper brandished an authoritative finger at the two. "No more mortal candy this week!" "What?!" Finn and Perry cried out. "No! Aww! You can't be serious!" "I am DEADLY serious!" said Piper. "You tried to break the rules of secrecy-" "But it's the only fun we ever get!" Perry protested. Aerrow, finally deciding to intervene, spoke up: "I've seen you pranking monsters just as much, if not more, than mortals, and you seemed to enjoy yourselves plenty." Realizing she'd been caught, blushed, embarrassed. "It's not nearly as fun with other monsters." she muttered half-heartedly. "It sounds, to me, sis," said Piper, "that what you two sorely need is a hobby. May I suggest," she waved her hand and two grooms magically levitated into the room, "cleaning up after the messes you make?" another flick of the wrist, and the brooms floated themselves into Perry's hand and Finn's mouth (he was still in his wolf form). Perry tried once again to argue. "But-" Piper frowned, her eyes glowing red again. "Okay okay, we'll do it!" Perry hurriedly got to her feet and headed for the kitchen to start sweeping. Finn, who'd fallen onto the floor as Perry left, smiled nervously at Piper before following her demon sister, turning back to his humanoid form as he went. Piper groaned and rubbed the area between her eyebrows, muttering in frustration. Aerrow put a hand on her shoulder. "If it helps," he said, "I think that went a lot better than last time." "Perhaps, but sometimes," Piper said, lifting her eyes, "Sometimes, I can't BELIEVE those two. I mean, how many times have we been through this? A hundred? A thousand? It's starting to feel like that..." Aerrow nodded. It was exhausting, trying to rein Finn and Perry in most of the time. They were as rambunctious as a zombie-squirrel hopped up on sugar, and twenty times as determined. It made him feel like they were parents with kids particularly hell-bent on disruption. But he still held out hope that these kids would grow up and mature...someday...eventually.

The only one I’ve properly kept up with out of my 5 shows this season is Juuni Taisen, so I’m going to roll out the tag for that show first. Also, the Idolish7 first two episodes became free recently so I cover them here too.

Notice Monkey uses moves that use the strength of her opponent against her. It’s a very pacifist touch, so to speak.

There are a series of images that flash by before the casual clothes part of the ED. If you observe them closely, you’ll see a lot of them involve the number 12. (Example: the cubes have lines on them that read “12”.)

Genius, with a capital letter? They keep calling him the Genius of Slaughter in his backstory, so I guess that’s where it’s from.

A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing is the same in Japanese as it is English, so at least the pun is there.

LOL, this episode is pretty much all “stuff goes kaboom!”, and that’s pretty much the way of the Sheep. Haha.

I started doing a productivity blog and got caught up in it so much, I neglected anime! Imagine that – me, neglecting anime!

It’s anime Hogwarts! Only the train is more colorful…LOL. (Actually, Little Witch Academia is anime Hogwarts, so scratch that.)

Ooh, Elias has a good taste in faces. Not that I’m complaining or anything. (Looks like En-chan, to boot.)

Elias is like the NEET genius of the magic world here. It’s kinda funny.

What’s a Gem’s Bee? (No spoilers, I’m not a manga reader!)

Angelica’s like her (Chise’s) mother, LOL. Seeing Elias properly emote is hilarious, hilarious! (Why I procrastinated on this show? Because it’s a slow mover that should be appreciated in its own time, but I’m not good with binging so…that’s why I’m only watching it now.)

Poppies, eh? To me, poppies symbolise war and sticking out, but that’s just a product of where I was born. In the case of war, poppies represent the blood of the fallen and those who rise above that.

Speaking of stories I couldn’t write, I’m currently bringing Next to Me to a close. I feel like that’s my best match to AMB, which is why my thoughts dwell on stories so much right now. Next to Me is one of those stories where the world matters just as much as the character building, if not more, which is why the understated majesty of AMB is a good match.

Seeing a blonde Englishman use –kun like a Japanese is a bit disorienting.

Idolish 7 1

Crunchyroll really tried to hype this thing up! Wow. So, here I am at what could pretty much be called a premiere event of the simulcast commentary. Enjoy, friends.

By the way, I’ve tried a bit of the Idolish 7 game (but since it was on BlueStacks, I couldn’t do the “rhythm” part of the rhythm game very well and subsequently couldn’t get too far) and of course, there’s a vested interest through Shirai, Masuda and Nishiyama. Update: There’s no Nishiyama in sight. Sorry, guys.

Oh wow. This is exactly as I remember it in the game, right down to the word!

Yay! I was looking forward to seeing the basketball scene adapted, since it’s possibly the only scene I got to experience in the game in its (Japanese) entirety. Bring the dang game to the Western world, Bandai!

Riku is such a pure cinnamon bun when he gets the basketball back.

I don’t remember them dropping Trigger’s name so early…geesh, my memory must be sketchier than I thought it was.

That was a great Iori impression Mitsuki did, even visually (note: I didn’t listen to Mitsuki do the impression, I only read the subs…hence my comment). Troyca really captured the style of the game, to boot, which is another cherry on the cake.

Notice Iori stands in front of the D.C. (da capo) and leaves to reveal it.

I researched who Riku’s brother is while I was watching ep 1 and…(spoilers for the uninitiated!) the brother is Tenn of Trigger!

There was a soba ad in the back in one lingering shot…

Hey, I get the feeling there’s CGI involved in this dance segment, but it’s…hardly detectable! Amazing! These guys seem to have gone a long way since the horribly animated Monster Generation MV.

Notice they (Troyca) only use CGI in (mostly) shots which don’t involve closeups.

Of course Nagi winks in the middle of his performance…

Whoo, yeah. That was a bold move by Crunchyroll, and of course that would grab me more than just leaking the first ep. I wonder if any critics covered this on their blogs…? Or would it not matter, since critics wouldn’t cover this “uncritical slop” anyway? Nonetheless, I covered it, and that’s what matters! (Update: Yeah, all the critics – Frog-kun, Lauren in Space, Mage in a Barrel etc. - passed on it. As expected of those critics…)
