As a born and raised Torontonian I am absolutely delighted by every victory lap Kendrick Lamar is taking with Not Like Us. 5 Grammys? Incredible. Getting 83,000 people to enthusiastically sing along to a line about Drake being a groomer? Exquisite. That "You know they love to sue" dig? *chef's kiss*
We all know all about The Allegations but I feel like you have to be FROM Toronto to understand what a like. Menace. Drake is. He'll just turn up at an event. He'll show up on stage with your favourite artist. He was CONSTANTLY at Raptors games, but ONLY during the 2018-2019 season when they were good and also not if he could get Warriors tickets. I don't think I've seen him at one since? He's ~representing the city~ ok but who asked you to. Sit down.
I genuinely can't think of a single public appearance Drake has made since Not Like Us came out and I think we should give Kendrick Lamar the key to the city for that alone.
#kendrick lamar#drake#rumour has it he was at the Limp Bizkit show in the summer#and might have come on stage#but then Fred Durst mentioned him and everyone booed#like if the LIMP BIZKIT fans are hating on you it's so over#i can't even hate on his gaudy-ass house#just bc it's in a neighbourhood FULL of gaudy-ass houses owned by the WORST people

I mentioned this in an ask on Thursday, that II also had a YouTube channel. Unfortunately all but one of the videos are lost to time. It’s an original song for the band he was part of around the beginning of ST. I’ve got the audio posted below for you. It is live drums over a guitar/bass track, no vocals. The genre is kinda deathcore metal? I’m very bad at naming genres, so there's probably a better term.
In all of his descriptions I cut out the drum kit specs to save space in this post. They are all as follows:
Specs:
Dw Collectors Exotic maple in Okume Feather. 22x18, 10x8, 14x12, 16x14 Craviotto Cherry 13x5.5 Solid Shell Snare. Meinl Byzance cymbals (drivers seat L-R): 16" Vintage trash crash 13" Dark hi hats 6" Traditional splash 17" Traditional medium thin crash 20" Vintage sand ride 18" Vintage crash 18" Extra dry china stacked with a 16" Vintage trash crash 18" Extra dry china Remo heads - p77 (snare), Clear vintage Emperors (toms), Clear PS3 (Kick) Dw 9000 hardware, 5000 hi hat stand and Pearl Eliminator pedal
[Band Name] - Wraiths
Upload Date: 26 August 2017
I remember when I first realized II was in another band at the same time as the ST EPs and it blew my mind for some reason lol. But of course he was, he's a phenomenal drummer. This was also before I realized it's common for drummers to be in literally every band in a 50 square mile radius lmao.
Zara Larsson - I Would Like
Upload Date: 11 August 2017
His description here about being nervous when he’s filmed 🥹 He’s grown so much and he absolutely slaughtered the Drumeo video’s he’s been doing. And who guessed our percussion king likes pop music? I guess after that first Drumeo interview it’s not much of a shocker lol. I wonder if Ves has chilled out on his pop/BritPop hate? I feel like it’s likely.
Limp Bizkit - Boiler
Upload Date: 24 August 2017
No comment on his music tastes here ✌️ not a fan of Limp Bizkit but I'd happily listen to this cover lol.
Daniel Bedingfield - Gotta Get Thru This
Upload Date: 05 September 2017
If you haven't heard this song before it's very dancey/edm/pop. I love how insanely wide II's range is, he's such a great fit with Ves in that aspect.
Deftones - When Girls Telephone Boys
Upload Date: 21 September 2017
I love that he chose a generally unknown/unpopular Deftones song to cover. 10/10 for the percussion on that song, though.
[Band Name] - Ø
Upload Date: 12 October 2017
There's a jump cut about 7 seconds in because he didn’t want to wait for the “long” intro the song has (it's literally like 12 seconds lol impatient man).

Part two of my experience, for @myfirstlobotomy
In 2015 Limp Bizkit had a huge tour in Russia and I knew I had to be there no matter what. I bought tix to Moscow and Saint-Petersburg shows and soon after they announced the second show in Moscow 🙄 I KNEW I HAD TO BE THERE TOO. So my plan was kinda simple: go to the venue as early as possible and try to ask someone from the crew for a guest-pass. Yes, that’s possible and yes I got it 😏
Anyway, we go back to the meeting… The first one I met was John after he went out of the club to smoke. I asked him to draw something in my memory notebook as I did with Lethal but John first refused and then made a doodle 😂
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/dd5f673b4b230bcb393dffaabb6cea4c/1407c5c161df1126-69/s540x810/7ba7c4a2bf6cd4e22cca990b1b5f207b1f5299b4.jpg)
Also I have a drawing from Fred’s manager Gabe who was kind enough to give me the guest-pass.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/cc32e751bdb07e14b258c945d3589451/1407c5c161df1126-45/s540x810/bb27c67c2954aa40326e1de2dc618110de4a378c.jpg)
Then Fred arrived but I literally forgot how to speak and he left. Then there was Wes, who chuckled when I shouted to him that I had a present (😭). Dw, me and my friend asked Fred’s wife to pass presents to the band. Wes left too. Here I am with John 🥺❤️
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f9eb94cf155bf4901dae5d00cad55d77/1407c5c161df1126-22/s540x810/24ed5ef3b5d6810d81944f220ddb33eaa98c9822.jpg)
After the show Gabe also was giving out picks and drumsticks. He gave me a pick and I asked for a drumstick too (yeah I know, I know…) He responded “I already gave you a pick!”. I said it was for a friend which was then true. He said he’ll give it to me the next time lmao
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/634917268a0b520918a3264c521b7b56/1407c5c161df1126-de/s540x810/a01c72bdcb7858d4e406c8ee4173629f15d10f5a.jpg)
Also Fred went out after the show and I managed to get a sign, but no photo cuz my phone was dead.
The second show was the next day, I had to wander around the streets for a night because I had nowhere to go (the last bus to the place I stayed was long time gone 🥲). Gabe gave me and a couple of my friends guest-passed, I gave him a bottle of Karelian Balm (alcohol drink made with berries). I remember he opened his backpack looking like I was handing him a pack of drugs 😂😭
Long story short, the second show in Moscow was over too. I managed to catch Kadaver’s (Wes’ guitar tech) kimono they used on the Halloween show. I still have it lol
The Saint-Petersburg show was a month later… *time passes*
Here we go. I had a friend there who already met the band a couple of times and knew people who could help me to do it.
We went to the Hotel, waited there… First time the guys left and I had no chance to meet them and I was already sad.
I wanna make a disclaimer: stalking is bad and I really hate bothering people but I couldn’t help it…
When Wes went out for a walk me and a couple of girls (maybe there were guys too, I don’t remember) followed him. 😭😭😭
He stopped by a lady riding a horse which was a popular tourist attraction in Saint-P. While he petted the horse, we caught him up. I was in the first row right behind him and went completely numb… The man of my dreams was real and standing right here… Dude… My friend was more adjusted to talking to famous people and simply said “excuse me”. Wes turned back. I still remember his eyes when he saw a bunch of fans.
Man was flabbergasted…
Anyway he was kind enough to give signs and take some pics with us. I also asked him to draw something which he did (sorry for the background lmao)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/1cae5ec33d916d094f83b4c04a1d8329/1407c5c161df1126-2a/s540x810/57af7b59b7d199a11c69e36eff6a66c6bf859d76.jpg)
Also I gave him one of his paintings to sign and he seemed happy with it and told something about the style or something… I was too stunned to comprehend English (or anything I guess), so i didn’t understand him neither the first time nor the second one (I asked him to repeat, lmao).
My friend took a pic. Which, thanks to my stupid phone, looked like this:
(This one is edited by my other friend who was like “Wth did you do with your camera dude”)
I tried to get a sign for my friend who got no money to go… “Her bad” Was replied 😭
Then he said bye-bye, gotta go!
We also met his tech and some guys from the crew he was walking with and went back to the hotel to try and get to Fred (didn’t succeed tho).
One “highlight” of that night was the horse lady. I don’t remember why we stopped near her… Maybe it was a coincidence or something but at one moment I felt something heavy on my foot. I looked down and saw a long leg… That fucking horse stepped on my foot 😭😭😭
I yelled “HORSE IS ON MY FOOT” and the lady said angrily “you shouldn’t have touched it then”. I fucking didn’t… The other girl tried to pet the horse and I suffered. What a life, right?
The next day was a show. As always I came to the venue very early. When I saw a bus going to the back door, I ran there. Catch! Fred, Wes and John! I briefly asked Wes for a new photo since the first one was you saw what. He murmured “sure”.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fb42d9c22a0f4f8ef7c1cfd01220e150/1407c5c161df1126-15/s540x810/f26d2614f4c2e8439944c10613d26d3b9cb6f5e0.jpg)
I don’t know what’s with my face, I’m sorry 😂 still better pic than the first.
Fred was taking pics too, I remember that security guy was telling me to get off and I replied to him in English asking for one photo.
Fred heard me.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/1d8a6a952286955b070a851e225a4ea3/1407c5c161df1126-1d/s540x810/404343abe9c4bd5cd6ca28c3fb55a048e61695fc.jpg)
The same problem with my face but whatever you know 😂
Aso I accidentally photobombed someone’s picture with the band
I look very fashion model, don’t I?
The show was hella great, I remember when I was taking a pic Fred pointed to me… I’ll post this pic separately since I can’t add more here.
Also Gabe finally gave me a drumstick which is still with me since me and the dude I was going to give it to are not friends anymore:)
I also briefly met Sam in 2020, I posted a pic here.
I LOVE THESE MEN TO DEATH ❤️

Since some people seemed interested, here are some music vids I'd love to make if I ever get the chance to start animating again (under a read more cause there's a lot of them):
Lithium//Evenescence- edgy Snowfrost PMV about her crimes. The vid would follow her actions from the beginning of Snowfrost's Fate all the way to her death at the end of Moon Rise. I would probably give cats edgy 2008-esque designs to go with it, because I'm crazy about that kinda thing. (This is the one I want to do the most tbh. I've already got a script made. If I could pass it on to someone so they could make this PMV real I would. I'd literally make all the designs for it too, probably even storyboard it)
We Are One//song from The Lion King 2- AMV featuring Wolfheart singing to Moonpaw. It'd probably be very colorful and have a lot of movement and would be a killer to animate. Their relationship is important and I like things that can show it
One Lonely Visitor//Chevelle- PMV about Jaybird and her relationship with her sister Snowfrost, taking place from Snowfrost's Fate up to Jaybird's death near the end of Moon Rise (another one I really really want made. This one also has a script created for it)
Pardon Me// He is We- This one would be a AMV/PMV mix; it would be about Snowfrost and Wolfheart's feelings for each other, which slowly fade over time. The vid would start out lighthearted, maybe colored in pastels, then become metaphorically and literally darker as the song progresses. Eventually it would depict Snowfrost having delusional thoughts about Wolfheart, about getting him back, or possibly making him another of her victims
Look What You Made Me Do// Taylor Swift- ok listen. I am not a fan of Taylor Swift, especially not this song. But after listening to it multiple times a day on the radio at work years back, back when SOTM was being plotted, I started imaging Situations to cope with it. And this song ended up perfectly fitting Nightshade's story in my head. So this would be a PMV about that. (Can't elaborate what that story is cause its major spoilers, you'll just have to wait and see.) This would be a vid I'd make by the time half of, if not all of, Moon Fall becomes published
Ghost// Saint Asonia- probaby a PMV/AMV mix including all the point of view characters in Signs of the Moon, and how they handle being a prophecy kid/having an omen hanging over their heads. It would probably be heavily focused on how these cats look to or turn away from Starclan for it as well. There would be a lot of action/movement/colors during moments when the music swells and especially during the bridge of the song (did I ever mention this is one of my favorite songs ever?)
Poor Unfortunate Souls//song from The Little Mermaid (animated version)- AMV/PMV of Hazepaw being visited by the ghost he's led to believe is Sea Breeze who's trying to help him
Pet//A Perfect Circle- AMV about the future POV Possumpaw and how he deals with his manipulative mother and asshole brother. The whole thing might be in black and white with the only color coming from cats' eyes and blood/tears. I have to think about Possumpaw's story more before I come up with specific details about what goes on in the video. I have a couple of ideas tho
Blue Lips//Regina Spektor- Swiftcloud AMV/PMV mix highlighting all of Moon Rise cause I think it'd be neat. The whole thing would be in grayscale with some details colored in blue
Brutus//The Buttress- Another PMV starring Nightshade. This one specifically is about her relationship with her mentor, Wolfheart. How much she looked up to him at first, then slowly came to hate him and seek his downfall
Lemon Boy//Cave Town- PMV about Urchinpaw and Hazepaw's budding friendship. The story would probably be told through Urchin's POV
Criminal//Britney Spears- PMV featuring Cloudypaw (a major character in Moon Fall) and her fatal attraction towards Nightshade's son, Weaslepaw
Behind Blue Eyes// Limp Bizkit- another PMV about Snowfrost and her story, told from more "sympathetic" pov because we support womens wrongs <3 this vid would show a lot more of the isolation and loneliness Snowfrost feels especially as she goes down her murderous path
How to Save a Life//The Fray- AMV with Tigerpaw/lily and Moonpaw/face regarding Moonpaw's cross clan friendship with Hazepaw/storm. The vid would be in Tiger's POV, showing her concern for her friend. Throughout you can see Tigerpaw's dislike and mistrust of Hazepaw while Moonpaw remains blind to his flaws. The disagreement puts a strain on the friendship which will also be shown thru the vid
Hellfire//song from The Hunchback of Notredom- AMV featuring Darkpelt who sings about his emotions pertaining to Nightshade (can't elaborate much because spoilers, but the tl;dr is he has a massive crush on her and does Night's bidding because of it, but he hates it as it goes against Starclan)
Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)// Chevelle- an AMV/PMV mix focused on Whisperpaw and her relationship with her family + dealing with her secret "ability"
Genius Next Door//Regina Spektor- another PMV about Swiftcloud. This time its her during Moon Fall, watching her kits grow and make choices, while her clan falls into chaos once more due to plot events I can't reveal atm
Warbringer: Jaina (Daughter of the Sea)//song from World of Warcraft- I have 2 different PMV ideas for this one. One is of Snowfrost's time at the beginning of her Super Edition, where she's dealing with her punishment of a Warriorpaw Ceremony and her growing feelings of anger during it. The other idea is a depiction of Sea Breeze's story
Werewolf// Motionless In White- Werewolf! Hazepaw AU. Idk how else to explain this one. I'd have to show the script for others to understand what it's about (its a WIP). This would be a Halloween video
Sally's Song// cover by Amy Lee- a PMV of Moonpaw singing about Hazepaw, with frames showing their relationship
#warrior cats ocs#can you tell I like edgy rock music and disney musicals or#also this list is ever growing cause I always come up with new ideas#I'll start a new post once I think of more#also when I say “start animating again” I do mean it. I used to animate using flipnotes and posted on hatena#theres an archive out there n I have my vids on it if anyone is interested in seeing em. although they're from 2012-2013#so the art is bad lol. but Im still proud of them#I miss animating. I'll try n get back into it when I get a new and powerful enough pc#for now all these amvs will remain dreams#sotm video ideas#viti shoosh

Yo! Listen closely darn it.
I am an equius/bec noir/fred durst/eminem kin and I go by him/him. you may reffer to me as Equius or Bec or Marshall Mathers or Fred or Slim Shady and MAYBE Eminem if I'm feeling adequate. I am Equius and he is aro ace. But Bec Noir and Eminem and Fred Durst are in a love triangle, they are also me. But I suppress Bec Noir because he killed dream me. I also supress Fred durst because he's on Beck Noir's side but both of them sometimes slip through when I am not paying hawk eyed attention. I have vivid memories as all these people and i know eminem is still alive in this reality and is striaght but eminem who is me reality shifted from another reality where he is gay. I am also a prroud lutheran. I am a person you would call an artist and I aspire to make it into a career one day. I also have distinct memories as Bec Noir, Fred Durst, and Eminem. I also remember memories as Equius as well. From homestusck. i do not use Equius' (me's) typing quirk because it is laborious and I do not use it anymore because i inhabit the body of a human now (it is hell i no longer have my muscles unless i do years of training)

Brian (Fast Food Nation) - HCs
SFW headcanons for Brian <3 GN!Reader
Brian definitely listens to Nu Metal.
I would love for him to be into The Cure and Slowdive but lets be honest, that guy is 100% a Limp Bizkit fan with absolutely no irony. He genuinely thinks they are the epitome of cool.
Of course it is cool, but like, Brian is absolutely unaware of the fact people don't always think Slipknot is the coolest band to be into.
He definitely loves Beastie Boys too.
Surprisingly, he does shower pretty regularly.
Unsurprisingly, he doesn't wash his clothes enough.
Brian doesn't even bother with a sniff check.
(He's low-key kinda stinky)
You would definitely end up intervening.
"Brian I love you but you genuinely stink, man."
You two would be the dorky ass couple who were always bullying each other.
He tells you you're annoying on a daily basis, and you tell him he's a total loser.
Holding hands? Hells no. Noogies? Absolutely.
You make a pretty feral couple. You're both sarcastic as hell, lazy, with no respect for any kind of authority.
Stereotype teenage delinquents.
He acts like an asshole when you're around others, both of you just annoying the hell out of one another.
When you two are alone in his room, it's a different story.
He likes it when you just lie on top of him, giving him the opportunity to wrap his arms around your waist and just feel your weight on him.
He lies with his head between your thighs, too, letting you play with his hair. You put little braids in it and he always ruffles them out afterwards. He likes to put his hands around your thighs and squeeze them gently.
Your first kiss was him was awkward.
He absolutely leaned in with his tongue out and his eyes half shut.
You did an "Ew, dude, what the fuck?"
He was so embarrassed, his face went hella red and he was devastated, thinking you were flat out rejecting him.
He had pretty much convinced himself into leaving Colorado forever when you placed your hand on the back of his neck and pulled him down so you could kiss him properly instead.
He was awestruck, but probably played it off with a mean joke.
Brian probably smokes weed, and if you're into that then you probably do it together a lot.
You probably drive out into the woods together and go find a nice spot to sit out and smoke. If you're walking through the woods then you would both throw fir cones at each other, turning it into a ruthless competition. You wouldn't even remember who struck first.
You'd hit him really hard in the back with one as he was picking more up and he'd drop them all and run at you, laughing, picking you up fast before you could get away and kissing you, your feet still off the ground.
(He's actually soft as hell.)
You'd both sit at the edge of a quarry and talk for ages about stupid hypotheticals and people you hated.
(He acts like he doesn't care, but he knows everything you like and don't like. He knows your personality so well and you always make him laugh.)
If the weather's good, neither of you would be against going for a swim in the blue quarry water.
Brian would definitely have to be convinced by you first.
You light fires and throw cans on them to watch them explode, sitting by it as the sun goes down and it gets dark.
If you get cold he might let you huddle into his side and wrap his big black hoodie over your shoulders.
When there's no one around to witness his gooey behavior, he'd wrap your hands in his and blow on them to warm them up.
Brian always seems to be warm, even when it's cold out.
At work, when Andrew makes a comment about you, Brian is immediately defensive. He really doesn't like anyone acting sleazy towards you.
That never stops him from making explicit jokes when both of you hang out with friends though.
This man is not above making a blowjob joke in front of all your friends.
Usually met with a "Ew, Brian. That's gross."
They're used to it though.
In public you two are just like best friends, messing around and arguing over dumb shit. Everyone knows you're dating him, but you're both kind of losers so no one pays much attention.
You borrow his band t-shirts all the time, provided they're clean.
You both wear matching string bracelets.
The most PDA either of you do is when you're hanging out with friends around the bleachers, one of you will lie with your head on the others lap while everyone talks.
He loves you to pieces. He does tell you, during the quiet moments when you just get to be happy and in love.
Basically, Brian is a sweetheart pretending to be an angsty asshole.

itadori yuuji x femreader!
wc: 1.5k
angst, fluff (kinda¿)
note 1: this is my entry for my lovely @kshira 's friends with benefits collab ! hope u all like it ✦
note 2: click here to listen to the song that inspired this whole thing. yes, i headcanon yuuji as a 2000's kid and a die hard limp bizkit fan
note 3: tagging @yuujispinkhair bc i know you love yuuji just as much as i do, hope u enjoy it ! have a nice one <3
-hey, can i grab one of your shirts?-
you were both naked, smooth skin gleastening with a sheer layer of sweat that stayed over your bodies as a reminder of the previous heated encounter you just shared
a blush appeared in yuuji’s face when he found himself longing on your bare chest. so he looked away, realizing he had been shamelessly staring at you
it was an inescapable situation. nothing new, really. but certainly no less special to him. it has happened a thousand times by now, and even when everything was supposed to be just sex, there were feelings all over his mind and heart, and it was just too late to try and stop them from growing. so he’s been trying to keep it all down, all serene. as if a complete chaos didn't happen inside his being every time you stayed overnight
-you don’t even have to ask me- his tone was smooth, still submerged in the bliss of the moment. while now, carefully observing the textures of the ceiling of his room. keeping himself occupied to ignore the desire he had to avert his gaze
-even the limp bizkit one?- you bit your tongue at the end of the question. it might seem as something simple, but that old piece of clothing meant way more than what it actually should
because your friendship comes from years back, years in which you were totally irrational, basically in the middle of puberty. and it was an unfortunate period, yes, but you could always count on each other. the bond has remained strong until today, and of course, with the addition of a couple of things that you never thought you’d be capable of doing together as thirteen year-olders
fucking, for example
-sure. just ‘cause it’s you-
you grabbed your panties from the floor and slipped them back on, walking to one of itadori’s drawers to grab what you were looking for
a black oversized shirt with the image of one of the band’s album cover on the front. the figures of five bald creatures over a pile of sausages just slightly vanished from all the use over the years. it’s yuuji’s absolute favorite
chocolate starfish and the hotdog flavored water. limp bizkit
you fucking hated that name
but nevertheless, you put it on and walked towards the bed where he was laying, taking little jumps and modelling it for him. he smiled brightly at you, leaning on one elbow to be able to see you better
-how do i look?- after a few more ridiculous poses, you climbed back to yuuji’s side and straddled his hips
-it fits you way better than me- he exclaimed breathless, while the blush returned to his cheeks and ears. but that was not the only thing he found difficult to hide, the look that escaped from his infinite brown eyes only showed how much he was devoted to you, to your whole being
-of course it does. when i see you wearing it, i automatically think of high school and i feel sorry for your poor self- unfortunately, you never saw it cause it’s something you are used to. because "a twinkle in the eye is just a twinkle in the eye”, you just laughed and rolled with him in the sheets. never noticing
all a game to you, all friendship. as it should be for him too
-hey!- until he was the one on top now, and all the playful aura was minimized to your cheek being caressed with one of his long fingers and the tucking of your disheveled hair behind your ears, tenderly
itadori always gives the impression of being very rough with everything he touches. ever since he was a little boy, his hands have been scarred from all the times he's been too harsh with something. but with you, he has always been delicate
in all those nights where he held your nude figure under his, breathing in your ear, calling your name in a murmur. the times he held your hand for no particular reason while you walked together. the times he hugged you for your birthday, or when you accomplished something important, or when you reunited after weeks of not seeing each other, or when you cried
he always takes you in the most fragile way he can manage. because if he does it abruptly, his heart is convinced that you will break into pieces, and he will never be able to grasp you again. that is why he takes care of you, as he has never taken care of anything. that is why he loves you, like he's never loved anyone
even though he is aware you don't really feel the same
-do you remember the day you got this shirt?-
he smiled at the memory and kept on listening to you. blocking all the crescent bad thoughts from his head, as he was used to
-when we ran under a scorching sun, one of those days of our summer vacations to go and get the newest released cd from this band at a record store that was at the other side of town, because you couldn’t stop bothering me?- -of course i do! is still the best album i’ve ever heard. and the shirt was on sale! it was totally worth the 27 calls i made to your house to wake you up- you pinched his arm and he shivered, holding in a smirk. he is fine with this, his brain screamed, this is enough -my mom is still mad at you, by the way. and all because you were in love with fred durst, you freak- -i still am! i wanted to be like him so bad when we were on high school- at least he admitted it. laughter bubbled up effortlessly, between the pillows of the bed, filling the room with am unexplainable serenity -oh yes, i remember. you never took off this shirt, wearing those awful baggy pants, and that red MLB hat placed backwards on your head- it was painful to the sight to even think about it, abominable, a disaster, a halloween costume gone wrong used as a daily outfit -dear fuck, i forgot about the hat- you laughed together once again and he hugged you by the waist, hiding in the crook of your neck to bask in your scent one more time. while his brain shouted about this being enough, his heart refused it and went louder
if only you knew
and you could, you really could know everything. all about the desire in his soul, the way he’s been feeling for as long as he can remember
but he also found himself in denial. he was not interested in ruining what you have. it's all casual to you, you are basically best friends and you’ve been fuck buddies for a while now. it’s great this way. why messing it up?
cliché feelings are for the weak, right? -you know, jokes aside- even when he's become an expert at hiding his emotions over the years, there are times when he can't help but be honest with you. yuuji is like that, expressive, kind. and sometimes, he ends up hurting himself -i’m really glad you were the one i share those memories with. that cd really has some special tunes and you listened to all of them for me- the one, he was referring to that song. he always listened to it and thought about you, about how he meant every lyric, how he believed you were the one for him. but he never talked more about it, about it’s meaning
because, even if he never told you explicitly, the first song he asked you to listen to was that one. covered under the pretext that he really liked that “it was different from what he used to listen” and a bunch of lies that he doesn't even remember anymore. not a single clue about what he truly meant, that he was dedicating it to you. but still, he was hoping you'd maybe notice by yourself, just like now
you are his everything already, you just haven’t realized it yet
and it’s probably better if it remains like that
-yeah, no problem. i’m glad about it too- and after that, a minimal silence stood as a thin barrier between the two of you, comfortably. for a second, itadori was afraid that his thoughts were so loud that they could be heard and echoed in the said barrier. but before it could happen, he got interrupted
-yuuji- you whispered poking his ribs, earning his attention once again -hm?- looking down at you, he waited for your response, now calmly. with you in his embrace, he felt like floating. if only things were always like this, if only you were entirely his
-you still have it?- your eyes were glowing while staring at yuuji’s face, in an expectant way. sitting up and smiling brightly -the cd?- he mentioned, as he sit up too, to be at your level. always searching for your proximity, for your warmth. and you nodded at his question -of course i do, it’s my favorite after all-
his favorite because of all your memories together. afternoons in his grandfather’s house when you were younger, walking home together, making schoolwork and failing math tests, eating cold noodles at lunch, sharing songs and dancing foolishly in his room at midnight
then going to college, your awkward first time together and the nice ones that came next, the way he trembles lightly when he finishes and the way he loves to hear you moaning his name, how your hands always dance around each other, spending days in his apartment, still eating cold noodles at lunch and still dancing foolishly all over his room at midnight. it’s you, it’s always been you
-so, can we listen to it together again?-
and he thought to himself again, this is fine,
this is enough for me
understanding everything has never been my deal maybe you have crossed my path to live inside of me or maybe you're the reason why i'm losing all my decency but
i believe that you and me we could be so happy and free inside a world of misery and i believe that you and me we could be so inside of you, inside of me 'cause this could be the one this could be the one this could be the one this could be the one
i want you to stay and blow me away, away, away, away

some choice quotes from the subreddit which I peeked at since I'm nosy:
"They make videos for kids like “WE GOT ATTACKED BY A ANGRY GHOST” and have a hot babe in the thumbnail, wtf is going on, who tricked joe this bad"
"Bro literally I checked out their channel thinking it’s gonna be like paranormal activity, but it was more like the ghost hunters from South Park. “What was that!! There’s a wet fluid going down my pants”
'Damn, mad respect…. I made it 14 min. I’m assuming not one ghost was proven to exist throughout the entire episode. Someone please tell me I’m wrong."
"No, im 42min in and you hear about how they tried everything to get famous and settled on Ghost hunting because it was safe and not illegal so they wouldn't get in trouble like they did with the other stuff they tried. They didnt mention anything about having a 6th sense or experiencing paranormal stuff when they were young. Nope they found out they could get views doing this so they stuck with it. So yeah their whole thing is bullshit."
"They only farm kids for views, there is nothing special or good about it, you understand that it’s like 5-12 year olds that are watching this mindlessly right? They use sexuality and fear to get this kids hooked."
"Lmao, they're all grifters but I would take anyone over these tiktok e-boys. They could have had someone like Jack Osbourne, Josh Gates, Jason Hawes, Katrina Weidman, the Buzzfeed dudes- hell I'd take Zak Bagans. Those people would have more to say than just "we're popular because we're cute and 16 year old girls love us, please subscribe to our channel where we make the same scared face again and again".
I am picturing all of these coming from dudes sipping on Mountain Dew after doing 20 push-ups. tho some of them are being won over lmao. I almost feel a little bad for snc since now their fandom is mad at them and Joe rogan's is trashing on them. since when do Joe rogan fans get to feel superior.
THE GHOST HUNTERS FROM SOUTH PARK LMAO. What a topical and timely reference. 🤣
I'm sorry, this whole thing is killing me. These guys have their little asses so bent out of shape over this and it just makes me laugh so hard. I love when the dude-bros get all mad and yelly because a couple of not douchey boys who are extremely popular with the girls show up and take over their testerone fueled man time.
SNC really is getting pummeled from both ends today, but hey- what else is new lol. Half the snc fandom hate watches them at this point anyway, and who actually wants a bunch of Limp Bizkit wannabe internet trolls like these Rogan stans joining the snc fandom? This might be the best case scenario for them, lol.
This'll be the last time they ever do anything mainstream though, just you watch. 🤣

Its been a while since fan fiction light. Seeing how Richard likes acting i only wonder why he has not ended up in a movies (even little cameos like Flakes does). So please try to come up with the role in a movie (any genre) that he would 99% accept when offered. In other words who he would like to play and which type of movie
Something this makes me think of is something Joe Letz has recently said about him. So he does these podcasts where he interviews music people (he did one with Wes Borland/Limp Bizkit for exemple), and obviously a lot of people are asking for Richard. And what he said was something along the lines of “eh ... Richard’s gonna need some convincing” and then corrected himself and said something like “actually, I just really have to catch him in the right moment when he’s excitable and just do it.”
Which perfectly fits the image I have of him. I think he tends to be down to anything if it’s in the heat of the moment, something that catches his attention and when he’s happy, but as soon things take planning and consideration he starts to get in his head and overthink things and things start to happen very slowly. I’m down this rabbit hole with his guitars right now, but it’s actually such a good exemple. That story how it takes him years and years and years to be happy with that burnt finish? That’s him.
We tend to think of him as this very prolific songwriter and I am sure he is, but he also seems like someone who gets lost in that last 5% of finnishing things. Like some people are okay with leaving things at 95%, but he wants 100% and the problem is, those last 5% take as much time and effort as the entire 95% before that.
Unfortunately, movies don’t work that way. I can see him being asked over lunch and him going “sure, let’s do it, I loooove movies 😍” and then the same person calling him a week later to discuss details and him being “eh ... but what does that actually entail, what do I have to do, what will it look like?” Also, movies are hugely collaborative efforts and he’s pretty self aware of wanting to control how things ultimately will be like in the end. Putting himself over into the hands of a director doesn’t seem to be his thing, really, and even if he does it like with Åkerlund he walks away with “I love Jonas, but I didn’t like the outcome, actually.”
I think he would like to be the director and actor all in one and completely be in control of the entire image. I’m pretty sure he would love that, at least in theory. In practice it would take him something upwards of a decade to get it all the way he wants it to be like, and even then he wouldn’t be happy and just release it because it has to get done one of these days and he has to come to terms with maybe not being as good a writer as someone else, or actor as someone else, or director. He knows how it should be like but he can’t execute it, and then he’ll regret all the things he didn’t manage to accomplish in that time because the movie took so long. If you think an album is alot of work, a movie is alot more work and requires a lot of “good enoughs” because it has so many moving parts. You’re in sweden right, so you’re familiar with the concept of “lagom”. Let’s just say, Richard Z. Kruspe is the least “lagom” person in existence, and call it a day.
What’s interesting is that this man is super tolerant about a number of non-perfect things, like he will consume the most trashy western and stupid hollywood glam shit happily and enjoy it because I don’t know, it’s escapism I guess, and then go home and be like “none of what I do is good enough.” He KNOWS things don’t have to be perfect, he knows non-perfect things are perfectly capable of making other people very happy, but then he refuses to make a guitar with a printed graphic even though lots of fans would happily have that if it meant his signature would be more affordable because “it’s fake.” I think he’s hugely concerned with his dignity and being true to himself and unfortunately movies require making a fool out of yourself more often than not, and letting a director, a cameraman, an editor, a colorist, and and entire production team have input over how it will be like.
He KNOWS he’s being unrealistic, he’s gotten better over the years at laughing about himself, but the thing is, I think he’s in another sense gotten worse because he won’t beat himself up anymore as much about not being able to be anyone that he isn’t. It’s a base requirement for being a successful musician to let it go now and then, and he has done it so many times in order to get anything done at all, but why put yourself through that if you don’t have to? There are priorities, other things where he needs to do that will take precedence. A tiger can’t change his stripes, a Richard can’t change being slightly neurotic and complicated about creating stuff. I think if Quentin Tarantino asked, he would say yes because he is a blatant fan boy, and then hate the experience because of everything above.

there's a big difference between angsty music and music about trauma and addiction and mental illness, and I'm real tired of people not knowing the difference.
now, take korn. we all know korn, right?
now I know they have a lot of lyrics that might come off as super angsty out of context. "get the fuck outta my face, NO!" "shut up, shut up, shut up I'll fuck you up" "dubstep noise" "knick knack paddywhack give a dog a bone, this old man came rolling home" "I'm feeling like a freak on a leash, feeling like I have no release" "I'm gonna cut myself and watch the blood flow down" "I'm never gonna love again, never, never" "actual dubstep" "shut the fuck up and get out" "I can see I can see that I'm going blind" "all day I dream about sex & fucking" "I can't control myself I fucking hate you"
yeah... that sounds like the scrawlings of a 12 year old who wouldn't eat carrot sticks and so he couldn't have a twinkie after dinner.
except the lyrics of korn are written about and inspired by a kid who got bullied for allegedly being gay, got molested, got addicted to drugs he used to self-medicate for depression anxiety and insomnia, etc. all these songs are written because of trauma and mental illness. it's not just angst. he's not just crying about dumb shit, he actually had a couple emotional breakdowns trying to perform some of these songs. oh yeah and then his wife overdosed and died last year. korn has legitimate reasons behind why all the songs are full of variations of fuck you and fuck off. and yet some ignorant people decry korn as being just angsty nu metal (even though they along with RatM and deftones CREATED nu metal off the back of faith no more and primus). it was limp bizkit, kid rock, and staind who made all the angsty trash music. not korn.
three days grace, that first album WAS angsty to the max. but one-x was written mainly about adam's struggles with drug addiction. and then the third album went back to angst again and they never returned until matt replaced adam and they started making songs about mental illness and trauma again. (saint asonia is still angsty except when sully from godsmack made a good song for them).
slipknot, that's not really either. it's a bunch of dads in halloween costumes who realized they had fans and started making music FOR those people.
evanescence, that's kinda on either side. amy clearly lets her meatloaf influence show in her super hammy dramatic ballads in bring me to life, my immortal, everybody's fool, hello, etc. but then you look at whisper, my last breath, going under, and taking over me- oh yeah and their fucking death metal cover, torniquet- all really serious, grounded, down-to-earth songs about, you guess it, trauma and mental illness (and suicide). and then she let the fame get to her head and started treating everyone around her like shit, but whatever; head from korn is a dick too.
bullet for my valentine: angsty to the max. it's their fault we have pierce the veil, sleeping with sirens, black veil brides, escape the fate, and the dozens and dozens of other edgy bands. (in pierce the veil's defense their third album is fucking top-notch and a clear triumph of post hardcore, and in black veil bride's defense they went for more of a traditional heavy metal sort of approach and clearly put most emphasis on their musicality especially when they got zakk wylde on their kiss cover).
linkin park: good golly gosh it's trauma and mental illness yet again. mostly. chester had that aspect, mike was kinda flexing his flow and production even though they're both mediocre at best. he knows that without chester they're just fort minor 2.
I'm sure I've painted enough of a picture

Bring Me The Horizon - amo album review
I’ve been a fan of BMTH since the late-There is a hell era and obviously they surprised me once again. I’m gonna go song by song on the album because each of the songs have something in them that differs from the one before.
i apologize if you feel something, the first track is already a lot more different than the previous BMTH albums. It begins as a typical intro with long silences between the melody. Then Oli starts to sing on a really high pitched poppy autotuned voice. You can hear no instruments whatsoever except the synth that plays the melody. Then it changes to this ambient style that somehow suits the band’s music but feels awkward without the guitar and drums. When I first heard this song I already realized it was nothing special, just a little intro that might hype up the crowd before they start performing.
MANTRA, the first single of the album is a little less heavy than the That’s The Spirit era songs. A lot less heavy if you think about how Oli’s vocal style changed since 2015. It finally has drums and heavily distorted low tuned guitar and even screams in the background but it still feels like an alternative rock song just because of the verses and the high pitched bridge. The guitar riff is banging, the chorus is catchy, not a bad song afterall but it will still disappoint the old fans of the band.
nihilist blues is definitely the weirdest song on the record. It’s basically a trance/europop song that divides the listeners to two types: the first one would say: what the fuck is this shit, i’m not listening to this album anymore, and the second one would be: wow they’re brave as hell for doing this, I’m looking forward for the rest. I’m not a big expert on europop or trance or whatever electronic music genres there are but it really reminded me of an Armin van Buuren beat and apparently they copied a little from a relatively new Evanescence song as well. Grimes is featured in the song and her vocal style fits it really well. It has a creepy feeling that makes the song feel like you’re in a club full of drug addicts and the only thing left for you to survive is becoming an addict (for the music). Personally I think probably something like this was on the band’s mind when they wrote this. You definitely won’t like this one unless you like electronic music. You can hear the drums and guitars in it (they’re playing the electronic distorted thing with a tremolo pedal probably) but it’s barely recognizable.
in the dark, the next song has a really strange feeling. It sounds like a pop song because of the samples it uses but it still has the guitar (both clean and distorted) that reminded me of Doomed from the previous album. Both the guitars and the vocals are catchy as hell and after the first few listens you can hear what was the point of writing this song, here that “gateway band” thing begins that Oli mentions in a lot of his recent interviews. They want to be a gateway band that shows people the grand spectrum of music from electronic to heavy metal (or metalcore if you’re a genre-nazi) and do the same thing that Linkin Park or Limp Bizkit did for popularizing the crossover of rap and hip-hop and screamy, heavy rock music. It has the same experiencing feeling that got me into Linkin Park and even tho the song and its lyrics are kinda forgettable, the intention is clear and I personally like it a lot.
wonderful life, the second single of the album is without a doubt one of the heaviest ones on it. The intro seems like a classic BMTH style guitar intro with a little less distortion and a really weird, progressive time signature (for my ear at least). The main riff is simple, heavy and you can definitely bang you head to it. The chorus is catchy, the lyrics are relatable for the emo kids, it has a squealing scream from Dani Filth, which makes it seem like the metalcore days are creeping on the band. The outro chorus reminded me of their song ‘Oh No” from the previous record just because it’s so monumental but maybe that’s just me.
ouch is a cheap interlude in my opinion. It’s not even 2 minutes, the samples get boring in the end. It has a drum and bass kind of feeling to it. It reminded me of Cure For The Itch by Linkin Park, just because of the placement and the “drum” beats on it. The nanana thing that goes on in the chorus also gets boring really quickly. The lyrics are about Oli’s ex-wife Hannah Snowdon and it has a nice throwback to their 2015 song, Follow You with the “under your spell” lines, and it’s clear that he left that time behind with this song.
medicine, the song with the weird-ass video is the next one on the album. If you haven’t heard a single BMTH song in your life and you’re into the more pop-ish side of alternative you’ll probably say: holy shit this is a banger. The first couple of lines in the chorus are really far-fetched in my opinion, it’s the “we’re edgy and cool kids” vibe that is either cringy or makes you feel like the band got old and they still want to appeal to teenagers and young adults. The message of the song is the same as the previous one. The melody of the chorus and the vocals overall are not that bad, they’re catchy, but just like the intro of the album, it still misses the guitars, although this one has some really quiet clean guitars in the background. It’s clear that the vocals are in the focus and it’s stressed by shoving autotuned Oli’s voice down our throat.
sugar, honey, ice and tea is one of my favorites off the album without a doubt. The riff is heavy, the song still feels like an alternative rock song but this time the guitar tone for me seemed like an old HIM song that’s mixed with a That’s the spirit era beat, lyrics and melody. It has the same feeling when I heard Happy Song for the first time but this one has a Throne-like chorus with the samples going instead of Oli’s voice. In the outro Oli goes crazy and lets out Count Your Blessings-era styled screams which definitely help the song appeal to older fans. It’s gonna be played at concerts for sure.
why you gotta kick me when i’m down, oh boy where do i begin. Imagine Post Malone writing a song for a no name alternative rock band. Add overdistorted guitars and a mumble rap beat and lyrics. You’re done, you get this song. It shifts genres so fast that it seems like Oli went from ‘Lil Sykes’ and back to himself a couple times in just 4 minutes. It’s not a terrible song but if you don’t like the style of modern soundcloud rappers and the whole mumble rap mixed with guitars thing you’re gonna hate this one.
fresh bruises, after the mumble rap song the boys in the band were probably like: hmmm what’s the next popular thing in 2019 that has nothing to do with rock. That’s right:”lo-fi hiphop for sleeping and studying” radios. The lyrics are only 2 lines, the beat gets faster but it’s still boring, even for an interlude. Definitely the most forgettable song in the album.
mother tongue, is the last single before the album came out. It’s the most honest love song from Oli that he’s probably ever gonna write. For personal reasons right now I can relate to it but if you can’t, you’re gonna forget this song even after a couple of listens. It has a powerful chorus, a radio friendly pop beat, cute ass lyrics and the most important thing: it has the potential to infect the radio stations and get the band even more recognition. The chord progression is really popular, (has the same chords as Africa by Toto), the vocals (with the help of autotune) are great. It has the Follow You vibes all over again but here you get an impression of a happy Oli Sykes that is in a fulfilling relationship and has a stable mental state. This progression is really respectable even if you don’t like the song itself.
heavy metal is my most favorite track from the record. It’s basically a huge “fuck you” to the oldest fans who only play Medusa and Pray for Plagues on repeat to this day, 13 years after their release. It’s got that middle finger in the lyrics that makes you think: damn this band really wanted a change and nothing can stop them. The song made me feel like Meteora days Linkin Park once again because of its beatbox styled bridge and the dropped, heavy guitars. This song shows the new direction of the band once and for all: they wanna make all types of music for both new AND old fans (listen to the last couple of seconds for the Pray for Plagues style vocals from Oli) but still says that nope we’re not gonna change, we grew up, we still like our old songs but you’re not gonna hear them from us because we’re different people now. Big props to the band to be this brave and say: this shit ain’t heavy metal.
i don’t know what to say, the last song on the record for me seemed really off topic from the album until I read what it’s written about. It’s about a friend of Oli who passed away from cancer. Oli didn’t write a song posthomously but the lyrics make it seem like he did. The song itself would sound like an 80′s power ballad from a classic rock band for me if I wouldn’t notice Oli’s vocals and the modern drum beat at some places. It even has a damned guitar solo, an acoustic guitar throughout, and orchestra. (which again reminded me Oh No, the closing track of That’s The Spirit) The song is forgettable for me, even though the message is really touching and meaningful. For a closing track it’s good but since it’s really different from the rest of the album it seems that they only put this song on just to honor that friend that it’s written about.
The album is one of the weirdest concepts I’ve heard from any rock band since A Thousand Suns by Linkin Park. The band put their heart and soul in it, you can tell by the level of production. On some songs it’s really well executed, others seem cheap and boring. My summary is that old BMTH is dead, they’re still gonna play rock music as they did with their previous records but they’re gonna expand and experiment to other directions, making it as progressive as possible just to keep the music entertaining.

A Tribute to Chester: Life, Death, Rebirth, and How He Lives on in Memory
How do you properly memorialize one of your childhood idols? Are you supposed to scream, cry, and gnash your teeth? Or do you put on noise-canceling headphones and block out the ambient noise of the outside world for a while? All of these are difficult questions to answer. I guess that’s why they’re rhetorical. It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost two years since Chester Bennington passed. So in a way, this simple little essay is how I can honor him. It feels nice to write something that isn’t fiction or related to a blog for a change[1]. Let’s see how it goes.
Part Zero: Notes from the Underground
I must confess that I was never a member of the official fan club, the LP Underground. I suppose in retrospect that’s how I could have proven I was a legit fan despite never seeing them live in concert except via live stream. But even then, that was a rare occasion. I do remember a t-shirt I got from Hot Topic when I was 12 or so – it had the faces of all of the guys gathered around the classic script font of the band’s logo.
I don’t remember what happened to it. The last time I remember wearing it was in August 2014. I supposed by then I had outgrown it. But still, buying whatever merch I could and getting all of the CDs and eagerly anticipating the next music video all had to count for something. I knew the names of all the guys, even Mark Wakefield, who was never an official member, and Phoenix Orion (Dave Farrell?), who left before Hybrid Theory but was back in time for Reanimation – more on that later.
But I digress. Let’s get on with the real meat of why we’re here. In terms of structure, I thought it would make the most sense to go album by album, discuss some memories I have associated with each, and attempt to unpack why they remain so important to me even as time has marched on since then. Growing up with the band, as I’m sure many of you did, you might feel a similar connection that you never fully grasped until the night of the tribute show in December 2017.
Part One: Hybrid Theory
#Forfeit the game/Before somebody else/takes you out of the frame and puts your name to shame/Cover up your face, you can’t run the race/the pace is too fast, you just won’t last. [HT Track 4: “Points of Authority”]
Although Hybrid Theory came out in October 2000, I think the first time I heard it was for another month or two after it came out. It’s still one of the most vivid memories I can still recall, the first time “Papercut” blared out of a cd player. I was sitting in the basement at my buddy Andre’s house and we were playing Perfect Dark with our mutual friend Alberto. It was honestly the perfect soundtrack for the game. Here’s what I said back then: “Dude, who is this? This is awesome!”
“It’s Linkin Park.”
Even then I thought the name was cool, the way that they intentional misspelled Lincoln – the rule of cool and all that. Elementary school hadn’t even ended yet, but it was still part of my formative years, musically speaking. Before then, I had never discovered any music on my own – my friends had always shown me. My parents didn’t raise me to enjoy music – I hated classical and most of the “standards” went over my head. My parents were still throwing karaoke parties. My old neighbor John showed me James Brown. That’s how I latched onto my first favorite song of all time “I Feel Good”. Then came Third Eye Blind, another early love of mine. But that’s a story for another time, as is my recollections of Limp Bizkit. This tale is about LP.
I wouldn’t realize it at the time, but Hybrid Theory would continue to be one of the most important albums to be me as I left elementary school and hit middle school. The days of Perfect Dark and WCW/nWo Revenge began to fade[2] as Diablo II and Starcraft emerged. The sound of Chester’s howls and Mike’s swagger along with the rest of the bands driving instrumentals provided a backdrop like you wouldn’t believe. “In the End” stood out in particular, although as middle school came to an end, it became clear that those reasons weren’t ones I wish to discuss here, now. Ask me again another time. It was at the end of middle school (hell, even before) that I confronted the notion of how deeply uncool I was, and probably tangled with imposter syndrome, anxiety, and depression long before I knew what any of those terms meant.
I already knew I was an introvert who was much more inclined to stay inside playing video games, reading, or writing instead of going outside to play street hockey or anything like that. That shouldn’t have meant that I was an easy target for bullying, but hey, it was the 90s and then the early 2000s, so what could you do? LP helped me cope, even if I couldn’t always express my anger in responsible ways.
I think here is a good place to stop and point something out: mental illness has been something that has been immensely important to me – it affects me and I know it damn sure affects my wife and mother in law. I went through a very dark time in my life roughly five years ago that LP also helped me pull out of – but I’ll get to explaining that more in-depth later on. Right now we’re still in the HT era; I just wanted to talk a little bit more about my motivations for writing this piece.[3]
Part Two: Reanimation
#Keep that in mind/ I designed this rhyme/ when I was obsessed with time. [RA Track 3: “Enth E Nd]
Full disclosure: when I first heard Reanimation, I thought it had its moments. But it wasn’t something I could listen to end-to-end and love every single song. Heck, even HT wasn’t like that, since some of the songs had to grow on me. The video with the robots and aliens having a war while the disembodied robot heads of the band sing the remixed version of “Points of Authority” by Jay Gordon of Orgy was definitely awesome, but I don’t know, I had mixed feelings about the album that took years for it to resolve into me think of it as one of the LP’s early era classics that would culminate with Meteora and Live in Texas.
I have a very distinct memory of popping this cd into the car’s stereo while we were out in…Houston? Taiwan? The details are blurry now because it’s been too long. Seventeen years was a long time ago, and 2002 me was simpler, less refined, and yes, much dumber and naïve. On an emotional level, “p5hng me Aw*y” stood out, and even though it wasn’t actually a true Linkin Park song, “It’s Goin’ Down” stood out from this time period too.
Part Three: Meteora
#I’ll never fight again, and this is how it ends…I don’t know what’s worth fighting, or why I have to scream, but now I have some clarity to show you what I mean… [MA Track 9: “Breaking the Habit”]
Meteora is one of those albums I more clearly associate with Diablo II and Starcraft more than any other games. Just something about the overall darkness and broodiness of the album really fit both of those games. Also, this essay project is making me want to go back in time. Not really from a nostalgia standpoint – okay yeah I guess from a nostalgia standpoint. But it was during this era that I really started to enjoy their music videos. Believe it or not, for the longest time, not all of the songs on the album were rated five stars. I used to be stingier with that rating that I am now. It took a while for some of the songs to grow on me, but “Somewhere I Belong”, “Faint”, “Easier to Run”, “Breaking the Habit”. “Nobody’s Listening”, and “Numb” were instant standouts. I’m still not sure what happened to my original copy of this album. The last I checked, I had a burned copy, but not the real deal.
Part Four: Live in Texas
#When I look into your eyes there’s nothing there to see/nothing but my own mistakes staring back at me# [LIT Track 8: P5hng Me A*wy – Live]
Man, I remember this too. It must have come out six months or so after Meteora did, and grabbing it from Kmart was one of my best days. I think it was also the first LP album to have the dreaded Parental Advisory sticker on it, and this is probably the album I blame most for me disliking the edited versions of songs. Sometimes edits can be clever, but when they’re just bleeps or certain naughty words are blanked out, then it gets annoying. Then again, I probably wasn’t a stranger to this concept thanks to early exposure to Third Eye Blind and Limp Bizkit, as I mentioned before. Was this the first time I heard “live” performances of LP? I think it was, and it probably stoked my eagerness to see them live in concert. Alas, it was never to be.
Part Five: Collision Course
#Yeah/Thank you, thank you, thank you, you’re far too kind# [CC Track 4: “Numb / Encore”]
It’s fitting that as I pick this up on (7/21/19) it’s the day after the 2 year anniversary. I meant to have this finished by the 20th, but it just didn’t happen. Plus “Numb/Encore” was one of the first songs that started up on this go-through of the playlist. If you’re interested in listening to it, I can direct you to my Spotify profile! Numb is one of those songs that have taken on new meaning since his death, but out of all the collaborations on this mashup album, I think it’s the one that works the best sonically and thematically, especially with the juxtaposition between angst and bravado[4].
Part Six: Fort Minor & The Rising Tied
#So sick, if he’s gonna think/That the good lord would come take him/I’m shaking him, “Wake up, you son of a bitch!”# [TRT Track 14: “Red to Black”]
It was four years between the era of Meteora and Minutes to Midnight. In between that time, there was a sea change. First there was the mashup with Jay-Z, and then this came along in November 2005. I remember being more stoked for it than probably any other music that I discovered that year – and this was when Fall Out Boy, 50 Cent, and Coheed and Cambria dawned on me, among others. For those who don’t know, Fort Minor is/was Mike’s side project. He’s since done other solo stuff under his own name but between then and now he would bust out verses from The Rising Tied and incorporate them into existing songs. I always thought that Red to Black was the most LP-sounding song on the entire album and that for the longest time I thought Chester used Jonah Matranga as an alias and it wasn’t a separate person.
Part Seven: Minutes to Midnight
#In this farewell/There’s no blood, there’s no alibi/Cause I’ve drawn regret/From the truth of a thousand lies/So let mercy come and wash away# [M2M Track 6: “What I’ve Done”]
In the interest of time, these entries are probably going to get shorter and shorter. At this point, I just want to get the damn thing over with. “What I’ve Done”, the lead single was the one that struck me the most at first; I remember LP making a big deal about how they wanted to start a new sound after leaving their classic era behind. The music video was awesome, and I think LP was one of the best choices for the Transformers movies. I always thought that “What I’ve Done” would make a great wrestling song. Not necessarily as an entrance theme, but as a hype video for a PPV or a feud or something like that. EWR back in the day helped reinforce that belief though I can’t exactly remember what I associated it with – anyway, that’s neither here nor there. The day that I got this album was the same day the shooting at Virginia Tech happened. Finding out that the shooter was a mentally ill Asian dude spooked me. In today’s parlance, I was shook.[5] That’s something that has always stuck out even though it’s something I’ve not been fond of discussing, for obvious reasons. Still, for our purposes here, it is for once, actually relevant.
Part Eight: Dead by Sunrise and Out of Ashes
#Don’t want to lose my innocence/Don’t want the world second-guessing my heart/Won’t let your lies take a piece of my soul/Don’t want to take your medicine# [OOA Track 2: “Crawl Back In”]
The melodies that emerged on Minutes to Midnight, especially when it was Chester’s turn to take the mic, evolved. They turned into another platform for his music: the side-project Dead by Sunrise and their only album, so far as I know: Out of Ashes. I lump this album in with Welcome to the Masquerade by Thousand Foot Krutch and Dear Agony by Breaking Benjamin. All three emerged during my sophomore year of college[6], which was another difficult year for me. I think that is when I had the most trouble sleeping, either by choice or for other reasons. Out of everything LP-related, I think I have given this the least amount of attention. It’s probably time for that to change, ten years later.
Part Nine: A Thousand Suns
#Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds/I suppose we all thought that, one another# [ATA Track 2: “The Radiance”]
If Minutes to Midnight was an attempt to step out of the shadow of Hybrid Theory, then A Thousand Suns represented an aural breakaway. It was vastly different, integrating more spoken word and turning up their signature sound to 12. I can’t remember exactly if it was in 2009 or 2010 that I was meant to go see LP as they rolled into DC. Ultimately, I couldn’t go because of a lack of transport. It all ended up moot anyway because that was the show that got canceled because of Chester being sick. Trying to dig up that post on Facebook is probably beyond me now because it’s a day late. Maybe someday I’ll be able to find it again because those days were golden (at least my pathetic little eulogy for him that I wrote two years ago.)
Part Ten: Living Things
#Fly me up on a silver wing/Past the black where the sirens sing/Warm me up in a nova’s glow/And drop me down to the dream below# [LT Track 6: “Castle of Glass”]
So if LP had been striving to break away from the sound that made them famous, it was at this point where they were “Nah bro” and went full bore back around into an ouroboros[7] of awesome. While the vast majority of A Thousand Suns[8] had to grow on me over the intervening years, Living Things grabbed me by the throat and never let go. It followed the Hybrid Theory blueprint to a T. After all this time, “Castle of Glass” still stands out as my favorite from the album, but as is often the case, it’s hard to pick favorites.
Part Eleven: Recharged
#When I was young, they told me, they said/Make your bed, you lie in that bed/A king can only reign ‘til instead/There comes that day it’s off with his head# [RC Track 1: “A Light That Never Comes”]
The less said about this, the better. It had its moments, especially “A Light That Never Comes” which showed me the potential of Steve Aoki. But the memory that stands out most clearly about the day I got this album was getting a case of Hell or High Watermelon beer. I think since I got it from Record and Tape Traders, it was the day I found the TARDIS socks for Ally and sent them to her later that week. As you probably gathered from the cluster of footnotes, this was deemed my least favorite “official” LP album, and that ranking has held up in the last six years. It does to Living Things what Reanimation did to Hybrid Theory, but for whatever reason, I can’t bring myself to enjoy it more.
Part Twelve: The Hunting Party
#Cause you don’t know what you’ve got/it’s your battle to be fought/until it’s gone# [THP Track 7: “Until It’s Gone]
Ah, here we go. LP seems to follow patterns in the creation of their albums. Cause roughly a year after Recharged, there came The Hunting Party. After A Thousand Suns came and went, it seemed like LP was on a creative lull. But then we got LT, Recharged, and THP in three straight years. This came out in 2014, and it’s hard to believe that five years have passed already. To this day, I still think that my favorite part was all of the guest appearances on their album, especially from collaborators they hadn’t featured before then, like Daron Malakian and Tom Morello.
Part Thirteen: Welcome
#First time I did it, yeah I’ll admit it/I kinda hit it and quit it and left y’all hanging# [“Welcome”]
In all honesty, this should be a footnote for The Rising Tied. It came out 10 years later, as a way for Mike to tip a wink and a nod at all his fans that were still waiting for a full-fledged sequel. Fate had other plans, though. I can still remember helping to clean Tidewater while this song blared through my headphones. This probably became one of my most played songs of 2015.
Part Fourteen: One More Light
#Who cares if one more light goes out? Well I do# [OML Track 9: “One More Light”]
We’re almost to the finish line. I was super excited for One More Light because it broke a drought of no new music until 2017[9]. The song One More Light became more poignant after his passing. I hope it still makes him proud.
Part Fifteen: Afterword
So where do we go from here? Honestly, not even the remaining members of the band know. They’re not actively looking to replace Chester, and as a group, they’re still officially on hiatus. I didn’t even touch on any of the DVD or special edition releases that I’ve barely heard. I guess in a sense they’re honorable mentions, but without having listened to them, I can’t form any honest opinions or associations for them.[10]
[/mrhahn]
[1] It seems fitting that I mention that shirt I got as a twelve-year-old because that’s when I started picking up on writing as a hobby. It was a way to release my imagination and translate what I had in mind into a story, even if those early stories were embarrassingly bad. These footnotes will serve to flesh out those asides since they’ll more than likely distract from the main narrative I’m trying to spin here.
[2] Although Revenge remains iconic! Even to this day, I still long for an N64 and another copy.
[3] Chester struggled with MI too, even though hardly anyone knew it. It’s what ultimately got the best of him.
[4] My fascination with Genius Lyrics is really helping me to analyze and better understand the meanings of the words.
[5] It didn’t help that he bore an uncanny resemblance to me…
[6] 2009, how time flies!
[7] Not sure how to spell this dang word.
[8] I regarded it as my least favorite LP album until Recharged came out. More on that later.
[9] It wasn’t until that I built the playlist that inspired this essay that I learned that there were some other singles issued between The Hunting Party and One More Light. These tracks include “We Made It” with Busta Rhymes, which actually fell between Meteora and Minutes to Midnight; “Not Alone”, which was between A Thousand Suns and Living Things; and “Darker Than Blood” with Steve Aoki that was between The Hunting Party and One More Light.
[10] One was called “Frat Party at the Pankake Festival” and the other one was “Road to Revolution”, I think?

Measuring Me: An Ode to My Love of Music
This Bob Marley quote has always resonated with me: “One good thing about music. When it hits you, you feel no pain.”
I must confess I am not musical. I can’t carry a tune, play an instrument, or read music of any sort. I think because I am not personally musical, I deeply appreciate music. I feel music with every fiber of my being. Music is my drug of choice.
It calms me down.
It picks me up.
It comforts me.
It’s something I can lose myself in.
I really started my love affair with music during my tween years, but those were all the years of the end of my parent’s marriage and my Dad moving out. Music was a good escape. I then turned to music to help ease the heartbreak of unrequited love in college. Music to help calm the stress of grad school. Music is where I turned for comfort after my Dad died. Music kept me going when I first running and continued to motivate me through thousands of miles over the years. Music helps me focus on work in the office or make a tedious task more enjoyable. Music drives the choreography of BODYPUMP and other Les Mills workouts.
I both hate and love how accessible music is in this day and age. I’m actually listening to the best of Broadway from Amazon Music as I type this thanks to yelling for Alexa to play “showtunes” for me. I remember creating my Pandora account in August 2005 and thinking WOW! Actually at one point in my life just after grad school circa 2008 the most expensive thing I owned (aside from my car) was my iTunes library. I would argue in my early high school years the most expensive thing I owned was my cd collection. For the record I still have all my CDs - I’ve just removed almost all the jewel cases and keep them in books or on a spindle. I also have ALL my early iTunes music saved to 2 different iPods.
Thinking back I remember certain songs from my childhood like “Kokomo” by the Beach Boys or “I would do anything for love” by Meatloaf or “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen or various broadway showtunes ranging from Jesus Christ Superstar to Phantom on the Opera to Grease and Rocky Horror. My Dad and my Aunt who were my stronger early musical influences had a penchant for Andrew Loyd Webber and campy shows! I also remember one of the first CDs our family purchased as a “hits of the 50s-60s” two-disc collection - it has a sad song I loved called “Tell Laura I love her” by Ray Peterson that I particularly loved. Spoiler alert the more heartbreaking the song the more I tend to like it.
CDs gained widespread popularity when I was in junior high school which was perfect for an angsty teen. Some early teen year CDs of the late 90s I loved were Eve6, Bush, Hootie and the Blowfish, Limp Bizkit, Third Eye Blind, and Matchbox 20. I really REALLY loved “Outside” by Staind and Fred Durst, I remember listening to that track from the 1999 Family Values Tour CD on REPEAT. However I also was a total teeny bopper with an eternal flame for Hanson, but also loved all things boys bands like Nsync, BSB, 98 degrees, 5ive, O-Town, and the “fake” boy band 2gether.
I went to my first concert in 2nd grade to see teen pop sensation Debbie Gibson! I didn’t go to another concert until 9th grade when I saw Backstreet Boys. From there I went to concerts as much as my mom would let me. Once I got my license my concert going really picked up. Jones Beach Outdoor Amphitheater was THE venue as a teenager, so many amazing summer concert memories there.
My love of music took another turn in college. Right away I joined the college radio station and all of a sudden had access to all these new artists on the rise. I remember my first semester of college in Fall 2001 getting a cd and small-time merch from this up and coming singer-songwriter who had Connecticut roots. You may have heard of him, his name is John Mayer. I honestly have COUNTLESS bands that I discovered through my college radio days (shout out WQAQ - the soundtrack of Quinnipiac). There is so much music I associate with college that it’s hard to recall when I was first introduced to them - like Dashboard Confessional, Jimmy Eat World, Something Corporate, Fall Out Boy, Yellowcard, Jack Johnson, and Ben Harper to name a few. I also recall listening to quite a bit of “screamo” back then like The Used and Hawthorne Heights. The band I will forever associate with QAQ is the Spill Canvas and they are still of my favorite bands. In fact, I’m seeing them in concert later this month!
I also went to a ton of concerts in college, one band I haven’t mentioned is Incubus. They are also one of my all-time favorites. I saw Incubus a number of times in college, most memorable were two tour stops in 2002. One at the Garden in NYC and one at the Hartford Civic Center. They started the shows playing full blast electric then they changed the vibe of the stage and did a couple of acoustic songs before switching back to full electric. The crazy thing is that so many of their songs work just all acoustic as they do full blast.
Going to concerts was also a great way to discover music through opening acts. I’ve always been a person to get to a show to see the opening act. The all-time best chain of introduction to music was when I went to my first John Mayer show in November 2002. It was the Sunday after Thanksgiving and we all arrived back to college that afternoon with the concert that night. The drive up we listened to John Mayer the whole ride. The venue, the Oakdale Theater in Wallingford CT was small (I just looked it up the capacity was 4,800) and so intimate. Everyone there were passionate John Mayer fans, the opening act had their work cut out for them. Enter: Maroon 5 as the opening act. They melted my face off. They had the most unbelievable energy and hot damn could they shred on guitar. John Mayer even came out before his set to shred with them on one song. My best memory of that set was when Adam Levine covered Nine In Nails “Closer.” Holy hell, still one of the best performances I’ve seen. Ever. Just to be clear the John Mayer show was also amazing, the best one of his I’ve ever gone too because of how small it was I think. However, I walk away from a stellar John Mayer show still buzzing from Maroon 5. I could write a whole blog post of my Maroon 5 fandom in their early days (like how I was part of their “street team” and was invited by their management to go to their first Total Request Live performance because they wanted fans who could sing along to every word in the audience). Anyway back to the chain of amazing artist introduction. October 2003 I was going to NYC for the night to see Maroon 5 and low and behold their opening act was a newcomer named Gavin DeGraw who stole the show, his cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get in On” is yet another top concert memory. I should also note 30 Seconds to Mars opened for Incubus when I saw them in Hartford in 2002.
Another note from the early 2000s history books, during my college years Kazaa and Limewire were at their height. Plus being on a college ethernet that was not yet “wireless” we were able to log into a campus-wide music portal some smart computer programming major kid set up where you essentially made you music public for others to copy and you were able to search and copy other people’s music. SO MUCH MUSIC. I was particularly obsessed with ripped live versions of songs.
Looking back at the top 10 performances/shows I’ve seen - not including festivals - because that could be its own category. If there is a particularly noteworthy song I’ll note it.
Incubus - 11am acoustic (2002 - Hartford Civic Center)
John Mayer (2002 - Oakdale Theatre)
Maroon 5 - Closer (2002 - Oakdale Theatre)
Third Eye Blind - (2003 - SPB Concert at Quinnipiac - Josh Kelley opened and was awesome)
Gavin DeGraw - Let’s Get it On (2003/2004 - NYC and Hartford - both were amazing)
Spill Canvas - All Hail The Heartbreaker (2004 - The Attic, Hamden CT)
Maroon 5 (2004/2005 at two tiny Long Island venues)
David Cook - Permanent (Night for Hope 2012 - State Theatre, Falls Church VA)
Jimmy Eat World - A Praise Chorus (2017 - Bristow VA)
Hanson - (2017 - The Fillmore - Silver Spring - also 2018 - Wolf Trap they played Yearbook for the first time ever on tour during their String Theory shows)
Top 10 influential albums by a single artist/band listed chronologically - not including any soundtracks, showtunes, or festival albums which each could be its own categories. You may notice there are some artists where I can’t choose one either due to both being amazing or discovering them around the same time and listening to them digitally in a shuffled mix.
Hanson - Middle of Nowhere (1997)
Third Eye Blind - Third Eye Blind (1997 self-titled debut)
Eve 6 - Eve 6 (1998 self-titled debut)
Incubus - Make Yourself (1999)/Morning View (2001)
John Mayer - Room for Squares (2001)/Any Given Thursday (2003)
Dashboard Confessional - The Swiss Army Romance (2000)/The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most (2001)
Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane (2002)
Gavin DeGraw - Chariot (2003) / Chariot: Stripped (2004)
Spill Canvas - Sunsets and Car Crashes (2004)/One Fell Swoop (2005)
David Cook - Analog Heart (2006)
Honorable mention all of David Cook’s albums from his old band Axium

Hii Shelly! Been reading your blog and it's extremely informative, so thank you for that! Anyways, i was really wondering what are your favourite songs from MFS! Thank you!
Hi there!!! 😁✌️
Hmm ….. that’s an interesting question 🤔. OK, my list changes with times I must say. There was a time when I used to listen to the album 虚言NEUROSE everyday during my daily commute to work as I liked ZERO Gravity and ROOM very much. I used to like What’s My Name? from BONEDS split album a lot too. Apart from the 1st song in the following list which is a crucial song to me, the rest are songs that I’ve noticed I tend to repeat every time I listen to them nowadays.
WARNING: I will be mentioning Taka and OOR a lot here. Read on to understand why.
1. 最終回STORY [Saishuukai STORY]
youtube
This is the most important MFS song for me because THIS is the song through which they stole my heart at the height of my “love affair” with OOR back in 2013. The one that turned me into an MFS fan. Don’t get me wrong, I still am an OOR fan. It’s just that I was also looking for something else I wasn’t getting from them. A certain kind of aggressiveness. Not necessarily had to be appealing to the commercial mass market. Something more metal yet still melodic and accessible. I was in love with the song March of Mephisto by Kamelot at the time and I wanted something that leaned more towards that. Then, I heard 最終回STORY. BAM! I found what I was looking for 😍! Different from OOR. Played it on repeat that night and it became the most played song on my phone quickly. I love everything about it and the MV, which somewhat hides the band members’ faces, is just right for it. It makes us focus on the amazing music and not their pretty faces.
* Though I feel Hiro somewhat ruined it when he swang his mic at one point in the MV (one short second of a movement that his Onii-chan is famous for is enough to tarnish Hiro’s image for life 😖), but overall especially the angles that the video was shot, more than makes up for that “oops …” moment 😊.
2. 終焉レクイエム [Shuuen Requiem]
I do love string sections anywhere and the orchestral arrangement intensifies the song’s melancholic melody. Furthermore, I like how musically, this one leans more towards the work of older rock artists from HYDE’s generation than the younger OOR kind of crowds. It reminds me a lot of my favourite song Gekoukka by Janne da Arc from the anime Dr. Black Jack.
While I understand Hiro’s intention with BLACK RAIL, this one has a lot more depth and is far more revealing of his feelings about being cyber-bullied by some of his brother’s fans. I talked a lot more about it here.
3. 君のいない夜を越えて [Kimi no Inai Yoru o Koete]
Part of Sho’s musical works for Ochanomizu Rock. Musically, it’s safe and sweet. While it wasn’t love at first listen to me but thanks to the drama series, I got drawn more and more towards it. Upon finding out that Hiro cleverly inserted a lyric line that clearly mentions “my first story” which also seems to answer why he and big bro Taka appear detached in public, the song then totally etched itself on my heart. I wrote what I thought about that “hidden” message here. Despite the crazy accusations about him hating Taka, Hiro once again wants us to decipher all the clues he left here and there indicating how he carries his big brother in his heart very much ❤️.
4. FAKE
Surprised to see this one? This one is in a league of its own to me. I wrote my thoughts on it back in 2015 here. OK, this one represents the time when I was adjusting to the fact that Hiro was no longer a boy when I first saw the trailer. How he had blossomed into a man. I remember that day very well. My hands felt cold and my heartbeat was racing, telling myself, “He’s not a baby anymore. Accept it,” 😮.
Just look at how he flirted with the viewers through the camera lens 😍.
He ended it with alternate wink of one eye! Oh my kokoro ❤️❤️❤️
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ee27472f277225ea2f744a6cc099490a/tumblr_inline_pfrx4o49YP1tojp89_540.jpg)
The song also has a different and sexier groove that sets itself apart from other MFS songs. Listen to those crunchy rhythm guitars 😙!! My favourite part is when they put Hiro’s voice through that “groveling” vocal effect about 1 min into the song. Come on, how can I not find that sexy 😉? You don’t often get to hear Hiro sounding masculine, thanks to his high-pitched natural voice. So, this is where the right voice effect works very well to enhance the man side of him. I also love how schizophrenic the song arrangement is. How it twists to different turns one after another. Weird but good weird 😉. Whether you like the song or not, you have to admit that this song is only one of its kind in their repertoire as they have never made another song that sounds like FAKE again.
* Some fans compared the chorus to OOR’s Never Let It Go but still the overall feels of both songs are worlds apart. The former is an arena rock anthem with a soaring chorus. The latter is just weird but a deliciously sexy groovy kind of weird.
youtube
5. The Puzzle
The song that didn’t impress me AT ALL during the trailer. Then they released the video on STORYTELLER in full. Wow! Suddenly I knew how to appreciate it. You can feel the raw feelings and vulnerability they exuded with that video. The video was recorded at their 1st public performance after the lineup change. It was a period of MAJOR adjustment especially for the 3 youngest members Hiro, Teru and Kid’z. Hiro trying to hold back his tears mid-song, Teru still playing under Sho’s shadow and Kid’z (who was still worrying about fans’acceptance) doing his best to prove his worth by elevating the song through his own style of drumming. I almost feel like Kid’z was making his drum beats “sing” with Hiro at certain parts.
* For those just joining STORYTELLER Club, you can watch The Puzzle MV only after being a member for 90 days. Be patient, OK? It’s worth waiting to see Hiro’s raw pain when he sang the line “boku dake / only me”.
6. BOOM
I love heavy sounding bass lines which this song has in abundance. TQ Nob for your awesome work! What a pity it was not made into an MV. To me, this song is a missed opportunity for MFS to show the world especially the skeptics that they really do play a different kind of music from big brother band OOR. Where the big bro is more Good Charlotte & Yellowcard, this one has Limp Bizkit running through its veins. Different leagues. Fred Durst would be proud 😉
7. 悪戯フィクション [Itazura FICTION]
It’s dark and lyrically intense! I wrote about what I think the lyrics are about here, here and here. Also, why I think it inspired the lyrics to LET IT DIE here. Then how to not fall head over heel over that drumming ❤️? Turned out it was the most challenging arrangement to Kid’z from that album and the one he worked the hardest on to get it right. Hmm …. does that mean I can now trust my ears to detect quality work? Hehe 😁. That sounds like bragging but, from the start, the drumming had been the part that drew me to this song 😊. A song meant to be performed in large halls/arenas.
8. 不可逆リプレース [Fukagyaku REPLACE] acoustic version
The reason? My mind likes to imagine Taka singing with Hiro on this version. Somehow I think the gentler music arrangement fits to bring the two brothers’ voices together onstage. Imagine them singing the lines “… I will follow you … follow you ….“ and “keep you close to me …. close to me ….” to each other. But, I want to see them both together onstage NOT because I think it would be an explosive collaboration. Instead, I want to see the “tears fest” that would happen on that stage. My mind also likes to make a bet who from each band would cry first watching them. My bet ….. from MFS, it’s a toss between Nob and Teru. Then from OOR, it’s Ryota. Am I sadistic or what 😮? Wanting a song to be performed just to see people cry 😄?
9. REVIVER
I love how somewhat 80′s rock and old school this song is. I talked about that in this post. Even the MV’s aspect ratio is old school! Teruki shines here 😊. Proudly wearing an Ozzy Osbourne T-shirt. Basically declaring where his musical influences came from. OK. I don’t need to repeat REVIVER because they actually made TWO equally excellent versions of it and now they added the orchestral version too. Aah …. MFS loves me 😍!
Of course, like the rest of you, I love ALONE, LET IT DIE, Missing You etc. Special mention for AWAKE which I call “the song Hiro has never screwed up Live”. An older song Warning always makes me happy too. Another special mention is If I Am which everyone else seems to find lame but I, on the other hand, think that it has an epic acoustic potential LOL. Did you all see how dead and quiet the crowd was when they performed this song in the ITSUWARI NEUROSE Tour Final DVD 😂? Yeah, I think the guys need to revive the song with a different arrangement.
Sorry this got too long 😮

My Dream Band
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e4c0cbc0528eb3c75c0ed32010f9a826/tumblr_inline_p97bupWi5a1u8m2y5_540.jpg)
A question I ask almost all my music friends: if you could make a band with anyone dead or alive, who would be in it, and what would they play?
There aren’t many other questions more suitable to fanboy over. So many options, so many people, so many genres. And yet, most people would put Hendrix as their lead guitarist (they aren’t wrong for the most part). In this post, I’ll explain my person dream band, and then a couple other band combinations sure to make any music patron giddy with joy.
Without further ado, and in no particular order, here is my dream band.
Kirstin Maldonado - Pentatonix (Lead/Backup Singer)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/793ef2e64d5466bdd2f071b20df0524f/tumblr_inline_p97c46brDV1u8m2y5_540.jpg)
I was always a fan of Penatonix even before I heard Kirstin sing solo. The complex harmonies, the superior arrangements an innovation, not to mention how they never seem to sing out of key. While watching PTX’s vlog, there was a part where Kirstin sang a solo performance, my ears were blessed, and my eyes were opened. And then there was her performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” reasserted my love and admiration for her as a singer.
Obviously, as a singer for Pentatonix, she’s got harmonies like no one’s business. She has a great range, never goes off key, can sight-read, and can improvise. However, my favorite part of Kirstin (other than her dog) is her ability to change the tone of her voice. Obviously, it would sound weird to sing harmonies with a heavy vibrato, or sing lead straight flat. Kirstin has the ability to change her vibrato and pitch to crush any arrangement I’d give her, whether singing lead or in the back. I’d do anything for a chance to work with her, and very deserving of this job in my dream band.
Hayley Williams - Paramore (Lead Vocals)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/2921c2518f5ede86d172686474f22222/tumblr_inline_p97envYrlv1u8m2y5_500.jpg)
Nobody is arguing Paramore’s staying power and ability to write a damn catchy song, but there’s a reason why Hayley is the first person on everyone’s minds when they think “female vocalist”. Anyone whose heard her have a hard time forgetting her. She has one of the most iconic voices in recent memory, and a fantastic range. The biggest reason why I want her in my band is her driving and rough around the edges voice. It would compliment Kirstin’s voice perfectly and make for some seriously sweet harmonies.
Dominic Howard - Muse (Drums/Percussion)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/49bf80b497ecd592163e3101bb45b00e/tumblr_inline_p97ctptlAy1u8m2y5_500.jpg)
Muse is already one of my all-time favorite bands (excusing their latest few efforts). I love their chord progressions, the way they add classical flavor into rock, all three members of the band are amazing musicians (every time Matt plays piano, I get super jealous). I choose Dom to wield the sticks in my dream band because he has a perfect combination of holding down the beat and adding flair, behaving himself and keeping things interesting. He never compromises the feel of the song, but whenever the spotlight falls on him, he shows the world he can play.
Mike Dirnt - Green Day (Bass)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/abf1e8c06243b5d9f7161311f4802417/tumblr_inline_p97df42d831u8m2y5_500.jpg)
As some of you know who actually follow this blog, I put out an opinion piece on why Green Day is the best punk band ever. Mike Dirnt is one of the reasons why. First off, he has tons of stamina. Anyone who can play “Platypus (I Hate You)” live with all of Billie Joe’s extended pauses without stopping or breaking a sweat is god-tier in my book. Second, like Dom, always knows how to balance flair and foundation. I consider Dookie one of the best bass albums of all time. The licks and riffs Dirnt plays are bar none to any punk bassist dead or alive. Finally, he knows how to stay in the pocket. No beat he hits is off. He makes Green Day on a James Brown level of band symmetry. He’ll do the same for my dream band.
Neil Giraldo - Pat Benatar (Lead Guitar)
While I’m not the biggest fan of Pat Benatar, I am well aware of her impact on music and the laundry load of hits she has under her leather spiked belt. One of the reasons for her success? Neil Giraldo. Everything riff or solo this man touches turns to gold. He doesn’t just shred, he shreds tastefully. He doesn’t just go in guns a-blazing and hit every blues scale note on the fret board. Giraldo was the rock element Pat as looking for in her music, and he would make the perfect soloist for my dream band. He’s got the riffs, he’s tasteful, and he’s got major chops.
The Famous Flames - James Brown (Brass Section)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/21a6f45ff1d4b3fbcb819e3df6fae7d6/tumblr_inline_p97e59b3Wu1u8m2y5_540.jpg)
Speaking of James Brown level of synergy. There is no single backing band tighter then The Famous Flames. You know how I know that? James Brown would frequently test them live by stopping and starting songs at will, and constantly change the song live to test if the band was paying attention. Knowing that, and seeing how the band played like they were the same person, it should come as no surprise why they make the band. Like, at all. They can learn any work of music, and would never fail to learn it by the day of the show. They’d be ready for anything
Rick Wakeman - Yes (Keyboards/Organ)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/bcae624f8d1c6cf96d3e6f98ba1c16fe/tumblr_inline_p97egkDl4p1u8m2y5_500.jpg)
I don’t really listen to Yes. But if you listen to “Roundabout” and don’t think that man is the best keyboard player of his era, I have nothing to say to you.
And there we have it! My dream band. For genre, they would make pop rock with flairs of ska and electro.
BONUS BANDS
The Ultimate Emo Band:
Brendan Urie - Panic! At the Disco (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar)
Ray Toro - My Chemical Romance (Lead Guitar)
Pete Wentz - Fall Out Boy (Bass)
Josh Dun - twenty one pilots (Drums)
They would play all their respective hits. Millions would cry, millions would scream. They’d all make more money than they ever knew what to do with, or knew existed.
The Ultimate Jam Band
Jimi Hendrix (Guitar)
Flea - Red Hot Chili Peppers (Bass)
Jon Bonham - Led Zeppelin (Drums)
Every attempt to praise their music would still make them under hyped. Their first album is a combination of odd time signatures, funk, and psychedelic blues. Rock experts would never go outside again.
And finally...
The Nightmare Band (The Worst Band Ever)
Fred Durst - Limp Bizkit (Lead Guitar)
Yoko Ono - Plastic Ono Band (Lead Vocals/Drums)
Tom Delonge - blink-182 (Keyboard)
Sid Vicious - The Sex Pistols (bass)
This band would be tasked with playing "Through the Fire and Flames” by Dragonforce. They would get very limited rehearsal time. Rock experts would never go outside again, but for a different reason.
