Little Kid With A Big Death Wish changed my brain, so I typeset it. And then @remedyturtles indicated they're okay with me sharing it. So there's also a link to the Google Drive files if anyone wants it:

Note: There are FOUR versions in the folder. This is because (due to the way I designed the pages, mostly; I wanted it to be pretty, okay? I wanted it to be thematic) the full book is almost 900 pages long. So if you want it as an electronic file to read, or if you are actually ambitious enough to bind a 900-page 5x8 book, you want the 'Deathwish Full' files. Otherwise, if you are sane, I broke it up into three 300-page-ish sections, which are Part 01, Part 02, and Part 03.

Regular .pdf files are the individual pages in order. These are the files you want if you (a) are downloading this to read electronically, or (b) intend to pass the file through your own imposition software. (Like if you want to print on paper that isn't letter-sized, for example.)

Bookbinder folders have the imposed PDFs. Meaning: the files you want if you're going to print and bind this thing. Within those folders, the 'typeset' files are aggregate (the whole book, with ALL the signatures, are in the one single PDF). Signature folders have (you guessed it!) individual signatures. These are good for test prints (four pieces of paper is a cheaper test print than, you know, 70-something), or just making sure your printer doesn't run out of juice as you go.

All of the book is in color. But it's also all (mostly all) blues and greys, and I did a test print on my blank and white printer at home. So if you don't have access to a color printer (or the money), I promise it still looks nice in black and white. :)

A second note, on margins and bleed: the artwork does extend into the bleed (or at least, it's supposed to). Please keep that in mind when choosing a printer and your print settings. Please also do a test print. Please please please.

Last night I managed to detangle the beginning scene of this chapter from something that felt almost impossible to finish to something actually reasonable. Which feels amazing--I've been throwing myself at that scene over and over and it felt like chipping away at an iceberg.

I just moved the argument/conversation section from before going into the gas station to back at the funeral home. Significantly less branching, and I didn't like the Ravi or Jay individual scenes nearly as much as I like the combined ones anyway.

Less amazing is the amount of the chapter I had to remove/I'll be reworking to do it, but wordcount doesn't matter if the chapter never gets finished 😔

By the way, did we ever talk about how stupid it is that they made Silco the reason Felicia died? I don't mean that he killed her personally, but that he jumpstarted violence on a peaceful protest. Because that's sooo who Silco is, right? A character who makes impulsive and poorly thought out decisions, right? A character who goes into a fight headstrong without carefully planning his moves and strategy and just YOLO-ing it, right? Right?? ......sigh

And don't even THINK about giving me the whole "wElL hE cHaNgEd SiNcE tHeN dUh" crap. Even s2 is smart enough to show us him writing something in a notebook in a flashback, which implies that he was the brains behind the Lanes' creation/revolution as a whole. And if he was he would never sabotage his own plans with something so stupid as throwing a single molotov at enforcers. Literally who does that???? Silco we know would probably organize an attack under the guise of a peaceful protest, but not just. Straight-up ruining just a regular peaceful protest. That's stupid. And Silco is the last character in arcane that would do something stupid. Literally the whole plot of season 1 relies on him being intelligent and sneaky with his plans are you kidding me.

they knew they were leaving because Spider would be tortured for information, he'd be forced to reveal their home, their plans, their numbers, their weaknesses. their brother would be tortured and they were being forced to leave him behind.

Thinking about how out of all rc routes with immortals/deities, it's only Cain's that emphasizes his immortality and otherworldness so much.

When Lane meets him, she's instantly mesmerized by the perfection of his appearance and his aura/charisma while Cain is mostly bored and indifferent to her. He even goes as far as seducing and driving her mad in the church in 1x03, acting like "a child breaking a toy, eager to see what's inside". It's only after Lane proves her competency at deciphering the Book (and not only she's competent, she's actually better than him), he recognizes her worth and offers her alliance ("I understand you and the squad doesn't" — there's so much to this phrase now, huh). And their deal doesn't make Cain Lane's pet guardian angel. In fact, he accidentally drops her during their first flight together. And this makes Lane see very clear she can't trust him. And yet she longs for someone to trust, to rely on, she reaches out for Cain because he's a blind spot but there's something about him that makes her feel alive (she doesn't know yet. Will she ever find out?). She's scared of developing feelings for an immortal because she sees that this will get her hurt ("I wanted to get to know her better, but, to be honest, I shouldn't have") and at the same time she begs him not to disappear in her thoughts. She wants him to be kind but selfishly, be kind only to her. When Lane tries to get through to Cain when he's in his Seraph form, it's her body that remembers fear he evoked in her. And there's no miraculous awakening in the end — she's almost got killed by him.

Cain and my safety are two contradicting things, Lane thinks bitterly in 2x01 and yet on that roof she feels she should be next to Cain. When Cain touches her thighs after they land, it seems he tests both his and her sensations; but on that roof he doesn't caress Lane, he studies a human being, just one of her kind, a thing to dissect.

There's this constant ambiguity of reaching out and stepping back between then but divinity is inhuman. and we're yet to find out will it be enough for Cain and Lane even if something is missing
