Taking Chances Chapter Eight:Â Family Dinner (Pranks/Dad Jokes)
Prev
AO3
Bruce Wayne was not an emotional man. In fact, his emotional capability had once been compared to that of a teaspoon. He had emotions, obviously, but he didnât express them. Or rather, he wasnât sure how to express them. But staring down at the photo album in front of him, it was almost painful having no way to express his emotions. It was the most thoughtful gift he had ever received, and it was one that he would treasure forever. He didnât have baby pictures of his other children. Dickâs were lost at some point while he was still with Haleyâs Circus. Jasonâs were lost when he had to live on the street. Tim...well, there were a few pictures of Tim. But they were all highly staged school pictures. And those didnât start until kindergarten. And DamianâŠ.Talia wasnât ever the type to be sentimental. Which meant there were no baby pictures of him either. But Marinette...her entire life had been catalogued. From sonograms, to her first Christmas and the first competition she won. Everything was laid out in order. Bruce turns back to the start of the book, prepared to close it, when an envelope catches his eye. He wasnât focused on it when he first opened the book. He glances at Marinette and quirks an eyebrow. She frowns.
âOh, that. Um, itâs the letter that Bridgette wrote to you. I havenât actually read it, Maman said she hasnât either. Your name was on the front and apparently she felt awkward opening a letter not addressed to her even with the situation and-â She stops talking, taking a deep breath before smiling. âSorry. But, you can read it, if you want. I thought you might want to have it.â
âThank you, Marinette.â He says, smiling slightly. He tries not to laugh when her face lights up seeing him smile. Note, try and show emotions more around Marinette, he thinks. Sitting back on his chair, he opens the envelope and stares down at the letter he shouldâve received fourteen years ago.
Dear BruceâŠ
---
Marinette lets out a sigh of relief as Mr. Wayne sits to read the letter. Tugging Adrien over to her brothers and plopping down on the loveseat, she smiles.
âSo Marinette, I noticed the last time you were here you had a sketchbook. Do you draw a lot?â Dick asks, eyeing the lack of space between her and Adrien. Marinette resists the urge to glare at her brother. Was he seriously plotting some way to get her and Adrien away from each other right now? After Mr. Wayne had invited him? Seriously?
âWell, kinda.â She answers, pulling out her mini sketchbook from her purse. âI actually design clothes. So I draw, but itâs mostly clothes. Sometimes Iâll sketch architecture or flowers or something for inspiration but..â She trails off, tentatively passing her sketchbook to Dick. She watches, bouncing her leg as the awkward silence stretches on while Dick looks at the sketchbook with Tim and Jason glancing over his shoulders. And Cass standing behind the couch was also looking at the sketches. Trying not to feel awkward the longer the silence stretches, Marinette jumps as Tim starts choking on his coffee. He jumps towards her and she yelps, leaping off the loveseat and to the side in order to avoid him.
âWhat the hell Replacement?â Jason huffs. Tim ignores him, staring at her with wide eyes.
âHoly shit, itâs you.â He says.
âLanguage, Master Tim. Dinner is ready.â Alfred says, popping out of nowhere.
âWhat do you mean itâs me?â Marinette asks, taking her sketchbook back and stuffing it back into her purse.
âYouâre MDC!â Tim practically yells, waving his (not empty) coffee cup around, barely missing dumping it on her head.
âUm, yes?â She says, confused at his level of excitement.
âHow are you not freaking out about this?â Tim asks, turning to Dick and Jason who were trying to get him to follow them to the dining room. Key word being trying.
âAm I supposed to?â Dick asks, eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
âRichard Grayson! As a fellow Jagged Stone fan you cannot tell me that you donât recognize the name of his personal designer!â Tim yells. Dickâs eyes widen in realization, turning to Marinette with a shocked smile.
âWait, thatâs you? Marinette, thatâs amazing! I knew your sketches were good, but wow. Thatâs just- wow!â Dick says, his entire face filled with pride. Marinette laughs awkwardly, her face heating up with all the attention. It wasâŠ.a lot. But also nice.
âYeah. I mean, I havenât done an entire tour wardrobe yet, but Iâm proud of the pieces that I have done.â She says.
âTerribly sorry, but it might be nice if we moved our conversations to the dining room.â Alfred says, a twinge of amusement clear on his face. Marinette glances over at Mr. Wayne who was still frozen, clutching the letter from her birth mother. She looks at Alfred and raises an eyebrow. He simply shakes his head and motions for her to go on. Sighing, she nods and follows her brothers (and Adrien, who was suddenly in an intense conversation with Tim about Jagged Stone) to the dining room. As they walk into the dining room, Marinette darts around Dick to snag the seat on the other side of Adrien. Tim sitting on one side of Adrien was fine. Adrien stuck between Tim and Dick? Not fine. She gives Dick a look, and he just smiles innocently before walking around and taking the seat across from Adrien. Shouldâve seen that one coming. Once everyone is seated (besides Mr. Wayne, who had sent Alfred back in and instructed everyone to start without him) the conversations taper off, leaving the dining room in an awkward silence.
âMarinette, I have a very serious question for you.â Dick says, his smile telling her that the chances of it actually being a âvery seriousâ question are slim to none.
âOkay, sure.â
âWhere do fruits go on vacation?â He asks, a wide grin stretching across his face. âPear-is!â Marinette just blinks at him. That was almost as bad as-
âOh my god! That was amazing!â Adrien cheers, laughing so hard he has to set his fork down. Oh god. Thereâs two of them.
âReally?â Dick asks, his face bright. Oh dear god please no.
âOh yeah. That joke was pun-derful.â Adrien replies with a snort. Please god. Make it stop.
âIâm glad you think so. Everyone else seems a bit pun-sive.â Dick replies. Thatâs it. Sheâd willingly give Hawkmoth her Miraculous if it meant she could leave this dinner and the awful jokes happening. Sheâd even listen to her Papaâs jokes for an entire hour. As long as she could leave this cursed dinner. The sudden blaring from both her phone and Adrienâs makes her jump, and her eyes widen. Okay, no. She didnât say the thing about the Miraculous out loud, so she doesnât actually have to give it up, right? No, itâs fine. Taking it back wonât lead to anything crazy, right?
âUh, Iâm gonna run to the bathroom.â Marinette says, jumping up, frowning at Adrien as he jumps up with her.
âMe too!â He says. Marinette frowns. Way to make it obvious, Kitty.
âIâm fine, I can go to the bathroom by myself.â She insists, rushing off to the bathroom before Adrien can argue. Sheâd figure something out.
---
Dick raises an eyebrow at Adrienâs shocked face.
âDid you need to go to the bathroom? We have more than one bathroom.â He says, worried that maybe the kidâs shocked face wasnât because of Marinetteâs hasty departure and instead because he really needed the bathroom.
âOh. Um. No, Iâm fine. Apparently.â He mutters the last word, dropping down into his seat and staring at his plate. Dick could see the boyâs hands twitching towards his phone like he wanted to check it, but was afraid of being rude. He was about to tell him that it was okay to check his phone when a blue circle of light appeared over the table. An arm covered in red spandex with black spots sticks out of the light (portal) and grabs Adrien by the front of his shirt. Before anyone can stop the arm, Adrien is through the portal. Gone. Well shit.
âWhere are Adrien and Marinette?â Bruce asks, walking into the room and frowning at the empty chairs. Well shit!

Enemies to Lovers
For Maribat March day 23 theme enemies to lovers
Master List
âKentâs coming over.â Damian stated at breakfast, none of the other Wayneâs seemed phased by this, none but one.Â
âAgain?â At Damianâs nod she continued, âIâll be in my room or the Batcave so donât bring him there.âÂ
"He will also be bringing a friend over from that exchange program his school did with the one in London." Damian added, Marinette tensed a little bit but didnât say anything else.
"Is Jon bringing a stranger over a good idea?" Tim asked.
"Tt, Kent said that he would make sure the boy wouldn't wander." Damian answered, after 9 years in the manor he still hadn't gotten rid of his tt habit.Â
"I'll be in my room then, I don't want Jon or his friend bothering me." Marinette announced to no one's surprise.
âMarinette,â She turned to look at Dick, âWhy donât you like Jon? This has been going on for almost a year now. Surely you could give him another chance. Or at the very least his friend?âÂ
âNot interested.â And with that she finished her breakfast and went to go help Alfred with cleaning the dishes, like she did every morning.Â
Damian watched his younger half blood sister go, frown evident on his face. Marinette Wayne had been living with them for over a year now. While she was now 16, her opinion of one Jonathan Kent still had not changed.Â
After Bruce had a one night stand with her mother she had been born 9 months later, Sabine having no intention of telling Bruce. What she did not expect was that 15 years later she and her husband would be guilty of negligence and emotional abuse of Marinette and custody would be handed to her bio father. Aka Bruce Wayne.Â
Marinette changed her last name to Wayne and left her life in Paris behind. There was not much left for her there anyways. But she had never told her new family why she was so insistent on leaving Paris behind. More specifically who she was leaving behind.
The Waynes had gotten used to her bubbly personality in the manor, so they were shocked that when they sent her off to Gotham Academy she was dubbed the âIce Princessâ the next morning.
Turns out after what happened in Paris, she refused to open up to anyone. Most days she was found sketching in her sketchbook, always alone. She still got straight Aâs and even participated in a few clubs but never made one friend. It was concerning, how much she resembled Damian in that sense.
One day after patrol, after Marinette headed off to bed they started discussing Marinette's social life. Tim had joked that since she's such a ray of sunshine around them that she should meet Jon.Â
This idea was met with positive reactions, all of them agreeing that Jon would be a good influence for her. He was also her age so that was a plus. And he was Damian's first friend, perhaps he could be Marinette's.
That weekend they were proven wrong. Very wrong. Marinette refused to be in the same room as Jon, and when trying to gently push the boundaries she had set, she grew hostile. Something they had never seen from her for as long as they had known her.Â
One of their first thoughts was that she was scared of Jon, since he was half Kryptontian. But that idea was quickly shut down after Jason brought up the time she roasted Superman to his face. And had no regrets.Â
Then they figured it was because he was still a stranger to her. So they had him over more often. But after 2 months they realized that wasnât the case either. Yet, none of them had the slightest clue why she was so against Jonathon Kent.Â
Not even Jon knew. All Jon knew was that whenever he walked into the same room as Marinette she grew annoyed. He knew she disliked him but that wasnât what he was confused about. What made him confused was that he could sense her fear. She was scared of him, and he had no idea why.Â
He thought about telling the Batfamily, thought about telling Damian, but how would it go over that the latest addition to the Batclan was scared of him. Especially knowing how paranoid and protective they could be. So he just stuck to avoiding her at all costs, it wasnât that big of a deal anyways.Â
Marinette didnât see Jon as an enemy per se she saw him as an enemy, but he was just someone she strongly disliked, she had her reasons. And while Jon definitely didnât see Marinette as an enemy, the more she ignored him, and he would need to ignore her, started to grate on his nerves. If she was in a room that he was going to enter he would have to wait for her to leave and vice versa. It was getting tiring and he was starting to dislike her more and more to the point she almost became his enemy.Â
Today would be no different except for one detail. That detail being a blonde haired, green eyed, sunshine child that reminded Jon of himself. While Adrien was a little too naive for his taste, they had gotten along great and he wanted to introduce him to Damian.Â
Adrien had seemed intrigued by the idea of meeting a Wayne. Apparently his father used to be a businessman and despite the fact he was from France and only moved to London a year ago, he knew of how famous the Waynes are.Â
Now here they were, in his dadâs car going to Wayne manor.Â
âOkay, you remember what I told you right?â Jon questioned Adrien, he was making sure the boy was prepared and didnât accidentally stumble upon the Batcave or anything relating the Waynes to the Bats.
âYes I know, no wandering around the manor, itâs too big and Iâll get lost. No staring in awe at the Waynes, theyâre not the celebrities the press makes them out to be. And if I see a girl with dark hair, blue eyes, and looks to be a head shorter than me, I am to walk away immediately in the other direction and pretend I didnât see her.â Adrien listed off.Â
âPerfect!â Jon, exclaimed he was going to add more but his dad interrupted him.Â
âOkay boys weâre here, I hope you have a good time Adrien.âÂ
âThanks Mr. Kent, I will!â Adrien cheerfully replied as he followed Jon out of the car. Sometimes this boy reminded Jon too much of himself.Â
âMaster Jon, lovely to see you again. Is this your friend?â Alfred greeted them at the door.
âYep! This is Adrien Graham de Vanily, Adrien this is Alfred, the Waynes butler but is more like a surrogate grandfather if anything.â Jon introduced.Â
âNice to meet you Mr. Alfred.â Adrien stuck out his hand to shake.Â
âIt is nice to meet you too Master Graham de Vanily, please just call me Alfred.â
âThen you can just call me Adrien, Alfred, my last name is such a mouthful.âÂ
âOf course Master Adrien, now will you two be staying for dinner?âÂ
âI donât know, is it okay if we do?â Jon answered, secretly asking if she would be okay with it.
âItâll be okay Master Jon. I will inform the others we will be having two guests stay with us for dinner.â Alfred led them inside, âMaster Damian should be in the gaming room.â And with that he left.Â
âCome on, Damian is probably setting up some games for us to play.â Jon grabbed Adrienâs hand and started dragging him down a hallway.Â
Marinette could hear when Alfred had opened the door for Jon and his friend, she didnât have super hearing but she had trained her ears for listening for certain things. Like the front door opening.Â
After a few minutes Alfred had come to tell her the two would be staying for dinner. It wasnât ideal but she could live with it, all she had to do was give Jon and his friend the cold shoulder for at most an hour. Nothing new to her.
Now a whole hour had passed and she was getting hungry. She still had another hour till dinner so a small snack would be fine. But leaving her room posed the risk of running into Jon or his friend, and she didnât want to risk an interaction with either of them.
Both of them are with Damian right now. There are no bathrooms near her room or the kitchen. If she hurries it will only take her 10 minutes to get to the kitchen, grab the cookies she made earlier, and come back to her room. And since Damian was banned from the kitchen this week, and both of his new friends are stuck with him, they shouldnât be anywhere near the kitchen.Â
Of course when was the universe ever on her side. She was about to open the kitchen door when someone she thought she would never have to see again uttered her name, âMarinette?âÂ
She knew the voice. It was the same voice that told her to stay quiet all those years ago when a vicious liar ran her mouth. The same one that said he was on her side then abandoned her the second things got too tough for him. The same one that didnât speak up whenever she tried to defend herself, instead saying not to rock the boat. And now the owner of that voice was in her home.Â
She steeled her face into something cold and emotionless, despite the fear she felt in her stomach and turned to face him, âAgreste.â
âItâs Graham de Vanily now.â He corrected, both forgetting/not noticing the two other people there.Â
âPretty sure itâs Agreste, you know, just like your father.â She bit back, venom laced into every word.Â
âHeâs not my father, not anymore.â He replied, fists clenched at his sides, staring her straight in the eyes, confusing the other two boys.
âYou sure, because youâre exactly like him, you know.â She raised an eyebrow and matched his gaze.Â
âI am nothing like him.â Adrien took a threatening step forward and thatâs when Damian immediately stepped in front of Marinette, wanting to protect his little sister from this person who just threatened her. Damian was about to ask something but was cut off when Marinette moved around him to face Adrien.Â
âReally? Both of you put your own wants and desires above the well being of other people. Your father the people of Paris, and for you it was me.â Jon saw she was visibly shaking, from fear or anger he wasnât sure. Both emotions were pretty strong for her, and when he focused on Adrien all the boy felt was guilt.Â
âLook Mari Iâm-â He was cut off by Marinetteâs angry shout.Â
âYou would think that after all you put me through you would at least have the dignity to not call me by a nickname that friends are only allowed to call me. You know, people who actually care about me!âÂ
âMarinette, Iâm sorry okay, that was really dumb of me!â Adrien shouted back.Â
âSave it! You can pretend to regret your actions all you want, but people like you donât change! Thatâs something you taught me!â Snack forgotten, Marinette ran back to her room and slammed the door. Locking it, she slid down the back of it and just cried.Â
âYouâve got a lot of explaining to do Graham de Vanily. How do you know my little sister? Why did she react to you like that? What did she mean by âall you put her though?â...â As Damian kept spitting out question after question Jon followed Marinette. Her cries were the only thing he could hear right then and there.Â
As he made his way closer to her, the cries stopped, only tiny sniffles coming out. âWhat do you want Kent?â He could hear the shaking in her voice no matter how much she tried to cover it up.Â
He sat down, his back resting on the closed door thinking about what he should say. âI wanted to see if you were okay.âÂ
âI find that hard to believe. You wanted answers didnât you?â She hiccuped in between words.
âA little bit.âÂ
âWell once upon a time there was a teenage girl who wore rose colored glasses all the time. She saw the world in rainbows and sunshine, never knowing of the darkness. Then one day a lying fox came into her life, spreading her tall tales. The girl tried to warn her friends and family but they didnât listen. The fox ripped off the girlâs glasses and forced her to see the world for what it really was. The girlâs love at the time came to her and told her to keep silent, after all the foxâs lies werenât hurting anyone. It was then she noticed that the boy wore the same glasses she did, only his were much stronger than hers had ever been. But she loved him, so she believed him, that everything would turn out okay, that if it didnât he would be by her side.Â
Slowly those around the girl turned on her, despite her doing nothing wrong. The boy who she once loved left her the second things got tough, never letting her stand up for herself. Soon the lying fox had gotten to her parents, things escalated from there. Now the girl moved to live with her bio family and everything was fine for a time. But then a boy who saw the world in sunshine and rainbows came around, and she was reminded of her past all over again.â Marinette finished her tale, her hiccups had faded away.Â
âYou donât like me because I remind you of Adrien?â He hesitantly asked.Â
âYou donât just remind me of him. Every time I see you I see him. But youâre also different from him. I donât know. When youâre all happy and optimistic you're like him, but you also know how to be serious, which is something he could never do. I donât know how to explain it but I thought if I kept you away from it would be alright. I really messed up didnât I?â Marinette tried to keep the tears in her eyes from falling.Â
âKind of. But if you want we can start over.â Jon suggested, he wouldnât mind getting to know the Marinette Damian talked so fondly about, not that Damian would ever admit it.Â
He heard the lock unlock and he stood up as the door opened. He turned around and there was Marinette, her eyes were a little red and she had tears stains on her cheeks but she looked much better than before.Â
She stuck her hand out, âHi, nice to meet you, Iâm Marinette Wayne.â She looked up to look in his eyes and wondered if they were always so blue. And oh god please say she didnât start blushing!
âNice to meet you Marinette. Iâm Jonathan Kent, but you can call me Jon.â Jon took her hand and shook it, his eyes looked into hers and he couldnât help but think they looked so beautiful when they werenât glaring at him. Unfortunately, Damianâs scream broke them out of their daze.
âANSWER ME!!!âÂ
âWe better go help him.â Marinette pulled her hand back.Â
âYeah we probably should.â Jon replied but Marinette was already racing to where they left the boys. Jon ran to catch up with her, mentally berating himself for thinking his friendâs sister was cute.Â
Marinette on the other hand was mentally berating herself for thinking that someone she used to dislike so much was now cute. Not to mention heâs her brotherâs best friend. Well, Damian doesnât have to know she thinks that.

Iâm back from the dead! As I said before in What If... (which you can find on my master list day 22) school sucks and has been burying my grave so I had to focus on that for a while. In a world where Bruce Wayne raised Damian since birth - Ficlets part 2/3
And here we are. So. Yeah. I got extremely carried away again so I guess Iâm cutting this âlast partâ in two ^^'. The last part (so the third one) is therefor already written and will be posted soon after a few other stories I got to update ! Thanks for reading, hope youâll like this and boom :Â
PART 1
My masterlist : @ella-ravenwood-archivesâ
TW : mentions of blood in the âThe day he learned what death meantâ part ! Also, loss of a close family member... + drowning in âThe Pond incidentâ.

"No more Robins.â
Bruce couldnât bring himself to explain to Damian what happened to Jason.
Of course, he knew that one day, he would have to. And that the sooner the better. Especially since the boy was asking more and more when his brother would come back.
Bruce was pretty sure his boy thought that Jason went to form his own âTeen Titansâ, like Dick did years ago.Â
Damian kept asking to video conference Jason, when heâd call, why didn't he kiss him goodbye, or when heâd come  back to have dinner with themâŠYes. Yes the boy most likely thought his older brother did what his oldest brother did.Â
Went away for a little while, definitely not forever.
Bruce wondered how long he would be able to wisthand his sonâs questions.Â
Every time the little one would ask « When is Zayson calling/coming back ? », Bruce felt his heart shrivel more and more, and flashes of Jasonâs body in his arms kept coming back and-
He couldnât. Bruce couldnât. How the hell could he say anything ?Â
How could he explain to his baby son that his beloved brother would never come home again ? Would never call ?And that everything was his own fatherâs faultâŠHe couldnât break his sonâs heart like that. He couldnât bear to..
But he would have to. One day or another.Â
âThe sooner the betterâ, Dick said. And Bruce knew he was right. But it was too hard.Â
And then suddenly, as if summoned by his thought, there he was.Â
Little Damian.
Except this was clearly not the right time to tell him what truly happened to Jason, as the boy seemed mildly annoyed and wasâŠWearing his coat and shoes ? Where was he going ? And who was that other kid with him ?
The newcomer seemed to be around twelve, and was smiling widely, clearly excited to be here. Before he could speak though :
âDaddy, he knows youâre Batman.â
Damian said, very matter of factly, as if it wasnât really a surprise. And maybe to a six years old growing up knowing his dad was Batman, it wasnât ?Â
Although in this case, it was more the fact that Damianâs mind was monopolized by where Jason went, than him not being surprised someone guessed who Batman was. In other circumstances, and if he was older than barely six, maybe he wouldâve been very impressed...Later on in his life, Tim would genuinely impress him many times with his intellect.Â
Damian never told anyone, because since he was very young, Bruce, Alfred, Dick and Jason told him not to. Because it was a secret. And it became natural for him, to not talk about this to anyone. He was basically conditioned to never even mention the Dark Knight.Â
âBatmanâ was part of the boyâs life since birth, to him, he was nothing special except for the fact it was his beloved dad. He was always more of a âRobinâ fan anyway, as he regarded both his brothers in awe...
Which made him think, where was Jason ?!Â
The thought of him brought Damian back to his initial idea, which was to go to Jasonâs school (wherever that was) and look for him. As he thought about it, he realized there was a big flaw in his plan for sure. Where was his brotherâs school ? And also, it was Winterâs vacation ? Why would he be there ?Â
Then...Where was he ?Â
Now, Damian was even more annoyed at this dude who knocked on their door. Not only did he wrecked his plans to go to Jasonâs school (before he could truly think about it), but now he was monopolizing his dadâs attention so Damian, who was taught basic politeness by Alfred, couldnât even cut him off to ask where Jason was !Â
This had slowly become Damianâs obsession, to know where his brother was. Heâs never been so focus on only one thing in his entire short life.Â
â...and thatâs how I found out you were most definitely him, The Batman !â
Damian didnât really listen to what âTimâ said. He didnât care that much how he found out that his dad was Batman, all he wanted was...Oh, but wait a minute.Â
Tim discovered who Batman really was.Â
All on his own. While everyone in Gotham seemed oblivious to that fact. This must mean...
âHey ! You must know where Jason went ?âÂ
Damian was maybe young, but he was smarter than a lot of adults would give children credits for. He often easily put two and two together anyway (thanks to the many puzzles his father turned into games and made him solve, along with his brothers), and if that Tim could find out who Batman really was when everyone else was in the dark (even Superman, and he met both Batman AND Bruce Wayne rather often), he could probably find Jace !Â
Tim turned to Damian, and looked at him with a sorry look in his eyes and...Why ? But the boy never had time to ask that question as his father said :Â
âDamian, go to your room please. Timothy and I have to talk.â
âBut I want to-â
âNo buts. Iâll come by your room when Iâm done. Please, do as I say, Damian.âÂ
There was something in his fatherâs tone, that made Damian sort-of forget about asking where Jason was. Something grave, as if the man he admired the most on this Earth would suddenly shatter.Â
There was something in his fatherâs tone that made him not want to argue, and to just listen. Something that just sounded quiet and heavy. And so without trying to argue further, Damian went to his room, and waited.Â
Waited for what seemed hours, for his father to come tell him whatever he wanted to tell him.Â
But Bruce never came to explain anything. Or to tell what happened between him and Tim. He couldnât. He just didnât have the strength yet. Especially not after he told Tim off, and told him to forget about Batman and go on on his own ways.Â
Not after he told Tim that there was :Â âno more Robinsâ.Â
************
The Pond Incident.
It didnât seem his dad wanted to explain to him much about what happened with Tim, or talk about Jason at all.Â
In fact, since yesterday and Timâs impromptu arrival, Damian hadnât seen his father at all. Nor did he see Dick (later, heâd learn than both men were together, working a case and trying to focus on it to take their pain away...Later, the boy would learn his father just couldnât face him just yet).Â
When Damian asked âFafredâ (Alfred), the butler told him they were both busy. The boy didnât even bother, this time, to ask where Jason was. He knew heâd get no satisfying answers. So he decided, just like the day before before he got interrupted by Tim and then spend the entire day waiting for his dad in his room, well he decided to take things in his own hands.Â
Now, there was only one solution to this âWhere is Jason ?â problem.Â
Well, this was the last solution.Â
The most logical and obvious one, to Damianâs little six years old eyes.Â
Nobody seemed to want to tell him where Jason went, even after two full weeks now ! And Damian looked EVERYWHERE for his brother.Â
Now, Jason has always been the best at âhide and seekâ.Â
It was easy to find Dick, he always used his acrobat background to find the least likely places to hid in...Which made it the most obvious of places to look in, all you had to do, is look in places normal people couldnât access, and youâd find Dick ! But Jason...Jason was a true master of the art. He always managed to find the best hidden places !Â
But he never stayed hidden for that long ! The most he went on was about two hours, and then he got tired of waiting and went to eat some cookies in the kitchen, which is where Damian finally found him !Â
So if Jason wasnât in school, if he didnât have his own Titans, if he wasnât playing hide and seek...Then there was only one place left where he could be !Â
The infamous and scary âPondâ.Â
Both Jason and Dick warned Damian multiple time to not go near it, telling him a monster lived in it so he would keep away.Â
Of course, the monster story was a lie. A white one. So theyâd keep their baby brother safe. Because that pond was rather treacherous. Even if you were a good swimmer, falling in it, with all the water weed at the bottom, could become fatal rather quickly.Â
And so the âPond Monsterâ was born. Damian was truly terrified of it, which sometimes made his brothers feel guilty that they invented such a terrifying cryptid. But at the same time, anything to keep him out of danger.Â
But today, as the boy thought this was the last place his brother could be, and that maybe the Pond Monster had him, Damian didnât feel fear.Â
On the contrary, he felt rather resolved. And here he was, six years old Damian, slipping away discreetly in the garden, as everyone in the house was too busy and weighted down by their pain to notice...
He approached the water slowly, carefully. He wasnât about to get snatch easily like that by the monster. Picking a stick from the floor, Damian walked to the pond with wary steps, ready to fight.Â
Only the thought that maybe Jason was there kept him going.Â
Hey, maybe thatâs why nobody was really telling him where Jason was ? Because the Pond Monster was holding him prisoner and they were all afraid itâd take Damian too ?Â
âMânot âfraid !âÂ
Damian yelled at the pond, letting the monster know he was, indeed, not afraid. Or maybe, trying to convince himself.Â
And here he was, near the murky water. He looked at it, and waited for a few minutes. Waited for the monster. But it never came, so he said :Â
âIf you have my brother, you have to let him go now.â
Silence.Â
âPlease ?â
Silence. Damian hits the water with his stick.Â
âWe can trade, you take me and you let Zayson go ?â
Damian knew that Jason would never let the monster take him, and intended to trick it so he would let Jason free enough so they could both escape !Â
But the pond desperately stayed silent. And the boy now found himself wishing that monster was real. He approached the water even more, and bend above it.
He couldnât see anything, and so he walked closer still, and then...
There was a reason, both Dick and Jason made sure that their little brother would never come near that pond. In fact, Bruce planned to take it out years ago but never quite got to it...
The sides were directly quite deep, for a pond. Deep enough for a small six years old boy to...
âWoaaaah !â
Damian slipped, and fell right in the water.Â
First, before he could even struggle to stay above the water, he felt the cold of it. New Jersey, that time of the year, was cold and unforgiving...
And as Damianâs adrenaline kicked in, making him unaware of the cold, he started to struggle. But the long grass filling the pond were already tangling around him, dragging him down and down, as if they had a mind of their own.Â
Damian knew how to swim, he learned fast, as his father was truly terrified anything would happen to his kids...But the panic made the boy get tangled even more in those thick grass, and his little six years old body couldnât win.Â
He couldnât win.Â
His head was beneath the water now, and everything was dark and cold. He cold feel the bottom of the pond, and he could see he wasnât that much shorter than the depth of it...But the thick water grass wouldnât let go of him, and he couldnât reach the surface that was oh so close. It felt that the more he struggled, the more he got tangled.Â
And it was cold. So cold.Â
âDamian...âÂ
Jason ? Was that Jason ? Damian could recognize his brotherâs voice anywhere.Â
âDamian what are you doing here ?âÂ
It was cold, and he couldnât breathe anymore.Â
âDamian, youâre not supposed to be here. You have to go Damian, you have to go, you hear me ?âÂ
The boy wasnât quite sure anymore, but he thought he saw the silhouette of a man next to him, helping him out of the water and...Jason ! This was really Jasonâs voice ! Jason was saving him !Â
Probably because of the water, Damian felt like there were two people with him. One that was trying to lift him up above water, and a sort of brighter one, who was slowly fading now...Doesnât matter.Â
Jason was saving him.Â
He knew it, Damian knew Jason would never leave him alone.Â
Everything was cold and dark, but he felt warm arms get a hold of him, drag him out of the water.Â
âGood. Good. Go Damian, go. And I donât want to see you up until youâre very, very, very old...âÂ
The boy did not understand those last few words. Wasnât even sure he heard them. All of a sudden, he was out of the water, coughing and trembling. And someone was wrapping a warm hoodie around him, trying to get him warm.Â
âYou have to be careful buddy, you have to be careful !âÂ
This wasnât Jasonâs voice.
The water slowly clearing out of his vision, Damian looked at whoever saved him and...
It was the one from yesterday.Â
Tim.Â
He was wearing a t-shirt, and was soaked, his hair sticking on his forehead. And he was desperately trying to keep the little boy warm, enveloping him carefully in his own hoodie and coat, that he mustâve taken off before jumping in the pond to rescue Damian. Timâs own lips were blue, but he didnât seem to care.Â
âAre you ok ? Are you ok ? We have to get back you back to the manor, to where itâs warm ok ? Iâm going to carry you ok ? Donât be afraid, Iâm not going to hurt you I just want to-âÂ
âWhat happened here ?!â
Damian was still not really sure what was happening, still a bit numbed from the cold water and the fear and...Was it really Jason he heard ?
His little six years old mind couldnât understand everything, right now. Except that the one who asked what was happening was his dad.Â
And indeed, as Damian turned to the voice...
âOh my God what happened ?!âÂ
âIâm sorry sir, I know you told me you didnât want any help or another Robin or anything but I was um...In your forrest by accident- yes thatâs it, by accident-, when I saw your son going straight to that pond and then he fell and-â
A large hand on his shoulder is what stopped Timâs anxious rant. And Bruceâs kind and understanding eyes what made him feel safe.Â
âItâs alright boy, come on in tell me all about it around a cup of hot cocoa.âÂ
It didnât take a genius to gather that Tim had just saved Damian. Taking his own coat off, Bruce put it around Timâs shoulders, and picked up his youngest son his arms.Â
âYouâre okay to walk ?âÂ
âYes sir, yes I am.â
âTough little one.â
Bruce smiled at Tim, trying to reassure him. It was clear the boy had adrenaline rushing through his veins and his heart was still beating fast, unable to quite catch whatever happened there...
Bruce knew. Bruce knew what happened. And it chilled him to the bones.Â
He couldnât send Tim away again, not after what the boy just did.
************
Some fresh warm clothes and a cup of hot cocoa later...
What Damian said that day, and what Tim told Bruce, froze the Batmanâs blood in his veins.Â
What if Tim hadnât been so stubborn, not wanting to give up helping Batman, and Damian wouldâve...he wouldâve...
It was time now.Â
Not knowing where his brother went almost cost him his life, thatâs how the little one desperately wanted to find Jason back.Â
It was time now.Â
Bruce had to tell him. He had to...
The day he understood what âDeathâ meant.
"Damian, buddy, I have to...I have to show you something.âÂ
Comfortably wrapped in a blanket, little Burrito Damian turned to his father and...was shocked by how serious, tired, sad and old he looked.Â
Sure, his dad havenât been the same much lately. Since Jason left. But he also was a little quieter when he let Dick go join the Titans, so Damian didnât worry too much !Â
Except right now, itâs as if he truly didnât recognized his dad. Like it was another man in front of him, who was broken.Â
When Bruce would look at Damian, at any of his children really, there was always a spark in his eyes. A spark, that was nowhere to be seen right now.Â
Which worried the little boy.Â
Bruce turned to Tim, and said :Â
âChum, would you mind waiting for us here ? I have to...To...â
âItâs ok Mr. Wayne, I know. I will go home and-â
âPlease no. Wait here, there is...There is probably some old clothes that belonged to Dick or...Or Jason, somewhere in the house. Dry clothes. Alfred will take care of things. Finish your cocoa, I will be back and we can...We can talk about Robin. If youâd like.âÂ
Timâs eyes brightened and opened wide, he excitedly shook his head and said :Â
âIâd love that sir !âÂ
The pure joy radiating from the boy made Bruceâs heart feel a little warmer, and gave him the last push of bravery he needed to take his youngest son...There.Â
To take Damian to Jasonâs grave.
After asking Alfred to take care of Tim, Bruce took Damian outside again, in the back garden. So deep in the estate, Damian actually realized he never went there.Â
Holding his fatherâs hand, the boy stayed silent as he walked along side his dad, walked...Somewhere.Â
Damian had a bad feeling about this, he didnât like how wet his fatherâs eyes were, and how serious he looked. He asked :Â
âWhere are we going daddy ?âÂ
âI have things to explain to you.â
âWhat things ?â
âWhere...Where Jason went.âÂ
âItâs ok, itâs ok, we can wait tomorrow ?âÂ
All of a sudden, Damian didnât want to know where Jason was. A scary and uneasy feeling he couldnât quite pinpoint as he never felt it before was creeping his way in his heart, and he was suddenly taken over by a fear of what was waiting for them beyond the woods at the back of Wayneâs garden.Â
Damian didnât even know their backyard was so big. He always assumed the forrest was the end of it, but no. No. The forrest was part of it. And beyond the woods laid...
Two weirdly carved stones ?Â
Damian didnât like this place. He didnât like it at all.Â
âWhere is Zayson ?âÂ
He asked, worried, wishing very hard his older brother would pop out from behind one of the stone and everything was just a prank.Â
âHeâs...Heâs there.âÂ
Bruce pointed at one of the stone, and Damian didnât understand.Â
âWhere ?â
âUnder.â
âUnder ? Why ?âÂ
Bruce realized this was a mistake. How the hell will he explain what happened ? Why didnât he do it sooner ? Why ? Why why why ? He wished Dick and Alfred would be here. But deep down, Bruce knew this was something he had to do on his own.Â
That he owned that much to his son.
âWhy is he under there, daddy ?â
âHeâs..Heâs sleeping.âÂ
No. No this was wrong. Donât give the boy false hope. Tell him right away why his brother is buried three feet under...
âWell, when will he wake up then ? Is it weally safe for him to sleep under the gwound ?âÂ
âHe wonât wake up Damian. He...Heâs...â
Say it Bruce. Say it. You have to. Donât beat around the bushes. Tell him. Donât let him think thereâs a chance for him to ever see his beloved brother again.
Say it. Say it. Say it.Â
Bruce had to gather all his will, courage and strength to finally say it  :Â
âHeâs dead, son. Jason is dead.âÂ
It took a little bit for Damian to start to understand what this meant.Â
A little bit for the boy to have sudden flashbacks of Simbaâs dad, in âThe Lion Kingâ, whom Dick said was âsleepingâ. Of why Nemoâs mom wasnât around after that scary fish attacked. Or why Little Feet had to cross the Land Before Time all alone, without his mama. Why Bing Bong, in âInside Outâ, disappeared. What happened to the Iron Giant...
For him to remember Harry Potterâs parents, who were âkilledâ by Voldemort. For the first time, he slowly understood what it truly meant. Harry Potter never saw his parents, except when they were...ghosts ? But they were gone.Â
Harry Potterâs parents were gone. He couldnât see them. Ever. They were in a place no one alive could go.
And all of a sudden, he realizes that both his brotherâs real parents were âgoneâ. Somewhere no one could follow them. Somewhere they would never see them again. Somewhere that would sometimes make Dick and Jason sad, because they couldnât see them ever again.Â
For the boy to realize his dadâs parents too, left and were...Dead.Â
Which is why he never met his grandparents. And why his dad was Batman. And why-
âNo.âÂ
Damian heard himself say. His little six years old brain refusing to accept that his brother was like Simbaâs dad, like Bing Bong, or like...like...
âDamian, yo-â
âNo !â
Damian walked to where his dad said Jason was buried, and although he couldnât quite read yet, he recognized the name âJasonâ being written on the stone. His brother taught him how to write it, because the boy drew a lot of things for him and he wanted to address it to him properly...
âLies ! LIES !!âÂ
Damian screamed, trying to scratch away the name carved deep in the stone.Â
âZayson is not dead, heâs not dead ! He would never leave me ! He said so !âÂ
âDamian-â
âLies daddy, lies ! Youâre lying, itâs not nice to lie !!âÂ
Damian kept screaming, tears slowly welling up in his eyes. His little finger tips where starting to get bloody, as he tried to erase his brotherâs name off of this damn âgraveâ...
âDamian, son, ca-â
âZAYSON IS NOT UNDER THERE ! HEâS NOT ! HEâS NOT ! HEâS NOT !! Heâll come back Daddy, he will ! We have to take the stone away daddy, or heâll think we forgot him !âÂ
Blood was tinting the cold marble of the tomb now. And Bruce quickly grabbed a hold of his boy but...
Kids were so squirmy.Â
Thatâs one of the first lesson Bruce ever learned, when Damian was still a baby and it was such a struggle to put his clothes on, or to change a diaper, as he would squirm all around joyfully.Â
Except now, far were the times when Dick and/or Jason would mock him because Damian caught a tuff of his hair and wouldnât let go, far were the funny moments and laughters as baby Damian literally peed on him more than once, making his older sons laugh too much...
Now, Damian was squirming away from his grasp, crying, screaming...
Heart broken.Â
âNo daddy, no !!âÂ
There was a time too, when Damian would say that. Whenever Bruce would scold Dick, for example. Damian would hug his brother tightly, and, barely speaking a few words, would yell at Bruce : âNo dadda, no !â, scolding him in turn because no one was allowed to âyellâ at his big brother.Â
But now, now Damian wasnât hugging Dick. Wasnât clinging cutely to his brother. Instead, he had latched his arms and legs around Jasonâs grave as best he could, and was now screaming :Â
âWe canât leave him here daddy, we canât leave him alone ! Heâs so far fwom us daddy, he doesnât like it when heâs alone ! You know it, you know it. Zayson hates to be alone, pwease daddy pwease ! We have to bwing him back with us ! Heâs ok, heâs ok heâs waiting for us to take him home ! Pwease daddy ! Pwease !â
Tears were running down the boyâs face now. Down Bruceâs face, too, as he tried to unlatch his son from around the tomb...
âNoooooo ! Noooo ! No no no !! Let go ! Let go ! Zayson !! Zayson !! JASSSONNNNNNNNNNN !!!!!!âÂ
Damian kicked and screamed and cried all the way back to the manor. Kicked Bruce for taking him away from Jason. Screamed that they couldnât leave him. Cried because he finally understood...
He finally understood what death meant.Â
Robinâs Training.
From that day, and although he never cared for it, Damian demanded to be trained like his brothers were.Â
Stubborn as ever, he would literally harass his fatherÂ
And in many ways, the resolution of his little six years old boy, is what made Bruce open his eyes about young Timothy Drake.Â
Both of them wanted to be Robin. One to help, the other because of his brotherâs death...
Damian decided âRobins againâ, and Bruce complied.Â
Although, he started to train Damian making it clear that the boy was under no circumstances going to leave as Robin before he reached the age of 10/11 at least.Â
Damian agreed, and thatâs how him and Tim started to train under the tutelage of The batman...Â
âYouâre my brother now.âÂ
Tim wasnât like Dick, who wanted to make sense of his parentsâ death.
Or like Jason, who never had anyone to care for him and who had to make sense of his own life.
Or even like Damian, destined to become a âRobinâ because of who his father is, but also because of who his mother is.
Tim didnât have any personal motive.
He still had his parents, he was from a rather wealthy family, he...He was just a kid, who was a huge Batman fan, and who wanted to help.
Thatâs what Tim was to the core, a highly intelligent child who just wanted to help. And thatâs what he did.Â
He listened to Bruce, became good at fighting, an expert in tactics, and took a completely renewed Robin mantel...
He would go every night back to his parentsâ house, where theyâd barely acknowledge his existence. How ? How can such a lack of care and love create such a selfless boy ? Bruce didnât know, but he was proud. And was it bad, that he started to see little Timothy as his own son ?Â
The boy would spend most days with him anyway now. With him, and with Damian.Â
Which was important. Tim had become the only one who managed to make Damian laugh, at this time. As expected, the boy and his discovery of what death truly was changed him...But Tim. Tim, he could bring back the Damian Bruce and Dick knew.Â
Additionally, them being rather competitive, they would bicker often, which would take Damianâs mind off of his pain.Â
Damian never bickered with Dick nor Jason. But he bickered a lot with Tim. Closer in age, maybe. They came to quickly care for each others, and were acting like brothers before becoming officially ones.Â
Some could think that the shock of losing his older Brother Jason would make Damian not want a new brother, not want a âreplacementâ...But Tim and Jason were so different, Tim was definitely not a replacement. And it didnât feel right to Damian anymore, to not have two older brothers..
Tim became part of the family before he was adopted. Before his parents died.Â
And when a tragedy occurred, as it often happened in Gotham. When Tim lost his parents...Bruce and his family were ready to welcome him.Â
Bruce knew heâd never replace Timâs real parents, no matter how bad and careless they were, and such. Yet...Yet when Tim stepped foot in the Manor, and had his own bedroom in it, and saw the official adoption papers...
Tim became Robin because he wanted to help.Â
He became part of the family because he was always here to help, to care, to love.Â
âYouâre my brother now.âÂ
Damian simply stated, but with a lot of emotions in his voice, hugging him as a way of giving him his condolences, and officially invite him in the house...
âYouâre my brother now.âÂ
A simple sentence, a heartfelt one full of promises of never letting one another down.
Yes. Yes. Tim Drake went from âonly childâ to brother of two.Â
The Mastermind behind the Cookieâ rapt.
Lighter days occurred, after this. Jasonâs disappearance would forever leave a hole in their heart, of course, but they were all ready toÂ
âOk agent Damdam, are everything in order ?â
âYes agent Tim, it is !â
âCodename agent Damdam !âÂ
âOh, sorry. Yes agent TOm, it is !âÂ
âGood. Now, itâs time to put everything in action.â
Tim became a permanent member of the Wayne family very easily. He fitted right in.Â
He LOVED Dick and was a huge fan of his Robin, and as a child, of the âFlying Graysonsâ. And now, he got to be his little brother and they would get along very well. Dick was living in BludhĂ€ven now, but would often come by.
And with Damian ? Well, he didnât have that many years of difference with his brother, and although they bickered often, they also got along very easily.
Especially when it was about organizing stealth mission to steal cookies after dinner...
Alfred pretended he didnât notice, and would always refill the cookie jar to make sure those little secret agent âDamDamâ and âTOmâ had a way to bond further, and something to steal.Â
Is a sister different than a brother ?Â
Cass came in soon after Tim did. About six months after. Bruce knew of her prior to her being adopted of course, or rather, he knew about her parents.
He knew what kind of life she lead. He knew how lonely, painful and...Of course, Bruce couldnât leave her alone. Couldnât leave her at her fatherâs mercy. Couldnât let her stay a weapon.Â
They knew each other for a while, when Bruce asked her if she wanted to change, to get better, to break free of the chains her parents forged for her.Â
In Cass, Bruce saw a lot what Damian couldâve become. And there was no way he wouldnât try to save her, if she was willing to be saved.Â
And she was. She was.Â
And in due time, after many adventures on her own and as a spy for Bruce...She was officially adopted. Just like all his other kids,Â
By that point, Damian was used to have new siblings, but he was a little worried...
Is a sister different than a Brother ?Â
No. Damian came to that conclusion very quickly. He loved Cass the same way he loved his brothers. She was important to him, and he wanted to be around her when he felt sad.Â
In fact, Cass became his shield against âJason Bluesâ. Thatâs how he would come to call it one day. The very specific sadness little Damian felt when he was enjoying something, and wanted to go to Jason because heâd be sure he would enjoy it too...
Jason was always the fun, and funny brother. The one that would let Damian do anything to him, including the times Damian was being a little rough or obnoxious. Jason never said ânoâ to playing with Damian, like Dick would sometimes do (see previous chapter for more details about all this).Â
And even if Jason didnât have any interest in whatever Damian wanted to do, heâd say âsure buddyâ, and would play with him nonetheless. Tim wouldnât do that either, they were close of course, and had a lot of common interest, but neither Tim nor Dick would just let Damian do whatever he wanted. At least, not all the time. Of course, they would often let him chose...
And so when something happened that Damian really wanted to share with Jason, only to realize that his brother was gone (heâd forget sometimes, thatâs how surreal this felt), he would go to Cass.Â
Because Cass had a knack to be soothing. To find the right words, to...Maybe it was because she didnât speak much ? Because she never had to and was taught to never feel ? Maybe thatâs why, she always found the exact right short few words to cheer her little brother up again.Â
Wether it was a simple âlove youâ, or âbelieve in youâ, or even âwill always be in your heartâ (the longest sentence she ever pronounced at the time), she just knew what to say. What to do.Â
Cass was extremely touched starved. Her father, of course, wanting an emotionless perfect weapon, would never touch her for anything else than to hurt her. And when Bruce gave her his first hug, she realized...She needed it.Â
It made her feel better, made her feel safe and warm.Â
And so she wouldnât shy away from hugging her little brother, wether in public or not, when she felt he was sad.Â
Sometimes, he wouldnât even had anything to say. Sheâd just know.Â
Sheâd tell him what he needed to hear, hug him, and be there as much as she could, trying to fill the void Jason left behind.
« Iâm learning how to read Cass ! »
« Hello Cass ! Cass ! Cass ! Caaaass ! »
Damian was six. And the school year just started. And clearly, something very exciting happened at school, today.Â
And that exciting thing was...
âCass, Iâm learning how to read Cass, Iâm learning how to read ! I can read you bed time stories now if you want ?âÂ
Tim was the one in charged of bed time stories, as Dick lived in BludhĂ€ven now. And neither Damian nor Cass knew how to read.Â
Cass being heavily dyslexic, she was slower in learning it, and would often become frustrated...Only with Bruce, would she make progress, as he was patient, forgiving, and wasnât about to give up on her. Ever.Â
It touched Cass, that the first thought Damian had, as he was about to learn how to read, was that now, he too would be able to read her bed time stories.Â
Cass loved bed time stories. Many would say she was too old for them now, but she missed out on an entire childhood. She never had anyone tell her stories. So now, she had to catch up.Â
âLook, I brought my first book from the schoolâs library.âÂ
Damian showed her, excitement overwhelming him a bit as he wasnât able to stand still, and kept jumping from one foot to the other. Cass took the book, and opened it.Â
It was one of those stories that had very few words, and big images. Perfect to begin. Struggling, she managed to read the three first words, and when she turned to Damian...There were stars in his eyes.Â
âWooow you read so well already ! Hey, what if we learn together ? Itâs funner right ? Right ? Right ? I bet dad would say yes, what about you Cass, you wanna learn with me ? Uh ?âÂ
It was adorable, how excited Damian was. Cass couldnât help but think about what Bruce told her once, how his life couldâve been completely different, if he had stayed with the Al Ghuls...
Would he be as excited to learn how to read ? As impressed she managed to read three words ? Would he be that happy over those small things ?Â
Knowing her own experience, and how similar it was to what Ras had in mind for the boy...she knew that no, no heâd probably be an entire different child.Â
But hey, right now, her little brotherâs excitement was quickly spreading to her. Proof that even children with broken childhood such as her, had a chance to change. To have a redemption arc.Â
And so here they sat, the both of them, trying to read this new book Damian brought, congratulating and praising each others, and being happy about small things they couldâve never noticed if Bruce hadnât taken them away from a certain way of life...Â
Not that everything was perfect with Bruce. He had many flaws. But at least, he never did anything to stop them from having fun, or enjoying childish things. He never forced them to do anything they did not want to do. He never...
Bruce had many flaws, but they would never want any other father.Â
The Red Hood.
Two years after Cass was adopted, Damian was eight now and things were good. Well. Except for...
Bruce didnât want to believe it, but now, faced with him, he had to admit it.Â
There was no doubt in his mind, that this was...this was...
Unfocused, unable to fight properly against him, he took a bad right hook to the face, which broke one of his maskâs lens.Â
Jason.Â
The way he moved, the way he fought.Â
This was Jason.Â
He was sure.Â
Heâd have his suspicion for a while now, seeing videos of the infamous âRed Hoodâ, and encountering him a few times.Â
The man seemed to have a personal vendetta against The Batman, and now, Bruce knew why.Â
Jason. It was Jason.Â
And Bruce found himself unable to fight him properly. He couldnât. He just couldnât hurt his own son...Especially since he himself, thought he deserved all the punches and kick Jason was giving him.Â
After all, it was his fault if the boy died..
Years of guilt weighted Bruce down. And he let Jason give him the beating of his life...
âDefend yourself old man ! Donât humiliate me by doing nothing, come on, defend yourself or Iâll-â
âZAYSON !!â
Jason froze, as he was about to punch Bruce, and turned around. What...What was he doing here ?!
âZayson Zayson !!â
The little boy, down there, kept yelling his name, and suddenly, Jason felt his heart beat faster. Felt his heart start again. All the memories...All the memories...
Bruce looked at his son, in Dickâs arms, and understood immediately what happened.
Dick knew his brother. He knew him very well. And he knew that seeing their youngest sibling would awaken something in him. It seemed like it worked, as Jasonâs eyes filled with tears, and he let go of Bruce.
âDamian...â
Jason fell to his knees, and Dick put Damian on the floor. The little boy didnât waste a second, he ran to his big brother, screaming excitedly âZayson !!â along the way. He jumped into his brotherâs opened arms, and started to cry-giggle uncontrollably.
âZayson, I knew you wouâd come back ! I knew I said to Dad but he said you wouâdnât but you did Zayson ! You did ! Youâre back !â
Tears were running down the face of the little boy, tears of joy. And that giggle Jason sometimes heard, in his darkest moment, reminding him he was still human, still there...Jasonâs hold on his little brother tightened, as the boy couldnât stop his rambling about how he always knew heâd come back.
The Memories that saved him.
He could feel the warm tears of happiness from his little brother warming his cheek, as the boy held onto him.
He was taller than last time he saw him. Of course.
Not much taller, but still, he had a little growth spur, in those two years.
He was eight now. eightâŠJust a little younger than Jason was when Bruce adopted himâŠ
And suddenly, a surge of memory came back to him. From that first day he met little 3 years old Damian, to his deathâŠ
âHewwo Zaysonâ, the boy would say every morning, jumping on his bed to wake him up, bright smile and giggles. When he was three, he always struggled to climb onto the bed, and it would take him a hot minute to do so. Jason would pretend he was still asleep, as the boy would finally jump up and say âHewwo Zayson !â. Over the years, Damian learned how to properly pronounced âJasonâ, but just like âFafredâ those cute childish mispronunciation just stuck...And so, the boy was maybe able to talk properly and climb his brotherâs bed more easily, heâd still say âZaysonâ each times.Â
âI drew you Zayson !â, heâd say excitedly, already showing incredible skills and talent at art, regularly giving drawings as gifts to Jay. Jasonâs bedroomâs walls could be a  âDamian Wayneâs art galleryâ.
âCatch me Zayson, catch me !â, heâd say, running around the manor or the Batcave, and Jason would pretend that he was too fast for him.Â
âZayson, it hurts !â, heâd cry after a fall, and Jason would give him a magic kiss thatâd make everything feel better, and a hug. Then heâd make him laugh, and Damian would forget all about his pain.Â
Flashes of memories, one after another. Birthdays in his family, finally loved and home. Making the pain of feeling betrayed by Bruce who did not avenge him even stronger...Yet this hurt couldnât taint everything.Â
It couldnât taint Damianâs smiles. It couldnât taint how the boy absolutely adored his big brother Jason. It couldnât taint being woken up every day by giggles and a mischievous smile. It couldnât taint years of trying to be the best older brother, to such a sweet boy as Damian.Â
It couldnât taint Dickâs teasing. It couldnât taint how much his older brother worried for him, and told him to be careful when Jason didnât take things too seriously. It couldnât taint the nights of fear, being comforted by his older brother, just like Jason would comfort Damian...It couldnât taint those nights feeling safe and warm, home, knowing his brothers were there.
And it couldnât taint Bruceâs pride and love for him. It couldn't taint all the moments the man praised him, took care of him when he was hurt (both mentally and physically), gave him this new home and clearly tried to...tried to...
It couldnât taint how Bruce truly cared...But if he did, why didnât he kill the Joker ? Why didnât he do it ? For him ? Just for him ? Maybe...Maybe there was a valid reason ? Maybe...
And itâs those precious untainted memories that made him hug his little brother back. That made himÂ
Talia did it for them.Â
âI know you did it.âÂ
He says, as if talking to no one in particular.Â
But then, out of the shadow, a figure appears.Â
The figure of a woman.Â
Talia.Â
Bruce turns to her, but she doesnât look at him. Instead, she says :Â
âI did it for him. For Damian. And for you, too. But...â
âBut it didnât go as you planned.âÂ
âNo. It didnât. He stood up from that pit lost and confused, and with no memories of who he was. And when he finally got them back...â
âIs that why you did not tell me what you did ?âÂ
âYes.âÂ
âHow long ?âÂ
âRight after you buried him. We took him with us, to a Lazarus pit.âÂ
âWas it his idea ?â
âRas ?âÂ
âYes.â
âNo. It was mine. I did it for Damian. And for you.âÂ
âWhy didnât you tell me anything ? For two years ?â
âHe lost his memory. I was afraid the shock...He didnât know who he was. He was not your son anymore.â
âWhat did you do to him, then ?â
Silence.Â
âTalia, what did you do to my son ?âÂ
âWhat wouldâve happened to Damian if you didnât take him...â
âWhat did you do ?âÂ
âRas turned him into his personal weapon. Jason was trained already, his brain remembered fighting, but his heart couldnât remember his life.âÂ
âFor two years ?âÂ
âA little less. He-he got hurt on a mission. Hurt pretty bad. And he-â
âHe remembered.âÂ
âYes.â
âFour months ago ? When Red Hood appeared in Gotham ?âÂ
âYes.â
Thereâs a long silence, as Bruce tries to process those new informations.Â
So, Talia was the one to bring his son back. And she did it for Damian, for him. But things didnât go as planned. Jason couldnât remember, and Ras got a hold of him...Up until...
Up until a few months ago, when a shock brought back the trauma. The memories. And Jason came back to Gotham.Â
Jason came back home, only to realize the Joker was still alive. That Bruce didnât kill him. Not even for him...And so Red Hood was born.Â
Bruceâs jaw clenches, as he feels a surge of pain. How much more was this boy going to endure ? Once again, the Batman was reminded of how important his children were in his life. Of how Damian changed his all world.Â
And changed Jasonâs. How long wouldâve Jason fight ? Would he have hit Bruce, that night ? If Damian didnât arrive, what wouldâve happened ? More and more anger, hate, frustration, pain and sadness ?Â
Bruce knew Jason didnât forgive him yet, and only calmed down because of Damian (and Dick). And the Batman was determined to make amend. Amend that would start with a...
âThank you.âÂ
Bruce could not be mad at Talia. He could see that her intentions were good. That she really did this for Damian and for him. That she cared. That she loved them. But unfortunately, what kept them separated all those years ago was still the reason they couldnât be together now.Â
Talia couldnât break free from her fatherâs grasp. At least, not yet. But at the same time, didnât she let Bruce take Damian and give him a better life ? Didnât she use her fatherâs precious Lazarus pit to bring Jason back ? And wasnât she here, right now, telling him the truth ?Â
There was still some good in Talia, and Bruce would never give up on it. But for now...For now, just like 9 years ago, she wasnât ready to let go of her fatherâs legacy. Of her upbringing.Â
And so Bruce, without a look back, jumped away in the night, disappearing in the darkness.Â
âThank you.âÂ
Were the last words he said that night, and Talia watched him go, her heart heavy and wishing things...Wishing she had Damianâs chance when she was a baby, and that someone wouldâve taken her away from Ras AlâGhul.
Home Again.
Jason wasnât ready.Â
No. He wasnât ready to forgive Bruce yet. He wasnât ready to call him âdadâ again. He wasnât ready to come back to the Manor.
He wasnât ready.Â
The pain and anger was too fresh.Â
âYou started to train him ? Him, Bruce ?! And you took a new Robin ?!âÂ
âBefore you get mad at me for this too, please listen to me. Your brother...After you died, and after he understood what happened to you, there was no way of keeping him away from this. You saw how I tried to have him have as little to do with Batman affairs as possible. I never trained him, I never...The only reason he hung out in the cave was because we were there, and it was better than a nanny. Clearly. You know how he hated being away from us. But I never, I can assure you Jason, I never intended for him to want to be Robin. Itâs just...You died, and there was no trying to convince him to not want to be. As for Tim, it just happened. Heâs a wonderful little boy who just wanted to help and...Iâm not gonna let what happened to you happen again. I didnât let them go out there right away, I trained them for years first. I told Cass. I told her.â
Thereâs a silence, where Jason looks around to his siblings (he somehow gained two, in his absence). He wanted to talk more about how wrong it was to have another Robin, to train Damian to...Instead he said :Â
âI still havenât forgiven you. You have a lot to answer for.â
âI know.âÂ
âIâm just here for Damian.â
âI know.â
âAnd for Dick.âÂ
âI know.â
âIâm just here because I couldnât beat your ass in front of them.â
âI know.âÂ
âDonât push your luck though.â
âI wonât.âÂ
âRight. Well then. Iâm off for now, I have things to do and-â
Damian grabbed Jasonâs sleeves, panicked.Â
âYouâre not leaving now, are you ??âÂ
The boy didnât care at all, wether Jason was âRed Hoodâ or not, wether he killed many criminels, wether...
âWeâre watching Harry Potter, yes ?âÂ
They used to watch Harry Potter a lot, when he was still alive. When he...
âYouâre staying right ? And meet Tim and Cass more ? Theyâre your brother and sister, too.âÂ
Brother ? Sister ? New ones ?Â
Jason wanted to leave. He didnât want Damian to know how much he still loathed their father. But...But deep down, he knew he didnât hate Bruce. He was just...So hurt. Hurt it didnât seem he mattered enough to...
âHarry Potter and the Order of Phoenix ? Your favorite ? Yes ? And with cookies from Alfred !âÂ
Jason had never been able to resist his little brother. Today wasnât an exception...And so he stayed.Â
He ended up staying all night, marathoning Harry Potter movies. He ended up picking Damian up, and going to put him in his bed, tucking him in, as he did often years ago.Â
He didnât talk to Bruce, but he stayed. He stayed, and met his new brother and sister. He stayed because of Dick. Because of Damian. Because of Alfred. Definitely not because of Bruce...
He stayed. And ended up crashing in his old bedroom, which didnât change one bit. And for the first time in those two frightening, scary and painful years...
He felt home.Â
************
When Damian woke up, he was suddenly overcame with the fear that his brother might not be here anymore ! That him not being dead was just a beautiful, beautiful dream.
So, just like he did 3 years ago now, he jumped out of his bed, and the first thing he did was to run to Jasonâs room.Â
The way was longer now. After Jayâs death, they all decided to move in the East Wing, and the West wing became sort of abandoned. In the end, only Alfred would go there to keep the place up. Sometimes, Bruce would silently go to Jasonâs room, left untouched since he died, and it would be so painful...
The West Wing was pretty much abandoned. Jasonâs absence resonated too much, in it.Â
And so, as Damian jumped out of his bed, he had to cross the entire manor to go to Jasonâs bedroom, who kept the one he used to have.Â
But last night was nice. It felt nice, to be with his brothers (and sister too, now !). It felt...it felt...It felt like home.Â
This time also allowed him to get more acquainted with both Tim and Cass, and it was clear from that point on, the three of them would become just as close as Jason was with Dick and Damian.Â
Jasonâs âbig brother instinctsâ had always been rather developed.Â
But anyway, Damian was finally reaching his room and...He stopped in front of it. What if, just like it happened three years ago, heâd open the door to find the room empty.Â
The bed still made.Â
As if Jason never came back. As if Jason would never come back.Â
What if indeed, them being reunited and all this Red Hood business was just a dream ?Â
What if...
The bedroomâs door open, letting some light in the dark corridor, and a silhouette appears in its frame.
âOh hey little bugger, thought I heard your footsteps closing in. Whatâre you doing up so early ? And what are you standing there without-â
Before Jason could finish his sentence, Damian had jumped in his arms.Â
This wasnât a dream ! This wasnât a dream !Â
Jason was really back !Â
He was taller, had an odd white streak in his hair, and was more of a man now, than the teen Damian remembered, but his brother was back !Â
He truly was !Â
Now, now his family was full again. There wasnât a huge gap in their lives. A taboo subject no one ever talked about in fear of hurting their family.Â
Jasonâs name was rarely uttered, in the Wayneâs household. For Bruce, Alfred, Dick and Damian, it was too painful. For Tim and Cass, it was the constant fear of bringing up too many bad memories.Â
But it was fine now, he could say his name, they could joke about how he had trouble pronouncing it and âZaysonâ seemed to have stuck even now. They could try to mend the pieces of their heart now, they could really try.Â
The family was bigger than when Jason left, but it only made his return stronger ! Or at least, thatâs how Damian viewed it.Â
And so here he was, clinging to him.Â
**********
A little while later, Jason walked down to the kitchen to have breakfast, holding Damian in his arms, who just refused to let go.Â
The kitchen was empty, but for Bruce, who was eating ice cream straight out of the tub. Talk about a breakfast...
âAre you pregnant ?âÂ
Bruce rolled his eyes, but took two more spoons to give to his sons. Jason sat Damian on the counter, and sat a seat away from his dad, stealing the ice scream tub from him.Â
The road would be long, before Jason could even begin to forgive his dad...But Bruce was hopeful. He was hopeful that Jason would understand.Â
His son had always been understanding, forgiving and empathic. Always.Â
Maybe thatâs why the pain of thinking Bruce didnât care was so grand ? Probably. But Bruce was determined to fix things. He was.Â
The road would be long, but as Bruce looked at his sons smiling and talking about things as if Jason was never gone, Bruce was hopeful.Â
Even if his boy would never forgive him, at least...At least his kids were reunited.Â
************
Final Crisis.Â
Jason was back.
The family was full again.Â
The siblings were as close as ever. It wasnât always easy, and there were fights and misunderstanding and bickering...But even if just like any other family, they had their little differences, things were good. Really good.Â
Bruce was a proud father, and trusted them enough that he left Dick in charge of taking care of Gotham, as important matters called him elsewhere and...
Thatâs when it happened.Â
They received a call from the Justice League Watchtower. From Superman. And what he had to say
âI-...I donât know how to say this guys. I-Your father he-I...Your father is gone.âÂ
To be continued..
__________________________________________________
I hope you liked it, see you soon with the final part, and donât hesitate to leave some feedback and to reblog, itâs always beyond appreciated <3.Ok phew, itâs 2 am, off to bed. Sorry for any horrible typo or if itâs not great.
Before I get any question about this, YES, of course Steph and Duke will appear too ! Oh and Babs DUH ! (She was actually supposed to appear earlier but I ended up scratching the idea as it felt out of place in this chapter). They will all appear in the final part, as this took way longer than I initially thought ^^' and I wanna write all of them right (and not just write two paragraph because I fear itâs getting too long and wanna cut to the chase, know what I mean ?). For both Babs and Steph Iâll use flashbacks to talk about how theyâve been in the Bats family for a while, I just really didnât know how to fit them there right now, it didnât fit the mood, and for Duke, well he does appear quite late in the Bats stories as heâs a fairly new character so it fits there). By the way, if you have any questions about ages and such in this fic, the explanation is at the end of chapter 1, I went into details about everything.
PS : for people not really reading comics very quickly : in Final Crisis Bruce is rumored dead (he obviously comes back later...with a new costume hahahaha). Itâs personally not one of my favorite run, but I do like Dick as Batman and his relationship to Damian is interesting. Now obviously here thereâs a MASSIVE change, since Damian normally comes in Bruceâs life not long before his âdeathâ. So Iâll talk about this in the next chapter hehe. More Talia too. Anyway I was saying, Final Crisis and whatever happens in New 52 afterward and all = really not my fav. However, thatâs when Duke appears and co (fairly new character, 2014 eh) so if we want him in, we have to go through some events from New 52 and co I guess....ANYWAY HERE WE ARE. Â Finally coming to an age we first truly discovered Damian hehe, when he was around 10 :). Thatâs when the true differences begin.

Whumptober 2020: Day 23 - Whatâs a whumpee gotta do to get some sleep around here?
Prompt: Sleep deprivation
Summary: When Tim gets hit with Poison Ivyâs new toxin, heâs forced to stay awake until an antidote is created. Normally it would be easy however since heâs already pulled two all-nighters prior to being affected, it becomes a whole lot more difficult.
Enjoy! :DÂ
âOkay, so, donât be mad, but somethingâs happened.â
It takes all of Bruceâs self-restraint to not let the sigh slip past his lips upon hearing his eldest sonâs words. He knew the night had been going too smooth to be true, nothing has happened up until Dick called him through the comms.
âB? You still there?â Dickâs concerned voice travels into his ear.
âYes, Nightwing, Iâm still here.â Bruce answers evenly, waiting for his son to get to the point.
Nothing good ever follows the words âsomethingâs happenedâ.Â
âIn simple terms, Red Robinâs been hit by Ivyâs new toxin. Heâs fine, except not if you know what I mean.â
Unfortunately Bruce does know what he means. Tim is fine physically and not injured however he has a poisonous toxin running through his veins.
âRedâs on his way back in the Batmobile with Robin, not the smartest move I know but Robin was there when Red got hit.â
Bruce finally gives in and lets out that sigh. He wish he could have been out in the field helping to find Poison Ivy, however heâs stuck in the cave behind the computer because of a damaged hip he acquired 3 nights ago, he was in no shape to go out and fight villains.
Ivy has recently conjured up a new toxin one of which takes affects when the body is asleep. When the body is relaxed the toxin begins to shut down the organs, eventually killing the affected in their sleep.
This new toxin appeared two nights ago and has been a headache since. Bruce has had to split the family up into two, one half going out on patrol to find Ivy herself and the other half is mixed between working on an antidote (since itâs new they have not yet got one) and working out what Ivyâs other motives are as thereâs reason to believe this toxin is simply a distraction for something bigger.
The fact Tim has now been hit with the toxin brings a new urgency to creating an antidote.
Bruce is disrupted from his thoughts when a familiar engine could be heard echoing throughout the cave. He waits patiently and observes as the batmobile pulls to a stop and two doors open up. The bickering could instantly be heard and Bruce takes a deep breath in order to help prepare himself to be deal with his two youngest.
His sons immediately head over to him at the computer and stand a couple feet away. Damian was scowling, he had his hood up and arms crossed over his chest. Tim had his cowl down and Bruce could see the way his eyes were dilated and how sweat was coating his skin.
âFather,â Damian demands his attention after a moment, âDrake has once again proven that he is incompetent in the field.â
Next to him Tim grits his teeth and Bruce could see how the boy was holding himself back from making the retort he desperately wants to.
âDamian, youâre finished for the night, go get changed and head for bed.â
âBut father-â
Bruceâs glare stops his youngest from voicing the rest of his protest. Once Damian is heading for the changing rooms, he turns to Tim. âTim, I want you to go to the medical bay, let Alfred take a blood sample and then get yourself washed and changed. Once youâre done, weâll talk.â
Tim wordlessly nods and heads for the medical bay where Alfred was waiting for him. While he waits for Tim to sort himself out he turns his attention back onto his other family members still out in the field. He updates them with the situation and gets reports back in return. By the time he was all caught up Tim had retuned to the computer.
âHow are you feeling?â
Tim sighs and runs a hand through his damp hair. âIâm fine, I donât feel like Iâve been poisoned or anything. Nothing is hurt, well maybe except my pride. It was a stupid mistake and I messed up.â
Bruce leans forward as much as he can in the chair and pins Tim with a firm look. âYou do understand the seriousness of this situation donât you Tim? You may not feel anything right now but under no circumstances, as much as I hate to say it, you cannot go to sleep. Weâll be having a conversation on your performance once we know youâre safe and toxin free.â
Tim rolls his eyes in that typical defiant fashion that teenagers seem to have. âI know Bruce, Iâm not stupid. I can help create the antidote. Also, Iâm pretty experienced of working without sleep, Iâll be fine.â
âThat's great except youâve already pulled nearly two all-nighters prior to tonight.â A new voice joins their conversation. The two of them look over to see Dick walking towards them, glaring at Tim as he does so.
Upon hearing this Bruce rubs his forehead. So itâs going to be much harder to keep Tim awake than he thought because his son was already sleep deprived as it was. Keeping him awake for another 24 hours or so was going to be difficult.
Tim glares at his brother. âIâve handled worse. Iâll be fine.â With that he storms off and heads towards the stairs in order to go up to the manor.
Bruce shares a look with Dick. âWeâll rotate people to keep an eye on him at all times. He canât be allowed to sleep until we can clear the toxin from his body. Itâs nearly done now anyway, another day then it should be complete, hopefully.â
Dick nods slowly. âYeah, like I said heâs already running on fumes so itâs not going to be long until he crashes for good. If you and Alfred focus on the antidote then the rest of us will keep Tim awake. Please finish it soon.â
------
The day that follows is interesting for everyone. Much to his annoyance Tim was being watched like a hawk, anytime he even closes his eyes for more than two seconds someone was there either calling his name or physically shaking him.
This of course leads Tim to being snappy with anyone who was around him at the time, his tiredness was quickly coming through and it was clear he wanted to rest but could not do so.
Dick watches as Tim floats about the manor, going between the kitchen, library, bathroom and his bedroom. Theyâve banned him from any form of training, saying that the exercise will tire him out quicker. In result Tim is working on WE reports and case files to fill up the time while the antidote gets made.
Dick joins Tim in the library and silently works on his own files while keeping an eye on his brother. It doesnât go unnoticed on how Tim sometimes pauses as if heâs forgotten what heâs writing, or the way he stares at the page for a good five minutes before carrying on with the task.
Dick was getting worried because the sleep deprivation was clearly getting to Tim now and itâs only a matter of time before he crashes.
The two of them work in companionable silence until Tim groans and stands up to stretch. He looks over at Dick, âIâm going to get some food, want anything?â
Dick shakes his head. âNo thanks.â He watches as Tim nods and begins to head for the door. Heâs glad he had been watching Tim because after a couple steps Tim swayed on his feet and without even thinking about it, Dick jumps out of his seat and lunges for his brother. He reaches Tim just in time to catch him before he hits the ground.
Dick lowers them both to the ground and checks Tim over. âTim, you okay? Whatâs wrong?â
Tim blinks at him owlishly for a moment and frowns, âI uh, I donât⊠God the room just spun like crazy then and I lost my balance I guess.â
âThat's the sleep deprivation, itâs really hitting you now. You just need to stay awake a little longer bud. Bruce is nearly done with the antidote.â God he hopes he is. Without any other words, Dick picks Tim up and takes him to the couch, putting him down gently.
Tim slumps into the cushions behind him and Dick feels terrible because he looks so wiped out and awful. He wants his brother to be healthy again. When Timâs eyes close, Dick reaches out and roughly pats his cheeks. âHey, none of that, not yet Tim okay.â
Tim noncommittedly hums as he pulls himself into an upright position and leans over his work again. Dick studies him for a moment before deciding to return to his own workstation. As he settles into the seat he sends Tim a look. âIâll text Jay and see if he can bring in some food for us, perhaps a drink as well.â
When Tim doesnât respond Dick shrugs it off and sends Jason the message. After that he cracks back on with his own work.
Time goes by and Dick soon realises he hadnât checked on Tim for a while. He looks over to where the teenager was sat only to feel his heart stop inside of his chest. For a second time, Dick is lunging across the room to get to his brother, who was lying down on the couch with his face pressed into the cushions.
With one hand Dick reaches out to check for a pulse and with the other he scrambles to get his phone out of his pocket. Thankfully thereâs still a steady beat underneath two of his fingers but he has no idea how long Tim had fallen asleep for. This was Dickâs fault, he should have been paying closer attention to his brother.
âDick?â A voice calls for him through his phones speaker.
Dick frantically shouts into the phone while desperately trying to shake Tim awake. âBruce please tell me you have the antidote ready! Timâs fallen asleep and I have no idea how long heâs been like it!â
âYes, itâs just been finished, weâre prepping a needle now. Where are you?â
âWeâre in the library. Bruce hurry!â Â
âAlfred is on his way. There are precautions however because it hasnât been tested-â
âFuck the precautions Bruce! Tim is dying we need to save him!â
Bruce continues to speak on the phone but Dick wasnât listening. He was too focused on his sleeping brother, worrying about how his body is going to shut down if he doesnât wake up. Tim wasnât waking up no matter what Dick tries.
âMaster Dick, please allow me.â Dick looks up and is relieved to find Alfred approaching them. Dick shuffles to the side to make room for the butler and watches with an intense stare as Alfred takes Timâs arm and injects him with the antidote. As soon as itâs administered Dick is asking questions.
âHow long until it takes affect? Will it work? What if it doesnât Alfred?â
A gentle hand on his arm stops him from rambling. âMaster Dick, unfortunately all we can do is wait and see. Master Bruce is still in the lab triple checking it over but an estimation will be a few hours or so, especially considering how exhausted the lad is.â
Dick nods his head and takes a few deep breaths, willing himself to calm down and trust Alfredâs words.
The next few hours were awful. Dick could feel all of the anxiety, the anticipation and worry storming inside of him as he paces around the library waiting for Tim to wake up. In that time, Bruce had now joined them in the room along with Alfred and even Jason.
A small gasp soon gets his attention and Dick abruptly stops walking to stare at the couch where Tim was lying. Sparks of hope travel through him as he watches Tim stir and joy explodes in him when Timâs eyes open up. Before anyone else could react, Dick was moving, making his way to the couch and pulling Tim into a fierce hug.
âGod I was so worried! Never do that to me again baby bird.â
Timâs only response is to loosely hug Dick back while he tries to wrap his head around what happened. Dick ignores it all, loving the feeling of having his brother back and mostly out of danger, they can deal with everything else soon enough.

We Donât Share the Same Blood
Batman Bingo 2020: Ice Cream/âYou are my dad, right?â
Word Count: 2026
Rating: GeneralÂ
Warnings: Dickâs low self-worth, is that a warning? This is fluff peeps, not much to warn about.
Pairing: NoneÂ
Summary: When Bruce is unable to attend parent/teacher conferences at Gotham Academy with Damian, Dick steps up and takes his place. Â The evening ends with ice cream and a revelation that puts to rest a lot of questions Dick has been asking himself.
Notes: Dick get a little stuck in his head here, but itâs mostly fluff. These brothers give me life and this makes me happy after such an awful Damian day yesterday.
I also put it all under the cut because there wasnât a really good âpreviewâ cut off point. Not because itâs NSFW or anything. Good, clean fun here.
You can also read this on AO3 here
While the idea of having kids and a family one day had always been one that Dick had subscribed to, he had never thought he would take the less traditional path. Â He always expected to settle down with a partner, maybe marry them, and then have children through conception or surrogacy. Â Yes, adoption had been an option to consider, but he had always wanted to make sure that his family genes continued through at least one biological child. Â Not because he wanted his kids to look like him, but because he wanted a piece of his parents to continue on, even when they couldnât.
He wanted a Grayson to be in the world after he had gone from it. Â He wanted to be selfish on one thing.
What he hadnât thought would happen was that at the age of 27, he would be taking custody of the son of the man who had taken him in after his parents had fallen to their deaths. He hadnât expected to be doing it alone with no one but the man he thought of as a grandfather to guide him. Sure, Bruce hadnât always been the best father, but Dick had always thought he had done the best he knew how. Mostly. Â And Dick had always expected to have Bruce to fall back on when he felt like he was drowning in the ocean of parenthood.
But he hadnât had Bruce.
It had been him and a child who hadnât wanted Dick. Â Damian had wanted Bruce, not a poor substitute in the shape of Dick. Â And the young Wayne had made it clear from the very beginning that Dick was nothing but an inconvenience. Â That he wasnât Bruce and he never would be.
Then things had started to change. Â Jason stopped trying to kill them and Tim was off trying to find the man they all loved like a father. Â And Damian stopped fighting Dick every step of the way. Â He still fought, but he slowly started opening up to the older man and things started to fall into place.
They were good. Â Dick was happy and Damian was flourishing. Â He watched the kid go from an angry murderous brat to a haughty self-entitled brat. Â And then, eventually, Dick started seeing an actual child emerge. Â And he did everything he could to foster that in Damian. Â He tried to give him back the childhood that had been stolen from him.
And Damian slowly became a son.
And then Bruce came back.
And Dick felt like his entire world was torn away from him and there was nothing he could do about it. It had hurt. Â It had burned. Â And he had punished himself instead of taking it out on Bruce. Â Because it wasnât his fault. Â And it certainly wasnât Damianâs fault. Â
So, Dick had done the only thing he could do. Â He went back to his apartment and kept his distance so Bruce had the opportunity to become a real father to Damian.
At least until Gotham Academy was calling him stating Damian needed someone to pick him up because he was ill, and Bruce was not answering his phone. Â Dick had still been listed as a secondary contact and Damian had asked for him over Alfred. Â And, of course, Dick had dropped everything and gone straight to the school he had once graduated from to pick his brother up from school.
He hadnât even considered saying he wasnât able to. Â Not for Damian. Â Never for Damian.
And though the kid looked green around the gills, he looked far too grateful when Dick appeared in the doorway of the nurseâs room.
That day Dick had moved himself back to the primary contact for the school and promised Damian that he would always come when his brother called. Â Always. Â It didnât matter what he was doing, if Damian needed him then he would be there. Â Like he had always tried to be for all of his siblings since he had failed Jason so spectacularly when he had first come to the family.
Damian was different, though.
Outside of the fact that Dick had blurred the lines of brother and parent in his own heart, sometimes he felt like Damian did the same. Â Like Dick was something more than just another brother. Â And a part of Dick hoped that was true. Â Even if the other part of him felt beyond guilty for taking that from Bruce. Â It wasnât like his father figure had meant to be taken away from them for a whole year, forcing Dick to step into far too many roles that he had never wanted. Including, âfatherâ for a kid who would have rather been anywhere else.
âAre you even listening to me, Richard?â Â Damianâs voice pulled him out of his thoughts, reminding him where they were and why.
Right. Â Parent/teacher conferences that Bruce couldnât be bothered to attend because the League had called on him.
âSorry, Dami. Â Got stuck in my head.â
Dick wasnât surprised to see the teen heave a heavy sigh. Â âI was explaining that these meetings are droll and pointless. Â I am performing excellently in all of my courses and I donât understand why we have to bother.â Â Snorting out a laugh, Dick reached out and ruffled Damianâs hair.
âItâs so I can hear teacherâs gush about what an amazing student you are.â Â His words were met with an eye roll before they continued their path to the first classroom. Â And though Dick knew the teachers would all tell Dick that Damian was a bright kid and was very diligent, he knew they would also tell him that he was not the average middle schooler.
And Dick was well aware of that.
âWell, if it isnât Richie Grayson,â a familiar voice called out. Â Glancing over his shoulder, Dick smiled the familiar face of one of his old school friends.
âHunter Blake, how are you?â Dick held out his hand to shake the other manâs but was surprised when the other man ignored it and found himself pulled into a hug instead. Â It was quick, gentle, and over before Dick could really react but it still caught him off guard. Â
âIâm good! Â What are you doing gracing the halls of Gotham Academy on PT night?â
Glancing down at Damian, Dick was surprised to find the kid smiling brightly. Â âUh, Iâm here with Damian. Â Bruce couldnât make it, so Iâm filling in.â Â Dick shook off the surprise at Damianâs expression just as he had the hug and looked back to Hunter.
âI donât know why I never put that together. Â Iâm guessing you two are heading to my classroom now?â Â Hunter looked down to Damian and Dick saw the teen nodding out of the corner of his eyes. Â âIâm Damianâs art teacher. Â Come on, I was just dropping off a forgotten purse in the office so Iâm heading back that way too.â
âI didnât realize you ended up teaching here.â
âWell, they certainly love to hire their graduates when they can,â Hunter laughed, and Dick nodded. Â The trio walked in silence for a few more feet before Hunter was waving an arm toward a room. Â âThis is us. Â Why donât you go get your portfolio, Damian, while I talk to Dick?â Â The teen wasted no time in hurrying off to grab something.
âSo art?â
âI enjoyed it as a kid, turns out Iâm pretty good at it but not good enough to make a living.â Â Dick glanced around the room and took in all the art on display and shrugged. Â
âYou must be good with kids? Damian always talks about his art projects. Â Itâs obviously his favorite class.â
âNo one has talent like him. Heâs by far my most talented student. Probably the most talented student Iâll ever have.â Â Dick followed Hunter to a wall of landscapes and immediately he could point out which one was his brothers. Â The forest behind Wayne Manor was unmistakable but the style was one Dick had framed around his own apartment. Â âHeâs quiet and heâs reserved, but he is an artistic genius. Â I hope he is encouraged at home to cultivate it?â
âI have numerous pieces framed around my own apartment. Â I know Bruce has a few in his various offices as well.â Â If anything, Dick had always worried that they had pushed it too much. But Damian was stubborn and if he didnât want to do something then he didnât do it. Â So if he hadnât wanted to draw, then he wouldnât.
Hunter smiled brightly and clapped a hand on Dickâs shoulder. Â âIâm glad to hear it. Â I would love to be able to say I have a Damian Wayne original hanging in my classroom one day. Â Iâll let him show you his portfolio. Â Iâve got other parents to mingle with.â
âThanks, Hunter. Â Good to see you.â Â Hunter said a you too before turning to approach a mother cooing over her daughterâs work. Â Looking down to see Damian holding a book in his hands, Dick smiled and moved to sit at one of the desks so his brother could show off. Â And Dick couldnât stop the swell of pride in his chest as his brother showed him piece after beautiful piece.
When they had gone through the entire book, Dick smiled at Damian and told him just how amazing everything was and he watched the teen glow under the compliment. Â As if it meant something coming from Dick. Â Something more than it would had it come from someone else.
âWhat do you say to some ice cream?â
âThat would be an acceptable end to this evening,â Damian agreed after he had returned from putting his portfolio back in itâs place. Â And Dick couldnât agree more because ice cream was an acceptable end to just about any evening.
âRichard,â Damian called softly as they walked the street with their individual cones. Â Dick hummed in response as he watched the other people on the street, enjoying the cool but not cold night air. Â âThank you for attending tonight.â
Looking down, Dick smiled. âOf course, Little D. Â I know Iâm not Bruce, but Iâll always be where you need me to be.â
âYes, you are not Father,â Damian agreed. Â And though Dick knew that, the words did sting a little. Â âBut in full disclosure, you may not be Father, but you know you are my dad, right?â Â Freezing in place, Dick stared at Damian as he processed his words. Â He wasnât Damianâs father but he was his dad. Â That is what the teen had said. Â
âDamesâŠâ  Dick wasnât sure what to say.  Did he tell him that he couldnât do that to Bruce?  Did he thank him?  Did he hug him?
âI apologize if I have overstepped, but I thought you should know.â Â There was an awkwardness to Damian and a slight blush on his cheeks, like he was embarrassed to admit such emotion. Â It made Dick melt. Â âI have spoke with Father about this regard and he told me that it was completely understandable, given the time you and I have spent together.â Â Bruce knew? Â And he apparently didnât care. Â âBut I just wanted you to know that you may be my brother on paper, but to me you are more.â
âThank you for telling me,â Dick finally responded, voice thick with emotion. Â He wanted to say more, he wanted to gush all of his emotions onto Damian and make sure he knew that Dick felt the same. Â That no matter what happened, Damian would always be his son. âIt means more than you know.â
Nodding his head, Damian looked from Dick to his ice cream cone and then started walking again. Â âCome, Baba. Â Jonâs birthday is approaching, and I must find a gift to give him or I will never hear the end of it. Â You shall aide me on this mission.â
Baba. Â Dad. Â
âOf course, Dames. Â We wouldnât want to disappoint a Kent. Â Youâd never survive the puppy dog eyes.â Â Dick spoke through the happy tears that built in his eyes at the name, following his son down the street to see what the shops could offer.

Angel of cards (13/16)
Trigger Warning: no.
Summary: Joker, Mr. J, anarchist psychopath, Tom Hiddleston. He had many nicknames. Joker was Gothamâs most dangerous and insightful man, with sharp makeup and horribly memorable scars on his face in the form of a smile. He was absolutely crazy and deadly. No one knows his real identity and everyone is afraid of his cruel jokes. But what happens when he becomes obsessed with an ordinary girl?
She belongs to him. No one can take her away from him. Even The Batman.
Chapter thirteen: the Hospital
"Dear Bruce,
I'll be honest with you... I'm going to marry Harvey Dent. I love him and I want to spend the rest of my life with him. When I said that if Gotham didn't need Batman anymore... we can be together... I wasn't lying. But I'm sure the day will never come when you don't need Batman.
I hope I'm wrong. And if so, I'll be there. But as a friend. If you have lost faith in me, please keep your faith in people.
With everlasting love, Rachel, " Bruce whispered the last sentence softly, resenting the loss. There were gentle tears in his eyes. The hand clutched the paper on which the love words were written.
Why Rachel? Why her? Why exactly the love of his life, and not... someone else? Why did the Joker say this address and not some other address? Why did he name the place where Harvey is?
"Alfred?" Without taking his eyes off the window, his right eyebrow slightly raised, but still with an emotionless, steely voice that had an anxious and trembling note in it, Wayne asked.
In his peripheral vision, Bruce could see that Alfred had entered the room, dressed like a string. He couldn't see his expression or feel his feelings, but he knew that his beloved butler was also deeply sorry.
"Yes, Master Wayne?" asked Alfred, in his usual voice, with a hint of regret in it. He knew how much his master loved Rachel.
"Is it my fault?" Bruce asks with a sigh, feeling the paper get wet because of his sweaty palms from the fear of responsibility. "I was supposed to inspire good... not madness and death, " Wayne's always calm voice faltered. His jaw trembled slightly. A single tear rolled down her cheek.
"You inspired good, but you spat in the face of the Gotham mafia. Did you think there would be no consequences?" Alfred asked, still holding the bottle of wine in his old hands, which Bruce would probably drink in one gulp. "Life always gets worse before it gets better," he sighed again and stood up from his comfortable black chair, turning to Pennyworth.
"But Rachel, Alfred," he countered, raising his voice slightly. It was too much to bear. Will Bruce be able to cope with such grief on his own? Would the general darkness swallow him up?
"Rachel believed in what you stood for. Gotham needs you, " the butler said in a reassuring old voice, moving closer to his master. He just looked down.
"Gotham needs a real hero," a real one. Not like him. Gotham needs someone who can always defend their rights and protect Gotham in a truly legal way. "And I almost let that psycho blow him to hell," Bruce whispered softly, referring to the Joker.
Wayne's hand, which was already holding the piece of paper with the love and voluptuous words, only tightened and tightened. The Joker. This blood-pumping and frenzied lunatic who only thinks about how to destroy Gotham.
And what about his equally beloved Blake? The same person who could always support him when Rachel was away? And if Rachel, he sighed, could be subject to that darkness, he didn't notice it for Blake.
Still, what does this fucking nutcase want with his best friend's niece? Bruce licked his parched lips of honey that had become wet from the tears of the meek.
He must understand everything.
***
"She wanted to wait for me," Harvey mumbled, gripping his aching knuckles tightly. He could still see the pleas and screams of his beloved as she died. Rachel. He opened his mouth slightly in annoyance, pulling his lower jaw forward. Will he be able to live without everything now?
First, the Joker took away the first ray of light in his life â Blake. His beloved niece, whom he adored with all his kindred love. Would he have been able to break into the ranks of prosecutors if he hadn't been there? Hardly.
The second thing the Joker took from him was Rachel. His favorite, his sweetest girl, for whom he was willing to do anything. Exactly the same one. The one who always supported him, helped him.
He didn't listen to Gordon's useless talk. Even aside from the fact that he was a very nice person who really felt sorry for him, Harvey didn't want to see him right now. His obsessive and mumbling behavior only irritated him and injected more anger.
"I'm sorry about Rachel," he said suddenly, after a long silence that lasted about a mortal two minutes. Dent choked on his breath. "The doctor says you have a terrible pain, but you don't take your medication. That you refuse... from a skin graft, " knowing that it would not entail anything good, Gordon said quietly. Harvey only stifled a guttural growl. Idiot. Idiot. What kind of mumbling creature is this?
"You remember that name... what you gave me... When did I work for you?" Dent asked, turning to face Jim, who was standing with his head down and his brown-and-green cap in his hands.
He could see the flash of fear in the commissioner's eyes, but immediately suppressed. Is he afraid of him? But why? What's there to be afraid of? These burns on the second half of the face? Or what?
"How was it, Gordon?" he asked in a more severe voice, squinting his right eye.
"Harvey, I am..."
"Speak up," Harvey said in a steely and very stern voice, feeling an uneasy shiver run down his spine. He knew the nickname. Knew. "Speak up!"
"Two-face. Harvey is two-faced."
"Why hide who I am now?" the man asked, baring his teeth and swallowing.
"I'm sorry," Gordon said in a low voice, only clinging more tightly to himself. He didn't like being shouted at, even though he'd seen a lot of things in his life.
"No," came the steely reply again.
***
Damn Moroni! The Joker thought furiously. His thoughts were now just a hailstorm of thoughts and a chaotic chaos that couldn't calm down. He licked his dry, bland, cold lips with a rough tongue. He was walking briskly toward Harvey Dent's room.
Oh, yes, the very man he had almost killed, and whom Batman had saved just in time. What a good boy he is. He would have to do it again somehow, and arrange a soft and favorable game for his favorite toy.
Although to be honest, Batman was eerily boring. That mumbling, stern voice and thoughts that he couldn't even properly show and say. Were you sure he was Bruce Wayne, the son of rich parents?
The Joker clenched his fists. His nostrils flared wide and he drew in a sharp breath. He resisted the urge to grimace. He likes the smell of the hospital. Medical supplies and equipment. Terribly. It's disgusting. Antiseptics for surface treatment, autoclave, hospital food, quartz, and the patients themselves, who apparently rarely wash, also had an unpleasant smell.
The Joker pressed the black plastic doorknob, pushing open the white door and entering a room that was clearly designed for premium guests. He chuckled, licking his painted lips again. Sloppy.
He quickly looked around the room, trying to find something that could be used against him. His quick and deft eye caught only a small silver tray, but he was unlikely to be able to defend himself with it.
The Joker sat down on the brown chair next to Harvey's bed. What beautiful burns the fire had left him, the Joker grinned. It definitely suits him. And how he hadn't done that to himself before. He stifled a small laugh.
"Hi," the Joker drawled, grinding his teeth together and making an unpleasant sound. Harvey, of course, woke up. The man saw the body of the injured patient tremble slightly and suddenly Harvey turns his head, shuddering slightly and trying to stand up.
"You know..." the Joker drawled again, prolonging the intrigue, until suddenly he noticed the terrible look of his interlocutor. Why is he looking so surprised? Oh, yes, the nurse's costume. In general, he liked it.
The Joker, or rather Tom, always liked to dress in women's suits. He felt to the bottom sometimes... more complete, or what? Yes, I suppose so, considering that it was only his mother who took care of Tom at the time.
He pulled back his fake red hair, trying to mess it up even more. Although it would seem that much more? They were already in a very sloppy state.
"...I don't want any hard feelings between us, Harvey, " the Joker curled his lips in disdain, slightly pinching his nose and frowning. "When my angel..." The Joker liked this savage look of Harvey, who was ready to tear anyone up for his favorite girls in the form of Blake and Rachel. But now that neither one, that is, Harvey, nor the other, that is, Bruce, has a favorite, how will they cope now?
How good it was that he had an angel of his own.
"Blake!" said Harvey loudly. The Joker grinned imperceptibly and raised his hands in the air, as if admitting the truth of the other person.
"...my angel was kidnapped ... " the Joker continued, taking great pleasure in Dent's anger. "...I didn't kidnap her. More precisely, I kidnapped her, but not to kill her. I'll do you a huge favor... My angel, or yours, or maybe Bruce's, Blake, is still alive. And I confess from the bottom of my heart, I'm being a gentleman to her," he saw Harvey's displeased face.
What doesn't he like? His niece is alive and well, she is happy to spend time with him, what is the problem?
"By the way, I didn't detonate those bombs," the Joker said quickly, as if trying to get off the subject, raising his hands again and licking his lips. To be honest, it was not pleasant for him to go without his favorite gloves.
It's terrible to look at your scars. They're so awful, Tom thought, suddenly breaking into the Joker's thoughts. Go away, Thomas! You're in the way! And didn't the Joker tell you that it's not exactly the right time to show up? Yes, and that very moment of obsession.
"These are your people. Your plan!" accused Harvey loudly, trying to rebel again, but the Joker only let out a nervous laugh, after which Det immediately stopped moving, froze with his eyes wide open.
"Do I look like someone who has a plan?" the Joker asked in an insistent tone, arching an eyebrow. He chuckled. However, suddenly, his eyes widened and he quickly jumped out of the chair, lowering his shoulders down and taking quick steps towards the door.
Harvey asked when the Joker was already out the door, but still not closing the door. The man just smiled reassuringly.
"My angel will miss you, I know, but I promise I'll beat the crap out of her and she'll be my wife," the Joker said unctuously, watching as Harvey's eyes began to grow larger. He tried to do something again and began to move quickly, trying to free himself and stand up. Suddenly, a door slammed. "Goodbye, Harvey-ee-ee," the Joker sang.
The man began to walk quickly towards the main exit. Now the fun begins. I wonder if the media will like this show? But he didn't want to think about it now. His biggest concern right now was his angel. Oh, how she must have missed him... Hungry and bored for sure. Well, he would help her.
And now we need to kill Harvey Dent.

gone, gone, gone (but you were never alone)
Itâs dark, and Bruce canât breathe.
He has about six clear seconds of memory - dread, a tilting floor, him falling and reaching and missing - and also, from before that, a vague recollection of what he had for lunch and a sharper one of the paperwork he filled out for HR this morning. Nothing clear enough to determine where he is right now, and why his ribcage is being crushed into his spine.
He isnât called âdetectiveâ for nothing, though. The concrete dust in his mouth and the sounds around him of weights still shifting to settle is enough of a clue to get a vague idea.
The question is, Bruce or Batman? Itâs one that he answers with a twitch of his fingers, ignoring the pain from a broken forearm to touch his scalp. He finds the familiar pricked bat ears there and sighs a little with relief. Batman being injured is easier to deal with than Bruce Wayne, provided that the GCFD doesnât need to dig him out of wherever he is.
When he gropes at it, he finds the protective casing that houses the earpiece in his cowl is broken apart, the earpiece itself fractured inside it. No wonder his head hurts - it would have taken a hell of a hit to break it. The casing might have saved him from a fatal brain injury.
He says âmightâ because he might not yet be saved at all. The ache only barely bounded by his skull might be a precursor of something unsurvivable. Also, he might not get out here, head injury or no.
As he considers that, thereâs a moan from off to his left, deep and rough. Itâs ludicrous that Bruce can recognise the voice from that alone, but he knows his kids better than he knows his own face in the mirror. His heart begins to race.
âJason,â he says. It hurts his chest to speak.
Thereâs a twitch of motion from Jason - absent, and then more purposeful. He groans briefly like heâs waking, the same way he did when he was thirteen and didnât want to get up for school after a too-late night.Â
It cuts off dead. Thereâs the scratch of fabric against concrete, the sound of breathing.
Then, he screams.
In the tight space theyâre in, it takes a moment for Bruce to resolve the strength of the sound into words.
âNo!â Jason shouts. It sounds like heâs thrashing, pushing at his surroundings. Thereâs a dull roll of movement overhead in response like a threat. âNonononono please. Please. No.â
Then, âBruce, Bruce, B, Bruce, please no, PLEASE NO!â His voice cracks apart at the end with a gulping sob, devolving entirely.
Sometimes, Bruce feels like heâs still twenty, or twelve all over again. And then sometimes he feels like heâs lived a thousand years, every one of them more hellish than the last. Listening to his second son weep in terror puts him firmly into the second category.
âJay,â Bruce says, except the sound barely makes it out from between his teeth. âJason.â
He wishes he could move. Touching Jason in a moment like this is a dangerous move, but heâs gone deaf with remembered trauma and his name doesnât penetrate. Bruce keeps saying it anyway, low and calm, waiting to break through the only way he can right now and painfully aware of how long itâs taking.
Jason, who has been beating ineffectually at his confines, suddenly seems to stiffen. His attention is a lead weight.
âJay,â Bruce rasps, the same way he has been for minutes. âItâs okay. Youâre gonna be okay.â
â...Bruce?âÂ
âYes. Breathe for me.â
âOkay,â Jason agrees, childlike in the wake of the frantic panic. âWhat happened?â
âCan you move?â Bruce asks instead of answering. âAre you hurt?â
âUh. I donâtâŠâ his breathing picks up audibly.Â
It feels awful to do it. Bruce says it anyway, voice firm. âRobin. Report.â
Jason hasnât been Robin for years, and would lose it if Bruce called him that at any other time. Now, though, he replies immediately, âIâm okay. I think my armâs broken. Left thigh laceration. Iâm stuck.â
âCan you reach your belt? Right side.â
âUh, yeah?â
âThereâs a glowstick.â
âOh,â Jason says, like he doesnât carry it with him at all times. It was one of the first things Bruce noticed after the guns. Thereâs some rustling, and then a plasticky crackle that blooms into a soft blue glow in the palm of a stain-knuckled hand.
Jason, bubbled in the centre of the light, has lost his helmet at some point - maybe he wasnât wearing it to start with? His eyes behind the red domino are wide enough to show white all around the irises. Heâs on his back a couple of metres from Bruce, in the same foot-high void which is pressing Bruce down, and thereâs a growing puddle of black-in-the-light blood underneath him.
At the same time Bruce is examining him, Jason is looking back. Thereâs a note of dread in his voice when he says, âBruce.â
âIâm here,â Bruce says, deliberately misunderstanding and staunchly not looking down at himself. He forces his hand to grip at his cowl so he can pull it away from his face. âJust focus on me.â
âI need to get out,â Jason whispers back, and he doesnât mean because of the bleeding. His face says he thinks heâs on the knife-edge of losing it entirely, that heâs not sure he can come back from that.
âI know,â Bruce soothes, that half-forgotten language he used on all his kids when they were young enough to look to him for it, or now when theyâre hurt badly enough they forget theyâre grown. It flows, easy. âBut youâre not there. Youâre here with me and weâre going to get out of here. Tell me what you can see.â
âUh. Dirt,â Jason says. âNo. Thatâs concrete. Right?â
âYes,â Bruce confirms. âAny gaps above you?â
âMaybe?â Jason asks. âItâs. Dark.â
So theyâre far enough under that thereâs no light getting to them. Thereâs air, though - theyâd be dead by now if there wasnât. Bruce tries to adjust himself and ends up crabbing like a rat pinned in a trap, trying to keep the gasp in.
Even tangled up in flashbacks as he is, Jason notices that. âB?â
âIâm okay,â Bruce says, a lie that he only permits himself for Jasonâs benefit. Internally he thinks, faintly, fuck, and still doesnât look down.
Thereâs limited ways for them to get out of this situation, and none of those methods will be executable by then. Bruce canât remember coming here or what happened, but he knows he wouldnât have gone anywhere without at least Alfred in his ear. Going dark on the radio is an alarm that will have the birds swooping in from all angles.
Thatâs assuming that they werenât present already and are halfway through the rubble to them: the best-case scenario. Or, the worst, that all of them are consumed by whatever theyâre doing, incapable of leaving their own jobs half-done to dig around in rubble.
âI, um,â Jason says numbly. âIâm bleeding.â
Bruce looks across, finding Jason has moved the glowstick down to try and get a glance at his thigh. The blood beneath him has spread noticeably. Dangerously. Bruceâs brain starts doing blood-volume calculations.
âUm,â Jason says, âI-â
Then the glowstick hits the ground as his eyes roll back into his skull. It rolls six inches, illuminating his ghost-pale face and the slits of his sclera beneath his eyelashes.
Bruceâs lunge to him is aborted almost before it starts. He snarls in rage and pain, finally giving into the idea that even if Jason could wait for a rescue, he canât. His spine, previously spiderwebbed by Bane -
Jason might be dying right in front of him. Itâs not enough that he was too late last time, helpless to do anything but cradle his lifeless body. This time he might have to watch it happen -Â
When Bruce opens his mouth, itâs to say - yell, shout, scream - âSuperman!â

How is everyone okay with this?
I was thinking of maybe making this a series of like cute hogwarts moments of parents moments from George and Y/n especially with kids at hogwarts.... Let me know.
Also something that surprises me is how can everyone say goodbye to their children and just send them to boarding school but also I get. Just ditch the kids on that train and have ten month vacation? YES.
âTheyâll have to go to Hogwarts sometime.â George said, you shake your head. As a muggleborn you had never understood how parents could send their children to that god awful school. The stories Harry told about his first year, and then second all the other years had made you decide you would not be sending your children there. âNo!â you said angry. The two of you had this discussion many times when they were younger. George had let you go your way when it came to the kidâs education, he would sit with either of them at the kitchen table and help with math problems, and youâd teach them at home because every sneeze from Ophelia meant that every nose turned turquoise in her vicinity. Or, every class toad would be released by Alfie without so much as a glance. You couldnât let them out on their own because they had no control of their magical abilities in quite an extraordinary way. They were only eight year old when Mcgonacall was first offered to let stay at Hogwarts after Neville discussed the twins with her. You thought they were too young, and instead you kept them home from school, and the two of you taught them yourself. Which meant the two of you were very lenient when it came to travelling. They came with the two of you when you went to Romania for a few weeks to visit Charlie, they came along to America, France, Vietnam, and many other countries the four of you traveled to. But, now your babies were almost eleven, and you knew that stupid letter would arrive. âThey are so young, George. Our babies.â you argued. George chuckled. âWe cannot keep them forever. They need to learn magic.â George said, you looked at the ground, and you knew he was right. He stepped closer to you, putting his fingers under your chin to force you to look at him. âSheâll do great.â he said: âJust have faith in them.â he said, with a smile. âBut, Iâll miss them too much.â you pouted. George laughed, he put his arms around you for a hug. âYouâll appreciate them more in the summer vacation.â he said, you couldnât help but feel sad, the two of you never had any more children than the twins, only now you understood why Molly had seven.Â
You stood at the platform with tears in your eyes, as George went off to put the kidâs trunk in the train. âForget that owl your dad gave you. Here I have my own gift for you.â you said, taking out two iphones for the kids. You had saved some money so you could each buy their own. You didnât agree with giving kids phones but you felt desperate to keep in close contact with the two. âJust call me whenever you feel lonely or text.â you said, she had a smile on her face. âMum, Iâm not sure theyâll have cell reception at Hogwarts.â Ophelia said she was confident for her age. Something she definitely got from George. âKeep your sister out of trouble.â you tell Alfie. He was the spitting image of George. Although in his opinion he looked more like Fred. Teddy and Victoire said theyâd let them hang out if they got lonely and Neville, who was your Hogwarts best friend, said heâd keep an eye out, and the feeling of wanting to keep them here was so strong within you. You couldnât understand how all these parents could do it. You wanted them to be happy to go to school so you hold your tears. George came back, and Ophelia hid her cellphone in her jacket pocket. âAre you ready to board the train?â he asked. Ophelia nodded. You give her a hug, and a kiss on her cheek. Next was George, who was beaming with pride for his daughter. He held her a little too long as she tried to wriggle herself out of his embrace and he ruffled her curls. You hug Alfie, and whisper that you loved him, giving him a kiss. âDad!â Ophelia said, when George was still hugging Alfie. âAlright. Have fun and donât let me get a letter about your mischief.â They hurried to the train only looking back once, leaving the two of you standing there. You unconsciously held your breath as the train started to move. All the other parents waved at the children who each had their hand poking out of the window to wave. You suddenly burst into tears because your babies had left. George held you in his embrace. âThey are going to be fine.â he mumbled.Â
The phone rang around ten. You pick up the phone, you and George were watching a movie. âHello Sweetie. How is Hogwarts?â you ask. You turn on the phone on speaker. âWhat house are you in?â George asked. You look at your husband and even though you knew it was important for him to know which house they were in, it wasnât so much for you. âIâm Gryffindor, dad.â Ophelia said he wouldnât let her know if he was disappointed if she was in any other house. But, you could just tell he was glad she was Gryffindor. âTHatâs bloody brilliant, darling.â he said: âAre you having fun?â you pause the movie to listen more intently. âOh yes, I already made a friend. Ellis Wood, he is a Hufflepuff.â she said, George chuckled. âOh yes. I used to play quidditch with his father.â George said, you just listen to your husband reminiscing about whose children are in her year. âYou should go to sleep, it is going to be a long day tomorrow.â you tell her before the two of them gossip through the night. âGoodnight mum. Bye dad.â Ophelia said, hanging up the phone. When you realised she hadnât handed the phone to Alfie. You dial the number, it only went over a couple of times before he picked up. âMum?â he answered. âHi honey.â you said, you heard soft sobs, and you thought you heard your heart breaking. âWhat is going on?â you ask. He was probably just homesick. âI want to go home, mum.â Alfie cried. George gave you the look, like you had raised a mommaâs boy. âCan we go?â you whisper to George. He raised his eyebrow, and hesitated. âFine, kid. Weâll just have a chat with uncle Neville.â George said to Alfie. âJust stay put.â he added. He hung up the phone. You had a smile on your face. âWhat are you laughing about?â he asked with a devilish smile. âAt Least one of our kids misses us. Donât you find that a bit enjoyable?â you ask. He shook his head, with a laugh.Â
Not an hour later you were sitting in Mcgonacallâs office chatting with her while Alfie was sitting in the hallway. âWell it is normal for the young students to feel a bit homesick, and it is highly irregular for parents to come to the school in the middle of the night.â She said, she had a smile on her face though. âHe is a hufflepuff at heart like you, Y/n.â She said: âBut, the sorting hat put him in Gryffindor.â you could tell George was happy with it. âAnd you Mr. Weasley, how dare you hand those children the attributes to cause trouble even before they entered the train?â She said stern, you could tell George knew more of this by the look on his face. âI have no idea what you are referring to.â he said, innocently. âCan we just talk to him?â you ask her. She nods. The two of you get up, and George was already out of the room when Mcgonacall said this: âI suspect young Alfred asked the sorting hat for Gryffindor, but I can only assume he is too sensitive at heart.â without looking up from the papers in front of her.Â
The two of you sat down next to Alfie either on one side of your son. âCan I go home?â He asked. You shake your head, George put his hand on his sonâs shoulder. âYou donât have to be scared, bean.â George said, Alfie looked up at you with the same brown eyes as his dad. âPlease mum. These people already gave me detention!â he said, you locked eyes with George, and it was like he won. Alfie wasnât homesick; he and Ophelia just got in trouble. âYes, I heard about it. Do you want to tell what happened?â you ask. Alfie looked at the ground. âOphelia and I replaced the taffy on the trolley with dadâs puking pastilles.â Alfie confessed and the two of you laughed expecting the other to be serious. âWay to go little manâ You said, George held up his hand for a high five. âYouâre not mad?â Alfie asked. You shrug. âLet me tell you the good part about Hogwarts.â George said: âyouâll get punished here enough.â He looked at you and even though the two of you knew that wasn't exactly the case. The two of you just didnât want Alfie to feel even worse on his first day. Alfie laughed because he didnât know the two of you werenât joking.Â
The two of you said goodbye to Alfie, as the two of you walked down the corridors of Hogwarts. âRemember we shagged in the astronomy tower?â George reminded you. You look at your husband with a laugh. âWe also shagged in that cupboard. Where are you going with this?â you ask. You gestured at the cupboard. The evil smirk vanished from his face. âWe should just go home.â he said, George pecked a kiss on your lips. âWhat was that for?â you ask. He had a smile on his stupid face. âI am glad your hufflepuff genes didnât ruin our kids into goodie two shoes.â he said, you glared at him. âI also donât like Ophelia hanging out with Oliver Woodâs kid.â he said, you laugh. âHe always was an idiot.â you chuckle, putting your hands around his neck and kissing George.
Christmas break, and you were excited for the train to arrive at the perron. âCalm down theyâll be home in a bit.â Bill laughed. He had Victoire already at Hogwarts, with Louis, and Dominique at home with Fleur waiting for their sister to return. âShe has the entire christmas break planned. Because she wants to do a muggle christmas.â George made fun of you. You stick out your tongue at your husband. You look amongst all the children in black robes, when you saw Teddy, with Victoire on his arm, with Ophelia, Ellis, and Alfie following them. âMum!â She said, ran towards you. âIâm her favorite.â you said, sticking once again your tongue to George. He scrunched his nose, you hugged Ophelia when she reached you. âI missed you, bean.â you said, kissing her all over her face. She rubbed away the kisses on her cheeks with the back of her hand. George patted her over her head. She had grown so much. Or, maybe that is how you felt after you hadnât seen her in months. The other reached you too, and you pulled Alfie in for a hug. âMum stop!â he said embarrassed. But, you didnât care. âMy babies are backâ you cooed. âI am sorry you have to witness this.â Alfie turned to Ellis, who was laughing. âI have to go find my parents. Have a nice break, Weasleysâ he said to the twins.Â

Rules: list the first lines of your last ten stories. See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line. I write the most random things so if you can actually find a pattern then... let me know. Help a fool out.Â
P.S. - I know it says opening line and not paragraph but come on, that doesnât do any story justice.
Gonna do my tags before because this turned out to be longer than expected - @elwon @stevieraebarnes @epistemologysÂ
1. All The Times Damian Wayne Felt LovedÂ
This was a birthday fic I wrote for a darling friend of mine. The whole time I was writing this my biggest fear was that the characters were going to... just not be right. Still have that fear.
âGripping onto a pillow, Damian walked down the dark halls of his grandfatherâs house, uncertainty clouding every step that he made. At this hour of the night, no one seemed to be around yet he could feel eyes watching his every move. The eyes of the stars in the sky, the moon and the many trained soldiers that had years of practice when it came to blending into the shadows. It was their presence that forced him to walk with his head held high, to bat away the tears in his eyes and pretend that everything was alright. Pretend that he wasnât afraid.â
2. To all the stars that are listening
Another birthday fic (maybe that was the pattern all along jk). I actually really enjoyed writing this fic because I felt like I was back in my zone (my zone being angst). Canât wait to get started on the second part.
âDickâs life had been anything but ordinary since he was a child. As someone who grew up in the circus, his morning was spent studying with the other kids that travelled with his troupe while in the afternoon, he practiced with his heart and soul to fly as beautifully as his parents. In the nights, heâd stand on the sidelines and watch them perform, absolutely awed by the way their bodies moved, each twist, each turn so seamless, every difficult stunt seemed easy in their skin. Clinging onto the edge of the tent, he wished with all his heart that someday, he could be just like them. A bird freed. With every wish, his voice grew louder and louder until somewhere, up above, a star heard his cry. It heard his desire to be free. The chains that grounded him slowly slipped away and he flew with practiced grace. And just as Dick spread his wings, his parents fell. Birds flightless.
Freedom he had asked for and freedom he had received.â
3. Come here, wonât you hold my hand?
Listen, I spend hours of my life playing genshin impact. Did you really think I wouldnât write a fic for it?Â
âAfter chasing the traveler away, Xiao sighed, wondering if now was the time to head back to Wangshu Inn. There he could stay away from the harbour and its people, away from the wishes made on stars that could never hear them, away from their fragile happiness that he could shatter with a single touch. Someone like Xiao, so burdened with sins, could never mingle among the mortals without bringing harm. Wherever he went, only misery ever followed. But even though he knew that it would be best for him to leave, a part of him, as silly as it was, worried that the journey back would make him miss out on the opportunity to see an old friend. While he never attended the Lantern Rite in Liyue, he always made sure to catch a glimpse of the Mingxiao lantern that always honored the adepti. It was only at that moment that he could lose himself to the past momentarily and remember a time when he wasnât so alone, when his battle wasnât only his to fight.â
4. Jon Kent Must Die
A jaydick flashfic challenge gave birth to this crack series and I will happily go down with this ship. Iâve written too many of these and maybe, in the future Iâll write more. Who will stop me? God? I donât think so.Â
âDamian was sick and tired of his siblings.
Never had he met two people who were so dependent on their partners that they needed them around 24/7. It didnât matter whether it was day or not, whether they were at the manor or in their respective homes, wherever his brothers went, their fool boyfriends seemed to follow. The obligatory family dinner had been turned into a circus with Toddâs usual clownery that had Damian rolling his eyes so hard that sometimes he was afraid theyâd just pop out of his skull. Kent was no better. In fact, on more than one occasion, he had encouraged Toddâs rambling as though he was Godâs chosen prophet, sharing his truth with the world. Damian really wished, just for a day, the two of them would simply go away. It wasnât that he missed his siblings or anything. He just wished to have a conversation with Richard that didnât end with him wanting to stab someone. Hopefully a 5â11 man with black hair with a streak of white and deep green eyes that could find a conspiracy in Titusâs preferred pose for napping.â
5. I wanna be in your arms by the sea (studying your freckles so curiously)
Yes. Itâs another genshin impact fic. Sue me. (Please donât Iâm broke).
âEvery night, Zhongli saw the same dream.
Caressed by the gentle winds of the Guili plains, he watched over his people, Guizhongâs people as they lived in prosperity, enjoying the calm and gentle wind that wrapped around them. Serenity was a blessing and they had an abundance of it. In the beginning, when Guizhong had described such a scene, something knit carefully in her imagination, he had not believed her. But now that he was seeing with his own two eyes, he was glad that he had agreed to her terms. Glad that he had formed a contract that had been beneficial for all.â
6. I stay up late and talk to the moon (And I canât stop telling her all about you)
A christmas exchange fic that I loved writing because it really got me back into the writing for jaydick. It had been a while since I touched anything fandom related. Then this story happened.Â
âAccording to Jason, there werenât many things that Bruce really got right. Not with his rules that could never be bent for anyone or his sickeningly righteous sense of justice. But if there was one thing Bruce excelled in, it was throwing the worldâs most boring party ever. Every event that ever took place in the Wayne manor was the same. Classical music. Champagne flutes. Appetizers that could never replicate Alfredâs cooking and finally, the same old rich folks of Gotham who needed to be filled in on the latest gossip lest they melt into a puddle.â Â
7. Now Iâm going down on you (proving what I want is true) Who told me I could write smut? Please take away my license. âClick. Click. Click. With a heavy sigh, Dick switched off the TV and tossed the remote aside after an hour of clicking through the channels, unable to find anything that would keep his mind occupied. Two weeks ago, during a drug bust with the rest of the bats, Dick had suffered an injury to his shoulder which he considered rather minor. But Alfred and Barbara said otherwise as he was benched until he healed, his own city taken over by other vigilantes while he was forced to sit at home and entertain himself with murder mysteries with plot twists he saw coming from a mile away. Unfortunately, even when he hit the gym to let go of some restless energy, he could only do the most basic of workouts, the kind that simply werenât enough for someone who was so used to being active all day long.â
8. Wayne Boys Unsolved
Another crack fic that I really enjoyed writing. Poor Yvonne though. She was really suffering.Â
âYvonneâs body was thrumming with excitement as she peeked out the window of her room, her eyes falling on the black car that just pulled up in front of her house. Four boys stepped out, ones that she was so very familiar with. After all, she had spent many nights watching every single video they uploaded on their blog. They were paranormal investigators of sorts, the kind that didnât believe in the supernatural and lived to debunk the stories that revolved around each haunted location. Because people loved to watch them so, both alive and dead, the boys had become famous in every circle possible.â
9. You make me wanna die (Iâm burning up in the light)
Another birthday fic and the first dark story I ever wrote. Writing this was fun but also nerve-wracking.Â
âI think we need a break.
Two years, three months, four days and seven hours. That was how long it had been since Jason had said those words to Dick, sitting in the middle of the bed they shared, silk sheets pooled around his scarred waist, the white of his hair sticking to his forehead with sweat, droplets of it swimming down his throat and across his bare chest that was bruised red with bite marks, across the autopsy scar that he had been reborn with. He looked like a picture, each feature painted so delicately with colours that pulled, that hypnotised and drowned. The fingers of his right hand flexed, parted and then brushed across the back of his neck, tracing the bond mark that tied him down to Dick, shuddering slightly under the imprint, his heady scent spreading across the room like a drug. Strong, so fucking strong that Dick could still taste it on his tongue. Looking like that, after everything they had done, when he opened his mouth, when he said the words that had been sitting on the tipping of his tongue, it was only to end everything that they were.â
10. Come fire up the night (make me feel alive)
Who told me I could write smut (2)
âStaring at the ceiling of his apartment, Dick lay in his bed, tired but unable to fall asleep, the ticking of the clock haunting him. Tick. He took in a deep breath. Tock. He closed his eyes. Tick. He tried to sleep. Tock. Every memory of Jason came rushing back to him. The dark hair with a streak of white that framed his chiselled face. The plump lower lip that he often dreamt about kissing, pulled between his teeth until Jason was groaning. The freckles that were scattered across his nose and cheeks. Those deep green orbs that gleamed with mischief, teasing and taunting, burning with unbridled fury, one look enough to make Dickâs knees tremble. And as goosebumps spread across his arms, he found himself waking up, lest he did something that he knew he would regret. Like calling up Jason and confessing feelings that were better left unspoken, buried in a special graveyard from which there would be no sudden resurrections.â

If you're not too bogged down with fics, would you mind doing one where the reader has an unspoken anger against Yennefer because she knows Yen makes Jaskier upset? Like she tries to hide it but cant help getting offended on Jask's behalf and is kinda jealous of her beauty? Like when Jask called her sexy (but insane)
Fandom: The WitcherPairing: Jaskier x ReaderWord Count: 1,375Rating: GTaglist: @heroics-and-heartbreak a/n: Never too bogged down for a req! This was an interesting prompt and I saw a few different ways it could have been. Iâm kind of a sucker for Yennefer being a part of the gang so I hope this still works the way you wanted it to turn out.
Yennefer of Vengerberg was a talented sorceress. She was resilient, brave, and a famed beauty. She also insulted the love of your life at every opportunity and you tasted blood whenever she made an offhand remark to Jaskier. He always gave as well as he took but you resented that he was put in that position in the first place. What could belittling him give her, who had so much? Youâd raised the issue with Jaskier before but heâd insisted it was a sort of banter the two of them shared, which didnât make you feel better but for different reasons altogether. The good news was you rarely saw the sorceress, she was usually off pursuing her own goals and your paths rarely crossed. Until tonight.
The evening started so well. Youâd left Jaskier properly tongue-tied in the burgundy dress you wore. Youâd made Geralt laugh, a rare feat indeed, and Jaskier was having the time of his life. You loved watching him perform, in his natural habitat before a crowd of admirers. You were clapping along to one of his new songs when you saw her walk in and your heart sank.
She was fucking gorgeous. The black dress she wore was simple but accented her curves and made her brilliant violet eyes shine. Her hair was done up in an elaborate style and you saw her ruby colored lips twist into a sardonic smile when she saw Jaskier performing. You felt yourself bristle and had to remind yourself to breathe slowly. She was walking towards you because Geralt was there and you prayed that Jaskier would stay on the other side of the hall.
âGood evening Geralt, Y/N,â she said in greeting.
âYennefer,â Geralt said. You nodded, not quite trusting yourself to speak. You heard Jaskier finish and moved to go join him where he was and leave Geralt and Yennefer to each other but he was already halfway to where you stood.
âYennefer,â he said, his voice flat with disappointment, âYou came.â
âWell,â she said, her mouth twisting up into a nasty smile and you knew whatever came next would make your blood boil, âI had heard Valdo Marx was going to perform but I see they were unable to get him.â
Jaskier opened his mouth but the words came from yours.
âMaybe you should go find him,â you said. She glanced at you, a glimmer of interest in her eyes.
âI would but all of the interesting people are here,â she said.
âAnd yet not all possessing good taste,â you bite out.
âY/N! Come, you must see this fountain they have out back,â Jaskier says, intervening before Yennefer can reply. Jaskier ushers you away, pulling you outside where there was a fountain but neither you cared about it.
âY/N, you canât let her get to you like that,â he says.
âI wouldnât but she says the most awful things and you get upset and I hate that,â you argue. He smiles at you endearingly, torn between how much he hates to see you upset but loves that you are on his behalf.
âI know,â he says, âBut truly, this is just how are with each other. We have been for ages.â
âI know you have a long history with her,â you mutter.
âI do but sheâs Geraltâs problem. He can have the insane, sexy sorceress. Iâll take you any day,â he says. He doesnât realize at first that heâs made a grave mistake. Then, when you meet his eyes and he sees an indignation that was most definitely not there a moment ago, he scrambles to think over what heâs said and how this went so wrong so fast.
âOh,â you say, your voice icier than the approaching winterâs air, âGeralt can have the sexy one. Youâll take me. How very generous of you. What a fucking saint.â
âNo â wait â what? No, Y/N, listenâŠâ he stammers over himself trying to sort out the words but losing them in his panic. âWhat I meant was, I mean, youâre very lovely too I just-â
âOh Iâm lovely as well? Oh happy day!â you exclaim sarcastically.
âListen thatâs entirely, thatâs not, Iâm⊠remember when you were mad at Yennefer? Wasnât that a good time?â he says, trying to redirect your anger if he canât ease it. You spin away from him and stalk off into the night. He debates following you but heâd learned that sometimes you needed a few moments to breathe and he definitely needed time to figure out how he was going to make this right.
You find yourself standing on a balcony alcove, tucked away from the crowd and far enough away you can mumble the words you didnât say to his face because you knew theyâd hurt him too much. Stupid bard that you loved even when he made you so angry.
âIâve often found that men are fools,â the last voice you want to hear says from the shadows. You turn and face the sorceress who considers you carefully.
âYes I imagine most men act foolishly in the face of your beauty,â you say, not bothering to hide the bitterness in your voice. She laughs and even her laughter is beautiful.
âIâd say that youâd be surprised but you no doubt have faced that quite a bit yourself,â she says. You look at her, searching for signs of sarcasm but she appears to be surprisingly sincere.
âI came to apologize,â she explains. A second surprise.
âFor what?â you ask.
âI know that it bothers you when I trade barbs with Jaskier,â she says, âItâs become a habit, but I imagine I would feel similarly if someone spoke ill of Geralt in front of me.â
âWell, thatâs very⊠kind. Jaskier has said that itâs an old habit for the both of you,â you admit.
âYes heâs not always the wisest,â she says and you can tell sheâs biting back about a dozen other remarks and youâre grateful for her restraint.
âWhy are you here?â you ask, genuinely wondering and without a trace of the bitterness your tone held before.
âWhy are you here?â she echoes, âTo follow the man I love of course. Even if it just for tonight.â
âAt least you have the gift of knowing that Geralt only has eyes for you,â you say, hating how contrite and petty you sound to your own ears.
âOh come now you must see the way he looks at you,â Yennefer says. You never expected to be having a heart to heart talk about love and men and its many disappointments with Yennefer of Vengerberg, but here you were.
âHe looks at many people that way. Itâs kind of his thing,â you argue.
âY/N, if you take one thing away from tonight, take this; the bard loves you. Sometimes it pays to trust someone at their word. And thatâs me saying that.â
You laugh and she gives you a slight smile.
âWell I still think heâs an idiot,â you say.
âYouâre not wrong,â she agrees, âBut they all are.â
The two of you stand in silence for a moment and then you hear Jaskierâs voice, mumbling to himself as he approaches.
âI was an ass, Iâm so sorry, youâre a goddess, youâre love incarnate, youâre â Yennefer!â heâs shocked to see her standing there and he looks between the two of you, sheer incredulity freezing him to the spot.
âDonât worry, the spell will wear off soon,â Yennefer says, glancing at you and whispering, âI couldnât help myselfâ before walking past a stuttering Jaskier. As soon as sheâs walked past him he comes up to you and pulls you into his arms, looking you over carefully.
âWhat has that bloody witch done to you?â he asks.
âFor the love of gods stop, Iâm fine. She just wanted to talk,â you say.
âOh god itâs worse than I thought. Sheâs controlling your mind. Or worse! Sheâs wiped it clear of memories! Quickly, whatâs my name and who am I?â
âJulian Alfred Pankratz, man that I love and pain in my arse,â you answer. His face rises with the first part and falls with the second, landing somewhere in the middle in a confused expression before you pull him in for a kiss.

Warnings: angst, fluff, a bit of smut (not very detailed), or at least an attempt, also mentions of alcohol, a break up, Ivar is an asshole, Hvitty is cute.
Words:Â I'm so sorry I wanted to make this shorter but I couldnât seriously I feel really bad sorry :( I wrote 5118 wordsđ
gif belongs to @thenorsequeen
The yelling could be heard even outside of the house.Â
Ubbe panicked when he heard it. Though he knew Ivar was more than capable of taking care of himself, he was scared. What if any of you ended up hurt?Â
You were the one yelling, though that didn't really reassure him.Â
"I'm tired, Ivar!" you were more than angry, you were furious "I'm tired of you treating me like shit because you know I'll come back asking for forgiveness even when I have done nothing wrong!" You scoffed. Ivar was sitting on his bed, his jaw clenching and his blue eyes narrowed at you, annoyed "You know what? This time I won't!"
"Careful with the way you speak to me" he said in a normal tone. He didn't have much patience, but when it came to you, he controlled himself better. This time you were really pissing him off.
"I'll speak to you however I want to because if you don't respect me I won't respect you"
"When have I disrespected you, huh?" He rolled his eyes "As far as I know, I'm not the one who goes out with other people to have coffee every single day"
"Alfred is my friend, Ivar" you pressed your lips together "We go to the same class, I'm not disrespecting anyone when going out with my friends"
"Is he? Does he know he's your friend? Maybe he thinks you're going to get married"
"What the fuck, Ivar?" You raised your eyebrows "Why are you talking about this right now?"
Ubbe entered the room quickly. Ivar and you fought sometimes, small arguments that ended up with both of you in bed. This time sounded a bit more serious, though.Â
"Hey, hey what's going on here?"
"Tell your brother to please stop talking nonsense"
"I'm talking nonsense? And what about you?"Â
"I just offered to go with you to therapy tomorrow, Ivar"
"Yes, after coming to my house uninvited, why do you always have to be with me? It's annoying, Y/N, to spend every single second of the day with you"
Ubbe frowned at his little brother, not understanding why he was being so mean to you.Â
"We haven't seen each other for days" your voice was much lower, and Ubbe could say you were on the verge of tears.Â
"And did something happen? No, I think I can go to therapy without you and enjoy a bit of time alone, without you constantly annoying me"
You breathed deeply, maybe to control yourself and not slap him. You could feel tears rolling down your cheeks, and felt humiliated and stupid. While you counted the seconds left to be with him again, planned movie nights and lazy mornings with him excitedly, he was annoyed. He didn't want to spend time with you because you were bothering him.Â
"Okay" you nodded, looking away from him "Don't worry, you're going to have a lot of time alone now, sorry for being so fucking annoying" you scoffed, turning around to leave the room, not even looking at Ubbe in your way out.Â
Hvitserk was in the couch, sitting and eating a slice of the pizza he told Ivar and you he'd share with both of you. He immediately stood up and approached you, worried.
"Hey, what happened? Why are you crying? Is everything okay?"
"No" you sobbed, rubbing your eyes "It's over, Hvitserk, I'm leaving"
"What? No, hey, come on, you can't just end up things with him without talking..."
"We already talked!" You yelled at him "And it's more than obvious that he doesn't want to be with me, and I can't force anyone to spend time with me so" you shrugged "It's over"
"It's just a small argument" he bit his lip "Come on, do you want some pizza?"Â
"No, Hvitty, I'm... I'm tired, I just wanna go home"Â
"Okay" he sighed "Do you want me to take you home?"Â
"No, I'll take the bus" you muttered, shaking your head "Thank you anyway"
He wanted to insist, but he knew you'd need some time for yourself, so he accompanied you to the main door and hugged you softly after letting you go.Â
Ubbe was still in Ivar's room when he got there. Ivar was silent, with his jaw clenched, and Ubbe was trying to get him to say something.Â
"What did you say to her?" Hvitserk asked from the door. Ivar rolled his eyes and glared at both of them.Â
"Why do you care?"
"Because we worry about you, little brother" Ubbe sighed with a small smile, trying to ruffle his hair. Ivar scoffed and looked away.Â
"I'm okay, now leave me alone"
________________________________________________
You looked at the alarm clock on your bedside table. One week. One week and though you promised yourself you'd get out of bed and continue your life, leaving Ivar behind, you just couldn't.Â
Tomorrow, you'd think, snuggling under the covers again and closing your eyes, waiting for the sleep to come to you.Â
The only times you got up were to grab some food, half of which you didn't eat. You were just dealing with it, and having a really hard time doing so.Â
Thora, your roommate and best friend, had been by your side as much as she could, though sometimes you preferred to be alone. Alfred, one of your closest friends, had gone to visit you a couple of times, worried as you didn't pick up the phone.Â
Ubbe had texted you a few times, to know how were you and to let you know Hvitserk had collected all the clothes you had left at the Lothbrok's house and would take them to your house. Him checking on you was something normal, something he did constantly since you became Ivar's closest friend and then his girlfriend, you were a part of his family and therefore he cared about you with that paternal instinct he developed when their father left them.Â
Hvitserk had texted you too, to try and cheer you up with some memes he found on the internet. You had seen him a few times, as he was starting a thing with Thora and went to pick her up for some dates.Â
But Ivar ignored you since that awful day. He hadn't texted or called you as you hoped. Maybe when he calmed down he'd say sorry or at least try to contact you. But he seemed to be enjoying his time alone too much to stop and think about you.Â
Though you had had your eyes closed for more than half an hour, you couldn't sleep. And you opened your eyes when Thora knocked at your door.Â
"Good morning, sleeping beauty" she smiled, entering the room. She had a small tray in her hands, with a hot chocolate and a waffle, your favorite breakfast "How are you today?" She happily left the tray on your desk and opened the curtains, to let the sunlight into the room.Â
You didn't answer, only moaned in pain when your eyes felt the intense light on them. You hadn't opened the curtains for a week and had already gotten used to the darkness of your room.Â
Thora sat on your bed, her wide smile faltering when you stayed silent.Â
"Come on, get up and have breakfast, Hvitserk made the waffles earlier, they're delicious"
"I'm not hungry" you muttered, sighing.Â
"You didn't eat anything yesterday, so get up and have breakfast or I'll call your mom"Â
You raised an eyebrow, but didn't move.Â
Thora sighed, laying down on your bed with you.Â
"You have to stop doing this, Y/N" she muttered, softly caressing your hair. It was greasy and lackluster, but she didn't seem to mind "I get it's hard, but this is life, you have to get up and get going"
Rubbing your eyes, you yawned to hide your tears.Â
"I know but..." You bit your lip "I love him, Thora"
"I know" she smiled and hugged you "And it will pass, you'll meet someone else and forget about him and you'll be so fucking happy you won't even remember it"Â
"I won't" you groaned into the pillow "I just want to stay here for the rest of my life"Â
"I'm afraid you can't do that, honey" she chuckled "Look, why don't you get up, eat something, have a shower, get dressed and we go shopping? I saw a dress the other day that would look beautiful on you"
"And why don't I stay here and you go shopping with Hvitserk?"Â
"Because I want to go with you" she smiled "It's been a while since we had a girls' day, and I miss my best friend" she pouted and you looked away, feeling guilty.Â
"Are you sure you want to spend time with me? Apparently, I'm annoying"Â
Thora scoffed, rolling her eyes.Â
"Listen, Y/N, you're one of the most happy, interesting, fun and less annoying persons that I know, and I know a lot of people, so if there's someone that thinks otherwise, they can go fuck themselves because they're wrong"Â
You smiled a bit. Thora was the only one that could really make you feel a bit better.Â
"You're right, I suppose I should get out of bed" you sighed, and she smiled widely "It's not the end of the world, I mean... There's people with bigger problems that keep going so... I'm going to the shower" you hesitated a bit but finally got out of bed.Â
"Good idea, no offense but you smell awfully and your hair looks really bad" she bit her lip "Now, I'll be waiting in the kitchen heating your now cold chocolate" she giggled, picking up the tray and leaving the room "Be quick!"
You bit your lip and finally entered your bathroom, undressing yourself and getting into the shower, moaning when you felt the warm water on your skin.
_________________________________________
Not even 11am and Ivar was already annoyed.Â
The last week had been a very weird one. He had been feeling down, but managed to hide it, maybe he cried a couple of times. But he wasn't going to tell everyone.Â
Everyone was shocked when they heard about the break up. For years, they had been always together, taking care of each other.Â
One of the most shocked by this was Aslaug. Ivar's mother had taken a liking to you and considered you the daughter she could never have, and she could see how much Ivar loved you, even if he made an effort to hide it.Â
She could see Ivar's sadness now, how he was quieter and his lips were pressing together in a small pout. He thought no one even suspected it, but his mother and brothers definitely did.Â
Ubbe was the one that fought to take Ivar out every day, worried about the way he was slowly locking himself in.Â
He found him reading again, locked in his room. He only went out to take his medicines and eat a bit.Â
"Hey" he greeted, eyeing him closely.Â
Ivar raised his head to look at him, looking slightly irritated for the interruption.Â
"Yes, I ate earlier, and yes, I took the painkillers, they don't hurt anymore" he said, rolling his eyes.Â
"I know you did" Ubbe tried to smile "I was just wondering if you want to go out with us today"
"No" he simply answered, looking back at his book.Â
"Come on, you haven't gone out in a week"
"I'm not feeling like going out"
Ubbe sighed. He knew it would be hard to deal with him.Â
Ivar was a person that didn't really liked to show his feelings. You were the exception, Ivar adored you and wasn't afraid to tell you, but sometimes his pride got the worst of him and he'd act like he didn't care about anything or anyone, hurting you in the process. Usually, he realized it soon and would try to fix it, but this time he was being too proud.Â
"Ivar" Ubbe tried again "If you miss her, call her and apologize"
Ivar scoffed.Â
"She was the one that ended things up, why would she want to hear my apologies? I don't miss her"
Ubbe raised an eyebrow, he knew his brother too well to see through his lies, no matter how convincing.Â
"Then why are you staying here? Anyone would say you're hurting"
"I'm not" he frowned, glaring at him "If I go out with you tonight will you leave me alone?"Â
"Yes" Ubbe smirked in victory.Â
"Okay, then I'll go, but now get out of my room"
"Perfect, Björn will pick us up at eleven o'clock, be ready" he winked at him and chuckled while ruffling his hair.Â
_________________________________________
"Thora..." you bit your lip "I don't think..."
"Shut up, you look amazing!" she squealed, excited. Both of you were now locked in a changing room in your favorite shop. You were trying on that lovely dress Thora saw, but weren't too convinced with the result.Â
"It's too much cleavage" you muttered, trying to cover your breasts.Â
"It's perfect, stop that" she smiled while watching your reflection "You look beautiful, Y/N"
"Do you really think so?" You narrowed your eyes, examining your figure. The dress was black, tight and maybe just a bit too short. It hugged your curves, making your breasts (and ass) look bigger. It favored you a lot, but you felt too... Exposed.Â
"Do you know what?" She smiled widely "Why don't we go out tonight so you can wear it?"Â
"Go out?" You frowned "No, Thora, I'm staying home"
"Come on, Y/N" she pouted again "What are you going to do? Get in bed again?"
"Maybe watch a movie or something like that" you shrugged.Â
"But it will be fun, Y/N" she smiled "You love going out, we can go to that club you love so much... how is it called?"Â
"Helheim" you muttered, biting your lip. Ivar was the one who took you there for the first time, and you loved it. It was big, and never too crowded, the drinks were cheaper than in other places and the music was good.Â
"There!" she nodded "I'll buy you a drink" Thora promised, looking at you with puppy eyes.Â
Though you'd love to stay at home, drowning in your own misery and watching movies starred by dogs while eating ice cream until you got sick, you were aware that she had been worrying about you for days, always asking if you needed anything. She hadn't had time to truly enjoy herself as she was too busy trying to get you out of bed.
Besides, it wasn't healthy for you to keep weeping and hurting for a boy that -he had showed it- didn't deserve you.Â
Noticing how you were thinking about it , Thora smirked in victory and hugged you tightly when you nodded your head with a sigh.Â
"I have one condition" you raised your eyebrows. When your best friend asked eagerly what was it, you smiled and looked at the outfit she had been trying on "You have to wear that"
_______________________________________
Helheim wasn't a very appealing building. It was in the center of Copenhagen, surrounded by bigger buildings that made it go unnoticed by everyone. On the inside, though, it had two floors and a VIP zone, full of comfortable couches and chairs. The staff was really nice and you could have fun without spending too much money or feeling overwhelmed in the middle of a giant crowd.Â
Ivar had taken you there more than once, and you had gone with your friends a couple of times. As he wasn't a big fan of clubs and refused to try and dance with you, you'd always end up in the VIP zone, which was practically the Lothbrok's zone, making out in a couch.Â
This time, though, you wouldn't go into the VIP zone.Â
The doorman recognized you instantly, flashing you a big smile before opening the door so you and Thora could get in. You smiled back at him and muttered a thank you while blushing.Â
"Would you like to enter the VIP zone now, ladies?" The man at the wardrobe asked you as you gave them your jackets.Â
You frowned. You had never been asked to enter the VIP zone without Ivar. In fact, they'd never ask him, only lifted the rope that separated it from the rest of the club.Â
Thora looked at you, confused.Â
"No I..." You bit your lip "I don't think we'll go in there tonight, thanks" you smiled at him.
The man looked confused, but nodded and wished you both a fun night with a small smile.Â
"Wow, I didn't know you were the VIP kind of girl" Thora laughed as you started walking to the bar.
"Shut up" you smiled, rolling your eyes "I suppose they were confused, I always came here with Ivar" you shrugged.
"Oh" her smile faded "Well, it's okay, let's go have fun!"
You had to admit you were having fun. After a couple of shots and a drink, your mind stopped thinking about Ivar and focused on having a great time with your best friend, whom you'd missed a lot.Â
But something had to go wrong, as always.Â
You were busy asking the girl at the bar for another two drinks and you missed the familiar man that approached your friend from behind and hugged her waist.Â
"Hvitserk!" she squealed with a giggle, already a bit tipsy. Hearing his name made you freeze. The Lothbroks were always together.Â
"Hi gorgeous" Hvitserk smiled widely at her "I just saw you, what are you doing here? Who are you..." He widened his eyes when he saw you "... with?" He muttered, licking his lips nervously.
"Hi Hvitty" you smiled softly, though you felt like you were going to faint at any moment.
He hugged you tightly, caressing your hair a bit.Â
"I'm glad to see you" he looked happy, but nervous.Â
"Me too" you answered awkwardly, looking away from him but avoiding the VIP zone, just in case.
Thora was biting her lip with a frown, but she tried to act natural and started telling Hvitserk about the amazing day you both had spent together.Â
The bad thing about the VIP was that it was elevated in a tall platform over the dance floor, you could see everything from it and the bar was just in front of it.Â
You didn't want to do it, but you looked. Maybe because a part of you wanted to see him while the other preferred to know for sure he wasn't there.Â
But what you saw made your heart sink.Â
Fuck.
________________________________________
The girl was nice. She had dark hair and clear eyes, and had been eager to sit on his lap. He had agreed and accepted another drink she offered him. Ivar wasn't a heavy drinker, he didn't like to be drunk and had much more fun when he was only tipsy.Â
But it would help a lot, especially after seeing that girl with the black dress that looked a lot like you. But Y/N would never wear that dress, would she?Â
No, it was too revealing. You didn't exactly dress like a nun, but weren't confident enough to wear that kind of clothes, though Ivar was sure you had the most beautiful body in the world.Â
The alcohol had pushed you away from his mind, for the first time in a whole week, and he was grateful for that.Â
He could feel Ubbe's eyes on him, and Björn's eyebrows raised while looking at the girl on his lap. He could hear Sigurd's girlfriend asking worriedly what the fuck was he doing. Where is Y/N?Â
Yeah, he thought desperately, where is Y/N?Â
The girl then leaned to kiss him, after laughing at a very bad joke he had stolen from Hvitserk. And he let her.Â
It was weird, kissing someone else. He was so used to kiss you that he was surprised when the girl's lips moved in a different way than yours did. And when he broke the kiss, he saw her eyes, not yours, and his whole body tensed.Â
His eyes went to the dance floor.Â
And he found your eyes.Â
___________________________________
You gasped and then cleared your throat, turning around to look at Thora and Hvitserk, who had seen that too.Â
Your friend was looking at you biting her lip, with her eyes wide.Â
"I'm... Going home" you said, taking your purse.Â
"Wait, I'm going with you" Thora took your arm when you were already turning around.
"No" you smiled at her, shaking your head, and then looked at Hvitserk "Stay, have fun, okay? I'll be okay, I'm just tired, I'll call an Uber"
"Are you sure?" Thora sighed, she really wanted to stay with Hvitserk, and maybe murder Ivar, but she felt bad letting you go all alone.
"Yes, I'd like to be alone" you smiled, though there were tears already gathered in your eyes "Have fun, you two make a beautiful couple"
Thora hugged you tightly, and Hvitserk kissed your cheek with a small smile. He felt guilty as he was the one who proposed they'd go to Helheim that night.
Both of them stood there, looking as you left the club in a hurry, not looking back.Â
"I'm going to kill him" Thora grunted, walking to the VIP zone with a confused Hvitserk following her. The man lifted the rope and let her in when he saw she was coming with Hvitserk, and Thora could swear he looked at her in fear.Â
Ivar looked confused. The girl wasn't on his lap anymore, as he had pushed her away so he could grab his crutch and stand up. He was looking through the crowd, looking for you.Â
"What the fuck were you thinking?" Thora screamed at her, and luckily Ubbe was quick and stood between the both of them so Thora wouldn't break Ivar's nose "Ivar!"
He looked at her, annoyed.Â
"I didn't know she was here" he scoffed "Where is she?"
"She left!" She clenched her fists "She fucking left and it's your fault, you stupid asshole!"
"Home? Did she go home?" He asked, ignoring her insults.Â
"Yes" Thora sighed "Ivar, you have a chance to fix all of this, if you fuck it up again I will kill you, do you understand? I won't have my best friend crying in bed for another whole week, okay?"
__________________________________________
You couldn't possibly imagine who the hell was ringing at your doorbell at almost three in the morning. It wasn't Thora, as she had her keys, and Alfred was in England visiting his grandfather...Â
You opened the door ready to yell at whoever was disturbing you in the middle of your breakdown. You just wanted to fucking cry in peace, for fuck's sake.Â
But the scream died in your throat when you saw Ivar standing there.Â
He was leaning on his crutch, his eyes fixed on yours and his lips pressed together. He was wearing his white shirt with dark jeans and his hair was pulled back in a man bun. He still looked incredibly handsome.Â
Sniffing and quickly drying your tears with your hand, you looked back at him.Â
"What are you doing here?" You asked with a frown. Ivar sighed and shook his head.
"You forgot this" he said softly.Â
You hadn't realized he had your jacket on his arm, the one you forgot to pick up at the wardrobe when you left.Â
You took it and muttered a thank you.
"Anything else?"
Ivar sighed again, and rubbed his eyes with his free hand before looking at you.Â
"I'm sorry"Â
"For what? For telling me what you truly thought about me? For kissing another girl? You had the right to tell me what you think, and we're not together anymore so you can kiss whoever you want"
He groaned. He wasn't good at apologizing.Â
"Can I enter? Please, I just want to talk to you, you can kick me out afterwards if you want"
You hesitated, but finally nodded and opened the door completely, moving aside so he could enter your apartment.Â
Ivar walked with small grunts until he reached the living room. You closed the door and followed him.Â
"Mind if I sit down?" He asked, one of his hands grabbed his left leg with a pained expression.Â
"No, sit down" you shrugged, biting your lip "Are you in pain?"Â
"I'm okay" he shook his head "It's just the new therapy, I'm..." he sighed "Look, Y/N, it wasn't my intention to... To say those things"
"You are allowed to say what you think, Ivar" you said coldly.Â
"But it's not that, I..."
"Ivar" you interrupted him, irritated "Did Thora told you to come here and tell me all of this?"Â
"No" he narrowed his eyes "I came here because..."
"Look, I've been fucking crying for a whole week because you waited years to tell me that I annoyed you and..."
"Well, it was you who broke up with me" he scoffed "I wasn't going to..."
"Did you expect me to smile and kiss you goodbye after you told me that?"Â
"No! But..." He groaned in frustration "I didn't want you to come to therapy because it was a surprise!"Â
You raised an eyebrow, sitting down on your couch next to him.
"What?" You crossed your arms "What surprise? Ivar, what are you talking about?"
Ivar sighed, shaking his head and rubbing his face with his hands.Â
"I'm trying some new braces" he said, looking away "These are more advanced, stronger, and if the treatment goes well, I will be able to walk without the crutches... For now I can only walk with them around the house, and with one of my brothers with me in case I fall" he blushed a bit, clenching his jaw "I wanted to surprise you... One day, when you came home, I'd be walking to open the door and all of that..."
You were left speechless.Â
"Then... Why didn't you tell me you didn't want me to go with you to therapy?"
"I did!"
"No, you got angry at me and started talking nonsense"Â
"Because I... I don't know, Y/N, I was angry that day, you went out with Alfred and you looked like you had a lot of fun with him and... I just wanted to make you proud of me" his voice lowered, and he looked to the floor.
"Wait, wait, Ivar, I'm already proud of you! If you were able to walk without the crutches I'd be really happy for you, but I already am, you don't have to go through that to..."
"This is exactly what bothers me, Y/N" he looked at you, frowning "I feel like you worry too much about me, you're always accompanying me to the hospital, making sure I take my medicines, asking me if I'm in pain... You're supposed to be my girlfriend, not my mother! I'd enjoy our time together much more if you stopped asking me if I'm okay every three seconds, or when you refuse to have sex with me because you think you'll hurt me! I'm not made of glass, Y/N, I'm not a weak child, I don't need you to be overprotective, I have enough with my mother and Ubbe!"
You parted your lips in shock.Â
"I don't..." You bit your lip and your expression softened "I didn't know you felt that way... It's just that I don't want you to be in pain, and I... It wasn't my intention to make you feel weak"
"I know" he covered his face with his hands "But when you act like that... Then you go out with Alfred, and laugh and have fun, and you look like you're having the time of your life with him, but are constantly worried and stressed when you're with me... I don't know if this makes any sense but..."Â
"It was that hard to tell me this from the beginning?"Â You smiled softly.Â
"I didn't want to upset you" he whispered, shrugging.
"And you thought that telling me that I was annoying you would be better?" You raised your eyebrow.
"No I... I don't know Y/N, I've never felt these things for anyone, I don't know how to say I love you, or that I'm sorry for saying those things"
"I'm sorry, too" you smiled softly "I overreacted a bit, maybe, and I didn't know I was making you feel like that"
"You didn't overreact" he shook his head "Honestly, if someone told me that I'd punch them in the face"Â
"I can assure you, Ivar, that I enjoy my time with you more than I do with anyone"Â
"So... Do you forgive me?" He looked at you with puppy eyes.Â
You nodded with a smile, moving closer to him to hug him.Â
He hugged you back, burying his face in your neck and breathing deeply. You had missed it, his arms around you and his natural warmth. When he cupped your face with your hand and kissed you, you sighed in delight. His soft and warm lips caressed yours softly, and his arms snaked around your waist.Â
It wasn't long until you were naked, stripped from your new dress and straddling his lap moaning as he kissed your neck and caressed your ass.Â
As always, the fights ended up with sex, though this time it took a bit longer.Â
Ivar moaned when you lined up his member with your entrance and you sank down on it, digging your nails into his chest. You moaned loudly and gasped as he gripped your hips, moving his hips up and down to meet yours. He was hitting that exact spot that made you moan his name, breathless. Ivar cursed, throwing his head back as your walls clenched around his member.Â
His fingers circling your clit and his lips around your nipple made you cum too soon, with your legs shaking and your head thrown back, with only his arms holding you so you wouldn't fall off the couch.Â
Ivar moaned your name when he came, his eyes closed and his forehead pressed against yours.Â
You smiled at him as he panted, his gorgeous blue eyes only half opened and the hint of a smile on his lips.Â
"I missed you" he muttered, pushing your body even closer to his.
"Me too, I love you" you kissed his cheek.Â
"That dress was new" he raised an eyebrow. He was proud to say he knew every single dress, shirt, skirt or jeans you owned, as he spent hours admiring how they hugged your perfect body "I liked it"

Gunpoint
Whumptopber Day 5. Yes I know, Iâm late. Iâll catch up.
Summary: Dickâs been missing for a week.
Warnings: idiot bad guys. Hostage situations.
-o-o-o-o-
Nightwingâs on his knees, his hands locked behind his back. Cuts decorate his suit, showing injured skin below, all over his body. His mask is torn, hanging on by will power alone, one white leans shattered and showing off a single electric blue eye narrowed in pain and anger. His hair is tussled, knotted, completely out of whatever style itâs supposed to be in. Batman isnât quite sure if itâs because of the seven days of captivity or if its the meaty hand grasping onto the side of his head by the roots. Could be both. All Batman knows for sure is that his lips are chapped, his cheeks are bruised, and that thereâs a handgun loaded with a deadly 9mm bullet pressed against his jugular.
âDonât get any smart ideas,â a man says, and Batman levels his steady glare on him. Kirk Nerling: a new big bad in BlĂŒdhaven, someone Batman didnât even know existed until Barbara informed him that Nightwingâs been silent for, at the time, 72 hours. It isnât entirely new information that Nightwing sometimes isolates himself when heâs stressed or emotionally compromised. Bruce was fully prepared to tell Barbara to simply listen out for him and not to worry, but that day was Cassandraâs birthday (to the best of their knowledge) and Nightwing didnât even bother to leave a happy message for the young woman. Itâs entirely unlike him to forget a birthday, let alone a siblingâs birthday.
After some research, they found that gang activity has been on a steady uprise for quite a few days in BlĂŒdhaven, and after some more research Bruce found that Nerling was the leader of that activity, attempting to fill in the shoes of Blockbuster.Â
It took a few days, but he eventually found evidence of Nightwingâs abduction, and a few more days to pinpoint the location of his imprisonment.Â
All in all, it took Batman seven days to realize his eldest was missing, captured, and being held in a panic room hidden behind a bookcase just next to Nerlingâs grand office desk.
Turns out, a man who captures Nightwing earns himself a reputation of steel. He has many supporters now, many gunmen and mercenaries and gangsters to protect and serve him. It took several minutes for Batman alone to make it to the top story of the corporate skyscraper; Robin, Black Bat, and Signal are still in the lower levels of the building, fighting the hired guns. Red Hood, Red Robin, and Spoiler are back at Gotham taking care of a rather large drug bust which actually turned out to be connected to Nerling in of itself.
Seven days. Seven days. This man has taken over an entire city and is extending his reach across the bay all within a week, going almost entirely unnoticed by the bats who protect these cities.Â
Bruce would almost be impressed if his son isnât currently being held at gunpoint.Â
And if he werenât Batman.
âItâs over,â Batman growls, âlet him go and give up.â
âNah,â Nerling says, sighing and clasping his hands behind his back. He leans back against his mahogany desk, the expanse of BlĂŒdhavenâs skyline encompassing him from behind thanks to the floor to ceiling windows. Bullet proof, Batmanâs already checked. âIf it was over, you wouldnât be asking me to let our friend go.â
Nightwing makes a grunting noise, probably made as a result from the hired chunk of muscle holding him hostage trying to make a point that he has Nightwingâs still in his grasp. But Bruce keeps his gaze locked on Nerling. âMy team will be up here soon, you have no chance of escaping. Thereâs only two of you.â
âYes, yes,â Nerling says, waving his hand in the air as if shooing a pesky fly away. He stands from the desk and Batman carefully hides his tensing. He strides over to Nightwing and bends down, one hand falls onto Nightwingâs shoulder. Nightwing visibly tenses, but with the handgun pressing into his flesh, right between his jaw and neck, there is nothing he can do. âThereâs only two of us, but⊠thereâs only one of him.â
Batman scowls, knowing that this is where it would lead. A man like Nerling, with his charisma and business like way of leading and conquering, he would have no need of keeping Nightwing alive once Nightwing fell into his hands.
Taking Nightwing prisoner not only got rid of BlĂŒdhavenâs persistent protector, but it also gave him a very good bargaining chip to use against the rest of the bats. Keeping Nightwing alive gave him an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.Â
A very effective stone to say the least. Though, itâs nothing Batman hasnât dealt with before. Nothing Dick, Jason, Tim, Cass, Steph, Damian, and Duke hasnât dealt with before. Though, he must also remain careful. Getting confident just because he and his partners have made it out of hundreds of similar situations can make it so that this time it simply wonât be the case.Â
âWhat do you want?â Batman growls.Â
Nerling smiles and stands straight, but he keeps his hand mockingly on Nightwingâs shoulder. âItâs simple really. You and your friends return to our sister city, and Egior here doesnât pull the trigger. You stay out of my way, and heâll stay breathinââ
Egior grunts at the sound of his name, grins at the idea of pressing the trigger.Â
âB, no,â Nightwing whispers, his voice soft and raspy from misuse. It sends Batmanâs toes curling in barely contained anger.
âIâm not leaving here without him,â he says, making his voice forceful enough to leave no room for arguments. âYou let him go, and weâll leave you alone.â
Nerling scoffs. âDo you really think Iâm that stupid, B-â
He cuts himself off with a scream, a metal bat shaped shurikenâor batarang as Nightwing lovingly calls themâsticking out of his shoulder, just next to his collarbone. He stumbles backwards and before Egior can do much, another batarang is thrown at his hand. Metal pierces flesh, and the weapon drops to the ground with a startled cry. Batman grins as a body lands next to him, a flick of a yellow cape.
âYes, we do,â Robin says, grinning but his whole body shaking with an eagerness to fight.
The fight does begin, and it doesnât last long, if anything itâs anticlimactic. It begins with Nightwing kicking out his legs and tripping up Egior. Batman throws a smoke bomb, and Robin rushes forward while he pulls out his sword. Only a couple punches are thrown, most of them are spent trying to knock down the brick wall called Egior, but within a minute and smoke clears, two unconscious bodies lay on the ground with their wrists and ankles zip tied. Batman stands up from Egior and Robin rushes over towards Nightwing whoâs struggling to his feet, his hands still cuffed but moved during the confusion to the front of his body.
Batmanâs heart flutters when he sees how Robin doesnïżœïżœïżœt even hesitate to wrap his arms around Nightwingâs waist in support. Nightwing smiles, it not quite reaching his eyes but enough so it could be considered genuine. âTook you long enough,â he wheezes. Batman doesnât say anything, just strides forward and take Nightwingâs bruised hands in his own so he can work the locks. Once the cuffs fall to the ground, Nightwing lurches forward even with the support of Robin. Batman catches him by the shoulders and steadies him.
âIt took us time to realize you were missing,â Batman says, lowering Nightwing to the floor. Robin backs away and mumbles that heâs going to check the restraints of âthose heathensâ as Batman attempts to get Nightwing in a comfortable position on the thinly carpeted floor.Â
âSâalright,â Nightwing murmurs. âSânot your faultâŠâ
âAwe man, did we miss the fun?â A new voice says and Nightwingâs smile widens. He looks past Batmanâs shoulder to see Signal clad in yellow standing in the doorway with Black Bat a little behind him.
âNah,â Nightwing says as Signal and Black Bat make their way into the room. Both look a little roughed up, but otherwise fine. Bat⊠Bruce wasnât worried. Cass is here, after all.
Speaking of Cass, Dick weakly lifts a hand up and she reacts accordingly, their hands wrap in a sturdy hold around each otherâs wrists. A catcherâs hold.
âSorry I missed it,â he whispers and Bruceâs heart tightens. Dick would never forget a birthday, even while he was held hostage by a wanna be crime lord.
Itâs hard to make out Cassâs expression with her mask, but her cheeks appear to sharpen and lift in what can definitely be considered a genuine smile. âMake up for it,â she says simply, and Dick chuckles in response. Duke joins in with his own laugh, Damian scoffs, and Bruce cant hide the small tugging of his lips.
Dick passes out on the way back to Gotham, though itâs because of exhaustion instead of any injury or fever, so Bruce letâs him sleep the entire way. Thankfully, Jason is there in the cave with Tim and Steph to assist in hefting Dick's dead weight out of the batmobile and into the med bay where Alfredâs already waiting with painkillers and band aids.
Itâs amazing how the simple notion of Dick being in danger is enough to get everyone to the manor. Jason isnât even complaining about being around Bruce, in fact heâs happily telling embarrassing stories about Dick from his early Nightwing days to the rest of the kids; Damian interrupts every so often to voice his outrage that Dick would grow a mullet or something similar. Bruce remains in the med bay, his hand carding through Dickâs tangled out hair.
Amazing.
Simply, incredible.Â

Deceitâs Purpose
Fandom: Sanders Sides
Authorâs note: This is one of those fics that just kind of wrote itself. I donât know what this is, but itâs Angst.
Summary: After the events of Selfishness vs Selflessness, Deceit tries to figure out how to get through to the other sides and show them that heâs right. But maybe itâs too late.
Warnings: Does this count as sympathetic Deceit? Iâm really not sure. Morally gray, maybe? Heâs not a sweet angel or anything, but heâs not horrible. Also, because itâs from Deceitâs perspective, Patton and Virgil are kinda vilified a bit. Expect arguing, lying, talk of lying and the morality of it, a wedding, insults, kind of depression, and an UNHAPPY ENDING. Shocker, I know.

Deceit paced back and forth in his room, angrily flinging his hat and gloves at the bed and fisting his hands in his hair.
Why were the other sides so ridiculously stubborn? So completely unwilling to listen to him?
Sure, he was Deceit. Sure, he lied. A lot. Maybe. But that didnât make him bad.
Deceitâs main function was, well, deceit. But that wasnât always wrong, and it didnât always simply entail him trying to get Thomas to lie with reckless abandon. He had more class than that. More finesse. More sense.
Deceit didnât just try to make Thomas lie: he also worked to get Thomas to recognize his lies, to be aware of themâespecially when he was lying to himself. Especially when he was hurting himself by pretending to be something or someone that he wasnât. Deceit was trying to look out for Thomas! To protect him! The others had even admitted as much the first time that Deceit had revealed himself to their host. So why did the so-called âlight sidesâ still treat him like some horrible, irredeemable piece of garbage?
Now, not only was Thomas not going to the callback, but he was going to the wedding instead. An event he was most certainly not looking forward to. Thomasâs role in it was limited to simply watching the ceremony and saying a brief âhelloâ to the newlyweds to prove he was there. All it was going to do was make Thomas miserable and satisfy Pattonâs need for Thomas to be some kind of morally pure, selfless angel.
But Thomas wasnât an angel. He was a human. As a human, shouldnât he get to be selfish sometimes? Especially when it came to once-in-a-lifetime opportunities like this?
Recently, Deceit had been trying to change things, to make them all more aware that Thomas needed to do things for himself sometimes. But it was beginning to feel pointless. Maybe they would never listen, certainly not to a liar like him. Their perceptions were too clouded by what Deceit was.
All heâd wanted to do with the court room scenario was teach the others a lesson and try to convince them to let Thomas do what was best for him for once. Truthfulness was not always the only good option. Selfishness was not inherently inferior to selflessness. Being deceitful did not inherently mean being a bad person.
Deceit wanted to help Thomas; and since he knew the others were hell-bent against Deceit, especially a certain overgrown child and a certain angry purple raccoon, heâd been trying to do it while disguised as one of the âlight sidesâ.
But acting was hard. Deceit was not the creative side, and Thomas simply was not a good liarâtherefore, much of the time, neither was Deceit. Even worse, the others didnât exactly hang out with him a lot, so it was hard to get an idea of how to properly mimic them. He still did his best, but clearly it wasnât working.
So, how was Deceit meant to help his host, to do his job? To keep Thomas from becoming someone that others simply used, took for granted, and tossed aside? He wasnât going to duck outâhe wouldnât do that to Thomas, and based on the othersâ behavior so far, they probably wouldnât miss him until the damage was unfixable.
Deceit continued to pace, wracking his imaginary brains for something, anything, he could do to fix this.
But perhaps the damage was done. Perhaps there was nothing Deceit could do to convince them that he was worth listening to. This seemed particularly true in the case of the callback. The others, even Roman, Thomasâs creative drive, were set on making Thomas go to the wedding. All because Deceit had happened to be the one to most seriously try to get him to go to the callback instead.
And now there would be no callback. No Alfred Hitchcoppolucas. No movie, no fame, no fortune, no more doors opened for Thomas. Just more of the same. Just more of the main four sides forcing Thomas to do what they wanted, what Morality wanted.
Heck, the deciding factor that made Deceit choose to pop up in the first place during the callback vs. wedding debate had been the fact that Patton had just kept talking over Thomas, telling him what he needed to do without even asking Thomas what he actually wanted to do.
âŠ
As time went on and the day of the callback and wedding neared, Deceit continued to try to change the othersâ minds. But, of course, it didnât work. Virgil would just yell, or hiss, or simply roll his eyes and leave. Roman would be clearly conflicted, but ultimately deny him, his mind already made up. Patton would point fingers and lecture him on right and wrong, leaving no room for Deceitâs argument. Logan might have listened to him more, but he was still mad at being mostly left out during the courtroom scenario. That may have been a mistake on Deceitâs part, in hindsight, but it was also yet another thing that he could not change. And any time he tried to speak directly with Thomas, Thomas would either immediately banish him, or Virgil would pop up and make him do it.
So, when April 13th finally came, Thomas went to the wedding. He missed the callback. And just as Deceit had expected, as Thomas himself had expected, Thomas had a terrible time. They all did, really.
Virgil spent the whole day anxious about everything that could go wrong. Roman was miserable, both because of the missed callback and because of the loneliness that the wedding dredged up inside him. Logan claimed to be unaffected, but Deceit knew that he felt that the callback would have better served Thomasâs needs and wants in life, even if not going to the callback was akin to Thomas having never gotten the opportunity in the first place. Patton was all but drowning in nostalgia and other feelings. Deceit, meanwhile, spent the day having Thomas lie about the fact that there was somewhere else that he would very much rather have been than at that wedding. And Thomas himself felt all of that.
It was a long day, in short.
Afterwards, Deceit was sitting in the dark, theoretically watching The Phantom of the Opera on the television in the commons of the mind palace. The television was on silent, Deceitâs head resting on one gloved hand as he watched the screen with glazed eyes, his mind elsewhere entirely.
âUgh,â a voice said, interrupting his thoughts. âWhat are you doing here?â
âOh, hello, Virgil. Youâre exactly who I was hoping to run into this evening,â Deceit said, rolling his eyes.
âJust get out already. You lost, okay? Thereâs no point hanging around and bothering everyone anymore! Just GET OUT!â
Deceit turned to look at him. âOh, of course. The entire mind palace belongs to you and your pals, how could I have forgotten?â
âDude, if this is some pathetic woe-is-me act to try to get us to sympathize with you, itâs not going to work.â
Deceit, deciding he didnât have the energy for this tonight, just released a heavy sigh and turned his gaze back to the television.
Virgil snapped his fingers, and the screen went dark. Deceit made a point of snapping his own a half-second later, turning it back on. Virgil growled at him. That was unusual, Deceit noted. Usually when Virgil chose to mimic an animal noise, he favored hissing. Roman was more of a growler.
âWhy. Are. You. Here,â Virgil demanded, snapping his fingers again. This time, Deceit didnât turn the show back on. He knew it would just lead to an endless, frivolous fight of turning the television on and off again. The main sides were rather ridiculous, after all.
âBecause youâre completely incorrect,â Deceit drawled. âThereâs plenty of time to change things. Thomas can still go to the callback, and even barring that, he can get another opportunity like this one! They just grow on trees, after all.â
Virgil frowned at him.
âI was going to watch a movie,â Virgil said.
âWell, clearly, no one else is watching anything right now,â Deceit said.
Virgil, even though he surely knew what Deceit meant by that, shrugged and snapped his fingers. A different movie started playing, Phantom of the Opera gone.
âI wasnât watching that!â
âI donât care. Donât you get it? We donât want you here. I donât want you here. Just go! Get out of here!â
âNo!â
Virgil threw himself onto the couch and put his legs up on it, crowding Deceit into the cornerâas petty of a tactic as all get out.
âWhy not? You donât even do anything good for Thomas. All you do is show up in cartoonishly awful costumes and jeopardize all of his friendships! How is that helping? All you do is lie.â
âThat isnât all I do,â Deceit said, his voice shaking from anger, but slow and deliberate.
âAh, he admits it.â
âYes! I meanâNo, I donât! Iâm not just deceit!â
âIt is literally your name. You are Deceit.â
âYou arenât just Anxiety, are you?â
âThatâs different.â
âIs it? Is it so hard to believe that I might be useful for things other than deception? You may be Anxiety, but you are also Virgil, correct?â Deceit was practically vibrating with anger now. Why did the others refuse to understand? Why did his primary function have to make getting his point across so much more difficult?
âDeceitâ.â
âMy name isnât Deceit! My name is ETHAN!â
Virgil stopped. He stared for a moment, eyes wide. For a second, Deceit thought that maybe, heâd actually gotten through to him. Maybe, heâd actually found a way to start to prove to Virgil that he wasnât just a single function, incapable of being anything more, of being anything good.
But then Virgilâs gaze hardened.
âThatâs just another lie.â

                           ~*~
Roy has to leave Jason. Both of the omega were distress but they listen to their logical brain.
They know Roy have to retrieve Lian. She can stay at Star City indefinitely with Dinah and Ollie. Especially because Jason want to see her. Since Jason will stay at this hospital, they also have to move at Gotham. Fortunately, Jason still has a few safe houses so Roy have just to bring some of their things so Roy and Lian can live comfortably here.
âI will bring you yours books. Roy said before leave
-You realize that there will not have any place in this room. Jason smile
-Only your favorites ones then.â
They kiss then Roy leaves.
At first, Jason doesnât believe he can fall asleep. Every time his eyes start closed, he was afraid that when they will open up again his baby will be definitely gone. He keeps rub his belly humming a lullaby. Then finally he was too tired.
When he wakes up, he jumps surprised and disoriented. He didnât understand why he was feeling so unsafe.
Then he saw Bruce appears in one of the corner of the room.
âWhat the fuck? B, what are you doing here?
-I told you I will come back. Bruce said seating on the bed
-He is fucking one a.m. Jason groans after looking at his phone. Why are you here now?
-Youâre in hospital
.-No shit Sherlock.Â
-You are pregnant.
-Yeah, so what? You will give The talk after or before you tell me how stupid I was?
-JasonâŠ
-What? Like you donât want say: âHow can you be so stupid in using Catherineâs maiden name, Jason? How can you think you can be a mother, Jason? Why do you think we needed it you, Jason? You only cause trouble, Jason.â
-Jason, please âŠ
-No. Shut up. I donât want listen to you. Just go.
-Ok, I will leave. Bruce concedes after a long silence. But first I have to warn you.
-Warn me about what? Jason asks afraid he puts his arms on his belly
-I ⊠I didnât react the way I should have when Dick and Kate bring you to the hospital.
-What did you do?
-I tell the hospital you were my son, as Bruce Wayne. Bruce admit
-Are you serious? Jason start to yell-
Look I just wanted tell you that the journalist may come here.
-May? They will come! I canât believe you ⊠Fuck. And I was thinking that I was stupid.
-Of course we will do everything so you can rest and focus on your and your childâs health.
-What will you do? Jason asks suspicious
-Well, we will be kept an eye on the hospital to be sure none journalists come bother you. Bruce said like he explains a plan to the Justice League or a project to the board of the Wayne Company. We will make sure the story of your coming back to the family will be legal, you will be âŠ
-No.
-What?
-I will not coming back to the family. It is out of question. Forget about it.
-Why? It will be simpler.
-No it wouldnât be. Roy and I are both omega. In the United State, an alpha from our packs can easily found a judge who you agree to entrust our children with him, withdrawing their guard. So no, there is no way I accept you as legally my alpha.
-Oliver Queen is Royâs alpha. I know you let him babysitting Lian. Bruce said trying to understand Jasonâs refusal
-We made him sign paper abandonment of kinship on our children. Roy and him discuss about a compromise if he wanted part of Royâs life, part of our childrenâs life. He didnât appear in our life like he own the place clamming to anyone that Roy is his omega!
-But ⊠Jason ⊠Bruce said dazed, you donât believe I want take you your child, do you?
-I think you can do anything if you're sure you're right.â
Bruce canât believe he really hear that. But Jasonâs scent smell distrust and he keeps his arms protecting his belly and he fold up his leg against him.
Bruce knows how to control his smell but this time he canât hide on distress he feels.Â
âI knew ⊠Of course I knew even before you ⊠before you go to Ethiopia that our relationship wasnât ⊠perfect. Why would you have run away otherwise if you were happy at the Manor? But I ⊠I always that you knew ⊠Since I found you in Crime Alley the only think I wish for you was to be happy and wealthy. That the only thing I want for you. Do you trust me?â
Jason looks deeply at Bruce trying to read his mind. He believes that Bruce was honest here with him. When he died, he didnât doubt that Bruce loved him. Even after his bloody coming back, even after all their argument, he still believes it.
But he also believes that Bruce is a control freak, that he didnât trust Jasonâs choice. And heâs ready to anything if he though he has right.
âNo. Jason realizes. I donât trust you. Whether you find a story explain why Brucie Wayne though that Jason Johnson is his son, which he isnât, and you can still be part of my life, whether you leave.
-Jason, let me think about that.
-What do you have to though?â
Bruce stays silent while Jason observes him with a frown. After a while, Jason said astonished:
âYou will not even propose to sign the paper?
-Of course not. Bruce answers honestly. I canât sign this.
-I canât believe you.â
Suddenly, Bruce realizes that Jason has tested him, and for now, he fails the test. But if Jason could listen to him, he will understand why Bruce is right.
âJason, you have to think about what will happen to your children if Roy and you died.
-What?
-If Oliver and I sign this paper, when after your death your children will be put on the system. You have no more parents beside us.
-Because you think that this time, you will survive us?
-Jason âŠ
-And you have the pretension to believe Roy and I want you to have custody of our children?
-They will be my family. Bruce argues. I am wealthyâŠ
-Youâre a control freak and youâve got the emotional range of a teaspoon! Youâre really thought we want our children alone in your gloomy manor with only Alfred as company?
-It was not so awful when I took care of you, was it?
-Look at all your children. Have you really no idea how you make us feel?
-Jason, do you really prefer your children put on the system rather than with me? Bruce asks judgmental
-Of course they will not put on the system. We will choose a guardian. You know what? I donât have talk to you about that. Just ⊠just leave. Jason whispers tired
-Ok ⊠Ok.â
Bruce raises his hand to stroke Jasonâs hair but he moves his head so Bruce canât touch him.
âDonât come back.â
Bruce didnât insist and disappears.
                          ~*~
After that, Jason was unable to sleep again. He was tetanized that abruptly someone will come force him to abandon his child after their birth. Roy seems like he has forgiven him for putting them in a dangerous situation, like he agree that Jason stay in their life. He doesnât want judgmental Bruce to interfere.
When the nurse comes take his blood pressure, they almost suffocate in his frightened and vulnerable scent.
âWhatâs going on? Are you in pain somewhere?â They asks gently
Jason shakes his head.
âI just ⊠Shit ⊠Sorry âŠ
-First pregnancy?â
Jason nods miserably.
âDonât worry. It is pretty normal you feel like shit during all your pregnancy. Sometimes for nothing.
-I wish I knew that.
-Thatâs ok. Do you need more blanket? A phone to call someone?
-My mate will come today with some of my stuff. I will be good until now.
-Ok. In the meantime donât hesitate watch the TV.
-Thanks.â
Jason watches a random TV channel trying to calm him vainly.
When finally Roy and Lian visit him, he starts to relax. Lian jumps on his bed crying.
âJayjay! She screams hug him
-Hey Sweetheart. Shh. Everything will be alright.â
Roy put Jasonâs things before kiss him and murmur him:
âI have your books, your phone and PC.
-Thank you.
-Why are you in a hospital? Lian asks
-Just a too little problem with the baby. Nothingâs too bad.
-So you come back to home with us?
-Not today. The doctor wants to be sure the baby will be ok.
-Jayjay may stay here for all the pregnancy. Roy adds
-What? Thatâs not good!â
Roy and Jason smile at her tenderly while hugging her.
âEverything will be alright. Roy said as much for Lian than for Jason. While you and I will have fun in Gotham. Jayjay could studies peacefully for his test.
-F⊠Fudge! Jason realizes. My test! I have to go to the college to pass them.
-No, I call them and they say with a sicknote you could have a permission to pass them by correspondence.
-You already call them? Jason asks amazed
-Of course. Well the jet lag helps. It was afternoon for them.
-Thanks Roy. I love you.
-I love you too.â
They kiss tenderly while Lian still hug Jason, rubbing her head on Jasonâs scent gland. Jason and Roy discuss about Bruceâs visit via their phone for not disturb more Lian.
If Lian finally calm down with one of her coloring book, Roy was visibly angry with each sentence Jason send him.
âI canât believe him. Roy sends
-I can.
-We will find a way not let him prevail on our life. Ok?
-Ok.â
They smile to each other before Lian shows them her drawing.
âThatâs beautiful, Pumpkins.
-Very lovely.
-Thank you. She said proudly
-Before I forget, Roy said, Dinah and Oliver want know if they can come visit you. Do you want see them?
-They want see me?
-Of course. I explain the situation to Dinah when I was recovering Lian, so they are worried now.
-Thatâs nice of them. Yes. They can come if they really want.
-Didi and Ollie come? When?â Lian asks with bright eyes
Oliver was still pretty uncomfortable with them and make up by brings gifts for Lian every time he comes visit them. And Lian noticed the pattern.
âDonât know yet. Maybe this week.
-Cool.â She smiles
                          ~*~
The doctor comes to Jasonâs room to know how he feels and to inform him that she wants him have some test like ultrasound to monitor evolution of the hematoma.
âWhatâs a hematoma? Lian asks curiously
-It is a thick mass of blood anywhere in the body resulting from an injury or blood disorder. Doctor Armstrong answers without thinking
-Is that a bad thing? She starts to panic
-No. Roy said immediately. Do you remember when you hurt your knee when you fall there is two days? You had a hematoma and it wasnât too bad, was it?
-The doctor is just being mindful because the baby need more attention.â Thatâs all. Jason adds
Lian look at her parents suspiciously before looking at the doctor. Doctor Armstrong looks unsettled to have this little girl focuses on her.
âThatâs true.â She just said
Lian finally nods happily by that answer and let the nurses bring Jason to do the first test without a groan.
It was the first time Lian assist to an ultrasound and she was more impressed by the sticky substance on Jasonâs belly than the blurring picture of the baby.
âDo you know their gender? One of the nurses asks. Do you want to know?
-No thanks. We want that to be a surprise.â
Good news is the hematoma doesnât seem to grow up but the bad news is it doesnât to seem to heal either. The next weeks could bring more information.
When they come back to the room, they were surprise that they were expected.
âLittlewing! Dick exclaims. Are you and your baby alright?
-I am sorry, sirs. Doctor Armstrong said to Dick and Tim. But I donât remember that you allowed for visits.
-Thatâs alright, Doctor. Jason said surprising everyone. They can stay.
-Ok. I will let you for now. Donât hesitate call me or a nurse if you need anything.â The doctor said before leave them.
Without letting time to the adults said a world, Lian asks:
âWho are you?
-Thatâs true you were so little last time I saw you. Dick answer sadly
-I know you? Lian insist
-Well, Roy said, Dick and I were best friend when you were a baby. He was babysitting you sometimes.
-Why did I saw you no more now?
-Life happens. Dick simply answer embarrassed
-I am just Dickâs brother.â Tim said when Lian look at him
After all was clear, Lian was relaxed, even if the adults werenât, and say nothing when Dick and Tim sat on Jasonâs bed.
âSo, Dick said, how are you feeling Littlewing?
-I am fine. He answers looking insistently at Lian then at Dick, hoping he will understand they canât talk about everything with her here
-Good. Did you have anything you need? Can you bring you something?
-No, weâre good. Jason said showing his books
-Oh! Did you pursuit your studies? Dick asks when showing the titles
-Lian, sweetheart, Jason tells her, can you get me a juice, please?â
Lian pouts but when Jason insists she obeys.
âAre you sure? Roy asks
-Yeah.
-Ok.â Roy kiss Jason before exist the room with Lian, letting the three ex-Robin alone
Suddenly, Dick loses his smile and Jason doesnât hide anymore his anger at them. Only Tim stays calm.
âWhat the fuck were you think, Jason? Dick attacks immediately. You are pregnant! Why the fuck were you in this storage? You ⊠you almost lost your child! God⊠We almost lost you ⊠again ⊠Why?
-Alfred calls me ⊠What was I suppose do?
-Not come! We try contact you I donât know many time the last past month, and you never answerâŠ
-It is Lian who pick up my phone.â
Jason does not know why, but he cannot help but put himself on the defensive. Maybe he should not have let Roy go.
Dick looks at him astonished before he laughs.
âOh man, this is so absurd.
-Shut up Dickhead! Jason groans. Replacement, maybe you have something else to say?
-Stephanie want you to know that she is deeply sorry and, she hope you will agree she comes visit you when she will feel better.â
Jason feels stupid now, he didnât expect that.
âShe has nothing to apologize for. Nothing was her fault.
-And thank you. Tim adds. Without you, we couldnât have found her.
-Tim! Dick yells visibly angry
-It is true.
-What the fuck are you doing? Playing Bad cops, Good cops? You suck.
-Weâre not play. Dick grumbles. Tim should say that.
-Thatâs true. Tim argues
-Please! Just stop. Why are you here? For real.
-Pass Stephanieâs message and make sure youâre alright.
-So, are you and your baby alright?
-Well, I may lose my baby, Jason answer bitterly hopping to offend them; the doctor canât guarantee that my pregnancy will end well. And even if it did, Bruce will take my baby. So no, I am not alright. Are you happy now?â
Jason breathes loudly. He doesnât want cry in front of Tim and Dick, especially with Lian who can enter in his room at any moment.
âWhat? Of course no!
-What do you mean Bruce will take your kid?
-What do you think that will happen now that the press knows he tells to the hospital I am his son? And he didnât want deny or sign the papers.
-Which papers?â
When they hear Roy talk more loudly than necessary in front of the door, they stop the conversation immediately.
âTadam! Lian exclaims showing all the different juices in her arms
-All of that just for me? Jason said exaggeratedly excited
-Everything is alright? Roy asks while Lian nods vigorously
-Yeah. They were leaving. Jason answers without looking at them, only smiling to Lian
-Yeah, we will leave you. Dick confirms. See you soon. And donât worry Littlewing, everything will be alright, ok?
-Yeah sure. See you soon.
-For Steph, can she come see you? Tim asks
-If she doesnât have much more interesting things to do.
-Ok. See ya.
-See ya.â
When they were alone, Lian seat on Jasonâs bed and babble about all the juice she brings to him.
âYouâre the perfect daughter. Jason praises her. There is everything I love. Thank you so much, Pumpkins.â
Roy kisses lovingly Jason while Lian place the juice box on the Jasonâs shelf.
âIs everything alright? Roy asks him
-Yeah. It was just some tiring hours.
-Hey. I love you.
-I love you too.â
                          ~*~
The rest of the day was happier. All the tests making by the doctor shows that for now the baby was healthy. Lian was loving against Jason during all the during of the visit, groans to everyone who could perturb their tranquility.
They canât be sure until she will be a teenager, but she acts more and more like an alpha kid.
Roy keeps talking about how the moving was going on. Since Jason has letting some furniture and that he was paying someone to clean up once in two weeks, Roy and Lian donât have much to do.
They have still some things they have to tidy and some decoration to change so that can really feel like home.
âI took one of your safe house where there are three bedrooms. In case, we have to stay in Gotham after the birth.
-Fu ⊠Fudge I hope not.
-So, I was thinking about decorate the room for the future baby. Which color would you like?
-Purple! Lian exclaims
-Purple will be your room, Pumpkins. Roy smiles
-Purple is the best color. All the rooms should be purple. She retorts
-Maybe not all the rooms. I like my kitchen the way it is. Jason laughs
-So, for the babyâs roomâŠ
-Roy, we might not bring them at home. Jason interrupts him. You shouldnât waste your time with that.
-It wouldnât be a waste of time. Look, youâre fine. The baby is fine.
-Roy, I donât want talk about that now.
-Ok. Roy finally said despite wanting insist
-Thank you.â
Roy kisses him instead of answering him. He understands that Jason doesnât want hopping too much but Roy canât believe that they will lose their child.
He feels them move each time he puts his hands on Jasonâs belly. Thatâs can be only the proof that they are alive and want to birth. They have to be ready to welcome them in their family. The child cannot believe that they werenât wanted.
                          ~*~
Later this week, one hour later after Roy and Lian go out to eat, Oliver and Dinah arrive to visit him. Oliver pushes two caddies full of presents.
âWhat the fuck is all of that? Jason yells shocked
-I promise I tried to stop him. Dinah tries to defend herself. But there were so many cute things in the stores!â
She kisses his cheek with a big smile.
âWhen I though people think youâre here to stop me. Olivier said before puts awkwardly his hand on Jasonâs shoulder. This one is for Lian and the other for the baby.
-Oh ⊠Roy didnât tell you ⊠we may âŠ
-He told us everything. Dinah ensure him
-So why did you You may waste your money.
-Thatâs not a waste.
-Roy talks to you about the babyâs room too. Jason said narrowed his eyes. Are you here for that?
-First, weâre here for you. To know how you are feeling.
-Youâre totally here for that. Why will you arrive when Roy and Lian arenât here otherwise?
-Well, Oliver said, because of another discussion I had.
-With who?
-With Bruce. Oliver finally admit when Dinah gets away from Jasonâs bed so he doesnât feel surround
-What?
-He comes to our house. Oliver explains. He learns about the fact that I sign this paper to guarantee for you and Roy I will never do anything to take away your children. And the fact that you want him signs it too.
-I told him. Jason admits. So what? Do you agree with him? Is for that you donât want Roy here?
-God no, I donât agree with him.
-Why are you here talking about that then?
-Because Bruce come on alpha bullshit mode and he makes me promise to try change your mind. You know how he can get.â
Jason loves when an alpha recognizes that âalpha bullshit modeâ exist and use it to describe an alpha comportment. Especially Bruceâs comportment.
âSo, are you sure you donât want Bruce raise your children if an unfortunate event happen to you and Roy?
-I am positively sure.
-Cool. Good talk.
-Now that is over. Dinah exclaims. Letâs eat the cake.
-You bring a cake?
-Big enough to be sure Roy and Lian will have a piece when they will come back. So eat.
-Thatâs too is alpha bullshit. Jason said jokingly taking the spoon Dinah gives him. Try to force a pregnant omega to eat. But it is my favorite cake so I will let it pass.
-Too kind of you.â Dinah laughs
Lian was ecstatic when she saw the presents and the cake. She hugs Dinah and Oliver telling them they were the best grandparent ever.
After that Oliver ensures them that they have his support, that he will help him as much as he can with Bruce and the press.
âTalking about support, Oliver said with Lian on his knees playing with the little car that was brought to her, this room is too small and the hospital lacks of meansâŠ
-Please Oliver, no. Roy groans
-What I can say is Jason and our baby will be more comfortable if you let me pay you a better room. One with a bigger bed, a better bathroom maybe with a bathtub.
-Oh, I love that idea. Jason said. But we donât need your money neither take more place that you could be more useful for someone else.
-If I give them enough money so they can reopen an aisle, you will not take too much place.
-Ok this is too much. Jason laughs
-But not a bad idea.
-Roy!
-What? Donât you want this hospital have a new aisle?
-Why did I become the bad guy now?
-You should just accept Jaybird.â
                          ~*~
During this month, members of the hospital were nicer with Jason. Not only because of Oliverâs donation, but also because a second anonymous donation was made. Certainly Bruce. Jason doesnât know if he does that because it is the only he found to show that he cares or because he was annoyed that Oliver make a donation in his city.
The doctor Armstrong admits that she wasnât worry anymore about his babyâs health and if Jason want he could go back home. But the administrator doesnât want him go because they fear lose the donation.
Jason hesitates many days but finally decide he was safer if he stay at the hospital. The cost wasnât a problem and in case something wrong happen, the doctors and nurses could help him quickly.
The Batfamily and the Arrowfamily keep visit him. Even Bruce, at the night when he thinks Jason sleep.
Maybe Jason should admit that he was wake up, but it was easy ignore him the night and thinking about which decoration putting in the babyâs room in the day.
But when a photograph takes a nth photo of him in his hospital bed, he have to put an end to all of this.
So when Bruce enters to his room at midnight, Jason seat and said:
âThat need to stop.
-I know you tell me not come back âŠ
-But you still do it. And you dare ask me if I trust you for not taking my children.
-Jason âŠ
-No. You will shut up and listen to me. You will deny your stupid declaration about me being your son âŠ
-Youâre my son.
-No. And donât interrupt me again. You will deny your stupid declaration. And maybe, maybe I will let you saw them. But, if you stay stubborn about that, well ok I will be âyour sonâ. Then you can be sure I will sue you.
-What are you
-I will accuse you to try illegally incorporating me in your pack. Look at me; I am a poor pregnant distress omega, while youâre a rich, powerful, arrogant alpha. I will make sure the trial will never end. That the investigation has to put in the light all your secret. The medical file of all your children. The anomaly about how you use some of your companyâs benefice. If I have to I will recall that I wasnât found in the same clothes I died. I will make sure everybody remember you were the only witness of my death. You, a playboy alpha you keep adopt young boy.
-You wouldnât dare ⊠Do you imagine in which situation it will put us?
-You know what you have to do.
-I will sign the paper. You win I will sign it. Please, Jason, I want âŠ
-I donât give a fuck about what you want! I am tired of giving a fuck about what you want!â
Jason feels pitiful when he can control his tears. He doesnât want cry in front of Bruce. But he is so tired. He is always wanted his father to love him. He is always wanted to be a good son to him. But he canât be happy if he worried every time about what Bruce may think of him. He canât go forward with all the love, the bitterness he feels for Bruce. He had to let him go. He had to abandon who he was before his death. He has to focus on the family he creates with Roy.
âLet me go.â
He cries and keeps crying. He doesnât even have enough strength when Bruce hugs him to push him. He hears Bruce crying too but he keeps begs him to let him go.
âOk. Bruce finally said after a long moment. Ok. I will do what I have to do.â
For weeks he doesnât have news from Bruce. Jason informs Roy about what happen. Roy wasnât happy that Jason confronts him without him and was worried about Bruceâs reaction.
âDo you know what he will do? Roy asks him
-No. I have no idea.
-I will see him.
-Roy âŠ
-I am a big boy Jason. If you can support Ollie, I can deal with Bruce. Just focus on your studies and the baby.â
Jason laughs.
âThatâs so an alpha thing to say.â
Thatâs make Roy laughs too before they kiss.
âEverything will be alright.â
Jason doesnât know exactly what Roy and Bruce said to each other. Roy just said him that Bruce seems exhausted and that he will make a press release this Friday. Bruce just to Roy that they all get what they want.
Jason hates waiting to know what Bruce decides. Canât he tell him like any other normal human being?
Bruce Wayne was invited for the first day of the new art exposition at Gotham Museum. And if at first the question was only about the exposition, rapidly the journalists ask him about his declaration at the hospital.
Bruce inhale deeply before exhale.
âDespite the fact the topic of today is the new exposition, I will answer only once at your question. I will not repeat myself. Like you must know, I lost my second son, Jason Todd, when he was only fifteen years old. I never forget him. When a month ago, my older son, Richard Grayson, learning that the mate of his friend, Roy Harper, has difficulty during his pregnancy, I was there. When I heard an omega named Jason, who is the same age my son would be if he was alive, was distress on a hospital, I just ⊠snap. I was convinced that this omega was my second son; I wished that this omega was my second son, because ⊠I wanted to see my son grows up, happy, start a family. Roy Harper and Jason Johnson were kind enough to deal with my momentary snap despite the difficult moment they have to deal with it. By respect for them, I ask you to let them alone. Thatâs all. Thank you for your attention.â
Roy and Jason almost cry from relief. Finally, Bruce listens to what they want and take that in consideration. The press should let them alone after that. Maybe they will come back to divulge their babyâs gender but it wonât happen till three month.
The next time the doctor prints a photo from the ultrasound, Jason ask if he can have a second.
He put it on an envelope that he gives to Alfred for Bruce.
Moved by the gesture, Bruce isolates himself on his office to look at what Jason sends him. He was immediately smitten by this unborn child. By his first grandchild, he realizes even if Jason wouldnât agree that Bruce doesnât count Lian.
In the back of the photo, Jason writes his phone number with the following message:
âB,
Thank you. I know it must have been difficult for you. Youâre welcome to visit them during the day if you would like that.
Jâ
After hesitate a few hours, Bruce finally screw up oneâs courage and calls Jason.
âHey. Yeah. Alfred gives it to me. Sound like they will have your eyes.â
They both laugh awkwardly before Bruce pursuit:
âIf⊠if you still agree, I would like to ⊠Yeah, tomorrow will be good. Just ⊠Promise me that Ollie wonât be there.â
                          ~*~
Jason was almost eight month pregnant; when Scarecrow decides terrorize Gotham with a new toxin. Obviously Jason didnât help the Batfamily, but Roy did so Oliver and Dinah babysit Lian in Star City.
Jason was worried about Roy, but also about the baby. The members of the hospital were too much occupied that they could keep doing as much test to ensure his babyâs health that they used to.
Every time they bring him to the test and bring him back to his room, his bed was collide with others patients bed. It doesnât help him to reassure him.
But the panic provokes by Scarecrow pass and nothing bad happen to Roy or the baby, so Jason relax.
He was reading one of his school book while Lian coloring in her book. He will have to pass his test next week and was getting nervous. For this reason, he doesnât realize something is wrong.
He feels a sting pain in his stomach but it was almost midday, reason for tha Roy went to fetch them food.
He feels humidity in his legs but, and it was embarrassing, itâs happen that he was wetting for nothing.
He sights and raises his sheet. He freezes immediately.
There is blood. Too much blood.

Bats In The Belfry
TO: @bottomless-pit-dweller
FROM: Your Secret SantaÂ
"Who are you?" A quiet voice asks hours later, Steph drenched in sweat and fists wrapped but still aching something awful. If she weren't a bat she wold have jumped; she was a bit caught up in her head, didn't even hear the girl come in. She couldn't be Batman.
"I'm the new Batman." She answers with a resigned sigh, turning to face the girl.
"Hey Steph, can you do me a Solid?" Tim's voice started when she picked up the phone, and she groaned in frustration because that voice was the 'I'm going to ask you do do something you don't want to do' voice, but it was Tim, so it was also the 'You'll do it anyway' voice, and she just wanted A Day Off.
"What's up, Tim?" She sighed, and got gratification from the 'ah' that always accompanied that uncomfortable-guilty cringe he did. Good. If she had to deal with his bullshit, then he probably deserves the discomfort.
"So. Don't hang up-" he says, and, if Steph was stupid enough to believe Tim hadn't done something to remotely disable the Hang Up button on her phone, she definitely would have. Heck, she kinda wanted to try anyway, and he hadn't even said anything yet. "But.Um. So."
"Get to the point, Tim." Steph gritted out, and Tim heaved a sigh of his own.
"So. Dick's off planet with Duke and Babs for some peace talk." He started and yes, she already knew this, and he was clearly and blatantly stalling for time, and she didn't want to deal with this bullshit.
"Yes, Tim. I was there when Ol' Batty went over the plan. You're Batman- sorry for your luck-, Damian's Robin and training that girl from his school- that's honestly kinda cute- and Cass is flying back in to fill in for Nightwing. Cullen gets to try his spot at Oracle. Harper stays Batgirl, I stay awesome, Jason stays Redhood, and Bruce stays in bed on Alfred's orders. Seriously, Get To The Point or I'll just drop the phone and leave." she threatens, and Tim is silent long enough that she almost starts celebrating a rare bullet dodged, because whatever he's trying to ask is not gonna be good. But, Alas-
"Damian snuck onto the ship with the others. And Zeta beams as well as Communications were quickly disabled." Tim doesn't know how to blink first. Figures. She mutters a curse as she figures something else out, fingers turning white in her grip of the phone, because-
"They left a week ago, Tim. Ever think that maybe this is information you're supposed to share with the class?" She nearly growled, because she loved Tim, but he's also the absolute worst sometimes.
"I didn't want to worry anyone! We can't really do anything about it besides hope everything's fine and try to fix it from our end, and The Leauge is already working on that. I've been training Olive, and it's been a quiet week. I didn't need a Robin." He defends himself, and there's a bit to unpack and talk about there, because he must be woried out of his mind and it's bullshit that he didn't tell any of them, but there are more pressing matters.
"I'm sensing a 'But' here." she says hesitantly, reminded of Pandora and her Box.
"But," he obliges, "I'm a little...Shot, right now. Ok. Maybe a lot shot. I'm on bed rest for the foreseeable future. Bart dragged me to Titans Tower because Alfred's so busy with Bruce. I had to blackmail them into letting me have this call instead of passing out." He admits reluctantly and yeah, now that she's listening for it instead of just being angry at him for talking, she can hear his breathing and he's talking a little slow, which is the Bat Equivalent of slurring your words.
"What the hell Tim." she groans, feeling a headache start to form. Â "Seriously, spit it out. What do you want? What is this about?" She asked, anger masking worry.
"You are my last hope." he starts, and that's not good. "I swear Steph, I wouldn't ask if you weren't. I need you to be Batman."
Steph is silent. She freezes. she's clenching one fist hard enough to draw blood with her nails, and the other hard enough to crack the phone in half if it wasn't a BatPhone designed to keep sturdier then a fucking Nokia. It makes sense, given ho angry people get when talking to Bruce. After the seventh that broke being thrown against a wall and the 12 that was snapped in half and the 3rd ground into bits under someone's heel, they went through some revisions.
"Please Steph. I'll delete that blackmail from Star City, you know the one. I'll give you eternal access to whatever you want. I'll dress in drag and do the Hula. I'm actually begging here. Harper can't be Batman. Jason *laughed* at me when I asked. Cass is dead set on Nightwing, something about a bet. Kate doesn't have time to be Batwoman right now, let alone Batman. No one can get a hold of Azreal. Jim's too old, even with the mech suit. You're the only option." He rants and wow, either pain or drugs is really getting to him because he sounds almost hysteric.
"Fuck you." she snarls. "Fuck you sideways. Fuck Everyone in this god forsaken family. Fuck Damian in particular, little brat. Fuck you." She spits, because she;s a fighter and this is the best she can do. "Seriously. Fuck You. My revenge will be slow and painful, and you owe me so many things, and I'm dying the BatSuit purple out of spite. All of them. Except Cass's, because I love her. Once you heal, I'm kicking your ass." She grumbles and promises and goes on, but it all boils down to her reluctant defeat.
"Thanks Steph, yes I know I suck, you're the best, Goddess amoung Mortals, yes I know you hate me, sorry steph-" Tim indulges her rant because he's a good friend and a smart guy like that, and she only stops when he actually starts slurring words.
"Go The Fuck To Sleep, Boy Wonder." She growls and he hums a good bye and hangs up. She almost buries her head in her knees and pities herself, but instead goes to the BatCave and works through her anger with a good old fashioned punching bag.
Fuck This.
