Literally just me gushing about eurobeat
Y'know what? Tumblr, you get a little treat. I don't have much better of a place to post something long-winded like this, so here we are.
I love eurobeat music. Big surprise from the girl with it in her handle, right? But I don't just love one kind of eurobeat. No, I'd go so far as to say I love it all. This genre becomes an absolute buffet of delightful, energetic, silly fun when you forget about trying to look for ways it "doesn't count", and try to look for the ways it does.
I love early eurobeat! I love the stuff that's indistinguishable from early Italo Disco, the formative things where the tempo was still low and the disco vibes were still high! That's Eurobeat and the first few volumes of Super Eurobeat are great for this!
I love later eurobeat, too! Even if some of the sounds aren't always my favorites, I love that folks were trying new things and dabbling with new sounds, experimenting in ways that in previous years seemed prohibited! Comparing some aliases who have been going for multiple decades from this period to when they started is also super fun!
I love traditional eurobeat, if I could pick a name for it! Faster, more rave-influenced, whether or not it's still got some disco elements in it, themes about nightclubs and love and loss and betrayal and that ever-ubiquitous fire! Maharajah Night has some great examples, leading into the bulk of pre-200 Super Eurobeat volumes!
I love J-Euro! It turns out, folks in Japan have different ideas and tastes and approach the genre VERY differently than the folks in Italy do, and I love how it sounds! I love how the sound design is so different and the speed jumps a little higher!
I love indie eurobeat! I love hearing how new and amateur producers take a crack at the sound, and seeing what folks do as the tools for making it grow and evolve! Even virtual versions of the synths the masters used to use are available now, and it's fantastic to hear how those things sound in new hands! I love the ways indie producers bend, break, and work around the rules of the genre and still deliver a uniquely "eurobeat" experience! Without this category, I would never have found DJ Command, DJ Bouche, Turbo, Vikas Beatbox, the Galaxian Recordings crew, and so, so many more!
I love happy eurobeat! The nature of the genre makes it so straightforward to pair its signature energy with joy, delight, empowerment!
I love sad eurobeat! That very same energy that powers joy and happiness can be just as powerful for driving home sorrow and sadness, and some lyrics even carry strong emotional weight (we're well past the days of eurobeat being only about Burning Love Car Baby Fire Desire Tonight Drift Tokyo, y'know)!
I love fandom eurobeat! Yup! Vocaloid, Touhou, MLP:FiM, Vtubers; whatever you may be a fan of, chances are good there's a eurobeat remix out there (or even an original) that suits your fancy!
I love Initial D eurobeat! How could I not, right? The classics are classics for a reason, and eurobeat and drift racing are a uniquely fantastic pair. Of all the things eurobeat could be about, it's one of a few that really knock it out of the park!
I love feminine eurobeat! Masculine eurobeat is great too, but it already gets a lot of love in the other categories, so I want to celebrate those eurobeat songs that feel quite the opposite while still being perfectly eurobeat! Eurobeat is broad enough to express feelings like this, too!
I love songs that aren't quite eurobeat, but have elements of it! And I love eurobeat songs that heavily include elements from other genres, too! Eurobeat is like any other genre-- it has not always had the same chances to rub shoulders with other sounds in the dance space, but when it does, some wonderful things happen! And the whole music world is enriched for that cross-pollenation!
I love the songs I used to dislike! To think I'd go from vastly disliking Norma Sheffield's discography, to adoring it so fully! Disliking "Higher Higher More and More" to seeking it out from time to time! Not being fond of SAIFAM/BBB's style, to knowing some of its songs by heart!
And most of all, I love that I get to MAKE this stuff for a living! I do not take the fact that this could've not worked out trivially, and I hope I've rewarded your patiences well with a lot of new favorites and starting points for diving deeper into the genre over the last... almost 20 years, now!
And that's just the tip of the iceberg! I understand some eurobeat isn't to everyone's taste, but I think if you haven't tasted all that there is out there, you owe it to yourself to see how you feel about it. You might be pleasantly surprised!

Musa’s Discography Pt. 1
Yes, I spend way too long thinking about stuff like this about my characters leave me alone ajajajjaaa
But srly like 2 people have asked me about this and I’ve spent way too long thinking about what Musa discography would actually be like so… here is her discography with a way too detailed description of why I chose each of the songs, I had way too much fun with this.
First EP. Written in the later half of s2 and before s3 published in the summer between s2 and s3
I had no specific ‘theme’ for this one, just songs I felt fit Musa’s mentality and would be cool for her first project
For the first EP, which consists of:
The Beginning by Madison Beer.
I just really love this intro it’s a gorgeous showcase of vocals and it’s beautiful and perfect.
I Hate the Way by Sofia Carson.
I love this song. Musa would base if mostly off of Riven’s epic screw up in s2 ch27. Also the guitar solo part feels perfect for her.
Whispers by Halsey.
I can’t quite explain why but this song is so Musa-coded to me. At least my version of her. She builds walls up and tries to not care and fails miserably every time. Also touches slightly on the depression that she def never adressed before going to Alfea and meeting the girls
Run and Hide by Sabrina Carpenter.
I feel like this song fits Musa’s mentality in s1 and part of s2 perfectly especially when it comes to romantic love. ‘Started thinking love’s a loaded gun, nobody wants to fight’ ‘If you can’t hide run, if you can’t run hide’ ‘I don’t wanna run I don’t wanna hide’ it’s just perfect for how she used to think and I really love the idea of her writing this precisely as she starts to let go of that mentality
favorite crime by Olivia Rodrigo.
This would be a more story-telling type song written with Helia cause I feel like putting those two together they would absolutely go full story tellers and poem-like lyrics and this feels like smth they would absolutely write one night they couldn’t sleep cause they love a good sob love story
Ribs by Lorde.
Written about the Winx and the Specialists with a sprinkle of dreading growing up
Second EP. Written during the first half of s3, published right before Winter Break
This one did have a slight ‘theme’ to it since it was mostly written while she was fighting with Riven over secrets on both sides and she was very frustrated with herself and projecting a bit on him.
Hard to Love by Rose.
This feels very Musa-coded to me. She has that instinct of ‘oh shoot I’m loved? Fucking run for the hills!’ But more like… again, she builds walls. So I can see her writing this one night very frustrated with herself like, why am I like this?
Rock Bottom by Hailee Steinfeld.
I love this song and I feel like it suits Rivusa so perfectly in the first half of s3 ‘We’re on the right side of rock bottom and I hope that we keep falling. We’re on the good side of bad karma, cause we keep on coming back for more. We’re on the right side of rock bottom, and to you I just keep crawling. You’re the best kind of bad smth, cause we keep on coming back for more.’ Literally them at this point before they learn to properly communicate. Also ‘what are we fighting for? Seems like we do it just for fun.’ Love this song
Monster in Me by Little Mix.
Another song that suits them when they’re at rock bottom. ‘Touch me, why don’t we kill each other slowly?’ ‘The monster in me loves the monster in you’. Def can see Musa writing this when she’s frustrated with herself and Riv cause she knows why they’re both screwed up but can’t quite figure out how to get past it
when the party’s over by Billie Eilish.
This was when, for a moment Musa considered just calling it quits cause she wonders if maybe they’re both too fucked up to make it work and she wrote this whilst in depression. She also realized that she was hurting him by picking fights and not being honest and wrote this in response to that realization
Midnight Rain by Taylor Swift.
This one was also co-written by Helia, they went for another story-telling not-to-be love story.
False God by Taylor Swift.
Another song that feels oh so Rivusa-coded to me. Like, cmon this is one of those songs that played in the back of my head every single time I had them argue in s3 and feels like the perfect song to end an album all about fighting the one you love

Fortnight - post mortem
"Fortnight"
(feat. Post Malone)
"I was supposed to be sent away, but they forgot to come and get me
I was a functioning alcoholic till nobody noticed my new aesthetic
All of this to say, I hope you're okay, but you're the reason
And no one here's to blame, but what about your quiet treason?"
To be sent away is to be committed to the psych ward, or sent to jail. From the music video (MV) it seems that in this case it's a reference to an involuntary stay in the psych ward - she's chained up in a bed being made to take pills, however, asylums and prisons are a theme throughout the album as a whole.
Tumblr media
In the opening scenes of the video she is dressed up to look like 1920s movie starlet Clara Bow (who is referenced directly as a song title later on the album.) Her hair is pinned up with an extreme number of upside down bobby-pins which on the right side of her head make the roman numeral for 13, and she is wearing a wedding gown.
Clara Bow is known to have engaged in lavender marriages while having secret affairs with women during her stardom. "dropping hairpins" is a piece of historical queer slang, meaning dropping hints that one is queer, and the inverse, having your hair pinned up means that you're pretending to be straight. Hair pins reference back to the lyrics of Right Where You Left Me "Dust collected on my pinned-up hair." I read this scene as "maximum closeting," by force.
The entire room is shown to be upside down and at an angle which reminds me of the classic Emily Dickinson poem "tell all the truth but tell it slant" Given Emily is a favorite poet of TS the Dickinson reference is likely intentional and it's fair to assume that there are red herrings and metaphors in abundance throughout this song and this album. Remember the 'redherring' error code on the website pre-release.
This song and video also reference A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, which tells the story of a person released from prison who has mental health issues due to being tortured during their prison stay, who is then taken by their family from Paris(!) to London (!!) Book 2 of A Tale of Two Cities is titled "The Golden Thread" which reminds me of Invisible String "one single thread of gold tied me to you," and in the second book we're told the tale of how the golden haired daughter provides financially for her family in addition to repairing and maintaining their good reputation. A Tale of Two Cities feels oh so very appropriate as a touchstone for listening to this album.
"I was a functioning alcoholic" is this metaphorical, literal, or both? Other mentions of use and abuse of drugs and alcohol in her discography include Closure "I'm fine with my spite and my tears and my beers and my candles" Clean "Ten months sober" and Don't Blame Me "My drug is my baby I'll be using for the rest of my life" I think in this case I think it might be both metaphorical and literal. The loss of her love drove her to drink, but also, she was addicted to her illicit love and maybe got away with it until others noticed-?
"All of this to say, I hope you're okay, but you're the reason. And no one here's to blame, but what about your quiet treason?" reminds me again of the song Closure "It wasn't right the way it all went down looks like you know that now. Yes, I got your letter, Yes, I'm doing better. I don't need your closure" It's just as direct, but less aggressive in tone. She hopes her muse is well but they are the reason that she is where she is.
"And for a fortnight there, we were forever
Run into you sometimes, ask about the weather
Now you're in my backyard, turned into good neighbors
Your wife waters flowers
I wanna kill her"
A fortnight is two weeks, though, it may be a metaphorical stand-in here just meaning that for awhile it seemed like they were going to be together forever, but now they are acquaintances who make small talk.
"Now you're in my backyard, turned into good neighbors" reminds me of the ever so quotable line "Good Fences Make Good Neighbours" from Robert Frost's poem Mending Wall, the irony of the poem is that while setting clear boundaries with a wall prevents petty disputes over property lines the constant need to maintain the wall they've built brings the neighbours together to talk. The line is often quoted by people who've never read the poem without heed for the irony. As a reference here it seems very sarcastic - we're good neighbours look how polite and appropriate we are with our boundaries set in stone.
There are many references to gardens and flowers in the TS back catalogue but for me this in particular recalls the lyrics from Clean "The drought was the very worst. When the flowers that we'd grown together died of thirst." and this line translates to me as I hate your partner because they're growing a relationship/family with you, whereas ours is dead.
Tumblr media
The MV shows TS wiping her face to reveal tattoos that almost match those of Post Malone who plays the part of love interest in the MV. The differences are the addition of two tattoos that spell out DDP, an extra heart, and a change from a playboy bunny to what looks like a diamond. The tattoos seem to have been covered with make-up while she was chained up in the asylum, and they disappear as soon as she steps out into the other room - only to reappear onto the face of Post Malone. I don't have any theories about what DDP stands for I would love to hear other peoples. Seeing TS with secret tattoos reminds me of Dress, "made your mark on me a golden tattoo." another song about secret love.
"All my mornings are Mondays stuck in an endless February
I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary"
Mondays being the most notoriously hated day of the week because it's the start of the work week for many people, and Feb being post-celebration winter in the northern hemisphere, I read this as - all I do is work I'm stuck in a bleak winter that won't end. I've tried every option available to get over you but it didn't work.
Tumblr media
When she enters the writers room she's wearing a mourning dress, which could lend another layer i.e. all my mournings are mondays i.e. all of my break-ups are work/business.
The whole video is in black and white except for the sparks that fly off the pages into the air between their desks, and the fire once she sets things ablaze.
"And I love you, it's ruining my life
I love you, it's ruining my life
I touched you for only a fortnight
I touched you
But I touched you"
This is pretty direct but in context I read it as - I'm still in love with you, I feel stuck, I can't move on and my public image won't let me let you in, we may have only been together for a short time but we were together and I can't/won't forget it.
Tumblr media
In the MV there are an endless array of masked figures also in black mourning attire, all with masks and hats sitting at identical desks disappearing into the horizon. Are these the other tortured poets from history, made to mask and hide behind their typewriters in a black and white world?
"And for a fortnight there, we were forever
Run into you sometimes, ask about the weather
Now you're in my backyard, turned into good neighbors
Your wife waters flowers
I wanna kill her
And for a fortnight there, we were together
Run into you sometimes, comment on my sweater
Now you're at the mailbox, turned into good neighbors
My husband is cheating
I wanna kill him"
"My husband is cheating I wanna kill him" This could be literal cheating, however, she is not literally married so maybe that's a hint - maybe he's violating the terms of a contract? After all she's probably not in love with him since she's pining so badly after the muse of this song-? So, why would she still want to murder him? Maybe they were supposed to get lavender-married but he cancelled the wedding and now everything is in upheaval?
Tumblr media
She is laying on the ground with PM in the middle of an image of herself made up of pages reading from "The Story of US" book, "So many things that I wish you knew. So many walls up, I can't break through" they seem to be stuck there and then they break free, pages flying in the air, and hold each other laughing. The tattoos are now gone from both faces.
Tumblr media
"I love you, it's ruining my life
I love you, it's ruining my life
I touched you for only a fortnight
I touched you
I touched you
I love you, it's ruining my life
I love you, it's ruining my life
I touched you for only a fortnight
I touched you
I touched you"
Tumblr media
In the MV she's back in the asylum now, hair undone/pins gone, strapped to a table surrounded by men about to have electro convulsive therapy (ECT) administered, a black dog runs through the frame. The ECG read-out is showing "I love you it's ruining my life" in the read out of her heart beat. One of the panels in the background reads "Master Control." In literature The Black Dog represents depression.
So, when her hair is unpinned she wants to be publicly out as in love with a woman, and the men who surround her and control her and her music deem it inappropriate, they want to 'fix' her. But, when the ECT runs sparks fly, the machinery overloads, she screams, and PM runs over to release her from the table.
Tumblr media
"Thought of calling ya, but you won't pick up
Another fortnight lost in America
Move to Florida, buy the car you want
But it won't start up till you touch, touch, touch me"
"Thought of calling ya, but you won't pick up. Another fortnight lost in America" You won't answer my calls so we've lost another fortnight of our lives to the American culture wars - reminds me of Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince and Paris, which are also songs about running away.
Tumblr media
They are now outside in a raging storm stuck on top of a mountain with treacherously steep sides, TS sits atop a phone box in a dress that looks like chain-mail, while PM is inside the box making a call begging..
"Move to Florida, buy the car you want but it won't start up till you touch, touch, touch me." TS has said in interview that moving to Florida in this album is a reference to people running away from their mistakes and starting fresh. She's telling the muse to ditch their partner and runaway with her, this ties back to Getaway Car which opens with "It was the best of times, the worst of crimes" which is a direct reference to A Tale of Two Cities which opens "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way".
"Thought of calling ya, but you won't pick up
Another fortnight lost in America
Move to Florida, buy the car you want
But it won't start up till I touch, touch, touch you"
Tumblr media
TS is back in the writers room, tearing open the draws, letting the pages fly into the air, crying, then stone faced in her mourning dress while the pages swirl around her burning. It reminds me of Dear Reader "Dear reader, burn all the files desert all your past lives" The version of her in the asylum smashes down the window.
Tumblr media
And finally the version of TS on top of the phone box reaches down and holds hands with PM. She's created imagery of herself stuck inside cages, boxes, glass boxes, etc over and over through the years and this is the first time we've seen her outside and making contact with another human.
Tumblr media
Conclusion: our protagonist has been held by force in the image of a virginal heterosexual bride, going slowly insane while she pretends that the woman she truly loves is just a friend, and she's now completely fed up and her bearding situation has gone to hell, she's asking her love to runaway with her and she's willing to metaphorically set fire to her history/her body of work to be with the one she loves.

Finding Fleetwood Mac's Mysterious, Enchanting, and Haunting Energy (Part 1)
As I've dived deeper into Fleetwood Mac's discography, I've realized that you can't pin most of the band's mysterious, enchanting, and haunting energy to Rumours. It's always been in the band.
The type of blues with Peter Green / Danny Kirwan / Jeremy Spencer that Fleetwood Mac was putting out naturally had dark and mystical themes, a prime example being The Green Manalishi (Then Play On - 1969). It's literally the same thing as Gold Dust Woman (Rumours - 1977), as he uses a witchy figure (and her effects) to describe his issues at that time with the struggles of money and drugs that come with being a musician, as well as shrieking instruments and howling throughout the song.
Other songs, like Albatross (1968) and of course Black Magic Woman (1968) also have ethereal and bewitching themes too.
It's also worth mentioning that the band was on drugs like LSD at this time too. Peter Green eventually Syd Barrett'ed out of the band; mental illness and drugs made him spiral and leave in 1970. So obviously, trips, delusions, and the users pretty much losing themselves to addiction during the creative processes, in addition to already being rooted in a dark and mythical genre means that the music is going to have an eerie, almost grieved, edge to it.
In my opinion, after Peter Green leaves the band, only a few songs between the end of his era and the beginning of Buckingham/Nicks carry the same heavy sound and theme I want to discuss. So before I next post on this topic (dealing with after Rumours), I suggest listening to the album Then Play On (1969) as there are many other songs I didn't bring up but still have the Fleetwood Mac sound mostly associated with Rumours. My favorites are Oh Well, Pt 1., World in Harmony, Closing My Eyes, One Sunny Day, and Before the Beginning.

9, 13, and 28!!
Hello!! Thank you so much for sending me an ask and killing my boredom, I really appreciate it 🥺👉🏾👈🏾 💕 I love you sm!! And I hope you're having a wonderful time of the day!
9 - happy song?
Uhh.. it's really hard for me to actually determine what the "happy" here means and my brain is really confused, but! If it's about upbeat songs (but with interesting lyrics and meaning, skjjs) it's definitely Choke — IDKHBTF (IT'S SO AGGRESSIVE I LOVE IT AND THE WAY IT SOUNDS WITH THIS INSTRUMENTAL????)!! Or Obsessed with you — The Orion Experience
If it's about meaning.. idk?? Maybe Фотограф - Электрофорез?? Or! Frank Sinatra's almost whole discography, but especially his Christmas songs??
13 - memory?
I think... I have a lot of memories I could call my favorite, and one of the most powerful memories of my whole life is the moment when my family got a dog. To put in really shortly: I was an extremely depressed teen that just moved to different country due to my grandma's illness & had a really horrible time trying to fit in. The moment is when me & my mom were having a train to countryside, I guess you could say?.. to go to that specific dog shelter and adopt a really precious puppy our family already loved. It was early winter morning when we got on a train and everything was covered with snow; it was like.. nearly -30 Celsius outside? It was truly magical. When we got there, it was very cold and sunny. The moment when we first met the puppy... I just- I feel like she choose us? She wasn't scared at all and it seemed like she almost.. recognized us? We were literally playing in a snow when we got out. It was a moment when my loneliness was officially over and I had an understanding that I'm not alone and that there's a reason to stay. When we were taking train back, we just- my mom was so fascinated with her. And so was I. We wasn't thinking about anything else because the happiness was truly overwhelming :') just hysterically laughing & crying from happiness and periodically looking at the window, seeing forests train was passing through. By the way, that's why the name of our dog is Снежинка (snowflake)!! Now I really miss her. She lives with my parents, a 5 or so hours away from me and I really, really miss my parent's home. I visit them once a few months and honestly... I just really miss our dog. She'll be seven years this October :') I'm just.. very anxious and scared of public places & trains & train stations especially (thanks OCD), which is the reason why it's so difficult for me to visit them.
I'm so sorry for lack of emotion in that description, but it's just- really personal and my memory of that time is extremely triggering to me and very personal. I feel like crying afterwards honestly- I just miss her so much.
28 - superhero?
PLEASE DON'T LAUGH AT ME. PLEASE. I know!! I just.. I don't consume media related to superheroes theme or something like that? I've never watched a single Marvel movie skjjs I APOLOGIZE 😭😭 And more into villains honesly. But! I think it's Black Panther?? I never watched a movie or read comics, its just from my impression from media- maybe... Miles Morales (Spiderman)???? GWEN?? I'm very confused with this because I never watched any of those, I just- I'm just loving the lore explaining videos & random content about it on my dash :')

On Repeat Tag Game
I was tagged by @bengiyo and @troubled-mind to put my repeat playlist on Spotify on shuffle and list the first 10 songs. Thank you both! ⸜( *ˊᵕˋ* )⸝
As always it's a little bit all over the place, but here are my 10!
aeseaes - Carrion Comfort
youtube
I have liked all aeseaes songs I have heard so far. This one I heard for the first time as I was re-reading Abarat by Clive Barker, where the villain (who fascinated me as a teen) is called Christopher Carrion, and the song has been haunting me since. Also I can't resist some cannibalism imagery.
Luther Vandross - Your Secret Love
youtube
Haha okay, so maybe I listened to this one on loop while I was working on my Love in Translation's gifset. I just really, really like this song - I am a sucker for love songs, and he is so, so good at it. Plus, what a voice...
안예은 Ahn Ye Eun - 홍련 (紅蓮) HONGRYEON
youtube
Alright, I discovered Ahn Ye Eun (kinda) literally two days ago thanks to @petrichoraline and I already have three songs of hers in the on repeat (the other 2 are Trumpet Creeper and Changgwi). She has an incredible voice, her instrumentals are so rich, and I adore how she plays around with horror themes and traditional myths. I am a little obsessed. (I'd recommend going down the comms a little, someone translated the lyrics and gave a few notes)
Debout sur le zinc - La déclaration
youtube
That's my favorite song of theirs and one of my favorite love song period. It's very sweet, but my favorite is the ending verse where he says. "It's a bit of a declaration [of love] even if I know that you're not/ the remedy nor the solution, just a splint on my arm/that small thing linking us to others when we don't do well/an ultimate language of survival that put the world back on its axis" - recognizing that love won't heal him entirely but is still necessary for him to survive.
Jonathan Hultén - Where Devils Weep
youtube
I cannot for the life of me remember how I found this one, but the sorrowful music with those, in the end, hopeful lyrics have been a pick me up the past week.
Déportivo - Les Bières Aujourd'hui S'ouvrent Manuellement
youtube
Deportivo is a french rock band from my teen years, so this cover is a bit of a throwback. This is a quietly sad song about a man realizing that his long term relationship has run its course - "It will always be a mystery to me/how the body get used to it/when love dies slowly". It talk about the very mundane things (his partner turning their back at him when they go to bed, the clicking of their spoon the only sound between them as they dine) that made him realize they are not in love anymore.
The Real Zebos – Puttin' On the Ritz
youtube
Tons of covers of this song exist (I do love Taco's version from like 1982 I think). This one came up in the spotify recs and it clicked for me. Love the singer's voice, and it feels fresh without losing it's original vibe.
Simon & Garfunkel - America
youtube
I have slowly been working my way through Simon & Garfunkel's discography over the last few months -because all their songs I grew up with I love. But since I discovered this one, it's a go to when I feel down and I need something for comfort (there is something that makes me feel heard in "Katie I'm lost I said though I knew she was sleeping. I'm empty and aching and I don't know why").
เงา (SHADOW) - LAZYLOXY
youtube
Guess what show I'm excited for!!!!! Joke aside, I put Lazyloxy's opening for Rakdiao on loop for weeks when I watched that show, so the moment this came out spotify stuffed it under my nose and I really like it!
Elisabeth (2005) - Marktplatz in Wien (Milch)
youtube
Like last year, October somehow means I start putting the 2005 live recording in Vienna of Elisabeth on repeat. I love musicals, and I have a special relationship to this one (it's the musical that got me into Takarazuka and my first German musical). This song always scratches the itch perfectly so I listen to it even more than the rest of the album (all songs with Lucheni are top tiers for me)
If you feel like doing it, I will tag @petrichoraline, @sparklyeyedhimbo, @scienceoftheidiot, @howdydowdy, and @iguessitsjustme !

was tagged by the lovely @serenescribe to participate in this game, thank you for the tag since this was super fun to answer!! I love getting to ramble about music :D (also even if they didn't make it on my list it's so nice to see other people who listen to pinkshifts music, I love the bands energy so much and I rarely hear people talk about them!!)
rules: post 5 songs you actually listen to, and tag 10 of your followers/mutuals (yeaahh most of my old mutuals have deactivated their blogs so I definitely don't have that many people to tag,,)
ngl I had to rearrange which songs I'd put multiple time before I was happy with these TvT
Bathtub mermaid - Mili
I am a major sucker for anything related to the sea, music is NOT an exception to that fact. This is such a soft song, it often makes me think of a lullaby. Mili's voice is very airy and light in this one compared to others where her voice gets more powerful, and I feel like it fits the vibe meant for this song perfectly. There's some room for interpretation with it but ultimately I think it's a song about being blinded by love, to the point where you're ready to transform yourself over and over again even if it isn't good for you in the end. Definitely an interesting theme to think about!
Carry me out - Mitski
It was hell picking out a single mitski song from my playlist bc I listen to so much of her discography, all the time :') however this is the one I've been listening to the most these days. I love how the song slowly builds up from the gentle first chorus to the much more powerful second one, I was floored when I listened to it the first time!! And the lyrics are very pretty too, as always Mitski's prose is just super evocative and I adore it with my whole heart
Je bois - Charles Aznavour
Sooo this one is definitely a more niche favorite of mine but I grew up listening to Aznavour and I've been re-listening to his songs lately, this one being my favorite out of them all. It's a pretty sad song despite how grand and flamboyant it sounds, considering it's about a man who has grown unhappy in his marriage and his life and drinks to forget his troubles, but it is masterfully written and so clever in its progression that I can't help listening to it over and over again
Parfum d'étoiles - Ichiko Aoba
Could I really make this list without mentioning the song that my blog is literally titled after?? And that I listen to nearly everyday??? I'm such a die-hard fan of Ichiko Aoba, and despite this song being mostly instrumental and not really showcasing much of her voice I'm terribly fond of it ♡♡ I adore how calm and soothing it is, its just one of those songs that puts me immediately at ease and feels like a breath of fresh air. All of her songs are worth checking out, she has got to be one of my favorite singers of all time
Tongues and teeth - The Crane Wives
I discovered The Crane Wives a few months ago, latched onto this song and I haven't let go since. I looove the singers voice so much, its so good and raspy and nice. I really like songs about fucked up love stories (bc they're so interesting to think about) and there's something about this one that just scratches an itch in my brain. The slowly growing desperation in the singers words to get their lover to stop pursuing them, growing from a careless warning to a desperate pleading for them to see just how bad they are in order to drive them away is just. AAAAAAAA so good!!
taglist: @avdoingstuff its been a while but if youd like to im tagging you! no pressure ofc, and anyone else who'd like to participate go crazy 🌟

Hunger: a song that describes the human – capitalist – desire
One of my favorite singers of all time is Aurora, no doubts. This great artist has a various number of songs, which also entails a lot of different meanings behind them. In that regard, her discography approaches diverse themes, changing from album to album, such as environmental problems, human selfishness, sadness, love, being different, standing up for what you believe, among others.
In that connection, in this post I will talk specifically about the song ‘‘Hunger’’, the fifth track of the album ‘‘A Different Kind of Human – Step 2’’ released on the 7th of June 2019. I think that the tittle of the song (and the title of the album too) kind of gives away what is this all about. Also, I would put the link of the full song at the very end in case someone is interested in listening to it.
If we focus in the full song, some of the most meaningful parts of it are the pre-chorus and the chorus. So, the pre-chorus goes: ‘‘In many ways, we’re not the same, but in some ways, we are. Looking for something new in the skin of an avatar’’. This line reflects the similarities between us humans, revealing that what we have in common as humans experiencing this world is the desire for newness: new experiences, new things to know, new things to have. Relating it to the other lines, we can say that is a desire to always have more and more, to possess more than we have, and more than others have. Also, ‘‘skin of an avatar’’ is used as a metaphor for our soul in a human vessel/having a human body, assuming that the human life is just a short experience of the soul incarnated on Earth, and this existence is dyed by the material desire.
On the other hand, the chorus goes: ‘‘All we ever had is hunger (Hunger, hunger). All we never get is power (Hunger, hunger). Would you ever feed each other? (Do we ever have power?). All we ever had is hunger.’’ This part can be directly related to capitalism: and what is more representative of capitalism that wanting to have a lot more than we already do to feel more powerful? The logic in this isn’t that simple, but if I try to explain it in an easier way, I would say that when you aren’t born with the type of power that gives you the freedom to do whatever you want without consequences (money is one of the reasons), that leads to feeling like you have no control over anything, you can even feel invalidated. So, in order to feel more valid and in control, you will start looking for ways (even unconsciously) to get power, and the way we can ‘‘access’’ to that power is getting more things, we validate our existence through the stuff we own (the more, the merrier!).
In that context, when the song refers to hunger, I can relate it to two things: first, hunger in a literal way. One thing that has always existed throughout history of the world is poverty, and the one thing that is related to poverty is hunger. In that sense, we will always be hungry: we can’t solve the worldwide poverty problem, because most people don’t have the power (mainly economic power) to do it and will never have, and the people who have the power to end with the world hunger, don’t care enough to do it (otherwise, hunger would not exist anymore).
Second, and more in line with the capitalism theme, hunger in the sense of consuming: the endless hunger for money, nice things, expensive things, clothes, the newest technology, etc., that blinds us with the desire of more so we can validate our existence. As Aurora expresses in an interview with Clash Magazine, we are wasting our time and money in meaningless things, we just  ‘‘force ourselves to not see the people dying to make you a t-shirt because you are hungry to buy as many t-shirts that you can’’.

Thanks for the tag @aviesnapkindoodles ! Starting a new post because as much as I love a long post, it is a long post!
Shuffle your ‘on repeat’ playlist and list the first 10 songs that play, then tag 10 people.
The Otherside by Jake Daniels - Man do I love a good bluesy song.
Burning Incense by Skott - I fricking love Skott. I could listen to all of her music on repeat forever.
Fallout by UNSECRET & Neoni - UNSECRET ends up on a lot of my angsty playlists.
Good Intentions by Coyote Kid - I think this one is on my repeat list because it literally makes me think of the Nightmare Time theme song, and I absolutely adore that vibe. The Nightmare Time theme song is sooooo good.
Rule the World by Zayde Wolf - Zayde Wolf is seriously one of my most favorite musicians. They've got the good beats, and I like to listen to them when I need to do chores and I need to keep going.
Ship in a Bottle by fin (but specifically the cover by Chloe Breeze was what popped up on this shuffle.) - This song is on so many of my playlists. Unf this is sooooo good.
Leviathan by David Wirsig - This is from the Prodigal album, and holy crap does David Wirsig's whole discography make me feel things.
Abandon the Hospital by Everybody's Worried About Owen - One of the songs that I just need to scream/sing along to. Also, big David Wirsig vibes for this one.
Vices & Virtues by Renaeiry - This is literally the first song on my on repeat playlist, so like I'm surprised that it was so far down the list.
What the Water Gave Me by Florence + the Machine - It took me far too long to recognize what this was and why it was on my list. In short, it was on a Reylo playlist once, and it's ended up in my library forever, thank you.
And if y'all just want a playlist of these, they're all compiled here. And I mean, yeah, I've got a specific taste in music.
Tagging anyone who wants to and these 10 specific people: @kittenclysm @aceofspiders @franfinesheffield @dont-wake-a-dragon @lenjaminmacbuttons @backtomycorner @diabetic-bean @diteach @yeoldemonster @alovelymoonbeam

Do you have a favorite UTAUloid or open source vocal synthesizer used for singing? I personally LOVE Yokune Ruko (especially her male voice bank) although there's many others I love. It's hard to list them all since there are literally hundreds of UTAUloids. I really love Momone Momo (I mean, without her, we wouldn't have the popular version of Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!/Nyan Cat) for her peach theme and voice and I also really like Defoko because the fact her voice is completely computer generated gives her a very unique sound (although I feel a bit basic for saying that since those two are part of the original UTAUloid trio which includes Teto, and although I like her, she's not one of my most favorites)
OMGGGGGG, LOVE THIS QUESTION BECAUSE I GET TO TALK ABOUT V FLOWER
V flower has and likely always be my favourite vocaloid (I will admit part of that is nostalgia because she’s one of the first vocaloids I listened to), I just. Her voice is so. There is a really interesting texture to that I just adore that I don’t think any other vocaloid has?? As far as I’ve heard. Love her in pretty much Hiiragi Kirai’s entire discography (Love-ka? my greatly beloved) and also so many Nilfruits songs AND ALSO Kanaria’s music. She’s so versatile and nice to listen and it’s just so. Waugh.
Also very much a fan of Miku purely because… who doesn’t love her. Her character is so charming (Rin and Len also!!!) so those three are the ones I like the most in terms of PRSK vocaloids.
GUMI is very cool too!!!!! Genuinely thought she was an actual human being at first before a friend corrected me.
You’re so right about there being far too many to list - and I’m actually not even that well versed in vocaloids outside of what I usually listen to but ajdlwbdkwebxoahxosbsj LOVE vocaloids,,,, the ones you mentioned aren’t familiar to me but they sound SO interesting I should definitely check them out. LOVE the asks you sent to me can’t wait to write out the Pokémon ask,,,,,,,, I wish I could think of something interesting to ask you!!!!!

So I want to talk about the album Phantoms (2019) for a second
So we all know this album uses ghosts and haunted house as a metaphor for a broken/post romantic relationship right? Josh describes the album as “being haunted by the ghosts of former love” and in his case, the broken off engagement he had with his (now) wife (yay happily ever after).
Anyway, during Astoria, I’m guessing he was describing what he was feeling/experiencing during the break up and in Phantoms, he is describing his feelings after the breakup. and as josh has said “every love song I’ve written is about the same girl” which is quite literally almost every song in their discography lmaoo the dedication this man has WHICH LEADS ME TO THE SONG PORCELAIN
Listen to the first 10 seconds of Glimmer. The very first 10 seconds. I’ll wait…. You’re back? Good! Now, tell me, does it sound familiar?? It should!! Because it sounds just like the first 10 seconds of which song?? PORCELAIN!!!
Tumblr media
It’s just that in Porcelain, that little melody is made through instrumentation while Glimmer is made vocally with little guitar notes sprinkled in there but it’s super similar.
And some of you may be like,, ugh that’s pretty lazy of josh to reuse the same melody BLAH BLAH,, but THATS LITERALLY THE THEME OF THE ALBUM. Porcelain is arguably one of THE love songs that he wrote for his wife at the time (which is now beaten by Like You Do obvs) Listen to how much love he puts in that song so to put that little melody that is the core of Porcelain which is reflected in Glimmer which is about letting go of what they had is VERY TELLING SUBTLY and just amplifies the meaning of "being haunted by a former love".
Furthermore, I was rewatching one of my favorite Marianas Trench reactions to the Phantoms album ( go check him out, its such a great video), and he quickly points out how the in the part in Glimmer "can we forgive and forget/ *heavy breathing*", sounds melodically similar to One Love's part "Don't stop, no stopping yet/What if one true love's the only one that you get" but he doesn't really expand on it.
Well, I want to talk about it. I think that it was intentional just as it was intentional to include Porcelain's intro in the song as well. Porcelain represents the love he had for her when they were dating and it was his love letter to her, One Love is the song that represents the immense heartbreak he felt DURING the break up. Not to mention, the lyrics in One Love that says "now i pine for phantom pain, it's the only time that i see your face" and WHAT IS THE MUSIC VIDEO FOR GLIMMER ABOUT!!! that exact same thing. So to put those two emotionally charged songs that represents the good and the ugly part of their relationship to the song that represents the POST relationship in his perspective is such a brilliant way to musically represent how his love keeps, in this context, "haunting" him.
As an end note, this man is quite literally a musical genius.

my favorite part about a jmart wonderful au is that it’s the perfect chance for adhd jon to infodump about everything he loves to his beloved husband. also the idea of jon being deeply and truly into the music of carly rae jepsen just brings me ALL the joy in the world.
LITERALLY LIKE!! wonderful au aka two ND husbands lovingly infodump and lovingly listen to each other infodump in return
Also I always headcannoned Martin as the CRJ stan (if I had the skill to do it i WOULD do a s1 crew animatic of this) [Martin voice: Carly Rae Jepsen is the opposite of Boris Johnson, in every conceivable way] BUT I love the idea that Jon got really into her after hearing Martin talk about it that I'm gonna fuckin write a minific right here right now bc I think it would go like
Jon: For my second thing, I want to discuss the music of Carly Rae Jepsen.
Martin: Oh you bastard!
Jon, innocently: What?
Martin: My second thing this week was Carly Rae Jepsen. I cannot believe you stole her. I introduced you to her in the first place!
Jon: You're joking.
Martin, laughing: I'm not! Look at my notes! Behold my research!
Jon, also laughing: Alright! All right. Well, you were right! She's very good and I would like to talk about! You should feel validated!
Martin: There is a bit of vindication present, yes. Okay, wait, babe, we can compromise on this.
Jon: Oh?
Martin: Yes! You can do Carly Rae Jepsen as a whole, I'll, fuckin, off the cuff, do that specific feeling of being gay and hearing the sax solo on Run Away With Me for the first time. We'll just have a CRJ themed episode. She deserves it.
Jon: Despite the fact that both of our first things had nothing to do with Miss Jepsen?
Martin: Boo. Spoilsport. And can't everything be tied back to CRJ, really?
Jon: Hmm. Perhaps. If we make some reaches. Oh, though speaking of run away with me, did you know that during your, ah, lonely stint, there was a considerable part of me that wanted to just set up a boombox with that playing outside of your office until you finally came out?
Martin, delighted: Wait, really? You wanted to pull a Say Anything?
Jon: Well I've never seen that, so no, but I think the song captured my sentiment at the time quite well.
Martin: Mmm, I dunno. I don't remember anything about eye gouging in any of her discography, let alone specifically Run Away With Me
Jon, audibly rolling his eyes: The eye gouging was an action, the sentiment of let's get the hell out of here and maybe make out still stands
Martin: Well, that part I did take you up on, eventually.
Jon, smiling: Took you long enough. Maybe the song would have expedited the process.
Martin, fond: Like you were any better. We got there in the end though.
Jon, fond: That we did.
Martin: Speaking of getting there in the end, we should probably actually start talking about Carly Rae Jepsen, huh?
Jon: Right! One of these days we'll introduce a topic with meandering for several minutes.
Martin: Doubtful. And who cares? We promise to talk about wonderful things on this podcast, not to talk about them efficiently.
Jon: A fair point. Anyway, for those unaware, Carly Rae Jepsen is a Canadian performer-

Overall impression of Midnights a day later:
There are a couple of very solid tracks, and a couple that are a lot of fun, but a lot of the album still blurs together for me. More than anything else, the album suffers from lazy, recycled Jack Antonoff production.
I was bracing myself for a bit worse based on people's takes on the leaks. I'm pretty much settled on the idea that Swift and her team leaked the first 13 tracks to get ahead of negative reviews focused on how weak a lot of the Antonoff-produced tracks are, and to put the focus on the best set of tracks (14-20) on release day.
I'm expecting a lot of the tracks to be growers a lot of them have already grown on me from first listen to now. That said, I'm still comfortable saying that it's definitely not her best album, not even in the top half. And that's fine. It's okay for it to be a middling album within her discography.
Can't remember where I read this on here, but someone said based on the leaks, this sounds like an album written by a woman tired of being called the greatest lyricist of her generation. I think that there's some legitimate truth to that, especially given the theme of being Tired with respect to her career and career-related pressure on this album and other recent ones.
In that way, this album makes me think of some statement or interview the frontman for The Antlers gave about their latest album Green to Gold — they didn't set out to make a better record than their earlier acclaimed albums, they were just making music. (Aside: I can't find whatever I read anywhere anymore, maybe I made it up.)
Weakest points / biggest gripes:
The production feels entirely phoned-in in a lot of places, and far too minimalist overall. Some of the drum machine beats sound like they were auto-populated by Garage Band when Jack Antonoff created a new file for the track and he just left it.
The lyrics: I don't actually have a ton of problems with the lyrics yet, but I've only been able to process about half of them in the context of the songs. It's mostly not a #relatable album but it's not trying to be and that's fine too. I should probably hate some of them more than I do, but when they're dumb they're still very fun.
The marketing: Girl what. Literally nothing about the album promo implied or hinted at anything that we got. Maybe if the marketing was more aligned with the music the album wouldn't feel like as much of a letdown. Based on the marketing I was expecting 70s folk-rock vibes (real instruments!), more intimate production, and more frank honesty in the lyrics.
I do like the album overall!
Part of me is very excited that it's not a 10/10 from top to bottom. One of my favorite activities is conducting postmortem analyses — I loooooove going over things that worked and things that didn't, and coming up with ideas for ways it could've been improved. So I'm having a ball on this bitch tbh.
I'm probably going to start playing "I Can Fix Her" with some of my favorite tracks on the album, because that's how I engage with art that I like.

Franz Ferdinand- Franz Ferdinand
Tumblr media
This album is really difficult to describe. It’s very obviously a rock album, but the style is really difficult. It has some punk influence, but it’s also danceable. It’s softer rock but with a lot of edge as well. Franz Ferdinand creates their own genre blend. Started in Scotland, this band has been together since 2001 and has been putting out music since 2004. Most recently, they released a greatest hits album. Today we’ll be looking at their self titled debut album.
The best thing about this album is the aesthetic. It’s moody, sensual, edgy, sometimes erie, energetic, and danceable. The best way I could describe the feel of this album is an underground nightclub that plays rock music, everybody’s dancing, except you’re on drugs and have no idea where you are or who anybody is- you’re terrified yet trying to have a good time anyway. The sound is centered around the guitar, which plays almost pop like riffs that grate the ears yet is satisfying to hear. The album’s cohesion and style is just so fresh, unique, and addicting.
The album opener is Jacqueline, which begins soft but then the sound blows up. It’s a perfect opener in my opinion- it catches your attention and then completely changes directions. The song is self indulgent and gluttonous and oddly dark. The lyrics reflect this nature.  The next song, Tell Her Tonight, is about an affair. This is an expansion of the self indulgent nature of the opener, as the narrator of the song justifies cheating. It introduces the sensual nature of the album as well, with verses depicting attraction to another woman. The next song is the band's biggest hit, which I find to be one of the least interesting songs on the album. The beat is really catchy and danceable, but there’s just not as much going on. The next song, Dark of the Matinee, just captures this aesthetic perfectly. I can’t even describe it if you’re reading this then just listen to the song. Auf Achse is another eerie and seductive rock song, dealing with themes of sexual temptation and regret. Cheating on You is a pretty self explanatory track- it’s about cheating on your partner. This song contrasts with Tell Her Tonight, as the narrator is less remorseful and more so proud of his infidelity. This Fire is the following song, which is the most straight forward punk rock track. There’s no underlying themes here, it’s just a fun rock song.
Darts of Pleasure is the next song, which is another fantastic example of the dark hedonistic vibes this album has. While not being explicit, it’s the most inherently sensual track on the album. Michael is the next song which is one of my personal favorites. It’s about physical attraction to another man on a dancefloor, and it’s just a really fun song. Come on Home is next, and it’s the most emotional song. It’s about heartbreak and longing, but despite this it’s another danceable rock song- which sort of disguises the content, creating an eerie contrast. 40′ is the closing song. and it’s definitely catchy and memorable. However the subject matter is extremely vague.
This album is one of my favorites of all times- there’s not a single bad song and it’s ability to tie together so many dark feelings and eerie aesthetics into a danceable rock album is insane. This is the album that brought them international success, and for good reason. It’s fresh and unique, and an album everybody needs to hear.
Rating: 9.5/10
Favorite Track: Dark of the Matinee
Skip(s): None
Other Albums to Listen To: Literally listen to this whole bands discography

hii i'm the anon who asked about wjsn, loona etc. and here are my recs!!
wjsn has a space, cosmic, sci fi type concept (their name is literally cosmic girls) and the songs that show that best would be Dreams Come True, You Got and Secret. i also strongly suggest Luckitty Cat (the production is INSANEEE and exy is a crazy good rapper) if you enjoy campy crayon pop orange caramel type music, check out HMPH by their subunit Chocome!
now for Loona.. well, for context, loona has 12 members and 3 subunits (1/3 - 4 members, 1 member with no subunit, odd eye circle - 3 members, yyxy- 4 members). each member also has their own solo
the best solos are, in my opinion: around you, egoist, heart attack, eclipse, new
heart attack has a cute mv with a sapphic love story!! and new's mv also has sapphic themes. yeojin's solo, kiss later, is a cute & catchy song that surprinsingly has lyrics about consent and boundaries
1/3 has ballad music that reminds me of a romance anime opening. my recs would be love & live and sonatine.
odd eye circle has an unmatched discography, it has yet to be bested in ALL of kpop. they have this dreampop, d&b, nostalgic sound to them, every song is a masterpiece. i suggest love letter, girl front, loonatic, uncover, sweet crazy love, and puzzle
yyxy is the last subunit, and i would suggest their title track love4eva and their bside frozen, rosy, d-1
some ot12 songs: hula hoop, hi high (both electrifying and unforgettable) the entirety of # album, colours, where you at, heat, satellite
sorry, i get really passionate about loona lol
as for fromis: if you liked odd eye circle, you will like glass shoes. glass shoes is just incredible. we go sounds like an h&m commercial in the best way possible (feel good too). fun is, well, fun! and love bomb is just insane. it's too good (and it reminds me of klee ^_^)
also you did say you would like more music to listen to, so if you don't mind.. i'll add a few more
yubin - lady. just wow. perfume and game over too (game over is more chill than thise other 2 tho lol
yukika - insomnia and neon. city pop queen!
youha - abittipsy and island. she is such an underrated soloist
you've probably listened to sunmi, but incase you haven't... noir, siren and tail. that's all you need to know.
9muses, the most criminally underrated 2nd gen gg- figaro and ticket. they have a golden discography (more 2nd gen songs, BBB by dalshabet and love options by bestie)
and from gwsn - melting point, starry night, heavy clouds but no rain, tweaks
i know this is super long, so i apologize for that. but if you like any of them, please respond and lmk! i'm very curious to see what you enjoyed
NO ANON youre so hot for sending all these it was a whole essay on kpop AKAHAKA but i appreciate it so much and its so nice to see people getting excited over what they love <3
okay for wjsn i thinm my favorite is secret especially the start with the music and beats and the mv + chorus was all really cool !!!!
LOONA OKAY SO i really liked heart attack its so good imo kiss later is pretty good too IT WAS SO CUTE and i think it trended on tiktok or smt right ?? and if i had to choose a subunit i would pick yyxy and their d-1 song is pretty cool too but honestly i feel like im not really into those calm vibe songs if that makes sense i prefer the noisy chaotic types but its refreshing to listen to calm songs once in a while heart attack is going into my playlist that shit is so good
fromis … im gonna be biased but if herin debuted with them i wouldve stanned but their songs are pretty good tho !!!! WE GO AND LOVE BOMB IS SO GOOD ?? WTF it does have that klee vibe
OKAY FOR THE ONES THAT YOUVE LISTED THAT ARE NOT GROUPS I LOVE YOUHA’S SONGS OMG IM- GONNA CHECK OUT HER OTHER SONGS HOLYSHIT THEYRE SO GOOD
but thanks again anon hehe (///▽///) i had fun listening to them and im still speechless over youha ;-; RECOMMEND ME MORE IF YOU WANT TO OKAY it doesnt have to be kpop anything is fine !!!!!

I want to talk about Godzilla music because I feel like it doesn't get enough love.
Let's talk about Akira Ifukube and how good he was at making music. If you want to I definitely recommend listening to his discography on Spotify, he made most of the songs from the Showa era (which is just a blanket term for all the Godzilla movies from 1954-1975), from what I know most of his works are on there including of course the many Godzilla soundtracks. The main thing I want to focus on is the main 4 themes he composed, that absolutely shape Godzilla music to this very day with Bear McCreary's remasters of many of the songs being based on Akira Ifukube's original works. The first song I want to talk about is "Attack Godzilla" which is commonly known as Godzillas theme, mainly because its used in NEARLY EVERY PIECE OF GODZILLA MEDIA. Which is a great example of how amazing his original score is, as it's stuck around since 1954, and it's so associated with Godzilla, that if you hear the theme the giant atomic lizard is the first thing you think of.
The next song is "Mahara Mothra" any piece of media with Mothra in it will have both this and "Mothra's Song" in it (and "Mahara Mothra" does actually have "Mothra's Song" and a Le Motif). If the Shobijin (Mothra's tiny twin fairies) are there, they are no doubt going to sing "Mothra's Song". Both of these songs are so synonymous with the character of Mothra and are such great representations of it's character, and the Godlike figure she is to the people of Infant Island, the songs are very spiritual in nature and have an almost supernatural tone, to represent that they worship her as a god, and that we have no clue where she even came from, but shes on our side (most of the time).
Next song is "The Birth of King Ghidorah" and I will be honest I am not a fan of it, but I'm putting it here nonetheless to round out the list. It's another song that is synonymous with the character, every incarnation got a remaster of this original theme, and it does good to represent that this is a deadly alien creature the rivals Godzilla himself. It takes Godzilla and 2 other monsters to team up just to get him to retreat, and it took Toho's entire roster of monsters bar like 3, to kill him outright and I feel this theme does well to represent no only how utterly deadly he is but just the mystery that surrounds him, like the first movie he's in it's implied that Venus was populated, by like a super advanced alien civilization and King Ghidorah came along and just razed it completely. But by the end of the movie the one Alien to survive the Venus attack who had been warning everyone about the monsters, the theory was that she hit her head and made up all the stuff about Venus. But it never gets resolved weather or not King Ghidorah just obliterated an ENTIRE CIVILIZATION like it just never comes up in the subsiquent sequel at all, and this theme captures that mystery very well.
The last and possibly my favorite Godzilla theme is "Mechagodzilla Appears" because it just encapsulates how amazing and campy the entire Showa era was. With it's mechanical and sudden intro which perfectly represents the supprise when Mechagodzilla comes out of the fake Godzilla disguise, to the rest of the song which is just an utterly amazing song in general, it's probably just the best song from the Showa era besides "Battle in Outer Space" but that's not from Godzilla, so I'm not gonna talk about it here (still an amazing song though, definitely give it a listen), and the original Godzilla theme. Not only was it a great theme to end off the Showa era being Mechagodzilla's theme in both "Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla" and "Terror of Mechagodzilla" (which is probably the best of the Showa films) but that is also where I'm going to end this off for now, if this post gets enough love maybe I'll do my thoughts on more monster themes. Maybe I'll do Rodan, or Varan, idk depends on if literally anyone wants another one of these.
