Okay so I got this message when I woke up this morning and decided to delete the post until I got around to checking out the OP's blog. Nothing about their blog has anything to do with antisemitic movements or even hints at potential content like that.

It's specifically referring to literature and academia (don't love that it's tagged with harry potter but I know that fandom is still tied up to those circles)

I think we have to be careful about policing speech and "calling out" things that may not actually be there. I get that the point of a dog whistle is that no one is supposed to understand what it means except the Nazis. But these people really aren't as slick as they think they are with this sort of thing.

A good example is the "okay" sign that got co-opted as a white power dog whistle. It's been used pretty obviously by white supremists who think they're being really clever about it but like... they're using it in the middle of a "white power" rally while waving Nazi flags. It's not exactly subtle.

Whereas we also used that sign in scuba diving to signal "okay", with a thumbs up being "ascend" (which confused the hell out of me as chronic "thumb up-er" when I was learning). I'm pretty sure when we're signaling "okay" 20m under the ocean we're not secretly signally "white power". Context is important.

This post and everyone reblogging it is not talking about any sort of conspiracy theory - just how being in a fandom and being excited about something makes you notice patterns and parallels. It's also kind of an "autism meme" too.

But idk... I know when people reach out to "let me know" about something, it's in good faith but it's... frustrating when the context is pretty obviously not that. Being paranoid about dog whistles is kind of the whole point of them.

White supremists/antisemites ect. like having power over others by making them question reality and gaslighting them. But again, they're usually about as subtle as a brick wall about this sort of thing. Not saying they can't be quiet about it sometimes but ... it usually isn't hard to spot. Especially on personal blogs.

Maybe I'm just tired that leftist spaces continue to try to tone police and "call out" their own in-groups *just in case* someone might be a secret Nazi while the real actual Nazis and Christian Nationalists are quite literally taking over the American government (which affects the entire world, especially countries where I live like Australia that are allies with the US and extremely influenced by their politics).

And actual Nazis aren't even using dog whistles any more, they're marching in the streets loud and proud because they feel empowered enough to do so...

So idk... maybe lets focus on that and work on mobilising and organising against what is going to be a really rough 4 years.... Though I wouldn't even be surprised if it goes beyond that, looking at past history and what happens when fascism takes power...

A: I mostly use procreate! I also use an app called Pixilart sometimes, and I use remove.bg to make PNGs.

A: Yes! In fact, I actually prefer if people do the recoloring themselves since it prevents my inbox from being clogged with requests for specific hex code recolors all the time. Just remember to still credit me for the original work!

Q: “Can I use your dividers outside of Tumblr?”

A: Yes! Once again, just remember to properly credit me if you do.

Q: “How do I know when requests are opened or closed?”

So I really enjoy your story 'No Questions asked'. But it kinda feels like theres a lot of unneeded.. filler(?)

I just kinda realised that it‘s been 90,000 words and we‘ve barely reached the point that the summary describes. And Danny hasn‘t really had a 'proper' interaction with the Batfam yet?

That‘s kinda like if the entire first Harry Potter novel, which 76,000 words (screw J.K.Rowling- just needed a well known book as comparison) was just the prologue where Hagrid only shows up at the very end to take Harry to Hogwarts.

Again- I really do like the story! It just seems to drag a bit at certain points, making it a bit tedious at times?

I‘m so sorry if this reads like hate. I probably should have checked if you even want/accept criticism in the first place, but I genuinely hope this doesn’t make you feel like you’re being attacked.

No worries for the ask! Unless someone's being outright disrespectful, I totally don't mind feedback/criticism.

So short answer to your question is, yeah you're not wrong, it's long, and we're just getting to the "beginning" so to say. It did come out longer than I expected but this is mostly just my writing style.

It's also purposeful. It's meant to be a slow burn, but it is also Danny-centric, focusing a lot on how he handles his circumstances, his trauma, his responsibilities etc. And that's explicitly stated in the tags.

For me, the reasoning is that there's legit hundreds of "Danny shows up in Gotham on the run" fics. Very common premise for DPxDC. I'm a fan of many works that use that exact premise, with details being tweaked on the how's and why's. And I wanted to explore that idea in my own way. The Tumblr prompt that its based on was basically my inspiration, but I wanted to flesh out the story.

A lot of times in these plots, Danny arrives and meets the batfam within the first chapter, sometimes less than a hundred words. Just boom he's there. For me it always felt a little rushed/unrealistic, but I also don't fault writers who just want to get to the "juicy bits" and get the premise out of the way. A quick establishment so to say. But for me, a big part of writing a convincing, feeling heavy story is know the context. And not just SAYING "Danny got dissected and it was traumatic" but SHOWING that. It doesn't showcase his character very much. All the chapters I've included focus on his interactions with his sister, his best friends, clockwork (a mentor and elder), other ghosts, ones he's friends with and also total strangers, ppl who don't know him at all like ivy. And they're all there for a reason, which is to show how Danny handles different situations. How does he treat ppl in different positions. How does he see himself?

A few ppl have picked up on this in the comments throughout the fic, which is that Danny is very powerful, very competent, and still struggling. I don't want to just say that, I want to show it. Because to me it's adds some oomph to the story, and ya I also just like extensive hurt/comfort stuff.

So this fic is basically an exploration of Danny's character as much as it is a slow burn found family. I have a freakishly long list of chapters dedicated to batfam + Danny chapters. So it'll get there. But at my pace.

When I was deciding where to start the fic, I literally went "based on this prompt, where would this whole thing start? What led to this?" And went from there.

So ya it is long. We'll probs hit 100k the next chapter. And I won't lie I have no idea how long the total fic will be, rn I'm just having fun with it. I don't really pay attention to word count. Ya HP was 76k but I also think, objectively, it could've been better written. And my target audience isn't 10yr olds or whatever child demographic.

I'm also cramming a lot of different DPxDC tropes into it, and trying to add my own twist to those. Im approaching this entire fic like a creative challenge. Also I enjoy descriptive writing so haha. Professional yapper

Hey can we stop acting like "I like Harry Potter" is a terf dogwhistle? As if Harry Potter isn't one of the biggest fandoms literally ever with a huge number of LGBTQ+ (notice how I did not say LGB) fans? Like some of my favorite HP content creators are trans. They're obviously not terfs.

"But JK Rowling—" yeah. I know. This is tumblr. Tumblr has been very "death of the author" since day 1. It's incredibly easy to like something while hating the original creator, or vehemently disagreeing with their opinions.

Especially when i see this crap from fandoms like Danny Phantom? Nobody likes Butch Hartman. Liking Danny Phantom isn't a fundie Christian anti-terf dogwhistle, so why is HP?

"JKR is still making money—" that's what billionaires do. Once you get that much money it's incredibly easy to keep getting more money, regardless of how much merch people are buying. And not all HP fans are aware of JKR's political stance, especially the casual ones. I really doubt most of them would agree with her if they knew.

Also? It's incredibly easy to like something without giving money to the creator?? "But making fan content is giving her free advertising" again. Why have I only heard this for HP and not for any other fandom with a terrible creator? Why is it only free advertising if its HP and not like, Homestuck? Almost every person on Earth with an internet connection (and even some without) know at least a little bit about Harry Potter. I guarantee you that a huge population of HP fans have not actually bought or read the books, or even all the movies. HP fanfiction and fandom is so incredibly different from the original content that anyone who decided to pirate the books anyway would be somewhat disappointed lol.

"There are other books—" yeah. We know. Believe it or not, people can like multiple things at once. I'm sorry you're tired of hearing about Harry Potter. Try blocking the tags for it instead of calling it's fans terfs. It's generally a much better thing to do than making people feel like they can't openly enjoy the things they like without getting attacked for something that they don't actually think or believe.

I get that you want to keep terfs from having a platform. I get that you want to keep this kind of terrible ideology from becoming more normalized. There are better ways to do it, such as: looking through someone's #feminism or #lgbt tags and looking for actual terf ideas and content.

Same thing with antisemetism btw. One of my friends who talks about HP fics the most is literally trans and Jewish. They hate JKR. It's possible, and even normal, I promise.

Tl;dr - liking Harry Potter is not a terf dogwhistle, it's a normal trait for people who grew up any time from the 90s to now. Stop attacking people for no good reason.

how are you my dear? things have been kind of up and down from me, which is why i haven't been so active. that makes me feel really sad, not because i necessarily feel obligated to write, but because i just want to!!! idk mental things and blocks have been all over the place. and i have so much fun thinking about ideas and such but sometimes i get in my head about writing about them or other stuff comes up.

my best friend's mom passed away two weeks ago, which kind of has turned things upside down. we were really close - her mom and mine are best friends, we all went on a cruise to mexico together (? idk its kind of like a fever dream but it makes me laugh now) and she was just someone i felt really really close to. i am so sad she's gone and i loved her so much.

school has started up and this actually happened during my first week of school so it kind of changed the tone. i'm a senior now but weirdly enough things feel so different. one of my best friends actually graduated and school feels different without her and i guess there's been internal stuff happening where my job and my research lab and everything just feels like it's drastically changed dynamic wise and it makes me wish it was still last year and i wasn't so old and i wasn't leaving.

i have so many ideas but don't know which ones to write! and i think about them so hard that i can't do them justice as one shots but i just don't know if anyone would read it if it was longer or if idk i would drop it after i felt like it wasn't good or anything. i hope to write something soon just for my own joy. (see: list of ideas below that I could write like 200k words of if I wanted to)

good old satoru gojo and y/n getting strapped with kids after an untimely passing. BUT they used to date. oh the sweet angst of living together but being responsible for two kids but getting close but one of you has a partner that kind of sucks and it kind of feels like you're a family but you can't really admit that you want to get back together bc. u know. family and all that and a lot at stake and obv angst of almost dying bc it's me and I would have to do that just for fun

satoru gojo (again? shocking I barely ever think or write for this man) but its like kind of like a royalty clan au? like arranged marriage but she literally don't gaf about gojo and sneaks around with a secret lover (that he knows about. and knows that is a snake) and then when things go wrong he's kind of like well I told you so but then they get close and kind of besties and she tells a maid or something that like omfg he doesn't even care about me like that he just feels bad and he overhears SO he has to obviously romance her. obviusly he has to like go to war or a fight or something where he almost dies becuase you know angst of almost dying its me and I would have to do that

I still think about dream girl everyday.

I also think about canary mate all the time too. I almost actually wrote some today but had to write a ghostwrite a deferral letter for my friend to delay her acceptance since her mom passed away

1. how many works do you have on AO3?

2. what’s your total AO3 word count?

ugh i had to go into my stats to find this number (hate looking at stats) but to my surprise that number is a whopping 816,828! (if added to my ff.net word count that figure grows to 1,062,375 🤯)

3. what fandoms do you write for?

stony exclusively, though i opened up to the idea of writing for steve and/or tony paired with any mcu villain for marvel trumps hate, and now i'm writing a steve/loki (with steve/tony as endgame) fic that's more fun than i would've anticipated! (x) still wouldn't call myself a "multishipper," though -- more of a serial shipping monogamist ;)

4. do you respond to comments? why or why not?

i do! sometimes i'm a bit slow to respond for various reasons (e.g. when people angels comment on my WIPs i like to reply when/right before a new chapter drops), and on a few occasions i've belatedly encountered comments that i forgot to reply to (😱) that i'll immediately rectify, but i very much want to encourage people to keep leaving them. a single comment—even short/sweet ones!—can be like rocket fuel to my creative drive -- and as someone who finds myself running on empty and trying to get by solely on fumes from time to time, getting that boost in my inbox is truly priceless.

5. have you ever had a fic stolen?

7. what’s your all-time favorite ship?

currently steve/tony. once upon a time it was spock/kirk, and the flame burned so brightly that it troubles me to wonder how it ever managed to go out. i collected vintage zines. i made insanely thoughtful fanmixes (one of which i recorded onto cassette tapes one-at-a-time by hand through a painstaking process and distributed to a few like-minded folks, with hand-drawn cover art and liner notes!). i read AMAZING fic that changed my brain and yet i never wrote a single thing! i made a secret spacehusbands clubhouse underneath a pool table during one long and otherwise unhappy summer. i even made spirk-themed patches and pins that sold quite well on etsy, and turned one of my large back pieces into the central design of a fully decked-out jacket (which was made specifically to wear while loitering around disneyland while baked). here's some photographic evidence of all of the above:

8. what are your writing strengths?

smut-crafting is the obvious answer, but i flatter myself to think that i also manage to tap into a particular kind of haunted beauty that hovers about, casting its ethereal moon-shadow over all the most poignant relationships; something i've been obsessed with in life, that i'm compelled to pursue further in writing.

9. what are your writing weaknesses?

keeping it short. my punctuation can get pretty erratic sometimes. also, this might be a cop-out of an answer since it can be interpreted as a 'strength' but it really can throw me for a loop: i tend to let the characters tell the story 'they' want to tell rather than keeping a tight hold on the reins and sticking to my own agenda -- this can lead me off my intended course, for better or worse! as a storyteller i'm a bit of a pushover—always open to sudden inspiration wherever it might issue from—and steve and tony are such *strong* personalities that this openness can be a problem when i 'channel' them.

10. first fandom you wrote for?

harry potter. i was a bit of a snapewife for awhile there (don't judge). ff.net has been having some server issues so i recently logged back on to download my 245k unfinished epic from 2012, and found over a thousand people had left comments! some people were calling it a "masterpiece" and/or "the best fic [they] ever read [for that pairing]" which made me doubtful, so i skimmed over some of the story expecting it to be cringey but uhhh... it actually holds up? i mean, 2011/12 was quite a time for me: i was simultaneously finishing my thesis on "fandom, fanaticism, and religious fervor" and can recall having full-on religious experiences of my own while writing that [truly 'inspired'] fic, so i guess i was onto something after all!

Since I would like to read at least something this year, I shall endeavor to put together a list (this is out of my head, so no particular order):

Eight Cousins, and its sequel, Rose in Bloom - I loved Alcott's books as a kid. This one stands out in my mind, more so than Alcott's most well known book: Little Women. I need to go back and see just how much Alcott's stories and writing, has affected me as a storyteller and writer.

Harry Potter - No matter what one might say about JKR, you have to admit she made readers out of many kids with her exceptional world building. I have most of the books (save for the last one) and it might be time for a reread.

Beautiful Chaos by Gary Russell - While not my favorite Doctor Who novel, that goes to Fear of the Dark by Trevor Baxendale, Beautiful Chaos is a little bit lighter (actually no, a lot lighter, Fear of the Dark is as close to horror I will ever get) and a lot more fun than my favorite. With the Tenth Doctor and the ever hilarious Donna, it is a bit more of a madcap fun adventure that DW is known for, while still having a bittersweet edge to it. I hardly remember this one, and own it, so an easy choice to pick up.

Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder - Another very beloved series of stories of mine growing up. I read mostly older stories, not much modern, which is probably why I focus on being a storyteller. Again I have all the books, so it is easy to pick up and read them.

Walking on Water by Madeleine L'Engle - The only non-fiction book on this list, but it is about writing. If one doesn't know, L'Engle wrote many fantasy books, with A Wrinkle in Time, being the most notable. I've read Walking On Water before, a book about being creative and someone of the Christian faith, and loved it. If you fit under that category, I highly recommend it, even if you aren't a writer in particular.

Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance Novelization - The only book on this list I haven't read, though of course I already know the story. I've been wanting to read this one, and finally found it. While not "canon" I enjoyed the other novelization of the series I did get the chance to read, so hopefully I'll enjoy this one as well.

Yes, though sometimes very late. I appreciate the comments I get so I want to show that!

In her dreams (holby City, berena) which when I wrote it was canon compliant with bernie being dead and then serena died at the end of the fic.

I don't like angst and will almost always write it with a happy ending if I do have to write it.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Most of my other fics to be honest. The guy (or girl) gets the guy (or girl) and they live happily ever after.

8. Do you get hate on fic?

Only once and it was about an actor, not the fic.

9. Do you write smut?

When the mood takes me 😅

I've written, um, maybe 3 crossovers? None of them are particularly crazy.

Someone once asked to translate a thasmin one. I don't know if they ever did though.

Happy to say that all my published fic is complete. At the moment, I'd just like to be in the mood to write anything at all really.

I'm pretty good at keeping people in character.

Description. Urgh. Just imagine something in your head and pretend I described it please.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I don't think it works. If you're fluent and can write something that's not a mess, your audience might not be fluent to understand it. And if you're not then just... no. Write it in whatever language your fic is in and say its that other language.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter. Didn't publish it as I didn't even realise fanfic was a thing back then.

20. Favourite fic you've written?

Might be recency bias, but Home Front (acgas, Siegfried x audrey). I reread it recently and loved it. It has a good plot, the characters are solid, the OCs are good, the setting is good, the animals are lovely.

A bit experimental just for the sake of writing I'm trying to get more into writing more than just one like scene per fic so, i kind of just wrote whatever i wanted in these scenes and then went hm anyway next and It worked pretty well

i did not go into this with much of a plan at all it was originally going to just be a Colin being a cute little stalker but from Percy's pov where Colin's got a crush and Percy is just enjoying someone actually caring about what he has to say. but then it just became another soulmate au but! it is different! since it's not a world were having soulmates like changes the whole world since its not something everyone just knows and doesn't affect their day-to-day life

Sweet Dreams Are Made of This DS9, Quodo cuddling, Odo is a blanket. Of all my fics this is the one I’m most perplexed by its kudo count. Are people that hungry for hurt/comfort pre-slash? Was it on a rec list of a popular blogger I’m unaware of? I don’t know, like it’s very nice it's good fic, but not one I think about often.

What Is This Feeling, So Sudden and New? DS9, Quodo, Odo adjusts to being solid, drinks all sorts of drinks, and has a sexual awakening. Now this is the fic I’m most proud of. That makes sense. Sexual tension! Plot! Emotional beats paced just right! (imo)

like to the lark at break of day arising OFMD, Stede/Ed’s first time, silly but emotional sex. This one I posted just at the right time in the fandom, and I had a lot of fun with it. Dumb banter, Stede gets carried away, Ed nuts and cries, I’m hitting all my favorite tropes lol.

Made Me Feel (Shiny and New) DS9, the sweetest hard Quodo, slow banging D/s double bluff. I never question a smut fic doing well. I assume you’re in it for the same reason I wrote it lmao.

I always try to!!! The exception being if I’m not paying attention to fandom at all at the time, I go through phases like anything.

As a reader, I love to comment for the author interaction -- especially because sometimes you mention something you liked and it unlocks a whole interesting train of thought from the author about the behind the scenes insights, like a bonus meta. I’m obsessed by this pairing, you are too, please tell me everything hell yeah.

Do you write crossovers? 

I’ve written one Glee/TNG and one Glee/Harry Potter. Not generally though.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? 

Yes. Oh idk whatever I think is hot that the character also might be into. It has to be goofy, somewhat ridiculous, and definitely too many feelings are involved...

I think someone asked me for permission once or twice, but I don’t remember if I saw the final result.

No, gosh that’d really have to be the right person because it sounds maddening as a process. The potential to be more fun?? But potentially more frustrating.

Oh you know. Somehow I started writing for rubber head aliens and never looked back.

What's a WIP that you want to finish but probably never will? 

I’m bad at starting things (there are tons of fic prompts I squirrel away for a rainy day), but compulsive about finishing them. If I have more than a couple hundred words written, by jove I’ll figure out a way to get to something I can call a final product that I share, even if it's several years later. 

Even when I’ve posted WIPs, almost the entire fic was written, I just needed to iron out details in the second part and only published the first part to stop myself from messing with it. Actually, exception that proves the rule (?) Coin-Operated Boy is my first true WIP, where I have a long list of ideas brainstormed, but I’m writing a bit by the seat of my pants rather than having all the plot points mapped out already. We’ll see how that goes, always fun to try something new!!

I’m also still committed to finishing the fic I started where Quark and Odo meet in prison and escape together based on this one comic about Rocket/Groot I read. I have like 7k written but there’s a looooot of rough sketchy bits and both details and broad strokes I have to figure out first.

What are your writing strengths? 

Managing tone? Something I enjoy doing anyway -- zipping along on a wild ride from goofy to angsty to heartfelt to absurd and back again. I’ve also been told I’m good at weird banter lol.

What are your writing weaknesses? 

Awkward run on sentences where I’m trying to pack too much in at once. PLOT ??? WHAT IS PLOT why can’t the characters just have a lot of feelings for no reason idk idk. being heavy handed with metaphors and ~themes~

What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet, but want to? 

I want to write for Phlox sometime. I’m sure there’s a Quark rare pair I haven’t touched yet that’ll get obsessed with enough for a oneshot lol.

What's your favorite fic that you've written?

“What Is This Feeling?” has my whole heart. 

"Dinner for One" also has a special place - getting out my Sisko family feels, plus I pulled off making Siskuark happen (briefly) lol.

WIP SNIP

This is SNIP is from my WIP good stuff folder. It's over a decade old, but I keep it because I always felt it had potential. I have about 5K written. It's temp title is Ghost Ship. I've spliced some scenes together here, so you can get the gist.

Scene 1: "Draco, come here, look properly! What do you think?" Harry saw Draco's face up close now, right beside his father's. They were extraordinarily alike, except that while his father looked beside himself with excitement, Draco's expression was full of reluctance, even fear. But then the words came out. "It's him. It's Potter," he said, and he walked away toward the fireplace where his mother stood watching. Lucius pressed his wand to his forearm, calling Voldemort. Bellatrix, Narcissa, and Draco all had their wands pointing towards the trio.  Harry knew at that moment he'd lost. The world seemed to shake on its axis. Everything seemed wrong.

Scene 2: 3 spliced scenes the morning after Hogwarts Battle

Draco gave a wry smile and walked over to the four-poster bed.  Harry kept his wand pointing at Malfoy's chest.  "What do you want, Malfoy?" "I—I need to show you something.  I need you to know and I'm afraid it will be gone soon," Draco said, his hand sliding through his fringe that needed a wash.  "What do you need to show me right now?  Why can't it wait?  I've had a bit of morning." Draco couldn't help but laugh.  "A bit of a morning you say?  I know, Potter, but I think you should know.  It was what Dumbledore left me in his will." ... "Just some words," Draco said.  None of us could figure it out then but eventually its meaning became clear. Harry snorted.  It sounded like the Headmaster. "What did his will say?" "My mercy still awaits," Draco said. ... Draco burst out laughing.  "Potter, this isn't a fairy ring like they taught us in school.  This is one where second chances are given." "What?" Harry asked as he rose so he could see Draco as they talked.  "You mean like a Time-Turner?"  "Almost," Draco responded and then turned towards the white marble....he took a few steps over and then lay his hands on it.  "Time-turners were mainly used to observe and not interfere." Harry coughed.  "Well small changes could be made, and then life carried on absorbing this new course.  Eventually it all blends in. This type of fairy ring, though, only appears when the course of history has been altered. Someone made a wrong decision, and the repercussions were so bad that it couldn't be absorbed. There was no way for things to get back on track.  It had been irrevocable altered.” "What did you use it for? Why didn't you go back to the night Dumbledore died?" Harry asked. That is what he felt he would have done if given the chance. "That might have made a difference, but I doubt it. Dumbledore was going to die anyway. That is what Snape told me once in confidence. No this was worse than that night, Potter." Harry walked over to where Draco stood and placed his hand next to his. The marble was cool and smooth. "What could have been worse?" Draco looked at him. Harry shivered. The last time those grey eyes had stared at him like this had been at Malfoy Manor when Draco said he wasn't sure it was him. Harry knew that Draco had been lying. But why? Then it struck him...the truth. "You confirmed it was me that day in the Manor, didn't you?" The nod was slow but deliberate. "Did I die?" Harry asked without hesitation. "Yeah, you did along with Weasley and Granger. It was over in a few moments and then everything became so much worse."
