Theyre also potrayed as the jibaros (which is the rural/ common folk of Puerto Rico) faithful companion. Jibaros are often potrayed as extremly humble people, with little to no power or education and left in the background of a country built with their sweat and blood . The poem was about how the traits associated with the rooster are the very traits the Jibaro is wants to potray in the face of american invasion. But humility is forced upon their chained hands, and their song has turned into a murmur. The last line was about a roosters song, always used to symbolize the start of the day and the waking of people, escaping the jibaros lips as he wakes from the slumber of opression.

IM BACK FROM MY BAND THING IT WAS LONGER THAN I THOUGHT BUT IT WAS SO AWESOME GUIDSHGJFDG i need to list every good thing that happened this will be long ok so first of all it was this thing at a college here. and i went in and the band im in played a song for some of the college band students and it went really well. and then their director gives us this acompaniment for a jazz song theyre gonna play (theyre a jazz band) so we go into sectionals (which is not like sectional sectional it was just wood winds, brass, percussion) and i go to the sectionals and the two leading it are this alto sax player and this tenor sax player and we introduce ourselves and we get asked what song we really like right now and im like its really hard for me to say but i really like will wood and bear ghost. AND THEN THE FUCKING ALTO PLAYER ALSO LIKES WILL WOOD AND BEAR GHOST. so after we practice we get a snack break and me and then start talking about it its so fucking cool. and their friend comes over and HE LIKES CHOPIN AND PAGANINI LIKE ME??? SO I GET TO AUTISM OUT TALKING ABOUT THAT AND OTHER COMPOSERS I LIKE. and its actually insane how much we had in common regarding music taste. we both liked deftones, slipknot, bear ghost, will wood, jack stauber, lemon demon, jhariah, and probably some others i forgot. WHICH WAS SO AWESOME!!!!! and its like i almost NEVER get to rant to people irl about the things i like but they listened so well and it was so fucking cool!!! and like ive literally met no one else irl that likes the same music i do. that gets over and we practice another song with them and it goes really well and it sounds amazing. and then they practice their stuff but i told them about how i used to play tenor sax in jazz band so i to sit next to tenor guy and i read off his parts (tenor sax and clarinet are in the same key) and its so fucking AWESOME!! AND THE SONGS SOUNDED AMAZING!!!! AND IT MADE ME REALIZE HOW MUCH I MISS BEING IN A JAZZ BAND. so after that the parents come back and we perform our song and they perform their songs and its just!!! AHHH!!!! IT WAS SO FUCKING COOL IM SO HAPPY!!!!!!! I CANT EXPLAIN HOW AWESOME IT WAS!!! my brain is already getting me to overthink a bit about it trying to ruin my fun but NO!! SHUT UP BRAIN. IT WAS FUCKING AMAZING AND IM AMAZING AND THEY'RE AMAZING AND EVERYTHING IS AMAZING. I LOVED IT SO SO MUCH. ok so looking at this score it seems to have a lot of different aspects that ppl would take care of (i also listened to the song just for this)

in general i feel like they teach him his line thru piano and thru noel doing everything in his power to sing below his range LMFAO [noel and mischa sit together at the piano and noel tries to keep mischas attention and teach mischa his part but mischa continuously gets distracted for various reasons]

first off i feel like constance would try to handle the basics here. “what’s with the b’s on the side???” is a question only constance has the patience for (but he would get it pretty easily)(AND talia has 5 flats so he can cope. hate him for that)

i think constance would explain it in very simple terms since its not very relevant to how he sounds (since they play the piano to teach him his notes) so she would just be all like “that basically tells the musician what the notes sound like specifically :)"

this rhythm is a little strange if u have no idea how to sightread. ricky acknowledges this. i feel like ricky would play it on both the piano (u do not need to know piano for rhythm dont fret) and on the tamborine . he is very proud of mischa for figuring it out :]

alternatively, constance has less of a rush and uses takadimi (have u ever used takadimi??? literally SO good for learning how to read rhythm i love it) to teach mischa. however it only raises more questions bc mischa does not understand at first why theyre using takadimi and not the words

TO ADD ONTO THAT. before they started using solely noel and the piano they tried to teach him the solfege but he was just confused as to why the words changed. “what do you MEAN la la la sol la la fa fa re. IT SAYS I SING BECAUSE IM HAPPY.” (im really bad at solfege. praying thats correct💀💀💀)

mischa understands that hes on the line furthest to the bottom. thats easy to remember and he remembers the notes :] he does get a little pissed at all his monotone note repeats tho (to the amusement of constance, an alto)

THIS PART. ricky and constance already explained rhythm so he understands that. but everything else is SOO CONFUSING. a natural note. a bunch of rests. a bunch of accents on like every note. why the fuck is it calling him “mf?????”

since its unis, they dont mind as much bc noel sings hella loud and dramatically, but they really just play it for him on the piano til it makes sense💀 penny TRIED to explain the natural to him but he was too far gone to understand

for the accents, they all just told him to “start quiet and end loud” to which he was like ??FOR EACH ONE and they were like “u can figure it out” (he can)(Sorta.)

penny and noel find the mf confusion so amusing but constance feels bad so she just tells him to be medium-loud😭

just got reminded of some of the weirder headmate-specific quirks we have. like, theres the stuff like some people really like specific foods/songs/etc, some people have hyper niche interests, stuff like that. people have random stuff theyre better or worse at.

but then like.

prairie is notoriously bad at typing ONLY on our phone, and were not great at it generally but she makes several typos per sentence. she doesnt struggle with coordination/motor skills, shes just like that.

razor and zadal will eat anything at least once, including things that the body/most other headmates would never try due to autism. just built different idk

montero is just... entirely immune to our mental illness. our ocd, paranoia, delusions, even the vast majority of our depression/mood issues, none of it affects him. he also just does not worry about what other people think of him at all, or of us collectively, which leads to him being willing to do weird shit when it needs to be done. helpful i guess? hes immune to mental illness and apparently that includes RSD

dr ripley is just. insanely good at escape rooms. like all of us are smart and fairly capable of solving puzzles, but shes scary fast. not surprising considering who shes a fictive of. but still

even beyond that stuff, there are just things only a couple people max are good at - or bad at. dumitra is the only one who can drum. razor cant swim and is borderline aquaphobic (thanks, neptune kin). dumitra, james, jyda and a couple of our other people can hit insanely low pitches with our voice both speaking and singing, while prairie, keyleth, aiyise and other people with naturally high/squeaky voices can barely go to low alto range. tselah and ashi can beatbox. still havent figured out why theyre the only ones who can do that. keyleth can imitate the canon voices of her kins basically flawlessly.

when recording it they were told to sing it in a bright and a bit silly way instead of putting emotions into it (like ceribou) but konachi likes it like that. megu-chan would rather sing it in a cheerful way

the first time she recorded it kankan used up so much energy she had to lie down on the sofa lol

You feel warm at the sound of his voice, and even more so due to the effort he’s put in to prove to you that your interests are his interests. And boy, is he interested in you. 

⁂ Kaminari will be down to try all kinds of fruit chocolates with you - you guys even play a roulette style game where you have to guess what kind of fruit is hidden within the chocolate. You win, mostly, because Denki just wants to stuff his face with sugar so fast that he doesn’t recognize the fruit chunks. But he still plays and is in awe of you getting every single one right because you never fail to amaze him. 

Denki slips in through the doorway, sliding off his shoes in favor of his house slippers as quietly as possible. He notices that the television is still flickering on and off, images bouncing off the glass of the window panes scattered throughout the living room walls. A chuckle parts his lips when he sees you curled up in one of his old hero merch designs - a hoodie that is too large for you, so big that it would seem it has swallowed you whole. Your legs are curled into your chest and your head rests on the arm of the couch, gentle snores making your nostrils shudder.

He tries to pick you up, slipping his arms carefully beneath your frame. But somehow you stir, your eyes peeling open lazily as you smack your lips, slowly sinking away from the realm of slumber. A gentle smile tugs on your lips and you frame his face with your hands, “Another late night?”

“Duty calls,” his voice does not sound as excited as it once did to get those midnight rings from the agency. Now, he just aches to be at home with you at the decent hours of the night, where he can hold you and fall asleep with you and remember why he fell in love with you all over again, every time he gets the faintest of whiffs of your perfume or your shampoo. 

“Dinner is in the oven,” you are murmuring, your head lolling against his chest as he settles you into his hold, “I waited for you to start the next season.”

Kaminari is laughing, but the sound of it sobers you up and you grab him by the collar of his jacket with the one arm that is listening to you tell it how to move, the other pinned between your bodies, “H-Hey, don’t laugh at me! I waited for you to start it, now we’re gonna start it.”

Somehow you’re settled back into the couch, hands desperate for him as you search his torso for somewhere to find purchase. Kaminari leans down and kisses your forehead and then the tip of your nose, his lips hovering just above the bow of your mouth as he whispers, “Whatever you want, honey.”

bro this one just HITS DIFFERENT YKNOW? if you ignore the fact that they have scripts on stage and that it seems rushed, then its really beautiful. i was watching it last night and i heard senior year play and i started SOBBING. the fact that it was the end of the trilogy was so sad. also, avpsy was supposed to be the last starkid show which makes it even sadder. the songs in this show are just so much better. for example, tonight this school is mine, sidekick, i was. THEYRE ALL B O P S ! joey richter’s vocals improved soo much and he deserved that solo.

DYLAN FREAKING SAUNDERS, GET THIS MAN ON BROADWAY. i love the character and emotion he put into ja’far. if i believed gets me every time, a tearjerker if i do say so myself. joe walker as prince achmed was the best choice honestly, now he’s one of my dream roles. also, jeff blim’s aladdin???? GOLDEN. thst scene where you find out he murdered his parents and he goes through this whole dialogue between his other identity is hilarious. the comedy is beautiful.

i might get attacked for putting this at number 5. but still, KENDALL NICOLE YAKSHE IS A FUCKING BLESSING. she’s only 13 and shes already top notch at acting. and honestly, i love mariah, i do, but im glad she didnt play lex. i loved angela’s version of her. also, IM SO HAPPY WE FINALLY HAVE AN ALTO. I CAN ACTUALLY SING TO BLACK FRIDAY AND CALIFORM.I.A. also, KIM WHALEN!!!!! i fucking love this musical. draco? a dream role. voldemort? mood. the songs? amazing. hotel? trivago. no but honestly, the reason why i like this musical so much is the nostalgia. whenever i listen to it just tear up a bit yknow? also this musical got me into glee so 😗✌️. also i feel like snape (joe moses) is so under appreciated in all three musicals??? like he’s so fucking funny. the music in this show is so good. also, quirrellmort??? beautiful.

and now, the musical that got me into starkid, this mess. ah yes, it was a hot july day. i was performing in a play, but oh shit i had strep!!! so i missed our last dress rehearsal :( but if it wasnt for that, i probably wouldn’t even know what starkid is. i remember trying to watch this musical when it first came out, but for some reason i had a fear of jeff blim so i turned it off. but i watched it and was like “DAYUM” also, robert manion’s hip wiggles are really fucking hot for some reason. i found this musical really funny and im really into comedy. the opening number? golden. the ending is where its at though, INEVITABLE. jon matteson has a really nice voice. and mariah rose faith, A GODDESS!!!! i had been watching mariah’s (@linguinismansion) covers ever since i got into theatre. i loved her dead girl walking cover and her world burn cover. (and now shes in mean girls!! wooo!) im also 90% sure mariah is why im a lesbian so...thanks...i guess?? anyway i love this show and its chaotic cast

I TOLD YALL I LIKED COMEDY. jeff blim’s writing is fucking amazing. the music? godly. cornwallis? sexy. for some reason when i first watched this i found jeff blim sexy??? dont ask??? but its really hilarious and it honestly is just my family taking a road trip. c h a o t i c. the son is my dream role and if i ever play him then i want my name to be onion. dont ask. but i love the plot and music so much. also joey richter’s constant quick changes in independence are impressive as fuck!!! also he’s so good at every role in this musical. 11/10

last book read: reading the scottish boy by alex de campi and i am VERY MUCH enjoying it (there’s def some kinda iffy aspects to it, but it’s gorgeously written. and im a sucker for lgbtq historical fiction. so) it’s literally about a knight and his semi-squire in medieval britain who fall in love amidst political turmoil. the other book im in the middle of is gideon the ninth by tamsyn muir and if you’re reading this you’re now contractually obligated to read it. PLEASE IM SO ALONE AND IT’S A MASTERPIECE

Black Friday for musical asks?

the last time i watched black friday was when it first released on youtube so i dont really remember it well so i had to consult my commentary of it in the pms with my friend

Favourite Character: lex. shes hilarious in every damn scene, i have a weakness for alto leads, and she has all the best songs. also shes just very compelling and works well for starkids target audience to see themselves in a lead character.

close second is that guy who works for the president whose actor made the amazing choice to do an obama impression, he was hilarious. i genuinely expected someone to call him barack.

Least Favourite Character: idk if this is a hot take or whatever but i dont like toms character at all. his whole arc is something ive seen in every movie about a man whos wife died in the history of ever. the whole concept is overdone, all his songs last way too long and are boring, and i found myself mentally checking out whenever his Feelings were in focus. i cant even remember what else he did in the show other than freak out about his son and the doll and fuck a nurse.

Favourite OBC Cast Member: not broadway lol but lauren lopez always steals every damn scene shes in.

Least Favourite Song: i just. really dont like any song where tom had a major presence. all his solos last WAY TOO LONG, i CANNOT SAY THIS ENOUGH, and theyre way too boring to justify that length, and every song about his romantic arc failed to show why hes even interested in this girl so it just made me dislike hetero romances in fiction more. “do you want to play” is not in this category bc its amazing.

If There is Something I Would Change about The Musical: it needs to stay on one fucking story-thread for more than 5 minutes. there are more protagonists than i can count (why do we need to follow the damn president???) when it should stick to one, and that one is lex. if we followed lex through the entire show, with brief parts focusing on our villains (im kinda fine with the holy trinity of antagonists, it works), the story would be infinitely better.

also, starkid needs to stop this whole deep lore trilogy of hatchetfield shit. the thing is... the guy who didnt like musicals was a good story, and it was fine on its own. we didnt need answers to any mysteries because there were NO MYSTERIES. any theatre in the world could perform tgwdlm, but literally no theatre could perform black friday because it requires the context of tgwdlm for the story to 100% make sense, and it only serves to confuse starkids fandom and make them froth at the mouth for the hopefully-final entry in the trilogy to figure what the fuck is going on. black friday isnt a strong story on its own merit. it requires the fact that its part of a trilogy to make the audience care, which doesnt justify a story existing, shocking i know.

like... i get it. consuming lore and filling out wikis and experiencing the worldbuilding is exciting, but that excitement only lasts like a month. by now, no one talks about black friday except in anticipation for starkids next project. on the other hand, i just saw some firebringer fanart a few days ago, and tgwdlm content is interminable at this point, because it was just so good. it seems like the starkid writers saw the things that made tgwdlm good (strong protagonist, amazing humor, not taking itself seriously, the clever usage of musical theatre as a storytelling medium, etc), and ignored all that, threw it all away, and pandered to the 10 youtube commenters who were making ~Theories~ about the ~Lore~ of the show.

basically, black friday needs a complete rewrite.

Ratings: 4/10, at least it does horror well
