okay so theyre both actual play dnd podcasts. basically the people just play dnd and record it and it’s a story and i get wayyyy too invested.

its funny that you chose dndads and critrole because those two podcasts are considered like. the opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to the kind of dnd podcasts out there. they are both very good though

so dndads is the story of a bunch of dads, and their children get transported into a magical world (basically the traditional dnd world) and they have to go rescue their kids. its pretty silly and goofy as far as dnd podcasts go but be warned it will fuck you up. they lure you in with jokes and hahas and then its episode 61 and you are laying on your bedroom floor and crying. anyways thats the premise of season 1. season 2 is the story of those dads grandchildren. i would tell you the premise of season 2 but it would spoil season 1.

now critical role is maybe the most well known dnd podcast? there is. a lot of it and if you are looking to start listening to dnd podcasts i do not recommend starting there. critical role has three separate campaigns (or seasons) and they all take place within the same world but at different times with different characters. if you do want to get into critical role then i think you should start by watching the animated show on amazon prime, the legend of vox machina, which is based on the first campaign. i know, they have an animated show. there is sooooo much content in critrole, and each campaign has over a hundred episodes with each episode being 4 hours long.

now if you want to start listening to dnd podcasts i think a good place to start is naddpod (full name is not another dnd podcast) i think it might be my favorite (although choosing a favorite is like choosing a favorite child) but yeah naddpod has a good balance of serious dnd and silly goofy stuff. there are multiple campaigns but their first one is the bahumia campaign and it is very good, 10/10, highly recommend

Alright here's my semi thought out rambling on the contenders of who could adopt Billy Batson.

Keep in mind, this is not based on the Shazamily Billy, but the homeless kid Billy who spent years running away from his abusive uncle, and then multiple foster homes, and squats in apartments.

BatFam: IMO, they would immulate a foster home too much for Billy's comfort. A large home with multiple bodies, all of them having their own issues and lives that Billy would either feel excluded from or strive to help too much. Likewise, to have all those eyes - especially as the Batfam - watching him and being aware of his every move would be incredibly invasive for him. Billy is an independent kid, but hes not a crime fighter like the batkids, so the others would try to help him in any and every way possible, that would inevitably push Billys boundaries. The family stability is questionable, but the loyalty is definitely something Billy needs. So i think theyd be best as like, the friends home Billy stays at sometimes. Not to mention its Gotham. That city is not for Captain Marvel.

Constantine: lmao. Listen. I love this disaster in a trenchcoat disguised as a wreck of a man, but he should not be in any parental role. Him and Billy work out bc they are around each other in doses. They're complete opposites in methods and morals, and continued exposure would do them both harm. Likewise, when John truly cares for someone he pushes them away bc everyone around him gets hurt. He actively chooses to hurt them sometimes, if theyre not used against him. It doesn't matter that Billy is Captain Marvel and can withstand more than John can throw. John will self destruct and keep Billy away. And that is what would hurt Billy most. Bc he would feel abandoned and unwanted, and that kid has too many issues surrounding that in particular. He needs a stable environment and Constantine can not provide that in the long run - especially in a domestic sense. They're wayyy better off as friends, or magical mentor/mentee.

Superman: The biggest obstacle here is Clark's insistence that Billy remain a child and live a normal life instead of being Captain Marvel. Even if Clark relents to having Billy be Marvel and stay on JL, it would be a continuous struggle for both of them. Not only bc Clark does not know how to be a parent, but also Billy would have a very hard time adjusting. Compared to the other two, I'd say Clark is the most stable, but perhaps not stable enough. Journalism and Superman take up a lot of Clark's time, and he'd really struggle with balancing having Billy too - especially if this is pre-Jon. What's more, unlike Jon, Billy's duties and abilities are different. Despite Superman understanding personal wants vs greater duties, he could not help with Marvel's duties, as much as he'd want to. And I think that would really stress Clark out. Not to mention gaining Billy's trust once its lost is an uphill battle. Cap can work just fine with Superman, but Billy would be a feral kitten - another differing aspect Clark would struggle to grasp. I think there's potential here, esp with help from Lois and Mama Kent, but they're both on such different wave lengths beneath the shallow surface, that they'd struggle with cohabitation and being a 'family' more than one would think.

Wonder Woman: Gonna be honest, I think she's the best candidate for taking Billy in. Not only does she understand Cap's duties from a divine perspective, but she's taken on such monumental tasks. She gave up living on her home island to do her divine warrior duty, but then she found balance in remaking her home life as Diana Prince. She had a loving mother and community that raised her, which she'd draw inspiration from for Billy. There'd be a balance of knowing he's a child that needs protection and he's a chosen champion that needs to learn how to protect others (and himself) - honestly, the same balance Diana's mother had to find for her, which she'd realize with Billy. Itd be a familial connection she has greatly missed since Amazon. And tbh I think Cap and Billy are on the same page with WW - respect and admiration and trust, and that divine tie of being gifted by the Gods (Zeus specifically). Plus being handled without kiddie gloves and respected as a hero would be something Billy greatly appreciates.

the two of you would have adorable set ups that match or are total opposites of each other. probably a room dedicated for just gaming. maybe you push him to start streaming on twitch / youtube and yall become the most adored gaming couple EVER.

honestly even if you don't play ff, toasty would still be interested into what you play. he'd probably try it out as well, just to see if he would like it. if he did, he would happily play it with you! but if it wasn't his cup of tea, he'd still happily hear you talk about your game's lore/characters you have. even if he didn't understand because they are head over HEELS for you

that being said, it would be hard if you are introverts. because he . too is an introvert :') but he'd still take charge if a situation arises and you physically and emotionally cannot do anything about it. toaster- beet red, blushing and flustered- trying to perform an extroverted task just for you. he is a KEEPER.

if you were an extrovert, great! balance is there. you do the things required to talk to people, and he provides you with undying love (not that he wouldn't do that already).

if you weren't a gamer though, dont worry! toasty is in love with you, not the fact that you game. whatever you were interested, he'd definitely look into it. like the game, he'd still be happy to listen to whatever you have to talk about if it means he gets to hear you talk and see you happy.

you'd see him shifting in your lap, making it obvious he wants you to run your fingers through your hair (and truthfully you have to physically stop yourself because you would unconsciously do it if you didn't). he ties and takes off his hair tie, making sure you got the hint. he'd pout when he catches on that oh theyre doing this on purpose aren't they and eventually you'd just burst into laughter, and toasty would go all red, embarassed that you'd pull that on him.

OKOKK A THOUGHT: sitting on his lap when he games.

the first time that happens he's going to be so rigid its like sitting on a solid chair. how can they be so solid like this. give them time, about a few months, and toasty would start to warm up to you.

but imagine before he does, he's just so rigid. his hands on the keyboard stiff as well. if he games with xyx on call all xyx could hear are occasional stutters and stammering. he'd have a straight face- toast was good at hiding his emotions like that- but he'd be so red. he wouldn't know when to move. or what to do. was the way he was breathing comfortable? was it okay move his arms so much? would yelling annoy you? and all those things.

but after a while, when toast would realize that nothing he do would really bother you, he'd be more relaxed.

you'd sit on his lap, chest to chest with your chin resting on his shoulders as you mindlessly scroll on your phone, fingers mindlessly running through his hair.

or with your back to him, his head resting on your chin as you watch him game. the silence filled with occasionally one of the two of your's comments would be enough. you'd laugh at something you find online, or cheer at his playing; and that's all it takes for him to fall deeper in love with you.

abraxas huffed in annoyance and accepted the call. he balanced the phone between his shoulder and ear, immediately bringing both hands back to the broom handle.

“yes?!”

“me-oww someone is in a feisty mood.” the blonde rolled his eyes.

“well it’s kind of hard texting while flying 300 feet in the sky!”

“tsk tsk,” nott tutted, “well, what do you see?”

“umm…” malfoy levitated the binoculars to his eyes. “I see (y/n)….and….AND RIDDLE!” he screamed, nearly dropping both devices.

“what?!” not said equally surprised.

“wait is that malfoy?” lestrange sounded from the background. “didn’t i tell you guys to leave (y/n) alone? if she doesn’t want to study with us she doesn’t want to study with us.”

“so sneaking around with tom riddle is better than hanging out with us?”

“what?! those two hate each other—put the phone on speaker.” lestrange instructs.

“are they dueling or fighting, malfoy? because i will hex that curly headed f…”

but abraxas wasn’t listening. he was too intrigued by the sight of tom and his friend being in the same room not trying to tear each other’s heads off.

“they’re talking…civilly…” he says to himself, squinting into the binoculars. (y/n) said something, and tom seemed to disagree, crossing his arms over his chest.

“talking?” nott asked in confusion, snapping the broom flyer out of his trance.

the (h/c) girl turned away, only for riddle to grab your arm and pull you toward him, connecting your guy’s lips.

“OH MY MERLIN THEYRE KISSING!”

“WHAT?!” but there was no time to elaborate.

an odd sound flew past abraxas’ right ear. then it flew the opposite direction past his left ear. it was the sound of flapping.

it was a bat.

“they’re kissing??!!” his friends exclaimed.

“whaa-“ he swerved on his broom, swatting the animal away. his binoculars dropping in the process making him curse.

“abraxas what is happening?” reinhard asked.

“its…it’s…a bat!” he said in between swats.

the two boys on the other end heard the creatures shrieking, and their friend’s too as a matter of fact.

“it’s pecking at me now!” the boy squealed, trying to sneak a squint at the window again only to find them gone.

“it’s probably the pumpkin pasties in your pocket!” nott spoke loudly over the commotion.

“what?!”

“i put them in your pocket in case you got hungry after practice!” he explained, earning a judgmental look from reinhard.

after what seemed like hours of wrestling, malfoy was finally able to retrieve the pastry and throw it like a frisbee, the bat chasing it like an obedient dog.

letting out a sign in relief, which only lasted for a second, his hand slipped forward causing him to lose balance.

caught off guard, abraxas screamed his way down the 300 feet. his friends on the other end hearing his cry get quieter and louder. quieter and louder, as him and the phone fell in and out of sync. the slytherin began to say his final prayers.

“dear merlin, or sky, or constellations, or whatever my grandparents believe in. i’m sorry i put hair dissolve in avery’s shampoo and for being a shitty quidditch player. please let my parents know i-“

by miracle, malfoys body came to a half before his face could meet the earth. his body levitating inches above the ground.

when he looked up to thank his savior, he was met with an expressionless tom holding his wand out and a disappointed (y/n).

“well hello, tom. come here often?” he grinned, before his body hit the ground with a thud.

Katherine hasn't had a friend like Faith since Isobel.

Now what do i mean by that? Since Isobel and Faith are only minorly similar?

I mean a friend she actually trusts. Someone she isn't just waiting to turn on her. Faith and Katherine get each other in a way that no one else can, because theyre so similarly traumatized and routinely betrayed by those they were supposed to be able to trust.

Theyre almost polar opposites in strengths and weaknesses but they balance each other out. It terrifies katherine, how much she trusts faith, because while she is confident Faith would never sell her out to Klaus? She isn't sure she wouldn't sell Faith out.

Not that she WANTS TO- no. Shes afraid it will happen like second nature. She wont even think about it, because its so fundamentally ingrained in her that Katherine is terrified she will do it accidentally.

Or that Klaus will kill faith, simply for being Katherine's friend.

Why not? He's killed everyone else shes close to. Anyone who dared care about her.

Theres a lot of fear in their relationship, a lot of tempered glass spiderwebbing under their feet, just from circumstances alone. But Katherine wants to be the friend Faith deserves, because faith is the friend Katherine deserves. And for once you know? It's be nice for the give and take to be god damned equal for both of them.

okay! so 

i sort of constructed it as an argument in two halves -- the first half with jimmy on the defensive, and the second where he goes on the offensive. so i’ll talk about the second half here!

“And maybe this time that’d be it,” she says. “No more magic rescues left. No more miraculous big brothers to bend the rules just for you. No more special treatment for Jimmy McGill.” 

Jimmy clenches his teeth. He presses his knuckles against the hard countertop. Breathes around the blade that’s appeared between his ribs, cold and hard and unyielding. 

Maybe it’s a blade he put there himself. Maybe it’s been there this whole time, trying to cut out that piece of him—trying to hack away at his insides and leave only the clean parts, cauterised and sterile. And all for—what, for this? For his hands, pale and bony, pressed to Kim’s countertop, wrists bare. A year of straight-and-narrow mailroom work, and months of college, months of no sleep and study and bus rides and listening—and still that old skin clings to him.

And everyone still sees it clinging there, still sees it no matter how hard he tries to wash it off. No matter how many hair cuts he gets or new shirts he buys or new words he learns. 

And everyone will always see it. Even, apparently— 

He looks up, cold.

i usually try not to quote such big chunks in these BUT this is the shift i was talking about, so i’ve just whacked it up there in one go. this was really hard to write. when i planned this chapter, i had a bunch of scattered notes (as i usually do) but they felt very hard to mesh together. how could i get to jimmy’s “do you love me? i’ll say it first, if you like” from the first section where he’s desperately trying to fix this. those words are not really something you say if you’re still trying to fix something.  

and so that section above ended up as the shift. i hope it makes sense. kim is worried about him. kim didn’t approach this very well at all, but everything she’s saying above is her expressing her fear about what he’s been up to these past few months. 

i hope that fear also goes some way to explaining why she’s compartmentalised it for so long, too. i think it’s very very easy to put off having a confrontation until tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow, etc if you’re scared that you’re going to get an answer you really don’t want to hear. 

(but of course she also starts to get a bit crueller and pettier right before the shift, as she starts talking about chuck and jimmy’s special treatment. i think it’s born out of that fear, and anger that jimmy’s put her through this for what now seems like nothing -- some college classes, but it’s still a little knife directed at jimmy there._

but jimmy doesn’t take the “i knew you were hiding something and you kept lying about where you were going and i was worried you were getting into trouble again” as kim’s love/concern for him, he just feels betrayed. he’s had a year of kim never really bringing up slippin’ jimmy like that, after a lifetime of chuck and his family and (presumably) his past relationships always waiting for the other shoe to drop. he thought kim, who’s never even met that guy (like he says in acb), was different. 

so that is, i hope, the shift here. jimmy locks down again -- he’s definitely not going to tell kim the full truth now -- and he goes on the offensive. starts blaming kim:

And he finally says, quietly, “I’m just doing what you told me to do, Kim.”

Her eyes cut to him. “What?” 

when i wrote this chapter i didn’t know that i was going to open the next one with the white sands flashback, but i DID know that kim hadn’t said that, and that jimmy knew it too. but like i said, offensive. 

and even though kim hadn’t asked jimmy to fit himself around the obstacles of her life like that, she did let it happen. she encouraged it, at least through her actions. but i think it’s easier to see how kim is treating jimmy unfairly because we’re looking at it through jimmy’s eyes, so that seems less interesting to talk about here, maybe? 

“Sure! Little movie here, little sleepover there. Whatever you can spare. Handouts.” 

“Jimmy, Jesus,” she says, reeling back. Her eyes are briefly vulnerable, hurt. She shakes her head, slowly, then says, “So you’re blaming me? You lie to me for months and somehow that’s my fault?”

the other thing i thought about writing this is how theyre operating from completely different sets of information, each not quite aware how how much the other person is missing. 

jimmy was so scared of kim drifting away he decided to follow her down her path. and even though he has no reason to think kim wouldn’t support him, he’s already built this lawyer journey up into such a be-all-end-all of self fulfilment and relationship fulfilment (yall ever had a moment of enlightenment atop a mountain? no? just jimmy??) that he closed himself off until he could manufacture some kind of Exhibit A proof that he was capable of doing it and not have it just be the vague goal of slippin’ jimmy, shit in school, hasn’t done a hard day’s work in his life etc etc.  

and so he’s spent months dropping everything for her, while sacrificing his own brand shiny new goal, in this weird conundrum of damaging the present relationship for the sake of the future relationship, then damaging the future relationship for the sake of the present, over and over. logically jimmy knows kim isn’t aware of this, but i think emotionally we still often resent people for not being able to read our minds or respond as if they DO have all the information.  

and kim’s operating from a totally different set of info. i think until recently she felt like they had struck some kind of balance (and wow if only they’d talked about it). i don’t mean to say she didn’t act carelessly or selfishly through this whole thing, of course she did, and she left jimmy out in the cold in the name of protecting herself (which is what i wanted to show jimmy doing, too!!) but around the time acb ends, kim thinks they’ve found an unspoken equilibrium, that they have something good that makes each of their lives better -- and she doesn’t realise that jimmy’s immediate fear is that as soon as she leaves the mailroom behind she’s going to leave him behind, too. 

so i think she really underestimates jimmy’s insecurities here, both about the relationship and about bettering himself. acb jimmy is definitely a real angsty boi, but one thing writing that little kim POV oneshot recently helped me show was the idea that he’s very good at putting up a cocky/cool front. he’s so scrappy. i think it was easier for kim to justify this bits-and-pieces relationship with the jimmy she saw than it would be to justify it with the jimmy whose head we’ve been inside. 

But Kim continues, spluttering, “When—hell, Jimmy, when have I ever been anything less than honest about our relationship?”

for kim i think it was more important she never promise him anything she couldn’t give. instead she ended up giving much more than her promise. 

here comes more rambling, but i guess this comes down to an argument of show vs tell. but not only that, just like they’re working from different sets of information, they each therefore think they’ve shown the other person more than the other person’s actually seen. 

i do think kim has this kind of self-evident approach to love that means far more to her than words could. After a long moment, she says, “Jimmy, you already know…” -- I’m not exactly sure what the end of this sentence was going to be, but probably something like “you already know how much i care about you”. how could you not? i put everything on hold to run off into the night with you, or just a diner -- i let you see me vulnerable, terrified of failing the bar exam -- i let you into my life. 

kim’s been more vulnerable around jimmy than he has around her, i think? 

jimmy’s vulnerable around us, around the readers, but kim walks to his apartment or lets her emotions out w/ fireworks or tells him she’s scared of blanking during the exam or comes to his place at 3am for sex when she thinks she’s failed... and so far when jimmy’s felt most vulnerable he’s got pretty internal and outwardly crueller/more closed off. maybe other than the cicero phone call?

so as kim’s thinking about that, and as jimmy’s standing there saying “what do i know? WHAT do i know?” and, from kim’s point of view, maybe acting as if everything she’s shown him means less to him than what the words would mean -- and i think, kim’s always understood the inverse to be true -- that what you DO matters more than what you SAY. that it’s better to act with love than just say you love someone. 

(jimmy, i think, must to some degree operate by the opposite of that -- because how else can you get through 40 years of life where chuck mcgill acts the way chuck mcgill DOES but says “you’re my brother, and i love you” enough that you think you have a loving brother)

god, i think i could maybe talk about this scene forever. i don’t want to drown you in tangents. this has ended up less commentary-esque and more as a vomit of thoughts. 

i’m really worried i missed something -- maybe if there’s specific lines you guys are more interested in you could drop an ask? 

overall, i wanted this argument to have two understandable sides and no obvious bad guy. but jimmy at the daring kim to say she loves him, offering to say it first... i worried people would hate him too much to keep reading 😂

Hes in his late 50s early 60s current time( where virgil is 21 and andy is 13)

Hes also a published and well established fiction writer, but he writes under an alias

Hes a super supportive dad and teacher, even if he doesnt understand it he'll 100% support the decisions his kids make (ex: "oh your wiccan now? Cool virgy! Im glad you found a religion that makes you happy, though...can you explain it to me again?" "Oh andy you want to be switched to the art program? No problem! I'll call your counsellors tomorrow ok?" "Oh boyfriend huh? Thats great buddy, when do i get to meet him??")

Hes got a deep hearty laugh that makes you smile

Hes a skeptic but loves listening to and talking to virgil about his beliefs

He loves his family alot and loves babysitting his little brother Thomas whenever his schedule allows it, especially during times of year Emile and Remy get swamped with work

He loves to knit and sew and make things!!! He makes sweaters and jackets and dresses and customizes clothes!! He could make a living on it if he really wanted!! (but he just does it for friends and loved ones instead- Andy has a hoodie that Patton sew wool on the inside to keep him warm and Andy adores it)

Hes really outgoing and friendly and seems to make friends wherever he goes! 

He’s known Roman since they were kids and was crushing on him all through school until they got together senior year

Hes engaged to Remy Sanders and once their married their just going to combine their last names

He loves cartoons and gardening! And has his own collection of stuffed animals and toys(which hes been sharing with Thomas) 

He loves making dad jokes and him and Patton make them all the time at Ethen

Hes a damn great cook and has been teaching his boys to cook for years now, and loves making big meals

The youngest! Hes 8 years old!

Our boy loves to read and write! He writes tons and tons of stories!

Hes got a huge imagination and likes to daydream

Hes bubbly even though he isnt the most social he still has a good group of friends!

Our lil boi is an actor of course! He loves getting parts in the school plays and in class assignments.

Hes in his schools choir  and gets vocal lessons from Roman’s mama

 His room is filled with toys and books and notebooks and pencils, and even though he tries his best to keep it clean it gets messy every week.(cleaning it is his weekly chore)

He has two best friends named Joan and Talyn that hes been friends with now since kindergarden and theyve been nearly inseperable ever since, its not uncommon for one of both of them to be at each others house on any given weekend

Hes Remy’s kid but has started calling himself by Emile’s last name too since they moved in with the Picani’s

Doesnt have too many memories of his mother but the ones he does have are all happy and pleasant(thankfully)

Calls Emile baba and Remy dada to distinguish them better

Loves his older brothers especially when they play with him, He also loves watching the old videos of Ethen’s theater performances and sometimes pesters him to reenact scenes from them( his favorite is the middle school production of ‘Alice in Wonderland’)

Ethen Picani

Our other main boy, hes also twenty one

He lives with his best and childhood friend Remus Prince in two bedroom apartment across town near the college

Does youtube full time for a living

the “black sheep” of the family as he and Remus call him 

He majored in theater in his two years of college

Loves reptiles but doesnt have any because their apartment complex doesnt allow pets and he doesnt want to get him and remus kicked out since their apartment is close to Remus’s work

Has a car he loving refers to as his “hand me down junk heap” Because he got Patton’s first car when patton got a new one

He loves the old thing though 

Has a good relationship with his parents. He loves his dad Emile and he likes Remy well enough

Him and remy have a very casual, relaxed relationship.( Ex: “ Dad you need to stop letting sleepless bums into the house” “ He’ll stop doing that when he stops letting punk wannabes into his kitchen, now get over here kid.” ) 

Loves his boyfriend Virgil to death and likes to spoil him when he can(even though virgil tells him to save his money for rent)

Hes more of a open skeptic but he’ll happily debate things with Virgil, and enjoys making videos for their joint youtube channel and being proven otherwise

He also has his own solo youtube channel where he does abandon urban exploration( sometimes with Remus tagging along for the thrill)

Remus has been calling him by the nickname “Dee” since middle school when they played Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. Remus called him Dee so often he made it stick as a nickname years and years later. He refuses to let it die and Ethen has just accepted his fate

Remy Sanders

Hes around Emile’s age( mid 50′s) and looks the tallest in the family at 6′3

He came into the family later, when the boys were about 20 and 18( when thomas was about 5 or so)

Hes pretty laid back but surprising good at being strict, so he balances out Emile’s parenting style

Hes a divorcee and got guardianship of Thomas, though hes on a friendly and civil relationship with thomas’s mother and takes him to visit her three times a month( theyre currently working out more visitations and possibly thomas staying with his mother a couple weeks every months but thats still in the works)

Hes an insomiac and (usually) works night shifts as a security guard for a security renting business so his working hours can be a little unpredicitble, but he almost always works at least two night shifts and graveyard shifts a week. Hes paid both a salary plus an additional commissions by employers so its well worth it

He spends as much time with his kid and the boys as he can regardless of his wonky sleep schedule

Hes a bit of a tough love kinda person, and hes snarky and mouthy and doesnt hesitate to speak his mind

Loves Emile soooo goddamn much he talks about him alot at work to his fellow security guards. Theyre the ones who helped him pick a ring when he proposed actually

Oh yeah the two are engaged did I mention that?

He fuels Emile’s plushie collecting, even if he knows he probably shouldnt( But oh well, it makes him smile and thats all he wants to see)

Looks punk now but he was the biggest straight laced prep in highschool that comparing him now to him in highschool gives you whiplash

Would fucking die for his family. No one messes with his fiance or his kids, he doesnt care if two of them are fully capable adults

Stud and Pop!! Like we all know it won't lead anywhere but imagine if it did. Both are similar in a lot of ways and imagine if slowly but surely they'd find understanding and eventually comfort in one another like!! When will we ever get that, two flawed faves discovering how does it feel to love and be loved in return

hiiii anon!!! zChdbdif STUDPOP YESSSSS!!! like yo their flavour ... the VIBES. all of it is just so immaculate and juicy. they're 2 absolutely VERY similar people and listen i KNOW opposites attract but .... the tension u get when someone IS similar to u bc they CAN read u and KNOW ur ways and how that WINDS u up but at the same time u feel so SEEN by them??? its SUCH GOOD tension. and THATS what studpop have between them. like theyre both into each other on a very shallow basis and BOTH of them know what they want and what the other wants from their "alliance" ... theyre absolutely transparent about it .... and they BOTH KNOW what kinda people they are. theyre flawed and petty and stubborn and unapologetic and have too much ego. but thats where they cancel one another out ... or rather ... have a balance between them. there's no power hold of one over the other. and thats what makes them both fun! they both bark and they both bite!

anyway like u said theyre literally not even gonna go anywhere and we All know how its gonna end but studpop ARE FUN! and i LOVE fun! and im gonna soak in as much as i get of them 2!!!

im gonna talk about! marney and topaz! their characters and relationship and how having pepper changed things for them. this is rly long but it feels good to write it all out

- marney and topaz have a rly complex relationship thats full of support and like...give-and-take. neither has more control over the other. theyre both stubborn in their own ways and strive to please one another thru compromise. their relationship has a lot of hard work behind it their bond is super strong and loving

- topaz is very level headed and relaxed while marney is more of a worrier and feels her emotions a bit more intensely. topaz works as a gardener while marney works in construction. both are pretty large trolls with a good amount of strength, being half giant troll. they spent a while working in the same general areas and flirting by trying to show off their strength to each other before topaz was like “hey do you wanna. hang out” bhjdfksd. they were both around 20-21 when they started dating

- they got married young (24-25 y/o) and lived with each other at the troll tree. they both had wanted kids for a while but marney was too nervous for a really long time to have a baby while they both were still at the troll tree. worried about one or both of them getting eaten and not being there to raise the baby, the trolling pod getting damaged or ripped apart, the baby getting taken, etc. marney has some real demons when it comes to close family members getting taken from her

- topaz managed to convince her after she showed marney this rly secluded, safe little hole in the tree that they thought would be safe from the bergens. they planted their little hair seed and took rly good care of the pod plant! they were both super excited to finally start a little family, even with the grim situation. by that time almost all of their own family had been eaten except for topaz’s brother (who i have not developed at all but he’s eve’s father) so the stress of literally just staying alive was a lot but they wanted to really try and be there for their baby. things were going so well they actually started planning to plant a second (and third) hair seed

- around the 2 months 1 week point (i headcanon that trollings take about 3 months/12 weeks to develop in the pod) the pod had started to turn a really bright red color, which easily attracted the attention of chef. marney and topaz hid and thought their trolling pod was hidden well enough while chef came thru to take more trolls, and they were absolutely horrified when they saw chef rooting around in the knothole in the tree that the trolling pod was in with her fingers trying to grab it. chef just ended up like giving up and moving on to other, more accessible trolls eventually and marney and topaz just had to sit and wait until she left before they could go and check on the pod

- topaz and marney are both So Devastated when they see the pod all smashed and dying. topaz feels guilty for pushing marney to start a family when she was scared and now both their worst fears were just confirmed. theyre torn to pieces and just sit there with the crushed pod crying

- but then!!!! they hear a little baby crying!! inside the pod that they thought was crushed was a tiny babby......very premature, like she doesnt have all her color yet, her ears are crinkled up, hardly any hair, eyes arent even open yet, but shes alive!! and theyre both just completely overjoyed and take her back to their own pod immediately to make sure she’s okay since baby trollings laugh when theyre born, they dont cry (shes fine just scared/upset that she was kicked out of the pod so early lmao)

- marney becomes incredibly protective over baby pepper. topaz is protective too, but marney is next level. that baby is by her side almost 24/7. all wrapped up tight in a little blanket, tucked up in her hair. topaz wants to tell marney to calm down, but she still feels guilty over the entire situation, so she lets marney be a total helicopter parent for a while

- once pepper is at the level of development she shouldve been, marney does relax a tiny bit. pepper is still rly tiny and her ears never quite straightened out (which is why theyre kinda bent in her design) but shes plumped up and got a cute lil afro and marney’s eyes! they both love this happy lil baby to death

- as pepper gets older topaz and marney continue to disagree on parenting styles. topaz wants to let pepper live and learn, let her fall down and learn to pick herself back up, let her learn from experience. marney wants to keep pepper as safe as possible and wants her by marney’s side at all times. she hovers over pepper when shes learning to walk, freaks out if she does normal baby stuff like cough a little when eating or spits up or falls, and has trouble with leaving her alone for any length of time. marney argues that shes keeping their only child safe, while topaz argues that marney is doing the opposite by sheltering pepper

- this disagreement and the bad first experience with raising a trolling pod squashes out any want for more babies, which makes them both sad honestly

- once the troll tree escape happens and they make themselves comfortable in the new village (pepper is around 1-2 years old at this point), marney calms down considerably, feeling that the biggest threat to her family is gone. topaz is really glad to see her wife chill out and they both work together to raise pepper

- pepper’s rebellious years (13-16) are not received well by marney, who can do nothing but worry, but topaz is a little more relaxed about it. she recognizes that pepper is exploring some identities and is reacting to marney’s overprotective parenting. she doesnt let pepper get away with EVERYTHING but shes more lenient and understanding. this really annoys marney who just has the worst feeling that something bad is going to happen to pepper eventually if she keeps up this wild behavior. marney was also not thrilled when pepper got her motorcycle

- cue pepper’s bike crash, and marney is back to being obsessive with keeping her safe. topaz is also back to feeling guilty, feeling like if she had listened to marney and been a little stricter with pepper she wouldnt be in this situation. this is probably the heaviest, roughest part of marney and topaz’s relationship/marriage. it took pepper 1.5 years to recover fully (between the initial bodily trauma, physical therapy, and emotional/mental damage) and it took marney and topaz half of that time to not be so upset with each other, talk things out openly and honestly, and work together to be there for their daughter

- fast forward to the present. pepper hasnt lived with her parents for 4-5 years and is independent. marney and topaz are both proud of her and each other! marney is careful to not be so overbearing anymore, but can slip up and be a total worrier still. topaz does her best to not carry any guilt regarding the emotional toll on marney from pepper’s haphazard pod delivery/crash and the toll the crash took on pepper. she does sometimes wish she was a bit more careful like marney, but figures that together they balance each other out quite well. they have a lot more open communication about their wants/needs/feelings

- marney and topaz live together happily and love each other very much!!!

god i love the romance genre so much. comedy... drama.... soul crushing dperession. hits all the right spots! granted, if im reading it i do tend to lean more towards the depressing stories. movies i love a good romcom but books? i need that sweet sweet angst

if my shipping habits are anything to go by, my number 1 kink is the two characters have to be opposites of each other to some extent. even if they share a lot of the same interests or personality traits, there has to be some fundamental difference. usually its character A is a big sarcastic grump who looks at the world through a very pessimistic lens while character B is more upbeat or at least provides a good balance, offers up a more optimistic view, brings warmth and sunshine into A’s life.... beautiful 🤧

i have a huge thing for lifelong best friends turned lovers but that really only works for same sex couples. i never really got into that for the hets lol high school sweethearts i’ll accept for them. but also... enemies to lovers? enemies to friends to lovers? friends to lovers to enemies to lovers? mmmm love that. theres a lot to play with there

fake dating tropes are always a delight! especially when the two characters supposedly hate each other/arent supposed to get along. but one always ends up catching feelings and gets jealous and doesnt know why. sexy. 

also its no secret i love a doomed romance. so if somebodys gotta die.... they gotta die.... or maybe both characters live but its just not in the cards for them to be together. bad timing always catching them. the whole ~in another life they couldve worked~ hurts me so good.

listen... i love to be sad. i know tumblr seems to be in this movement of making everything happy and i just cannot relate to that. im not opposed to happy endings but... if given the choice.... id pick the depressing book over the happy book.

as far as specific moments, whew... i love really heated fights. in a variety of ways. declarations of love slipping out for the first time in the middle of an argument. two characters with all these pent up emotions just lashing out each other physically because theres years of hurt theyve kept to themselves (although admittedly for that one you gotta keep in same sex. its not the same when a man and woman are beating the shit out of each other lmao unless its like mr and mrs smith style and THAT... is sexy. or like the notebook when allys just wailing on noah and he just takes it. such a good scene. im starting to wonder if my favorite romantic tropes are deemed problematique by everyone else lmao. good thing i dont care)

really what it boils down to is i love raw emotion. pining!!!! oh god im such a slut for pining.... unrequited love.... when a character is just... aching to be with the other one. always on the sidelines but still close enough that theyre involved. and it makes it so much worse cuz theyll have moments where it could be construed as romantic but the other character maybe doesnt have the same feelings, theyre just affectionate. or they DO have the same feelings but are also too scared to say anything. a lot of almosts and maybes....

characters who have to sneak around to be together.... love that. not cheating tho. no adultery ugh. bleh. i mean... im not entirely opposed to it. if its a situation where its gay people forced into heterosexual lifestyles and then go behind their partners back... im fine with that lol but then you gotta make sure the partner is an asshole cuz then i just end up feeling bad for them. theres nuances here you have to consider. best to just not bring cheating into it. theres a million reasons already for why two people cant be together. waring families is a hot one just saying.... romeo and juliet is popular for a reason.

anyway as you can probably tell i really fucking love romance and could talk about this shit all day but i hope this has helped you out lol i feel like i didnt even crack the surface... god theres so much. one last thing i’ll throw out while im remembering: i REALLY fucking love when two characters are held hostage and forced to hurt each other. and theres a lot of resistance, a lot of crying, a lot of yelling, a lot of guilt.... i loved the debut mini album, everything looks so beautiful! congratulations to who made the edits because theyre stunning! i also find the manager so cute ahhhh that's really a good thing for the group! it feels so real!also, im very curious about skitz first impression of mina, theyre pretty different in character and i was wondering how it went for them ahahah(and yes yueliang, you should try to get closer to haechan! go get your man girl) 💃

Yooo! So first off, THANK YOU SO MUCH! The girls worked so hard on those edits and I couldnt be more proud of them for it! AJ, Luna and Mina are the talents behind most of our edits! (Not to be THAT person. But really I believe my girls are seriously the BEST! We're all so talented I just....it brings a tear to my eye...) - and I was the one to set up the original blog design and first layout!

Isn't the manager so cute though?! Jeez I tell him every day and he just keeps hiding from me! I even chase him around the company half the time trying to get him to listen and he-*manager appears and covers her mouth* that's enough from her about that....

Now let's see.....my first impression of Mina? Hmm....I didn't know how far she'd make it actually. See when I first met Mina, it was during an audition. I'd snuck out of practice to see the recruits. And saw her quietly camping herself up for her audition. I'll be honest, I can't remember if I walked up and said something or not but I think in that moment I just kinda saw her as a quiet and nervous girl, but I promised myself if she did make it that I'd definitely help her the best I could.

hi it’s Mina !! 🌿 you would think that Skitz and me don’t work together that well because we do seem like polar opposites - but we balance each other out quite well! She makes me let loose more often, while I calm her down when needed. But there are times when we fuel each other maybe a bit too much (we are both Gemini, after all) and the other members need to step in and tell us off just so we won’t overdue it with the jokes and teasing 🤭 honestly, I wouldn’t be able to do half the stuff I do without Skitz - she just completes me in a sense...? She helps me remember that I don’t have to be the collected, responsible and level-headed leader at all times, but that it‘s also okay for me to be a young woman having fun and being crazy from time to time too 😊 and I’ll soon share my story of how the first (real) meeting of Skitz and me actually went down... so stay tuned! 💞

Why do you ship Wyndolliday? (I'm totally expecting the three page essay)

well first let me lead you to my previous post on the subject

and second, i will explain with pleasure. (under a read more cause WOW that got long)

so, ill start this with the honesty that im not a big fan of just wyndoc on its own. just in the name of transparency and to elucidate on authorial bias. also because it is relevant in how i see wyndolliday.

so anyway.

first off, just from a representation standpoint the universe could use a great and sweet poly ship on tv. and a bisexual black man. and just two bisexual men who arent just ‘in a phase’  or any other bullshit (also wynonna is alsways headcanoned by me as pan, but thats not super relevant to this. just putting it out into the universe)

secondly, i think that wyndolliday as a relationship balance each other out really well. in theory any two of them could make a decent relationship pair, though again i would have to keep an eye on wyndoc cause im not sure they bring out the best in each other, but again again thats besides the point and ill admit those two have potential. now, i will get into all the relationship dynamics as i see it, with a prelude about when i first started to see this as like a thing for me:

 so honestly it was the season finale where dolls and doc finally got over their dick measuring contest and got all bff bromance on screen. previously i kinda thought about doc and dolls both dating wynonna and not each other, all consensually and whatnot. though that would require the character development that made dolls and doc not wanna murder each other necessary much the same. but when i saw them on screen getting seriously bromantic i was like “....ah. i dig it.”. plus there was that prompt from the wynonna earp official twitter about the “ghost river triangle” pairing. so that made me think it more too.

now for the dynamics (how they fit and why i think being in the ot3 would be good for them): first - wynonna and doc. like i said earlier, this makes me a little wary. the reasons being as follows: they can bring out the worst in each other and doc is shown to be very willing to manipulate wynonna. but they are also two people who i see as being very emotionally raw. theyre like exposed wires, dangerous and volatile and pouring all their feelings out in every action. they can find in each other another person who processes and expresses themselves in similar ways, who have both faced hardships and come out on the other side a little bitter and a little self-loathing. they see themselves as survivors first and foremost, but they both know what it means to love someone who tries to fight for /good/ and /morals/ (waverly for wynonna, wyatt for doc). and they would be able to find healing for themselves by helping and standing by and experiencing someone else healing from similar wounds in similar ways. sort of like a third-person perspective of themselves. combined with the ease with which people can sometimes face issues when they arent directly their own. they would be emotionally open and provide the same level of emotional openness and comfort they both require. they would probably be able to help each other through emotional times, but on the other hand they are both runners by nature (even if they try not to do that now. even now that theyre “heroes”) so would they turn to each other in hard times? or would they run? would they fear sharing themselves because they might make the other run? and their shared nature makes it easy for them to get caught up in things, get battered around and make things not feel very stable. doc would also be someone who would be willing to go all out and risk anything /do/ anything for his chosen few. wynonna would thrive with someone who would always put her first above everyone else, cause she doesnt even do that for herself. and wynonna represents hope and a future to doc, and at the same time a connection to his past. she’s bitter adn battered and she’s been through hell, but she hasnt given up all hope, and despite what she says she believes in good people. she represents what he could be, and what he strives to become (he protestes the entire way, but he still wants to achieve it. he’d rather not try at all than fail he thinks most days. its easier on his tired heart)

            i think dolls would help their relationship. hes a very steady person, and i think he would act as a sort of grounding to their passion and an anchor that they can come back to when they run. he is not someone who runs, and i think they both need that. so while doc and wynonna can connect as raw nerves, he can serve as a centerpoint for them. in this relationship i think he serves as a sort of a “calm in the storm” kind of man. and he’d be able to sit and listen and be able to think things through when doc and wynonna get carried away. plus he’d be able to mediate their arguments. he may be steady and calm, but that comes with a heavy amount of stubbornness and an unwillingness to back down.

wynonna and dolls - i think these two compliment each other. wynonna, as mentioned earlier, is like a raw nerve or an exposed wire, and dolls is very self-contained. the man is practically made of willpower from what ive seen. when wynonna feels something its all over her face and her actions. she feels everything deeply. i think dolls feels things jsut as deeply, but he keeps it all bottled up. they are both just as stubborn, and i think they provide a challenge for each other. wynonna would help dolls express himself, and dolls would help wynonna learn when to stop and take a breath before things run away on her. on the other hand, would wynonna get the kind of emotional comfort she clearly craves from dolls, who is not expressive by nature? would dolls be able to keep up emotionally with someone who is so /on/ all the time, who needs so much and asks so much? they also carry the same kinds of guilt, i think. they both have things they feel guilty about, things that have changed the course of their life and in both cases (in my uneducated opinion) i think these things that cause guilt are in some way a part of who they are. they have to look in the mirror and face themselves when they believe that their very nature and legacy is tied to this terrible guilt. and the entire reason people need them and that they can now do /good/ is because of this guilty thing. i think they both need someone who can relate to that feeling. but at the same time, maybe they need someone who can approach it without those kinds of conflicting feelings. i also think that wynonna is (once again) more hopeful and optimistic than dolls. she sees in him someone better than he thinks he is, and he sees the same in her. she gives him a reason to maybe hope that he can be better, and that they can make the world better. he gives her a way to make the world what she’s always known was in it. he gives her a chance to prove to herself that she is good and she is worth it and he believes in her every step of the way.

              doc adds something to this dynamic as well. he provides the midpoint between dolls and wynonna. in some of the ways that they are opposites he can provide a middle ground between the pair. he can do quiet and controlled (sorta) and he can do wildly emotional. hes always been adaptable. while he is naturally an emotional person, he has far longer been a person who is good with people and that requires give and take. hes a con man. he can play the waiting game. and he may not like it much, but he can wait with the best of them. and when wynonna needs emotions freely given (not dragged out like pulling teeth) he can do that as well. and when dolls needs /time/ and a moment to pull himself together and a break, doc knows when to back off and let things sit for a bit (wynonna’s not so good at that, so sometimes he disappears and takes wynonna with him and dolls is so grateful, but he’ll never say)

doc and dolls. these two have less time together in canon where they arent fighting so its a bit harder to predict their relationship, but i think they fit. they would be the kind of couple that constantly fights and bickers, but theyre there for each other in quiet ways. theyre not as vocal about their feelings as wynonna is, they show their feelings in actions instead of words (wynonna just needs to be /heard/ and acknowledged and listened to. she spent so many years of not that, she cant go back). they can bond over sometimes just needing to make a fuss, over both of them being the type to get things done, over “the ends justify the means” (wynonna is a survivor, but her continual hope and belief in /goodness/ means that sometimes she will sacrifice the most practical option for the right option). they also get along in some of the ways that dolls and wynonna get along. dolls is still a steady presence for doc and doc is still a motivator for dolls to share. they both have high respect for each other and they both are unstoppable when they get a goal in mind

                where wynonna comes in here is more integral than the other dynamics. for all that doc and dolls are in many ways good for each other, they are not the kind of people that each one would normally go for. shes really what brought them into each other’s orbit. and with her they are able to avoid the kind of pessimism and bitterness that they may otherwise fall into. wynonna may not know it, but she has the kind of personality that can inspire people. in another life she is a natural leader. people follow her without questioning, she’s charismatic and she’s the head of some sort of movement. in this life, she draws people in and keeps a few very close and very loyal.  doc and dolls have such opposing ideologies that their similarities and differences that make them good for each other may not have even gotten the chance. but with wynonna’s tendency to draw people in and keep them close, and her ability to love so fiercely, and her unique combination of experience and beliefs that put her in line with both ideologies bring them together and allow them to grow together.

so as a group i just like the idea that these three have a constant push and pull between them, where they can see each other in ways that not everyone can, and they have such unique experiences that only they can relate to. they all believe in the best of each other even when they dont see it in themselves, and through this they all help each other to be better and inspire themselves to try to be their best. besically these three beautiful, badass, stubborn assholes have my heart and i think they all shoul dhave each other’s.
