I have DNFed more books than I have read so far this year and I'm done being sorry.

I have one rule: the book must be worth the effort I put into reading it. Reading is work and I'm done working for free. If a book cannot, within 100 pages, prove its own worth, then it's not worth reading.

Make me laugh. Make me cry. Fill me with rage on behalf of your characters. Confuse me. Intrigue me. Arouse me. Teach me something. Make me question my problematic worldview. Make me uncomfortable. Affirm my identity. Show me what it's like to be someone other than myself. Give me something more than the sum of the words on the page. To offer a reader anything less is to misrepresent yourself as an author.
