What do you use to draw?

I have a surface pro 8 at home and I use a 22in cintiq at work. Occasionally… I do personal art at work LOL. I use Photoshop CC almost exclusively except the occasional phone drawing which I’ll do on HeavyPaint or Autodesk Sketchbook (but mostly Heavypaint). What brushes do you use? For painting I use the same horrible brushes I downloaded from deviantart like 14 years ago and I cobbled them together for download here. And for lines ive been using shiyoon kim’s brushes which you can grab here. 

What do you use for plein air paintings? If it’s digital, almost exclusively Heavypaint. Traditional, I use gouache. A mix of Holbein acryla and normal gouache either windsor newton or m. graham.

What kind of sketchbook do you use? I use moleskine cahier XXL sketchbooks! I’ve been using moleskine cahiers for probably over 10 yrs now? they come in packs of 3 for like 30USD (the price went up recently booo but $10 per book is still not bad) for the largest size. I think a lot of people associate moleskine with intimidatingly fancy covers & paper but the cahiers are rly lightweight and flexible. you can bend the xxl into a roll like a newspaper and the covers are a light cardboard so you can draw all over them. I always have trouble with spiral sketchbooks getting fucked up in my backpack because I really throw my stuff around a lot but the binding on the cahiers can take a beating and have never fallen apart on me.

I find it so weird how much every social media site fandom hates each other bc I’m on literally every single one and each one is just??? Made for different things??

Tumblr is great for long form content like analysis, theories, headcanons and fanfiction. The lack of a restricting character limit allows for long thoughts and rambles to be clearly conveyed. Features like the asks adds an interesting sort of interaction not seen on any other site. Reblogs also allow thoughts to be built upon. If you like someone’s idea, you can take it and add your own to create something truly collaborative. Fanart is also really good here, but fanart is everywhere you can post images.

Twitter is great for interaction. You can bounce your ideas off other people quickly and in a very simple manner. It’s also the best to have for getting info from ccs and interacting with them. Again, fanart. This is a good site to use if you want your fave to see said fanart.

Insta is the weakest for any of the writing based things of course. The algorithm is a little wack but the fanart content on there is amazing. There’s whole fancomics and off the wall things like that. As long as you’re properly supporting the artists, it’s great.

Tiktok has a lot of what Tumblr has, verbalized. Lots of fans talking about their headcanons and theories. There’s animatics, too, which are sick! But most of all, the COSPLAYERS. That shits an art form in and of itself in the mcyt community, since we have so little to go off with on the skins. Tiktok does have the wildest cringe but so does every site. 99% of it is trolling and the tiniest portion of it is the weird side of the fandom. Ignore it and only interact with stuff you like and eventually the algorithm will cater to you and you won’t see it.

Reddit is also really good for interacting with certain ccs and is really built on a sense of community. It’s mostly formed on that. There’s a lot of camaraderie on Reddit because of this. Some ccs are part of their respective subreddits, so if you want them to see something or interact, it’s good for that. The fanart on there is also fucking exquisite.

Idk maybe I’ve just been lucky enough to never see anything abhorrent on any site. There’s downsides to each and every one, and it’s all up to personal preference which you prefer to use. I have no real preference because I’m a social media addict who’s hyperfixated on mcyt and wants to only see that on every platform, but I understand why others do. All I’m saying is I do not get the vitriol some of y’all have for each other. Just ignore it and mind your business on whatever you like.

Back on topic, I am happy that in the fandoms I'm in, update blogs or accounts are well loved so no drama there but I agree on cc peeps, my gosh the decline of them is obvious for the past 2 years =/ I remember 2018 the carat fandom here was HUGE with creators and lots of notes but now...its hard to see more than 200 for some and while numbers don't matter because you should ALWAYS be doing this for fun, its so shocking to see the interaction go so low and its more likes. I do have a theory as to why this is the case and it might be due to nowadays, people on Tumblr find reblogging alot to be "too much" akaspamming. I would know because some told me I do this and I'm like ??? I am simply reblogging content I like and if it means hitting the rbelog limit so be it djajdjw. Legit idk why its seen as bad nowadays when everyone used to reblog alot and no one complained so maybe this could be why? Again a theory but it would make sense and its a shame if this is the case :c I admit I like stuff because I sometimes do reblog it for a color theme but mostly I hit the reblog limit so I want to reblog it later xD

But let's not get into people that take others work as their own -.- now I get giving credit for say icons (I do this for icons and headers I use because its the least I can do. I would link it but idk how to do it on Tumblr lol) but taking someone's say gif and just posting it on twitter to share is like ??? You do know there is a share button that SHARES THE ORIGINAL LINK BACK RIGHT? Smh i can't with people. but yeah i joined carat tumblr around late 2017/early 2018 (i made this side blog during oh my era but I'd been reblogging svt stuff on main before then) and I'm p sure most if not all the cc's i originally followed are inactive now :( obviously like you said content creators should make content for fun and bc they want to and not for the notes, but it's understandably disheartening when less people are interacting with it and even the people who do still see your content are (at least seemingly) less enthusiastic about it (ie liking but not reblogging it, less ppl writing things in the tags or replies, etc.)

but that's so wild to me? I've never heard anyone say someone is reblogging too many things like... how do you expect to see posts if people don't reblog stuff?? id welcome that extra content on my dash dhfjfh. i guess you can go in specific tags but like. idk reblogging is the main function of tumblr i don't know why there are people sort of against it/not as willing to use it (i mean... i suspect at least one factor is other social media platforms relying more on algorithms and likes to show people new content and ppl are just more used to that maybe?)

i feel like to some extent people feel entitled to have every or any gif or fanart or fan content on their platform of choice, but like if an artist posts something on tumblr but not on twt or instagram it doesn't HAVE to be on twt or insta. people can make a tumblr (or whatever platform) account if that's the only place a creator is active and they really want to see their content. and if people want to share something cool to another platform it is not hard to just post a link to the original post and tell people to check it out. like i do that every once in a while if there's a translation that doesn't allow reposts, but i still want ppl to know that trans exists if they wouldn't normally. and yeah!! you're gonna get less engagement that way!! but that's when you need to question whether your intention is really to share something cool w people who wouldn't normally see it or if you just want clout from this cool thing for yourself

and obviously not everyone who reposts things wo credit or permission has such innocent intentions as "i want to share this cool thing" but i think in a lot of cases it is something similar to that where ppl see something and they want to use it or share it for whatever reason and they just forget that it's something an actual person took the time to create and chose to share it. fan creations, unless otherwise specified, are not like memes in that they're intended to be shared and edited and copied to hell and back

but yeah pinterest is the worst in terms of reposts. like very little if any of the content on there (at least that's fandom related) is original content. the vast majority is reposts from other platforms without credit. a few weeks ago i saw someone on twt post like an old SVT photo or something and someone asked where it was from and they were like 'idk i saw it on pinterest' and when i tell u my blood boiled dhfkfj like!! ok!! so you're reposting a repost and u have no idea what the original source is... great

but yeah i have no idea what SVT is gonna do with pinterest... guessing it's just gonna be pledis posting official/behind photos that they also post on twt anyway. it really looks like it's something bh made them create given other bhl artists also have pinterests they're all following each other. also pledis didn't even officially announce the new account opening anywhere as far as I've seen so like. i think they really don't care dhfkfj

🥁 I watch Game Grumps videos sometimes and listen to horror podcasts like The Magnus Archives. For music choices, I bounce around between Owl City, Fela Kuti, Dead Kennedys, Asha, Queen, Green Day,  P!ATD, Brockhampton and Fall Out boy. So a majority of rock/rap/electronic stuff 🎷 I have about fifty different character playlists that I cycle through, as well as Game Grumps compilations as background noise. 🎺 I'm always listening to music when I'm working on a creative piece. I find it motivating and helps me put more "soul" in my pictures. 🎻 Yes! I've been listening to the Black Eyed Peas latest record a lot as well as my favorite telenovela, Bety La Fea. I also listen to one of my favorite movies, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, a lot and Arrested Development.

What’s your favorite music artist/band? If you could ask your favorite band/music artist one question, what would it be?

🎤 Probably Tatsuro Yamashita! 🥁 My current favorite is Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys/Guantanomo School of Medicine and if I could ask him one question it would be  "How do you write your songs in such a simple but powerful way?" 🎷 I really love Queen, especially since the CD would always be on repeat when I was a kid growing up. I think if I could ever ask them a question, I think it would be where the inspiration from their songs all sparked from, what the underlying backstory or meaning behind them were. 🎺 It's always changing so its hard to say. Currently it's Brockbeats 🎻 My favorite band would be Last Dinosaurs, I really like the soft and dance sound they've got. I'm not much of a music fangirl so I wouldn't know what to ask lol

🎤 Nope! 🥁 I can play the guitar and currently trying to figure out playing the drums 🎷 Like a lot of folks, I was forced to learn the infernal recorder that parents always regret. However, I would love to learn how to play the piano! 🎺 I don't anymore but I used to play the piano and would love to pick it up again. 🎻 No ): I've always wanted to play the violin but never got to take classes.

What do you expect from this zine?

🎤 I hope to be able to find some new tunes to listen to and follow some more cool artists! 🥁 To make some friends, make good art and have fun 🎷 I expect to push myself into finishing a larger piece than I have in the past, whilst also challenging myself to try new methods and improve in areas. 🎺 I'm usually creating artwork with music in the background. It's a good change of pace to draw music, one of my muses, actually paying attention to the sounds and lyrics and making something out of it. The background becomes the foreground, and I'm excited to see what I'll create with that in my mind. 🎻 I'm really excited to see the different interpretations of songs. I tend to be very literal so abstract interpretations baffle me!

Languages you speak: First language English, but I have a degree in French and Italian. I used to speak German too but it’s pretty rusty these days, it’s been a few years!

Your play style: Very gameplay centric - I love a good story but I often get so carried away with the legacy aspect of it I forget what story I was telling! Plus I don’t like forcing stories. I love a bit of wackiness in my game, it’s not very gritty. 

Your selfsim picture: Accurate. Except my hair isn’t that good. 

Stories or gameplay, builds, lookbooks, edits or cc: Mostly gameplay and when I have the energy/willpower, story! I’ve never been a very good builder and I usually prefer to just play!

Your favorite age state: Prooobably young adult/adult just because you get to see how well they’ve grown up (if they were born in game) and that’s when the bulk of the living happens!

Your favorite season: Autumn for suuuure. I’m not into pumpkin spice lattes but I’m all about that soft autumnal aesthetic. 

Your favorite holiday: Easter. HEAR ME OUT, my dad’s a priest so it’s all the family time and celebrating of christmas without the intense pressure! No-one in the office is going to be arguing about who gets easter time off, plus it’s always at the weekend. Plus, CHOCOLATE. NEED I CONTINUE?

How was your day: Oh, lord. Let’s not go there. I just spent an hour trying to memorise different varieties of life insurance, so I think that tells you all you need to know. 

Your favorite career:  There’s still a few that I’ve not played through, weirdly. I kinda like all the entertainment outfits because it’s just basic wacky sims and I love it. Makes me feel like a kid again.

This is super obscure but back when I wasn’t allowed sims (look how well that turned out, MUM, NOW I HAVE A KINDA OLD BLOG DEDICATED TO IT) I used to go on the sims 2 website and play the Celebration Stuff minigame. It was just decorating a room but it made me love celebration stuff.

How old is your simblr: 5 (?) years now? Time flies!!

Have you woohooed: A lady never woohoos and tells! I’m just a woman though. Yeah, I woohooed. *eyebrow wiggle*

Your favorite skill: I mean creativity is the big money maker, but logic brings alien babies... sooo... it’s a tie?

Your 3 favorite mods: For sims 2, the dawn/dusk lighting mod, ACR is always hilarious when you think you have a nice loyal family and then you see one on a community lot and BOOM! affair! andddd... quality of life wise, that more awesome than you mod that stops sims endlessly stomping on bugs. Cannot live without it.

Your interests (other than sims): Obviously other video games, but I actually spend a lot of time making cards. I have an instagram for them so if you are into that kinda thing go check out cardsbybizzy on insta! 

Your favorite sim (picture if possible): I really don’t have a favourite right now - it depends on who I’ve been playing. I nearly cried irl when [redacted] died, though. (wait... did I post that yet? I didn’t post that yet!!)

Which Sims games you have played (including mobile games): Okay. So. TS1, TS2, TS3, TS4, TS Medieval, Bustin Out, Life Stories, Pet Stories, Castaway Stories, Freeplay.... Did you know there’s a “Sims Stories” skill on Alexa? DID YOU!? I DID. AND YES. I PLAYED IT.

Propose a crazy scheme: What if we all just stopped sending anon hate and tearing each other down? No? Too crazy? I hate seeing people get brought down by it again and again. It’s a game. (A thumping good’un I’d wager.)

Best part of simblr: Seeing other people’s awesome posts and getting inspired! This community is so endlessly creative and I’m always in awe of it. 

Worst part of simblr: The constant. Negativity. I mostly just unfollow when I see endless whinging but it’s hard to avoid completely. 

What other games you play: Overwatch, Witcher 3, Skyrim, Animal Crossing (MARCH 20 2020 HIT ME UP)... it varies a lot! I’ve actually been playing Kim kardashian hollywood lately. Don’t @ me.

Before starting any project just for fun we made him and I always felt so proud of how he turned out. Your play style: Starting projects and never getting past the building process is a playstyle? I usually like to have some objective though, instead of just playing aimlessly.

Stories or gameplay, builds, lookbooks, edits or cc: I find stories pretty awkward to portray on Sims, and fashion and decoration were never my strong point. So I stick to challenges, both found and created.

Your favorite age state: Depends on what for. Young adults are the easiest to manage and have more options, but toddlers are the most challenging on a Baby Challenge.

Your favorite season: Autumn, always. Its colors are just beautiful.

Your favorite holiday: Haven’t played them all yet, so I can’t say.

How was your day: (Tumblr erased all my hard work on this thing, but the day I first wrote it I had my blood taken so not great). Today, I discovered the extent of human stupidity in mass hysteria situations. Never seen a supermarket so empty of food before.

Your favorite career: Hypotetically, writer. But I haven’t played as one yet so I can’t confirm.

Your favorite aspiration: Big Happy Family’s been pretty fun for our matriarch, but I still have many more to explore. (I can say it’s not the kid’s mobility one. Stupid mecanography.)

The size of your Mods folder:  29,9 GB. Worm and I share a game and a mods folder, but Chiwawa dumps her messily organized mods on us from time to time.

Your interests (other than sims): Mostly writing and reading (I’m the main writer of this tumblr, btw), but also videogames, anime and k-pop.

Your favorite sim (picture if possible): I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite sim of all time, I have far too many sims I love for different reasons, but this one was specially hard to get right so we feel particularly proud.

His name is Carles Serra, and he’s a parental figure for two of the MCs of the story we’re working on. He’s a math and ethics teacher on a very exclusive highschool, and he needed to have both a very refined and snobbish air and this inevitable awkwardness all math teachers seem to have. Plus, he has to deal with teenage drama all through the story, so I feel like he needs a lot of love. And maybe some vacation.

Which Sims games you have played (including mobile games): Sims 2, 3 and 4. And I think I once tried to make a sim on a terrible PS2 version or something.

Propose a crazy scheme: Mandatory therapy for teens so everyone learns empathy and management of one’s emotions would be pretty neat.

Best part of simblr: Sharing our common passion with others in a free and creative way, probably.

Worst part of simblr: The lack of interaction, I guess. I had only ever been in a very small fandom here on tumblr before, and compared to the closeness of that comunity, I feel like simblr is... very scattered.

You asked for tv recommendations on Twitter lol what kind of shows are you looking for genre wise?

I did lol, in which good news I am prolly turning CC back for like 2 days a week or smth cuz now that Insta activity can't be tracked anymore everyone should share intel with me if they have some rofl; TV and movies, I feel people are really focused on TV but movies mostly I am in a mood lately because it's faster - Avoid romcom and get closer to scifi/crime if you can lol - Like last movie I saw that were just amazine were Prisoners and The Prestige or Nightcrawler

So this is a post I’ve been thinking about making for a while but I’ve decided last night when I was in bed that I was going to do it today and I have a feeling I’m really going to regret it

I think it’s time for me to take a step back from the CC fandom.

Now, I just want to say it’s not because I don’t believe anymore or any of that but I just don’t feel like this is a place where I feel welcome or comfortable anymore and I that’s basically what this post is about. I’ll put it under a read more so you don’t have to have this clogging up your dashboard.

If you want to talk about points I made here PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE. Do not reblog and comment. I’ll ignore what you’ve said if you do that.

The main reason for this is I feel like I’m the only person who prefers C over D. Don’t get me wrong, I still love D but C is my babe. I feel more of a connection to him than I do D. Now, this was never something that bothered me before. I’ve been in this fandom since 2012. There were people who preferred D. there were people who preferred C. There were people who loved both equally. And that’s fine.

But now as time went on and people have moved on, it’s been a mostly pro-D fandom. Which. Is. Fine. I’m not saying it isn’t It’s fine to prefer him. But it’s been biased towards him. There used to be equal praise and criticism of them both but now everything gets blamed on PR and we can’t be mad at things that D does at all. We  I’ve seen people even be told they can’t even say ‘ I see why people are coming from if they think he’s a straight dudebro’ because it means they’ve not been reading fan theories?

And with C, I see nothing. Literally nothing about him. Unless it’s getting angry over W and A. TLOS used to be a good time because I got to see him more ( I would follow more C centric blogs but a lot are rabid D haters and I can’t deal with that). But this year? Apart from a few posts, I saw nothing. Especially after C banned Glee-related questions. People even criticised him for doing PR stuff when telling people “it sucks but it’s just PR” whenever D does a thing they don’t like. Some people might remember but I defended him. And I got a lot of people responding to it saying they weren’t biased which I can’t prove they're not but it definitely comes across that way. And on that day, I got an ask from a CC hater. They were an asshole who erased the sexualities of everyone in the fandom but they thought I didn’t ship CC. Because I defended C.

I was in fucking shock at this. And it really made me think. Is it really that crazy that a CC fan can prefer C? It didn’t seem like it but a few days later, someone sent someone else (one of the big names in this fandom) a message that was clearly directed at me saying “ i freaking hate the hypocrisy of some chris cc fans, how i haven't seen a single mention about will being in chris's insta story but darren gets hate if mia so much as mentions him, what is up with that? why everyone always give chris and his assistant the pass and hate on darren so much? thats something that i hate of the cc fandom the insane passes at chris and the insane standard towards darren “

This was a clear dig at me.I was the only person who was being very vocal about preferring C around this time so it was obviously about me. I was a hypocrite apparently because I didn’t comment on W being in the insta story. I never saw this story. I don’t use insta that much and I rarely see C on my dash countless it's Kurt.  And no one went “wtf is this about heather/sami”. I just read the same old “we treat them the same” I heard when I brought this up but with people preferring D. 

At this point, I was pissed off as fuck. I still participated but I was angry that people were talking shit about me just for liking C more and that no one was calling this out. It sounds self-centred but a lot of these people follow me and it was only made about how D and C get treated the same when I’ve spoken to a lot of people (mainly on twitter) who agree that there is a bias towards D.

I ignored this and tried to continue on, and I tried to not take it personally, but yesterday, I reached my breaking point and it sounds like something so minor but it angered me.

There was an article posted about how D should play HP in the Cursed Child. I was on board for this because D loves HP. He started his career playing H and it would be an amazing way to show how far he’s come - to playing him in a fan made musical in college as a twenty two-year-old kid to growing up to this amazingly talented man playing him in an official Broadway play. Some people didn’t want it because they didn’t like the play, which I get.  But some people were opposed.. because he won’t get a Tony. And this is no different from Pr. They push him to do roles, not because he likes it but because he’ll get more attention and awards for it.And now people are opposed to him not doing a role because he won’t get a trophy?? He has a lifetime to start a new role. He has a lifetime to get the Tony he deserves. But he someone can’t even fantasise about him playing the role that gave him attention and helped him with Glee (because let’s admit it, being a viral star really helped him get more attention with Glee as it brought Starkids to the show).Simply because some fans think he should only do stuff that gets rewards and at that point, I felt I had to distance myself from this fandom and I was thinking about it in bed last night, and I can’ remember what triggered it - I think it was talking to people on twitter - but I decided that it was time to go.

I will still support C and C. I’ll still post edits of them as a couple. I’ll still love them. But I will not be active in the fandom anymore. So no more TERFy beard jokes, no more sharing theories, no more talking about theories. 

I’m done.

 It’s been five years and I loved doing this but I’m not having fun anymore. It’s not the same feeling of community. It feels like they will ha We can only have one mindset about what’s a head canon or not and that’s it. I’ve rarely seen any diversity in head canons anymore. 

It's just not the fandom it was when I first came here and I need to leave sooner rather than later.

This will be a Klaine / Flash / general shit blog now so if you want to unfollow because of this post or because there’s not going to be any more CC theories, then that’s fine. I get it. I won’t get upset.

But if you want to talk about this, like I said SEND ME A MESSAGE. I’ll talk about it there. I will ignore any reblogs asking questions so please don’t do that (you can make general comments or whatever but if you want a discussion, go send me a DM.
