after rereading some of the It novel today, I realized that Mike and Stan are the ones that save Eddieā€™s life in the first venture into the Sewer (against the bird). BUTā€¦ Mike and Stan arenā€™t there the second time (with Mike being in hospital and Stan beingā€¦ yknow.) and Eddie dies.
I dont know if that was an intentional parallel (of which there are MANY)ā€” butā€”
what the actual fuck, man. what the actual fuck.

Controversial (United States) opinion that shouldnā€™t be controversial, from someone that lives in the USA
on the Freedom of Speech amendment (USA):
ā€œfreedom of speechā€ protects your right to stand up to the government, to protest in ways that could otherwise be outlawed (such as burning the country flag or posting about what theyā€™re doing wrong on social media).
ā€œfreedom of speechā€ does not mean you will be pardoned for every crime that involved you speaking about something unrelated to government protest.
ā€œfreedom of speechā€ does not mean that there wonā€™t be consequences from your fellow citizens if you choose to use that ā€˜freedomā€™ to harm others.
it does not mean that you have the right to verbally abuse, verbally harass, threaten, or use your words in a hate crime against someone (especially under protected statuses, like gender identity, sexual/romantic orientation, race, etc.).
it does not mean that you can tell fellow voters you hope their queer/trans children die or get assaulted if they donā€™t want to vote for Biden, or Trump, or whomever*.
(* this has actually happened to our adoptive ren E (they/them) repeatedly about our little brother Q (he/they). yes, admitting they donā€™t like Biden due to the shit heā€™s allowing, doing, encouraging, etc. has actually gotten these kinds of comments...from democrat/ā€œliberalā€ Biden supporters, of all people. they told ren E that they hope Q dies.)
it does NOT mean you can say whatever you want about everything, forever. it protects your speech against the government only.
so no, freedom of speech does not prevent you from being arrested for hate crime, harassment, abuse, etc.
no, it does not protect you from being kicked out of a business after verbally harassing/abusing or sexually harassing an employee (or many employees).
no, it does not protect you from fellow citizens counter-protesting or from them telling you that you are factually incorrect.
no, it does not protect you from legal repercussions if you use your online presence to bully, harass, abuse, etc. other people, or if you doxx people, or if you threaten someone or their child.
Freedom of Speech is part of Freedom to Protest. they go hand in hand.
you have the right to say ā€˜hey I donā€™t like the government doing [insert atrocity here (Palestine, Iraq, etc.)] / passing [insert a law or policy that hurts people]ā€™.
you do not have the freedom to say ā€˜fuck you and your whole culture/country/gender/identity/etc.ā€™ to another person.
I donā€™t expect this to go far but I wanted to say it...somewhere. and here is the best bet because FB would lose its mind & the algorithm might bite my ass if I openly call Palestine an atrocity or call out...anything, really. they repress content like this.
(Facebook is very anti free speech (/srs), funny enough (/sarcastic, frustrated); it suppresses pro Palestine content but doesnā€™t remove the most hateful bullshit spread all over its platform...and pro Palestine is, in fact, speaking up against the government.)
you (general/nbh) should be more angry about Facebook and TikTok and Twitter suppressing anti government anything (pro Palestine, pro LGBT+ progress, ā€˜we should actually fund schoolsā€™, etc.). you (general/nbh) should be less angry about laws that protect people from harm.
that is all.
(this was inspired by USA newspaper lash-back on Scotlandā€™s new anti hate crime law. maybe the law isnā€™t perfect, but itā€™s a step in the right direction, & it is not an infringement on freedom of speech.)
(incase this breaks containment: hateful replies, reblogs, asks, etc. will be blocked)

really love dynamics that are like 'it honestly doesn't matter if you view them as romantic or platonic, the point is that they love each other. the type of love is inconsequential, all that matters is that it's there'. gotta be one of my favorite genders.

I love how whenever ATLA recognizes Sokka is smart enough to solve a problem but itā€™d be too fast they just stick him in some kind of situation. Like he COULDā€™VE stopped jet from drowning a town so they tied him up and dumped him in a forest. He COULDā€™VE figured out what that spirits deal was so they lost him in the spirit world for 24 hours.

I think we as a society should bring back brotps. I think we should be weirder about characters being friends the same way people are weird about ships. Make those two characters who interacted once or twice besties. Make it difficult for them to get rid of each other even if they want to. Go nuts

"If voting changed anything they wouldn't let people do it-" grabs your face THEY DIDN'T JUST "LET" PEOPLE DO IT, MOST PEOPLE COULDN'T VOTE FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS. PEOPLE OF COLOR ONLY GOT THE FULL RIGHT TO VOTE 50 YEARS AGO IN THE US, THATS BARELY A GENERATION.
IF IT DIDNT MATTER AT ALL WHY WOULD THEY SPEND SO MUCH TIME GERRYMANDERING THE SHIT OUT OF EVERYWHERE?? WHY CAN'T FELONS VOTE?? WHY CANT PUERTO RICO VOTE? WHY DO THEY KEEP SWITCHING DATES AND LAWS AND TIMES AND WHATEVER THEY POSSIBLY CAN TO STOP PEOPLE FROM VOTING?? WHY DO THEY MAKE EFFORT AT ALL??
BEING DISILLUSIONED IS A REASONABLE RESPONSE. BUT PEOPLE FOUGHT AND DIED AND ARE STILL FUCKING DYING FOR THAT RIGHT, DONT SPIT IN THEIR FACE.

Keep seeing that post where OP starts like 'Thinking about...grieving the undead' and then adds on about like. Real life situations where people have not died but have left your life and you would have reason to grieve them.
All respect, that's an important concept, but that is not what I am thinking about when I read 'grieving the undead'.

EVERY SINGLE DAY there are MILLIONS of characters in their late 20s who get falsely accused of being father figures to teenagers when in reality the description of "weird older cousin" or "step-sibling that moved out before you were born" is 1000000x more apt

i got rickrolled today but it didn't work because i have adblocker installed, so youtube just told me i violated the terms of service. yesterday i was trying to edit a picture as a joke for my girlfriend, and google made me check a box to prove i'm human because i wasn't "searching normally".
it isn't just that capitalism is killing fun and whimsy, it is that any element of entertainment or joy is being fed upon by this mosquito body, one that will suck you dry at any vulnerability.
do you want to meet new friends in your city? download this app, visit our website, sign up for our email list. pay for this class on making a terrarium, on candlemaking, on cooking. it will be 90 dollars a session. you can go to group fitness, but only under our specific gym membership. solve the puzzle, sign up for our puzzle-of-the-month-club. what is a club if not just a paid opportunity - you are all paying for the same thing, which makes you a community.
but you're like me, i know it - you're careful, you try the library meetings and the stuff at the local school and all of that. the problem is that you kind of want really specific opportunities that used to exist. you are so grateful for libraries and the publicly-funded things: they are, however, an exception - and everything they have, they've fought tooth-and-nail to protect. you read a headline about how in many other states, libraries have virtually nothing left.
do you want to meet up with your friends afterwards? gift your friends the discord app. you can choose to go to a cafe (buy a coffee, at least), a bar (money, alcohol) or you can all stay in and catch a movie (streaming) or you can all stay in bed (rent. don't get me started) and scream (noise complaint. ticket at least).
you want to read a new book, but the book has to have 124 buzzwords from tiktok readers that are, like, weirdly horny. you can purchase this audiobook on audible! your podcast isn't on spotify, it's on its own server, pay for a different site. fuck, at least you're supporting artists you like. the art museum just raised their ticket price. once, they had a temporary exhibit that acknowledged that ~85% of their permanent art galleries were from cis white men, and that they had thousands of works by women (even famous women, like frida! georgia o'keefe!) just rotting in their basement. that exhibit lasted for 3 months and then they put everything away again.
walmart proudly supports this strip of land by the street! here are some flowers with wilting leaves. its employees have to pay out-of-pocket for their uniforms. my friend once got fined by the city because she organized a community pick-up of the riverfront, which was technically private property.
no, you cannot afford to take that dance class, neither can i. by the way - i'm a teacher. i'm absolutely not saying "educators shouldn't be paid fairly." i'm saying that when i taught classes, renting a studio went from 20 bucks an hour to 180 in the span of 6 months. no significant changes to the studio were made, except they now list the place as updated and friendly. the heat still doesn't work in the building. i have literally never seen the landlord who ignores my emails. recently they've been renting it out at night as an "unusual nightclub; a once-in-a-lifetime close-knit party." they spent some of those 180 dollars on LEDs and called it renovating. the high heels they invite in have been ruining the marley.
do you want to experience the old internet? do you want to play flash games or get back the temporary joy of club penguin? you can, you just need to pay for it. i have a weird, neurodivergent obsession with occasionally checking in to watch the downfall and NFT-ification of neopets. if i'm honest with you all - i never got into webkins, my family didn't have the money to buy me a pointless elephant. people forget that "being poor" can mean literally "if i buy you that toy, i can't afford rent."
you and i don't have time to make good food, and we don't have the budget for it. we are not gonna be able to host dinner parties, we're not made of money, kid. do you want some kind of 3rd space? a space that isn't home or work or school? you could try being online, but - what places actually exist for you? tiktok counts as social media because you see other people on it, not because they actually talk to you.
there was a local winter tradition of sledding down the hill at my school. kids would use pizza boxes and jackets and whatever worked, howling and laughing. back in september, they made a big announcement that this time, rules were changing, and everyone must pay 10 dollars to participate. when im not scared shitless, i kind of appreciate the environmental irony - it hasn't gone below 40. so much for snow & joyriding.
i saw a bulletin for a local dogwalking group and, nervous about making a good first impression, showed up early. the first guy there grimaced at me. "sorry," he said. "there's a 30-dollar buy-in fee." i thought he was joking. wait. for what? the group doesn't offer anything except friendship and people with whom to walk around the city.
he didn't know the answer. just shrugged at me. "you know," he said. "these days, everything costs money."
