Gon's arms being injured in every arc may have more significance than I thought.
While I'm confident everybody in the fandom has noticed this by now, I've never seen it dug into more deeply than just acknowledging it at its face value. So I started to really think about it.
First and foremost, whenever Gon loses/hurts one of his arms, it conveys courage, bravery, and selflessness.
Gon's arm is broken in the Hunter Exam because he refuses to forfeit his match with Hanzo. He wants a fair fight, and he's not giving up until he gets what he wants, even if it literally costs him an arm (haha) and a leg (hahaha.)
(also consider when gon breaks illumis hand to show har far he's willing to go when it comes to protecting and defending killua, even if illumi is way way way way wayyyy stronger than him)
In Heavens Arena, Gon's arm is broken while he participates in a nen battle knowing one singular form of nen. He fought, knowing he would lose, just for the sake of getting stronger.
In Yorknew, his arm is almost broken by Feitan after (somehow) having the courage to tell a Phantom Troupe member straight to his face that he's a hypocritical piece of shit murderer. (Like wow)
Greed Island is a fantastic example! Gon willingly lets his hands get BLOWN OFF for the sake of having an advantage in a fight he practically stood no chance in.
Then the Chimera Ant Arc where Killua can just barely save Gon in time. Where Gon makes the tragic connection that in the long run, he could be just like Kite while sacrificing his life to avenge him.
Yes yes, in every instance Gon injuring his arms is to convey how courageous he is.
While yes, it does show bravery, it also shows how little Gon cares about the effects of getting closer to meeting Ging has on his body.
Injuries, pain, are nothing to Gon because he won't let it be. Gon has this mindset of being so so so much weaker than he really is. He says it himself.
"I must be the weakest hunter ever!"
While comparing himself to everyone he's met on his journey.
But if Gon is weak, there's no way he's ever going to be a successful Hunter, ever going to meet Ging or be even slightly close enough to being respected by him.
So while Gon (with the help of nobody, NOBODY (please guys, Killua hardly ever sings his praises aloud,)) naturally, can't help his low self-esteem, He can dismiss whatever happens to him like some kind of freak of nature, never dwelling on anything for too long.
The one thing Gon can control is how he responds to disrespect or harm when it comes to himself.
So... If gon just so happens to lose an arm at least annually, it's not that big of a deal for him
OK, that's all, share your thoughts, I was gonna put more but I want to go watch Greed Island. so toodleloo for now.

Orpheus and Eurydice and how they inspired Killugon.
this is just speculation on my part, but since it’s pretty well known that togashi uses myths and legends within his work, it’s pretty plausible.
not going to give too many details cuz i know y’all are only here for killugon so here we go
Tumblr media
Apollo in this situation would be Ging, obviously, and the lyre represents becoming a hunter. Gon is Orpheus. Gon falls in love with Killua during the hunter exam, (just like i thought) and then…
Tumblr media
Illumi comes (Hymen.) He says assassins aren’t meant to be friends and says eventually, Killua will end up killing Gon.
Tumblr media
I think “dancing with Nymphs” could refer to Killua going along with the zoldycks ways of life, like killing people, even though he does not belong. Killua does not DIE, but I think the death could represent returning back to his house that’s full of death, or his spirit breaking. (especially after his first taste of real true friendship and love)
Tumblr media
Gon DEFINITELY makes it clear thru the zoldyck family arc that he wishes he was there for killua, how he wants him back at his side. He makes it clear to everybody, it’s why Leorio and Kurapika were so willing to go along with him.
Tumblr media
Isn’t the testing gate LITERALLY referred to as “the gate to hades?” There is a clear connection there. Gon arrives at the zoldycks manor and manages to move every single employee he meets, like canary, zebro, and gotoh. (Ghosts and souls of people unknown.) I dont think this is in the manga, but I remember that in the 1999 version, Gon befriends Mike (Cerberus.)
Tumblr media
While I think Hades should represent Silva, I think it expresses Gotoh’s feelings more. Gon proves himself through the coin game, and Gotoh allows Killua to return to Gon.
The rest of the story ends up with Eurydice dying, but I think this part of the story is more metaphorical than anything.
Killua following Gon, and him not being able to turn around and meet Killua’s eyes. It’s a common theme within Hxh.
shoutout to strawberrylianlian on tiktok for pointing this out to me, i think this is a really cute myth and really conveys just how IN LVOE gon is with killua. Amen

i think we as a fandom should talk about this scene more
Tumblr media
i believe that this is the first time that gon really gets a glimpse into just how much killua cares for him. all of killuas previous affections have been either while gon’s away or purposely hidden from him by killua himself…
so, gons reaction here is something that really REALLY GETS ME.
He’s shocked! he’s so surprised! killua has NEVER acted like this before, always calm and collected.
what does this say about what gon believes he is to killua? we, the audience, obviously know that killua holds gon on the highest pedestal, light itself yadda yadda. but gon? gon has NO clue that killua thinks all of that! from gon’s point of view, killua is just his bestie that tags along, nothing more. i don’t think gon believes he means a lot to killua, i don’t think he knows he means a lot to anyone, besides aunt mito, maybe.
after this fact, gon can’t get it off of his mind! he’s worried about killua, if he’s okay, that’s how ABNORMAL killua CARING is to him.
you could even draw that into the insult chapter, why gon reacts the way he does, why he truly believes killua DOES NOT care about kite.
their miscommunications get me EVERYTIME.
also: since killua has always gone to great lengths to hide his fierce protectiveness over gon, he must have been SO damn stressed while entering ngl!! killua letting lose like this is rare (well, in later chapters we get his BREAKDOWNS and shit, but he would NEVER do that in front of gon.)
i do believe that killua wanted to act alone simply on the fact that A. he wants to protect gon B. because it’s simply easier for him to work alone.
i think reason B is less likely because killua KNEW he would bump into soldier ants eventually. we know that killugon working together can make quick work of soldier ants. they work perfectly in sync.
however i think gon’s response is what affected their relationship the most.
Tumblr media
nothing.
he does not promise killua that he won’t help people he sees dying. killua most likely just views this as just Gon being Gon, goodness and all.
however, since this is the first time killua has expressed concern for gon TO gon, and he is immediately shot down and ignored, his fear to open up in later chapters makes complete sense.
Gon does not get another word out about it besides his “Killua…” (gay asf if you ask me.) While gon is worried about the citizens, he’s worried about killua more.
also: the next time gon hears from killua is when killua calls him after being MISSING for a while, we don’t hear a lot about it, but you’ve all seen how Gon reacts once killua finally calls him.
he was SO worried!! and this ontop of killua being potentially hurt or dead, guilt must have been eating Gon alive. i imagine he wouldn’t want their last conversation to be an argument.
anyway: they make me sick, i think about this a lot.
