When finding a Sue Storm/Invisible Woman expy for the Terrifics series, why do you think Phantom Girl was chosen instead of Phantom Lady? They obviously both have similar power sets, but it just seems weird when A. Phantom Girl already has her own team in the Legion of Superheroes and B. They actually had to create a new character (Linnya Wazzo, Tinya’s ancestor) for the book.

Meanwhile, whether it be Stormy Knight or another PL, the character just remains in limbo until someone resurrects Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters for the 100th time. What do you think?

It’s an excellent question and I’m sure a matter that irked fans of Phantom Lady.

…my guess is the narrative needed a reader POV character… someone young and something of a fish out of water who could facilitate exposition to the reader.

Plastic Man, Mr. Terrific and Metamorpho have all been in the hero game a long while… not much needs explaining to them. And Phantom Lady would have been the same. Phantom Girl on the other hand was young, relatively inexperienced and new to the world the rest of the Terrifics inhabited. This set up lots of instances where matters could be explained to her and, as such, provide exposition to the reader.

Was this necessary? Could the writers work the same deal without Phantom Girl and still have Phantom Woman among the cast? I would think so. Dr. Watson was no dummy and he fit the bill fine as an expositional proxy for the Sherlock Holmes stories.

Okay, so that anon who thinks I don't read comics is going to have a field day with this, but I haven't read The Terrifics! I agree with you that it's a weird choice, but unfortunately my only knowledge/emotional investment in Phantom Lady was the period in the 90s where Grant Emerson was following one of them around like a baby bird going "Are YOU my mother?" (She was not.)
