What is the monthly roundup? Me and my writer friends get together every month and write a ficlet/oneshot surrounding a monthly prompt. It's a silly little challenge for us, and a fun chance for readers to get a sampling of a variety of different fandoms and genres.

Can I suggest a future theme? Sure! My inbox is open if you would like to suggest a theme, but keep in mind these are not requests and are meant to be open-ended and vague. Part of the fun of this challenge is seeing everyone's wildly different interpretations!

Summary: Sirius is skeptical that a family resort is where he wants to spend his first summer vacation with Harry there, but he comes to see its merits when he meets Remus and his family.

“I’zigh ‘Akshith” (War Surprise) - Ticklesivory - The Hobbit - All Media Types [Archive of Our Own] (Bilbo/Thorin, arranged marriage, amazing Worldbuilding by @tickles-ivory)

Summary: The dwarves are the most powerful army of Middle Earth. King Thorin rules all (even the elves). However, the Hobbits are stubbornly resistant to his authority, which forces him to confront them in battle. It's a victory for the dwarves that leads to the renewal of an ancient Hobbit tradition of rewarding the victor with a prize.

Summary: four years ago, remus inexplicably asked sirius for a divorce, after nearly 20 years of marriage. now, their son is graduating from college and they have to share the same space for a minute or two (or an entire weekend). enter a minor administrative misunderstanding that lands them in the same hotel room (there is, in fact, only one bed), and secrets that have been kept under wraps for yeas are bound to come out.

Summary: Remus turned back to grab the remote control again and pressed the freeze button.  Once more, his class reacted verbally, but this time in quite a different way. They were going “aww” at something and, considering how loud it was, it was probably the class in its integrity. What the fuck is up now, he thought as he turned around.

Looking right back at him from the projection screen was Sirius. Or, in this case, a much younger version of Sirius struggling a bit to keep one arm around the shoulders of a much younger version of Remus himself. The photo had been taken by Lily when they were sixteen, just fresh into their relationship. He remembered how light he felt back then. That was the main reason he scanned the old photo and used it as wallpaper on his laptop. A very personal wallpaper on his very personal laptop, and that was on display for a crowded auditorium. Shit.

Summary: Jaskier is heartbroken after Caingorn moutain. he stumbles down, tears in his eyes when he does something neither he, Geralt nor Roach would ever expect him too.

Tuck you in one last time (Canonical Character Death, Balin Centirc, based off this tumblr post my dearest @lisellelascelles shared)

Summary: Balin stood there with a blanket ready to cover the young princes faces, ready to send them off to their ancestors with a heart full of grief.

Whiskey Lullaby (Sirius/Remus, James/Lily, please read the tags on this one, its MCD x2 and lots of giref, based off the song Whiskey Lullaby by Brad Paisley)

Summary: James sees a picture he has hidden away for much to long. A picture of his lost brother and his partner. A picture of the only family he had before they left him.

I’m going to try to start doing a monthly(ish) roundup of fics I’ve read and enjoyed. Some of these are a bit older than February since this is the first time I’m doing it, but subsequent lists will probably be a lot shorter. Buffyverse- Giles Gas Ring Alchemy - this is my favorite Rupert/Ethan story, it is such a cute meeting between them without one or the other feeling like a corrupting influence. The author has many other Buffyverse stories and so far I’ve loved all I’ve read by them. thoughtless - Ripper/Ethan by @dictionarywrites. Less on the sweet side, but among the steamiest, tension-filled encounters I’ve read. Roots - alternating between two time periods and two POVs, one when young Rupert/Ripper comes home after Randall’s death, and one when older Giles comes home after Buffy’s death and resurrection. This Isn’t a Kingdom - Wishverse AU with Jenny and Giles fighting the forces of darkness without a Slayer to help them. Really organic evolution of their relationship from bitter coworkers to being in love. Honestly I tried to pick a favorite but everything calendiles I’ve read from @jenny-calendar is just delightful so go forth! Buffyverse- others shadow of the day - a work in progress by @daisys-quake, a canon divergence where Faith wakes up from her coma in early season 4 and how her relationship with Buffy heals afterward. First Love - a season 7 fic by @mrsgordo84 where the First presents itself as Angel to Buffy. Never Over - a lovely series of vignettes by @gracenm exploring Buffy/Angel moments from season 3. I love this season so much and there are so many dynamics to dig deeper into with scenes we were missing in canon. Some Say in Ice - this may honestly be my favorite Buffyverse fic I’ve read so far. Post Angel finale, Angel finds himself in a world where he is with Buffy and his friends are still alive- but at what cost? Deaths Like Mine by @thewigginsfanfic - technically calendiles but it’s all from Jenny’s POV post-Passion so I’m putting it with the others. After her death, Jenny is chosen to become a reaper. I never watched Dead Like Me but that didn’t stop me from enjoying this bittersweet crossover. Non-Buffyverse I haven’t read these in ages but I can’t do my first fic rec list here and not include them. I want to get back into HP fic in particular but the to-read list is neverending! The Shoebox Project - As far as I’m concerned this is The Marauders Prequel, anything JKR releases at this point would be wrong. Slow burns for Remus/Sirius and James/Lily. It has to be downloaded in pdf because it is multimedia but I promise it’s worth it! Stealing Harry - AU where Sirius never went to Azkaban. He and Remus discover how Harry is being treated by the Dursleys and decide to raise him themselves.

October Roundup

So I thought I’d try and do a little monthly roundup of what I’ve been up to, writing-wise. Mostly for me, so I can actually see what I’ve achieved, you know how it is, you look back and think you’ve done bugger all until you count it all up! If you’re interested, all the better ^_^

Wicked Boys - This is my Fantastic Beasts x Harry Potter crossover fic which I’m slightly obsessed with at the moment. Typical. Just as NaNoWriMo starts, so I’ll have to put it to one side for a whole month! I’ve filled up an entire A5 notebook with the first draft of this story, and another one’s following hard on its heels. I really need to remember that most of my stories these days turn into epics, and I should only write in massive notebooks! At the mo, I’m on chapter 19 of 25, and Grindelgraves might be about to make an appearance...

Zero Degrees - I’ve also been planning and researching this original novel which is weirdly based on a FrostIron fic called Hidden Within, which I’m currently uploading onto AO3. It’s changed from its original form in a MASSIVE way though, and it’s going to be my NaNo this year! The premise is - what if the god of Winter got fed up with being the bad guy in all the myths and took his faeries to go hide in Kenya? Because who’d think of looking for a Winter god at the Equator? It’s written from the point of view of a young girl who gets a crush on one of the young faeries and gets horribly entangled in their drama. I’m excited and terrified about this, to be honest! Mostly excited because I get to write about my beloved country!

New Ideas - SOMEONE got me into reading Drarry fics. May I just, bitterly, say that that’s the worst ship name in the history of ship names? From a fandom that brought us the beauty of WolfStar? Come on, people! However because of this new obsession, I’ve now got 2 stories fully planned out, and they’re gonna be biggies. Well, one might come out around 40k (Blood Protection), while the other has the potential to NEVER BLOODY END (Lily’s Eyes). Also I’ve just received my prompt from the @drarryexchange so I’m already drifting along that road. I feel like there’s a great story just hovering under the surface of my mind and I’ve got to let it come to me, like some sort of wild animal...

The Willing - I wrote quite a bit on this earlier this month, but a lot of research on epilepsy had to happen...for a character who I knew wouldn’t be diagnosed with epilepsy. Sigh. I had to make it LOOK like he might have it, so hence learning about EEG, post-ictal confusion, encephalitis and oxygen deprivation during a tonic-clonic seizure. I might even have cornered a paramedic in McDonalds one day just to interrogate her...I’m really sorry, love, you looked so tired - I hope I kept it short enough and gave you a story to laugh about! I’m stuck on chapter 7 of 15 because I can’t quite figure out how the best friend is going to react to the MC yelling at her just before his fit...

Hallows - Ooh! That’s completely done, I just uploaded the last chapter yesterday ^_^ Yay!

Stop Me in Hours of Darkness - This is just a plotted out idea, to join the legion of other plotted out ideas, but I’m still excited about it. It’s about two teenage boys dealing with the abuse they’ve survived together. Ravi’s very protective about James, who’s new and still bogged down in his abusive situation. They have this very tactile queer-platonic relationship going on which everyone outside of their group finds very strange, but their friends, including Ravi’s girlfriend, find perfectly normal because James needs protection and cuddles, and Ravi, who’s a bit of a rudeboi and hard as hell, is not going to get teased for giving them! Also...the title. I don’t even know, OK? I saw it somewhere completely incongruous, it stuck in my head, it’s hanging out for a while, OK?

Other stuff - I seem to have abandoned Not Broken for a while :( it’s not the end! I still know exactly what’s going to happen when Rose and Max get together and Rose gives birth to someone else’s baby and has to prove that just because she has ovaries doesn’t mean she’s going to get attached to the kid (she’s sort of a surrogate...it’s complicated!) There are also 2 Merlin stories and 4 other original stories that are completely planned, I just...haven’t got round to writing them yet. And I really REALLY want to. It’s quite sad, but I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to write fast enough to keep up with my muse. On the plus side, if my muse ever goes on holiday, I’ll have plenty to keep me busy until it comes back, with all that backlog lol!

Winter Quarter Goals 2018

This is my last 2017 post here, folks! Are you as excited as I am? Prooobably not, ha ha. Anyway, you know what that means. It's time to close out fall quarter and prepare for Winter 2018.

So, I ended up giving myself partial credit on a bunch of these, voided one out entirely, and still managed to get a failing grade. Again. Come on Bonnie, time to do better! But for now, behold my failure!

Number one! Redo my website. I think I spent a few hours trying to fix the menu to look like what I wanted it to, failed, and gave up. But there was an effort, so quarter point.

Number two was to standardize my author bios. I got about as far as writing them down for reference. Quarter point.

Three was pretty impossible between two different jobs, NaNoWriMo, and no sleep. Figuring out a work schedule and keeping to it. But while I didn't get much of that done, I did keep up with my monthly roundup posts. Another quarter point.

I actually made good progress on number four: organize my room and prepare for filming. It still needs a lot of progress, but it's getting there. Half point!

Number five: three short stories. Nope, nada, zilch. No point.

Six! Reach halfway point on Heart Returned draft. Ha ha, I didn't even touch it. (Weep.) No point.

For seven, no one sent me any questions, so I voided it out, scoring myself out of a nine instead.

Eight was to organize my notebooks and find the outline to Spare Change's sequel. Which... I did! Found the outline, that is. Notebooks are still pretty disorganized. Half point.

Number nine was to update my fanfiction three times. Well, I got two updates so two-thirds of a point.

And number ten was to win at NaNoWriMo. I only write 30k out of the 50k goal, so took three-fifths of a point.

So, in total, even out of only nine, a failing grade. Meh. But it'll be a new year soon and that means new goals!

A couple of my 2018 winter goals will be carry-over from last quarter since they still need done, so I'll quickly zoom through those first. Organizing my notebooks, redo my website, standardize my bios, and get to that work schedule (since I finally have a proper job-work one!) I'm also adding the Q&A blog as a possible bonus point if I get questions sent in.

For new goals, I have five more. Number one is to write every day, at least five hundred words. I'm not treating this like NaNo with a total goal, so no making up for missed days OR getting behind. Either I do it or don't.

Number two is to release at least one thing every month. Short story, essay, fic chapter, or Lily story. Something has to be published.

For number three, I want to grow my platform through regular posting. So if you guys reblog things you like, I will love you forever. Also! If there are things you want to see more of, or at all, send me a note!

Number four is a pricey one. I want to buy myself a ten-pack of ISBN numbers. And those run at $300 on Bowker. Ouch. Still, cheaper than one by one.

And finally, five is to finish one fanfiction entirely. I have one just a chapter or two away, so I had better get this one done!

So that's my goals for going into Winter 2018. Hopefully, my pretty new bullet journal trackers (and regular shifts) will help me out this year. It's been quite the ride, and not always a fun one, but hope springs eternal that next year will bring good things. To me, my writing, and to you, my dear readers.

Weekly Roundup: 10th March - 16th March

He tried not to let himself think about how bonding with all these children would make it hurt so much more if anything happened to one of them. Children were almost never the targets in Death Eater attacks. But there had been enough times when entire families had been wiped out…

He wasn’t allowed to think about that. He’d go mad.

They were going to win. They would stop Voldemort. They were closer than ever now, thanks to Regulus showing up with his mad story.

But he remembers Harry's face contorted in fury and Remus' eyes flooding with pain. He shifts into Padfoot and runs, set on finding them and making things right.

Remus lost Sirius once. He should know how to do this.

But just like that first time, the wolf in his head refuses to believe Padfoot is gone.

The Weasleys all ready knew and accepted Viktor with open arms, but Viktor's friends and parents have decided that Percy isn't fgood enough for Viktor.

Viktor very clearly disagrees and tells them so.

You are the only reason I survived living without him (PAst Bilbo/Thorin, Bilbo & Frodo, this one is ALL @shipper47's fualt and they know it lol)

Summary: Bilbo is finally leaving the Shire. 60 years after he lost his One and only love, he is going to go bakc adn say goodbye to his tomb.

Before that though, there is Frodo Baggins, the best psuedo son a hobbit could ever hav,e and the only reason Bilbo managed to keep his courage and keep himself alive so he could maybe see Thorin again when his time in Arda was thorugh.

Summary: Remus Lupin owns a bookstore, and right next to him, his best friend Lily owns a sweet store, and then randomly one day, a cute man named Sirius, behind the cash register at the sweet store, makes his heart flutter, and Remus would fall utterly head over heels for that man, even if he is dating someone named Prongs.

Creatures of the Night - DomesticGoddess - The Hobbit - All Media Types (Bilbo/Thorin, as those of us in the hobbit fandom know DomesticGodess is AMAZING and this is one of my favs!)

Summary: Bilbo stays in his tower, alone and so hidden away that even most of his own coven don’t know he’s there, condemned to live out his days in solitary confinement for no other reason than that he exists. He yearns for freedom, for the world outside his small window and for something else that seems to tug at his very soul. Resigned to his fate, he consoles himself with dreams of freedom and flight, until one day he is found by the most unlikely trespassers. Jumping at the offer of freedom, he faces his fears and the unknown as he ventures out to discover the world outside his window and maybe a place he finally belongs in the process.

Captured Hearts - morgana_fire - The Hobbit - All Media Types (Bilbo/Thorin)

Summary: Bilbo Baggins is born an Omega male, able to bare children. With his clan desperate for a home and food they make a bargin with a Lord who will provide for them if Bilbo gives him a child. Just before they are to comsumate the union the Lord dies. Lobelia comes up with a plan that will either save them or ruin them. A naked dwarf is tied to the bed in front of him and Bilbo is expected to...to...oh sweet Yavanna.

Stop me Fading (Bilbo/Thorin)

Summary: It is a few weeks after the battle, Thorin, Fili and Kili are still in danger from their wounds.

Bilbo has been shunned by all, including the Company, as such there is a sad, lonely, hobbit wandering around the camps, trying to help everyone but himself.

I see the gold, it looks like you (Bilbo/Thorin, MCD. I also want to point out this is all @shipper47's fault! / j)

Summary: Thorin is still gold mad, and he is still angry at Bilbo.

He has to find a way to keep his hobbit safe by his side, but also make sure he can never betray him again.

Losing a family but gaining a pod (Bilbo/Thorin animal au, for my dearest @lisellelascelles's very belated Birthday!)

Summary: Thorin is one of the few adult belluga's in his pod who is unmated. he wants to spread his fins and explore, hopefully finidng one.

He swims upon a sad and heartbroken Bilbo Baggins, a lonely little narwhal. His heart calls for him to care for Bilbo and that is what he will do.

Fated Footsteps (Percy/Viktor, please mind the tags Written for the @baby-bumps-broomsticks' Bingo)

Summary: Percy can't remember what happened, but he knows something did. Something that makes him sick to his stomach, especially now his stomach is expanding beyond the norm.

Well, not just any of the siren's songs, the golden haired male had captivated him unexpectedly.

Summary: Geralt has been cursed into the form of an actual white wolf.

The bandits who cursed him pllace him in a cage with Jaskier, waiting for him to rip his love apart ...

Summary: Dwalin watched as Dis left him. As he was left alone in a world that had no place for him.

Summary: Frodo is missing and Bilbo must go and fetch him, whilst he does that, the King under the mountain is going to get a suprise during open council.

Summary: Thorin has been unconcious for weeks after BOFTA.

His healer is not Oin and he doesnt understand why. He doesnt understand anything until his husband walks into the tent.

A Home, A Pack, A Place of Love (Bilbo/Thorin, this is another Aimal Au, and also a very, very, very belated birthday fic, sorry about the extended wait @mithrilhearts <3)

Summary: Bilbo is a corgi and he has become the guardian of a traumatised little corgi pup. He has to leave their cosy home and hope for the best. For him and Frodo.

Hopefully he will find a new place to call home, a new family for him and Frodo, hopefully they will thirve.

Summary: Geralt and Jaaskier came into the maze for some peace, which Geralt would get if Jaskier ever shut up.

Well, serves Geralt right if they are just walking in circles, he should have listened to his bard!

Summary: Jaskier is half siren and sometimes his instincts decided things are a threat when they arent. Sadly, its usually Geralt who sets thee insticts off, in the middle of a wichers keep, in the dead of winter.

What could possibly go wrong?

And finally After Miles of Marching, My Heart for a Pebble (Bilbo/Thorin, another animal Au, because PENGUINS!!!)

Summary: The Emperor Penguins have to find a new home, one where the ice wont melt beneath their feet and kill their chicks.

There is no other choice, no other hope, but to migrate, to march to a place where they can be safe.

Maybe their safe harbour also involves a nosy little Adelaide penguin who is instantly taken by the large, caring Emperor penguin who marched into his territory and his heart.

Weekly Roundup: 17th Februaury - 23rd February

Well look at me behind again, suprise suprise 🙈

This was a much better week in terms of writing so thats at least something. I managed 9,251 of my 15,000 weekly word count. Which means I am at 17,445 of my 60,000 monthly word goal (yikes)

I wrote 4 fics this week, but as always, recs first.

Summary: Technically it was kidnapping. Sure, they were in the wrong legally but when had they ever cared about legality? Morally they were clear and that was what actually mattered.

Remus Lupin falls hopelessly and helplessly in love with Sirius Black, wins a war, kidnaps a child and starts a family (and then kidnaps another kid, but who's keeping track?).

Summary: Jaskier is captured by Nilfgaard and tortured for information about Geralt an Ciri, the twist though, is that Ciri has been arrested for stealing and is in the cell next to his. Nilfgaard is none the wiser and Jaskier has to make sure that his mouth remains shut during the interrogations. Will he succed or will he break?

One thing leads to another, and suddenly there's a family wedding.

Summary: Captured and chained by his mate’s father, Geralt is forced to sit and watch as Alfred Pankratz, King of Redania, calls for his daughter’s head. Unable to act, Geralt must pray for a miracle to save the day.

What he hadn’t been expecting, was to know the miracle’s name.

Moony’s Magical and Muggle Masterclass (Sirius/Remus, James/Regulus, Lily/Mary, part of my The Mismatched Family of Harry Potter Series)

Summary: An argument over the purebloods inherent biases becomes a conversation about Remus becoming Harry's new teacher.

Skegness and all it's germs (part of the same series as above with the same pairings)

Summary: Harry travels on the train with Regulus and Sirius to Skegness. he's going to the beach and he is going to ride a donkey. Much to Regulus' annoyance.

My Heart Lies With You (Bilbo/Thorin, canonical character death, part of my Dwarrow-tober Series)

Summary: Thorin is dead, and along with him every hope and dream Bilbo had for the future died too.

He may not be a Durin, but he loved liked one, and Durin's endure, so one heartbroken hobbit must too for the rest of his days.
