i love talking to Religious People but i dont love it so i called my mom earlier and my brother stopped by and to both of them i talked about my 8am religious thing and i was like - well, the UU thing sounded *fun* - it kind of felt like that was cheating - and my brother (practicing dirtbag catholic electrician who goes to mass and sits there having intrusive thoughts about the crusades) goes "yeah, well, it's not supposed to be fun, it's supposed to be reflective" . ok mister 500 years ago i would have chopped peoples heads off. first of all probably not they didn't send tater farmers on those kinds of things . second of all my mother goes "not supposed to be fun? where'd you get that idea?" like.........why didn't YOU get that idea? like. you grew up in the same religion i did and you don't have weird issues about it. unfair
#my dad's weird issues are the same as mine#except that instead of seeing them as a reason that perhaps catholicism is not good. he doubles down and sees church as Work#like church for him is a responsibility that proves he has initiative and is not a lazy shirker#for me the fact that i have these guilty thoughts at all is proof that i need to be very far away from that shit#like. i actively want to try and experience someone else's spiritual fun in a way that clicks with me#everyone i know believes SOMEthing and i don't. but i want to see if there's a way i could make it work without that#dad's answer would be to just keep going to mass until it does work (hasn't happened yet for either of us but that won't stop him)#mom's answer would be to pick and choose the elements of one of the world's strictest ritual faiths (a thing they tell you not to do)#my answer? i dont know yet#but i do know it's not the one i grew up with

Rat Sons AU: Character Introductions
Hamato Sho aka The Ancient One
more rambling & sketches:
(Had a bit of fun merging 03's Ancient One with bits of Rise's Splinter and Grandpa Sho, then started working on his origin story and was like fuck it! Guardians from 03! But for the Council of Heads from rise! but who are actually kinda more like the Ninja Tribunal from 03!! if they oversaw the world like the Guardians/Utroms! but were also kinda corrupt and uncaring of the lives of mortals and
the good news is now theres world building lore happening i guess, not just character lore??? is that good news??)
anywho, this is Grandpappy Sho!!
He's a little bit of a gremlin. Kinda rude, kinda sarcastic, kinda feral, and kinda very much had it with catering to the rules of 'polite society.' Basically, dudes survived some shit and has now decided that he will make that everyone elses problem too (/affectionate)
He lowkey resents his lineage and how he was raised, in the sense that he often wonders what life he could have lived if his youth was not fully devoted to "becoming someone worthy of the Hamato name." But he's actively trying to let go of all that and focus on being whoever he wishes in the present. Hence, gremlin.
A gremlin that is also, however, a freakin fantastic father figure (he swore to himself that his girl will literally never have to think about 'earning' any name, Hamato or otherwise; if she wants it, it is already hers, and wether she choses to keep it is entirely her own choice)
lol a lot of that was in present tense wasnt it? but yall know that aint quite true.....
tho, it might not quite be wrong exactly either...

HAMATO SHO aka THE ANCIENT ONE
Page 1:
Pronouns: He/Him
Age:???
Color Motif: ~desaturated sea foam green~
Last heir of the Hamato Clan lineage (by blood, at least)
As a young man, he spent decades training tirelessly to become a master of ninjutsu, molding himself into a perfect soldier, fully dedicated to maintaining his family's status as one of the most powerful names in Japan
Was selected to become a Guardian â an elite warrior chosen by the immortal Council of Heads to serve as an agent of their will. He served them for several years, increasingly resentful of their corruption and disregard for mortal lives
Abandoned his post after the death of a fellow Guardian (Tang Shen's biological father)
Disillusioned with both the Council of Heads and the world at large, Sho shifted his priorities from serving a 'Greater Good,' to serving his own needs and desires (and those of the people he cares about). He became very openly sarcastic, cynical and crass (he also found the way this horrified the neighbors to be freaking hilarious)
Did not think he would be well suited for caring for a child and really only expected to serve as a temporary shelter for Tang Shen until a proper family could be found for her, like maybe a few months or so at most?
Jokes on u, old man. Guiding a young Tang Shen through the routines of their daily life, watching her interact with the animals of the farm, teaching her how to do tasks so mundane he'd long since stopped thinking about them, Sho found he enjoyed the role of a parent more than anything else he'd ever done
Given his own experiences with abusive powers, Sho raised Tang Shen to be a very independent thinker, encouraging her to pursue her own sense of right and wrong, and to always be wary of those in power.
Though he trained her in both ninjutsu and the mystic arts (the good kind), Sho's greatest hope was to raise Tang Shen to make her own choices, and enjoy a life free of ancestral burdens or any ghosts from his past
Page 2:
As a Guardian, Sho underwent what he would later call an 'involuntary spiritual awakening.'
This granted Sho use of the Councilâs powerful mystic techniques through the manipulation of his own spirit and will. These teachings were a highly coveted secret, granted only to those in the final stage of becoming a Guardian, and they were often deadly to learn
The Council taught that a human could only access the mystic arts if granted the ability through Their own will, that the technique was one of faith, a sort of forfeiting one's own spirit in exchange for power
Sho, along with Tang Shen's bio dad (oomph he needs a name), discovered a way to refine the techniques of the Council, to create their own source of mystic power without the Councilâs influence, pulling from their own faith, emotions, and spiritual connections
Naively, the two told the Council of their findings. They believed that this new method of accessing the mystic arts would be a great benefit to both current and future Guardians, as it was far less damaging to the human body and mind
The Council disagreed.
Weapons that do not depend on you for ammunition are weapons that can turn against you, after all.

What you can do to make hypnosis safer and more fun for you:
learn self-hypnosis Trance is trance, wether you're being hypnotized by someone else, by a video or audio-file or just by yourself, it's still teaching you what it's like to follow suggestions, to go deeper or to wake up. Practicing these skills will make you better at going into trance in the future, which many hypnotists appreciate. Not everyone likes a tough nut to crack.
You can even give yourself suggestions that will improve your confidence and safety as a subject, for example, suggestions that remind you of your safeword, that help you to speak up if you need something (like going to the bathroom), even when hypnotised, or that help you recognise and refuse unwelcome suggestions. I sometimes do some self-trancing when I want to make sure there are no lingering effects after I've used a hypnosis file online.
learn more about inductions and suggestions Once you know something about the technique, you can more easily recognize suggestions, and therefore decide whether you want to accept them or not, and why. When you know something about inductions, you can figure out which ones will work for you and which ones will not, and which ones you just don't like. Once you know something about what hypno play could entail, you can make an informed decision about what you want from that, and you can more effectively communicate with your partner about your wishes and your limits.
ask your hypnotist to tell you about their experience and where they learned to do hypnosis Get to know them. Not just whether they have any experience at all, but you also want to know whether they are just a hypnotherapist who wants to have some fun in their free time, or a mind-control dom who wants to teach you new things, or a spiritual person who wants to help you grow. Make sure you want the same things. Get to know each other. And don't hesitate to conclude that this is not the hypnotist for you. I know, it's hard to find a kinky hypnotist. But really, you're better off not having play, than having things go awry.
ask the hypnotist to include safety mechanism in their suggestions The hypnotist can remind you of your safeword and your ability to say it anytime, no matter how deeply hypnotised, or reassure you that hey never want you to feel pressured to do anything. They can also include limits to their suggestions: only when I ask you, only when you feel safe, until the end of this session. Such limits could prevent unwanted or lingering effects.
If someone tries to hypnotise you before you've done the getting to know each other part, or before they've negotiated with you about what they should and shouldn't do with you, don't go into trance. Bite your tingue, squeeze your hand, whatever you need to stop yourself from going into trance. This is a really unpleasant situation, and a totally dick move. Walk away. Don't answer their message. Or get angry, that's totally justified.
Here's some more advice pulled from my class for people who like to be hypnotised that I teach at Charmed:
Hypno is a skill you can practice and get better at like playing the piano. It's unhelpful to get frustrated because you can't do it perfectly from the get go. Here's some things you can practice as a beginner:
Just going in trance and noticing what that feels like for you
Using your safeword/waking yourself up
Resisting/adjusting suggestions
My advice is to take time with a practice partner to work on these things first without getting into hot hypno fantasies. Much like starting out with rope, practice the basics first.
Here are some ways you can practice active cooperation during a hypno scene to help you get better at following suggestions and feeling hypnotised:
When the hypnotist says "you're feeling soo⊠<example>" try it. Imagine what that feels like. Use your internal dialogue to help hypnotise you. Just repeat some of the hypnotist's words in your head or out loud "Soo deepâŠ" Maybe your inner dialogue can make it into a mantra. Some people find this really hot and that can be a motivator to do it more, and to feel the effects more.
Practice responding and adjusting a trigger. Triggers are inside your head, they are yours to give to other people to use (or not). You decide what the trigger makes you do or feel and who gets to use it.
Play along. Itâs ok to fake it till you make it, because thatâll build neural pathways to help suggestions work better in the future.
Practice saying no. Sometimes you don't want to a do a thing right now. A trusted play partner is a very good person to practice this important skill with. It's also good practice for them to say "ok, thank you for stopping when you need to. Let's do something else." Maybe it's helpful to take turns practicing this.
Figure out, through practice, which modalities work for you. Do you react strongly to sexy hypnotist voices? You might have a preference for auditory stuff. Do you dream vivid images when in trance? You might be a visually oriented person. Or do you have trouble with visuals? That's valid. It's helpful to know these things about yourself so you can tell hypnotists about it.
Install safeties and contingencies in your head. If you're not yet comfortable doing this through self-hypnosis, you can enlist the help of a hypnotist friend. "I will only go into trance when I feel safe and comfortable doing so" or "Whenever I'm uncomfortable or in need of assistance, I will easily and automatically use my safeword" or "whenever a suggestion would make me uncomfortable or move me to a headspace I don't want to go, I'll find it easy to just ignore the suggestion".
If you're a person who spontaneously forgets what happened in trance, you can learn to remember it through practice. If you're a person who has never experienced hypnotic amnesia and it's something you'd like to try, there are ways to practice and figure out how to make it work for you.
The Unconscious Mind is just a metaphor, a way to help us understand how the human mind works. It's not a separate entity in your brain, your unconscious decisions/actions are your decisions/actions. Understanding your subconscious reactions helps you understand yourself, and you can work together with the unconscious part of you to keep you safe and improve yourself.
Because hypnosis is happening inside your mind, you are the one most able to protect and advocate for yourself. Sometimes you are the only person who knows that something is off, so you need to tell your partner about it, or they simply do not know. So practice communicating your needs during a kink scene, constant communication is really helpful. A sigh of "this feels so goodâŠ" can be just as useful to your partner as "wait, hold on, I need something".
In the same way you experiment and figure out your preferences in inductions and modalities, you should figure out what you need as aftercare after a hypno scene. Having your needs met will help you be a better bottom and a better play partner. Don't let anyone tell you you're "topping from the bottom" when you're just talking about your needs and your limits.
Hypnosis for people who want to be hypnotised
As someone who likes to be a hypnotist and who likes to be hypnotised, I can tell you that knowing how hypnosis works is not just interesting for hypnotists. Knowledge of hypnosis can also make you a better hypnotic subject.
If you think hypnosis is something you passively undergo, you're wrong. It's your subconscious, your mind doing all of the work. The hypnotist tells you what to feel or imagine, but that doesn't mean you have no say in it. Your mind may refuse to cooperate if you don't understand what to do, or if you really don't want it, because it's still you, no matter how deeply hypnotised. And if you get to know how this process works, you can teach your mind to refine the suggestions and only comply when you think it's appropriate.
When you're hypnotised, it's difficult to think clearly about whether what the hypnotist is telling is actually a good idea, and the hypnotist is using techniques that are designed to get you to just follow along. It may seem impossible to resist, but really it isn't. It's your imagination, you doing all the work. The hypnotist is just sitting there, talking. That kinda breaks the hot illusion that this hypnotist is bending you to their will, I know, and I was disappointed about that too at first.
There is this strange doublethink quality to being hypnotised, it's difficult to describe. When a hypnotist says "Your hands are stuck now, you can not move them at all" some people feel like they really are stuck, while others feel like it's not working and they can still move, when in reality it's both. It's a weird feeling, but it's very useful to become aware of it.
There is a moment, just after a hypnotic trigger, that's magical. Your brain is still processing: "Was that my trigger? Did they really say that? What am I supposed to do again?" It's the same as when the hypnotist asks you to wake up from hypnosis. This is why some people don't wake up when the hypnotist tells them to, because they expect it to happen automatically, when in reality it's up to them to open their eyes. Pay attention to that magical moment, because that's when you can just say: "Nah, not now."
If you can say "Not now", does that mean you'll never be hypnotised again? On the contrary. Responding to the suggestions of the hypnotist, vividly imagining what they tell you to imagine, is an active skill. Practising this skill means becoming better at recognising suggestions and responding to them quickly and intensely. Practise makes perfect and a hypnotist can teach you to become better at responding to suggestion. Or you can practise by yourself, by listening to a file and waking yourself up, or refusing the suggestions, for example.
So, is hypnosis dangerous at all, if you can just refuse? I think the danger of hypnosis lies in ignorance only. An unskilled hypnotist can place a command that doesn't work as intended because they didn't think all the wording through, or a command that gets triggered unintentionally. So this danger can be avoided if you know how to refuse a suggestion. And with experience, you can learn how to adjust suggestions yourself, either to make them work better, or not at all.
If you know how to recognise suggestions and how hypnosis feels, you can never be caught off-guard by an evil hypnotist trying sneaky covert techniques on you. You know how to wake up and how to refuse. Again, danger averted.
The only real danger lies in the moments when you can't make it stop, like if you're new to hypnosis, or if you've been hypnotised so many times that you just can't think straight anymore. In those moments, it's the responsibility of the hypnotist to take care of you, just like it's the responsibility of a Dominant to take care of their partner when they're in subspace. It's wise to negotiate with your partner about these situations before letting it come this far.
There is a grey area called amnesia; hypnosis can be used to forget things. It can be lots of fun to forget certain things for a while, but if you can't remember that you consented to what's happening, things can get iffy. And nonconsensual amnesia can be really unpleasant and difficult to fix. So I recommend you really think about that and negotiate with your partner before trying amnesia.
TL;DR: you can become skilled in recognising hypnotic suggestions, and responding to them, by learning about hypnosis, and by practising being hypnotised. And once you have that skill, you can use it to refuse suggestions and defend your limits too, even when deeply hypnotized.

"Zay's Entry" (Pt.I)
TW: SA
Fear and doubt are two of the quietest emotions to experience, but the have the strongest affect on the body. I am not talking about the fear that makes you scream or the doubt that actively goes against reason. I'm talking about the kind that forces you to feel small and question every little thing that you do. It is easier to hide behind the mask of your face, because the thought never leaves your brain. And on the inside of your mind are several storms of thoughts brewing.
I have experienced this for a while, now. Since my first sexual encounter, I have felt like sex was this thing that you were supposed to perform and be amazing. In my virginhood, I'd feel embarrassed for the guys or girls my friends would say were bad in bed. I thought, I hope I no one will be able to complain about me. And, that's just being a people pleaser. I would sext or send nudes, whatever, and I would hope to get back some sort affirming message related to my body, or the desirability someone would have for me. However, even in my virginhood, I had an individual to betray my trust, and it has made encounters difficult in romance and sexuality.
When I was still a virgin, which is when I was still closeted, I was sexting a guy while we were in high school. He lived in another part of the state, so it was low-maintenance and 0 pressure. But, one day, and it was an amazing day, he began to very aggressive and eager with me about getting more pictures. When I made it clear that I wasn't engaging with him anymore, he sent back every image I sent him through Snapchat Streaks. He threatened to expose my images on his story if I did not perform certain acts in the shower on video chat.
It was the most embarrassing, humiliating, traumatizing thing I had ever experienced. I didn't call it harassment because I wasn't open about my sexuality, I'm a male, and it happened virtually. However, I was coerced into doing something I did not want to do, and since then, sex has been something I wanted to enjoy, but I haven't yet.
Where it is a time to be in your body, I just begin to be in my head. Don't be too loud, or too aggressive, or too slow, or talk too much, and definitely don't cum too quick. Does he like this? Do I like this? Is this fun? Okay, I think I'm over it... Literally, constant thoughts circle through my head. It's like I am trying to execute the action so that I don't leave a sexual after taste in someone's mouth. No pun intended.
So, since finding out why sex was such a fragile subject for me to handle, I gave myself a chance to abstain from sex. I was already in my singleness and along a unique spiritual journey, so this was fitting just to see how I would be able to evolve in not relying or desiring the affection from someone else.
I learned how to love myself to a level where I began to value myself in a way I had never done before. I started building self-esteem that was intrinsic for once, and I was learning not to place value on what I had but on who I am. I began to romance myself and my life to experience the type of love I wanted from someone else. The thing is I was giving it to myself, in hopes that this would attract someone capable of loving me correctly.
More on the way...

Controversial Topics [True or False]
Created by joybucket
Either put an X by the statements which are true of you, or write True or False- whichever you wish. Have fun!
You don't share a lot of personal things on Facebook, because you don't really feel like it's the place for it. (I donât even have Facebook because of that) You've recently gotten into a political argument with someone. You've recently gotten into an argument with someone about religion. You consider yourself religious. You consider yourself spiritual. You don't consider yourself religious or spiritual. You believe abortion is wrong. ...but you also hate the idea of someone forcing a woman to have a baby she doesn't want to have. If a woman gets raped and then finds out she's pregnant, you think what she does next should be her choice. There are things about the LGBTQ+ movement you support, and there are things about it that you don't. You believe it's wrong for people to eat meat. đ„© You've held up a sign at a protest. đȘ§ You would never shove your views down anyone else's throat. You hate it when people shove their views down others' throats. ...and you believe it's wrong, no matter what those views are that they're trying to shove. You're strongly against abortion and are very passionate about the rights of the unborn. You have very strong political opinions. You've voted in every presidential election since you've been old enough to vote. đł (no I live in a kingdom) You believe that assisted suicide should be legal. You don't believe it's wrong to steal something that you need in order to survive. You're able to talk about your religious, spiritual, or political views in front of your family without feeling threatened for your life. You believe that health insurance should cover birth control. (doesnât it now?) You don't believe that someone should go to prison for murdering their abuser. You support public breastfeeding. đ€± You think going barefoot in public places should be allowed. đŠ¶ You absolutely believe that everything the Bible says is true. đ You know God is real. You know that people who speak in tongues aren't faking it. (what?) You know that some churches just want money. âȘïž You've never been sexually harassed or assaulted. You've bled through your pants in public. You think period products should be free. You don't believe that anyone should ever be forced to receive a vaccine. đ You believe in angels and demons. After being abused, you felt ashamed. ...even though you know abuse is never the victim's fault. You've been abused. You think more should be done about abuse. You think the police should be held accountable for their crimes and shouldn't be allowed to do whatever they want and get away with it. You've experienced something miraculous. You believe in the supernatural. You've had a supernatural experience. You don't believe that anyone should be punished for threatening suicide or attempting suicide. (threatening is tricky, though; it puts the other side in stress, itâs like guilt-tripping) You don't believe that everyone is clinically depressed. You don't believe that everyone suffers from anxiety. You think doctors give out antidepressants way too easily. You don't believe ADHD is a real thing. You've met someone who doesn't believe ADHD is a real thing. You've felt discriminated against. You've seen a ton of racist comments from people online, and you absolutely hate it. You believe that Jesus still performs miracles today. You've had a conversation with God. You've been baptized. ....and it meant something to you. You've lied to a doctor when asked if you were sexually active. You believe that a man who identifies as "transgender" should be allowed to use a women's public restroom. (as much as I dislike how this sentence is formed) You're a woman, and you think you'd be terrified if a man ever walked into the women's restroom when you were in there. You think that schools should do more about bullying. You've blocked a lot of people on Facebook. You think more should be done to help the poor. You wish more people would mind their own business. You believe renaissance faires are of the devil. You've wanted someone to talk to and had no one. You've cried yourself to sleep. You think more should be done about child abuse. You hate it when people take advantage of the poor. You believe it's wrong for a doctor to refuse treatment to someone who needs it. There's a medication you need, but insurance won't cover it. (thankfully I have it for free) You believe that epi pens should be affordable for everyone. You think the police should mind their own business more. You wish teen pregnancy weren't looked down on so much. You don't really care what people think of you. You care more about who you are than you do about your reputation. You have a different worldview than your parents do. You hate it when people act they know everything. You wonder why there are so many know-it-alls. You wish there weren't so many know-it-alls. You put political signs in your font yard. You've considered a career in politics. You enjoy getting into political debates with people.

On fae/faer pronouns and cultural appropriation
HOW IT STARTED
I had a handful, a very small handful but more than two, responses in the Gender Census feedback box telling me that fae/faer pronouns are appropriative. The reasons didnât always agree, and the culture that was being appropriated wasnât always the same, but hereâs a selection of quotes:
âFae pronouns are cultural appropriation and are harmful to useâ - UK, age 11-15
âIâm not a person who practices pagan holidays but, my understanding is that pronouns like fae/faeself are harmful because the fae are real to pagans and is like using Jesus/jesuself as pronounsâ - UK, age 11-15
âI know you've probably heard this a million times, so has everyone on the internet, but the ''mere existence''of the fae pronoun feels really uncomfortable for some of us. I'm personally not against neopronouns like xe/xim, er/em and the like, I am a pagan but apart from the, imo most important, reasoning of that pronoun being immensely disrespectful, I worry as an nb about people who banalize the usage of pronouns ''for fun'', and I'm quoting what some people have told me.â - Spain, 16-20
âI don't agree with fae/deity pronouns just from a pagan perspective it's very disrespectful to the cultures they come from. Like Fae are a legit thing in many cultures and they hate with a fiery passion mortal humans calling themselves Fae to the point of harming/cursing the people who do itâ - USA, age 16-20
âonly celtic people can use far/ faers otherwise itâs cultural appropriation, many celts have said this and told me thisâ - USA, age 16-20
So thatâs:
â Someone who doesnât say whether theyâre pagan or Celtic.
â Someone who definitely isnât pagan.
â
Someone who is pagan.
â Someone who doesnât say whether theyâre pagan or Celtic.
â Someone who doesnât say whether theyâre pagan or Celtic.
So, just to disclose some bias up-front, I am English so Iâm not Celtic, but I do live in Wales so I am surrounded by Celts. The bit of Wales that I live in is so beautiful in such a way that when my French friend came to visit me she described it as fĂ©erique - like an enchanting, magical land, literally âfairylikeâ or thereabouts. Coincidentally I have also considered myself mostly pagan for over half of my life, and I canât definitively claim whether or not the Fae are âpart of paganismâ because paganism is so diverse and pickânâmix that it just doesnât work that way.
To me the idea that fae/faer pronouns would be offensive or culturally appropriative sounds absurd. But also, I am powered by curiosity, and have been wrong enough times in my life that I wanted to approach this in a neutral way with an open mind. Perhaps what I find out can be helpful to some people.
So since we only have information from one person who is definitely directly affected by any cultural appropriation that may be happening, the first thing I wanted to do was get some information from ideally a large number of people who are in the cultures being appropriated, and see what they think.
~
WHAT I DID
First of all I put some polls up on Twitter and Mastodon. [Edit: Note that this post has been updated with results from closed polls.]
I specified that I wanted to hear from nonbinary Celts and pagans, just so that the voters would be familiar with fae/faer pronouns. I asked the questions in a neutral way, i.e. âHow do you feel about...â with âgood/neutral/badâ answer options, instead of something more leading like âIs this a load of rubbish?â or âare you super offended?â with âyes/noâ options. I provided a âsee resultsâ option, so that the poll results wouldnât be skewed as much by random people clicking any old answer to see the results. And I invited voters to express their opinions in replies.
Question #1:Â Nonbinary people of Celtic descent (Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, the Isle of Man, and Brittany), how do you feel about non-Celtic people using the neopronoun set fae/faer? [ It's good / No strong feelings/other / It's bad ]
Question #2: Nonbinary pagans, how do you feel about non-pagans using the neopronoun set fae/faer? [ It's good / No strong feelings/other / It's bad ]
The Twitter polls got over 1,100 responses each, and the Mastodon polls got over 140 responses each. With a little bit of spreadsheetery I removed the âN/Aâ responses to reverse engineer the number of people voting for each option, combined those numbers, and recalculated percentages.
Obviously this approach is not in the least scientific, but thankfully the results were unambiguous enough and the samples were big enough that I feel comfortable drawing conclusions.
Celts on fae/faer pronouns being used by non-Celts (561 voters):
It's good - 42.5%
No strong feelings/other - 44.0%
It's bad - 13.5%
Pagans on fae/faer pronouns being used by non-pagans (468 voters):
It's good - 47.2%
No strong feelings/other - 39.5%
It's bad - 13.3%
Hereâs how that looks as a graph:
The limitations of polls on these platforms means that we have no way to distinguish between people who have more complicated views (âotherâ) and people who have âno strong feelingsâ, so we canât really draw conclusions there. If we stick to just the pure positive and pure negative:
Celts were over three times as likely to feel positive about non-Celts using fae/faer pronouns than they were to feel negative.
Pagans were over three and a half times as likely to feel positive about non-pagans using fae/faer pronouns than they were to feel negative.
So Celts and pagans are way more likely to feel actively good about someoneâs fae/faer pronouns, even when that person is not a Celt/pagan. Thatâs some strong evidence against the idea that fae/faer pronouns are appropriative, right there.
~
CORRECTIONS
To be clear, I havenât done any research about the roots of fae/faer or the origins of the Fae and related beings, but my goal here was to get a sense of what Celts and pagans think and feel, rather than what an historian or anthropologist would say.
On the anti side, here were the replies that suggested fae/faer either is or might be inappropriate:
âI only worry that not everyone understands the origin of the word outside of modernized ideas of fairies.â - pagan
âAs a vaguely spiritual Whatever (Ireland), I think a mortal using "fae" as a pronoun/to refer to themselves is asking for a malicious and inventive fairy curse (on them, their families and possibly anyone in their vicinity, going by the traditions). I have not heard of this term before, so this is an immediate reaction from no background bar my cultural knowledge of sidhe/fae/term as culturally appropriate. My general approach is people can identify themselves as they want.â - Celtic
So weâve got a pagan whoâs wary that people who use fae/faer (and people in general) might not have a fully fleshed out idea of the Fae. And weâve got a Celt who doesnât mind people using fae/faer personally, but based on what they know of the Fae they wouldnât be surprised if the Fae got mad about it. No outright opposition, but a little concern.
There were not a lot of replies on the pro side, but not because people werenât into it, judging by the votes. There were a lot of âitâs more complicated than thatâ replies, many of which repeated others, so quotes wonât really work. Hereâs a summary of the Celtic bits:
âFaeâ is not a Celtic word, and Celts donât use it. It is French, or Anglo-French.
âFaeâ can refer to any number of stories/legends from a wide variety of cultures in Europe, not one cohesive concept.
There are many legends about fairy-like beings in Celtic mythologies, and there are many, many different names for them.
The Celts are not a monolith, theyâre a broad selection of cultures with various languages and various mythologies.
And the pagan bits:
Paganism is not closed or exclusive in any way. It might actually be more open than anything else, as âpaganâ is a sort of umbrella term for non-mainstream religions in some contexts. A closed culture would be a prerequisite for something to be considered âappropriatedâ from paganism.
From my own experience, pagans may or may not believe in the Fae, and within that group believers may or may not consider the Fae to be sacred and/or worthy of great respect. (Iâve certainly never met a pagan who worshipped the Fae, though I donât doubt that some do.)
And then we get into the accusations. đż
âthis issue wasnât started by Celtic groups or by people who know much about Celtic fae. It was started primarily by anti-neopronoun exclusionist pagans on TikTok.â
â[Iâm] literally Scottish [...] and itâs not appropriative in the least and honestly to suggest as such is massively invalidating towards actual acts of cultural appropriation and is therefore racist. Feel like if this was actually brought up it was either by some people who seriously got their wires crossed or people who are just concern trolling and trying to make fun of both neo-pronouns and of the concept of cultural appropriation and stir the pot in the process.â
âIt wouldn't be the first time bigots falsly claim âit's appropriative from X marginalized group" to harass people they don't like, like they did with aspec people when they claimed "aspec" was stolen from autistic language (which was false, as many autistics said)â
âIt's been a discussion in pagan circles recently ... People were very quick to use the discussion as an excuse to shit on nonbinary people.â
âI think it would be apropos to note that the word "faerie/fairy" has been a synonym for various queer identities for decades, too. The Radical Faeries are a good example.â (So if anyone has the right to [re]claim it...)
A little healthy skepticism is often wise in online LGBTQ+Â âdiscourseâ, and some of these people are making some very strong claims, for which Iâd love to see some evidence/sources/context. Some of it certainly sounds plausible.
~
HOW DID IT START?
I had a look on Twitter and the earliest claim I can find that fae/faer pronouns are cultural appropriation is from 18th February 2020, almost exactly one year ago today. Again, tweets are not the best medium for this, there was very little in the way of nuance or context. If anyone can find an older claim from Twitter or Tumblr or anywhere else online, please do send it my way.
I have no idea how to navigate TikTok because Iâm a nonbinosaur. (Iâm 34.) I did find some videos of teens and young adults apparently earnestly asserting that they were Celtic or pagan and the use of fae/faer pronouns was offensive, but the videos were very brief and provided nothing in the way of nuance or context. For example:
This one from October 2020 with 29k â€ïžs, by someone who I assume is USian based on the word âmomâ?
This one from December 2020, that says âI am pagan and i find it rather disrespectful. Itâs like using god/godr or jesus/jesusr.â Thatâs probably what inspired the feedback box comment above that refers to hypothetical jesus/jesusr pronouns.
If anyone is able to find a particularly old or influential TikTok video about fae/faer pronouns being appropriative Iâd really appreciate it, especially if itâs from a different age group or from not-the-USA, to give us a feel for how universal this is.
For context, fae pronouns were mentioned in the very first Gender Census back in May 2013, though youâll have to take my word for it as the individual responses are not currently public. The word âfaeâ was mentioned in the pronoun questionâs âotherâ textbox, and no other forms in the set were entered so we have no way of knowing for sure what that personâs full pronoun set actually is. This means the set may have been around for longer. The Nonbinary Wiki says that the pronoun set was created in October 2013, as âfae/vaerâ, later than the first entry in the Gender Census, so Iâll be editing that wiki page later! If anyone has any examples of fae/faer pronouns in use before 2013 I would also be very interested to see that.
~
IN SUMMARY
Obviously I canât speak for everyone, as the Twitter polls are not super scientific and they only surveyed a selection of Celts and pagans within a few degrees of separation of the Gender Census Twitter and Mastodon accounts, but I can certainly report on what I found.
For a more conclusive result, weâd need to take into account various demographics such as age, culture, location, religion, race/heritage, etc.
As far as I can tell based on fairly small samples of over 400 people per group, a minority of about 13% of Celtic and/or pagan people felt that use of fae/faer pronouns is appropriative.
A much higher number of people per group felt positive about people who are not Celts or pagans using fae/faer pronouns. The predominant view was:
It canât be cultural appropriation from Celtic cultures because fairy-like beings are not unique to Celtic cultures and Celtic cultures donât call them Fae.
It canât be cultural appropriation from pagan cultures because paganism is not âclosedâ or exclusive in any way, itâs too broad and open.
~
If your experience of your gender(s) or lack thereof isnât described or encompassed by the gender binary of âmale OR femaleâ, please do click here to take the Gender Census 2021 - itâs international and it closes no earlier than 10th March 2021!

your chart ruler + the stage of your life
generally speaking, where the ruler of your chart is sitting sets the stage for your life. this means that your focus will be more intense in that area. the ruler is also important, as it can indicate the nature of things occurring there! for example, having jupiter as your chart ruler sitting in the 1st house is vastly different from having saturn as your chart ruler sitting there. read on to learn more!
part i: the chart ruler
MARS
you are generally high-energy and active. you are never sat still for too long, and for the most part, you handle things head-on rather than waiting for them to wrap themselves up. as a result, this can lend itself to an almost pushy impression on others, unless mars is aspected positively with another planet like venus, neptune, or saturn.
VENUS
you act with a certain kind of grace and charm. you have a certain personal touch that you imbue things with, and you aren't one for conflict or discord. in fact, you seek harmony as often as you can, and comfort is one of your top priorities in any situation. typically, it either isn't easy to anger/upset you, or you are very good at hiding when something does.
MERCURY
flighty and restless are your most prominent qualities. in life, you easily move from one thing to another, never quite settling the way others do, and you may even find you are doing multiple things at once. you have a curiosity and thirst for knowledge that tends to drive what you do. you will also find that you are pretty good at conversation and possess natural wit.
MOON
like the moon, your disposition and emotions seemingly go through cycles. you are blessed with a form of intuition that a mother would display--when your friends need something, you just know what it is, and unspoken emotions are picked up by you subconsciously. you find it hard not to care about things, and people can usually tell when you are upset or going through something.
SUN
like the sun, you are full of vitality and light, with seemingly endless energy. you just have this glow about you. your personality is very strong and well-developed, and you have a good sense of who you are. you possess natural leadership qualities. you are just generally a very genuine person and don't try to deceive others about who you are. maintaining your health and vitality is of utmost importance.
PLUTO
you are magnetic and mysterious in a way that either draws others in or intimidates them. you radiate a subtle power that you can use to your advantage. when it comes to your passions and goals, you have a ferocity that is unmatched, bordering on obsession. you aren't the kind of person to be casual or dip your toes into things, you absolutely immerse yourself in them. you are very private.
JUPITER
you possess a heart of gold--generous, kind, and loving towards others. your view of life is positive, and you maintain a faithful and optimistic attitude whenever possible. it is safe to say you are a pretty lucky person, or at the very least, you create your own luck. you aren't afraid to dream big. sometimes you can go a bit overboard when expressing yourself.
SATURN
you are mature and responsible. people find that they can rely on you when they have your word, and it is very important to you to keep promises. it is easy for you to get stuck in negative thought patterns and to be hard on yourself, as you have very high expectations. You are ambitious and generally like the feeling of working towards your goals, knowing it will pay off in the future. you are very concerned about how people see you and your reputation.
URANUS
you are an individualist at heart. you believe in the freedom of people to live their lives and pursue whatever path they want, and if someone tries to stifle your freedom, you are quick to leave them in the dust. You also have a mind that is powerful and creative, able to learn new information lightning-fast. you like to consider the facts and have an open mind.
NEPTUNE
artistic and dreamy, you give the impression of being a sensitive, almost spiritual soul. you are particularly swayed by music and art because your mind is very abstract. you have the unique ability to be something akin to a social chameleon. you are very compassionate towards others and have a high sensitivity to your environment. your tuition is extremely strong
part ii: the stage
1st house;
you're very focused on yourself more than other people, and your dominant sign comes out in pretty much all facets of your life, but especially upon first meeting someone. if your chart ruler is very different from the rest of your chart, this can lead to someone getting the 'wrong' impression of you. developing a strong personality is of utmost importance here. you care a lot about your appearance and how you are perceived.
2nd house;
forming a strong sense of self-confidence and security is your primary focus. you care a lot about financial security and your own sense of personal comfort in a physical sense. you feel attached to the things you own. possessiveness isn't uncommon here, especially if pluto sits here. you either have strong values that you hold close to your heart, or you feel the need to develop them.
3rd house;
what motivates you very often is your curiosity and desire to connect to others. you enjoy good conversation and want to make friends. you tend to move from one thing to another, and you are very good at multitasking. you have a distinct style of speaking that is colored by your chart ruler, and people find you to have a good sense of humor and a lot of intelligence.
4th house;
there is a deep need to have a place that you can call 'home.' you are a relatively private individual and enjoy a lot of separation between work and home. your family has a high amount of influence on you, and it is very likely you will stay close to home. your background comes into play very often and informs your actions. anything sentimental has a big impact on you.
5th house;
you live your life for the things you are interested in. your hobbies can take up a lot of your time and energy, and if you don't get enough time with them, you feel drained or on edge. you love having fun and expressing yourself creatively. this could be someone who likes or wants kids. you do enjoy attention from others, especially if it comes from their admiration of you.
6th house;
your body is certainly a temple. you care a lot about taking care of yourself, and you have very specific routines in your daily life. these rituals contribute heavily to your wellbeing. you can also find yourself to be a bit of a workhorse (or workaholic if you aren't careful). you are dedicated to the service of others, even if it simply means lending a helping hand or giving advice.
7th house;
the focus in your life is other people. you define yourself based on your relationships with them, and if you aren't too careful, you can get lost in other people and lose your purpose. it's almost as if you need partnership to live a happy life. your biggest skill is your ability to create harmony, because you are a good mediator and try to compromise when possible.
8th house;
this makes you extremely private and secretive. you could live an entirely separate life and nobody would know! you also tend to know more about others than they think, and you never reveal more than you want to. i think a persistent theme of your life could be very intense situations and circumstances. transforming yourself is going to be very important, as is processing and working through your past.
9th house;
You live for the pursuit of knowledge, especially that of a higher level. You want to expand your mind through new experiences, meeting people of different backgrounds, and traveling to new places. It is entirely possible you will live your life in another country or a completely different part of your country. you view life as an adventure and are always in search of something new.
10th house;
your future and career are of utmost importance to you. you feel like you have to make a name for yourself. if you don't have accomplishments under your name, you feel like you have failed. so much of your life is spent in the pursuit of success. you shine in your career and could end up rising to the top. you make huge efforts to influence your reputation for the better.
11th house;
more than anything, you want to say you belong to some group. your friends are your life, and they are your family. it is likely you are involved in groups or organizations, whether it be through your school, a hobby you have, or something else. you also strive to create change within your community. in this house, you are always in pursuit of your personal goals and are very future-minded.
12th house;
a lot of your personality is hidden in a way, unlocked mostly when you are completely alone. you spend a lot of time in solitude and don't mind it. loss, sorrow, and grief could be a consistent theme in your life. truly, you express yourself most when nobody is watching. people see the fruits of your labor, but not the work you put in behind the scenes. you could have extensive daydreams or vivid dreams.

im really trying to find a place in my spirituality/religion/personal philosophy or whatever as an excatholique. idk. i get that it takes time and effort to find a new place in the world. but right now really i just wanna smoke a fat blunt with ol luci downstairs. any advice?
honestly? my advice is that if right now u wanna smoke a fat blunt with luci, you should literally go ahead and do that (u know, metaphorically speaking lol). try it out! see if it fits! it might, or it might not, or it might feel good now and then bad in a few weeks/months/years -- and if that happens you can just try something else out instead. nothing wrt ur personal spirituality needs to be inherent, permanent, or serious.
letting urself experiment with different beliefs/paths is hard when you're raised catholic, but ime it's the only way you're gonna find a comfortable niche! just keep it no-pressure, low-stakes. because it is. genuinely. I 100% promise. despite what the church sometimes teaches, an all loving g-d will always forgive you and welcome you back if you change your mind later or if you wanna go back at any point. and this is just my personal opinion: but most deities are like that in general too.
being a human is so hard and confusing if you get too focused on the big picture. so for now, focus on this moment. pursue however you feel in this exact moment. then stay mindful. and when the moment changes, you may notice the way you feel changes too, and then you should pursue that instead. this includes taking a break when you want to take a break, or analyzing your beliefs through a psychiatric lens if you ever notice a pattern of distress.
stay open, too. read and learn from as many varying sources as you can. different religions, sects, teachers, philosophers, etc. and be critical of those sources. ask yourself, "why do they believe this? why do they want others to believe this? who does this benefit? who might this hurt?", as well as "if I followed these teachings, who would I be? would I be the person I want to be? would I be someone else? how would I benefit? how would others benefit? could this hurt me in any way? could this hurt others in any way?" thirdly, pay attention to the other people involved in whatever you're looking at, and ask, "are these the kinds of people I want to surround myself with? are these the kinds of people I want my unaffiliated friends, s/o, or family to associate with? how do they treat people with different beliefs? how do they treat me? what do they have to gain or lose from me joining them? would they be ok if I left later on?"
and on a serious note: learn the BITE model. cults are real, and prey upon questioning people. scientology, mormonism, and jehovah's witnesses are all cults and dangerous. in the left hand path, joys of satan is a cult. the church of satan and satanic temple are not cults (afaik) but deeply flawed/harmful in fairly covert ways. individual churches/groups within an otherwise harmless religious sect can also be cults, so don't necessarily trust people based on the seemingly-safe labels they advertise. also, relatedly, please please go out of ur way to actively research antisemitism, dog whistles, and antisemitic appropriation. these prejudices are unavoidable no matter what path you look at (excluding judaism itself, I'm assuming), so you're inevitably going to encounter them again and again (and most likely already have). don't contribute to that harm.
anyways, that's a lot to process but I hope it helps. I understand how difficult this can be, myself being an excatholic occultist/devil worshiper (who still holds loose ties to catholicism anyway cause fr this shit isn't serious and it's fun to mix-n-match). and btw if ur ever really craving xtianity but don't wanna put up with the shittiness of most xtian churches, universal unitarianism is generally pretty ok and openly leftist (and not strictly xtian either, but that still kinda depends on the individual church imo).
wishing u the best of luck!

How To Get More Of What You Need In The Bedroom
Hey, we've all got needs...right?
Shellie R. WarrenOct. 08, 2021 06:12PM EST
Sexual needs. Lawd, they are so real, y'all. This is something that I try and get through to the head of some of the clients that I work with â that when it comes to sexual activity, there are some things that each and every one of us deem to be necessary, an urgent want or something that's essential when it comes to experiencing true pleasure. And when those needs aren't met? Boy, that can lead to all kinds of sex-related issues including a disconnect between partners, less sexual frequency or even resentment over time.
Hopefully, you're getting all of your current sexual needs met. But if you happen to be someone who is out here feeling some type of way because you and your partner are not getting more of what you and/or they desire, I've got seven things that many people have told me they wish they received more of in the sex department, along with some insight on how to get these particular kinds of needs met.
Romance
Whenever I'm talking to married couples about what they wish they received more of, as far as bedroom action is concerned, it never fails that wives will usually say "romance" while husbands typically say "spontaneity". As far as what's behind Door #2 goes, I'll get more into that in a sec. For now, I'll touch on romance. Personally, I think it's so important when it comes to sexual activity that I wrote "What Does It Truly Mean When Someone's 'Romantic'?" and "Tonight's The Night For A Really Romantic Sexual Experience" for the site. One of the main things to keep in mind about romance is the fact that it needs to happen way before even stepping one foot into your boudoir. You know, I've been working with couples for many years now and I find it to be no surprise that a lot of people whose sex lives are ho-hum and subpar are also people who don't spend a lot of quality time together â going on dates (including sex dates), taking weekend road trips, going for walks after dinner, cooking together, dancing to their favorite R&B jams in the living roomâŠyou catch my drift.
If you wish you could get more scented soy candles on your nightstand and rose petals on your bed, start with getting together with your partner to plan some dates together, even if you've got to get super creative and have them at home (check out "10 Romantic Dates You Can Go On (In Your Own Home)"). The more thoughtful and attentive the two of you are outside of your bedroom, the easier it will be to act that way inside of it.
Spontaneity
I'm working with three couples right now where the husbands are pretty close to being pissed and shutting all the way down. Why? Well, when they were dating their wife, sex was random, fun and it happened all of the time. This was pretty much the case during the first year of their marriage as well. Yet as time has gone by, morning sex a few times a week has now become sex twice a month â and that's if they are lucky. Oh, but not right now. Now it's like their wives wanna screw like rabbits. Why? Because they are trying to conceive a child. Getting pregnant, each husband is fine with. What's got them triggered to high hell is the fact that if these women can muster up all of this sexual adrenaline to get pregnant, why can't they do that just to enjoy being with their partner?
These men have a point. Besides, sex shouldn't be treated as a "means to an end". When you're married, it first needs to be honored as a priority and staple in your relationship (because if there is one thing that should separate everyone else from you and your spouse, it's that you have sex with your husband), along with being a very intimate way to get closer to your partner â to bond with them on spiritual, emotional and physical level. And while there are times when life may require that you schedule it in order to make it happen, there still needs some spontaneity up in that mug too. Again, I didn't say it â most of the men I know, married and single, say it, on loop, all of the time.
And why is spontaneity such a big deal? It's impulsive. It's passionate. By definition, it doesn't require a ton of effort or premeditation. Some synonyms for the word include simple (dig that!), automatic, free-spirited, unavoidable, uncontrived, off-the-cuff, and inevitable (dig that one too!).
Being spontaneous is meeting your partner at the door, butt-ass naked. Being spontaneous is joining your partner in the shower while they are in it. Being spontaneous is sending random texts about all of the things on your sex bucket list that you want to check off over the next couple of weeks. Being spontaneous is walking into his office and engaging in some oral action, regardless of what he's doing. Being spontaneous is letting him know, out of the blue, that you want to make the kind of movie that only the two of you can watch together.
It's kind of crazy that if spontaneity is the main thing that you and/or yours are missing, it's important to talk about it first. However, if you remember the synonyms "simple" and "inevitable" while you're having the discussion of how to bring more into the sexual part of your relationship, it really can remind you both to come up with ways to make each other feel desirableâŠjust becauseâŠwith absolutely no agenda other than cultivating pure pleasure on a dime.
Seduction
Ah. The art of seduction. If anyone is bored when it comes to their sex life (check out "7 Signs You're In A 'Sex Rut' & How To Get Out Of It"), I'd venture to say that a lack of seducing and/or being seduced is playing a major role in it all. Shoot, I'll take it even further and say that some people aren't getting what they need in this area because it's been so long since it's happened that they have lost sight of what seduction even entails.
Flirting is an act of seduction. Dressing seductively on dates is an act of seduction. Wearing lingerie is an act of seduction. Extending foreplay (including mental foreplay; check out "Mental Foreplay Hacks That Ultimately Takes Intercourse To New Levels") is an act of seduction. Taking off each other's clothes, ever-so-slowly, before sex is an act of seduction. Bringing in sex condiments (check out "12 'Sex Condiments' That Can Make Coitus Even More...Delicious") is an act of seduction. Doing anything with the intent of enticing your partner to lust you? That is what it means to seduce him.
Unlike spontaneity, seduction is something that is extremely premeditated. You've got to think about what kind of scent he adores on you and where he likes you to put it most (check out "8 Natural Aphrodisiac Scents, Where They Go & How To Make Them Last"). You've got to ponder whether you should go out with him with a lace thong or with no panties at all. You've got to really reflect on what kind of atmosphere to create that will make him want to climb the walls. That's the cool thing about seduction, though â the more thought you put into being the ultimate seductress, the more excited you will probably get about the day or night that lies ahead.
Affirmation
I am a words of affirmation kind of gal. I'm pretty sure that's a big part of the reason why I'm also such a fan of dirty talk â and indeed, like other sexual activities, it is a skill; it's not something that comes automatically or easily for everyone. OK, but I'm getting a little bit ahead of myself here. Let's first touch on why affirming your partner is such an important thing to do. While actions are definitely important, words are too. When you affirm someone, you're letting them know that you see them, that you value them and that you appreciate having them in your life. Affirming someone can help to boost their self-esteem, to make them feel closer to and safer around you and it can remind them of why you chose to be with them in the first place.
While it's not discussed, nearly enough, dirty talk can definitely be a form of verbally affirming your partner because when you're telling them what you're physically attracted to, what you enjoy about the act itself and what they can do to get you to get there â it's like participating in a sex-themed pep rally of sorts. Besides, the best kind of sex incorporates all five senses (sight, smell, touch, taste and hearing) and when you are telling your partner what you adore about them and what pleases you most about sex, in your absolutely sexiest voice, how can that not inspire them to give you more of what you need and want? Exactly.
Oral Action
There are a few people in my world who have pretty high sex drives and yet, at the same time, they aren't big on kissing (check out "Umm, What's Up With These People Who Hate Kissing?") and/or giving (or sometimes even receiving) oral sex ("Sooo...What If You HATE Oral?"). While I personally can't relate to either stance (chile), if you happen to be someone who falls into either category, something that can help in the oral sex department is flavored lubrication. Hey, I'm not playing. These days, there are all sorts of brands that taste so goodthat it can make going down or being gone down on a lot more pleasant if you or yours happen to be someone who is hesitant because it's just not something that you can wrap your head around (no pun).Â
Also, if you happen to be someone who is self-conscious about if you're doing it well or not, well, I'll put it to you this way â you're probably gonna lick an ice cream cone way better than an empty spoon. In other words, sweet skin is gonna make you way more enthusiastic and passionate than plain skin will. Feel me? Anyway, as far as letting-lube-lead-the-way goes, check out "The Wetter, The Better: 10 Creative Ways To Use Lubricant". It's a little hack that really can make a huge difference. HUGE.
Pampering
Is it just me or does it seem like pampering and sex don't go hand in hand as much as they should? When I think of "treating with extreme care" in the context of coitus, to be honest with you, what comes to my mind is more afterplay (check out "Sure, Your Foreplay Game Is On Point. Now What About The 'Afterplay'?") than anything else because, if we're gonna be real, it's a lot easier to want to act "excessively indulgent" towards your partner when you're trying to get some. Oh, but it's next level to do it after you've already "been to the mountaintop" and nothing sounds more appealing than a nap.
So, how can you and your partner sexually pamper one another after sex? A massage. Soaking in the tub together. Giving each other a handwritten note or card that you had prepared beforehand. Feeding each other aphrodisiacs like strawberries, chocolate, and watermelon. Surprising each other with "favorite thing" tokens.
Basically, by making sure that the "end" is just as sweet, special, and satisfying as the beginning, that can make each sexual experience that much more endearing and memorable. It can also make both of you really excited about being with one another againâŠvery, very soon.
Pillow Talk
I've shared before that if you've got a man who happens to fall asleep right after sex, you really shouldn't get mad at him; that's how he was created. There is a biochemical called prolactin that's released when men ejaculate that typically results in them feeling drained and tired. Not much can be done about that. However, what I will say is a lot of the guys who I've discussed this with have told me that falling asleep is a lot easier to do when their partner decides that she now wants to talk about where the relationship is headed, what bill needs to be paid or what chore needs to be done around the house.
In other words, guys are already tapped out after sex and so, a boring or emotionally draining conversation definitely doesn't inspire them to want to keep their eyes open. So, if more pillow talk is what you're after, try and keep the topics light, crack jokes or ask if he's down to watch something fun on the tube. While there is a time and place for "deep" pillow talk, right after sex usually isn't one of them. However, if you relax and try and stay in the flow of the moment, many men are down to spoon and chat for a while. Hell, 5-7 minutes, at least. #wink

Witchcraft asks: The Hierophant đ€
The hierophant: is there a set of rules you go by in your craft?
First of all, thank you so much for the ask! Now these are neither written, and nor are they clearly set, but they're more like the general guidelines I try to follow in both witchcraft and paganism. I'll list those I can think of, but in no particular order.
Instead of blindly following somebody else's recipe, I always seek to do to it my way because I believe everybody doesn't interact the same with different "energies". I'll do that by learning practices relevent to my family or area, for example. (That's also why I don't believe in some witchcraft books' habit of plugging a random deity's name into a spell, regardless of the deity's relationship with whoever's casting it. Don't ask for the help of a God you've never honored, and whom you don't know a thing about! Call upon Gods you work/want to work with, instead! That should go without saying.)
I always try to live according to the seasons. I'll cook seasonal dishes as much as possible, and try to put as much care as I can into yard chores like raking leaves or shoveling snow, as they make us part of the cycle, so to speak.
I try no to accumulate too many witchy knick-knacks, such as cauldrons, bells, grimoire books, etc... Because if I don't use them after the purchase, then it makes me feel like I'm somehow not productive enough. If a spell requires an object I barely ever need and which I don't possess, then there's always ways for me to fill its role with something else, or even make it if needed.
I've always tried to acknowledge and respect all of my Gods equally, without discrimination. I have reasons for putting more effort on the worship of this or that God, depending on the period, but I still try to acknowledge and honor the rest even when I can't actively worship them during that time. That's because I believe they are all equally worthy of admiration and gratitude. I hope that made sense!
No shame! I don't feel ashamed of my practices, anymore. I used to, for a while, because I was scared of people's reactions. But now, that's all behind me. If people don't approve of my spirituality, there's still nothing they can do to change me so the problem is entirely theirs and not mine.
Learn from people! That's the last "rule" I can think of, but it really is quite important to me. People have so much to tell and I have still so much to learn. And even if I don't learn anything new from someone sharing their experience, then I can still enjoy the beauty of diversity. It's just so fun to hear about unique practices and beliefs!

Years later, Katniss new in town, either seeks shelter there, maybe looking for her sisterâs missing cat? Is Katniss trapped or injured or on the run? Does her singing soothe Peeta when he slips from shy to explosive personality? Does he free her? Do locals storm property looking for her? Is Katniss the delusional crazy dangerous one who repels the attacking horde with explosion, then is soothed by gentle Peeta who promises to care for her because turns out Prim died long ago and Katniss never faced truth? HEA for them, maybe not for townsfolk. [submitted by @567inpanem]

the beginning or somewhere in the middle
I am starting this tumblr for multiple reasons 1) because I feel a deep hunger and desire to document the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, artistic and ancestral journey the creation of this gallery space is requiring me to undertake 2) because I want to create a space that feels a bit farther away from social media apps like instagram and tik tok that mirror capitalism and the attention economy we experience in our world 3) because I have never created anything like this in my life before and maybe someone somewhere else will find it useful to learn about the process of curating a community gallery space especially maybe someone who doesn't have an MFA or feel like they belong in these types of art spaces or has always wondered who gets to decide what to put on a wall and deem it important 4) because I am learning so much and gathering and everything is living in my notes app or in random journals or a google folder and a figma moodboard and it would be nice to have somewhere that feels like a home for these precious stories and dreams 5) I always have loved tumblr and xanga and little blog things and would like to document and go on this journey in a way that feels exciting and fun for me and not worry about whether I am 'documenting correctly' whatever that means
I am creating something but more importantly I am trying to work really hard to step aside and allow something to create through me. I am hoping somehow I can be open and vulnerable and strong enough to allow something ancient and old to move through me and maybe move through others and bring us together.
While I love beautiful things I sometimes get scared or worried about how visuals and beauty can allow us to gloss over the meat of what really matters. how curration can make us worry so much about how we execute that it leaves the realm of intention and enters the realm of influence and control. I'm not sure if I want to share this blog in live time or have it all go public when the gallery launches on September 23rd, 2022.
Everyday for the past 2 months I've told my friends ' I dont know if this is going to happen is this really going to happen who knows if this will happen' even though I have taken steps such as doing a gallery walk through and writing a budget and getting consultants (read: got to use Harvard's money to pay my friends who do beautiful work to help me and that makes me feel so giddy). I don't know how to drive and for some reason that feels like a huge barrier because I also have a million hang-ups around money that have been activated while creating this gallery. Questions like - can this really be my job? will this sustain me? I obviously am not creating this for the money but it would be really nice to be paid fairly to do this work. it's hard to put a price on the soul excavation and creation.
I just got off of facetime with my mother, we have a contentious relationship but this gallery has somehow allowed us to come together in a way I did not expect. I am learning that the creation of this space has turned into a portal - people love saying the word portal these days and I never really have understood it until now.
this is an undertaking that has allowed me and expected of me so much faith (as it should) to enter places inside my heart and my family's history that I have always been scared to touch or did not even know existed. questions lead to stories about ancestors who were court poets 7 generations back and meditations lead to temples filled with water and women who have been patiently waiting for my arrival. sometimes I feel like I can gaslight myself but what I find is the more I write and create and follow and listen somehow lived reality and history match my intuition or what pours out of me that I hold with question.
I am in love and falling in love with someone I have known for nearly a decade. I think they are a gift but also that maybe god is blessing me with the experience of falling in love during this time for a reason. I never knew falling in love could be such a spiritual and magical experience. it is such a gift to fall in love with someone who is dedicated to spirit and god and ancestry and magic and art. to have someone where I am able to have doubts and questions because I no longer am carrying faith on my own but am encouraged to tend to it.
the capricorn rising in me wants to create checkboxes and lists and to-do lists and I have them. excel sheets on excel sheets. and something bigger tells me to swim swim swim to carve out space and ease and see what arises.

PLAYING WITH FIRE
Not quite sure how to put this into words, but someone else needs to know what I know. This story can save so many people and I wonât feel right until itâs consumed by as many as possible. I canât express how many times Iâve tried to get this out. I almost even gave up on it, but God wouldnât let me. So, let me make another attempt at it - this is how I escaped the devil:Â
-
It was a Friday night, April 5th, 2019.Â
Iâm at El Rey on U street, having a few cold ones by myself. Just got off work, taking it easy...
-
Then, I end up running into and old âfriendâ I used to hangout with. Known him for about 7 years at the time: (Dave) - tall, black, dreads, above average build.
-
After a couple of drinks, he asks if I want to hangout at one of his friends house. Said we can smoke there and that she has a lot of drugs.Â
So I accepted cuz I was originally going to let the night unravel on itâs own and it didnât sound like such a bad idea at the time.
-
It was a habitual routine I developed during my heartacheâŠ
Iâd go out alone, run into a group of people I knew, bar hop âtil we ended up at an after hours spot (or someoneâs place) and shamelessly sleep my next day away.
-
So we get to the front of his friendâs building and itâs like a 60sumn-year-old lady:Â
(Robin) - fat, white, short, blue hair, top row gold grill and âride or die bitchâ tattooed on the back of her neck (amongst a couple others, but that one stood out most cuz it was in my face, while she was unlocking her apartment door).
-
At first, I thought it was a descriptive-type of tattoo. Like, she was saying that thatâs what she was.
But in retrospect, it was almost like it was something she was saying to me - youâll see what I mean later, if you donât get it now.
-
Oblivious to what was about to happen next, I continued to walk through that door...
Something felt off, but I just figured it would be something low-level weird.Â
Iâm always seeing signs that show somebody dabbles in magic or the dark arts, but I figured âif Iâm not actively practicing divinity or doing weird rituals, it wonât personally affect meâŠif I donât create a ceremonial invitation, then Iâll be okay.â
-
Now, Iâve already had a good amount of spiritual experiences at this point (good and bad), but for some reason I just didnât think anything like this would happenâŠat least not to me.Â
-
I thought I had it all figured out, cuz I thought Iâd seen it all - or at least enough.Â
I shouldâve known thoughâŠI was just so emotionally numb at the time, I was doing anything to feel anything.
I mean aesthetically, she looked like sheâd have a few good stories or something. Needless to say by now, but I ignored the red flags.Â
-
So, moving forward...
We walk in, sit on the couch, watch skate videos and start breaking down.
After a few minutes of small talk, they offer me some acid from a vile. Emphasizing how it was very high grade stuff - but I didnât need much convincing anyway.Â
-
I was very into psychedelics and considered myself extremely experienced in that realm.Â
But just because I did it a lot, didnât mean I was. You couldnât tell me I wasnât though.
It was usually my go-to for when I needed that unrivaled escape from reality.Â
So yeah, I took the witchâs brew thinking it was something I considered fun.
-
Once it starts to kick in, I can feel her beginning to stare at me from the end of the room - with a big grin on her face.
She then suggested that I take my jacket off cuz Iâm going to end up getting really hot, and cackled like it was the funniest thing the world to say.
-
It was something she said a couple of times too. At first I didnât know exactly what she meant, I just thought she was a basket case - but she was implying that I was going to end up in HellâŠyouâll see what I mean.
-
A few moments go by and they suggest we move the party to the rooftop cuz her place was limiting and we could see more from up there.Â
Plus, she wanted to blow bubblesâŠand I figured âtripping indoors is boring anyway, why not?â
-
Now because I took my jacket off and left it in her apartment, I began shivering after a while.Â
I didnât expect for it to be that windy, I wanted a nice little breeze.
So she says sheâll get me one, cuz she had to go in for more soap anyway - comes back and asks to put this fur coat on me.Â
It was a nice coat, so I let her.
-
So Iâm cozy now and she gives me a tour, showing me the cool visible parts of the city.
Telling me not to be afraid of my true potential and that I can obtain everything I want.Â
I was feeling pretty good about those words, until I thought âthat sounds familiarâŠwhat if she isnât speaking in general?â - but I just chalked it up to her being an old hippy.Â
-
She then grabs my arm and tells me to look at this red wall, as we walk to the other side of the building. I figured itâd be something visually enticing she was trying to share, but this was going to be her first attempt at hypnosis.
-
She asked if it felt like my soul was being massaged - encouraging me to ride it out. Essentially, trying to get me to put my guard down, saying âthis is where dreams become reality.âÂ
Then, I began seeing holographic outlines of people in the wall. The traces reminded me of a glowing snail trail.
-
Right after, I saw myself turn into a block of flesh and almost being slid into the wall if I stared any longer.Â
But like I woke up in one of those falling dreams, I snapped out of it.
-
With a laugh attached, she says âdamn, almost!âÂ
And thatâs when I stopped letting myself be completely naive. The veil was clearly being lifted before me and I needed to be alert. Itâs just, I had this slight muffle surrounding my common sense.Â
-
Now I knew hallucinogens were considered sorcery in the Bible, but I figured - one more time wonât hurt. Itâs not like I wasnât still smoking and drinking.Â
Itâs just crazy, cuz it was after learning about what the fallen angels taught us, is when I decide trip again.Â
I blatantly chose to play with fire and defy God that night. Â
-
See, these hypnotic spells are telepathic contracts. Once the manipulator is installing a vision, itâs at the last second where it becomes your choice to see what happens next. Â
-
It nudges at your curiosity, feeling like itâs a part of the trip youâre supposed to let ride out.
But every time I almost did, my heart wasnât having it and Iâd snap out of it again.
-
Every time she would cast a spell, I could feel my soul almost getting pulled out - with a malicious presence surrounding me.Â
The goosebumps I got from this thing, felt like it was ready to defile me in every way possible.
-
In disbelief that what I thought might be happening, wasnât - I tell myself âlet me not cause a ruckus for no reason, I am trippinâ after all. Think of something positive.â
But now my eyes are shifting everywhere, cuz I keep getting a glimpse of whateverâs approaching.Â
Even with that many peculiarities, something kept me in denial.
-
Still though, she tries another set-up and tells me to look at how high up we are, as she gestured for me to look down from the rail. As if I didnât already know, but I go cuz I also didnât want to be rude.
-
So I grab the rail and lean overâŠ
(Dave) says âdonât let go,â giving me this wide-eyed look with a smile and said âyou feel it, donât you?â
Then just like that, my heart jumped and my mind began getting flashes of demonic symbols and images like subliminal messages.Â
-
My vision was about to go black, like the circle closing at the end of a cartoonâŠuntil I snapped out of it and backed up with my head on a swivel, angrily questioning them.Â
Thatâs when I caught (Dave) behind me, quickly hiding his hands.Â
-
Now Iâm on survival mode and it feels like I canât even make a step without risking my soul. I can feel that Iâm being made a fool out of, but of course they gaslight me and try to calm me downâŠ
I still didnât want to believe I was in this kind of mess, but Iâd be naive to let all that slide so easily.
-
So with caution, Iâm trying to plan my escape - playing it as cool as I can, but my body is getting heavier by the second.
She then lifts her speaker and says âlisten to these different frequencies, it can change your mood.â
I really wasnât trying to listen, because I needed to leave and I didnât trust her at all now. Especially not with anything sound related.
But then out of nowhere, I hear a distorted garble come out of the speaker and hit my ear.
-
I said âhuh!?â
Then (Dave) was like âoh, you heard that...?â
I looked away and acted oblivious, cuz I felt that if they knew I could hear that, theyâd bring out the big guns.
-
(Dave) laughed, saying to Robin âwait, he still donât know what this is yet?â
Unintentionally, or intentionally letting me know.Â
So I tried to leave and they started laughing. Trying so hard to keep me thereâŠ
-
(Dave) said âyou already âbouta do it, itâs better this way anyway.â
Then he was like âlook at my hands, this shit trippy, right?â
Followed by him creating an infinity symbol with his waving hands.Â
Now this infinity symbol was made of light and floating in mid-air in front of him after he did it.Â
Right after that, he did the hermaphrodite/goat-headed deityâs pose, flipping his hands and head perfectly in a stiff dance.
Which then caused me to see itâs true form in my minds eye. I snap out of it once again, trying to get a hold of my reality.
-
Once I can see them again, itâs like time stood still and only I could move.Â
Iâd look around and theyâd be frozen.Â
At this time, I can hear them having two conversations, simultaneously.Â
All I caught was (Dave) say âhe canât hear us in this plane.â
-
Then as he slowly got up - like I was tuning through a radio, I hear a screeching static clear up. The sound then becomes like an electronic bleating and bellowing from a goat, in-sync, surrounding him.
-
At this moment, Iâm a part of their their collective conscious conversation - essentially telepathy.
Then they began letting me know who they were.Â
Saying that they were angels, that they were around before us and that I can be like them.
-
The whole time they were talking to me, they were trying to weaken and hypnotize me with hand signs - trying to convince me. Thing is, when they did try to convince me, theyâd always talk around the subject at hand - but once you know what the subject is, the situation becomes clear.Â
-
A lot of people might think theyâd get physical and get out of there. I just donât think theyâd understand how it is fighting sleep paralysis, awake.Â
I also knew that one false move would take me to the âsunken place.â
-
I knew I couldnât just stand there though, but right before I grab the door to get to the elevator, (Dave) says âokay, you gonâ be waiting on that elevator forever; this is a REAL tripâŠcâmon, I thought you liked this shit.âÂ
Mockingly he asked âyeah, I guess you gonâ think twice about taking LSD again huh?â
-
I was thinking in my head âfuck, did I really just lose my soul? Is this how it happens? Is this where it all ends?â
I thought that was it, so I was about to give in and accept the offer - see what benefits I could get, if any.
-
Then from there, every time we almost sealed the deal, I would feel a hungry fire approach me from behind.
The one time I decided to look for where it was coming from, I got a vision with an orange blur in it - slowly materializing, until I could make something out of it. With the bit that I saw, I knew it was me being swallowed by fire and not dying.Â
-
Immediately after, almost as if I had touched the flames themselves, I yelled in confusion âwait, what? No! Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior!â
-
To which (Dave) nonchalantly responds âokay, you do that...that [N-word] died a long time ago.âÂ
I look at him with disgust and continued to pray.
Telling God that He would never abandon His children if they encountered evil and that if there was a way for Him to save me to do it.
-
(Dave) says that Iâm blowing his trip and leaves to the gas station.
At this time I couldâve left, but I still didnât want to be alone in an elevator with him.
-
So as Iâm praying, I begin to feel the dark grip they had on my heart loosen up. It was like my heart was pumping electricity throughout my body, then all around it. I could feel the forcefield - Christ had arrived and I could move my body freely. No more fear in taking the wrong step.
-
So on (Daveâs) way back, (Robin) announces it and says letâs go downstairs and get him. Thatâs when I hear (Dave) say - not yell, âopen upâ from all the way downstairs and I was amazed...I was like âwait, can he still hear me?âÂ
With him responding âDUH! Damn, you some shit!â and continued on his way.
-
So if I was to leave, this was going to be my chance.
In the elevator she tries enchanting me again, but I rebuked every attempt.Â
Iâm trying to maintain focus the best that I can, so I donât slip - which made this elevator ride unnecessarily more intense than it needed to be. Â
-
Once the elevator door finally opens, I see (Daveâs) silhouette behind a thick glass rail, carrying an ominous slouch.Â
Walking towards me, he notices that Iâve calmed down. So when he sees my face, he smiles and asks âoh, youâre good now?â
-
I replied âI am and Iâm not with the goofy shit yâall up to - Iâm gettinâ the fuck outta here.âÂ
So as Iâm walking towards the exit, he yells âthatâs not the way out!â
To where I respond âfuck yâall!â
-
You wouldâve thought I opened the door before touching it, the way I left out so fast.Â
As that door closed, I did a little jog to get across the street.Â
But a few seconds later, I feel this tingle in the back of my brain, as though it had neck hairs that stood up.Â
I look over my shoulder and noticed he decided to follow meâŠof course. Shortly after I noticed him - with that bull-like slouch, he started running.Â
-
Now I was a little ahead of him, so I didnât start running yet. I had to make sure I knew where I was going before exerting my energy.
Every time I moved my head, I could feel the tingle coming from his direction.Â
So there was no losing him - but I am fast.
-
I couldnât call a ride because my phone was dead and I couldnât go to anyoneâs house at the time, cuz it was around 5am now.
As (Dave) got closer, I felt my vision going black and my body getting heavy again. A lot stronger this timeâŠtime to kick it into high gear.
-
Once it clicks into my head that the easiest place to catch a taxi in such a heated moment would be in Adams Morgan, an opportunity presented itself.
-
Ahead of me was a crosswalk and the orange hand was counting down itâs last seconds. Everything I ever learned told me I wasnât going to make it, but I wasnât going to stop running either.
-
So when my foot lands off the sidewalk, is when the cars to my left and right begin to move.Â
Thatâs when everything moved in-slow-motionâŠand a burst of energy launched me across the street.
Iâll remember that moment as my own Air Jordan.
-
That moment bought me time, but he kept going too. This is when I start hearing echoed garbles crawl off buildings and jump into my ear âyou acting like a bitch - come back!â
Perfectly as if he was next to meâŠI look behind me and itâs like he hasnât broke a sweat. Completely focused.
-
From the gas station diagonal to the 9:30 Club, to the McDonaldâs in Adamâs Morgan.
My body wanted to give out most of the way, but soul wouldnât allow it.
I just had to keep running until I found a taxi - which I did.
-
Thatâs when (Dave) caught up, yelling âyou look like an unk right now!â cuz 4 taxis stopped for me in that intersection.
To where I respond âI donât give a fuck, I made it out alive!âÂ
I get in the car and tell the taxi driver to drive towards Maryland, that Iâll give him the address on the highway.
-
Finally, after surviving a living nightmare, I made it home.Â
I went to my room, played some worship music, got on my knees and wrung myself out of tears to Christ.
-
Afraid to sleep because I knew they could contact me in my dreams.
So I didnât until the drug wore off in the afternoon the next dayâŠ
I even felt that burn on my back as if it was sunburn for the next couple of weeks.
-
Iâm so grateful to still be alive, because Iâm 100% positive Iâd be in Hell (with something else in my vessel) if I didnât call on God that night.
It was like I was tiptoeing on a needlepoint to keep my soul.

Daniel Howell on Depression and How to Get Through The Night
Daniel Howell is the YouTube star breaking boundaries about depression, who has now released a book to help people with mental health issues.
Daniel Howell is one of the most popular YouTubers out there, with millions of followers and a refreshing line in self-deprecating humour that has made him stood out from much of the braggadocio on that channel. He is also someone who dared to go beyond the jokes and gaming on his channel to reveal his battles with depression to his young audience a few years ago, producing a huge response from people. Now he has written a book about mental health, called âYou Will Get Through This Nightâ. A mix of information, advice and laughs, the book is a welcome addition to the elevation of mental health as a national issue, and it manages to be so in a way that is going to connect brilliantly with young people. We grabbed a word with Daniel over Zoom to find out more about itâŠ
When did you decided to write the book and what was the process like?
It was a very serendipitous journey I never planned. All this talking about myself and mental health, and sharing these quite intimate details about my own life, was never the plan. I started my career trying to be funny, just being a clown on the internet, but as time went on two things happened: one, a sense of responsibility creeping up on me where I realised anyone with a platform has an impact on people, and even if you think youâre just being funny, if you do share yourself, people relate to you and you end up resonating with them on some level.
Also just for me, I have always been so career focused, Iâm one of those guys that pushes their well being to the back, and after years of me doing that it just got to the point where I couldnât do it anymore. It was not only affecting my ability to be good at my job, and be friends with people and nice to be around, but creatively it was this real hump where I felt like if I donât sort my life out, and get on top of these problems that I know are lurking behind me, Iâm not going to be able to go forwards.
It was that which led me to talk about my experiences with depression in that YouTube video âDaniel and Depressionâ that I uploaded in 2017, and that was a huge moment for me. Even five years ago, there was such a taboo around mental health. These days people go, â arenât we all open about mental health now?â but just five years ago, it was a completely different world. I thought me bringing up a word like depression would destroy my career. âAre people not going to want to work with me? Are my friends going to think Iâm strange?â
But I was honestly surprised, for the first time in my life, by the reaction I got from humanity. Because my upbringing led me to being very cynical, to be very defensive and to protect my vulnerability. Actually when I shared something that was so raw, people appreciated it. On some level people were like, wow you articulating it made me understand something I didnât get about myself, or my mumâs been through this and I finally get it, or now I know what my friends are going through.
When you open yourself up, despite the fear, people appreciate it because this is how people think and feel. Weâre all vulnerable, weâre all trying to protect ourselves, weâre all putting on this front, focusing on our careers, pushing everything to the background; but then itâs a truth that when you open up about how you really feel, not only is that a weight lifted for you but it lets other people in.
Then I became the mental health guy. I didnât ask for it, it became my thing.
The book always had the question of what it might be. People always want to write their life stories, but firstly my entire life story is already out there on the internet, it was there in real time. I thought if Iâm going to do this, I want to do a mental health book that just gets straight to the point, itâs not going to be too scientific, itâs not going to be too spiritual or flowery, itâs going to give you the information you need, the tools, the tips, the life hacks, the stuff that science has shown will make a difference, as bare as we can, in bullet point form. And then my job is to make it stupid and funny by using myself as a punching bag doing everything wrong in terms of managing your mental health. For me itâs the book I wish I had five, ten years ago.
Was putting it together enjoyable, once youâd given yourself permission to have fun with it?
Yeah writing a book and collating all these life saving tips on mental health, was good for me. The process of writing the book was like reading it. I needed the experience of putting it together so I could learn from it myself.
What Iâve learnt from just being funny is itâs a bit of an excuse to give yourself therapy. Youâve set yourself the task of telling this story, making this point or joke about something, and in the process of trying to find out whatever this point or joke youâre making, thereâs a bit of a moment of self reflection in there.
So itâs fun to have an excuse to tell a story and be funny but for me itâs been emotionally cathartic too.
What are the main things you learned or that even changed you?
One thing was the 360 around your lifestyle. The book is structured practically into 3 parts. The first part is what are things you can do right now to change the way you feel, the second is lifestyle, what changes can you make, and then the third part is looking deeper, at more long term things about readjusting your mindset and working out what makes you as a person.
The process of going through the lifestyle for me felt a bit like a roast. Things like the importance of your social life, the importance of your nutrition, the importance of how often you move, and it was very difficult to be aware of what might just be my personality and preference. Iâm an introvert, Iâm a bit of a nerd, I like to stay inside, I donât like to party a lot, and I just learned that if you donât go jogging youâre going to have more anxiety than someone who doesnât. It was good to have all that shown up.
A nugget that was quite profound is that you can always change the way that you feel. I was always having days where I was really stressed from what I was working on, or a period where Iâd be really depressed, and sometime I would wake up and immediately know Iâm not having a good mental health day. When Iâm not going to be able to perform, Iâm not going to be a very helpful friend. I just used to say to myself âthis day is a write offâ. But what I learned from this book is you can change how you feel by doing something. Your activity directly influences how you feel.
It got rid of the excuses because sometimes it was like, âIâm having a bad day I simply cannot do that taskâ Â when you probably can. Itâs empowering for yourself to say, âActually if I eat something, if I get a change of scenery, if I talk to someone, if I problem solve to question my thoughts and readjust my mindset, you can change how you think and feel on any day.
With mental health so many people ego through their life thinking itâs this weird mysterious fog that they canât impact on. Sometimes you feel bad and thereâs nothing you can do about it. But actually weâre just weird hairless apes, weâre not that complicated, and there are little things we can do to snap ourselves out of it.
How do you think itâll fit into the current times?
The idea that this book is coming out when our society is opening up again is almost a divine intervention! There is literally no better time to sort your life out. Weâve all gone through so much, this collective trauma, and the dent to our lifestyles and ability to self-care. Not only have we had all the joy ripped away from us, but people havenât been able to go to the gym, to get support from friends, and this is a new chapter for everybody.
Iâm seeing it as: can take this next step and not fall back into bad habits? This is a good time to put a pole in the ground and move forward in a good direction.
What are the key things youâll be taking forward?
Itâs not just the lifestyle stuff, itâs also about mindset changes. Iâm a worrier, one of these people that thinks myself into oblivion. It means Iâm analytical but Iâm not very present, I spend a lot of time in my head prophesising my own doom. One of the things in the book is realising that you are not your thoughts. If you get a negative thought in your head actually thatâs just your brainâs suggestion that you should feel stress about this, that and the other but we donât have to stay fixated on these worries.
Iâve spent the last ten years in therapy, deeply going into myself asking questions about authenticity, confronting my sexuality, but also itâs been about just day-to-day having a better relationship with my own mind. That when I get these emotions that want to spiral into a panic, or make me feel very stressed, just to talk back to myself with the right attitude and say I donât need to go down this rabbit hole due to this thought. I can just acknowledge it was an idea my brain had to think about and I can choose to do whatever I want with it. I can choose to solve the problem and break it down, I can ask for help I can give myself a reality check, or I can just acknowledge the thought and say âNo thank you Iâm going to do something else with my day.â
Back to the first depression video â are you aware of the difference between you then and now?
Itâs profound, I would say me aged 26 was someone who didnât question anything. You think you have a career priority and if I have any emotional baggage, itâs just not important right now.
Obviously there was the huge issue of my sexuality which had a huge impact on my mental health. My entire life story from childhood to how I was perceived as a public figure, how I operated day to day, and even my acceptance of a thing that I knew was true deep inside me, I had an incredibly toxic view of that at the time. I needed to understand it. I went to therapy and learned a lot about the way I would talk to myself, the way I would beat myself down and tell myself that things are the way they are and thereâs nothing I can do about it. I should tolerate certain situations, and that was all wrong, so Iâve become much better at being fair to myself. Accepting my own vulnerability instead of building up a huge wall; letting it down, being honest with myself which is important if you ever want to change anything for the better. Also you get closer to other people when you feel like they can really see you.
How have conceptions of masculinity affected that?
The whole concept of masculinity was huge in my life. I had a very macho dad, he didnât emote, he didnât share anything, it was all jokes and all on the outside. I got to 16, 17, that age when you notice adults for the first time and cotton on to it. I could see the pain he was going through but he didnât want to confront it. I also went to an all-boys school where thereâs no vulnerability, you canât give a small opening for someone to jab a compass in. That was the culture that shaped me. That continued into my late twenties when I had the moment when I realised being honest with yourself about something going wrong is bravery. Itâs not weak to admit vulnerability if itâs going to help you grow. Itâs not a sign of weakness to go to the uncomfortable place. Life is a series of uncomfortable obstacles that you put off, but every single time you go over them, you look back and go, âoh why did I waste so much time not doing that sooner?â
Is masculinity shifting do you think?
Definitely, roles in society have been so Neanderthal. If you have a personality with a stiff upper lip and it works, good for you, but someone else may feel pressured to hold things in and eventually theyâre going to crack. Itâs ok to ask for help and to let go of that, thatâs what weâre learning in society. Conversations in mental health are so much more normal. Thereâs a long way to go in terms of judgment and misunderstandings, but I hope the book will spell it out for a lot of people. The book has been fact checked by a psychological professional, Dr Heather Bolton and all of the advice in the book is from evidence based practices that have been shown to have a good effect. Itâs not just a nice sounding idea. We all have that friend on Instagram whoâs like, âPositivity! Yeah here we go!â And you go, âWow that image had great graphic design it must be true.â No it isnât. So weâre in an age of people opening up but thereâs also a lot of nonsense on Facebook so when weâre thinking about how we feel and making changes to our lives, we need to trust the experts.

Did you experience something bad or scary with Randonautica?
Okay, I want to speak to all of you as a person whoâs specialized in spirits, spiritual work, demonic activity and paranormal about one currently hot subject:
Randonautica app.
Now, those who donât know what this is, the app letâs the user to find something they set their mind into. You can wish to find something beautiful and the app gives you a spot where you need to go. Or you want to find an abandoned book and the app takes you there. Sounds fun, right?
But, thereâs a downside; a possibility to harmful and traumatizing events. For some reason this app operates like instant manifestation mixed with Ouija board. A single app canât possibly randomly know where to take you when you want to find something you set your mind into. Only a spirit realm has such a knowledge and not all spirits are fun. Not especially if you think itâs just fun and games and try something like âLOL letâs ask it to find something evilâ. You know, such a quest let a teenager group in the USA to a dead body that had been cut into parts and stuffed into a luggage back. I have seen one video where the group wanting to find evil was sent to a woman who was clearly possessed (I can sense energies from videos and photos and can tell if something is a hoax - that was not). I have seen people shaking and crying after they thought this is a harmless little fun with horrible requests, like some Halloween game.
Now, while it might be fun to try to find something scary and horrifying, the chances are that you will find something you didnât want to find, see or hear. Like that dead body. Or a dangerous person or situation. Or an evil entity, even a demonic one, which can follow you to your home (or get attached to you). At home, it can harm you or your loved ones, pets included. Itâs nothing uncommon that a demonic entity can kill pets if it can find its way into houses. And, itâs not uncommon that spirits WILL follow you and attach themselves to you - and appear first completely harmless, especially if itâs demonic.
If you donât know what you are doing, you leave yourself exposed for unwanted things and spirits, just like with ouija board. I have 30 years experience in paranormal and 21 years in divination and spirit work, and still today I donât own or use ouija board, even when I know how to make it harmless. Itâs a powerful professional tool.
The app itself is not evil. Just like a knife is not evil. Itâs how you use it; like witha knife, you can cut yourself a piece of delicious bread or cheese, OR you can go âLol, I wonder what happens if I stab someone with this?â. Thatâs how the app works, too.
My recommendation as a professional of these matters is that first, you donât use Randonautica for spooky lols because you have no fucking clue with what you are messing with. You donât have to believe in spirit or paranormal or anything else such for it to be out there. Just like the weather doesnât ask whether you want it to happen to you or not, if you mess for lols with honestly dangerous things like hauntings, paranormal, ghost, spirits, evil, demons, demonic itâs the same as trying Russian roulette with yourself. In the worst case scenario you take something with you to your home - this is very common and an amateur mistake - or you get a demon stalker which seeks to possess you. Again I remind that you donât have to believe in these things; they WILL happen if you open yourself up and expose yourself to them with these fun and games. Basically your wish to encounter something, letâs say evil, with Randonautica is an invitation for a spirit to attack and attach to you. Nothing might not follow you, but the risk is super, super big.
Second, concentrate on wanting to see, experience and find something positive. Ask for the guidance from light/love, so it shuts the entry from negative spirits, like people who were evil and passed away but havenât crossed the light yet, negative nature spirits and demonic entities.
Would you want to find something evil, you need to perform yourself a spiritual protection and then spiritual cleaning. It must be performed to all and do it properly. Not anything âLol this is so fun and exciting lolâ. It asks professional mental and physical work. You should also spiritually protect and clean your house. You should also ask guidance from love and light. This is the rookie mistake I see with every fricking ghost hunter and paranormal investigator(s), excluding one American team, one British team and all the Arabic investigators due the strong presence of religious beliefs-
Final thing: If you have encountered something scary, traumatizing, troubling etc. with Randonautica, please know that my DM and ask box are always open for you. Also in Twitter at niuniente. If I can help you, I will. If I can explain what you experiences, I will. There are very little things I wouldnât have any knowledge of when it comes to spirits, paranormal, demons and spiritual laws. I know such things are scary and many suffer even decades when they donât know what theyâre dealing with and what to do with them. I donât want you to live in fear of something you donât understand. I want to help if I can, even when I canât come to you to perform any cleaning and protective rituals physically.
If nothing bad happened to you, thatâs good! Not everyone gets horrible outcomes with the ouija either. But too many do. Be cautious and look after yourself and your friends.

Re-post from r/MeehanSurvivors Reddit Community. An Enthusiastic Sobriety Counselor Survivor Story.
TW: References to child pornography, conversion therapy, homophobia, masturbation, and sex.
I would love nothing more than to preserve my admiration for the program, if only for the reason that it would be easier to do so, but after years of being deceived, I find it utterly absurd to disregard any contempt on the basis of the misplaced gratitude that it saved my life. While the program undoubtedly contributed to my success in a number of ways, it has nevertheless become clear that Iâve walked away with trauma that, even after all of this time, I fail to wholly understand. What I do know, however, is that my disillusionment with enthusiastic sobriety is heavily rooted in how I was treated, as the people who claimed to love me evidently made it their mission to eradicate who I was and, likewise, transform me into a duller, lesser version of themselves. I will never know who I couldâve been had they honored the parts of myself that needed nurturing, only who I am today and the damage Iâve since been left with.
From the moment I joined the program, I knew exactly what its expectations were. It was made abundantly clear throughout the treatment process, where I was bombarded with endless conversations about what it meant to be a winner - a concept given context far beyond a sober individual working the twelve steps. I was not only told how to behave, but what to believe about every area of my life. It did not matter if those areas were deeply personal, as evidenced by the countless discussions related to sex; in fact, I would not only learn who we could and could not fantasize about while masturbating, but what we could and could not do sexually - as if we could not be trusted to determine for ourselves the actions we take in our own bedrooms. I also found myself on the receiving end of many conversations revolving around whether or not it was acceptable to shave oneâs own pubic region, as was a commonly held belief that a shaved pubic region was not only unnecessary, but a product of oneâs own vanity that, incidentally, mimics child pornography. Perhaps more disturbing, however, was the ideology surrounding pornography, in general, that we were ordinarily subjected to. We were first told that no self-respecting woman would want to be with a man whoâs actively watching porn; then, we were told that it alters a manâs behavior so much that women will be able to recognize whether or not they watch it. The possibility of romance was used as a weapon against us by the counselors, as well as group members, to conform to their principles, rather than allowing us to establish our own and when that didnât work, personal attacks were their next best option. I remember being asked if I really wanted to be the guy whoâs strung out on porn the rest of his life, as if it was some kind of crippling addiction that would keep me from getting anything I ever wanted out of life. Even more importantly, however, it was through these frequent exchanges that I became familiarized with âPavlovâs Dog Theory,â a scientific study so bastardized by the counselors that it existed solely to explain away the possibility of any non-heterosexual orientation. Being insecure with my own sexuality, it was of course music to my ears to discover that my attraction to the same sex, a perversion as I then recognized it, was the result of watching too much porn and could be easily resolved by the work outlined by the program. For the next few years, I would work endlessly to alter my sexual orientation back to ânormalâ and apparently did so well enough that I was eventually asked to attend the Meehan Institute of Counselor Training.
When I was in counselor training, most of what we discussed had very little to do with counseling; in fact, the information required to pass the state-mandated test was tossed aside in exchange for the radically inappropriate teachings that came directly from the program itself. Examples of this, of course, include the explanation that non-heterosexual orientations were not only âunnaturalâ but an expression of oneâs perverse desire for instant gratification, usually resulting from either their addiction to porn, as I had already learned in outpatient, or their unresolved childhood trauma. It was also reasoned that an attraction to the same sex was often a natural consequence of being in an abusive relationship with a member of the opposite sex, a belief supported only by the theory that the person, in question, had unlikely resolved their own fear of getting hurt again. Some people were just âpussiesâ that had decided to seek the âeasier, softer way,â an almost comical assumption given that there is nothing âeasierâ or âsofterâ about being queer. I would actually be referred to as a âpussyâ while sharing to one of the program's many directors that I had sexual thoughts about other men. His solution for me was that since âthere is nothing romantic about two men butt fucking each other,â I should spend the time wasted fantasizing about that on where I would like to take a girl on a date. Itâs these ways of thinking that we, whoâs families spend $5,600 to send us to counselor training, learn for the three months that weâre there. Itâs these three months, where we are taught that absurdity is a natural substitute for science, that earn us the right to then counsel others, many of whom are children. I never could've imagined the abuse that would follow, despite the seeds that had been sown throughout the better part of my recovery.
A few weeks after I graduated from counselor training, when I was working the Step One shift, a couple of the program's directors took me away from it to smoke cigars with them. It was there that they talked to me about how I needed to work on developing more masculine qualities, perhaps by engaging in a hobby that was, according to them, âoutside of my comfort zone.â Later on, one of my coworkers would lecture me for the way I had reached out to a girl in the group, explaining that she, along with others, might think that Iâm gay for agreeing to watch a âchick flickâ with her. Another coworker would make fun of me for crying to a song that reminded me of my dead parent, for the reason that it was, according to her, a âgayâ thing to do. In one of the monthly purpose meetings, the director made jokes about me being âinsideâ of another male counselor - something that was received only with laughter. Bob Meehan himself would even tell the training class following my own that while I deserved the upmost respect for taking everyoneâs shit, I was probably gay. When I would share how I felt, in reference to these incidents, I was told that my options were either to âchange itâ or to âown it.â I began to internalize all of this and, due to my own desire to be accepted, I began working even harder to change these qualities that had been deemed unacceptable by those around me. I would later be celebrated in a purpose for denouncing a dramatic television show for the reason that when I watched it, it made me feel like a âfaggot;â however, even that wouldnât satisfy those around me, as my sponsor, who was also my coworker, would suggest that I stop watching Friends, as well, due to the fact that it was the kind of show his wife watched. I would experience similar criticism from yet another coworker who suggested that I only liked âgirly shitâ for âshock valueâ and that it was nothing more than my ego attempting to differentiate myself from everyone else. If by now youâre wondering why I even participated in these conversations, all I can say is that it was always in pursuit of becoming a better man and I trusted that the staff had those answers. I couldn't have been more wrong, as I can't help but notice today that what I was subjected to is in direct opposition of the very laws that protect employees from this kind of treatment by their employers; however, in the program, whatâs illegal is classified as âspiritual.â
For years, I felt relegated to a subclass of human existence and for what reason? I spent years working on the things that made my life unmanageable primarily because the people around me decided that it was. Furthermore, I was promised that if I stopped watching porn, which I did for years, my brain would rewire itself and I would no longer be attracted to men. As stupid as that sounds now, why wouldnât I, as an 18 year old, believe what I was hearing from who I only presumed to be trained professionals? I trusted them and really worked hard to take their every suggestion, going as far as becoming a member of Sexaholics Anonymous, despite the fact that I had never even had sex at that point. It was nothing if not incredibly painful to do the same thing over and over again, only to be told to get up and try again by the very people who would describe that as insanity in any other case. I was never once told that what I was doing wasnât working for me; instead, I was told to try harder. In all of the time I spent in the program, I was never even given the option to try something different until after quitting, when someone told me that my sexual orientation, whatever it may be, was perfectly acceptable and far from a determining factor in my ability to effectively work a program. It took years to hear that, the majority of which were spent somewhere that I definitely should have. That is not only unacceptable but they should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.
Alas, the problem I have with the program is not necessarily that theyâll never apologize to me, but that they lack the self-awareness to even consider it. When I shared my concerns about the program with one of their counselors, he dismissed them with the statement that itâs a perfect program ran by imperfect people and that I should judge them not by their actions, but by their intentions, which coincidentally, contradicts the programâs reliance on a quote from the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous that states exactly the opposite. He also told me that I was angry and resentful, despite the fact that I was neither. When I shared my concerns with another counselor, he dismissed them with the suggestion that perhaps the counseling I received, in regards to my sexual orientation, resulted from how I presented it to the staff. His feedback was not only highly insulting, but a complete bastardization of the facts. Not only was I brutally honest about that area of my life, so much that it's all I spoke of, but I was the client and it was far from my role to ensure that the counselors did their job. I was little more than a child at the time; nevertheless, the implication that my negative experiences were all my fault only served as evidence that any attempt to cooperate with the program, and convince them of the ways in which I was harmed, is futile. Why would I want to, anyway, after years of watching any criticism of the program be rationalized as the delusions of âbailed kidsâ or âdisgruntled ex-staff?â The only answer would be to prevent it from happening again, although to think that outcome is even a possibility appears naĂŻve at best. Theyâve made it abundantly clear where they stand, that theyâre right, everyone else is wrong, and thereâs no reason for them to change anything - lest of course it threatens their credibility, which in that case they only become more insidious in their transgressions.
TLDR: The program not only intrusively dictates the sex lives of their clients, but has proven itself to be particularly unloving toward those who are LGBTQIA+. It is a cultural issue that can not be reduced to a few examples of bad counseling. It is clear that they see no reason whatsoever to change this.
