thoughts on dave and aradia (<>)?
day 356
BIG fan tbh. in this house we love and respect timerails
truly yall read this log and tell me theyre not cute
#day 356#year 4#dave strider#aradia megido#aradave#homestuck#she really saw this kid and was like OH YOU HAVE ISSUES WITH YOUR MORTALITY?? :D#boy do i have some relevant life experience and wisdom to impart on THAT ISSUE SPECIFICALLY#and then she just. very gently and kindly makes the subject more approachable for ghostdave#the pesterlog i linked is literally my FAVORITE aradia moment. to me it is THE character defining moment for god tier aradia#yes she is being kind of ominous and trickstery at first#but it VERY quickly becomes clear shes got genuine concern for this kid she's had very little to do with up until this point#she really wants to connect with him over their shared time aspect stuff#and she really DOES care about how he feels about everything. she wants to help and she wants to put him at ease#because she KNOWS from experience that being dead and having to cope with what that means for you is like VERY UPSETTING AND TRAUMATIC#shes not just like. 'hee hee i think death is great and awesome because im edgy'#shes like 'no dude being dead is scary if you dont have anybody to explain this shit to you. so im going to explain it-'#'-and hopefully by the end of this conversation you will have some new things to feel relief and maybe even joy and excitement about'#'not just in spite of the death thing but BECAUSE of it'#i know shes spooky and has weirdgirl swag and we all love that about her but like#at her core she is a very KIND person. she may occasionally struggle to connect to people through the Death Special Interest Haze#but she WANTS to and when she DOES she is like. a genuinely very warm and comforting presence for her friends#ANYWAY. if andrew hussie or i guess james roach now want to give me an honorary doctorate for my 12+ years of intensive aradia studies#i will be here waiting patiently#timerails

the concept of the slur replacement project feels a bit like historical revisionism? especially considering how much i see people recommend it as the recommended way of reading homestuck. it's sanitizing down the more unpalatable bits of homestuck to make it seem more friendly and wholesome (which seems incredibly common among homestuck fans in general, especially among those who like to pretend the epilogues never happened, which is a whole other discussion i won't get into rn), and that just feels weird. not to mention the execution of it is very poor in general. the "future arachnids grip" joke is funny actually, and the change they made to make it "later arachnids grip" not only makes it a weaker joke (as it was initially a play on how the concept of gayness isn't really a thing to trolls), but also introduces an inconsistency in the writing, as it only does this change for vriska, drawing more attention to it. there's also a fucking... random bit where iirc for one line they replace a mention of bill cosby with... gnomeo and juliet? i think? which is not only a baffling decision that they don't, but is technically introducing an anachronism because that movie didn't come out until 2011. the writing they used to replace things in general just doesn't feel very homestuck-y, and it always feels clunky and awkward.
.
#homestuck#homestuck confession#you're right and you should say it#I like the fish puns they use to replace the slurs meenah says bc they're good puns but like#the characters gradually saying slurs less is part of their character development and removing the slurs therefore changes the characters#and late in the comic only a few characters still say them and it's part of their characterization#it's meant to tell you something about them specifically#censoring that meenah and cronus and caliborn still say slurs therefore deletes a major part of the story#was the use of slurs in the first place a good choice? maybe not#but they are ultimately just words that offend some people#I personally am not offended by fag because I am one#and hussie MADE IT PART OF THE STORY one he realized it wasn't really okay#which was a great choice honestly#he did that kind of thing a lot#removing it is like changing the beforans to all be 13 to remove the meenvris ickyness#which similarly originated as a mistake that was later worked into the story#mod commentary

funniest part of posting all these homestuck book annotation quotes is people being so surprised that hussie like… understands their own story. lmao
#people being in disbelief that they actually said some of the stuff i’m quoting#there is such an attitude that hussie is just some stupid rube who made a good story completely by accident#when no. that shit was on purpose actually#crazy i know#there are definitely some things about it that we’re happy accidents and they sometimes acknowledge these in the notes as well#anyway it is just kind of sad to me#how little faith ppl have in hussie actually knowing what they were doing when they wrote all that?#like idk hussie has their flaws. their many many flaws. but they know how to write an interesting story and they do it on purpose#my biggest gripe with hussie is the way they view readers as their adversaries in a way#readers are meant to be toyed with#they like making readers mad on purpose it’s like a game to them#i just find that annoying#but at the same time i kind of understand?#i know that stuff in our webcomic is gonna make people mad and tbh i’m a little excited to see it#but i didn’t write it for the PURPOSE of making people mad which is what hussie did a lot with homestuck

i'm currently going full tin hat in the notes app over this damn series. even homestuck didn't get me to do this
#tltposting#i did not care about homestuck lore at all actually#i feel like i have the edge as a tlt fan bc i was a homestuck fan#like u kind of have to know the homestuck lore to understand tlt's references to it#and i do on the broader scale#like the whole people playing gods & mythologizing themselves create a new world in which they are gods#and the presence of huge alien monsters that represent existential threats to the universe#one could say caliborn & calliope demonstrate some uhhhh#similar concepts as some of the fucked up incomplete lyctors in t#tlt*#but yeah to be honest i never understood the whole thing about the frog that was the universe or whatever#i might have at some point#but i do actually think that tazmuir's world building is more of a closed loop than hussie's#and that she has more interesting things to say w it#both obviously legends in speculative fiction#but homestuck was more speculative in form than substance#IN MY OPINION#but as i've said i was not a homestuck plot girlie#anyway#maybe the reason i'm more captivated by the tlt lore is bc i understand what it has to say more#and i love it#ramblings

listening to hmtw is also really bringing to the fore just HOW weird & fashy eq is in a way that i really didn’t realise when i was like, 15 :/
#& kinda ditto w what they’re saying about the blood caste system being used as a particularly ill-advised & weird racism metaphor?#i’ll be interested to hear if they bring up any of the ways that gets fleshed out more iygm; like w how later (iirc!) it’s said that diff#types have diff lifespans & how that plays in a bit idk#when u look at it properly it’s SO so!!! ‘well obvs we need to give the aliens some kind of racism!’ ‘scifi is all about metaphors!’ idk#ppp#hmtw#[the hussie answer they bring up (e4p2) makes it sound like the blood system is (socially) completely removed from any biological diffs#which is v v different from how it plays out later & how i’ve seen it played w elsewhere/fanwise idk]

sin, sin, sin.
words: 1.6k
warnings: 18+ only, smut, p in v sex, unprotected sex, semi public sex, catholic church setting, confessional, rafe kind of pretending to be a priest (itll make sense quickly), religious trauma, if youre religious and easily offended probably skip this one
rafe knows little about his mother, but the one thing he does know is that she was a devout catholic. maybe it's stories ward told him, or the fact that his strongest memory of her was her funeral, held in the same catholic church he's currently pushing the grand wooden doors to enter.
it's his last chance as he looks into the candlelit hall. to turn around and go back into the darkness of the night, let the inky blackness swallow him whole.
rafe feels a pang in his chest. good old catholic guilt his mother passed down to him. rafe lets out a curse before he steps foot into the church, wishing he got his father's fake christianity instead, going to church on holidays and only using the religion when it suits you.
rafe looks away from the altar, the cross hanging above it, and to the confession booth to the side of the pews. his feet carry them there with the false confidence he's always been able to paste on as a front.
rafe looks at the door and then swallows thickly. guilt, guilt, guilt. he's not sure anything could help, yet he opens the handle and steps inside.
the creaky door slams shut behind him as rafe sits and faces forward towards the screen, just opaque enough to make out a figure on the other side in the low light.
rafe realizes then that he doesn't know the words.
“forgive me father, for i have sinned.” a voice from the other side suddenly rings out, a soft, feminine voice. rafe suddenly is aware of his mistake. “it has been two days since my last confession.”
rafe knows he should interrupt you, stop you from continuing on, but something in him stirs him to stay, his interest peaking.
“ive slept with another man. i know you're tired of hearing it, father. i just can't help myself. i can't seem to wait, it's like something takes over me. father, i feel as if i am possessed by some sexual demon.”
you scoff and rafe can see your body crumple on the other side, becoming an even smaller shape.
“tell me what happened.” rafe says.
“i-i had a date. a nice catholic man, or at least who i thought was a nice catholic man. he took me to dinner, and then i thanked him by getting on my knees immediately after.”
“keep going…” there's something about your voice that stirs rafe, has his hand gravitating to his crotch, there's a sexual prowess in your voice mixed with the guilt and innocence, like you're describing the deeds of some other woman entirely.
“he didn't even initiate it. i did. i pulled him into my apartment when he was dropping me back home. can you believe that? he was being a gentleman bringing me back to my doorstep and i just had to be a total hussy.”
rafe presses his hand down against his growing cock, imagining himself as that so called catholic gentleman.
“i unzipped his pants and tugged them down. he wasn't even hard. i played with him over his underwear, kissed his length and sucked on it and everything.”
rafes hands follow your description as he leans back against the wooden wall, tugging down his zipper and closing his eyes to picture it even better, some anonymous bold woman.
“i then pulled his underwear down. right there in the front hallway. when i saw him… i knew i was going to sleep with him next.”
you pause for long enough that rafe realizes he needs to speak. he hopes his voice doesn't come out strained. “then you slept with him?”
“yes. didn't even make it to the bedroom, he took me against the dining room table. how am i ever expected to settle down and have my own children and a loving family when all i really want is that high.”
“how does the high make you feel?”
“it comes right before the orgasm, really.” your voice drops in octave, and rafe wonders if your pussy is getting wet reimagining the scene. “when he's inside of me, pounding hard, and i know he's about to lose it too.”
rafe pushes his underwear down and tugs his cock out, not kid himself any longer that he's not extremely turned on and cannot leave the confessional with his pants tented.
“we're moaning in sync, not worrying about the neighbors in that moment. im clenching around him and he's-” you hesitate for a moment, and rafe swears he hears a sensual exhale, as if you may be touching yourself on the other side of the booth. “he's stretching me out. i love the pulsing of right when he's about to cum-”
rafe lets out a moan as he strokes before he realizes and sits up suddenly, but his reaction is too delayed as you're out of your booth and opening the door to his.
“you perv! father-” you come face to face with a handsome young man instead of the elderly priest you expected. “you're not the father.”
your eyes then travel down to his cock and that devious part of you taking over again.
“it-it was an accident.” rafe says quickly, trying to explain why he's in the priests side of the confessional when you step inside and close the door behind you.
“i have another sin to confess.” you pull the skirt of your dress up, revealing that you're wearing nothing beneath, your glimmering wet pussy directly in front of rafes face. he could so easily lean forward and taste you.
“ive always wanted to fuck in the confessional.”
rafe grabs your hips and tugs you down. he doesn't even know your name. he doesn't need to as his lips smash against yours, wildly making out.
you reach down between your bodies, grasping rafes hard cock and giving it a few strokes before you line yourself up.
you hesitate for just a moment before sinking down as rafe moans into your mouth, hoping that his mother isn't up in heaven looking down at him desecrating this holy place with you.
you gasp and pull away from the kiss as you adjust, your pussy being stretched just the way you described liking it.
“fuck.” rafe hisses out.
“shouldn't curse in a place of worship.” you smirk at him, cutting off whatever reply he had as you begin to move, bouncing up and down.
rafe grabs your hips, helping you move. his hands are strong as they disappear beneath your dress, needing to feel your bare skin.
“so good.” you whimper, pressing your forehead against rafes, breathing heavily as the temperature in the small booth rises.
“fuck, your pussy-” rafe grunts out as his hips begin to snap up into your tight heat.
“you ever had a good catholic girl like this?” there's a hint of playfulness in your voice that rafe is shocked you can manage with your labored breathing.
“from your confession, im not sure you're all that good.” rafe says, moving his hand to rub his thumb over your clit, mostly just to see the reaction on your face as you moan out.
hes thankful for the late hour as he doesn't move his mouth forward to silence yours, letting your beautiful symphony of pleasure escape through the confessional walls and fill the church.
“this high.” you arch your back, eyes rolling back in your head as your fingers tighten on rafes shoulders.
he knows exactly what you're speaking of. that moment when you're both on the apex, his cock swelling inside you while his thumb rubs against your clit, doing anything he can to elicit a reaction out of you, to increase your pleasure even more.
“cum for me.” rafe commands in a shockingly even voice, even surprising himself as your body stills and then shakes, crumpling forward into rafes strong arms as your pussy clenches around rafes cock, and it's all he needs to release himself, thrusting upwards and spilling inside of your cunt.
you're both breathing heavily as you come down from your high, wrapped up in each others bodies and your own intersecting pleasure before you have to pull away, realization setting in.
“oh my god.” you giggle. “we just fucked in the church.”
“shit.” rafe laughs as well. this is certainly not what he meant to do when entering into the church, yet his soul still feels lighter as he looks at your smile.
“god,” you look up at the ceiling, as if you're talking to him directly. “im so sorry. im going to hell.”
“i guess ill see you there.” rafe chuckles before he's interrupted by a gasp as you pull off of him.
rafe is quick to get himself back together, very aware of the fact that you're still bare under your dress, his cum no doubt dropping down your thigh.
you push open the door to the tiny booth and take a breath of cool air before rafe is quick to follow you out.
“i thought i heard a noise.”
you both freeze as you look up to see the nun walking from across the aisle.
“do you need the priest? he's already retired for the night.”
“no, sister.” you respond, a soft, innocent smile gracing your features as you grasp rafes hand and pull him to continue towards the exit. “see you at service sunday.”
you both let out a laugh as you push open the large wooden doors and flee from any more questions.
“can i at least get your name?” rafe asks as you enter into the night, way lit by moonlight.
“no.” you smile back at him. “but i will have another confession to make. tomorrow. same time.”

Just got reminded of Discord Messages from Andrew Hussie, and I wanna take a moment to post the part that I think is the most interesting.
I think about this a lot. It's something that I agree with, and something that always creeps into the back of my mind when people make these outlandish statements about Hussie - be it their online presence, their persona, or whatever wild beliefs or intentions people project onto them - and the Homestuck fandom's habit of simultaneously idolizing and objectifying them.
There's this weird prevailing notion that nothing Hussie's ever done or said has been sincere, and people tend to act like any obfuscation Hussie's ever done, any jokes they've made, or any steps taken to separate their real life from their online presence is totally inscrutable.
The potent mysticism the fandom applies to Andrew Hussie is just another link in a long chain of dehumanization. It's hard to stop seeing it the second you take a step back to recognize that Hussie's a person, and not just a nebulous, evil force - a thing, an it - that is personally targeting you from beyond the veil, and across the sands of time. It's hard to not realize that Hussie has been turned to a fictional icon - a scapegoat for the raw fandom hyperaggression towards literacy and the idea that stories were not personally curated for their taste and headcanons, a scapegoat for the lowest common denominator within the audience that for some reason turned into the primary consumers of that piece of art - and think that that's kind of weird, actually.

The coven at a club
Agatha: Why are we here? It’s full of people and most of them are men
Rio: Awe come on sweetheart let’s let loose, look at Alice and Jen
Jen and Alice dancing in the crowd with their arms wrapped around each other
Agatha: Hmm they are cute together but I’m not dancing
Rio kissing her: Fine, but we’re drinking
Agatha: You can’t drink? You don’t feel anything
Rio: Sure but I can enjoy you getting drunk
A woman slides up to Rio: hey sweetheart-
Rio: Woah before you think about flirting with me you should know this is my wife
The woman: Your wife? She looks a bit older than you
Rio offended: Okay first of all it would be fine if I had an older wife but she’s actually younger than me
The woman: What?
Agatha: You heard her you hussy, she’s the older woman here
The woman: What are you then? Some kind of witch? *laughs*
Rio revealing her skeletal face: Yes
The woman passes out
Rio: I love when they do that
Agatha: I can’t believe she thought I was older than you
Jen coming over after people start staring
Jen: What the hell are you two doing??
Rio: She called my wife an old lady and tried flirting with me, she deserves it
Alice sighing: Great now we can’t come here anymore
Agatha kissing Rio: Good, let’s go home I need to reward you for sticking up for me
Rio: I love being rewarded
Agatha: Hmm like the good girl you are
Jen: Guys keep it in your pants until you get home
Agatha: No promises

and also, unrelated, what about homestuck?
i think homestuck is worth reading. however, if you do so in 2023, i also really recommend listening to homestuck made this world, a podcast where two media academics read through homestuck while contextualizing it in the context of the fan response and the development of internet cultures both in general and around media specifically. hsmtw while reading along with the hosts is imo a really good way to read homestuck because huge segments of homestuck only really make sense when understood as being in direct and ongoing and sometimes v. v. antagonistic conversation with the fanbase. it's very very interesting in that regard and i think that's the angle from which you can get the most of value out of reading homestuck in 2023.
if you do read homestuck don't read it on the website because the website is Not Very Good. download the unofficial homestuck collection instead. some people will recommend you download the slur replacement patch which edits out the slurs used in the comic--you can do that if you like, i'm not the homestuck cops, but i would strongly advise against it. an integral part of, like, what homestuck Is is imo a vivid snapshot of what the internet was like at the time--it is culturally inseparable from shit like somethingawful and people saying 'retard' to each other all the time and i think something is very strongly lost by reading homestuck with any changes that make you less sharply aware that you're reading something from 2009's internet
is homestuck good? yeah, probably. a lot of it has aged badly. it is racist and ableist and homophobic and all the other bad things the 2009-2016 era internet was. the back half and the ending kind of drag to a halt. but there's some great imagery in it, hussie's talent for character voice is genuinely incredible, and a lot of it is (in my opinion) still funny as all fuck. it's fun to experience and see how many left turns it takes and how many drastic shifts in tone and genre it pulls off. and--again, this is the primary reason i'd recommend reading it--it's a really interesting case study in the embryonic development of a reactive, in-conversation-with-online-reaction media production method

Hi Dr. Tingle,
I just wanted to say, as someone who has been in the Homestuck fandom for a long time, that I'm so sorry people connected to the game and the comic have been so unnecessarily unkind to you, and that they've carried on this bit so far past the point of decency. Homestuck as a piece of media is deeply saturated with a very particular brand of early 2010s online irony, and there are some folks in the fandom who just refuse to let it go.
I think there are a lot of people out there who choose to take your sincerity as mockery, because to do otherwise would force them to confront their own cynicism and irony-poisoning and commit to self reflection in a way that they're not willing to do at this point in their lives. I'm not saying they're inherently bad people, because I don't believe that and (based only on the limited snapshot of yourself that you give to the world) I don't think you would either, only that they're making unkind decisions out of a fear of difference. Your work is both delightfully fun and incredibly meaningful, for me and a lot of others, and I just wanted to say that.
I'm not entirely sure where I'm going with this, so I'll just say that I hope your day is going well if/when you're reading this.
Respectfully,
Ray/cultivating-saplings
P.S. I would classify Hussie as a light scoundrel, in a 'season 1 villain who you can tell is eventually going to move into the heroes' apartment later in the show and hang out eating all of their chips' sort of way.
P.P.S. I like your lab coat :]
i do not have a lot to respond with other than I LIKE THIS MESSAGE and i think you are correct not just with this way of a specific fandom but with a HUGE PORTION OF THE INTERNET and a certain age range who trotted up in online forums and various websites.
there is a deep deep deep irony poisoning going on with some of these buckaroos and i think my trot kind of short circuits that and it is difficult for these folks to grapple with it. i think when you are used to every single thing on the internet being drenched in irony and every big reveal of an online presence being some keyboard goofball 'trotting for the lulz' it can be very difficult to see chuck and just accept that i am sincere. i have empathy for this.
i should also add that, of course, not all irony is bad. too much can be very destructive though.
all i can do is keep creating my art and being sincere about it, and i think the longer that continues to more irony poisoning will drain from some of these veins. that is one way i can prove love is real i think.

Ok so
BinggeYuan but Bingge thinks SY had a girlfriend/has been recently dumped.
I'm not a native english speaker so bear with me, ok?
Post Bingge vs Bingmei.
Bingge has been looking for his kind Shizun but! He's not some knucklehead, this man is smart and knows to analyze a situation before entering a potential fight. So, instead of just appearing in SY's apartment out of nowhere, he begins stalking poor unsuspecting SY to confirm if this is the man he's looking for. I mean they do share some resemblance but is that enough for a kidnapping?
But what does he see intead of a learned man studying or whatever he thought SY would occupy his days with? A woman. A beautiful woman going and coming from his apartment like she lived there (The horror! Kind shizun may not be unspoken for! Will he have to kill this woman? Decisions, decisions)
What's worse is that once the woman appears to come less and less frequently and BingBong decides it's time to stalk from closer SY seems to be absolutely drunk? And crying over his alcohol like an abandoned lover! Did she leave for another? It doesn't matter that SY doesn't know he exists, he can't cry over some hussy while Binghe is right here!! He! Is! Not! Allowed!
Oh, wait! This is the perfect time to pick up his new bride and just skip to his universe! Now new Shizun doesn't have a lover to go back to and can't refuse!
(Binghe, in fact, confirmed this was the man he was looking for in like an afternoon but the jealousy was too strong and he couldn't help but want to know how to destroy their relationship like a true homewrecker and immediately got obsessed)
ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
Shen Yuan just wants to know who's this gorgeous man that interrupted his I-can't-believe-pidw-it's-over-and-the-finale-wasn't-even-good pity party that he's been putting off for weeks because he accidentally almost killed himself on a bun and his sister decided he couldn't be trusted with himself anymore.

okay so i don't want to particularly call out these kinds of headcanons as bad. but they highlight a specific fandom trend ive seen for ages so here goes:
the extended zodiac is not alternian canon, nor zodiac.
i know that's brash for a lighthearted official personality quiz. but i've seen this zodiac presented frequently as the End All of trollsigns -- even claims that all trolls MUST derive from these 288. this is a complete misrepresentation of original canon.
first, obviously, the notion that your personality is determined by your caste is literally just what troll racism is, so the canocity of this test claims racism as truth. second of all, the traits are not even accurate to the trolls we DO see in canon- they're pulled from western zodiac.
the zodiac's also determined by lunar sway; nonsense because alternian trolls don't have lunar sway. it's a "moon a sburb player dreams on", and none of these trolls are sburb players. (i also feel like this should go for aspects, though that is a more controversial opinion)
so yeah, the extended zodiac is inaccurate and purely just fandom sburb personality-type nonsense. but does that really make it noncanon? plenty of stuff on alternia is nonsense.
except... homestuck trolls don't believe that signs are a zodiac that determine their personality.
not only is the idea of signs being related to some sort of personality zodiac never once mentioned by a troll, but the signs are frequently tied to other things that have nothing to do with personality. kanaya equivalents trollsigns to signatures, and later vriska explains the concept to john as being similar to a family crest, bemoaning that trolls have to do much more searching for clues or their ancestry than humans do. cronus also refers to his sign as his signature.
virska does use the phrasing that trolls who have the same sign "have a lot in common", but she also does this explicitly in the context of explaining to john how troll ancestry works, as hussie further notes in the commentary of that page that signs are included in physical/genetic characteristics trolls look to for ancestry clues. even hiveswap, which wants you to believe in the zodiac, concludes that signs are specific to troll surnames and that there are signs outside of it. multiple trolls in homestuck have signs that do not appear in the extended zodiac.
the extended zodiac quiz ≠ the alternian sign alphabet.
alternians wouldn't know what aspects or lunar sways are, nor have personalities equivilant to their signs (feferi and meenah are right there). deciding that trollsigns = personality test is a purely human concept that comes from our western zodiac.
but you know what alternians DO have?
THEY HAD THEIR OWN FUCKING CONSTELLATIONS AND ZODIAC. FROM THEIR OWN CREATORS. THIS WHOLE TIME.
where are the headcanons about troll's placements on THAT zodiac?
#this isn't to say you can't USE the quiz for making fantrolls. it's literally a cute official quiz and you can do whatever you want forever.#this is just to say it's really annoying when people shit on (fan)trolls for NOT following the zodiac. THE ORIGINAL COMIC DIDN'T!#homestuck#hiveswap#friendsim#op#hsmeta

This is gonna sound insane but what if you drew aranepkanrezivrisfef. Sorry in advance.
day 308
this is a challenge i can accept
uhhhh stupid complex ship diagram under the cut
I'm just gonna go around this batshit polycule clockwise.
Nepeta is mutually redrom with both Feferi and Terezi. I just think they're fun. She and Aradia are probably not dating in a formal sense but like, they have fun flirting.
Kanaya and Aradia have a blackrom thing going on which I have gone into in previous posts so I won't belabor the point here. She's also got her one-sided red crush on Vriska which I imagine vacillates black on occasion. I also like the idea of her flirting red with Terezi a little. I think Terezi's a little too loud and a little too entangled with Vriska to maintain Kanaya's interest full time, but yknow. Girls be flirting.
Terezi and Aradia are so fun. I don't think they work out as a longterm thing in either of these quadrants but due to aforementioned Vriska entanglements and the type of stuff that reveals in both of their personalities, I DO think they harbor some red/pale crushes for each other on and off.
I think the most longterm thing for them is probably a lot of Terezi auspisticizing Aradia and Vriska. Vriska, I imagine, has a very intense and very one-sided blackrom crush on Aradia. Aradia really just wishes Vriska would interact with her as little as possible. This being Vriska's actual kryptonite, prompts Vriska to sink to ever lower depths to get Aradia to reciprocate her hatred, and pushes Aradia to consider Really Actually Killing Vriska ever more seriously. Terezi intervenes for everyone's safety because she's the most qualified to do so.
She still has All Of That Other Shit going on with Vriska though which complicates things. It is a multiquadrant mess and I think if andrew hussie proved anything it's that any attempt to extrapolate on what's going on there will result in an 8000+ page webcomic At Minimum. i dont have time for that though. anyway y'all know the deal here.
Lastly VrisFef blackrom is funny. They talk once and it's Feferi sorta messing with Vriska and Vriska being genuinely kind of delighted by it. I imagine it's kind of a surface level back-and-forth for fun kind of thing and they have a lot of fun roasting each other without taking it all that seriously. Which... weirdly i think is probably ideal for a definitionally adversarial relationship with Vriska?? I think the moment you start taking Vriska too seriously is like, when it's fucking OVER for you.

i saw you mentioned that transfem!calliope was practically canon, could you maybe elaborate on that? (im not dissing your hcs btw im just confused on where its suggested in canon)
Hey so it took me a while to get to this just because I wanted to solidify some thoughts about it! Won't go into as much detail wrt my other posts, but we can at the very least start with her handle: uranianUmbra
Uranian is an old-fashioned term, generally used for gay men, though also used in different ways to describe other-gendered people or ways of being, occasionally used as a catch-all similar to how Queer is used today. Its history is complicated and occasionally uncomfortable, as a lot of queer history can be, but notably, one potential root of this idea came from Urning
Now obviously conceptions of gender and sexuality were a lot different then, and I don't want to simplify this, but in Homestuck, it's pretty undeniable that Calliope is a woman stuck in a man's body, and this is likely why Hussie used that very specific word in the first place: to foreshadow the eventual Cherubian Twist.
And not that framing: a woman trapped in a man's body. Cherubs (at least as we are told) have two equal halves who can predominate. But the framing of their entire dynamic makes it very clear that this is Caliborn's body, not Calliope.
Callie's ideal self, in Callie Ohpeee, her Trollsona, is positioned as something to be taken off to reveal her true self. She feels that she needs to conform her exterior to match her interior self, something Caliborn never has to do.
Hell, even as she goes to sleep for the last time, she removes her jacket to reveal Caliborn's shirt underneath. It's his body, not hers.
Not only that, but throughout the story, we see that Callie experiences something close to either dysphoria or body dysmorphia. She hates the way she looks, and affects an especially sweet demeanor in order to not scare people away. She sees herself as a monster because her body becomes the most hideous masculine monster the story has ever known! Literally Lord English.
And shockingly, even though it (in my opinion) handles it poorly, the Epilogues do give us a brief insight into cherub gender, where it basically illuminates that Aranea was kind of talking out of her ass about cherub reproduction, and that Cherubs have no actual biological sex or gender. Meaning that somewhere along the way, Caliborn and Calliope CHOSE their genders, likely influenced by the human and troll internet they were permitted. Callie perhaps forming her own gender in opposition to her brother. This also probably created the ouroboros through which gender became a thing in the first place but thats besides the point. Point is, Callie was likely not a woman until she chose to be a woman. I.e. transgender.
Now the epilogues took it in what I find to be a kind of boring direction, i.e. "well cherubs have no real biological sex so that means I have to be nonbinary now" which is just such a lukewarm take on the imposition of gender but whatever. Point is that Callie is transgender end of story goodnight!!!!!

like it feels obvious that hussie flipped the switch at some point from "vriska is a mutant" to "vriska has some powers associated with her caste" (and as much as people would love to blame this on hiveswap's creatives sullying the brand, aranea connected her powers to her caste all the way back in 2012 - like a day after the homestuck kickstarter first launched. that was 100% hussie's idea) but it is crazy to think that vriska being a mutant was also going to come with spiderman style web shooters at some point........ i do think this adds some plausibility to my theory that prior to coming up with the caste system (which we know kind of developed organically as act 5 was already underway) hussie was thinking of taking a much more comic book x-men approach to troll society
#the part where he says vriska would probably be adversely affected by the vast glub is interesting too#like the fact that the glub seems casteist despite caste not lining up with psychic ability 100%#always seemed like one of the little hitches that was holding the hemospectrum back from Working as a concept#so that literally being the consequence of hussie U-turning his ideas for vriska last minute makes sooooo much sense to me
