They're done! I really want to try and make prints again as it's been years and I've never felt like I was very good at making whole posters. Dipping my toe back in with these silly chibis of each Papa with every Ghoul they've had. Perhaps they can also work as a guide for those wanting to learn all the characters? I added in a fair amount of little references with the Ghoul's poses so it'll be interesting to see what you guys figure out and notice!
The prints are on pre-order and won't ship out until November. I've put up 25 of each to start with but if they get low on stock I'll keep adding more until I have them printed and then it'll be a set amount in stock.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also a reminder about the stickers of every Ghost Papa and Ghoul that I made earlier this year that are also available as customisable badges! Thank you so much to everyone who already bought them and got Etsy to list them as a 'bestseller' for a while. They're still up and in stock.
EDIT: someone informed me Delta was not in Secondo's era so sorry little water ghoul but he got edited out of that drawing.
Characters featured on the prints and are also available on stickers and badges: Papa Emeritus I / Primo, Papa Emeritus II / Secondo, Papa Emerirus III / Terzo, Papa Emeritus IV / Cardinal Copia, Aether, Air, Alpha / Fire, Aurora, Chain / Water, Cirrus, Cowbell, Cumulus, Delta, Dewdrop / Sodo, Earth, Ifrit, Ivy, Lake, Mist, Mountain, Omega / Quintessence, Pebble, Phantom, Phil / Special Ghoul, Rain, Sunshine, Swiss, Zephy.
I can’t link to my Etsy without risking Tumblr hiding the post from tag search results, but the link is in my pinned post, my carrd, I’m emptymasks on Etsy. Reblogs help support artists more than likes ❤
[ID: Four landscape drawings, one for each of Ghost's Papas and the Ghouls that were in the band with them while they were the lead singer. Each Papa is in the center with each of their ghouls standings to their sides. Every character has their name written above or below them, on brightly coloured backgrounds for each Papa's robe colour. Also, individual pixel art chibi drawings of 69 characters from various European musicals (listed above) that are available as stickers. These drawings are also available as badges where they are placed inside circles to show what they will look like as physical button badges, some of them with plain colour backgrounds and some with 1-3 different pride flags as examples of how you can customise the backgrounds.]
For those who want to know what the little references in the prints are and don't want to guess, they're under the cut:
Omega can be a stompy boy when he's playing guitar, Alpha likes to throw up peace signs, Air is very found of the rock horns hand symbol, there's one close-up photo of Lake out there where you can clearly see his black sclera contacts and he's doing double 'horns' hand symbol, Mountain infamously takes his shoes off when playing the drums and leaves them on the stage at the site of his drumkit, Dewdrop likes to like.. most things including his guitar and his picks and sometimes his own hand, Pebble liked to hand out his drumsticks at the end of shows by dropkicking them into the crowd, Omega wore a flower tucked into his guitar strap during one show and Terzo constantly flirts with him more than other ghouls, Delta is suspected to be the ghoul that attempted to kick an audience member off stage when they climbed onstage and attempted to kiss Terzo, Zephyr was the only band member and only keyboardist who sat down while playing, the special ghoul played by Tobias wore a nametag 'Phil' in an interview, Swiss constantly is showing all his teethies with his smiles and always wiggling and moving around, Aether and Dewdrop often interact with Dew teasing/bothering Aether, Dew and Rain also often interact with Dew constantly reaching to grab his neck and attempt to kiss him, aaaand I think that's everything I intentionally included other than just generally tried to get the poses and expressions to match the personality we've seen from each ghoul.

If you are still taking EGOs to analyze, have you done Sunshower / Drifting Fox?
I have not yet, so let's take a look!
Under the cut, wheeee~
Let's start with the Drifting Fox itself. Unlike most Limbus Abnormalities, for which you have to do some deep readings to recognise their themes, Drifting Fox spells out its themes quite clearly in its Observation Logs.
Here, we're dealing with the idea of feign kindness vs genuine kindness. Kindness done to make yourself feel good without thinking of whether or not it will actually help the one you're being kind to, vs kindness done because you genuinely care about the one you're being kind to.
Some other themes that can be read from this abnormality are abandonment, seeking affection, thoughtfulness behind one's actions (and lack thereof), and learned distrust.
Now, there is also the fact that Drifting Fox and its E.G.O, Sunshower, seem to have some inspiration in the Fox Rain folktale, which mostly revolves around unrequited love. However... There isn't much about Drifting Fox that seems to really connect to that theme at all. The most I can say about it is that the theme was twisted into one about the Fox struggling to accept love from others due to its bad experiences with people who pretended to love it for selfish reasons.
As such I won't really be using the folktale in the analysis, as while I'm sure some connections can be drawn between it and Sunshower E.G.O users, in my opinion they're not as important to character analysis as drawing connections to the Drifting Fox itself.
While we're talking about Sunshower E.G.O users, let's name them finally. Outis and Yi Sang. While Heathcliff uses a Lobcorp version of the E.G.O in one of his IDs, I won't be looking into it in this post because analyzing Identities is a very different process to analyzing E.G.Os, and one I'm still trying to polish. Maybe one day I'll be able to dip my toes into full ID analysis, but until then, E.G.O only.
With Yi Sang, we can definitely see Drifting Fox's themes here, especially with the context of Canto IV. After all, feign kindness is exactly what he experienced from Gubo after the League disbanded, an event that led to him feeling abandoned and distrustful of everyone but Sang Yi. Which, speaking of him, is the main person Yi Sang was seeking affection from during the time he was effectively abandoned.
Now, when it comes to Outis... We really don't know much about her or her background. However, I think one way the theme of feign kindness presents itself in her is, well, with how she acts. Outis's whole schtick is that she's pretending to be kind towards Dante, seemingly for her own benefit.
However... Something tells me it's not as simple as that. Thoughout the story, we get hints towards Outis's life. How she had to sacrifice a lot during her time on the battlefield, and hints towards some complex feeling regarding family she had to leave behind to join the war.
Does she believe she abandoned her family? Or, now that the war is over, does she think they had abandoned her in return? Is feign kindness something that only applies to her own actions? Or is it something she herself experienced as well, and had to learn how to use by herself to survive? She certainly feels like the distrusting type to me...
We don't know enough to say for sure right now, but it is certainly interesting to speculate about.
Let's move on to Sin analysis, as this is where something very interesting happens.
Sunshower is the first shared E.G.O we have that has Different Sin Damage depending on its user. This, of course, paints a very different picture of how these themes apply to each of its users.
Outis's Sunshower deals Gluttony damage. Gluttony is a Sin that represents actions done out of hunger, both hunger for survival and hunger for more. With what little we know about Outis, I think in this case we can firmly place this Gluttony as the survival type.
This implies that her own feigning of kindness is something she began doing as a way to survive what she has gone through, likely during the war and after it had ended. It could also symbolize her own distrust being a way to survive in the wake of other people feigning kindness towards her.
Yi Sang's Sunshower deals Sloth damage. Sloth is a sin that represents actions done out of apathy and inaction, which at this point is a Sin Staple for Yi Sang. This, of course, represents how he deals with feign kindness and abandonment - apathy and resignation.
When the League fell apart, Yi Sang resigned himself to following the guidance of whoever first told him what to do. When met with Gubo's feign kindness, Yi Sang responded with apathy, and resigned himself to following his orders because there was nothing else he thought he could do.
Sin requirements-wise, both Outis and Yi Sang require Sloth, Gluttony, and Gloom, while Yi Sang also adds some Pride on top of that. Let's take this one at a time.
For both Outis and Yi Sang, Sloth represents some form of resignation and/or apathy. This, of course, is extremely clear for Yi Sang, whose very character arc revolves around overcoming his depressive apathy. When it comes to Outis, I think this also applies, if in lesser amounts. Over the course of the war she participated in, she likely had learn to be complacent, to simply follow her leader's orders and not grow too attached to anyone.
Next up, Gluttony. Like with Sloth, I think this represents the same thing for both Outis and Yi Sang, that being that their actions were a way to survive the circumstances they were in. For Outis, it was the only way she could make it through the war, and the only way she can keep going after. For Yi Sang, it was the only way he could survive the League's disbanding and being captured by N Corp.
Then, we have Gloom. Gloom as a sin represents actions done under the pressure of negative emotions. It implies severe emotional stress. Knowing what we know about Outis and Yi Sang... Yeah. Yeah it makes sense for Gloom to be there. I don't think I need to go into too much detail on that.
Lastly, we have Pride for Yi Sang. Pride represents actions done purely for their benefit, while their consequences are ignored. This, I think, is meant to reflect the dilemma Yi Sang was going through during his time at N Corp. He had to do whatever Gubo was telling him to just to survive, and had to ignore the damage he would be indirectly contributing to by helping him.
Before we end off, let's briefly look at the dialogue lines.
Outis's lines are quite... interesting, in my opinion. Her Awakening line reflect the theme of rejecting feigned, meaningless kindness, which I think further affirms Outis's distrust towards others.
However, I think her Corroded line here is much more interesting. It seems to represent Outis's fear of being abandoned. Not only that, but it implies it's something that happened to her at least once before. Perhaps I wasn't that far off about the idea of Outis suffering through something herself that made her learn to feign kindness herself.
Yi Sang's lines on the other hand seem to be more focusing on his own inability to do anything about his situation. His Awakening line reflects his worries about not being able to truly help anyone, while his Corroded line seems to show him falling fully into hopelessness and lamenting over the situation only getting worse.
So, there you go! I might at some point later analyze Sunshower Heathcliff once I figure out a proper method to analyzing IDs, but that day isn't today.

Thunder in the seas with a reminder of his childhood
The sea clouded with darkness, large clouds turned the whole sky nearly pitch black as if it was raining ash that day. No amount of sunlight peeked through them only loud bangs of thunder. The type of thunder that rattled the ship and the seas. The one that made your ears feels as if they were about to experiance a shockwave. You hid in your room trying to avoid the noise, trying to keep busy. Not a journal not a book helped to relieve the stress you were feeling, hands meek from the heightened sense of insecurity you stared out into the window. A thing you shouldn't be doing, however seeing the lightning strike you couldnt help but to await the next bang of thunder.
Nami had warned you that clouds have been forming in the sea for a while, the winds had picked up pace so why was it so surprising that there was actual rain and thunder?
The door clanked behind you, shrouded footsteps made their way behind you, Zoro's hands slid down from your shoulder to your hands.
"Dont stare at the sea." He assured speaking in a calm and low manner like he always did.
"Wasn't staring.. Just thinking." You puff a rather large breath. The anticipation of another strike was a little unnerving. Your eyes glimmered with fear that of a lost animal. You looked up at the familiar man smiling shyly to avoid any suspicion of your fear for the weather.
He smirked, he's not stupid. Youre barley holding his hand and even if you are, its so cold and boneless.
"Im gonna catch a nap, wanna join?" he retorted ignoring the issue just a little. Anything to find a distraction for you.
"I dont think ill be able to sleep Zoro." You watched as he slid off his boots laying in your shared bed, his hands behind his head he watched out of the small window, the sea looked pitch black almost, you couldnt even see the waves Sunny left behind.
"Doesn't matter just come." He waved you over.
You sighed. When hes set on something he'll stick to it.
You sat next to him in bed feeling the shift of his weight dip into the matress as his head landed over your shoulder he spoke lazily, voice a little choaked from the position.
"Youre afraid arent you?"
You stiffened up at the words your toes curling in your boots were the only indication that he saw through you.
"A little. It's only thunder." You laughed it off as a joke and yet the second you heard the sky roaring your eyes darted to the small window. The room shook a little. The new world really had some strangley strong weather.
"I was afraid of thunder as a kid. I remember my teacher telling me i used to cry the whole night if it ever thundered." He admitted calmly his hand reaching around your chest to your other shoulder he pushed you back on the bed.
Your head landed on the side of his torso, his steady breathing unnoticably calming your nerves a little bit.
"He had to start wearing ear muffs during late summer, apparantley i was the loudest crier he had ever heard." He scratched his cheek shrugging his shoulders a little bit.
"Did you grow out of it?" You asked even though the way he relaxed on your shared bed spoke for itself.
"More than id like to admit. Sometimes it still surprises me. Today's is a little harsh." He looks over at you and then out of the window once more. Sky is still dark as ever, The Sunnys creaking under the uneven waves of the sea, the whole floor sways lightly under the shackles of it.
"Thats what we get for going out to the New world, huh?" You steady yourself upwards only to rest your read over his chest.
"It's the price we pay for Luffy's dreams." He smiles to himself arm tracing soothing circles over your back. His hand moves slowly like hes thinking over each swipe of his fingers.
His heart beat is slow and steady, roaring in his chest is only the sound of pure calm. You listen in the steady thumps keep pushing up against your cheek with each beat eliminating the sound of thunder as you lose your sense of hearing anything but his heartbeat.
His eyes close, and yet his hand still draws lazy circles over your back, he shifts a little forward placing an unusual kiss on your hair as he continues.
"I don't think it'll stop anytime soon." He speaks softly the gravel in his tone is unparred.
"We could sleep it off if that's the case." You chuckle, theres no way Luffy wouldnt come barging it at the slightest hint of hard rain exclaiming hes all soaked in the rain.
Zoros free hand moves to take out each katana out of their signature spot, he lays them besides the bed staring up into the celing.
A big yawn echoes in the room causing you to yawn aswell. Whats with that coincidental mimmickery?
"I can't picture you crying over thunder." you speak up resting a hand over his chest just before your face.
"I can. The way my teacher said, it was the most annoying thing hes ever had to hear for hours. I imagine he started telling me that thunders nothing to be afraid soon after i ruined his ears." He chuckled with a puff of breath, stifling another yawn, the circling on your back seemed to pause, coming back for a few seconds and then dissapearing once more.
He was fighting his sleep to make sure you felt alright.
"Sleep mosshead, im alright." You throw a joking nickname watching as his hand rests on the small of your back his brows furrow.
He says nothing only the sound of slow breathing fills the air his brows unfurrow lightly as you pick up your head to check on him.
"Thank you." You whisper drawing lazy circles over his chest, the thunder roars outside but it cant get inside this room anymore. His presence seems to be enough to calm down the fear that tends to set on your skin. A little noise won't do much if he's there with you.

The smell of death seems almost normal now . Stale air that keeps the metallic tang of blood hangs hot and musty in the basement where you sway on the meat hook . A few days ago it made you gag , now it clings to the sweat and dirt on your skin that seems to build up in layers , and you’ve come to accept it .
The sound of the metal door screeching and creaking open catches your attention . A chilling fear corses down you and makes the Texas heat a distance memory . Would you be next ? Slaughtered and cut up by the brutal butcher wearing a dead man’s face ? Somehow you muster the strength to try and escape , but with your wrist bound and caught between a hook , and your toes barely scrapping the concrete below it’s nearly impossible . The only thing you can end up doing for yourself is sway more in a mockery of how you’d been strung up .
Heavy footsteps sound the unavoidable arrival of the man you least want to see . And soon his large frame comes into view , his shadow engulfing you . He’s filthy . But then again , you both are right now . It makes you wonder if he ever knew what being clean was ? Maybe . His somewhat put together outfit - a pair of slacks , a button up shirt , a tie , and a filthy blood stained apron . It’s an odd combination , a mimicry of a some proper hillbilly gentleman . Though you refuse to look at his face . Even when he shoves a crackled bowl of water against your lips , the cool water heaven against your chapped lips .
You hate yourself for giving in , but the need for that reviving liquid on your too dry throat is too great for you to resist . And the happy noises that come from the man who seems to get closer show that it must be a good decision on your part . Maybe you’d live a little bit longer . Maybe long enough to hope .
All too soon you swallow down the last drop of the water offered , and you curse yourself for now savoring it more - who knows when your next taste of relief will come ? The thought isn’t a settling one . You try not to think about it . Instead your eyes move to the shuffling form of your captor .
He doesn’t talk . He’s never talked . Grunted , yes , something he babbled as if he were saying words , happy squeals , angry grunts . It was all so . . . confusing . Knowing what this man wanted , why he was keeping you , it was impossible . But still , you held your breath , hoping his hands wouldn’t move towards the weapon he’d brandished so easily the first time you saw him .
It’s as if he knows what you’re thinking . He moves towards the table where the heavy piece of machinery sits . All the sudden you’re too tense , too on edge , hyper vigilant as you hold your breath . Today’s the day , isn’t it ? You’d lived your last . You’ll end up cut in half and butchered just like your friends and this man will just be find and -
Seeming all too happy the hulking masked man sits down at the table . It’s only then you notice the items he’s placed alongside his chainsaw , and the sight of them do nothing to help you calm the sudden hammering of your heart . A new sharper chain , oil , and a few small tools . If you had any tears left to cry , they’d be streaming down your face and blinding your vision .
All too aware of your impending mutilation your eyes lock on his movements . Thick , fat , dirty fingers so easily working to get the old chain off . Chunks of meat and dried blood staining the worn down chain . How many bones had been sawed by those dull blades ? Would id be less painful to tie under the sharp teeth of a clean chain ? Or would it hurt the same as being torn into by the work worn saw ?
Suddenly your trembling , so focused on those fiddling fingers oiling and cleaning the now chainless saw that you don’t realize you’ve made noise . The fact the fingers have paused , bow tapping nervously doesn’t click in your mind . And when it does it causes your brow to furrow , eyes flickering to the masked man’s face - a mistake . The moment you take in the stolen face of another person you want to gag and throw up the water you’d only just had . But what’s worse is that you lock eyes with the behemoth of a man .
Dark swirling brown eyes . Ones that are too bright , too curious as he stares at you . It feels like an eternity but finally you pull your gaze away , glancing back to the weapon on the table . And those brown eyes follow your gaze . Thick fingers move back over the metal , then down lower , and lower until they’re resting against the plastic starter .
Never in your life had you felt your heart sink to your stomach so quickly . A soft “no” leaving your cracked lips . Another mistake , because the larger man wraps his fingers around the starter and starts to pull . In abstract horror you watch . One easy pull , like it was nothing to rev the motor . The heavy saw weightless in large hands and thick arms . A second one and the motor sings for a few se seconds before fluttering off . The third has your vision blinding , fear flooding your senses and making it hard to even bring air into your lungs .
The panic consumes you in such a way that the heavy steps of the large man coming closer don’t register in your ears . It’s not until you feel the metal of the saw vibrating against your thigh that you jolt back to reality , letting you a shocked sob . But pain never comes . There’s no tearing of flesh under vicious teeth . No searing hot pain as you’re torn in two . Instead just the shaky , loud hum of the motor and the chainless saw against your skin .
Confusion is an understatement . Why - What happened ? What was - An aborted attempt to shift away is made , only for the man who’s gotten closer to raise the tip of the saw up and towards -
“W - Wait ! Don -“ You try to speak , but the butcher has other ideas . The saw makes it way between your legs , rubbing over your clothed crotch .
The vibrations are so sudden and shocking that you choke on your words . In an attempt to get away your thighs all together , but it only seems to make it worse . An excited noise coming from the larger man as it moves closer and starts forcing his saw between them , forward and back forward and back . Those curious big brown eyes focused on how you squirm .
The movement makes you cry out . In panic , in shock , in some fucked up kind of forced arousal - you aren’t sure . And every reaction pulled from you only boldens the large Texan .
With a whimper you try to pull away , only to find the base of the saw pressed close to you , the vibrations so powerful that you can’t stop your body from coming undone . With a soft cry , and the steady obeisant grinding of the chainsaw against your sex , you cum .
Shame floods you , along with a strange relief . Not even the sound of the chainsaw dying and the loss of friction is enough to pull you from your sudden exhaustion . So much effort your body didn’t have pulled out of you by just a few unwanted touches . Yet you welcomed the warmth in your belly . It was something - proof that you were alive , some kind of final acceptance .
Hanging slack and panting , the larger man’s hands flutter over you . Chubby fingers smudging the dirt on your cheek with his own only for them to tentatively travel down to the mess in your shorts . The action pulls a gasp from you , and continues to make you squirm as he lets his hands explore . Cupping and rubbing , spreading the wet mess over you and making it seep further into the fabric keeping his rough padded fingers from your sensitive flesh .
It’s a relief when he pulls them away . Only for you to to go breathless when your shorts are roughly tugged down and you’re fully exposed . The air is hot , but feels freezing on your slick skin , not that you have time to think of it before there’s a leather nose shoved between your thighs . The curious babbles , happy squeals , and heavy sniffing sounds make you squirm away , but you only move against him more as he snorts softly .
A mouth soon follows the nose and a sobbed , “Please ! D -“ tears from your throat only to fall on deaf ears . A thick , too hot , too wet tongue glides over you dipping and lapping as fat lips suckle and teeth lightly scrape over your most sensitive place . He’s eating up your mess . The idea of it makes your belly do a flip - and at this point you don’t know if it’s good or bad . But it is maddening .
Those fat hands grips your thighs easily , spreading them as he continues his adventurous assault on you . The same dizzying warmth flooding you and when you twitch and leak , the pleased sounds from the man on his knees seems almost welcome .
“BUBBA ! GET UP HERE WE GOT VISITORS !”
Just as soon as it’d happened it was over . The large man - Bubba - stood towering over you , whipping the mess on his mask off his face with the back of a dirty man . Only to use the same one to pat the top of your head like one would a pet . Quicker than you’d like to have seen he puts on the fresh chain to his weapon and revs it up . The gleaming metal shining in the dull light of the basement .
As the man runs upstairs you whimper out . The sounds of screams filling your ears as you wonder just how long you had before you ended up on the table .

A Golden Lovers Timeline
PART 3: FALLING BEHIND
Now that the Golden Lovers have dipped their toes into NJPW there begins to emerge a marked difference in their success. they’ve been fairly equally successful thus far, competing together and apart in ddt, but starting now Kota begins to see success in new japan that kenny can’t match
Both of the GLs get their first Wrestle Kingdom match at WK 5 (wrestle kingdom is the second biggest wrestling show in the world, held annually Jan 4th at the Tokyo Dome) Kenny is put in a meaningless tag match (a dark match, not even on the official show) where he is paired with some random opera-themed junior (it’s Taichi) while Kota challenges Devitt for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship [Official LINK] [Unofficial LINK (has extra content before and after the match)].
The match is promoted as DDT vs NJPW, with Kota presented as the face of DDT
Tumblr media
[ID: picture from the pre-match video showing the DDT wrestlers standing in a V formation with Kota at the front and Kenny behind him on his right side. Words over the top of the image say DDT PRO-WRESTLING. End ID]
Kota proudly brings the tag title he shares with Kenny to the ring
Tumblr media
[ID: Kota standing at the top of the Wrestle Kingdom ramp holding his tag title in the air and like doing a snarl face. End ID]
Kenny and Michael Nakazawa are there supporting Kota, kneeling beside the ring like young lions
Tumblr media
[ID: a screenshot from the match with Kenny and Nakamura’s little heads circled. End ID]
Kota ends up losing to Devitt’s finisher bloody sunday, and Kenny gets into the ring to take care of him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: two gifs from after the match. in the first Kenny kneels down beside Kota, holding his hand and holding an ice pack to his neck. their heads are close like Kenny is speaking to him. In the second Kenny is helping Kota stand, Kota leaning back against Kenny’s chest. End ID]
Because Devitt pinned Kota, he and Tagachi have the right to a title match for the tag titles, and they make the challenge immediately
The title defense takes place at Fantasticamania just a few days later (Jan 23, 2011 [LINK]). The lovers do several of their famous double pins where they both pin the person at the same time
Tumblr media
[ID: Kenny and Kota both lay on top of Taguchi, trying to pin him for the 3 count. it’s not not extremely gay and romantic looking. End ID]
(which seems like it just Should be considered cheating and a heel move but isn’t because they’re In Love so we’ll allow it)
they lose and Kenny gets pinned. When they face Devitt and Taguchi again a few months later, it’s Kenny who gets pinned again. [Aug 14, 2011 - LINK]
After the match they’re both too tired to stand but Kota is still determinedly icing kenny’s neck
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: two gifs of the Golden Lovers collapsed on the ground after the match, Kota puts an ice pack on Kenny’s neck, Kenny puts his hand on top of Kota’s and he relaxes into the ground. End ID]
Kota never sees these losses as Kenny’s losses. Why would he? They’re a team. He never seems to look at Kenny the way Kenny looks at himself. he never values or devalues Kenny based on success, even years later when Kenny has come to believe that success is the only thing that gives him any value
from Kenny’s pov it’s a little more complicated. success and equal ability is an intrinsic part of their relationship to him
“Our "love” is based on trust and heading towards the same goal. It’s just like marriage. And to be the best, we know what we want to do and it’s important to synchronize perfectly.” -Kenny, July 2011 LINK
Being in sync, being the best and able to match each other, having a shared goal they can strive for together has always been a part of what makes them work in Kenny’s mind
And that goal is to show the world that they are the best, not just for themselves but for the fans who supported them and continue to make it possible for Kenny to come to Japan
Tumblr media
[ID: Screenshot of a backstage DDT promo. Kenny is subtitled saying “We will be #1 not for us, for you.” End ID LINK)
And he saw NJPW as “the best place” to accomplish that goal (Kenny in an interview, Feb 2011 LINK)
Kenny getting pinned by Devitt again and again, Kenny not being good enough to retain or win back their titles, has put an end to the lovers’ dreams of tag team success in NJPW (for now)
As far as I can tell this is when Kenny stops coming ringside to Kota’s njpw matches. Kota wins the jr title from Devitt at Dominion (June 18, 2011) and Kenny’s not there (Taguchi is there. Nakazawa is there. Kenny is in Japan.) a few months later (Sept 12, 2011) Kota is forced to vacate the title due to injury but he wins it back as soon as he returns to competition
When Kota returns from injury the GLs are involved in a 6-man match for NJPW (June 16, 2012)
Tumblr media
[ID: screenshot of the end of the match. Kenny, Kota and their partner Daisuke Sasaki are having their hands raised in victory by the ref. in the foreground a young and disgruntled BUSHI is holding his head. End ID]
this will be the last time they tag together in NJPW until 2018
Nothing has changed for them in DDT tho, except that Kota is beginning to see singles success there as well
In 2012 Kota is in the middle of a highly successful singles run in both companies, holding the IWGP Junior Heavyweight title and DDT’s KO-D Openweight championship simultaneously
Tumblr media
[ID: picture of Kota holding both titles as he walks down the entrance ramp. End ID]
Altho Kenny has won titles in other companies, he has yet to follow in Kota’s footsteps and hold any singles title in either DDT or NJPW. but that may be about to change
Kenny competes in and wins DDT’s King of DDT tournament, giving him the right to challenge for the KO-D Openweight Championship at DDT’s anniversary show, which this year is being held at Budokan Hall. This is the largest space DDT has ever performed in (something Kenny and Kota are both incredibly proud of) and the Golden Lovers are going to main event the show, facing each other in singles competition for the first time in 4 years
“I’d made a mission statement to do whatever I could to help build this small company up to something bigger than it originally was when I had gotten there...then finally in the year 2012 they could run Budokan. Not only that, but we sold it out. And the company had enough faith to put me on top against, you know, one of my best friends and someone that I had done almost all of my greatest accomplishments in Japan with, which was Ibushi.” - Kenny, Jan 19, 2017 interview with wrestling observer
the lovers are excited but also a little trepidatious. they know what they’re capable of when they fight each other
"Four years ago I came to DDT with the purpose to try and match Ibushi. To kind of show that Ibushi isn't the only 'Ibushi' in the world...What caused our friendship to become so strong was our first singles match and since then we've become a great tag team as well, because of that strong relationship. So there's never a feeling that comes in my mind, I never feel like I want to do damage to my friend. And there have been so many times when we've talked with each other and said never again, we'll never have a singles match again. But we did say if there was a right place and a right time then we would do it. and to me and maybe to ibushi as well there's no better time than now.” - Kenny in a promo for the match LINK
The Budokan match takes place August 18, 2012, and it is truly, truly incredible. [LINK high quality version BUT the balcony spot is cut out; LINK lower quality but has a clip of the balcony moonsault in the correct place]
Tumblr media
[ID: gif from the beginning of the match. Kota holds out his hand and Kenny takes it. Kota smiles and nods. End ID]
You can see how much they’ve both grown as performers in the intervening years, and how much their relationship and trust in each other has evolved
Knowing each other as well as they do has changed the way they fight, not only the strategy they (especially Kenny) employ against the other but also the intensity they bring to the match
I called their first singles match brutal, but this one is on another level entirely. it takes them a little while to work their way up to it, but once they get started the brutality is in every part of it. It’s in the way that their love for each other doesn’t cause them to hesitate
Tumblr media
[ID: Kenny bounces off the ropes and kicks Kota in the face. Kota staggers back and his tongue comes out, kind of monstrous, kind of enjoying himself, he leans against the ropes and uses the momentum to kick kenny in the face. End ID]
It’s in the mean way Kenny keeps putting his hand on Kota’s face in the beginning
Tumblr media
[ID: Gif Kenny has Kota pushed up against the ropes and instead of doing a clean rope break he presses his open hand into Kota’s face as Kota leans back and away from him. End ID]
and the little moments where they almost seem to be enjoying themselves
Tumblr media
[ID: gif of Kota sitting in the ring corner, head against the second turnbuckle, he’s holding his arm, shoulders hunched in pain. Kenny kicks him in the face and he flinches. And then he just relaxes and looks up and Kenny, sticking his tongue out, almost smiling. Kind of like he’s daring Kenny to do it again. End ID]
it’s in the big spots (one of which Kenny still calls one of the most painful of his career)
Tumblr media
[ID: gif of Kota giving Kenny a hurricanrana from the top turnbuckle to the floor. End ID]
it’s in the little details of their offense, like their use of closed fists
Tumblr media
[ID: gif of Kota doing close-fisted punches to Kenny’s neck and shoulder, after the first one Kenny gets his arms up to try to block them. End ID]
and it’s in the pacing and their relentlessness, giving the other no breathing room even in the midst of incredible exhaustion and pain
(as with all wrestling, brutality like this is also a statement of utter trust, putting their body in the hands of the other and trusting they’ll be protected. Kenny has talked about how he can’t have this kind of match with just anyone)
when people talk about this match the infamous balcony spot is often the first thing that comes to mind. it’s an insane moment, and one that got Kota irl banned from performing in Budokan Hall for many years afterwards
Tumblr media
[ID: gif of Kota doing a moonsault from the second story balcony onto Kenny who is waiting below him. End ID]
some people don’t like this spot, “Why doesn’t Kenny just move?”
how could he move? If he moves and Kota jumps, Kota will be hurt. In the midst of this incredibly brutal match, kenny is trapped, rooted to the spot by his love for kota and his desire not to see him be seriously harmed
As mithen points out in her essay on Moonsaults, Kota doesn’t look back before he jumps. He doesn’t check that Kenny is still there. He knows he is.
there’s so much in this match. I think the essay A Body from the Balcony by LB Teufel [LINK] has a really interesting analysis of their characters and relationship in this match, and I highly recommend checking it out
“Watching Omega struggle to keep up with Ibushi, not out of anger or disdain, but suddenly the protagonist of a shōnen anime trying to overcome the rival he loves and respects, I am struck by the feeling that what we saw in the beginning wasn’t true. This is the authentic Kenny Omega— earnest and tenacious— and this is the authentic Kota Ibushi— sublime and imposing.” (- LB Teufel)
In the end all Kenny’s earnest tenacity isn’t enough. He throws everything he has at Kota, even successfully hits him with the one winged angel. and Kota kicks out (becoming (to this day, if i’m not mistaken) the only wrestler to ever do so).
And Kota wins.
when the match ends you can see Kenny try to kick out just after the 3 count (fighting to the very end) and then Kota pulls him immediately into his arms
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: two gifs. In the first one Kenny attempts to kick out of the pin too late and Kota pulls him back down so that Kenny’s head is in his lap. He leans over him and holds onto him. in the second gif he continues to do this. End ID]
it’s an incredibly meaningful match for the wrestlers involved
“I had thought that there was really nothing bigger than that. It was uh not just on a professional level, but on a personal level as well. I mean how cool is it that you can share your biggest and greatest match with one of your best friends and do something that you never thought that you could do? It’s really the stuff that dreams are made out of. I had thought that there would be no greater feeling in pro wrestling for me than that moment.” (Kenny, Jan 19, 2017 - Interview with Wrestling Observer)
and they promise each other they will never do it again

More Degrees of Lewdity. Bailey/F!reader 18+ a short PWP. A little bath time voyeurism. vaginal fingering, dubcon, threats of violence, power imbalance, possessive behaviour.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
You scream as your gaze lands on Bailey, standing in the bathroom doorway. His stare is fixated on you, a smirk turning up the corner of his mouth as you pointlessly try to cover yourself up. There are no bubbles in your bath, no money for luxury outside of some good old fashioned soap, so even if he's only been standing there for a few seconds, he's had a good view.
He's swaying slightly as he stands there staring and you think he might be drunk.
"I'm nearly finished." You're not sure what else to say. Continuing to wash yourself or standing up to get out seems too much like you’re inviting him closer. He's never shown much interest in you outside of your ability to make him money but the way he's staring at you makes you very uncomfortable.
You cross your arms over your chest and hope he decides to wander away as you watch him back warily.
"You really think Avery is going to take you away from here?" He sounds not quite angry but hurt almost, and he’s definitely drunk. "That the little orphan with the daddy issues is going to be rescued?"
You shake your head but inside you’re panicking. How could he possibly know that? Avery loved to talk about taking you away, taking you to see the world and showing you off, and while it was a wonderful fantasy, you didn't really believe him. You wanted to, humoured him when he brought it up, even hoped more than anything that he would, but you weren't stupid.
"Another year and you'll be too old for him," Bailey stumbles towards you and you shrink back in alarm. "But don't worry; I'll still be here to look after you."
He kneels down beside the tub, idly dragging his fingers through the hot water. Now he's close you can smell the alcohol on him and the first tendrils of fear curl in your gut. You've never seen him drunk.
“Get out.” You speak before your brain can stop you and his hand immediately grabs your throat, slamming your head back against the edge of the tub so hard you see stars.
"S-sorry! Bailey plea-"
He squeezes, choking you until you're clawing at his arm, leaving bloody trenches over his tattoos and water splashing everywhere as you try to escape his hold.
"Relax," he leans over you, bringing his face close to yours, forcing your attention on to him. "Relax princess and I’ll let go."
It's terrifying, your lungs screaming for air but you force yourself to try and relax. You let your hands drop from his arm and as you do he loosens his hold. It lets you breathe, and you choke in desperate gulps of air as he continues to loosely hold your throat.
He lets go completely when you completely still, his fingers dipping back into the slowly cooling water as he watches you hazily, his drunken state making his eyes look red and bloodshot.
"You don't get too leave," he reaches up to stroke your hair, running his fingers through it and tugging it sharply. “Not you.”
His free hand slips under the water, fingers grazing against your thigh and dipping between your legs when you whisper a plea for him to stop.
You don't dare try and push him away.
He's watching your face closely as he starts to gently stroke you, and you can't tear your gaze away from him. You let out a soft moan as he starts to draw slow small circles around your clit, your hips rocking forward despite your best efforts to keep still, the pleasure already beginning to rise.
He was being tender, almost gentle with you, focused entirely on stroking your clit when he could have easily been more forceful, rougher. He was so much bigger than you; he’d have no problem forcing you into anything he wanted. Perhaps it was that, the confusion of what you expected compared to what he was giving you making the pleasure rise so quickly. He presses harder, drawing a little gasp from you and his eyes zero in on your mouth.
“You make pretty noises.” He's drunk, obviously so, but those talented fingers between your thighs have you reaching your peak embarrassingly quick.
Your toes curled and thighs twitched around his hand as he continued his steady pace
“Bailey I-I’m-” you couldn’t even finish your sentence, you threw your head back against the rim of the tub as your orgasm hit you hard, back arching and so lost in the pleasure that the embarrassment of practically shoving your breasts in his face didn’t register.
"So easy," He snorts in amusement, his hand withdrawing to rest on your thigh. "No wonder you're so popular."
“I-I’m wasn’t leaving,” you gasp out, “I’m not.” you don’t know why you say that, some foolish urge to reassure him maybe, or an attempt at soothing the real punishment before it comes or maybe the pleasure still twitching through you is just making you brain a little addled. You regret saying it as his face darkens.
“Don’t. Lie,” His words are sharp, bitten out between clenched teeth before he takes a deep breath and nuzzles into your wet hair. "I always keep an eye on you princess," he presses a kiss to your ear which startles you even more. "Always watching." He continues mumbling into your ear, odd words of endearment that don't mix with the slurred promises of violence if you try to stray. "Understand?"
You nod quickly. You definitely don't.
His hand finally leaves your thigh and he cups your face, forcing you to look up at him. "Say thank you then." He presses two fingers against your lips and you open obediently.
Your appreciation is mumbled awkwardly around his fingers as he strokes your tongue but he looks pleased. He digs a nail into your bottom lip as pulls away, your whine of pain making his face flush and you think for one foolish second he's going to kiss you.
“Want my money. It's Friday.”
Oh. “O-Ok. It’s in my room.”
He stands, lingering by the edge of the tub and watches you expectantly.
Right. You don't look at him as you get out of the tub but you can feel his gaze on you, burning into your back as you grab your towel.
He moves, and you wrap it around yourself quickly, scared that he's going to reach out and grab you. He sighs as you turn, definitely closer than he was and you swallow hard, keeping your gaze adamantly above his waist line. You don't want to know.
He takes another slow step towards you and you find yourself unable to move as you watch him advance, your breathing panicked and uneven until he’s too close and towering over you.
You stay still as his eyes flick down to your chest then back up to your face, and your mind is screaming at you to run, but the warm press of his hand against your hip makes you mind go blank.
"Go get it, bring it to my office.”
“Yes sir.” His eyes flash at the title, dipping down to your chest again and you curse, making a silent vow not to use that word again.
The hand on your hip goes lower, tracing the hem of the towel and running across your thigh, back and forth over the damp skin and he leans in so he can run his nose along the shell of your ear. The little moan you let out makes him chuckle. “I’m not going to fuck you princess,” he murmurs darkly into your ear, “Id ruin you.”
You can’t help the breathy moan as he finally slips his hand under your towel slipping back between your thighs and pressing one of his callused digits against your entrance. “You earn too much for me to ruin you.”
You whine as he presses his finger deep inside you, your cunt still wet from your earlier orgasm and he grunts softly as your walls flutter greedily round him. Your whine turns into a disappointed whimper as he slowly withdraws. “But I think about it. Think about having you beneath me, making you scream,” You watch, enraptured, as he brings the finger wet with your arousal to his lips and licks it clean. “I think about it often.”

Where You Belong.
Tumblr media
It'd been two weeks since their breakup— if you can even classify it, as one.
Their relationship wasn't always rocky. Y'lan did everything to make sure that she was happy and taken care of and she did the same for him, but Cici began to feel neglected as time went on.
His job started to become his main focus and petty arguments became an everyday occurrence, until she got tired and moved out of his apartment, and into one of her own.
As of late, she's been enjoying being single, cumming and going as she pleases.
"So... when do I get the pleasure of seeing you, again?" Standing at the bottom of the steps, Cici and her new favorite man candy stand centimeters away from each other's lips, underneath the orange hued sun.
"Hm, you might be luckier than you think." The smitten man peers down at her, placing wet kisses on her lips.
"Mm., yo pretty ass better call me."
"Maybe I will....," she steps away from him and towards the door, her hand placed on the handle. "Maybe I won't."
"It's like that?" He asks with a raised brow.
"Always. Goodnight.," she sing-songs, unlocking the door and disappearing behind it.
Kicking her furry slides off, she sighs as the fluffy rug aides to her aching feet. Her phone starts ringing as she makes her way down the hall.
"Hello?," she answers, not even caring to look at the caller ID.
"So, you movin' on and ain't think to tell me?," Y'lan's irritated voice sounds through, causing her to roll her eyes.
"We gotta do this, tonight? I just had a great day and you're ruining it."
"Well, excuse me for being a fucking inconvenience.—"
"Yes., excuse you. You know, you got a lot of fucking nerve, calling me just to fuss at me about some shit that don't even fucking concern you.—"
"Since when does this not concern me?”
"Since your job became your whole fucking like, Y'lan!, are you kidding me?!" The huff that sounds on his end, further pisses her off.
"You just stopped caring. You were always working and always tired and I tried my hardest to be present, while you just sat there. You weren't the man that I feel in love with, anymore."
"Cici, I've been trying to apologize for the longest time, now. I know I wasn't there, like I should've been."
"Well, it's too late for that."
"Why?"
"Cause, I've been doin' this song and dance with you for too fucking long!," she leans against the wall by her bedroom. "I'm sure you out there fucking 'who knows what', so stop worrying about what I'm doing."
She hangs up and heads into her room, face planting onto the sheets and instantly knocking out.
Somewhere around midnight, Cici’s awaken by incessant banging on her front door.
"Ugh!", as she saunters down the hall, the banging grows louder, instantly annoying her. "Okay... either shut the fuck up or wait for me to open the door."
"Open it up, then." Rolling her eyes, she unlocks it and snatches it open, watching him walk in like he owns the place. Closing and locking the door back behind herself, she turns and leans against it, crossing her arms over her chest, her cleavage damn near spilling over.
Y'lan stands a few feet away from her, giving her a hard glare. "Can I help you?" She asks.
"You wanna help me understand why you hung up on me? You know I hate that shit."
"You're such a fucking baby. I didn't give enough of a shit to hear you explain whatever it is that made you act like I was no longer your girlfriend. I moved on and you should too, quit—"
"What?!," he cuts her off. She holds up her pointer finger in his direction.
"—quit!, calling me and harassing me about what and who I'm doing." His brow raises.
"Oh, so that's why you been hangin' up on me and shit. You got a new man in them walls and forgot, huh?" He strides over to her, now just a few inches from her face.
"I'm not a woman that waits. You know that. I've got needs and you weren't fulfilling them. Where's your roster of hoes at?"
"You really think I'm just out here fucking? That's all I'm about?" He questions, a crease in his left brow.
"That's how you used to be, who's to say that it still isn't?"
"Me!," he yells, pointing to his chest. "What's wrong with you?"
"You're what's wrong with me. I hate you.," she snarls, pushing him back. He grips her wrist, beaming back, this time closer to her face.
"You need that attitude fixed."
"Fix it, then."
————
A thick, sticky air shrouds the two bodies inside their bedroom. Pants, moans and grunts compete against the incessant slapping of their skin.
"Fuuuckk.... you feel so damn good, baby," she moans, taking her bottom lip between her teeth, again.
"Wet ass pussy.... I should fuckin' kill you." He grunts, before wrapping his large hand around her neck, thrusting deeper into her.
"Ahn! I'm sorry!"
"Shut the fuck up." Her hand reaches out for his thigh, as he begins to hit her spot.
"Oh fuck! You're gonna make me cum!"
"Cum on this dick." Her body jerks twice, while her pouty and swollen lips allow her foul praises, through.
"Come're." Pulling her up by her hair, his thrusts pick up speed, leaving her mouth to hang ajar.
"He gave it to you like this?"
"Nooooo.... fuck!" She quietly answers, making him move his hand back around her neck, tightly.
"I can't hear you, baby.... say it again." He grunts, dipping his hips into hers.
"No, baby!"
"He make you cum like I do?"
"No— unh!" Her toes curl, feeling him slow down some to dig into her.
"Then, why you keep fuckin' playin' with me, baby?" Moving his hand up to grab her chin, he speeds back up, the clapping of their skin refills the room.
"I'm n-not playiiiiinnng!— unh!, unh!, unh!,..." her fingers grip onto the foot board for dear life.
"I'm sorry!," she cries, feeling another orgasm brewing.
"You sorry, huh?!"
"Yes!"
"You sorry for givin' Daddy's pussy away?" Her eyes roll back as every thrust begins to hit her spot.
"Fuck— yesssss,"
"For tellin' Daddy how much you hate him?" He emphasizes his pained question with a rough stroke, sending a scream through her.
"I didn't mean it, Daddy! Fuck, I love this dick!" Her head hangs forward.
"Ohh fuuccck.... aah! I love this dick, babyyy— I love you!"
"I love yo bratty ass, too. Throw that shit back on Daddy." She bounces back on his lap, feeling him throb against her.
"Feels so good, Daddy!" One hand grips his forearm and the other searches for something to latch onto.
"You boutta cum again, baby?" He taunts in her ear, slowly dragging his girth in and out of her tightening cove.
"Ffff—" her eyes roll back as her peak begins to rear its head.
"Talk to me, babygirl."
"Yes! I'm gonna cum!" Her body hunches forward as her essence drips down her leg. She reaches back for his thigh, pulling him closer.
"Don't st-stop," her top half goes limp on the bed, giving him more leverage to demolish her without a fight.
"Fuck!, I'm gonna cum, again!" Her legs begin to tremble as he third orgasm rushes through, just as quick, making way for another. She presses a hand over her clit, hissing at the overstimulation.
"–—shhhiiiiiit!" Her quaking frame almost hits the ground as she cums again. His big hands hold her up, continuing to dig into her.
"Okay, baby!..... I can't take it— fuck!, ooh!, ooh!, ooh!...." replaying like a broken record, she squeezes against him. He moans in response, stilling for a second.
"You can't handle it, huh?"
"You're killing me, baby... I need a break—" pulling her up from the bed, he presses her against the wall and wraps his hand around the front of her throat.
"You don't deserve a fuckin' break.," the venom in his speech makes her thighs clench around him. "You gon' take all this dick, you understand me?"
"Yes, Daddy,." The lust in her eyes doubles for him. She grabs the back of his head and smashes their lips together, moaning as he grips her fat ass with both hands.
Reaching between them with her free hand, she guides the head of his dick back between her slit, her mouth dropping open as he slides back inside.
"All that shit,..." he reminds her, digging as deep as possible.
"Oh shit...,—it feels so good, baby!" She wraps her arms around his neck and hides her face.
"Shit... you test my patience... all the fucking time.," he growls in her ear, causing a smile to break out on her lips.
"Only, because you let me." Laying her head back on the wall, she stares at him, biting down on her lip at the way his muscles flex.
"I got you that spoiled, huh?" He asks. She nods, closing her eyes as the pleasure begins to slowly build.
"Yes, baby." Pulling her away from the wall, he lays her back on the bed, beginning to move against her, like a serpent. Her hands latch onto his back.
"Oh!," her lips part, her moans swallowed in his many kisses. "Fuck, baby!"
"You feel me, girl?" He grunts against her lips.
"Yes... I feel youuuu!"
"You want this nut, babygirl?"
"Yesss, gimme that nut....," lifting her legs up, she grips the back of her thighs, giving him the leverage he needs.
"Unh,.... such a fucking brat." His hands fall above hers, gripping her flesh as he drives into her, madly.
"Fuck meeee!," she moans, digging her nails into his thighs.
His deep moans multiply as he gets closer, the muscles is his back working overtime, flexing underneath the streetlights outside her window.
"Shit!, I'ma bust all in this shit, you hear me?"
"Yes baby!," she screeches, clenching around him.
"Ah shit... uh! Fuck.... mmmm!," his pounding comes to an abrupt stop as his orgasm rushes through him. His head lolls back at the feeling.

Favorite Shirt
Okay time to post again. Slight warnings, mention of death, toxic relationship, slight emotional abuse.
Word count ~2.9k
"Tch, I guess it’s about time I clean my desk. I can't work with all of this crap on it." Jotaro annoyedly says.
While cleaning off the countless stacks of paper he pauses. All desire to clean is quickly knocked out of him. He sits back down in his desk chair holding the group picture you all took in Egypt. He glances over each face in the image, some happy memories, some not so much. He would give anything to go back in time to change the way things played out. So many stupid mistakes. His eyes immediately halt when he gets to yours. His face expressed sorrow and longing.
His favorite memories of the two of you start to come rushing back to his head, and for a moment, he smiles. The constant flirting that always occured between the two of you. The silent stares you each felt from one another. No matter how much the others teased you two, you still weren't sure if admitting your feelings was the best idea. You each had your own reasons for keeping distant. The mission was much more important anyway, and so was your friendship.
He recalls one of his favorite memories with you.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It had been a long week of tiresome stand battles, the closer you got to Egypt, the more intense they became. He noticed this was taking quite the toll on you and made the gang find a hotel that night so you could get some much needed rest. In the meantime he suggested that you use him as a pillow in the car on the way there.
Honestly, you took him up on the offer. You took everything you could at the time knowing that it would never go any further no matter how bad you wanted it to. Your head rested on his large chest, which was surprisingly soft for how tough he was. Every now and then he'd tug on his hat to cover his face when in fact he was just trying to steal a few glances at your peaceful, resting figure.
"Alright, we're here, group up and we'll get going into our rooms," Joseph states.
"I ca-"
"She's staying with me. There's no discussing it." Jotaro then picks you up and carries you to your room.
You started to wake up from the movements and the background noise going on in the hotel, and the first thing you saw was Jotaro's face when you opened your
eyes.
"Clearly I must be dreaming," you thought.
"Look who decided to wake up." he scoffed at you. "Really left it up to me to carry you all the way up here."
"I'm so sorry! I won't let it-"
"That's enough. I was just kidding anyway. You fought really hard today, it's the least I could do."
You smiled back at him as he set you down on the bed. That was honestly all the thanks he needed.
"Anyway, I'm going to go get something to eat, I'll bring something back for you if you want, but you should probably get some real rest soon."
You began to crawl up into the bed in your dirty and torn clothes from the day you just had.
"Good grief, what do you think you're doing? You're really going to sleep in a nice clean bed in your dirty clothes??"
"Well, I don't really have any clean clothes left right now, so, unless you have a better ide-"
You were quickly cut off with a soft hit to the face. Jotaro threw one of his clean shirts at you.
"Here. You can use this. It'll be more comfortable anyway."
Jotaro had left to go pick up some food and when he came back he was greeted with his favorite shirt filled with his favorite person. Wearing only that shirt made you look much smaller than you actually were, it practically went down to your knees.
"Thanks Jotaro! I promise I'll get it back to you as soon as I can."
"Keep it. It looks better on you anyway." He cooly tried to say as he pulled his hat down over his eyes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After everything that had happened in Egypt, you just wanted to get away from it all for a while. Go out on your own to a new place with no reminder of the loved ones you lost and all the feelings you never acted on. As a thank you for your hard work, the SpeedWagon Foundation offered to pay for everything of whatever you decided to do. You thought maybe you'd try going to school in America for a while. It was great, you had all the experiences you grew up seeing in movies and on TV. You made plenty of new friends there and even dipped your toes in the dating pool.
Right after you finished school, you and your boyfriend got married. You thought that's what you ought to do, you've been with him for so long. Everyone thought you were the perfect couple. He always took you out on extravagant dates and bought you expensive jewelry. Every girl wanted to be you. But that was only because they didn't know what happened behind closed doors. He never physically hurt you, not many people could, I mean you could hold your
own in Egypt, you're pretty tough, but mentally, he knew you were weak. You would confide in him in the beginning of your relationship about all your friends back home that you missed. He never let you call home or talk to them either. The ones you could never see again. Everytime he wanted you to hurt he would just remind you that they were dead because you weren't there for them, you weren't strong enough to save them. Countless letters came in from your friends and family and he'd throw them away before you could see them. He would even tell you that no one was writing to you anymore.
Every now and then you manage to chat with Jotaro. He'd call you on your lunch break at work from time to time just to play catch up. Asking things like 'how's life?' and 'are you doing okay?' and the sort of thing. Everytime you told him you were doing great. You love your husband and you even try to brag about how well he treats you by describing all the luxurious gifts he's been buying you. Everytime Jotaro ended the call saying he was happy for you and then a
quick update on his life.
To be honest, Jotaro wasn't falling for your phone calls. He knew something was wrong, but he never knew how bad it really was. He thought it was strange that you never wrote to him or called him outside of your work hours. It was also strange how you never really went into depth about your personal life either.
One fateful day, you're having a routine call with Jotaro when your husband decided to stop by to take you out to lunch. He asked the secretary why your door was closed to which she simply responded, "Oh, she's talking to her childhood friend Jotaro! He usually calls about this time every week."
He walks into your office catching you off guard while you're still on the phone. The shock alone causes you to drop the phone with a quiet screech.
"Y/n, are you there?" Jotaro stays on the line worried about what he just heard.
Your husband shuts your office door leaving just the two of you in there and is yelling just loud enough to where your coworkers can't hear him.
"I thought I told you no one wanted to talk to you anymore? They're all fed up with you, can't believe you let your friends die back in Egypt. They'll never
forgive you for that."
"You're right I'm sorry just please don't do this here."
"What makes you think you can tell *me* what to do? That's not how this works. And who gave you permission to talk to other guys? There's going to be some serious consequences for this when you come home." He walks out of your office smiling at all of your coworkers like nothing had just happened, followed by a shut of your office door and your muffled cries.
"Y/n?? Are you still there? Are you okay? Did he hurt you?"
"Wh- what did you hear?" You managed to squeak out, choking back tears.
"I heard enough y/n, he's not a good guy. I knew something was wrong. We have to get you out of there."
"No. This is my life now. I don't need your help, I told you I'm perfectly fine."
"Y/n I'm not kidding, you have to get out of there *now* and I won't take no for an answer."
"I can't, okay! I have nowhere to go. No one would believe me if I said the things he's done to me. Anyone who I try to run to just rats me out to him and the situation gets worse."
"Y/n, go pack your most essential things while he's out of the house. I'm buying you a ticket home for tonight. You'll be safe here this time tomorrow."
The instant care Jotaro had just shown you only causes you to cry more. How could you let yourself get like this? You really weren't okay. You were just too headstrong to admit anything was wrong.
"Thank you." You were able to muster through even more tears.
After picking yourself up off the floor and drying your face, you left your office, no intention to come back. You rushed home to grab only your essential items while your husband was finishing his day at work. You grabbed a few sets of clothing, your toothbrush, hair and makeup accessories, a few pairs of shoes, and your folder of important documents. Everything else was replaceable and or retrievable at a later date.
You take a deep breath and get the courage to call a ride to the airport.
Free from your husband's control, you weren't scared to text or call Jotaro on your own phone now. You called him letting him know that you were on your way.
One short plane ride across the ocean later and Jotaro was waiting there for you to take you home. You're not sure how long he was there for but you're convinced he was waiting there since before you even took off.
"Y/n, over here." He waves you over.
You walk over shyly and ashamed of what he had witnessed just the day before. You couldn't even pick your head up enough to look him in the eyes.
"Y/n it's okay now. You're here with me, he can't get to you right now."
"Ye- yeah I guess you're right. So where do I go now?"
"C'mon, I'll take you back to my place."
"We're stopping there before the hotel?"
"I'm not letting you stay alone right now. You're staying with me at my house. The only reason I let you fly alone was because it got you out of there faster."
Jotaro takes your bag and you both head to the taxi.
"C'mon short stuff, get those legs movin' faster."
"Hey! Not everyone can be freakishly tall."
Jotaro raises one eyebrow, "So I'm a freak, aye?"
"Sorr-"
"Don't apologize, you're already more vocal when you're free around here. I like it."
The taxi drops you two off at his house. The drive felt like an eternity when in reality it was only a few short minutes. You stared out the car door window in awe.
*So this is what he's been up to this whole time*
"Well c'mon now, let's get inside."
You quickly follow after him like a lost puppy.
"There's a spare bedroom upstairs and down the hall, why don't you take this time to relax and freshen up while I make us something to eat?"
"You really don't have to do this for me Jotaro, but I appreciate it."
You head upstairs with your bag. It really was a long flight. You decide to take a quick shower and put on some clean clothes.
About an hour goes by when Jotaro comes by your room to collect you.
"Dinners ready y/n."
"Okay, I'll be right out, I just have to put some makeup on first."
"Uhh, what for? We're not going out anywhere."
"I don't know. I just always do. He always made me wear makeup, even at the house, I guess I'm just used to it."
Jotaro quickly turns around and starts heading towards the kitchen, but not without leaving a remark, "well don't. You look better without it anyway."
You follow soon after him with a fresh blank face. The table has already been set beautifully and you can already smell your favorite dish. He brings over two plates of food followed by a new bottle of wine.
"Why don't we catch up for real this time?" He asks.
Hours go by at the dinner table along with a few bottles of wine. The two of you bickering just like the old days. You missed this. You needed this.
You finally caught a glimpse of the time and stood up to help clean up the table.
"You don't need to help clean this up y/n. We can even clean it up tomorrow. Why don't we go talk in the living room for a bit longer?"
You move forward as an attempt to get to the couch, finally realizing how much you actually drank, you're quite tipsy in fact. Jotaro moves over to the couch to join you. Sitting side by side he grabs your hand with a guilty look on his face.
"Y/n, I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's all my fault."
Clearly he's a bit tipsy too if he's actually trying to admit being at fault right now.
"None of this is your fault Jotaro, what are you going on about?"
"If I was just straight with you when we were younger. If I actually had the courage to say something to you. Maybe you would have stayed. Maybe you would've ended up with me instead. Instead I thought you were too good for me."
Your eyes start to swell up. "Don't say that. Ever. I'm the one that's not good enough for you. Why would you ever want someone like me?"
"Well, you're you, that's why. You're strong, you held your own in the desert, you tried your hardest for us and you made it out. I've never met anyone as strong as you, and to know that someone took advantage of you? And I wasn't there to protect you? I'm so sorry for all of it."
Now full on ugly crying again, Jotaro wraps his arms around you and pulls you in for a hug.
"I'm so sorry Jotaro. Can you forgive me?"
He lifts up your crying head by your chin and brushes all your loose pieces of hair out of your face. He holds you here until you return the look into his deep aqua eyes. He moves forward, crashing his lips into yours. There was no hesitation on your end, you kissed him back just as hungrily. Neither of you needed words to figure out what the other one was thinking. You could feel the admittance of your love for each other from just that embrace. Jotaro pulls back and pushes your head into his chest so he can hold you once again. He pats your head.
"It's all okay now, I'm sorry it took this long," and he leaves a kiss on the top of your head.
The moment is only ended by your yawning since you've been up for lord knows how long. Jotaro picks you up and carries you in his arms to his room. He notices the slight confusion in your face.
"I was thinking maybe you sleep in here with me tonight, kinda like old times?"
"Okay, just let me go change into my pajamas. I don't want to get in the nice clean bed in my dirty clothes.".
You walk back into his room in just his old t-shirt you kept from the desert.
"You really kept that old thing?" He spouted.
"I really did. It's how I kept you close that whole time I was gone." You said with an embarrassed smile.
"It really does look better on you ya know?" He says through a full face of blush. Just seeing you again in that shirt made him think of all the things he wanted to do to you now and then.
You moved to go lay down alongside Jotaro in his massive bed. He always wanted to know what it'd be like to hold you in his arms in his own bed.
Jotaro pulls you into his chest to hold you tight, with no intention of letting you go. He places a delicate kiss on your cheek. You squeeze his hand as a subtle sign of acceptance and nuzzle into his broad figure.
“Goodnight y/n. Sleep tight.”

omg not to be a little bitch but.... id genuinwly love to hear you talk more about that werewolf au if you feel like doing it 🙏 please dont hold back.
i can also just imagine how much of a petty bitch arthur would be knowing that his brother came to him for help and hes depending on his knowledge, and even if he acts annoyed about it and like hes being a nuisance hes still very pleased knowing the bastard has to eat his pride and ask for arthurs help lmao
im sorry im just. brainrot 😩😩
i would love to talk more about it!! Thank you for indulging me xxxxx
--
So, I have thought long and hard about the specifics of Scotland being turned and the general gist of it is this: although in this AU he does have a measure of magical sensibility, his talents are rooted in nature. Drawn from damp, dark earth; peat and smoke. He paints a lonesome figure, near estranged from his past keeping to himself for the most part.
The wolf gets him when he is, of all things, gathering mushrooms. It goes straight for the throat, and leaves him for dead; but rather than die, Al digs his fingers deep into the rotting leaves of the forest floor and lives.
Then he wakes, covered in mud and blood and stinking of wet dog, and the first thing he thinks is oh, fuck.
Arthur was the first to live the house where they all grew up together— the four of them, later five; then only Daffy (Wales) left behind to guard the old mansion where they were all raised. And the first thing Arthur did was this: build a sturdy door and a high fence to between his home and the world. Metaphorically; or at least the fence is, the door is very much there. He runs an apothecary/rare artefact/all-around curio shop and lives in flat stacked right above it. Keeps a small garden out back and a well secured cellar (that will come in handy in a second), and has put away his ambitions and wanderlust to sit still for a moment and catch his breath. He will come and go, to source his stock and scratch the itch to dip his toes in faraway seas, but he rather does enjoy being a grouchy, lonesome shopkeep. The one person he sees most, beside the cast that cycle in and out of the shop— bell ringing over the door, /how do you do, mistletoe and myrtle tincture? Why yes of course, right over there, next to the eye of newt/— is Francis. Francis who is an absurdly powerful necromancer who runs the flower shop and herbarium across the street. Won’t find fresher wares then his! And his cooking is to die for, would you believe?
So what happens next is this: Arthur is pulling up weeds in the back, cursing Francis under his breath because surely it was him who blew the sunflower seeds into his vegetable patch, when Alasdair— estranged, longed for, vexing Alasdair— stumbles past the magic wards that line his property like they’re barely a bother. Alasdair gets out a rough “Lad,” then a wheeze, and face-plants right atop the rhubarb.
Arthur watches it happen with a look like a twit, the knees of his trousers soaked through with spring damp-earth, and in true familiar fashion thinks oh, fuck.
What follows is indeed very much a tug of war between them as they both struggle to find their footing and come to terms with the situation— and each other. Arthur does struggle at first, torn between past resentment and the growing realisation that he wants to be what Alasdair needs. And the same hold true for Scotland, who quickly realises that the Arthur is not-quite who he expected him to be— still infuriating, still himself only…
Forces of nature, the both of them. And a storm brewing between them with every passing day. Francis watches them circle each other with a kind of amused exasperation and wonders who will bite (ha!) first.
Now for the heat and turning… transformation, of all kinds, comes at a price. And it hurts. In this as much as with anything else. They’re both expecting the crack of bone, the ferocity of it, but they’re not quite ready for the drawn-out length of it. The spasms that seize up Alasdair’s body and bring him to his knees for hours before the night is even truly dark. Arthur doesn’t have the time to source anything better for the first time, so they make due with heavy iron chains and wards carved deep into the floor of the cellar.
The first full moon is a horror. It is also breathtaking. The restraints are barely enough against the awesome strength of wolf. Arthur watches him strain against them; watches him pant into the improvised muzzle that Alasdair insisted on when Arthur refused to leave him, and feels a quiet sort of awe. Torn between fear and an emotion he can’t quite articulate. Keeping his distance, both feet firmly on the ground where he sits on the second to last step in case he needs to bolt upstairs, all he can think about as the sun comes up and steals a sigh from Alasdair lungs is how it would feel to press a hand against the wolf’s chest. How hard Alasdair’s heart might thunder against him. How heated his skin. How rough the coarse fur of his scruff. He has little time to think of anything more before he has to move again, reaching for Alasdair to hold him up.
Coming down from the transformation is not unlike an Olympic marathon. Arthur is too busy trying to keep Alasdair’s pulse steady and pouring electrolytes down his throat to spare any more thoughts for the pounding in his own chest.
(One thing Alasdair soon realises after he is bitten is this: that his senses are ever heightened. More so after a shift. Arthur is helping him stumble his way up the stirs when he breathes him in and thinks oh. Just oh, and something in his chest clicks; turns upside down. Arthur is his brother; isn't, never was and always will be. He smells like sweat and fear. Smells of ink and herbs. Smells of worry. Smells of lust. Smells like Alasdair now that they are pressed close together. He’s become Alasdair’s home, precariously. Safe haven, safeguard; his throat is bare and now…)
When the next full moon comes, Alasdair gets loose.

Hitoshi takes his chances, in dire need of a snack, to creep out of his hiding space with the intention of sneaking down to the cafeteria for his aforementioned much needed snack. Peering around the corner, he glances down one end of the hall, then up the other end, and upon spotting no one, he turns the corner, creeping down the hall as silently as he can muster, he listens to his foot steps echo softly.
Then he pauses.
The footsteps do not.
“Funny how I’m not moving and footsteps are still echoing down the hall.”
The footsteps stop.
“Funny, isn’t it?” Hitoshi, willingly, admits, that he did scream at the voice that whispers in his ear. “I knew you’d be here.”
He tries to make a break for it, and finds himself being swept up off his feet by a flurry of red feathers, dangled upside down by his ankles. “No! NO! Kei! NO!” The purple haired teen struggles, dangling upside down, when he feels his right shoe being untied and pulled off. “KEI! Please! PLEASE! No! Not there! Find something else to do!”
“There isn’t anything else I want to do.” The hero calls back kindly as he slowly pulls his sock off. “I wanna do this.”
Hitoshi pleads when he feels a feather thread between his last two toes. “NO! No! Wait you don’t have to do this! Kei, you don’t wanna do this! Please! I’m not above begging!”
“You can beg all you want.” The teen squeals when the feather starts moving, his struggles renewing full force, wiggling his toes frantically. “And, trust me, I definitely want to do this.”
Izuku thinks he’s in the clear, having taken to the vents, crawling around as silently as he can, listening closely for any inkling that he’s found bird dad or bird dad has found him.
Leaning over a vent grate, he curls a hand over his mouth when he sees the familiar blonde head of his boss standing directly below him, doing something on his phone silently. The greenette turns when he hears a fluttering sound, and his eyes widen, as he’s overcome by a wave of feathers, they slide up under his shirt, and he squeals, curling his arms around himself, as the feathers flutter over his belly and sides, falling through the vent grate, he squeals again when he’s caught, cradled in a pair of arms, the feathers still fluttering.
“Look at what I found.”
“Nohohohoohoo!” The teen squeals when a feather dips into his belly button. “Nohohot theheheheheere! Nohohohot thehehehehehere! Pleheheheheheease!”

Death by a thousand cuts
I have been thinking about writing this for months now. Even before I decided to quit the residency at my previous job.
COVID has been kicking our ass, true, but that was (is) true for most healthcare providers all around the world.
No, my struggle started a bit before that actually.
First some background, I have been working at one of the biggest most famous ID clinics in central Europe. The clinic is in a different country than I am originally from so there was a bit of cultural accommodating at the begging. But we were a big group of ID interns/residents/fellows and specialists.
I don't actually remember that much from my first year working there. And I couldn't figure out why, but then I read in some study that when u experience a high dose of stress and/or sleep deprivation for a long time, your brain kinda stopps being able to transcribe short term memory into a long term.
I was working 100hours/week, sometimes less, sometimes more. After a year and a half, when the last half I worked in the ID ER for five months, I always stayed after working 24 hours, sometimes over 36hours, and I would see and treat 70ish patients. Nobody from the older docs would help me out, nobody from other interns either bc usually they would have their own kind of hell to take care of.
The fact that basically, inexperienced doctors are taking care of patients never really phased my ex-boss. Her mantra was that if there was a problem that you cannot resolve, you can call her and she would advise you. Which most of the time was true, I must say that.
But we all have been young docs, barely out of our medical school garments, and sometimes as it happened, we could not recognize there IS a problem that maybe needs a more experienced opinion.
I am often confronted with this idea or more like a culture, of pretending that once you are an MD you don't need help and asking for it is a kind of weakness and that then you are forever on the list of WEAKLINGS.
And let me say this only once.
That's absolute bullshit.
Anyway, the first time I decided to quit I worked there for about a year and a half, I went for a long-expected holiday, I took three weeks off, had interviews and talked with my bf about my options.
Second thing...my man, bless his beard, would support me no matter what. He is almost 10 years older than me, so he has more work experience and I find it reassuring to discuss stuff like this with him bc I know he will not sugarcoat it. He said that I should dig my heels in and last at least one more year till the end of my "internship". As a "resident" who worked at this specific department, I wouldn't have a problem finding another job. We r basically the equivalent of a french legion of medical professionals (when u work in this specific department and everyone knows it, I will come back to that later).
So I took his advice. Thankfully as a part of our training, one of those parts is a year-long internship at the internal medicine department, which I did shortly after we had that conversation and guys, that was a revelation of how medicine and just...work and life can be experienced. There were enough docs for a floor, an attending who had the time to manage and advise us. I´ve grown that year as a doc so much. Other internships were mandatory so I could have become (equivalent of) a resident, and it was a general surgery, anesthesiology, radiology, microbiology etc. But I did them all and became a resident.
The moment I came back to our clinic, my boss would put me in our outpatient department. Which I have never worked on before. The head of the department has quit a few months before, and I had no idea what to do there, bc it's a very different type work. The only thing my boss told me when I spoke of my concerns were "you will learn".
Thankfully the previous head of the department was a good friend of mine and she would always answer my questions and requests. Suddenly I no longer had to deal with the hectic life of an ID floor or ER, no sepsis, meningitis, etc.
Most of my patients were the chronic type...Lyme, chlamydia, mycoplasma... let's say it literally drained the life out of me. But I managed. Also, I started to work for their outpatient office which takes care of patients with chronic hepatatis. That I enjoyed more.
I also started to dip my toes in vaccinology, either planned like for travel but I started to be more interested in preventive care in the immunocompromised and my own phantasmagoria was to make a palliative care team in our hospital. Bc, we had none. And then a wonderful thing happened, other docs, older experienced, great at their work, started to refer their patients to me specifically.
There were more examples of the utter a complete FUCK U(s) which were kindly provided either by the system or by the head of the department or the hospital.
Then covid hit and the shit hit the interstellar space.
I still can't make myself remember the first few months bc it actually causes me to go into a rage fit, and honestly, I am done with that kind of negativity.
I hold out for a year. Year of such shitty treatment from the chief and our hospital head. No thank you- s or you are doing a good job or we r all on the same ship.
No.
People will say that I quit bc of the money. And that's not true, tho it did irk me a bit. All the other ID specialists working at different hospitals would get covid bonuses every month. We got jack shit. Again, the best biggest most know ID clinic. We were the first and oftern the ONLY ones who would test for/diagnose/hospitalize/treat a patient who had covid FOR MONTHS in the beginning.
I mean, the medical community is small, the ID community even smaller so yes, we were able to compare and contrast the work at different ID departments in other hospitals bc our friends worked there. And all of them would go speechless when they would hear from us what we were living thru.
At one point at the beginning of the pandemic, ALL the ambulances would go thru our ER department and we were supposed to decide where the patient should go.
AN EXAMPLE
Ambulance with a woman who has known colon cancer, had a fever, stomach as a rock and is projectile vomiting. I was supposed to decide where she should go and the surgeon would be super pissed when I said that I don't think she has COVID but without PCR I can't be sure but I think there is a bigger pressing issue. I remember him saying:
"well if anyone else gets infected at our department and dies, it's on you."
fun.
There were other examples of seriously stressful episodes which I and my coworkers lived thru, for which we were not trained for, advised, or properly supervised. At a certain point, I started to take anxiolytics before and during my all-nighters bc I didn't know what I would do with all that stress which was so callously shat on me and my coworkers.
For a few months, I stopped working nights, only thru the mercy of my coworkers who saw how exhausted I was and would take my shifts.
Anyway, after only two months I had to start working nights bc I needed the money. The basic pay for docs was just not enough without the extra from night shifts. Talk about exploiting.
The moment however when I decided to QUIT, when I was DONE, when I actually heard my heart break, was the moment at the end of the previous year. They decided to start vaccinating in our tiny small vaccination centre. Let's say a "shit storm" brewing is the light version of events that ensued.
But basically, as I was trying to discuss with my boss that we are all exhausted, that this wave is not slowing down and that throwing more work at us, the docs and nurses and other staff, who are overworked, is not a good idea,
What she basically said to me is that who says things like that is lazy and that if she can handle it everyone must be also.
The thing is..most of us were at the bring. Some would handle it with casual and calous sex, drugs (legal or not), a bottle of wine before sleep. A coworker ended up with antipsychotics.
But u know,
we were all lazy apperently.
I realized there is no way out of this other than quitting. I could not continue being so tired and sad all the time. I took two weeks off, really thought about it. Had diarrhoea and nausea for a week as I realized I will have to quit :D
On a Monday I came back, handed in my notice. Basically what she told me and how she reacted made me realized how right the decision was.
I had to stay there for another three months bc that's the law, but my mood changed significantly.
I got another job in a smaller ID department, working with amazingly kind people, but that's another story.
But that was the only interview I actually looked for and did. I, however, did get several job offers from different types of medicine. From heads of different departments in my old hospital to smaller general medicine chain offices who are looking for ID specialists, to insurance companies.
Like I said, french legion.
Or Runway and your boss is Miranda Pristley. Once u survive that, u survive anything.
But at my old work they would keep hitting you with wave after wave of passive agressive comments about how if u quit, u wont be able to find anything as"prestigious" as this.
There were many other exmaples of a shitty and questionable situations which were treated as "normal" but there is not point on getting on that rage train.
Contrary as it might seem, I am greatful I got to live thru this, good and bad, bc now I know what I am and am not willing to sacrifice for a job. No matter how much I might love it.

Disclaimer: I'm sure there are some medical inaccuracies here, everything I know comes from google, whump tumblr blogs, and my embarrassing obsession with medical dramas. I also have no knowledge of the US medical system aside from what I know from the aforementioned sources so excuse any issues there.
Spencer doesn’t think anything of it when he leaves work at his usual time, the clock pushing midnight and the offices deserted. He packs his few personal belongings up and turns off his lamp before nodding to the janitor, the only other person to be seen, and taking the elevator down to the ground floor where there’s a little more sign of human life at least.
As soon as he steps out into the crisp winter air, he feels the exhaustion of working close to 18 hours straight on far too little sleep hit him. They haven’t even been working a case, he just gets so caught up in his reports and consults that he doesn’t notice the hours whizzing by until he looks up and the bullpen is deserted, dark except for his desk lamp.
Inevitably when spending the day at the office dealing with banalities, he finds something that captures his interest. It tends to send him on a trawl through the internet — or, occasionally, to another part of the building — looking it up in every journal he buys a subscription to until that itch is scratched.
The others always gently touch his shoulder or call out to him as they leave, which he tends to hear about 50% of the time, and Hotch especially tries to make him leave at a more sensible time, but he can’t help the way his brain works. Once it latches onto something it’s not letting go until it’s satisfied.
His feet carry him to the Metro station while his brain absently thinks over his most recent fixation, and soon enough he’s at his stop and back in DC. The streets are slightly more lively in the city, and the noise and light snap him back to reality enough to remind him of his bone-deep fatigue. He usually walks down the main streets to get to his apartment building, occasionally catching a bus if he’s earlier than usual or a cab if he’s later, but tonight he’s just longing for a quick microwave meal, a shower, and his bed. So, he dips down an alleyway and takes the shortcut home.
It’s stupid.
He knows pretty much every statistic there is to know about his city, and at the forefront of his brain are those concerning crime. DC has one of the highest crime rates in America, and a person’s chances of being a victim is 1 in 18, and although it’s slightly lower in Adams Morgan which is one of the safest, violent crimes are still 36% higher than the national average. This is decidedly increased when you take stupid risks like walking through the backstreets in the dead of night when you’re on your own.
Sadly, this does not occur to Spencer before he’s deep in the back streets of the city, being slammed ruthlessly against a wall by two men he didn’t see coming.
He’s winded immediately, and before his brain can catch up with what’s happening, a knife is being held dangerously close to his neck. All his self-defence training, all the moves Derek had spent hours teaching him when he’d first joined the BAU fly out the window and he can only breathe heavily with what he knows must be a terrified expression on his face.
“Well, well, well,” the man holding the knife leers, his arid breath hitting Spencer’s face, “look what we have here.”
The other man doesn’t speak. He’s stood slightly further back, arms crossed as he stares Spencer down. Although he’s physically the lesser threat right now, something about him has ice pooling in Spencer’s stomach.
“Here’s what’s gonna happen, you fucking pansy,” he continues, pushing Spencer further into the wall, pain blossoming across his body, “you’re gonna let us look through your gay ass purse, and we’re gonna take whatever we want from it. And then, you’re gonna let Paulie here do whatever he wants to you. He’s had a real bad day, and a pathetic little queer like you is just the punching bag he needs, you hear me?”
It’s all Spencer can do to nod his head frantically. He wants to open his mouth, to negotiate, to talk them down, but this is nothing like when he’s faced with the FBI’s most wanted. He’s in control there, he’s on his turf, his playing field, it’s  his game and he knows every rule, every bylaw, every exception.
Right now, he’s completely at these men’s mercy.
“Paulie, take his bag.” The man doesn’t take his eyes off Spencer’s face, scanning his expression and body language for any sign he’s about to bolt, for any reason to put his knife to work.
He tries to calm himself down a little, enough to catch his breath at least. He’s taken countless beatings throughout his life, he knows how to survive, just… please, don’t let it be anything more. It’s all Spencer dares to hope for.
The other man steps forward and snatches his messenger bag, unceremoniously dumping the contents of his bag on the pavement. Spencer’s just grateful that he doesn’t have anything in there that hints towards his career. He knows this type: they’re intimidating but they’re easily scared. Right now, he’s a weak twenty-something on his way home, he’s not a threat to them, but who knows what they’d do to him if they realised he’s a fed?
They take his wallet and his phone before they rummage through his pockets to find some spare cash. His badge is tucked in an inner pocket in his blazer and his Quantico ID is still hanging around his neck, hidden under his scarf, blazer, and thin overcoat; he’s so glad he never took it off.
An icy tear drips down his face as he stands there, pressed against the wall, awaiting his fate. All he wants right now is to be back at home. No, that’s not right. All he wants right now is  Hotch. As soon as the thought of his father-figure crosses his mind, the tears start flowing faster, desperate to feel safe again, knowing Hotch is the only person to really let him feel that way.
The man holding the knife has turned to watch Paulie sift through his bag and rummage through his pockets, but as soon as his steely grey eyes return to Spencer’s face, his face splits into a shit-eating grin. “Aw, are you crying?” he mocks, starting to laugh. “Are the big bad men making you feel scared? You gonna run home to Mommy?”
He knows that it’s exactly what the man wants, but he can’t stop the tears from devolving into full-blown sobs at his words. The whole terrifying experience, the implications, the realisations of what might be coming for him in the next few minutes start to catch up to him and he’s violently shaking as he cries uncontrollably.
“You’re pathetic,” the man spits, releasing his grip on him slightly, letting Spencer’s shaky legs collapse under him and send him crashing towards the ground. “He’s all yours, Paulie. I’m gonna enjoy this.”
His position is quickly taken over by Paulie as the other man leans against a dumpster close by to watch the show, and Spencer looks up at the intimidating man with fear blazing in his eyes as he hangs in purgatory, knowing the hell that’s about to rain down on him.
Paulie doesn’t take long to get started and he doesn’t hold back, his sturdy, black boots kicking him relentlessly in the stomach and his thighs before moving up to his chest, slamming the toe of his boots into each individual rib. Spencer can hear the other man laughing maniacally over the sound of his own bones breaking, over his own choked pleas for mercy, but it’s like Paulie doesn’t hear either of them. His face is blank as he gives Spencer the beating of his life, and it only makes him more terrifying.
He quickly gets bored of kicking Spencer and bends down to yank him up by his scarf, only to land a hard, brutal punch on his jaw, then his cheek, then his nose before dropping him down again, this time so his back is vulnerable, at the mercy of Paulie’s cruel feet.
The torture continues for a few more minutes, and Spencer doesn’t know how no-one hears his desperate cries, but they’re left alone in the alley as he coughs up blood and feels his bones break under the tread of Paulie’s boots. He’s deprived of air as his chest is stood on, as his windpipe is crushed, but finally,  finally it’s over.
“I’m bored,” Paulie grunts, giving Spencer one last brutal kick to the base of his back before walking over to the other man. They both saunter off down the alleyway, not casting a single look back at Spencer lying curled up on the ground, surrounded by his own blood.
Soon, the men have left, and he’s alone with only his ragged, painful breaths for company. He can hear the hoots of a bachelor party just a street over, but no-one’s coming to save him. No-one else is stupid enough to venture down the backstreets of DC. Not with crime rates like those of their city. Not in the small hours of the morning. Not alone.
He doesn’t even have his phone to call for help.
⭐️
Hotch expects it to be work when he picks up the phone at 3am. By the time he’s sat up in bed and sliding the bar on his phone to answer it, he’s already half in work-mode, ready to call Jessica and drive Jack over before racing into work to beat the others on the team. He can already taste his first coffee of the day.
“Hello, is this Aaron Hotchner?”
It isn’t work.
“Uh, yes,” he says hesitantly, shifting upright a little further, sleep-addled mind trying to guess who the caller could possibly be, “speaking.”
“Hi, my name is Mary Kutner, I’m calling from George Washington University Hospital. I have you down as Spencer Reid’s emergency contact, is that correct?”
Hotch’s heart plummets, and he leaps out of bed immediately, ready to get dressed as the shock wakes him up. “That’s correct. What’s happened?”
“I’m afraid I can’t divulge much information over the phone, sir, but we’ll need you to come to the hospital urgently.”
He isn’t usually an emotional person, but he can feel tears springing to his eyes already. Spencer is a surrogate son to him, and knowing he’s hurt without knowing what he can actually do about it is an atrocious feeling.  Please don’t let me watch another member of my family die, is all he can think as he tries to gain enough composure to reply to the nurse on the other end of the line.
“Can you tell me his condition?” he asks, somehow managing to get the words past the lump in his throat.
“He’s currently in theatre, sir,” Mary replies as gently as one can in such a professional tone. “If you come down to the hospital and report to the ER a doctor will be able to tell you more. I’ll need you to bring identification with you, please.”
“Okay,” he breathes, trying to keep as calm as possible, “okay. Thank you for letting me know. I’ll be right there.”
He throws the phone on the bed as he finishes throwing his clothes on. He packs two bags: one for him (mostly filled with things Spencer might need) and one for Jack, pulls on his coat and shoes before creeping into his son’s room and lifting him out of bed gently, carrying him down to the car.
Jack is a heavy sleeper — he frequently wakes up the next morning tucked in his room at Jessica’s, sometimes in the car on the way — and he’s endlessly thankful for that now. Explaining why he’s dashing out of the flat with a panicked look on his face to a seven-year-old is a conversation he’s glad to avoid.
He rings Jessica on the way who, used to his early morning calls waking her up, has no problem with looking after Jack.
Somehow, he manages to make it to the hospital only forty-five minutes later, and he didn’t even have to park illegally. Thank God the hospital is at least a little quieter in the dead of night.
“Hi, I’m Aaron Hotchner, Spencer Reid’s emergency contact,” he explains shakily to the woman at the front desk, laying down his FBI identification bag down as ID. He could use his driving licence, sure, but… if knowing they’re FBI agents will make any difference to Spencer’s care then he doesn’t give a damn if this could be construed in some way as abuse of his position. He’d rather lose his job than lose his son.
“Oh, hi Agent Hotchner,” the woman says with a tone of recognition, glancing at his ID before typing something into her computer, “I’m Mary Kutner, I spoke to you on the phone. Dr Reid is still in surgery but I’ll go and find a doctor who can explain the situation to you.”
He nods absently, face stern and pinched as furious anxiety toils inside him. He feels like the last forty-five minutes have been a daze, and now the bright lights and noisy machines and bustling action of the Emergency Department at a major trauma centre are slowly snapping him out of it, the implications of ‘urgent’ and ‘surgery’ and it being the middle of the damn night finally catching up to him.
Some number of minutes pass by — he’s too anxious and caught in his head to keep track of the linear passage of time right now — before he’s approached by a young doctor, wearing a mask carefully constructed of confident professionalism and reassuring compassion.
“Agent Hotchner?” She’s clarifying uselessly, she knows it’s him. He knows she probably has to confirm for some stupid HIPAA rule, but he just wants to know what happened goddamnit.
“Yes,” he replies shortly, “what’s happened to Spencer?”
He doesn’t miss her almost perfectly concealed wince, and he feels his stomach sink further. “He was involved in an assault on his way home from work. A passer-by found him in a back road not far from the hospital and called for an ambulance. Luckily we got him into surgery quickly. Upon admission’s initial assessment, he had a ruptured spleen, a collapsed lung, a double kidney contusion, and he suffered a pelvic fracture along with multiple broken ribs, a fractured jaw and cheekbone, and several severe breaks in his left forearm, wrist, and hand.”
Hotch stares at the doctor in disbelief as she lists Spencer’s injuries: he feels like he’s going into shock. How could anyone want to hurt the sweetest person he’s ever met? How could anyone be so brutal? He’s worked with serial killers for nearly two decades and still, nothing could prepare him for this. He sits down in the seat behind him as the world spins, his brain trying to piece everything together.
“Are you alright, sir?” the doctor asks, sitting down in the seat next to him. “Do you want a glass of water?”
“What?” He turns to look at her before her words sink in and he realises what she asked. “Oh. No, I’m fine… I— is he going to be okay?” As soon as the first tear spills down his cheek, he can’t stop them from falling one after another, dripping down his face in his most public display of emotion since Haley died.
“He’s going to need a lot of care,” she reasons, “he’ll need to stay in hospital for at least a week depending on the outcome of the surgery, but we have every reason to believe he’ll make a full recovery.”
“What’s— what’s the surgery for?” He feels like he’s having an out of body experience.
“They’ll address the internal bleeding first by either fixing or removing the spleen and making sure we didn’t miss anything else on the scans. The surgeon will also assess the damage to Spencer’s kidneys and make sure they aren’t contributing to the internal bleeding. They’ll address the pelvic fractures and the collapsed lung as well. You need to understand that Spencer may need further surgery and he’ll definitely need very close monitoring over the coming weeks and months.”
“What about his broken bones?” Hotch asks. “How bad is it?”
She sighs. “They’re bad,” she admits. “The pelvic fractures are likely going to have a big impact on his mobility, and he won’t have the use of his left arm for a long time. We’re looking at a long recovery, Agent Hotchner. But we have every reason to believe that he  will eventually recover.”
She pats him comfortingly on the hand before getting up. “Someone will fetch you as soon as he’s out of surgery.”
It’s not until she’s halfway across the waiting room that he realises she never even told him her name.
It’s close to 8am by the time a surgeon walks over to him, still dressed in scrubs. There’s a smudge of blood on his shirt and Hotch winces at the knowledge that it’s Spencer’s.
“How is he?” he asks, leaping up. He doesn't want any screwing around. He just wants to know if Spencer’s going to be okay.
“He’s stable. The surgery went well. Unfortunately, we had to conduct a full splenectomy to stop his internal bleed which does put him at risk for serious infections, but otherwise, it’s good news. His kidneys will need support but should heal in a timely manner, and we were able to set the rib that punctured his lung and reinflate it, although we’re going to keep him on oxygen to be safe. His pelvis was severely fractured but we managed to reposition the displaced bone fragments and inserted a screw and metal plate to hold them together.”
“Oh, thank God,” Hotch sighs with relief. The worst, immediate threats have been dealt with, and it settles a small part of the anxiety he’s feeling.
“He’s in room 338 if you’d like to go and see him. He should be waking up shortly.”
⭐️
Wasting no time, he races up to Spencer’s floor where a nurse lets him onto the ward and leads him down to 338. He pushes the door open apprehensively, swallowing his emotion at the sight of the man he considers a son lying in a hospital bed. He’s lost count of the number of times he’s been rushed to the hospital, but it’s never been like this. It’s always after a case: Spencer knows the risks of the job, they all do, and he puts himself deliberately in harm's way for the sake of others.
This time, though… this time he was just walking home from work. This time he had no say in the matter.
His left arm is in a cast and his face is bruised and swollen, chestnut hair matted and tangled. Opening the bag he packed, he pulls out a comb and gently teases out the tangles until he can comb through the curls completely unobstructed. There are undoubtedly more knots at the back of his head, but those can wait until he’s woken up at least. It just makes him feel like he’s doing something.
It’s only when he sits down in the chair by his bed that he realises it’s Thursday morning now; he’s supposed to be at work today, they both are. No-one except Jessica knows what’s happened.
The first thing, he supposes, is to ring Strauss.
Once that’s out of the way and she knows that neither he nor Spencer will be in today and he’ll inform her of the latest updates as soon as possible, he messages Rossi. He’s the only one who will be able to remain objective enough to inform everyone, and he’s enough of a dad to the team to help manage everyone’s emotional responses.
Just as he hits send on the message, his head snaps up at Spencer’s quiet whimpering as he comes around.
“Hey, hey, Spencer,” he says as soothingly as possible, “it’s okay, I’m here. You’re in the hospital. Are you in pain?”
Spencer blinks his eyes open blearily, wearing such a pained and vulnerable expression that it goes right to Hotch’s gut. He nods in response to his question, his good hand reaching to hold Hotch’s.
“Okay, there’s a PCA pump right here, I’ll turn it up a little. Is that better?”
“Yeah,” he whispers, tears springing to his eyes. Now he’s not in as much physical pain, Hotch knows this is pure emotion, and he thinks that’s somehow worse. Spencer’s been through a horrifying physical ordeal, but the emotional recovery is going to be just as gruelling and last years. If there’s one word he’d use to describe Spencer, though, it’s resilient.
He shushes him gently, bringing a hand to his hair and caressing it lightly. “I’m here,” he repeats. “You’re safe. I won’t leave you, okay?”
Spencer nods and relaxes into his touch, eyes fluttering closed as he calms down a little.
“You rest now,” he murmurs. “I’ll be here when you wake up. Everything’s going to be okay.”
They’ll deal with the fall-out later. They’ll deal with the team coming to visit, with the paperwork for his sick leave and the frustration of government bureaucracy. They’ll manage their way through processing the trauma of what happened to him, the physical, mental, and occupational implications of the assault. They’ll stay glued at the hip while Spencer’s interviewed by the police, while doctors explain to him just how serious his injuries are.
Right now, though, Spencer will sleep and Hotch will sit by his bedside watching the rise and fall of his chest, listening to every steady beep on the heart rate monitor, searing the living breathing proof that Spencer is alive into his mind. Spencer will sleep and Hotch will cry silently over the cruelty of the world, he’ll grieve for the man he said good-bye to 12 hours earlier, knowing he’ll never quite be the same again.
Spencer will sleep and Hotch will be there, holding his hand, waiting for him to wake up again.

Summary: Yungi and their girl arrive in New York City for spring break! After a visit to central park they decide to have an evening in at their B&B, planning for the rest of the trip and relaxing. When their girl turns in early, the boys expend some energy together in the shower

Content warnings: a little discussion of insecurites, orals sex, face fucking, anal sex, shower sex, and lots of love as always.
“New York, New York!” Mingi sang as they stepped off the subway at the stop closest to their bed and breakfast. Yunho gave a snicker and she laughed, hugging him around the hips. “What?”
“You’re just cute, love,” she told him with a bright smile. “I love that you do stuff like that.” Mingi grinned, turning a little pink. Yunho took one of Mingi’s hands and she hooked a finger into one of his belt loops as they headed out of the subway station and out onto the streets of the city. They paused as Yunho checked the directions on his phone, opening the map to get their bearing and gestured in the direction they needed to head. Dragging their bags the short block and a half, they found themselves in front of the iron and glass door that was their bed and breakfast. Mingi dropped Yunho’s hand and pulled the door open, holding it open for the other two to enter before following with his own bag into the small reception area.
With no one currently at the desk, they put their bags to the side near the wood paneled desk and poked their heads around the corners of the small lobby area with a couch, an armchair, a coffee table, and a little vanity that had been repurposed to hold a few welcoming decorative items. It was nice and cozy looking, a little like a living room at someones house. Mingi scootched up behind her, petting her head and touching gently along her neck. Yunho threw his arms around Mingi from behind, lifting him up off the floor and bouncing him as they all giggled.
“Uh, can I help you?” A voice came from behind the desk.
“Yeah we are here to check in, sorry,” she said coming over towards the desk. Pulling out a piece of paper and her ID.
“Are you here with your parents?” Asked the guy behind the desk as he took the papers.
“Nope just us,” Yunho replied, hanging on Mingi’s shoulder from behind him still.
“Alright, let’s see,” he said, typing into the computer behind the counter. “Hmmm, I think there might have been a mistake in your reservation.”
“Hmm?” She said, standing on her tiptoes to try and see over the counter as if it would let her see what they were looking at.
“Well it looks like you have a room with only one bed,” his mouth pressed into a line. “We do have another room with two beds or we can also send up a cot, but that would be a little extra.”
“One bed is fine, it’s a king sized right?” She followed up.
“Yes…” he blinked at them for a second before going on with the check-in for them. “Well, here is your key. You guys are up on the third floor, room 304 towards the end of the hall.”
“Thank you,” she smiled as she took the key from him and turned to grab the handle of her bag. “Come on loves, let’s go see the room.” Yunho and Mingi followed her to the stairwell, and they walked together up the couple of flights to the third floor. They found their room at the end of the hallway to the right. She slid the plastic key into the reader and swung the door open and stepped inside. The room was a lovely space filled with a pleasing combination of bright blue and crisp white. The room wasn’t large and the space was mostly filled with the bed, but given the price and the location, it was still a very good deal. They had a window that looked out on the small side street with the entrance to the B&B, a bright tiled bathroom, an armchair, and a little desk under the TV mounted to the wall. The bed was actually a little smaller than theirs back home, but it would be fine for the days they were here over break.
Not wanting to waste time, they put their suitcases in the corner, put the key in Yunho’s wallet, and headed back downstairs. They walked out the front door and turned left to make their way down the three and a half blocks to the edge of the park. Checking Yunho’s map again, they decided to head down a block to a small entrance into the massive park. They decided to start with the area behind the Metropolitan Museum, in part because there was a chance the cherry trees might be blooming already since spring had been warm and the place called Cherry Hill seemed like a good destination for that.
They set off along the maze of paths further into the park. At first they followed the path along the back of the museum, seeing the massive extended structures that seemed to stretch so far along the edge of the park.
“Do you think we’ll be able to see everything in there in a day when we go?” Mingi asked as they walked along the modern feeling structure of glass and steel that reached into the park.
“Maybe not but I bet we can see a lot,” she commented with a smile, catching his attention by taking his hand again. He looked back at her and gave her a big smile. Yunho took her other hand, giving it a squeeze.
“Did you see that over there?” He asked, gesturing at something that seemed to be pointing up into the sky behind the line of trees across the street that was running alongside the path they were on.
“What is it?” Mingi asked, squinting at it as they continued walking.
“It looks like an obelisk,” she stated. “Want to go see what it is?” Both of the boys nodded and they started off, first crossing the road and path and sneaking onto the broad grassy lawn. The old trees there were just starting to put out their leaves making it surprisingly easy to see further into the park as they walked. The obelisk was a large object of brown stone that seemed to be just a little out of place, rising out of nowhere in the middle of a park in the city. When they got close, they could see that it seemed to actually be an ancient object that had been installed in the park, likely related to the museum nearby.
“That’s neat,” she declared, circling the base and looking up at the hieroglyphic carvings. “I really wonder what it says.”
“Maybe something like ‘Pharaoh Ramses was here, he was cool and liked pointy things,’” Yunho jokingly suggested.
“You know,” she admitted with a grin. “There is every chance you really aren’t that far off.”
After a couple more minutes they headed down off the area that held the obelisk onto another path that circled around the broad open lawn at the center of that portion of the park, slowly making their way towards a place called the Turtle Pond. They passed a cool faux medieval bridge and a statue to some Polish king. Across from the statue was a natural looking rock outcrop that provided an amazing view over the water with some of the very tallest buildings at the south side of the park poking up to remind you that you were in one of the biggest cities in the world.
“I wonder if anyone ever swims in that,” Mingi wondered, dipping the toe of his shoe into the water where it was lapping at the edge of the rock.
“Given the color of the water,” she said, giving a little bit of a frown. “I am hoping not. I would bet there are way nicer places to swim or get wet even in the park.”
“Yeah probably,” he nodded. “The view just kind of makes it a tempting place, I think.”
“You like the idea of swimming with a view?” Yunho chuckled.
“Isn’t everything more fun with a nice setting?” Mingi shrugged.
“Yes, yes it is,” she agreed. “But I’d prefer my swimming water to have a little less algae in it.”
“Me, too,” Mingi admitted.
“Okay, so where are we going from here,” She asked, coming up beside Yunho as he pulled out his phone at her question. They set a vague path towards through the forestry ramble and along the inner side of The Lake. The sheer scale of the park was enough to make you feel small. It was odd how, when you stepped out of the forest and could suddenly see the sky scrapers again it suddenly made the park seem both huge and closed in at the same time.
As they exited the ramble, they found themselves on a beautiful gently curving bridge that crossed over a thin stretch between the two sides of the lake. She paused midway, leaning on the decorative cement railing to take in the view of the park and the city. Along the side of the park to the west skyscrapers added texture to the skyline, so contrastingly symmetrical and industrial. A testament to industry and innovation.
In the park, the sparse branches of the trees reached towards the sky, yet still dwarfed by the buildings unless you were under them. In the park on the other side of the lake, fruit trees were blooming in pink and white, heralding the beginning of spring. People passed, the water sparkled, and a light breeze stirred the blooms and the branches.
“Want to get a picture here?” Yunho asked when she paused there, looking out at the view.
“Sure,” she nodded. “Isn’t it such a gorgeous place? The trees and the lake and everything… just how it all makes you feel so small.”
“It’s beautiful,” Yunho agreed. “But I never feel small when I’m with you.”
“Is… is that a joke about my height?” She laughed, narrowing her eyes at him.
“No, no,” he burst into laughter, realizing that it did sound like that when he thought about it. “I meant you both make me feel important.”
“Okay, that was sweet,” she chuckled, guiding his face down for a kiss. “Mingi babe, come here, let’s get a picture here together.” Mingi happily bound over, joining them where they leaned against the concrete rail of the bridge. The boys leaned down to her level so they would all fit in the frame and smiled into the camera as she hit the button.
“One more,” Yunho urged as she started to put the camera away. She nodded and brought the camera back up for another picture. Both boys turned their faces, pressing a kiss to her cheeks from either side. A grin spread over her face as she took another couple of pictures of the three of them. This would be a moment she would want to remember for a very long time.
Before the boys could stop her, she dashed off towards Cherry Hill, going to look at the cherry blossoms fluttering in the breeze. They chased after her, laughing as they quickly caught up with her on the paved path that curved around the slight hill where many of the pink crowned trees were dotted. At a break in the benches that lined the path she guided them off the path and onto the grass to get closer to the trees.
“Isn’t it just a little amazing that they bloom even before the leaves come out?” Mingi noted as he looked at the pink blossoms against the blue of the sky. Petals fluttered off the tree and onto the grass around them, dancing like snowflakes in the air as they fell.
“They are so beautiful,” Yunho agreed. “Maybe someday we can have a cherry tree at our house.”
“Someday, when we have a house that is ours,” she nodded. “The flowers are awesome, but can you imagine if we actually got edible cherries too. I could make pies.”
“My mom used to can peaches from my grandparent’s yard back when I was a kid,” Yunho recalled. “Maybe she can teach us how to do that, then we can save them.”
“I think it’s going to be awhile before we can do that,” she said with a sigh.
“Doesn’t hurt to plan ahead,” Mingi grinned.
“Of course not,” she admitted. “It’s just…”
“What?” Yunho asked, when her pause seemed to draw out.
“Sometimes it feels so far away it doesn’t feel real,” she shrugged, deliberately looking at the trees around them.
“You mean the future?” Mingi questioned, putting a hand on her shoulder.
“Yeah,” she nodded. “A future where we have our house and our trees. Sometimes I don’t really want to think about it since it doesn’t really feel like it’s going to be real. What we have now, I’m just happy to have what we do at least.”
“When we graduate,” Yunho declared with complete confidence. “We’ll buy a house together, get a dog, just, you know, make a real home for ourselves.”
“How are we going to explain that to our parents?” She half laughed, half sighed.
“Who says we have to explain anything at that point?” Mingi declared, longing for the day when he could really not care about what his father thought.
“I don’t know,” she allowed. “I guess I sort of hope someday mom and dad will understand, you know. Come over for holidays and birthdays. I want them to be happy for me.”
“I don’t think I’ll ever have that,” Mingi said ruefully. “But I’d be so happy if you got that. Your parents have always been amazing to me even if your dad can be a little prickly sometimes. They love you, I think maybe, if they see you… or I mean us happy, I think they will come around.”
“It’s sort of funny,” Yunho sighed, putting his hand over Mingi’s where it was resting on her shoulder. “I think my mom will be relieved that we are all together. She is always so worried about me being left out; being left alone. When we tell her we are all together, I actually think it will make her happy.”
“Well, on the upside,” she said, giving Mingi a bright smile. “When we tell your dad, we will never have to see him again.”
“That is a bonus,” Mingi readily agreed. “Can… can we call him now?”
“Let’s get a couple more years of tuition out of him,” Yunho suggested.

They got back to the B&B around sunset tired and hungry from their wandering in the park. On their way home they had picked up some Thai food and donuts to eat so they would be able to stay in and relax for the rest of the evening. Tomorrow would be a full day of touristing, so they decided a little relaxation and maybe even an early night, would be ideal.
Bags of food in hand, they slipped back upstairs to their room. She was already yawning by the time they were back in their room, tired from running around and keeping up with the boys as they toured the park. They had seen quite a few cherry trees, gotten selfies in some of the more iconic spots in the park, like Belvedere Castle and Strawberry Fields. Although they had grabbed a couple of sandwiches from a convenience store at some point, they were starving by the time they actually got back. Passing around the containers of food, they each took their fill while they planned what exactly they were going to do the next day.
“Can we do the big museum tomorrow,” Mingi asked, taking a bite of a maple bacon donut. “I want to see what’s in there, and it’s pretty close.”
“Yeah of course,” she nodded, opening her mouth to accept a bite Yunho was offering her. “We can see what we can get in during a visit tomorrow. Was there something specific you wanted to see there?”
“I don’t know,” Mingi shrugged. “I just like history and it looks like it could be fun.”
“We’ll do that first then,” she nodded. “I’d kind of like to maybe see the Natural History Museum, too.”
“What about the botanical gardens?” Yunho suggested.
“Sure we can do that the day after,” she agreed. “I want to save Thursday for shopping. I wanted to get a dress and maybe some makeup for our anniversary dinner on Friday. Do you boys want to get anything done?”
“I already have a suit but I was thinking I might like a change of hair color if you guys were okay with it.” Yunho mentioned, trying to read their faces.
“You know I’d love any look you pick,” she assured him, patting his knee.
“Yeah, of course, what were you thinking of?” Mingi asked with an excited grin.
“What about something wild,” Yunho tested. “Like a green or blue?”
“Ooooo,” Mingi responded, giving him finger guns. “I like it.”
“Do you mind if I take my shower now?” She asked, stifling another yawn. “We don’t have to go to bed quite yet but I am tired.”
“That’s okay,” Yunho nodded. “Go ahead. It’s not like we are going to go out again anyway. Take your shower, love.”
“Thanks, I won’t be long, “ she promised, kissing each of them on the cheek as she got up. They watched her head into the bathroom, relaxing against the headboard as they finished up the last of the food.
“Do you think she’ll let us pay for her dress and stuff for the dinner?” Mingi asked.
“Mmmmm, probably not willingly, but maybe we can sort of do it sneakily,” Yunho suggested.
“I’m listening,” Mingi turned his head to look at the other boy with a grin.
“It’s pretty simple,” Yunho shrugged. “When she has picked it all out, we divide and conquer. So you take the stuff and I’ll distract her by taking her to look at something else while you slip off and pay.”
“Deal,” Mingi stuck out his hand and sealed the deal with a firm shake of their hands. They settled on watching an episode of something while they waited for her to come back out. Before too long she came out damp and wrapped in a fluffy towel. She fished out an old AC/DC t-shirt that sort of belonged to Yunho but had largely been adopted by her as a night shirt, slipping it on before she tiredly flopped onto the foot of the bed.
“Tired, baby?” Mingi asked, leaning forward and patting her head.
“‘m fine,” she said as she yawned. “Maybe a little.”
“Honey, just lie down,” Yunho looked at her and laughed, pulling her higher up into the bed. “After this episode we’ll go shower and we can just go to sleep.”
“You don’ hafta,” she muttered, cuddling down into the space between them. “I don’t want to rain on the fun we should be having.”
“It’s not a bad idea to sleep a little early today,” Yunho gave her forehead a quick kiss. “Then we can get an early start tomorrow on the actual fun we have planned.”
“Sorry I’m being no fun today,” she huffed.
“Babe, don’t be silly,” Mingi hugged her from behind, nuzzling into her damp hair. “I’m a little tired too, it would be smart to sleep early. Just get under the covers and close your eyes.”
“Fiiiiiiine,” she grumbled but let Mingi tuck her in under the blankets. As she settled down in the pile of pillows at the top of the bed Yunho motioned at Mingi that they should go ahead and go into the shower. Mingi nodded and slid off the bed to follow him into the bathroom. They stripped off their clothes near the suitcases, piling all their dirty clothes together in a heap, then headed into the bright tiled bathroom. Yunho closed the door behind them and pressed Mingi back against it, leaning in for a playful kiss. Mingi grinned against the other boy's lips as his arms snaked around his neck.
“Not feeling tired yet, huh?” Mingi teased in a quiet voice, trying to keep it from carrying into the other room.
“I kinda want you,” Yunho chuckled, bringing his hands to Mingi’s narrow hips.
“Wait, one sec,” Mingi pulled away and cracked the door open, he quietly snuck back to their bags and pulled out the bottle of lube he had packed, casting a look back to the bed where she seemed to be nearly asleep already. The sight made him smile as he quietly slipped back into the bathroom.
“Let’s see if I can’t tire you out a little.” Mingi teased, putting the bottle on the counter as he backed Yunho against it.
“Yes please,” Yunho grinned. Mingi’s lips found the soft Cupid’s bow curve of Yunho’s, enjoying the sweet softness of them pressed against his own. His tongue darted out, tasting the pink softness of Yunho’s lower lip, making him moan slightly.
“I wanted to kiss you all day,” Mingi admitted, pressing his forehead against him.
“Why didn’t you,” Yunho asked, putting his hands on the other boy’s biceps.
“I don’t know,” Mingi shrugged, shaking his head slightly. “What if someone says something? What if someone wants to start something?”
“They won’t,” Yunho soothed, running his hands up and down Mingi’s arms. “And what do I care if they did. I’m proud that I love you. I want everyone to know that you’re my boy.”
“Yeah?” Mingi gave a chuckle.
“My handsome,” Yunho kissed his cheekbone. “Sweet,” he kissed the little mole lower down near his jaw line. “Funny,” he moved to the side of his neck. “Wonderful,” his lips brushed his collarbone. “Sexy,” he smiled, looking up to meet Mingi’s eyes as he reached between them to wrap his fingers around his growing erection. “Boyfriend.”
“You wouldn’t mind if I kissed you sometimes when we were out?” Mingi questioned, feeling a blush rise on his chest and face. “You wouldn’t pull away?”
“Any time that I would be okay with getting a kiss from our girl, I would be just as happy to get a kiss from you,” Yunho promised. “I’m so happy to have you, that you love me, too.” Yunho pushed him slightly further into the bathroom and went to his knees in front of him. “I haven’t kissed you because I’m afraid, but not of what others think.” Yunho told him as he kissed the tip of his erection. “I’m afraid you’ll pull away and I don’t want to hurt you.” He took the head in his mouth, swirling his tongue around it.
“Ahhh,” Mingi groaned, gripping the towel rack with one hand and the edge of the counter with the other. “I want to say I wouldn’t but… sometimes I get scared of what people will think or how they will react.”
“I know,” Yunho nodded, working his hand up and down the length in his hand. “I want to kiss you and I want you to like it. I want it to be something you hope for, not something you fear happening. I love you too much for that.”
“I’m sorry,” Mingi said guiltily.
“It’s okay,” Yunho licked up his length. “Someday you’ll get there, and I’ll wait for you and for that day.” Taking Mingi into his mouth, he threw himself into driving him to distraction. Mingi looked down, taking in the view of Yunho bobbing as he took as much of his length in his mouth. He loved watching himself disappear in Yunho’s lips and feeling the wet cavern of his mouth move over him.
Yunho loved tasting Mingi. He loved the flavor of his skin and how he reacted to his touch. Usually it was the three of them, and he loved every moment they had together. But sometimes he thought that it made Mingi feel like he was less. That perhaps he wasn’t loved for himself, he was a secondary piece, a less important part of a whole. At the very least, less secure in how important he was and how much he was loved for himself.
Yunho licked him like he was candy, holding onto Mingi’s hips to hold them both steady. Mingi felt weak as he watched Yunho’s mouth move over him eagerly. Part of him wanted to tell him he didn’t have to do this, but he loved this feeling and seeing Yunho on him so he bit his tongue. The way his hands held his hips and his eyes looked up at him, a sparkling glow in his deep brown eyes, made his stomach tight. Catching him looking, Yunho made a show of taking as much of Mingi as he could into his mouth until he brushed the back of his throat and made his eyes water slightly.
“You—you don’t have to,” Mingi finally panted.
“But I want to,” Yunho replied, licking the saliva that was moistening his lower lip. “Do you want to come in my mouth or do you want to take me in the shower?”
“Both,” Mingi joked. “Either, as long as it’s inside you.”
“As you wish,” Yunho let one hand go to stroke himself as he took Mingi in his mouth again.
“Wait,” Mingi stopped him with a hand on his shoulder. Yunho sat back on his heels and let his hands drop from the other boy with a twinge of disappointment in his eyes. “No no, I just,” he cleared his throat as a pink blush rose on his cheeks. “Can I taste you too?”
“Do you really want to?” Yunho asked, coming to his feet to look Mingi in the face.
“I don’t have to,” Mingi shrugged, averting his eyes.
“That isn’t what I asked,” Yunho moved into his vision. “Do you want to suck my dick?”
Mingi’s eyes snapped to Yunho’s at the crude language. “Yeah,” he replied a little defiantly.
“Then do it,” Yunho prompted, pressing lightly on Mingi’s shoulders to bring him to his knees.
“Sit for me?” Mingi guided Yunho back to sit on the lid of the closed toilet. Yunho acquiesced, taking a seat on it and letting Mingi kneel down in front of him. Reaching out, Yunho ran his fingers through Mingi’s hair as he drew closer. Mingi put his hands on the thick thighs of the other boy, adjusting his position on the floor, then leaned in to lick a line up the underside of Yunho’s erection. Yunho let out a tight sigh at the feel. Mingi took the tip in his mouth sucking it and swirling his tongue around it like a lollipop.
“Ahhh, Mingi, you’re such a tease,” Yunho praised, running his fingers through his hair. Mingi hummed around him, flattening his tongue as he slid more of him into his mouth. Yunho quivered, his hand fisting lightly in the other boy’s hair as he fought the urge to guide him further down.
“Show me what you like,” Mingi said when he pulled off, putting both of Yunho’s hands on his head as he moved his mouth back on him. With a smile, Yunho gently used his hands to move the other boy along his length until he felt his tip touch the back of his throat and held him there for a few seconds before pulling him back up.
“Is that okay,” Yunho asked, keeping his grip but making it light enough to allow Mingi to pull away if he wanted. Mingi gave a light shake to his head without taking his mouth off Yunho’s length. Guiding his head down again, Yunho watched as Mingi closed his eyes, giving the other boy almost complete control of him. With slow deliberate moves Yunho moved Mingi’s mouth up and down his length as he kept his jaw slack. At the end of each slow stroke Yunho felt himself brush the softness of the back of Mingi’s throat before he pulled the other boy back.
“Love, you feel like fucking heaven,” Yunho moaned. “If we keep going much longer I’m going to come.”
“Come in my mouth, please,” Mingi said, having pulled back enough to speak as he wiped a little bit of moisture that had spilled onto his chin.
“Okay,” Yunho nodded, running his thumbs over Mingi’s cheeks as he pulled him back.
“And, please be a little more rough,” Mingi’s eyes flicked up to Yunho’s then dropped nervously.
Yunho nodded again, “Just tap out if you need to, okay?” Yunho guided Mingi’s mouth down onto him again pulling him down faster and bumping the back of his throat harder. Mingi gagged slightly, his little snaggle-tooth scraping along Yunho’s length for a second before he caught himself.
“You okay?” Yunho gritted out, enjoying the sensations. Mingi nodded, keeping his eyes closed and concentrating on keeping his jaw slack. Trusting the other boy, Yunho pulled his mouth up and down the length of him faster and going deeper. The soft, slick feel of Mingi’s mouth around him felt fantastic and the way he just trusted him and let him control the movement made it feel different. Yunho could feel his orgasm building and increased the speed at which he moved.
“Fuck, Mingi, you feel so good,” Yunho groaned. “Can you take more of me?” Mingi didn’t answer, instead he pushed himself down his length, past the point where he hit the back of his throat taking more of him until he gagged and his eyes watered. Yunho’s breath caught and he wiped away the tears from the corners of Mingi’s eyes.  Following Mingi’s guide, Yunho kept him moving, hitting that depth over and over again as his pleasure built.
A moment later his orgasm burst over him and he held Mingi’s head down against him as he felt himself twitch in his throat. He felt Mingi swallow around him, the muscles in his throat working on him. Letting go of his head, Yunho let Mingi pull away. Mingi drew in a deep breath, having been holding his breath as Yunho invaded his throat. He wiped his chin and looked up at a dazed and pleased Yunho still sitting before him, leg spread wide and his head thrown back.
“Mingi, I love you,” Yunho panted, leaning forward to pull him into a kiss. “God you are so good to me.”
“Was that good?” Mingi asked, a happy sparkle in his eyes.
“So good,” Yunho praised. “You made me feel so good. Now how about you fuck me senseless in the shower. What do you think?”
“You still want to?” Mingi smiled up at him.
“Please,” Yunho urged, standing up and pulling Mingi towards the shower, palming the lube as he moved. Mingi followed him, stepping in as Yunho started the water running. Mingi pushed them both under the stream of hot water, tucking his head against Yunho’s shoulder. Yunho wrapped his arms around the other boy, holding him close.
“I love you, too,” Mingi said softly. They stood in the water, letting it flow over then until their skin was pink and warm from the heat. Yunho reached for the bar of soap the hotel had provided, lathering it in his hands before reaching out to Mingi to start washing him. Mingi helped him, guiding his hands as they washed along his chest and abdomen and lower. Yunho had to kneel to reach his legs, taking the chance to place a soapy kiss to Mingi’s hip.
Having gotten all of Mingi clean, they switched places and Mingi returned the favor, giving the boy he loved a sunny grin as he washed him. He loved touching and looking at Yunho’s lean body. It was so perfectly proportioned, soft and hard in all the right places. He pushed the slightly taller boy back under the water to rinse him before reaching for the shampoo and drizzling a little into his palm. He ran his fingers through the other boys hair until it was satisfactorily sudsy and clean. Mingi helped him lean his head back under the water and rinse it clean before Yunho did the same for him.
“You ready?” Mingi asked, running his hands over Yunho’s droplet covered body. Yunho nodded, giving him a quick kiss before he turned around, giving Mingi his back. Mingi reached for the bottle of lube where it had been left on the little shower shelf. Clicking open the top as the water from the shower beat lightly against his back, he dribbled a liberal amount of it into his hand. He slid it over himself and along the damp crevice of Yunho’s ass. He couldn’t help but admire the lovely bubbly shape of it, rinsing his hand slightly before reaching out to give the muscles a light squeeze.
Yunho gave a low chuckle, sticking his ass out invitingly to the other boy. Mingi kissed the back of his neck and down over his shoulder blades. He ran the tip of his length between Yunho’s cheeks, testing the resistance of his body. Finding it still too tight, Mingi slipped a hand between them making slow circles around Yunho’s tight ring of muscles.
“Let me in, love,” Mingi said gently as he slid a finger inside. “I want to make love to you.”
“Yes please, I want you,” Yunho whined. Mingi worked him wider for another moment before bringing his erection back, slipping the tip of his head inside. He added more lube again, having lost some to the dribbles of water that had come over his hands and the front of his body from the shower. With gentle thrusts and withdrawals, he slipped himself inside up to the hilt.
“You feel so good,” Mingi groaned, his hands coming around to hold Yunho around the chest and splaying over his lower stomach. He pressed his lips to his shoulder as he pulled out and slid back in. They both sighed at the sensation.
“Is it good for you,” Mingi asked, looking at what he could see of Yunho’s face as he leaned against the tile wall, pressing his forehead against it. Yunho nodded, only giving a breathy moan in response besides that. “Can you come again tonight?” Mingi asked, his lower hand wandering down to touch Yunho’s half hard length.
“Dunno, but we can try,” Yunho turned his face to the side and offered the other boy a smile.
“If it’s too much just say, okay?” Mingi urged as he fondled the slightly squishy length. Yunho nodded, relaxing with one cheek pressed against the cool tile. Yunho shivered slightly at the feeling of over stimulation. He liked it but it skated on the edge of discomfort. Mingi kept touching him, keeping his movements light and gentle as he touched him and keeping the pace the same as his thrusts. Mingi buried his face in Yunho’s shoulder as he moved, taking in the scent of his clean skin and listening to his panting breaths as he brushed over his prostate from the inside.
“Faster,” Yunho breathed, eyes closed and features slack with pleasure. Mingi obliged both thrusting faster and holding him tighter. Yunho’s dick was almost hard in Mingi’s hand but still slightly soft. He could feel the pulse of blood below the skin as he touched it. He seemed to be getting close and Mingi concentrated his touch on the head, only occasionally sliding his hand down the full length.
“Can you come for me?” Mingi breathed against the shell of his ear. “Come for me one more time.” Yunho whimpered, his face scrunching as he came closer to his second orgasm. “That’s it. You look so good when you come. Let me see it.” Yunho panted, his jaw falling slack as the sensations built against whatever dam he had inside, beating against it until it broke. His orgasm shuttered through him and he stiffened in Mingi’s arms. Mingi whispered praises to him as he felt the slight dribble of cum bubble out onto his hand as he gently held him in his hand. It wasn’t much since he had already come a half an hour before, but Mingi gloried in the feel. He thrust into him, looking to follow soon after. Yunho groaned, interlacing his fingers with Mingi’s where he still held him in his hand.
“Harder,” Yunho demanded. “Fuck me, Mingi.” Mingi moved his hands to Yunho’s hips, thrusting into him to the hilt and withdrawing nearly all the way. Yunho angled his hips to help him move, propping himself up against the wall with his forearms. Mingi could feel his orgasm there, so close. With just a few more thrusts he came, his length deep inside Yunho as he threw his head back and his hands grabbed Yunho’s hips harshly.
“So good,” Mingi groaned. “You make me feel so good.” Yunho pushed away from the wall, bringing them both back under the water. Water dribbled down over their faces as Mingi finally pulled himself out, making both of them moan. Mingi smiled against the back of Yunho’s neck as his hand went between them to use the water to rinse both of them clean again. His hand reached for the soap, taking a little on his hand, and washed them both gently.
“Ready to get out and join our girl in bed?” Mingi asked with a smile.
“Yeah,” Yunho agreed with a giggle. “I think I’m gonna sleep really well now. Thanks for helping wear me out. Are you ready for bed?”
“Mm-hmm,” Mingi nodded, turning off the water behind him as he drew Yunho into a kiss. “I’ll never get tired of hearing you say that you love me.”
“I’ll try to remember to tell you more,” Yunho held Mingi’s hand against his cheek. “I’ll try to never let you forget how much I love you. Just you, for who you are.”
“Me too,” Mingi grinned shyly. “I’m sorry I’m such an idiot sometimes.”
“You’re not an idiot,” Yunho pushed his shoulder playfully. “You just need to hear it more and sometimes I forget that. Just remember, I’m always happy to get a kiss from you or hug you or hold your hand. I know you don’t always want to, and I’ll wait for you. I’ll wait for the day when you reach for me.”
“Thank you,” Mingi pulled him into a hug as they stood in the tub together, dripping in the cooling air of the bathroom. When he pulled away, Yunho grabbed a towel off the rack and rubbed himself mostly dry before stepping out of the shower and rubbing Mingi down with the same towel. They both ran the towel over their heads, drying their hair. Yunho wiped a clear area in the mirror and looked at both their faces together in the reflection.
“What would you think of me with black black hair?” Yunho asked, still looking at both of them. “Like a sort of goth look? And…” he paused, his cheeks going a little pink. “Would you be embarrassed if I tried a little make up?”
“Sounds kind of hot to me,” Mingi waggled his eyebrows at him in the mirror. “Maybe we could all share makeup. Our girl could probably help us learn to do some.”
“She’d like it too, wouldn’t she?” Yunho said with just a hint of doubt in his voice.
“I’m sure she would,” Mingi shrugged. “But we can talk to her about it in the morning. Ready to sleep?”
“Yeah,” Yunho gave Mingi a quick kiss on his cheek. “I think I’m just gonna sleep like this. Did you want to put on a shirt or anything?”
“Nah, let’s just hop into bed,” Mingi agreed, grabbing Yunho around the waist and turning them both towards the door and waddling out. They both snickered quietly as they slipped into the bed from either side, cuddling up against their girl. She huffed and half opened her eyes as they joined her and they both shushed her, urging her to relax and close her eyes. They all entwined their limbs in the dim room, only lit by the vast city outside their window.

It was in the way she smiled.
Third grade at Liz’s birthday party, eyes scrunching up as her mouth split wide; giggling happily as she swayed around the room, fluid and graceful like a dancer. Helena Ortecho glowed in the dark light of the Crashdown, seeming totally oblivious to the eyes on her as she parted the crowd toward her youngest daughter.
“¡Feliz cumpleaños, mi hija!”
Liz could only beam back, so happy to be holding her mama’s attention. Helena pulled her into a tight hug, sticky pink lipstick leaving a mark on Liz’s cheek as she drew back, tucking a piece of candy from the piñata into Liz’s fist. She was so happy her mama was here - she hadn’t seen her in weeks. Papa kept telling them not to worry, but she’d missed her so much.
Liz didn’t notice her father frowning in the corner. She didn’t notice Mimi’s pursed lips. She didn’t notice the way her mother collapsed into the booth, unbalanced and clumsy.
She only saw her mother, bright, beautiful, happy. Que linda, Liz thought. She wanted to be just like her.
~
It was in the way she danced.
Liz could only watch, mesmerized. The way she kicked her heels up and carried the skirts of her dress through each movement. Even when she tumbled, spilling across chairs and tables and trashcans, she just picked herself right back up and kept spinning.
Rosa nudged at her shoulder. “Papi didn’t think she was coming back this time.”
Liz frowned. “Of course she came back. She always comes back.” Her voice sounded small and young, even to herself.
Rosa just raised her eyebrows, shrugged, and walked back through the kitchen to the stairs, pounding up them in her scuffed combat boots. Liz watched her go, eyebrows scrunched.
“Elizabeth, ¡baile conmigo!”
Liz turned back, smile growing as she watched her mother twist and sway to the beat, hands outstretched towards her, beckoning. She grinned, skipping forward into her mama’s arms, letting herself be spun and dipped.
She caught Helena at the hips when she tripped, laughing and falling into Liz. Her breath smelled of tequila and her eyes were glazed and distant when she put her hands on Liz’s shoulders to stand up straight, twirling away to the jukebox.
She was here at least. That was what mattered, wasn’t it?
~
It was in the way she laughed.
Loud and unashamed at Rosa’s quince, hand dropping heavily onto Jim Valenti’s shoulder where she tucked her smile. It rolled out of her, filling her corner of the ballroom like a fog. Several heads turned her way, but Rosa didn’t even so much as stutter as she chatted away with one of the Carrera boys.
“Mamá, come dance with me,” Liz said excitedly, standing and pulling at her mom’s shoulder.
“Not now, mi hija.” She swatted absently at Liz’s hand without turning and Liz dropped back on her heel, frowning.
“I’ll dance with you.”
Liz turned to see Kyle Valenti standing behind her, tilted forward on his toes, the lines of his tuxedo smooth and flattering. His smile was warm, inviting; Liz blushed, tucking an errant strand of hair behind her ear.
“No.”
“Papi, please!” Liz twisted back to look at her father, let her bottom lip pop out, unafraid to beg.
He was shaking his head sternly, but her mother spoke up. “Oh, Arturo, cálmese. We’re not in México anymore, let the girl have a dance.”
“¡Gracias, Mamá!” Liz planted a kiss to her mother’s head and caught Kyle’s hand to drag him to the dance floor before her father could offer any more protests.
She pretended it didn’t hurt, that Helena didn’t even so much as glance up to witness her youngest daughter’s first dance with a boy. She’d only been back for three days and Liz couldn’t shake the feeling that she’d already left again.
~
It was in the way she frowned.
“No sé por qué siquiera me molesto,” Helena grumbled aloud, tripping as she stepped into Liz and Rosa’s doorway. Liz was alone, working on her science project at the desk, a representation of the energy functions within different types of cells in the body. She was about to glue the neuron graphic together, but looked up at the tone.
“Rosa is out of control.” Helena slumped back against the doorway, peering miserably at her. Liz put down her project, confused and worried. “Your father does nothing but glare at me. And my own baby girl won’t even spend an evening with me. Nobody wants me here anymo-”
Liz was already moving, up and out of the chair. “No, no, no, Mamá, I - I want you here.” She flung herself around her mother, grasping tightly. “I didn’t mean to leave, I just came to work on this while you talked to papá-”
Helena gently pushed Liz away, shrugging her shoulders and eyes glistening. “No no, I get it. It’s more important than me - you have your own life now, with no room for your poor mamá.” She turned to leave and Liz grabbed her hand in both of hers, heart clenching as she pictured her mom walking out again.
“No! Wait, please don’t leave again!” Liz swallowed, trying to think of what her mom needed to hear. “I’ll tell you whatever you want, I’ll tell you everything! Please don’t go, Mamá, I love you,” she begged.
Helena’s lips pursed and Liz held her breath, staring. Now that she looked, her mother’s eyes were totally glassed over and unfocused. She blinked a couple of times and looked over at Liz’s desk. “Well, fine. Tell me what this is.”
Liz sat down in her chair and hurriedly explained it all best she could. “The science fair is Thursday. I’m gonna win,” she added confidently.
At that, Helena finally smiled, eyes focusing and brightening for just a moment. “Yes you are, mi hija. And when you do, I’m going to be so, so proud of you.” She reached out to pinch Liz’s cheek and kiss her forehead, and Liz felt the happiness of her mother’s affection swell inside her. “I’ll take you out for cupcakes at that little bakery.”
“Yeah?” she asked excitedly. “You promise?”
Helena nodded. “I promise.”
~
It was in the way she cried.
Ugly and unkempt, mascara smeared down her cheeks, hair stringy and falling into her face, red dress rustling as she blew her nose. She was on the floor and leaned against the wall of the bathroom when Liz nudged open the door, following the sounds of her sniffles. Liz remembered thinking, back when she was young and naive, how pretty her mom looked when she cried, how graceful and elegant.
She wasn’t quite so naive now.
“Mom, you need to get up.”
Her mother shoved away at her, wailing into her kleenex. “No!” Helena shrieked, pitch echoing off the tile. “No. Leave me alone, I’m fine.”
Liz knelt down to her mother’s level, talking softly in a practiced tone. “Mom, you have to get off the floor,” she tried again, gentle but firm. “You can have my bed, come on.”
Helena was drunk, probably high, and slumped on the floor of the Crashdown women’s bathroom. It was early on a Saturday morning, the breakfast rush only just starting to trickle in.
That is, if there were any customers left after Helena, crying and yelling, stumbled her way into the diner. Liz was the only one that could handle her mother when she got like this, so she’d been sent to deal with her.
Helena just blinked at her, scrunching up her eyes in confusion.
“C’mon, I’ll help.” Liz extended an arm and grabbed her mother’s wrist with her other hand.
Grumbling but compliant, Helena leaned heavily on Liz, smelling heavily of tequila and thick perfume. The combination made Liz’s stomach roll, but she ignored it, carefully escorting her mother upstairs and to her and Rosa’s bedroom.
As Liz crept back downstairs to help her dad in the kitchen, she wondered when she’d gotten so used to this.
~
It was in the way she called.
Liz’s cell rang almost two hours after the dance started, a buzzing in her clutch as she and Alex walked around the town center bullshitting and trying to pretend they were having a great night while they waited for their respective rides. She finally managed to dig out her phone and check the caller ID, answering just as the fifth ring started.
“Hello? Mamá?”
There was a sharp intake and some rustling on the other side of the line before she answered. “Elizabeth. ¡Mi hija bonita! I thought you were at the dance!”
Alex’s eyebrows drew together when Liz answered the phone, and he was looking at her intensely as she answered.
“Mamá! I was, but I already left.” Liz took a quick breath before she continued, heart pounding. “I uh, I thought you were going to help me get ready tonight? Since it was my senior prom?”
“Oh, mi hija, I’m so sorry! That’s why I was calling. My car broke down on the way and my phone died. Lo siento mucho mi hija.” There was a pause and Liz’s heart sank - she’d bought her mom a car charger and an external battery after the last time this happened. Out of her car fund. She gritted her teeth, trying to ignore the ache in her chest as Helena continued. “But! Your papi sent me a picture and you looked so lovely - it’s like I always say! You don’t need me at all,” she added cheerfully.
Liz swallowed, ignoring Alex’s stare. “Right. Well, I gotta go mami. I’m still with friends.”
Helena’s voice brightened. “Of course! I don’t want to keep you. Bye!”
Her mother hung up before she could answer and Liz pulled the phone away from her face, snapping it closed.
~
It was in the way she smiled.
Empty. Slick like the fish Papi ordered cheap from his buddy in San Diego for their Men in Blackened Salmon, sliding away the more you tried to hold on. She smiled like a mirage, like the hope of what you wanted most.
Like a disappointment.

“the budding trees” || tamaki amajiki
Tumblr media
⟹ After falling and crippling yourself in the woods, the forest spirit comes to your aid. [forest spirit/fairy tamaki - 2.6k words]
a/n: i thought of @knifeewifee while i wrote this just bc i know tamaki’s her fave, so consider this a pre-gift for another fic i’ll write for you soon, manda!!! this fic was completely based off of the idea of tamaki with antlers, which im going absolutely batshit for rn, and also because he’d make a cute lil fairy. if you guys want more of this, id be really happy to write more!!! i really like this idea, and i could make it a little series like the minecraft with shiggy, yanno? anyway, bone apple tit!!! [navigation]
There’d always been something a little odd about that forest, to say the least.
The trees were spaced considerably apart, with winding roots and huge canopies that held tens of bird nests at a time. In the morning there was always mist that kissed the earliest rays of sunlight. The streams were always clear, no matter how much washing was done in them from your small village on the outskirts of the woods. And every now and again, a white stag could be seen far away through the underbrush, just out of reach and swiftly out of sight. It was like something out of a storybook. Maybe that’s what made it so strange.
You’d never ventured too deep. You’d gather what you needed, be it berries or nuts or firewood, and you’d scramble back to your village before sunfall. There’d never been anything threatening in the forest- at least, you hadn’t seen any bears or wolves there in your life- but to be there at night seemed...intrusive. That was the first word that came to mind, though you weren’t quite sure what was so intrusive about it. It was all just very odd.
But there was one day you’d ventured out too far, too close to sundown, and found yourself rushing through the trees and over the winding roots to try and beat nightfall. The forest wasn’t so kind that night, however, as you tripped over one of the roots and toppled straight down the side of an overhang.
Your first thought upon opening your eyes was: “Something’s broken.” You could feel the hurt, though you were sure you would have been able to feel much more of it if you weren’t so in shock. So you laid there, and cried after a while when feeling started coming back to your broken leg as the night loomed o’er.
The patch of mushrooms beneath you glowed azure and violet, something you’d never seen from any forest, and the fireflies didn’t disperse with the lateness of the hour- instead, they began to grow closer, looking down at you before quickly flying off again. Then a badger came along, peering down from the overhang. You expected it to gouge out your eyes, but instead it made a strange noise, and hurried off just as the badger had. You felt strangely alone once it had gone.
There was no one for a mile at least, you knew, and they would have been asleep by now. There was no chance at help until morning. You weren’t even going to try and stand; you already knew your leg was beyond repair. If, by chance, you were rescued, they would probably have to amputate it, like you’d seen happen to one of the village elders when you were younger. You’d always dreaded that happening. You guessed you had no choice.
The whole forest floor seemed to start glowing just as the mushrooms were; the azure and violet met brilliant luminescent greens, and you swore you could see something twinkling gold somewhere far away. It gave you something to focus on instead of the pain in your leg that you were becoming increasingly aware of.
But then, from above the overhang, you could hear something approaching from the underbrush. You cried louder, unable to do much else, hoping it was a person.
From the overhang, a white stag peered down, just as the badger, had. But unlike the badger, it slowly made its way down the hillside to find you, looking down at your twisted leg. It then called out to the forest, low and blaring, until a human pair of eyes peered down from the overhang after it. Well, they looked human, but you couldn’t be sure from the colossal pair of antlers on its head.
You closed your eyes and assumed you were already dead.
Only, you were surprised to find that you weren’t when they opened again, this time to the inside of a little cottage of sorts. The gentle sunlight streamed through the open window and shined on a singular small room, its walls covered in shelves that overflowed with bowls and bottles. You were on a bed against the only open wallspace other than the small wash basin and counter beneath the window, and just to make sure you weren’t dead, you wiggled your toes.
You wiggled the toes of both feet, and only realized what that meant when you recalled what had happened before.
A round little bird came to sit on the windowsill as you shot up out of bed, looking down at your legs. The one that had been broken still ached, perhaps too much to stand, but it was healed nonetheless. The bird chirped at you from its perch, and you looked at it hoping it would provide some answers to your countless questions.
Instead, the door opened, and the man with antlers ducked through the doorway with a bowl under his arm. His eyes widened at you when he looked up.
“Oh! U-Uhm, you’re…” He stared, seeming almost frightened, and you couldn’t help the initial dread that sparked in your chest. However, just as you were calming down, he set his bowl down on a stool next to the door and turned around to leave. You reached out a hand as if he wasn’t across the room.
“Wait! Wait, please!” His hand was still on the door as he turned slowly his head, back still facing you. “I have...ah, a lot of questions, if you don’t mind.”
You looked down at the little chair by your bed. He must have been sitting in it when he was healing your leg. “Uhm...can you come sit, please?”
His hands gripped the white, silk tunic that flowed around his figure, swallowing before finally turning towards you. He made hesitant steps towards you, in a way that reminded you of a real deer. You stayed still as he came to sit in the chair next to you.
You cleared your throat, trying to twist your body to at least partially face him before giving up. “Ah...what’s your name?” You asked.
His hands wringed together in his lap. “Tamaki…”
“It’s nice to meet you, Tamaki,” You smiled, then looking up to his antlers again. “Are you, ah...human?”
“No- no, uhm…” He swallowed, refusing to look at you. “I-I’m a fairy. Of this forest. The fairy- guardian- uhm…”
“You’re the spirit of this forest?” You inclined, an old tale coming to mind. He finally met your eye, nodding furiously as he looked back down at his lap. His antlers almost hit you as he nodded, seeing as how they were really large. They seemed as tall as his chest, and fanned out even more so. The bird from the sill came to sit on them, as did another.
You fiddled with the hem of the blanket. “My mother once told me a story about forest spirits. She said they were devious trickers to any humans who encountered them.” You looked up to find him gazing back, his nervousness faded with how much he was focusing on you. “You don’t seem too devious, though. You seem rather kind.”
“I...we’ve only just met.”
“I know,” You smiled again. You then inclined, “How long was I asleep?”
“Just the night,” He answered, looking down at your leg beneath the blanket.
“You healed me overnight? How?”
His hands wringed together again. “Uhm...herbs-” He pointed to the bottles and bowls lining the shelves. “-and water, and- and magic.”
You nodded over to the bowl he’d left by the door. “Were you going to heal me again?”
“Oh, no- I uhm-” He stood, quickly making his way to the door. His antler nearly knocked a bottle off of a shelf before he quickly caught it. You kept your giggles to yourself as he brought the bowl back to the bed. “-I was going to wash the herbs off. Replace them.”
“Oh, I see.” You pulled the blanket back, realizing he’d dressed you in one of his floor-length tunics. You almost blushed at the thought of him having seen you undressed before you realized that nudity probably didn’t mean much to a fairy. But even with this assumption, you still watched him swallow as you pulled the tunic up to expose your leg to him.
It was wrapped in a fine white cloth, now stained green with the herbs packed beneath it, seeping through like dye. You saw him hesitate in reaching out, so you gave him a nod, trying again to shift your leg towards him and finding a bit more success than you had before. He started at our ankle where it was tied and slowly unwound it, careful not to let any of the now-used herbs touch the sheets.
He grabbed the bowl and brought a wet cloth tentatively to your leg. His hand began to shake as the cloth made contact with your herb-stained skin, but you didn’t shy away.
“Oh- I-I’m so sorry, I should have been more careful-” He began to apologize profusely, and you grabbed his wrist before he could pull away. Your eyes met his as you brought it slowly back to your leg. “I’m...I’m sorry…”
“I’m fine, Tamaki. You can keep going. You have nothing to apologize for.” You let go of his wrists to instead grip the sheets for leverage. “Of course, for even as much as you have kindly healed me, it will still hurt- but no matter. You may do your work. I do not shatter so easily.”
He bit his cheek as he looked between you and your leg. You sucked in a breath. “Though...if you wouldn’t mind...I feel I may find this easier to bear if you’d be so kind as to hold a conversation with me?”
Tamaki dipped the rag back into the bowl as it ran a bit dry. “Uhm...what kind of conversation?”
“Well, I’d like to know you better, if you don’t mind discussing yourself.
“I-I’m afraid I do,” He stuttered, slowly ringing out the rag, “but only because I don’t find much about myself worth sharing.”
“What nonsense!” You said, and he looked up at you with wide eyes. “You’re a fairy! No one knows much of fairies, much less of you! There is so much to discuss, Sir Tamaki!”
He blinked, and slowly brought the rag back to your leg. You were too busy staring at him to flinch. “Well- ah, what would you like to know?”
You spent the next half hour asking countless questions about his species and his life as he cleaned your leg, and then continued to do as much as he pressed more wet herbs into your skin and muttered little spells under his breath. He told you how he was born from the trees, though he couldn’t quite remember it, and how he’d always been on his own. He’d only met a few humans in his lifetime, and sheepishly admitted that none had been as interesting or forgiving as you (you didn’t ask what he meant by “forgiving”). He said that the stag was the forest’s heart, and that he was the forest’s breath. It was all very strange indeed, but alas, you couldn’t keep yourself from hanging onto each and every word as if it were scripture.
Tamaki must have grown tired of talking about himself, for as he finished wrapping and healing your leg, he began to ask about you.
“I live in a village just at the edge of the forest,” You said, picking again at your blanket. “I don’t do much else but wash and sew clothes for others. I probably won’t have much to do until I’m married, anyway.”
“I’ve heard of marriage,” He said, “though not much good of it.”
“It’s not very good at all. At least, for me, I think. There’s no one I fancy spending the rest of my life with in my village, much less bearing children with. I’m just fine sewing men’s trousers.”
“You’re not happy,” He said, more as an observation than a statement. You nodded. He looked down at his lap and picked at his tunic. “I don’t think I’m happy, either.”
“Why do you think that?” You spoke, your voice growing soft. He shifted closer with a sigh.
“I...It’s very lonely, out here. Which is silly of me, I know.”
“No, I don’t know. Why would you find that silly?” Your hand moved to rest comfortingly on his knee. He swallowed again.
“Well...fairies are very...independent creatures. We live only to breathe life into trees. There is no need for another, and very rarely any longing for another, as well. And yet...when the birds stop singing at night...it all becomes rather quiet.”
Your brow furrowed in thought. Though you hadn’t put much consideration into your next words, you were sure of yourself when you offered: “In that case, perhaps when I am healed, I can visit you?”
Tamaki blinked up at you, and you smiled sheepishly at him. “It’s just...we are both so unhappy without another to keep good company. So...I would like to be your friend, if you’ll have me.”
His eyes grew wet with emotion, and his hand slid over your own on his knee. You smiled even brighter at his touch.
“If I may be so honored.” With shaking hands, he brought your knuckles to his lips, kissing them delicately before resting it back on his knee. Your chest blossomed at the feel of it. “Though...I am not quite sure what companionship entails. I’m sorry.”
“You’ve nothing to apologize for,” You repeated, leaning forward. Tamaki smiled back. “I’d be more than happy to teach you of companionship. I’m certain you’ll find it easier and much less daunting than it seems.”
He studied you for a long moment, antlers tilting just slightly with his head, and you couldn’t help but grin at the sight. He nodded warmly in return. “I’ll take your word for it.”
You spent your time in bed chatting until you were well enough to walk that evening. In the morning, when it was time to return to your village, he lifted you effortlessly and set you on the back of the stag (who was so tall, it was hard to mount even as it sat for you) and led you to the outskirts of the forest. He stopped just far enough away that you wouldn’t be spotted by the townspeople and helped you off of the stag.
Your hands remained on his shoulders from where you’d used him as support, beaming up at him. “You have been so incredibly kind, Tamaki. When will I see you again?”
“A-As soon as you’re able,” He smiled, gesturing to your still-aching leg. You noticed that his stutter wasn’t so much from anxiousness as it had been before, and instead sounded with the implication of another meeting, another little adventure. It brought a warmth to your chest. “I’ll find you at night. You just have to wish for me, and I’ll feel you in the forest, wherever you are.”
“Thank you, Tamaki.” You stood on the toes of your good leg and pressed a gentle kiss into his cheek, perhaps as payment for the kiss he’d left on your knuckles before. His cheeks were flushed bright red when you pulled away, and you could feel your own heating with it. Your hands slipped from his shoulders as you stepped back. “Farewell, for now.”
“Farewell…” You took one last look at him before turning and limping back towards your village. You didn’t hear the stag set off for another minute or so behind you, but you couldn’t blame him. A part of you wished you could stay with him forever.
But, perhaps, some things come only with time...
