i am my father's daughter - declan o'hara x rupert's daughter!reader
synopsis: you knew you shouldn't be doing this, flirting with your dad's friend and business partner. but he's so irresistible!
content: age gap relationship (ages not specified), maud doesn't exist au, not very canon compliant just ignore it, nsfw themes, dbf trope, accidental tense switching (ignore it)
author's note: declan is sooooo hunky #needthat also this is a rather short piece but if you'd like to see a continuation of dbf declan, i would absolutely provide <3
you're quite positive that nobody has looked as good in a t-shirt as declan o'hara does now in the front of the priory's living room, leading an open discussion about what is next for the budding production company. his biceps flex underneath the thin material when he lifts his arm in a gesture and despite your efforts to remain focused on the conversation at hand, it's difficult when all you've been able to think about since he moved in is declan.
for a month or two after he and his two daughters moved in, he had been the sole object of your daydreaming. he was so strong, so intelligent, so witty on the television, so...everything.
however, there was little that you could do on that front, considering the last name that appears on your birth certificate and the fact that rupert campbell-black, your father, and declan hated each other. it was a rather difficult watch, the night declan interviewed him, but with rupert bonding with declan over their love for their small families, it became much easier to slink your way into his presence. thankfully.
then, it became regular to see declan in your home, or to see you and rupert in his. he was hard to depart from, what with his deep, thick accented voice and his wavy hair he kept running his hands through, and that t-shirt, that damn t-shirt. you lived in pure, unending agony for a while, having to be so close to him all the time without being able to give in to this torturous desire.
but then he started blatantly running a large hand over your back as he passed behind you and then he started making eye contact with you across the room and then he helped you with car troubles where he stood tantalizingly close behind you while showing you how to check your oil.
your father doesn't need to know that you've kissed and made out with and sucked off his friend and business partner. right?
when declan finishes his speech in the front of the living room, he makes his way through the crowd to the table in the back with a few drinks and refreshments laid out by taggie where you just so happen to be standing.
his eye contact with you is unwavering as he comes closer and closer to you and there's a smirk growing on his lips.
"could you be any more obvious with your ogling there, dear?" he says quietly once he reaches your side.
you scoff, but you know what he's saying is true. "i wasn't doing anything of the sort, mr o'hara. i'm just admiring your leadership and passion for venturer, is all," you whisper.
he leans against the table, then, watching as the crowd before him mingle with each other, completely oblivious to the conversation happening between you and him. even your father seems to be swept up into conversation on the other side of the room. he turns his neck side-to-side, clearly aware of the way that his shoulders and back tense underneath the tight shirt. your eyes betray your previous statement as they immediately flick to the sight, then flick downwards.
he chuckles and takes the smallest of steps closer to you. "so you like the shirt, then, i take it?"
a small blush overtakes your cheeks and you refuse to meet his eye. suddenly, you feel his body tilt towards yours, lips just before your ear.
"i can let you take it off me if you come over tonight."
his deep voice reverberated through your body, sending chills down your neck and spine. subconsciously, your back arched from the table you were learning on and he let out another laugh.
a few hours later, you found yourself slipping quietly out of penscombe, positively giddy. the walk to the priory was one you had done plenty of times and you knew it like the back of your hand, really. slowly, the centuries old building came into view and several feet up the wall was a window with its lights still on. declan's.
as he'd done before, he met you at the back door of the home, one that leads into the kitchen, a smug look on his face.
"you took my offer quite readily," he said. his big frame leaned against the door and he crossed his arms. still adorning him was that damn t-shirt.
"as if you weren't kicking your feet waiting for me," you retort, then come to stand before him.
he shakes his head then and a sly smile tilts the corners of his mouth up. he removes his body from the frame and steps to the side to let you inside. as you pass him, a firm hand comes down on your ass, making a small yelp escape your lips.
you turn suddenly and shoot him a glare. he just pats you again, a gesture to keep you moving forward. "get on up there, little minx. before your daddy realizes where you've gone, huh?"
you turn then and head for the stairs that lead up to his bedroom. declan didn't have to tell you much twice.

This is so thoughtful and beautiful and I love it, but I think Fitz's fears come from a different place, and that is his trust issues.
Attempting to kiss someone is an act of terrifying vulnerability because you expose yourself to rejection or hurt (don't I know) in a very physical intimate way.
Every time Fitz trusted someone other than Beloved he was either used or rejected. Chade used him for most of his life, ordering him around and deploying him like a tool (and then wonders why Fitz doesn't trust him).
Molly kept responding to his advances with angry retorts to the point where Fitz is shocked when she finally admits loving him... Fitz explains clearly that he argues with Molly all the time. And then she dumps him and he doesn't figure out the real reason until it's too late.
Burrich belittled Fitz all his life for being Witted, even ceasing to speak to him, and even when that magic saved his life Burrich kept telling him it was evil... Fitz was so hurt by his rejection of the Wit and by extension of Fitz himself that he doesn't dare to speak to Burrich again until he's dying. Yes he tells himself it's because of Molly and their family but I'm not buying that was the only reason.
Even Verity used him to get an heir and finish his dragon.
Starling used him to have fun a few times a year, for years, and Fool's Errand takes time to hammer the point of how betrayed Fitz feels when he finds out.
Cue the Fool reappearing in his life like the "long lost love" Jinna the hedgewitch predicted, looking beautiful, golden, graceful and all the epithets meaning "attractive" that Fitz uses to describe him.
Of course it's hard for Fitz to trust enough, after being used again and again. Of course he's subconsciously afraid the Fool will reject him like Molly would push him away angrily. Of course the taint Starling left on his perception of their relationship makes him afraid to want another.
His internalized homophobia doesn't help. The first trilogy drills in the idea that Fitz is raised among "manly" men like soldiers and guards and stablemen. He has no female figure in his life until Kettricken appears and by then he's like fifteen. If anything in his early life helps him be more in touch with his feelings through empathy and compassion, it's his Skill and Wit.
For all that Fitz reflects on love and what it means to him, the physical expressions of love he has had were not good experiences and led to relationships ending abruptly.
So yes, he probably feels like kissing Beloved is like asking to be abandoned, and since it's the only meaningful relationship he's had that hasn't disappointed him yet, he doesn't want to lose Beloved. Why would he risk it all by giving in to instinct and kissing him?
What the poor dumbass Fitz misses is that Beloved wants it too. But Beloved knows his fate and knows the tragedy that is coming and wants to enjoy what little time he can have with Fitz while trying to avoid deepening the bond so Fitz won't be so heartbroken when he dies. In fact there is an excerpt in Fool's Errand that tells of a fable the Witted have of a woman trying to bond with a cat. The moral of that story is that you shouldn't bond with a creature that can't TAKE as much as it GIVES. This is clearly a metaphor for Beloved, who will give Fitz anything but can't take his love for fear of breaking his heart when he dies.
The tragedy is tragedying at all times with these two.
It's late and I'm having Fool's Errand Thoughts. Specifically, I'm thinking about the astronomical amount of times in that book when it seemed like Fitz and Beloved were going to kiss but then let the moment fade–or–a conveniently abrupt distraction would shatter the tension (I'm looking at you: care to dance we already do scene, mirror scene, etc.).
I'd bet that Fitz really and truly wanted to kiss Beloved in those moments but held back out of the fear that allowing a kiss from him would result in His Fool leaving again. I wonder if, in the height of these romantically charged moments, Fitz would experience a flashback to the kiss in the mountains and then the image of the Fool flying off on Girl-on-a-Dragon.
Fast forward to the end of Fool's Fate when Beloved kisses Fitz and makes him whole again - The Fool doesn't run off (at least not right away), allowing Fitz to hope that this time might be different.
Not a chance in this tragic hell.
I wonder then, after Fitz emerges from the Skill Pillar, only to find that the Fool is gone, if he couldn't help but remember the kiss as just another omen of His Fool leaving him again. I wonder if he thought about the trade-off of being forged forever if it meant the Fool stayed. I wonder if Fitz would absently touch his lips and then the mark-free spot on his wrist.
So in conclusion: no wonder Fitz was so fucking weird about Kissing Beloved in the final trilogy ("panting into his mouth" - be so for real right now dude).
#rote#rote spoilers#realm of the elderlings#fitz and the fool#character analysis#i didnt mean to write this much but damn here we are#the only other queer relationship ive seen that was this tragic#and also involved internalized homophobia from the “manlier” character#is destiel#where the other part ALSO deals with questioning how deep the bond should be since it isnt meant to last#god the sheer queer tragedy#makes me feel so many things#never thought i'd find myself finding parallels between rote and supernatural and HERE WE ARE

Honor's Downfall
↳ Honor's Downfall, Boromir x Fem!Reader, Bodyguard AU ↳ Request: may I request a !bodyguard Boromir for our dear reader ?? I imagine something with mutual pining. Make it as yearning as you may like ! (requested by anon) TW: angst, mutual pining, hurt/comfort Word Count: 1.7k A/N: I had so much fun writing this! It felt like it took on a life of its own, so I apologise if this is not what you had imagined. I tried to portray pining but I'm afraid that it might have come out as angst in stead. I really do hope you like it, and let me know your thoughts!
“How many times do I have to tell you to address me by my name?” you asked, your tone expressing your annoyance ever so clearly as you watched your bodyguard straighten his back after the ridiculous bow he insisted on performing whenever he greeted you.
“At least one more time, Princess,” Boromir gave his usual answer while his fingers moved to adjust his suit. Impeccable as always, almost to a fault.
“This may come as a shock, but “Princess” isn’t exactly my name,” you frowned.
“How awkward. For almost a year I’ve gone around and thought it was your name,” he dared to mock you in the face of your misery.
Boromir chuckled quietly as you sighed in defeat and rolled your eyes at him. It was pointless to continue your mission of trying to persuade him to abandon his manners and spit in the face of protocol. He was too noble, too honorable to do so. While it was what you admired about him – his unwavering sense of duty – it was also what broke your heart. How could you possibly dream of feeling his hands on your body when even his lips refused to utter your name?
Countless nights you had laid in your bed, imagining how sweet it would sound – your name carried by his velvety voice. Fantasizing about those strong arms around you, holding you tight against his chest - the safest place you could ever be. What you wouldn’t give to have him love you the way he guarded you – fiercely and unapologetically.
It wasn’t unheard of – you naively had tried to reassure yourself on several occasions – to develop a crush on a bodyguard. Days and nights often spent in close proximity after escaping possible danger, practically living together more often than not, the sense of security he provided when tensions were high, the cool and confident calm he always exuded – how could you not fall for his promise of always keeping you safe?
It was during those private moments away from prying eyes that you would catch a glimpse of the man hidden behind the stern exterior. His boyish smile that lit up his face when it reached his eyes, his warm laughter – so contagious and carefree you couldn’t help but laugh yourself. In those precious moments, you almost felt normal.
At least one more time, Princess.
Little did he know that there was no more time. You could no longer wait for his honor to crack.
“Well, as someone so fond of our customs, you’ll love this one – we’re going on a date,” you announced in exaggerated cheer as you got up from the couch, throwing aside the magazine that had previously rested on your lap.
“I don’t follow,” Boromir’s face morphed into a question mark, his eyebrows furrowed together as he no doubt tried to decipher your vague statement while his eyes tracked your movement across the living room.
“Tradition dictates that the royal family members must marry to secure alliances and ensure prosperity and well-being of our country.”
Boromir froze. He hadn’t expected his body to betray him like this, not when he had ordered his thoughts and desires to the deepest darkest corner of his mind. A painful ringing in his ears resonated throughout the rest of his body, suspending and trapping him in this state of cold and paralyzing terror.
He hadn’t seen this coming. His job and sole responsibility had always been to foresee any possible threats, and he had failed to see this – the greatest threat of all. The possibility of losing his princess. It’s what you were and always had been, from that very first awkward meeting when you had averted your eyes with a timid smile on your lips when he had bowed before you. His princess. Boromir had always known that he would gladly die for you, in less than a heartbeat he would willingly and gratefully give his life for yours, never suspecting that a different sort of death awaited him.
All those moments spent together, his eyes tracking your every step, admiring the graceful way in which your body moved. Boromir had often wondered how it would feel to dance with you, to mold your body to his as you glided along the music – blissfully ignorant of the world around you, endlessly lost in each other. It almost felt wicked, pretending that he was doing his job when he knew that he would gladly follow you anywhere either way. You were his sun, warming his soul with your cheerful laughter, your sparkling eyes more beautiful than any precious gem. His princess. His everything.
Now slipping through his fingers.
Boromir blinked and noticed you studying him. He cleared his throat and gathered what little of his professional composure was left at his disposal.
“I wasn’t aware of this custom,” he admitted in earnest.
“Arranged marriages are quite common for royals,” you answered plainly while your gaze still lingered on him, making him wonder if you suspected his inner turmoil.
“I thought it was only for those first in line for the crown.”
“Not always.”
“I also thought that you weren’t one for tedious customs,” Boromir remarked, surprising himself by the bold choice of words that had spilled over his lips. If you hadn’t suspected it before, you certainly would now.
From the day you met, you had fought ferociously against the weight of your title and birthright. Countless battles had been fought inside the walls of your apartment where you would demand that he disregard your noble birth and address you by your given name. Boromir had never given in, not once, even when his heart had screamed at him to oblige you. Even as you had confided in him, after suffering yet another assault by the ruthless and entitled paparazzi, about never having wanted this life, this so-called privilege - his morals hadn’t faltered once. Boromir had witnessed your struggle but had never once offered you the reprieve and normalcy that you so desperately craved. His code of conduct would not permit him to make you happy. Only ever safe.
“What do you expect me to do? I can’t even convince you - my own bodyguard - to do as I say,” you snapped at him, compelled by your own frustration.
Boromir’s words had ignited your anger, your resentment of your title reaching a violent culmination. Bitter tears stung your eyes, blurring his immaculate frame from your vision. In the face of your outburst, he stood quiet, his silence telling you what you always had feared – he would not bend for you.
You closed your eyes, forced to admit your defeat. You had to accept the cold and harsh reality – he would not allow himself to love you.
“You’re dismissed,” your whispered words were barely audible. You couldn’t trust your voice not to betray your pain and reveal the heartbreak that was in the making. He had to leave, his once reassuring presence now becoming unbearable. A living reminder of the kind of life you would never have, the kind of love that would never be yours.
Boromir stood still, his body seemingly frozen solid. Only his heart pounded a punishing rhythm, each pump echoing your dismissal of him over and over, turning his blood to ice. He tried to swallow the lump in his throat, the sudden surge of emotion threatening to suffocate him.
The sight of you pained him, the urge to close the distance between you and take you in his arms to hold and comfort growing stronger by every tear that rolled down your flushed cheek. His own aching heart battled and fought against the weight of his sworn oath. What good was honor when it prevented him from soothing your soul?
You’re dismissed.
“No,” Boromir heard himself growl, the sound startling you into opening your eyes. The grief and suffering that he saw in them was enough to break the last of his resolve and jerk his body into action. Within a heartbeat he was right in front of you, his arms going around you and pulling you in for an embrace.
“I’m not going anywhere, Princess,” he promised as he held your trembling body tightly against his own, your sobs reverberating through his soul. He held you through the worst of it, his silent patience allowing you to unburden your heart.
It was quiet now. Neither of you moved, save for the measured manner in which Boromir’s fingers trickled through your hair. You could hear the steady rhythm of his heart where your ear was pressed against his chest, the sound oddly comforting. You found peace in this moment, tucked away safely in his arms where you had yearned to be for so long. If only it would last.
“You really should go,” you whispered meekly, your heart not wanting to let go.
“It’s the one thing I can’t do,” his voice was equally quiet. “But by all means, you should fire me because I can no longer work for you,” he added before pulling away enough for his eyes to find yours.
“Truth be told, I should have been fired a long time ago. A decent man would have walked away but I don’t think I am that man.”
His eyes searched yours, for what – you couldn’t tell, but the fire that burned deep within his grey irises made you hold your breath in anticipation.
Your bodyguard cupped your face, causing a soft gasp to escape your slightly parted lips in surprise. Boromir closed his eyes and leaned his forehead against yours, a heavy breath leaving his chest.
“I cannot do my job when all I want to do is this.”
Just as soon as the words had been uttered, his lips claimed yours in a kiss filled with longing equal of your own. Warmth exploded and swept over your entire body, burning away any trace of the grief you had felt only moments before, making your heart flutter and swell in response.
The kiss felt like it lasted for hours, both of you lost in the other, trying to make up for the time that had been lost. And when you finally came up for air, Boromir whispered only one thing.
Your name.

Fr tho Marika is the worst mother ever
She gouged out the eyes of her first born and after a while couldn't even bother to look past his deformities and abandoned him in a parallel dimension to carry out her divinely mandated bloodshed but he still tried to please his mother because he loved her but at the very end realized that she didn't love him and cursed her with his dying breath, she was apparently a healer and a God on top of that but evidently did absolutely nothing to try and help her daughter who suffered from "rot-from-the-inside-out" disease from birth and did not care about her, and now with her history with the hornsent you know damn well that she absolutely loathed the omen twins and felt no remorse throwing them into the sewers
and then you have her youngest son who was absolutely terrified by the idea of becoming a God and saw all of his mothers evils for what they were but also believed that godhood was the only thing that could fix the misery she inflicted upon the world so you can only imagine the kind of toxic traumatic relationship he had with her throughout in his eternal childhood and also marikas grace sending us to murder said child
like damn what the hell
And I do not give two shits about her "my family died 😢" sob story because if anything it pisses me off even more
Like I have seen so many interpretations that Marika must have been a good person for what she did at the Shaman Village and tried to be good past that, but no.
Absolutely not.
The Shaman Village is where Marika buried her kindness and went on to commit a Genocide and one bloody slaughter after another and another and another and another and another...
Gideon says it best when he confronts us; "Queen Marika wants us to struggle unto Eternity."
Marika killed her kindness and made sure that the rest of the world would suffer alongside her, including her own children.
and yknow what?
I actually would not have minded any of this and definitely would've liked her character way more if the DLC actually went into detail about how she betrayed, murdered and stole from a pregnant woman in order to ascend to Godhood
like
yas! 👏 you go you unapologetic power hungry queen! 👏
but now with the story trailer fucking lying and the dlc doing everything to try an justify her genocidal bullshit I'm actually pissed the hell off
#the greater will is gone gone so it certainly wasnt the outer gods sending us to kill miq#marika: i am fine with any age and order#marika: except for my child son kill his ass#she's terrible actually#she fucked up the caríans too as ràdagon#literally married into the family to be a homewrecker#'in the age of the èrdtree carían astrology withered on the vine'#damn right it did#maríka saw to that personally#uri rants#marika#sote#messmer

gotta say that i disagree that nobody fights for buck. in s5 taylor said it best: buck's life is full of meaningful relationships, actually. every person of the firefam would fight for and support buck. he is and will never be alone again in his life, especially during the hard times (which they reiterated in 8x05). meanwhile, we see thus being contrasted with tommy not having any kind if support system like that. the same seemed to be the case for taylor. i know people want tommy to fight for this, and i agree that i definitely need him to check his trauma and fears to work this out with buck. but buck is the main character that has had seasons of alleged development. he died and came back, got clarity, was supposed to finally feel good in his own skin, worked out his childhood trauma with his parents in therapy, formed a support system, now discovered he is bisexual and felt free with it. and now tommy is the only one who should grovel? i get the idea but. evan buckley is the character we have seen grow and learn. i want him to put in the work as well. look at how he fought for his job when he thought he would lose it forever. THAT is what i need from him rn. if he is just giving this up with a shrug, then i don't want bucktommy in canon. we have seen tommy taking care of buck and supporting him in all his shenanigans. i need to see that buck is absolutely serious about this and ready to fight for it. if he doesn't, he still hasn't found his true love or still doesn't know what he wants in life. i am bored by this. we have been here multiple times already. do something else with evan buckley finally or just allow him to be a bachelor forever.
okay yes buck has meaningful platonic and familial relationships.
no romantic partner has fought for him. abby ghosted him because of her own issues even though she's a fucking grown ass woman, ali got a reality check and broke up with him when he was in recovery after nearly dying, which okay, fair enough. and while i believe taylor did nothing wrong in reporting the jonah story, the narrative wants us to think she prioritised her work, and she did betray buck's trust which, again, buck wanted to protect his firehouse (which is his family) so he wasn't being objective. reporters exposing scandals within govt orgs that are supposed to protect the public is not a bad thing, actually. the only time he's broken up with someone first is natalia and we were told it's because she was obsessed with his died-and-came-back experience.
and listen. i love tommy more than anything. but buck is still the main character. we're going to see buck going through the breakup, not tommy. we're not going to get much about tommy's past. we're not going to get any scenes with tommy and another character if buck isn't also there. you remember karen going to chimney and them day drinking together because they thought hen was being unfaithful (again)? i wish we could see tommy and chimney talking about their buckleys. but the way the show got rid of all minor characters and consistently treats LIs as nothing more than LIs... i'm not hopeful. we'll get one scene with tommy's Explanation and i'm not even hopeful it's gonna be well written (but i'm sure lou will be serving. god. they wrote such a shitty break up scene and he fucking ATE.)
yeah, buck fucked up by jumping the gun and asking tommy to move in with him when he couldn't even say the i love you, and i hope this will be addressed in future eps. but tommy immediately ended the relationship because he Knows Better and left buck heartbroken. this is what happened on the show. the average viewer isn't doing ten layers of analysis to understand tommy's perspective, nor should they have to. i love the metas, i'm digging into tommy's headspace in my next fix it fic, but this is still the dumb weewoo show.
i don't think tommy needs to grovel, i don't think he's the Bad Guy in this story, i have a lot of empathy for tommy and so does the GA! they're not mad at tommy, they want him back! they want bucktommy back! and i want them both to fight for each other, to apologise and admit to their fuck ups and admit how much they care about each other and that they want to be each other's forever love! i want them to say i love you!
but buck is still the protagonist in this story and i don't want to see him running back to someone who broke up with him in such a way that had him asking "wait, did you just break up with me?" because again, this is what happened on our screens. i want tommy making the first move, opening the door for reconciliation, showing that he knows he made a mistake out of fear from his past trauma, for buck to then know he is wanted, that tommy came back for him, and then put in the effort to fight for them.
hope this makes sense. and as always, for people reading this - this is not the space for you to bash on buck's previous LIs, please take it elsewhere.
#asks#Anonymous#bucktommy#as someone who's been in buck's shoes#you don't know how meaningful it is when someone comes back for you#its only happened once in my life and even though we ended up falling out again i will always remember her as the one friend who came back#yeah yeah i'm too attached to buck because we are the same person. leave me alone lmao

"Really? You are giving me the key to woo your sisters, I'm liking my chances," she was beaming with happiness. Though, the idea of meeting any family did frighten her. She kept that to herself for now. "Um, fair enough. If they're not embarrassing, then hm, I'll owe you something. Your choice."
"Don't feed my ego," she warned as a smile peeked through. "Three things, yep. I can kinda make grilled cheese, scrambled eggs, and chicken noodle soup. That last one is tough," she joked, though it had been a mission to learn. Though, now she made a mental note to check in with her dad, to see when they could visit. Or if he'd be away on some trip, maybe they could go then. Just to not scare Eli with the, meeting her parents conversation.
"Woah," she breathed out at the twist and turns that brought him here. "Sounds like I may need to be thanking this lady and her luggage." Or, more accurately, she should be thanking him for his kindness and willingness to help a stranger. That's what led him here, after all. "That is definitely some way to land in Texas. So, you've been at the diner for quite some time, wow. If not Texas, what was the final stop then?" Only curious to know where he would've ended up if he had made his connecting flight. "Us two with the pretty eyes, lucky us." Laurel laughter burst through her lips, shaking her head as he agreed with her. "With marshmallows? Now, that sounds good. Watered down sounds like a crime. Well, the moment there's a chill in the air, I'll be buying hot chocolate with the marshmallows." That piqued her curiosity, what kind of absurd questions were they asking his sisters? "You just want me to ask, and prove that you don't share, huh? I'll indulge you though. It'll be my first question to your sisters."
Laurel's heart was beating in complete anticipation as his fingertips grazed her lips. Meeting his green eyes was a rush of excitement, subconsciously leaning in to meet his lips. It was a bit of an odd angle, but she didn't mind it at all. It was a slow warmth spreading throughout her, her heart pounding in her chest as she leaned in just a bit more, trying to get a taste of his lips. Trying to learn everything that had not yet been asked between them. She had loved the two kisses they had share up until now, but this one was special. It was gentle and slow, nothing rushing or interrupting them. Frankly, she could've stayed here all evening. "I can confirm that I'm a fan of the slow make out." A breathy laugh followed his comment, nudging him gently with her nose. "Is there an option for all of the above, including that unspoken third option?" Because that option sounded really good right about now. "The order of the activities doesn't really matter either," she mumbled, and that might've been interpreted for shyness, if her mischievous smile was not betraying her.
#I called the menace out?? I believe that was laurel calling him out!!!#isa has no idea about any of this and the fact that his hoodie just changed owners haha#his gentility with her is what makes her mush not gonna lie#hot potato with the playlists is my fav though!! Omg yess last night's playlist additions were top tier!#we love aventura in this fort#the panama foreshadowing was genius!! your brilliant mind omg i am still not ready for that moment#fortmark dropping holiday shenanigans soon!#the bloody nose will actually leave me on the floor with pain#but it'll also just...the cuteness afterwards!!#haha they're playing hot potato with the 'they're just like you' swearing kiddos don't resemble them#but juju knows the truth!!

Transcript: I hate when stories have NM's Gang or Dream treat Cross like a sad innocent ignorant bean who needs to be defended from everything and characterizes Cross like he's the "baby brother" of the Gang. I'm open to out-of-character stuff (I'm an AU fan and love AU reimaginings) and can suspend my disbelief a lot but I LOATHE this characterization for Cross. Even the most well-meaning of Dreams and family-coded of Gangs isn't going to be [over]protective of Cross because "he's the youngest of the group, so new to the Multiverse, and is so vulnerable" - which he isn't. The Gang are all around the same age except Nightmare and maybe Horror. Cross might be physically older than Dust and Killer since decades passed in Xtale (21 years if the comic is anything to go by) while they were stuck resetting. Yet he's the one made into the innocent baby brother caricature. Cross is a determined, traumatized, sometimes silly, angry, cow-fearing, regretful, and motivated grown-ahh 30-31 year-old soldier who traveled his world for years, fought in a war, was a Royal Guard, and was betrayed by and then killed everyone in his home. He is not a defenseless child who is confused by death, hides behind the other Gang members and constantly clings to their hands when someone looks at him funny, and needs to be taught how to fight or how a toaster works. It'd be one thing if Cross was changed to be a kid when this characterization is used but no, he's supposed to be a post-TimelineX adult Cross. It feels like some in the fandom want an infantilized Papyrus on NM's Gang and chose to force Cross into that character role. Ick, ew, and no thanks. Rant over.
#utdrmv confession#confession#undertale au#// I’d call this “fanon negative” but I’m a strong believer that there’s a huge difference between fanon and blatant mischaracterization

emily prentiss + leaving and coming back for her family
#criminal minds#criminalmindsedit#criminalmindsverse#proceduraledit#emily prentiss#emilyprentissedit#cmverseedit#tvedit#filmtvcentral#dailyflicks#femalecharacters#bitchys#mine#edit#*#category*#tag meta#forever thinking about emily prentiss as a yoyo falling away from her family and coming back when they tug#and that her motivation for back and forth is the same - it's always about what she thinks is best for her family in that moment#her choice is always to protect them and the fact that she leaves to protect them from HER? that she always sees herself as the problem??#(she ruined matthew she betrayed doyle she killed tsia)#BUT BUT BUT them needing her? hotch asking her to lead reid asking her to fight jj asking her to stay??? she always /always/ comes back#and i find it very interesting that this yoyoing usually runs parallel to her own moral reflection - she left the first time because she#both morally objected to strauss's political game and to protect the team as individuals. she came back in s7 because she wanted something#'clean.' and she considered leaving in s13 and s17 because she had broken her own moral code each time. and that's such a meaty facet#of emily as a character because her priority is ALWAYS her family and protecting them. but what that looks like changes and costs#and is never ever an easy choice for her. emily does what she needs to as a protector but she doesn't let herself off the hook. she thinks#DEEPLY about what she does and whether she's ok with her actions. which sends her toward distancing herself from her family#for their own protection (because she's the problem see above) and the whole cycle starts again!!#(someday i'll rant about how this all ties into her leaving in run - the one time it was about HER but also not - but i'm out of tag space)

I'm not even kidding, this is the version of clue I used to play with my friend group. We designated each colour to a member of the family, Dick was Ms Peacock, Jason Scarlett, Damian Green, Tim Mustard, Cass White, and Steph Purple, and while we didn't have all the fun extras that you thought of, we kinda roleplayed whatever character we picked, acting like we were them and trying to solve the case of which of us had betrayed Bruce and finally killed him. I think we played 9 rounds straight once, and weirdly, it wasn't Cass a single time.....
(I played Damian everytime, and killed Bruce 2 out of the nine times, RIP.)
pls consider the hilarity of: BATFAMILY EDITION OF CLUE. Who killed Bruce Wayne in Wayne Manor?
Was it Alfred, Dick, Jason, Tim, Damian, Steph, or Cass?
Did they use Alfred's feather duster, a crowbar, Damian's longsword, brass knuckles, Bruce's "World's Okayest Dad" mug, or a shotgun?
Was it in the garden, the abandoned ballroom, the pool, Bruce's study, the roof, the Batcave, or in front of Jason's suit memorial?

And I also wondered how they would react to "My immortal soul"
Wuya: For her, this is a personal series, the viewer of which she became not of her own will, and without ability to change the channel. (then, together with another unfortunate person, drawn into this circus - Plop-Plop, and with a bottle of wine they complain to each other) There are ENOUGH moments that she would prefer not to see and forever forget, but this situation also has its advantages. There is something very funny about seeing Chase show off like a peacock in front of a ninja, and not only does he not fall for it, but also looks back at him like he’s a dirty sock. (At the same time, experiencing some kind of sympathy for? Which he denies as best as he can, but at this rate, even Omi will begin to suspect something) And when his attention is completely absorbed by the ninja, this gives her the opportunity, for example, to steal a couple of Shen Gong Wu Balances the state between looking with pain in the eyes and laughing as a hyena at situations
Sorceress: She hates the First and with all her soul wishes him, and his receivers especially Randy, a painful death for what they did to her lover. And she can’t just go and try to kill the First, because she understands that it will be difficult for her to resist them alone, and Chase’s existence also made a couple of changes to her plans:
1. Contrary to her first expectations, Chase does not seek to kill the First, as she decided at the first meeting. He also unobtrusively let her know that she would not interfere with his (toy) ninja. And if because of her something happens to Randy and the other ninjas, he doesn’t care. So she won’t so blatantly make attempts to get rid of the First, because then she will also have to deal with the thousand-year-old evil reptile. (she will not give up trying to take revenge, but now she needs to act differently)
2. The scenario where the First loses to Chase in his duel/makes a deal, etc. and ends up becoming the First's slave is pretty good for her. The sorceress is aware of the steel principles of the First, who would rather cut his own scalpel than give up his duties voluntarily (that’s why he didn’t retire after transferring the post but preferred to imprison himself in the form of a book) And see with your own eyes how the First will essentially become a pet their enemy, and how they wipe the floor with his pride as if with a rag - pretty good. (maybe she will even contribute to this. Perhaps :)
3. And another, in her opinion, unlikely outcome of events. Where Chase dies and the First is left alone again. The sorceress is not blind, and I think because of the specifics of her magic, she understands matters relating to feelings and emotions better than anyone else. He doesn’t admit it, but Chase’s death will still affect him, and when the guard lizard dies, she can again take matters into her own hands and calmly plan her revenge.
BTW Dff drew awesome art of the First under a love potion, and remembers that Amanda clearly has extensive knowledge in this area. It seems the culprit is found

is anyone else going to make a Gravity Falls x Frankenstein crossover, or do I have to (I do not mind doing so at all, in fact, I would relish the task)
#seriously. the parallels go crazyyy.#stanford as the neurotic morally gray Victor stand in#fiddleford as his romantic well-meaning best friend Henry#bill as the misunderstood creature thrust into a form not suited for him#the other characters would be less one to one#dipper could be walton I think#but then stan and mable would be kind of left out#those three could potentially be the family bill becomes enchanted with/learns from (the ones who eventually betray him/run him out)#I don't know if I would want them to be Victor's family (considering they all die/have strange incesty relationships with him)#(hello elizabeth)#so they'll likely wind up needing to be other characters#BUT EVEN STILL#IT WOULD BE FIRE#gravity falls#gravity falls au#stanford pines#fiddleford hadron mcgucket#stanley pines#dipper pines#mable pines#I'm annotating my copy of Frankenstein rn if you couldn't tell (or procrastinating on annotating it)

Been thinking about a postgame scenario that goes in a direction I don't think canon would ever take in a million years, but like... I think it could be really compelling...
And that's the idea of Chrom becoming Plegia's king after Grima's defeat. And specifically giving up his claim to Ylisse's throne to do it (leaving it to Lucina when she's old enough).
Because here's the thing... The game ends with Grima's defeat/Robin's return in the sacrifice ending. It doesn't address what happens to Plegia at all, and while I personally maintain that Aversa is the most qualified candidate to rule, her canon ending provides that she goes back to the village she was born in. So, fine. Let's give her that.
But SOMEONE has to do SOMETHING because realistically, Plegia is in dire straits. Validar, the king and the leader of the Grimleal, is dead. He gave, like, ALL of Plegia's resources to the Ylissean League (well, okay, we don't know how much, if any, he left in reserve, but... He really needed Walhart gone and it's not like he had any reason to think that anyone would need resources once Grima was running around, so... chances are good there's little to nothing left in the wake of the averted apocalypse). And the population has been utterly devastated, because not only did people (exactly how many is unclear, but presumably it took more than just a couple) have to sacrifice themselves to renew the fell dragon's power, but Grima was also spawning Grimleal onto their back at the final battle. Their losses are so immense...
So first of all, Chrom is definitely responsible for taking all their resources and setting half of them on fire (Now to be fair, Flavia and Basilio are also responsible, but... Idk, I kinda feel like they'd bicker with each other over who has to do the crappy parts of the job and then agree that they should just ask Chrom if he can do it. Like "Haha, if you didn't want to deal with thieves ambushing the Longfort to steal construction supplies, you shouldn't have gone and beaten me at the last tournament!" "Oh, shut up. Let's see if Chrom can send his thief friend over to talk these guys down. Or kill them, whichever." I mean, Chrom is always going to be their guy who knows a guy.) There's just no way Chrom would abandon the surviving Plegians who need help anyway, but especially not when he knows the war with Valm would've ended before it could begin without them.
Of course, there's the historical hostility between Ylisse and Plegia to consider, but... If anyone's protesting, it's probably the Ylisseans. Because the survivng Plegians, uh... probably were never Grima's most devoted followers in the first place (if you really wanted to give Grima your life, you'd rush to the front of the line at the Dragon's Table, right?) and even if they used to consider themselves true Grimleal, the religion's leadership is destroyed, and—for the purpose of this scenario, I'm considering it post-sacrifice ending—the fell dragon is gone and not coming back. These people narrowly avoided becoming Grima's breakfast or Grima's meat shields. They all almost certainly know someone who wasn't as lucky. And the one who saved them... Well, it was Chrom, wasn't it? Because he believed in humanity enough to challenge the concept of fate, a fate that the people of Plegia were surely taught was inescapable. Despite their history with Ylisse, it's hardly unreasonable for them to see Chrom as a savior to them specifically. The second coming of the Hero-King who ought for the lives of all humans, really.
And yeah, I'm going here... Chrom is Marth's descendant. Marth was Altean. Former Altea is is modern Plegia, so technically, the people can argue that he's actually theirs.
Doesn't it sort of make sense, even? Plegia is ruined, the god to whom the theocracy was devoted killed. "What we need is to restore the glory of ancient Altea!" And who better to help them than Chrom, Marth's successor in blood and in spirit?
But Chrom would frown and say no. Of course he's going to help them restore their country to prosperity—or at least to independent, peaceful functioning. But king? Sheesh, that's going too far. Come on guys, you don't really want that. Besides, he's already ruling Ylisse...
Except, he's not ruling it as Exalt. At least, not at first he's not. He forswore the title when he started his rule and in canon he is only official welcomed as Exalt after Grima's defeat. But what if he just... continued to not accept it. It's not like he ever wanted to be Exalt. He only has the right to rule because Emmeryn died—because he failed to protect her. It has nothing to do with any of his successes.
But if the Plegians made him their king, then it would be because of his own accomplishments.
And in a way I also can't help but find it heartwarming, because it was the Plegian people who got him to truly understand Emmeryn's ideals. He wanted peace, he wanted to follow her path, but it wasn't until the Plegians took her sacrifice for the peace offer it was and refused to continue fighting Ylisse that Chrom was finally able to comprehend what it meant that Emmeryn believed that all people wanted the same thing, that peace is something for everyone and not just purehearted saints like her who would never hurt a fly. So wouldn't it be sweet to expand on that existing connection? For the people who once bore a grudge against him and his nation to say, actually, our home is your home and you belong with us... For Chrom to reach back and decide that these are his people and that he will protect them...
Especially because that's what he's always done for Robin. Your father doesn't get to determine your path for you, your past doesn't dictate your future, you always have a place beside me because we are two halves of a greater whole. This AU is definitely a chrobin AU, because when Robin gets back I want them to rule at his side (after all, I do have feelings about Grima's loyalty to a people who have been praying to them to end their suffering for a thousand years).
Now, I do think that Chrom would never leave Ylisse while little Lucina was still growing up, but... Honestly it would probably take quite some time to establish a castle for Plegia's new ruler anyway (especially if they go super hard on the Altean revival theme and want it to be IN former Altean territory, which has become the "border wastes" and undoubtedly needs some help... But EVERYWHERE in Plegia needs help, so what better time to give the land some attention?) So when Lucina is an adult she can take over as Ylisse's true Exalt, and Chrom can focus his efforts on the other side of the border. I think he'd still be awkward about the whole thing, approaching it like "Well, I guess I'm here if you all still want me..." but Robin's there to give him confidence and the people there are SO excited for their hero to come and live with them and together they all usher in a new era of peace and prosperity as Ylisse and Plegia themselves become like two halves of a greater whole.
#this au kinda came to me out of nowhere today but also it's based on years of awakening brainrot so it's kinda also not out of nowhere#idk i've been thinking a lot lately about how risen king chrom wears a crown and how grima never does#and i just wanted like... a good timeline variant of rkc kinda? plegian king chrom?#and i was thinking about how much chrom resists becoming the exalt#and i was thinking about how he still resents the ylisseans that threw rocks at emm#and i was thinking about the hierarch who betrayed emmeryn being a longtime family friend who helped guide her whe she was young#and i was thinking about how chrom has every reason to be more grateful to those plegian soldiers who threw down their weapons in the war#than to any member of the ylissean nobility#and it just hit me like... you know what... he could be very happy in plegia. no apocalypse required#i've written fics where chrobin rule plegia before but never one where the primary ruler was chrom so i am full of new thoughts on this one#uh but don't get too excited because i don't really have the energy to write a real fic for this au any time soon asdfghjkl#nevertheless i'm tagging it for reference...#my writing#fe13

The different parts of Gotham War not lining up at all in terms of plot, character motivation and characterization is bad enough, but now that DC is suddenly trying to explain when other titles like Detective Comics and Batman and Robin are taking place in relation to Gotham War it gets even worse because now all of these storylines make so much less sense too.
#Gotham War#Listing all the reasons why Gotham War and Ram V's Tec run don't fit together would be complicated#Because they are doing similar things with a similar cast of characters but in extremely different ways#And I don't have the energy to go through both storylines to get the details right#But Batman and Robin is simple#You can't have a cozy father-son-story and Bruce going insane and shoving all the parental responsibilities onto Dick#to be a brooding loner again taking place at the same time#Is the entire Batman and Robin book supposed to take place during the few days that Damian was the only one on Bruce's side in GW#Before Bruce abandoned Damian?#Because unlike when Death in the Family happened you can't even use the excuse that Damian changed his mind#And decided to stay with Bruce even though dinf ended with everyone including Dami not showing up at the talk Bruce wanted to have with the#Which was what they did in B&R 2011#Because back then it was the family that decided they didn't want to work with Bruce anymore#In GW it's Bruce who tells them to leave him alone#He very explicitly abandons Damian despite the fact that Damian didn't betray him and stayed loyal#So this time Damian can hardly change his mind and decide to stick by Bruce because it's Bruce who rejected him#I'm still so confused by Zdarsky putting that in the story in the first place because he clearly has very little interest in Damian#Out of all the male Robins he played the smallest part in this#It probably would have been better for B&R if Damian had been somehow absent for Gotham War like in a lot of previous batfam events#And left the time B&R takes place unspecified#So that it just takes place in its own bubble#I'm usually all for DC telling us how things fit together but for that to be good things need to actually line up#And not outright contradict each other
