So I’ve always been a Phillie, literally since I started watching them in 2011. I always liked how kind and just overall how caring he was. I loved his sense of humor and his silly anecdotes in his videos. Most of all, I loved that he was always unapologetically himself.

Whenever I forced my real life friends to watch Dan and Phil with me, they would always tell me how similar I am to Phil. For a while I didn’t see it. How could someone I look up to so much be similar to me in anyway?

It wasn’t until Dan and Phil came back with the gaming channel last year that I actually saw it. I saw myself in Phil for the first time. Specifically in the Lethal Company video. Phil kept dying but he didn’t get upset by it really. He was happy to watch Dan play the game. He was a giggly mess the entire time. He was just happy to be included and spend time with people he cares about. Something about that stuck with me.

I’ve never been the nicest to myself and I normally take an instant dislike to anyone who seems too similar to me (toxic I know) but Phil is different. Without even trying, he made me like myself more all because I saw myself in him. I’ve called him an embodiment of sunshine for years and I’ve looked up to him so long because of that. And today, my coworker told me that they and a few others call me sunshine behind my back. I might’ve cried 🤣.

Sometimes I guess all it takes to find beauty in yourself is to love a tall British man who shares that same kind of beautiful.
