And he feels the same!

I'm almost done I swear! Ghostface Kills

Chapter 7 - Unlucky

Rain stood in his old and empty room, just reminiscing on the times before the rebellion. Regret and remorse loomed over him as he remembered all the times growing up in this room studying for his classes. Especially the time he beat Floyd in becoming High Mage. a knock at the door broke Rain’s train of thought, he turned and opening the door he sees Smoke.

Smoke enters the room closing the door behind him. The two stood in silence for what felt like hours before Rain broke the silence “how are you feeling? I heard about your brothers”. Smoke took a sigh of breath and responds “I’m…not ok mentally but I need to focus on taking down this Ghostface” Smoke responded before adding “I won’t let him hurt anyone else” smoke holds rain’s hand “especially you…”. Rain cracked a smile at smoke before leaning in close “I won’t let Ghostface hurt you to”

Smoke smiled back before adding “if you were to live with me in earthrealmer…I honestly think you would’ve loved Scream” rain covered his face, not knowing what smoke means but he somehow understands “however not this Ghostface, this one is evil- well they’re all evil but this one in particular” smoke goes on but rain cuts him off with a peck. Smoke pauses before kissing rain back just as the door to the room opens.

“What’s going on!?” Mileena looked confused. Rain quickly pulled away and looked at Mileena “Empress! I can explain-“ rain tries to speak but Mileena shushes him “just come to the throne room, I don’t want anyone by themselves for safety..” Mileena walks off. Rain looked at smoke, his face red. Smoke held Rain’s hand again “let’s go”

Back at the throne room, Kitana speaks with Li-Mei “With the Umgadi and us, I don’t think it’ll be enough to take down this Ghostface considering they’re a Titan now but from stories form Liu Kang it is possible” she looks into Li-Mei’s eyes “I need you and one other to try and get Hotaru and his refugees fighting on our side, Nitara is in talks with her realm for help so in the mean time you and someone else will go see Hotaru”. Li-Mei looks back and says “I’ll take Baraka with me, we’ll both leave on 10” she says. Baraka walks in “make it 5, I’m ready when you are”. Li-Mei nods and turns to Kitana “we’ll leave now”

Li-Mei and Baraka leaves, Raiden walked in and looked at Kitana “is there anything I can do to help?” Raiden asked. Kitana shook her head “as of right now no” Kitana noticed Raiden’s eyes looked puffy “you ok?” She walked over to him. “Y-yeah….no it’s just I’m scared for the first time in my life..like genuinely scared” Raiden said. Kitana gives Raiden a hug “we’ll get through this”

Some time passes and both Li-Mei and Baraka had just arrived at the Seido refugee camp while Seido gets rebuilt. Baraka looks at Li-Mei “I don’t think I should go in, since I have Tarkat I don’t want to infect others”. Li-Mei looked at him “you alright to be out here by yourself?” She asked. Baraka extended his arm blades “I’ll be fine” he says. Li-Mei nodded before walking into the camp. After a few minutes she arrived at Hotaru’s tent. “Hotaru! It’s Li-Mei! We must speak urgently” Li-Mei called out. The tent opens and Hotaru lets Li-Mei in.

“Before you speak, I heard rumours of the royal house working together with the two who destroyed Seido…is that correct?” Hotaru asked almost instantly as the two sat down. Li-Mei nodded but added “it’s only until we can take down this Ghostface Killer” Li-Mei is then silenced by Hotaru’s next words “no, you can go now”. Li-Mei continued “we need your help, most of the earthrealmer champion and some of us were killed already. We need all the allies we can get” Hotaru shook his head “no, now leave or I’ll have you escorted out”. Li-Mei sighs before leaving.

Li-Mei walks back to the entrance of the camp to see Baraka “Hotaru refused, let’s go”. Baraka looked at Li-Mei “let me talk to him” he said but Li-Mei responds “won’t you get others sick?” And Baraka responds “then you push them out the way”. Baraka and Li-Mei walk back through the camp and back to Hotaru’s tent. Baraka walks in only to stop in his track.

Hotaru was gutted. His eyes gouged out and in his hands. Baraka looked at Li-Mei who looked back at him “we need to go now!”. Both run out of the tent and out of the camp.

Both Baraka and Li-Mei run through the forest heading back to the royal house but suddenly both of them gets teleported into what seemed like a mansion. Baraka and Li-Mei quickly looked around with only one goal in mind and that is to get out of there.

“This has to be Ghostface toying with us” Baraka exclaimed. Li-Mei nodded “let’s find a way out of here” she said “or kill then” Baraka replied. Baraka and Li-Mei begins to try and open the door but it wouldn’t budge. Even with Baraka’s strength it wouldn’t move. Meanwhile up the stairs from behind, Ghostface was pushing a large piano to the edge of the stairs slowly. With a last huff Ghostface pushed the piano off.

Pushing or Pulling the door wasn’t working as the two groaned loudly from exhaustion. Baraka noticed some crashing sounds getting closer and louder. Turning his head he quickly pushed Li-Mei out the way but sadly not in time to save himself. Li-Mei falls onto the ground just as the loudest crash is head next to her ear. She holds her head as her ears began ringing. Looking up at the chaos she sees the destroyed piano and Baraka’s crushed head…dead instantly “no…”

Li-Mei noticed the door was now open so she runs out. Ghostface chases after her as the two ran in the dark woods. Li-Mei noticed she must be in earthrealm as the scenery and air was completely different to Outworld. Ghostface catches up to Li-Mei before stabbing her in the chest from behind. Ghostface stabbed again and again before Li-Mei turned around and snatched the mask off Ghostface. Seeing ghostface’s face li-mei coughed out “w-who are you?”

Ghostface snatched the mask back “your nightmare” they snapped their fingers. Li-Mei gets transported back to Outworld but she realised she was stabbed in the lung deeply. Tanya spots Li-Mei as she calls for help. Li-Mei snatches a pencil and paper from a table and quickly began to draw. Tanya rushed over as Li-Mei spoke out “give this to the…empress…it’s who’s under…the….mas…..” Li-Mei slowly closed her eyes.

Tanya looked at the drawing, it was rushed but it’s clear who’s under the mask but not a name yet.

I think the issue with Mat ending is that Mat doesn't stop being ta'veren at the end of the books. I don't think that's said in canon? But Perrin and Rand get to essentially live their own lives, responsabilities as a lord (P) or lover and father to a royal lineage (R) besides. But Mat, he's still expected to affect the pattern large scale with the Seanchan, and if Sanderson (I think it was him extrapolating?) floating the Tuon as Ta'veren post canon idea was taken into account.... Mat is just in the middle of the next grand issue/conflict after being in the middle of this whole book series too. So he doesn't get a happy ending-ish, he gets even more work. Which you've said already >< Could that been really circumvented in the books if he was going to end with Tuon anyways, though? Even if she weren't as she's in canon, and on board with dismantling the damane system and learning to channel by the ending, she's the Empress of a continent in caos and the work to change the culture and end slavery in Seandar the work of a lifetime riffle with danger and vital to the future. So I think Mat would end up still very much with a high pile of work (not that the other mains don't have also lots of responsability postcanon), but he and Tuon would still be needed to prevent the next big evil of imperialism I guess. It'd be a more optimist ending if Tuon and Mat were truly thinking along the same ways though. As of canon it seems truly thankless.

If there was a sense that Mat and Tuon were genuine PARTNERS in the upcoming changes of the Empire, then I feel like the whole thing would have a vastly different vibe for me. As it is, Tuon feels a lot more like the warden of his jail cell, which is... not a vibe I like in a romance, lol.

But, yeah, also the idea that Perrin and Rand are going to get to blissfully live out lives of peace is kinda ridiculous in a world where the Seanchan remain an active threat. Is Rand seriously going to just keep wandering the roads while Elayne, Aviendha, and Min are all experiencing the major stressors of potentially being involved in a continent-wide war? (because the Seanchan Empire is already breaking the Dragon's Peace in the epilogue by kidnapping channelers off the battlefield, so there IS going to be a war) That does not pass the sniff test. I do not believe he's capable of ignoring when three people that we are told he is in love with are all in great danger.

A happenstance meeting on Neomuna

"It's supposed to heal and empower, or something, I'll get it right if I sit long enough." Freija and Sunny studied the worn cloth thoughtfully as the Guardian circled the meditation room idly. The cloth had been so much the center of meditation that the item itself hardly continued to exist under its idea impressed into reality by so many paracausal forces.

The Hall of Heroes usually emptied out at certain times of day, especially meal times, so only a few Guardians still floated around. Freija didn't intend to fight at all, and as such had worn only civvies and a survivor's epitaph. It made her feel like a hunter.

"The idea of fighting under a banner is based around uniting for a cause or people or purpose," Sunny pointed out. "You'll need to pull on a memory of working with Rise or maybe other Sunbreakers. Those times the others were waiting on you to lead the charge."

"I haven't been in the crucible much, I should get back in there..."

"Sunny."

Ghost and Guardian looked to to see Empress Caiatl standing in the doorway.

'Caiatl! I'm glad to see you!" Sunny sang, flying over to circle once before returning to Freija's side. "There's been an unlock, we were trying to attune."

Caiatl nodded shortly, but as they waited for her to say something, she instead froze with her feet and shoulders oddly fixed.

"You're really this out of practice with informality," observed Freija. "Sunny, go walk with her. I'm gonna take forever with this and we know it." Rather than sit at the table with the incense, Freija went to the cushions under the tree where she slouched with the banner in hand. "Good to see you, Empress."

Sunny crossed the room no sooner than she was addressed, but Caiatl remained still for several more moments before she caught up with herself and went to the door.

"I do not believe I've seen your Guardian out of her armor," Caiatl mumbled. "She is even smaller than I thought."

Sunny giggled as she worked the petals on her Wishmaker shell. "Oh? We've worn some of the smaller pieces, I'm sure of it, but I suppose you wouldn't have seen them. How are you? You sound tired."

"The war efforts weigh," she rumbled. "I am grateful for the Vanguard's help."

"I've always felt it was a little unfair, expecting anyone else to fight alongside us when they die and we don't," Sunny admitted.

"We fight and die with honor. But I do not want them to die senselessly. Suicide is fruitless. Even for Guardians." She huffed grumpily and her step faltered. Sunny slowed, leading her to also slow, and the Ghost looked for a seat. "I have been reflecting upon our meeting."

"Oh?" Sunny asked.

"You were quite brave to approach me after finding out what happened."

The Ghost drifted side to side. "... oh yeah, I suppose I should have wanted to avoid you."

"I thank you."

"For what? Making friends?"

"Offering your help."

"You're welcome! I'm glad you tried to have me killed!" Sunny giggled chipperly and bounced around the golden helm. "Sorry you had to learn the hard way!"

"Indeed," Caiatl muttered. She sighed heavily and she lurched forward, a dogged determination joining the heavy slog in her pace. "I have made another bad call," she explained. "I learn from my mistakes and remember well that they are learning opportunities. They can come at an extremely high cost."

A rounded bench against a wall appeared at a length of plants and Caiatl lumbered past. Sunny stopped to look at the plant holograms, taking long enough for Caiatl to notice, return, and eventually sit heavily. "That you were here is... unfortunate and fortunate," she rumbled, watching Sunny drift into view. "I am not pleased to see a stark reminder of another mistake, even one that turned out well," she sighed first, but the tusks drifted low as she watched the Ghost roll her petals patiently. "I am glad to see a friend."

"I'm glad I can be a comfort," Sunny managed, only just stopping herself from saying sorry about her bad decisions. Rather than say more, she "sat" with Caiatl, keeping in the corner of her eye as they looked over the plants and virtual cat lingering amongst them.

"I do miss my old advisor," Caiatl admitted. She took her helmet off and placed it on the display behind her, then sat back again, apparently relaxing.

Sunny wanted to say something but couldn't think of anything. Normally she would force it, but Caiatl had gotten the benefit of being quiet to sink in; so she hovered in silent solidarity alongside her friend.

"Hey, Sunny Sunb--oh. Are you okay?" Freija interrupted the pair as she leaned down the hallway, then trotted toward them. "Shitty... previous timeframe?" she asked Caiatl semi-casually. She placed a hand on her arm without thinking, then withdrew. "Sorry."

"I do not mind," Caiatl replied, voice remaining sad and flat.

Freija looked up at Caiatl's face and suddenly seemed to notice the lack of helm; then glanced down and flinched as if she found herself naked. She smiled awkwardly at Sunny and redirected to the Empress, all embarrassment forgotten. "Are you okay, though? Can I do anything to help?" She absently placed her hand on Caiatl's arm yet again. A pulse stemmed from her and rolled over the space, green threads in the walls vibrating as if strummed by the energy, holographic plants waving in an artificial wind.

"What is that?" Caiatl asked, blinking at the blue hand on her arm.

Freija again removed her hand, but another beat pulsed through the span of hallway. "Uh. Apparently it's what I needed to get the idea of the war banner through my head. Is it helping at all?"

Caiatl blinked the golden eyes at the Guardian as if confused. "Somewhat. This mastery of the Light and Darkness is innate?"

Freija opened her mouth, then closed it thoughtfully before she spoke. "Do you want me to let you get distracted asking questions or do you want to sit and not talk for a little while? And did you want me to fuff- go away?"

Caiatl watched Freija as if waiting for something, then slowly sat back and breathed slow and deep. "Thank you, Guardian."

Freija nodded cheerfully and patted the Empress's arm before she sat next to her, on the other side from Sunny, looking comically small next to the enormous pauldron as she fiddled with the green cloth on her hand. Only the Darkness ripples disturbed the peace and quiet of the hallway, pulsing small and slow around the Guardian.

Eventually, the Empress sat up straight and rolled her shoulders. Freija watched from the corner of her eyes, as if waiting for something.

Caiatl stretched, flexing impressively, and peered under an elbow at the Guardian. "You look very small without your pauldrons," she remarked. The empress then rose to her feet and put on her helm before turning to face Freija.

"Your head is a fifth the size of your helmet," Freija replied, smiling mischievously. Despite the smile, the Awoken rocked close to the wall and pulled a leg and arm up a few inches, as if preparing to defend herself.

Caiatl paused for several moments as she considered her next action. Freija watched warily, curling a shoulder and more obviously preparing to deflect an attack. Caiatl checked up and down the hall and stood up straight. Freija almost relaxed before the Uluran lifted a foot, gently placed it on the bench next to the Guardian, and briskly shoved her sideways to the floor. Freija squeaked, barely able to smooth out the clumsy landing that left her sprawled.

Caiatl lumbered away without saying anything, but clearly off her usual gait-- Sunny knew the stiffness to be holding a laugh.

"I thought you said you weren't trying to make friends with me!" Freija cried from the floor, making a show of dragging herself to her feet and brushing herself off. "We're friends now, you don't get to shove me around without being my friend!"

Caiatl still didn't answer, except for a single hand waved to one side before she vanished around a turn in the corridor.

Sunny bobbed over to Freija. "What happened with the banner?"

Freija fiddled with the worn Titan sigil woven in. The pulse beat faster but smaller with the change in mood. "I found the sense of camaraderie I was missing," she explained, looking to Sunny. "Had the morale and even the healing but had to be around an ally that needed help to feel it. I was just looking for you, could maybe talk about it and get it there. She just happened to need it."

Sunny nudged Freija's cheek gently with an extended petal. "I hope it helped, but I think she just needed the time. She might have liked the idea that you wanted to help enough to break you through a new healing power, she seemed to. What's it supposed to do in combat?"

"Same thing, just bigger and stronger," she said with a shrug. "Apparently it's been manifesting as a staff on people's heads and backs and stuff. I hope I actually get a flag or something."

"What if.. I.. gave up!"

"Valeria, what?" Bedelia looks at the rebellion leader, confused. "Why are you saying that?"

"Child soldiers, Bedelia!" Valeria swims over and grips her second-in-command's shoulders. "The empire has child shoulders — they're fucking 15!" The fins on the sides of her face lower. "15..."

Bedelia looks at Valeria with a frown. "I know, but those two are safe with us now. We'll start treating Celeste and see what Lexi knows."

The rebellion leader sighs, closing her eyes. "Yeah, that.. that sounds good." She releases the other's shoulders and looks at her apologetically. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have gotten so overworked."

"It's okay!" The SIC shakes her head. She giggles a bit. "Just surprising to see you the nervous one."

Valeria nods. "I know.. It's just.. heartbreaking. Learning the extent of the brainwashing that's been done to these poor children."

Bedelia nods in agreement, but before she can get another word out, a siren is swimming up to them, his eyes wide. "Valeria! Bedelia! You need to head to Ghost's Crag now!"

"Why?" The two are instantly on high alert. "What's happened? Did someone fall in?"

"No!" The siren shakes his head. "I-Its worse! There's a group of people trapped down there!"

Valeria had never swam faster in her life, with Bedelia right behind her. They soon got to Ghost's Crag, a giant crevice in the ocean floor. It was said to be caused by a fight between Empress Moria and a siren who could shape-shift.

Apparently, their fight lasted for eight days and eight nights, and Moria emerged victorious, and with the infamous Storm Trident in her possession.

She shudders as she remembers the lightning it could summon. The typhoons it made with a single wave.

"Down there!" Bedelia snaps her out of her thoughts, and the two swim further down.

Ghost's Crag was given its name due to the toxic fumes that came from small vents. They were small but numerous. The fumes made you hallucinate, see things that weren't there. Those who lived purely in the sea had evolved to not be affected, but those above land tended to be badly affected.

But people being trapped? How could that even happen?

In a flurry a bubbles, Valeria's weapon appears. She was blessed to have one that changes like the water, and she let's it shift to that of a large war hammer. "Bede, get ready to move and use your whip to grab them!"

"Got it!" Bedelia nods, her whip appearing in a flurry of bubbles as well.

The two dive deeper down, and she can hear voices. Discussing, talking, wondering where they are.

"Hey!" Valeria shouts once she gets to the thinnest rocks. "Hey, can you hear me?"

"Hello?!" A male's voice calls out. "Is someone there!"

"Yes, I'm real!" She assures the voice. "Listen, I'm going to smash this rock in, which is gonna flood in water. You'll need to hold you breath. My friend is going to grab you with her whip to get you guys out as fast as we can, okay?"

After noises of agreement, Valeria swims back. With a low grunt, she swings the hammer, slamming it into the rocky wall. It crumbles like paper, and Bedelia acts quickly, her whip shooting out and wrapping around many wrists.

They begin to swim, swim as fast as they can.

When they breach the surface, Valeria finally gets a good look at them.

And she feels her heart skip a beat because she's sure that she's seen those faces before. But from where? A mural, maybe?

Lexi prides herself in being very, very sneaky. You don't become a Tigerfish from brute strength alone. No, you sneak and around and figure things out on your own.

The purple octoling peers her head around the doorway, red eyes glancing around. The room she was peering into was large and open air, with what she presumed to be magic, making a dome overhead, keeping the water of the outside out.

In the center, on a pedestal, was a crown. It wasn't anything grand. It was a blackstone crown, floating in a bubble. Two rings of water circled around it, like a protection.

Lexi narrows her eyes. That must be what's keeping their base hidden. With how big this place is, it makes sense.

She looks around with a huff. The room being completely devoid of water surprised her, but she guessed it made sense. Mermaids and sirens could transform to have legs if they so wished.

Sparing one glance back towards the crown, she rushes off. Completely missing the mural in the back, show casing a giant siren wielding the Storm Trident and fighting against what seemed to be a.. younger Moria.

2023 Recap and New Year Reading

One thing I think I'm proud of this year is how I approached bullet journaling. Despite sometimes going weeks at a time without making entries, instead of giving up I just went "ah, hell, we'll try again next month" and went about setting up the next few pages. That's... progress I think.

Anyway one of the reasons I bring this up is because last year, when I started this thing, I kicked off the year with a rune and tarot reading. And I think overall they were pretty on point, even if I was refusing to see the VERY COMMON THEME in all of it. Like... what brand of copium was I on that I saw 3 of Cups with the Empress and the Ace of Cups AND Death and went "Yep nope nothing to see here folks! Having a normal one!"

The overall theme of 2023 was change. My partner and I did a lot of evaluating where we were and where we wanted to be, and started making moves to get there - some glacial, some... a lot quicker than I had expected lmao. But I think with my reading, my issue was that I made everything too broad and didn't focus on what was most on my mind - which turned out to be exactly what's on my mind now, and how it related to my existing commitments - including my fandom presence and writing. Which... has been difficult this year, particularly with being sick in one form or another for half of it.

With all of that said, 2024, it seems, is shaping up to be the transitional year - I pulled the Magician, which lends itself to a lot of power and potential. For the first half of the year, there's going to be a lot of good (or at least positive leaning) vibes up until April, supposedly - the Sun, Justice, the Empress (again), the High Priestess... all major arcana, all BDE cards. A lot of the messaging is about joy and balance and trusting my instincts. The vibes will be immaculate and everything's going to fall into place.

...Until May, which is when we can expect the Bean to make their appearance. Which... well, Five of Swords wasn't exactly the most surprising pull here. That is going to be a rough, scary transition, and I already knew it would be. But it's not forever.

We're (probably,) going to get our shit together a bit over the summer and into fall (Knight of Wands, the Chariot, 9 of Wands, King of Pentacles, the Fool) and then we're up for a setback of some kind in November (10 of Swords.) Given the context of the Fool and the overall timing, I think this is going to be related to moving Bean into their own room, and could be as simple as difficulty adjusting (for both of us tbh.) I'm not really seeing anything that indicates major issues, but the final card of the year (Judgement) is giving me a bit of an empowering message here.

Taken in aggregate, the message is clear: I have everything I need to succeed, so long as I remember not to rush important decisions and to ask for help when I need it. We can and we will achieve the balance I so desperately crave if we put the work in.

I did also do a rune reading, which overall seems to support the tarot one and gives me some additional context: likely looking at some conflict with work and family in the coming year (which I expected and which is already occuring to an extent) and my overall well-being is going to take a hit (also expected) - thurisaz and othala (r). However, my biggest pillars (my partner, my friends, and my overall... domestic situation? Home and finances lol) are going to be solid and are positive enough, in my view, to compensate - dagaz, uruz, fehu, jera, laguz. And of course the messaging is all the same: go with the flow, don't be fucking stubborn, ask for help, act with deliberation - tiwaz (r), perthro (r), eihwaz, ingwaz, mannaz.

Anyway. Yeah. Lots of big changes coming obviously, and I don't know what things are realistically going to look like six months from now, but I know whatever it is I'm going to do my best, and I'm gonna remember to breathe.

... And hopefully I can forgive myself for the times I mess up as well as I did with the bullet journal this year lol.

Yeah we're getting a little excited little punchy and we're saying it and we probably shouldn't but there it is we need out of this is what it really is and we're going to try and find a way out. Several things to do today all fairly big we do have to get to it we need to help our son form his missions he is in a dangerous atmosphere it is war where he is and Trump is a very ignorant person and he is demanding to go to Mars. He thinks there's validity in the story that the female alien is in the face and the ship is in there maybe several no it took a ship and it's hiding and that's what it's doing. You see the blind guy in the fight in Avatar was taking the embed of Mary and it looks like nobody got to him. If you examine it closely you'll see a line there and they pulled them out and he's in someone else's body anyways. Eventually he dies he says he's in someone else's body and he's not. He has a lot of cancer he gets aggravated. It was our empress and Sarah was involved telling him to puke it out and it's any food that's good for him but it really seems that he had to and it's not going to help him right away but they're facing extinction that the hands of the max. His wife has to run the creature a lot the whole time.
