            Lisa Lopes, Left Eye, was an American singer who is best known for being in the R&B group TLC. Lopes wrote most of their music which meant she received more credits than the other two other members in the group. She designed some of the outfits and the stage for concert performers. TLC had hit songs with ‘No Scrubs’ and ‘Waterfalls’. Lopes went solo and had a hit single with ‘Never Be the Same Again’ with Melanie C (Spice Girls).

            Lopes was born in Philadelphia, US, her father was a talented musician who played numerous instruments which inspired her musically. Her father was abusive and when her parents divorced she was brought up by her grandmother.

            In 1994, Lopes set fire to her boyfriend’s sneakers in a bathtub which destroyed the mansion they were living in.

            Lopes died aged 30 in a car accident in Roma, Jutiapa, Honduras. Lopes was driving the vehicle, she was speeding and wasn’t wearing a seat belt. She lost control of the car, when she swerved to avoid a truck and then to avoid an oncoming car. The car rolled several times before hitting a tree, Lopes was thrown out of the window to the side of the road. The four other passengers, which included her brother and sister were injured and had to be rushed to hospital, they survived. The accident was filmed from the inside of the vehicle, due to a documentary being filmed at the time.
