I'm actually really okay with Sylvia being much nicer and softer in the 60th anniversary specials then when we last saw her. I think it's great at highlighting that her daughter almost dying really struck her to the core and made her change. I love that she did actually internalize The Doctor's words about how if Donna is important to her she should TELL her that she's important to her. I also love how even though she can be a bit clumsy about it sometimes she's extremely supportive of her granddaughter. Like oh she's not going to make the same mistakes twice (and there's also no fucking way Donna would LET her speak to Rose the way Sylvia used to speak to her). I don't know I just really like to see that she's also changed for the better in the time since we last saw her.
#sylvia noble#donna noble#rose noble#i kind of thought a softening of her wouldn't work for me but i think it actually does really well#like oh. she DOES love her daughter and she made the effort to do better#doctor who

Another year, another absurd amount of books read (296, because if I wasn't reading or writing this year, my brain was on fire). I was asked again for my top books of the year, so here we go: 2023's top 10, in no particular order.
This was the first book I read of the year--literally, vacated the hangout with my wife and sibling-in-laws to sit on their couch upstairs and eat through it. Do you love The Fall of the House of Usher, but wish for a nonbinary protagonist and a lot more mushrooms? This is the book for you! (T. Kingfisher is fucking rad, I made a concerted effort to only list ONE of her books on here, but honorable mention goes to The Twisted Ones for fucking me upppp.)
A gay, post-apocolyptic Pinocchio retelling involving copious robots, found family elements, and a cool-ass treehouse. Klune always hits for me with his unrepentant queer family dynamics and sense of humor. Honorable mention to the first two in the Green Creek series (although that's got a lot more...adult elements in among the werewolves, you've been warned).
I thiiiink I found this through The Homo Schedule podcast (PSA: if you missed out on Jasmin Savoy Brown and Liv Hewson doing a podcast together, now you know better), and it wrecked my shit. Tons of trigger warnings, as this is a memoir about abuse within a queer relationship, but it's so beautifully written. I personally suggest listening to the audiobook first, then standing anxiously behind someone at a book warehouse sale, hoping they'll set down the only paperback copy so you can swipe it.
A fantastical-historical reimagining in which the KKK is filled with literal monsters, and Black women are resistance fighters armed to take them out. Visceral and intense, and truly an excellent horror story.
Just. Such a soft time travel story about a daughter and her father and cherishing the time you get with loved ones. I was thoroughly unprepared for how lovely I found this one. It's very kind.
Spooky house, take-no-shit redhead, protective sibling elements, bisexual recluse with a sword who really just needs a nap. I haven't found a Harrow book yet I haven't slapped five stars on. She's so good at character and atmosphere, and I'm always surprised at how fast her stories race by.
The whole Daevabad trilogy (of which this is the first book) is just magical. A girl from the mortal world finds herself embroiled with the centuries-long prejudices and wars of djinn in a fantastical city. It's one of the rare stories of its kind that does have a love triangle, but doesn't feel like a love triangle; it's far less interested in the insufferable "who gets picked" than it is in the actual horrors these people are both perpetrating and coping with. It's an intoxicating ride.
Fuck You, TERFS: the book. Given that fact, there's obviously quite a lot of transphobia to deal with, but it's very clear that those people are wrong, and it's a super-engaging (and super-oh-god-what-comes-next) witchy time populated with queer, protective, interesting characters I'm excited to see again in the follow-up.
Have you ever wanted a haunted house story with visceral imagery and a rather lovely twist? Gailey has you covered. As much as I enjoyed The Echo Wife, I think I actually loved this one more, and it makes me so excited to see what else they've got up their sleeve.
One of my final reads for the year, when I was just churning through hardcovers at the speed of sound. I love this book. I recognize it won't be for everyone, but it takes so much of what I love about IT (one of my all-time favorite books, despite its flaws) and twists it through the lens of an author who escaped the Mormon church. It's horrific, it's fantastically abstract in places, it explores childhood and memory, imagination and abuse, and almost every character is queer. It's a great "I simply cannot sleep until I've finished" read.
#long post#book recs#t kingfisher#tj klune#carmen maria machado#p djeli clark#emma straub#alix e harrow#s.a. chakraborty#juno dawson#sarah gailey#kiersten white#plenty of others could go on this list as well but i figured i'd keep it to ten this time around#still can't believe i read just shy of 300 books in a year#bonus shoutout to the animorphs series all of which is out on audiobook now (the main books anyway)#and which honestly really do hold up well

Warnings | Mild Language
Pairing | Nurse!Steve x Fem!Reader
Word Count | 3.3k
Masterlist | Steve, Main, Nurse Steve
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Steve Harrington could handle this.
Totally. Absolutely. No doubt about it.
He worked in the ER and constantly handled a myriad of emergencies and situations that had him thinking and needing to use his wits and keep his cool. So…realistically he could handle just about anything.
But he was terrified of the idea of having to watch your daughter alone for the weekend. Despite his assurances that he could manage (he could kick himself for being so stupid), he suddenly felt so unsure and nervous. You had a weekend work conference to go to that would keep you aware for a whole two and half days. You’d been reluctant to leave your husband and your daughter, but he insisted that he’d manage, that he didn’t want you to miss out the conference. And so you’d accepted what he said and left.
Now Steve was home alone with his four-year-old daughter. Fuck.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
He’d managed to survive the first alone without any issues. These were his days off, so he was able to be home and tend to the house along with his daughter. She’d been at preschool until the mid-afternoon, and once he’d picked her up the two of them were having fun. He really did adore his daughter, and more than anything he was nervous he’d somehow mess something up. He wouldn’t; you knew he wouldn’t - he was an amazing, doting, loving father.
He’d even made her favorites for dinner, which currently consisted of dino nuggets and mac and cheese and the two of them watched a movie before it was her bed time. Things had gone off without a hitch; he was sure he could use that to his advantage when he asked about seriously trying for baby number two. Look honey, I kept her alive for three days all by myself - want to have that next baby? Yeah, something like that would work anyway.
He was reading in bed, missing you and the late night conversations the two of you always had. But it wouldn’t be terrible - he could handle two nights on his own. Even if it really sucked. Any worry or self-pity he had was quickly wiped away when he heard the tiny knock at his bedroom door. He’d left it half open and looked up to find his daughter looking at him, the same big, soft brown eyes he had staring back at him.
“Daddy,” she poked her head into the room, looking at him nervously. Steve dogeared his page and put the book on his bedside table before motioning for her to come in. The small girl padded into the room and he instantly spotted the tear tracks on her cheeks as she sniffled.
“Camila,” he cooed softly, moving so he could easily pick her up. She ran the rest of the way over to him, throwing herself into his arms. He picked her up and settled her in his lap, tenderly wiping away the few remaining tears, “oh baby. What’s wrong, Cami girl?”
“I don’t feel good,” she pouted, her bottom lip trembling with effort as she tried not to cry again. She reminded him so much of you, how resilient and independent you were. She hated asking for help, wanting to do as much for herself as a four-year-old could, so he knew something was up if she was coming to him late at night when she should have been sleeping.
“Oh sweetheart,” he brushed a few rogue curls out of her face before kissing her chubby little cheeks, “what’s wrong? Why don’t you feel good?”
“My tummy hurts,” she frowned, “and I feel all cold, even with my blankies.”
As Steve listened to her, he placed his hand against her forehead and frowned when he felt how warm she was. He paused for a moment and inwardly groaned when he remembered that the flu was going around right. It usually disproportionately affected children, especially school age children. And here she was, going to preschool almost every day with a bunch of other kids. She’d had her flu shot, but there was only so much that would do and so many precautions they could take.
“I’m sorry you’re not feeling well, my love,” he pulled her onto his chest so he could hold her properly. Cami buried her little face into the crook of his neck as he soothingly rubbed her back up and down, “I’ll take care of you, okay? Daddy’s got you.”
“Okay,” she sounded so feeble and meek that it broke his heart. He wished he was the one having to experience this, not his baby girl.
“I’m going to get up and get a few things, okay?” he whispered softly, “you can sleep in bed with me tonight, does that sound good?”
“Yeah,” he delicately moved her so she was on the side of the bed that you normally occupied, covering her with the soft blankets, “can you bring me Peter?”
Peter was the stuffed bunny that she’d had since the day she was born. She’d gotten it from her aunt Robin and loved it more than any other toy, “of course. I’ll be back in a few minutes, Camila.”
She murmured something, burrowing her face into the pillow, seeking some sort of relief. Steve looked at her for a moment and shook his head sadly; this was his baby girl and she was sick. He couldn’t do anything about it except try to make her feel better while she fought it off.
He went down the hall to her bedroom and grabbed her bunny before stopping in the bathroom and grabbing a thermometer, some acetaminophen, and then made his way into the kitchen. He grabbed a few water bottles to bring with him but paused before leaving, staring at the phone. Before he thought too much of it, he grabbed the cordless headset and dialed the hotel room number you’d given him. He hoped you weren’t sleeping yet; he didn’t have to wake you on top of it all.
It rang a few times before he sighed in relief when he heard your soft voice, “hello?”
“Hi angel,” he ran a hand over his tired face, smiling when he heard your little sigh of happiness, “did I wake you honey?”
“Hey my love,” you’d only begin for the day but you already missed him and Camila more than you cared to admit, “I just got out of the shower. Stevie…I miss you.”
“I miss you more than you can ever know,” he admitted with a warm chuckle, “god, it’s been less than a day and I feel so lost without you.”
“I’ll be home soon,” you promised, your heart clenching softly at the realization of just how much you missed the two of them, “what’s wrong, love?”
“It’s Cami,” he admitted after a few moments of tangible silence, “she woke up and said she’s not feeling good. I think she’s got the flu, I was just about to take her temperature and see if I can make it so she can at least get some sleep.”
“Oh no,” your maternal instinct immediately ramped up; you wished you were home with the two of them, “poor little thing. Do you want-”
“No, no, no honey,” he immediately shook his head as if you were there, “I don’t want you to worry, or jump on a plane to come home. I just wanted to let you know, but I’ll take care of our baby.”
“I know you will,” you laughed softly, “I don’t think there’s anyone I’d trust more. If anything changes or you need me…let me know. I’ll be there in a heartbeat.”
“I’d expect nothing less,” he promised, “I also just wanted to hear your voice…”
“Such a sap, Stevie,” you teased, but honestly? You missed his - all of him - too. The two of you were such suckers for each other, “it’s not too much longer. I’ll let you go, okay? Try and get some rest, there’s no use worrying about something we can’t change - I know you’ll take good care of her. I love you both so much. Tell Cami I said hi, yeah?”
“Of course,” he promised softly, “I will. I love you too, honey. I’ll talk to you tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow,” you confirmed, “good night, Stevie.”
He returned the sentiment before hanging up the phone and setting it down with a small sigh. He felt better after talking to you, but he still worried about his daughter; he was always a worrier. He couldn’t help it, it was just a part of who he was.
He gathered up the supplies he had gathered before heading back to his bedroom. When he quietly popped inside, he was relieved to see that Cami had fallen asleep. Even if it wasn’t for long, he wanted her to be able to get some rest. Steve placed Peter the bunny next to her so when she woke up she’d have him. The rest of his supplies went on the bedside table.
He gently climbed back into bed, doing his best not to disturb the small girl and snuggled up next to her. Realistically he knew that he should be able to sleep just fine and she would wake him up if and when she needed him. He also knew that this would be a sleepless night for him. Camila had never really been sick before and while he was used to dealing with sick children at work, it felt different now that it was his daughter. It felt horrible.
Exhaling softly, he tenderly brushed her hair out of her face before grabbing his book to read. Might as well do something with his time, right?
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
“Daddy?” he’d noticed her stirring and was already prepared to give her his full attention. He glanced at the alarm clock and saw that it was nearing four in the morning. His poor baby girl. She turned around so she could look at him, her eyes dazy and face slightly flushed, “‘m thirsty, Daddy.”
“I’ve got some water for you, Cami girl,” he cracked the top of one of the water bottles before carefully handing it to her. She took it in both hands and chugged it down, finishing almost the entire bottle before Steve slowed her down, “slowly sweetheart, you don’t want to make your tummy ache from too much at once.”
“Okay,” she handed him back the bottle before she realized that Peter was next to her. She squealed in delight before grabbing the stuffed bunny and clutched it tightly to her chest, “you brought Peter!”
“He was missing you too,” he smiled gently at her, “can I take your temperature? And I’ve got something to help you feel a little better.”
“I’m cold,” she pouted as he grabbed the thermometer and stuck it in her mouth. She already knew the drill and had opened her mouth. Steve tutted at her lightly, already planning to grab her a few more blankets that should help. He pulled the thermometer out when it beeped and read the little screen. 101. A mild fever but nothing too bad, fortunately.
“You’ve got a little bit of a fever,” he grabbed the acetaminophen and water bottle, “this will help and I’ll get you some more blankets today? I want you to rest and your fever should break soon.”
“I miss Mommy,” she pouted as he popped the medicine into her mouth and handed her the water to finish off. It wasn’t that she didn’t love Steve; oh no, she absolutely adored her father almost more than anything, but she loved you too. She was used to having both of you around.
“Me too,” he agreed, “I talked to Mommy while you were sleeping and she said to tell you hello and that she loves you. But she’ll be home soon.”
“Good,” she gave him a firm little nod, “can we have dino nuggets later?”
He couldn’t help but laugh at her lightly before kissing the side of her head, “we’ll see, Cami. Right now I want you to try and get some sleep, okay? Once you’re up we can see about getting some nuggets and a nice warm bath.”
“Will you stay with me?” she looked at him with big, soft doe eyes and he nodded. As if there was anywhere he would rather be.
“I will,” he helped to tuck her back under the covers, making sure Peter was with her, “I’m going to grab a few more blankets and I’ll be right back.”
She was already fast asleep by the time Steve made it back with a new load of blankets. He bundled her up as best as he could, hoping her fever would break soon. All he could do was keep an eye on her wait.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
The next two days passed in a much smoother manner than that first night. Cami was about to sleep off her fever and slowly began to feel better with each passing hour. Of course, it probably didn’t hurt that he was indulging her every whim and fancy to the best of his ability. He wouldn’t call his daughter spoiled…she just wasn’t told no very often. But on the flipside, she rarely asked for things and was always polite and kind to everyone. She was a good kid, after all.
But that didn’t mean that he wasn’t more than ready for you to come home. He was practically counting down the hours - you were too. You’d been a little sneaky and told him that you’d be home a few hours later than you really would be, wanting to come home and surprise the two of you.
When you did, when you finally made it home and let yourself into the house as quietly as you could, you found the two of them at the kitchen table, eating exactly what you expected - man n cheese and dinosaur nuggets. It was such a simple but beautiful sight that melted your heart.
“Hello my loves,” you whispered as you set your bag down. Both of them turned to look at you, eyes widening in excitement before rushing over to you.
“Mommy!”
“Sweetheart,” felt a small pair of arms wrapped around your legs and another pair of arms around your shoulders as your two favorite people enveloped you with love, “you’re home early!”
“Surprise,” you leaned in and kissed him softly, wishing you could have more, more, more but remembering that your daughter was still right there. You’d have all the time with him later, “I love you.”
“I love you,” he whispered in return before picking up Cami and balancing her on his hip so she could get a kiss too. You brushed her rogue, wild curls out of her face before pressing big kisses to her cheeks.
“Hi Cami girl,” she looked so happy to see it that it made your heart melt, “I’m so glad you’re feeling better. Daddy took good care of you, huh?”
“Mhmm,” she grinned happily, “we even got to stay up and watch princess movies!”
“Oh you did, huh?” you looked at your husband, who gave you a sheepish smile accompanied with a shrug that said what can you do? You touched his cheek affectionately, “I’m glad you’re feeling better, my little love, and I’m glad you took such good care of her, my love.”
“Do you want some nuggies, Mommy?” she asked excitedly and you couldn’t turn down that adorable face, “we made lots!’
“I couldn’t think of anything better.”
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Steve was already in bed, eagerly waiting for you as you finished your little night time routine. He hadn’t realized just how much he’d miss just sleeping next to you. But then you appeared, all big smiles, soft eyes, and cozy pajamas that consisted of a pair of old shorts and one of his sweaters. It was easily his favorite sight in the entire world.
“You’re so beautiful,” you playfully rolled your eyes before walking over to him, taking the outstretched hand that he offered you. He threaded your fingers together before pulling you into his lap. He leaned against the headboard as you straddled his waist and rested against his bent legs, “god, I missed you so much. And you were only gone for three days.”
“I missed you too,” you admitted, reaching over and gently tracing along some of his freckles. You liked mapping them out with your fingers, and even more so with your lips, “next time there’s a conference or anything that requires me to be gone, I’m bringing you both.”
“Same here,” he laughed softly, taking your hand and bringing your hand to his lips and reverently kissing your palm, “three days was too long.”
“But at least I know that the two of you are able to survive without me,” you teased and a pretty flush of pink rose up in his cheeks, “you did great, Stevie. Seriously.”
“I will admit that I was a little nervous,” he confessed quietly as you giggled at him, “it’s a lot of pressure taking care of a young, sick kid on your own!”
“I know,” you acknowledged, “but you did wonderfully.”
He hummed in content as the two of you looked at each all starred-eyed before exchanging soft, sweet kisses. He pulled back after a few moments and you could see that there was something on his mind. You tutted lightly before putting a finger under his chin and turning his face up to yours, “I’ve been thinking…”
“Uh oh..”
“Hey,” he gently squeezed your side as you squirmed in grasp, “Cami’s in preschool now, and we’ve discovered that I can manage a kid on my own for days…I-I guess I’m just kind of wondering what your thoughts are about trying for that second kid?”
Your face lit up and Steve took that as a good sign. You were silent for a moment before reaching for his hand and settling it on your tummy, “how about in like seven months?”
“Oh,” his eyebrows rose in confusion. It took him a second to process but he nodded; it was you that was doing all the hard work realistically. He could easily hold off on trying for a while, “okay, angel. We’ll start trying in the new year.”
“Stevie,” you were laughing now; he was so smart and so wonderful, but he was so oblivious at times, “I didn’t mean…waiting. I meant…how would you feel about meeting your new daughter or son in seven months?”
“I…what?” his mouth opened and closed a few times and then it hit him, “you’re pregnant?”
“Yeah,” you confirmed softly and his whole expression practically melted into heart eyes and a big lovesick smile, “I found out a few weeks ago…I’ve just been wanting for the perfect opportunity to tell you. And I guess now is as good of a time as any. Surprise, my love!”
“Wow,” he exhaled shakily before laughing you into his chest and kissing you softly, “what a perfect surprise. That’s…fuck, that’s wonderful. I love you so much. You, Cami, and the new baby.”
“Blob Harrington number two,” you teased, causing him to groan softly. You’d referred to Cami as Blob throughout most of your pregnancy because she just looks like a blob! He nudged his nose with his before brushing his lips over yours again, “I love you too, Steve. So, so much.”
“Oh my clumsy girl,” affectionate fondness laced his words, “I’m going to be thoroughly outnumbered. Three girls against me? Unfair.”
“How do you know it’s gonna be a girl?”
“I just know,” he insisted cheekily, “it’ll be a girl.”
“Oh,” you stook out your tongue at him, “wanna bet on it? I say it’s a boy.”
“You’re on,” he held out his hand, “it’s a girl. Terms of winning to be determined.”
“Just…don’t ruin it for yourself or me this time,” he had accidentally spilled the beans with Cami, not that you minded, “so no close looks for you at ultrasounds.”
“I’ll accept your terms,” he agreed as you shook his hand, “I love you, angel.”
“I love you more, Steve.”
“Impossible.”

something there (kiri sully x metkayina fem! reader)
contents: fluff, wlw flirting, shy kiri, black cat x golden retriever energy, neteyam + lo’ak being supportive brothers, kiri’s crushing HARD, wlw crushing <3
wrd count: 1.5k
a/n: hii my loves!! sorry i’ve been gone for a while, i was going through a breakup and wasn’t in the mood to write any romantic stuff, but i’m back now!! and feeling much better <3
✮ ✮
it’s been four months since the sully’s arrived.
the kids have started to grow accustomed to life on awa’atlu.
olo’eyktan tonowari’s daughter has especially grown closer to the siblings, having close relationships with all of them.
except kiri. y/n wanted to be friends with her, admiring her beauty and curiosity of the island but she never made an effort to talk to her.
because the first thing kiri noticed was that y/n became friends with neteyam first.
those two became best friends first, having many things in common.
one day, neteyam and y/n were hunting together in the reef and they began talking.
“hey, what’s the matter with your sister?” she asked him while pulling up a fishing net from the water.
they stood in the shallow water, observing the life that scattered all over the sand below.
“what do you mean?” he replied, helping her pick up the net.
“like… is she shy on purpose? she’s barely said two sentences to me since you got here.” she continued.
he laughs softly. “i’m serious, is something wrong with her or does she just hate me?”
“she doesn’t hate you. i think she actually really likes you but is intimidated by you.” he said.
“what? i’m not intimidating.” she scoffed.
neteyam side eyes her and scoffs quietly to himself. he thought she was aware but evidently, she wasn’t.
“yes, you are. i didn’t get a smile out of you until i spoke to you. up until then, you just glared at us.” he chuckled.
y/n sighs and turns around to throw the fishing net again.
“she seems nice. i just wish she didn’t look at me like she hated me.” y/n said, catching neteyam’s eyes as he stepped next to her.
“she’s like that with new people.” he shrugs.
“but i’m not new! you’ve known me for four months!” she laughed out.
“to her, you are!” he says. y/n sighs out and watches the water in front of her.
“i’ll put in a good for you later tonight. maybe then she’ll pay some attention to you.” he says.
y/n gasps as she looked up at him. “you’re the best!”
“don’t thank me till you get a date with her.” he chuckled, nudging her shoulder. she laughs softly.
the two friends continue to fish for their families before heading home later to eat them in the afternoon.
as neteyam sat in his bungalow with lo’ak and kiri, eating and talking, neteyam brought up y/n as casually as possible.
“y/n helped me catch all this, you know. she’s so cool.” he said.
kiri says nothing, just looks at him.
“oh yeah, she’s helping me make my own crossbow tomorrow.” lo’ak mentioned.
“oh cool. you should go with him, kiri.” neteyam suggested.
she stared at him for a moment, wondering why he would ask her to do that. and she asks him.
“why would i do that?” she asks, laughing almost.
neteyam keeps the act up and shrugs. “you could get to know her better. she’s nice.”
“i guess. she seems kind of like a mean girl..” kiri mumbled.
“she’s not mean! she’s super nice, i promise.” he responded.
“she doesn’t care i exist neteyam. i’d rather stay here.” she shrugged.
“fine, i’m telling dad.” he said quickly. lo’ak rolls his eyes. he’s heard that sentence in his life more times than he can count.
“fine! god, i hope you drown..” she muttered.
neteyam smiled to himself, now knowing there’s nothing else left for him to do except watch as their romance blossoms.
a couple hours pass and kiri was in her room in the bungalow and lo’ak was about to go into his when neteyam pulled him aside.
“hey, i need a favor from you.” he whispered.
“depends.” lo’ak responded.
“i’m trying to get kiri and y/n together. so, tomorrow, tell her dad kept you busy with something and you can’t make it. but don’t tell kiri, she’s still gonna go with y/n.”
lo’ak shrugs. “uh.. okay.”
“thanks. and don’t say anything!” he scolded.
“i won’t! i can keep a secret.” lo’ak argued.
to be clear, lo’ak cannot keep a secret to save his life. he’s too much of a gossip.
so. lo’ak was struggling being anywhere near kiri.
the next day comes and kiri is walking down the beach to meet up with y/n. she wasn’t worried about showing up alone because lo’ak lied and told her he’d be there later because their dad had asked him to do something.
kiri met up with y/n, who was fixing up her own crossbow while sitting comfortably on a woven knitted blanket draped over a boulder.
kiri watched her in the morning sun, as she calmly sharpened her knife that she used to make the said crossbow.
she starts to fidget with her fingers, hesitating before approaching her, but y/n looks up.
she smiled at kiri and waved her over. kiri sighs and walks over to her.
“good morning, kiri.” y/n gets up and gives kiri a kind hug.
“oh, morning, y/n.” she said, nervously hugging her back.
y/n pulls away, thinking she shouldn’t have hugged kiri with how tense she was.
“uhm, is your brother coming?” she asked her.
“yeah. but our dad asked something of him so he will be with us later.” kiri explained.
“ah.. okay. well, we can get started.” y/n smiled kindly. kiri blushed at her kind demeanor and followed her to sit on the boulder.
y/n gave kiri all the materials to make a crossbow and showed her step-by-step how to put it together and how to decorate it so others will know it’s hers.
“this reminds me of when au’nung taught me how to make mine when i was younger.” y/n smiled softly.
“oh yeah?” kiri muttered.
“mhm. i had carved a hole in the handle and tied a chain of seashells and pearls through it. it broke off a couple years later when i threw it on the floor too aggressively.” she chuckled.
“that happened to me once too. with my bow.” kiri chuckled.
y/n looks up excitedly, seeing kiri finally contributing to the conversation.
“oh really?”
“yeah. lo’ak and i were arguing over something and when i went home, i threw my bow at a tree and it snapped somehow and i had to make a new one.” kiri smiled.
she looms up and sees y/n staring at her, making her quickly try to end it.
“so.. yeah, i learned not to throw stuff around when i’m in a mood.” she muttered.
“not me. my siblings make sure to keep me away from shore when i’m mad so i can’t pick up any rocks to throw.” she shrugs.
kiri laughs softly at her joke. y/n smiles heading her laugh, it was like a little victory for her.
they finish up making the crossbows and y/n takes kiri to the outskirts of the jungle to test it out.
“uhmm.. oh here.” y/n pointed out a fruit tree with colorful fruit hanging down from the branches.
they stepped back far away enough so jodi could test out her new bow.
at the same time, neteyam and lo’ak were looking for fruit for their family to snack on.
they carried baskets against their hips as they walked and talked together.
“oh shit, look.” lo’ak chuckled. he pointed at his sister and his friend.
neteyam gasps and drops his basket.
“okay. go home, find dad’s tablet and run back here as fast as you can.” neteyam whispered.
“what? why?” lo’ak asks.
“so i can take a picture, hurry up! before they leave.” neteyam said.
lo’ak rolls his eyes but does it anyway while neteyam sits down by a tree trunk and waits for him.
“did you hear something?” y/n asked kiri, looking around the jungle.
“uh.. no.” kiri said softly.
“oh. alright, anyways. just pull this top thing back to get the arrow ready.” she instructed.
“see how the thing pulls back like a normal bow and arrow? it’s just the same but smaller and easier.” she said.
“yeah, i wonder why we never had these in the forest.” she asks softly.
“are you guys serious about traditions?” y/n asks, putting her hands on her hips.
“..yeah.”
“that’s probably why.” y/n smirked.
kiri smiled softly at her.
once they had finished and proved kiri’s new weapon worked, they caught a couple fruit and y/n walked kiri home.
“i had fun today.” kiri said softly.
“you did?”
“yeah. to be perfectly honest, i didn’t think you liked me. or even cared that i was here.” kidi admitted, turning to face y/n as they stood outside her hut.
“how could you think i don’t care? i was interested in you the moment you came here.” y/n responded. she didn’t know how it sounded until she saw kiri’s blushing face.
“oh.. so uhm..”
“yeah, uh.. i should get home. but we will hang out soon. maybe later tonight.” y/n said quickly. she was wondering why her heart was beating so fast.
“okay. bye, y/n.” kidi nodded. they stare awkwardly before turning away suddenly.
one hurriedly rushing down the woven dock and the other quickly jumping into the hut and scurrying into her room.
“kiri!”
“what, neteyam!?”
“i got somethin to show youuu…”

Since the Beginning - Midoriya Izuku
Warning: body shaming, insecurity about looks, family issues, suggestive
Check out my masterlist for more!
Having a prohero boyfriend is really a double edged sword, especially when he's the successor of the Symbol of Peace. Deku, the greatest hero, Midoriya Izuku, is a man larger than life. And to stand next to him, to be loved by him, is an honour and a stain in itself.
You're known as 'His Girlfriend'. The luckiest girl on Earth, a position that many covert for you sit on a pile of riches that he so graciously gifted you. Not only that, Izuku is the ideal man. Compassionate, brave, powerful, smart, a little goofy and nerdy, he's the man every parent wants their daughter to bring home. And that honour belongs to you.
But having Deku as your boyfriend, means that you must also meet the world's standard. A girl that's equally as friendly, sweet, beautiful, successful, an ideal woman for the best man out there. And every day you look in the mirror with the thought, 'Gosh, why does he even like me?', so does everyone else.
Every time the two of you are out in public and get photographed, there'll always be a comment about your weight, your pimples, how it's always Izuku pulling his card out, how you don't treat his fans with respect. And your boyfriend does his best to fight back in the ways he can. In the rare interviews he'll always mention the love of his life, the woman supporting him from behind, who puts up with the 24/7 limelight and harsh critics of those who know nothing. He even enlists the help of his old classmates who try their best to change society's mind. But it only makes you feel more pathetic, that Izuku does so much for you and you can't even present yourself better.
It takes a long, burning, tearful shower for you to finally resolve to change. With a bright smile, you talk to Izuku about wanting to be more healthy and start volunteering.
He cups your cheeks, "Sweetheart, if it's about-", "Izuku, please...just let me have this", and your eyes swirl with so much desperation he can only say yes.
But the green haired man makes a strict schedule for you to follow, he refuses to watch you please the world and drop dead. He asks Ochako to exercise with you, where you start on light cardio and Pilates. Bakugo reluctantly sends you a few tips on healthier eating and even spends a day at your house meal prepping. Izuku doesn't know about this because the villain-like hero would burn your house down. He even asks his old teacher, Thirteen, to help you find volunteer work.
The world's opinion of you change when photos of you helping out at homeless shelters and after villain attacks. You also change as well, he notices. You've become more social, going out more and posing for the cameras rather than hiding from it. He sees your regular posts and stories at the gym, making healthy snacks, promoting charities, going out for brunch with the U.A. Class 1 girls. Izuku couldn't be more relieved. So many nights he has had nightmares of you taking dieting too far or working until you end up in the hospital, trying to become the perfect woman and breaking yourself in the process.
But change takes a long time and no matter what you do, the world will always bring up your past. And you've learnt to live with it, to understand that what you're doing is more than enough. However, that doesn't mean those comments don't hurt. Especially when it comes from the people whose words mean the most.
....
Izuku has met your parents many times. For the three years you two have been together, the hero has always made an effort to know your parents and get along with them. Your family also loves him, your mother is dreaming about the day she sees you in a wedding dress to him. The atmosphere is always warm, comforting, peaceful.
Until the small comments start to sneak in.
"Oh look at how skinny and pretty you are now!"
"Now my son in law will have no problem picking you up!"
"You should've seen her in high school, she would've weighed more than you right now!"
"If only she started dieting earlier! I kept telling her to, but she never listened and now look at her!"
Dieting, exercise, skinnier, prettier, smaller.
Of course you fire back at her. It's all jokes, but Izuku can see how much those words hurt. And every time, the ride back home is silent and you deep in thoughts. And every time after you come out of the shower, he sees you observe yourself in the mirror. Your eyes scan like society once did, looking for the imperfections. Wondering how you can erase the past, so that the world only remembers the pretty and perfect version of you.
His heart breaks, because why are your efforts never enough? He walks in and makes himself known, you jump before giving a soft smile. Izuku tries to return it and quickly digs his face into the crook of your neck. His large and scarred hands quickly hoist you up while you squeak.
As he carries you to the bed, Izuku has so many thoughts going through his head. You've always been pretty, ever since the moment he met you. He's always been able to pick you up, a hero like him should have no problem picking up boulder let alone a person. And he has seen you in high school pictures where you look so cute, he wished he met you earlier. And no, you shouldn't have started dieting earlier. Knowing the situation you were in, you would've only gained an eating disorder.
Dieting, exercise, skinnier, prettier, smaller. He didn't do any of this just to hear that from the people who should've supported you. As he laid you down, Izuku takes you in with trembling eyes. You give a smile back and beckon him closer.
Izuku has always been careful with you. His rough hands ghost your body knowing the damage they could cause, his lips only leave light hickies because he never wants to see you in bruises even if they're from love, he's always wary about the weight he puts on you and your stamina compared to his. But the nights you return from your parents are gentle as a feather. Your body becomes his temple, and he'll never stop worshipping. He oozes love and forces you to soak it up, the love that they should've had for you.
It's ironic when Izuku wants to be so gentle and loving, because it sometimes leads to him become more rough. He has so much to give that he can't see that you're overstimulated. He wants you to see that he loves you unconditionally, resulting in deep hand marks and love bites. Izuku wants you to understand that he's always on your side, so he'll hold you down and do his best to leave you quivering and blank.
....
But regardless of how he feels about your parents, Izuku knows he can't do anything about them. Because he knows that blocking your family isn't easy as it sounds.
"They're...it's just when it comes to this, they can become...off", you whisper trying to calm Izuku down, "Other than that, they're really good."
He knows, he can see it. How you're always sticking to your mother and how she always has your favourite food and snacks at home. How you melt in your father's arms and the way he monitored Izuku when they first met. Izuku sees the photographs hanging on the walls filled with parental love, the injury stories where it sounds like they were just in as much pain as you, the fights when they became a pair of bears.
Izuku also knows that in its own fucked up sense, they say that for your own good. Because he's heard you and your mother on the phone, how hateful she sounds of the media that talked about your weight and looks. Your father used to hate him for bringing you into a world that you never suited, until he finally saw Izuku as a man who loved you.
So Izuku will respect them and be civil. Because they raised you into the person you are today, the most loveliest person that he is honoured to be with forever. Because in their own ways, they also poured love and care into the soul to form it this way.
But that doesn't mean he'll take it lying down. You're his woman, and he'll protect you the way he did when society attacked you. He'll make sure they understand that their words have weight to them, and crush those words until they disintegrate to dust.
He'll do anything to show that you've always been beautiful since the beginning.
Hi Lovelies, meet Izuku the greenest flag ever~!
I hope you guys felt all of the emotions poured into this fic and how much Izuku loves you! I really wanted to portray the struggle of loving your parents and understanding how much they love you, but just having that one issue that always breaks the peace. For the girlies out there living with body shaming, hold your head up high because you have been beautiful since the beginning!
I'll see you another time ♡(˃͈ દ ˂͈ ༶ )♡

The dark side of envy (Joe Burrow x Burrow!sister x Patrick Mahomes)
Tw: envy, hatred, anger, resentment, displays of narcissism and psychopathy
NCAA Championship 2017- Clemsom x Alabama - Tampa, Florida
Janine had just won the college football championship for the Alabama Crimson. It had been a fantastic season for the young wide receiver. She walked towards her parents with the trophy in her hands, all proud, seeing her brother in the middle of the way, all smiles with open arms to welcome her.
-Jan, I can't believe it, I'm so happy for you, you're a champion. - Joe tries to hug her, but she walks right past him, pushing her arm hard against his chest.
-Get out of here, you little shit. - She strode towards her parents.
Joe stood there, embarrassed and not knowing what to do.
-Oh my God, daughter, I'm so proud, you won the college championship. - Her mother shakes her hard, before she and her father give her a triple hug.
-Now that we have a champion, next year we'll all be in the stands, cheering for Joseph. - She just forced a smile at her father's comment.
CURRENT DAYS
A lot has happened between Janine and Joe, her twin brother, but of all these many things, the most important one, without a doubt, was his effort to be with his sister, to show her that he loves her and wants to be part of her life.
Janine, on the other hand, is the kind of person who, when she realizes she is good at something, uses it to bring everyone down to earth. She has become the most poisonous and manipulative person Joe has ever met in his life and she loves being like that, the kind of unbearable person who only shows herself like that when everyone around her is already tied down enough to her and her ego.
Her words at first made him laugh, his mother would say “It’s just her way”, “She loves you”, “You are siblings, she would never hate you”.
But it’s not quite like that.Janine has never been able to see anyone being better than her and when she does, it’s better that that person is someone she really loves.
Like her husband Patrick.
Someone who is hard to overcome, hard to shake, hard to deal with and hard to hate.
She knew she couldn't compete with him, so why not combine business with pleasure?
Mahomes fell in love with her strength, her desire to be the best in everything she does and the way she is with her family.
At least until they get married.
-We finally have someone we can proudly call a quarterback- She boasts, still wearing a veil, with a glass of champagne in her hands, giving her husband a peck on the lips, who laughs awkwardly.
Joe, sitting at the table with his parents, heard it and started laughing, hoping it was just a joke, but it wasn't. Janine hates him.
As the years went by, the annoyance became more and more explicit at family dinners, making birthdays, the rare holidays they could spend together, a living hell for his parents, siblings, nephews, and husband, for everyone except Janine, who enjoys watching her brother with his head down, without the courage to retaliate, because he wouldn't be able to say a single word that he knew would hurt her, out of respect for his sister and love.
Actually, Joe never understood what love in a family is. Some people are easily lovable, while others, like Janine, even though he had more reasons to hate them, just thinking about it made him feel incredibly guilty and his conscience weighed on him. She was his sister and all she had to do was receive her love, no matter how much it cost him.
-You need to listen to this new Kendrick Lamar song, this guy never tires of changing the rap industry- Joe says, ecstatic as always, when the subject is his favorite genre.
-You again with that low-level and derogatory noise, please improve. Although what could I expect from you, right Joseph- His smile died and so did the conversation and smiles at the table.
-Jan please, you are married to a black man, you know better than anyone how important this song is for the whole society, that the lyrics talk about real problems, not stupid love affairs- He tries to keep the conversation going.
-Any John Lennon song already does the job, we are in the 21st century, no one is an idiot- she replied.
Seeing Patrick uncomfortable, she sat down next to him with her plate made, now she would need to disguise the situation.
-But of course if Patrick likes it I respect it, especially because he listens to artists and not gangsters.
They weren't just arguing about music.
-I've been thinking about maybe finishing my studies, maybe changing fields, it might be good for the future- Joe confessed to Jamie, his older brother.
-Joe, you're almost 30, do you really think now is the time to think about that? You wanted to waste your time with these ridiculous courses, you don't even have enough intellect to do anything else- Janine makes the comment. Dan, the middle brother, immediately snorts.
-You talk as if you were a respected journalist, when all you do is spread fake news on social media, what kind of intellect do you have, Janine Burrow? It's because of people like you that others hate journalists. Give us a break, girl- The brother stomped off.
-Far be it from me to be bored enough to judge other people's lives, especially since I have real problems to think about, but it's very interesting how you think that finance is less important than marketing. Don't forget that your beloved husband didn't graduate, but your brother has a master's degree, something that not even you have. - It was Jamie's turn to throw it in her face.
-I think it's better to focus on your problems, Jamie, and go pay your mortgage. - The brother's hatred is visible, from the looks on his face they would easily kill each other right there, in the Burrow family's living room.
But nothing in the world moved Joe more than when she decided to criticize the only thing that Joe was most proud of in the world, not a football trophy or a degree, but his foundation.
A foundation he wanted the whole family to be a part of and help out equally, something that would be something from his family to the others, but someone refused to be a part of it.
-Joseph, I've been thinking, I want to make a photo album for the foundation of all these moments we've spent together and most of all, it would be really cool if we had an annual photo with whoever wanted to participate, to show how many lives we've touched, it would be really cool- Robin focuses partly on the Thanksgiving pie and partly on what the Burrow siblings are doing in the kitchen, to make sure nothing gets out of hand.
-I was thinking about doing some TV commercials with the kids to try to get more visibility and donors. With that, I believe we could extend the donations to the state. I feel really bad about only being able to help our hometown. I even spoke to Jamie and he loved the idea. - Joe explained, trying not to get dirty with all the seasonings he puts in his food.
-It will be really good. We can see which kids feel comfortable speaking out, if their parents allow them to participate, and then we can put it on TV. If the feedback is positive, we can even get support from interested companies. - The older brother explained to Robin, who agreed excitedly.
-Doing charity and advertising? If you want to be seen so much, put a watermelon on your head and go naked in the street. It had to be Joseph's idea. He's trying to buy sainthood. If you show charity to everyone, it's better not to do it. - Janine hurt him in the worst way.
-That way we'll get more donors, more interested people who will help. - He tried to explain.
-I have projects like that and I don't need anyone to know when I make deals with other people, I also don't need anyone to know, I just go there and ask them to see the project and help. You're ridiculous, you only think about fame, did you know that I even have a project with the NFL itself? - She boasts.
The silence in the kitchen takes over.
-I encourage girls to dream and maybe make it to the NFL - she was soon interrupted by Jamie.
-Do you know what your mistake was Robin? Joseph not being Josephine, because she would beat Janine to a pulp - Jamie leaves the plate she is making, going to the sink to wash his hands.
-Or rather, my intellect isn't that bad, it's your fault, dad, because the man is the one who defines sex. Besides, it's your fault that this girl is like this, because you didn't raise her right, you just did everything she told you to do, you two are wimps and now we have to put up with this bitch talking shit - Jamie leaves in a hurry with Jim, his father, calling him.
-Don't beg me to come back, I'm almost 50 years old, I don't need this shit, I'm going back to my family who are saner - He shouted, leaving the house.
-Janine, this behavior is unacceptable and you know it - Robin tries to correct her daughter.
Although Jamie always gets on her case about what she does to Joe, he is her favorite brother and is always around, because for some reason the anger goes away.
For this very reason, Joe always felt forced to do the same, but for Jamie, who was never offended, it was easy to forgive.
And when her mother got stressed about the situation and called her to talk and take it easy on Joe, she gives her best acting.
-Joseph has always been the favorite, you always loved him more than me, because I'm a girl, you always celebrated everything he does and never cared about what I do- She opened his mouth and started to cry.
Jim dried her face, which began to burn, and when he felt his chest tighten, seeing his little daughter sad, he quickly went to her and hugged her tightly, while Robin remained firm.
-You know better than anyone that we always did everything equally for both of us. When you won the NCAA, we threw a party and kept Joe hopeful that his ring would arrive, and when he won, we threw a party and kept you hopeful that one day greater victories would come. So swallow your tears, because you have nothing to complain about us, girl, not in that sense, we always did everything equally.
But none of that is enough to stop her.
Patrick discovered a blog years ago, something very common until he was a teenager, where there was always some special subject for the author that it addressed, until it was replaced by long videos on platforms with the same style. But the more time passed, the more he spent with Janine and returned to the blog, the stranger everything became.
Investigating was not enough, she is his wife and knows her well, but he does not have the courage to ask if she had a blog when she was a teenager. At least until the day came to clean the garage, she had to get everything there in time, so why not during the holidays?
He took down the boxes, got ladders and a bench to tidy up the place and take a break from her pink world, it seemed like a good thing.Among the dolls, books, photographs, old telephones studded with crystals, making him laugh at the fashion of the time and also at imagining her at that age, he found an old diary with a broken padlock.
He opened it, imagining that they were drawings, because he himself loved to draw, but showing them to anyone would only be embarrassing. Even among the various scribbled pages, he found some rants about his family, very similar to the ones on the blog, nothing too different from what she talks about every day, so he wasn't too worried.
Until he saw one reference in particular, which left no doubt.
“Just one”
That's what the girl on the blog always said, because according to her, she wished she had been the only one born on that December 10, 1996.
Patrick didn't even blink, everything seemed to stop around him. It couldn't really be her, his wife saying those things about her family on the internet, for everyone to see, as much as he hoped to know that it really is, it's too heavy for him.
She didn't see when he came to her in the living room, she just threw the notebook for her to catch and by the look on her face, she knew exactly what it meant.
-I already know about the shit you did- He said loudly, catching her attention.
-That's good then- She let the notebook fall on the couch and went back to looking at the phone.
-If you still want to live in this house, be my wife and have the slightest bit of my respect, find a way to fix this situation, because if this becomes public, it won't be very good, besides, everything you wrote about them is disgusting and knowing them Janine, I know it's a lie - Mahomes yelled
-Of course it's a lie, Joseph is too soft, he would never be able to fight back against me, but it made everything much more fun- She couldn't stop laughing.
Patrick stares at her seriously, not believing what he heard, and then she finally sees that he is really angry.
-And what are you talking about me? What did you lie about me to people or, I don't know, on some fake login somewhere? Fix this or this marriage ends here. - His ultimatum came out, leaving her alone in the living room with many worries, but not about feelings or what she did, but about being discovered and what she would do.
She took the diary and threw it in the trash can on the street, calmly returned to her house, not imagining that there would be a photographer there at that moment, wanting to see the facade of the house, after the recent renovation.
Unfortunately for her, he waited for her to come in and stop the movement at the door, to hang on the trash and pick it up, which for him at one moment seemed crazy, soon became true, since when he opened it, he found something too heavy and soon saw the same thing as Patrick.
Patrick was soon asked at the press conference.
Chaos ensued.
The Mahomes family was shocked, since they had no suspicions about this evil and dark side of Janine.
The Burrow family was devastated, due to so much exposure, each one of them was exposed there in an almost indiscreet way, with only their identities hidden.
Anyone who knew Janine and the way she talks about them would know it was her, because she talks about many things that happened, but also invents many others to make herself look poor.
Anyone who only knew the Burrow family would be suspicious, but would never have guessed that Janine would do this.
Joe was seen by Ja'marr, crying in the training center, hiding, afraid of being found, wondering what bad thing he did in his life for his sister to hate him so much.
Yes, hate.
As she herself writes in a post that was rescued, "If I had known that my brother would be so unbearable, I would have found a way to suffocate him with the umbilical cord", and she has often admitted in other posts that she planned different ways to kill Joe, whether by putting poison in his food, trying to asphyxiate him while he was sleeping, or even contacting hardcore serial killers from Athens to order the crime, but according to her, she ended up giving up because she wanted more years to make his life hell.
Joe is devastated, hurt, hurt, sad, it's as if someone had broken both his legs, both his arms and kicked him in the face, no injury and no defeat would hurt more than that.
In another state at the training press conference.
-Janine, what do you have to say about the blog? Do you regret it? Have you apologized to your family and especially to Joe? - A reporter asks.
-I was just a teenager, a child, too immature, it was just a joke, nothing major and they know it. - Her evasive answer and psychotic smile after answering the question shocked everyone. The apathy and coldness in Janine's eyes, and her frightening psychopathic smile put a warning sign in everyone present in that press conference room. They didn't need to be experts in psychology to realize that they were in front of a pathological narcissist with psychopathic traits.
Patrick began to suffer the consequences, as if he himself had created that blog.
-If Patrick doesn't come out and apologize, it will only seem like he is in agreement with all of this and since she is his wife, it is very clear that yes, he is in agreement. How can someone marry someone who doesn't respect their own family? If he didn't know before, now he does. What does she say about him without him knowing? - One of the commentators asked indignantly.
-Exactly, he has to speak up.
-Yes, he does, many sponsors won’t agree with that - another added.
-What scares me the most is that Patrick and Janine have a daughter together, what kind of education is this child receiving? Poor child - another commenter laments
That weighed on Patrick's conscience, the consequences of what he didn't do could arise, that's when he washed his face and made a video tagging the entire Burrow family, except Janine.
'I would like to publicly apologize to everyone in my wife's family.
Above all, I would like to say that I found out about this a few days ago and that I do not condone it, nor have I ever condone it. I have already asked her to do the same and I am waiting for it to happen and, like everyone else, I know very well that this cannot happen at home, it must happen publicly, since she had the courage to expose the family publicly in so many ways, for so many years. I can only regret that this happened. I love each and every one of this family and they are my family, especially you Joe, who shares the same profession and who is so young and talented, you have always had and will always have my respect and affection. You are family to me, you are a brother, I am sorry for those hurtful things you read, things your sister said about you'
The video was finished and posted, Patrick was more than ecstatic with everything he read.
When Janine saw it, she immediately appeared behind him, ready to confront him.
-My video, which I had no obligation to post, is ready, now please, have enough courage, the same courage you had to mistreat your brother, and do the same Janine and personally apologize to your family and Joseph or, if it's better, pack your bags and leave - He ordered, going up the stairs without even looking at her face.
She hugged her brother in a careless way, while he, imagining that she was being truthful, held her tightly, letting the tears wet her shoulder, who soon grimaced without anyone seeing.
-I'm sorry for everything, I was just an immature and idiot, who didn't know what I was saying, you know I love you very much Joe - She said it out loud very easily.
When her brother released her and she thanked him for it, she had to put on a fake expression of sadness, which worked well.
Peace was established between the Burrow’s, at least that's what everyone thought, since now she had other ways to transfer her anger towards Joe, a new diary, and Janine, with her traditional psychopathic smile, started writing again.

Laura and Logan having a complicated relationship is the realest thing ever if we remove the factor of Logan dying in her arms to save her like two days after meeting her.
They were both imposed on each other. They respect each other. They can't stand one another. Logan is constantly having to battle between wanting to protect her because she is a child that is so similar to him vs having to come to terms with her existence. Laura has to live with the fact that he doesn't really want her and that she'll never be normal and he is all she has to look forward to. They're both so similar that violence is second nature to them so their fights are always just on the edge of getting physical. (Laura gets better about always throwing the first punch but like... it's tempting)
And if we add Theo into the mix its all so much more complicated because biology doesn't tell Logan he HAS to love Theo... Logan just loves him because he is Theo.
So some part of her, a part Sunshine hates and is meticulously planning to destroy, feels like she's what's stopping her family's happily ever after just by existing. And she's eleven years old.
He tolerates her because he has to, in her head; and she can't even feel jealous because she loves Theo (i think he was older when Laura was found, so he was maybe 15) he takes care of her in the Mansion, never gets angry at her, he defends her from anyone that tries to be mean to her and he has never been afraid of her. I think Theo sees her as a kitten that hisses at you but will still follow you around.
But I do think she and Logan will come to love each other.
I HAVE SO MANY IDEAS I LOVE THIS😍
Oh yeah we're definitely removing that factor, this is an "everyone lives" universe 😂❤️
Logan is constantly having to battle between wanting to protect her because she is a child that is so similar to him vs having to come to terms with her existence. Laura has to live with the fact that he doesn't really want her and that she'll never be normal and he is all she has to look forward to. THIS IS SUCH A GOOD TAKE, AAAAAA-
Their dynamic will be so difficult at first! 😱 Like, they won't know how to be nice to each other 😱
And if we add Theo into the mix its all so much more complicated because biology doesn't tell Logan he HAS to love Theo... Logan just loves him because he is Theo. I LOVE THIS LITERARY ANALYSIS, IT'S AMAZING😍
I completely agree, and I feel like...to make things more angsty😏 part of the reason why Logan was so open to love Theo and become his father figure is because Theo is Sunshine's son. Like, to Logan, Sunshine symbolizes everything good in the world, and Theo being a part of her makes it much easier for him to love Theo ❤️
It is related to why things are very difficult with Laura first because in Logan's perspective, Laura isn't a part of Sunshine, but she is a part of Logan🥺 This will even be more like, clear when Logan and Sunshine have a daughter who does have Logan's powers -even if Laura and Logan are in much better terms by then- because he will have zero issues with her powers or the fact that they're "alike" because again, she is not only Logan's daughter, but she's also Sunshine's daughter ❤️ Laura didn't have that "advantage" so to speak, and she was imposed on Logan like you said, that's why things were so difficult between them at first ❤️
So some part of her, a part Sunshine hates and is meticulously planning to destroy, feels like she's what's stopping her family's happily ever after just by existing. And she's eleven years old. LAURA COME HERE SWEETHEART I WILL HUG YOU🥺
I think Sunshine made so so much effort to make Laura understand that she is a part of their family now❤️ And Theo helped a lot ❤️
I think Theo sees her as a kitten that hisses at you but will still follow you around. Exactlyyyy, and that's his younger sister, like he started seeing her as his sister the minute Sunshine started seeing her as her daughter, so he will be such an older brother to her 🥰❤️
Logan and her will definitely come to love each other! ❤️
Thank you so much, I love this! ❤️

It sort of irritates me when people act like Doof is such a great dad. When canon explicitly tells us the opposite.
I don't mean to say Doof doesn't care, he does. Very much so. But just caring doesn't make him a good dad. It just makes him a decent person. Vanessa loves him very much. But love isn't the only thing needed to be a good parent.
I see people cite the Mary McGuffin doll, and him spending years tracking it down as proof of him being a good dad. And it does tell us (and Vanessa) he cares, but it also tells us how out of touch he is with Vanessa's actual wants and needs. Vanessa is 16. She doesn't really want the doll anymore. The doll only has meaning to her because of the effort he put into it. Proof he has actually listened to something she was saying even if it was nearly 10 years ago. Doof has set the bar that low that Vanessa feels so attached to this one gift. In Vanessa's own words he is a substandard dad. She is biased, due to the way he embarasses her, but she's not wrong as often he can't even be bothered to actually listen to her.
He took her to Tokyo instead of Paris for his own interests. He tried to erase Vanessa's memory in order to make himself look better to her. He compared her (or rather Candace's) fashion sense to a clown. He set up a little girl's party when she was 16 and didn't even know she considered herself to be punk.
He tries, oh does he try. But without listening to Vanessa he can't actually do anything for her. His few successes are often facillitated by Perry who does. This lack of listening is at the center of the finale, where it almost causes him to lose her completely. When he finally listens he can finally start connecting with her, and not only that he realizes other things about the way he's been living. And this is something Vanessa, his 16 yr old daughter is telling him. Vanessa is being her dad's therapist and that's not necessarily fair to her.
And in Milo Murphy's Law when he moves in with the Murphys he continues to cross boundaries and not listen to people (particularly the household's teenage girl), acting in many ways more like an overgrown child than a parent himself. And in Vanessa's appearance she's still cleaning up after him and playing couple's therapist with him and Perry.
And don't even get me started on how Doof treats Norm, who recognizes Doof as his father only for Doof to constantly belittle him and refuse to treat him like a son. (Not unlike his own parents). Doof does seem to care for Norm, but that doesn't mean the other stuff he does doesn't exist.
This is especially egregious since PnF and MML have lots of great parents. Lawrence knows about and sometimes goes along with his boys shenanigans and often inspires them. He and Candace may not always be on the same page, but he makes and effort to include her, to try and spend time with her. In regards to Mary McGuffin, Lawrence may have not known Candace still cared about her doll, but he gave her more money than he made off of it to try and make it up to her when he realized that she did.
Martin is someone Milo admires, taught him how to deal with Murphy's Law, who left to give Milo his moment in Athledecamathalon and has otherwise offered his full support to Milo and dedicated time to spend with him. We see less of his interactions with Sara, but he's aparently the one who got her into Dr. Zone, and he understands Murphy's Law can be hard on her too and makes efforts to stay away from her when she needs space. He knows when to cheer his kids on and when to step back.
Dave Grant, Beppo Brown, Richard Chase and Roman Carter are all among the many father characters who seem to have a more healthy relationship with their kids than Doof. Not to mention the grandfathers. None of these parents are necessarily perfect but they are good parents.
I love Doof. He's a great character and a loving father. But he's not a great parent and that's part of what makes him a good character. Makes his interactions with his family fun. The functional dysfunction of it all. He's not simply a good or bad parent. But he's certainly not great.

I talked last week about how everyone freezes at the point of their lives that Kawi jumps from and stay stuck there in the future he sees (shoutout to @rocketturtle4). This week, we got confirmation through Pear and Kwan.
Kwan, who was in a no strings attached relationship with Not, knowing that he doesn't feel the same way, unable to say what she was feeling... where she stayed 12 years later up until Not and Pear's wedding.
And Pear, who was struggling with her relationship with her mother... @dribs-and-drabbles put it perfectly: "she wants to build the life for her own children that she never got herself. She wants to have the relationship her parents didn’t have, and wants to have the mother/daughter relationship she never got."
Pear, who knew how Not felt about her, who in the last timeline we saw went directly to him for what she needed when what she wanted was no longer working out for her.
And this week, within the little time Kawi spent not jumping ahead, they both got themselves unstuck. Kwan's feelings are out in the open and she has a definitive answer. Not is a terrible, terrible man, but it was a very similar conversation to the one between Pisaeng and Pear when Pisaeng finally let her down, giving her the chance to move on.
Pear, too, has finally said what she's feeling about her mother out loud
And realised it's not the best response. But with it out in the open now, she can also start to deal with it.
It's about catharsis. A good old fashioned 'let it all out and you'll feel better'. (@waitmyturtles I went down a little bit of a rabbit hole reading about Aristotelian catharsis and Hegel's preference of reconciliation and the overlap between the two to the point where I almost forgot what I wanted to say here. I'm going to leave the philosophers to you and read too deep into this episode instead - but like you mentioned here, another philosopher? potentially???)
And it's not the first time we're seeing this happen. It happens with Pisaeng.
I've been trying to figure out a way to talk about Pisaeng in episode 5 and how I don't think he went through an oh moment, but instead was making an effort to be truer to himself. He's said since the beginning
But how can he do that when he can't be open about himself, with himself, and around other people?
It's why there is so much of a focus on the "how are you feeling today?' sign and not just the rainbow flag. Because that is a question Pisaeng needs to be able to answer honestly. And when he's holding back so much of himself - largely due to his mother (see @bengiyo talk about Pisaeng's mom here) - he can't answer that question. Not until he talks to Max
Where his biggest hesitation comes when Max asks him what he shouldn't get the wrong idea about. Because Pisaeng's problem is that he can't say.
What's happening to him isn't that he's having a gay awakening - no, that happened a long time ago
What's happening to him now is that he likes someone and he's not sure when it happened. And him being unable to talk about it, being unable to let himself be in a gay club is not okay with him. Because if he can't be open with himself, how can he take care of someone else openly.
The moment he's able to say it to himself, he confesses to Kawi. And look at him at the club before and after
That's catharsis baybeeee.
And it also happens with Kawi - keeps happening with Kawi, actually. From the very beginning.
It starts with the first thing Kawi does when he sees his father again in what he thinks is a dream
He tells him he loves him (something they never used to do) and literally lets it all out, crying in his father's arms.
Kawi not being able to save his father isn't the biggest tragedy for me. Because he went back and didn't just tell his father that he loved him, he had a relationship with him. He showed him he loved him, apologised for the moments he regrets, looked out for him, made an effort to do something for him instead of just sitting there and letting him die - supported him.
It's still a tragedy, yes. But it's much less of one than we saw in the beginning.
Kawi doing things he always wanted to, just because he thinks it's a dream. That's catharsis too. Because for once he's actually letting out his thoughts and feelings.
When he calls his dad and apologises because he thinks he's a terrible person
There's a tragic sort of catharsis in there. Acknowledging what he doesn't like about himself because now he can move on from it, be a better person. And I think this scene was very carefully placed because it's immediately after this that Kawi goes and apologises to Pisaeng. It's after this that Kawi goes and begs Pear's dad for help. After this that Kawi convinces his father to be selfish for once and use his life savings for himself. (this scene should NOT have been deleted. but shoutout to @respectthepetty for finding it)
Talking about things, apologising, actually acknowledging what is wrong and making an effort to fix it, it's all catharsis. Especially for Kawi, when he spent all his time in the original timeline completely shut down, having done nothing with his life.
We even see a certain level of catharsis in Pear's mom. @dribs-and-drabbles pointed out the life and colour literally bursting out of her art. It's her expressing herself again - letting it all out - when that expression had disappeared from her life. It's a celebration where she had been struggling for so long.
And the culmination of it all so far is Kawi telling Pisaeng that he's worried about the negative effect he's having on other people's lives, for Pisaeng to come in and comfort him. Even when Kawi comes back from the last time jump, knowing he's coming back to his father's death, he comes back to Pisaeng's support.
It's about talking and letting it all out, and letting other people in.
#is this coherent#i've spent so long thinking about this#i'm just posting this and going to bed#it's everyone else's problem now#be my favorite#be my favorite series#I LOVE THIS SHOW OKAY

Lithuania: Oh, Giedrė would love this salad.
Czech: Who's Giedrė?
Lithuania: ...my 7th wife.
Czech:
Hungary: Your what
Germany: But I don't remember anyone from us having such a name?? Do we have a new state? I'm not teaching you, but don't you think it's a bit weird to marry a micronation for an old state like you?..
Lithuania: *sigh* She was mortal.
Everyone at the lunch table:
Ireland: Wait, wait, let me guess it - your 7th wife was mortal? Just like all the previous ones?
Lithuania:
Belgium: Jesus Christ.
Italy: Looks like someone forgot to tell him that having a relationship with mortals is a moveton in our little community...
Scotland: Lmao, I knew that guy never gave up on polygamy.
Lithuania, smiling with hidden irritation: I am sure we have more interesting topics to talk about than my 12 mortal wives, who were NOT married on me all at the same time, God rest their souls.
England: I agr-
France: NO, WE DON'T! I NEED to know everything about your 12 mortal wives, my dear Lituanie, right now!
Greece: Yeah, I'm also interested, like, dude, why did you decide that marrying mortals so many times is gonna be a good idea? At least you could have just making them your lovers, nothing more, why to put so much effort
France: You know that we can't have human children anyway :P
England: No one asked your opinion, orgies organizer
France: You're not a saint either, Mr. Le Bordel🖕🖕🖕
Lithuania: At first, I did that not out of romantic feelings and absolutely nor for sex. Poland had demanded that I must have married him in order to establish Commonwealth better. Although the pact was already legal, I wasn't ready for that, especially considering that the Catholic Church doesn't allow divorce... I didn't want to lose my independence completely, I didn't want to kill Poland to break the possible marriage because that would be really gross, considering that it was me who came to Poland first, I've lost Ruthenia and Smalensk by my own stupidity. Being on the peak of my power, I've fallen down like Lucifer. The day before, I was an empire, and the next day, I was nothing but a colony. I was miserable, and I had no right to complain. But one day, a woman approached me in a pub and asked me half-jokingly: "Doesn't your mother need a daughter-in-law?" And then it dawned on me. "Actually, she does," I answered. We got married the next day. The problem was delayed because, thankfully, Catholicism can't stand polygamy.
Lithuania: I can't say I've fallen in love with Milda at first sight, but she made my life less miserable.
Sweden: And she never questioned why her husband never got old?
Lithuania: Well, she never complained. 😆 As well as the others... *blushes a little*
Liechtenstein: I suppose it hurt when she died...
Lithuania: It always hurts when someone who lives in your heart dies. At least, she was gone with peace. I made sure she was buried properly.
Lithuania: That's when I've realised I didn't want to come to the empty house for eternity.
Lithuania: Later, I've usually tried to marry widows or single mothers: someone who was the outcast for society and who wasn't really able to protect themselves. I've thought it was not fair. After all, I can't just wander around like a ghost, if I am the personification of my people, at least I could have tried to make someone’s life a bit easier. To some extent, I perceived it as a sacrifice for Milda.
Japan: I'd say you have a fetish if only what you're telling didn't sound so sad.
Bulgaria: At least, the children could be proud of their vampire step-father! :D
Romania: Bulgaria, shut up. Just the mention of vampires makes me sick.
Finland: If you watched your wife dying every time, no wonder you seemed so depressed.🫂
Lithuania: 🫂
Lithuania: So I've come through the Commonwealth partition and russian empire, but the tradition remained.
Everyone: *silence, many have watery eyes*
France: 😭😭😭
England: You're the weirdest freak of Europe. After France. No offence.
France: Ugh, what can a cold-heart like you know about the pain of true love loss😭😤😡 This man's married 12 TIMES! TO MORTALS! You could never.
Lithuania: Well, sex was also nice.
Czech: Ew.
Greece: Now that's our guy🤌🤌🤌🤌
Latvia, completely unimpressed: Well, if to be accurate, 13 times if to count his marriage with his sister.
Lithuania: It was PURELY POLITICAL, SHORT-LASTING and it was A SHAM MARRIAGE, to receive funding from the Vatican and save our land from Teutonic Order invasions, you little shit💢 I've never felt anything more than platonic respect to her
France: I NEED DETAILS!!! :D
Bulgaria: A little bit of Monica in my liiife, a little bit of Erica by my siiiide
Latvia: A little bit of Rita's all I need, a little bit of Tina's what I see
Bulgaria: A little bit of Sandra in the sun, a little bit of Mary all night long
Latvia: A little bit of Jessica, here I am, a little bit of you
Together: makes me your man!!
Lithuania: I'm going home.

It was Joel and I's first Halloween as a married couple. I wanted his 9-year-old daughter Sarah to like me, since she hadn't really taken a liking to me at first. I understood I was just another person who was taking Joel's attention. I decided to maybe make her like me a little more than she did, so I proposed the idea of me making her a costume for scratch. at first, she looked at me brows furrowed together, and her head cocked to the side like 'why would you do that for me?' but then she finally mumbled "can you make me a zombie costume?" Sarah was a sweet girl; she just wasn't used to me yet. we had met a handful of times before Joel married me, and I'm pretty sure she assumed id last 3 months like all the other girls.
so now I'm sitting on the couch at 12 am sewing, cutting, and dying. it wasn't that I pushed the costume off procrastinating it, it just required way much work than I imagined it would. "You don't have to do this" Joel whispers his thumb caressing the side of my arm as he sits down next to me. "I just want her to like me" I whisper, he takes his hand and places it against my cheek "she does like you."
"No, no I-I understand where she's coming from. I hated my stepdad because he made no effort to even try to have a relationship with me. and-and it felt like he was stealing my mom" tears well up in my eyes "I just want to be better than him." he wipes away the tear that fell down my cheek "you are better than him, in so many ways. you're amazin'" I swallow down the lump that had been stuck in my throat as I place my hand on top of his. I wanted her to know that I wasn't just talking to her or looking at her because I wanted to get into her father's pants. my stepdad used to do it all the time, act like he stepped up, act like he was replacing my very alive father for one day just because he knew my mom would fuck him later that night. I wanted Sarah to know I wanted an actual relationship with her even if it wasn't a mother daughter type bond.
-
Sarah was sat in front of me her home-made zombie outfit on while I did her zombie makeup. I thought it was good, it was one of her old soccer jerseys and a pair of new shorts I had ripped up, and stained. "Thank you" Sarah whispers as I dab green tinted face paint onto her face. "It looks really good" she adds, I smile feeling some type of weird validation. I did good. "Thank you, Sarah," I whisper as I dabbed on fake blood. we sit in a comfortable silence as I add scar wax and blood to her neck to simulate a slit throat. "Do you still talked to your stepdad?" she asks which makes my brows furrow together, I've never even mentioned my stepfather to her, so I don't know how she knows I had. "What?"
"Your stepdad you said you hated him last night. do you still talk to him?" oh, oh fuck. she heard Joel and i's conversation last night; she heard me cry about the failed relationship between my stepfather and I. "no my mom and him divorced 5 years late haven't heard from him since." I whisper as I shake my head. he loved to claim he wasn't the stepfather but the father who stepped up. total bullshit because that man never 'stepped up'. "He was mean my brother and I didn't like him" she nods as she looks down at her lap "you're not mean to me; I really like you y/n." she whispers which makes my heart break in the best way possible. tears form in my eyes just as Joel rounds the corner "Woah holy crap you scared me Sarah," he jokes, which makes both Sarah and I roll our eyes and look at each other like 'this idiot.'
"don't it look good?" she asks as she shows off the fake scars and blood. "Yeah y/n did good, didn't she?" Sarah nods as she grins up at her father before sprinting off to grab her sneakers.
-
we're walking down the street in a neighborhood a few blocks away from ours. Sarah's a few feet ahead of us skipping down the street with a bag half full of candy. Joel and I's fingers are interlocked, it feels like I'm finally actually apart of the family and not just the random lady coming along with the father daughter duo. other family smile and nod at us it feels like a tv show. Sarah turns into the front yard of a house decked out in Halloween decorations. the front lawn is filled with those cheap animatronics and spiderwebs. on the front porch sat a little old lady with a bucket of candy in her lap. "Your costume looks so good" the old lady exclaims as she drops a hand full of candy in her bag "did your mom make it?" Sarah nods with a little smile, it feels like my heart explodes. "Wow she needs to make mine next year" the old lady jokes. "Yeah, my girls amazing, can make anything with just a few scraps of fabric" Joel chuckles as he presses a kiss to my cheek.

The more I think about it the more I love the Jasper/Enoch rivalry.
Well, to be fair, I think Jasper actively hates her, and she's just there. She's murder daughter because she sees murder as the best way to achieve her goals, not because she enjoys murdering people. She's not looking for a fight, she just calls it as she sees it, and she sees Jasper as un unimpressive wimp who failed to kill Belos because he was too sentimental.
Enoch: I'm just saying, you could totally have killed him if your feelings hadn't gotten in the way.
Jasper: EXCUSE YOU, IT TOOK A LOT OF EFFORT FOR ME TO RECOGNIZE THAT I WAS CAPABLE OF FEELINGS.
Enoch: Yeah, ironic.
Jasper can't comprehend this kid. She knew she was a person?? with EMOTIONS??? AND SHE THREW THEM AWAY??? Jasper took 12 years to come to terms with the fact that his feelings WERE real and they DID affect him and they DID matter and meanwhile this kid had just decided emotions were useless and didn't bother with them??
Jasper: HOW was someone who HAD emotions and KNEW she was a person BETTER at locking all those feelings away than I ever was??
Enoch: Skill issue.
Jasper: AKLSDJFDKASJFJDSLKAHDJFKAASDFKDSD
Caitlyn: To be fair, I didn't exactly do a good job modeling feelings for her.
Jasper sobbing around a bottle of god-knows-what while Caleb awkwardly pats his back and Jasper's like "Hunter's gonna end up like ENOCH."
Tell: Okay on the one hand I can see how that'd be distressing, but Jasper, that IS my kid.
Enoch: No, no, he has a point. I still failed to kill Belos. We should be hoping that Hunter is even better than me at killing Belos. *watches Hunter follow his uncle around with stars in his eyes* But in all honesty he's shaping up to be a spectacular disappointment.
Jasper: YOU TAKE THAT BACK.
She doesn't really hate Hunter, probably. She thinks his loyalty is stupid, obviously, but like. When he was a baby she just saw him as an obstacle Jasper failed to overcome, and as the Golden Guard she's like "when I was his age I was actively plotting an assassination", and after Hunter runs away she's like "well he's got half the right idea now that he knows the truth but of COURSE he's just running away, ugh" and then Hunter attempts to murder-suicide himself and Belos and she's like OH YES FINALLY OKAY RESPECT ACQUIRED GET IT BOY!
She probably can't even fault him for not succeeding in killing Belos. Like that wasn't his fault. He gave an honest shot at it and for all we know the only reason it didn't work is cuz Camila pulled Hunter out of the water which let Belos depossess him.
She just judges everyone by how close they got to killing Belos and what made them fail, and the people who get judged the harshest are the ones who came close but failed for whatever she perceives as a stupid reason. Virtue, John, Temperance? Not even worth judging over this, they were too stupid to even think about killing him. Dust? An attempt was made, not a very good one but it's not like he had much time to think about it, he can have a You Tried sticker. Miles? Should've used those bombs on BELOS, yeesh, and he was more concerned with running away than with killing the guy, BUT he earns a lot of points for spending his final moments writing out a warning to anyone who'd come after, which may eventually lead to Belos's death, so A for effort. Jasper? Colossal disappointment, oh my god, you literally HAD HIM, IF IT WASN'T FOR THE BABY YOU WOULD'VE KILLED HIM, GOD. Hunter? Disappointingly brainwashed, but the moment he decided to kill Belos, he WENT for it, and she can respect that.
Luz? Oh my god she's probably so pissed at Luz. Like. You beat him! You literally beat him! You had god-given powers the likes of which no witch has ever been graced to wield, you took him out when he was arguably at his most powerful, and YOU DIDN'T EVEN TAKE THE SHOT?? YOU LET THE RAIN DO IT? AND THEN YOU LET RAINE AND EDA AND KING DO IT?? WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE TO WASTE MY DREAM???
So yeah, just. Jasper actively hating Enoch, and Enoch passively hating Jasper.
Jasper: HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT???
Enoch: Why are you booing me? I'm right.
In the far distant future, Darius passes away from old age, and one way or another, he's finally going to see Jasper again--
Darius: Jasper. I spent sixteen years having beef with a child, and then I felt extremely bad about it, and strove to become a better person. And now I have died, and I find out YOU'VE spent the last SIXTY years having beef with a child??
Jasper, glaring at Enoch in yet another staring contest: When I first met her, she'd been dead longer than I'd been alive.
Darius: I just feel like maybe I beat myself up a little too much regarding how upset you'd be at how I treated Hunter.
Jasper: YOU were a dick to a brainwashed child soldier who needed healthy adult relationships in his life because you were misplacing your anger and grief. I am having a mutual standoff with someone who ACTUALLY believes I'm a failure for NOT LETTING MY BABY DIE, and who continues to be a bitch despite having DECADES since her death to figure out how to not be.
Enoch: I don't "believe" you're a failure, it's just an objective fact.
Jasper: ALSKDJKSDAJFKLJDSKLFSDKLFK
Darius: I can see why your ortet keeps the liquor cabinet well stocked.
Uruwydhfjdijebrg riqyshJFGHEHAH I'm fucking OBSESSED jasper having genuine beef with a fifteen year old and desperately trying to justify why that's different from Darius having beef with hunter and he has a lot of points but he keeps saying "SHES OLDER THAN ME LIKE SHE LIVED LONGER THAN I DID AND SHE HAD SO MUCH MORE AGENCY AND ALSO SHES BEEN DEAD LONGER THAN I WAS ALIVE LIKE COME ON
Enoch: Darius you were mean to a brainwashed child soldier. How could you possibly not see what was happening and realize it was evil?
Darius: I know, and you're right, I should have been kinder. I wish that I-
Enoch: how could you not see Belos was evil right then and there?? Like, he killed your boyfriend and you didn't even murder him for it?
Darius: I mean. I.
Enoch: pussy
Jasper: come on
Darius like okay I get why JASPER is still here watching hunter sixty years later but why are YOU still here
Tell: Enoch won't leave
Enoch: for the bit, mostly
Enoch fucking... ROASTING previous Grimwalkers.
Miles: Had no reason to seek vengeance yet. Passable if only because he is so early in the timeline respects the viciousness of his ending. The anger and the commitment to warning the future.
Virtue: loser who died too fast and didn't learn to think for himself
Dust: easily manipulated but most of them are since they've been groomed to be. Hard turned at the end, respect. Willing to take child hostage +10 points for commitment. Ultimately a failure but she'd share a beer with him
Temperance: idiot loser who didn't even learn anything
Caleb: you RAISED his ass and didn't see he was an evil fuck? Wow. Yeah sympathy is great huh tell that to the kid you didn't raise shit lips
Jasper: you're the fucking worst oh my god. You had the best chance and threw it away. Absolutely pathetic. You're grounded kid
Tell: lame dad. Complacent and pessimistic. I want a bed time story but also you're mid af
She's just like. The worst. They're all dead they've had to get past the point of "she might actually be evil and I don't really want her here" and just have to live with this thing in the house and she's emboldened by the fact she is tolerated

The whole Twilight of the Gods arc straight up sucks all kinds of ass, but I'm still in a very positive mood re this show so I'm gonna talk about the things I did like:
-- I don't actually dislike a lot of the Xena/Ares stuff? Ares is an enormous dick but he's the antagonistic entitled god of war so it's not exactly unexpected, and I find the way it leads up to him making a genuinely selfless sacrifice ultimately satisfying even if the emotional continuity could've been handled better. Plus I'm a fan of Xena throwing him around and playing with his tits when she's pretending to seduce him ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-- And I'm also a fan of Ares impaling himself on Xena's sword while getting all seductive in their first reunion in 25 years.
-- Also I'm glad they made it very clear that Ares didn't know Livia was Xena's daughter lol.
-- I like Athena as the main antagonist, like that Athena has a mortal girlfriend, like Xena killing her. There's a lot of fic where Athena and Artemis show up and are treated as good and wise and deserving of respect and even worship, especially in contrast to evil Ares, and I've never really liked that sisterhood solidarity by default vibe lol so I like them as antagonists in canon. The final battle between Xena and Athena ft Artemis was also satisfying - the way Xena wins fair and square, and it only doesn't take the first time because Eve died first.
-- And as much as the whole plot is dumb, I like that Xena takes on like five gods at once and kills them all. When she gets Hades with the fire blowing technique 🥰
-- Oh also I love to see Gabrielle holding her own against some gods like Hades and Hephaeston. Not the war gods, but the gods whose thing isn't really combat? It makes sense to me (not having seen Hercules so having little reference point for the gods' power levels and also not really caring anyway), and it's awesome to see.
-- "Sounds like you and Xena had some great adventures together dad." Genuinely heartwarming as fuck.
-- Livia was irritating and the way she acted like a 16 year old when she was supposed to be 25 was obnoxious, BUT Adrienne Wilkinson was successfully channeling Hudson Leick imo and it was fun to hear Callisto's cadence from her.
-- Love Hope making an appearance while the Furies are driving Gab insane (even if that IS outside their jurisdiction lol) and drawing the obvious parallel between Eve and Hope. I like to think it's Gabrielle's very buried resentment being voiced, and frankly I support Gabby's right to murder Eve <3
-- Also on that note, I love Gab being the one to conclude that Livia is beyond saving and needs to die. I like to imagine she did feel a little thrill of satisfaction in turning the tables on Xena there, somewhere deep deep down, and maybe that lingering resentment over Hope is partly why she can write off Livia.
-- While Xena did wimp out when it came to killing her daughter and that sux, I give props for the moment when she says she could do it if she had to, and for the fact that the blocking of the fight leaves it ambiguous as to whether she would have pulled herself together and done it if Livia hadn't taken advantage of her hesitation. Like, at least she didn't drop the chakram and go "i can't," or something.
-- The show's attempt to ground Livia/Eve's magical personality change in memories of Xena taking care of her as a baby didn't work, but they clearly did make an effort to have some emotional continuity and I respect it.
-- Aphrodite helping Xena and Gabrielle because Gabrielle is her friend was very sweet and it's nice to see her get a dramatic scene.
-- It feels arbitrary and annoying that Xena doesn't just kill Ares - even if Xena does have feelings towards him to some extent lol that wouldn't stop her - but it is a fun moment when Ares is like "you can't bring yourself to shoot me," and she immediately shoots him. And I'm free to headcanon that Xena was not so much sparing Ares, as she was so pissed off at Ares in particular for enabling Eve's mortal wound that she deliberately chained him up just to make him watch her kill his family before she kills him.
-- Dying Eve telling Xena she liked spiders as a kid, and the scene at the end where she's playing with a spider on the beach was also genuinely sweet.
-- "Looks like you got your daughter back." "No, we got our daughter back." Of course I remembered this exchange distinctly, but I hadn't remembered that it was the very last line of the season. Excellent note to go out on.

Hudson and Rex S02E11 - Rex Machina
Fun pun. Even better because deus ex machina is an unexpected power or event saving a seemingly hopeless situation, especially as a contrived plot device in a play or novel, and that happens often in this show.
Literally all crime show procedurals have done the "car kills human" one way or another. So, again, we're not looking to reinvent the wheel here. We're looking for a fun episode. Which it was, mostly the parts with Terabyte which I thought was a clever invention from whoever wrote the script.
Terabyte's first appearance!
How dare you.
This is a ridiculous idea. It just begs to be vandalized.
Rex's interactions with all the robotic parts is hilarious. I can only imagine what dogs think about all these things. Judging by their reactions on the roomba vacuum cleaners, not good things.
Being on bad terms with your daughter because you're a trucker and she's about to revolutionize the car industry and maybe your job won't exist by the time you retire is... completely stupid. Yes, any other trucker would have the right to feel threatened but her own father?
Dude, you parked in the middle of the street.
Sarah has already adopted Terabyte.
I live for Rex's jealousy.
Stop being so cute.
"Hoomans, if you don't get that thing away from me..."
Well, up until that moment, I had not realized that the one sided-glass in that interrogation room can also become... two-sided? Also, fun scene.
Charlie and Sarah walking their dogs.
I completely forgot it was Sarah that named him Terabyte!
"He looks like a terabyte". What precisely does a terabyte, a measure of counting digital data storage, look like?
Rex: Damnit, Terabyte is going to blow this case wide open. I have to step up my game.
Sarah: [about Terabyte] It's a he, not an it. Charlie: *sending silent signals to Jesse to just go with it*
Charlie: Good job, Terabyte. Rex: OH HE DID NOT! I'll make it look like an accident.
I love subtitles.
Sarah: Where's Terabyte? Jesse: Charging. Rex: He's in here! And I'm smelling fried circuits!
I concur.
I love the justification of, "I blackmailed a company and murdered a person when my ex got involved into an unrelated to said company motorcycle accident which left him paralyzed, because self-driving cars are ruining my hometown which is solely dependent on the driving industry". I don't think automation made you a shitty person, you were always one. Also, I'm not sure if that stands medically, but it's implied that if they hadn't gone to the trouble of staging this to seem like the car's fault, he might not have had permanent damage to his spine. So, she traded his legs for 10k per month.
lol they're opening the plant in Axtonville, a town where everyone is a trucker? Are truckers and plant workers interchangeable?
I actually dislike the pro "our company cares" endings they sometimes do. This isn't the first one.
"That's right, bitches. Despite Jesse's best efforts to murder me, I'm back."
Might happen sooner than you think.
Definitely not. I'm going to be watching Rex adaptations forever.
"No, we're not friends now. It's a 'keep your enemies close' thing."
I was glad to see Terabyte in later episodes. Although I don't think he ever moved again. I think at some point Rex probably had enough and ripped his circuits to shreds. The damage was irreparable. Everyone was sad. Rex wasn't.

Legacies 1x01 Rewatch
NO THE OPENING HAS TAKEN ME OUT. IT'S TOO SOON. HER LITTLE HERO AND VILLAIN SPEECH AND KNOWING ALL THAT COMES WITH THAT MOTIF LATER IS TOO MUCH.
She should've sprinkled a little "love and hate" in that speech honestly. The Hizzie edits would've slapped.
Everyday I wish we got more of Landon and Rafael's foster life. Like there was so much there to unpack and they never did.
Playing Halsey in the first five minutes. I was doomed to obsess over this show from the start.
The way we never got answers on whether that priest knew about werewolves and that's why he wanted to see him at the rise of the full moon or if it was coincidence or if that priest actually was a witch. Imagine if he came back.
HE USED TO SERVE ME MILKSHAKES I WAS NOT PREPARED I KNEW IT
"More like despair" 😭😭😭 Sorry but all her poking gets funnier on the rewatch knowing she had a crush on Hope the whole time
Truly wish we got to see more of the classes at this SCHOOL. Like we saw three??? And none of them had any substance???
"Before your hairier breatheren corrupted you" Sorry but I wanted the witches' distaste for the wolves to be addressed and honestly Tribrid Hope could've been the uniter of the kingdoms
"Talking about her gives her power." You say all that but then you bitch about people NOT talking about her later
Aww. I always forget when Josie used to just be a softy stoner witch. They should've kept that characterization.
Bisexually, we should've gotten to see Rafael throw that lawn mower through the patio doors
BABY HOPEG MY HEART IT THUMPS
"Take it from a guy named Alaric, I get it" 😭😭😭 Guarantee that Lizzie's "just be MG" speech from his tour was Alaric's "just be Ric" speech
You're telling me Landon worked at the Grill in MYSTIC FALLS and never encountered a vampire who tried to compel him before MG? I call bullshit.
"I'm not so good with small spaces" and all I'm thinking about is how he crawled through the air vents to save everyone in 1x11
Alyssa Chang made a broom fly in Physics. YEAH SHE DID.
"It's not a competition" I mean yeah that's fair because Josie was the only one competing in the competition in her mind but still ... she very much viewed it as a competition ...
"We don't mention her name anymore." Josie a week later:
"That was my inside voice" 😭😭😭 Now I'm dying imagining Caroline and Alaric telling Lizzie that sometimes, your thoughts are not meant to be spoken out loud because that is your inside voice after she insults someone on accident
"Hot, angry, damaged ..." So Hope Mikaelson? God the signs were there from the start and I MISSED them like a FOOL
"You're getting a little old for me to breaking your human bones." Don't worry, Hope. You do eventually.
"I don't have things" and meanwhile Jed is the only one in that school who didn't have a crush on Hope at some point. YOU may not have things, ma'am, but people definitely have things for you.
"I don't tell you to go out and fraternize with the human locals." ... isn't that LITERALLY what you tell them to do in the NEXT episode???
"Attempt to make an actual friend here and we can reevaluate" "I tried to be her friend and she never makes any effort" Oh yeah, "I want you to do anything for each other" is making so much sense now. The signs were all there.
ClEaN uP oN aIsLe L. Was it so hard to be like "Hey, my sister - your DAUGHTER - is having a mental health episode. Help?" Also, it's not like Hope doesn't know about her episodes. Josie already told the whole school five years ago.
Also I love that they put Josie immediately running to Alaric to help Lizzie in the very first episode and then have Josie claim she did everything to help and have Lizzie claim that Alaric wasn't around. LIKE YES MISS MIKAELSON, IT DOES DEPEND ON WHO IS TELLING THE STORY.
THE MOMENT I FELL IN LOVE WITH LIZZIE. I have long since gotten better with it, but I too used to want to destroy kitchens or [redacted] myself every time I messed up a social interaction and seeing that on screen absolutely blew my mind.
Throwback to the first time I watched Legacies and had NOT finished TVD or TO yet. Had no clue what Handon was talking about but I was still melting.
Why did we never see summoning spells come back up? Like?? That could've been so useful???
Josie out at a party while Lizzie sits inside recovering from her episode. Hmm. Tell me again which one Lizzie's disorder affects more.
Yeah, everyone's endings in 4x20 suck but RAFAEL'S EARLY ENDING IS CUTTING EXTRA DEEP WHEN ALL HE'S EVER TALKED ABOUT IS HOW MUCH HE BELONGS WITH LANDON AND AT THAT SCHOOL AND HOW BOTH GOT YANKED AWAY IN HIS "HEAVEN"
"I could just whip up a remedy with herbs from the bio lab" Wonder where she got the idea that there's a magic fix for her disorder from
"Do you think I'm broken?" 🥺🥺🥺 My baby girl
"Josie doesn't have freakouts." Don't worry, she does. She's just hiding them for now. She'll kill you one day though. Just for funsies. You're doing just fine, all things considered.
"She spends a lot of time worrying about other people's happiness." You mean how she can take it away or ...?
WHY DIDN'T WE EVER GET TO HEAR ABOUT THE ORIGINAL SALTZMAN CODEPENDENCY. LIKE NOT EVEN IN TVD?? WHAT DOES THAT LINE MEAN???
"I don't ever want to hurt anybody." "Maybe you'll finally understand if you have blood on your hands too." OHHHHHHH
HOPE AND LIZZIE MADE FRIENDS AND WE STILL NEVER SAW A GROUP TRAINING. I WAS ROBBED. ROBBED I SAY.
I TRIED TO BE HER FRIEND. God, they should just make a "Young Salvatore School" spin off. I'd watch all that play out between TO and Legacies.
"Everyone in here has lost something." WAIT BECAUSE I JUST REALIZED SHE'S NOT EVEN TALKING ABOUT HERSELF AND JOSIE. SHE'S TALKING ABOUT ALL THE OTHER STUDENTS NOT GETTING THE SAME SPECIAL TREATMENT DESPITE ALL OF THEM GOING THROUGH TRAUMA TO END UP THERE.
"Speak of the actual devil." Lizzie, haven't you met the ACTUAL actual devil??
"I'm missing a party??" THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING LIZZIE.
POSIE CRUMBS POSIE CRUMBS POSIE CRUMBS
The fact that MG stopped talking about vampire stories is so sad. He should've kept that with his comic obsession.
"I'm not saying that y'all should kill your moms because that's messed up." I'll say it: MG should've gotten to kill his mom. Actually, did none of that come up again??? She works for Triad and he just moves on????
The way Rafael was an athlete yet he never played in the football episodes ...
ACTUALLY THE WAY WE NEVER GOT A S3 OR S4 FOOTBALL EPISODE AFTER J*LIE SAID THERE'D BE ONE EVERY SEASON
"I care too much. It's kind of a problem." I mean technically she did not lie but she also did not mention that the caring in question was about herself and about what she thought everyone else owed her.
ROSIE SHOULD'VE HAPPENED AND I STAND BY THAT. THEY WERE NOT ENDGAME MATERIAL AND RAFAEL DESERVED BETTER BUT MY GOD I STILL WANTED TO SEE IT HAPPEN.
Legacies S1 aesthetics >>> any of the other seasons'
That wolf Hope and Landon in the woods scene is just 🤌🤌🤌
HANDON LIBRARY SCENE HANDON LIBRARY SCENE
"I'm a lot of things." "Care to elaborate?" "Bisexual."
I lowkey forgot about the Pizzie (Menelope? PenelopeG?) kiss
"I'm offering to rock your world right now." So like ... did Penelope actually like MG? Was she just looking to get laid? Was she doing it because she knows he likes Lizzie?
Sorry but PosieG might be rising as my second favorite throuple (sorry Fosie)
The S1 Penelope-kissing-MG and Josie-being-jealous-over-MG's-romances is just too good
"Last I checked you were more into girls." Yikes MG.
"I am an equal opportunity evil temptress." Bisexual Penelope for the win.
Wait - do you guys think Penelope was the one to help Josie figure out her sexuality? Do you think Josie was the one who helped Penelope?? Where's the fics, Posies???
"Your binary assumptions about sexuality are dated." And here's how MG's bi realization comes about because he knows he likes girls but he thinks because he likes girls, he can't like guys and then Ethan and -
Josie getting jealous seeing MG and Penelope kissing AND THE WAY IT COULD GO EITHER WAY.
"Klaus Mikaelson: The Great Evil." "He wasn't very popular around here." Look, Hope, I love you and I love your relationship with your dad BUT MY GOD IT WAS FOR A REASON. HE LITERALLY WAS EVIL.
"I try not to get close to people anymore." "We thought you hated us." "That's what we do when we're scared - we push people away." Mmm hmm. Just inject the good stuff straight into my veins.
A UNICORN. THE FACT THAT SHE GOT PANCAKES ON THEIR ANNIVERSARY AND NOT A STUFFED UNICORN IS ACTUALLY ILLEGAL.
"Forget about her. Focus on somebody new." Oh I need to use this in a Finsie edit real bad.
"I'm setting my sights on Rafael." LIZZIE YOU DON'T JUST PICK A GUY TO CRUSH ON BECAUSE HE'S THERE. THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE ATTRACTED TO MEN. BABY, IF YOU HAVE TO ARBITRARILY DECIDE TO CRUSH ON HIM, YOU'RE JUST NOT INTO HIM.
WE SHOULD'VE GOTTEN HANDON WATCHING THE STARS LATER TO PARALLEL THE CELLAR SCENE
"You are a really nice person, Hope Mikaelson." "Why were you so mean to me?" Oh the Handizzie ... I feel faint ...
"Is this the part where you run?" I just think Landon has a thing for girls who run away.
"I'm not going to remember any of this, am I?" "Probably not." AND IT'S NOT THE COMPULSION THAT MAKES HIM FORGET BUT HOPE JUMPING INTO MALIVORE THAT DOES. OH MY GOD.
"It's just not safe for you here." And then MG kills him and then he dies and then he dies and then he dies and then he dies and then he dies and then he dies and then he dies and then he dies AND THEN HE DIES FOR GOOD AND THEN HE'S THE GOD OF DEATH.
"All you gotta do is go home." MG ... sweetie ... he doesn't have a home ...
HOPE TOUCHING HER LIPS REMEMBERING THAT KISS OH I KNOW IT WAS SO GOOD FOR HER
"There's no way that the one time I get close to someone, they turned out to be a liar. It's not possible. I'm not that stupid." Let me give you a hug
I, for one, do not think they did enough plots about the threat of being exposed
"She puts those sex herbs in her weed, and I had a momentary lapse in judgement." No because I don't think we talk enough about MG straight up accusing Penelope of roofie-ing and assaulting him.
"Why does everyone find her so special?" Why do YOU find her so special Miss Saltzman? Hmm?
"She's not special. She's just ... available." OOF. I DID NOT REMEMBER MG SAYING THAT. THAT IS SO NASTY.
Maybe 1x01 MG and 4x20 MG ARE the same dude.
"Don't hate me, okay?" "What if I'm incapable of love?" Oh the good stuff could've been there.
Local Pyromaniac Lights Ex On Fire
"Are you blackmailing me?" Yes, she is.
Hope's little "sorry" to the mouse 🥺🥺🥺 You're telling me she's gonna become a killer someday? Hmm.
"Turns out, Landon isn't the hero of my story at all." Turns out, Hope's not the real villain in Lizzie's story.
"But when I hunt him down, I'm gonna be the villain of his." Hope, you were apologizing to a rat a few hours ago. I need you to be realistic in your goals.

What are your thoughts on Hazbin? Also, fav song? 👀
Favorite songs: Stayed Gone, Loser Baby, Hell is Forever
But seriously all the music slaps hard. It’s so good.
Thoughts: many
I’ll start with the smaller thoughts and leave the longest (Alastor) for last.
Vaggie is pleasantly explored. I’m surprised in a good way. I also love Charlie and feel like her strength isn’t really on full display yet lol. Exciting.
Angel Dust—my son. Husk—my son in law.
Angel Dust and Husk—I didn’t catch the vibe the first watch through but the second time? Oh they’re gonna be in love later if they aren’t already. I rarely care about ships but I LOVE this one. Good job Hazbin.
I really do like the Vees. They’re clearly antagonists and represent negative effects of social media and technology influence among other things. I mean no they aren’t likable as people, but I certainly like them as characters. I’m excited to see them more.
Everyone else is just fun. I love the found family/home vibe of the hotel. It’s so comforting to me.
Now really, my favorite is Alastor. Shocking I know.
Currently I can’t take my focus off of him. My gut told me he’s a good character to latch onto, and I feel like my gut was right.
I always want a happy ending for my blorbos and I feel like I hit the jack pot here bc he seems like a chaotic “control the game board” type of character (like Izaya, Shigure, Mephisto, etc.). But I think he’s ultimately going to be a benevolent force in the story for what the story is showing (redemption and salvation!).
I’m obsessed with his relationship to Charlie the most, but also I’m just very honed in on how his attachment to the hotel will change throughout the series.
Alastor is hard to read. He’s just a fun little guy. He seems sadistic and uncaring. Emotionless and like an overlord with pretty much no other motive besides power and freedom (regaining what he had before his fight with Vox 7 years ago is what his surface level motive seems to be).
But I cannot take my eyes off of how he’s puts a lot of effort into Charlie and what she wants.
In the pilot he says it’s for shits and giggles, and I’m sure he tells himself it is. But the way he is in the main series (meaning after the pilot) is just very questionable when you remember what he said his motive was. He does a whole lot more than someone who doesn’t actually give a shit.
Sure, it’s nothing for him to defend the hotel really. A mindless chore. But I started getting like ???? when Lucifer showed up. Lucifer clearly bothers Alastor (the frame was deliberately showing Alastor’s eye twitch when Lucifer showed up at the hotel and hugged his daughter). Then of course there was the hilarious “I’m a better dad than him” bit that made me lose my mind. Then in the second to last episode Alastor said “it’s not like you’ve ever failed to inspire before”—obviously meaning himself, has me even more like ???!!!! Something about Charlie inspires him and gets him up and moving and I just love that and want to explore it more and see what that brings for him.
The finale episode shows him starting to crack. He laughs at the thought of almost dying for his friends—the notion hilarious to him. Except he DID ALMOST DIE FOR HIS “FRIENDS”. And I think the reality of that freaks him out. I don’t think he’s very in tune with how he really feels about the company he has right now. Not yet. I really do think right now he’s focused on revenge against Vox, bc he’s openly competitive against him and clearly has a vendetta. I think that clouds everything else with him right now and it’ll be a problem later.
I’ve also gotta give it to a couple of other pals who basically confirmed for me that Alastor’s character is heading for redemption. The kind of redemption the hotel aims for (whether that ends with a place in heaven or not idk or care bc I just want him to have a happy ending with everyone). He doesn’t know this, or acknowledge this. But Charlie’s influence is contagious and Alastor is already infected by it a little. It’ll become more obvious later I think as everyone else around Charlie finds love and happiness in the hotel. We’re already seeing it with Angel and Husk and we saw it with Sir Pentious. Alastor won’t be immune from this I’m sure. Which is what I’m the most excited for. I want to see that man change—and he already is but I want to see more. I can see Alastor accepting salvation/redemption as a major obstacle or barrier and probably something very important for Charlie to accomplish, but I think it’ll be one of the best things in the series too.
Alastor is clearly the creator’s baby. He’s obviously the most complex and has the most going on internally. She’s said he’s existed since she was in high school. He’s important to her and important to the show and I can tell the show will take good care of him. I’m very, very excited for it.
I haven’t felt this excited about something in a while so it’s nice and refreshing. I love the show as a whole but I’m so down for Alastor and his arc. I don’t think I’ll be disappointed.
