I will follow you anywhere. I'll run a never-ending race for you. Name the distance. I'll go at whatever speed you let me. I'll sprint, walk, or crawl to get to you. I will never give you up.

Every book I read in 2024: Untainted by Lilian T. James
"You could never be invisible, little star. You burn too bright. Sulian may seek to hide you away, to steal your future and crush your spirit, but even he could not hope to smother the intensity of your fire. You are more than the pretty trophy he wants you to be."

15 Romance Books with the Found Family Trope
Whether it’s a friend group that started to feel like family, a grumpy hero finding love with a single mom, an unexpected guardian, or a welcoming small town community, the found family trope can be utilized in romance novels in a variety of ways. It’s generally a heartwarming trope with warm and fuzzy vibes, making the reader smile at that feeling of inclusion and love. Though the journey to get…

Event: Magical Menagerie Gift Exchange 2024
Main ship: Sirius Black x Severus Snape
Side ships: Bellatrix x Lily | James x Narcissa
Rating: T+
Word count: 8,995 (complete)
Tags: Fantasy AU, Magic Systems, Fluff, Romcom, Rivals to Lovers, Magical Items
Gift to: @fiendishfyre
Summary: Every year eager apprentices and their renowned masters gather at the Hogsmeade Yuletide Fair in order to showcase their advancements to the people of the land. So, it should come to no one’s surprise—really—that one Sirius Black would find this to be the perfect opportunity to test out his latest creation. Nor should anyone be shocked—at all—that Severus Snape ends up having a terrible day.
Notes: This was my first time ever writing for this ship and I hope I’ve done them justice, both Severus and Sirius are amongst my favorites so I have a ton of love for them ❤️💚 to get into their mood/dynamic I completely immersed myself in the stunning starprince artwork from incredibly talented artist @intotheswollenriver (I swear this artist is the backbone of this ship) 😮‍💨🪭

Excerpt below
Because Severus’ life is anything but uncomplicated, it doesn’t take longer than seven minutes once they set foot in Hogsmeade for their group to cross paths with the miscreant apprentices of Dumbledore.
A stupid grin breaks on James Potter’s face as he notices their group—more specifically, Lily.
Sirius Black, as always, is smirking in that infuriating way of his. Long black hair, that rivals Bellatrix’s, tied up in a ponytail.
Much to Severus’ chagrin, he stands three inches taller than him. With impeccable robes and boots, as one would expect of any member of House Black.
His smirk grows as he notices Severus staring.
“There’s a painter next to our booth, we can commission him a portrait of me if you want, Snivelus.” Red, it’s red all over his vision. “But I gotta tell you, I’m a bit of a jealous type, dunno how I feel about sharing a spot above your bed next to your Riddle love-notes.”
If Severus is not careful, he’ll break his project with how hard he’s squeezing the ceramic shaker in his hands.
“Stop being mean, Sirius.” It’s Bellatrix who answers, and the shift in the other Black is immediate, his smirk transforming into a more genuine smile. “Also, Severus doesn’t have any love-notes written about our master hanging above his bedding, that’s just ridiculous.”
Black laughs and raises his hands in defeat.
Before the cousins can say anymore, Potter opens his big mouth.
“Hey Lily! Looking lovely as always, I love that, what’s that? Er—snake and flower embroidery on your robes.” Daft as he is, he doesn’t seem to notice how the temperature seems to drop even lower than what it already is.
“Thank you, James.” Lily’s smile is friendly, but polite. “I made it myself.” And the boy obviously misses how the same exact pattern—a snake wrapped around a lily flower—is also embroidered to Bellatrix’s black robes.
“That’s so amazing, you’re amazing—” Potter laughs. “What are you up to anyway? Would you like to—”
A few things happen simultaneously.
Black sighs like someone who’s about to witness something he doesn’t want to and Bellatrix steps in front of Lily, blocking Potter’s view. A smile that doesn’t even pretend to be anything but predatory widens in her striking face.
“Oh, hello James, it’s lovely to see you.” And she continues speaking over his confused ‘Hey… Bellatrix,’ “Did you hear the news? Apparently Lucius wants to court my sister, and as a matter of fact I think he just told us he was taking her on a walk, isn’t that right, Lilian?” Bellatrix doesn’t look back at Lily, whose green eyes widen for just a second before she slowly nods.
“Yes, Bella, to the rose garden with the mistletoe canopy.” The color drains from James Potter’s face.
“What,” he says dumbly.
“Oh yes, and you know how Cissy is, ever so the dutiful daughter,” Severus mentally scoffs, if there’s something Narcissa isn’t, it’s dutiful. But of all the Black children, she’s the only one who’s got Bellatrix fooled.
Narcissa plays her part perfectly, but at the end of the day she does whatever she wants.
“She would never say no to Lucius… you know there’s been talk about their marriage since they were babies,” she continues. “Just the other day Nicola was telling my mother how she couldn’t wait for more blonde haired Malfoy children to run around the Manor.”
Women are devious creatures, thinks Severus as he watches James Potter, with all color drained from him, sprint away from their group.
Lucius is secretive, but it’s hard to keep a big secret in Master Riddle’s workshop. They all know Malfoy’s been meeting with Evan’s cousin, Pandora, since the summer solstice.
And Severus knows Narcissa enjoys giving Potter a hard time. She told him once, “He’s young, he needs to get his impatience out of his system before I give him a third of my attention—Potter gets bored, only boys get bored,” with a small smirk.
Women.
“Sirius.” The eldest Black says in a warning tone.
“Bellatrix.” He responds nonchalantly.
“I told you that you should be more discerning of your company.”
“James is a great guy, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
And before her temper starts acting up, Black pulls his cousin into a hug and kisses her cheek sweetly. The elder girl nearly disappears as she’s engulfed by his brutish form.
She’s soon laughing and chastising him, but with no bite.
There’s a total of five people who can handle Bellatrix without her being aware of it: Master Riddle, her grandfather, Sirius, Narcissa and Lily.
Severus sometimes wonders what would happen if she were to ever become aware of it.
“So, where’s Reggie?” Asks Black as he herds his cousin to a slow-paced walk. His long arm hung over her shoulder. To anyone walking, they could pass off as twins.
It’s the small weight of Lily’s hand on his forearm that stops him from silently slipping away from the nightmare-ish company.
“Let’s go, Sev?” Lily’s green eyes are kind, her freckles less pronounced with the colder season.

Snarry-a-Thon 2018
Snarry-a-Thon is an annual fest of Snarry goodness that always brings so much creativity and joy in the Snarry community. I am forever blown away by how much talent and passion Snarry-lovers have. With that in mind, I wanted to create some special recs for a fest near and dear to my heart.
With that, here are my Top 5 picks for the 2018 fest! But first...
Disclaimer: my rec lists are created based on my personal experiences and preferences. There are plenty of other stories and authors who are quite good and deserve just as much love. This is not meant to be an objective “best of the best” list, but the subjective opinion of a longtime reader and fangirl.

Worth Watching
by accioslash. Rated: E. Words: 3,784. Muggle AU. Drunk sex. Established relationship.
One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it's worth watching.
Grim
by Acid (@ac1d6urn). Rated: E. Words: 17,240. Spinner's End. Grief/Mourning. Romance. Hurt/comfort.
After the war, the house on Spinner's End is a shelter, but not a home. Then Snape lets in a pair of strays.
Surfacing
by avioleta (@avioleta). Rated: E. Words: 24,861. Panic attacks. PTSD. Student/teacher. Hogwarts 8th year. First time.
Harry’s back at Hogwarts. Severus is back in the Potions Lab and everyone is just trying to find some semblance of normal after the war. Prompt #113: Old school 8th year fic.
Little Monkeys
by Lilian. Rated: T. Words: 15,756. Past character death. Grief/mourning. Children.
"There might be a chance that maybe, perhaps, Severus went too far this whole ‘exile far away from the Wizarding World’ thing. Because however he tries to frame it, it comes down to this: after nine years of being completely alone, the first time he stays with another person, he’s plotting to steal said person’s children."
Afloat (on a Sea of Love)
by suitesamba (@suitesamba). Rated: G. Words: 8,334. Humor. Old men in love.
In their autumn years, Harry and Severus finally find each other and, though Harry’s kids object, decide to take a cruise to celebrate their budding relationship. Back home, Lily, Al and James have ample time to discuss just exactly why they object to Severus as they sit through a Hogwarts Quidditch game. When their old headmistress Minerva McGonagall joins them in the stands, she opens their eyes about their dad and Severus. Featuring old men in love (and in Speedos), a Quidditch game that will not end, Minerva the match-maker, and a seven-year old wedding planner.

books I read in 2023
I read 240 books in 2023, which is lower than my total books read than the past few years. But it'd be ridiculous to be bothered by it because, hey, I still read 240 books!
I set myself a goal of trying to read more out of my comfort zone this year. I wanted to read 30 non-romance books, 25 physical books, and 10 non-fiction books. By the end of the year, I'd read a total of 54 non-romance books, 62 physical books, and 27 non-fiction books. I'm hoping to continue in this vein in 2024.
Other stats - for fun -
My most-read author was Cassie Mint
I gave out 32 5* ratings
My most-read genre was (of course) romance, 120 of which were contemporary
I owned most of the books I read
I read the most books in June, with 34 books read, followed by August, with 25 books read
My most read trope was forced proximity, followed by hate-to-love
So, below is a list of the books I read this year. Rereads are italicised, favourite reads are in bold.

Snarry Soulmates (Rec List)
Snarry = soulmates.
No, really! See? I have proof!
i.e. here, have a collection of fics where Snarry are, in fact, soulmates. (Which is basically canon, but y'know, whatever.) (Some people need convincing, you know?)

Corresponding Shapes
by bleedcolor (@bleedcolor.) Rated T. 5k. Soulmarks. Soul bond.
For a very long time he hadn’t known what the names meant. He’d woken up the morning of his 7th birthday and there they were; red as blood, one more thing to brand him as a freak in the eyes of his aunt and uncle.
Red Strings
by emeraldlove (@givereadersahug.) Rated T. 6k. Red string of fate.
Their magic is vibrantly red and brilliant. She just not sure what to make of Harry Potter and Professor Snape being soulmates and what it means for the wizarding world. Outsider POV.
Waiting to Divide
by emynn. Rated E. 22k. Soul bond. Time travel. Podfic available (by JocundaSykes.)
Harry always thought soul mates were the domain of overly-soppy romantics. What he didn't realise was that they were very real, very dangerous, and very inconvenient...especially when your soul mate is the very dead Severus Snape. Fortunately, with the help of his friends and a Time Portal, he's able to get past that pesky obstacle...and finds his life completely changed.
The Space Between Failing and Falling
by JocundaSykes. Rated E. 45k. Soulmarks. Podfic available.
A very long time ago, Severus resigned himself to the reality that he doesn’t have a soulmate after all. He’s finally a real Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and his life is perfectly tolerable, thank you very much.
However, at the age of thirty-nine, it seems his soulmate has come of age. He will ignore this new development and carry on as he always has.
World Enough, and Time
by Likelightinglass (@likelightinglass.) Rated T. 6k. Soulmarks. Angst with a happy ending.
Soulmate clocks start ticking when you first lock eyes, and count down until your time with them is over. Harry’s starts ticking on September 1st, 1991. He has only six years, eight months, and one day.
Advanced Lunacy
by Lilian. Rated M. 6k. Soulmarks. Dreamsharing.
Luna accidentally discovers something, and now the whole Wizarding World is abuzz about it. Meanwhile, Snape keeps appearing in Harry's dreams frequently.
Finders Keepers
by Lilian. Rated T. 7k.
Soulmate AU from tumblr @the-rotten-prince: Imagine whenever you lose something, your soulmate winds up finding it.
Severus Snape doesn't find a single thing until he's twenty. By that time, he has given up and ignores a young boy, when he arrives at Hogwarts.
Soulmate Flowers
by Lilian. Rated G. 4k. Soulmarks. Podfic available (by JodcundaSykes.) Also read Bloom (inspired work by hippocrates460; E, 1k.)
Whenever your soulmate touches you, flowers bloom on your skin. Snarry.
Property of the Half-Blood Prince
by Lomonaaeren. Rated M. 12k. Angst & romance. Soulmarks.
Harry indulges in an enormous eye-roll at the universe when he wakes up on his nineteenth birthday with “Property of the Half-Blood Prince” written on his neck like a collar. He goes on to live his life like normal, without being too upset about it—and without telling Snape, who he’s sure wants his freedom now.
Penance
by PettyPrince. Rated E. 36k. Magical AU.
Prompt fill: As Harry’s soulmate, it is up to Snape to raise him when Lily and James die. When Harry is finally old enough to complete the Bond, Snape isn’t sure he can go through with it with the boy who he has raised as a son.
Succor
by pluperfectsunrise. Rated E. 40k. Soulmarks. Female Harry.
Five times Severus Snape comforted Harry Potter, and one time Harry comforted him.
it's an inevitable
by swoons (@swoontodeath.) Rated E. 800. Soulmark. Underage. Voyeurism.
Severus Snape can be patient. He's spent six years watching and waiting, after all.
The Lover's Ghost
by Weightless. Rated T. 8k. Soulmarks. Angst & pining. Hurt/comfort.
During the war, Harry and Snape spend their nights alone, at opposite ends of a dining table, plagued by nightmares. As they draw into each other, Harry realises that perhaps Snape bearing his soul mark was what he had desired all along.
He Knew
by WordsAreTrulyBeautiful. Rated E. 13k. Fluff & smut. Patronuses.
Celebrations, misunderstandings, a large manor, the patronus charm, and a whole lot of pent up sexual tension.
Really, it's all Sirius's fault.
A Universe of Searching Souls
by Writcraft (@writcraft.) Rated E. 9k. Soulmark. Soul bond.
When the small, innocuous mark on Harry’s hip begins to cause him discomfort, he decides to go and visit the person who has a similar mark of their own. He’s fairly certain there must be some mistake, because the universe wouldn’t be daft enough to give Harry and Severus matching soul bond marks. Would it?

REVIEWS OF THE WEEK!
Books I’ve read so far in 2023!
Friend me on Goodreads here to follow my more up to date reading journey for the year!
___
52. Nic Blake & the Remarkables: The Manifestor Prophecy by Angie Thomas--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I read this book as an audiobook from the library, but I also have an ARC from the publisher (full disclosure), which didn't affect my review in any way. I didn't know what to expect when I started this new MGLit title by the incredible author that is Angie Thomas, but I'm happy to say that I really enjoyed it!! Our MC is a young black girl who finds out some hard truths about why her and her father are always moving around. What happens after is a whirlwind of adventure and great dialogue, along with a very cute demon puppy. One of the things that stood out for me is how Thomas, like always, inserted important social commentary into her story. The comparison of her magical fictional world and our very flawed non-magical world will hopefully be a great way for younger readers (and the older ones who pick this up) to truly see the disparity with which certain people in society are treated in comparison to others. If you want a fun adventure full of magic and self-discovery, but also with some important topics being touched on, then I think you might really enjoy this one. I'm excited to see where Thomas takes this story!

53. Meet Me Halfway by Lilian T. James--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Re-read April 2023: I was on a re-reading streak this month, so I picked up another title I loved like hell when I first read it. I have to say that I STILL loved this. I loved how the gruff love interest slowly grew warmer with the MC and how their relationship developed. I don't have much else to say because this is still a favourite! I love this trope so much lol.
___
54. The Score by Elle Kennedy--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It has been five hundred years and I have finally finished this book. Despite how long it took me to read this book, I actually really enjoyed it. I loved the sexual tension between the two characters, even when they were denying it. I won't say much about this one because it felt a bit like a fever dream (once I started reading where I had left off before, I couldn't stop), but I absolutely adored how the MMC just completely fell so hard for the FMC, especially with how he reacted when she needed him during an emotional situation. Loved that ending too, since it really sets up the next book (which is a favourite trope of mine). Also, of course, can't forget the spice and how good it was. Gotta love that, too.
___
55. Mayhem by Jamie Shaw--⭐️⭐️
Re-read April 2023: Sigh. I changed the rating for this one because while I've chuckled at my past self about being so over the top in my annoyance with some trashy books, this one was something I was really surprised to see I had loved. The story itself is fun and I can definitely see why I loved that, but holy shitballs, this was a pool of slut shaming. So. Much. Slut. Shaming. Like, I lost count of how many times this MC called another woman a whore, a slut, or a hooker simply for having the audacity of trying to get with her crush, a literal rock star. "This bar smelled like sluts" was a personal favourite. I kept finding myself saying, as I listened to the audiobook, "wow, she is so mean. Why are you calling her that?" I get being jealous but like... come on. Anyway, like I said, I enjoyed the story of her falling for the rock star and hiding her identity from him, but it's definitely not the five star read I gave it years ago.
___
56. The Foxe & the Hound by R.S. Grey--⭐️⭐️⭐️
I finally listened to the audiobook for this after having it on my Kobo account for years. I've been intrigued by this author for a while because one of my friends really enjoyed her work (and binge read it a few years back). While this wasn't the best romance book I've ever read, I can see why there's hype behind R.S. Grey--the writing is fun, quick, flirty, and humorous. I loved the pup in this and how it had such a massive personality and was basically a main character alongside the FMC and the MMC. I also loved that the story did follow through with the idea of him being trained. I did like the characters together--the sexy new guy in a small town and the awkward beautiful girl who doesn't realize how many men actually want her? Sign me up. But a part of why this one wasn't super memorable for me was that even though I enjoyed these two characters, I didn't fully get the spark. It all felt very fast and the drama at the end felt forced. Would I read more books by this author? Definitely. But I will enjoy them simply as light and quick summer reads that won't linger too long in my brain after the fact.
___
57. Coach by Devney Perry--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Listen, a woman can only see so many people reading this and adding it to their TBRs before caving. Also, hi, I'm a sucker for a single parent romance...that is also lowkey forbidden. Not the biggest fan of second chance romances, but this one was delicious enough with angst that it wiped away that sense of frustration. I really enjoyed this--it was spicy, had a good few stolen kisses, had one hell of an office scene, and had two characters who oozed enough sexual tension to make your toes curl. I can see why so many people are jumping on this bandwagon. Honestly, it's always the football player and never the football coach. This was a nice change of pace. My main complaint is the awkward af prologue. I thought it was too quick and really, really awkward dialogue-wise. That alone could potentially be off-putting because the writing style is stilted and so different from the rest of the book--as if it was an addition during one final edit. There was some good communication in this one and the mother-daughter relationship in this broke my heart. I'm excited to read the next one in this series!
___
Have you read any of these books? Let me know your thoughts!

Happy reading!
