she's starting to get into tarot now too, and I think I get prickly about her picking up interests I already picked up for myself (or tried to) because like. I have very very little self, between how I grew up and how sick I've been. she gets to have a career and a passion and a self and a gender and all this shit I don't. so it bugs me when she starts to step into these surface level things because I don't really. have anything else.

Warmth of Your Doorways - Chapter Four
Tumblr media
Jane Murdstone x dressmaker!Reader
A/n: In collaboration with bestie @daydream-cement and beta'd by @knives-beat-scotts-ass 🧡
Summary: Pure adoration.
Jane ducked around the back alleyway, unable to hide her growing smile as she crept closer to your workplace. To say she was smitten was an understatement. She was completely, unequivocally in love.
Marjory had told her frequently over the past three weeks that Jane seemed to be an entirely new woman. Not often was there a moment where Jane wasn’t smiling or humming to herself as she embroidered or read, her thoughts often wandering over to you and the sweet love she had for you.
Most late mornings, when she didn’t have to attend to Marjory, Jane would sneak over to your workplace for a visit, bringing you lunch and keeping you company as you sowed. More often than not, you would become fully distracted by her presence, enraptured by your conversation and affections. Recently, you had taken up increasingly feverish acts of physical affection, hands roaming and lips wandering in the most delightful manner.
Slowly, Jane unlatched the back door, ducking into the back room where the fabric was all stored. She tried to move as quietly as possible, not wanting to alert the matron of her presence. Glancing around the corner towards Mary’s office, Jane sighed in relief when the Scot was nowhere to be found.
"Darling?" Jane called out quietly, looking about for your familiar form, "little violet, where are you?"
Hearing a soft giggle to her left, she made her way into the main dressing area, pleased to find you sat on a stool, hard at work as per usual. She sighed in relief, the sight of you alone too delicious to pass up-
"I thought I told ye you could use the front door Jane. No point in sneaking about now. And a hello would be nice every once in a while."
Well. Almost alone.
"Apologies, Matron. I'll be sure to greet you sufficiently next time."
Mary laughed, a full bodied sound, whilst you rolled your eyes and tossed a pin her way.
"Leave her be Mary! Tease her too much and she may well not come back!"
Mary shot you a knowing look, picking up the pin and pointing it in your direction.
"Can't see that happening as long as you're here lass. She's smitten with you she is."
Jane shuffled, uncomfortable with being spoken about as though she weren't in the room, but hesitant to leave. You hadn't been able to visit eachother yesterday, both entirely too busy with your respective tasks, and Jane had been more than looking forward to seeing your face all morning.
"Alright alright, I can feel Jane's glare burning a hole in the side of my head, I'll be upstairs if you need anything."
Mary nodded her head in Jane's direction, Jane returning the farewell before quickly making her way to your side, dipping down to press a sweet kiss to your lips.
"I'm sorry about Mary. She really does like you, I promise. She wouldn't get after you if she didn't."
"Nevermind sweeting, I missed you too much to care much about anything else. Do you have a moment for a break?"
Your heart fluttered at her admission, and you took her hand in yours to press light kisses to each of her knuckles before responding.
"For you, my Lady, always."
Cheeks now pinked, Jane pulled you up to her and hid her face in your neck, melting into your embrace as you wrapped your arms around her and carded your fingers gently through her hair, careful not to ruffle it.
"Did you bring some lunch for yourself as well? I'd love for you to join me."
She nodded, pecking your lips before unwrapping the small lunches she'd packed, you clearing away your table and workbench to make room. The little sandwiches Jane had made were delightful, but not nearly as wonderful as spending an hour whispering sweet nothings and flirting with her. Huddled together on your workbench, you leaned your head on her shoulder, listening to a synopsis of your love’s day from yesterday.
Jane held her sandwich low, hands resting in her lap, her lips in your hair as she murmured an invitation, “Marjory is throwing a ball in a few nights… She told me to invite you to keep me company as I do not wish to attend. We could enjoy an… evening together, if you wish of course.”
“As if I could ever reject an offer from you Janey, but why do you wish to not attend?” your own question bookended with bites of your sandwich.
“I thought it would be a wonderful excuse to spend an evening with you…”
Jane’s cheeks turned pink at her own response, her attention quickly turning back to her own lunch to cover her embarrassment. As you continued eating, you only smiled at Jane’s sweet statement, mind fogging with the pure adoration for Jane.
“I would love to keep you company, darling.”
Loving silence overcame the space between Jane and you once more, her foot gently tapping yours as she chewed happily. You felt as if the past few weeks were something out of a dream. From the stolen kisses in evenings spent late in Jane’s cottage to your regular walks through the gardens, all of the love you felt from Jane was entirely unexpected, but absolutely adored.
With your sandwiches gone, you were quickly enraptured by Jane’s attention and grasp once more, her arms curling around your form, drawing you close enough for her lips to attach to your neck.
"Jane… I am still at work y'know…" you giggled, adoring the attention nonetheless. Jane merely hummed, continuing to kiss and nip at your neck, her hands wandering down to your waist to pull you even closer. Finally her lips met yours and the world spun, you needing to cling to Jane's shoulders just to stay upright. You'd barely noticed Jane's fingers quickly pulling up your skirts, exposing your ankle, then shin, then knee, her hand sliding down behind your thigh to-
"Ladies! Not in here."
Matron Mary's voice brought you both crashing back down to earth, and you nearly fell off your stool pushing back from Jane. Jane on the other hand shot Mary her finest of glares, upset at what she considered to be a rather rude intrusion.
"Y/n, you should get back to work else you'll be running behind again. Jane, you're welcome to stay but please keep it godly in here."
With a huff Mary disappeared once more, leaving behind two very flustered women. You sheepishly moved back to your stool and the dress you'd been working on, picking up the previously discarded needle to begin again.
"You… are welcome to stay Janey. But only if you'd like."
The nickname made Jane smile; oddly enough, considering if anyone else dared call her it she'd have their heads. She pulled up a cozier chair near you, settling in as she pulled a book from her bag.
"How about I read a bit to help pass the time?"
You nodded eagerly, allowing Jane's soothing tones to wash over you as you placed some finishing touches. The afternoon passed quickly this way, easing into evening where you could finally spend time wrapped in each other's arms without fear of disruption.
Jane had chosen to stay at yours, seeing as she had the following day off. While you were happy to have her with you, a thought had been nagging your brain as of late, especially after the events of this afternoon.
“I was thinking and… well, Mary might have a point, Janey…” Gently you set the tea tray on the table before Jane, your hands nervously sliding down the front of your dress. Broaching this particular subject was stressful in nature; you didn't want to seem like you were rejecting Jane’s affections, but both of your reputations could be at stake. “Our… adoration seems to be getting out of hand. A patron could have walked in and caught us at any moment and, while I have no qualms about our… lifestyle… others may not share the same views…”
Jane’s attention had been drawn from the novel in her hands, her eyes starting at your hips and hungrily climbing up your form until they reached your face. You knew the passion you held for one another should only belong to that of married couples, but the moment Jane’s lips touched yours, you lost all sense.
“Your fears are rational, my love. I can attempt to restrain myself, but even as I gaze upon you now, I know restraint will be a challenge in the future.”
“Janey…” You give a small whine, trying to hide your smile. It was hard to stay firm with her when you had never felt such adoration and care before.
The ravenette closed her book, using her index finger to mark her page while her other hand reached out, gesturing for you to come to her, “Give me all the love and attention in the world now and I’ll see if I have the capacity to contain myself in the midst of such beauty.”
Circling the table, you come to stand before Jane, her hands coming to rest on your hips. Her hands slowly turned you before winding around your waist, drawing your body against hers so you are now sitting in her lap. Soon her book was open again in front of you, her melodic voice reading out the poetry to you as she nuzzled her head against yours.
It was deep April, and the morn
Shakespeare was born;
The world was on us, pressing sore;
My love and I took hands and swore,
Against the world, to be
Poets and lovers evermore,
To laugh and dream on Lethe's shore,
To sing to Charon in his boat,
Heartening the timid souls afloat;
Of judgment never to take heed,
But to those fast-locked souls to speed,
Who never from Apollo fled,
Who spent no hour among the dead;
Continually
With them to dwell,
Indifferent to heaven and hell.
As always, Jane's voice stirred something in you, especially the deep timbre she adopted as she read aloud. Though you were want to focus on the poems, you couldn't help when your lips met the soft skin beneath her chin, then jawline, then earlobe…
"You're distracting me, little violet. How am I supposed to read like this?"
Her voice was low, but playful, and you could see her lips twitching in an attempt to hide her smirk. She tilted her head to meet your gaze, pupils nearly as blown as yours.
"Perhaps… perhaps I don't wish for you to read anymore."
"Oh? And what would you rather I do?"
Your lips met hers in a bit of a frenzy, eager to continue your activities from earlier in the day. Jane wasted no time in tossing her book to the side and wrapping her arms around your waist, shifting you to straddle her. Excited with your new position, you gently pressed your tongue to Jane's lips, silently asking permission; never one to say no to you, or this, Jane granted it, soft moans filling each other's mouths. As she had done before, she slowly lifted your skirts up, cupping the soft flesh of your thigh and making you whine; before she could move her hand any further, you placed your fingers on her wrist, halting her.
"Jane, I-"
"It's alright, dearest," Jane reassured, her breath coming in short pants, "I'm not quite ready either."
You smiled, thankful she understood. Hoping you hadn't ruined the moment entirely, you placed a gentle kiss on her lips and posed an offer.
"Would... would you like to stay the night still? I do desire to wake up to you."
“Please…” she whispered. Please with her answer, you slowly rose from her lap, pulling her by her hands so she would follow suit.
Jane was like a moth to a flame as she followed after you. She was mesmerized when your hands dropped hers and shifted to your own bodice, hands gently unfurling the laces to reveal your chemise. It was amusing how frantically (and clumsily) Jane removed her outer garments. The woman before you was tripping over herself to get into bed with you.
The ravenette was in such a rush, she noticed a fraction of a second too late that you had stopped at the edge of the bed, her body falling into yours, causing the both of you to go tumbling back on the bed.
“Oh, sweeting! I’m so-”
Jane was on the verges of frantically apologizing when you began laughing. The entire moment was far too sweet for you to ever be mad about her falling into you. At the sound of your own laugh, Jane began to laugh as well. There you laughed together, blissfully enjoying one another’s company until slumber began calling both of your names.
Your love wrapped her arms around you, gently maneuvering you to rest your head on the pillows at the top of the bed.
Never had you been this close to Jane before. It made you impossibly nervous, yet desperately in love, all at the same time. Your bodies pressed together in your small bed, the feeling of her breasts against yours was evident through the thin fabric of your undresses. But there was one thing stopping you from unraveling at the feeling of her pressed against you, and that was the view of her face.
Jane’s eyes wandered your features, slowly memorizing you from hairline to chin. Never had she expected to fall this hard or this quickly, but God save her she was hopelessly in love with you.
This level of intimacy was foreign to you, and you knew at that moment, you didn’t wish to share it with anyone other than Jane Murdstone.
Her hand gingerly reached out, tucking a few stray hairs behind your ear, her voice so fragile you thought it might break, “I love you, sweeting.”
“I love you, Janey…” You mumble, your face turning towards her hand, pressing a feather-light kiss to her palm.
You couldn’t remember how long you laid in silence, sleepily admiring one another, but at some point you had drifted off to sleep, Jane quickly following in succession after she had blown out the candles and stoked the fire to keep you warm through the night.
When Jane returned to bed, she pulled you to her chest, your head tucked under her chin. Jane’s heart swelled in her chest as she tried to fully conceptualize how much she loved you. Though she had only known you a short while, Jane couldn’t conceptualize a future without you, more so she wouldn’t think of a future without you at her side. In all her years, she had never felt so happy, so full of life.
For the first time in Jane’s life, she had the privilege of falling asleep with someone she loved endlessly.

(1) QUEEN OF PENTACLES - TEN OF CUPS - ACE OF WANDS.
I GOT A STRONG YES. WITH THE QoP BEING HERE, I CAN TOTALLY SAY THAT THE YOU'LL GET IS WILL BRING YOU ABUNDANCE BUT THIS ALSO TALKS ABOUT BUSINESS SO I'M NOT QUITE SURE IF YOU WANTED TO OPEN UP A NEW BUSINESS RATHER THAN WORKING TO OTHER PEOPLE BECAUSE YOU'LL LIKELY TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS FIELD, YOU CAN USE YOUR TALENT. WHILE I'VE GOT AoW WHICH INDICATES TO ME THAT YOU WANT TO START SOMETHING NEW ABOUT YOUR LIFE, PHYSICALLY. THIS TALKS ABOUT TOO FINDING NEW PASSION AND ACCEPTING CHALLENGES OF WHAT LIFE HAVE GIVEN TO YOU. I SEE HAPPINESS, STABILITY AND GOOD NEWS COMING THROUGH YOUR WAY. THE ARIES, SCORPIO, SAGITTARIUS, GEMINI AND VIRGO SEASONS WILL PLAY BIG PART FOR YOU BEFORE THIS YEAR ENDS.
(2) FOUR OF WANDS - PAGE OF WANDS - TEN OF WANDS - TEN OF SWORDS.
POSSIBLE BUT HOWEVER IT MAY PROBABLY NOT BECAUSE I'VE GOT TWO CARDS SAYS YES AND TWO CARDS SAY NO HERE, SO MAYBE IN SOME SORT OF AREA, THIS PERSON DON'T FIT IN WITH THE STANDARD YOU SET FROM YOUR IDEAL ONE. I SEE THAT THIS PERSON IS VERY FAMILY- ORIENTED, THEY'LL GIVE YOU THE FAMILY YOU WANTED. I THINK WITH THE PoW, THIS PERSON IS SOMEONE IS A LITTLE BIT YOUNGER OR MAY HAVE YOUTHFUL SPIRIT BUT AS FAR AS I SENSE YOU SEEMS LIKE SOMEONE WHO IS OLDER THAN YOU, THAT'S THE REASON WHY I SAID ABOVE THAT THIS PERSON IN SOME SORT OF AREA IN YOUR IDEAL ONE THEY TEND TO DON'T FIT IN AT ALL. THEIR CURRENT ENERGY IS SEEMS LIKE THEY'RE UNABLE TO COPE IN WITH LIFE, THERE'S A LOT OF STRESS, ANXIETY, FEAR, PROBLEMS, BURDENS AND OTHER NEGATIVITY HAPPENING TO THEM RIGHT NOW. IT'S JUST VERY SAD SINCE THAT THEY JUST FEEL OVERWHELMED AND UNHAPPY. THIS PERSON HAVE INSOMNIA, THEY TEND TO HAVE LACK OF SLEEPS THESE DAYS. BUT I THINK THIS IS TYPE OF PERSON THAT DOESN'T EASILY GIVE UP SINCE THEY STILL HAVE THIS FIGHTING SPIRIT WITHIN THEM. THEY HAVE MANY EXCITING PLANS FOR THEIR FUTURE, YOU MIGHT MEET THIS PERSON THROUGH ONLINE OR THROUGH COMMUNITY/SOCIAL GATHERINGS. THEIR BIRTH CHART HAVE A STRONG FIRE SIGNS PLACEMENTS WELL IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THEY DONT.
(3) KING OF PENTACLES - THREE OF SWORDS RX - TWO OF PENTACLES.
YES. I'M ABOUT TO SAY NOT REALLY WEALTHY BUT DUDE AS I SHUFFLED THE DECK THE FIRST CARD POP UP IS KING OF PENTACLES, THIS INDICATES OF SUCCESSFUL OR WEALTHY BUSINESSMAN NOT GIVING YOU ANY HIGH HOPES SINCE I JUST CASUALLY READING THE MESSAGES HERE AND I KNOW ENERGY CHANGES BUT LET SEE IF THEY WILL IN THE FUTURE. AS I SAID WITH YOUR TWO QUESTIONS ABOVE, THIS PERSON CURRENT ENERGY IS FUCKED UP RIGHT NOW BUT THEY WILL OVERCOME THIS PAIN WHICH IS GOOD FOR THEM. THEY AREN'T PERFECT BUT THIS PERSON WILL TRY EVERYTHING JUST TO BETTERING THEMSELVES. THEY MIGHT INVEST MONEY INTO SOME SORT OF ORGANIZATION AND THEY MIGHT LOSS OR CAN GET SCAM SO THEY NEED TO WATCH OUT THAT. THIS PERSON IS THE ONE WILL HELP YOU WITH YOU TO HAVE STABLE AND SECURE FINANCIAL STABILITY, THEY'RE THE ONE WHO'LL TRYING TO FIND BALANCE FOR YOU AND THEM. EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE TYPICALLY TYPE OF OF SOMEONE WHO IS NOT A RISK TAKER BUT THEY WILL BE A GREAT PROVIDER.

Captain Magnum x gender neutral!reader
@rattyships ty for the request!
A/N: YES the title is a quote, YES it's from That One Song™, YES I based this fic off of that idea, leave me alone. Uh... Christmas. Yeah. Captain Magnum seems way too calm in this fic for my own liking, but y'know. Reader can paint even though I am physically unable to, so. There's that. Fluffy. Rated PG because there's one two "hell"s and one "damn" and that's it. It's cheesy and that's why it's great.
Word Count: 2.0k
--
You paced around your cabin, very anxious. Christmas was in three days! What were you supposed to get everyone? You didn't know what anyone liked! Or that they even celebrated…
Well, who says no to a gift, right?
You went over to your secret chest (nobody on that damn ship knew how to share) and opened it up to see how much treasure you had. Not much, but it was there. You could buy a lot in normal markets with these. Maybe you could convince the Captain to take you back home for the holidays?
Well, you never know until you try, right?
But what would you buy? They have quite enough gold and jewels, none of them seem to have any interest in anything, you doubted they'd like something homemade…
This was gonna be difficult.
You sighed and closed your chest, walking over to your door. You opened it to find said Captain standing there, the rest of the crew behind him.
"Hi, Captain," you blinked in surprise. You probably should have been more confused than you were, but this boat was already super weird. He was smiling at you.
"Mornin', first mate!" He greeted. "We found a treasure map on a ship we were lootin'. We're about t' start searchin' fer treasure!"
"Oh. Alright. Gimme a minute," you smiled and closed the door. You sighed and rested your back on the door. Maybe you could find something on the island to give them…?
"Yeah, they'll love a nice flower crown…" You snorted at your own idea. You sighed and grabbed up your stuff, opening your door and walking over to the crew. They were all talking about how they couldn't wait to find more treasure. You rolled your eyes. Don't they have enough of it? You took a head count of how many of them there were. Five… five crewmates, five presents. Captain Magnum noticed you and smiled.
"Thar ye be! I thought ye would lock yourself in yer cabin th' whole day!" He, along with the rest of the crew, laughed. You smiled saltily. "Wha' were ye doin' in thar?" You looked around, trying to come up with something.
"Um… I was… I was…" you looked out onto the horizon for a moment, your eyes softening. The crew looked at you.
"Y/N?" One of them called to you. "Are ye-"
"Painting," you interrupted.
"What?" Magnum asked.
"I was… painting…" you looked back to them. They all stared at you for a minute.
"You… you paint?" One woman asked. You smiled and nodded at her. All of the crewmates looked at each other for a minute.
"Uh… wha' d' ye paint?" The other woman asked. You shrugged.
"Whatever, really. Animals, landscapes, whatever's in my room…" you looked over at Captain Magnum to make sure this was okay. He sighed and plopped himself down on a stair. You smiled and turned back to the group.
--
You explained painting to the crew for 15 minutes. You had no idea they'd be so interested in your hobby. They asked so many questions, some of which you'd somehow never heard. How long had these people been at sea?
Eventually, you looked over to see Captain Magnum looking impatiently at the island the ship landed at 10 minutes ago. You chuckled at him and stood up.
"Captain's getting a bit annoyed, guys. Let's go," the crew complained, but got off of the ship as you walked over to the Captain. He raised an eyebrow at you and you mimicked the action.
"They find ye mighty interestin'," he commented. You smiled.
"Yeah. Not more than you though. I doubt anything could be more interesting than those logs you have for legs." You both looked at each other for a moment before laughing. He stood and you both followed the crew off of the ship.
He lead the way to where the treasure was, the rest of you trailing close behind. One of the crewmates, a boy who looked no older than twenty-one, took your arm. You raised both eyebrows and looked at him.
"So… wha' were ye sayin' about watercolors?" He asked softly. You smiled as the other crew members gathered around you again. You looked up at Captain Magnum, who was smiling at you all. He chuckled and turned back around, continuing to lead the way. You sighed.
"Alright… so watercolor is probably one of the most well-known types of paint…"
--
You had found treasure on the island, and most of the crewmates became interested in that, but the boy who has asked you about watercolors stayed as you explained how people originally made paints from flowers. You saw the curious look in his eyes, and decided what you were gonna get everyone for Christmas.
You were gonna paint for them.
What, you weren't sure. But you sure as hell were gonna paint. Maybe… their favorite animals? Or maybe an object they really liked…
You decided to ask them what they liked.
The woman with the bandana really liked sea creatures. Specifically, narwhals. They were very pretty and could also impale people. She liked that about them. You didn't think she noticed you scribbling everything she said into a small notebook.
The woman with the eyepatch really liked swords. She knew a lot about them; names, origins, uses… it was slightly unnerving, but you couldn't judge.
The boy liked plants. He liked the fact that they were living beings, just like people and animals. Only, they were smaller and couldn't talk. They could, however, feel. And he liked that. You couldn't get over how soft he was…
The man who was first mate before you liked… hats. He liked that they all basically had the same function, but looked so different. You could respect that. Hats were very cool.
The next day, you decided to paint them pictures of their favorite things in their respective color schemes, and added a different color for each background. A blue and white narwhal with a green background, a red and black sword with a navy blue background, a black and orange flower with a dark green background, and a brown and maroon hat with a pastel red background (no, not pink. There's a difference). You spent an entire day painting the pictures. They turned out very well, in your opinion. You just hoped the crew felt the same.
After you were finished with those, you asked Captain Magnum what his favorite thing was. He thought for a moment, stroking his beard.
"Well… I suppose it'd be treasure!" He answered. You knitted your eyebrows together.
"Really? Treasure?" You asked, hoping for something more.
"O' course, treasure! I be a pirate aft all! Wha' would I like if it nah be treasure?" You sighed in slight disappointment. You thought that you would find something new about him but, nope. He loves treasure the most. You nodded and turned around.
"Well, that or ye." You stopped dead in your tracks. Did you hear that right? You slowly turned back towards him. He looked away from you, towards the horizon. The setting sun illuminated his face, tinting it orange, pink, and yellow. He looked like he was ripped right from a movie...
"What was that?" You asked, slightly distracted by how beautiful he looked.
"Treasure be a pirate's fav'rit thin' o' course. But, since ye showed up... I reckon me fav'rit "thin'" be me first mate. Ye." He said nonchalantly. A small smile creeped onto your face. Magnum looked at you, since you hadn't said anything in a while.
"So, you're saying… you love me?" You asked, fishing for compliments. Magnum flushed a bit. It was mostly hidden due to the sun, but you could still see.
"Well… er…" He scratched the back on his head, thinking of how to respond.
"Cause that's what I'm hearing here…"
"Um…"
"Exactly how much do you love me, Captain?" You smirked, leaning on the side of the ship, your cheek in your palm. Magnum finally took a deep breath and looked in your eyes.
"More than all th' treasure in all th' seven seas…" he stated. Your eyes widened as your smirk fell. You felt your face heat up and you turned away from him.
"Well, uh…" you coughed, "I should… get to bed… wanna be up early tomorrow, so…" you shuffled away.
"First Mate Y/N!" He called. You turned back towards him.
"Merry Christmas." He said. You smiled.
"Merry Christmas, Captain."
--
You walked into the deck, the crew already gathered. You figured Magnum must've gotten them. You took a deep breath and walked over, the paintings in your arms. The crew all waved and greeted you. You smiled and stood in front of them.
"So, uh… it's Christmas as you may or may not know…" you explained nervously. "So, um… I decided that, as gifts, I was going to paint for you all… and these were the results." You move forward and pass out all the works you painted. All of the crew seemed happy with their pictures. They showed them to each other and gawked over the detail and bragged about how good they looked. You finally walked up to Magnum, who was steering. You held out a painting to him.
"Wha', fer me?" He raised his eyebrows and took the picture. It was of a red, blue, yellow, and black ship with a sunset in the background and sparkling green and blue waves. The words "a pirate's life for me" were written on the back. He laughed heartily and pulled you into a hug.
"Oh, ye really outdid yourself, mate! 'tis wonderful!" He complimented. You managed to pull yourself out of the hug after a minute or two and handed him an envelope. He looked over at the rest of the crew and, upon seeing that no one else had one, tilted his head a bit.
"It's from her," You explained, pointing. Magnum nodded and looked over at the woman who was showing off her narwhal. She glanced at the Captain and winked as the boy with the flower painting giggled. Magnum plopped down onto a step, but you stayed standing. He opened the envelope to reveal a card. On the inside, it said "This thing you two have is special, more special than anything I could try to get. I can, however, make you realize exactly what you have". You frowned.
"What's that supposed to mean?" You asked. Magnum shrugged and gave you the envelope. You looked inside, seeing something green. You took it out and your eyes widened.
Mistletoe.
Mistletoe?
Where the hell did they find mistletoe?!
You looked at Captain Magnum, who was staring at you. He raised both eyebrows at the plant in your hand. You were holding it between you two accidentally (on purpose).
"We don't 'ave t' if ye don't wants t'..." He told you. You took a deep breath, telling yourself to stop being so weird about it because you knew he loved you back. Besides, the crew had all left to put their gifts in their rooms. You leaned down, since he was sitting, and softly connected your lips. He sat there for a moment, eyes wide, before closing them. You both stayed like that for a few seconds before you pulled away all too soon. His eyes looked hazy as you smiled.
"Merry Christmas." You whispered and walked to your room, leaving Magnum to process what happened.
You entered your room and leaned your back on the door, smiling widely.
"Well, that was the best Christmas present ever…" you mumbled to yourself. You started to giggle as you continued to think about it. You put your hands on your face in embarrassment. It was only a couple seconds, why were you being so weird? You jumped a bit when you heard a gentle knock at your door. You turned around and tilted your head. Who could that be? It was getting late and the crew had already shown their appreciation…
Unless…
You opened the door to reveal, you guessed it, Captain Magnum. He was holding the mistletoe you had left on the deck. You looked at him and raised an eyebrow. He smiled.
"Do ye... Uh... Wanna do that again?" He asked sheepishly. You laughed a bit before smiling up at him.
"Absolutely."

Werewolf!Haz x Reader
Word count: 2100+
Summary: When a random encounter puts the possibility of love on Harrison’s plate will he take it or will a supernatural problem leave you both with broken hearts.
Warnings: Smut in future chapters?
Tumblr media
(Huge thank you and shout out to @hazssouthernbelle for the beautiful mood board)
A/N: I really hate posting something so long without a cut. Apologizing in advance but my laptop is useless currently and I’m to impatient not to post this. Sorry, not sorry (but maybe just a little).
Moonbeams and Ridinghoods: Chapter 1
There was something profoundly relaxing about grocery shopping in the early hours of the morning, like a salve for frayed nerves it helped you relax when seeming nothing else could. Thanks to the advent of 24hr shops you could leave work looking like a hot mess and not only avoid the crowds, but also the looks your bedraggled appearance was bound to get. Minimal make-up, scrubs, and messy buns went hand in hand with working in the emergency room.
Your shift had run long. A nasty MVA had taken the better part of the night between coding the drunk that had caused it and stabilizing the passengers, it had been physically and emotionally taxing. The cries of the four year old boy who’d been secured in the backseat still rang in your ears. It was his blood that had gotten on your scrub top as you tried to calm him and pick glass out of his dark mop of hair. He was the reason you had a bottle of wine in the cart next to your microwave dinner. Also Probably the reason you couldn’t remember anything else you’d planned to pick up. At this point you were really just pushing the cart around to decompress because you knew there was no way you’d be getting to sleep anytime soon. You were not a fan of bringing work home with you but some things were harder to compartmentalize than others.
A random container of pumpkin spice coffee creamer finds its way into your cart settling next to the bottle of wine. Twas the season for all things PSL, being condemned to basic bitchhood be damned. You tuck your hands into the sleeves of the lucky red hoodie you’ve had since nursing school. The overly long cuffs cover everything but the pink lacquered tips of your fingers. It helped you stave off some of the chill in the air and, more importantly, hid whatever stains your scrubs had picked up.
Leaning your forearms on the handhold of the cart you shuffle around, poking through the deli selection before heading back towards the butcher department. You roll to a stop behind a guy in grey sweats and trainers studying the selection as if preparing for a test. He’s hunched over a section of steaks, looking them over as he throws just about every other one he picks up in his cart.
He’s pretty. You know it even before you see his face. He’s put together well, his tight black t-shirt shows off a muscular set of shoulders and strong arms, while the sweats he’s wearing give you an excellent view of a really good looking ass. You’re almost not embarrassed when he turns to look at you. Almost. A shy smile crosses his face and you just know he caught you looking.
“‘Ello” He offers politely pushing his loaded cart forward just a little, allowing you peruse his leftovers. There honestly wasn’t a much left.
“Hungry?”
The question seems to catch him off guard, “Excuse me?”.
With an open hand you gesture toward the basket. “You may as well have just bought a whole steer.” You observe with a smile, “you doing Keto or paleo or something?”
His blonde head cocks to the side giving you a curious grin. He’s got beautiful blue eyes that crinkle at the corners as he smiles. It’s a really nice smile too and leaves butterflies fluttering in your stomach.
“Something like that.” He offers with a shrug as he straightens. “Not from around here are you?”
“It’s the accent, isn’t it?” Of course the American accent was the first thing he’d hear. “Or is it unheard of to question someone when they’ve bought an entire side of beef.”
“Can I say both?”
You can’t help but laugh.
“What brings you to London?” He continues.
“I’m doing contract work at the hospital.” You explain. He takes a step closer and you have to tip your chin to keep your eyes on his. The shyness from moments ago seems to be gone and the smile he offers you is one you wouldn’t hesitate to classify as “panty dropping”. It’s confident and entirely too appealing. You glance down at your hands, you can feel your cheeks warming and you fidget with the cuffs of your sleeves for a moment before you collect yourself and glance back up at him.
“I’m Harrison” he offers.
Your hand juts out and he takes his. his grip is firm as you tell him your name.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you y/n.” He chuckles but quickly apologizes, “sorry about that but with that on” he points to your hoodie, “you look more like little red riding hood.”
Leaning forward conspiratorially you can’t help the flirtatious tone in your voice. “Does that make you the big bad wolf?”
Harrison barks out a laugh. “Maybe so”. It’s an odd comment but you ignore it, choosing to focus on the pearly white teeth he’s flashing you.
You bite your tongue to keep from making a cheeky comment.
The pair of you meander slowly, side by side back toward the check out. You’d taken the long way, traveling up and down the isles. Harrison had added a few things to his cart and you had thought about a box or Lucky Charms but changed your mind last minute. “Won’t pair well with wine.” You’d explained when your grocery buddy had raised a brow.
It had been said by your parents that you’d never met a stranger and Harrison was no different. You enjoyed chatting with him as you walked around.
“This has been really nice.” You murmur as the self check out comes into view.
Harrison raises a brow in your direction.
“I mean, I haven’t really met anyone outside of work yet and it’s been kind of…” You trail off, embarrassed.
“Lonely?” You look up at him and are struck by something in his eyes, a certain understanding? It makes your chest tighten and your mouth go dry. You’re nothing but strangers but you feel the beginnings of a connection begin to weave themselves together. It’s crazy though, right? You laugh despite yourself. It was just work stress and lack of sleep. That was all. Harrison looks at you appraisingly as you each take a separate check out and start scanning your purchases.
“I think that sums it up pretty well.” You admit after a moment of silence. You’d left his question unanswered for so long that it takes him a moment to circle back to what you've been talking about. He hums his understanding as you swipe your card and take your meager bag. You watch him load four bags of his own up, much more full than you’d ever dare a plastic bag to take, certainly more than you’d attempt to carry in one go. Harrison loads then into the cart as if they weigh nothing.
“So...uh...it was nice talking to you.” You manage to work out with a smile.
“Think you already said that.” He teases as you roll your eyes. You both head through the sliding glass doors into the crisp air. It’s a cloudless night and the moon is glowing brightly.
“Nearly full.” You note looking up into the sky, missing the stars canceled out by the light pollution of the city.
“Two days.” He says agreeably. “Where are you parked. I’ll walk you to your car.”
Harrison’s eyes narrow as you shrug, “My place isn’t too far away. I’m good to walk.” You swear you hear a low rumble come from him before he speaks.
“M’not letting you walk home by yourself in the dark. Come on, I'm over here.” He says motioning to a sporty black coupe a row over.
“I appreciate the offer but I’m good really. I’m not about to inconvenience anyone.”
“Really, Little Red,” his voice holds a sternness that makes goosebumps rise along your arms, “the inconvenience would be having to follow you in the car while you walk. Not sure where you hail from but this is not somewhere pretty girls walk alone at night.” He crosses his arms over his chest and while you still feel like you’re being lectured you can’t help but admire the muscles in his forearms as they move. “You have two options, I give you a ride or I tail you the whole way.”
“You’re serious aren’t you?”
“Absolutely.” He confirms. His stern expression turns smug as you begin to walk toward the car.
“I swear to God, if you murder me I’m going to be so pissed.”
Harrison can’t believe what he’s hearing. “You’re fucking with me, yeah? That’s nearly 8 blocks away? And you were going to walk it?”
You shrug again from his passenger seat. The traffic lights clip by as you look out the window, Harrison watch the light illuminate and darken over your figure.
“I’d be fine.”
“You’d be mugged.” He corrects and you huff out a dark laugh. “I’m serious. Promise me you won’t attempt that.”
You turn in the passenger seat and he’s caught like a deer in the headlights in the warmth of your eyes. They sparkle with mischief and he finds he’s completely unable (or unwilling) to look away.
The scent of you is surrounding him in the closed quarters and he fights off the urge to inhale deeply and take the essence of you into his lungs. So close to a full moon Harrison found his senses, those instinctual parts of him became magnified. The scent of you stirred up a flurry of reactions he’d never had. Maybe that was why he’d kept close to you in the shop or why he had all but demanded you allow him to drive you home. He felt protective like he’d only ever felt for the rest of the pack. When he’d think about it later it was sure to confuse him but, for now, he let himself enjoy the nearness and the strange feelings.
“So does this mean you’re going to be my own personal Uber?” You tease lightly, biting at your lower lip in a way he has a hard time pulling his gaze away from.
“If it means you won’t be so reckless? Yes. A thousand times. I’ll program my number in your phone and everything.”
You’re still biting your lip as he swings into a parallel parking space in front of your flat. It wasn’t the worst part of town but it certainly could have been better. You thank him softly and turn to get out. He takes the opportunity with your back turned to pull that one deep breath he’s been dying to take, he can smell old blood dried on your clothes, the laundry soap you’d used, the soft scent of lavender from your shampoo, and underneath it all something that was so you he couldn’t put a name to it.
You’ve got one foot out the door before you turn back and jam your phone in his face. Harrison’s eyes widen as he stares at the unlocked contact screen.
“Don’t be a scaredy-cat.” You challenge “you said you’d do it.” He can see a faint blush on your cheeks as you push on with false bravado.
“I thought I was the big bad wolf.” It’s a bad joke and you don’t get it but he can’t help himself. Tom, Harry, Maybe even Tom’s girl, Emily, will find the humor in it when he tells them about it later.
“Prove it.” You challenge, looking tiny in that cherry red hoodie. “Don’t be a pussy.” You prod. It's about the cutest thing he’s seen in ages.
Fucking Yanks. An Abnormally friendly lot. Maybe not something he was used to but he really liked how you’d been the one to come up to him earlier. Usually this close to a change people tended to avoid him. You didn’t even seem to flinch and had even gone as far as to bat those pretty eyes at him. It was a nice change of pace.
Without a second hesitation he takes your phone and adds his own information, he barely takes his eyes off of you as he does and you hold his stare for a respectable few seconds before blushing harder and looking away.
Bloody cute.
He hands the cell back and you hit send, waiting until you hear his ring before disconnecting.
“Had to keep you honest.” You explain before climbing out of the car, bottle of wine sloshing in the small bag you carried. “Thanks for the ride, Harrison.”
Haz gives you a small wave and watches you till your in your door. You glance back over your shoulder before you go in and give him a small wave with the tips of your fingers. He can’t help the silly grin that crosses his face. Yeah, Tom was going to find this whole thing hilarious.
