but Susato would take the time to help her, even if it's just a bit. she wants Maya to succeed and feel proud of herself– she thinks it's impressive how much the young woman has done as someone without any training in law.

meanwhile, Ryunosuke and Phoenix bond over having been found by beans and also learn differences in their borrower cultures with Ryu from early 1900s Japan and Phoenix living in Japanifornia in teh 2010s. Phoenix feels some relief that he's not the first borrower to end up being Seen by a bean, and Ryunosuke is slightly concerned abt the fact it happens again in the future, especially down his bloodline.

anyway Maya finds it more fun to mess with Ryunosuke (who she's dubbed "L'il Grampa Nick") because not only is he a borrower, he's a borrower from the early 1900s. meaning he has no way of knowing if she's telling the truth about what the future is like. Maya would lie a lot about the future to Susato and Ryunosuke and sees just how much she can get away with. (she's able to get away with a lot more with Ryunosuke).

Phoenix has to tell Ryunosuke not to believe half of what Maya says after Ryu calls him a thot bc Maya told him it means thoughtful person.

also idk where to put this in this ramble but i think Susato would def be a lot more careful and gentle w the two borrowers than Maya lmao.

he'd probably just call you by your given name. sometimes dummy (affectionate) or smth else that reminds him of you — like 'you ready to go, chipmunk?' bcos you look like one whenever you stuff your face with your favorite snack and he somehow finds that adorable; or a midget (if you're shorter than him) when you try to reach the top shelves and you plead for him to get the thing for you and in exchange he says, 'you're welcome, hobbit'; or if you're on the taller side, maybe he'd call you a long stick when you plop your lower limbs over his lap, raising his perfect eyebrows at you while you could only shrug at him in defiance.

tho i think he sometimes lets the sweetness come out — sometimes being the keyword around here. in the instances where you're bummed, dejected and utterly feeling like shit, he won't call you all those teasing nicknames he randomly came up with. he'd stay silent, rub your back to soothe you and just be there for you. once you feel like opening up to him, he'd listen and won't even try to tell you what you should do or what should have happened, but will always tell you: 'need me to beat some ass, princess?' and he meant that fully bcos nobody in this world is gonna bully you but him.

nick loves documentaries, esp international ones! he tried to get the band to watch baraka (1992) w him, but only elise stuck till the end (david lasted till the last 30 mins, jack managed 20 mins in the beginning before going on his phone, dom got so lost he ended up falling asleep). speaking of dom, he's a big fan of animated films, but hates those highly stylised cgi stuff, like frozen or smth (their eyes freak him out). one of his faves is batman: mask of the phantasm, which surprises people bc that's. pretty dark. elise is an arthouse nerd, think a24 films, but maybe less pretentious; her fave is for sure in the mood for love (2000). (her real fave film of all time is actually the same as jack's, which is the proposal, but they both have "reputations" to maintain so shhh)

there's a course in my school abt contemporary music and audio technology, which focuses on composition and production, and it's a pretty sick course tbh (the students are insufferable tho) so i'd imagine jack would do smth like that. like (and i'm basing this off his actor) i could see him getting rlly into music production, maybe even sound design for film

david would either study music education or do smth that has nothing to do w music, like a craft, like carpentry maybe. he'd def be the type to be in a million bands and constantly doing small tours, stuff like that

nick would study marketing and/or advertising idk if there's a difference LMAO i don't even have a proper reason for this, i just think he'd be rlly interested in it; he'd love to analyse marketing techniques, why do they work (or don't), does it resonate w its target audience, yadda yadda yadda . he could work for a music label, but tbh i don't rlly see him as super into music as the rest of the group

i think dom would go to college for a couple semesters before leaving to do music full time (i have an au where he asks jack to join his touring band and they work on his new album together, but that’s just leftover b*ndom brainrot so i'm not too attached to it)

AUGH this issue was a rollercoaster, phew...and the emotionally devastating conclusion to this arc is still yet to come! 

I will say that it’s super interesting looking back on this, in the sense that rewind & chromedome are introduced as the first ever gay tf couple, and a few issues after we get told this explicitly, rewind is killed. this doesn't really end up being an issue representation-wise bc literally everyone is gay and there are a bunch of other significant gay characters/relationships later on, AND rewind comes back later 

but still! it’s interesting to think about how, at the time this came out, the phrase/concept ‘bury your gays’ wasn't really something that was talked about a lot (or like, it was, but not as often as nowadays, and not really under the term ‘bury your gays’ iirc), but at the time of publication this would have fallen under that trope (though rewind coming back later negates it imo). I think it would've been tough for this story to come out nowadays due to the backlash that would've occurred from rewind’s initial death (it also makes me wonder if there was any backlash when this DID come out) 

to be clear, this isn't a writing criticism - in fact, the reason this is able to work at all is because of the crazy amount of representation mtmte has. it’s like, youre able to kill off gay characters without it being ‘bury your gays’ if literally all your characters are gay by default, and there are a bunch of significant gay relationships happening - technically speaking, any death in mtmte is bury your gays lmao 

this is a completely disjointed rant but my point is like, if this issue came out in 2020 people would probably be pretty put off by rewind dying (understandably), but in the context of the series as a whole I don't consider this to be bad writing/bad representation/bury your gays 

and like, WERE people really mad about this in 2013? I am curious now, bc I would definitely feel kinda betrayed if I didn't know all the stuff that happens later 

but its pretty nice, because now I'm free to enjoy the writing and be emotionally devastated by rewinds death in a normal way, and not a ‘I'm angry at the writers for killing off one of the only gay characters’ kinda way

Trove, Neverland, Prey, Canticle, Confection. Changes all the time tho (Icarus is not included bc while i really like it, it makes me genuinely depressed when i watch it. rip me)

- Seasons in Order of Preference

S2, S1, S5, S6, S4, S7, S3. Right so: season 2 interests me the most thematically and with the plot arc. Season 1 is just rlly consistently good even though it hasn’t produced any of my top 5, and same with season 5 - i think both of them are just consistently good without any standouts for me? Season 6 i think has a really cool vibe. season 4 is very good except i don’t particularly love Game - i would have said i disliked Harvest too, but I watched it recently for only like the second time and LOVED it so idk what was going on there. Season 7 i honestly think is really good, though i found a lot of problems with it in retrospect (treatment of women and the resolution of Ludo and Violetta’s storyline). Season 3 is WEIRD, because i LOVE Prey and quite like Arcadia. Now im gonna be controversial here: i’m not the BIGGEST fan of Ride. I didn’t like it the first time i watched it, then, since then every time i watched it i liked it more until the last time i watched it when i went back to not particularly loving it...? And i straight up don’t like Coda lmao, after the previous episode had a literal tiger, a shittily-executed bank heist that lasts for half the episode doesn’t really do it for me?

It’s horrendously un-diverse. They should have got another main female character after Shirley left. And it doesn’t treat the women it has amazingly, either - especially Violetta in Zenana. And it wouldn’t hurt to have some more gay rep - a fair few of the episodes have a gay side character, usually one where you only find their sexuality out in one scene late-on. But there should be a gay main character. Grantchester managed it in its second episode! Even Lewis gave us extremely good fodder for bisexual Hathaway. I really thought Ludo would deliver - i was a fool in man’s shoes. Also, Coda - nothing could top the tiger for me, seemingly.

Monster Mania

So before leaving to the con it started to snow,40 degrees and It was light flurries and my outfit for the con was extremely thin;;my mother wasn't feeling well but managed to bare a car ride to the hotel.

I layered up a small bit and then I was dropped off at crowne plaza (my parents came later but lmao I spent 90% of this trip alone)

I got scanned at about roughly 5:20,the photo OP was set for 5:45 but uh..the map wasnt working in the hotel and I was rlly scared I'd get lost- (staff was extremely helpful bless)

The photo OP room was pretty packed,there was a table to the side for those who had QR codes for their photos. The tickets would be printed out right then and there so I took care of that,literally took like 20 seconds

But then when I went to the lady..this happened

This lady was legit just fucking baffled and honestly even I was taken aback like whO THE FUCK WOULDN'T WANNA SEE JAMES JUDE COURTNEY,WHY AM I FIRST??? HELLO??

My mom has a theory that went I left the lady went to tell James that I was waiting and what I looked like so go get ready lmao which i kinda doubt is true but *shrug*

I spent some time checking out the vendors that they had and essentially getting myself more well known with the hotel which is pretty massive. I came back ten minutes later just like she said but when I came. I was only the 5th person in line specifically for James (there were people behind me but I think most people came more for his autograph rather than his photo ._. )

They had this giant curtain set up with a red monster mania backdrop and man,the flash of that camera was bright as hell way before I even got into that small space

I hurriedly took my shit off bc I was prepped for snow and had rlly yet to get comfortable so I put my bag down,earmuffs and my jacket. Once I was up next in line,i saw him

This whole process happened in less than 15-20 seconds and it felt like h ours since the second I opened my mouth to say hello,it was almost like time itself has come to a complete halt.

And the energy that came off of James was something I've really never felt before,it was laid back enough to where all my anxiety just vanished but upbeat enough that I felt extremely welcome and safe,cozy even UwU

Susie’s gender identity will definitely get more deeply explored this part of the season. There’s pictures of susie entering the boy’s locker room and in the writer’s room, the name under Lachlan’s headshot is ‘theo putnam’, not ‘susie putnam’ so ,, theres that.

I’m guessing Harvey might finally let go of his dumbass “iM gOnNa PrOtEcT mYseLf AgAiNsT the R e D a N g E l of D E A T H with a GUN !” stance on magic and maybe even embrace some of it into his life. He might even have some kind of supernatural ability ??? The DaRk LoRd did show himself to Harvey and he also knew uncle Jesse was possessed right away.

Ngl, I think Doctor Cerebrus is a vampire. Sure, there’s the whole theory about him being cerebrus, BUT he is always in a vampire costume, he is never seen outside of his shop ( which, btw, isn’t particularly sunlit ) and vampires are the only other supernatural creatures that have ever been alluded to in the show ( remember when Luke showed up in Ambrose’s room and he asked dead serious ‘are you a vampire ?’ ) and also the yellow eye glow ? Straight outta twilight.

Nicholas Scratch will become an absolute fool for Sabrina Spellman ok 

and he will definitely try to befriend her friends and just be a part of her world, he’ll definitely even try to make friends with Harvey. 

they’ll definitely be a Power Couple ok 

Sabrina will become a stronger witch, hopefully a smarter one, and she’ll definitely have a better handle on her emotions now that she’s lost both her innocence and all the conflicts of her duality because she’s a full witch now. however, i dont think she’ll really lose her humanity so she won’t go All Dark 

Roz will be powerful af with her cunning and she’ll probably be of a lot of help to Sabrina and keeping the people of Greendale safe

PLOTLINES

Rosalind and Harvey yo !!

Ambrose and Sabrina will be even closer now that they’re both gonna be at the academy and i stan that.

Those Harvey and Sabrina pics are clickbait and they will get like three romantic scenes in the whole season lmaO.

Harvey will still be working at the mine and it’ll keep being hella hard on him

Just when things are about to get Freaky, something goes wrong with Harvey and Sabrina has to fix it and the moment is Gone.

The Dark Lord will force Sabrina to leave Baxter high and do psychological warfare with her until she quits. This will probably include hurting Harvey as an ‘I’ll take it back if you do as I tell’ measure, him making her set Baxter high on fire, maybe that has to do with the blood on the floor in the teaser.

The dead warlock mystery at the beginning will probably pop up here again. Maybe it witch hunters ? Maybe it was a kinkle even ? t o m m y k i n k l e

Aunt Zelda will become high priestess and it’ll be bad ! ass !

SETTINGS

I’m thinking that the season will begin right after the events of the Christmas episode and then the finale will be set on April 5th, meaning the events of the first season begin on October 26, 2018 and end in April 5th, 2019.

This would explain all those Valentine’s Day decorations, the weird dance the girls at the academy do, and maybe there’ll be a Valentine’s Day dance at Baxter High or maybe even a wedding ? Maybe aunt hilda is chaperoning with dr. cerebrus and Nick takes Sabrina, which could even lead to Harvalind ?

There’ll be a house party @ the spellman’s, and there might even be a crossover in that scene, as Camila Mendes and Charles Melton were spotted in that set, in costume. But idk, they might have been just visiting during Riverdale takes

There’ll be some sort of play at the academy and Nick and Sabrina will be the leads

The season will end in a masquerade ball.

i’m pretty sure that the show’s quality will go up after the rocky path that re first seasons aka now that they don’t have to spend time building up the world and the lore. plus, whenever the show goes to the witchy side of it, it usually gets stronger

But I'm dead-serious and deadly curious about what soundtrack I should be imagining for Magic Fam scenes. ;P (Maybe pick your Top 10, because Attention Spans are a thing. but if you want to make it into a full-blown lyrical analysis project, I'm totally down for reading that, too.)

I tried to pare this down as much as possible (kept around 1k so theres that!) w/out being too rambly, & still including a bit over that 10 bc i can’t PICK THINGS, but without any further ado & in no particular order~

Have Some Magic Fam’s Greatest Hits/Must Hears (under the cut):

- I’d say p much All of Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nick’s is worth listening to, but some highlights i wanna point out real quick are gonna be “Hold Me”, “Little Lies”, and Nick’s “Whole Lotta Trouble”.While most of these will have the greatest frame of reference with an Idealized Version of John & Zee’s relationship, the purely mystical sounds that they bring into their music also lends itself to something that I can only describe as nostalgic for myself. My dad played a lot of Fleetwood/Nicks when i was younger & its the kind of sound that you can put on as bg, just allowing yourself to get lost in the music or let it drift softly w/out taking too much attention. It’s the kind of music that i absolutely see Constantine & Zatanna reaching as a middle ground (what w/ John being very punk rock, and Zee i see as being an absolute sucker for pop) Its just a very happy middle & represents an idyllic childhood I’d want for Raven.

-Moving up to Angsty Teen Years, and doing a lot of projection in the mean time: i’d push/encourage listening to Linkin Park and Flyleaf. But not their heavier stuff, no. Start with something like “Shadow of the Day” & “Leave Out All the Rest” (LPs) and “There for You” (flyleaf). I absolutely headcanon Raven (in any canon) being introduced to Flyleaf thru Aunt Alice (as a way to try to Connect through a musical middle ground for reasons that would be Obvious for anyone who knows the band’s history/focus a bit more on the lyrics for certain songs…). By the time Raven meets Rose (who would introduce her to LP) she’d absolutely start edging into a Goth/Emo/Scene phase. #LetRavenHaveACringyTeenPhase2kwhatever like, just imagine her screaming her head off to “One Step Closer” while Constantine’s in the next room like ‘not my style, but good for u kid’ while he slowly turns up The Clash

-Honorable Mentions bc they have more to do w/ general relationship dynamics include:“(They Long To Be) Close to You” by The Carpenters, this is v self-indulgent, bc Simpsons fans might remember this is Homer & Marge’s song. it absolutely falls in line w/ Fleetwood as being a Love Anthem during Rae’s childhood before John n Zee move slowly into their Little Lies phase if you will“Sins of My Youth” by Neon Trees, where you start to see some breakdown btwn the two. bc the reality is that they’re BOTH weighed down by things in their past, and unless they really WORK at those things (which 9/10 john usually ISN’T) then they WILL start to break apart. helps that theres an extra layer/theme of addiction which i think adds to the tone of the song as well as hits the nail a little on the head (which brings me to the next song…)“Demons” by Imagine Dragons, (gonna show my 2010s scene phase a bit here) bc this one is HELLA on the nose/cliche for all of them, BUT YA NEED TO BE A BIT CLICHE SOMETIMES OK? this song just WORKS so well for them all and its… not quite a bop, but like? its Good. it’s Been Good and I’m so sad that it got so overplayed when first released to the point of oversaturation, its a Shame“You Learn” by Alanis Morissette, funnily enough, i was listening to this one while driving, and like? so many little Zatanna & Raven ideas kept popping into my head. it really helped to help form ideas and tone of how i want their relationship to be, and provided a great stepping stone like getting into the zone for writing that most recent chapter of Retrieval (& @squiddybeifong i actually rlly wanna rec this one esp & feel free to give the rest of these, in case where you were wondering how trash my music taste is for this AU lmao)

TBH i think ima break my music library overall like this for this AU:

70s rock/pop absolutely encompasses Raven’s childhood, so ages 5-10/11. Anything 90s Punk/early Aughts Alt Rock is Raven’s Teen Angst Phase in SPADES. On the opposite end of that, Zatanna & Raven’s relationship could probably be encompassed by the feelings I get from listening to 90s pop/rock, and Constantine & Rae’s would be more U2/80s-ish, think “Sunday Bloody Sunday” or maybe “With or Without You” vibes would be better? NO WAIT “Stay (Faraway, So Close!)” THAT ONES DEF A GOOD ONE FOR THEM BOTH UGHHHH- everything else gets sorted into Particular Circumstances & Feelings/Events… and there’s couple of those so-

Last but not least, while I don’t see Raven being quite the romantic thats presented in this song, “The Only Exception” by Paramore also includes a lot of that great relationship angst that anyone who’s seen their parents go through bad breaks & have it negatively affect how they enter their own relationships… yeah, i’ve said a lot there, that probably didn’t rlly need explaining for such a simple song but like… it Works for this dynamic, esp since John & Zee aren’t MEANT to completely last in this. not without a lot of work that I’m still… trying to be sure that they want to work out, if that makes sense? (bc i know what *I* want but that might not necessarily be where they take me lmao)
