Never said she hated James or that she was a gold digger. I do believe she loved him. But I also believe that part of the reason she was attracted to him and to the prospect of marrying James was the fact he was a rich pureblood and through him she could gain a more stable identity/community in a world where she probably felt like she didn't belong. This attraction and class appeal of James also probably made her downplay or ignore his faults and his previous actions towards Snape and others - that's why I called her pretty shallow and a social climber. She saw Snape being miserable for years, yet she still married James and why? Because he didn't use dark magic, appealed to her ego and a desire for safety and stability. She justified her attraction with her black and white morals, selfish interest and grew to like James more - despite him being an entitled arrogant asshole who she saw tormenting her ex friend for years. That tells me a lot about her. There simply must have been a reason why she married such a jerk with a bullying history. And I'm not calling James evil btw. And no not all 20 year olds have babies during a war. She jumped straight to a relationship, got married after a year - reckless, and had a baby year later - immature. And no you cannot be a kind saint while surrounding yourself with shitty people. I believe all the characters in this era were shitty, some more, some less. Most of them had good intentions for sure, Lily included, but she was not like the way you talk about her. Because she was close to pretty nasty people. James was a dick, Sirius was a less evil Bellatrix, Remus was an enabler and I don't even like talking about Peter. Snape had such a shit life that it's impossible to not be shitty in his situation, Petunia was a complete jerk and you actually think that Lily - the person that was moving in circles with these people - was a kind, feminist, role model? That's why I do not like this potrayal. Not only it doesn't make sense with the knowledge we have about her but it is also kind of sexist to reduce her to a kindred spirit who can do no wrong and has the best of intentions. Btw I'm not saying you are completely wrong, after all we do not know her canon personality, I'm just arguing with how I see her and why. I prefer this more negative perception because it makes her more human in my mind. I also do read and enjoy your fic, because even if I do not agree with the way you see these characters, I can enjoy different versions of them from time to time.

Weird thing that bothered me about Rebirth and I want to hear other people's thoughts.

Um... Why did they gentrify Gongaga? I can't be the only one who feels cheated by the chummy suburban development vibe in Rebirth.

OG Gongaga is an isolated village deep in a jungle. It's possible to completely miss the first chance to visit, because it's practically unheard of. All the young folks fled to the big city. A reactor blew up and killed most of the inhabitants, leaving the town in a state of decay. The houses are falling apart, the people are desperate, it's derelict and miserable.

An understated theme in the OG is how life is difficult without modern technology. Avalanche sets out to destroy these reactors without considering the consequences for their own futures, thinking "well it won't be easy but i'm sure it'll be fine." Gongaga is the story's way of showing you just how fine everything is going to be— despite being in a lush rainforest, long since violently cut off from Shinra's influence, these people still suffer immensely.

I wanted to see it in hd so bad honestly. The splintered rotting wood, the furskin rugs, the dirty brick walls. The unspoken yet unignorable trauma. The mournful purple twilight that quietly hangs over the whole village. I wanted to see the survivors' spiteful determination to make things work without mako.

Instead we got a squeaky clean Crisis Core rendition of Gongaga, with its down-to-earth upbeat stardew valley soundtrack and generic hard workin' country folk. The houses are like... twice the size i expected them to be. Neat and tidy, no holes in the roofs, no dishevelled interiors. No sign of struggle. Everybody is content at worst.

The reactor may as well have never exploded. Nobody talks about it. We hear some bullshit about Shinra trying to "make amends" or compensate people for the damages, and that's about it. Apparently everybody's just fine with this, because all of the original version's resentment and grief is gone.

Don't even get me started on the barker stationed at the town entrance. "Come experience nature's bounty!" Man... why are we treating it like a goddamn hippy tourist attraction. OG Gongaga would have had someone knock this kid's teeth out.

Idk I'm just sad. The melancholy is what made Gongaga so memorable despite its bump-in-the-road identity. I wish we could have gotten that instead of one big callback to CC.

I love this callback to issue #50 in issue #67. It's funny seeing Surge mock & sass Sonic like that of course, but it's also a really smart and subtle way of summarising Surge's motives.

In this issue Surge is taking advantage of Sonic's offer to reform herself. She, at this point, clearly has zero intention to actually better herself - she's just using it as an opportunity to eventually cause more harm.

He knows that, and she knows he knows that, but she also knows that as long as Sonic sticks to the moral code he was preaching so much to her, there's nothing he can do about it.

And here we see it summed up in just those two lines - Surge takes their exact words from their previous argument, flips them on their head, and spits it back in his face.

Poppy for N2 au, it took me so long to make her design cuz I didn't really know what I wanted to do only because I feel like her design is pretty perfect.

But then I just thought about fun outfits to give her or outfits that I would find comfortable if I was wearing them and it all came together.

Poppy here is pretty much the same as here movie counterpart, as nothing really changes on her end of things other than having more insight on Branch through his brothers, and through Lief. Shes also a bit more understanding a bit earlier on because of it but it doesnt do much to change her own character arc I would say.
